Beach Bliss with my Coloring Book
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
#COLORFORACAUSE is my Nonprofit, STUK Designs ongoing initiative. It is an initiative paired our coloring books. We wanted to raise heavy awareness in a light way. we believe coloring is deeply therapeutic and is a massive stress relief. It’s also just super fun! This is our form of art advocacy.
The U in STUK Stands for UNITY. Our first priority is creating change for underserved girls of color globally. On our campaign journey we realized that there was almost NO wide spread awareness about the severe racism and sexism that exists within the art world. The root cause is systemic, because underserved black girls are rarely even given the opportunity to even take an art class. This creates a system in which…
LESS THAN 1.2% OF ARTWORKS ON NATIONAL US GALLERY WALLS ARE BY BLACK WOMEN.
We are spreading our mission to the majority in order to uplift the minority of black girls who are deeply struggling. We create art, NFTS, publications and merchandise that not only supports self love art education, but also guide conversations about race. Unity will strengthen our community.

Here are a bunch of important facts about service dogs in the United States! Many people don’t know the real laws about these amazing dogs that help disabled people every day–so please share this far and wide to spread the word.
Remember, all our product sales help support service dog handlers and organizations. We donate 10% of profits and include educational service dog fact cards with all US shipments. I’m also a disabled artist, and the best way to empower disabled people is to financially support them!
💜(Due to health complications, I’ll be shutting down my shop on Dec 31st–so all decks and art prints will only be available until then. After that, I never plan on selling the Barkana deck again btw!) 💜
P.S. These service dog facts are specific to US laws, not worldwide.

None of these men know how to buy kids' clothes 🙄 (It's okay tho, she DOES love it, girl has 99-core fashion all figured out)
In honour of all the people who instantly wanted this one-liner on a t-shirt:

(in all seriousness, as someone with a disability and chronic illnesses, the way Wrecker delivered this line- with such straightforward humour, warmth, & self-acceptance- meant so much to me.)

Next up, my found-for-free-on-social-media-that-I-painted-and-fixed-up walker! It includes my handmade glow in the dark dinosaur basket, custom made grippers, and a custom paint job. It is an electric blue base, accented with sky blue for the wheels and bottoms, with lime green accents around the rings in the middle. The basket and hand grippers are made from a Dollar Tree blanket with various dinosaurs that if left in the sun long enough DO glow in the dark. It is all made by me.

On reflection I have mixed feelings about my childhood involvement in professional performing arts, but there are some very, very important things I got out of it, including the capacity to easily receive critical feedback on my work (whether professional or artistic) without either collapsing in insecurity or responding defensively.
I don't think I realized until reaching adulthood both how important a skill that would be and how rare it is for people to actually be given the opportunity to develop it.

whether it’s gaming, working, writing, or drawing. if you do it in a uncomfortable way or for too long it can really hurt you.

So I have a question for the disabled pokémon community in regards to designing a character, from an able bodied presenting person. I'm gonna give my sketch of Wally so far below under the cut if that helps.
I'm designing my take on older Wally, and I wanted to make him more visably disabled. I'm aiming for something aligned with cripple punk ideals beyond aesthetics, but I'm not that well read about it and I don't want to betray those values. Since his condition is only loosely implied to be asthma, which from my own limited observations is mostly seen through the use of medical inhalers, I thought I'd take a few creative liberties. I'm giving him a futuristic mask attached to a small cylindrical filter on his back through two large tubes on the side. It's not a permanent fixture, and he can take it off to sleep, eat, talk over tea, etc. It's sort meant to look like a knight mask, reminiscent of gallade. The mask functions as both a filter (since he works in/near the battle factory at the Hoenn battle frontier) and also as a drug administration device when he's having asthma-esque episodes. My idea is meant to invoke images of more villainistic / ableist characters (like the obvious Darth Vader), but once you meet him, Wally's is actually a very soft, sweet guy. He's just is also capable of annihilating you in a pokémon battle, so people talk up how scary he is to battle. I know this in itself is a trope, but I'm unaware of how the disabled community feels about it and if it's initself abeist. The rest of his clothing isn't villainous, just kind of a progress of what he wore when he was younger.
So, is there anything I should do differently or should know before going forward? I'm not going to pretend that I'm immune to being abeist, and I'm not sure if implying that Wally has some form of fictional pokémon asthma is really the proper way to go. But I thought I should at least try to reach out to the disabled community before I do anything that might be speaking for them.
