Some Crime Sorciere joining Fairy Tail headcanons:
- Jellal wins his S-Class trial easily.
- Meredy quickly wins everyone’s hearts. She's very close with Lisanna.
- The fact that Erik can hear so well freaks them all out. A lot of them avoid him at first because of this.
- Mirajane plays matchmaker for all of them but instead of relationships, she’s trying to get them to befriend specific members of the guild.
- The Oracion Seis in particular need a lot of help making friends at first. They are so used to only having one another that they are terrible at being social.
- Mira and Erik form a very freaky friendship. She makes him special drinks with poison and he gives her the latest tea of fairy romance
- Jellal gets challenged to a fight at least 3 times a day. Everyone wants him to throw down with laxus or gildarts. He is not interested in the slightest
- Meredy loves the guilds fights. She hits you with the huge grin and then punches you right in the face. She’s a little terror
-Macbeth makes fast friends with Lucy and Levy because he often sleeps in the library which the two girls frequent often
-Sawyer and Richard love Jet and Droy. They are almost always spotted drinking together in the guild

I really appreciate what you said regarding your thoughts on Neo's role/arc in V9. I feel like a lot of people tend to go down two different extremes where they think she's absolutely irredeemable b/c she, a villain, does bad thing therefore the heroes should brutally kill her/abandon her or they think she's not a bad person and is just misunderstood (which isn't the case). So it's nice to see a more neutral approach on her esp since the latest episode has a lot of people thinking she's never going to get redeemed ever.
I do hope regardless of what path V9 takes her, we get a little bit more layers on her in the show? She doesn't even need to become a good guy but it would be nice to have some vulnerable moments of her b/c she is trying to avenge the only friend she's ever had and she's completely alone.
I want to see her be a threat, I want to see her and Ruby fight, but I also would love to see different sides to her in the show too since again, she's in the spotlight in V9.
The annoying thing for me are people who just want to use Ruby as their mouthpiece for wanting a character dead. Like yeah, sure, she cut off Tyrian's tail and she doesn't hesitate during a fight, but to take those facts and jump straight to "Ruby would be ok with committing cold blooded murder" is just a complete disservice to her character imo.
Whether you like it or not RWBY is a show about compassion. If Neo ends up getting worse, if Ruby ends up killing her or leaving her in the Ever After, it won't be some snap decision she makes in the middle of a rage. Because in case you forgot, before she cut off Tyrian's tail she tried to talk to him. Before she blew up Cordovin's mech she tried to talk to her.
If Neo's gonna be evil then I'll enjoy watching her be evil. But you don't get to call yourself a Ruby fan if you think the best version of her character is one that doesn't show that small effort to understand before she starts killing.
And I definitely feel like this volume is going to let us see a more nuanced side of Neo. If she ends up digging a deeper hole for herself then I am seated and ready, but maybe some other people should get off their high horses and stop acting like they're Enlightened because they think she should just die. Sorry to be the one to tell you this but you don't get nuanced storytelling about cycles of abuse and the nature of fairy tales if you refuse to engage with the antagonists beyond "bad people should just die."

Gajeel and Levy- The Redemption Love Story
After so long of a break, I finally figure I should talk about my favorite couple in the series. This of course is Gajeel and Levy, the love story between a little book worm and a tough redeemed villain. In terms of characters, we know very little about one compared to the other. This is most likely due to the fact that Levy was supposed to be more of a background character than a background character with some side essence. We assume that Levy's parents are either dead or walked out as she had been at the guild since she was a very young child with no mention of either one of her parents. This can also go for Jet and Droy who we know joined around the same time. When it comes to her character, Levy has proven to be useful on more than one occasion, with her really showing it off during the Battle Fairy Tail for the first time. She has never been one to be presented to be front and centered other than occasional scenes here and there and when she is with Gajeel. Gajeel, on the other hand, has become a fan favorite among people due to his backstory and personality. When it comes to Gajeel's past we have a few points about it, most likely due to him being a Dragon Slayer. Due to Fairy Tail's writing if it wasn't for him being a Dragon Slayer I doubt we would have any more information about before Phantom Lord, but we do so I digress. We know that Belno was a "motherly" figure to Gajeel and attempted to convince him to quit getting into trouble, but Gajeel being the hard head that he is did not relent and continued down his path. Eventually he became a villainous character of Phantom Lord and definitely not someone he is proud of being. We see this first hand with his battle on Tenrou Island against the chicken and dog duo who had beaten him to a pulp after he saves Levy.
Although Levy's scenes primarily focus on her and Gajeel together, it should be well known that it isn't a Juvia and Gray situation where she relies on him. I believe that it helps that Levy was already a background side character with Gajeel being a side character instead of Gajeel being part of the center cast. It meant that not all of his scenes had to be centered around her and even if they were they made sense because it wasn't shoved down our throats. From the first time Gajeel joins the guild and through their bickering it is a slow burn redemption romance that added character growth to Gajeel but also depth for Levy.
When Gajeel first joins the guild, Levy is the one who allows it. Although she is obviously nervous about his presence she welcomes him as one of their own. This continues even as Jet and Droy beat Gajeel and he takes their punches, wanting to be a part of their guild and be on equal terms. She never chastises him for being the way he was and doing what he did. The scenes show just how kind of a character Levy is and it encapsulates just how much being a member of Fairy Tail means to her. It really makes me wish that we had more information on her past.
Meanwhile, these scenes with Gajeel slowly give us hints on what Gajeel is going to be like as a character. The scenes we get with him through the Battle of Fairy Tail arc prove that he had so much potential building up in redeeming him, which makes us sympathize with someone we used to loath. Him allowing himself to take this hit from Laxus not only for Levy but also his rival Natsu shows he does care a little for this guild that he often casts aside as if it was nothing. Then we have the reveal that he is secretly a double agent which just ties a sweet little bow on it all at the end.
Honestly, in comparison to Gray and Juvia, it is no wonder why I grew up loving both of these ships. Gray and Juvia were my favorite for such a long time and yet were fumbled apart. Whether it be just the way the personalities or story were handled, I feel like it is a good learning lesson for writers out there. The way Gajeel was handled in his redemption was pretty much perfect and adding a sprouting seed of love sprinkled along the way to make it the reason he became a good guy makes it better. But even if you took Levy out of the scene Gajeel would still be a good character, he just wouldn't have his real grasp other than Pantherlily. Levy was the character that MADE Gajeel the way he is. The reason why he can care for not only himself and Lily, but also another human being and eventually a baby.
I would love to hear your opinions about this relationship though. Do you think that their story could've been better and do you wish for more? Or do you think it was just enough in the background while we watched the main story unfold. Anywayssss I'll see you all later in the Deep End!!
And hello! I'm back. Hopefully I stay back for a bit. I am thinking about adding some discussions about Edens Zero and maybe eventually Dead Rock as well since they are also becoming beloved series for me. I do love writing and going through all my thoughts to you all and I could write about Fairy Tail for days. I just had a bit of writers block and lack of motivation. But I hope you all enjoy these as much as I do!

I'm bored, so I'm going to make a list of my favourite fictional characters.
One Piece:
Sanji (I believe in pre-timeskip Sanji supremacy)
Portgas D Ace (I'm still so salty at the fact that he died istg he didn't deserve it)
Sir Crocodile (best. villain. hands down. he's so goddamn cool)
Mob Psycho 100:
Reigen Arataka (he's literally the perfect man, and I know many people on this website agree with me)
Mob (small esper boy deserves all the hugs)
Teru Hanazawa (I love his character development! Also there's something about his design that makes him very likable, probably the hair)
Bungō Stray Dogs:
Atsushi Nakajima (At-sushi Roll is one of my favourite protagonists, even though I feel like he gets overshadowed by Dazai most of the time)
Edogawa Rampo and Akiko Yosano (you have no idea how much I ship these two. I love them sm)
Chūya Nakahara (I like the fact that he has a petite figure but still manages to be the coolest mfer in yokohama)
Lovecraft and Steinbeck (aka ocean man and grape boy. honestly would've liked to see more of their antics)
Francis S. Fitzgerald (he's a decent villain. he was an ass but it was for the sake of his family ;-;)
Fairy Tail:
Lucy Heartphilia (many people hate her but I don't care, honestly. FT was my first anime that wasn't one of the "big three" - and I liked her so much, she felt like a sisterly figure. Also, she dreams of becoming a writer just like me so...yep. She's a comfort character to me)
Gajeel (I only wish good things for him, bro turned his life around after a youth spent being cruel and murderous!)
Levy (I only wish good things for her, sis helped a cruel murderer on his way to redemption!)
The Elder Scrolls series:
Vivec (cool design, deep lore master, a rather peculiar backstory)
Martin Septim (one of my comfort characters, he has a piece of my heart)
Sheogorath (I'm beginning to feel like a mad god, mad god! He's bonkers, the incarnation of absurdity - and I love him for that reason)
Paarthurnax (old, wise, committed atrocities in the past but he's trying to repent... what's not to like?)
Fire Emblem:
Lyn (badass and elegant at the same time! She's my favourite character to use during tournaments in FEH)
Claude (i simp for this man so much it's unreal)
The Emerged World:
Nihal (an incredible warrior, worthy of legends and all the highest honors)
Sennar (a fool in love, redhead mage, powerful and loyal. the perfect man)
Laio (i'm still not over him. my small boy, he deserved so much more)
Aster (the twist when Nihal finally confronts him is still one of my favourites in all of fiction. an incredibly well written villain)
Learco (I was rooting for him since he was first introduced, I knew he was a good man at his core. Besides, he and Dubhe are an incredibly cute couple)
Adhara (I actually haven't read all of the third trilogy but I have a feeling she'll do great things. I just wonder...who was she, before losing her memories?)
The Lord of the Rings
Pippin (he's so tiny! billy boyd's interpretation of him in the movies is so good.)
Boromir (he's so much more than what people usually make him out to be. I guess I have a thing for people who do bad stuff but then try to redeem even though the price to pay for it is their life)
Elrond (a king, a strong warrior, who's also as gentle as summer)
hpl's works:
Randolph Carter (I find it kinda inspirational that he always manages to get through whatever his bizarre life throws at him: it's like he's oblivious to the fact he's supposed to be in a series of horror stories - except maybe for "The Statement" - Warren's death really shook him... But then in Dream Quest it seems like he's having the time of his life. Also, I love the way the fandom treats him, he's like a treasure)

Hi hi! This is sorta a teensy bit off-topic, but I've yet to meet another aro Fairy Tail fan, especially one who is super into in-depth character analyses, so I got pretty excited when I found your blog!
I've got to ask, as an aro, how do you look at the ships in Fairy Tail without the amatonormative lens? What is your perspective of them? What's your favorite? (I bet you've been asked that loads of times, sorry)
Jerza is my absolute favorite ship because there's something so... so labelless about it, ya know? It's as far from traditional as it can get, and it's got so much depth and history between characters and the concept and existence of the ship itself to analyze and theorize!
OOooh fellow aro hi hi hi ❤ Nice to meetcha ❤❤❤
I'm pretty indifferent to the ships, I've definitely been asked a ton, but my general perspective is that 'hey, if it looks cute and seems fun, all the power to it!' and I don't really care too much about who genuinely ends up with who, whether in canon or fanon. If the dynamic is fun, romantically or otherwise, I'm all for it even if the ships and characters overlap.
When I was young, I definitely loved Loke and Lucy, because the Loke Arc meant so much to me. I also loved Natsu and Lisanna, because the tragedy she brought to the story with the reveal of her death brought so much to Fairy Tail's narrative.
When I look at ships, honestly, I see the romantic side of things as secondary to any other relationship they would have. I like better to think of their unique and potential dynamics, the story they're trying to tell, rather than the fact that they're going to fall in love or end up together at the end of the story.
Alzack and Bisca are the iconic gunsligner duo who've gone through travels and missions leaving their backs to each other. In Edolas, they're proud to show of their love and that's funny, but it stops being interesting when all they do is repeat their names at each other with no hint of their subtle personality differences, the way they meld, the way Alzack and Bisca would unhesitatingly protect each other, but are still strict enough to lightly scold when either of them lets their guard down. It was all gone, and eventually, everything about Alzack and Bisca was just the fact they had a cute daughter. They just became the 'nice FT background characters', rather than the bold and prominent duo that spearheaded the protection of the guild in Phantom arc.
Though, my idea of Fairy Tail ships is mostly on the fandom side of things, because I'm not too big a fan of how they are in canon. Nalu's the one I'm most indifferent about in a romantic lens. But of the other big 4, I adore the cute potential of the 'redeemed villain with a cute fairy' dynamic that Gajevy has. Gruvia is fascinating to me, because it's an interesting pit of the 'cool guy' and the 'girl that's not his type', and watching them grow from enemy to tolerance to eventually learning to understand more than just their horrible first impressions was an arc I wanted to see executed better overall.
And though I love Gajevy very much, it does sadden me to see all these characters get shafted for a primarily romantic narrative. Gajevy is a story of protection, so it's fine in the way I can see something important about Gajeel's redemption in their advancement, but there's little for Levy as herself.
But Gruvia, I'm always rather on the fence. I still don't understand why Gray rejected Juvia after GMG. I think Mashima was trying to enforce the Tsundere stereotypes on him, which, you know, he's never been a conventional Tsundere and that scene was hardly the picture of a boy hiding his embarrassment, so all it portrayed was Juvia blatantly ignoring his crude rejection, which set off my aro flight or fight response. Being an aroace who's never been able to openly say it in real life (because I live in a country where people don't believe ace people are real) has made Juvia's advances rather uncomfortable at times for me.
And it honestly makes me sad because I love Juvia all the way up to Fantasia. I wish the crush she had on Gray remained secondary to her character rather than become her main thing. In TOH, she wanted to impress Gray very much, but her priority was on contributing to getting through the tower as part of the group, and helping to save Erza (the scene where she tells Gray to go to Erza because she's in danger, at the start of the arc. She willingly told Gray to leave her side and go to Erza!). On Tenrou, she wanted to ignore Wendy's wellbeing to look for Gray, and she was actually miffed she didn't get to do it. I don't like that.
But from childhood to now, the only Big Four I truly invested all my heart into for their development? Jerza. Jerza is good. I'm indifferent to it now because eh, they're not really written all that well as a whole, but I love their story. It's not about typical or unconventional love story tropes like Gruvia or Gajevy, Jerza is the story of two broken people who adore each other, just desperately finding a way to be together again. It seems like the entire world and fate's odds are always stacked against them and they're never allowed to be together, but they're trying their best anyways. it's slow, it's gradual, and it's a genuine healing process that needs a lot of time.
A lot of people complain about the almost-kiss at the beach, but I don't get it. People complain Gajevy is rushed and then say that Jellal should have kissed her there, as if that isn't the pure definition of rushing a romantic development. It was perfect that they didn't kiss there, because they're not there yet. Erza just got out of a seven year coma and is busy picking up her guild's pieces. Jellal's just gone on a seven year redemption road trip, barely recovering from brainwashing and amnesia and imprisonment, and he's wildly a different person, mentally, emotionally, and physically, from the last few times they've seen each other. (All of those situations were also bad, trauma-inducing situations.) Heading straight into romance from there is just ridiculous. I love that he pushed it away and stated that they needed more time. That moment enforced one fact--- that they understand each other (they both know the fiancee is a horrible lie), like they've always been able to do when they were young and when Jellal allowed himself to be arrested for what they thought was life. It made them emotionally closer once again, without taking things too far. It was one step forward, and they don't overachieve with another step. It was beautiful, because they were healing, not as people who are romantically involved, but as two people. They're very human, in the fact that neither of them want to truly and officially get together without being ready for a relationship. I love that.
I love talking about ships, as an aroace. Though, I think what I want to see in a 'romantic' relationship is different from what's usually given in media.
I like to describe romance the same way I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi. It's not real and a lot of the specifics and logic is dismissed as 'just how it is', but it's very enjoyable to feel involved in it, even if it's something I can never personally experience.

Request: ZerLu; Zeref listening to Lucy's heartbeat as she rewrites the book of E.N.D, E.N.D markings spreading to her heart as she does so. Her heart soon starts to give out on her and Zeref attempts to revive her.
A Shot At Redemption [Zeref & Natsu Dragneel]
Tumblr media
an: Hi Anon! Thank you so much for giving me a Zerlu prompt, I adore this pairing although it is very rare indeed. Using the canon events I did not wish to alter too much so I felt it remiss for me to make Zeref seem like he was outright pining for Lucy. I hope you like what I’ve come up with!
warnings: SFW, hurt/comfort, canon events, lil canon divergent, mention of injuries and blood, angst with very little fluff (I’m sorry!!), Zeref ain’t a villain in my heart (a hill I’m willing to die on).
Masterlist
Tumblr media
It had begun.
There was nothing he could do to stop it, not that he wanted to. The stars had aligned entirely different from what he had initially predicted. Was it too late for reform? It had to be, surely there was nothing that he could do to redeem himself after all the misery he had inflicted.
The atrocities he had committed all in the name of his ultimate goal to end his immortal life, now altered to a desire to return to his life four hundred years ago. It was a foolish plan, he knew that now. The moment he had absorbed Fairy Heart was the dawning of his comprehension of every mistake he had made, and there were many.
There was no point in time that he could return to that would fix what he had so soundly broken. It was of paramount importance that the timeline continues to play out, yet he did not know exactly why. He could see only a glimpse of what the future had in store for him, but the closer he peered, the fainter the image became. The veils that surrounded what was to come were too dark for even his gaze to pierce.
At his silent command time halted and he looked at the scene in front of him, truly seeing it for its horror. The fragile body of Mavis crumpled, depleted of all magic lay at his feet. Her dress was bloodstained and covered in dirty smears. He could still feel the softness of her silken strands on his fingers, remembered how he had gripped at her hair like a savage and grimaced.
What could possibly be worse than the sight of the petite and innocent looking Mavis in such a perilous position? It was that of his beloved brother, his body slumped protectively over the woman he knew as the First Master of Fairy Tail. Even in his grievously wounded state, he sought only to protect, and Zeref smiled sadly at the brother that he loved so dearly.
Only now could he see the futility of what he had done.
The stain he had placed over the memory of the true Natsu, no, he couldn’t think like that anymore. This boy that lay here, that fought with every ounce of his strength and love, he was the real Natsu. It mattered not how he had come into this world, he was here now and that was all that mattered. Would he be the cause of his final destruction? He didn’t know, but something told him that he would not have long to wait to find out.
Zeref knelt by his fallen body, reaching a tentative hand to examine the place where he had literally punched through his torso. Blood coated his fingertip, crimson red and viscous. Human, so very human. Not a dragon, not a demon, simply a human trying his best.
Time resumed its course.
An awareness prickled at his neck, the gurgling sounds of Natsu’s dying breaths eased to a more normal pattern and he cocked his head in curiosity. Close by, there was a person doing something that he had thought to be impossible. The book of E.N.D. was being rewritten, his story being twisted and effectively removing the organic link that tied the book to Natsu.
He mentally searched for this mysterious person, it had to be someone of immense power to pull this off, but what he found jolted his heart.
The girl named Lucy Heartfilia, one of Natsu’s closest friends, stood with quill raised as she moved at speed to fill in the letters as they disappeared from existence. A vortex of text surrounded her battered frame, deep scratches traced along her exposed ribs and bruises were born upon skin that should be nothing more than flawless and pale in its perfection.
To say that he was shocked would be a grave understatement.
Only a person of truly immense magic power like his own or someone that knew Natsu as intimately as a lover should be able to pull off what she was achieving. He could stop her, but should he?
As only a few seconds ticked by, he continued to watch in fascination and he noted the red streaks that were steadily invading her body. The magic protecting the book was fighting back, Zeref had considered all possibilities when creating the text including countermeasures to prevent this course of action.
Without warning, he was jerked back to his physical body, pulled roughly by a string that felt to reside behind his navel. Natsu was slowly getting to his feet, the wound repairing itself and it was thanks to the effort of the blonde Celestial Mage a few streets away.
Zeref’s attention was torn between his immediate circumstances and the events that he longed to continue to observe. He barely registered the words of renewed fight that Natsu spat at him, his shaky hand lifting to wipe at the blood pooling around his mouth.
Fairy Heart; what a truly heady power. It was correct for it to have been locked away for so long, this was a power that no one single person should have the privilege to wield, yet here he stood in that very position.
Light and dark, two sides of the same coin. Depending on who held the coin would depend on if it were to be benevolent or malevolent.
Zeref Dragneel, the Black Wizard considered the strongest and most evil mage of all time had transformed into the God of time and space, perhaps higher than even that. The blackness no longer consumed his soul, although that was not to say that his darkness had been removed, far from it. Now he understood everything and was not blinded by his selfish plight. He could retrace each and every step that had led to this point much like following an intricate game of chess.
He was not remorseful for what he had incited, no, he was saddened by his own miscalculations and embarrassed by his over-confidence.
What could he do to equal the balance of his actions?
The thought came to him instantly, the wavering thump of a heart that called out to him blindly. An organ that was starting to fail under the stress and influence of his magic, he could help.
The white haired male listened to the irregular rhythm for a few more moments, assessing its deterioration and calculating his best course of action. He placed Natsu and Mavis within a bubble of time, not suspended but greatly slowed as he concentrated on the task at hand.
Gotta keep going, have to save him.
Please.
He is everything to me.
Words of absolute truth from a pure heart and soul, it was fascinating to hear. This Lucy loved his beloved brother, and for the briefest second, he was jealous. Jealous of what they could have in the future, something that would never be possible for him and the beautiful girl he had wounded so cruelly.
Shrugging aside the twist in his gut, he refocused.
She was failing and fast, the flames of the demon would be too much for her fragile human constitution. Zeref sent a shield of protection to encase her precious heart, pausing until the beat stabilised.
Thump thump thump.
The Black Wizard chased the cursed markings of E.N.D. from her body, navigating the twisting labyrinth of veins and arteries that had been infected to this point and decimating the wicked magic that tainted her blood.
They tried to overpower him but that was utterly foolish. He snapped his teeth and the magic came to his heel like a well-trained dog that recognised its master’s voice.
Her resolve had strengthened from the assistance she was unaware of, far too preoccupied in her haste to continue replacing what was being erased from the word vortex. It was working, Zeref could sense the change in Natsu behind him, how he was being reformed and the demon element being eliminated.
This will be my final gift to you, dear brother. You shall never know, but I hope you learn to appreciate the female by your side, she is a strong one.
Zeref closed his eyes with a soft smile playing on his lips. He admired the strength of the woman that loved his brother, it was somehow more impressive than the strength Natsu displayed. Unconditional love offered with nothing asked for in return, he wondered if he could have ever been lucky enough to have met Lucy first. Selfish of him, but true nonetheless.
In his withered heart he knew she would survive, Lucy would be successful in her pursuit and he could let out a long-held sigh of relief. There was nothing more for him to do, no other deed important enough to maintain the time bubble.
This is it.
Time at long last to end this.
It always came down to… time.
And with that, time marched onwards with no further interference from the elder Dragneel.

Favorite FT character, huh?
Acno and Gajeel. Firstly, I love their aesthetics. Almost all of Gajeel's outfits give the vibes of a 70s-80s rock singer. I could see him in bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, or AC/DC. His singing voice actually reminds me a bit of David Bowie (well, dub Gajeel's does). Acnologia gives the vibes of a suspicious guy who's contemplating your eventual demise.
Acno got so screwed over in the characterization department, man! It seemed like Mashima wasn't really sure what to do with Acnologia, but there was a great opportunity to use his character as a sort of cautionary tale for the Dragonslayers about their powers and how power corrupts. Hell, some myths even use dragons as a way to discourage people from greed or hunger for power (*cough* Fafnir *cough*).
Loved Gajeel's development tho. He's one of FT's better cases of redeemed villains, as it isn't some out of the blue redemption that seems to strip who the character is and Gajeel actually wanted to change. At first it was him trying to improve so that he'd be able to stay in Fairy Tail and then it turned into him wanting to show the others that he's not Gajeel of Phantom Lord but Gajeel of Fairy Tail. This is even shown in his relationship with Levy, the member of FT who should have every reason to hate him but gives him a second chance when he shows that willingness to change. Tbh Gajeel and Jellal do the 'redeemed villain' thing the best in my opinion. Tho if you have any differing opinions, I don't mind hearing them. Those opinions could actually be of great use for me to use as a way to improve my writing, as different people have different takes on things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Excellent choice in faves and fun fact!
Did you know that when Acno's human form was first revealed in the manga people theorized that he and Gajeel were related due to similarities in their character design? Wasn't long lived but was a popular one!
[Tell me who's your fave fairy tail character and why!]

I know what you mean by SasuSaku. I love the ship with my life, but I can't help but think that they could have been better and that with more dedication to writing, they would not have the hatred they receive. ):
Oh. Sorry I saw your ask yesterday and then forgot about it lol.
So, I personally am not really bothered by haters. My complain is as a reader who loves the story and the ship (I've noticed that in fandoms these days dragging Naruto and Kishi is considered cool but I think it's a pretty well written story with some really hopeful themes). The problem imo is Sakura simply isn’t on Sasuke’s level as a character, we have a heavy imbalance there. Sasuke’s effect on Sakura is huge but in comparison Sakura’s effect on Sasuke is really miniscule and almost non-existent after he went rogue. Which could still be compensated for if Sasuke's redemption arc was written well which it’s not. Now I'm a Sasuke-did-nothing-wrong-in-his-life type of person but when critically analysing the story, I have to admit that Kishi was aiming to make Sasuke a redeemed villain which he didn’t do very well.
I personally think a better execution of what Kishi was trying with Sasuke and Sakura is Jellal and Erza from Fairy Tail. We have a similar childhood friends situation, then Jellal falls into darkness and we have a face off etc etc (the good spicy stuff) and then he realises his mistake and has a redemption arc. The difference is Jellal’s enlightenment happens early in the story, then for the rest of the story we see him repent for his wrongdoings and he makes active efforts to contribute to the greater good, to make up for the evil he has done, he has these moments of self reflection where he questions if he’s even worthy of a second chance etc so we’re like, yes, this dude did some crazy stuff but he has repented enough. He deserves some happiness now. While for Sasuke, his realisation comes at the end of the story and his repentance and efforts and whatnot is shoved into a timeskip like so, this happened and we just have to take Kishi’s word for that. Also for Jellal we see how Erza is literally his biggest motivation for doing better and all while for Sasuke, Sakura should technically be a motivation for him but we don’t really get any of that because this part is literally off screen. So, well...

The Rewrite of Fairy Tail: Part 29 (Gajeel)
Should Gajeel be forgiven?
Some of you might be shocked that this is even a question I'm even addressing. I don't blame you. Gajeel is widely considered one of the best-written characters in the series. When people say that Laxus is the only character written better than you, you're in good company. (I say this as if I didn't already talk about him in this series.)
At the same time, there is a pretty vocal section of the fandom that still holds Gajeel's actions against him. They think the idea that he ended up with Levy is wrong. To be fair, I don't disagree with everything these people say. In fact, their critiques on Levy's character inspired me to make some changes I've already gone through in this series.
Still, I've already committed myself to keep the ships that were canon by chapter 545 canon. And I've repeatedly called Gajevy the best of the Big 4 ships. I feel that I should at least make an argument (in this series) for why. To do that, I need to talk about Gajeel. (There may also be another post I need this to exist for.)
We all know what the issue with this ship is. Gajeel physically and emotionally hurt Levy, along with the rest of Shadow Gear. In some other series, this would be a pretty bad thing to expect. However, this carries a bit of extra weight in Fairy Tail. Not only is this the straw that breaks the camel's back for the fight between Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord. This runs directly against the established themes of the series: the importance of individual lives and the bonds between guild members.
I'm not sure that fans now recognize how truly scandalous Gajeel's entry into the guild really is. It's been so long that I can hardly blame fans. Gajeel is the kind of character that you'd expect to see as a constant antagonist or one-off major villain. When we see him as a guild member, it's almost shocking to think he isn't there to betray the members. We even got hints towards that direction as he was connected to Ivan.
However, time would reveal that this was a proper face-turn. Gajeel has joined the side of good and is invested in protecting Fairy Tail. We see this in Fantasia as he's shown to be working as a double agent with Raven Tail. We see this in his fights with Grimoire Heart. Gajeel has taken in the lessons of the Fairy Tail guild.
And then there's Levy.
She goes from visibly fearful of his presence in the guild to the mother of his kids. That's a pretty drastic change, even in over 400 chapters of material.  Much of Gajeel's evolution has been shown through his feelings and actions regarding Levy. He's protected her from harm in multiple arcs. He's been a support for her in situations she's needed it. He even outright confessed to her when he thought he was about to die. (Good old Mashima fakeouts.)
I could go on about how this is a good thing and how this works for the ship. But we're not here to recount the events. We're here to question the events themselves: Is it a good thing that Gajeel is redeemed at all, given what he has done?
I don't want to exercise the arguments regarding fiction affecting reality in this post. I dread any situation that I need to. That's not unrelated to this, but I want to talk about this from another angle.
Remember that a big thing about Fairy Tail is the relationships within its guild members. Gajeel presented a direct threat to those members during this time as a villain. It's not as if all he did was capture one of them, like Juvia. He destroyed the guildhall, beat up Shadow Gear, and tortured Lucy. (Versions differ how that last part goes.) It would be wrong for the series to sweep these actions under the rug and act like they don't matter.
Here's the thing, though. That's not what happens in Fairy Tail.
Gajeel's entire arc is structured around his past actions. Gajeel deeply regrets the things he did to Fairy Tail as a member of Phantom Lord. He didn't believe himself deserving of membership in the guild. We even see how he was told to change his ways before antagonizing Fairy Tail. From an old council member of all people.
Gajeel isn't let off scot-free. He still lives with the pain that he caused others. However, he's also worked to earn the trust of those around him. One of the first things we see him do as a Fairy Tail member? Take a beating from Shadow Gear and Laxus. He deserves every ounce of distrust and pain they send his way. No one should argue otherwise.
At the same time, is it really that outside of Fairy Tail's wheelhouse to give him a chance? Makarov says that he's allowing Gajeel to join even though he doesn't fully forgive him. His reasoning? He wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he didn't. The Phantom Lord arc exists because Fairy Tail cares about those willing to join. If he extends a hand out to Gajeel, it's a given that this is conditional on his change.
Thankfully, Gajeel takes the chance and runs with it. He goes from being someone who mocks the guild to one of its most ardent defenders. He's one of their representatives during the Grand Magic Games. Not to mention, he kept tabs on Laxus and the Thunder God Tribe during the second time skip.
And then there's Levy. Again.
Would the average person fall in love with someone who hurt and embarrassed them and their friends? Probably not.
Though, Fairy Tail is far from a guild full of "average" people. Consider that the average person in Fiore is unable to use magic, in the first place. The average mage would also probably stay clear of Fairy Tail. If you look at it that way, Fairy Tail is the kind of guild that would have someone like Levy.
This is a pretty cynical way to look at Gajevy. Let’s try this again.
As I said earlier, Gajeel's evolution is best shown in his relationship with Levy. Their relationship wouldn't be possible if the guild wasn't opening to its former enemies. It certainly wouldn't be possible if Gajeel was as bad as he was before joining the guild. Gajeel's transition from hero to villain is convincing enough that their relationship isn't as terrible as its critics portray it.
If I have anything to criticize the ship on, it would be the amount of time it takes for Gajevy to happen. A year and a half is a bit too little time to see this transition happen, by my estimation. For what it's worth, I have the first time skip to play with. As drastic as the transition may seem in canon, I have about six more years to play with the relationship.

How did you get into RP?
// The villians made me do it. Axel, Piccolo, Vegeta, Yami Bakura, Yami Malik, Renji, Grimmjow, hichigo, Gajeel, Cobra/Erik, Midnight/Macbeth, and Laxus.
I
[[MORE]]
That is hard to remember as it happened along time ago when I was watching yugioh for the first time when WB had it on tv. Then I grew attached and got the japanse ones including the manga books. I noticed a huge difference between the anime dubbed and the oringal. But sometimes I could understand why they change things, but people pointing your fingers at you which were oringally supposed to be guns was really stupid. Then changing the cards, editing the millienium Rod where Yami Maik is holding it in a wiered angle instead of seeing the dagger so stupid and even editing Zork, because he looks like he has a huge cock, but they edited It and made it worse for the dub. Shit they could of created smoke circulated around him and no one would of noticed it.
That is where I got my inspiration on writing fan fiction, then I hopped on rp on forums on breaks during my internet class. I used to know how to do lots of html stuff, but now am really rusty with it. When I was in the yugioh fandom, they had a forum where you could look up spoilers, but I got into when you could rp with any other anime character you wanted I would rp as Yami Bakura and Yami Maik, as they were my favorite characters in the show even though they actually dueled against each other, but then took out the dueling part where me and a selected group had all of them go adventures and these two villians would cause chaos.
A few times I also rped as Piccolo, but that was hard to pull off.
Then I got into the Kingdom Hearts fandom on a different site and rped as Axel and then things started to get hectic as me and a friend were harassed personally just because we wrote paragraphs when we rped. However the other group would god mod a lot so it just wasn’t a fun environment anymore Including the site getting hacked by a moderator who erased all the rps so I found my way to tumblr. At first I would just scroll and type things of my interest then I saw people rping and it looked like fun to me. There was another person who I quickly became friends with and she was a Axel rper and we would rp together. Then I found a Reno rper who has a butt load of other blogs as muses and we became friends. I would rp with almost all his muses. Eventually he and my Axel began shipping together. Then he disappeared and said he needed time away from the fandom and I understood that. Then he introduced me to Bleach and that is where I feel in love with Renji, Ichigo and Grimmjow. I currently have an Renji and Ichigo muse to this day, but I only go on there when I feel muse, but sometimes other people complaining about the manga doesn’t help or even the anon hate either. Also there was drama in the Bleach fandom and it started to get toxic.
So I found a different outlet, but it wasn’t until I saw Fairy Tail on Netflix so I watched it because I give anime a chance of at least 8 episodes or more. The story was hilarious and I decided I would keep watching it trying to find a favortie character that came along. Laxus was awesome and I liked him and his attitude, but also Natsu was completely funny and so was Grey. However when Gajeel came onto the screen I just fell in love with this bad ass. He was a villain and I love villains and I have always have in most cases when it comes to lots of animes. I root for them instead of the heros.  Also I have always loved dragons so Fairy Tail became a favorite and him being a dragon slayer like Natsu was pretty awesome. Damn Gajeel was such a bastard dragonslayer and he wanted to kill Natsu. Then I found out that Laxus was a dragon slayer also. I was thinking holy shit how many are there? So yes that intrigued me also. Gajeel being part of Fairy Tail still baffles me. Makarov making it happen by basically trapping him against his will. This really set off Laxus and he wanted to take over the guild because of dark guilds besides the econsidering his guild weak. Then after the Fantasia arc was over and Laxus leaving his thunder legion behind. I went to look for more episodes. I caught up and was a little upset that Gajeel wasn’t in the Oracion Seis arc and I still hate the creator for doing that because it would of been so much interesting in my opinion to see if Gajeel would turn on Fairy Tail or not. I secretly was hoping he would because I never thought he would become a redeemed villain that earily in the series. With how hes treated now as a comedy relief and joke I wish he never was part of fairy tail.
I even thought about boycotting that saga just because it didn’t seem that interesting. However that quickly changed when I noticed the villians. There were two guys that quickly grabbed my attention Cobra and Midnight. It was during the opening So I continued to watch despite the fact I had a problem of Wendy being exposed to a criminal underlord, guild a dark guild. Sorry, but that made no sense to me to expose a newbie with no fighting experience over someone like Gajeel, Juvia who has experience with fighting guilds. I wondered what the hell was the creator thinking. How come Gajeel wasn’t in this saga at all? It would of been right up his ally. So stupid and lame. Then I was thinking he was purposely excluded for some reason. I still feel for that as it wasn’t just a spy for Raven Tail thing because Gajeel already gave Makarov the information for being a double agent for the dark guild Raven Tail. Juvia also wasn’t in this saga either even though she has been with Natsu’s team when they were dealing with Jellal. I pondered this as well, both members part of Phantom Lord, supposedly a rival of Fairy Tail, however to me it never seem like the case. It was more than that especially if you read the japanese portion of the manga and anime (not the dubb) that evil Saint Wizard Jose wanted that guild terminated, everyone dead, jealously my ass. Much like dark guilds hate light guilds. Gajeel and Juvia were a threat to Fairy Tail and Makarov knew it, so he kept them out of it. Probably for the best, but I digress.
So I rooted for the other side, the Oracion Seis wanting them to beat the light guilds. Midnight was pretty interesting especially when he was sleeping on a carpet. The Cobra guy with his monstrous snake definitely had me hooked. There was something about those eyes and those fangs of his that seemed familar and it reminded me of Gajeel’s, Laxus and Natsu. Then his mind ability to hear anything and go through memories through me a loop. Shit I loved this guy kicking Natsu’s ass and it was just fascinated to watch. Then learning he was also a dragon slayer made me think of how well he and Gajeel would have been fun to team up in the series cause trouble loved to have seen especially to see how they faired against Natsu together. Unfortunately Gajeel and Cobra only teamed up in Fairy Tail Gaiden Rhodonite which I hope in the future its gets an anime adaption. It's about the only time Gajeel actually worked with someone (besides Pantherlily his bad ass black panther exceed) who could hold his own in a fight without interference from a third party. And actually respects him.

Hehehe… well, you asked for it…
(’It’ being Ultear meta.)
ULTEAR. UltearUltearUltearUltear fucking Ultear. Where do I even start?
She was, is and will always be the BEST character Fairy Tail has ever had; counting Gray, counting Erza, counting Natsu. Because Ultear changed. Ultear had more than a personality - she was a personality. She was a ‘round’ character in every sense of the word (and no, this is NOT an innuendo XD). See, the thing with FT is that Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Erza, Happy - they never change. Gray started out a cool, calm guy with a funny habit and he remained a cool, calm guy with a funny habit. He didn’t undergo any change, and that’s where Mashima fucked up. Because he went and made his side characters dynamic, and the main ones static.
But Ultear! This queen demanded her space in the tiny, flat role she was relegated to, and even then Mashima did her dirty. OHHHHHH did he do her dirty.
But let’s get there by starting with why Ultear is the perfect example of writing a good character.
First of all, Ultear had an interesting past.
She had a beautiful backstory, and she was powerful. And her past wasn’t the typical “I’m a poor little sad orphan” types - there were twists and turns she hadn’t known, which changes her character and brings her to this amazing redemption arc (will expand on this later).
She is the strong woman trope (alongside Erza, not counting Mira because Mira was degraded) that we’ve all wanted for so long.
Ultear dresses provocatively but is in NO WAY a femme fatale, unlike, say, Lucy, who does exploit her looks; and I’m not saying this is wrong at all, just pointing out how Ultear broke all the stereotypes of female anime villains.
Second, her powers. She’s OP as fuck and it’s amazing, really, and her powers are handled well. We need more OP girls who aren’t reduced to blushing sidekicks in anime, and Ultear was that for a while. (Until, you know, deus ex Mashima struck.)
Ultear has one of the most OP magics ever - the magic of Time itself.
She can LITERALLY MANIPULATE INANIMATE OBJECTS AND DECIDE THEIR FUTURE. And while it does come with some limitations, it’s still a very powerful magic.
BUT WAIT! That’s not all! Oh, no, Ultear has her mother’s magic, too. The Ice-Make Ur so loved was passed down to her daughter.
Ultear is said to have had an immense amount of Magic Power, and is incredibly skilled and talented.
She’s also an expert at Energy Manipulation, Possession Magic, Telepathy and a bunch of other things I’m too tired to Google XD
Third, she develops.
Her redemption arc was actually well handled, especially for a female villain.
Her bond with her mother, and her realisation that Ur really did love her, coupled with her platitudes to herself that all her crimes would be reversed in the New World, made her realistic.
Ultear was a broken and damaged and angry and mean woman, and she should’ve gotten more space to be mean and angry and broken, and to heal.
Ultear was redeemed in a very good way because her ‘never actually evil’ stuff was - A) the first of many to come in FT, so it was refreshing until Mashima overdid it, and
B) she had a reason to be angry.
She was hurt and mad and even then she didn’t want to hurt anyone. She was just looking for a way to make a new world, one where everyone could be happy.
Ultear is kind without being kind - she didn’t have to adopt Meredy. She didn’t have to feel guilty about the stuff she did because she underwent enough to become bitter and furious. But her conscience remained alive in the most realistic and beautiful way.
Her personality traits are interesting. She doesn’t become this totally innocent, sweet girl after her redemption: she retains her snarky and mildly sadistic nature. She does become more openly kind, which is to be expected on any redemption. But it was very refreshing to see that!
Now! Let’s talk about how dirty Mashima did my queen.
WHAT THE FUCK. Was the crap with saving Gray?! In my opinion, Gray should’ve died.
Yes, I just said that. The girl who has a blog dedicated to Gray just said that.
Gray should have died because then - at least then - Juvia might have had some personality. And you know what? I’m okay with sacrificing my guys for the girls. Because all the girls of FT were screwed over by Dickshima.
Anyways, I’m going off topic, so… yeah. Ultear.
Last Ages did not need to have that catch of aging. It did not need to be a single-use power with consequences, and it certainly didn’t have to be used then. Hell, Ultear has a fuckton of powers she could use to save everyone! She can literally change the time of the inanimate objects, cause a landslide or whatever. Possession magic: could have been used to possess the monsters and stop them from killing everyone. But no, Mashima wanted her out of the way because she was too interesting. She was too good, and she was taking over the plotline, and that couldn’t happen, now could it?
Now let’s imagine a scenario where Gray actually dies. Where he doesn’t come back, where Meredy stops Ultear from using Last Ages. Where Ultear uses a different magic in her unique and clever way to protect everybody.
Juvia would’ve grown to love herself and let go of her infatuation. She’d be able to use her full powers. And Ultear would be able to learn what Gray did on Galuna - to value herself and her life.
It’s the best lesson which she was never able to learn; and did we really need that parallel of Ur and her daughter both sacrificing themselves for Gray? Wouldn’t it have been way more poetic if it came full circle, with Ur going for Gray and Gray for Ultear?
Ultear was just drop kicked out of the narrative. She was given so much crap, and the funniest part is she’s the best character in Fairy Tail, writing wise. By Mashima standards, she’s astronomically amazing. Mashima started out trying to do with Gray what he ended up doing with Ultear, and failed miserably on both counts - one with keeping an MC dynamic, and two with keeping Ultear flat and sidelined. He didn’t think he had a choice: but I think he did. I think he could’ve chosen to shift Ultear gently to the sidelines while still letting her be an important part of the story. Ultear is useful as hell, has a beautiful design, and is just the  perfect character.
tl;dr: Mashima should be kicking himself for doing Ultear dirty the way he did. She’s an amazing, nuanced character who was way better than any of the MCs, and I say this as a huge Gray fan.

5, 12, and 17? for the fandom asks
5. what is your favorite overused trope?
honestly i love that the main character in nearly every magical girl show is the pink one. i love pink, what can i say?
12. if you could change one ending to a book/show/game/etc, what would you change about it?
the only thing i could think of is the wolf among us because it ended on a big reveal cliffhanger for years but there’s finally a season 2 being made so i’m hopeful it’ll have a better ending
17. are there any tropes you wished were used less often?
i’m not sure how common it actually is, but in a lot of the things i’ve watched it bugs me when a character is a villain who does genuinely bad things and they’re suddenly ‘redeemed’, which actually means they’ve done nothing to make up for their actions or show they’ve changed (for example: starlight glimmer, the diamonds in su, many fairy tail characters). even worse if they have some excuse like one bad thing happened to them as a child or they were very very sad so they weren’t really at fault
this isn’t including characters who were being mind controlled or forced to do bad things in some way, or didn’t know the full consequences of their actions and stopped when they found out
basically i love actual redemption arcs but i don’t like when a writer goes ‘actually they’re good now because redemption arc now you have to like them and all the characters forgive them’

On a different note, Echo/Jellal. How did that happen & why do you like it?
JECHO!!! Okay, strap in - it’s story time!
My background with Fairy Tail is that I was interested in it, and I watched the original Netflix run of just the first 50 episodes (Japanese w/subs), after which I decided, “I have had enough Fairy Tail. I want to do other fandoms now.” But during that time, Jellal became the clear favorite. He had all the clichés I liked in villains, but probably the most prime anime/manga-exclusive example I know. Flamboyance, complex intellectual gambit, likes to taunt his foes, cool celestial magic motifs, obsession, playing the game against himself, having a disguise alter ego - he was FUN. But then I learned that later on, he did indeed redeem, and I figured he would be cool enough, but I wasn’t patient enough to watch any more of the anime at the time. Because I did figure he’d be more well-rounded as a hero, I kind of dropped the idea of him being my favorite anime villain.
So then I watch Wakfu S3 and I hate it. But one of the things that BROKE me was how Echo and Oropo were set up as this Partners in Crime relationship only for it to turn out Oropo was stalking Amalia the whole dang time and Echo was left broken. At which point SHE went and redeemed, which was...cool, I guess, but she made such a great villain, especially with the novelty of being a healer.
Anyway, I sit on Fairy Tail for a while and suddenly realize...I don’t have to LIKE Jellal reforming or even engage in that content. That’s what AUs are for. I want my favorite anime villain back, so I want to see how he was when he caught my attention in the first place. I then went and rewatched only the Tower of Heaven arc, dub this time. And by the way, while I wouldn’t call Jellal’s VA fantastic, hearing him in English did prove to me that he’s my sort, if that makes sense. Anyway, I fell in love with him all over again - but I’m on the heels of Wakfu, and I realize something.
Both Jellal and Echo have built immense towers filled with gauntlets of warriors in order to achieve something cosmically impossible. Jellal was chasing Erza but ultimately threw her away to be his sacrifice. Echo had Oropo, but he ditched her for the woman he’d been chasing. Also, Echo was duped by Oropo in many respects while Jellal was duped by Ultear pretending to be Zeref.
So then I think...what if...?
What if they built another tower? What if they were the team this time, and they didn’t trust each other - Echo thought this would just be another Oropo case where Jellal would throw her aside for Erza? What if they wanted to go back to their more selfish ways and not, in fact, be the weird sibling to the hero team? What if they got to liking each other while scheming at the top of that new Tower of Heaven, and they became each other’s missing piece?
At which point I made the edit you saw, but also this one I like better
Tumblr media
Anyway that’s the story of Jecho and I still think it’s super cute and I prefer a villain AU but the fact that they do both kindasorta redeem means seeing them as antiheroes making their way through their past mistakes together is also ultra valid

So, I noticed some discourse going on about Endeavour again, especially concerning people with rp the Todoroki siblings atm. I’m not going to call anyone out about this, but I want to put my two cents in and reiterate a post I made about this some time ago.
So, like most people when first reading the manga of Boku no Hero Academia, I hated Endeavor. But with recent chapters that involve Enji I’ve started to become very fond of his character. He was originally built in a way to make you want to hate him, as most would when it comes to an antagonist that isn’t necessarily a villain. The intent of the character is for you hate him as a plot devise to Shouto’s own development originally in the sports festival arc. He’s a villain in his own right when it comes to certain things in his past and what he has done, but I’m really glad he gets the chance to redeem himself.
Personally, I think I’ve always had a thing about redeemed characters being one of my favorite character tropes/archtypes. First Gajeel from Fairy Tail. There is still controversy in the fandom about him and whether her and Levy should be together, but through development and building trust with others, he redeemed himself and even became her lover. Then there is Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer from MLP. Ponies who in all circumstances should not have been forgiving for their misdeeds, but people found the strength to forgive, forget and grow to love them.
Now Endeavor is becoming a redemption character. Yes, what he has done in the past makes him a total piece of shit and there are some things he probably shouldn’t be forgiven for, but he’s trying to make up for it and really that reminds me of my mother. My mother was an alcoholic and the things she did to me and my siblings were awful, but guess what? She changed and we eventually forgave her. It took quite a few years, but she changed and we forgave her.
People deserve second chances and to see such character depth and development really attracts me to those type of characters. All their hardships, their journey, and their struggle to become a better person is my shit.
Now that doesn’t mean he should be forgiven right away or anything. It took a long time for the others that I listed above to be truly forgiven for what they did as well. But I think Endeavor deserves a chance to change. To be the hero his family can be proud of, a father his wife and children aren’t afraid of, to be better for himself after losing sight of who he was and wanted to be.
