WIP Intro & Call for Beta Readers!

Premise:

When the sole survivor of a small town serial killer swears his ghost has come back to haunt her, she tracks down the detective who originally caught him to uncover the secrets behind the killer and put him down for good.

genre: contemporary fiction/lit fic (and paranormal + suspense elements)

themes: overcoming fear, identity/being able to change

tropes: unreliable narrator, revenge, emotional hurt/comfort

cw: explicit depictions of trauma/violence/panic attacks, mental health issues (some suicidal ideation), paranormal hauntings and stalking

length: ~49k

beta period: starting around mid-June, ending in mid-July (4-6 week beta period, specific dates TBD). I'll choose betas by May 30 at the very latest.

🎊Welcome to MC Madness, a place to celebrate all of our Choices MCs and OCs!🎊

I think we can all agree that things have become divisive in this fandom recently. Unfortunately, all of that drama has led to people being excluded, whether intentional or not, from events, games, and other group activities.

We want MC Madness to be a safe space where we can check our egos at the door and celebrate each other, and the characters we've created.

There are some great MC centric events out there, and we definitely aren't looking to steal anyone's thunder. We just want all creators, no matter who they are, or which Choices story they prefer, to have a place to tell us about those fun little habits, hobbies and quirks that make their MC or OC unique.

What’s a Secret Santa?

For those who have never done a Secret Santa before, the way it works is you submit a gift request, which goes into a pool which is then randomised. The randomised requests are then handed out to the participants.

So basically, its Mystery Gift! Everyone draws/writes a gift for someone.You won’t know who it’s for, and you won’t know who is doing yours! Then at the exchange, the completed gifts are handed out anonymously to whomever they belong, via email.

What do I write in my application email?

1. Your name / tumblr tag / most used social media - a link to your blog would also be helpful so I know who you are and can contact you if emails are not working or something. A link to examples of your work (art tag, etc) is also appreciated!

2. Preferred gift rating. NSFW requests are totally okay as long as they are not offensive/racist/sexist but if you’d like something NSFW, please also provide a SFW alternative request as not everyone is comfortable producing such content. If you don’t mind receiving NSFW but would prefer not to submit it, please tell me and vice versa.

3. Your actual request! If you prefer shipping/non shipping, please include this in your sign-up email. If you would prefer a shippy request, please provide a choice of pairings. Please try to word your request so that it can be filled by either an artist or writer, as your gift-giver is randomly assigned! Please do not request anything involving Tavs / OCs / Durges. - this is a companion/origin/NPC only event.

Signups are capped at 40 people (I am running several events so don't want things to get unmanageable). I will update this post if we hit the cap before the signup closing date.

- Don’t be a butt. (generally the best rule to live by)

- Complete the gift using your MAD SKILLS, be it drawing or writing fanfic! If you have other cool magic abilities like animating, you’re welcome to use those too!

- Please submit completed works only. Your gift should be fully coloured if it’s art (unless you are specifically doing a monochrome / inked piece), and properly formatted, spell-checked and at least 1,000 words if it’s a written piece.

- For written pieces, google doc links/word documents are fine for the email exchange, but if you want me to include your fic in the tumblr master-post please bear in mind you need to post it somewhere link-able such as AO3.

- if you are submitting NSFW art, AO3 hosts art too and can be a good alternative to tumblr/twitter restrictions.

Hey I think I have to get rid of something (or confess XD) about you all wishing people would comment more on your blogs.

I don’t know why but I always feel a bit weird doing it.👀 If i am honest i only have strugle commenting on tumblr i don't know why. Maybe I think it’s because i think I don’t belong in that bubble like on Tumblr you always have blocks with the same interests commenting on your work or posts. This also depends a bit on the way tumblr just works people just in general don't comment much. Why should yourself then? Sometimes you have whole blogs self-talk here you know people read but do not answer.

I don't know maybe i think me as a normal user i don't count much in case of commenting 😅😂.

But lately i often read that you blogger actually wish people would comment more so here am i. Lately I have commented brav even if they were short but sometimes do i still strugle it is wierd idk. 🥲✨️

But in general I am a huge fan of your writings i am always happy when i see you post someting.❤️

I hope you know that you can talk to me whenever!! And I definitely see where you are coming from. I didn’t interact with any other blogs for about 4 months, in fact it wasn’t until I started posting my fanfics that I started talking with other blogs, and for those four months all I did was lurk. I liked posts and I reblogged and that was about it. So, I completely understand being nervous and thinking that you don’t fit in!

Honestly, I cannot stress enough how important feedback is to content creators. And I promise you that every comment counts!!!

I promise you, hearing from new readers is amazing! It’s great to know my work is reaching a new audience! Some of the first people I talked to when joining the fandom were @nikethestatue and @thefangirlofhp and now they are some of my dearest friends! Elriels are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and I am stunned by how many friends I’ve made from this community. I’ve been in the fandom for a year now, and I don’t know if I would have lasted a year without my friends. Every relationship has to start somewhere, and I hope you get more comfortable interacting in the future. 🤍

I have talked to a few other creators about this, and we are more or less on the same page, but I certainly don’t want to speak for others without their permission. But I know others feel frustrated as well with the lack of feedback.

For myself, I spend can spend hours, days, and even weeks on a fic. I got very busy over this summer, so I could only work on YPMG a little at a time, but the latest chapter took months for me to write….and when you are dedicating so much of your time and effort on a piece of work, it can be very disheartening and discouraging if nobody reads it and/or comments on it.

Especially on tumblr, comments and feedback are the only way I really know that people have actually read my work. I will like a post so I can go back and find it at another time, or I will reblog something to signal boost and make sure that others can see it. If I reblog a fanfiction without having read it, then I’ll tag “tbr” just so the creator knows I haven’t read it yet.

Comments are incredibly encouraging!!! I am very appreciative of everyone who takes time out of their day to read my work, but comments are very special. How do I know what my readers like and don’t like if they don’t tell me? Update 2022!

Hello and Happy New Year!

I wanted to update you all that I just got signed on with a publisher! This means that I’m going to need a little extra patience with updates on my fanfics because publishing takes a lot of work and I’m new to it. I will update fanfics when I have time to, so don’t worry. :) This being said, I want to thank you all so much for supporting me and reading my writing! Without you all I would have never had the courage to post my fanfics online, self-publish myself, or try for a publisher! Interest check: multilingual mdzs creations event

Hey mdzs/cql fandom!

This is an interest check (by @rose-nebulijia and me) for an event that aims to celebrate the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds of the mdzs fandom.

What we’re proposing

An event aimed at creators of all possible forms of content (fanart, fanfic, edits, gifs, fanvids; to name some examples) that intents to shine a spotlight on the kind of creations that usually get a bit less attention because they are not in English (and consequently might not even get made).

You have a favourite poem in your mother tongue that you really think fits wangxian but you didn’t think if you put it on an edit anyone would reblog it? There’s a line from a song in a language you’ve been studying that makes your heart ache for Jiang Yanli? You’ve always wanted to center a piece of fanart around that very specific word in your favourite language that is untranslatable into English? You have a strong emotional connection to a language and want to recreate your experience studying it in a fic featuring mdzs/cql characters?

Those are just some examples :) Anything mdzs/cql related that is centered around a language you care deeply about would have a place in this event!

Why we’re proposing it

A while ago (cough) @rose-nebulijia and I had a talk and found out that we had many sources of inspiration for fanworks that weren’t in English. Given that this fandom is centered around a source material that isn’t in English and knowing that a lot of people were inspired to study Mandarin because of MDZS/CQL, we hoped that we’d have enough company to center an event around this concept.

With this being a large and diverse fandom, we’d love to see some of that diversity being given an outlet.

Languages, no matter if they are our mother tongue or our second, third or even fourth language, hold a part of ourselves. Our hope is that with this event, we as a fandom can access entire oceans of creativity that, so far, have been relatively unsailed.

Who can participate?

Everyone! With all kinds of original fan content!

Which languages will be accepted?

All of them!

Yes, English, too. Since so much of the tumblr-centric mdzs/cql fandom happens in English, the idea of this event is to give languages other than English a place to shine. This does not mean that we will exclude English language creations. In fact, we will be happy to receive them! As we said, the event is for languages you care deeply about – which can, of course, also be English. This is just a gentle reminder that, if you ever wanted to create something in a language you thought would never get attention on tumblr, this event will the time to do so.

How will the event be structured?

The idea is for this event to run for a week, with each day being under a different theme.

For now, we are aiming for a week in November, since this is after some of the other large fandom events in our orbits are over but before the holiday exchanges start.

Do I need to sign up to participate?

No! :)

All that will be required is that you follow the event blog and post your creations on the day with the theme you created them for, using the tag(s) we will announce once the event is launched.

You can post on as many or as few days as you like.

How will we promote the creations?

We will create a blog for this event where all original creations for the event will be reblogged.

you all know i hate getting sappy on main (spoiler: i do not) but i legitimately never thought it would reach 500 followers, let alone 2,000 of you. it's insane to me. blows my mind. i think i say that every time i reach a milestone but it's so, so true. every day i am super thankful for each and every one of you who decides to stay and interact and engage with my little blog where i write like, one fic a month and shitpost multiple times a day 😂

i always feel like i'm not the typical fanfiction writer, not one that gets popular at least, so seeing how many people love my work truly makes me so happy. you guys know that all i ever want to do is write to make people happy and write stories where people who look like me are represented. i put a lot of my own truths, my own story, and my own insecurities into my writing and it always resonates with you guys - something that i appreciate. knowing that, i have put together a little challenge for you guys, and i am looking forward to seeing everyone participate!

the challenge

in this challenge, i am asking you to be bold. to be fearless. to be uniquely and loudly and wholly you. i've always thought that writing is the best way to be honest, because in writing fiction, we're all just using lies to tell the truth. many of my fics feature plus-sized reader characters who have insecurities, but face their fears and embrace who they are and what they have to gain confidence in themselves. these are my little truths that i tell in the lies of fic - that my insecurities exist.

i am challenging you to write a fic that explores an insecurity of yours. i want you to write something that represents you, faces your fear, and leaves you with confidence. are you a plus-sized person? write a plus-sized reader who finds their confidence in a new outfit! are you an asian person? write an asian reader who teaches their partner a new facet of their culture! are you a tall person? write a tall reader who is given the confidence to wear their heels in public!

these are just simple examples, but i hope that you can find what represents you, and i hope that you can be bold and fearless enough to show the world that you are unapologetically you. we all need our comfort characters, and sometimes we need our comfort characters to tell us that we deserve the world.

so write it, 'cause you deserve the world.

cw discussion of antisemitism, long post

so a few weeks ago a new study came out about modern antisemitic attitudes in america across the political spectrum. i thought it had a lot of good information in it that a lot of non-jewish people probably wouldnt know, so i wanted to summarize some of the key points on here

i appreciate any signal boosting. here is the study to check out as well (which of course means i cant really tag this with anything. it will only be found through sharing!)

they surveyed 3500 people (mostly 18-30) and had them self-identify on political descriptors, right vs left wing (on a 7 point scale), race, and education

they looked at antisemitism that displays as assumptions of jewish disloyalty to home country, claims of jewish power, mental tying of jews and israel, and "double standards" or "litmus tests" of holding jews to different standards than other minorities and marginalized groups

they based their questions on the definition of antisemitism from the international holocaust remembrance alliance, and the obama-era department of state definition. they also surveyed jewish people who largely agreed that the things they were studying were antisemitic

their hypothesis going in was that right-wing, left-wing, and minority groups hold different antisemitic views, based on their own perception of jews as an out-group

findings:

for their measure of "overt antisemitism" they provided three statements:

jews are more loyal to israel than to america

it is appropriate for opponents of israel's policies and actions to boycott jewish american owned businesses in their communities

jews in the united states have too much power

having a priming prompt about jews having favorable views towards israel did not change the results significantly

those who identified with far left were least likely to agree with the overt antisemitic statements (but about 10% of furthest left agreed with the loyalty and boycotting statements)

right and far-right identifiers who were over 31 years old were significantly less likely to agree with the statements than right and far right who were 18-30

on the questions about power and boycotting, young adults agreed more often than older adults (indicating stronger out-group prejudice)

in both age groups, black americans were more likely to agree with the statements than white americans. young latine people were more likely to agree than white respondents, but 31+ latine respondents were not (the study uses latino but i am using latine here for gender neutrality and screen reader access)

people who self-identified as "progressive" were least likely to agree, and those who self-identified as "alt-right" were most likely

college students agreed with the antisemitic statements in higher numbers, but further analysis showed it was right-leaning college students

black and latine respondents agreed more than white respondents across the political spectrum. the highest percentage of agreement with at least one statement, and the highest number of agreed statements, from any group was from conservative latine respondents (with around 90% in agreement and an average of agreeing to 2 of the statements)

black respondents and white respondents who self identified as the far right tended to agree in similar numbers

the study then, for people who agreed with the statement that jews have too much power, where asked in what domains they believed this to be true. they could chose one or more of:

1) the israel/palestine conflict, 2) news media, 3) entertainment, 4) US domestic policies, 5) finance, and 6) agricultural production

the assumption was that racial minorities who agreed with the antisemitic statement would be more likely to only choose the domain of israel/palestine, associating jews with israel which they view as an oppressive power. however, none of the groups surveyed chose only the israel/palestine conflict by itself even 10% of the time

more respondents chose that jews have too much power in agricultural production (something that, as far as the study is aware, has never been associated with jews) than ONLY chose israel/palestine

liberals 18-30 were the LEAST likely to choose ONLY israel/palestine

in no studied group was israel/palestine the most common answer chosen

young adult respondents (both liberals and conservatives) most commonly chose "news media"

older adults most commonly chose "finance"

they also studied double standards and litmus tests - basically that jews are held responsible for foreign powers in a way that other marginalized and minority groups are not

they asked the question:

in order to participate in social justice activism, [jewish americans/muslim americans] should unequivocally denounce [israel's/muslim countries'] crimination against [non-jews/non-muslims]

in both age groups, around 40% of liberals believed jews should denounce israel, and less (around 30%) believed the same of muslims

about the same percentage of young adult conservatives agreed jews should denounce, while older conservatives agreed in much lower numbers

both young adult and older adult conservatives were more likely to agree for muslims, but the separation was much higher in the older adult respondents (closer to 70% of far-right older adults)

black, latine, and college-student respondents were all more likely to agree with both, and did not show a significant bias one way or the other

finally, they compared responses between jewish americans, indian americans, and american catholics by asking

[jewish/indian/catholic] americans should do more to make [israel/india/the vatican] a more responsible country in the world

[jewish/indian/catholic] americans should be held accountable for [israel/india/the vatican]'s actions

conservatives were more likely to agree to the statements, but did not differentiate much between the three groups

liberals agreed in higher percentages with the prompt about catholics than either indian americans or jewish americans

about 20% of far-left respondents thought jews should do more about israel (about twice the rate they agreed for indian americans), but very few agreed they should be held accountable

about 40% of the far-right believed jewish americans should be held accountable for israel, and 53% of the young adult far-right agreed

college students across the political spectrum were 13% more likely to believe jewish americans should be held accountable but were not distinct from non-college students on indian americans or catholic americans

tl;dr: overall, the study found that antisemitism was more common on the right and far-right than on the left, and more common among young adults 18-30 than older. black and latine respondents across the political spectrum agreed with antisemitic statements at similar rates to white far-right respondents. this was consistent with previous studies on the topic. they concluded that left-wing, right-wing, and racial minorities all view jewish people as an outgroup for different reasons, with very few respondents who agreed to antisemitic statements only doing so on the basis of the israel/palestine conflict, and much more frequently based on stereotypes and historical and modern scapegoating

again, this wont show up in tags because of the link, so sharing around is appreciated! antisemitism is extremely prevalent and not well understood by non-jewish people, so this is me doing my part to educate
