Octavinelle + jack with a mantis shrimp mer reader

fourth most popular on the poll! Thank you everyone for voting and helping me decide what to work on!

Reader is specifically a peacock mantis shrimp. Spear or club subtype will be specified. This is going to be a bit longer due to that.

Description

Many crustation-mer's human halves replace where the head of the crustation would be, so your lower half has the shrimp body and the curled deadly weapons for arms. You are smaller than most other mers, about 4 feet from head to tail tip. You have bright colorful markings and scale-like coverings along your body. you can see the usual range of color + ultraviolet range. you usually walk along the sea floor, only using your tail to shoot backward from danger. Your shrimp arms either end in a club-like way, with a large blunt end perfect for smashing open clams or shells. Or it is covered with small serrated edges, just like a mantises claws, these are perfect for spearing fish and ensnaring them to keep them from escaping.

Your human form is much weaker in your opinion, it is also fairly small, You're about 4'9". you still have impressive arm strength, easily able to punch through a wall or break bones with a single hit. You also have taught yourself martial arts to improve your form and be able to defend yourself well. you have markings along your body similar to the scales of your mer form and you like to wear bright and colorful clothing.

Azul: Was very interested in your unique and bright clothing options. "You're rather small, you might need protection~ just sign here and you could have special magical protection and the eel twins to come to your aid! No? why ever not?" You then show that you can easily crumple someone and throw them across a room. He's a bit scared of you at how quickly your arm moved, he almost didn't see it! Still tries to hire you to work for mostro lounge, do you know how beneficial and effective of a bouncer you would be?! He'll pay you well, also because he knows you would crumple him like a piece of paper if he tried to undermine you.

Never would have guessed you were a mer. Stumbled to the pools to relax and found you in your mer form. Complimented you and showed he was slightly envious of your bright and beautiful colors. Complimented your strength when you easily turned a rock to dush with one club punch. Also impressed by how you easily speared a paper out of the air as it fluttered about. Still insists you work at the mostro lounge. You take pride in how much he compliments your mer form and like to show off to him, just to listen to the praises that always lead to him asking for you to work with him. Maybe someday...

Jade: Your bright colors yet defensive attitude were quite the fascinating mix that drew this eel to you. Observes you from a distance and knows not to mess with you physically due to your impressive strength and the many students with broken bones who tried to fight you. Likes to drop hints that he knows what you are and likes to tease you by eating any shrimp dishes when near you just to see you clench your jaw/fists. Likes to see you squirm under his uncomfortable questioning and vague threats.

Found you in your mer form one day at the octavinelle pools when he wanted to stretch out his fins. Slips into the water and tries to sneak up on you. honestly was startled that you turned and struck him with dizzying speed. Knocked onto his back as he was on the floor of the pool. when he got his breath back he weakly complimented your deadly skill with a spear/club. stays away from you but asks to observe your mer form a bit. Also tested your reflexes. you passed his drop test 100%. He's impressed. Tries to convince you to work a bit at the Mostro lounge as a bouncer, no one wants to be winded with one punch. Doesn't defend you since he knows you can defend yourself very well. Sometimes redirects people's anger toward you just to watch them get beaten in less than 10 seconds flat.

Floyd: You're so bright and colorful and tiny! but man can you throw a punch! when he popped up behind you he didn't expect to get a swift gut punch, he likes your bravery! Called you "mantis shrimpy" Wasn't expecting to be so on the nose. He loves to watch you fight, you break things so quickly! you also are able to break out of his grasp when he tried to squeeze you. Your arms move so fast too! He nags you to teach him some moves. Thinks you're super fun and cool! you're one of the only people who will not hesitate to be blunt with Floyd even on his bad-mood days.

On a particularly bad day when you escaped his grasp, he challenged you by saying "you wouldn't be able to beat me in my mer-form little mantis shrimp." You accepted his challenge. "ehhhh? Do you wanna get beaten so badly? fine by me~" He hops into the water and transforms his about 3 times your length. Despite that difference, you stood your ground and transformed as well. His grouchiness dissipated and he almost completely forgot that this was supposed to be a fight. He rushes at you to look you over and squeeze you cause you're so small and cute and pretty! You daze him with a swift club to the chest, winding him. If you had the spear you would have cut into his arm a bit as you redirected his speed past yourself. The eel had sparkles in his eyes as he watches you hold him down with your powerful arms. Happily admits defeat and zooms around you to look at your little form! and asks to take you for a ride on his back someday. Up to you what happens then.

Jack: Honestly, appreciates how you want to get stronger and how hard you work to defend yourself due to your short height. Is your best workout buddy, and you spar often with each other. He has learned a lot of patience with you and learned some martial arts from you too. He's proud of how far you both have gone in a short amount of training. Amazed at how fast your reflexes are. you could grab a fly out of the air with your fingers easily! looks up to you even if you are in the same grade. If anyone is stupid enough to mess with you, they will get flung, immediately K.O., or they will be paralyzed from precise jabs to different parts of their body.

When you show him your mer form, you take pride in his awed expression. He compliments you in his tsundere way as his tail wags. He appreciates your trust and the gesture of friendship. Might hop in the water to spar with you if you challenged him. your scales are tough and you easily stunned him with a single hit from your club to his back. You were careful to not hurt him though. With your spear, you just entrapped him faster than he could have reacted, careful to not cut him with your serrated claws. You let him feel your merform in return for getting to feel his beast form.

Also, these shrimp are so interesting! their punches or spearing abilities are as fast as a bullet and can easily do as much damage as one too. they are smart and fast too. even with their small size, they are scary strong!

I'm not just cooking, i'm baking a whole ass CAKE

not 100% happy with the design but I wanted to get it out of my system, I went for darker and more muted colors for Zoro while still utilizing the usual elemnts of his outfit like the sash and the haramaki. also the color palette for the full outfit turned out very tasty, like it makes me think of chocolate and sweets. not sure about the use of haramaki though, I feel like it makes the proportions a bit awkward when everything else is dark, but it does make the shirt fold nicely so I may keep it in the end

now that I'm further into WCI I think I should add a suit version as well for the wedding bit hmmm

My idea for this is after coming to Big Mom's territory and fighting her commanders they get to the Germa carriage just like in canon. Zoro watches Sanji fight Luffy, restraining himself from interfering. He respects Luffy's decision to not fight Sanji back, but the moment Luffy gets knocked down it's Zoro's turn to try and bring the cook around and he's not gonna hold back

ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A KNIGHT...

the visual inspiration for this was a combination of Frederic William Burton's Meeting on the Turret Stairs and also Bernardo Cavallino's The vision of St. Dominic receiving the Rosary from the Virgin

this was supposed to be just a one off illustration to get the thoughts out of my system, but then I started thinking about medieval politics and warfare and plagues and a castle and home as both a place of refuge, a prison, and a tomb, so perhaps they will end up as ex voto characters as well.

you may say, hey! that rosary looks like it has too many beads! it's a fifteen decade rosary, probably. dominicans are really into marian devotions. it works out.

also. spiral style stair cases. oh boy. it was that unexpectedly more difficult than I originally thought it would be to draw. the more I think about it, the less I understand them, even though I had a million photos of the stairs in front of me while I was drawing it.
