Curious Conundrum (Part 12)

Prompt: You’re John Watson’s sister. One day you decide to visit your brother for lunch, only to meet the infamous Mr. Holmes…

Word Count: 882

Warnings: language, flirtation, sexual innuendos (maybe? idfk), murder/crime/case related stuff, angst, jealousy…

Notes: Beta’d by @carryonmyswansong Not only did she beta, but I literally couldn’t have written half these scenes without her help. She contributed majorly, even wrote some parts of scenes. I am forever in her debt.

Also, this starts AFTER Season 2, episode 1. I don’t follow all the episodes, but it does follow the timeline and hit some major events : )

After a late night of working, you just wanted to come home, order some food, and go to bed. But when you opened your door and turned on your light, you were startled to find a man in a beige suit sitting in your entry living room.

You gasped and backed up half a step, your arms raised to fight. But then your deduction skills kicked in: man sitting, waiting, in a suit, with no visible objects or weapons to fight -- probably means he isn't looking for a fight.

“Who are you?” you asked, eyeing him, taking a step forward.

“I’ll be the one asking the questions,” he said with a haughty voice as he stood up.

Your eyes shifted left and right, trying to gauge what was going on. “Um, okay.”

“You and Sherlock Holmes.”

“What about us?” you asked.

“You spend an awful lot of time with him.”

“Yes I do. Why is that any of your concern?” you wondered.

“I have the floor, counselor.”

Your eyes narrowed on him. Who the hell was this?

“What is your intent?”

“My intent on... hanging out with Sherlock?”

“Mmm, yes.”

“Well... We’re kind of... dating so... My intent is to date.”

“Dating?” A small, amused smile touched the man’s face. “Sherlock Holmes does not date. So tell me who you really are and why you’re constantly in communication with him.”

You shook your head. “Who are you?” you rhetorically asked as you peered at him. “An adversary of Sherlock’s wouldn’t care who I was... Not really. But… but a family member might. You’re Mycroft Holmes... Of course.” Slowly, you bobbed your head, putting the pieces together.

“Hmm so your deduction skills are as good as I’ve heard.”

“And your’s are clearly off the mark,” you noted. “If you are his brother, and you haven’t pieced together that we’re dating by now, then…” You shrugged, a smug look your face.

“Yes, well as I’m sure you’re aware, the idea of my younger sibling dating is hardly anywhere in the realm of reality for me.”

“Mmm, quite,” you agreed as you walked to your fridge to grab a drink.

“I know everything about his life. The fact of him having a girlfriend has not hit my radar as of yet.”

“So, why are you here?”

“I’ve been keeping a close watch on you for some time, Ms. Watson. I merely intended to know who my brother was spending so much time with and why.”

“Ah, over protective. He did say you worked in government.”

Mycroft nodded, his eyebrows going up to express agreement. “Yes, I do. So tell me, what do you want from my brother? Is it money?”

“No.”

“Fame?”

“No.”

“Ah, so you heard of me, maybe there is something you need expunged from a record? Something wiped clean and you thought I could do it if only you got close to him?”

“No. I’m a lawyer. I don’t have anything criminal on me, and I think you already know that since you’re somehow inside my apartment, and know my brother, and know I’m an attorney. I doubt there is little about me you don't know.”

“Keen,” he commented as he nodded once.

“So then why the third degree?”

“Because people like Sherlock don’t have romantic admirers, least of all ones who actually succeed. My brother hates sentimentality, with a burning passion. Typically if someone worms their way into his life, it’s a means to an end. A hidden agenda, usually of criminal intent. Thus I can’t imagine what you’ve done or said to get past his survival instinct of keeping to himself.”

You shrugged. “I was merely myself. I’m truthful with him, I tolerate him where most people don’t, I show him a good time, and I’m good to him.”

Mycroft stared at you for a moment. “Let’s say, for a moment, you’re telling the truth and you are in love with him.”

“Which I am,” you added confidently.

“Well, then let me make this perfectly clear. My brother does not care for people easily, but when he does, it’s a vigorous sensation that seems to take his senses over. You should know this from the way he seems to enjoy the company of your brother.”

You nodded side to side and half-shrugged.

“Which means, if this is true, and he does feel something for you, then you shall do your best not to hurt him.”

“Mycroft, I would never hurt him. It’s not my intention to. I love Sherlock, more than I’ve ever loved anyone I’ve ever been with. I would never do that.”

“Good. Because if you do, so help me, I can make you wish you never stepped foot onto Baker Street. I can make your life utter hell if you have any malintent on my brother or our family. You probably have figured out by now I have the power to do it, as well. Do I make myself perfectly clear?”

Your blood ran cold as you looked at him.

“Yes,” you quietly answered.

“Excellent. Then I shall leave you to your evening. Tell Sherlock I said hello.” With that, he breezed past you and left, making you feel as if you could breathe again. That man had the cool confidence unlike any you’d ever seen before.
