So over on patreon Trevor asked for my take on the Addams Family and I grew up LOVING the Addams family movies so here we are. Instead of doing a straight up style interpretation, I decided to do a full on design challenge, using the characters as bases to make a black southern gothic Addams au. I actually drew the kids first, using the character bases of Wednesday and Pugsley to create some delightful kiddos I'm calling Sunday and Blanche. I of course then redesigned Gomez and Morticia into Carlisle and Mortesha.

The Addams have a very specific high aristocratic goth aesthetic (they've got a butler and nobody really works among other things) so in this re-imagining I wanted to go with vibes that run a little more middle class/upper middle class. I thought it would be interesting to think about what would be considered weird and off-putting in an entirely different culture, and how being a big ol' goth is way less controversial than it used to be.

I tried to keep this short (HAHAHAHAHAHA) so I didn't spin off into an essay about villain coded families, black people in the horror genre, and normalcy as it pertains to social survival, but just...bits of that are in these designs and lore. Keep that in mind.

Also I made the kids twins because they've flip flopped in age so much in different media and also twins run in my family (i'm the daughter of one). And let's face it, I'm pulling a lot of their southern gothic traits from living as a southern goth so *shrug*.

The Parents

From the moment he saw her he knew that there was a 50/50 chance of him either never making it out of that swamp alive or marrying the figure that was creeping out from under the distant willow tree in a black cocktail dress. The third time she found him trussed up in one of her traps, he complimented her rope work and asked if she'd like to go out sometime after his head wound stopped bleeding.

Or while it was still bleeding.

If she was into that.

Some kids and a mysteriously burnt down Piggly Wiggly later, their love is still as strong and inescapable as a bear trap in a sink hole.

Carlisle Guillermo (now Addams through marriage but I wanted to give him two first names for a name since Gomez has two last names) makes a vaguely described living practicing ‘law’ around town. A loophole king, people come to him from miles around with contracts signed in blood, fights over chunks of hair buried in their rivals’ yard, dehydrated primate hands, memories that seemed like dreams until the evidence of their happenings became too real, and other regular Legal Items asking for counsel which he is all too happy to give. For a price. Sometimes that price is a homemade pie and sometimes it’s a million dollars, depends on who you are. Whatever you’re asked to pay it’s worth that price, and if you try to scam him out of work or he just plain doesn’t like you? Well. He knows how to twist a contract better than anything at the crossroads.

And he always gets his due.

He doesn’t just serve the local (living)humans though, there are many things that need proper legal representation in this day and age. You wouldn’t believe how many city councils try to build on sacred burial grounds even after he lets them know that his ghostly clients are totally gonna haunt the FUCK out of the ensuing shitty condos and curse their families for all eternity. At least 50% of his energy goes towards dealing with real estate bullshit.

Carl is an excitable and good natured(?) man who loves his family, cigars, dancing, and his many knife-based hobbies. People find him very charming once they get past the feeling that they’re talking to a sultry gator badly disguising itself as a human. I didn’t put a ton of deep thought into designing him, mostly I wanted to make a middle aged dude who looked like he would have been voted ‘most likely to smooch the literal devil’ in high school. Tbh he probably has, but no demonic ex’s can compare to his lovely wife~

Mortesha Addams(her name was already perfect so I just tweaked it)is a woman of many talents. A self proclaimed homemaker, she prides herself on a greenhouse full of Concerning Foliage, a beautiful wasp apiary, and a coop full of what are probably chickens that she keeps for what are probably eggs. She’s also an avid creator of the outsider art that can be seen around the estate. She has taken on the family business of selling her homemade goods in a little stall by the road just outside the swamp with her mom, and makes pretty good money doing so. A surprising amount of poison gets bought in quaint southern towns.

Speaking of poison, people who come out to the edge of the swamp to buy it are usually carrying a lot of secrets around, and Mortesha knows most of them. It’s not like she pries the truth out of people, it just so happens that many nervous hellos eventually turn into the tragic backstory power hour if she’s alone with a client for long enough. She supposes that’s just how people are. Despite the fact that the Addams are very active in the community (whether the community likes it or not) she especially, as a direct descendant of the first Addams matriarch, is seen as…Well not an outsider because the community feels A Certain Way about outsiders and despite it all the Addams are their people, but maybe something like an exception. They feel like whatever weirdness they’re hiding can’t be weirder than any given Addams, so they get a little loose with their words.

This is amusing to her, since Addams’ don’t naturally keep the kind dramatic secrets that their surface level prim and proper neighbors do. It’s much more fun to openly talk about those things.

Do they have a sadly decrepit yet terrifying grandma up in the attic? Yeah, like three. They got a tv, all the creepy porcelain dolls they could want, and they’re close to family. Where do you keep your gram-grams?

Any bodies buried on the property? Yeah some, but most are thrown to the gators.

Any creeping through the balmy summer night with ill intentions? Yeah dude, everyone loves a nice family stroll.

What about dangerous forbidden love? If an adult Addams isn’t incorporeal then they’re either queer or in a torrid romance with some person/thing mysteriously drawn to that awful swamp. Sometimes both at the same time. Most times actually.

Mortesha would know.

The current head of the Addams family is just as outgoing as her husband but a lot quieter and harder to read. She never really seems to get mad about much and always has a genteel smile for everyone whether they deserve it or not. A seven foot tall human shaped “Oh, bless your heart”. A perfectly composed Lady even when she’s, oh I dunno, burning down a Piggly Wiggly. You know. A regular southern mom. Chat her up at the hair salon for 50% off a jar of wasp honey with your next purchase of a mysterious but foreboding packet of herbs.

Designing her was pretty easy because I just drew a lankier Grace Jones and called it a day. I had some problems with her outfit simply because if we were going HARD southern gothic then she’d probably be wearing a white/cream dress with a fuller skirt but I thought keeping the silhouette and the black was more important. She’s supposed to be an anti southern gothic southern gothic character anyway. A woman who looks like she has a million secrets who is actually the most open person you could meet. For better or worse. The red hair came from a coloring error that I really ended up liking (my mom had red hair her whole childhood that only darkened up in high school so I can buy that an Addams can be naturally fire engine red) and the veil was to get more of that classic Morticia silhouette in there.

The Children

Sunday and Blanche are the twin children of Carlisle and Mortesha Addams. Some say the Addams clan got their cursed homestead when a wealthy local businessman made a deal with the devil and lost, leaving his grand mansion to his least favorite maid and cutting his losses once he realized that the swamp would do everything it could to drag the house into the water and take what was owed with its horrible curse. Others say that the family has just always squatted there and no one really cares because man, fuck that particular swamp. Have you been in there? Absolute horror show.

Anyway.

Blanche is the more outgoing sibling and quite the engineer/mad scientist in the making. He started going grey at 2 weeks old but considering he was also rocking some extra fingers, toes, and a tiny tail (he takes after his dad), his parents just put it on the 'not life threatening' pile and decided not to worry about it. He's the kind of smart that teachers find utterly infuriating, less a dog eagerly learning and obeying commands and more a hyena who keeps teaching itself how to pick locks. He has a few friends in his school's robotics club (which they honestly allowed him to make so the school could contain his... creations) but mostly hangs out with his sister exploring the swamp. They find all sorts of neat things in there! wedding rings, suspiciously lumpy garbage bags, cloaked cultists who can't read private property signs, it's an adventure every day!

Blanche is all about experimentation with his creations, his look, and his tether to this mortal coil. Is lipstick a cool thing to try? Let's find out. Can he get out of a strait jacket fast enough after being pushed into the depths of the swamp by his sister? let's find out. He's not dead yet and confused local doctors can attest to the fact that he's rarely attained more than a bad bruise so he's pretty set on continuing to kiss rattlesnakes on their cute little heads and have his sister practice her knife throwing at him until that fact changes.

Blanche is very much a country goth. Cowboy boots (customized by his mom), knife, and lighter are daily accessories. He likes to wear the crusty swamp jewelry they find (the rust adds a splash of color!) and despite appearances he does try to keep himself neat. He's just got natural Grunge Colors and a tendency to wear clothes he likes until they fall apart. Pugsley always seemed the most modernly styled to me (which might just be because little boys clothes have been the same for a long time) so I wanted Blanche to be the most purposely fashionable Addams. Everyone else is goth by nature, but he's the only one truly familiar with goth as an alternative fashion.

I got really into designing Blanche because honestly, I find Pugsley to be the most boring member of the family. And he was hard to design! I had to mess with his vibe a lot to get him looking how I wanted. I know he's supposed to evoke an " 'evil' little boy next door who's parents never reign him in", but that's just goth Dennis The Menace. I's 2020. We can at least go queer goth Calvin.

Sunday was much easier to design. Wednesday was my favorite as a child (of course) and I really wanted to keep the spirit of her look while adding things like billowy sleeves (it gets HOT down here), big poofy twists instead of braids, and a nice tie. She's a professional after all, been running the local pet cemetery since she was 6 and the previous groundskeeper met with an unfortunate accident after telling her that tarantulas don't have souls. Her specialty is creating beautiful naturalistic animal funerals similar to those that Maquenda (https://linktr.ee/artofmaquenda) makes, and she takes pride in creating miniature dioramas of her subjects after each burial which she uses as a kind of 3D catalog for future clients.

She really wants to try out her skills on humans one day. Well. Publicly try out her skills. Lotta random bodies float into the swamp. None of them have turned down her requests for diorama models so far. Most seem downright flattered. Plus, she usually figures out which graveyard/crime scene they floated over from and gets her parents to give them a lift back. She'll even help enact terrifying revenge from beyond the grave on whoever put them there if she's not, y'know, busy.

Besides arts, crafts, and pet based funerary arrangements, Sunday is an avid lover of archery (any ranged weapon really), books where little fantasy adventure animals die dramatic deaths, and history. She is That Kid who eagerly raises her hand when asked who Christopher Columbus was and ends up being sent out of class after 15 minutes for making 'a scene'. Her favorite party trick is just picking an item in the room and talking about how it relates to either some obscure historical figure with a buck wild life or a horrible disaster. At least one charity pancake breakfast ended with children in tears after her vivid description of the Great Molasses Flood of 1919.

Social-wise, while Wednesday is the girl that people ask to smile because they think she'd, "look so pretty", Sunday is rarely asked anything at all. People just kind of assume from her quiet nature (in between horrible history facts) that she's angry all the time and that she hates everyone. This is untrue. She hates some people but she's ambivalent to most everyone else and even downright friendly if you bother to talk to her like a person instead of a terrifying cryptid. Like, she IS a terrifying cryptid but she's also a little girl.

That’s about it for now. One day I might do the other family members but for now I’m happy with the four I’ve redesigned. Making an au! Lurch in a family that doesn’t do butlers could be interesting. Over on patreon I put forth that he could just be Motesha’s mute little brother (similar bone structure) but Amy Crook had the nice idea of quote: “ a mysterious "cousin" that "helps around the house" whose origins are both long in the past and faintly unsettling. He's good for lifting heavy things, like that tank of propane you're about to throw into the burning Piggly Wiggly... “ which i now consider canon. Who's kid is he? How old is he? Not important. Anyone willing to commit arson with you is family.

Annnnyway. This challenge was a lot of fun! I love indulging in AU’s.

Why I dislike Marinette

It may shock anyone reading this, especially knowing why people usually dislike Marinette, but my reasons actually aren’t for her actions in canon. Well, of course I take issue with what Marinette does. My issues are more with the creators of the show and her more toxic stans. The issue I have with Marinette is the fact that her actions are usually framed as just, or okay when they should be called out to teach a lesson to people watching. We can argue about favourites, but when Lila lies and she’s punished by LB, and when Marinette lies or does even worse things, it’s clear there’s a bias in favor of Marinette. Marinette has flaws... But the show rarely calls them out as flaws. LB is bossy and CN is just a sidekick? Well the show compliments that by making her a GUARDIAN, able to dispense Miraculouses at will, and CN is having less of a spotlight. Is Marinette an uninteresting character? Spruce her up by making all of Adrien’s drama about HER instead! LB needs to look dependable and smart? In AntiBug, even though Chat is in the top of his class of Fencers, being taught by the best Fencer in all of Paris, he gets bested by Chloe. CHLOE, you know, the girl that’s so clumsy she incapacitated herself in Lady Wifi when she got tangled up in her own Yoyo? Yep, Chat’s such a doof that he’s useless without LB at his side to steer him like a guard dog.

I hear people say that the creators hate Marinette, or love Adrien when that’s just straight up false, Adrien goes through retcons and character assassinations. Hell, the whole Lukanette side romance started out because Gabriel Agreste, Adriens ABUSIVE father prevented him from going, and what does Marinette do? Oh, that’s right, she makes it about HER, what’s her reward for valiantly surviving the next 5 minutes moaning about how “‘tis not to be after all!”? She gets Luka, she gets another option immediately. None of this is considered a flaw of hers, her selfishness rarely gets called out as such and when it does, it’s even rarer that the lesson ACTUALLY sticks with Marinette. She’s uninteresting, does bad things and she’s the main character, not Adrien, a deep complex character that could go through a whole bunch of character arcs and personal growth, the kid that’s the SON of the main villain, as if that’s not bad enough, his “destined” soulmate is Marinette, a selfish girl that sabotages her love rivals chances, absolutely atomizes his personal boundaries like it’s going out of style, and as LB, keeps him in the dark, inadvertently hurting him, in spite of all of this, he must end up with her, hell, Chat Blanc features that Retcon I mentioned earlier, where Adrien, despite knowing LB committed an actual criminal offense still loves her, and dates Marinette, a girl he’s never ONCE considered dating before because the show writers clearly are obsessed with the ship, and favor LB/Marinette.

I think with all these examples, it’s clear the show favors Marinette to an absurd degree, and will happily sacrifice Adrien so he can be a good little doggie.

Now onto the fandom and how it holds Marinette on a pedestal. Marinette’s actions are often excused “She’s a teen,” “she’s under a lot of stress,” “I used to do that too!” (That one is very concerning when it comes to the stalking tbh). They’ve got so many excuses for the things she does. Rarely can this part of the fandom admit that the girl they like the most has flaws she needs to work on. What happens when they see Chat flirting with LB or he destroys an inanimate object in a fit of rage at being sidelined repeatedly? “What an incel neck-beard nice guy!” “He should get his Miraculous taken away” “He clearly doesn’t care about Paris!” “#Marinette Deserves Better”

Can you blame us when we’re jaded on criticism directed at Adrien? Most of the time it’s worded like we’re all sexist pigs and Adrien is the worst character in the show, why would ANYONE want to listen to what some of you have to say?! Even if it’s valid at it’s core, the dress-up of the message makes it hazardous to deal with and it only makes people hate the message because some of y’all can’t act like respectable people when you deliver it!

Adrien is treated like shit by both the show creators and the fans. What’s the point in swiming in the Adrien hate? Lord knows ya’ll can pump out enough to last until the heat death of the universe so it’s not like you need us to contribute.

So yeah, that’s why I hate Marinette, the show makes her insufferable and only a small subset of fans will actually acknowledge how terrible she is, the rest will ignore it or turn it into a sexism issue where it doesn’t even exist, and it makes Marinette more terrible by proxy.

They really went there huh

/rp (good lord I rly hyperfixated on this essay huh)

torture tw, abuse tw, manipulation tw, gaslighting tw

So the Dream SMP built a character, once maybe morally gray, who slipped straight into villany with little to no desire to change, and willing to cause a LOT of pain to get his way. Despite this, he doesn’t question what he does enough to stop, justifying his actions with a good intent that doesn’t come close to justifying what he’s done.

C!Dream is unremorseful of what he’s done, he’s quite literally manipulated and gaslit (like actually, not in the way everyone keeps throwing the word around) c!Tommy, almost drove him to take his last life- like, jesus christ. That’s not even to mention blowing up L’Manburg three times, encouraging c!Wilbur, wanting the discs JUST to have power over c!Tommy, etc.

SO, he gets thrown in a box for it so he doesn’t hurt anybody anymore, making his own hubris his downfall (narrative consequence my beloved). This leads us to a good finale - the bad guy, the person who’s caused objectively the most pain and destruction, is now unable to do so anymore, taken down by the person whom he tried to weaken. It is also revealed he was planning on blackmailing and threatening pretty much everyone, but now everyone gets their stuff back.

Good, right?

Especially for the finale, yeah! The message of the finale is good, c!Tommy manages to escape his abuser with nothing more but his clothes on his back and fights his way back to c!Tubbo and his home.

He doesn’t let his trauma (which is still very present!) let him become a terrible person (arguably the way that c!Dream DID let his frustrations make him a terrible person, c!Tommy, despite bearing quite a heavy weight, recognizes when he begins to turn that way and actively works against it).

It shows that while alone, c!Tubbo and c!Tommy were outfought by Dream, but because c!Tommy went the length to ask for help (which he didn’t even really seem to be relying on actually showing up), he wins! It truly is a good message.

C!Tommy escapes his abuser and manipulator, refuses and fights his trauma to not become someone he doesn’t want to be, and defeats his abuser by asking for help and receiving it, even more than he thought he’d get. He refuses to play c!Dream’s “game”, refuses till the very last moment to let c!Tubbo die, to surrender and say goodbye to him.

So, great! Good finale! C!Dream The Villain is boxed like a fish in a prison of, quite literally, his own making. It sent a good message to people. C!Tommy wasn’t expected to forgive him and did, in fact, axe him down twice, causing c!Dream to finally fall from his high horse.

Most media would stop at this point, say the villain is now defeated and never show them again, or have them come back another one or two seasons later, escaped and seemingly unharmed and worse than ever.

Alternatively, there’s a throwaway line, (or, in good media, a genuine, reasonable backstory, complete with remorse and bad role models and complicated situations), that allows the villain to be redeemed.

In GOOD redemption arcs (See: Zuko from avatar tbh), the villain was already never quite as heartless, or stressed their good intent, or felt remorse for what they felt they “had to do”. Then, ideally, the villain takes a looooong time adjusting their habits, regretting their actions and changing until they’re considered redeemed.

Not on the Dream SMP, though.

They don’t stop at c!Dream’s defeat.

He doesn’t dissapear off-screen and is never spoken of again. His life continues on, everyone’s does, just like it would in reality. He doesn’t magically want to become a better person, far from it. So no redemption. But he doesn’t dissapear, either.

They go on to, slowly, stress how awful the conditions in Pandora’s Vault are. c!Bad says c!Dream should be imprisoned, but at least at slightly better conditions. We’re in very VERY morally gray territorry here. Nobody says c!Dream is a good person, of course not, but even c!Bad - who knows Dream was planning on keeping c!Skeppy in a cage to control him with - goes, “yeah, he should stay boxed, but does he really need to like... suffer suffer?”

Still, c!Dream seems to be kindof inconsistent in his behavior. Is he faking his pain? Is he not? His actions don’t fully make sense for either take. He acts differently to each person, but at the same time some things he does don’t make sense if he were just fishing for pity.

Then c!Sam admits to trying (and thinking he succeeded) to “break Dream’s will”, to quite literally starving him for weeks.

Okay, so now we’re a step further. C!Dream is now suffering even more, although already boxed and unable to hurt anyone. Pandora’s Vault is one thing, but now c!Sam just seems to be out for revenge and nothing more. Instead of spending his time with c!Tommy, he spends his time pickaxing(?) c!Dream.

C!Sam isn’t an angel, and we should all know that by now. He does what he thinks is right, but he’s deeper than that, all characters on the DSMP are.

He cares deeply for the Badlands, and would always choose them above anybody else. He’s a capitalist. He built the prison because it would benefit the Badlands resource-wise, despite knowing Dream would probably use it on his enemies, and it was no secret that ALL members of L’Manburg, especially c!Tommy, are his enemies. C!Sam, undoubtedly, knew that. He still built it.

Arguably, he didn’t know about c!Dream’s attachment obsession at the time, but the point still stands.

People have already latched onto the untold story happening between c!Dream and c!Sam, and frankly, we barely know enough about it. Does c!Sam torture him regularly? Do they talk? Does c!Dream try to verbally fight back? CAN he fight back? We don’t know! We’ve gotten proof for both, between c!Sam saying that c!Dream is terrifying even in prison and c!Dream going silent to go on strike. We don’t have enough of an idea how bad or how good it truly is.

So the people who prefer to humanize c!Dream and explore morality imagine c!Sam to downright torture him, people that prefer to see c!Dream as nothing but evil due to his actions imagine prison on the DSMP to not be equivalent to real life prison, and thus nowhere near as torturous as people are making it out to be.

Now all that is thrown out the window as c!Quackity quite literally tortures him.

So now the internet is faced with a question that, judging by some of the impulsive reactions *cough cough* celebrating torture *cough*, it didn’t turn out to be ready for.

Tell me.

How far do we go?

C!Dream hurt a LOT of people. He did a lot of things that caused irreparable damage. Now what? Do we torture him forever? Why? Because he deserves it? How do we determine that without comparing one kind of pain to another?

It’s custom and kindof generally respectful not to compare people’s pain too accurately, because different things vary greatly in severity depending on the person that experiences them.

At what point do we say he’s suffered enough without comparing exile to the prison?

And if we DO compare, does that even make the question easier to answer?

And if he’s never suffered enough ever, killing them would be a mercy...

At what point has a person done enough damage that they “deserve” to die? What if someone only did half of the things c!Dream did. But if c!Dream gets infinite punishment, and half of infinity is still infinity, do they ALSO deserve endless suffering?

Do you think every person that did something you can’t emphasize with deserves to suffer for eternity and die?

I’m not saying we SHOULD emphasize with c!Dream. He did things we cannot justify, that NOTHING can justify. He did things that were, by their nature, unjustified.

I’m also not saying anybody should forgive him. I think it’s a GOOD thing that c!Tommy doesn’t want nor is narratively pushed to forgive c!Dream.

But c!Dream doesn’t need c!Tommy’s forgiveness to be... a person.

There’s a saying that I’m sure you know, that goes “I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.”, because there’s things you wouldn’t want any human being to experience. Not because you like them, not cause you think they’re right, but because they’re human.

And perhaps this is my personal opinion, but I don’t think c!Dream being a bad person justifies dehumanizing him, because then we get into an area where someone needs to meet criteria just to be human.

I met someone once, whom, because of outside circumstances I knew I probably wouldn’t meet again. We’d been getting along just fine for people who just met, and were both getting into an interesting discussion about morality. They kept insisting upon something I kept refuting, so they said they needed to get something off their chest.

They proceeded to tell me that they had, years ago, while a teen, manipulated someone in a relationship, pushed boundaries and tried to convince them to do things they didn’t really want to do to get what they wanted.

They cried, while telling me, too terrified to tell anybody they know, terrified nobody would ever speak to them again, insanely regretful of their actions. They didn’t know whether to go back and apologize or just stay as far away as humanly possible, didn’t know which one the right thing to do is.

It had been years, by then, and I talked them through it. I said that what they did was bad, and there’s no going around that. But I also said what I saw, which is someone who would never do something like that ever again. I saw a human being. Someone who regrets a mistake they did and now, after enough time has passed, would do anything to make it undone.

Someone who is too terrified to be close to anybody in fear that they would do it again. I don’t remember if they already went to therapy or not, but it was definitly on the table, or in the near future.

They asked me how I could possibly even keep talking to them after they told me all that. They implied they felt like some kind of monster despite literally chocking back tears, firmly convinced they don’t deserve to be close to anybody in their life ever again.

I never swerved from the fact that what they did was wrong, and harmful. But I also told them they’re human. The universe isn’t keeping score. They want to be a better person now, and they were never going to learn how if they never let themselves be close to anybody.

I told them to seek therapy, and to slowly, carefully, try. Assured them that the fact that they regret it so strongly will at least help them in not falling back into the same pattern, and if they do, they can learn to recognize that.

They thanked me after the conversation, genuinely, especially for the fact that I didn’t sugarcoat what happened, because I know otherwise it would’ve felt like I was lying, like I was just sparing their feelings. I wasn’t. I was thinking about how to make sure they get to live without hurting anybody.

As per the circumstances, we didn’t speak again after that, which we knew basicly from the very start.

I still think about that conversation a lot.

Do you think they should’ve been locked up for life after it happened, instead?

Do you think this real human being, that I spoke to, that took years to realize their mistake - and never would have realized it if they hadn’t had the time to, if they’d been killed right afterwards - deserves to suffer forever?

Let me tell you something, from someone who’s been in more than one abusive situation: People that hurt you are human.

That doesn’t mean you have to forgive them. That doesn’t mean you have to like them. That doesn’t mean you have to make an effort to understand them. That doesn’t mean you need to go anywhere near them ever again.

You can hate them. You can be angry at them. You can (and should) go as far away from them as possible, and/or defend yourself.

But that doesn’t mean you have to dehumanize them.

You’re allowed to hate and dislike people that are human, because you’re human, especially if they hurt you. That’s how life is.

And to go back to my original point - c!Quackity torturing c!Dream is not something that should be celebrated.

There’s a difference between necessary measures (locking c!Dream up so he doesn’t hurt anyone), and torturing people for fun.

It’s not right. It’s never going to be right, and do not justify literal torture on human beings, and do not make someone lower-than-human to justify torturing them.

Taking revenge on someone for what they did tenfold is romanticized, I know, but I promise you it’s not actually as cool as it sounds.

I read the whole original script for Little Women 2019 and you're so right. It is so much better, so much more true to the book. What do you think happened there?

Hi! I know right!

First, it seems like Greta never liked Bhaer, at least that’s what she kept repeating. He just didn’t fit in her idea of Jo and LW. But for the sake of adapting LW she had to put him into the script. I think there was some level of understanding of what Bhaer meant for Jo, though. It’s so weird.

Actually, the final script is very contradictory. And we see it in the film. First there is that lovely scene where Jo and Fritz dance and hug with lovely music and golden lighting. But then, the filter turns blue and Bhaer becomes a villain. Not even in her movie did I understood what did he do wrong. Was he brutally honest? Yes! But wasn’t Jo the one who say she liked strong words that mean something?

Gerwig also had Oscars aspirations.

She had already been close to be nominated for Lady Bird and a lot of people felt she was snubbed.

So, how do you not let that happen again? You make noise. You take a deeply beloved and popular story and transform it to fit the 21st century “feminist” agenda. You know many people don’t like the ending, so they won’t be angry for changing it. You spent the entire press tour talking about how only you understood Jo and LMA, how it is only in your movie that Jo gets the ending Alcott wanted, how you free Jo from that horrible old, ugly German man who only cut her wings. She even altered one of Jo’s dream of opening a school FOR BOYS and make it a school for girls. Again, she did this to fit her “feminist” agenda, cause it wouldn’t be feminist to open a school for boys, right? Who cares if Jo never really had any girl-friends, made fun of girly manners, and even in the sequels she keeps preferring boys over girls. Not to mention she literally says she likes “manly men”.

I swear I felt at some point she believed to be LMA reincarnated.

Plus, you put some of those thoughts into Amy’s character and get praised for making the character “likeable”, even if you alter important facts about her and made her Laurie’s toy.

She could have made noise by casting a brown skinned actor for Laurie and addressing the immigration and racist issues in the Victorian era. She could have addressed more adult themes, but that risked box office numbers.

Someone else pointed this out already, but Gerwig really spent most of the movie saying women don’t need men. Yet in the last 10 minutes, the story becomes a conflict between two sisters over a man! And not even a great man. Laurie has no growth in this movie.

Again, it’s so contradictory. First Jo insists she doesn’t love Laurie in a romantic way, prompting people to say she’s lesbian or asexual/aromantic. But then when she tears apart the letter, the script says she’s saying goodbye to her “childhood love”. WTF! And let’s not forget she cast Timothée Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, who people already ship.

TBH, most of these problems were already there in the first draft. But it was still better.

You gotta give it to her, it worked like magic.

The movie did pretty well at the box office. And, people were furious that she didn’t get nominated. They were shouting “fuck you” at the Golden Globes. Even Natalie Portman included her in her cape with all the female directors that weren’t nominated. But she did got one for the script. And because the Academy knew people would get even angrier if she went home empty handed, they gave her Costume Design (not deserving!). When you compare this movie with the rest of the nominees, it had absolutely no chance. It was the weakest movie.

Additionally, she got the Barbie movie as a director!

The praise from the cast was so over the top. Even before realizing how bad this movie was, I thought it was way too much. Lady Bird is not that much of a revelation and many thought it was just another white feminist story.

bad buddy ep 12 (thoughts)

first things first, I AM NEVER GONNA ASSUME ANYTHING EVER AGAIN.

me, this ep: we've been tricked, we've been backstabbed and we've been quite possibly, bamboozled.

i still cannot believe how much they made me bawl after ep 11. i was broken for a WHOLE WEEK...absolutely convinced they’d broken up, but apparently my gut can’t be trusted WHATSOEVER, and they fooled me completely. if there ever was a start to my villain origin story, it’s this right here 😭 fake break up theorists out there, how does it feel to have such a big brain?? wish i could relate!!

but paint that clown makeup all over me bc i’ll take it if it means that pat and pran are happy (and god, i’m just so glad that they’re happy...this is the only outcome i have ever wanted for them bc they deserve it all after everything they’ve been through).

if you read my last ep 11 post, i guess most of it is all for nothing now, but i still stand by how much i loved that ep!! even if i ended up being wrong about most things 😅 i guess the lesson i’ve really learnt here is not to jump to conclusions. i SHOULD have known better considering bad buddy has been surprising me at every turn, yet i still fell for it, and that’s on me. i also can’t deny that i was swayed by all the surrounding discourse as well.

and tbh i don’t think anyone should feel like too much of a fool for falling for the break up trap bc the ep was def purposefully crafted to make us feel like something was ‘off’...that bittersweetness we felt wasn’t fake. the angst was still intentional. even if pat and pran didn’t ACTUALLY end up breaking up, the uncertainty they were feeling...and knowing that going home meant having to confront the reality of their relationship, was still very real. we obviously got a skimmed over version of what they went through over the last four years, but they didn’t know at the time how everything was going to pan out. and even though they ended up staying together, there’s still that sense of sadness that, at the time, they were never going to reconcile everything completely with their parents. so all those tears we cried weren’t for nothing bc they still ended up having to lose something in order to stay together. they still weren’t able to be as open about their relationship as the two of them wanted.

in my last post, i had a few misgivings about the fake break up theory, but i think this ep did a good job of addressing those issues. firstly, pran telling his friends about their break up was one of the reasons i was convinced about their break up (that damn preview!!)...but finding out that wai knew it was a lie, and it WAS a fake out all along, clears that one up for me bc i knew that pran wouldn’t have lied to wai again after their last fight...and he didn’t.

secondly, i thought that their parents would be mad if they hid things again, but in the end, their parents weren’t as heartless as i thought they were going to be (and that’s one thing i’m super grateful about...things aren’t exactly peachy, and we don’t know if they ever will be, but their children’s happiness is more important to them than the feud between them...so if they have to look the other way for now, they’ll look the other way).

thirdly, i thought that hiding their relationship would just mean a rehash of ep 7 again, but that obviously wasn’t the case at all. the narrative i was expecting was one that i’d seen time and time again (break up, time skip, reunion). it was all i had to go off, and i’m genuinely so glad that bad buddy changed my perception on this. honestly, the time skip helped this along a lot since they didn’t really focus on the hiding this time (they only showed some brief scenes of this). and by the time they’d bided their time and graduated from uni, things became a lot easier for them. although they were still technically hiding their relationship, they didn’t have to hide it in the same way they’d had to back in uni. not to mention, over the years, it seemed to have become more of an open secret than anything else. there were times they tried harder to hide it (eg. high school reunion), but for the most part, the hiding became a lot less subtle overall. like they were becoming progressively less afraid of getting caught. in the end, they’re still able to go out and have fun with their close friends, while keeping it a secret from their parents (who know about them already...so it’s not like they were even that stealthy on that front anyway).

and lastly, the emotional impact still landed pretty deeply (since a lot of us thought they’d broken up at the beginning), only it threw us off balance instead, and then rewarded us with the fluffiest ep of them all. i have never known what to expect with this show, and the fact that it did THAT at the end of ep 11, and then turned around and pulled a “just kidding” on us (the fact that that’s basically been p’aof’s catchphrase on soonvijarn...how did i not REALISE)...that was the real genius in the end. it wasn’t how they reframed the ep 11 ending with a different context, or the subtleness of the (non) break up, but it was how they’d misdirected us the whole time instead. they pulled one over on us, and for the majority of us, they succeeded. we, the audience, were just like everyone else in pat and pran’s life (aside from wai, korn, ink and paa). we were tricked by them in the same way, and it’s actually kind of brilliant.

it turned out ep 11 wasn’t cursed at all, but they played us on our assumptions that it would be. and in doing that, it made me cry more than any of the cursed ep 11′s i’ve ever seen. so many of us thought it was a breakup bc it’s the kind of narrative that we’re used to and they knew that, so they played on our expectations…and then turned around and spun the narrative an entirely different way instead. i thought the plot twist was at the end of ep 11, but the REAL plot twist was what we got in ep 12 all along…and the most of us didn’t see it coming at all. it rewrote everything i thought i knew. i’m constantly praising bad buddy for being different from so many other dramas that i didn’t even think that it would set itself apart in this way too.

one of the mock trailer taglines said it best: “their mission is to fool the world”. and fool the world they did. they basically told us how this was going to go from the very start.

i’m predisposed to think that everything leans more angsty than it actually does, so when we STARTED OFF with the four years later time skip, i was worried ngl.

but pat waking up with only one alarm showed me how much he’s grown up!! such a contrast from ep 2 when he kept snoozing it 😂 pran’s influence :’) wish i could grow up and learn this trait too so i don’t have to set four alarms in order to wake up every morning...

pat looking at his toothbrush and reminiscing back to that time when pran put toothpaste on it for him bc he was trying to make it up to him...when i watched this for the first time, i was SO SAD. rewatching it now, i just feel scammed haha.

it’s so cute to me that after all these years, pran still has that habit of smirking at himself in the mirror after he’s done washing up. he’s so adorable. even now as a hotshot architect in singapore.

when i was first watching this, i do remember thinking that pran didn’t seem that sad considering they broke up?? which prob should have been my first clue...but i was just chalking that up to him thinking about their time fondly (and NOT the fact that they were likely sending flirty texts to one another the whole time i was feeling sad omg).

it’s always so amusing to me how, to make everyone look older, they just style their hair up so you can see their foreheads now 😂

okay, pat reminiscing back to all his old memories with pran still kind of makes me sad even now bc, even though they’re together, long distance relationships are tough :( it’s not a break up, but not being able to be with the person that you love (and esp when you’re as deeply in love with one another as pat and pran are)...that hurts. and everything really does remind you of them.

not how the one time i expect waikorn to happen, they don’t. but i’m actually fine with that. i love that they ended up being good friends (and buying the bar together). everyone’s grown up so much since the start of this show ;;; it’s only been a couple years since they graduated, but it feels like it’s been ten years.

at the time, i genuinely thought they were just being considerate of pat’s feelings by not bringing pran up at this point...and the more i think about it now, the funnier it gets tbh.

no more door hanger on pran’s old dorm door :(((((((( that hit me hard. i can’t believe how attached they made me to that thing (and all of pran’s smiley faces).

inkpaa are glowing this whole ep!!!!!! people in love always look different, and i love seeing my fave girls still going strong :’) also, i love seeing paa boss pat around now too. after all the laundry she did for him back then, it’s what she deserves!!

why are like 80% of the photos on the reunion noticeboard just of pat and pran though...did ink take them all 😂

something i really appreciate about this ep is all the little references they made to the mock trailer. i have SUCH fondness for that trailer bc it shook me to my core when gmmtv first announced that ohm and nanon were doing bad buddy together. the references feel a little bit like a tribute to it. like they’re ending bad buddy the way they started it, and i love that so much.

like how pat’s friend mentions that pat used to put his boogers in his mouth (which is what pat did to korn in the mock trailer haha). although they changed a lot of it up (eg. most of the high school setting in general, and korn being his uni friend instead), they still retained bits and pieces of that trailer in the drama itself.

I’M STILL NOT OVER HOW MUCH THEY PLAYED US ALL DURING THE REUNION. i’m telling you pat and pran 1000% have a roleplay kink and should have majored in performing arts fr!!!!! they had me feeling so miserable with all their sad gazing at one another (esp pat!! pran looked more fond than anything), and then the way they kept ALMOST talking to one another, but not actually talking...only to find out that it was all a ruse and that pat prob only looked more sad than pran bc pran told him he wasn’t staying over at his place that night...that, and the airport mix up...they’re so dramatic 😭

i can’t believe how i was talking about how drama free they both were in my last post, and then they pulled this on me. though i guess, it’s fake drama so it doesn’t really count...

tbh when you rewatch this, it really does look like pran just wants to jump pat’s bones during the whole reunion...so knowing that he caves and goes to pat’s place after this anyway puts all those longing looks into context. i can’t believe they almost made me CRY during this part...and it was essentially just the two of them roleplaying and being horny...i hate it here.

oh god, the high school flashback scenes!!!!!!!! i’ve mentioned time and time again how much i adore their high school scenes. there’s such an innocence to them. if we don’t get a sequel for this drama, i’d honestly love a prequel. i’d love to know more about their relationship in high school, and how they went from annoying one another (or lbr, pat annoying pran) to becoming ‘sort of’ friends. pat making fun of pran on the guitar SCREAMS boy annoying his crush bc he likes him (but doesn’t quite know it yet).

pat was behaving like this when people were around, but then being secretly nice and cutting guitar picks from his own ID card for pran when they were alone...i’d fall in love too, pran 😭

they didn’t get to finish performing 'just friends?’ together the first time, but they finally get to finish it together now :’) i love that for them. it’s the closure i needed for their high school days.

they had me so frustrated when they were leaving the reunion and kept glancing at one another, but not actually talking. i was so stressed!!!!! when pran knocked on the door, i had a feeling it was him, but then the big reveal happened and i experienced every single emotion i’ve ever felt in my life all at once. you don’t understand how i SCREAMED.

most overwhelming of all though, was the pure happiness and relief i felt at seeing the two of them still together. i was completely and utterly fooled, BUT this is the one time that i’ve never been more happy to have been betrayed like this. they got me good, but there’s nothing i love more than knowing that pat and pran actually stayed together through everything, and that their love has only gotten stronger over the years.

i will never be over pat saying he should have ate more at the reunion, pran showing up at pat’s door as the ‘food’, and then pat yanking him inside. i can’t believe them omg.

of all their sponsors, my fave has to be the nivea ones. they’re always SO cute and in love when they’re wiping each other’s faces (even back when pat didn’t realise he was in love with pran yet). but now, it feels even cuter knowing that they’ve been in a solid relationship for years.

i love it soooooo much when pran’s the one expressing his jealousy. it’s so adorable!!!!!!!! pran’s “our sweetness is gone”, and then pat squeezing his face and calling him the cutest...he’s absolutely right and he should say it 😭

it does make me a little sad that they still feel like they have to hide their relationship even though they’ve been together for years, but at the same time, i also kind of love how it’s become this little game for the two of them. like the hiding doesn’t make them feel uncomfortable like before, it’s just them having fun with it...keeping it a secret that’s only between the both of them.

PAT’S NOTICEBOARD SHRINE. he’s SUCH a romantic...it’s so unbearably sweet of him. all their photos, post its, postcards, smiley face ping pong lights, ID cards, the GUITAR PICK...it makes me feel so full. i can feel their love in every single item on that board. it’s just so beautifully rich in the history of their entire relationship. the love is so abundantly clear. MY HEART IS SO SOFT FOR THEM.

then the way they circle back to the very beginning again and how they introduced one another in the first ep?? only this time the way they talk about one another is completely different bc it’s the two of them telling us their own love story, instead of the words they’ve heard from their parents’ mouths about each other. now it’s just them and only them.

that shot of them as kids in front of their houses, and then the transition to them coming back from their trip last ep...i know that it turned out well in the end, but even just seeing them in that position, still makes my chest ache. the emotional damage was very real that whole week, and it still pains me when i think about how things COULD have ended up.

pran’s face as he pretends to cry after lying about the break up is so funny even though i still hate the two of them for putting me through a week of torture!!!!!

thinking about it, it must have been so weird for their faculties/friends that weren’t wai and korn...like a week ago, pat was basically proposing to pran in front of everyone, and now they’ve broken up and are pretending like the other doesn’t exist 😭

pran working on his architecture project (while pat pretends to sleep in his room) is another shout out to the mock trailer!! i always wondered if we were ever gonna get a scene like this, so i’m glad we got it despite how brief it was.

the fact that they went back to the village after they graduated to celebrate with uncle tong and junior makes me SO HAPPY. they obviously couldn’t celebrate together with their parents or friends bc they’re still in hiding, so it’s just really nice to know that they have their found family to fall back on...and they get to be as open with them as they want :’)

PAT KISSING PRAN’S DIMPLES IS MY FAVE THING IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.

pran’s sweater game this whole ep is on point!! i love the sweater he wears when pat drops him off at the airport. also, the way he wiped his scent all over that shirt for pat...people in love stink smh.

pat sending pran a shirtless toilet selfie in the middle of his meeting pls 😂

one thing i really love about this ep (though there are MANY), is that pran’s so vocal about how much he just wants to climb pat like a tree. i literally CHOKED when he said he waited a whole year and called pat out on only lasting five minutes omg. cut the poor guy some slack...he’s been waiting a year for this too. i can’t even blame him for being too excited haha.

“it’s a long night tonight” i cannot stand them!!!!!!!!!!

triple date time!! even if waikorn aren’t dating (though they might as well be). it’s still so funny to me that they actually ended up buying the bar together. how the tables have turned :)

(sidenote, but i find the shirt wai’s wearing here hilarious bc it’s a ‘deakin university security’ shirt...and that’s a random uni in australia?? it’s also one of the unis that i actually studied at. it was the LAST thing i was expecting to see on this show...where are they getting all these shirts from????? pat’s had some very interesting ones too...i love all the clothing choices on this show so much).

paa being jealous and ink being clingy THEY’RE TOO CUTE...i’m so in love with them and that will never change. i’m so sad that we won’t get more inkpaa now that the series is over...they deserve the world!!

not korn and wai being the ones breaking up bar fights now...who would have thought. it’s payback for all the fights they caused in the earlier eps for sure.

pat and pran being so loud about their love in this bar. i just want what they have ;;; i adore seeing them be this open in front of the people that their close to. at least they get to have this little piece of the public, even if they can’t be fully open about their relationship in every way (yet).

this entire bar scene just makes me feel so full and happy.

pran ordering an extra wonton bc he knows pat will steal his food. cute.

when they talk about their parents, it does feel a little bittersweet. pran might understandably be a bit more distant from his parents than before, but it still seems like they get along okay. pat’s relationship with his parents though (particularly with his dad) seems to have deteriorated quite a bit. he mentioned previously that they fought a lot when they were working together too. after everything that happened, this makes sense. when you find out that someone that you looked up to so much did something to disappoint you so deeply (like pat’s dad did), it’s extremely difficult for your relationship to ever go back to the way things were. that’s why there always seems to be this tinge of sadness whenever pat talks about his parents/the family business.

this is prob the most realistic thing about this ep for me. things can’t ever be the same, and they can be cordial with one another, but the respect won’t ever be what it was. which is honestly what pat’s dad deserves imo. it’s a shame bc we always want all outcomes to be perfect, but things don’t always turn out that way, and this feels incredibly true to life.

it’s a nice gesture that pran still buys liquor for pat’s dad though. like, even if they can’t love each other openly in front of their parents, he’s still being respectful to them. it seems like pran doesn’t want to see pat’s relationship with his parents to feel so broken too (esp if that makes pat sad), so he’s making an effort. not to fix things exactly, bc who knows if things will ever truly be fixed...but to make things more bearable for pat and his parents. like he’s at least trying to help bridge the divide between them with this gift.

the “let’s go home” and “good luck, buddy”...they made me cry until i had no more tears left last ep bc of this, and now they’re smiling as they say it again???????? THE AUDACITY OF THESE TWO. I’M DONE.

pat running over, sniff kissing pran right in front of their houses, continuing to blow kisses at him, and THEN saying “bye” in the loudest voice possible...and they STILL think their parents don’t know about their relationship...guys, come on...

i have to say, one thing that i really do like about bad buddy as a whole is the lack of homophobia in this world. like i totally understand why this needs to be addressed in other dramas, but i like that it isn’t the main focus or conflict in this one...it’s just really nice to see that sort of casual acceptance. like ink and paa being cute around paa’s parents and no one making it a big deal. their relationship is treated with such normalcy (as it should be), and it makes me happy. ink calling paa’s dad “papa”, and paa’s mum preparing fruit for all of them...the absolute cutest.

do i wish pat and pran were given the same courtesy by their parents? of course. but i've always liked that the root of the conflict isn’t that their parents are homophobic...the basis of it all has always been the family rift instead.

pat coming home exactly at the same time pran does?? and then giving his dad the gift from his ‘friend’ abroad?? his parents aren’t stupid...they can connect the dots. they’re barely even hiding anything at this point (and it seems to me like pat kind of knows that too??). esp based on his father’s reaction to the gift. thank god for pat mother’s trying to smooth the awkwardness over (and ink and paa for helping with that).

the dinner scene is so sweet to me bc it shows us yet again just how much pat’s grown throughout the series. in ep 1, he was using the serving spoon to feed himself and stealing fried chicken before his sister even had a chance to take any herself. now, he’s making sure that everyone (his dad, paa, ink) are all well fed instead of focussing on himself. his relationship with pran has made him a lot more considerate of the people around him, and it’s so lovely to see the maturity in him now. even his dad seems to realise how much he’s changed, both personally and professionally, which imo makes things feel a lot more promising for their future.

i think it’s pretty clear how pat’s dad drinking the alcohol (a gift from pran), represents him slowly inching his way into accepting the both of them. this feels very real imo. it’s been years, and based on their balcony escapades and how LOUD the two of them are, their parents have likely known about their lie for a long, long time...but time does heal. and baby steps still mean progress, no matter how slow going.

he refuses the drink in pat’s presence, but drinks it when he’s no longer there. for me personally, this has to be one of the most relatable asian parent experiences ever. in all my years on this earth, i don’t think my parents have ever once apologised or admitted they were wrong for anything they were at fault for in my presence. but they’ll show they feel bad in actions (like pat’s dad accepting the alcohol, or pran’s mum leaving the guitar on pran’s bed). it’s always in these quiet actions/gestures, like they’re trying without saying it out loud. and the way that this show demonstrates this feels extremely realistic to me.

every time i rewatch this ep, this is the part where i start tearing up...when pran’s mum goes to make pran’s bed for him, and then she sees that picture of pran when he was a child, it ALWAYS gets to me. that’s her little boy, and she loves him. wants the best for him. wants him to be HAPPY. she knew what her husband and son were murmuring about the whole time, and it’s taken a long time, but the symbolism of her leaving that guitar on his bed for him just resonates so deeply with me. acceptance comes in stages. music has always made pran happy, so it’s just nice to see her realise that that’s the most important thing to her of all. she hated pran playing the guitar bc she saw it as him defying her, but she finally realises that she has to just let him be. she can’t keep controlling him forever bc it will never make him happy...be it the guitar, or pat. he’s a grown up now...with a steady job and in a loving, long-term relationship. he’ll always be her little boy, but he’s an adult now. independent, and more than capable of making his own decisions.

i also love how they included that scene where pat’s dad puts the mail in her mailbox for her, and pran’s mum sees it. it’s the little things. he looks at that line painted between their rubbish bins and see that it’s faded with time, just like how all the anger and resentment between them, while still there, doesn’t feel as strong anymore. not when their children are in love with each other. not when their children mean more to them than that animosity they’ve held onto for so long. we don’t know how things will go with their parents in the future, but based on this ep, i feel hopeful. one day, when they have to stop hiding, pat and pran will eventually need to confront their parents about their relationship...and i want to believe that by that point, their parents will understand and accept them fully the way they deserve. in the meantime, they’re still getting there, little by little. what happened between their parents will likely never heal in the same way (the scars will always be there), but i’d like to think that they’ll eventually be able to put aside those differences for the sake of their children and their happiness, so i’m choosing to look at this with optimism.

pran looking over at pat’s room and playing ‘our song’...he’s like a siren luring his prey 😂 he KNOWS pat’s about to climb over that balcony to sneak into his room :’)

pat literally falling on the roof, and the two of them singing and laughing so loudly like that...they must have known somewhat at that point that their parents weren’t clueless. they’re barely even trying to hide anymore. it’s just that no one, child or parent, is ready to approach that topic yet.

but it does make me feel a lot more at ease knowing that their parents have known this whole time, and never did anything to force them apart. when pran’s mum hears the two of them laughing, hears how happy her son is with pat, and it makes her smile?? it really warms my heart up so much. i don’t tend to cry when i’m happy, but that scene is just so touching to me, and it brings me to tears every time.

i love how even NOW, pran still uses wai to make pat jealous haha.

the two of them singing together...this scene is one of the CUTEST scenes in this whole drama ;;; you can just see how truly, madly, deeply in love they are with one another...it’s been four years, and in that time, they’ve only fallen harder for each other. they’re just so content and open here. this ep was so full of moments like this. they’ve been through so much together, and it’s only strengthened their relationship...it really shines through here most of all just how confident, happy, and secure everything is for them right this moment.

crying over how pat caresses pran’s cheek (dimple!!), kisses him on the forehead, and just continues to hold his face as they bob their heads and sing along. it’s so, so, so lovely.

at the end of the day, i realise now that i just underestimated everyone. pat, pran, and even their parents. i was too caught up on their parents being SO against them that i didn’t think that their parents would be human enough to actually understand their children’s perspective on this (and not be selfish like they were for most of pat and pran’s lives). that they’d be big enough to look past themselves and let their children lives their own lives. things aren’t exactly perfect, but it doesn’t feel impossible anymore, and i really like how natural this development feels.

but the thing i think i underestimated most of all, is the strength of pat and pran’s love for one another. i kept thinking that a break up had to happen bc of their circumstances, and i still believe that even if they HAD broken up, it would have beautiful bc it would have been done in love. but knowing that they actually stayed together makes it even better for me bc it's love either way. just love. always love. and the fact that they were strong and stable enough to stay together despite everything, makes me realise that their love really is so much stronger than i had originally thought. the moment they got together, they didn’t even break up once :’)

i said in my last post that fate always brings them together, but in this instance, they CHOSE to be together and that’s infinitely more incredible to me. even with all the uncertainty, they decided for themselves to stick together bc they couldn’t give each other up...they didn’t even NEED fate for this bc it was all them, and i don’t think you can get a more beautiful ending (or beginning, really) than that.

the score during the tin can scene is one of my FAVES. it gives off the perfect amount of nostalgia...like i can just hear it and my chest aches. i remember they played it during that high school flashback scene where they were writing 'just friends?’ together, and it gave me the same feeling back then that it does now.

this is another scene that i can never get through without tears...the way it transitions back to them as children as they talk on the tin cans. we’ve seen that SO MUCH has changed (their careers, their university, their friends and their lives, their parents attitude towards them) except for the way that they feel for each other. pat mentions at their high school reunion (”but some things can never change”), and just like how it relates to what uncle tong told them in the previous ep, their love has never wavered. this will never change. they’re still those two young boys from all those years ago, always connected. always in love. nothing could touch my heart more than this.

this is honestly the best usage of a time skip that i’ve ever seen in a drama. it’s so much better than how i thought they were going to use it. as expected, they ended up maturing...but they did so while still being a part of one another’s lives, choosing to grow together. i feel like it’s pretty rare to find time skips where the couple stays together throughout?? but bc they stayed together the whole time, it doesn’t feel like it’s rushed anything about their relationship in the way that most time skips tend to.

i’m always such a blubbering mess at this point, so i’m glad they gave us that last scene of them on pat’s rooftop to lighten the mood again!!

something i love about this particular scene is that, in the last ep during their ‘honeymoon’, the drinking game they played involved them (mainly pat) asking one another questions so they could get to know each other better...but the drinking game in this ep has changed to them answering questions about one another. i love that it shows us how much their relationship has developed since then. they know each other even better now, enough so they can answer all these questions about one another and their relationship. but i also like how there are still questions that they don’t know about each other. it shows that there’s still so much more room for them to grow and learn about one another, and now we know they have a whole future ahead of them to do that :’)

the kisses in this ep are so satisfying. pat really lays them on pran thick 😂 he really loves those dimples.

i also just realised that the first night pat slept over at pran’s place (the day after his birthday!!), was also the night that he broke pran’s heart. i wonder if pat sees this as a fond memory, but pran sees it as a sad one, and that’s also why he never really assigned any significance to the date (and doesn’t remember it)? then again, pran also seems to be more forgetful than pat in general, so maybe that’s just me overthinking things as usual 😅

i love that, despite how competitive the two of them are, they switch the game around so they’re letting one another win instead. it’s like they’re both following pat’s “when i have a lover, i always let them win” philosophy, and i ESPECIALLY love that it’s pran that introduces this rule this time around.

PRAN WAS SO READY FOR THAT KISS...he looked so confused when pat was stalling omg.

ngl i kind of lost my mind a little when i heard pat singing same page...this was BY FAR my favourite reference to the mock trailer. I COULDN’T BELIEVE IT!! same page was my second most listened to song last year BECAUSE of the bad buddy mock trailer...i was always hoping that they’d play it in the drama, but i didn’t think it was ever gonna happen. that was such a cute little acknowledgement for all the fans that have been there since bad buddy’s announcement. i loved it!!

same page was the song that started it all (the wave of nostalgia hitting me when i remember just HOW excited all of us were when the first trailer dropped, and ohm and nanon’s entrance with it playing in the background as we learnt that they were going to be in bad buddy together 😭). pat singing a line from it to close out the drama is like we’ve come full circle. like we’re finally back home.

and then their kiss to top it all off was just the cherry on top.

“punish me. please make me beg for my life.” i’m telling you now, i just know pat and pran are into some kinky shit (and good for them!!!!!). never getting over how pran likes when pat calls him “baby”. i didn’t know it then, but i truly needed this piece of knowledge.

the both of them wrestling and then pinning each other down against various surfaces in pat’s apartment...and then pran leaping on top of the KITCHEN COUNTER to pin pat down?????? pran should have been the one climbing between their balconies, clearly his agile enough omg.

they ended bad buddy in the most pat and pran way possible, and i couldn’t love it more than i already do :’))) it was so much more than i could have hoped for...this whole series was...and it’s basically been a whole week since it ended, but i still have this huge bad buddy shaped hole in my heart that no other drama will ever be able to fill.

i’ve only really felt this way about one other drama before (itsay), and i didn’t think i would ever feel as emotionally invested in a series in the same way ever again until bad buddy happened, so i’m just so incredibly grateful to p’aof, ohm, nanon, and the entire cast and crew of this drama. it was the one thing i looked forward to every single week, and it breaks my heart knowing that we won’t be able to follow along with pat and pran’s journey anymore, but knowing that they’re happy and thriving somewhere in their fictional universe kind of puts it back together again.

this is absolutely the best romance i’ve ever seen on screen before. everything about pat and pran’s love is just so beautiful and real to me. i’ve already talked about how much i adore these two and their relationship at length in my previous posts, and i genuinely mean every word. their relationship is just so special in its simplicity, yet it still found a way to surprise me every time. they’ve raised my standards for love, and if i can’t have what they have, then i don’t want it ;;; ohm and nanon’s portrayals and chemistry are the gold standard as far as i’m concerned. they were incredible in this. i knew they would be ever since they were announced as the main leads for this project, but they still knocked it out of the park. they exceeded every expectation i ever had. i’m so proud of them.

most of all, i just want to thank p’aof for giving us this drama. without him, this would have never happened. his vision is the reason that we got ohm and nanon as pat and pran in the first place, and i’m eternally grateful for that. i’ve always loved p’aof’s works, but this one is his masterpiece imo. the emotions i felt while watching this are unparalleled, and i don’t see that ever changing no matter how many times i rewatch this (and i know i’ll be rewatching it for years to come).

i actually never intended on writing any of these posts...like literally the only other dramas i’ve ever written these thoughts/recaps posts for were itsay and ipytm...and i never had any desire to do them again until bad buddy came into my life. i held off until ep 5, but after that i had no choice but to cave into the weight of all the feelings i had...and then each ep just kept making me feel more and more, and i had to keep going :’)

if you’ve read this whole post (and/or any of my other posts), thank you so much!! i know that they’re all pretty long-winded (it’s def hard for me to be succinct sometimes), but it always means a lot to me seeing people get as emotional about this show as i do. just knowing that we’re all in the same boat. idk when the next time i’ll be doing one of these again will be, but if we ever get a special ep/sequel/prequel/spin off to bad buddy of any kind, then i’ll more than likely be there!! i miss this show so much already.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Ep. 4 Takeaway

Uh. No. No, I was not in any way, shape, or form prepared for that heart-wrenching opening. That raw emotion. The gut-punching fear. The devastation. The soul massive relief from under all that fear and pain. No, I was not ready.

“She’s just a kid.” This is why Sam should be Captain America. Look, no one can replace Steve Rogers. There will never be another Steve Rogers. But that’s not the point. Sam isn’t meant to replace anyone. He’s meant to be his own Captain America. A man who has the heart and soul of a person who doesn’t go looking for a fight. A man who will fight when it needs to be done. A man who reaches out with compassion first and fists second. Sam is the Captain America this world needs in these modern times and tbh it doesn’t deserve him.

“Those are our friends you’re talking about.” “The Avengers, not the Nazis.” Thank you for your contribution, Bucky. 😂 No, but, I really liked the our friends. Not just my friends, but our friends and Bucky concurring with that by pointing out who Sam means.

Sam sharing the story about his TT. His family means so much to him as does community and I think that’s why he can relate to Karli and what she wants to do but also cannot condone how she’s going about it.

Yes, if anyone wondered, Baron Zemo would sell out his family to the White Witch for some Turkish Delight.

I do like Zemo stepping back into the more villainous role. While I enjoyed the humor from last episode, it never really sat right with me that they gave Zemo a “tragic” backstory. He was Hydra in the comics and it feels weird to me to change it in such a way. He was a supremacist so his new anti-supremacist ideals is...off-putting to me.

“It wasn’t just one community coming together. It was the entire world.” Hence why Sam can understand Karli’s goals.

Sam assuming the leadership role so much in the episode. So much foreshadowing to what’s (hopefully) to come.

When Bucky loses it with Zemo and Sam is like “Don’t engage. He’s just gonna extort you and do that stupid head tilt thing.” Not only is this more leadership from Sam it’s also showing how much he pays attention. He knows all their social cues. He knew Zemo was gonna do that probably before Zemo even did. In other words, Sam Wilson is remarkable.

Sam calling Sharon for help. I wasn’t expecting her again so soon. Yay!!

As soon as John Walker steps on screen I want to punch something.

“He’s dealt with worth. And he’s not my partner.” Look at Bucky backing Sam up while trying to play it cool. We all know you love him, Buck.

Sam talking to Karli. Coming to her from a place of understanding and genuinely trying to earn her trust because he does understand her pain. He’s filled with so much compassion and so much empathy and he knows how to employ both of them to better a situation and the world at large instead of coming in guns blazing. He gets it. And he wants Karli to know that he gets it. His approach to getting her to see that she’s going about it in the wrong way. But while she’s okay with acceptable loss, she in fact expects it, Sam is not. “No, it’s not a better place if you’re killing people. It’s just different.” Again, this is what makes him a good Captain America.

“He knows what he’s doing.” Bucky’s faith and trust in Sam when Walker is literally itching for a fight. That...cold, obsessed look in Walker’s eyes was chilling. (I’ve given kudos to Mackie and Seb for their acting but I should also acknowledge Wyatt Russel’s chilling performance))

Thank you, John Walker, for coming in and making things better oh wait, no. Just come in a fuck things up. Super of you.

Sam’s immediate “no” when Zemo asked if he’d take the serum if he was offered it and asking about Bucky being included in the “super soldiers cannot be allowed to exist.” “Blood isn’t always the solution.” Sam is just. I’m running out of words.

I’m now walking a thin line of patience with Bucky criticizing Sam over not taking the Shield. Like, yes, he’s right in that Steve’s wishes were not honored, but Sam is living the consequences wanting to do the right thing by giving the Shield to a museum. He did not and would not have ever handed it over to anyone to use, especially not a man like John Walker. Sam didn’t give it to him. The government did. The same way they’d’ve given the serum to a man like Gilmore Hodge. The same way they forced it upon Isiah Bradley and then experimented on him and locked him away. The same way they “agreed” that Sam was doing the right thing by turning the Shield over and then handing it to John Walker. This is not Sam’s fault.

I could take hours of Ayo and the Dora Milaje kicking John Walker’s ass.

I really want to know what Ayo said to Bucky there**. After everything the Wakandans did for him, I can understand why she did what she did. She helped give his freedom and his mind back to him. I know Bucky only intercepted in that particular fight because Sam asked him to and he didn’t (not totally) want them to hurt Walker but. They gave him this place of freedom and his actions (breaking Zemo out, getting involved in their fight) did disrespect them.

The Dora stepping on and catching the Shield. SWOON.

“They weren’t even super soldiers.” Oh, boo freaking hoo. You don’t need the serum to be a superhero, dude. And the fact that you’re basing so much of this on that plus your obesssion to gt it just proves you’re not worthy of it.

“Power just makes a person more of themselves, right?” Vs. “Because a strong man, who has known power all his life, will lose respect for that power. But a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows compassion."

Seriously, the expressions John Walker makes sends chills down my spine.

Karli calling Sarah. I actually thought she’d show up in person. Sarah’s comments about “Captain America” and her assurances that Sam is not working for Walker.

Sam’s immediate protectiveness when Sarah calls him and Bucky’s worry on his behalf. Sam’s anger with Karli when they meet again and the fact that he didn’t argue with Bucky for him wanting to come rather than Sam going in alone.

Sam and Bucky working together (anyone notice a lot less bickering??) is so amazing. I love them as a team.

Sam’s face when he realizes that Walker took the serum.

Quite honestly, if Bucky Barnes wanted to stab me with knives all night long, I’d let him.

Not happy with them killing Lemar for white man pain. I’m sure there were other ways they could have had Walker rage out.

That amazing parallel between Steve slamming the Shield down in Civil War to defend himself and Bucky and Walker killing a person who was just with Karli.

Speaking of parallels, there was SO many in this episode. The serum vials being shattered. The bursting through the doors Shield first. The jumping out of the window with the Shield. Just wow.

“The Whole World is Watching”. A quote from Black Panther when T’Challa did not kill Klaue, an actual terrorist. The title of this episode when John Walker kills a man who didn’t even incite his rage.

And, of course, that final image. I’m still shaking over it. If there’s a better image for what America represents to the rest of the world, idk what is. I just want to cry after seeing what this man is doing with it. This is why he’s U.S. Agent who represents the “power” and “strength” and “might” of the United States. Not Captain America who represents the ideals and hopes of what any country can be.

The acting in this is utterly incredible. The story has me reeling. My mind has been blown by each and every episode and I can’t believe there are only two left.

The combination of how the cullens behave towards people and how little they care (as per therealvinelles metas) and fuckmeyers metas and how often they are incredibly immoral and strange, what is their motive for vegitarianism? Like, their reasons for why they do it are clear sometimes but what is their internal justification for it? What do they think their motives are?

This is an interesting question!! I think for some of the cullens it's clearer and more consistent than others:

Carlisle: was prepared to die rather than violate the "sanctity of life" right from the moment he was turned. Now, what he considers life is definitely influenced by his (and meyer's) christianity*. He had no qualms with eating animals as a human or as a vampire. He also cares about the shifters up to a point. Based on book canon, he would never kill one of the pack members and he does value the treaty more than the others Cullens (especially Edward) but I think he also sees himself as somewhat superior to them. He ran tests on Jake's blood without consent, valuing his own curiosity over Jacob's right to his own body. But that's a whole other meta lol. Anyway, I think Carlisle, like many christians*, values "human" (he's added vampires and shifters to this) life period over quality of life. He didn't let Rose die because it would have been a "waste" but he didn't consider what a curse immortality would be for her. Alive in any condition is better than dead for Carlisle and I believe that is his core motivation for continuing the diet (and for turning the 4 vampires that he did).

Jasper: I put him second because I agree with @therealvinelle that Jasper might have figured out the vegetarian diet on his own eventually even if he'd never met alice. Jaspers gift made it painful for him to feed and in Eclipse he tells Bella that he went so far as to starve himself for periods of time just to avoid the emotional pain of feeding. His self control still isn't perfect but he is the only Cullen who personally needs the diet, not for moral reasons like Carlisle, but because feeding from humans is almost traumatizing for him.

Esme: her only motivation for the diet is carlisle. Honestly during my reread Esme comes across as nice, not kind, and very nearly agoraphobic. She avoids most humans except for Bella and only works in isolation (renovating a house by herself during NM). She isn't doing the diet because she likes being around people and needs to control her urges and blend, she isn't doing the diet out of compassion (she told Edward he could eat Bella in MS if that's what he needed to do), and she has no physical or emotional need like Jasper to refrain from eating humans. She only does it because Carlisle, the man she had romanticized and adored since she was 16, "saved" her and taught her this diet. She does it for him.

Rosalie: Rosalie is also in a unique position within the Cullen clan because for her the diet is not about morals or need but control. And with her "origin story" so to speak, it makes perfect sense. The last moments of her life were senseless violence. For her, whether she would admit it or not, the diet is entirely about exerting control over her current undead life. Regaining the agency that was taken from her in her last moments of life and in the first moments of her life as a vampire. You can see it in the way she speaks of her record as well- she doesn't care that she isn't killing humans or drinking them, she cares because she has self control. She is empowered by her spotless feeding record and she feels justified in the deaths she did cause (even brushing off the two guards she killed to get to Royce).

Edward: Edward only does the diet for his own internal theater. He's wrapped up in his own unfolding drama- when he turns away from Carlisle he turns himself into a vigilante, scouring the night for sexual predators, drug abusers, pedophiles, and deviants. It's very Film Noir for him. He tells Bella that he couldn't bear to kill "good" humans which was why he went after "villains" when he did break from the diet but as we learn in MS when he fantasizes about killing literally the entire Quileute tribe, Edward doesn't care about killing "good" humans either. Edward would kill anyone as long as the reason was justified by his own theater. He'd kill Mike Newton out of "love," he'd kill deviants on the street to "prove" himself, he'd even try to kill to whole Volturi just to martyr himself and "prove" that they really were evil after all. Edward only does the vegetarian diet while it fits with his self image. With Bella, he sees himself as saintly, "like carlisle," punishing himself with thirst so that he deserves the Bella Madonna he invented in his own head. And of course, a lot of his self image and image of world is warped into a wonky Carlisle shape because he's fully obsessed with his creator. He does the diet in part for carlisle (which we see in NM when Alice "sees" edward killing hundreds of tourists in volterra and then changing his mind so that he doesn't disappoint carlisle) and in part because of his own mental theater.

Emmett, Alice, & Bella: all three do the diet because "that's what cullens do." They aren't motivated by love of carlisle, like Esme, even if they may all respect carlisle (tbh I wouldn't believe that any of them feel love for anyone though that comes down to meyers ability to show genuine love in the first place. But again that's a whole other meta lolol). They don't really care about humans at all as all three have the "slip ups happen, lol" attitude about eating humans. Alice does the diet because she "saw" it, Emmett does the diet because Carlisle turned him, Bella does the diet because she's a Cullen. If edward wanted to leave and go on a binge-eating road trip through every city in america, Bella would tag along.

Renesmee: honestly I don't remember BD well and I'm not there yet in my reread but I vaguely remember Renesmee being capable of biting humans (and Jacob) without killing them. If this is the case, I don't think Renesmee will be following the diet for very long at all because why bother reigning herself in if she can sip on a human with no real consequence of murder?

Of course, I assume Renesmee will still be "vegetarian" in meyers threatened sequel because the out of universe reason the cullens have to be vegetarians is simply, they need to be superior. They need to stand out from those other nasty vampires who are only vegetarians for sex or worse, aren't vegetarians at all! The theme of valuing existence over quality of life is really consistent throughout the saga, from Carlisle's choice to turn the cullens that he did to Bella's decision to keep Renesmee. Its a very pro-life series through and through.

* I didn't want to get too wordy there but I mean the US's specific brands of christianity like evangelicalism and mormonism. In the US, christians value "sanctity of life" over quality of life in every way. (Ergo why it's easier to pass abortion bans than universal healthcare here.) I don't think meyer really paid much attention to historical accuracy when she wrote Carlisle (if she thought london had sewers in the 17th century, I doubt she would know the nuanced differences between modern and early protestantism) so I think his own religious beliefs are more reflective of modern US christianity than 17th century britain's christianity. *

I've been rewatching all the Loki content to get ready for the new show and I have thought of A Phineas and Ferb AU™ for your viewing pleasure (and if anyone wants to turn any part of this into an actual fanfic I would owe you my life)

You know how the first Thor movie ends with Loki yeeting himself off the Bifrost and falling to earth? What if, instead of going after the Tesseract, he falls straight to the Tri-State area?

Jane, Darcy, and Selvig all seemed to be on vacation, right? So Thor presumably took place during the summer — say, perhaps, ending on June 3? So he falls right onto Phineas and Ferb's rollercoaster just before it goes down that ♫ three-mile drop straight down ♪. He has no idea wtf is happening so it's not like he gets the chance to sit down and put on a seatbelt, so he's stuck holding on for dear life for the entire rollercoaster ride which Phineas and Ferb find weird but they're not really concerned bc they're chill lil dudes and tbh this isn't too far off a normal day for them.

Phineas and Loki strike up a none-too-pleasant conversation (not that Phineas notices Loki's bad mood; he's too Him to realize not everyone is rainbows and sunshine all day, every day), and our favorite lil disoriented demigod has to figure out where the fuck he is now ("You there. What realm is this?" "Danville 🙂" "Wut da fuk?") and what the fuck he's supposed to do now that he's here.

Phineas ends up inviting him to hang out for the afternoon, and Loki is about to turn him down but then he smells the pie. He's never had doonkleberry pie before so obviously he has to try it. Then, when Loki's no longer hangry, they can hold an actual conversation. It's lowkey more Loki wallowing in his own self-pity than anything else, but Ferb recognizes Asgard when Loki mentions it so he and Phineas piece together that he's a god pretty quickly.

More importantly, though, they figure out that he's completely alone, and because Loki never mentions trying to, you know, murder his brother and lowkey overthrow the monarchy, they just kinda assume Loki's family sucks (Ferb is completely prepared to start the anti-Thor club but Phineas stops him because he doesn't want his brother to get struck by lightning) and adopt him (without his consent, but it's not like he has anywhere else to be -- and he did like that pie).

Loki has no desire to build anything with the boys He thinks the idea of a backyard beach they make the next morning is stupid — even more stupid than a regular beach, and that's saying something. But over time, he gets more involved -- not just with the boys, but with the entire family. He helps the boys build their inventions. He talks about human history with Lawrence and corrects much of his knowledge on mythology. He lets Linda teach him how to bake seriously, her pies are so good. He even suffers through Candace's mall trips as long as he gets to go to that fro-yo place on the second floor (though he draws the line at any conversation involving romance).

He's still a little skeptical of the platypus (and he feels like the platypus is a little skeptical of him, too) but Phineas insists that he's "just a platypus" and he "doesn't do much." Loki doesn't realize that Perry's keeping an eye on him for OWCA, nor does he know that Monogram has absolutely no idea what to make of the dude so he hasn't actually told any of his superiors about him. As far as the government is concerned, after the fiasco in New Mexico, Loki just disappeared.

This makes it fucking hilarious when the boys accidentally steal the superheroes' powers in Mission: Marvel and the superheroes show up at the Flynn-Fletchers' front door only to see fucking Loki. Loki just shuts the door in their faces without a word because what the fuck?, but eventually Phineas and Ferb go check the door and they agree to help the heroes (much to Loki's chagrin), which, of course, isn't complete with Candace fangirling over them (also much to Loki's chagrin; she never fangirled over him). At first the Avengers are fully convinced that Loki is responsible for stealing their powers, and Loki never actually denies it because he's a little shit but Phineas, Ferb, and their friends are very insistent that Loki didn't do anything (except a little bit of manual labor putting together the satellites because they're 10 and he's a whole-ass demigod).

At some point, Thor and Loki have a very heated discussion about the events of Thor, and it's pretty much all news to the Flynn-Fletchers and their friends. They're not really sure what to make of it so they basically glue their mouths shut and watch it all play out. I'd like to think it goes something like it does in The Avengers and that a) Thor is pissed because what the fuck have you been up to Loki you fucking dumbass, b) Thor has been in mourning since Loki yeeted himself into the abyss and he wants to make sure the guy knows it, and c) Loki does not take it seriously at all he's being antagonistic the entire time because he is so sick of Mr. High-And-Mighty's shit. In the end, Loki storms out of the SHEDquarters and Phineas doesn't even think to try to stop him until he's halfway out the door and it's too late.

He shows up again when Phineas, Ferb, and the Avengers try to fight the bad guys in the mall with the wrong powers and he basically singlehandedly saves their asses until superhero Perry shows up. As everyone's favorite shapeshifter, he has absolutely no problem figuring out that this beaver duck dude is the Flynn-Fletchers' platypus. He has no idea what to do with that information, but it sure is information that he now has apparently. (At this point, poor Loki has a very warped sense of what earth is supposed to be like lmao).

Phineas tries to get Loki to come back with them after superhero Perry grabs them and carries them home. Instead, Loki cuts himself loose and falls like 30 feet straight down (and tbh after falling from the Bifrost, that's nothing to him) and peaces the fuck out.

Loki ends up accidentally bonding with Candace and Isabella over feeling useless and unwanted (and he absolutely gets his own verse in Only Trying to Help because it's what he deserves), but unlike the two girls who are hell-bent on changing that, Loki is content wallowing in his own self-pity. He's tried this whole "being important" thing before and he ended up in self-exile for it. He's not putting himself through it again because he really doesn't expect it to end well. But then the powerless heroes decide to face the villains again, and with Candace and Isabella in space and Perry nowhere to be seen, he realizes it is once again up to him to keep the tri-state area safe (which he knows is a stupid priority but he's gotten kind of attached to these stupid little humans and he wants to keep them safe).

Then the heroes get their powers back and they join Loki (and Perry and the mysterious waffle gun in the sky) and beat the shit out of the villains. Thor and Loki work together in the heat of the battle which serves as a Great Bonding Moment™, and once the villains are gone, they have a nice lil heart-to-heart where they both apologize for their past. Thor remarks that Loki seems to have grown a lot over the last couple of months and tries to bring Loki home with him, but Loki refuses. He'll never be welcome back into Asgard, no matter what Thor may say.

But he is welcome with the Flynn-Fletchers, who are completely over the fact that he tried to ruin Thor's life and take his not-so-rightful place on the throne (except Candace who's very skeptical about having him back but it's not like Linda will believe her if she tries to tell her what Thor and Loki talked about so her opinion is unfortunately as irrelevant as it usually is on the show).

And early the next morning, before anyone else is awake, Perry gets an alert that he's needed in his headquarters (presumably to talk to or about Fury). He quietly sneaks off, only to find Loki waiting at the bottom of the stairs for him. They have a very nice "conversation" (not that Perry speaks) about the superhero Ducky Momo they saw the day before, and Loki assures him that his secret is safe, thus starting a much-needed bromance between Loki and Perry because it's what my babies, goddammit!

Anyways yeah if anyone wants to write a fanfic about Loki hanging out with Phineas and Ferb during his self-exile I would give you a socially distant high-five because I want to read it but I have too many other fanfics on my plate to start this one for at least a few months. It doesn't have to follow this prompt literally at all (I swear I wasn't trying to get this in-depth with it but this is what I do apparently) or it can follow this prompt exactly idc i just want a PnF/Loki fanfic 🥺

Cat’s Definitive Ranking of Every ML Episode as of 4/22/21

Are you guys ready for this? I did the thing. You’re all welcome. Don’t ever ask me for anything again. You can watch me get progressively more unhinged in real time.

Now, just to preface this, I did not give this too much thought. Most of these are just my gut feelings. I went through every episode and just made some snap judgments based off the lasting impressions I’ve been left with. These are my opinions. If you don’t like them, tough. And also I don’t care. Go spend 4 hours making your own damn ranking. And shut the hell up. Anyway, this is probably the longest post I’ve ever made, so I’m gonna put it all under a read more. Click on it if you have an hour to read it. Okay, here we go!

1. Origins II- Good starting point for our heroes. Good establishment of canon ships and character dynamics. Umbrella scene literally stole my wallet. Cannot emphasis enough that I am whipped for the umbrella scene. I wrote a whole ass AU just to say how whipped I am for the umbrella scene. In the Rain will play at my wedding. Jk. Weddings are for suckers. But dammit if I don’t want these kids to get married. 10/10

2. Origins I- Good introduction to lore. Good introduction to characters. Good establishment of status quoyo. Just good. 10/10

3. Simon Says- Listen, I am nothing if not a shipper at heart. This episode just sparks joy. And the whole series almost ended when Gabriel almost jumped off the roof. I was really rooting for this one. This was the episode where I saw Ladrien and went yes, ma’am, I’ll have one of those. 10/10

4. Evillustrator- Are you all surprised? Cat, the MC-skeptic ranked the pivotal MC episode so highly? Well, let me tell you all a thing, I started this fandom out a MC shipper because of this episode. Their first interaction is gold. I don’t deny that. I enjoy it. This is the MC dynamic I fell in love with. Yall toxic shippers ruined MC for me when you opened your mouths and spat in the face of Ladrien and baselessly declared MC the sin-ship. We all know it’s Ladrien. Stop kidding yourselves. Boy in leather catsuit? Please. Basic ass vanilla bitches. I’m getting off-topic. Solid episode 10/10. We love to see it.

5. Stormy Weather- Baby’s first Miraculous episode. It holds a special place in my heart. It’s a solid episode. Good establishment of what the show is. Fun villain. Good times. Fond memories. 10/10

6. Riposte- Listen, I know I’m an Adrinette stan, but hear me out: Ladrien. It’s just so good. And Kagami was compelling in this episode. It was just really solid. It’s my favorite s2 episode. If you ask me if I want to rewatch Riposte, the answer is always yes. 10/10. We stan.

7. Gorizilla- Okay, so this episode has some solid Adrinette in it, but the real reason it ranks so high is that fucking Ladrien trust fall. I stare at that scene for hours, you guys. HOURS. It is absolutely just *chefs kiss*. Sometimes when I need a pick-me-up, I just go watch gifs of that catch on loop. 10/10. Beautiful. Radiant. Carefree.

8. Gang of Secrets- I have been keeping most of my opinions to myself about s4 (mostly because I’ve backed way the hell out of this fandom), but GoS was pretty solid. Gotta say, it’s the first episode in a long time with this show that made me actually excited to see what happens next. Most other episodes I was like, okay, that was cute. The show is still meh overall. But GoS really got me like oh shit, is ML good again? 10/10 for making me feel things again.

9. Oblivio- Told you guys this one was probably rated higher than I thought. Oblivio is just really fun. There is good Adrinette. That “No wonder I fell in love with you” paired with the softest of Adrien smiles just sends me. And the kisses. The unquestionable trust. These two kids literally woke up together alone in an elevator with no memories and said welp, you’re my boyfriend/girlfriend obviously, I don’t make the rules. Honestly, how anyone could argue that these two dorks aren’t made for each other after that episode is beyond me. 9/10

10. Backwarder- Okay, I know I am weird and alone for this one, but I really liked this episode. It got a lot of shit for the constipation capsule thing at the end, but like who cares? We finally got some more backstory on Fu. He got a love-interest who is dope as hell. This episode is my favorite lucky charm use ever. Like that queen DID that. I like Backwarder, guys! Fuck off. 9/10.

11. Kwamibuster- We all know I am a Marinette-stan by this point, but our girl was SHINING this episode. This bitch said gimme all them and let me go whoop this bitch’s ass, and she DID. Hawkmoth could never. Multimouse is a gift, and Marinette is a boss ass queen. 9/10

12. Chat Blanc- Listen, this episode was very good. I enjoy the idea of my children being happy in another timeline somewhere very much. We got all 4 sides of the square in an episode. It’s just really solid. I know this is the fandom’s favorite, and everyone is gonna shit their pants because it didn’t make my top 10, but this is my list. So, I put it at number 12. It’s good. I like it. It just didn’t steal my wallet like other episodes did. Put the pitchforks down. It’s gonna be okay, you can still love it more than me. 8/10

13. New York Special- I know everyone felt some type of way about this special, but I wasn’t mad at it. My perception of it might be clouded because I watched it in Disney World where I was chilling and having a great time, but like this special really did somethings for me. The Adrinette was top tier. Tippy top tier. Even though they hurt us in the end, I am okay with it because it just means the children will grow and come out stronger. I don’t care if it’s not technically canon. Ask me if I give a fuck. I don’t. I had fun here. 8/10. Solid.

14. The Collector- This one might shock a lot of you, but let me paint you a scene. It’s the first episode of s2. We have just come off a 2 year hiatus. The fandom is thriving. We’re hungry for canon content. We have hopes and dreams and expectations. Everyone is going wild with theories. This episode confirmed something that was long since obvious (in my opinion) and ended the stupid arguments people had been having. It made Gabriel actually seem semi-competent. We got our first taste of how Chat/Adrien will react to his dad being Hawkmoth. We got a peek at their life. Adrien’s isolation and sadness. They were so close to figuring it out. The battle was epic. Like Collector really had them on the ropes there for a second. It’s a solid episode, yall. I’m not wrong. Hate me all you want, but this episode brought it. 8/10

15. Despair Bear- Is this episode up this high because of the Adrinette slow dance scene? YOU BET YOUR ASS IT IS. Okay, but fr though, shipping aside, this episode gave us hope that Chloe was actually gonna redeem herself. I mean, she didn’t but, we didn’t know that at the time. Seeing her run around trying to be nice was fun. And then she actually did something good, and we had a moment of okay, she’s capable. We’ll get there. We didn’t. But what a ride this episode was for making us think she would. 8/10

16. Startrain- Cat, you’re just ranking all the Adrinette episodes highest. And? What of it? Are you surprised? You clicked a blog that has simping for Adrinette in the description, and you’re surprised all my favorite episodes have Adrinette? I’m not wrong, you’re just an idiot. The Adrinette nap cuddles aside though, this was a pretty good episode. If you don’t think too hard about the whole space thing, we got a look at Max’s life, his mom is a driven, smart lady doing her best. Adrien rebels against papa for once. Alya stops a Lila scheme. Chloe gets to play the hero. Alya and Nino actually investigate like the heroes they are. Gabriel gets to realize what a dumbass bitch he is. I mean. Guys. Startrain is solid. 7.5/10

17. Sapotis- This one shot up in rank for me after GoS, but tbh it’s always been a solid episode. Alyanette sleepover? Check. Alya becoming a superhero? Check. It’s a fun episode. And looking back, it’s nicely called back to later in GoS. We love it. 7.5/10

18. Sandboy- Idk why I enjoy this episode as much as I do, but I do. Sandboy is a cute bean. I love his aesthetic. We also get hilarious looks at everyone’s nightmares. “Plagg, who turned you into a sock?” cracks me up cause like Adrien, bby, no XD And Chat Noir’s nightmare. I think it would have been interesting though if since Sandboy dusted the Agreste mansion, if we got a peek at Hawkmoth’s nightmares. It would have been a nice hint of plot to go along with Master Fu’s nightmare. Also Plagg giving the akuma the slip like the clever boy we know he is deep down? 7.5/10

19. Furious Fu- If you guys haven’t realized by now that I love Fu, idk what you’re doing. Pay attention. I know that some people don’t like him, but I’m just gonna say it, you’re wrong. Fu took care of the Miracle Box for over 100 years, and this episode kind of gives some insight to what the Order was like. Very strict. Lots of rules. And ya know what, Fu said fuck the police, I’m gonna befriend these little magical demigods, and fuck off! Like what an absolute legend. I was really happy to see him living his best life, and that he and Marianne got married because it’s what he deserves. We love to see it. 7.5/10

20. Gamer- People like to shit on Marinette in this episode, but like honestly, if I were in her shoes, I’d have probably done the same thing if I had the skill. Ain’t nothing wrong with a girl trying to spend time with the boy she likes. And Tom and Sabine being absolute shipping trash. I love them. And the awkward Adrinette. The introduction of the lucky charm that Adrien STILL carries. Wholesome. This was a good episode for their friendship, and we love to see it. 7.5/10

21. Christmaster- Okay, I know a lot of people hated this episode when it aired, but I thought it was really funny? Everyone skidding around in the ice rink was hilarious. If you don’t take this episode seriously, it’s really fun. Chris is pretty cute, and damn right Ladybug is the best kid in the world. Idk. This episode is fun. I’m not mad at it. Sue me. 7.5/10

22. Weredad- What? Another MC-heavy episode in Cat’s top 30? Listen, I don’t hate canon MC. The fans just annoy me. This episode was funny. The secondhand embarrassment and cringe was real. Plagg taunting Adrien because he knows the secret was great. Marinette being a self-saving queen was great. It’s a good episode. I like MC, you guys. I do. I swear! 7.5/10

23. Miraculer- This episode was interesting to me, and I think it’s still a good development episode. For one, Sabrina finally got her own akuma episode named after her. Secondly, because it’s a big step for Chloe, just not in the way we expected. It totally makes sense that Chloe can’t have her Miraculous back because literally everyone knows her identity. Can’t argue that logic. And she is the first person to ever refuse to become akumatized, so like mad respect. I know a lot of people had high hopes for redeemed Chloe (myself included), but I think watching a character fall from revering someone to hating them is also an interesting path. The friends to enemies arc as it were. Idk. I liked this episode. It was an opportunity for Chloe to grow, even if she didn’t in the end, but we’ll talk about that later. 7.5/10

24. Lady Wifi- I like Alya. I feel like I don’t say that much, and people make some assumptions because of MDCSP, but MDCSP is just a concept I wanted to explore. It doesn’t really reflect how I feel about any one character. Except maybe Lila. And Gabe. But every other spite fic I’ve written branching from Chameleon, the class has been fine. Alya has been fine. So, let it be known that I like Alya. Lady Wifi was a fun episode. Putting aside the fact that she thought Chloe was Ladybug for no reason, I like her akuma. I like the interactions we get with LadyNoir in this episode. After GoS, this episode gets a bit funnier. It’s solid. 7/10

25. Dark Cupid- I don’t have much to say about this one. LadyNoir. That’s it. That’s the tweet. Send it. 7/10

26. Volpina- So many things about this episode. It introduced a new antagonist who we didn’t exactly 100% know was going to be an antagonist at the time. This episode sparked a lot of fun fan theories for a while. Who was Lila? How was she going to shake things up? Not to mention this episode gave us a taste of plot and lore, and set up Marinette meeting Master Fu officially. Lots of intrigue sparked from this episode. And that LadyNoir door scene? OOOOOO 7/10

27. Hearthunter- One word: Adrigaminette. This episode was so cute for them! I loved seeing them all goofing and running around together. Adrien and Kagami being absolutely in love with Marinette when her hair is down. They both love her, I don’t make the rules. Not to mention, Marinette takes a big step by letting her friends be happy without her. Kagami not wanting to hurt Marinette. The drama!! Gabriel being a messy ass bitch to his friends. It loses points for the abomination of an akuma, but overall, I wasn’t too mad at it. Yet. 7/10

28. Glaciator- More MC in Cat’s top 30? It’s more likely than you think. Listen. Listen… Listen. MC is fine. This episode was the closest thing to fanfiction that we got. The balcony scene was really sweet. I was drinking the irony. We got introduced to Andre the icecream fraud. Andre the please just give me the flavor I asked for man. I could have done without Chat pouting, but the LadyNoir in the end was pretty good. I wish they’d done more with Ladybug’s feelings for Chat. Had her question herself a bit more after this one, but overall, it’s cute. 7/10

29. Zombizou- A lot of people started hating Mlle. Bustier after this episode, and like I can kind of see it, if I squint, but I did not draw that same conclusion from this episode. Mlle. Bustier just wants good things for all of her students. They’re 14 ffs, she just wants to be a good influence on all of her students and wants them all to be successful. But go off, I guess? Plus, this episode was basically just a spoof on zombie apocalypse movies. We got so many things. Julerose, Myvan, DJWifi. Chloe actually showing some depth and emotion. LadyNoir. We won this episode, babes. Sorry you didn’t get the memo. 7/10

30. Timetagger- Okay. This is the last episode in the ones that I’d venture to call “good.” Number 30. I enjoyed Timetagger. I know people have feelings about timey-wimey bullshit, and like I’m not gonna lie and say I’m thrilled with it either (I mean, I changed the rabbit’s power in MDCSP) but that being said, Timetagger was so sassy. Bunnix was cool as hell. We get to see that LB and CN are still doing the thing in the future. So many questions sparked from this episode. It was fun. Idk. I liked it. That’s all I got. 7/10

31. Malediktator- Okay, from this point on, less comments because this is the section that are more or less just meh to me. Like they’re fine. This episode was fine. Chloe was fine. Chat playing with the laser was cute. 6.5/10

32. Mayura- Adrien’s speech at the end. Nuff said 6.5/10

33. Ikari Gozen- Ryuko/Ryuuko. Gals being pals. 6.5/10

34. Reflekdoll- I talked about this earlier, but I don’t hate this episode. It’s not as bad as people make it out to be. Sue me. 6.5/10

35. Anansi- Nino is the goodest boy. Also I need more of the gang taking Adrien on adventures via Facetime. Stat. 6.5/10

36. Shanghai- This one is new, and tbh I still haven’t watched it with subs, but I had a good time. Fei was cute. The boy squad was cute. Adrien bonding with Great Uncle Cheng was cute. Hawkmoth getting literally dunked on was *chefs kiss* 6.5/10

37. Gigantitan- I love overly supportive, ride-or-die girl squad. 6.5/10

38. Party Crasher- Idk why this episode was funny to me. Kim is the purest bean. We don’t deserve him. 6.5/10

39. Desperada- This episode was an emotional roller coaster, and even though we all collectively hate Aspik’s stupid egghead, we love the Ladrien this episode provided us. 6/10

40. Oni-chan- Listen, I loved seeing Lila get a tiny bit of karma even if she made it up in the end. I loved Chat going off on her. I loved seeing her get outsmarted in the end. 6/10

41. Frightningale- My good lesbian Clara Nightingale. We stan. 6/10

42. Style Queen- I like Audrey in a “she’s the worst person I’ve ever met, I want to travel the world with her” kind of way. She’s funny to me. Idk. I love her firing everyone. She’s the one I love to hate. She’s the worst, but we love her for it. Plus this episode gave us Plagg’s adorable little Cataclysm that destroyed half the city. 6/10

43. Gamer 2.0- Chat confidently strutting in heels made this episode worth it. And we get to see the beginning of Marinette being overwhelmed. Plus it was the return of gamer!nette. 6/10

44. Troublemaker- I don’t hate this episode as much as the next person either. It was fine. Jagged is a manchild, but we love him for it. He’s a Marinette stan which like mood. The Adrinette at the end was cute. I wasn’t mad at it. Idk. It’s fine. 6/10

45. Reflekta- Where are all my Juleka stans at? I loved the LadyNoir banter in this ep. V. cute. 6/10

46. Dark Owl- This episode was fun. And it really shows their level of trust. Plus Plagg and Tikki interacted. 6/10

47. Timebreaker- Have I ever mentioned that I like Alix? I like Alix. 6/10

48. Silencer- I don’t hate this episode as much as you’d expect me to, and that is 100% because of the LadyNoir. 5.5/10

49. Prime Queen- Chat purrs. 5.5/10

50. Syren- I think the fish power-up is adorable. Ondine is a gem. Kim is a pure bean, but we been knew. 5.5/10

51. Befana- I like Gina, but this episode fell flat for me. Almost as flat as the animation. 5.5/10

52. Reverser- Another episode that everyone hates that I am actually fine with. This episode made me like Nathaniel more. Probably because I was previously indifferent toward him. Marc is cute too. 5.5/10

53. Mr. Pigeon- Marinette is one clever girl. And the Adrinette hand-touch. 5.5/10

54. Felix- Felix is a gremlin of chaos. A true chaotic neutral. He gives his uncle the finger, and I think that’s beautiful. 5.5/10

55. Truth- Bet you expected this episode to be higher. While I did enjoy watching toxic people’s world crumble, this episode still gets a meh from me dog. 5/10

56. Lies- The Adrigami was cute, and I respect Kagami as a character. The akuma could have been better tho. 5/10

57. Princess Fragrance- Not much to say here. 5/10

58. Copycat- 5/10

59. Bubbler- 5/10

60. Mime- 5/10

61. Animan- 5/10

62. Robostus- 5/10

63. Ladybug- This episode ranks this low purely because I don’t care about GabeNath, and I hate that Lila won something in the end. But Adrien saying I won’t hesitate, bitch! At the end was nice to see. 5/10

64. Catalyst- I know I ranked Mayura way higher, but Catalyst fell flat for me. Like it was fine. Wasn’t as into it though. 4.5/10

65. Puppeteer- One of my favorite lucky charm uses. 4.5/10

66. Pixelator- My favorite Cataclysm. 4.5/10

67. Horrificator- That almost-Adrinette kiss tho 4.5/10

68. Pharaoh- 4.5/10

69. Kung Food- 4.5/10

70. Rogercop- 4/10

71. Guitar Villain- 4/10

72. Dark Blade- 4/10

73. Bakerix- 4/10

74. Antibug- And now onto the bottom 10. To start us off, I will just say: UGH, this episode annoyed me. First of all, Sabrina didn’t even get her own episode. Chloe was a piece of shit. Idk why they made Ladybug the one in the wrong when Chloe was being obnoxious. Ugh. 3/10

75. Captain Hardrock- I’m gonna be honest. My apathy for this episode has grown into loathing. Toxic stans are 100% to blame. Birthday ruining, bitches. This is the reason I threw a breakup bash after Truth. Yall deserved it. 3/10

76. Christmas Special- I didn’t hate this episode as much as everyone, but it still wasn’t great. 2.5/10

77. Stormy Weather 2.0- This episode was really dumb. It didn’t need to exist. 2.0/10

78. Queen Wasp- Why did we give Chloe a Miraculous after this episode? 2/10

79. Animaestro- Did we really need a self-insert? Did we really? 2/10

80. Puppeteer 2.0- Listen, this episode would have made more sense in s1 or at the very latest early s2. Adrien gave a whole ass speech on how great Marinette is, then he turns around and is like idk if she likes me… Clean it up. 2/10

81. Miracle Queen- I could talk at length about how much I hate the ending of this episode and what they did with Chloe and Master Fu, but we’re just going to remain calm and give it a solid 1.5/10

82. Frozer- This episode made no goddamn sense. I call bullshit on so many things. Just ugh. 1/10

83. Chameleon- Surprisingly, even though this episode sparked many, many spite fics out of me, it’s not my least favorite because at least Ladybug semi-redeemed this episode. Still really dumb and ooc tho. 1/10

84. Feast- Okay, okay, okay, here we are. Bottom of the barrel. Cat’s most hated episode, and you wanna know why? You want to know why this episode fills me with the rage? Because we spent two fucking seasons building up all this mystery and lore and intrigue surrounding Fu’s big mistake, and they dropped the fucking ball! They did my mans so dirty! They could have really deepened his character, deepened the Order, deepened anything other than whatever fucking affair Gabriel and Nathalie have going on, but NO. They made it some stupid, bland-ass thing that got resolved magically in the end, then just ignored it for the rest of the season. I will never not be salty about how they did my boy Fu in this show. I’m happy he found his peace, but fuck if I’m not livid about how they did it. Whatever. Chat being done with Ladybug’s shit when they’re about to get eaten was funny I guess. .5/10

BnHA Chapter 286: VESTIGE ANTICS ARE A GO

Previously on BnHA: Deku was all “what’s the record for most consecutive bone breaks within the span of a single minute” and, without waiting for an answer, proceeded to unleash roughly 17 Smashes onto Tomura. Kacchan was all “THAT DOES IT, I’M TAKING THE REINS OF THIS SHITSHOW” and carried Endeavor and Shouto up to where the action was so Endeavor could hit Tomura with a Prominence Burn. AFO was all “Tomura would you rather burn to death or let me take over your body” and Tomura was all “...” and so AFO TOOK OVER and was all “STABBITY STABBITY” and used his Stabbing Quirk to do some Good Old Fashioned STABBIN’. First he stabbed Endeavor, and then he was all “hee and now I’m gonna stab Deku”, but Kacchan was all “SIR THAT’S MY EMOTIONAL SUPPORT RIVAL” and so he rushed on in AND GOT HIMSELF STABBED INSTEAD. And so basically THIS PAST WHOLE WEEK HAS BEEN A RIDE, LET ME TELL YOU.

Today on BnHA: Kacchan is all “sup Deku lemme just downplay how I totally took this fatal blow for you just now” before he dramatically passes out and is caught by Todoroki “BTDUBS I CAN FLY NOW” Shouto, who is also carrying his dad because the kids really are just doing it all, here. AllForRaki Tomura For One is all “HAHA BAKUGOU IS PRETTY DUMB”, at which point Deku just LOSES IT ENTIRELY and ASCENDS INTO A NEW PLANE OF FURY LIKE A LITTLE GREEN RAGE BUDDHA. But then like two seconds later Tomura is all “ANYWAY, SO” and FUCKING TOUCHES DEKU’S FACE, CAUSING THE TWO OF THEM TO ASTROPROJECT INTO THE FREAKY OFA/AFO MINDSCAPE BECAUSE THIS CHAPTER IS BANANAS. Vestige!AFO is all “reports of my demise were greatly exaggerated but aren’t you glad I saved your life though, Tomura”, while Tomura is all “!!” because he’s hopefully starting to get A Clue, and meanwhile Deku just stands there watching all “what the fuck.” The chapter ends with SHIMURA MCFUCKING NANA showing up all, “HI, I HEARD SOME BITCHES WERE TRYING TO HAVE A GIRL POWER ARC, AND THEY DIDN’T INVITE ME.” Go on, Nana. Give ‘em hell.

you guys. I’m not normally one to take pleasure in another human being’s misfortune. BUT THAT SAID, there are exceptions to every rule, and so let’s just say certain events have transpired early this morning which have PUT ME IN A VERY, LET’S JUST SAY, NOT-TERRIBLE MOOD which this chapter will hopefully improve upon!!

WE WILL JUST PUT THOSE ON HOLD UNTIL AFTER THE ARC ENDS, when they are all recovering from their various wounds and traumas and have time to catch up and have some long-overdue heart-to-hearts. it deserves its own chapter or two or three. maybe time to head back to Ground Beta once they’re healthy? “healthy” perhaps being a relative term given their current condition fjsdjkf.)

anyway but then there’s also some dialogue boxes being all “if you act out of rage your power will respond accordingly, the most important part is to keep your head clear.” which I’m like 90% sure is Deku/OFA related, but honestly NOTHING ABOUT THIS CHAPTER IS CLEAR SO FAR YOU GUYS. except for the Shouto-is-a-badass part anyway

(ETA: yep I’m almost positive this is the same quote from chapter 213. “listen, when you use this power out of anger, it’ll really start working for you. what really matters is controlling your heart.” which is still one of the weirdest pieces of advice in the entire series, but basically I think he was just trying to tell him it’s okay to get mad, so long as it’s calmly mad. like, controlled fury, as opposed to this white-hot berserker nonsense he’s been running on as of late. anyways I do still love me some shounen rage all the same but Lariat has a point.)

so just in case it wasn’t already crystal clear, AFO’s soul being roommates with Tomura’s seems to be just about 100% confirmed now. good for you, All For One For All theory!! the “Kacchan loses his quirk” theory died so that you might live on in glory

AFO does seem to have almost fully taken control now. it looks like Tomura’s still fighting back, but AFO clearly has the upper hand now if their body language is any indication. Tomura on his knees with AFO calmly holding him down and ignoring his struggles... not looking too good for him at the moment

people seem to have somewhat lost sight of this in the midst of the great “heroes vs. villains Who Is Right Who Is Wrong What Are Morals” debate of 2020, but just a friendly reminder that AFO is in fact responsible for 100% of all of Tomura’s suffering from pretty much the moment he was born up till this very moment we’re now witnessing!! like, you can go ahead and blame Nana and Gran and The Complacent Apathy Of Hero Society and whatever the fuck else from here till Sunday, but All for One is the reason Kotarou was orphaned. All for One is almost certainly the reason why the seemingly quirkless Tenko suddenly just magically developed THE MOST FUCKED UP QUIRK OF ALL TIME at the worst possible moment. All for One is probably the reason why no one helped Traumatized Baby Tenko in the immediate aftermath (I can and likely will write a separate post about this in the near future). All for One is definitely the reason why no one helped Tenko at any point after that. All for One is the reason why Tenko grew up all fucked in the head (“HERE’S YOUR DEAD FAMILY’S HANDS, MERRY CHRISTMAS”), and the reason why he grew up blaming Heroes and Society rather than the sole person who was actually responsible who was literally standing right in front of him the entire time. and lastly, All for One is the reason why Tomura has now been manipulated into unknowingly sacrificing his own body and possibly even his mind. so THANKS A LOT FOR THAT. more like jerk for one amiright

basically what I’m trying to say is that Deku and Tomura are not actually enemies here, and they never have been. the two of them have a common enemy, and I’m convinced Tomura’s story is about him eventually coming to realize this. and this looks to be the first step towards that, for two reasons. one, because AFO is finally starting to out himself to Tomura as the rat bastard he has always been. and two, because Deku is catching a glimpse of this now for the very first time. up until now he didn’t have a damn clue lol. but this is now something for him to file away in the back of his mind, and perhaps follow up on at a later date, once all of this craziness finally subsides and he has some time to process

anyway, so that’s basically it! tl;dr AFO is the final villain and unless I’m very much mistaken, this scene is going to finally start to set that up. let’s read on!
