People judge picky eaters a lot but, as a very picky eater, I’m endlessly frustrated by my limitations. When I vent about this, a lot of people respond with things as “just eat it, it might not be so bad” but I mean it when I say a lot of suggestions I have already tried.
I watch a lot of food videos and they all look so good, a lot of food smells amazing, but then I try it and the texture is a sensory nightmare and there’s too much flavour. I love being autistic but, if I was to change one thing, it would be that.

We as a society need an autism health and fitness guide. I have really strong ARFID and disabilities that are more common when you are also autistic. Having better advice and tips that aren't just "meal prep the fuck outta your life" or "starve" would be nice.

I wish more people knew about ARFID and how much it can affect you. As someone who has it, it’s so discouraging seeing people every now and then online (or irl) make fun of people for being “picky eaters” who see it as a sign of immaturity. It doesn’t matter how old and mature I get, that doesn’t make my sensory issues and lack of hunger cues from bad interoception somehow disappear.

Eating nothing but a McDonald’s nugget happy meal for the 3rd day in a row because it’s the only thing you can eat without literally wanting to rip out your own stomach and set it on fire 🙃

PSA ARFID is not…
Just being a ‘picky eater’
Only experienced by children
An excuse kids use to be fussy
Any less serious than other EDs
A phase

Brain: You have an eating disorder
Me: No I don't it's perfectly normal to be disgusted by food. And everyone has gagged at some point while eating.
Brain: Sure.
Me: And I'm sure most people are blocking the food tag because it's making them sick.
Brain: Oh honey no.

I think the brand of chicken nuggets we get was just ruined for me
I was having some chicken nuggets with a nice little garlic parmesan sauce I made, when I notice something long and white sticking out of the nugget I'd just took a bite from. I thought it would be a hard piece of chicken or something, so I pull it out.
No. Not chicken. Not bone. A small, white feather probably the length of my pinky finger. A chicken's feather was in the meat.
And now I feel sick 🤢

i am always reluctant to say i have arfid because a "friend" i had like. over a year ago fakeclaimed me and said it was just "normal autistic food aversion"
but also. theres this restaurant i want to try on campus and im terrified to try it because i dont know all of the ingredients in the sauces or all of the seasonings they put in certain items and so therefore even though the food looks and smells really good im convinced it will make me throw up (i am terrified of throwing up)

I have a tendency to get all my cals from candy simply because other food scares me but oml do I regret it sometimes. My sister bought me a pack of gummies for easter because I don’t like chocolate and i ate like half the bag and my stomach hurts sm.
i know if i posted this on twt i would get ripped into for the fact that i would rather eat half a bag of gummies(like 10-15) for 300cals than like an actual meal for the same amount:’)

Okay since there's no official ARFID tag on ao3, not every author who writes about the disorder tags it. I just started an open, unmoderated ARFID fic collection that you can add any works you find to<3 I'd appreciate any help. This disorder is way too unknown.

I feel so ashamed that I’m nearly 25 and I’m having to be referred to a dietitian because of how limited my diet is
My health is declining because my intake is not good enough but sensory issues and OCD make food feel so difficult
How am I almost 25 and not able to feed myself adequately?
