far away (from the one i love) by @woodchoc-magnum - again cannot recommend this writer enough, they too have a treasure trove of longer fics that are all excellent. this one is the one i read most recently, basically buck goes with taylor to chicago and leaves the 118 and eddie goes on a trip to get him back. SAUR good and sweet

maybe we'll make something by @buckactuallys - buckley-diaz family roadtrip fic ! ugh this one was SO sweet, i read it all in one sitting and just smiled the whole way through. so tender and soft and the pining is off the CHARTS. so so good.

to look and be seen by @princessfbi - royalty x bodyguard au!!!!! need i say any more. buck is the prince of england going to stay with his godfather bobby aka potus and eddie is his longsuffering bodyguard. oh this was SUCH fun, cannot recommend enough

to be found by @zainclaw - this is potentially my favourite buddie fic of all time, i recommend it to everyone but its SO good. its a werewolf au and just *chefs kiss* do yourself a favour and read this absolutely immediately (plus the author semi-recently released a lil follow up and its SO cute omg)

this could be our year; don't let go of my hand by @homerforsure - cannot adequately express how good this fic is. its so funny and creative and clever and also tense and suspenseful and angsty and its SO good. basically the 118 get sponsored by an eccentric fashion designer and attend a masquerade where then Shit Goes Down. absolutely top notch

Hello!! So back in the day in my older fandoms I used to live for aus but with buddie i - like many others, i know - can sometimes struggle with aus because they’re identities are so intrinsically linked to their jobs as firefighters that it’s hard to picture them Not being that??? Even in my own aus that I’ve written I always find a way to make them both firefighters in the end lmao.

Buck lowers his voice, leaning forward as if trying to make the words’s journey shorter between him and Chimney so they can’t escape and reach anyone else’s ears,“I wouldn’t fuck him in the showers.”

Chimney’s response is wordless in the form of an eyebrow raise.

“Not anymore, okay?” Buck clarifies, rolling his eyes. “That’s not who I am now."

(spoiler alert: Buck does fuck the guy in the showers. but that comes after nicknaming him Big Beautiful Brown Eyes, finding out his name is actually Eddie, becoming his best friend, and falling madly in love with him.)

It’s the last day of break when they grab lunch together and Buck calls him on it.

“You know, you look pretty beat, like…all the time,” he says. “Everything okay?”

“Yeah, more or less,” Eddie says. “My neighbour is…”

And then he trails off because yeah, his neighbour is still loudly on the phone every night at three, then four, then back to two, then one, then three again, but from what little Eddie can hear, the calls he’s making have become entirely one sided. Like he’s leaving voicemails.

“Oh, that blows,” Buck says, taking an indecently large bite of his sandwich. “I either have really, really great insulation or the quietest neighbours ever.”

“Either way, be grateful,” Eddie recommends and Buck gives him a quick smile in response.

The route itself is pretty simple. From their apartment in Scarborough to Christopher’s school, it’s a bus ride and a trip on Line 2, and then from the school to SickKids, it’s just another few stops on the train and a transfer to Line 1. They’ve got it down to a routine, him and Chris; back home, Eddie could never quite figure out the transit system, but despite all its many, many flaws, the TTC seems to have their back.

It could have warned him about the guy, though.

Chimney colours a little. “Um. No?”

A bit of a wild child. A bit of a party boy. Maybe more than a bit. Rumor has it that right before he made it big he almost got dropped by his agency for being a little too reckless.

But that's fine by him—Eddie can handle beautiful people, he's around them all the time.

Okay so the vibes are inspired by these books:

The Charm Offensive by Allison Cochrun - The "famous" character and the one who works behind the scenes, Also about working on a TV show set and falling involve behind scenes.

You Had Me At Hola by Alexis Daria - About shooting a film, the two characters do not get on at first, one of them needs a publicity boost, the other is trying to make it big and keep his 7 yr old son out of the paparazzi.

Spoiler Alert by Olivia Date - The "famous" character and the "normal" person.

So Buck is the big actor and Eddie is a novelist whose first book is getting adapted into a Movie, but he's a recluse and he likes it like that; to give Chris a normal childhood (we're just going to accept that authors get enough recognition for this okay?).

Eddie's not sure about Buck getting the role at first, heard he's a fuckboy- Basically he's got a reputation and Eddie doesn't think he's got what it takes to play his serious main lead. There's some tension between them when Buck finds out Eddie didn't want Buck for the role. (Buck got his reputation for a reason but that was before Bobby became his manager and Maddie came back into his life- he just needs his rehabilitate his image and this project is perfect for it.)

But soon Buck's dedication to the role and great acting wins Eddie over and we get 'you're a badass' kind of scene and they become the best of friends. Eddie starts helping Buck with learning his lines and they have lates nights talking about everything.

Bobby is Buck's manager, Chim is his agent. They saved him from his destructive downward spiral. Hen is Eddie's editor so Chris and Denny still have sleepovers.

During this time we get film set hijinks and we get a scenes if like Chris being on set and Buck treating him like a director/producer. Eddie hanging out in Buck's trailer and they're siting so close and Maddie walks in and is like sorry I interrupted. etc.

Something happens where Buck starts drawing more attention (maybe it's leaked that he's bi?) and so he starts getting followed everywhere and one time he's with Chris and they get corned by some pap and Buck just goes above and beyond to make sure Chris stays safe. We get the line 'Buck, there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you' and Eddie realises he loves Buck and they kiss.

I had a lot of fun with this one, I love the niche genre of romance books about filmmaking/film sets/ actors etc. Probably because that's what I studied at Uni - Film not romance books.

My first fic I wrote when I was 14. It was on my mother language and about kurt/blaine from glee(I actually like watched some their moments and only some first eps of glee don't judge me please). But I deleted it fast cause I had really offensive comment and well my self esteem always low. So I was writing a little bit for myself in dif fandoms, but deleted it from my comp or throw away notes. Only in buddie fandom I felt inspired again to actually write and share.

I love to write for Buck cause I love him and well I'm so buckcoded. But I also enjoy write Eddie and Bobby (especially Bobby in au I write now. He's my fav there)

Eddie’s a writer and hired to ghostwrite Buck a child tv star/actors autobiography they do not get along until they do

Suffering from writers block buck decides to run some children’s writing classes to see if he can get the love of words back and Eddie signs chris up

And last idea

Eddie has been secretly writing and starts publishing stories in line and they become a hit- buck gets obsessed by the story and the mystery behind who it is- lots of online guesses it’s a famous person - maybe Eddie is actually a well known celebrity soap opera style and Bucks una rival show but they’re still friends or maybe just cannon firefighters ?????

Self rec? I have to pick amongst my children fics? this is like terrible. so terrible @radio-chatter

But if I have to pick…. In no particular order a cross section, if you will, of my various writing tendencies:

1) An Andromeda Tale: The Making of a Pathfinder and a King. Mass Effect Andromeda, the slowest of slow burns MReyder endgame fic. This is my magnum opus MReyder fic that I swear to Anubis I will finish it eventually. It’s at >600k and still going. This was I think the first thing I published on AO3 (or close to it).

Summary: Scott Ryder never saw his life going this way, not that anyone ever asked him his opinion. Now he's pathfinder with too many people depending on his young shoulders and trying to figure out what he actually wants for himself. Reyes Vidal, man of mystery, former pilot and now sometimes smuggler. Who knows where he came from or his motivations but he's come to Andromeda to change his destiny. What neither Scott nor Reyes could have predicted is what their lives would be once they came to Andromeda.

2. The Dream of the Symbiote’s Host. Venom. Symbrock. Complete at 4,511 words. What can I say? I never thought I’d write tentacle porn but I suppose this is why you should never say never. It’s a one shot and well…. Yeah it was fun to write. Might someday dip my toes back in the Symbrock pairing. I’m also totally blaming this one on you @radio-chatter.

Summary: Eddie’s been holding out on Venom. An accidental side trip into an interior decorations shop reveals something he hadn’t intended for Venom to ever learn about him and it’s all that art print’s fault.

3. Family, Familia, ’Ohana. 911, H50 and SWAT crossover. Eventual Buddie, McDanno and implied Hondo/Deacon platonic (or not). Navyseal!EvanBuckley. Wip at 81,451 words. This is my other, more popular, long work. I just love the pairings involved and my imagination was fed too much Jack Johnson music and this happened. Also my most popular fic on AO3 by a good margin.

Summary: When one family seems lost another comes back from the past. But does Buck want to return to the past or live in the present? And does his present lead to a future he wants? Only he can answer these questions but Steve at least will be there to support him.

4. The Outlaw and the Cartel Boss. Mayans MC. Miguel Galindo/Ezekiel ”EZ” Reyes, Coco Cruz/Angel Reyes. WIP at 98,569 words. Sentinel/Guide AU that ignores almost everything canon. Everyone has that extreme rarepair, can’t exist in canon idea that is possibly overindulgent. This is my version of that. I haven’t even seen much of the show but I really love the work of several of the actors in this show so I smashed my minimal knowledge in with my favorite fanfiction trope and this is what you get. It’s still a wip. I know I haven’t posted in a while but I am still—very slowly—working on it. I think this is the most developed sentinel/guide story I’ve written so far but it’s a trope that I’ve revisited several times now (see my versions of Buddie and Mreyder for this trope too).

Summary: EZ Reyes came online with his mother’s violent death and suffered the consequences of his actions in the aftermath. When Jimenez offers him a deal to turn evidence in on the Galindo cartel, he agreed as he’d brought shame on his tribe by his actions and it was a chance at redemption that he didn’t feel he deserved. He just didn’t anticipate who his guide would be and the amount of trouble they’d generate for him. Miguel had goals—to legitimize the family business, enjoy life and his family. He didn’t anticipate any of the events that forced him online as a guide but now that he has a sentinel he’s not letting him go.

5. A Soul’s Weight. Mass Effect Andromeda. Implied eventual MReyder. Complete. 1,376 words. Does not require any knowledge of Mass Effect. I debated a long time which other fic to recommend to people but this is a short one-off I wrote in literally about an hour that I still find myself coming back to again and again and debating writing more in this particular alternative universe. It’s quite different from most of my other writing but I think that’s also what makes it so interesting. Ancient egyptian diety? Implied multiverse? Taking fanon to the limits? Guilty. Short but sweet but would be the intro to MReyder of mine that I would recommend. Or I suppose you could read Seguir (another AU).

Summary: The futures he had seen taunted him, drew him, seduced him. The possibilities that Scott Ryder presented were... intriguing. The cry of the ibis called across the sands, chased by the howls of the golden wolves of Anubis that hunted this night.

For the 9-1-1/Harry Potter fen...

It's likely me and hardly anyone else but I know Tumblr enough to know you're out there... ::grin::

I have to admit to adoring Alan Rickman as Snape in the Harry Potter films. But he was all wrong for Snape... (sorry, not sorry!) Alan Rickman was too old to be Snape.

I've done enough Harry Potter fic, and even some Marauder fic, and in doing the math on everyone's ages (to get as close to canon as I can when I'm writing an AU - yes, I appreciate the irony), Snape was only *31* when Harry started Hogwarts.

May I present Oliver Stark (Buck) and Ryan Guzman (Eddie).

Oliver is currently 31. *That* is what Snape should have looked like. Ryan is 37. I can work with that. This is what Sirius and Severus (and Remus and Peter!) should have looked like in those movies!

Sirius is really a big kid. He was thrown into Azkaban at 21 and spent 11 years there. He's still (at best) 21 in his head, even if he is physically 31/32. Okay, maybe 34 when Prisoner of Azkaban happens.

I think I have to go with Ryan as Severus and Oliver as Sirius (although he would be a fun Remus!) to be closer to 'reality'... that gives me a very different head-canon as I write Harry Potter fic. I have a 'Severitis' fic (Severus raises Harry) that is a WIP and I'm going to be thinking about these actors as Severus and Sirius... it may not change what I'm writing but I will be seeing something different from the movies in my head.

Okay, just to cross fandoms more, Dylan O'Brien (Teen Wolf) is also currently 33. (Okay, now really I feel how old I am!) He would be a great Sirius, with Oliver as Remus.

Now I just need a Peter Petigrew... hmmm...

And there's another huge plot bunny that may or may not happen... Yes, evil author is evil!

"Can you read for Gabriel in Scene 23, where he's talking to officer Blake Scatorccio?" Chimney says, looking up from his notes. "Buck will read opposite to you."

"Yeah, okay." Eddie swallows thickly. In the first books, Gabriel and Blake only have a few scenes, but in the second book their relationship grows stronger.

Some fans even think the author might be building up to a romantic relationship, claiming it's a slow burn. Eddie isn't sure and he hasn't asked Buck, but just the idea of doing this scene with him makes his nerves set on fire.

He'll be acting out Buck's words, words the man took time and effort and that he created oh so carefully, so masterfully. Eddie will be telling them to him, looking him in the eye and thinking— what exactly?

"Eddie? Are you ready?" Buck raises an eyebrow at him.

"Yeah, Ready."

Buck clears his throat and starts the scene.

"Gabe? What are you doing here?"

"I'm dropping all of the evidence I gathered with Pipe in these last few months." He sighs, feeling as defeated as Gabriel does in the scene. "I just— I can't do it anymore."

Buck frowns at him, just like he pictures Blake would be doing in the book. "What? You're just gonna give up?"

"I can't keep going like this! Chasing after some psycho, being haunted by my wife's ghost. I—" Eddie runs a hand through his hair and pulls back. "I need to think of my son, okay? I can't keep doing your job for you, Officer Scatorccio." He sneers. He evokes every feeling of grief and frustration he felt when Shannon first left him with no warning, except for a note. He brings up every feeling of insecurity and of not being good enough to the surface, every feeling of rage and fury that's been simmering under the surface for longer than Eddie is willing to admit, and he pours them all into Gabriel's character.

In the book and in the script, Blake gets impossibly closer to Gabriel, grabbing him by the arm and stopping him from walking away. In real life, Buck remains seated a few feet away from him.

Eddie tries not to be disappointed. This is an audition after all and Buck is just reading the lines to move Eddie through the scene, that's how it goes. It's just business.

"My hands are tied and you know it. The whole police department can't go after just one person, Gabe. You know that. We have too many cases and—"

Out of the corner of his eye, Eddie can see Chimney. The director held in a rare thrall, the tip of his glasses inserted between his full, dreamy lips, that ankle crossed over the opposite knee, jiggling, jiggling. He looks impressed, Eddie thinks. Maybe.

"And what?"

"I think you're close. I think you are stronger and smarter than any one of us— You're extraordinary, Gabriel Alvarez and I am in awe of you every single day. You can't just give up." Buck gazes up at him, a smile gracing his lips, a small and barely there thing that doesn't really match the scene but Eddie can't bring himself to mind.

"You are too good with words, Officer Scatorccio. But I don't know if I can trust them." Eddie looks down at the script, and then back up at Buck. "I don't know if I can trust you."

"Gabe, I—" And that's the end of the scene. Blake's partner interrupts them, claiming they need to go and Gabriel is left alone at the station. Confused and hopeless.

Eddie takes a deep breath, telling himself it's over and he gave the scene the best he had. And he thinks he did pretty well— He thinks he did amazing, losing himself in the scene and in Buck's eyes, and hope sizzles under his skin, strong and powerful.

"That was amazing, Eddie. You really seem to get the character." Chimney smiles at him, forcing him to look away from Buck. "It's really a beautiful thing to see."

"Thanks." Eddie fidgets with the script. He knows they won't make a decision right then and there, and certainly not in front of him, but something keeps him frozen in place.

His feet refuse to walk away.

Hope inside of him moves and weaves through his system like a hurricane, not wanting to leave.

"You really do understand Gabriel, Eddie." Buck speaks. "That was— Well, I guess Blake Scatorccio said it. Extraordinary." Buck says softly, maybe too soft for what the moment calls. "Thank you."

Thank God it's dark in the rear of the studio. No one can see the tomato-colored tidal wave surging up Eddie's neck.

"Again, thanks so much for the opportunity." Eddie says, feeling his lips dry up. "I, uh— Yeah. Thanks." He awkwardly waves and turns away, hope trailing behind him like a neon sign showing how much he needs, how much he wants this. He wonders if they can see it. He wonders if they care.

He thinks Buck might.

I JUST FINISHED WATCHING IT AND YES YES YES YES YES YES!

We were fed with so much Buddie content! Eddie asking to team up with Buck. Buck not being able to say no. Eddie offering his fact about the willow shrub and then being salty about them picking each other’s brains. Them scratching after the fire ant incident. Teaming up to find the treasure and bringing their gear- THEY TOOK BUCK’S JEEP, I’M SCREAMING.

Bottom line- this episode was a fest of Buck and Eddie content.

Also, shoutout to Eddie, who saw everyone running behind the truck, then decided to go jump through the window of the engine.

I absolutely cackled when I saw that actor because my brain went right to Once Upon a Time. It’s been years and that show will never leave me completely. (and now my brain is trying to connect dots for an AU where the Author is writing the 118′s lives or a sort of Heroes and Villians thing...please enable me)

I know that the wedding is going to be a call for the 118, something about a Bridezilla. But the Bathena angst! I can’t take this, I’m gonna cry over it. I’m gonna watch live and sob on my couch. AND I AM SCARED FOR WHOEVER GETS SHOT, I AM STRESSED!!!!!

(Also, I don’t know if I see Eddie and Ana lasting beyond the season, but I’m also at the bottom of this pit)

But Monday shall ruin us. I have to watch live or I will lose my mind.

Shang Chi, Small-Time Game Devs & Small Horned Dinosaur

Welcome back once again for another episode from the wacky Nerds. This week we review the speculation of the latest offering from Marvel. Discuss issues confronting small game developers and some proposed solutions, and we also have a horny dinosaur. Sound exciting, it is, so strap in and come along for the ride.

So, Marvel have announced the release of a new hero, and it is a Chinese character and speculation has been rife on who it is going to be. There are suggestions of a couple of Chinese heritage actors and everyone seems to be loving it. Even Buck is sounding kind of impressed. There are concerns about the back story of this character, but the hippies will certainly find something to complain about.

Next we have the information about the struggles faced by small game developers trying to generate traction in today’s market place. Independent game developers are producing some interesting content back due to the market place they struggle to survive and remain in the market place. We also ask our resident developer about his experiences and how he dealt with them.

Then we take a moment to learn about a horny dinosaur from China. Oops, sorry, a horned dinosaur from China, called the Auroraceratops, cousin of the Triceratops. Perfect for the individual in the market for a pet that is a little bit different. This beautiful little creature is adorable and a herbivore, with currently eighty examples having been found. We talk about the different possibilities of how it looks and found examples that are very different, including examples that have feathers.

This will be followed by the usual discussions of games we are playing, shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and events of interest. We have lots of fun and laughter while recording this episode, and we hope you have just as much fun listening to it. As always remember to look after yourselves and look out for each other and stay hydrated.
