If you want a nonspecific, nonexhaustive “where do I even start” guide…

Streaming - “I want to watch xyz”

This is normally what most people want when they talk about pirating.

Use Firefox with uBlock Origin and additional privacy add-ons such as PrivacyBadger, TrackMeNot, etc.

Free VPNs are out there. Get one - but vet it’s efficacy. My go-tos are Proton VPN, or Windscribe if you plan to do a bit of torrenting.

What is torrenting? How does it work? Here’s a guide!

Back to streaming -

Make sure that a) you’ve got your Mozilla browser with all its adblocking private glory, and b) you’ve got a VPN turned on to hide what you’re doing in that browser from your ISP (internet service provider).

Now you need to actually find a site to stream from. This is the tricky part, because openly sharing these sites will get them taken down if they’re talked about widely enough. (Remember how tiktok idiots got zlibrary taken down?)

You’re going to have to talk to people on forums. You’re going to have to experiment with sites you find yourself. Search for ‘x online free’ and look at the links that come up - is the preview text mangled or clickbaitey? Are there Reddit threads about that website confirming or denying its content? A good rule of thumb is to ignore the top result or two - copycats of good streaming sites will often buy out the top result spot. Eventually, you’ll develop a good gut feeling and understanding of what a good site ‘looks like’ from the results page alone.

However, there are some places that compile good sites that haven’t been nuked by lawyers (yet) - check out r/FMHY! The masterposts are actively curated and updated when a site goes down or is found to have malicious downloads.

Remember - loose lips sink ships. No tweeting (xeeting?) or Facebook statuses about your new favorite piracy website and where you found it. Even posting to tumblr (kind of like this…) isn’t a great idea if you want those websites to stay under the radar and stay accessible. Nobody talks, everybody walks (away with their share of pirate booty)

If you aren’t downloading media, pick pretty much any site and watch away! Adblock and Firefox will keep away pop-ups and other annoying ads, and your VPN means your ISP can’t tell that you’re visiting an unofficial streaming service.

Note: In my experience, I’ve never heard of visiting a site and watching stuff on it infecting or otherwise compromising your computer. That tends to come from misclicks on invisible or overwhelming pop-up ads that redirect you to an automatic download or similarly malicious bullshit. If you’re using Firefox and uBlock, you shouldn’t be in any danger of an accidental redirect.

Downloads - “I want to keep xyz”

This is the realm of pirate archiving - you’re keeping files physically on your hard drive, an external hard drive, or burning a disk.

Adblock + Firefox browser? Check. VPN on? Check.

Go to your streaming site of choice - most if not all have download options. You can download those files or, manually, right click and save the video file from the webpage as an mp4. I honestly don’t know if there’s a difference in quality or more danger in clicking the download buttons, but regardless -

Run that puppy through VirusTotal.com! It’s a reliable browser based virus checker - if the file is too large, use a local virus checking program (your native Windows Defender on Windows computers or, I prefer, Malwarebytes)

Generally mp4 and mp3 files are clean - choose where to save them for the long term, and bam! Free forever media.

Optionally, I also upload mp4 files to a named Google document - this way I can easily share them or make them findable through a ‘xyz Google doc’ search for others :]

Torrents - “I want to keep and share xyz”

I’m not going to go into this subject in depth because, honestly, it’s not something I do regularly.

See the previously linked Torrenting guide for information on how the process works, and check out r/FMHY for recommendations and warnings about different torrenting clients (I’ve personally only used qBittorrent - I’ve heard to stay away from the Pirate Bay and Bittorrent.)

As with streaming, turn on that VPN baby! You’re going to need one that supports peer-to-peer (p2p) connections, so Proton’s free version is a no-go. Windscribe is what I’ve used for torrenting (and it’s a good free VPN on its own - I’m just partial to Proton). You get 10GB every month on Windscribe’s free version, which is more than enough for a few movies/a season or two of your favorite show.

(Bigger torrents like video games are easily 30+ GB, so be prepared to either pay for a no-limit premium account or spend a few months downloading your files in chunks.)

VPN on? Double check.

Boot up your torrenting client - I use a slightly out of date version of qBittorent, but there are other options. The Reddit thread and previously linked torrenting guide have a few dos and donts of selecting a client, so be thorough before you download your client of choice.

This is getting into the logistics of torrenting a bit, so forgive me if this is vague or incorrect, but now you need a torrent seed. These will be .tor files found through pirating websites or archives - these are rarely malicious, but it’s good to run any piracy related download through something like VirusTotal.com or scan it with a local program like Malwarebytes.

You open your seed file in your client and wait. A ‘healthy’ seed tends to have lots of seeders and few leeches, but sometimes you’re stuck with an obscure seed you just have to wait for.

Your torrented files have fully downloaded! Now what? a) keep your client open and seed those files for others as long as you want to - sharing is caring! and b) run those files through a security program like Malwarebytes (not sponsored it’s just the only program I’m familiar with).

Be wary of what gets flagged - sometimes the files seem important, but are just trojans, and likewise sometimes they seem malicious, but are just cracked software getting flagged by your system. It’s good to check and see if others have had a problem with this particular torrent before - Reddit threads from 2008 are your long dead friends.

And that’s about it. Feel free to correct me if anything I’ve recommended is malicious or outright wrong. I’ve been doing this for years and haven’t had an active problem to my knowledge, so if there is something fishy with how I do things, I am a statistical outlier and should not be counted.

Hey so remember how I posted yesterday about how it’s not a great idea to be condescending to people assuming the worst about the surveillance state and the role of the internet and tech companies in upholding and enforcing it? Well anyway, here’s an important thread on the House’s Section 702 “reform” bill, scheduled for a floor vote ASAP (as early as Dec. 12), which would be one of the largest expansions of surveillance within the US (accessible text below the images along with links to the linked articles)

Through a seemingly innocuous change to the definition of “electronic service communications provider,” the bill vastly expands the universe of U.S. businesses that can be conscripted to aid the government in conducting surveillance. 2/11

Under current law, the government can compel companies that have direct access to communications, such as phone, email, and text messaging service providers, to assist in Section 702 surveillance by turning over the communications of Section 702 targets. 3/11

Under Section 504 of the House intelligence committee’s bill, any entity that has access to *equipment* on which communications may be transmitted or stored, such as an ordinary router, is fair game. What does that mean in practice? It’s simple… 4/11

Hotels, libraries, coffee shops, and other places that offer wifi to their customers could be forced to serve as surrogate spies. They could be required to configure their systems to ensure that they can provide the government access to entire streams of communications. 5/11

Even a repair person who comes to fix the wifi in your home would meet the revised definition: that person is an “employee” of a “service provider” who has “access” to “equipment” (your router) on which communications are transmitted. 6/11

One of my few problems with adopting Tumblr as my social media outlet of choice is the way reblogging your own threads to comment on them means you get this slow explosion of longer and longer posts, and all previous versions still exist on your timeline.

This got long, so musings about the differences in how long-text posts work on different social medias and the trouble with writing them on ADHD continued under the cut.

So if you scroll down my Tumblr account after a bunch of writing, you see:

And this is annoyingly repetitive especially as posts get long. Which is a definite risk, I can type SO FUCKING MUCH.

And you might say "this is easily fixed: posts don't have to be short (this isn't Twitter) so just put all the content in one post", which, no. I have ADHD. Coming back in the room to go "AND ANOTHER THING!" is my modus operandi, you know? I can't think of all the things I want to say and just say them in one place and go "OK DONE" and click a button and let the internet go read it now. I don't know what I am going to say until after I have said it, and especially not what I am going to say next.

And I worry that the way Tumblr compounds your threads in this additive explosion means that the threshold for "this is too much of this punk" is much lower than other social networks, and that's a real worry for someone who writes as much as I do. I am happy to write endlessly for my own entertainment but I don't want to be annoying, and having to repeatedly scroll past multiple copies of my endless threads is going to get old fast.

Also on the subject of "one long post vs many short ones in a thread", splitting a post and continuing in a reply post/reblog has a functional use: it's like a paragraph break, but moreso. So it's good for indicating a break in the thought, to shift focus, or to take a tangent. (and as someone with severe adhd, my brain is 90% tangents)

Anyway I'm thinking I might do something weird like build a private mastodon instance and then set it up to sync threads to Tumblr.

Like, collect a full thread of small posts, turn them into paragraphs, and post that to Tumblr as one big post. It will work better, I think.

Fundamentally the problem I am facing right now is that Twitter is the best site for how my brain works. Individual tweets in a thread are a close approximation for how I think, so writing a long series of tweets is easiest for me. In that format, I can write. I can be creative. I can express myself.

And don't get me wrong: I love Tumblr. This is easily one of my favorite places on the web. But the "big open white page with plenty of room to write" model is not a good fit for my brain. I look at that and I can't get started. If I can get started, I can't finish, because I get bogged down in going back and editing and rewording.

Short small snippets in a row, like IRC or Twitter, prevent those problems. I don't have to think about the whole thing I'm writing, because I don't have room to write that. I just focus on the current line, and once that's done, I move on to the next. Did I misspell something? Could that have been phrased better? Well, too bad. That line is done now, you can only move forward.

Yeah this may not result in a work of literary genius but it at least results in something. I am not a great writer, I'm never going to be a new york times best seller... But I'm not aiming that high. Writing like this, as a series of short snippets and not going back to fix and re-edit them? It's the only way I can write at all. (and if you have ADHD that gets in the way of your writing, I recommend trying it).

I'd rather write in this specific and limited style than not write at all. There's too many ideas in my head, I need to get them out.

Anyway the reason I'm thinking about this now is that this is why I've traditionally been a heavy Twitter user (though let the record show that I have been on Tumblr for longer!). It works for that style of writing, so I could flourish there.

But it's dying. Oh God, is it dying. And I'm having to think about what to do next. Where to "go".

And as an aside, it's always weird how we always phrase these things like migrations. Like people are backing up their bags from site A and getting on a train to site B.

Maybe it's just my ADHD talking, but that's never been how I've used the web. I am in many, many places simultaneously, and have been for a long time.

I'm active, to different degrees, on Tumblr and Twitter and reddit and discord and mastodon and cohost and Facebook and LinkedIn and IRC and email chains and BBSes. The only thing that change if I "move" is how much I focus on one over an another. If I have a shitpost in my head, where do I decide to post it? If I want to talk about something more serious, where do I go?

Obviously with Twitter dying I'm focusing more on other places. I joked to someone on Twitter that I'm currently sharding what used to be my Twitter posts to Tumblr and mastodon: Tumblr gets the shitpostier and transier stuff, mastodon gets the techier stuff. But that may change as I find the right balance going forward.

Or, regarding my "persona Jubilee" post, I might just stop. I have been this Foone for a while, it might be time to stop and rethink.

Anyway, the final wrinkle in this overlong post: I wrote this much on Tumblr, despite all my talking about not being able to do it. I think I'm basically doing this by channeling my "Twitter thread mood" and not going back up and editing. Who knows if that means I've actually managed to overcome my previous inability to just write free-form long content, or if this is just a limited trick that I can't keep up. Time will tell.

Here's an interesting thing that happens that day. Chris seems to be paying very close attention to what's going on on Jenny's Twitter. Important announcement regarding the fansite.

Erlande (@kingpattillo) and I have made the extremely difficult decision to archive the site. You can read more about it in our final update. If you don’t see it right away please be sure you clear your browser’s cache. Otherwise, I’ll be copying the text into a read more for those of you who are on mobile.

We said it in the post but thank you to everyone who supported us in making this. We’re so proud of the work we did and so happy that it was such an amazing resource for so many people. While this situation sucks, it’s been heartwarming that our sense of community hasn’t gone away.

The Final Update

Yeah, this shouldn't be surprising, considering that a lot has happened over the weekend.

First, on October 14th, Matt Bragg made this tweet explaining that his position at Achievement Hunter had been dissolved. If you weren't around for it, this news was met with an outpour of support from the community and fellow RT/AH employees. Matt's stream the following day blew his sub goals out of the water, ending with over 15,000 Twitch subs. While the community focused on showering Matt with love, there were also questions about why Rooster Teeth dissolved the position of one of their beloved talents. Kdin Jenzen then made this tweet shortly after the community started to talk about Matt's leave, and how upset they were about it.

Kdin's account of the transphobia, wage theft, and workplace abuse she suffered while working at RT was extremely heartbreaking to read. Apologies from Michael, Gavin, and Geoff came out soon after. While Michael's tweet was met with this reply from Kdin saying she forgave him, and Gavin's got no interaction from Kdin at all. Most notably, her reply to Geoff was a direct call to action. Here is a link to that interaction.

Soon, Twitter was flooded with ex-employees, contractors, and former friends of Rooster Teeth, who all had similar things to say. Many of them talk about crunchtime, overtime that was never compensated, pay that was laughably low when compared to the industry standard, and an HR department that seemed pretty keen on keeping a lawsuit from happening, rather than helping their employees.

We won't be linking any specific threads here on the fansite because there are just so many of them. A quick search of "Rooster Teeth" on Twitter will pull up a lot, as well as Tumblr. The Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter subreddits have a lot of information, too.

The two of us started this project on March 30th, 2022 because of our mutual love for Achievement Hunter. Initially, we saw a need for a site like this, a place where general information about Achievement Hunter could be found. Our main goal was that we wanted this to be a place where the community could come and check out what's new, see any announcements they missed, and have a comprehensive list of series and descriptions. We had so many plans for this website that will now never come to fruition.

We cannot in good faith continue to produce fan content for a company that treats their employees the way Rooster Teeth does. We fully condemn their actions and stand firmly with the victims and the people who have suffered underneath them. Over the years, it has become clear that the company, despite the trials and tribulations of so many former (and current) employees, refuses to change for the better. They have cultivated a toxic culture that has come to a head this weekend, and because of that, we've made the heavy decision to archive the website.

The site will remain up, and the features of it all active, but besides some minor maintenance, we will no longer be making updates to it. We put a lot of hard work and effort into this site to just see it gone, so it will remain up as a resource, like it was always meant to be. We really wish it didn't have to end like this. It would have been nice to at least see this site turn one year old, but the people who have suffered under Rooster Teeth mean more to us, and we will always stand by them.

Finally, we want to say thank you to everyone who has visited the fansite, as well as those who have sent us words of encouragement on our personal Tumblr accounts. The fansite couldn't have gone over as well as it did without your guys' help and support. Despite everything, we're glad we can still come together as a community.

And that is hybrid rping aka roleplaying on both Tumblr & CLIQ. However, after noticing the lack of resources regarding roleplaying on Tumblr & CLIQ causing curious minds to turn completely away from the idea, myself and the admin team here at The Sutton HQ has decided to create an in-depth detailed guide to help you with your transition to hybrid roleplaying. With this guide we aim to encourage those of you in the urban rpc who have felt pushed out recently to return & create some amazing memories with us this summer. Please keep in mind. If by the end of this guide you still have any questions or need any further assistance, do not hesitate to reach out to us here. We will answer all questions & concerns in a timely manner. SECTION ONE: NAVIGATING TUMBLR.

In this section, you will learn how to navigate the dash aka your social media feed. If you are a visual learner, you can follow this throwaway account here for a more. Besides using the dash as social media, you’ll also use it to complete all development and tasks you desire. So when creating your tasks, please be mindful of that.

HOW TO. — CREATE YOUR “PROFILE”.

Your application has finally been accepted so now it’s time for you to create your social media “profile”. As you’ll notice, creating your tumblr account is just as the same creating your account for your usual dash roleplay. Set up as nice and extravagant as you’d like or as simple and sweet as you’d like.

If aesthetics are your thing, as is ours, you can find a few themes that allow your page to look like a Twitter feed here, here, and here.

HOW TO. — POST A “TWEET”.

Text Posts = Tweets, Reblogs = Retweets.

All right, this is fairly simple. All your text posts onto the dash will be your “tweets”. It’s suggested that you click bigger text when you post and edit your tweeted, but of course the option is completely up to you. You can see an example down below.

HOW TO. — MAKE AN “INSTAGRAM” POST.

The world is your oyster when it comes to making an Instagram post & this is also where similarities in the dash and hybrid rping come into play. In simple terms, you would make your IG post however you would in a normal dash rp. Make it as simple or extravagant as you want. You can see an example below.

HOW TO. — TEXT MESSAGES/DMS

As you can assume, your IMs on tumblr will act as your main hub for all direct messages and text messages ( snapchats as well if that’s your speed ). If you would like, you can conduct all FaceTime/regular calls via IMs on tumblr or you can do so in your PMs on CLIQ. We’ll expand more on that down below.

SECTION TWO: NAVIGATING CLIQ.

In this section, you’ll learn step by step instructions to roleplaying on CLIQ. From posting open/closed starters, headcannons, and more.

STEP ONE. — SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT.

After receiving your invite to the email provided, you will be brought to screen shown above & be prompted to set up your account. We advise that when setting up your name that you use your muse’s first and last name, but if your muse does have a preferred first name that can be replaced as well.

STEP TWO. — JOINING ROOMS.

Atlas you’ve gained ask to The Sutton Tower’s organization, you’ll see a plethora of rooms to join at your expense. Just click the button you see that says “join”. Please join any room you find interesting, but be mindful that you can join any public room at anytime. You can see a preview of the various options we have below.

STEP THREE. — PLOT CALLS.

Now that you have joined all the rooms you’re currently interested in, you’ll find that you’ve been automatically added to the “Welcome to The Sutton Tower” chat. This is our main ooc hub. All announcements from the admin team will be made here as well as open discussions. You can post all plot/connect, thread, and open starter calls here.

STEP FOUR. — THREADS/EVENTS/MORE.

Plotting/Conducting threads are quite similar to how things are done on Discord which also seems to be a pretty popular platform on Discord. You can create any thread you want in any public, or private, room that you are apart of. To keep it clean, we do suggest pressing down on the open or closed starter you are responding to you to create a much more private/secure thread within the room.

As stated, all threads are to be completed in all public or private rooms, but they can be conducted in your personal messages as well. In order to set up a pm with a fellow member, just click chats and then the plus sign to set up a direct message if on your computer. If on your phone, you’ll click the pad & pin that’s located at the bottom and the select which member you’ll like to chat with.

This section will be updated once we have started and we can further example how to move about with examples from our members.

We are aware that these instructions can be somewhat vague so of those of you still struggling before our open date, we will host a small workshop to get you situated with CLIQ. We host these privately bi-weekly for every new member that joins as well once we have started.

what are ocean sapphics? & flags!

'ocean' is the umbrella grouping term for presentation labels that lesbian & bi/pan sapphics can use regarding femininity, masculinity, and androgyny.

these terms were initially coined by strwbryfemme on twitter, using their gimmick account sapphicimagines back in january of 2022. both accounts have since been deactivated and therefore this thread is long gone. i found them in an old flag hoard album on my camera roll recently and decided to respectfully reupload them in case anyone else would enjoy.

NOTE #1: i will not be putting the rest of this, admittedly quite long, post under a ‘read more’ cut due to the fact that all the information would be lost if someone decided to reblog it and the original post ended up gone sometime in the future. you would not be able to view anything under it, since whatever is there can only be seen on the original page. i apologize if you have to scroll a lot because of this, but that’s unfortunately one of the many inconvenient ways tumblr works.

NOTE #2 (MUST READ): i felt it would be best to swap their usage of 'pearl' to mean masc, not androgyne. this is because these chosen words feel unbalanced in their meanings to me. 'ocean' feels too broad and vague to cover just one category (hence why i made it overarching instead), and doesn't fit its place in the hierarchy of the theme. it'd be like saying, for example: 'cat' is fem, 'animal' is masc, and 'dog' is androgynous; instead of saying 'cat' is fem, 'dog' is masc, and 'furry' (lmao idk ok? bear with me) is androgynous. i then turned what was previously 'pearl' into 'coral' as a replacement, since that made more sense from my perspective. if this confuses you while reading the tweets below, i have put my corrections for the labels/flags in alt text, which you can click on each image to access. if that doesn't help, feel free to ask questions. i tried to make this as easy and least complex as possible, so i apologize if that didn't work.

what will happen to me afterwards?

on death and social media - 11 april 2024

(content warnings for ovarian cancer, death of a teacher, death of an online friend, future death, grief)

today, one of my twitter mutuals found out that one of their online friends (known each other for Years) died back in january. they're obviously devastated and it makes me think of a three thoughts that run rampant in my head after every death that happens around me.

it's no secret that my first french teacher in high school died (72 year olds don't really survive ovarian cancer, ya know?). it's no secret that she was one of my favorite teachers. i think a lot about her life. her long-distance husband, the children she's "adopted" by teaching them french for four years (she could never have kids herself), her obsession with turtles. she gave so, so much of herself to her community, over 50 years teaching in my little high school. and she was not celebrated as much as i would've liked. she had a memorial service the saturday after she died, and we all talked to / near her urn in the school gym. the principal didn't give a shit, and her husband didn't show up. the other old faculty member (my us history teacher) retired at the end of the next academic year.

the way i found out was through text. i went through the first stage of denial, saving my grief for four hours later when i fully found out the context behind the "i'm so sorry" sent to the group chat. my french teacher had over 100 turtles, little trinkets she put all over her classroom. and she let each of her students take one home.

for almost a decade now, i've grown quite fond of the community i found on twitter. i made my little fan account, i followed people who were also obsessed with my fav pieces of media, and the rest is history. over the years, i also had to take breaks from being online after reading some "this is X's mom. X passed away last night" tweets or just let a friend fade away after their last tweet ("going into surgery tomorrow! should recover in a few months :3") turned one year old.

and i'm so scared. i think that with the many diseases running rampant on the planet, the lack of secure infrastructure in my country, and other problems, i realize that i could simply go away at any second. and who would know? legally, they have to tell my parents (they're the secondary recipients of health and retirement accounts). legally, they have to tell my job. legally, they don't have to tell anyone else. but i have friends everywhere. the most important ones existing as little icons on my screen or little words in my messaging apps. how the hell are they supposed to know?

when i was a kid, i always imagined myself having at least two weddings: one with my family in peru, one with my spouse's family and our joint community in the united states. now i realize the same might have to happen for my funeral. how am i supposed to plan ahead for that? now that i've finished school, there's never going to be a "guaranteed" place for me to be. i can go anywhere at any time! and none of you have to know!!

there are no conclusions to this ramble. there is only the three threads: online friends leaving but being remembered, people in my real life leaving but being forgotten, and me who will leave someday too. maybe i'll leave behind some turtles, too.

Will You Accept This Rose aka the story that never should’ve been because I loathe the Bachelor franchise and yet it made for a shockingly successful fic. 🤷‍♀️

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Sort of. I envisioned a lot more but my lousy tech abilities and lack of time failed me. 😅 I had originally planned to have fake Tweets at the end of the chapters showing what the viewers thought of that episode when it finally aired, since I tried to keep each chapter to one “episode.” I just couldn’t get them to format in any way I liked the looks of when I posted the first chapter, so I left them out. I really, really wanted to do them with one of those fake Tweet generators and make them look fancy and official, but that would’ve involved me figuring out how to use that, and I didn’t. I played and played with just putting the Tweets in the text and trying to make it clear that these conversations were from fans, but again, I just couldn’t get it to look good. So I have a bunch of that stuff in a file because I never delete stuff; I hoard it. 😂

Also, it originally stopped after Ronan and Adam gave each other roses at the ceremony then just glossed over Blue’s ending. I wasn’t happy with that, so I kept poking at it but I wrongly thought readers would only care about the Ronan/Adam pairing. Then, as I was posting, I got so many comments supporting Blue/Gansey/Henry and I was very excited. So I went back and added scenes to suggest the Gansey/Henry happening right in front of oblivious Ronan while trying to ramp up the romance between Blue and Gansey and Blue and Henry. I didn’t know if readers would care as much as I did about them, but they supported it, so I indulged myself with writing their dates too. I was really happy with that.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?

I learned that other people can enjoy fluff and crack too! I honestly didn’t think anyone would read it, let alone like it! I love reading humorous fluff and crack, and it’s all I can seem to write these days, so I was thrilled that other people enjoyed it. I mean, the whole story is basically a rom-com wrapped in cotton candy. There's no drama or narrative tension or real plot to it.🤣

I wrote the original fic in a week while I was stressing about looking for a job. All day, every day that week was: write a cover letter, send in a resume, then reward self with another 1,000 words of crack. Submit another online application; finish a chapter. It literally flowed out of me. It was 33-34K words when I thought I finished.

I decided to post one (1) chapter and give it 24 hours. I thought no one would read, let alone comment, and I’d slink back in and delete it, knowing that it had served its purpose in keeping me sane and helping allay my anxiety while I was submitting failed applications. Then it took off and I got the loveliest comments and started to meet people in the TRC fandom and I just 🥺🥺🥺 (My job quest was totally unsuccessful and I will be back in the fray in February so who knows if that struggle will shake loose some more fic from me!)

I also learned that TRC fandom has the best, kindest, most wonderful commenters on AO3! 💖💖💖

And finally, I learned that I could use the trauma of having to watch those reality dating shoes with my aunt and turn it into fanfic! I am slowly overcoming my trauma! 😂

I’m aware the title tweet is a bit provocative and a bit of a turn off. It’s the Marilyn Manson and Johnny Depp text exchanges I wanted to draw attention to more than anything. This isn’t out of context, or fabricated, or subjective. This is a record of Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson's text exchanges from 2016, where they share rape fantasies, use slurs, and call each other by the pet names that I find particular disturbing (given he MM is a Nazi admirer/fanatic and has severely abused an 18 year old Jewish woman) Depp calls Manson "Jew" and Manson calls Depp “Black Man” (obviously meant as derogatory pet names) and just as troubling, they talk about setting each other up with a teenager (18, but still disturbing) (Manson is offering Depp “New fan meet and greet girl, looks like you need it, trust me, I’ll send a pic, 18”). Please please please do not promote this man if you are against antisemitism or predatory behaviour. How he’s being held up on a pedestal by his fans whilst all this is out in the open is extremely damaging, and will only signal to people that antisemitism/54 year olds preying on 18 year old fans okay. His fans are already minimising this, or turning a blind eye, and a man with a massive fan base in the public eye being blatantly antisemitic and predatory and this not being a reason not to celebrate him to a very intense degree is extremely worrying! I put a stop to posting about the trial myself a while back, but this is something I do have to post.

I've never been a huge and intense JD fan, and it's only as a result of the trial that I've looked into him and his filmography more. I've also had anons send more info on MM (who I've never really cared for even without knowing the things the anons sent) - the friendship with MM is something I thought I could equate to having a friend who's a bit of a shitty person, but then I learned about MM being a Nazi sympathizer. How he has actual items from the holocaust displayed in his home. The things he did to Evan Rachel Wood.

Then I read about the road trip to buy Hitler's gun.

Johnny went along with it. He calls MM 'Jew' like it's some kind of ironic little joke. It's just so disgusting to me, and I cannot in good faith continue to support JD as a person. I'll always, always stand up for all victims of domestic violence. But I can no longer support Johnny Depp.

After the antisemitic comments I received during the trial, and the horrific abuse I've been enduring for the past month, I'm at the end of my tether with this being something people can shrug off and make excuses for.

There is no excuse for antisemitism.
