started out with gymnastics when i was ~6 (probably bc baby me started climbing street lights bc our trees were too smol xD), then switched to tennis due to external circumstances and stuck with it until I moved for uni. Here the distances are all much bigger so going everywhere by bike was enough daily sports (30-40km/day), but then the pandemic happened. Now i have dumbbells and a yoga mat in my room and do stretches and (body)weight things most days bc all my 'things why i need to leave the house' are 25+km away. i am ok with going 20km one way but not more than that xD

i am good at learning music by ear + play flute and piccolo very well (this is prob bc Mama taught me how to learn music at a young age). It's so nice to have One Thing I am not self conscious about, esp bc it isn't tied to money or anything. These days it comes fairly effortless and I love playing and learning new pieces, and bc my orchestra appreciates me I get to play piccolo + solo parts too. I also used to be very good at singing but i am on hrt now and idk how that's gonna develop xD

I also write stuff and draw things and I do the drawing thing professionally/plan on doing so, at least (rn it's just small things on the side and wouldn't pay the bills). But neither feels like a talent bc everyone I started out with was better at it than me when we were kids. They just stopped doing it. Idk. Success through persistence and spite... both my art and writing feel extremely average (derogatory) most of the time, but I guess we will see if i manage to succeed anyway dklldkd

hii! i will be travelling to germany for the eras tour and i have a few questions regarding my trip, i was wondering if you could maybe help. i will be attending to one of the hamburg shows, and then we want to travel to berlin and stay there for a couple of nights. i thought trains would probably be the best mode of transport, feel free to disagree. but if so, when would you recommend that i book our tickets? should i do it now, in advance, or would it be better to get them from the station on the day for example? and i'm not entirely sure where should i book them, any trustworthy sites you could point me to?

yes, of course, ask away!

I'd recommend taking the train, too! another option would be flixbus (a bus travel company) but although they're cheap, I personally had bad experiences with them so I wouldn't recommend it (though other friends of mine have used it frequently & found it was just fine - if you are really tight on money I'd probably choose that option after all)

so there are two types of trains that might be of interest to you: REs (regional trains) and ICs/ICEs (intercity trains/intercity express trains). here are the main differences, advantages & disadvantages:

ICEs:

- are the fastest way to get from one city to another

- get really expensive the longer you wait with booking them so you should book them well in advance if possible!

- you can book a specific seat there for 5€ more

- if you're noise-sensitive like I am you can book a seat in one of the designated "silent" wagons (which just means people are not allowed to talk/make loud noises there) but if you're traveling in a group like you are another wagon might be best!

REs:

- take longer & you have to take multiple trains (e.g. from Hamburg to Berlin you'd have to take at least 2 different REs)

- if you buy the 49€ ticket for July though, you can not only take the REs to get to Berlin, you can also take all public transportation within the cities themselves! the only thing that ticket isn't valid for are ICs/ICEs

- and therefore you're a lot more flexible concerning which specific train you can take!

I'd add that the chances of missing a train if you take the RE route is higher, but tbh the German train system is so bad that I had really bad delays with both the REs and the ICEs akgsgk

and the site everyone uses to book the tickets is bahn.de / the DB navigator app!

Dahomey, 2024

I know its been a while my dear readers, I was again in a hole, binge watching k drama and oh yeah the Berlinale happened. Unfortunately the Berlinale fucked up twice, first by inviting the AFD- Nazi Party to the Filmfestival and a second time by fascist treatment of a the Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham and Palestinian filmmaker Basel Adra after their film 'No Other Land' won the a price for the Panorama Audience Award for Best Documentary Film... WHHHHHYYYYY Germany so disappointing. So yeah I was digging myself under my blanket or working in the library with a friend on my non existent art practice, but I made it to one film at the Berlinale. As a low budget filmmaker myself, I know how hard it is for filmmakers to get funding or places, where their films are shown, so I feel for those ones, who were selected, since its an international film festival and to quote here one my old philosophy professors: more language means more world. I wanna see and learn and cherish and cry and be angry and devastated and touched. the world of film is sharing ideas trough images. And its a dangerous but also precious gift.

Anyways, we start with a documentary I saw there by Mati Diop, titled " Dahomey". Mati Diop won as the first african female director the grand price at Cannes for her Film "Atlantique" in 2019. The film has actually 3 entities. It's a documentary showing the return of 26 Benin bronce treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey to Benin. The first entity is the ghosts Voice of the treasure, they are speaking to us, to the audience, sharing their thoughts and their disconnect to their homecountry as well as their transportation back. The voice is written and spoken by Makenzy Orcel, a haitian writer. The transportation to their The second entity is the bureaucratic reality. we see the art historians and their helpers, checking and packing the works for the transportation by plane from France. We see how cautious they are and tbh I got scared for the works and would probably shit my pants, If I was responsible for taking care of this important treasure. one of my favorite scenes was when the chef of the return operation put a little fine string on a details of the benin sculpture for the transport. The little Detail. The third entity is the arrival in Abomey, Benin and the building of a museum for the works, which is also accompanied by student meetings, where they discuss what this return means and how come from the 7000 stolen treasures only 26 get back, and how do you deal with something that was stolen from you and suddenly comes back partly, how does artworks that also serve a religious purpose and become part of your identification with a place or a nation affect you? Also what does it mean to learn about french art history but not about your own, since it was stolen by colonizers? Those are just examples, the conversations went on.

There were moments, when Mati Diop showed the very intimate moment, like the first time, visitors could see the treasures in the new museum and their reaction. The first night of the sculptures is accompanied by the ghost voice of them talking again to us in the Museum and their reflection on it.

What I liked about the film is, that you as a viewer, are enganged in a conversation, you listen to the sculpture and therefor in this film, the sculpture becomes a real person, with feelings and fear and depth, you also listen to the human world, you observe what they are doing, and you observe how they talk about you, what they feel when they look at you. Therefor I consider this film genius so longer I think about it. Its a documentary but its magical. The film was not made in the perspective for us, the film is made out of the perspective of the ghost of the sculptures, looking into their future and in our present.

I barely know stuff about yorubian folktales, but I read once this amazing book by nigerian novelist Amos Tutuola "my life in the bush of ghosts", where he was inspired by yorubian folktales he grew up in, and some of the ghosts there, there are a looot of ghosts in the book, that have this animal heads, and when I saw the Benin treasures in the film, of the kings, with the animal heads and I thought about the ghosts in the book, I was very touched, since they also say in the film: The heads of the sculptures are depicted as one of the animals. you become a sculpture when you die, but you are not allowed to see it. when you lived a good life, they will make a sculpture of you, but you cant see it, or you will be cursed.

Besides I really recommend you guys to read at some point in your life " my life in the bush of ghosts", if you are interested of course.

I don't wanna spoiler to hard here, since the film will be released in theaters in September, but I highly recommend you to go and see it in a cinema, not at home, if its possible for you and affordable in any way, I know many people having a hard time rn.

Also this is my personal opinion, but yeah this world will be cursed forever, if all the countries wont get back their stolen treasures and art. Also Reparation payments must be done basically for eternity. I hope some important asshole watched the film and will realize that even if you were not alive when the bad things happen, if you are in a power position and have access to make decision, recognize your responsibility to create acts of apology and give the stolen things back and support.

omg anon!! i’ve been waiting for a reason to post a bunch of hrpf recs, and you’ve just given me the perfect excuse <3

the fun thing about hrpf is that it’s such a big universe, so there’s tons of ships that have excellent fic written for them. the downside of that is that it’s a lot harder to get a grasp on the characters and their stories because, again, there’s so. many. of them. i normally start off by doing a quick scan of wikipedia and then googling events as they come up in the fic (for instance, the 2020 asg), but you do whatever works best for you! i know there’s a fair number of primers floating around on the internet, especially for newer ships, but i haven’t read most of them in detail, so i can’t really vouch for any of them.

i found the easiest way to categorize this is in terms of what kind of buddie fic you like, so here we go - apologies that it got so long!!

Two Christian relics in Czechia

I am from Czechia, country known historically as Duchy, later Kingdom of Bohemia. We have complicated relationship with religion. We have the highest number of atheists in the world. There is long and complicated history, involving catholics and protestants, lots of politics and bloodshed. If you didn’t hear of Hussites, 30 year war, check it out, to get some of the basics.

I was never raised up to religion. I don’t know that much about any faith, tbh.

But Czechs as culture, we have surpring level of respect towards the churches and monastical buildings and history overall. Doesn’t mean we believe, but we respect the history of any historical place or historical item and effort put into building/making it.

So I’d like to introduce you a bit to history of my country, and I’d like to start with items perhaps not so interesting to us czech nowadays, but perhaps to other nationalities more so. Some of the religious relics of Bohemia/Czechia.

So read further if you’re interested.

For now, I’ll skip the remains of various saints, as the dressed up corpses creep me out more than Sedlec Ossuary:

It was inspiration for decor certain horror-tv show, but actually it is place where some soil from Holy Land was brought to and people wanted to be burried there. Yet over time there was not enough space and they started to do this. There is way more bones than you see in this picture! Few years back, they had to take all the remains out to do restoration work to building itself and then carefully return them all back. It’s intersting place, but somehow naked bones don’t scare me as much as when you put clothes upon them. So no saints today.

It might come as surprise, but the most known religious relic in Czechia-the The Reliquary of St. Maurus, is not here from romanesque times, but only from the end of 19th century. It wasn’t public knowledge it was in the country back then. One noble family kept it on their property, in private, right until it was hidden by them after WW2 ended. Nobody but them knew of it. The reliquary of St. Maurus(bellow):

It is beautiful and located in castle of Bečov nad Teplou, in western part of country(not that far from Germany). It considered to be the second most important historical artifact in the Czechia after the Czech Crown Jewels. But it is not relic which christian public would come to visit historically. As I said, it was hidden.

But strangely, it is not the only relic that nobody knew about. And even for much longer time. The relic discovered in hidden vault in 2020, exceeds it in importance. How you ask?

Not in beauty, but certainly in carbon dating. You probably never heard of Milevský relikviář(The Reliquary of Milevsko). Hell, I lived here all my life, and I still didn’t notice it in news in 2020. At the time it didn’t really make the main news. It wasn’t spoken about. But I think it is pretty amazing find.

Milevsko is a town, in Czechia, where in 12th century a premostraterian monastery was built. Once, it was one of the richest in the country. But in 1420 it was burned down by Husits. As many other religious places I’ve been to on various trips, it was robbed and burned down by them. (So if somebody tells you they were all about religious reforms and they were all nice, just as with Disolution of Monasteries during Henry VIII’s reign, a lot of it was to do with people searching for excuse to rob and destroy a rich monastic place.)

Long story short, the monastery once again belongs to the monks, and archeological works were carried out bit by bit, as monastery gets repaired. And boy, did they find a treasure!

You must have heard of INRI, well IR is shorter version of it-Iesus Rex, Jesus the King. This litle piece of metal,is from pure gold, even though most relics or their casings are merely gilded. It was found in vault, in particularly well-hidden spot, where it probably stayed since before the monastery burned down in 1420. For 600 years, certainly since 1500 at least. The Husits and 30 year old war, has eradicated all the records of what it might have been.

But the very fact the monastery was among richest in the Kingdom, suggests lots of pilgrims came there. Yet by the time this was found, nobody knew of possible of Holy Relic being here. And when they found it, aside from the location, and the gold, it didn’t look as much. Pile of rotted wood, with bit of gold and IR letters.

But based upon those letters archeologists started to suspect that it could relic related to christ, namely part of the Holy cross. But they were wrong.

Among the rotten wood and gold once forming the box was cca 6 cm of metal, adorned with golden cross(mark sometimes put on religious relics, labelled them as the relic).

It was part of the iron nail. But just as splinters of holy cross are truly many(and their autenticity uncertain), there are many alleged true Holy nails.

And here is where this gets truly interesting. They carbon dated the wood. There were two types:

Lighter wood-larch, 1290 – 1394, hence possibly from during reign of Emperor Charles IV(also King of Bohemia), man who was very religiously involved and liked to collect and care for relics.

And darker oak wood, which was from middle east(probably from Byzantine Empire). Carbon dated to 260 to 416 AD.

This nail has at least 1600 year old history. Making it very exciting find.

Because currently, it is the only Holy Nail(or its part) which we can prove had been worshiped since at least 5th century.

And it makes likelihood that it genuine, that much greater.

Experts also found reason why the reliquary outer box was not made of something more sumptuous(there was bits of silver and gold, but no rare stones). We’d expect something more like Reliquary of St. Maurus. Instead we have pile of rotten wood.

But experts found that wood was painted with the most expensive pigment of the time-the natural ultramarine(from lapis lazuli). So it was held in VERY sumptuous box- like blue sky. But of course over time, in its hiding place it was not taken care of and eventually it rotted away.

Also, according to wikipedia, there are 3 other Holy nails which are just part of the nail, I certainly hope, that somebody will try to see if any of those other parts might have once fitted together. (Which sadly might be impossible due to erosion of the metal, but who knows?)

If anybody was interested, in future the alleged Holy Nail will be in Milevsko Monastery. They are preparing pernament exhibition of it, but it is not ready yet. The nail itself needs proper security and microclimate. So it will probably be shown to public only on special occasions, before then.

Is it worth it to go and see it? Only few days ago, I’d say not for the estetics of it!

But on 13th of September 2022 the monastery has officially introduced the relic to the public and it transpired they had the nail set in very respectul way:

And it looks like a proper relic once more. The cross it is set in, is not very large. But neither is the nail, so I think it is actually perfect size, so that you could look at it and focus on that nail, and not the suroundings.

There are two more things I also find interesting about this relic.

Vatican has previously said that authenticity of various alleged Holy Nails cannot be verified-including one in Prague, which is alegedly part of Treasury of St. Vitus Cathedral-namely the Coronation Cross:

It has not been verified that nail is actually there(or at least part of it), but who had the cross made? -Emperor Charles IV.

This is especially interesting conection, because the archeologists only started to probe the hole within the vault in the Milevsko monastery, after having discussion with somebody else about the vault in St. Vitus Cathedral(which was build during Emperor Charles IV’s reign). Without doing so, they’d not find the relic.

The vaults are of very similiar design. Coincidence? Maybe. But perhaps the Emperor had funded both the vault in St. Vitus and in the monastery and gifted them this relic.

The other interesting thing is that monastery has decided to have logo made for the relic.It’s very simple, but on point. It truly hit the nail on head.(Sorry I couldn’t resist saying that.)

In past they used coat of arms and flags, these days its logos. You know, the relic is not yet very known by christians around the world and monastery is hoping to atract the pilgrims or just curious tourist. So they have to somehow start to present this relic to the public and this is one of the ways to go.

Also its discovery also gives hope of finding in the future some other lost relics.

I’ll be honest, I am trying to promote a bit my own country.

But the story seems also amazing to me. To even get to the vault was not easy. They had to get over beam which was later added, to clear it from rubble(some animals nested there), and then there was this very narrow long space, where they had crawl and after reaching the end of it, they found it has tiny space to side, but when they reached into it-the hand of grown modern man wasn’t long enough. They had to build special shovel-like tool to reach there and clear it.

And they could have just stopped once they reached the end of that narrow space. But they found St. Vitus vault had hiding space exactly like this and it that very space the most prized items would be kept. So they gave it a second go.

The nail was hidden for exactly 600 hundred years. Nobody knew it was there. Nobody knew to look for it. Its two boxes didn’t make it. But the relic did. So perhaps some other long lost relics will be equally lucky.

I minored in Japanese in college but I’d love to continue learning (and re-learning lmao) it. I’d also like to brush up on my Spanish since I haven’t had any classes since high school. But besides those, it would be cool to learn French and maybe Chinese too. I’d love to learn all languages honestly but that just isn’t possible 🥲

generally they do direct you to the closest one for immediate care, so if you find a clinic that’s closer to a hospital with better reviews, that might work in your favor? but ik you said transportation is difficult to get so maybe not. tbh if you’re really needing immediate help i would consider the one near by, just check and see how long they’re legally mandated to keep you there in Germany, if you voice harmful ideation (like is it 72 hours or longer?). that way, if it does turn out to be a shit show you can leave ASAP, bc the issue with court mandated inpatient psych stays is that you can’t leave until the clock times out

anyways I just worry about quality because sometimes psych wards are really fucked up (as someone that’s worked in one before, I’ll say that I would never ever want to send my patients to the one I was at unless absolutely necessary - but I also work in an impoverished area and that really tanks the quality of care so I’m sure it’s not like that everywhere). just be super careful and look through the reviews for any particular red flags - patient abuse and what not. general bad experience isn’t the same as actual abuse of power by providers, so if it’s just generic low quality ur probably fine. if anyone reported the latter, avoid unless absolutely necessary.

I think the dead kids in german fairy tales/ballads/ect. is partly due to them being cautionary tales. Also, many of them are from times when child mortality was pretty high so it was something that just kinda happened and so slipped into stories easily.

Oh sure, there's plenty of factors to lead to the response of dead children all over the place in those tales. The real question is why Germany specially is known for it, when at that point in history it wasn't exactly exceptional as far as dead children goes

ok im very much in A Mood rn, so im gonna put what i hope will happen/think might happen in s3 under the cut just so if they happen i can point them out and say i told u so (spoilers from set photos/videos under cut)

ok so first off is dead klaus, weve got little girl on bike confirmed for two episodes already, a cemetary scene, and a title that is german for 'goodbye for now' so like...... obv its gonna happen. ive been thinking (even before the cryptic dirt comment on twitter) that the sibs are gonna have a sad/emotional funeral-ish thing for him maybe thats what sad allison storyboard is from), bury him and hes gonna have to dig himself back out. maybe he gets stuck in afterlife for longer because hes actively trying to not go back/see dave or brelly ben/smthn like that. oh also hes dying in a prev episode as well, because in my opinion the leaked set scene of the bikers carrying a body to a dumpster, dumping the body, and leaving all while klaus in green is watching is klaus "astral projecting" (when hes doing it in the comics hes highlighted in green) while his body is dumped. (maybe someone else is possessing him because his stunt double is moving while green klaus is still standing there???)

most sparrows dying, tho i hope fei and sloane live cus i think theyre neat so far. ben will probably live too, might be convinced to join with the brellies going into season 4??? that would make an interesting dynamic for sure.

lila time shenanigans before meeting back up with brellies. maybe lots of character development while away, even if it only takes a short time to the brellies. could be the episode opening flashback possibly. maybe shes seeking out the other 43 kids??

flashbacks to everyone else's birth whether this means the sparrows or umbrellas i just wanna see more miraculous births.) there is a woman cast as 'screaming woman on subway' and in the comics the miraculous births were shown by a baby being born on the subway. shes def ben's mom, i would like a smash cut of all the rest of the brellies being born intercepted with that, but more likely that scene is gonna be the opening to episode 1 of s3, to parallel s1's opening with vanya's mom. altho there was a berlin wall set leaked while shooting, which could be a flashback to 80s germany for a klaus birth 👀 (or luther but id prefer klaus lmao)

i would LOVE to see the brellies alternate selves, tho im not sure its that likely to happen lmao.

mothers of agony plotline, though i think the FULL full plotline of it might be a bit too dark for the show....... they might pare that back a bit cus forced possession prostitu/tion for klaus is a bit much to show on screen imo. tbh 'auf wiedersehen' could also be a line in show when klaus leaves the bikers to die out in the desert?? idk that would be fun, but i do think its a reference to dead klaus (probably from od like in the comics with the mothers of agony plotline)

hotel oblivion is DEF happening, though to what extent is a mystery. cars with the logo were seen on set, as well as filing outside of a hotel with a bellhop. im hoping its very trippy with horror elements, and also have some easter eggs with villians from the comics.

also just to get it out of the way heres what im 99.99% sure the sparrows powers are: marcus-invincibility, we got a muscle emoji as a hint, but they wouldnt make two characters have the same power; fei- can turn into/see through flock of birds, pretty much her comic power, though idk if they go full on 'change into flock of birds' like in the comics; alphonso- human voodoo doll, whatever injury he inflicts on himself he can push onto someone else, same as fei its just his comic power, but the scarification def suggests theyre following the comics on that front; sloane- could be flying/levitating/making other things/people levitate or fly too. she feels 'tied down' so flight is probable; jayme- i think she inhereted the 'emits a powerful beam from face' from the comics tbh. her 'fear-inducing snarl' sounds similar enough for me lol; christopher- we were basically already told his powers: lower the temperature and make people scared lmao.

im hoping so dearly we get some good good gender talk from vanya (and klaus preferrably but probably not). just want some honest gender talk from elliot in the show lmao. would love to see a nonbinary/trans vanya

DAVE we need dave okay. i saw someone mention a hardware store seen on set (which i havent seen??? if anyone has pics i would love to see) which could DEF mean old dave which i will not be able to handle in the best angstiest way. give me all the 'right person always the wrong time' for klave (but also please end with them together)

Don't know about you but I've basically come to terms with the fact that Viv'll probably leave at the end of the season. Sure I'll be a bit sad but I'm really interested as to where she'll go next. I know that she's turned down OL a few times so maybe it'll be Barca but she deserves to be somewhere that can win champions league.

I've definitely come to terms with the fact that she'll be leaving soon-ish, I'm still holding onto a bit of hope that given all the changes and further investment (and if we do reasonably well this season) that she'll extend and stay a little bit longer. I may be being overly optimistic but we'll see!

I'm definitely very intrigued to see where she goes next. She's turned down OL a number of times now and tbh I'm not sure she'd go to them (again, who knows!), think it's unlikely she'd go to Germany as she really didn't enjoy her time at Bayern all that much. I'd love to see her with Barca tbh, I think she'd be incredible in that team but I think a lot would depend on the players that are there already 🤷‍♀️

I'd say I'd think she'd be more likely to go to PSG than OL but they have some brilliant forwards already - I really don't know, but it will certainly be interesting to see!

Some Nordic HCs 01

- Norway is actually the oldest of the Viking trio, but let's Denmark claim the title because he honestly couldn’t care less about being the oldest.

- Their parents were Scandia and North, but Norway is the only one old enough to really remember them, since they died not long after Denmark and Sweden had “popped into existence”. (I want to note that I hc the Sami people to have their own representations, but they’re not related to the Nordics, and are for another post. It wouldn’t feel right to make them related, considering our history.)

- Denmark and Sweden are twins. Sweden just had the unfortunate luck to be born after midnight, and thus has his birthday the day after Denmark. (A reference to how Den’s national day is on the 5th of June, while Sweden’s is on the 6th). Yes, Denmark holds it high above Sweden’s head that Sweden is the youngest of the Viking Trio. x)

- Denmark is 203cm (6′7) tall, Sweden 218cm (7′2) and Norway is the “short” one of the Viking Trio at 180cm (5′9).

- Because of this many nations who hadn’t seen Norway outside of paintings or photos were surprised by how tall Norway actually was the first time they met him, since he was only short compared to his giants of siblings.

- Iceland is the youngest of the Nordics and stands at 173cm / 5′6.

- Finland is the shortest at 170cm/ 5′5, but also the strongest of the group when it comes to physical strength. (Probably mental strength too, tbh).

- Both Denmark and Sweden are smart individuals, but would never pass the Wisdom check. Sweden is just better at hiding it since he's so naturally quiet, and since he's usually able to blame all his stupid shit on Denmark. x’D

- Denmark finds it hilarious that most of the non-Nordics still don’t know at least half of the stupid shit he gets into is actually Sweden’s fault. x)

- For many years Norway was the one who made sure Denmark and Sweden didn’t get themselves killed. Nowadays he still does, but at least he has help from Finland and Iceland now. x)

- Iceland loves his older siblings and Finland very much, but by god does he wish he wasn’t the only normal one. (Spoiler alert: He isn’t one either.) xD

- Norway and Finland are best friends. Fight me.

- Sweden’s eyesight is complete and utter shit, but he doesn’t realize he needs stronger glasses since they DO help a little compared to being without them. With that said, even with his current glasses his eyesight is absolutely terrible and in modern age Sweden would likely count as legally blind.

- Because of this Sweden can’t SEE magical creatures, but he can hear and feel them. Sweden also has magic, but prefers not to use it since he’s not as good at controlling it like Norway is.

- Long before the Viking era Sweden once found a bear cub, mistook it for a puppy, and then adopted it. Needlessly to say Mama Bear wasn’t too happy about it, and Sweden has since then been permanently banned from adopting any animal without the input from one of the other Nordics. (Not that it really stops him). x’)

- Norway loves his mountains and to this day still have a cabin hidden away amongst them. The other Nordics are the only ones to know where this cabin is hidden.

- Norway, Sweden and Finland also share a secret cabin around Finland’s side of the Thee-Country Cairn. (The name of the place/point where Norway’s, Sweden’s and Finland’s borders meet each other). This is the cabin usually used for the Nordic meetings and/or vacations together.

- One time Iceland accidentally said ‘Dadmark’ instead of ‘Denmark’. No, he still hasn’t been able to live it down, and Denmark cried tears of happiness when it happened. x)

- Both Norway and Sweden are autistic, while Denmark has ADHD.

- Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Iceland are considered cousins to the main-Germanics. (Prussia, Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein).

- Everyone except for Finland know about Sweden’s quite frankly obvious romantic feelings for Finland. The only reason why the rest of the Nordics haven’t intervened yet is because they’re unsure if Finland returns Sweden’s romantic feelings or not.

- (The part of me which ships SuFin wants to say Finland returns Sweden’s romantic feelings, but it took a longer time for Finland to realize his feelings were romantic or if he even wanted a romantic relationship to begin with. If you’re not a SuFin-shipper you can just ignore this part though).

- Iceland sometimes feels insecure about how different he is compared to the other Nordics, but he takes comfort in that his language is the one who today is the closest related to old (west) Norse.

- The Nordics know a lot of languages. Those include: . The main Nordic languages. (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic and Finnish). . Old Norse (West, East & old Gutnish). . Greenlandic (Kalaallisut, Tunumiit, Inuktum). . Faroese. . Meänkieli. . The Sami languages. (North, South, Lule, Ume, Pite, East - etc). . German. (The old trading language back in the days). . French. (Was the Royal/Court language). . Jiddish/Yiddish. . Hebrew. . Russian. (More so Finland than the rest). . English. . Spanish, Italian, Mandarin and Greek. (School-level).

Bonus: - Sealand is also fluent in Scottish Gaelic, Irish Gaelic, Irish and Welsh. - As an internet nation Ladonia pretty much knows all languages which exists written on the internet or within an audio file- but he counts Swedish, Ladonska and Latin (yes, this is true) as his native languages.

- Sweden is Ladonia’s and Sealand’s Pappa (Swedish for papa/dad), while Finland goes by Isä (Finnish for dad).

- Sealand originally had a hard time learning Swedish and Finnish, since they’re so different to English, but with time and hard work eventually managed to master them both before tackling the rest of the Nordic languages.

- Sealand rotates between staying with England and Sweden, and they were once forced to use “Divorced Parents” as a cover when some nosy humans got a little too close with their investigations. Denmark thought it was hilarious. x’D

- Iceland pretends to be a bit grumpy/annoyed about it, but secretly loves it when he is sometimes asked if he can baby-sit Sealand and Ladonia. (Partly because he’s finally not the youngest and gets to be in charge). x)

Hi!!! I was wondering if I can get a ship for txt, nct, and ateez pls? I’ll really try not to make this long, but it’s hard sometimes lol.

Anyways, I’m an 18 year old 03’ liner and I’m 5’6. As for looks, I’m african american so i have dark skin, brown eyes and cinnamon colored hair. I cut my hair really short above my ears. I look rather young for my age (unfortunately). I’m rather slim and i have long legs and arms so people say I look even taller than what i am. I have large round eyes a big forehead, a button nose, and thick(ish) lips with round cheeks(ok now i understand why ppl think i’m vv young 🙄) But nowadays i’m more confident in myself and it’s no longer an insecurity of mine. I’d like to say i’m very stylish yet i can’t pick an aesthetic for the life of me.

To sum up my fav aesthetic/style, i would have to say something that’s dark but sophisticated. Like dark academia, but add a bit more of an alt/goth style to it. I like listening to visual kei and rock music, but to be honest, I love all music, even country some times.

I’m from the south of usa, so that has influenced how i am A LOT. I usually don’t have an accent, but whenever i feel a really strong emotion, I get a really strong southern accent and it’s kind of funny. I also tend to go outside without any shoes or socks. I like playing with my pets outside the most, I have two dogs (one is a rottweiler and one is a bull dog), my cat (just a black cat) and my bird. I love love love animals. I love everything to do with nature as well, i feel a deep connection with nature, and once, i even cried while watching bees pollinate flowers help lol.

My psychic said my aura was multiple shades of green, which i think it fits, seeing that green auras represented healers and earth lovers. My dad tends to call me a hippie lol. Astrology wise, I’m a leo sun, leo moon, and scorpio rising. My personality type is INFP-T. My friends say i’m quite funny, and they like to point out, “she’s really really smart, but like everyone, she has her dumb moments, but her dumb moments are the dumbest of the dumbest.”

I’m very sensitive, and not in the “i’m always crying way”. Yet, when i do cry, i tend to cry over the smallest of things, like the bee one. I cry over animals being cute, and I cry when i’m rlly rlly excited. Yet if i’m rlly sad, i can’t cry for some reason, and i’m just 😐. But, I try my hardest to comfort others and help others because there seriously is no other happiness in the world that makes me more happy than making others happy.

I like to talk a lot, as well (as you can see), and i’ll talk about every topic. I tend to talk most about child birth and genetics weirdly enough, it’s so interesting to me. But i also love to talk about astrology, space, and conspiracy theories. I’m highly spiritual. I’m also highly creative. I love drawing, singing, dancing, acting, all of that. Drawing has always been my strongest suit before i somehow got bored of it, but i still draw every once and a while.

I also like playing sports, as i’m naturally athletic. I did ballet, tap dance, gymnastics, track and field, cheerleading, soccer, and softball. (i think cheer is a sport and i’ll argue with anyone on that). I’ve lived in america, germany, and south korea, and i want to travel to so many more places as i grow older.

As for relationship stuff, I’ve never been in a relationship. I’m scared of boys to be honest. I was bullied in school a lot for being “ugly” and it was always by boys so i’ve never really had the best experience with them. I’m still trying to gain my confidence so that i could try dating.

My ideal type is someone smart (though i don’t hate himbos lmao), but i like someone smart and mature. I like someone who works hard, but not someone who’s too serious. With people, i like to have those love/hate relationships lol like we make fun of each other but we also have our soft moments. As for looks, i don’t rlly have an ideal type, yet there’s a couple things that i would go for. I like someone who’s taller than me, has bigger hands than me (mine are 18cm 😥), and has nice legs (i tend to like thicker legs, but i don’t discriminate). I do think smaller guys around my height are so cute too tho, like UGH I CANT CHOOSE.

My ideal date would probably be anything other than going to a restaurant. Maybe later on in the relationship that would be fine, but to be honest, i’m very awkward and shy at first, so it would just be weird. I find that doing something fun together really let’s you find out more about a person rather than just talking. So maybe an amusement park, or even doing an escape room together.

As for love languages, i’m not a very touchy person. Sometimes, i’m STARVING for a hug, but most of the time i don’t like to be touched. I think my love language is acts of service, and idk what’s it’s called, but just trying to find out abt someone. Someone would really know i like them when i ask for their whole zodiac chart, personality type, weekday of birth, everything.

Tbh, i’m very much like a tsundere. I don’t like showing affection very much, and i’d rather insult the ppl that i like than compliment them. Though, this is probably the reason ppl think i don’t like them when i first meet them. Sometimes i might get rlly mushy and cute and stuff, but most of the time, i’m just not used to showing affection, so i feel kinda uncomfy when i do.

the gritty realism of aftg characters speaking german

so the other day i read this meta about neil, nicky and the twins speaking german and, although it's fun and interesting, it was written by a native german speaker so most of it is pretty unrealistic - which ig is in keeping with the spirit of aftg, but nevertheless it inspired me to share my own thoughts on how these people who haven't been learning german for that long tbh would actually talk.

an accent

they all have it

yes even neil and nicky have it bc several years are not enough to get rid of it

the thing about the accent is that it's a Bitch. you aren't gonna get rid of it easily. learning a language is one thing, but getting rid of the accent is a different matter entirely - if you wanna do it, you'll have to fucking dedicate yourself to it, take regular classes with a pronunciation coach or some shit

yeah i know neil had to blend in but wanting or needing to have no accent won't really help you get rid of it. it doesn't work like that unfortunately

although nicky has been learning german longer than neil, his accent is worse bc he didn't have an additional motivation of having to blend in. usually, people will progress to a certain level where their accent doesn't hinder the understanding of what they say and stop at that. even if you really want to get rid of it, it won't happen or will happen very slowly just bc subconsciously you know that people understand you anyway. we don't know anything about erik but i doubt he's that person who will correct nicky's pronunciation after every sentence. ig nicky gets better at it when he moves to germany for good but in aftg he has that juicy american accent

the twins' accents are atrocious bc they don't have any motivation to improve their speech nor do they regularly talk to native speakers. they pronounce v as w (instead of f), z as z (instead of ts) and a as ei (instead of uh). and yeah ik andrew has eidetic memory but unless it influences how his toungue moves in his mouth it's not gonna be of much help

all of them say schwul (gay) instead of schwül (humid) regularly bc umlauts are difficult. aaron is probably the only one who gets mad at himself for messing up and tries to pronounce schwül correctly. the rest of them don't care and are content with only ever using the word schwul in both cases bc if god didn't want you to call the weather gay, he wouldn't have made the word schwul much easier to pronounce. nicky can pronounce both words but uses schwul more often on purpose

grammar

as far as i remember the twins had german in high school - and you can't really learn a language in a basic school course. nicky helped them a bit but i doubt that took the form of regular lessons several times a week so their grammar is probably all over the place

der/die/das nutella? how about der/die/das vogel instead?? grammatical genders are totally random and they are near impossible to learn, especially if your first language is english. you learn the genders of the words you use often in your day-to-day and professional life but with the rest you just kinda rely on your intuition and hope for the best. this is where andrew's eidetic memory would come in handy, but the rest of them are screwed. they probably just live their lives misgendering german nouns. if you speak german, just imagine all those aftg dialogues that are supposed to be in german, except half of the nouns are misgendered :)

mixing up dativ and genitiv? how about using exclusively nominativ for all the words in the sentence?

before you utter a sentence in german you have to think very carefully about your life choices: is the sentence in the past tense? do you need sein or haben? if it's in the present tense, is the verb you're gonna use separable, perchance? is there a subordinate sentence? bc you'll need a different word order for that. the german sentence is a mine field that can be navigated in spoken language only if you actually practice your speaking skills intensively and regularly which i don't think the twins have ever done or do. and it looks like they speak pretty fast and don't think ahead about what they're gonna say so i'm 99% sure all the grammar gets thrown out the window

they wouldn't really mix up formal you and informal you bc there's no one they have to address formally in german. they don't use Sie, it's not on their minds. what they do mix up however is du (informal you singular) and ihr (informal you plural)

fluency and cultural references

nicky's german is the best out of the four of them bc his relationship with his partner happens in this language. the reasons are practical (he probably talks to erik rather often) as well as psychological (what purposes you use the language for and what people you speak to in it have a big impact on your progress). btw he and erik probably only talk in german and can't switch to english at will bc when you establish a relationship in a language it becomes "the official language of your relationship". it's weird but this is how it is for many international multilingual couples

the rest of them are hardly fluent bc fluency isn't determined just by how long and where you've been learning the language but also by how often you use it and for what. it doesn't look like neil and the twins talk german very often and they use it only as their "private language" - which basically means they don't use it for anything. unless they will regularly join in on nicky and erik's conversations their german will get worse and worse

as for the very niche cultural references, i doubt that andrew and aaron really know any. neil knows some but doesn't really care anymore bc he doesn't live in germany anymore. with foreign culture, especially with all the proverbs and memes and old media you're supposed to learn as you grow up, there's the information itself and the emotional connotation that people who have grown up in this culture attach to it - and while you can explain the former to an outsider, you can't make them feel the latter. which is why i believe all the stuff neil and the twins learn, they forget very quickly. nicky maybe not so much, just bc erik probably talks to him about it constantly

absolutely! i feel like im a bit unnecessarily hard on him sometimes...I really do love Veneziano as a character though. he’s so complex and well written! also thank you!

insecurity

So it probably comes as no surprise that I think Vene is very insecure. I think some of the sources of his insecurity are survivor’s guilt, how a lot of people see him as being useless and only good at art/fashion/food, and that he feels like nobody would care about him if he wasnt the grandson of Rome.

Where his survivor’s guilt is concerned, I think that there used to be a lot more personifications for Italy (and the entire world tbh), for all the city-states. Because of the strength of the “national” identity, i don’t think it’s out of the question for there to have been other personifications (see the war of the bucket), although only Veneto and Sicily are left by now. This is one explanation for why he seems so extroverted- Because he grew up surrounded by other people, and now he feels very much alone in comparison.

As for the only being good at art/fashion/food, he doesn’t like that people reduce him down to these traits. I think it makes him feel very weak, or like he’s bad at being a nation. Yeah, nobody knows what the purpose of the nations is, but the expectation coming from both the other nations and all their people is that they must be strong. So Feli really doesn’t like that nobody sees him as being strong- partially because in his mind, not being strong means he’s a failure. Part of this is just because that’s how it was for much of European history, but I think some of it is also because of how Rome treated him when he was a kid. More on that later. But yeah, it feels like nobody acknowledges him for anything other than the fun parts of his country. And that’s cool and all, one does like being known for fun times, but it makes him feel a bit insecure and he gets self-deprecating a lot because history ain’t pretty, ya know? More importantly, no one person is pretty all the time, and the way people see him as being so fun and cute and quirky and all makes him feel like he’s not allowed to express his negative emotions. That’s no good no matter who you are but for an immortal it’s just so much worse, because while you may have. idk 10 years of baggage. he has literal centuries.

I also think him being the grandson of Rome makes him really insecure and shaky in his identity. Such big shoes to fill, ya know? He’s not terrible at filling them- Venice being so incredibly welthy during the Renaissance and all- but the way that Rome treated him as a child didn’t help. I think that the way Rome’s parenting is viewed is often through the lens of neglecting Romano, but (and this is a bit of a while hc time) i dont think it was actually like that? or at least not super clear cut. I think that Rome tried to create some competition between his grandsons, maybe to prevent them from rising up as nations and lessening some of his power, or to keep them from developing a strong enough bond to topple him. Veneziano and Romano were definitely his two favorite kids, if favorite is the right word. He paid the most attention to them, and manufactured some of the basis for their present day relationship- Such as Romano’s jealousy, which isn’t as intense in the present day, but definitely stems from being made to feel like he wasn’t as worthy of parental love. The way this affected Vene, on the other hand, is that he suddenly felt like he had to be perfect at all times or his grandpa would cast him aside, just as he did with Romano and their other siblings. It also created Veneziano’s need for constant validation, as there was a constant fear that his paternal figure hated him for just existing (because Rome definitely made the other Italian personifications feel like that..and other Roman provinces, like Spain and France, but i think that’s a little off topic). All this is to say that his relationship with Rome set up a lot of his present day insecurities about how nobody loves him or needs him- Because as a little baby country, he definitely needed someone to care for him, but Rome didn’t need him back. This mindset that was established during his youth is very much still prevalent, down to him not being able to hold grudges. Because when Vene was young, his grandpa was the main person who had wronged him, but he couldn’t make himself hold a grudge against Rome- That’s his grandfather and his protector, so he didn’t feel like it was okay for him to hate him.

manipulative tendencies

A lot of people think that Veneziano is manipulative, and I would have to agree. I think that some of this is inherited from Rome, and some of it is due to his career as a businessman. Where Rome is concerned, the way that he raised his grandkids was super toxic, especially with how he turned Veneziano into someone constantly worrying about what other think of him. But...if Vene could control how others thought of him...he wouldn’t have to worry...and yeah that’s basically where I think him being manipulative came from. It’s also a little bit based on Machiavelli’s The Prince, as Veneziano wants very much to be loved, but the only way he knows how to make people like him is through fear, as that’s how his grandfather did that.

need to be useful

So, going back to what I said earlier about how his angsty childhood with Rome made him feel like he always had to be perfect- I think that might’ve contributed somewhat to this idea he has that he must be helpful and useful Or Else. This is seen throughout the comic, although I think it’s most obvious where Romano is concerned. He wants to make things easier for his brother, which is mostly done in the form of making sure Romano can relax and doesn’t stress himself out too much with work and all that. However, he doesn’t do this with other characters he’s close with, like Germany and Japan- Because he doesn’t think he can be of any use to them. I mean, he would like to be, but he’s not out here trying to do all their work for them and save them from stress. In fact, he more often relies on them for those things. But Romano is at his same level, sort of, so he could be useful for Romano. Of course Romano has an entirely different perception of this.

I think there’s also some lingering stuff from Youth that makes him need to be useful, other than just you are the heir of the roman empire and you are an utter FAILURE if you can’t be great on your own. I think his fear of abandonment stems from his upbringing too, which is why he’s so clingy and always trying to please others. He knows what might happen to him if he doesn’t, and if he’s in the situation of fighting for someone’s approval, he will play dirty.
