Irises grow from lightning-struck ground, the pelican revives her chicks by drawing blood from her breast with her beak, weasels conceive through the mouth and give birth through the ear canal, the eagle flies up to the sun to burn old age from his eyes, and mantis shrimp see colors we cannot imagine.

It's the kind of thing that fills medieval bestiaries, folk medical traditions, and the writings of Pliny the Elder.
