Ahem,,,, if it is alright with you then,,,,,, I will talk about my OMARI Basil then,,,,
To answer your question, he was planned to be the delinquent of the group (as per typical swap aus), though over time, I really began to sit down and think about it the more swap aus began to pop up around the fandom. I didn't really like the idea of being a carbon copy of various other omari aus in specific, so during the time I have been absent on here I began to slowly revamp the AU over time. I had to start over with what I originally had in the first place since a lot of the au things in my take on it also had contributions by followers as well!
For Basil, his first concept was initially a delinquent take... but the thing that caused a problem with that was the fact that I had planned for him to also play a sort of "detective" role in this universe, as I had written a short snippet on Basil having caught on to something suspicious going on between the older siblings and Sunny's sudden disappearance.......
Frankly, as much as a delinquent Basil is my darling concept of all concepts, I had to, unfortunately, push it to the side and alter his role in this AU to fit with the revamped look I was going for him... therefore fully integrating him into his "detective" role. In a way though, looking through Mari's perspective, he's sort of a clashing force with her and is equivalent to an antagonist in her own story (but! Keep in mind, Mari in this AU isn't the Mari who you should be sympathizing for.... an unreliable narrator who happens to be a wolf in sheeps clothing....).
As for the emotions, while a lot of people tend to view the emotions being assigned to the characters as their possible role in RW (the happy-go-lucky, the perfect student, the delinquent), for mine I ended up making it were each friend had 2 main emotions.... Basils would be anger and sorrow (Aubrey and Kel tend to have anger as their second emotion, though that is still up for debate! I still have a few things to work out :3). So, in a way you could say that in Headspace they were only ever seen as a one-dimensional character by Mari/Hikkiko, while in the real world, they had a even bigger "mess" of emotions that they all dealt with. In turn, Basil's concept strayed further away from the path of delinquent and more into a path which.... ehehe..... obsession as a concept is such a fun thing to play around with, don't you think?
Just as much as he plays the "investigator", he also is meant to be a parallel of what Mari/Hikkiko is. Obsession has always been a part of his character, and in doing so, you could say I played around with it until I found quite a nice concept with this. Mari/Hikkiko both have a need to keep Sunny around as the perfect brother and therefore paint his Headspace counterpart to their own liking.... while Basil in turn has, on some level, a need to imitate Sunny as closely as he can. Both are a form of obsessions I have given them, and in a way, the only reason Basils is a more "lighter" version of this is because Aubrey, Kel, Hero (sort of), Polly, his grandmother, and Faraway Town as a whole have been there to guide him on a better path. Though his obsession to keep Sunny's memory alive by becoming like him is still there, it's not to say that he doesn't have people to talk some sense into him-- meanwhile Mari does not have that type of support.
Obsession stems from love, at least, in their case. And in the end, it really depends on whether or not they have people who are willing to reel them back into a state of sanity. Basil was, at least in terms of my omari lore, viewed as a delinquent at one point, though he never acted out aggressively towards others unless provoked enough and only ever kept to himself.... eventually the town residents accepted the fact that this was just his way of grieving and treated him with patience and respect, especially with the fact he took it upon himself to go around town and helping around with the little things, though especially with gardening and photography.
it's not to say though, that he doesn't have some... worrying habits. That as in, most of his plants being replaced with tulips and most of the heads of certain plants being chopped off with garden shears, left to rot. While Basil mimics his best friends habits, he isn't exactly the best at fully hiding his feelings and emotions as Sunny was able to. No amount of masquerading will change the fact that once he's laid his sights on you, it'll only be a matter time before he seeks for your head on a silver platter.

Ideas: Gotta Catch 'Em All!
(look, I know one whole Pokemon reference and I'm gonna use it.)
I was tossing around ideas with @calypsid about writing events and coming up with ideas and how to write for big events - in fandom, for the monthlong ones especially, but also if you're someone looking at submitting original fiction to a themed anthology or to a zine, or when you just want to WRITE dammit but the ideas won't come.
When the idea hutch is empty and the plotbuns won't come, when the creative spring is trickling or you're at the bottom of the well of inspiration, hope is not lost. We put our heads together and came up with a baker's dozen ways to get ideas and look at prompts to get new inspiration when you need it.
So if you want 'em, jump below the cut!
Stop looking at words.
Look at art! Listen to music! Maybe what you need is some song lyrics to get your brain going, or art. Play Sudoku. Go to a coffee shop and watch people. Change your mental or physical environment and see what happens.
Prompt lists
Don’t limit yourself to whatever event you’re writing for! If it’s for a fandom ship week, hit up a themed month prompt list (such as Fluffuary, AUgust, or Whumptober). If you’re trying to think of ideas for a zine pitch, trawl prompt lists from fandom or creative writing websites. Mash the TVTropes random trope button until something clicks.
Tarot spreads
Even if you don’t read tarot on your own, you can find websites where you can do tarot readings. Treat it as a story prompt generator: pick three cards, one that is your protagonist, one that is their goal, one that is their obstacle. Look up the meanings. Go wild! You can use the cards for protagonists, antagonists, story arcs…
Lists
Not prompt lists - but every idea you can think of adjacent to a prompt. Tropes, colors, sayings, characters, types (e.g. species of apple, types of wildflowers, names of cocktails)...
An alphabetical list with an idea for each letter of the alphabet.
A list of 20 ideas, as close or as absolutely wild as you want.
A timed list (write ideas for 5/10/15 minutes). The first chunk may be easy, the last few minutes impossibly hard, but right in the middle where your mind is starting to stretch? That may be perfect.
Once you have a list of any flavor, start looking for patterns: that’s a sign your brain is interested in SOMETHING. What ideas/symbols keep showing up?
Look for unexpected intersections
Ideas or prompts may have unexpected links. Randomize your list! Consider resonances between different prompts; they may seem different in a different order. Pick a not obvious combination of two prompts and follow it to the end - what if you put together “pirate” and “arranged marriage”? Use a wheel spinning picker and see what two things the computer matches up.
You can also take a pair of commonly-associated opposites, pick out their most common stereotypical traits. Now swap them.
Play with other media
Take characters from one piece of media, the setting from a second (hey look, a fusion/AU!). What resonates between them? Grab a non-fiction book about a topic you’re interested in and read that. Ideas might percolate from a number of unrelated sources into one Super Cool Idea.
Change the setting
Turn a sci-fi show into a fantasy setting, or vice-versa. Add monsters. Add gods; add gods with reality-bending dice; add gods with reality-bending dice who are malicious. Flip your characters' genders. Remove the concept of gender entirely. Send your characters to the dimension next door, where only one thing has changed. Or many things. Or everything. Take the characters out of the plot of your fandom, or replace them with side characters; what changes?
Change your mind
Take the prompt at face value. Or, treat it sarcastically. Subvert the trope - or don't subvert the trope. Write the thing you've always wanted to see, even if you think it won't work. Turn everything about the prompt on its head and look underneath for spare ideas. Come at it from every angle you can think of.
Other people
Talk to people about the prompt. Read Reddit or Tumblr conversations, even ones only vaguely associated with the prompt. Let your mind go in new and interesting directions.
Cool words
Have you run across an awesome word you wish you could use in a story, or a turn of phrase? Write a story around that. Or if you have a list of cool words you keep anyway, flip back to it, see if there are any that might come together in a story.
Titles
If you have a title you've always wanted to use, let the title inspire the fic instead of the other way around.
First Sentences
Just start writing first sentences, whatever ones come to mind. Don’t be precious about them; the goal isn’t perfect sentences, the goal is something to get your brain moving. Don’t worry about continuing the story yet! Try and get a bunch down without writing any more of the story. If one speaks to you and demands to be written, go back to it after you’ve got your list down.
Deconstruct a story you love and then rebuild it!
Retell a favorite story (or a hated story you thought you could do better). How did they do X? Why did you love (or hate) something so much? Can you do that with some of your ideas? Take out the main character and their sidekick; how does the story read with just the secondary characters? What if you add someone new? How would the story look different as a documentary, a chatfic, an epistolary collection?

Hey there! I have a bit of an unusual question for you, but I'm curious to know if you have a favorite or least favorite type of Alternate Universes. I'm not referring to any particular fandom, but just in general. Personally, I'm not really into the "Opposite" or "Swap personality" AUs that tends to be one of the most popular and picked in fanbases or other media explore. It's just not my cup of tea, you know? But I'm interested in hearing your thoughts!
Ooo, I like this ask! I will happily answer as this one really got me thinking.
Personally, I am not a fan of swap AUs either, I think the one exception was 2015-2016 Undertale when I was a teen and the fandom was lively. Other than that I have not seen any fandom do this AU well at all. The same can be said about Soulmate AUs. While a lot of fics written for them are sweet, they do get boring and predictable. I guess I'm a reader that prefers unique experiences in fanfictions. I really like it when I see other writers use as much creativity as possible when making an AU or writing a fanfiction. It's even better when I read a fanfiction that not only adds onto the characters, but a writer who does an excellent job at keeping everyone in character.
But there are certain AUs I will actively avoid out of experience, and those AUs are usually horror and NSFW AUs. It's not that they scare or disgust me, it's the issue that they often attract people who are not well.
Every fandom has a sub-group of bad apples, but it's those AUs that really bring them out. I do see that the creators of these AUs are okay and mature enough to be making the serious topics taken seriously, but it's usually certain individuals that ruin things by making fanfics off of it or fanart. Way too many times I've read a fic with no warnings for AUs like that. Or at the very least, they do give warnings, just not proper ones. However, at least once, I think it was in the Overwatch fandom (not Overwatch 2, I mean Overwatch from around 2016-2019), that I came across a very well done monster AU of sorts. It had a healthy community going around it and any horror fics based on it were handled with maturity and taken seriously. Not to mention some of the fanfictions really gave me a good scare. That is what I love to see with writers and AUs.
Now, for my absolute favorites?
I am so in love with aquatic mythology AUs with the exception of mermaid AUs. Many Mermaid AUs tend to be picked a lot much like how you mentioned swap AUs being the same, usually that results in a bunch of fanfictions being similar or the exact same. I love AUs that have unique or exotic mythology for the AU. I guess a good example would be my Finfolk AU. That was inspired after I read an Orkney folklore storybook. It's nothing like mermaids and the folklore surrounding it can be changed to match whatever setting I want.
Some of the most notable ones I've read were semi-horror romance fanficions based on siren AUs. I also notice that people who write these fanfictions also take great care to research their sources or come up with new features to sirens that makes sense for the universe they are in. I could rant on about it, but I'll be here all night if I do. I hope this answer is satisfactory!

I wrote a Voldemort Wins AU (The Boy Who Died) four years ago and I'd love to see more stories or art exploring that AU. There are so many juicy directions one can take it and I love me some angst. (I think there's been a few fics featuring a Voldemort Wins AU since I wrote TBWD, I should prob go track them down.) I know Voldemort Wins AU is a hard-sell, dystopian settings aren't what drarry fans tend to flock to, but I'm very much here for it.
14. the ship that always makes you smile
Oh that's actually a hard one, because drarry authors explore so many combinations of ships and rarepairs and it's very tough to choose. Also, although I love some rarepairs a normal amount, they often don't make me smile as such (prongsfoot is mostly about the angst and the sex, for example).
But you know who makes me smile, even now as I'm thinking about them? Luna and Neville. He's incredibly shy and awkward and she doesn't give a fuck about conventions: they're the cutest.

Fandom has made a huge, real life difference to my life. I know I'm a bit absent now because I've learned that less is more (for me) regarding the time I spend on fandom, but the benefits have been immense.
First and foremost, I've made some very good friends. I've met several of them in real life too. I spent 4 days in Bologna with a fandom pal. I have people I chat to fairly regularly and I know I can rely on them for writing advice or just to be there when I need to vent.
Second, before fandom, I'd been writing original for a long time. Although I'd written a few short stories, I struggled with finishing a longer fic. I thought I'd never be able to do it. And lo and behold, when I fell into drarry, I completed a 36k fic! The longest completed work I'd managed back then. It gave me the confidence to know that I can finish longer works, I'm not incapable of it. I also learned what kind of writer I am. When I wrote original, I was inexperienced and I consulted a lot of websites about writing advice which is all SHIT (ask me about it) and it was one of the main reasons I'd struggled. But fanfic took the pressure of this-will-be-seen-by-agents-so-it'd-better-be-perfect. I wrote for fun and discovered my writing process along the way. This was an invaluable gift.
Third and equally important, being in fandom and writing fanfic in the heyday of a super popular ship gave me the recognition I was starved for. Writing alone in a solitary room can make one doubt whether she's any good or whether she's kidding herself. But receiving comments on my stories, knowing hundreds of eyes have seen them, possibly thousands, gave me the warmth and joy and reassurance that perhaps, if I am lucky and try hard, I can touch some people's hearts. That my writing isn't ridiculous or a waste of time or that I'm kidding myself. Again: an invaluable gift.

In general: After being on the outside looking in with Tumblr for a long time, I finally joined somewhere around the midpoint this year. I was kind of active for a month before major events in both my family and long-standing hobbies made me disappear. The me from even a few months beforehand probably would have never come back…but I did, and I couldn’t be more grateful for it. It’s just really fun to be on here, in a way I haven’t experienced for a while—so, if you're reading this, whether we actively talk or not? You’ve contributed to that. Thank you.
Drea @shes-a-voodoo-child: I knew you first as a brilliant writer, but little did I know that you were also a gracious member of fandom/Tumblr, even to someone like me who blundered into a cold call (thank you for not immediately blocking my empty blog, haha!) Nowadays, though, I know you first and foremost as someone I’m glad to call my friend—even if I must admit I still look up to you with stars in my eyes. I only wish I had more interesting things to talk about with you, because I really enjoy whenever we chat things like music or wrestling!
El @spaghettisaurusrex: Honestly, at first I thought you were too cool for me—you teach swordfighting, for God’s sake! But you’re also an incredibly chill, incredibly nice person, who I’m always glad to see in my notifs on Tumblr or Discord. they should stop that, stop poking at the weak spots. it hurts to feel. you KNOW its to help. you dont want to be helped. stop it, stop. everyones going to know. they cant know it aches. theyll use it against you. keep kneeling, head lower, arch your back. maybe theyll be amused enough to give you mercy.

i honestly love his aesthetic i dont know why. the tv/light/dream shit has a lot of potential methinks. i love the thought of a job swap au where prismo uses light/tech as a way to interact with the world while still being stuck somewhere else... and also the visual funkiness of him being projected onto many many tv screens brings me joy. i want that gender...
also. in general i love it when gods are depicted ss being really mortal-like... like, youre a cosmic being with power and omnipotence over the multiverses you watch over, and yet. you like sandwiches and pools and games and hanging out wih friends and its just. on every level but literal you are mortal and alive and wholly r e a l. but youre not. youre a dream, a projection, youre not even in the dimensions of the people you (love) watch. youre an outsider and its very clear. youre THIS CLOSE to being just like them. but youre not. and you never will be.
youre admired by those who are like you, but you dont really care for it. but those who you do care about either dont see you as anything more than a tool to manipulate the multiverse or see you as too grand to be able to connect with in a way that isnt "you are god and i am not". youre stuck in a prison you yourself control. but a prison is still a prison. people want what you have- how you wished they had it instead of you! maybe then, youd be loved. maybe then, things wouldnt be so ear-deafingly quiet. silence sticks out like a sore thumb in the yearning- the wish to not be alone.

Hello!! How are you??
So, I absolutely hate ronanc/e. Like you never ever date your friend's ex, especially if it ends badly. Which is what happened. There's going to be a ton a complicated feelings about Steve and ro/nance and even if Steve didn't express his displeasure about it, it would negatively affect Steve's relationship with Robin. Like ST4 completely screwed over Stobin for Stancy. And it drives me crazy that Steve, who canonically has issues with people committing infidelity, would go for someone already in a relationship. And Dustin, Robin and Eddie for convincing Steve to go after someone in a relationship!! And Nancy and Robin barely have a good relationship in canon! Nancy gets annoyed with Robin until she does something helpful to Nancy's cause. (Which is something that is now like ingrained in Nancy's character and I would like for the Duffer's to let her change from it, because it makes her so unlikable and the one of the most unrealistic parts of the show is that no one treats her like she only cares about people until they are useful to her.)
I honestly think people are harsh on Vickie (I adore her, she looks like a really good match for Robin and she's bi! If not canonically, then in my heart.) because Robin is the sole canonical wlw character in the party. So her love interest falls under way more scrutiny and when the Duffer's gave her a similar trait to Robin, people were disappointed, especially with how little screen time she has. And if the Duffers wanted, they could have really easily made Vickie a more prominent character. Have Chrissy take her for backup at Eddie's trailer and have them both go on the run or something. And most non party love interests get the same amount of development. (Take Suzie) However, on the fandom side of things, people will literally make up backstories for Gareth and ship him with Will???? You see this white boy who's a junior and got like 30 seconds of screen time and decides he's a good match for Will, but you see Vickie and deem she is too similar for Robin and won't bother creating backstories for her? People literally do it for Chrissy and ship her with Robin! Nothing against Buckingham, it's just that people will take any character and give them backstories and ship them but they won't do this for Vickie.
I think that the whole Robin and Nancy making fun of Steve things stems from Robin making fun of Steve in ST3 and Nancy just generally being demeaning to Steve in general. And ST4, with every single person demeaning Steve's intelligence did not help at all. And people say that you shouldn't bring a man's feelings into a wlw relationship, but Steve is entangled in this relationship. Nancy was his first love and Robin is his best friend. If the genders were swapped, people would be having a conniption. [Also, I honestly believe that if you swapped the genders of the characters, Steve would get a lot less hate and Nancy would get a lot more, but that's my opinion. Like people would never doubt that Nancy cheated on Steve and Steve breaking the camera wasn't all that unreasonable.]
Anyways, sorry for the long ask, I just have a lot of opinions on ro/nance and platonic Stobin and Vickie! (Also, from above, like Vickie and Chrissy could have been childhood friends but then grew apart but they know they can go to each other for everything, so Chrissy takes her to Eddie's trailer and then season 4 continues with lots of Rockie interactions. I would love to read a ST4 AU like that but unfortunately I haven't seen any of those on AO3 and I have negative writing skills, so I will be waiting for the day that it might come)

i’m so glad other people dislike r//nance! the ship feels so difficult to escape within this fandom, which is insane, because it honestly makes no sense to me. i think a lot of people that ship it, ship it because they’re two hot women, and don’t really care beyond that. their personalities don’t mesh well, and their situations in life don’t either. like you said, steve is robin’s best friend and nancy’s ex. it’s just not the kind of thing that mix.
i didn’t love that a lot of stobin scenes became about stancy, and i feel like nancy replaced a lot of scenes that could’ve included robin. it is also weird to me that so many people were pushing for stancy when nancy and jonathan are still together. like you said, steve has major issues with infidelity, and while i can see dustin pushing for steve and nancy (because he loves to involve himself into steve’s love life) i don’t really understand eddie putting in his two cents.
and yeah! nancy really only likes people when they benefit her in some way, which is a really interesting character trait, but not if the character never develops out of it. nancy’s character development has been stagnated for 4 seasons, when they gave her a handgun and decided that was enough.
i love vickie so much and it kills me that the fandom doesn’t appreciate her. i’m pretty sure she’s canonically bi, but people toss her aside for no reason. and while i would’ve liked vickie to have more of a role, i also think it makes sense that she doesn’t. someone compared her to rosie from lotr. the calm in the storm, the peace at home, the hope you long for during horrible times. i know the st fandom loves trauma relationships, but i just love the idea of robin being able to have someone safe, outside of everything horrible that’s happened to her. and yeah, i don’t have anything against gareth, he’s a fun little character, but i have no idea why people love him and will so much, it’s honestly weird. people found the closest in age, good looking teenager they could, and said that’s good enough! wlw will always come under more scrutiny than mlm.
i’ve made a post about how much i hate steve becoming the butt of all stranger things jokes, but it’s even worse if it’s his ex and his ex’s new girlfriend that is also his best friend making fun of him. and i think it’s insane that people complain about a man being involved in a lesbian relationship, like… first of all, it isn’t even a real relationship (not in real life, or even the show) and second, a man is involved. he is quite literally at the centre. you can shove him off to the side, but in doing so essentially create entirely different characters. and i think i made a post about that!! if nancy was the man people would hate her, like she would probably be one of the least liked characters. people would consider it girl power that steve had slutshamed nancy, and smashed the camera. and if you’d had a drunk guy calling his girlfriend bullshit, and saying he’d never loved her. people would think they were the worst person alive.
you don’t have to apologise for long asks!! though it might take me a bit longer to respond!! and i do love that idea to involve vickie more!! honestly if i had written the season, i wouldn’t have given her a current boyfriend, but still, i’m just glad we got her at all. and if that fic existed, i’d totally read it!!

I played TTO when I was a kid, but I never had a membership because I grew up in extreme poverty. I started playing TTR in about 2018, and someone made me give Clash a try in 2020 but even after starting Barnacle Boatyard it didn't really catch on so I uninstalled it. I got bored of TTR in late 2022 and gave Clash another try, and I really liked it afterwards.

Oh boy, that’s… that’s actually really hard for me. I have a hard time picking favorites, because I generally love things for very different reasons. I know much more clearly what I dislike when I see it; enjoying things is sorta my default state, y’know?
Like, take the AU question. I’d be hard pressed to tell you whether a good Reverse Robins setup was something I liked better than, say, @jube-art’s Superfam/Batfam role-swap (which, if you haven’t seen it, go check it out!)
I’m also working my way through canon chronologically, and am still in the early/mid-90s, so there’s a lot of characters I haven’t officially gotten to, and a lot of stories I haven’t gotten the chance to really dig into yet. (I made it to Knightfall, realized I hadn’t put any of the buildup to that arc in my comic library, and decided to go back and read Barbara’s time with the Suicide Squad instead.) I don’t feel comfortable planting a flag on this until… oh, at least until ~2006, probably. (Which, given just how many books/characters suddenly got added in the 90s, will probably take a while.)
(There are also lots of characters who have so much potential in their backstory/power set, but who never got to use them to their full potential. Or who only had the cool parts of their backstory tacked on as an obvious retcon in the process of writing them out of the story, because the fans were vocally upset about them, meaning they never got the exploration any of those story ideas deserved.)
(I have a special level of ire for power sets that are really cool on a surface level, but where the creators added just one power too many to stop them from being fully interesting. For example, Menagerie’s bugs having mind control properties overcomplicates her too much, in my opinion. Or—if you’ll let me hop over to Marvel—a character like Alpha who has all the “standard” superpowers, but only one at a time? What makes that interesting is having to choose between being super-strong or invulnerable or super-fast (etc.) therefore this character should not have ranged attack options built into said power set; it disincentivizes him from ever getting up-close with enemies, forcing the writer to choose between having the character be stupid or having the character never use the interesting elements of their powers. (…I mean, Alpha being stupid is kinda the point of his plot, but you see what I’m getting at, right?))
I will say, I adored Jason’s post-Crisis Robin run (in both Batman series, though for very different reasons) and so far very little has brought me as much joy as reading DC’s Detective Comics from that time period! And those few pages of Dan Mora’s B&W cyberpunk short that went around recently had me absolutely frothing with excitement for the possibilities that verse holds. And Jason being Tim’s Robin brings me endless joy, which neither canon nor jerkfaces will take from me.
(Aaaaaaaand while shipping isn’t the catharsis I come to comics for (thank gods, basically every canon ship I’ve witnessed thus far has been awful in motion even when their potential is off the charts,) I can actually blame DCEU SuperBat for getting me into this whole mess in the first place. Blame @susiecarter, whose fics I found immediately after watching someone do a deep-dive analysis of everything that went wrong with BvS, which I paused when I thought, “Huh, these are actually all really good points… I bet fanfiction has done this exact story, but with much better execution, recognizable characterization, and probably a hell of a lot gayer. Let’s go check.”)

since apparently there is a darklina Secret History AU in the world i had a fun ask idea. what would the general premise before these various darklina aus: - vampire story, - Heathers (1988), - POTO adaptation, - The Devil Wears Prada (2006), - Star Wars. Almost said Victorian era but i think it IS the Victorian era lol

Vampire AU
This would be really funny bc the Darkling is basically a vampire anyway. And him as like a centuries old melodramatic bitch and Alina as the disgruntled fledgling from the modern era with no sense of glamor whatsoever trying to figure out how to get rid of the fang lisp and being most bummed out bc she can’t buy a fucking mcmuffin in the morning anymore would be so funny.
As for the actual premise, I could see like really leaning into the age old reincarnated wife trope, but maybe going in the OG Dark Shadows take on it, where it’s more about trying to *make her* into the old GF and kind of brainwash her into it. But she actually turns into a vampire very early on and you get the above incompatibilities in full force.
(That being said. A typical Dracula AU of the TGT gang would also be VERY FUN)
Heathers
OH MY GOD I mean frankly I don’t think this needs any changing whatsoever, the Darkling is simply JD. Alina as Veronica is a mildly harder fit but she has that same kind of sarcastic grit. I feel like the biggest hurdle is getting his characterization to a point where he’d want to suicide bomb the whole school— I do not think he’s at all typically prone to self destruction over having the chance to at all control anything. But if LB managed to make Dark Academia Darklina *cute* and actually compatible then I think Heathers!Darkling can be a messier more destructive flavor.
If we’re going way off script though. I think Darklina as the very very fucked up teacher/student serial killer duo could be INTERESTING.
Phantom of the Opera
Not going to lie, the funniest part of this is making the Darkling ugly because he’s SO vain. I think if his face ever got fucked up he’d be so wretched about it. I would like to see it!!
I think it’s actually really simple to just swap out his grand plans with the obsession over music. And there’s a fairly 1:1 similarity there of Erik’s belief that he is owed Christine’s love because he’s suffered so much in his life and the Darkling thinking Alina is like the cosmic answer to his loneliness and his rightful soulmate whether she wants to be or not goddammit! And of course there’s the mentor/protégée aspect and inherent manipulation. I think the end result of such an AU would probably just be Kay!Phantom if Christine was an angry wet cat.
Anyway literally like 75% of the reason I like TGT as a fandom source material is because it allows me to play dolls with characters that can be slotted into a POTO meets Elisabeth das Musical type dynamic with a) actual magic, b) no real history to feel weird about c) a phantom type character that is not ugly agshdf I’m shallow okay
Devil Wears Prada
I’m kind of going insane over the thought of the Darkling in the fashion world. He would kill at it tbh. I think pretty much everything would be the same as the movie except we just have Alina and him as Andy and Miranda Priestly analogues, and they shack up together lmfao. 10/10 no notes, I don’t think anything else needs changing.
Star Wars
So on principal I refuse to Star Wars AU anything but also I mean wouldn’t that basically be if Palpatine and Padme were fucking? People want to make Darklina and Reylo comparisons all the time but come on he’s 100% a Palpatine

Good morning my loves! Let's play a game - give 10 of your favorite tropes in Fandom and then show me the character or pairing you most enjoy it with! I'll start:
1. Slow Burn
Hell yeah. Barnes and Noble. Starbucks. Rogers and Hammerstein. However you put it, these two already have the slowest of burns in canon anyway. *chef gesture* it's about the pining, y'know? And nobody can do it like these two do it. Every word that comes out of their mouths to each sound like wedding vows and it makes me wanna punch myself in the face.
2. Idiots to Lovers
Buddie. Again, this is basically just Canon? They're so dumb and I love them. Buck is a Disney Princess and Eddie is a grumpy old man in a very hot guy's body but somehow it works?
3. Fake Dating
Spideychelle. "My wife is a bitch - and I like her so much", but in actual relationship form. These two are also young enough to make the fake dating thing even more believable.
4. Time Loops/Groundhogs Day
MattFoggy especially but Daredevil generally. Matt's life is such an unutterably fucked up mess that he could frankly use about 8000 of these do-overs.
5. Flower Shop/Coffee Shop AU
Imagining this man in any customer service job fills me with unspeakable delight.
6. Gender Swap
Harringrove. I support anyone this horny on main tbh - but I love any woman who can and will murder me, too. Steve swapped, Billy swapped, both swapped, I don't care. They're hot, they're mean, they're absolute badasses and I'm here for it.
7. Arranged Marriage/Marriage of Convenience
SasuHina - I'm a sucker the quiet ones and I can't see any other way these two would end up in the same space.
8. Different First Meeting
Inject this directly into my veins. Please and thank you.
9. Fix It Fic
Hellcheer. You know why 😭 Don't touch me.
10. Case Fic/Mystery
Deckstar. Again, basically canon but I always love the ideas the fandom has for explaining angel lore and backstory because I'm a big fucking nerd 😊

Just wondering, what is that female!Tom wip about?
thank you for asking! please buckle in for a long answer ✌🏼 before i can explain what, i want to explain why.
fem!tom WIP is (mostly) because i have beef with fem!harry fics. please note i comment only on content where only harry's gender is swapped. femslash!tomarrymort is another subject!
so my #1 (rhetorical) question is why always fem!harry ??? and never fem!tom ???
i feel genderswaps often romanticize gender roles and the mistreatment of women, and woobify (for the lack of a better word) the character that is being genderswapped. i typically avoid fem!harry for these reasons, and i also avoid omegaverse fics for similar reasons, AND i also detest the general fixation on top/bottom classifications in fandom at large for, you guessed it, similar reasons!
part of what i want to do, in subverting this common trend by writing tom as female and leaving harry as male, is write a portrayal that exists outside of the stereotypical female = submissive/lesser trope that permeates fandom. female characters can be dominant, and they can be written accurately and realistically.
furthering that point: i don't truly imagine tom as (loosely speaking) a femme fatale. the typical female way of obtaining power would not appeal to her. being objectified would not appeal to her. i think her relationship with gender would be very interesting because of how society views women as objects.
part of my difficulty with this story is writing tom, with all her ambition, desiring power when she's not in a position to get any, purely because of her gender. i don't see her bonding with her female classmates the way tom did in canon with the knights of walpurgis.
she's more of an outcast than she wants to be, but unwilling to swallow her pride and submit to societal norms. the more she grows into her beauty, the more she hates it for giving her what she can't obtain in society based on her other merits.
she resents her mother, who died during childbirth, who represents the shackles of the life she does not want, mother/wife bullshit with no hope for anything better.
and here is where harry comes in!
this is not a time travel AU, so harry is her age and lacking most of the baggage that canon!harry has. he is a Good Boy.
now, tom hates harry. she hates who he is—presumably pureblood and filthy rich—and she hates what he represents—the ideal, nuclear family life where she marries him and pops out a dozen children.
harry is the kind, empathetic harry you see in a lot of my stories. he does like tom, and i think if he felt she were open to it, he'd come to love her. but she rejects him time and time again, rather violently so, not because she doesn't like him but because of what liking him represents. this self destructive kind of behaviour is going to have a lot of consequences.
i don't see this story having a happy ending. not for tom, not for harry. but i do see it as a realistic ending, which is what matters most to me. i'm excited to keep working on it! the WIP is sitting at 5k at the moment, but it won't be posted until it's complete just because i want to make sure i get it right.

Got back into UnderTale and the AU community, sooo me and a friend in a discord made a ship and a ship child! (I feel like making one is a right of passage in this fandom lol)
Meet Mariner1!
The ship child of OuterSwap!Sans (who was dubbed Star-Dust as a nickname) and Error!Sans. The shipname is SwapNova! Swap comes from Star-Dust, and as supernovas are the destruction of stars, Nova comes from Error!
Mari was ofc named after a space craft fail! Another reason I chose it is because of the fact that it was a typo that caused the failure, and Mari couldve been named Typo instead.
Notes about Mariner1:
- He was formed from a time Error and Star-Dust met, in which they fought immediately within sight of each other out of panic. Before Error realized this was a combination of two AU's he likes and left.
- He has chronic pain, as Errors glitches canonically cause him pain, they cause Mariner pain too. His pain doesnt get in the way of his life often, but that is only because he got used to it with time. When he was a small child, it was extremely bad and often had him at home in bed. Presently, its dull, but flares up randomly and without cause some days. On bad days he doesn't really move from his bed, often lying there and only getting up to alarms for food times, or to use the bathroom. Pain relieving medication doesn't really work on him.
-He has some sight problems due to the glitches and the fact that his right socket is never fully open like his left is. Usually he solves this by just closing his right eye, but he cannot do that all of the time. And he doesn't like the idea of glasses.
- Mariner1 is autistic. This affects a lot about his life and relationships with people.
-His autism finds most any touch rather weird and uncomfortable feeling, while not painful, he wont actively seek it, or look for it. Which makes others think of him as rather withdrawn. (This also applies to his own touch to himself, he does not like when his phalanges all touch eachother if he can help it. Theres always a minescule amount of space between them.)
- He doesn't speak aloud often. Only sometimes randomly or when he thinks its necessary. He is rather quiet, until he isn't. Usually when away from people he searches for stars to mess around with. Mostly finding old ones to blow up. That is when he gets loud.
-this doesn't mean that never opens his mouth except for rarely speaking and eating though. Quite the opposite in fact. As his strings come from his mouth, hes often seen with his mouth hung open, and maybe a phalange or two inside of it. He does this absentmindedly, this causes a slight drooling problem. But can be fixed by giving him something to do with his hands, and by giving him chewlery. He likes to eat the rubber though.
-His special interests arent considered normal to most people as well, those interests being jesters, bells, lost space craft and humans, and overall any weird disturbing things related to space, as well as anything to do with fires and explosions. Generally, people find him "disturbing" and "freaky".
