'Desert hermit Ben Kenobi develops a reputation as a crazy wizard because he keeps talking to thin air.'
No. This is Tatooine, talking to yourself is hardly the weirdest thing they've seen. Ben Kenobi, however, keeps having full on fucking screaming rows with thin air and seemingly gets replies back, which is decidedly a step up.
(They've managed to piece together that a major point of contention is the acquisition and raising of a child? Clearly Ben is a wizard that had a bitter divorce with a desert spirit and is working through a custody dispute)

some notable moments from the qsmp meta talk antoine, étoiles, baghera and co had yesterday, including the stuff i mentioned in this post <3 subtitles in eng, transcript in eng below the cut as well (I apologize for the bad video quality my wifi hates me)
[Video Transcript:
[First clip begins]
Etoiles: I’m— I’m gonna go on QSMP, I think
ZeratoR: (laughs) This really made him want to play Minecraft
Baghera: Ohh, lucky, I miss it
Etoiles: But— you still can’t come back?
Antoine: Well, technically, she could come back, but I don’t think it’s as simple as that
Baghera: (pained) Not as simple as that….
ZeratoR: What are you waiting for?
Etoiles: It’s Lost, it’s Lost
Antoine: Well, her character is dead in game
ZeratoR: Ahhh… but isn’t there a way to— to— a gimmick?
Antoine: No but don’t worry, there’ll probably be a gimmick (laughs) there’ll probably be a gimmick, don’t worry
Baghera: Don’t worry, don’t worry—
Antoine: No, she’s banned from the server! She’s banned from the server, it’s over
ZeratoR: Sucks! How did you die?
Antoine: Nuclear explosion
Baghera: Nuclear— yeah, nuclear explosion
ZeratoR: Ah yeah indeed you’re dead
Etoiles: That should have technically killed everyone—
Antoine: I hadn’t been there for a long time!
Etoiles: Well, I wasn’t there either— oh, well, you (laughs) you—
Antoine: I was elsewhere, I was elsewhere, dude
Etoiles: What a fraud you are (laughs)
ZeratoR: Where were you?
Antoine: I was elsewhere— somewhere else, I can’t say, it’s my lore, dude (laughs)
Etoiles: It’s his lore!
Antoine: I can’t say, dude, it’s my lore, dude
Étoiles: Antoine’s lore—
Baghera: Oh wow, you played around with that? Damn, I didn’t even see
ZeratoR: Basically he was glued to the bomb but well played to him
Etoiles: The lore in question (laughs)
Antoine: The lore in question, dude, it’s mad
Baghera: Take of yourselves guys! This was so cool
[Everyone says goodbye]
[Baghera leaves the call]
ZeratoR: Basically he was glued to the bomb but he found a gimmick
Antoine: Yeahhhh
Etoiles: The lore in question, just being the goat
Antoine: Yeah but the problem is that it’s my lore in every game, dude
Etoiles: (laughs) Oh but it’s really that. Antoine’s lore is being the goat
[Second clip begins]
Etoiles: Something that makes me laugh a bit is the fact that because there’s so many open plotlines it leads to fan theories that are sometimes really fun. There was a moment when my character’s skin, well, it was made for me with white eyes. And well I used it because I found it cool. And, actually, when I put it on, I read 65 tweets from people going, ‘hey, did you know that Etoiles’ character is blind because he actually lost his eyesight because he was—‘
Antoine: But you know on this server, the moment you say any sentence it gets overinterpreted in every way
Etoiles: It’s so funny—
Antoine: What’s wild is that there’s a billion theories on things, and for my part there are people that have understood some stuff about the theory and everything, which I find rather fun
Etoiles: Well it’s— you can’t reproach them because—
Antoine: Oh no precisely, I don’t want to reproach them, on the contrary I find it so cool!
Etoiles: Yeah but it’s funny the extent to which they get in their heads about it— like, you say one sentence on the server and you read a whole text of 65–
Antoine: Yeah, yeah it’s that
Etoiles: It’s really so funny
Angle Droit/Florence: Hmm, he said he was hungry at this given time, it’s surely a coded message
Etoiles: It’s really that!
Antoine: No but really, it’s really that, you know
Etoiles: But you know it’s honestly that, Florence
Antoine: You say a little sentence that’s supposed to be a joke and it’ll be interpreted seriously because ‘there’s this, and this, and that’, you see. But the thing is, it’s often completely wrong, but sometimes it’s correct. So they have every reason to continue theorising, honestly, I find. I think they have every reason to continue theorising, it’s very interesting
Etoiles: You’re just correct the goat, dude
[Third clip begins]
Etoiles: Basically I can say it because it’s out of roleplay and I think Antoine already knows it, because sometimes people are like, ‘yeah you can’t spoil the other streamers!’ but the streamers see everything—
Antoine: I know everything that happens on QSMP
Etoiles: —it’s just that the streamers don’t use the info rp wise. Basically I’m apart of an organisation on the server—
Antoine: What, you’re kidding, dude?!
[The others laugh]
ZeratoR: What the fuck?!
Antoine: I’m not supposed to know that, dude!
Etoiles: Basically I’m apart of an organisation that’s called the Resistance—
Antoine: (scoffs)
Etoiles: —and it’s completely hidden within the server, no one knows about it in the roleplay
ZeratoR: Even I knew about it, so
Etoiles: Yeah, well there you go. And therefore I have a hidden team that allows me to go into buildings, kill Federation agents that take care of the Island, and—
Antoine: But why would you want to kill Federation agents, dude?
Etoiles: Well because they’re not very nice, dude
ZeratoR: (laughs) Oh the lore is incredible. Well, it’s not nice to be mean, but…
Etoiles: The thing that’s funny—
Antoine: They’re not mean…
Etoiles: —is that I see messages from people on Twitter reacting like, ‘well I think it’s insane that Etoiles is killing Federation agents,’ when I don’t want to kill them. I never want to kill them. When I kill them, it’s because I’m forced to. And the last time, I didn’t want to kill them—
Antoine: That’s a really war criminal-esque phrase, that
ZeratoR: Clearly
Etoiles: No but bro, bro, it’s the admins themselves that told me, ‘return to the base, let’s fight,’ that’s what they said, bro, so I was like, ‘well, okay’ (laughs)
Antoine: Well that…
Etoiles: It was fun, honestly. And so when I saw all the messages on Twitter like, ‘Etoiles’ character has totally lost his mind,’ I was like, well—
Antoine: What, you don’t like white teddy bears, dude? Honestly, they’re so cool
Etoiles: Then again, white teddy bears aren’t really nice, dude
Antoine: Dude they are simply what I’d call the goat, honestly. They’re what I call the goat, personally, white teddy bears are called the goat

Mace: *dragging Kenobi and Vos out of the slam poetry night by their tunic collars and stops Tholme and Jinn from leaving them behind* No, you heard our rules after last week’s incident, they’ve been banned!
Qui-Gon: *ready to argue* What in the galaxy could my sweet baby padawan have done to get kicked out?
Tholme: I must admit, despite Jinn’s willful ignorance, I understand that mine could get banned, but he never mentioned it so I would like to know what he did.
Mace: Obi-Wan wrote a poem about a galaxy wide war that gave seventeen people True Visions and I had a shatterpoint migraine till last night. So for him it’s either me or him in that room and I’m the host so it’s me.
Qui-Gon: *taking a sheepish Obi-Wan into his arms for a pity cuddle cause that poem had led to like four straight days of council sessions and an enslaved Dathomiri child being found in a senator’s house on Naboo* To be fair. Obi-Wan had some good points.
Tholme: I’m scared to ask. What did mine do?
Mace: He didn’t write a poem so he went up to the mic and started licking it. It was the most disgusting noise I ever heard. If he gets near a mic I might have to drop kick him. Safer for him out here.
Tholme: *deep sigh of sadness* Yeah that sounds like something he’d do.

French TV journalist having a hard time trying to get woman in the street to comment on Macron's latest speech yesterday
Protesters organised casserolades (aka banging on pots and pans) in front of city halls across the country at 8pm, when Macron was speaking, to symbolically drown out his voice. Later that evening, Macron was filmed singing a song with some 'random people' in a street in Paris, trying to show he can go out and meet people and have fun because protesters don't exist. The people he was singing with (members of a choir, some of whom are 'alt-right-leaning') were using a folk song app created by far-right activists that was criticised a few months ago for hosting a Spanish fascist anthem & Third Reich military marches.
The government's response was that the President "couldn't know the background of the people he met that night." Maybe if he wants to avoid being associated with the far-right (that's a big if, I know), Macron should keep in mind that with the kinds of strategies and positioning his government has adopted lately, people in the street who welcome him with open arms and are proud to be filmed with him have a higher than average likelihood of supporting fascism.

We have to talk about the disaster lineage cause Yoda -> Dooku -> Qui Gon -> Obi wan -> Anakin -> Ahsoka -> Sabine is a crazy thing to think about, in that we got the last grandmaster of the Jedi before order 66, Darth Tyranus, the chosen one himself, the embodiment of the light side of the force and ends with a FUCKING MANDALORIAN who with a direct descendant of FUCKING TARRE VIZSLA

Lingering Pain
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whoever decided to have Obi-Wan's hair fall out of place to symbolize when he himself is falling apart is genius.
When he's fighting Maul, he doesn't want to defeat him, he wants to kill him. He's so angry, flashes of Qui-Gon lying lifeless on the floor go through his head and suddenly he's 25 again losing the only father he'd ever known. Suddenly, he's channeling all the rage of his youth and it consumes him because this isn't Maul versus Obi-Wan now, this is Maul versus a young man who'd never known loss like this.
Now notice all the lightsaber marks, and notice how they all come from Obi-Wan. Maul doesn't slash the wall. Maul has the advantage, he's calm, collected and he knew exactly what to say that would rile Obi-Wan, and it worked. All that trauma Obi-Wan went through with Qui-Gon's death, there wasn't a Jedi that could help him in the way he needed. So he buried all of it, but then Maul came back from the dead, and so did all that pain.
Maul still being alive isn't fair. It isn't fair that he got cut in half and was able to live when Qui-Gon didn't survive. Obi-Wan finds himself so angry because how does a creature so evil get to live and his master didn't? You see can it in his rage, it isn't fair, you can see the mournful root of his anger, it isn't fair, you can see it with each careless, striken blow, It isn't fair.

Am I the only one who thinks this line right here means Shmi didn't want to leave Tatooine at all?
Obviously she didn't want to remain a slave (and she doesn't), but I don't think she would have wanted to go even if Qui-Gon had managed to get her freedom too. Is it so crazy to think she might like Tatooine and think of it as her home? It's brought her pain, but joy too. All her friends must be there. Maybe she's already met Cliegg, who knows.
She doesn't sound at all like she's resigned to a hopeless fate and a tragic life of quiet suffering, she says her future is on Tatooine. (And it is! Because she gets freed and happily married! And she doesn't choose to leave Tatooine once she's freed!) Of course, she's putting on a brave face for Anakin here, but the crux of the issue is the pain of separation, not her own situation. It's hard for Anakin to leave her behind, but I think he would have had to even if she had been freed. (It's just that much harder since she hasn't and her future isn't guaranteed. Then again, the future never is.)

No one ever tells Obi-Wan that he is his Master's padawan.
Of course, for most people who had known Qui-Gon Jinn, telling someone else they resembled the the man would in fact be a thinly veiled insult. But still, Obi-Wan feels the absence of comparisons almost as strongly as he feels the absence of his Master.
There is no one for Obi-Wan to push against now, no strong presence at his side, ready to grab him by scruff and pull him back from another reckless stunt. It's an odd feeling. He has been set loose against his wishes. There is no one to his left and Anakin at his heels, but Anakin had needed, still needs, a strong, gentle figure for his prickly but sensitive heart. For even their worst bickering could not hold a candle to the scathing remarks he and Qui-Gon had shot at each other and Obi-Wan knows he cannot push and needle Anakin in the same way.
When Qui-Gon had been alive they had been an amusing, mirrored pair, the maverick and his rule-following padawan. Opposites clashing against each other, yet working together to complete the most difficult missions. Few saw that Qui-Gon's impertinence had indeed rubbed off on his padawan, cultivated from that small, angry initiate, because the only way to rebel against the rule-breaker had been to parrot the Council fastidiously. No one would ever get to see that again. Obi-Wan is one half of a mirrored pair trying to complete a routine on his own. What once was an impish, teasing compliance is now a betrayal of all his Master's values.
"How could Qui-Gon raise such a model Jedi?" He hears them say, "It's admirable that Master Kenobi was appointed to the Council despite his Master's maverick ways."
Padawan Kenobi would have yelled and kicked and screamed. Master Kenobi is serene. It should feel like an achievement. It feels like a disappointment.
Sometimes, Obi-Wan looks at the shape of the man he has moulded himself into, and aches to be his Master's padawan.
