Happy Anniversary
Tumblr media
Steven Grant x reader
Words: 1257
Author’s note: did I rewatch moon knight, dress up, and eat a delicious cheesecake to celebrate a year of Steven Grant? Yes I did.
Tumblr media
There was that feeling again. That feeling of uncertainty and a little bit of doubt flowing through your brain while you surveyed yourself in the mirror. It was your one year anniversary with Steven and you had originally planned on going all out for a new outfit.
You had pictured it, a deep long purple dress with a floral pattern. But of course with you not managing your money the wisest, in the moment that dream was now crushed and you now found yourself staring at a familiar fit that you’ve worn maybe a few times before. Instead of the floral pattern you traded it for something more…plain.
Currently you were wearing a deep blue off the shoulder blouse that hugged your torso before fanning out at the bottom sort of like an hourglass. The sleeves were long and they got bigger as they traced down your arms all the way to your hands. Underneath that you wore a simple long black skirt that was pretty straight cut. Over the blouse you wore a black corset belt just to tie the piece together as well as a black headband and moon tassel earrings.
You knew you looked good but it just wasn’t what you were originally planning. But it was what you had. Before you could do another fit check your phone dinged and you peeked at the screen.
“He’s early,” you said, cheeks already tugging upwards at the thought of the man. Sending a quick, ‘coming down,’ text you grabbed your purse, shoved your phone, as well as a few other essentials in it, pulled on a pair of black heeled boots and took off.
Practically running down the stairs you make your way out your front door and that’s when you spot the familiar curls. He stood with his back to you wearing his long black coat.
From the top of your doorstep you gave your outfit a final brush at the skirt as well as a tug on the shirt before you started walking towards him, and at the sound of footsteps drawing closer he turned around and that’s when you got to see that face you loved so dearly.
Well at the sight of you Steven’s innocent eyes widened, his cheeks lifted slightly as his eyes then shifted from your face all the way to your shoes then back up again. It was a small moment but it was enough to make you bashful, Steven was not one for silence so the fact that he hasn’t said anything yet was a new thing.
After a moment it seemed like you would have to be the one to break the silence, “hello handsome.” That seemed to wake him up as he snapped back into usual self.
“Oh my stars,” he immediately wrapped you into a warm tight hug. You loved his hugs, they were always long and full of genuine love and for more times than not you found yourself wanting to stay in those arms.
“Sorry about that,” he pulled away from you but kept his hands on your shoulders keeping you close as he maintained eye contact, “you just look absolutely stunning. Perfect.”
You can’t help but smile and he grins even wider. You adore this man, he always says the right thing even when he doesn’t know it’s exactly what you needed to hear. “Oh, happy anniversary,” he says, and you quickly step forward slightly to peck him on the lips, “happy anniversary,” you reply before you take his hand.
“Come on, we don’t want to miss our reservation. Plus I want to try that amazing vegan dinner you had when you went there.”
“I was there one time, and quite a while back. For all we know I might’ve been exaggerating how good it tasted.”
You smile back at him, “I’ll be the judge of that.”
And you were.
The meal was delicious. Juicy food, exquisite drinks, the only thing Steven wouldn’t let you order was a dessert claiming he had something special for you back at his place, to which you initially booed but quickly got over, mind occupied with what the something special could be.
Despite your best efforts in paying for the meal or even half, he of course paid for the whole meal and you claimed to get the next one to which he agreed. After that successful dinner you two were back on your way and soon you were standing behind him while he pulled the keys out to his quaint apartment that you’ve stepped foot in many times before.
Allowing yourself in he followed after you closely watching waiting to see your reaction once you saw his little gifts that he had left for you to find in the middle of his bed. It took you a few steps before you finally saw it.
In the middle of his mattress was a big round pillow and on that pillow sat a purple bear that wore a white sweater much like Steven did occasionally. There was a box as well that looked like it was from a restaurant which is what you assumed to be the dessert, and then there was a white envelope that had a tiny heart in the center.
“Oh Steven this is adorable,” you exclaimed picking up the fluffy stuffed animal, the scent of lavender immediately hitting your face from.
Next reaching for the box, you opened it a little catching a peek of the cheesecake that sat inside. “Oo looks yummy,” you shut it before reaching for the letter. And once opening it you took a moment to read it in silence. In it Steven went on about how content and lucky he is to have met you and how he’s happy you’re in his life and he can’t wait to spend more years with you.
It was a very sweet letter and you found yourself finishing it with a hand to your chest, “this is beautiful Steven, thank you.” You reached up to bring him to your level as you hugged him.
“It was nothing really. I’m just glad you like it.”
“Like it? I love it, oh! Lemme get your gift now.” You set your gifts back on the bed while you go to your bag pulling out a small box.
“It’s not much, but it’s something.” Steven already thanks you as he reaches up to undo the bow that has the box sealed. As he lifts up the top of the cardboard you add, “if you don’t like it just let me know I’ll get you something else.”
Steven’s eyes peer inside and then he pulls something out of the box. In his hand was an Egyptian monument pyramid display, it was a little statue featuring sixteen miniature gods.
“It’s not much, it's just something, you know?”
“I love it, thank you.”
Your muscles relax at his words, finally finding comfort in them. “Thank me? Thank you.” Again you wrap your arms around his waist, and he sets the display down on the nearest free spot so he can match your position, “thank you for an amazing anniversary, I love you.”
“I love you too,” he leans down and you two meet halfway, pressing your lips together in perfect harmony until you separate, smiling from ear to ear.
“The nights not over yet we have a cheesecake to enjoy,” Steven says tugging you back towards the delicacy.
And let me tell you, that cheesecake…
That cheesecake was the best cheesecake you have ever tried in your life.
Tumblr media
Did I stay home all day, watch moon knight and eat a cheesecake all by myself? Yes. Yes I did.
Happy mooniversary everyone and have a great night ✨🌙✨

Sorry to add more to your plate but asks are good economy and i like flowers:
orchid ⇢ what’s a song you consider to be perfect?
abelia ⇢ do you have a particular piece of jewelry you always wear or can’t part with?
chia ⇢ what’s an inside joke you have with someone else?
jasmine ⇢ do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again?
palm tree ⇢ do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?
papyrus ⇢ if you put your ‘on repeat’ playlist on shuffle, what’s the first song that comes up? what do you like about it / associate it with?
Are you kidding? I love asks. They're like a cool breeze on a slightly too hot kind of late spring day when you're not ready for summer to hit yet! (Asks from here)
orchid ⇢ what’s a song you consider to be perfect?
"Creature" by Half•Alive
abelia ⇢ do you have a particular piece of jewelry you always wear or can’t part with?
Currently my pentacle necklace. And when I've completed my conversion, I'll add either a Chai of a Magen David. I haven't decided which yet.
chia ⇢ what’s an inside joke you have with someone else?
On the surface "You're so abusive" sounds like an absolutely horrible inside joke. But it's a bit of an inside joke between my Husband and I to say it whenever one of us does something that's definitively, absolutely, 100% beyond not abusive to the other; something so incredibly stupid, like not letting me have a sip of his morning Coffee.
We both have a history / past full of abusive relationships (in his case, just IPV- but in mine, both DV and IPV). It's our way of kind of just kind of ... Acknowledging we finally both found a solid, healthy, communicative one in each other -- while also kind of making fun of our past trauma itself (a sort of Gallows' Humor), and making fun of the people who hurt us, as well as the kind of things they'd abuse us over at times.
jasmine ⇢ do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch / read again?
The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.
The Haunting of Hill House.
Keeping the Moon.
The Haunting of Blythe Manor.
It's incredibly rare that it happens to me. But stories like these gutted me to the very core in a way I can't articulate very well (though have tried twice already, here and here) ... They aren't ones I can possibly rewatch or reread- especially not over and over and over in order to find all the little easter eggs like some people do; they cut open my soul once, and I have to just leave myself like that, rather than ever risk losing the magic of the emotions they made me feel at the time.
palm tree ⇢ do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?
Incredibly unpopular opinion, here: I thought the ending of Daenerys Targaryen was a good one that fit her character and its building tension and traits quite solidly, actually. The only real problem was that the showrunners rushed it because they were eager to get on to other projects, and didn't give her downfall the amount of time and focus that it truly deserved ... But I personally liked and thought it was poetic that she did go mad in the end (mad with power, mad with ambition, mad as "the mother of Dragons" and ideals of being the White Knight and The Savior, etc), and that it was John Snow, of all people, who killed her. People are just crybabies 🙄
papyrus ⇢ if you put your ‘on repeat’ playlist on shuffle, what’s the first song that comes up? what do you like about it / associate it with?

that fic meme
How many works do you have on AO3?: 142
What’s your total AO3 word count?: 408,786 (ooh. Not bad?)
What fandoms do you write for?: all. Hell baby i write for fandoms im not even IN. But at the moment, mdzs.
What are your top five fics by kudos: All this time I was just waiting for you (moon knight), These Violent Delights (moon knight), That a Ghost should be so practical (Hamilton), I don’t want anyone else (when i think about you)(moon knight), what we hate in others (we see in ourselves)(attack on titan)
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?: i do cause i actually just really really wanna talk to people!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?: probably I Call The Shots(snk), everyone died. Or Keep Pushing (snk), everyone is GOING to die.
What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?: probably Found a Place to Rest my Head (saiyuki), cause no one dies and they adopt kids.
Do you get hate on fics?: on this one particular Hannibal fic
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?: All kinds. Partial to anything with any kinda dirty talk/praise kink. Literally cant write smut without that featured. After that, a lot of D/s tones.
Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?: I’ve actually never written a crossover?! Like at most ive written “ y characters in x universe” like. Typical hogwarts au or some shit. Craziest of those i’ve written was a sentinel/guide au for spn.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?: probably not and im not sure id care even if i did.
Have you ever had a fic translated?: Yep!
Have you ever co-written a fic before?: Nothing that ever got published. Mostly shooting shit with friends.
What’s your all-time favorite ship?: Impossible to answer. Changes on every rewatch even of old favs. But i can tell you my ship dynamic! Rivals to friends to lovers. Gimme some rivals to ship ANY day.
What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?: This University Au for moon knight that is sitting half finished in my Docs is fucking haunting me.
What are your writing strengths?: Putting my whole pussy into whatever it is i’m writing. Also, imagery and extended metaphors.
What are your writing weaknesses?: Cohesion. The ideas are there but smoothing them together is so tough!
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?: I wish i could do it because it adds a flavour of authenticity to the fic but… i also know i hate reading it, and if i can suspend my disbelief and IMAGINE the character is speaking a different language when im told they are, thats enough.
First fandom you wrote for?: Technically Yugioh, but never posted. So Officially, Naruto.
Fave fic you’ve written?: impossible question BUT gun to my head for an answer, i think i did a DAMN GOOD job on Artemis Agrotera (the walking dead). Some A+ imagery and extended metaphors there.
tagging any mutuals who haven’t done this yet. But also specifically @first-renegade

What I've (Not) Watched Lately
I’ve meant to do another one of these for so long there’s quite a number of things I’ve watched or tried to watch. Under the cut because it will get long, but I need to get my feelings out, so I can move on.
I watched 3 episodes of La Brea and then gave up because by episode 3 I should care at least one character and I just didn’t. And plot-holes, lack-of-logic-wise it was worse than Revolution (and that says a LOT). How do people survive the fall and flashlights work but apparently no car does and all plane electronics go out?
I know I shouldn’t expect logic from TV shows, silly me. Anyway, it’s a shame because based on the premise this could have been the new Terra Nova (gah, I think I need a rewatch.) As if I don’t watch too many things already.
I tried Midnight Mass and quit after one episode after I asked a friend and checked doesthedogdie, because ep ending was a very nasty surprise and apparently that continues throughout the show and nope, dead cats and lots of blood & gore to follow etc. are not for me and that’s fine.
I watched two episodes of Moon Knight, but like with La Brea, just didn’t care about the characters (even though Osccar Issac is hot). The plot was at least better but not enough – and I wasn’t in the right space for the moral dilemmas (as in everyone being wrong in some way) it presented. I might give it another go some time, though.
I finally quit New Amsterdam after 4x8, because it got boring and I can’t stand Max (and Max and Helen – and to think I really shipped them in the beginning but the put it off at least a season too long and meh) and I hated the about re: hospital policy, because we can’t make non-capitalist ways work, can we?
I half watched No Time to Die. It was the worst of the Daniel Craig’s Bond movies, IMO. Madeline came out of nowhere and hence, again, I just didn’t care that much about her and everything. IDK how they couldn’t have better established the supposedly core motivation of the movie better in 2 and half hours, FFS. A minute or two less shooting would do the trick, I think.
I also watched Un peuple et son roi, because it was on national TV and it had been on my list. European production is always a nice change of tone and it was okay, but nothing special.
Now, on to more engaging things.
Speaking of European production, I watched Heartstopper and it was fluffy, light, and adorable, and I am looking forward to S2.
I’ve also watched a ton of currently airing shows (now ended/ending for the season.)
The Rookie was a pleasant time-killer, as always.
I need to quit 911 Lone Star. The only good thing I remember from this season was that short Tommy/Julius venture. So, yeah.
I only watched episode 1 of S7 of LoT and IDK if I’ll watch it through the end. Maybe just the ep(s) where Wentworth Miller was back? Otherwise I lost interest and it also got cancelled. So, depends on my mood/state of boredom.
I continued watching CPD, mainly for Tracy, of course, and it also was a nice way to kill time.
I also started Chicago Fire mid-season purely due to Brett Dalton guest-starring, but then got attached to a few other people (mostly Violet) and kept watching. And I was so satisfied with Brett’s character’s arc. It was a healing experience, nevermind the different show and all. I was happy.
I also continued watching Law and Order: SVU & Organized Crime (which I got into at the end of last summer) and these, too, are excellent time-killers. Although, for such an old show – and the same goes for the Chicago franchise – and big fandoms, the said fandoms are surely conservative AF. I guess if I want any content for random unconventional rare ships that pop into my mind, I’ll have to make it myself. If only I had the time & energy. Oh well, I guess it’ll just stay in my head.
The height of my weekly watching was the FBI franchise, as you may have noticed, in particularly the spin-offs, in particularly, the FBI: Most Wanted spin-off. I actually meta-d about those sporadically as I went along.
So in short, FBI is more or less boring and I hate them going back and forth with propping OA up for positive ‘representation’ just to then make him bow down to the ‘way the job is done’, ugh. But Shantel van Santen did bring a bit of fresh air to the show at the end of the season.
FBI: International is what it is and I wrote about it before, but I was satisfied with the season ending (I only caught up today) re: Scott’s mum and as I said before, I am invested in these characters, so I’ll keep watching.
The new boss on FBI: Most Wanted also brought in a lot of fresh-air and as you’ve probably noticed I also got invested to the point of starting giffing again (some of which I still have to do, but see: time and & energy).
Although I’ve just learned Ivan’s leaving the show, WTF. Going like that, this show will be worse than LoT; only two original characters remaining already in S4.
But, again, I’m invested in the rest of them – I also really like Kristin and Hana and Barnes – so I’ll tune in for the next season.
Oh, yeah, I’ve also been watching Stalker, because of reasons. I still have 4 episodes left, but It’s very good, too bad there was just one season.
Phew. I think that’s all. I watched a few other things I believe I talked about in separate posts already.

Anime i’ve Watched
That begin with a H (Part 2)!
Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.
Hakushaku to Yousei (Earl and Fairy):
Genres: adventure, historical, magic, romance, fantasy, shoujo
Tumblr media
Synopsis: In the nineteenth century, we find Lydia Carlton living in Scotland, making a living as a fairy doctor. She is one of those rare humans who can see and communicate with fairies. But no one believes her. However, Edgar is in need of someone with a vast knowledge of fairy lore, and Lydia is just that person. After rescuing her, he becomes her employer, but there are many secrets and emotions that seem to follow Edgar, who claims to be the Blue Knight's Earl.
Tumblr media
My Rating: 6/10
Finished airing in 2008 with a total of 12 episodes.
My Thoughts: Ah yes.... this was my phase where I watched just about anything with a blonde male lead. I vaguely remember that period in my life... which is about as much as I can say about this particular anime. Not all that memorable it would seem. Also judging by my rating it wasn’t worth remembering anyways so there you have it.
Hanasaku Iroha:
Genres: slice of life, comedy, drama
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Ohana Matsumae is an energetic and wild teenager residing in Tokyo with her carefree single mother. Abruptly, her mother decides to run away with her new boyfriend from debt collectors, forcing the young girl to fend for herself—as per her mother's "rely only on yourself" philosophy—in rural Japan, where her cold grandmother runs a small inn. Driven to adapt to the tranquil lifestyle of the countryside, Ohana experiences and deals with the challenges of working as a maid, as well as meeting and making friends with enthralling people at her new school and the inn. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 9/10
Finished airing in 2011 with a total of 26 episodes.
My Thoughts: Judging by how high I rated this anime and how little I remember about it I should probably give it a rewatch but that seems unlikely atm so i’ll just leave this here and let you all decide whether to give this one a go or not... is my rating accurate or a complete mess... i’ll let you decide! The character design is cute.
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (Looking Up At The Half-Moon):
Genres: comedy, drama, romance
Tumblr media
Synopsis: After contracting hepatitis A, Ezaki Yuuichi has been confined to a hospital, away from his friends and family, much to his displeasure. To relieve his boredom, he has taken to sneaking out of the hospital, usually putting himself on the receiving end of a beating from his nurse. Upon meeting a girl his age also staying in the hospital, he is immediately captivated by her beauty. Akiba Rika's personality is not quite as captivating as her beauty however. In fact, she is rather selfish, moody, and bossy. But as the two spend more time with each other, they become closer, sharing the ordinary joys and trials of a budding teenage romance, even when darkened with impending tragedy—for Rika's condition does not leave her much longer to live. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 9/10
Finished airing in 2006 with a total of 6 episodes.
My Thoughts: An angsty tragedy? That;s how this cover makes it look though honestly I can’t recall. This bunch of past anime sure don’t seem to have left much of an impression on my despite my high score for some. Suppose that happens? I can say with certainty that I didn’t love the art/ character design but that’s about it. Can’t say much to the story or anything else. Super short series run also... oh man that synopsis sure sound angsty... I feel like I probably wouldn’t rate this as highly now.
Handa-kun:
Genres: slice of life, comedy, shounen
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Hated by everyone around him, Sei Handa goes about his high school life regarded as an outcast—or at least that's what he believes. In reality, Sei is the most popular student on campus, revered by all for his incomparable calligraphy skills, good looks, and cool personality. However, due an endless series of misunderstandings, Handa perceives the worship he receives from his legions of fans as bullying, leading the school's idol to shut himself off from the rest of his classmates. But distancing himself from his peers doesn't deter them from adoring him; in fact, his attempts at drawing attention away from himself often end up unintentionally converting even the most skeptical of students into believers. Fashion models, shut-in delinquents, obsessive fangirls, and more—none can stand against the brilliance that is Sei Handa. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 7.5/10
Finished airing in 2016 with a total of 12 episodes.
My Thoughts: The prequel to the very enjoyable and good anime Barakamon, though honestly far more enjoyable if you look at it as an entirely separate work. The tones of the two anime a very different, while both are certainly enjoyable it causes there to be a rather large disconnect between the two. I highly recoommend the sequel (which came first) but this prequels rather meh and not necessary to enjoy the sequel.
HaruChika: Haruta to Chika wa Seishun suru:
Genres: music, slice of life, mystery, romance, school
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Chika Homura begins her high school career with a goal: to develop a "cute girl" persona. After quitting the volleyball team despite her all-star status, Chika decides to join her school's underrated Wind Instrument Club and play the flute, believing it to be the most delicate and feminine instrument. For the first time in nine years, Chika reunites with her childhood friend and total opposite, Haruta Kamijou. Unfortunately for Chika, Haruta is not fooled by her efforts to become more endearing. But this does not deter Chika, and she develops a crush on the band instructor, Shinjirou Kusakabe—but so does Haruta! However, Chika's high school life just won't go according to plan, as mysteries begin appearing around her and her friends. The club members must work together to solve the mysteries plaguing the school, all while trying to find more members to compete in musical competitions. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 4/10
Finished airing in 2016 with a total of 12 episodes.
My Thoughts: Nope. Just nope. Its shiny character design is about the only appealing thing about this anime.
Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil is a Part-Timer!):
Genres: comedy, demons, supernatural, romance, fantasy
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Striking fear into the hearts of mortals, the Demon Lord Satan begins to conquer the land of Ente Isla with his vast demon armies. However, while embarking on this brutal quest to take over the continent, his efforts are foiled by the hero Emilia, forcing Satan to make his swift retreat through a dimensional portal only to land in the human world. Along with his loyal general Alsiel, the demon finds himself stranded in modern-day Tokyo and vows to return and complete his subjugation of Ente Isla—that is, if they can find a way back! Powerless in a world without magic, Satan assumes the guise of a human named Sadao Maou and begins working at MgRonald's—a local fast-food restaurant—to make ends meet. He soon realizes that his goal of conquering Ente Isla is just not enough as he grows determined to climb the corporate ladder and become the ruler of Earth, one satisfied customer at a time! Whether it's part-time work, household chores, or simply trying to pay the rent on time, Hataraku Maou-sama! presents a hilarious view of the most mundane aspects of everyday life, all through the eyes of a hapless demon lord. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 8/10
Finished airing in 2013 with a total of 13 episodes.
My Thoughts: Appealing premise, enjoyable comedy and pleasant looking art. An alright series overall but nothing too special from what I recall. Yes i’m doing all of these reviews from memory if you haven’t figured that out yet so sometimes I just have very little to say which is generally a result of a rather unmemorable anime.

Disney Movies List
Ok first of all I want to make clear that english is not my first language. I therefore apologize in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes. Please don't be too strict with me =D
I recently bought Disney+ and I plan now to watch and review every movie, Disney has ever produced or participated in it. And I tell you, this will be a hell of a trip, because my list now contains no fewer than 701 movies. That means if I watch at least one movie every day, it will take me about 2 years to see all of them. And since I will most likely not watch a movie every day, I will definitely need at least twice as long....
For the films on my list, which I marked with a cross at the end, it means that I have seen them already. However, since I last saw most of these movies in my childhood or teenage years (so at least 15 years ago), it will be interesting for me to rewatch them after such a long time. I have probably already forgotten most of the plots.
I also plan to watch them in chronological order and rank them. The movies that I don't find on Disney+ I will watch somewhere else.
Here is the list: (The films follow the chronological order in which they were published. However, it is quite possible that I accidentally swapped a few. But I think most of it is accurate).

One opinion about almost every episode of Doctor Who that I’ve watched
spoilers, although they’re mostly from like 2005
An Unearthly Child: Whoa, they nailed the theme song right from the get-go!
Rose: The Doctor’s speech about feeling the Earth turning under his feet was chilling, and I think about it a lot in moments later in the series when he’s being goofy and casual.
The End of the World: They spent a lot of money on this one--costumes, effects, even licensed music--to prove to everyone that This Ain’t Your Daddy’s Doctor Who.
The Unquiet Dead: I realize saying “every myth is actually aliens” is kind of the Brand, but this one came off particularly strongly “we wrote a Victorian ghost story but then the boss said it had to be aliens so okay, fine, they’re fuckin’... alien ghosts.”
Aliens of London: “Being the Doctor’s companion will completely destroy your life” is a surprisingly grim running theme in the series.  Every companion eventually brings grief to their friends and families, in one way or another.
World War Three: Rose returning to the TARDIS as a conscious decision, bags packed and ready for adventure, is adorable.  The show implies that certain people are just made to be companions to the Doctor, and Rose is one of them.
Dalek: It was an interesting choice to introduce the Dalek as sympathetic and pitiful, and at the same time one of the most brutal killers on the show.  And at the same time, it’s still a ridiculous-looking thing with a toilet plunger for an arm.
The Long Game: Hey! That’s Simon Pegg!  He looks weird with blond hair!  Hi Simon Pegg!  I’m waving at the TV!
Father’s Day: I only watched this one once.  Couldn’t deal with the feelings.
The Empty Child: Stephen Moffat was so good when he wasn’t allowed to take over the whole show so he actually had to write stories with endings!
The Doctor Dances: And what a glorious ending it is!  Everybody lives, Rose!  Just this once, EVERYBODY LIVES!
Boom Town: The Doctor’s dinner with the Slitheen, and their cold deconstruction of each other’s brutality, is one hell of a scene considering the silliness of the setup.
Bad Wolf: Today on Shit You Did Not Expect: a... The Weakest Link crossover?  Really?  Really.  They play The Weakest Link with a penis-headed robot who blasts people with her laser eyes.  And then they’re on Big Brother!  Hey!  My dad worked on that!  I don’t think he was actually part of this episode though.
The Parting of the Ways: Rose doesn’t look or act like she’d make a fearsome demigod.  Which makes it much more powerful when she does.
The Christmas Invasion: “Who is this weird new guy?  I’ll never get used to him being the Doctor!” -me, for about 5 seconds before falling completely and permanently in love with Ten
New Earth: This one is so much fun! Rose and the Doctor are so adorably playful with each other, and then they get to do some incredibly goofy bodyswap acting, and then even Cassandra gets to have a sweet, humanity-affirming ending.
Tooth and Claw: So you’ve got a Scottish actor who normally fakes an English accent, pretending to be faking a Scottish accent, then pretending to forget to fake a Scottish accent and “slipping” into an English accent again.  Meanwhile I can’t even speak with a Massachusetts accent and I was born here.
School Reunion: “I couldn’t bear to watch you grow old and die” is a bullshit excuse for ditching a companion, coming from a guy whose entire personality essentially-dies every time he has a contract dispute or “creative differences.”
The Girl in the Fireplace: “Every time I travel through the time portals, several years pass for Reinette.  Too bad I have no pattern recognition abilities!”
Rise of the Cybermen: I’m glad Mickey finally gets an episode where he’s not just a barely-wanted tagalong.  He was on the verge of becoming the Xander Harris of this show.
The Age of Steel: Noel Clarke’s “I’m two people” acting is so good!  You can see whether he’s Mickey or Ricky in each shot with a glance, just from his facial expression.
The Idiot’s Lantern: ahahaha look at their hair in this episode
The Impossible Planet: I’m glad they came back to the Ood later, because it’s rather unpleasant how the Doctor in this one kinda shrugs off “so these people are keeping slaves, what’re you gonna do, cultural differences and all that.”
The Satan Pit: Making literal Satan the bad guy here is adorable.  It’s like something you’d see on 60s Star Trek, but no, it’s happening in our modern CGI-enhanced post-irony Golden Age Of TV world.  A man in a spacesuit is yelling at a giant red devil that just growls back at him and it’s all very serious drama.  I love this show.
Love & Monsters: This is the one where a girl gets turned into a paving slab but then her boyfriend announces that it’s okay because they’re still having sex.  Yeah.  That happened.
Fear Her: I think this one’s mostly filler
Army of Ghosts: There’s just way too much going on here.  We’ve got ghosts and Cybermen and Torchwood and Daleks and a parallel universe and... anyway I think the concept of using those flimsy paper 3D glasses as a magical item is kind of adorable.
Doomsday: ROSE!  ROSE NO!  COME BACK!  ROOOSE!!!
The Runaway Bride: Catherine Tate is so good!  I’m so glad they brought her back!
Smith and Jones: I love that Martha immediately distinguishes herself as a potential companion by being excited instead of terrified that they’ve been teleported to the moon.  She doesn’t even know how they have air, but she’s already like “sweet! an Adventure!”
The Shakespeare Code: By theater nerds, for theater nerds, probably insufferable to everyone else, but theater nerds have long been comfortable with that.
Gridlock: It feels a little too Socially Responsible how the Doctor and Martha are immediately and violently anti-drug.  This world has patches that bring you magical joy with no apparent side effects, and instead of being curious about it the way they usually are about future technology, they just go straight to “SAY NOPE TO DOPE, KIDS!!!”
Daleks in Manhattan: Having Daleks use the old-school pepperpot design and robot-screamy-voices in the modern series is like putting nipples and a codpiece on the Batsuit in The Dark Knight.  Which is to say, it’s brilliant and I love it.
Evolution of the Daleks: too much plot, I’m sleepy
The Lazarus Experiment: I cannot believe multiple adults saw the wig Mark Gatiss wears in this episode and agreed that would be okay.
42: I really like these self-contained episodes that don’t set up any big arcs or prophesies or personal dramas.  There’s just a ticking clock, a mystery, a spaceship, and a whole lot of running up and down hallways whilst shouting.
Human Nature: Hey, it’s Jojen Reed as an uncanny psychic child!  And Viserys Targaryen as a sadistic upper-class brat!
The Family of Blood: Man, the Doctor really dicked Martha over with this one.  “You’re going to be a domestic servant, because you’re black!  And I’m going to turn myself into an old-timey racist who doesn’t know who you are!  And yet somehow you’re supposed to be in charge of making sure I carry out all my plans!”
Blink: This is a perfect episode of television.
Utopia:💖😍🥰😘 jack harkness i love you 😘🥰😍💖
The Sound of Drums: “Menacing goofiness” is a strange place for an actor to aim, but damn if John Simm doesn’t hit it.
Last of the Time Lords: “I’ve been traveling around the world, fomenting resistance and spreading hope... in the idea that the Doctor is magic and can fix everything by himself.  That’s what resistance to fascism is, right?  Just throwing all your resources in with a different all-powerful authority-father-savior figure?”
Voyage of the Damned: Giving the Doctor a one-off temporary companion, and expecting people to care about her as much as Rose or Martha, doesn’t really work.  “Oh no, she’s dying.  Not whatserface. Oh no.”
Partners in Crime: I love that they’re giving the Doctor a companion who doesn’t have any kind of psychosexuromantic entanglement with him, but is really just a friend.  I love that they’re giving the Doctor a companion who’s (by actors’ ages, at least) older than him.  ...Oh shit, is it bad that these are the same one?
The Fires of Pompeii: “I wish we could save the people of Pompeii, but I am powerless to change this part of history... oh wait, no, I’ll save this one random family on a whim.  Guess I could change history after all!  Sorry, other 20,000 people who are still getting volcanoed to death!”
Planet of the Ood: “The companion is the Doctor’s conscience” is always true, but Donna really owns it.  She spares no time for pretending that “oh but what if the Ood are supposed to be slaves” is an interesting argument.
The Sontaren Strategem: Another one of those “too much plot for me” episodes.  I’m a simple man; just give me a monster and a hallway to run down.
The Poison Sky: ditto
The Doctor’s Daughter: It’s weird that they got married in real life.  Like, their actual age difference is within the half-plus-seven rule, and she wasn’t even really his daughter daughter on the show, but, like, it’s still a little tiny bit weird.
The Unicorn and the Wasp: I guess if I read Agatha Christie books I would understand some of these references?
Silence in the Library: Holy shit, this one is scary.  I don’t hide behind the couch often watching Doctor Who, but... “Hey, who turned out the lights?”
Forest of the Dead: River’s speech about “when the wind stands fair and the Doctor comes to call, everybody lives” is self-indulgent Stephen Moffat hooey and a blatant repeat from “The Doctor Dances” but I’ve got goosebumps anyway.
Midnight: Wow.  You don’t really expect to be using the phrase “a gut-punch of an episode” about the same series that was just playing Detective Funtimes With Agatha Christie, but this was a gut-punch of an episode.
Turn Left: I’ve rewatched a lot of these, but I couldn’t watch this one more than once because I felt so sad about Wilfred. Something in his performance is just wrenching.
The Stolen Earth: I couldn’t watch this one more than once because it’s hard to summon up the energy to follow the “let’s throw everything that’s ever happened onto the show into this stew” plotline.
Journey’s End: HOW DARE YOU DO DONNA LIKE THAT.  HOW DARE YOU.
The Next Doctor: Hey!  That’s not Matt Smith!  I thought it was gonna be Matt Smith.
Planet of the Dead: The Doctor without a permanent companion is always an uncomfortable dynamic.  Both because he needs a conscience/foil/audience-surrogate, and because otherwise we have to go through the “the Doctor is the perfect boyfriend who always breaks your heart” narrative all over again every damn episode.
The Waters of Mars: I like when the Doctor isn’t a good person.  When he gets all arrogant and inhuman and at moments even sinister, that’s far more interesting than when he’s a straightforward hero.
The End of Time: Look, I loved David Tennant’s run on this show.  He’s my favorite Doctor and my imaginary boyfriend.  If there’s anyone I don’t mind watching get a bit self-indulgent, it’s Ten.  But even from this perspective, I think it was not a good idea to let him spend a half hour dying while crying piteously and also somehow touring his entire history on the show.  It really was not.
The Eleventh Hour:  This feels like the first episode of an entirely new show.  There’s very little in characters or plotlines (or writers or producers) connecting it to anything that happened before.  The sense of a fresh start is nice, but this literally is not the same show I enjoyed before.
The Beast Below: Oh.  It’s a space whale.  That’s cool I guess.  This show is okay and everything, but there’s no way I would have really gotten into it if I’d started watching here.
Victory of the Daleks: Upon reading the Wikipedia summary of this episode, I realized that I had, in fact, watched it.
The Time of Angels: “Blink” was, as I said, perfect.  But not because the Angels are the greatest enemy ever devised; they’re creepy and all, but most of the fun in “Blink” comes from the meticulously satisfying construction of the time loops.  Taking that element out, and just making the Angels into generic boogeymen, was a terrible idea.
Flesh and Stone: Oh god, there’s so many mediocre Eleven episodes.  Don’t get me wrong, Matt Smith is great.  I don’t blame him.  But I’m just not feeling the energy to go through every one of these damn things anymore.
[...]
Let’s Kill Hitler: This is the one that finally defeated me.  I wasn’t really offended, just... tired.  Things had gotten so wrapped up in complicated portentous chosen-savior-of-everything plots and we couldn’t have even one episode anymore that was just a normal time travel adventure.  I think about halfway through here, I gave up on Doctor Who.
Oh well.  There’s still time to come back to it if I want.  And we’ll always have “Blink.”

book 2 trailer analysis
ill be posting some screencaps of the trailer sometime tomorrow as well so keep an eye out!
AAAAAAAAAAA ITS HERE!!!!!!
okay so a quick rewatch before I go through it frame by frame and just. god im so excited i love this show so much
anyways everything's gonna be under the cut bc its long and spoilery if u havent seen the trailer yet
okay so the opening clip looks like its in a human town. dragang is being chased across the bridge by some angry humans with pitchforks. raylas wearing the human cape. they got caught?
some clips from s1
okay. ezran ellis and zym are outside this white building. its shaped similarly to the star elf buildings we see later on. did they have to sit out some stuff that rayla and callum got to see? or is this like. lujanne's house or something
the fire (?) dragon is coming down on "a town of katolis" that soren is in. im assuming this isnt near the castle and claudia is there but out of frame, so did they get caught up in something on accident or were the dragons drawn to them because of the spell? lujanne recognized it, the dragons might too
wife (sunfire knight)
if my blog wasnt more cool toned that would be my new header oh my god
in the upper left corner of the screen theres a castle. there aren't any human kingdoms that are on the banks of a lava waterfall so is that an elf castle? or is this the place where all the royals got that fire background?
im dumb thats probably a halfway castle and the lava river is the border i forgot they said border over this
fuck off vitriol
elves attacking amaya and her squadron. these are likely the sunfire elves at the border, since amaya is also at the border. the castle in the last shot is probably more of a fortress
wife kicking ass! w her cool ass sword
something i noticed about the sunfire elves, or at least the warriors. the headdresses they wear are actually armor to protect their horns! they also have markings/tattoos like moonshadow elves, but they seem less elaborate (at least on their face)
does this mean horns are as important in all elf races or just sunfire elf races?
opeli ur the only bitch in this house i trust. is viren keeping the missions w the brodigies under wraps or does opeli think that's not enough?
boat! are they on their way to evenere?
awe
star elf bitch there u are u sexy bastard. zi @moonxadia made a fantastic theory on that elf here, but tl;dr that's elarion being shady (as much as ive liked the aaravos theories i dont think thats him)
viren being shady (spell had similar look as star elf from last clip)
RAYLA I MISSED YOU
zym i would die for you
the background to that looks interesting- are they having a big dinner of some sort?
ik other people have said this but that's definetly runaans strike crew from early s1. the very dead strike crew. zombie elves!
also if they touch a hair on aanyas head i Will Cry she looks so small in that throne...
(altho they dont really seem to be attacking her at all?)
okay so i know people have been saying the on fire shot are elves but i really dont think so. none of them have horns or the sunfire headdresses. i think that's a human army
AZYMONDIAS THE FUTURE MOST POWERFUL BEING IN THE WORLD I WOULD TAKE A BULLET FOR YOU IN A HEARTBEAT
(its another moon moth. same one as from earlier in the trailer?)
so in the shot of dragang on The Bird, callum looks really upset. like, seriously upset. this might be part of a joke bc hes holding bait, but im worried
ezran baby boy. hes so worried
zym!!!! i love you!!!!!!!
these pillars look real cool. is this a magic place?
okay so runaans deceased elf crew again, but pre-zombification (or post?) did lujanne summon them? is it a moon elf thing? why are they stars? is it a star elf clearing?
so zoom out, theyre in these... gazebos? made of starlight? nothing to comment it just looks real cool
hey claudia maybe... not.
im very concerned that when claudia said "you take creatures that are born with magic inside and squeeze it out of them" it panned over zym briefly
callum looked concerned so im hoping its a flashback of some sort? but they look like theyre in an elf place... idk. im worried about him this season
i know i said what i said but dark magic claudia is hot
wtf was that thing tho
rayla is suspicious™ (and she should be tbh)
sword fight!! im both excited and scared
callum is having a rough time and i want to hug him
thankfully raylas there
so a lot of people have said this but i do think thats because of harrow, not the dark magic. idk why i think that but. shrug
so i wanna talk about the audio playing over these last few bullets real quick. rayla says they cant trust soren and claudia, followed immediately by lujanne saying "real trust is about accepting the dark parts we will never know" which makes me curious. did brodigies and catch up with dragang while they were still with lujanne? since the group splits sometime during the season
if it is the case im curious how theyre gonna go from hating elves to being in a traveling party with 2 of them and a baby dragon
and if thats not the case, what is lujanne talking about?
wait i just had a really horrible thought what if they lied to win dragang's trust and rayla is the only one that's suspicious
moving on,
rayla and callum both look Real Concerned wtf are they talking about
so it looks like lujanne is leading callum to some Elf Thing; maybe its right before she shows him the star elf ghosts? it does look to be around sunset
DRAGON QUEEN???
even if its not tHATS THE POSTER DRAGON HELLO!!!!
rayla i will never not love you
EZRAN I WILL NEVER NOT LOVE YOU
sarai Hes Not Worth It
im excited about flashbacks though 👀
hello lord voltron. perish.
okay so thats the same fire dragon from earlier, but w its face all cut up. soren was prepared to go sword vs dragon and i think he won
"watch yo fuckin dog bitch" "he dont bite" "yES HE DO"
thats the vibe coming from that wolf/badger thing. also that guy screaming at the cat in his backyard
but fr what is that
thunder kinda looks like voldemort from this angle ngl
okay. okay. dark magic callum is a go
buddy what the FUCK do you think youre doing
ive seen some things saying that he's being controlled but i dont think so. i think he listened to claudia and im very curious to see how this affects his relationship with rayla
i think he was missing being the mage? which is why he tried to learn primal magic from lujanne but failed ultimately
depending on the theory, i wonder how people will spin half-elf!callum for this
i dont actually know if elves can even use dark magic fjnshfk like i assume they can but?? who knows
fire golem?? and who has the sword
my bad theres soren v dragon i thought it was earlier
mr fire dragon sir how the fuck did you lose. you have teeth? claws? wings? presumably fire powers?
AAAAAAAAAA TWO WEEKS!!!!!!!

kay so for those of you who don’t know, my M.O. is to take things that have skeletal or shallow lore and over complicate the whole damn thing especially with specific mythos, creation stories, and deity pantheons, so Tokyo Mew Mew is no different; under the cut commences my long and convoluted bits of lore that I have headcanoned and fanoned the shit out of for this series
Ryou says at one point that he thinks it was “no accident” that Ichigo and the girls were the ones who became Earth’s defenders, after Masaya turns out to be Deep Blue.  So time to extrapolate the fuck out of that.
All of the Mew Mews are very heavily coded, both in the anime and manga, to correspond to one of the four natural elements.  Mint is Air, Lettuce is Water, Pudding is Earth, and Zakuro is Fire.  In the manga especially, even, each of them uses the Mew Aqua to cleanse their specific element (Mint cleans the air from the Chimera Moth, Lettuce cleans the ocean, Pudding saves Tokyo Dome from collapsing due to instability in the earth, and Zakuro destroys the dome that causes an intense heat wave in Tokyo).
Then there’s Ichigo.  Ichigo doesn’t correspond to one of the natural elements, but she does correspond to a somewhat common trope in five-person-elemental-teams: in other words, Heart (Captain Planet is that you?).  This is furthered by the fact that in the manga, when she uses the Mew Aqua, it’s to save Masaya’s life, the person she loves.  I would actually almost hazard to say that she’s meant to represent the whole of the planet itself, or even life itself, as her use of Mew Aqua in the manga also restores plant life to the earth, and restores life to others (the Mews, Masaya, and the aliens).  In other words, Ichigo is the Sailor Earth.  (How’s that for a Sailor Moon plot twist?)
Now what the fuck does any of this have to do with anything in this post about made-up lore?  Well, I’m getting to that.  Let’s put together a few more concepts first.
First: Mew Aqua.  It’s both a liquid and a crystal, said to have been created by the aliens, the previous inhabitants of earth, but for an unknown purpose (I haven’t yet finished my rewatch of the series, but to the best of my knowledge, they never fully address why it was made).  It’s an incredible force that can cleanse the pollution of the earth and restore it to its natural state, influence strange phenomenon like the sudden overnight sprouting of an entire forest in the middle of a city, and even restore life.  That is a pretty INTENSE thing that these aliens made....and if they’re the ones who made it, and the aliens want it so that they can use it to restore Earth to what they want, why didn’t the aliens fleeing the original destruction of Earth just...use Mew Aqua?
The final concept I want to bring up before I move onto my actual lore is where Masaya/Blue Knight/Deep Blue fits into all of this.  Masaya is effectively a member of Tokyo Mew Mew, as a complement to Ichigo.  They’re not just a good couple, they’re a battle couple too: their attacks work together and Masaya is automatically tuned in to whenever Ichigo needs help.  But we’ve already got a blue member of the team (Mint) so why the heck did they decide to color code Masaya and Deep Blue as well, blue?  There were other colors available, like red or black, that might have even looked more aesthetically pleasing overall.  It’s also important to mention that Kish, Pai, and Taruto refer to Deep Blue as a “god.”
So where the fuck am I going with this?  Let’s start with this: I don’t think Deep Blue is the only god in this series.  Warning: as we go ahead, I will stop referring to this as headcanon and start talking about it like it’s a legit theory.  It is not.  I just don’t want to keep saying “this is what I think” over and over again.
Deep Blue as a god, first.  So, back to the question.  Why is Deep Blue, well, Blue?  Because Deep Blue is the sky.
Where Ichigo represents the earth as a whole, the planet itself, the terrestrial body, Deep Blue/Masaya is the complementary opposite: the sky and the atmosphere that surrounds the planet.  The Mews then each represent a major part of the make-up of the planet in a more specific, lesser form: once again, Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire (take a drink if the song got stuck in your head).
It makes sense again when you look at Kish, Pai, Taruto, and their people.  They specifically worship Deep Blue as a god, and if Deep Blue is the god of the sky, then their abilities are in keeping with this.  They can fly, they don’t require oxygen to breathe and seem perfectly all right with varying pressure, allowing them to live quite comfortably in any part of the atmosphere, and they can teleport, moving between the air from place to place.  All things that make sense for a people who are beholden to a god of the sky.
This is where my “”creation story”” comes in.  Deep Blue is the sky, and Ichigo represents the Earth.  Deep Blue is a god who lay partially dormant inside a human until he could be awakened.  Masaya is human, but contains the remains of an ancient god of the sky.  If Ryou is correct in that there was no mistake that it was Ichigo, the one who loved Masaya, who became a Mew Mew to face him, then why couldn’t Ichigo be the same way?  Why couldn’t Ichigo just so happen to be the reincarnation/vessel of the remains of the god of the Earth?
So I suppose this is where the story starts.  A very long time ago, when Kish’s people still lived on the earth, there were gods that lived among them.  The most revered were the Mother Earth who granted them life, and the Father Sky who enfolded them.  Also worshiped were the ephemeral and alien forces of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air, which had no shape or form but rather took the visage of the creatures that best represented them, and flickered from form to form when it suited them.  Father Sky was known as Deep Blue, and Mother Earth was known as μ (Myu/Mew).  It was said by their people that Deep Blue and Mew were in love.
By some strange, unknown catastrophe, perhaps by a mismanaging of Mew’s bounty or some unforeseeable disaster, or perhaps by some strange quarrel between Mew and Deep Blue, the planet underwent a series of natural disasters, making it nearly impossible to live on.  It’s not certain what caused the rift between Mew and Deep Blue, or if in fact there was a rift at all, but something violently drove them apart.  The peoples of the planet made reluctant plans to flee for a new home.  The strain of their people leaving them behind was too great for the gods who depended on their people’s belief.  Deep Blue went with them, but he was shorn in two, as the atmosphere could not fully leave the planet behind.  Half of him went with the fleeing peoples, dormant and dying, and ensuring that no planet they found could ever be a happy home enfolded by a forgiving atmosphere.  The other half fell back down to the earth, and was hidden among the souls of the creatures that still clung to life on its surface.
Mew, as the Earth itself, could quite obviously not be taken away with the fleeing people, no more than a planet could move out of orbit.  But the loss of Deep Blue was so terrible, so painful, that she could only cry.  And from her tears, which scattered across the whole of her, came the liquified crystals that would later be known as Mew Aqua.
As time passed, the earth settled once again, and creatures began to flourish.  Humans evolved, and among them, the lasting spirit of Deep Blue began to slowly reawakened.  After many thousands of years, when humans matured, the sleeping Mew sensed the approach of her love: the aliens were once again reaching out back towards the jewel they had left, and Deep Blue’s awakening self turned his eyes back towards home as well.  But the thousands of years of sleep, and the ragged tear that had split him had caused Deep Blue to become angry and resentful.  He no longer cared for either his people or Mew, but rather wanted to destroy that which he had been unable to keep.
Mew could sense his malice, and out of love for the creatures that were born on her soil, she did what Deep Blue’s spirit did.  She consigned what remained of her faded self to the souls of humanity.  Some years later, the new host of Deep Blue’s soul would be born.  Near the same time, a girl with the soul of Mew would also arise.  The souls of Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire were not human enough to be passed into a human soul, but they could give their blessing, and so they, too, blessed several humans with their hopes.
When Deep Blue and his people returned to the Earth, there were warriors waiting to meet him, to protect the planet from his yet hidden, murderous rage.  Deep Blue did not remember everything, but he did know with a fiery instinct that these warriors were specifically his bane -- which is why he focused all his efforts on just them, on just their city, on just collecting the Mew Aqua, the tears of the one he had once loved, to facilitate his awakening.
I’m going to drop my narrator voice now and just say: this is a lot of shit that I had way too much fun crafting and I really fucking want to write fic about this but i need to figure out how to streamline it into a usable setting that won’t make me want to die with how much work it is, and for now i just want to dump this world building on SOMEONE because it’s been in my head for weeks.
that’s all i have now anyway thank you for reading this ridiculously long and unnecessary fake lore post

Dear 📓,
It's difficult to get back into a habit. I've been staring at this blinking cursor for half an hour, fingers resting on the keyboard, willing myself to begin.
Today is 420. 💙 and I celebrated by having a couple hoots and snuggled on the living room sofa. Then we realized the new episode of Moon Knight had dropped and watched that.
I haven’t paid for our Disney + account in months. We gave the login information to a couple of friends though and I assume one of them is. I’m grateful. It was a pleasant surprise — both that I could watch it and that I wanted to. I can feel my special interest resurging and I'm planning to do a complete MCU rewatch.
Afterward, I went to the bedroom, sat at my makeshift "desk", and worked on my resume. I paid for a Google Docs template. It's rather simple compared to my old one, but the design is quite elegant. I've put in my last 5 years of job experience. Tommorow, I'll fill in the career highlights and educaton section. Might work on some cover letters as well.
I'm not as terrified about our financial situation as I was yesterday. My former boss sent me my final paycheque early.  It's enough to pay rent for this month. We'll have to look into food banks or donations for food though.
I'm so fucking tired of asking for help, but I haven't heard back from disability. It's been five months. Every time I call them the line is busy and I'm instructed by a robot to hang up and to try again later.  It seems impossible to reach an actual human being.
Around 6pm, 💙 and I went for a walk. I stopped at the vape store and he continued to the grochery store to pick up sugar and tea. I used my McDonald's points to get an iced coffee. There wasn't enough cream in it, they didn't stir the syrup, and the cardboard straw was soggy. At least it was free.
🎧 has been bumping around in the background today. I threw on his Mother Mother playlist and now he's chattering about code. We want to make a sideblog for creating themes, but I'm not sure where we will get the energy for that. Maybe if we're approved for disability.
I can hear 💙 in the kitchen. He’s making stir fry and when it’s done we’re going to end this day the same way it started.
Yours,
🌱

FITP: Journeyman
Tumblr media
‘Flash in the Pan’ is a somewhat recurring semi-regular series about a television show that was a one-season wonder (or in most cases half a season) that in my opinion deserves to be remembered.
Today marks 14 years since Journeyman premiered on NBC in the fall of 2007. The show, which was created by Kevin Falls (who later co-created the underrated Franklin & Bash), stars Kevin McKidd as a man who is involuntarily traveling through time. In every episode he finds himself traveling into the past in order to help a certain person and change their future.
That might sound like Quantum Leap, but there are two major differences between that iconic series and the short-lived Journeyman.  In Journeyman, the main character Dan Vasser has some time everyday life in between jumps, while Leap’s Samuel Beckett is trapped jumping from time period to time period. This also causes issues in his everyday life as he continuously disappears from time to time causing suspicion with his wife (Gretchen Egolf) and his police detective brother, played by Reed Diamond who later starred on Franklin & Bash. This causes situations akin to The Time Traveler’s Wife, but without awkward grooming.
Also unlike Quantum Leap, Vasser doesn’t jump into someone else’s life in the past, he is traveling into a past where an earlier version of him lives and breathes and needs to be avoided at all costs. Not to mention the constant threat of running into his old girlfriend, played by Moon Bloodgood, who passed away nine years prior (who has secrets of her own that Vassar and the audience discover over time).
The show was ultimately a victim of bad circumstances (and low ratings). When the Writer’s Strike began in November 2007, all 13 of Journeyman’s initially ordered episodes were complete, however, the strike made an order by NBC for the back nine episodes impossible. So when the 13th episode aired on December 19, 2007, it was the de facto series finale. When NBC finally announced its fall 2008 schedule in April 2008, Journeyman was left off in favor of new scripted dramas My Own Worst Enemy (canceled after four episodes aired), Knight Rider (not renewed for a second season after its episode order was cut short), and Crusoe (you guessed it, canceled after 13 episodes).
Was the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike completely to blame for the quick end to Journeyman, absolutely not. But it was a factor. Early episodes could have warranted a full-season pickup if the threat of a strike wasn’t on the horizon. This is important to keep in mind as we sit on the cusp of another potential strike in the film and television business, that being one from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), and its 150,000 members, which is set to hold a nationwide strike authorization vote in early October. Negotiations between the IATSE and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP) broke down this month leading to a possibility of an industry-halting strike.
Regardless of the reason, it went off the air, during its short run, Journeyman was a show I thoroughly enjoyed tuning into week after week and was disappointed to see it end and its story left unfinished. The show is currently unavailable to stream or purchase digitally, though old copies of the DVD are out there in the world for those inclined. If it ever does pop up on Amazon Prime or Hulu or Peacock one day, I will absolutely make the journey to rewatch it.

A response to Rob Ager’s “WHY POST-MILLENNIAL MOVIES ARE SO BAD“
After reading his borderline conspiracy theory take on A Clockwork Orange, I told myself I would avoid Rob Ager’s other work. I lied. A few weeks ago, YouTube recommended a 50-minute video by Ager in which he outlined why he thinks modern cinema sucks. I thought this would be good for a laugh and clicked it. Surprisingly, what he had to say intrigued me-- not because I agreed with all of it, but because I could see where he was coming from at times. I recently read his print version of this video, hoping he would go more into depth-- he really doesn’t.
I’ll give credit where credit’s due and say I think there is validity to some of his points (mostly non-distinct musical scores, ideological conformity, length, dominance of spectacle, internet piracy and streaming’s effect on box office numbers); however, I feel like much of this is personal taste. I don’t care for the common aesthetic of a lot of modern Hollywood blockbusters and I too cannot stand an endless stream of mumbled dialogue—but this all feels like cherry-picking. And badly argued cherry-picking at that.
Let’s start with how Ager begins the print version of his argument:
If you are of the opinion that post-millennial movies are generally as good as movies of the preceding half century of annual film releases then there's no purpose in you reading this article. It is written for readers who already agree that post-millennial movies are comparatively poor and who wish to gain a little more insight into why it is the case. Each major argument in this article could be made with a lot more detail along with extensive movie examples, but it would result in the article being a very long read. Meanwhile, I'm not particularly interested in attempted counter arguments from people wishing to persuade me, against my experience, that good movies haven't become a rarity. I may, further down the line, produce in depth articles and videos that expand on certain basic arguments made in this article. Thanks and enjoy.
Basically, “Don’t argue with me because I’m right.” A great way to make yourself seem non-biased and open-minded.
For his first argument, Ager claims he could come up with more numbers of great films in the past as compared to anything made after 2000. His definition of great movie is laid out as features that “had rewatch value or at least being movies that somehow pushed the boundaries of cinema in some memorable way.” This is SUPER subjective, especially when Mr. Ager puts movies like Oliver! or Halloween 3 on his great movies list. Once again, we all have different ideas of what is or isn’t a “Great Movie,” and a movie doesn’t need to be groundbreaking or brilliant for me to give it a 10/10—but Ager is claiming precious few new movies have rewatch value. Now I know I mostly prefer pre-1980s movies and am severely behind on anything made after 1990, but hell, even I can come up with several 21st century films I think have rewatch value (to name a few: Spirited Away, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Lost in Translation, Moon, Ida, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Super, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Neon Demon, Marie Antoinette, Black Swan, Hot Fuzz, The Tale of Princess Kaguya, The Wind Rises, Millenium Actress, The Game, Frances Ha, Up, LOTR trilogy). Also, Ager seems to mostly ignore foreign movies and animation; the whole world isn’t Hollywood.
I taught a college freshman composition course earlier this year and above all, I wanted my students to leave that class knowing one thing: if you are going to make an argumentative claim, you must back it up with sufficient evidence. Without evidence, the claim is useless, empty. Mr. Ager does not seem to realize this. He claims the protagonists in most modern Hollywood movies are morons, but he only cites Drive as an example—and even then, he doesn’t state why he thought the hero there was dumb. He calls Christopher Nolan boring, claims The Revenant was a terrible movie, and that most of Tarantino’s post-2000 movies are poor—all valid responses, mind you, seeing as art is subjective (what moves you might bore the hell outta me and vice-versa), but he never states WHY. He claims many movies are miscast these days—but never cites enough examples to convince me this is a trend. He says in the preface that if he did name examples, “the list would be too long,” but sometimes length isn’t a bad thing, especially when you are at the risk of making VERY sweeping generalizations. As a result, many of his arguments lack credibility; it feels like hearing your grandpa complain about movies he doesn’t watch. And considering how Ager claims he turns most modern movies off “after 20 minutes,” I have to wonder if he’s even qualified to talk about modern cinema as a whole at all.
I reiterate: he does have his points and I sympathize with his frustration with big Hollywood movies (part of the reason I barely go to the cinema outside of revival screenings is because I’d rather not pay ten bucks to see forgettable Hollywood schlock), but he’s being a touch—well, unfair, to put it nicely.
However, one point he made particularly interested me. Ager claims that in a world dominated by mass media, art has become “redundant” in conveying themes and messages:
Art tends to thrive when free speech is stifled. It provides an alternative means of expression for what  isn’t allowed to be spoken. But with the onset of the internet there is now  massive scope for anybody to say what they want to say to however many millions  of people are willing to listen. This sort of puts a lot of artistic expression   on a bit of a back burner. Isn’t it easier to just state your thoughts clearly  in words instead of wrapping them in fiction? It’s not a total redundancy  though because verbal statements are confined to the limited logic of language.  Human experience has facets for which we don’t yet have sufficient words to  describe and this is where art can still strike a chord with people.
Mass media has had a big impact on our lives, sure-- but the idea that art serves no moral function of any kind now does not sit well with me. What do you guys think? (Particularly you @aclockworkfilmsnob, considering you’re an aspiring filmmaker and all.)
Here’s the article, if anyone’s interested in reading it for themeselves:

Game of Thrones 7x06: Run Joe, Run
Tumblr media
Woo boy that was A LOT. Like a lot, a lot. In so many different ways. I would even go so far as to describe some elements as 'extra'. Yes there was excitement, action, and feels. I even admit to screaming bloody murder when the zombie bear came from a direction I didn't expect. But when all was said and done I couldn't help but feel a bit...used. This season, although boasting some great moments, has felt undeniably different than previous years. Instead of focussing on building out a world and the characters that inhabit it, the show is now rocketing towards a foregone conclusion. If the world of Game of Thrones is a chess board and we have spent the past several years watching knights and queens slowly slide around the squares jockeying for position, this season is the equivalent of knocking it all to the ground and letting the pieces literally fall where they may. Alternatively, if the world of Game of Thrones was a high-end Barbie collector's basement, this is the season his eight-year-old niece broke in, ripped 1993 Holiday Barbie out of her box and made her make out with 1960 1st edition Ken. And neither of those things are inherently bad, playing with dolls and knocking a boring game on the floor are both entertaining in and of themselves, but they are also a departure from what we have come to expect.
Tumblr media
Before this season I never thought about things like "Wait- how many long miles IS Westeros? What is the land speed of a laden Raven? What's the MPH on a dragon? How long by air? How long by sea?" I wasn't worried about the logistics, the tech specs. We had other things to worry about, like battle strategies, familial strain, and tyrannical kings. But now it feels as if the curtain is starting to be pulled aside and we are for the first time seeing the mechanics at work behind the scenes. While there were thrills to be had in this super-sized penultimate outing of season seven, they came at a price. In the after-episode special Benioff and Weiss openly admitted to essentially reverse-engineering the entire episode in order to get the final shock of zombie dragon, rather than letting it be the consequence of an organic series of events. One of the reasons Game of Thrones works so well is that consequences, even the upsetting ones, feel earned. The Red Wedding, for example, tragic as it was, was ultimately palatable because it made sense in the larger story. It was the tangible result of a series of connectable actions, not a gambit for ratings. Often the killing of beloved characters leads fan to become disillusioned with a show because it's done in the service of shock value, rather than organic storytelling. But as major characters drop on Game of Thrones, it only acts to draw the audience in further because it’s done in a way that rewards previous storytelling. The idea that characters are existing in a real world with real stakes and consequences is compelling and rare. Up until this season Game of Thrones never had characters rendered immortal by their series regular contracts, or even clear-cut heroes and villains. Yes, we root for different characters and houses, but at this point no one has a clean moral conscious. Those qualities are exactly what made Game of Thrones so good, and what it is seemingly starting to lose.  It's worth pointing out that up until recently the show has had source material to rely on for guidance, and is now having to pick it's own path to the end. Viewer’s theories about the show’s endgame have become increasingly out there, perhaps in response to a world where outcome is not necessarily determined by prior events. For better or worse, anything is possible.

This episode was some moments of interest strung together with moments of "what?!?!?". Let's begin. ZARTF (Zombie Acquisition and Retrieval Task Force), as well as a few randos clearly marked for death, sally forth into the north. This whole episode gave me greatest hits of Lord of the Rings vibes, including "walking in a straight line across a mountain", "being rescued by a giant winged beast at the last second", and "rolling up half dead on a horse". I really gotta carve out 10 hours to rewatch those. To pass the time tromping through the snow our seven "heroes" try and work through their daddy issues (a little late imo), and Jon makes a half-assed attempt to give Longclaw back to Jorah (conveniently failing to mention it's like the only thing that kills White Walkers). The first sign of trouble comes when the group is set upon by a zombie bear! You hate to see that. Some of the red shirts are killed, Top Knot McGillicutty is wounded, and Jorah saves the day with his dragon glass dagger. Which I guess they all have? Or just Jorah? Unclear. This scene is what we like to call in the biz a foreshadowing.

Meanwhile in Dragonstone Dany is mooning over Jon Snow, even though he is a short stack (he IS super little) and ignores Tyrion who is attempting to invent democracy. In their exchange it's reiterated that Dany can never have babies (beyond her dragon babies), making a potential hold on the Iron Throne tenuous at best (Jon is still the *true* heir, but doesn't seem like Bran is going to tell anyone that anytime soon). Dany would rather not talk about any of that though, and would rather crush/not crush on the King of the Short. Speaking of women on the edge, the Sisters Stark are also failing to see eye to eye. After discovering Arya's BAG OF FACES (I have so many questions about the logistics of face wearing, but I am simply too tired to get into it), Sansa is understandably concerned. These concerns are heightened when creepy-ass Arya pops in to play a decidedly threatening game of questions. Arya seems to think Sansa is out to usurp Jon because she is a Cersei-in-training. Sansa thinks Arya is a terrifying demon child. This is a relationship that has also become frustrating centering around a conflict that doesn't ring true. While it's true that Arya and Sansa have become very different young women, there is more that unites than divides them at this point and Arya's extreme aggression towards her sister feels unwarranted. The core characteristic of the Stark family is that they ARE the Stark family. Arya put aside her dreams of Cersei killing in order to reclaim her heritage, and with the pack dwindling the remaining wolves have to stick together now more than ever. Both of these women have been through extreme trauma, both of them have had to make unthinkable choices in order to survive, and both of them have been continually underestimated by their male cohorts. I'm not saying this is a relationship that should not be without conflict, but their animosity lacks nuance. Granted this show doesn't have a lot of experience with complicated female relationships, but Sansa and Arya attempting to reconnect as complex young women in a time of crisis feels like a real missed opportunity.

And I have seen the Twitter theories that say that the two girls are gaming Littlefinger together, that Sansa sending Brienne away (to an I think prematurely scheduled zombie viewing) right after Littlefinger advised her to use Brienne against Arya is concrete proof. As much as I hope this is all true, it just doesn't seem likely at this point. But maybe Sansa's bizarrely abrupt send off of her last loyal subject really was a clue to a larger plot, or maybe it's just an excuse to put Brienne back in Jaime's path to give him a last second shot of moral obligation. I would love nothing more for my pessimistic theories surrounding two of my long time favs to be proven wrong. These two characters, no matter their ultimate fate, deserve the chance at a final team up.

Back up north, our band of brothers conveniently stumble upon a manageable squadron of zombies led by a White Walker. After dispatching the Walker all the zombies but *one* turn into dust. The plan is going smoothly! However the last zombie calls the rest of the hoard and they are well and truly fucked. The group sends good old Gendry to run back to the Wall (an unknown distance) to raven Dany for help, while the rest of the pack becomes stranded on a rock in the middle of an ice lake surrounded by the entire undead army. Here's where I have questions. Question 1: If Ole One Eye and Top Knot McGee can make fire whenever they want, why cant they have a fire on the island? Or at least gather around one of the swords? Question 2: Can the zombies not use bows? It seems like our group would be pretty easy to take down with a couple dozen arrows. Question 3: How long are they waiting/expecting to wait? How long does it take for the raven to get to Dany? More questions to come later. Anyway Top Knot succumbs to his wounds, meaning that One Eye is now on his final life. The Hound, who was pretty useless most of this episode, continues to be useless by alerting the zombie hoard that the ice is safe to walk on. Our party engages in a seemingly hopeless battle against an untold number of assailants, hoping against hope for a dragony miracle to happen.

And it does! Dany swoops in with her brood in the last second, blasting the zombies with fire, and rocking a seriously fabulous white fur coat, to save the day! Not only is her winter wardrobe literally to die for, it also looks like she may have skinned Ghost to make it, symbolizing her new allegiance (romance?) with Jon. I also have to ask at this point why this wasn't the original plan. Dany made pretty good time getting up there, didn't have to tromp through the snow, and likely could have had Drogon pick up a zombie in his talons-  all in seemingly less than a day! But I guess that would have been much less macho than grimly marching through the snow. It looks like the tables have turned in favor of our hereos when suddenly....the Night King picks up an ice spear and takes out Viserion! Nooooo.

This was a genuinely heart-wrenching moment, as an audience we have watched Dany's dragons grow from hatchlings to giant death machines, and seeing one of them ripped out of the sky was just as painful as losing any beloved human character. Again this was a moment that delivered an emotional punch, but the journey to that payoff was not as satisfyingly authentic as it could have been. Jon, realizing the White Walkers are somehow ready for dragon combat, sacrifices himself so Drogon can take off with his payload safely. But it's an empty sacrifice, because Jon is last minute rescued by BENJEN STARK, who is part ice monster, part North of the Wall lifeguard, all Stark all the time. If you recall Benjen, or Cold Hands I guess is his nickname, previously came in for the save with his swinging lantern when he rescued Meera and Bran. But Benjen's last minute saving days are over as he is eaten by zombies in order to allow Jon to escape. Sad.

Back at the wall Dany ignores Daddy Jorah in favor of wistfully staring out over the tundra, hoping for Jon to appear. And appear he does! Jon is more than fine, especially shirtless and wrapped in furs on Dany's pleasure yacht. The two have some weird flirting where Dany reveals she can never have children, and Jon actually refers to her as 'Dany'. Good thing they are both so hot, because that banter wouldn't cut it anywhere else. Also she's his aunt. I simply cannot stress that enough.

As a final coda to this decades long episode, we see the Night Army dragging the corpse of Viserion out of the lake only to reanimate him into an ice zombie dragon! Gah! Shit is most definitely getting real, as the Night King adds some real power to his arsenal. Will zombie dragon still breathe fire? Ice? Freezing rain? Excited to find out. Next week (the season finale???) looks like it will be the zombie summit down in King's Landing. I have zero predictions for this. My only hope is that Euron will be there, I miss him. In a world of uncertainty, Euron brings the party.

Stuff I didn't get to:
Stop shipping Dany/Jon, START shipping Brienne/Beardy
They almost took Beardy from me after I SPECIFICALLY asked them not too.
Beardy learned the word dick <3
Beardy rode a dragon!!!
MVP: Beardy. I don't have to defend myself.
