Hi! Hello! Hey!

I've been going through A Time and have chosen to cope by going back to the specific vibes of 2016 to 2018. That happens to include an incredible resurgence in my love for MCU fanfic, the community around it and all the love that goes into them. I've felt a bit distant from here for a while, but I still see so many of my old friends writing, ones who want to get back into it, and a whole lot of new writers I am dying to meet.

I've floated this idea vaguely on my blog and people seem to be interested so I figured it was worth a shot!

So yeah, welcome to Ari's Old School, Nostalgia Jam, Why-The-Hell-Not MCU Fic Writing Challenge 2024!

Anachronism Applications open now til the 18th!

Clarifications from questions asked:

Characters are NOT limited to a certain person. However, we just request that you list a few just in case one character gets saturated with requests and mods suggest you switch to a group piece or switch characters.

Shipping pieces are allowed but must remain PG.

Finished pieces should ideally remain unposted until closer to the zine publication date (February 2024) Posting sneak peeks is fine though!

General:

This zine is all ages! As a result, please refrain from creating any content that wouldn’t be present in the game. There’s no theme planned, but if you want to find a way to incorporate the title into your piece, props to you!

All communication will be done through Discord due to the nature of this project. Mods will message you within a few days once applications have closed with the link to join.

Please submit the finished piece with the account(s) you want to be credited under and an icon to represent you in the discord during the final check-in (Jan.22) .

We want all characters to be represented! When applying, please submit a few characters you are interested in in the format of first choice, second choice, etc. Mods will contact you in the event that there are too many people requesting the same character. Cut characters are fine as choices as well! Group pieces are exempt from this.

OCs are fine to include in your piece, but please keep the AHIT characters as the main focus of the piece.

Totally optional, but feel free to submit a small blurb about your piece (2-4 sentences)! This will be attached to the piece at the bottom with your icon.

There will be three check-ins, including the submission date. The estimated timeline for them will be a few days during the weeks of Dec. 17th, Jan. 8th, and Jan. 21st. The zine completion date with all pieces submitted, edited, and published is the first week of February. Final dates will be posted in the discord once everyone has applied and we know the general number of people participating. Mods will give ample notice if this publishing deadline moves. Due to this, if you miss two check-ins without notifying mods, you will not be able to participate and will be dropped.

Artists (illustrations/comics):

Pieces should meet the minimum dimensions of 2500px/8.5in by 3300px/11in (letter size paper!) Ideally, send as a .png or .tiff

Pieces must be finished and fully coloured with the exception of comics after the first page. Comics must have the first page coloured but can have subsequent pages be monochrome. This means that unless the piece requires large amounts of white space, the background should not be left blank.

Please keep in mind that pieces that do not fit the dimensions will have to be rescaled and mods cannot ensure image quality will be the same.

Please sign somewhere on the piece! I want the art to be credited correctly. If you don’t, I’ll add a small watermark with the account you want to be credited.

Writers:

Each piece of allotted a space of 5 pages or 2500 words. If you feel as though what you want to write would go over this amount, contact one of the mods and we can discuss it.

One thing that's becoming increasingly obvious is the running theme of Old vs New and how Team New is definitely winning. The whole thing about Jonathan and Mina being very young, like early twenties or something, and their youth being clearly reflected in their behaviour and this clashing with how immensely old Dracula is from his withering body to his ancient castle to the implied centuries of history he has lived through and personally participated in.

Dracula holds onto old ideas about useless peasants being nothing more than an endless supply of cannon fodder that he used to use as meat to throw at his enemies and now uses as food for himself (and his roomies) and there is also his thing about wistfully looking back on the history of his great house. He's happy that the house Jonathan found is old because a new one would have been impossible for him to live in. He has a grossly inflated sense of his own entitlement due to his noble status despite the fact that he is considered a dead man from an extinct lineage. He still considers himself as noble and respectable as he would have been hundreds of years ago, hence why he is so concerned about not being respected/revered in England, his predatory feasting on the local peasants as well as his treatment of Jonathan. Jonathan is a working man who is there in service of Dracula and therefore beneath him. Dracula can barge into his room whenever he wants, destroy his property, force him to acclimate to nocturnal life for Dracula's comfort and use him as a means to an end that will eventually die, in a way using him up just like he does with the local peasants. The way I see their relationship is that Dracula is possessive of Jonathan, not protective. To him, Jonathan is an object for his use that he has taken a fancy to, little more than an entertaining puppy or jester who means nothing in the grand scheme of things because he is hardly his own person, he is Dracula's. It's the same "I am noble therefore I matter and if you aren't noble you are here to be used" mindset that would have been acceptable in the ancient past he comes from but not in the modern day.

On the contrary, Jonathan and Mina are aggressively modern to the point where Jonathan explicitly mentions this when he's afraid ("19th century up to date with a vengeance"). They are young, they write in shorthand and (*SPOILERS FOR LATER ON IN THE BOOK*) there is one point in the story where Good Guy Squad needs to do a lot of blood transfusions which, at the time, was the Hot New Science and extremely modern, hence the complete disregard for blood types which weren't really a thing back then. Jonathan mentions that writing in shorthand would have confused the Count and therefore allowed him to send messages or keep writing that Dracula wouldn't have been able to decipher and being able to keep his shorthand diary does help keep Jonathan sane. Mina also mentions in her letter practising shorthand so she can keep diligent notes on the conversations she hears and oh boy I sure do wonder if that's going to be useful when someone needs to take notes on what happens in the rest of the book. The relationships between the heroes are also very, for lack of a better word, modern. Dracula and his roommates have a clear hierarchy that is very traditional but doesn't exist with the heroes. There is no one person in a position of power over everyone else in the group, including in the individual marriages. Neither Mina nor Jonathan have any more power over the other than the other has over them. They are equals, both mutually in love and mutually intelligent and productive. At the same time, it's fairly non-traditional for three suitors of the same woman to become very good friends. In most traditional narratives of gothic fiction you'd probably find a dual for the Lady's hand, a secret love, some kind of tragic heartbreak or something like that but these are "19th century up to date with a vengeance" young men who will not be so silly. Not to mention the fact that the group mostly comes together because of the relationship between two women which is refreshingly modern. The technology, attitudes, and relationships of the heroes are what set them apart from the Count as well as what lets them succeed.

I just love the dichotomy between the withered villain trying to relive the glory of the ancient past while desperately holding onto expired ideals of bygone days vs the modern and up-to-date heroes making full use of modern technology and stereotype-breaking to defeat him. In a way it almost spits in the face of the very common romanticisation of the past that is especially common in gothic fiction where the pretty old castles and cathedrals make people forget about the endless supply of downsides to those time periods and how horrifically nightmarish it would have been to live in those times if you weren't part of an extremely tiny group of extremely powerful people

🌸 background: Hi! My name is Ren. 28. she/her. I'm part of a small discord server that centers on the members of BTS in a modern fantasy setting, particularly incorporating hybrids and abo/omegaverse elements. All characters are in their late twenties. The premise is that hybrids are considered rare. There are laws that limit what they are able to do. Some are pets, have owners/guardians, or have had challenging exoeriences, but a few have used their popularity to become celebrities. So each member has an area that they established a name for themselves in, whether modeling, dancing, education, social justice, etc. They have come together to find ways to collaborate to raise their profiles and hybrid treatment awareness, but to obviously become friends with others who have similar backgrounds and experiences.

The characters communicate through an ic group chat, but each also maintains ic social media accounts. There is also an area for lit writing. The server will remain small (seven members of BTS, seven roleplayees) and all rpers are 21 or older. We want to stick with 21+. Even if this one plot does not interest you, feel free to reach out to just network. Often, someone will come up with an idea for the guys from BTS and go back to past partners to see if they may be interested in participating. Future ideas are not limited to fantasy, hybrids, abo, etc. I also would possibly be open to discuss one-on-ones, but this does not include ocs or mxf pairings.

🌸 character(s) needed: Jimin. Though if you are interested in either Seokjin or Hoseok, you can still contact me and I'll pass it along to the server owner. Your character's background (type of hybrid, abo subgender, how he became famous, etc) would be one hundred percent up to what you want to do with him, though we're here to help!

🌸 other details: Please do not come in with a set ship preference. Instead, I would say to be open to getting to know everyone because I can't make any promises that you will get to rp the pairing. NSFW is possible, but plot over porn is <3. All pairings are mxm. No ocs are allowed on the server, but if you are open to networking with some of us, it could happen in one-on-ones. Someone is also bound to come up with another server idea, or you can, so none of us are limited to this setting. I would like to caution against super submissive, needy, or dramatic characters. We ask about limits at the beginning, so just know that we will respect yours.

My first participation in an ongoing Whumptober, and especially in art! (It's still the 13th where I live, is it where you guys are, too?)

Usually I just upload fics where I used prompts from the past years. I kinda rushed this, and I'm not very good at drawing things without references, so don't come for me, please 🙈 I only just started with digital art, I usually draw on paper...

Anyways, since I can't help myself, there's also a short snippet I wrote, just to ... set the mood, explain the context of this pic, idk, it got a little out of hand ... enjoy!

TW: homophobia/slurs, depictions of violence, "slight" SA (unwanted touching)

"Where is Nick? We've been waiting for ages!", Tao whined. To be fair, they had already been waiting for 20 minutes at this point.

"How long does it take for him to use the loo? It wasn't that far away!"

Charlie checked his phone. "I don't know ... he didn't send a message either. Maybe he just ran into someone he knows?"

It was the first pride event all of them visited, together. Well, all of them is wrong, Sahar and Imogen spent the day ... somewhere else? They didn't say, but they wanted to try to show up to the party in the evening. By now it was almost 9 pm though and the others weren't sure if they were really going to show. The teens had to leave the club at 12 am, being minors and all, so they needed to make do with what time they had.

Tara and Darcy went on a little roadtrip together, so they couldn't be there either.

"Maybe you should call him", Elle suggested, while fixing her dress in a shop window. Isaac looked up from the book he was reading. "Maybe you guys should chill. We still have time. The party is not gonna start for another 10 minutes and the club is just down the street."

Charlie hesitated, but then grabbed his phone again. Truth be told, he was getting a little worried. "I think I'll call him."

Nick passed the dark shop windows on his way back to his friends. The bi-flag he wore around his neck softly billowed in the wind as a small group of older - and drunk - men bumped into him. "Oh, sorry", Nick said, event though he felt that they could have watched where they were going, too.

Swaying, one of the young men, turned to him. "Watch your step, faggot ..."

Normally, Nick thought he was pretty resilient to people trying to bully him, but here, right now, he felt a little alone and vulnerable. "I don't want any trouble ...", he mumbled, taking a step back.

The older guys started to surround him. "Oh, really? Well, maybe we do."

Nick was always fairly sure he was able to hold his own in a fight, if it came to it; not that he particularly liked fighting ... But he was outnumbered, by far.

The dark-haired man who insulted him grabbed him by the collar and pushed him into a nearby alleyway. Most of the others blocked the way out, snickering quietly.

"My friends are waiting for me, please", Nick practially begged, but the stranger didn't even grace him with an answer. He immediatly threw a punch, hitting him squarely in the face.

"Ugh..." Nick's head snapped back, he felt blood gushing out of his nose as he toppled over. This pain was nothing compared to the kicks that rained down on him afterwards though, hitting him in his chest as some of the other men joined their friend. One particularly nasty kick got him in his face. The pain that exploded behind his forehead and his eye blinded Nick for a second.

At some point he felt his flag being ripped off his back. The stranger knelt down next to the teenager and pushed the opened button up shirt aside. Nick started throwing weak punches in the general direction of the man. "... No ..."

He simply evaded them. "Oh, not so fond of men touching you now, are you?", he sneered, when suddenly, Nick's phone started buzzing. The dark-haired stranger pulled the phone out of his pocket and laughed at the screen, which was lit up with a picture of Nick and Charlie. "Look, it's that fag's boyfriend! Should we answer?"

"No!", Nick screamed, at least he tried to. It came out more of a whisper, thanks to his hurting ribs.

The older man threw the phone at the wall across from them, where it went dark upon impact.

A little voice in the back of Nicks mind told him his mum would be mad about that later, but realistically, she would probably not be mad at him.

"We should get going", one of the other men suddenly said. The main attacker checked his watch. "You're right. What should we do with you, though? Can't leave you running around telling people about this, now can we?"

Nick didn't like where this was going. At all.

From the back of his pants, the stranger procured a flip knife. The blade was illuminated menacingly by the streetlights from outside the alley.

"Best of luck to you, fag."

With that, he thrust the blade deep into Nick's upper stomach.

A load groan ripped itself from the ginger's throat as the blade swiftly cut into his flesh and, just as easily, glided right back out. Blood welled up from the wound and started running down his body in warm rivulets, staining his white cotton shirt and blue jeans a dark crimson color.

The stranger quickly stood back up and, together with his mates, left Nick to bleed out, all by himself.

Heavy breathing filled the alleyway as the teen just stayed on the ground, one hand pressed to his bleeding side. I can't stay here ... I need to get help...

Very slowly Nick got up off the ground, leaning on the cold walls for support. Broken phone and dirty flag forgotten, he made his way out of the alleyway, onto the empty street. Of course, just his luck, that there's not a single soul wandering around this evening.

Sighing softly, the teenager began the agonizing trip back to his friends.

"He's not picking up", Charlie told the others, his worry growing by the minute. Something had to be wrong. What if he was lost, what if he was sick or hurt or -

"I'm sure everything is fine", Elle answered, grounding her friend with a touch of her hand on his shoulder and silencing this never-ending spiral of doom in his head. She's probably right. What could have possibly happend...?

The friends were waiting for a few more minutes, and definitely late to the party by now, when suddenly, Nick emerged from the shadows, right around the corner.

Charlies inital relief was short-lived though, when he saw the state his boyfriend was in. Blood was staining his clothes, his skin ...

Their friends seemed to be in similar states of shock.

Still leaning on the nearest wall for support, Nick's blurry vision caught sight of his friends, presumably waiting for him. The dizziness made it difficult to even stay upright at this point. His shaky legs had trouble holding him up.

"Charlie ...", he whispered.

Faster than the curly-haired boy thought possible, he started running. "Nick?"

The older boy started swaying, eyelids drooping. "I don't feel so good ..." His knees buckled and the last thing he heard was Charlie, screaming his name: "NICK!"

ive spent a long while wallflowering and participating in glips communities for a long while and i can tell you whatever ya need to know honestly. because id rather you and others not waste time speculating on things solely based on vague out of context logs and the speculation of others whove never participated in those groups.

the "scenes" are not primarily or in any way required to be any kind of therapy. they can deal with some emotionallt harrowing themes or be nothing but fun story, and noone has been coerced into roleplay that ive ever seen and it would be rediculous if they were, you cant start a roleplay scene without a character established and a place in the setting and scene they occupy, threatening someone to do all of that would be stupid as hell and to what end? if there are issues with a person in the server they are discussed like normal people, directly in appropriate out of character channels.

something ive observed here and kiwifarms is an obsession with a narrative of glip being a continuously dangerous person that needs constant combating.p

they have been making clear efforts to do better and connect to people even if you havent personally seen it. their priority is moving on from peoples harassment and i reccomend you do the same. youre not helping anyone. youre not calling for anything that hasnt already been adressed. youre gossiping and speculating over someone you feel deserves harm forever.

pengo has directly adressed them more thuroughly and productively than you ever will, plenty of people much closer to glip than you have discussed these things to them directly even if you and those around you cant handle even trying.

if you have any particular questions i can answer, but for the most part i beleive you need to move on and stop pretending you are helping or rescuing anyone by doing this.

I have spoken to multiple people who where pressured into participating in a scene that they did not wish to partake in and they have shared with me screenshots of the event - and it was always difficult for me to read because of how the person who showed me screenshots was treated. Like ok but HOLY SHIT you guys are fucking disturbingly vicious to each other in those scenes. Please seek help from a licensed professional especially if you believe that behavior is normal or "appropriate".

I actually now manage a Discord community and you know how we deal with users that cause problems? Fucking privately. It's not a spectacle for on-lookers who may or may not be involved in a second dedicated channel just for looking on.

We only send one person to talk with the individual in question so they don't have 2 or more people jumping on them at once - my team and I coordinate what messages our point of contact sends to the problem user so nothing gets left out and what needs to be said gets said but it doesn't overwhelm the problem user by having multiple people jumping at them at once. This method also makes us respond slower which is a fucking good thing because it keeps the chat slower (Ergo - less emotionally driven and keeps both them and my team calm) and makes it more likely that we can address the problem in a more concise and to the point way. Because let me tell you having multiple people piling in on someone all with extremely long-ass messages is extremely overwhelming on the receiving end and causes more problems in the long run.

Problems ranging from the confrontation method actually being rather ineffective in actually solving any problems as its incredibly overwhelming and embarrassing (its a spectacle that multiple people watch and partake in, remember) to the end user to the point where the core issue that needs to be resolved is likely to be lost like a needle in a haystack. What this means is that the only real way a Scene can potentially curb problem behavior is by intimidating the end user making them overall more docile in the community because they don't want to deal with that shit again. To problems ranging to the scene method of problem solving is fucking abusive and it's not okay to be abusive to the end user, dipshits.

But sure it makes sense that since you - a single individual - didn't see whats happening as bad then that means every single person I spoken to who said they felt pressured to participate with screenshots in hand of how horribly they were treated are just lying. I'd cite specifics - but I'm not interested in putting them in your groups abusive cross hairs again.

When Glip stops facilitating dangerous hurtful behavior like this is when this blog gets removed. I'm hardly around these days but I still know enough recent information from those Glip has hurt to know that Glip is still an active danger to people that people need to be aware of before they interact in Glips communities. You say I'm not helping anyone and that might be true since I cannot keep this blog active enough to the degree it needs to be to reach people before they interact with Glip because of my own mental well-being.

I have seen Pengo actively participate and facilitate the abusive behavior I take issue with. I have spoken to former members (note:PLURAL) of Glips communities that Pengo has deeply hurt by using his position in Glips communities. If you believe Pengo (and by extension - Glips) method of problem solving productive let alone effective then again I mean this sincerely - seek help.

hi guys,

when it comes to memes. please only reblog the meme if you’re going to also send out messages. we have gotten messages for that when it comes to memes, some have expressed that they don’t feel included in them when they reblog it. and that’s something we will not tolerate. we want everyone to feel included here!

but also remember that some of the muns live in different time zones or they don’t want to take part of the memes which is fine. they don’t need to send out something if they don’t participate in a meme. however even if you don’t put your roles into the part of answering, we always encourage to send some out for fun!

we will be having two memes a week as of now. a meme will always be posted on Thursday and a random meme will be posted Sunday-Wednesday. when it comes for a group week vacation or an event on meme day we will post something if everyone would like a meme after the vacation or event is done.

Magician from Mars: The Lost Caper

The following is an excerpt from the journal of Dr. Daniel Garret. Given the change in format to a normal diary entry, I believe this may have been an early draft of a letter written for the “Message the Magician” campaign in 1980 (he is prone to writing early drafts in his journal, as seen with the Robin's Nest Plague entry). People all across America were asked to write messages for Jane Gem (otherwise known as the Magician from Mars) and send them to the National Caper Society so that they could launch those messages into space (not specifically in the direction of Mars since we knew by then that she wasn’t literally from Mars like she said in the radio interviews). They did this hoping that, maybe, Jane would return to Earth after reading them.

I think one of the best things to come out of my Capering career was meeting you, Jane. Sure, there were many Capers I respected, I’ve even befriended one or two, but you always struck me as the nicest one… which was great because you were definitely the most powerful one. Give a man a gun, tell him to fire it forward, I bet you could outpace the bullet. If a car charged your way, the Car would probably be the only thing that was injured. And you could fly! Most of the Capers were just men in tights and capes, sometimes punching people, sometimes using guns… one guy used a boomerang I think, remember him? That guy who just skulked around in this weird half-red-half-black getup thinking he was above everyone else, going on those wackadoo rants about, I dunno, probably Ayn Rand? Turns out his name was Bart Hill! Poor guy had to spend his whole life with that name, no wonder he wore a mask. I saw him at a book store once, looking just as miserable as I assumed he’d be.

Anyway, you were powerful, so so powerful, maybe more so than anyone should be… but it was fine when you had that power. You loved everyone on Earth. I don’t know how you did it, there are some pretty awful people out there, but you saw the best in everyone, and I think you tried to elevate all of us to your level. It’s a shame that none of us could reach your height when you were here. But look, thousands of people are writing you letters, I think we’re ready to learn from you now.

Later (possibly months later), Dr. Daniel Garret wrote a piece in his journal that seems to be in response to an article from December 19th, 1980 by the Daily Oculus. The headline was “A Weak America Begs for the Magician’s Return”. In contrast to the Daily Oculus’ modern mission statement, back then the paper was decidedly more conservative and so took a negative perspective on things like her refusal to participate in the Vietnam war, and also hones in on her regrettable response to a group of people crowding her in 1965 (otherwise known as the Halford incident).

I imagine Jane must feel a bit like Coriolanus, faced with a public who will change their opinions on her on a dime. One minute they beg for her to lead them, the next they’re all but ready to throw her out of Rome just because of one very loud person. And none of it's her fault. Despite all the people around her have done, she doesn’t hate anyone.

People go on and on and on about how she was cowardly, or she didn’t go far enough, or how she came off as patronising, and how her leaving was proof of some sort of hypocrisy on her end. Do you want to know why she left? I was there, I can tell you what happened.

We were at a cafe. She needed to talk to me. Apparently, she had broken up with Maxwell, and I think that was for the best. I didn’t think it was odd for her to fall for him, most people fall for a Maxwell once in their lives, but I did always think it was odd that Maxwell was interested in her… but then again, he was a rather odd man at that point. Apparently, the final straw was that he kept accusing her of being Fantomah; I can see the parallels (they’re both blonde and have powers beyond comprehension) but Jane actually cared about people, and I always got the impression she only had a set number of powers, whereas Fantomah could conceivably end the world if she wanted to.

Unfortunately, despite the thick glasses she was wearing, she did get recognised… I always thought she should’ve worn a mask when Capering. People started crowding around her, even more so once she left the Cafe. They started off by just asking pleasant questions, and she stayed around for a bit. More people gathered. She clearly wanted to leave, but she never could make herself a burden to others. It went on for a bit. A very warm day that day. Sweltering. Eventually, one person asked her about the Vietnam war again. People had been pestering her about it ever since she started Capering, but they got really incessant once the US got involved. She said her usual response of war not really being her area, then some lughead burst in, big bravado, going on and on about how there were people dying in Vietnam and how she could easily fix it.

She said she knew this, but before she could finish her sentence the lughead pounced on it by saying she knew people were dying and was doing nothing about it. She was really uncomfortable now, trying to walk away. A couple of people in the crowd grew angry, but most of all was the lughead, who was basically trying to fight her. She could fly, but I think she didn’t want to risk more people seeing that Jane was actually the Magician from Mars. Part of the crowd parted to let her go, but others started to follow her… she just wanted to walk away, she was offering the people there a chance to avoid conflict… but then that lughead had to grab her shoulder. It was a hot day, she had a stressful week breaking up with a man who was a handful at the best of times, and now was in a stressful situation, all the while being angrily asked the complex and frustrating question of whether or not to take part in a war… so she pushed the man’s hand away.

She has to actively think about holding back her strength. She told me that once, but I never appreciated it until I saw the day she was too stressed to think about it. It was just a quick flick, something that wouldn't even hurt him if a regular human did it... but Jane wasn't that. I'm not even sure she was human, to be honest. The man let out a horrifying scream as bones crunched inside his skin. I remember Jane’s eyes going wide, tears filling them as she saw what she had done. “I’m sorry…” she whimpered before flying up into the sky. Later, she called a radio station to announce that she was leaving the Earth forever… she also reiterated that she was sorry, and said that she forgave that lughead. “He didn’t know what he was doing. Neither do I apparently… I can’t be on your planet anymore if that’s the case.”. Those words haunt me and they should haunt the rest of you. She was the best Caper, one of the few that kept doing it after the 50s. Despite not being from here, she was more human than the rest of us... and now she's gone.

Well at least to my knowledge, incase your behind the veil yes this is made from actual foundation employees with permission from the 05's themselves,,, well not entirely but they said something similar enough

Well, I should probably get this Intro post started, here we go!

First off

Who are we?

Were the SCP foundation! At least to people behind the veil but you probably aren't behind it so for you the foundation is the men in black the Illuminati a secret government agency although we're not here to make your life harder or do weird shit to make a new world order, no we're here to protect you yes you reading this whoever you are whatever you do, you remember fairy tales told to you as a child right? Fantasy with wizards and princesses stuck in high towers? Elf's and fairy's in mystical woodlands? Well there real practically all of it but it isn't given the same child-friendly treatment because most things that are behind the veil want to kill you, so we shield humanity from them by putting them in overly complicated boxes so they (hopefully) never see the light of day again

But why?

Good question! Answer is most could probably kill all of us 3x over next question

Whats the veil?

I kid the veil is what we call what separates your normal world from our fucked up fantasy keeping the normal citizen from learning about the soul-sucking demon that if escaped could murder half of China in a day it's what makes sure that modern society can exist without the fear of being annihilated down to your atoms at least in stable countries, it's also what allows us to do our jobs because sometimes for the greater good great evils need to be committed

Basia- one of our botanists, usually helping people with the health of their poor little cactus plants but when he does have a job to do by God does he do it he'd be able to get you an exact care plan for any anomalous plant you can think of horrible with people though I have to question why they signed up for this

Numbers- they handle most of the backend server stuff with Alexandria I don't know much about them I didn't even know they had a name till they signed up I don't interact with them alot if I do it usually means something has gone to shit with internal servers, so no time for chatting

Alexandria- Our very own artificial intelligence! Or officially an A.I.C. but same thing, she's what helps us keep our site Running! Also the sweetest person to talk with if you've got a question with the foundation or our site in general she's the one to ask! Although I've been told she's had quite the rocky history,,,

Rust Compiler Performance Triage

A relatively quiet week for performance, with the notable exception of "Avoid GenFuture shim when compiling async constructs #104321" which brought sizeable wins on a number of stress test benchmarks. It probably won't be of huge benefit to most codebases, but should provide smaller wins to folks with large amounts of async-generated futures.

Hey guys! Applications are opening from November 11th to 18th! We encourage you to read the general guidelines and for writing and art pieces before applying. Guidelines will be reposted on the actual application post as well. Feel feel to message mods ( @subterra-rose @majormeilani ) or send an ask to this blog if there is any confusion.

General:

All communication will be done through Discord due to the nature of this project. Mods will message you within a few days once applications have closed with the link to join.

Please submit the finished piece with the account(s) you want to be credited under and an icon to represent you.

OCs are fine to include in your piece, but please keep the AHIT characters as the main focus of the piece.

Totally optional, but feel free to submit a small blurb about your piece (2-4 sentences)! This will be attached to the piece at the bottom with your icon.

Artists (illustrations/comics):

Pieces should meet the minimum dimensions of 2500px/8.5in by 3300px/11in (letter size paper!) Ideally, send as a .png or .tiff

Please keep in mind that pieces that do not fit the dimensions will have to be rescaled and mods cannot ensure image quality will be the same.

Please sign somewhere on the piece! I want the art to be credited correctly. If you don’t, I’ll add a small watermark with the account you want to be credited.

Writers:

Each piece of allotted a space of 5 pages or 2500 words. If you feel as though what you want to write would go over this amount, contact one of the mods and we can discuss it.

Dreblr Secret Santa Event 2021!

in honour of a few mcyt secret santa events floating around, i thought i’d plan one specifically for dreblr !!

if you’re interested, keep reading !! below the cut i’ll talk about rules and explain it more in detail :))

WHAT IS A SECRET SANTA EVENT? the idea is that a group gets together and are randomly assigned another person from that group to buy (or in this case create) a christmas/holiday present for them !! for the case of dreblr, those that want to participate will be given a name of another random person from dreblr to create a holiday present for !! in return, you’ll be given an anonymous gift from someone else in dreblr too.

the form leaves space to specify what content you’re happier making / receiving, and i’ll assign you to the correct person !! at the end of the deadline (december 5th, december 15th if you need an extension), you’ll give a gift, receive a gift, and hopefully have a good day in general :DD

TIMELINE:

the cut off to apply for this is WEDNESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER (midnight gmt)

you’ll know who you will be making a gift for by thursday 11th / friday 12th!

a casual, non-stress checkup will be done on nov 20th - 25th to make sure nobody is super behind or stressed (or to see how i can help stop you being Stressed lol)

the deadline to finish is december 5th, and if you need an extension, december 15th. if you need longer than this, talk with me!! :)

when all gifts are finished, they’ll be given out around december 20th (if this changes i’ll let you guys know haha)

FURTHER RULES:

the word counts / etc stated in the form are the minimum we’re accepting to make sure everyone feels they’ve got an equal present!! if you want to go beyond that, PLEASE be my guest, but try not to go under :))

abide by people’s triggers and don’t create them anything that goes against the triggers they state (they’ll be linked to you when i tell you who your gift is for).

you’ll have 24 hours to respond after i send you your person so that i know you got the message!! if you don’t respond i will take you out of the event whoops

when your gift goes out, make sure to tag the person in that gift, and also to make it public (and make sure you post it on tumblr, though you can also post elsewhere) !! we can use the hashtag #dreblr gifts 2021 to find others works too :D
