Favorite part about the new Pokemon games so far is that absolutely no one questions where on earth your big mysterious sandwich-loving lizard boy came from.

Well, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been out for over a week now, so you know that means? New Poke Waifu season is in its full effect now! While you are all fantasising about Professor Sada (who I sadly will never see in my game because I picked Violet version) and instantly putting yourself on an FBI watch list with Iono, just by looking at this pic I had XJKenny draw for me you can already guess who my Gen 9 gal is. The head of the Paldean Pokemon League and now host to everyone’s favourite Marvel Symbiote Venom, Geeta. You know where I’m going with this! The moment I saw Geeta for the first time I instantly feel in love with her design. There’s just something about her design with the black outfit and blue gloves paired with her long black hair with blue and gold highlights and those gorgeous blue eyes and yellow… iris is it? I could be wrong about what that is since I know about anatomy about as well as Imortan Joe in Mad Max Furry Road is at knowing anything about Norse Mythology. Regardless of whatever they are Geeta is a beauty and I love her. Let’s be real, most of us knew she was going to be the champion before Scarlet and Violet even came out. You don’t have a super pretty girl like her in your game without her being the Champion thanks to previous examples like Cynthia and Diantha. Or even being a villain like Lusamine.
And now she has the Venom Symbiote! Not only giving her Venom’s powers of web swinging, super strength, and shapeshifting into different clothing (seriously, how many of you forget the symbiote can do that?) but she looks just as appealing as she does in her normal outfit. And can even be Paldea’s new vigilante super heroine if she wants. Considering half the crap that happens in this series from manipulative criminal’s guilt tripping everyone to release there Pokemon, narcissistic terrorists trying to restart the universe, two groups of eco terrorists almost screwing up the eco system fighting each other and a group that genuinely wants to commit mass genocide the Pokemon world sure as hell could use some superheroes! Paldea’s already got one with Symbiote Geeta! Or just lounge around in it looking sexy! Personally, I’d take advantage of the powers it would give me and go web swinging!
Artist is XJKenny. Since I’ve gotten a commission of a character from it and have been playing it since launch last week and I am known for being a Pokemon enjoyer, I guess I could give my brief thoughts on Scarlet and Violet. Not a full review but maybe like a minute or two of my thoughts. *Deep breath. *
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let’s just get this out of the way right now. This game is broken! Like, really broken. Granted, some of the really awful bugs people have reported I’ve been lucky not to get but I’ve still seen Pokemon spawn in trees, gotten stuck on geometry while riding Miraidon, had the game ask me if I wanted to respawn even though I’ve only walked down a small flight of stairs, NPC’s walk though my Pokemon in one story vital battle I can’t talk about because spoilers and even had my game crash after a gym battle! Granted it was a Gym battle I sweeped pretty easily with my fully evolved grass starter but still. I haven’t played this game in co-op yet but apparently the bugs are worse there! I get why this game is as broken as it is. Gamefreak were essentially trying to make a game three times as big as Sword and Shield and Legends Arceus but either didn’t have enough time to iron out some of these issues or it was just two ambitious for the team who might not of worked on a game this big before. Personally, I feel like they should have just taken the L and delayed the game by a few months to iron out the bugs so that it could be as polished as it can.
Okay, putting the glitches aside do I think Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are good Pokemon games? Yes, I do! I love the direction they decided to take with the game this time opening up the game world to explore fully after getting though the tutorial area. It’s actually a lot like Zelda Breath of the Wild in a way. You can’t go straight to the final battle from the start like you can in Breath of the Wild but your free to explore the Paldea region. The trainers do have set levels though so you can’t just go to say, Eri who’s the strongest of the Team Star Bosses, and expect it to be easy. I do kinda wish the trainers would adjust to your level to really make it feel like the game is giving you more freedom but with how I played I did most of the stuff in the lower area of the map first and working my way up. That’s another thing, there are three separate paths you can take as well. Victory Road which is the classic Pokemon experience of fighting 8 gym leaders to take on the league, Starfall Street where you fight to take down the five bosses of Team Star and my favourite The Path of Legends not just because of the story around it but also because it’s about fighting Titan Pokemon which are stronger and bigger versions of normal Pokemon a lot like the Trials in Sun and Moon and as some you all might know already, Sun and Moon are my favourite mainline Pokemon games. Actually, I liked Starfall Streets story as well but it’s a reason I can’t talk about without spoiling why. Victory Road is fine, and the Gym leaders are great two but, and this is no doubt going to piss off a lot of people, but I actually think Sword and Shield had the best gyms in it because of how they were like this massive sport that the Galar region was super into and how the Gym Leader fights had crowds of spectators.
I’m a little mixed on the new Pokemon they introduced. On one hand I love the starter Pokemon and their evolutions, hell one of my favourites this gen is Sprigatio’s final evolution Meowscarada, the Legendries and some of the Paldein forms. On the other hand, there’s also ones like an actual tumbleweed and literally a car made of rocks and the incredibly phallic Paldein Dugtrio. Not to mention the new art style for in game. Not the official artwork for the game itself, that looks fine, I mean the models in game of the human characters. Sometimes they look fine to me other times they look off to me and I’m not sure if that’s a common thing to think but it’s how I feel. Again, gonna trigger people saying this but I think Sword and Shield has way better character models. Although, performance issues aside Paldeia looks quite lovely. I wouldn’t say this is the best-looking region nor my favourite but it looks good enough that I can’t help but say “Yeah, I’d take a vacation here.”
So anyway, that’s just my brief thoughts on Scarlet and Violet. It’s a great game with great ideas that really just needed a bit more time to be polished but hopefully as I’m writing this, they are working on patching this game. And hopefully it doesn’t take them a whole year or two to patch it and fix it! I’m looking at you Rockstar Games and the GTA Trillogy!

@febuwhump day three: imprisonment
definitely not a lizard
Summary
“I don’t understand why I have to be here, Mr. Stark,” said Peter, as Tony pulled the car into the school parking lot.
“Because this is entirely your fault.”
“I think entirely is a little unfair.” Peter took a glance back at Nessie, who snuggled with her pink stuffed bunny. She had gotten so big that she covered the entire front seat of the car. “I’m not the one who suggested Morgan bring her pet dinosaur for show and tell.”
“But you are the reason she has a pet dinosaur.”
“Don’t think enough blame is pinned on OsCorp for that one, actually.”
or
Peter ransacks an OsCorp lab for fun and finds Morgan a friend in the process.
OR
The origin story of the monster that lives in lake behind the Stark house.
Bits of broken glass crunched under Peter’s feet, and under his mask, he smiled, looking around at the OsCorp lab he’d just ransacked. Jameson was right. He was a menace, and it felt great.
Good, healthy destruction was soup for the soul, and nothing felt more soul-mending then laying waste to the place responsible for so much animal cruelty. After taking a few seconds to admire his handiwork, he turned to leave, but his eyes caught a cage with a small lizard locked inside.
“Don’t worry, buddy,” said Peter, striding across the lab, stepping on even more broken glass. “I’ll get you out there. Put you somewhere you can be free.”
He picked up the small cage, and Karen alerted him Tony had sent him a couple of text messages reminding him about Morgan’s birthday party, telling him to be late. That they wouldn’t be waiting for him to cut the cake.
It was a sinking realization. The remembering her birthday, and consequently, remembering he hadn’t remembered to buy her a present. Between Spider-Manning and school and friends and academic Decathlon, his life was filled with great distractions.
The lizard jumped around in the cage, and Peter got a brilliant idea. He only hoped Mr. Stark saw the genius of it.
*
Peter wasn’t late to the party, but him and the lizard were the last to arrive.
He parked his car behind Bucky’s motorcycle. He swung his door open, and unbuckled the passenger’s side seatbelt, freeing the cage from the strap keeping it safe from the bumpy ride out to the lake house.
He just hoped Ms. Lizard wasn’t too shaken up. He hoped she was ready to meet her new family.
As it turned out, her new family wasn’t quite ready to meet her. Tony’s head snapped in Peter’s direction as if he was the one with the extra sense for danger. His eyes narrowed in on the lizard cage tucked under Peter’s arm, and he marched through party guests scattered about the yard and towards him.
“What the hell is that?”
“It’s a lizard,” said Peter. He held out the cage, balancing it on the palms of his hands. “Isn’t she cool?”
“Please tell me,” said Mr. Stark, “that thing isn’t supposed to be Morgan’s present?”
Peter gasped, and moved the lizard away from him. “Mr. Stark, she isn’t a thing.”
“She’s not a present, either.”
“You and Pepper were just saying Morgan needs to learn about responsibility,” said Peter. “So really a pet is a perfect present.”
“No we weren’t,” said Tony. “We were saying you needed to learn about responsibility after you forgot to put gas in your car and we had to come save you on the side of the highway.”
“Well maybe if I had a pet lizard as a kid I’d remember to put gas in my car.”
“Oh, so it’s May’s fault?”
“No,” said Peter. “That’s not what I meant!”
Tony released a long, annoyed breath, and rubbed his temple. “Are you serious right now? With the lizard? Really couldn’t have thought of a less annoying birthday present?”
“It was sort of an impulse thing,” said Peter, and he explained to Tony about OsCorp. He explained the destruction of the animal testing lab, because he knew he would approve of that sort of inconvenience being bought upon Norman Osborn. “So you see, I couldn’t just leave her there in animal prison. She deserves a home.”
“Pete, not this home,” said Tony. “Find someone else to care for your friend, and get her out of sight before Morgan -”
An ear shattering scream filled the air. Party guests, made up of mostly old and new Avengers paused and cleared the path for Morgan Stark, who charged at them in her brand new ballet slippers.
“IS SHE MINE?”
“Uh, well -” said Peter, shuffling his feet around, feeling awful.
“I LOVE HER,” said Morgan. She put her knees in the dirt, and peered into the cage. The lizard stared back at her. “I’ve always wanted a lizard.”
“You have never once said you want a lizard,” said Tony.
“Well I didn’t know I wanted one until I had one,” she told him, with a tone that suggested it was very obvious.
Tony closed his eyes. “Fine. You may keep the stupid reptile, but you’ve both responsible for keeping it fed and the cage clean, got it?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Tony walked away, and Peter popped the lid to the cage open, so Morgan could get a closer look at her new pet.
*
Two weeks passed, and Nessie no longer fit in the glass cage Peter had lifted from OsCorp. That was okay, according to Morgan, because Nessie liked sleeping at the end of her bed way more than cold, smooth glass, anyway.
According to Tony, it was a nightmare. He was terrified of the strange noises Nessie hissed at him every morning when he tried to wake Morgan up for school.
Peter sat at the kitchen table, minding his own business and eating cereal in a sleepy fog, when Tony stormed into the kitchen waving his bloody finger around.
“That’s it,” said Tony. He twisted the facet, and ran steamy water over the bite marks. “I’m calling Bruce. That thing definitely isn’t a lizard.”
“Maybe Nessie hates you because you keep calling her a thing,” said Peter, with a mouth full of cereal.
Tony grumbled and poured peroxide over his hand.
Later, Bruce showed up with a homemade DNA testing kit and a whole lot of questions.
“...you really thought it was a good idea to let Peter and Morgan keep an unknown species from OsCorp?”
“It was kind of an impulse thing,” gritted Tony, glaring at Peter, who patted Nessie’s head, distracting her from Bruce poking her scaly skin and drawing her blood.
Bruce worked fast, and it felt like hardly any time at all had passed before he was scratching his head, staring at the results in disbelief.
“I think… I think Nessie’s a dinosaur.”
“Oh great,” said Tony. “OsCorp is genetically engineering dinosaurs. Just what we need.”
“Has Norman never watched Jurassic Park?” asked Peter, with a frown. “He really should… it’s a great film.”
“Of course he’s seen Jurassic Park. He’s just too stupid not to take it’s warning and not put dangerous beasts on our planet.”
“I don’t think Nessie’s dangerous,” said Bruce. “She’s definitely from the prehistoric age, genetically, but she lacks any predatory instinct. Looks like OsCorp has successfully domesticated dinosaurs.”
“Leave it to Osborn to create completely boring dinosaurs,” said Tony. He held up his now bandaged finger. “If she’s not dangerous, why did she bite me?”
“Have you considered she just doesn’t like you?”
Tony growled, Nessie hissed more of her baby dinosaur roars, and Peter pet her, calming her down and marveling at how awesome it was to have a dinosaur running around the lake house.
“Dr. Banner,” said Peter. “If they can make dinosaurs, do you think they could engineer, like, a Pikachu?”
“A what?”
“You know, Pokemon?”
Bruce continued looking confused, and Tony continued looking like he was in great, neverending pain.
*
Tony parked the car, and grabbed Nessie’s leash from the dashboard. He managed to click it around her collar without losing an arm, or getting his hand bitten. They were working on their relationship, and in Peter’s opinion it was going pretty well, as long as Tony remembered to feed her hamburgers every once in a while.
It was a slow walk to the school’s entrance. Nessie was a faster swimmer than walker, and Peter often wondered if she wouldn’t be happier living in the lake.
“Okay,” said Tony. “You’re gonna have to carry her. I can’t take walking at this snail pace.”
“Why do I gotta carry her?”
Tony looked at Peter like he was dense. “Because I would break my back, super-genius.”
“Fine, fine,” said Peter, scooping Nessie up in his arms. She licked his face in appreciation.
They got looks from everyone who spotted them in the hallway, as they marched towards Morgan’s classroom. Once they got there, it was impossible for Morgan’s classmates to focus on anything else besides the dinosaur, so they got to start show-and-tell right away.
Peter stood next to Tony and Morgan up at the front of the class, dozens of tiny eyes staring at him. He handed the end of Nessie’s leash to Morgan, and she plopped down in front of her feet.
“This is my pet dinosaur -” started Morgan, only for Tony to cut her off with a series of loud coughs and a correction.
“Reptile,” he said. “Dinosaur’s just a family joke. They definitely don’t exist anymore.”
“Uh, Mr. Stark,” said Mrs. Presley. “What kind of reptile is Nessie, exactly?”
“A big one,” he answered, then urged Morgan to continue.
“Nessie likes bubble baths,” she said.
Peter could tell from the look on Tony’s face that he was having flashbacks from the time he’d walked into the bathroom and saw him and Morgan with a giant bubble gun, and Nessie in the tub filled with even more bubbles, snapping her jaws at the flying ones.
“And cheeseburgers,” she continued. “My big brother Peter rescued her from that mean green guy -”
“-the pet store owner!” Peter injected. “He was, umm, wearing a green polo, and kept her in a tiny cage.”
“Yeah, they were so mean to Nessie,” said Morgan. “Always poking her with needles and keeping her locked up, but then Peter got her for me for my birthday, and now we have lots of fun, even if it stresses my dad out sometimes.”
Morgan finished her speech, and Mrs. Presley whispered to Tony, asking him if it were safe for the children to pet the creature she was still convinced was something more than a reptile. He nodded. The children lined up, and after they each had a turn, Tony and Peter left with Nessie, once again, locked in Peter’s arms.
“I think it went well,” said Peter, once they were in the car. In the backseat, Nessie took a bite out of her pink bunny. “Maybe we should stop for burgers on the way home.”
*
Eventually, Nessie moved out of the house.
It happened over time, as she grew larger and larger, and became way too big to sleep on the end of Morgan’s bed. She grew so massive, Morgan understood it’d be cruel to keep her locked up in the house, especially when they had a perfectly good lake in the backyard.
So the lake became Nessie’s home, but it wasn’t like she didn’t come back to visit. She showed up, emerging from the lake to scare the hell out of Happy, on the occasions of family barbecue, enticed by the smells coming off the grill.
She showed up for Morgan on summer days, when her and Peter swam in the lake despite Tony’s concerns about flesh eating bacteria.
“You worry too much, Mr. Stark,” Peter would tell him.
And Tony would tell him that was impossible. It was a parent’s job to worry, and it would never quite be enough.
When the house got quiet, when Morgan aged out of the part of her life when her family was her entire world, and when Peter became busy with college and Spider-Man nonsense, Tony worried more.
Some nights he found himself wandering outside, firing up the grill, and throwing a few burgers for himself, and for Nessie, who could always be counted on to rise up out of the lake for a good burger.
As the sun set, casting an orangish glow over the lake,  he threw a burger out to Nessie and she ate with a snap of her jaw.
“You know,” Tony told her. “You’re not half bad, Ness.”
She walked towards him, and before Tony could react, licked him. Her giant, reptile tongue left dinosaur slavia and small bits of hamburger on his face and clothes.
“Really,” he said. “Just when we were starting to get along.”
Nessie put her head to the sky, and roared at the disappearing sun. Tony could only hope the neighbors wouldn’t hear her.

Unexpected Issues
You wake up a few hours later from your nap with your face all over the internet. A few major networks had picked up the story and now you were the mysterious challenger that helped Leon and Raihan. Several of the articles speculated about your relationship with the duo. Even more were asking questions they had no business knowing the answer to.
“Oh… shit...” you say as you gaze down at your phone.
“It’s going to be fine! Trust me!”
“There are articles speculating about our relationship Raihan!”
“So?”
“You may be used to the spot Mr. Gym Leader, but I am not! Plus what if I don’t make it through the challenges? I’ll be humiliated! What’s worse… every move I make is about to be documented! Oh… I need to sit down…”
“Oh!” Leon grabs a chair and sets it behind you just as you fall back, breaking your fall.
“Something will be more interesting tomorrow, I promise! Staying in the spotlight takes work! Although, you may want to keep the attention on you. Even if you don’t end up winning the League, having sponsors to endorse you is a great source of income. You could do a lot with the money from those.”
“Really?”
“Yeah… Do you think I wear this cape for the fun of it?” Leon asks as he indicates the logos on his infamous cape.
“I guess I never thought of it… I always just thought it was gaudy…”
Leon sputters but doesn’t reply and just goes back to his lunch looking a little crestfallen.
“I’m sorry Lee… That was mean… I’m just a little stressed but that’s no reason to be rude.”
Leon looks up in surprise and gives you a smile, “It’s okay, I know this is new for you.”
You pull yourself a little closer to the table the men are sitting at and rest your head on it. You feel someone begin to rub your back while another played with your hair. You feel yourself relax after a few seconds and heave a deep breath.
“I’ve just… been invisible for so long I don’t know if I know how to do this….” you say in a small voice.
“Just be you and they are going to love you, you don’t have to do anything else,” Leon says as he wraps an arm around you and pulls you into his side.
“Yeah,” Raihan says as he lays his head on the table to catch your eye, “You’re going to kill the competition and become famous anyway, you’re just getting a head start,” he says with a wink.
“But the RUMORS!” you wail, “I don’t want people to think that I’ve made it because I’m sleeping with the champion or one of the gym leaders! OR BOTH!” You say with wide eyes.
“At least it’s the most handsome gym leader…”
“No that’s Piers,” you say without missing a beat.
Raihan’s mouth falls open in offense before he screws it up into a pout.
“Oh… I’ve seen that face before… I’ve offended it…” you say with a Chesire cat-like smile.
“I thought we had something special… Now I know you just want me for my body.”
You shake your head while you chuckle and just roll your eyes, “You caught me…”
Raihan sends you a lazy smile, “There she is…”
“It’s going to be fine…” you hear Leon say as he regards you with that sweet look you’re beginning to associate with him.
“I’m going to have to do some training…” you mutter as you pick up your fork and begin to play with your food absentmindedly.
“Oh that’s right you still need to complete your team!” exclaims Leon, “This is going to be fun!”
“What is?”
“Helping you complete your team, and training them up! It will be just like when I was first starting out with Charizard… except he was a Charmander at the time…”
“Umm...Lee… what are you talking about?”
“I’m going to go with you.”
“Umm… No, you’re not,” you say slowly.
“I am. You had a run-in with a major criminal ring and they made you a target. They will try again to get Davine and you took one of their pokemon, you don’t think they aren’t going to want it back?”
“But...NO! I need to do this by myself, Leon! Also, your fans will have an actual Miltank if they know you’re traveling with me!”
“I’m leaving the uniform and cape at home and I’m just going to wear regular clothes.”
“You don’t think the rest of you is going to give away that you’re...YOU?!” You can feel your anger starting to build
“I think you need to calm down…”
“Bro...No,” Raihan says as he puts a hand on Leon’s shoulder to quiet him, “Don’t say that…”
“Calm down? You think I need to ‘calm down?’” you ask in a dangerous tone.
“Oh… I’ve made a mistake haven’t I?” Leon asks as he glances over his shoulder at his friend.
“Oh yeah…”
“Leon, I have waited my ENTIRE life for this moment, okay? I have literally worked at a dead-end job just to make ends meet and I have one shot at doing this right. ONE! I will NOT have anyone think I am any less deserving than every other challenger in this competition, OR that I am getting special treatment!”
“How does keeping you safe from an actual threat ruin these chances?”
“You’re the champion, okay? Everyone loves you, women adore you and they get vicious when they feel like someone is getting too close to their idol. They don’t care why you are with me Leon, the only thing they will see is a threat to their imagined relationship with you. And they are vicious. They would have no issue ruining me.”
“What if something happens to you? I’ll never forgive myself if you get hurt! This is more than just rumors on the internet, this is your life.”
“Leon… I need you to just trust me okay? I’m going to take a few days and do some training, you can hang around while I do that, but once I officially hit the first gym you need to make yourself scarce.”
Leon looks displeased at your terms but nods reluctantly, “I understand… I’ve got some business to take care of, I’ll see you when it’s time to head out,” his voice is chilly.
With that, the champion gets up and leaves, the door shutting behind him feels more final than it is.
You slump into a chair and run your hands down your face before you begin massaging your head.
“He’s not giving up is he?”
“Nope.”
“Ugh!”
“We’re just worried about you is all… That’s why we’re coming with you…” Raihan says as he casually takes another bite of his sandwich.
“We?”
He sends you a predator-like grin, “You don’t think I’m going to let him get the jump on me, do you?”
You just narrow your eyes, “What does that mean?”
His smile turns suddenly innocent, “Nothing princess…”
“Ummm hmmm…” You hum in disbelief.
It’s about an hour later when Raihan leads you down the street to the nearest store so he can replace your tent.
“Ah! This one will work!” he says as he points up at one, the store clerk helping you nods before he goes to the back to get the appropriate tent.
“Raihan… That’s huge…”
“Yeah! It even has a divider so you can have your own space, but we’re still right there!”
You frown at the fact that you don’t have a say in this.
“Come on, Princess! It’s not going to be that bad, okay? Once we’re out of the city and on the road it’s going to be much harder for anyone to find us. It’s not going to be as big of a deal as you think…”
“Don’t you guys have responsibilities?”
“Look… Those guys will come back and there will be more of them. They aren’t going to be easy to take on yourself, the sheer number Leon and I had to deal with was insane. You didn’t see it okay? You don’t know how many of them there are. It’s not that we don’t trust you, or think your capable, but we’re not going to let anything happen to you okay? So like it or not, we’re coming with you.”
You heave a sigh and tilt your head back, but you know he’s right.
“Damnit…”
“You get it now?”
“I’m going to have to apologize to Leon...again…” you huff as you follow Raihan up to the counter to pay. He picks up a few other things that he and Leon will undoubtedly need. You realize that it’s been years since the two have traveled on foot between the towns.
“It’s going to be fun!”
“I just wish I could go by myself… I feel like I’m going to be missing out on the experience.”
“Nah… You have a good bond with your pokemon. They love you and will do anything for you. Having a few friends along for the ride will be fine. Plus you’ll have the best trainers in the league to give you pointers!”
“I guess…” you mutter in annoyance.
“We’re going to have to stock up on more food… We should probably head to the store as well…” you think aloud.
Raihan chuckles as he grabs the bags from the clerk, “That’s the spirit!”
You let a small smile crawl onto your face, it’s hard to be upset for long with Raihan around. He has an easy-going and playful nature that keeps you happy. His energy is one of the reasons he’s so great at what he does.
After you pick up groceries, two of you meet back up with Leon at the Budew Inn. He’s not wearing his cape anymore and his usual snapback has been changed out for a different one, one that is solid black. He’s wearing a pair of black pants with a white button-down and a black jacket over it.
“Nice…” you say as you look him over in appreciation.
He gives you a smirk, “Not gaudy?”
You roll your eyes with a smirk as you walk over to him, “You’re still a dead giveaway, but it will have to do…”
He smiles proudly at your compliment nonetheless.
“Damn… I’m going to have to go up my game! I’m heading to change, I’ll be back in a second,” Raihan murmurs with a smirk as he passes the two of you, sending you a wink.
“Listen… Leon...I-”
“I know.”
“Huh?”
“I know you didn’t mean to get mad, and this isn’t what you expected your journey to be like… I’m sorry that you don’t get to have the carefree experience we did when we were kids. I just… can’t stand the thought of something happening to you, especially if I can do something to stop it,” he says as he takes a step towards you, his hands resting on your arms as he rubs up and down.
“You know… I always figured we would have had so much fun on our journey…” you say as you think back to all the battles the two of you had together when you were younger. A deep sense of regret washes over you, you adored Leon when you were younger. Do you still?
“Maybe this is just our second chance?” Leon asks as he gives you a smile.
“Yeah… I think it is…” you say as you gaze up into his eyes.
Raihan comes downstairs wearing a pair of navy track pants with a black tank under a different dragon inspired hoodie.
“How do I look, princess?”
“You look great Raihan,” you say with a soft giggle as you pull away from Leon. You regard both men standing before you and shake your head at the two of them. They just have no idea how to be discreet is all.
“Stop showing off! She doesn’t care what you look like!” you hear Leon say as he walks up behind you.
“What do you mean? Of course, she cares!”
“This is going to be a long journey, isn't it?” you ask no one as you walk out the door of the inn. The two bickering men rush out behind you as you just head back towards the wild area.
“Why does it feel like I’m starting my journey over?” questions Raihan as he follows behind you.
“It’s the excitement! For the first time in years, I think I know what freedom feels like,” laughs Leon as he stretches his arms above his head.
“Yeah I guess you two are pretty busy aren’t you?” you ask as you glance behind you.
“It’s not something you really notice until it’s been like two weeks and you haven’t had a day off…” Says Raihan as he looks out over the grassy field a wistful look on his face.
“So! What are we looking for?” asks Leon taking in his surroundings like it’s the first time he’s ever seen them.
You glance back at them and realize that they need this adventure just as much as you do.
“Honestly… at this point, I would like to round my team out… I’ve got a psychic type that will evolve into a psychic/fairy type, a dragon/dark type, a bug/flying type, a dragon that will evolve into a dragon/fighting type and a grass type.”
“So… a fire type would be good…” muses Leon.
“What about a water type? We could do some fishing!”
“Let’s just see what happens…” you murmur as you roam across the wild area.
You spend the day training your team while Leon and Raihan let their own team out to stretch. The two end up having mock battles while you explore and while you don’t think they are paying you any attention, they are never too far away.
Your current goal is to get Queenie battle-ready for Milo. So you have paired her up with Arum, your newly acquired Bounsweet. You’ve also paired up Hades with Serenity hoping that by helping him to focus through sounds and smells he will become a more confident battler. Davine just remains by your side watching the teams battle with uncertain curiosity. By the end of the day, you are surprised by the strides your team has made. Hades though not perfect, was able to remain calmer than before during the onslaught of attacks by Serenity. And Queenie, as to be expected of her typing, is growing rapidly. Arum is adjusting to her friends and seems to have become fast friends with Serenity already, the two huddle together and chirp back and forth to one another happily.
Setting up camp that night is a relaxing affair, and you have to admit that outside of the city and away from the crowds, the problems that seemed so large this morning seem so insignificant now. Raihan sets up the new tent while Leon gathers wood for the fire. His Charizard lights the wood aflame and you pull out the cooking utensils to get to work. Queenie is hovering around the pot as you slowly stir the broth and Hades is snapping at the ingredients you have laid out on the counter. Leon’s Haxorus is suddenly hovering over the pot as well watching more politely as you cook. You chuckle as he gently scolds Hades when he steals an oran berry from the pile. You aren’t surprised when Queenie notices Flygon and flies over to investigate the dragon as he hovers over his trainer helping with the tent. Davine is curled up next to Goodra while he talks with Leon’s Dragapult. You feel a sense of peace come over you and you can’t help but feel happy. Far happier than you have felt in many years.
When the tent is set up Raihan is behind you leaning over you as you stir the curry. You aren’t expecting the moment he discreetly whispers in your ears, “Everything looks delicious, especially you,” his lips brushing against the shell of your ear. You fight the blush as you swat him away, he gives you a devious smile and a laugh as he goes to cook the rice. You don’t notice the frown that mars Leon’s face at the interaction or the smirk Raihan sends his way.
When dinner is ready you divvy out the food and everyone sits down around the fire as a chill haunts the night air.
“I haven’t done this in forever…” Leon says as he gazes into the fire.
“It’s relaxing, isn’t it? Like going back to your roots,” Raihan supplies before he takes large bite out of his food.
You lean back against the fallen log you are sitting against and just take the moment in. Your pokemon are cuddled up around you, and while you are eager for them to grow and become stronger, this quiet moment is one you cherish. For once everyone, including the bickering hooligans Leon and Raihan, is quiet and you love it.
The silence is broken by a soft cry.
“Do you hear that?” you ask as the cry becomes louder.
“Yeah… Is it a pokemon?”
“If it is, it’s young!” you say as you get up. Serenity is already on your shoulder her little antenna twitching every now and then. She lets out a cry and points towards the right.
You set off into the darkness, Charizard’s tail lighting the way as you search for the pokemon making such a sound. You blink in surprise when you come upon a Toxel crying out in the darkness. You walk over to the baby pokemon and crouch down in front of it.
“You probably shouldn’t touch it,” Leon says as he crouches down next to you.
“But what if it needs help?!” you ask.
“Don’t worry… we’re not going to leave him here.”
“Here!” Raihan says as he pulls off his hoodie and hands it over to you.
You wrap the hoodie around the small pokemon and lift him into your arms. It stops crying out and just gazes up at you before snuggling against you drifting off to sleep. You blink down at it in confusion.
“It… fell asleep…”
“Well… at least we know you’re going to be a good mom?” questions Leon, as he helps you to your feet.
“I guess? That was anticlimactic...” you mutter as you begin to make your way back to camp.
“Are you going to keep him? He would be a great addition to your team.” Raihan asks as he watches the baby pokemon over your shoulder.
“How do you know it’s a boy?” you ask.
Raihan chuckles before he points down indicating that it is, in fact, a male.
“...Oh…”
Once you get back to camp you head over to your bag and gently tap the pokemon on the head with the pokeball. He doesn’t even wake up as his data is downloaded into the device.
“It would be nice if I could just… catch a pokemon the traditional way for once…” you huff as you gaze up at the duo on either side of you.
Both men just shrug in reply before they start cleaning up the area. You put the sleeping pokemon in the tent and help them. Once everything is completed for the night you all pile into the tent.
“Raihan this thing is huge!” you exclaim as you gaze around the huge tent.
“Yeah well… I’m a grown man who needs his space from other grown men… You’re welcome on my side of the tent anytime you want though,” Raihan says with says a smirk.
You roll your eyes at him, but you can’t help but be enchanted by the homey tent. There were separate ‘rooms’ with zippable dividers. Lanterns hung from the ceiling and the floor had sleeping bags along with extra pillows and blankets.
“Raihan! How did you fit all of this into your pack?!”
“It’s all collapsible,” he says with a shrug, “Plus only the best for my princess.”
Leon rolls his eyes in annoyance at his rival as he picks a corner and starts to set his own area up.
You huff as you set up your stuff into your own corner before grumbling to yourself, “Why is it so chilly?”
A moment later, a blanket is draped around you, “Here, I have an extra one that you can have.”
Leon wraps the blanket around you, pulling you into him before he rubs your arms with hands to generate heat.
“Here I’ll finish setting up for you while you get warm. I’ll see about getting an electric blanket tomorrow.”
“Oh? Leon you don’t have to do that!”
“Nonsense! I can’t have you getting sick on me!”
You gaze at Leon’s strong back and feel your face heat up before you chide yourself.
‘He’s just being nice! I can’t do that to Sonia…’ you think to yourself.
“Then again… if you don’t want the electric blanket… there are other ways to keep you warm…” Leon mutters in your ear as he passes you by.
Your eyes widen and you let out a squeak.
“Well good night guys!” you exclaim as you reach up and turn the lamp off. You practically dive into your sleeping bag and bury your face into your pillow. Suddenly, you don’t feel so cold anymore.
Notes: Your continued support means soooo much to me! This was kind of a filler chapter, but I hoped you enjoyed it nonetheless! Also baby needs a name! What do you have for me?!?! ❀❀ a list of lines from every single work-in-progress to be linked later when i actually post them just bc i’m bored ❀❀
ashton irwin
And I get that it may seem obviously to other people, but... I’m not watching this on TV and you’re not here and I don’t know what people are saying about me being my back
If she’s not back by sunset, I’m leaving camp to look for her. And if something happened to her, you’re dead
I don’t care about what everyone else will say -- I care about you and your safety, so you can either stay with me at my place until everything with him is sorted out or I can sleep on your couch, but I am not leaving you alone
She deserves better than that, Ashton! She deserves better than you!
I’m a burden on everybody! That’s why I’m here -- that’s why they threw me in a mental hospital and left!
Nothing ever means anything to you anyway
She’s still my ex! Just because she ‘needed help’ doesn’t make it less weird!
Remember how you said if I needed anything, you’d do it...? C-Can I just have a hug?
You fucking heard me. Stop the fucking car
I’m not dating your ex. I asked her out if that’s what you mean
Maybe you could argue that ‘just friends’ do that too, but it’s not ‘just friends’ when Ashton does it for you
I just... I can’t...handle losing someone right after I almost lost you
Are you tall enough to ride the merry-go-round at the fair by yourself?
I’m all for taking credit for my work, but I’m not taking credit for this because 1) I didn’t do it, and 2) it’s sloppy as hell
She clearly needs someone right now and unfortunately for me, she chose you
I’ve heard your friends talking... I know no one thinks he’s still alive
I may be desperate for money, but I’m not selling my body for some rich, entitled frat guys to jack off to!
If you want to be embarrassed, that’s fine, but I’m not going to stand here and listen to you berate yourself like this
Those spirits at the prison we investigated a couple weeks ago really liked you
awsten knight
What could possibly be so hard for her?! She’s a Princess, for Christ’s sake!
Can’t imagine keeping everything bottled up is any easier than letting someone in
calum hood
I know you don’t like her, but telling her she’s not allowed to hug me around you is fucking ridiculous
Do you make it a habit to spy on people or am I just today’s lucky winner?
You can’t lie just to get me there -- I would have gone anyway
I’m not lying to Calum; I’m just not telling him how I feel
You know how you said I should be falling in love instead of living in that house...? I’m glad it’s gonna be with you
How am I meant to have fun with him around?
You wouldn’t do the things you do if you really loved me
When you’re not here, it’s easier to pretend you still love me
I have a question -- why is that guy looking at his corn dog like that?
Please don’t make me say it again -- the first time was embarrassing enough
If he knew he was going to meet you, he never would have told her those things
I can guarantee you that baby’s not his
I never stopped wanting you either
He wouldn’t have dumped me if he was still in love with me
If you were getting tired of me, you could have just said so
Always knew I’d cry if I met you guys -- just didn’t think this would be the reason
I can’t just not pay you for watching my dog for 5 months
Will you at least let me know what it’s like to kiss you?
Do you know how weird it is to have feelings for your boss?
If they want nothing to do with you, then I want nothing to do with them
Secrets don’t stay that way forever; They all have to come out eventually
He keeps asking if he can call you Mummy
It’s heartbreaking in all the right places
I told you getting the blonde put into your hair was a bad idea
cody carson
The day you get something different from Starbucks is the day I let Pistol sleep in your bedroom
At least I’ve never lied when I told you I love you
Wait, someone tried to kidnap that little girl on your lap?
dacre montgomery
My worst nightmare is disappointing Steve Irwin
damien haas
Am I even on this show right now? Is this all just some freakishly realistic dream?
harry styles
Would you have apologized if your daughter hadn’t made you?
Daddy doesn’t love me anymore
Since when are you afraid of getting rejected?
jamie follese
I can’t help when I disappear! The cake batter calls to me and I must answer her!
He asks if I love you all the time even though I always say yes
I think I could talk my way out of jail
louis tomlinson
Nothing’s ever scared me more than the thought of losing you
luke hemmings
If I’m feeling this bad about meeting his friends, I don’t know what I’m gonna do when he wants to tell the fans
We’re only here for a few days; You’re just going to have to deal with sharing a bed until we leave
We made a bet on which one of you would confess your feelings first
Even if it wasn’t what he wanted to hear, he still needed to
She closes the store alone tonight -- you didn’t hear it from me
How many strings did my husband have to pull for this?
She doesn’t even want him! She’s only with him because she knows I do!
You know I don’t like when you do this to yourself
I got my ass handed to me by an 11-year-old and her Pokemon master of an aunt
I have nightmares almost every night, but I only come in here when they’re about you
She’s a hostage in a bank robbery! Of course I care about her being in there!
You’re by yourself in the stables at 11pm with tears on your face. Don’t tell me nothing’s wrong
Don’t be mad just because your siblings love me more than they love you
You know that means nothing to me! Stop bragging about having colors!
Even I’m not heartless enough to leave you without a dance partner
marshall traver
Nobody is alone -- not even in this world
You’re only apologizing because I’m the Princess; You wouldn’t be if I were a nobody
maxx danziger
I told him you hate water; I told him and he decided to try and throw you in anyway
Too used to blowing me off on the phone, you forgot how to talk to me in person?
I think they deserve a teacher who wants to see them succeed
If she’s still wearing her ring, she’s clearly not ready to date other people
You’re staying even though my dad’s an idiot, right?
We’re gonna circle back to the fetish thing later because I don’t believe you don’t have one for a second
michael clifford
Wouldn’t want you to stay longer than you have to just because of me
If you never say ‘I love you’ back to me, that’s completely okay
You’ve been crying, kitten; I can tell
Is there any point when you’re not going to be useless to us?
You fired her because you’re in love with her?!
What can I say? His parents are raising him right
Don’t even think about touching my brother again
Hit me like you mean it
Last day of camp -- won’t be able to do this until next summer
I know you paid my rent
Nothing would piss off that asshole more than getting the girl he wants
Since when would he jump at the chance to defend me?
I know you’ve seen how different he is with me now
The first thing I heard when I woke up was ‘I wish that I could wake up with amnesia and forget about the stupid little things’ and I did
Unlike the girls you sleep with, I actually like being with a guy who can make me cum
It can’t possibly get worse than the hell you’re living right now
I love Michael... Oh my God... Ashton, I’m in love with Michael
Please bless us with this work of art
The only good thing about this tie is that it’s blocking some of the brightness from how pale you are
Why do you even have this song on cassette in the first place?!
She’s safe -- that’s all I’m allowed to say
How did two 11-year-olds manage to pull off the biggest switch ever?
You know they’re not going to let you marry me
I’m not a stranger to staying with people who treat me poorly
If I can handle you, I think I’m prepared for pretty much anything
You make Mumma forget about him and be happy and I like when Mumma’s happy
You said you weren’t going to let go of me
Can you write a song telling your soulmate to be less depressing? It’s really starting to worry me
I’m not stupid; I’ve seen your face -- I know I’m not getting out of this alive
I can either push past you or you can let me go, but I am going to go kiss my wife whether I have your permission or not
Not the worst injury I’ve ever had and definitely won’t be the last
This is not who I expected to be kissing when I put this dress on
ryan follese
Best of luck with your engagement to the Princess
I can’t put myself in a relationship I know won’t last
spencer reid
I didn’t marry a profiler, Spencer! I married you!
Any of us would have gone in to save your daughter -- it just happened to be me this time
tom holland
I know you love me, Tom -- I know you do... But it hurts that you don’t want other people to know it too...
trevor collins
I kinda wanted to wait and see if you were actually real before I said anything...
You may not be irreplaceable to the company, but you’re irreplaceable to me
I know you’re not sick; I know you just said it because you wanted to leave work early

Dude, what happened to you and your scooter?? Was it a car crash? How are you now? And you said you are not doing well mentally right now, is that a depression? Just.... talk to us. It's not all about UT after all, we're worried about YOU too, you know? If you feel like sharing with us, please do. If you don't feel like opening up - then sure, that's your decision, it's public internet after all. Just know that in whatever case people care for you (even anonymous lurkers like me). XXX
This ask really warmed my heart.   (.... And I put a heart here, and it ate everything else I wrote in this paragraph, so lemme try again. )  It really means a lot to me that you’d reach out like this, anon. xx  Seriously, thank you for asking about me.  I’m happy to share the grisly details of that scooter wreck with you guys!
You guys ready for story time?
This ended up being stupid long, so I’m sticking it all under a cut.
Also, trigger warnings for blood and a picture of a cut at the end.
Okay, so the scooter was one of those Lyft scooters you guys may’ve seen around.  It’s basically a taller razor scooter with a motor on it – the kind you stand on, not sit.  It’s got a QR code that you scan with the app that activates the scooter, you pay by the minute, and you leave it anywhere on a sidewalk as long as you take a picture to deactivate it.
I’d never seen one before.  This was in Atlanta, which is a rather big city, and I saw people riding these scooters everywhere.  I even passed a couple that looked almost as old as my parents riding them together with shopping bags on the handles, so I thought, This is perfectly safe.
I was out killing time before a concert (Taking Back Sunday/Red City Radio) by hunting pokemon in pokemon go with Ant, and we saw the parked scooters on the way back to our hotel.  We only had a few blocks to go, so we started checking them out, downloaded the app, and gave them a  try.
We started off riding them uphill, which is where I went wrong.  I didn’t think they had any power; everyone I’d seen had been barely going, after all.  So, I turned the accelerator all the way and even had to kick off with my foot like a regular scooter to get it to make it to the top of the hill.
The moment the sidewalk leveled out, however, the scooters shot off.  Holy shit, they started to fly!  Ant was way ahead of me, and I started calling out about how it was going way too fast, and I squeezed the brake in a panic.  The scooter instantly started to wobble, and I put my foot off to catch my balance, but… the scooter was still going, so as soon as my foot touched the sidewalk, I was propelled off my feet and forward toward the sidewalk in prime face-plant position.
I was still holding onto the scooter with both hands, and it happened so quickly that I didn’t have time to let go; I didn’t break my fall, but I did turn my body slightly.  (Later, I’d text my boss that I “hit the streets of Atlanta last night… with my face!”  He wasn’t amused.)  I hit the ground and the scooter kept flying down the sidewalk sideways.  Apparently, my side hit first and my ribs took the entire impact from how fast I was going.  My knees hit, too, because all of the skin was pretty much gone from them (and I still have huge bruises on both of them right now), my elbow was bloody, and I guess the bottom of my palm got scraped across the sidewalk because it was cut open.
I remember pushing myself up and thinking that my head was throbbing.  The first thing I noticed was that my glasses were broken; I could see them lying in front of me, smashed to bits and missing their lenses.  “My glasses are broken, damn,” I remember announcing.  “And I think I hit my head.”
My forehead was warm, and my vision was clouding in my left eye.  “Oh.  I’m bleeding.  I cut my forehead open,” I narrated while Ant grabbed my shoulders tried to inspect the damage.  However, he was too busy panicking to really look, and started crying and apologizing over and over, while I was the calm one.
My glasses had cut my forehead and eyebrow when they broke.
Blood was pouring from my head.  I kept having to blink the blood out of my eye and hold my head forward to clear my vision.  I put my hands over it, but it kept filling up my palms and spilling down my forearms.  “Fuck, this is a lot of blood, but it is a head wound.  It’s gonna bleed.  Let’s move.”
So, we move toward the buildings, off to the side of the sidewalk, leaving our scooters there.  Ant is still freaking out, but he has the peace of mind to deactivate the scooters (though forgets to take a picture of them, so we both end up with $40 bills later that Lyft thankfully refunded really quickly.  By the time I realized he didn’t finish deactivating them, I went to the take a picture of the scooter screen and just took a selfie of me all bloody in the ER.  We got the money back within half an hour.).
“I need to go to the hospital because this is going to need stitches.”  I can’t even see the cut, but if it’s bleeding this much, I know it’s gotta be something I need sewn up.  “Do we call an ambulance?”
“Maybe you won’t need stitches.  Head wounds bleed, so it might not be that bad.  It’s just… too bloody for me to see the cut.  Let’s walk back to our hotel, and you can clean up there?”
I snort, gesturing to my arms.  At this point, both of my arms are purple with blood.  I literally look like I stepped out of a horror movie and got stabbed or something.  It looks like I just dipped both arms into a barrel of blood to the elbow and then yanked them out.  I’m wearing all black, so you can’t tell that it’s on my clothes as much, but the gray logo on the front of my shirt is dark red.  “I’m not walking down the streets like this, much less our hotel.  I’d scare people.”
“If we need to go to the hospital, I’ll just drive you there.”
I only said ambulance initially because I wasn’t sure how to walk to a hospital covered in blood, and there’s also no way I’m going to walk through our hotel like this and wait in the underground garage for the valet to get his car.
“No way.  We could Uber, but I can’t go in there like this.  I need to get cleaned up.”
There’s an Aloft hotel directly across the street, and we both glance over there.  “You could use the bathroom in that hotel,” he suggests, and I scoff.
“There’s a lot of people around there… They’d start screaming or call 911 if I walked in.  Why don’t you just go grab me some wet and dry paper towels?”
“You’re gonna stay out here by yourself?”
“I’ll hide.  Just hurry.”
So, yeah, I’m still actively bleeding all over the place when he runs across the street, but I hide behind a pillar, crouch down so maybe people won’t notice me, and pull out a compact mirror/brush combination (the one that Viv gave me in Alaska, actually!)  This is the first time I get a look at myself, and shit, my face is covered in blood, and it’s pretty much turned my blonde hair pink.  I decide to try to brush the blood out, which just spreads it around and ends up yanking giant pink tangles out.  I try to get a look at the cut, but I can’t see it well past the blood, and every time I let go of it, it just pours out in a rush.  So, I start holding my sleeve against it, but that doesn’t help.
Ant comes running back with his pockets stuffed with paper towels just as a random woman peers around my pillar.
“Are you okay?!” she shouts, horrified.
Shit.
I haven’t cleaned myself off, and I let go of my forehead to turn and wave a dismissive hand with the biggest, most manic grin I’ve probably ever had plastered on my face.  “I’m fine!  I just had a little fall, that’s all!”
She recoils a little, looking even more concerned.  “Do you need me to call 911?”
“Oh, no, no, no need for that!  I’m going to clean off and then Uber to the hospital, but thank you!”
She looks dubious.  “Okay.  I just didn’t want to walk away when I saw you.”
“Thank you for your concern, but I’m all right!”
So when she leaves, I proceed to start scrubbing the blood off my arms first, and then the side of my face.  There’s no helping my hair; my bangs are sticking straight up, matted into a ball.  Ant helps, and then I ball the rest of the dry paper towels up and hold it to my head.  I’ve still got some blood here and there on me, but it’s enough that walking down the streets of Atlanta won’t be too bad.
We walk to the end of the block and get an Uber.  It shows up fairly quickly, and I slip into the backseat without trying to draw attention to myself.  But after about a block, the driver asks if we’re visiting someone at the hospital; obviously, he hasn’t looked at me yet.
“Nah, we had an accident,” Ant nervously answers, and I meet the driver’s gaze through the rear-view mirror.
“Are you… Are you bleeding?!”
“Yeah, but don’t worry.  I cleaned up; it won’t be on your backseat.”
At least he has leather seats, but honestly, I don’t think there’s any blood on the back of my pants, and I’m sitting forward so I’m not touching anything else.  I’m trying to be considerate but damn, I need this Uber.
The driver is worried about just that, and he keeps glancing back at me.  He’s driving faster now, eager to get me out of his car.  He runs a red light, and I grip the side handle, muttering curses under my breath.
The hospital wasn’t far, but he still stops a full block from it and tells us to get out, and “Good luck!” before he speeds off.  It takes a bit of walking to figure out which part of the massive hospital leads into the ER, and it’s with all of this walking that I realize I’m hurting, and it’s not just my head.  My ribs feel like fire.  Gingerly I press on them and wince.  Shit.  They’re either bruised or broken.
I’ll worry about that later; right now, I want my head sewn up so I can leave.
As soon as we entered the ER, there was a security guard sitting by the metal detector.  I handed him my purse, but when he noticed there was blood all over it, he just asked me to open it so he can shine his flashlight inside.  “What happened, sweetheart?  Did you have a fall?” he asked, the picture of concern.
“I fell off one of those scooters,” I replied, and his face automatically changed.
“When will you learn?” he said sternly.  “I hope this taught you something.”
… The… fuck?
“I’ve never seen one of those before,” I countered. “I didn’t know.”
He scoffs and waves me through, shaking his head and muttering about the damn scooters.  I’m pissed off now, and Ant has to lead me to the counter.  Since I don’t have my glasses, everything just looks like blobs until I get close, and the signs might as well not even have writing on them.  It’s disorienting, and I hate it.
At the front desk, as soon as I say I fell off a scooter, the women react the same way.  “You should’ve known better,” one of them chides, and I keep repeating that I had no idea it went that fast.  I feel like a child.
“You could’ve been hurt,” the other one insists, and I dumbly stare.  Why do they think I’m here?
Ant fills out the basic patient information sheet for me and hands it back, while I go into the bathroom to clean up.  The door doesn’t lock, so I have to get him to stand outside of it.  I try to wash the blood out of my hair, but I’m only mildly successful.  I do get to wash the rest of the blood from my arms and face, though, so that’s something.  I roll my pants up to assess my knees, and they’re skint up and bloody, but I know from the way I can move them that there’s nothing wrong with them.  The cut on my palm burns like hell, but it’s okay, and my elbow is just skint up, too.
After half an hour, a nurse comes and wordlessly tapes some gauze to my forehead without really looking at the cut.  Then, I’m called back to the triage area where they take my vitals and ask what happened and what’s hurt.  I’m sat’ing 100, so I know that my ribs didn’t puncture a lung or anything, so I decide they’re fine.
About an hour after that, I get called back, and it’s then that I realize I haven’t signed a consent for treatment.  I ask the nurse about it, he tells me that I don’t need one signed beforehand for where I’m going.
We end up in the trauma section, and I’m surprised.  “I’m a trauma?”  He nods.  “What, a level three?”  Another absent nod as he tries to figure out where to put me.  A level three means there’s nothing possibly life-threatening about my injuries, but that I’ve sustained an injury that needs to be seen before a standard patient, basically.
It’s then that I realize just how busy this ER is.  There were over 60 normal rooms we passed, and this trauma bay alone has 20 rooms, with four rooms for dire cases.  To put it in perspective, I work in an enormous hospital, and our trauma bay only has four rooms.
All 20 rooms must be full because there’s a man with an obviously broken leg on a stretcher just out in the hallway.  I get lead around the corner, and then the nurse pulls a chair out and has me sit in the hall.
Over the course of the next two hours, several different people come to see me, and I can’t tell which of them is my nurse or doctor.  Mostly, they just peel the gauze away from my face to look at the cut, and when I first asked if it was going to need stitches, I just got laughter as a response.
A nurse was making rounds with a student and stopped in front of me at one point.  “This one didn’t have the sense to not get on a scooter,” she told the student, and I shouted back that they don’t have them where I’m from.
“You could’ve been hurt,” the student said, and I’m begin to wonder what their definition of hurt is if I’m sitting in a trauma bay.
“Mmhmm.  Bet you won’t do that again,” the nurse chuckles, and then leads her away.
“What the fuck is wrong with this place?” Ant asks, standing beside me; they didn’t offer him a chair, so he’s been awkwardly shifting his weight from foot to foot this entire time.
A doctor comes to examine me in the hall, pressing on my neck and squeezing my arms.  I have to roll my skinny jeans up to show him my knees, but he claims if I’ve been walking, they must be fine.  He asks if I have any other injuries, and I think about the fact that my ribs hurt whenever I breathe – but I’m tired of this place, pissed off, and I wanna go home.  So, I tell him no.  Someone comes up and offers me a tetanus shot, but I turn that down, too.
Another hour later, a resident comes to tell me that he’s going to sew up my eyebrow if he can get a room.  I don’t need a head CT, but he’s worried I may have ripped the membrane covering my skull, so he said he’s going to feel it before he sews it up, but “Don’t worry, we’ll numb you up so you won’t feel a thing.”
When he finally gets a room, he’s antsy, trying to move quick.  We’re in one of the large, critical care bays, one of the rooms where they bring the most serious cases.  He’s wearing a walkie-talkie that’s giving trauma reports, which is weird to me because I wear a pager for mine at work.
“I’ve gotta irrigate that wound, but I don’t know how to do it without pouring water all over you.”
“Honestly, if you could get some more of it in my hair, you’d be doing me a favor.”
“I don’t think that’s coming out that easily.”
He put chucks around my neck and has me lean back while he pours sterile water directly into the cut.  This was honestly the worst part; I have a pretty solid tolerance for pain, but I found myself squeezing Ant’s arm and trying not to cry.
The resident’s walkie-talkie goes off, reporting a two-car collision, and both of the drivers are coming as level one traumas – which means they’re life-threatening.  I’m definitely getting kicked out of this room, and he knows it, too.
“Shit.  Okay.  Okay, it’s still got a bit before it’ll be here.  I can probably still sew you up, so let’s try.  But first, we have to check that membrane I mentioned, and ah… I need an attending to double-check me.”
He steps out to grab another doctor, and this one takes one look at me and grins.  “You’re going to have one hell of a black eye, girlie.”
“Black eye?”  I’m starting to panic.  “I can’t have a black eye at work.  Are you sure?”
He scoffs.  “Absolutely.  It’s going to look gnarly.  But hey, let’s see if you have a tear.”   He holds up the blunt end of a Q-tip, and I recoil a little.  I know he’s about to jam that directly into my cut.
“Wasn’t I told I’d be numbed up first?”
“No time with 2 level one’s coming.  You knew the risk when you got on the scooter.”
“Why does everyone keep sayin–ahhhh!”
He sticks the blunt end directly into the cut, and then drags it across my freaking skull, up under the skin.  It doesn’t hurt as much as the irrigation did, but I still suck in a hiss of air and wince.
“All right, so it didn’t snag, and that means you’re probably good.”  He starts explaining it to the resident, while I just mouth fucking hell to Ant.
To make a long story short because this is starting to get out of hand, I get sewn up partway, the trauma comes, so we have to go back into the hall, and the resident breaks sterile procedure without changing gloves, so I ask for that tetanus shot after all.  He finishes up my stitches in the hall, although keeps saying that he wants to see the trauma, while I keep insisting he needs to finish what he started.  The attending is supposed to review his work, but an hour and a half pass without a sign of the doctor, so the resident comes back to tell me it’s probably fine and slaps some gauze over the stitches.  I’m also told it’ll scar, but not to worry because “eyebrow scars are badass.”
“There’s always an eyebrow scar in any character creation mode, so now you can pick that,” Ant helpfully supplies.
Fast forward a bit.  I didn’t get any pain killers, but I had some left from where I got a wisdom tooth out the month before.  To put it in perspective, when I got that tooth out, I only took a half of one (it wasn’t anything hard because it was one tooth, so don’t worry; it was basically powerful tylenol that makes you drowsy).  But the day after the wreck, I took three.  My ribs were killing me, breathing hurt, my head was pounding, and bending my legs was agony.  Everything hurt, so I called into work for the first time in eight years and just laid on the couch.
I could only get one day off, so I went in after, and desperately tried to cover up my black eye with makeup.  I’ll have to post some pictures below or something because I think I actually did a good job.  A few days later, I decided to x-ray my ribs because they were getting worse.  I thought that at the most, I’d squint at them and wonder if they might be broken, but when the image popped up, my coworkers and I gasped.  It was obvious breaks, and both of my floated ribs had the ends broken off completely, just hanging out below them.
You can’t do much for broken ribs.  You can get them wrapped if they’re bad enough, and in some extreme cases, some hardware can get put on them, but that’s pretty rare.  It’s just something that heals on its own if you take it easy.  I knew that, but I still went to my primary doctor a couple of weeks later because they were only getting worse, and I wanted to see if I could get some time approved off work.  Plus, I was kinda scared the broken pieces wouldn’t reattach.
Long story short, I got patronized a bit.  She repeated the xrays of my ribs after I showed her they were broken, and also ordered an xray of my orbit (which the xray tech didn’t know how to do because that’s not something you typically get at a doctor’s office, so she had me xray myself).  When I asked the doctor why she wanted to xray my face – “There’s nothing you can do about a fracture there, right?  It just heals on it’s own?” – she replied with, “Yeah, but so do rib fractures, and yet you’re still here, aren’t you?”
Even the xray tech told me, “You know you can’t do anything for broken ribs.” when I was looking over my images.  “You just have to take it easy.”
“I can’t,” I blurted, exasperated.  My work is mostly physical; I lift patients and push machines around all day, and it hurt like hell.
The doctor asked me if I looked at the xrays, and if I thought I saw a fracture.  “You tell me?” I asked, and she shrugged.
“Oh, I can’t read xrays.  You see more of them than me, so I figured you’d be able to tell.  But I mean, it looks like your sixth rib is really broken bad.”
“Sixth?”  The middle one?  It’d been hurting like hell, and I had a suspicion that it was broken.  “You could see it, too?”
“Oh yeah, that piece was way off.”
“Piece?  You mean the very bottom one?”  She nods.  “The… 12th rib?”
“Yeah, 6th, 12th, however many ribs you got in there.”
She was supposed to get the xrays read by a radiologist, but she never got back to me, so I just got one at work to check it out.  Which is probably what I should’ve done in the first place.  She couldn’t get me time off work, and she suggested I take ibuprofen for the pain, even though the last time I saw her, she told me not to take that anymore because I have a stomach ulcer.  When I reminded her of that, she shrugged and said, “What would you rather have?  Nausea or pain?”
…. I don’t think I’ll be seeing her again.
ANYWAY, I ended up tanking all of my vacation days to scrounge almost two weeks off work after a particularly busy day there made it get so bad that I physically couldn’t get out of bed, and that got me healed up for the most part.  And by then, some friends flew in to stay with me for a while, so they just let me be lazy and heal, and it really helped.  I had a black eye for a month straight, but it finally went away, and now the only lasting damage I have is a scar above my eyebrow, and still a good deal of pain in it.  Like just brushing my fingertips over it still hurts, so I think it’s still a bit broken; it’s bigger than my other eyebrow, and it’s kinda got a knot if you feel over it.  But all the other bones are healed now, so that’s pretty good.
I guess the people in the ER were right, though.  I did learn my lesson, and I’m staying the hell away from scooters now.
For those of you outside of the US wondering about our healthcare system, this entire ordeal cost me about $600.
$200 for the new glasses because insurance wouldn’t cover a new pair until Feb, and I needed them right then.
$300 for the ER visit
& another $100 for the doctors group that saw me in the ER.  I have the best insurance I can possibly get in my state, too, so this was just as cheap as it gets.  It sucked, but lesson learned!
Here’s some pictures just to add to the story:
This was me right after I got the cut irrigated.  You can still see some of the pink in my hair.
Tumblr media
   Here’s the next day, before the black eye had really set in.  The cut’s been sewn up:
Tumblr media
 Here’s literally the day after that – and pretty much every day for two weeks, before it started to fade.
Tumblr media
And here’s how I covered it up with makeup to go to work.  I got good at it!
Tumblr media
The glasses helped to hide the swelling, really.
Annnnd that’s the scooter tale. 8D

Mirror of Sorrow 83c
Send “Mirror of Sorrow” to see a possible tragic future
He didn’t know he came back...
Everyone hid that from him, Blue, the Kahuna, Professor Kukui, no one told him about Rainbow Rocket until it was too late. The only one who did anything was the young champion of Alola, only the age of eleven like he was way back when he had stopped the original Team Rocket.
It was already starting to seem like the Alolan hero failed stopping Team Rainbow Rocket so the only thing everyone could do was go to Red for help. And what did he say? He’s a hero and Giovanni is like his worst enemy so of course he’d help. It had been a long while since he had driven away from the Battle Tree and the area from the Hano Hotel. He got into a car and started to drive, Blue in the passengers seat still talking to the Kahuna about the situation.
As he drives around the islands he notices something isn't right. Hardly anyone was outside, only adults in black outfits with a rainbow letter "R" on them. These had to be Team Rainbow Rocket! Red swerved and tried to park so he could kick some Rocket butt just like he used to, but Blue quickly stopped him in his tracks grabbing his wrist. "What are you doing Blue?! Let me go!"
"I just got word from the Kahuna...Giovanni has held up the Aethur Palace."
Giovanni huh? Just as he expected. Now he just had to get to that artificial island and confront him himself. Once the leader is gone his followers will slowly stop.
Tumblr media
"Alright Blue...let's stop Rainbow Rocket."
Going to the big city and seeing everyone scared and in hiding brought him back to when he was in Celedon City. They probably have everyone held hostage in the stations too. They won't let anyone ride there unless they are a member of Team Rocket. They needed disguises...luckily they found two adult size Rainbow Rocket outfits that fit them perfectly. How did they find it? They may have stole them from an unlocked locker in a Pokemon Center. Hopefully they won't miss these costumes too much.
At the station where they load the ferries things looked relatively normal on the outside, however the inside was crawling with Rainbow Rocket grunts. At the table where they usually give tickets was another Rainbow Rocket grunt. "You're late." she snaps at them. "We need more grunts to aide the boss. There's a guy there with white messy hair causing a big ruckus for no real reason. We need you two to help the boss get rid of him, got it?" The disguised champions nod, trying not to say a word in case they could recognize their voices. "Good. First ferry on the right. Hurry." She hands them the keys and they walk to the other room with the ferries. Red had no idea how to drive a ferry, but Blue had driven some boats on vacations so he was the one piloting the ship.
The two men have never been to Aether Paradise before, the only clue they had to get there was that it was an "artificial island". Most of these islands looked real, how will they know which place is their destination? Perhaps it was that place with the windows everywhere? Yep, it had to be. Team Rocket was there too. Blue parked the ferry and they both went inside. Everything on the first floor looked okay, just some sort of fake ecosystem for the Slowpokes to play in. Maybe Team Rainbow Rocket was lower? It's not the first time they hid under something before. Red and Blue get into the elevator and go down. This was something different. The decor was black and red, a rainbow colored "R" on the wall. A white-haired man was fighting with two other Rocket Grunts while a blonde girl in a white dress tries to get the Alolan champion back into consciousness. Were they hurt? No they just looked knocked out...though they couldn't say anything or they'll blow their cover.
A long hallway shows a plethora of doors. Which one do they go into to find Giovanni? "I think it's the one right at the top. Giovanni is showy like that. You've seen his gym." Blue suggested. Red nods. That did very well sound like something Giovanni would do. Carefully the head for the door trying not to cause to much attention to themselves. Other than what appeared to be a lady knocked out on the floor and a lone swivel chair, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.
"Ah, I take it that you disposed of the Team Skull leader from the lobby?" A deep familiar voice bellowed from the chair.
Red froze. He knew that voice anywhere. His eyes narrowed with anger and contempt. Luckily Blue answered for him. "He won't be bothering no one anymore." Red glances at Blue for a second wondering why he would say that but then says nothing. The chair turns around slowly. "Good, good. He was being too loud..." It was none other but Giovanni, looking as smug as ever. This man was not Giovanni...at least the one he knew. The Giovanni that Red knew didn't have any evil in him anymore, or at least not enough to make a whole crime syndicate. But this Giovanni...he seemed too smug, too cocky, too much like he didn't get defeated by two children.
".........."
Without talking the two champions take off their disguises revealing their real clothes underneath.
Tumblr media
"............."
Red wasn't going to talk right now...his eyes solely staring daggers at the man in the chair. If looks could kill Red's stare would be considered a deadly weapon. Giovanni didn't seem concerned. "So the two former Kanto champions...another Kanto champion came after me too...they won one battle...but they didn't expect my loyal subjects to be in Johto too...overwhelmed them easily..."
Red blinked a few times. Another Kanto champion? Lance? what was he talking about? No matter. Red holds up a Pokeball to show he meant business.
"Hmm....this is the first time I've ever battled a champion before. Very well then. I hope you two put up a good fight."

ok no prob ^^ what about a 'we should kiss just to break the tension' kinda fic?
[Okay so when I received this I had a really fun little idea that didn’t perfectly match the quote - if it’s supposed to be a quote, I wasn’t sure - and I felt my inspiration… may trump my uncertainty about possibly not quite meeting anon’s expectations for this fic… Very sorry in advance!]
He’d thought things were finally back to normal.
Ash Ketchum was not what one would call particularly observant. He himself had admitted on at least one occasion already to not fully understand the female, or rather one specific female’s, mind… But he’d seen Misty bristle in irritation when Melody introduced herself on Shamuti Island’s beach and he’d inwardly blanched at the redhead’s aggravated and curt response when he’d asked her to join him in fulfilling his role as the so-called chosen one in the Shamuti Island legend.
Lugia had since returned to their deep sea home, the other legendary birds had retreated to their respective islands, all of the Pokemon that had journeyed to the supposed end of the world had begun to withdraw… Ash and friends, including his mom and Professor Oak, had spent one final night on Shamuti to nurse their thankfully small wounds and new emotional scars. A feast was thrown and everyone who’d had a part in securing the three elemental orbs that quelled their respective titans’ fury had retired to bed rather early.
And, by end of next day, Misty was back to glaring daggers and offering little more than argumentative commentary whenever they shared the same space.
Ash sighed, squinted up at the twinkling stars from his position at the rear deck of the ferry he and his friends were riding on to reach their next destination. Honestly he was too tired to be playing detective. There was a reason he’d opted to take a ferry instead of sailing to Pummelo on Lapras…
Speaking of tired, he yawned, standing to his full height and stretching. There was no point speculating on Misty and her weird moods. He did hope though that whatever she was going through would resolve itself before he completed the Orange League. Truth be told, it was nice to think of her cheering him on…
“–Ack!” The half-formed complaint formed in Misty’s throat as he turned and knocked straight into her.
“Mwah! Sorry! I… oh, Misty.”
“Geez, Ash, look where you’re going! And don’t sound like you wanna take back your apology just ‘cause it’s me you ran into!” she rebuffed briskly, turning her nose up at him.
“Uh, what’re ya doin’ here? It’s pretty late to be wandering around,” he replied almost sheepishly instead, choosing to ignore her attitude.
“I was going to the bathroom, not that it’s any of your business. I thought I’d take the outdoor route since the ocean at night is so nice to look at,” she told him almost absentmindedly, though he saw the twinkle in her eyes as she confessed her admiration. “But I could ask you the same thing. You can’t be this restless after everything we just went through, right?”
For half a second, he wondered to himself if that was concern he’d heard in her voice.
“Actually I was just going to bed, was thinking about some stuff but I’m done now.”
It was awkward. For all of his lack of knowledge and experience dealing with Misty Things™, even Ash could feel the air thicken with restrained hostility. Neither of them moved, not even to create enough space for the other to pass them by.
“Well, see ya in the morning then,” she told him in that same curt tone he’d practically gotten used to (again, for she’d all but ceased in using it since the first few months of their travels together… and honestly, what kind of friend acts that way for no reason), her gaze sharp as she stared him down.
“Hey wait!” he practically shouted, even going so far as to grab her hand and pull her softly back, forcing her to face him. Well, sorta. She refused to look him in the eye all of a sudden, and he swore her face looked a lot redder than what was normal.
“Wh - what?”
“Is something the matter? You’ve been treating me weird the past couple days.”
“Wh - huh?” she responded blankly, though the lack of ire lasted mere seconds before her brow knitted in irritation, lips pursing to keep herself from saying anything she’d regret too much as she tugged herself free from him and placed blunt and somewhat callused fists on her hips. “Why of course not, Mr. Pokemon Master. Don’t be silly! I’m treating you normal.”
No, you’re not, he thought automatically, somewhat frustrated but not enough to risk raising her temper by calling her out aloud.
No, I’m not, she internally relented but she shouldn’t have to point the obvious out to him and, really, she wasn’t emotionally prepared to be that open with him anyway. Maybe things would just have to be unfriendly between the two of them for awhile yet. They’d gotten through a rough patch before, right? They could do it again.
Because how could she tell him the reason she was so upset was due to another girl coming on to him? Kissing him on the cheek? Not to mention twice!
It hadn’t seemed to phase Ash quite as much the second time around but Misty, having only just found it in her to be honest about his importance to her, had not planned for Melody’s second attack just before their departure from Shamuti Island. The redhead had half a mind to ask if that had been more for her response than his but hadn’t gotten the opportunity.
But perhaps the most shocking part of it all was that Ash noticed anything was wrong to begin with. The only hope she had now was to keep from giving him anymore clues. About anythi--
--She was interrupted by a three or so second long soft and rather chapped pressure against her left cheek.
Wide-eyed, breath stifled somewhere between her lungs and throat, the redhead clamped both hands quickly over the victimized part of her face, doing her best to form an accusation.
“Wh - wha... what’re you doing, Mr. Pokemon Master? What was that?!” she whispered in an oddly high-pitched voice, face burning as bright as her hair looked, mind turning a little gooey despite her best attempts to stay vigilant.
“Uh... I guess it was a... kiss?” he replied, his face scrunching a little in distaste of the admission. He didn’t offer her anymore information off the bat, perhaps focusing more on his own reaction to such a choice. He’d never done that before after all, for anyone, and had never even been tempted in the past.
But while Misty had been thinking hard about Melody’s final transgression against her, kissing Ash on his cheek a second time before he and his friends left her home island, while she’d been resigning herself to her reigning temper and temporary fear that he’d somehow manage to put two and two together to figure out her feelings, he had returned to playing detective.
And the fact that he’d kept circling back to was that Misty had been angry again by the time their group left Shamuti. And she’d been angry within minutes of them first arriving on Shamuti. And somewhere towards the end of their latest perilous adventures in the archipelago region, she’d temporarily gotten over that feeling. So her anger didn’t seem to be tied to frustration over him getting caught up in something dangerous, nor did it have to do with her part in saving him from that something dangerous...
He’d acted instinctively, so swiftly after coming to his conclusion, that he too hadn’t had time to mentally prepare for its ramifications before kissing her chastely, intimately, on her cheek... just as Melody had done to him.
“But why did you kiss me, you dummy?” she practically squealed, eyes glinting though he couldn’t tell what emotion was clouded behind them.
“It, uh... I dunno,” he finally confessed after trying and failing to find a better excuse. “But you’ve been mad ever since Melody kissed me so... I figured this would help break the tension.”
Break the...
“You... Agh, Ash Ketchum!” she wailed finally in response, stomping her foot against the ferry’s deck and wishing desperately that it was his dumb face.
“Mwah! Was I wrong?” he yelped, leaping back a step, momentarily pursing his lips together afterwards as he replayed the moment where he leaned in and pressed them against her cheek, eyes squinting tightly shut. Weirdly, he hadn’t much minded such a gross decision but there was no time or energy to dwell on that at present.
“Gah! Of course you...” she began in reply, fists formed and looking mightily prepared to fight against something. But her anger burned to fumes rather quickly as she looked the oddly nervous boy up and down before it hit her... that he had no idea how deep this whole thing went, he couldn’t possibly fathom the details. He simply thought things were resolved now.
What a nice thought that was.
“... Maybe... you’re right, Ash.”
“I - I am?”
Misty sighed, blinking her eyes closed as they threatened to roll out of her head. A little romantic voice was screeching in joy at the back of her mind, the part of her that had knowingly declared herself to be Ash’s protector not more than two days ago. Most of her still seethed at his audacity to decide a kiss from him would quell her passionate fury but...
“Let’s just... call it even,” she abated, smiling faintly for the first time in at least a day, hands up in defeat.
He squinted suspiciously at her, unsure how to counter. Call it even... What had been uneven to begin with? He still didn’t know. Maybe such things were for the best. It was weird that his redheaded companion, usually so capable of holding a grudge, was acting so suddenly forgiving. But was it a good idea to look a gift Ponyta in the mouth? He certainly didn’t mind the idea of things returning to normal... even if a part of him now felt as though something different and new was burgeoning from deep down.
But Ash Ketchum has never been the observant type. And he generally had little to no patience for Misty Things™.
“Well, that’s good then... So we should go to bed?” he asked hopefully, pointing in the direction of the room their group was sharing.
“Oh, uh, you first. I still have to take care of something, y’know?” she replied, face tinged red once more for reasons unrelated to her romantic scope, reminding him what had made her venture out of bed in the first place.
Her rather smooth response reassured him that things would be fine though as they went their separate ways.
And by next morning, all was normal, mostly because both of them had convinced themselves that the kiss had either been some weird fantasy or some unexpected dream they had no option but to shake off.
But good luck trying to figure out who thought which.

Chapter Seven: Meet & Greet
Word Count: 6005
Warnings: Language
__________________________________________
“Noooo,” I whine, hiding further under the covers. “I don’t wanna get up yet, my head hurts.”
“I told you not to drink the wine,” Leon laughs as he moves about the room.
“Look,” I state, sticking my arm out from under the covers to attempt to point at him. “It’s the best damn wine I have had ever, and I didn’t get drunk. I just had enough to be tipsy, mister.” He hums and before I can ask, he rips the blankets out of my hand and to the foot of the bed. “Nooooooo-”
“Pain killers,” he states, handing me two pills and a glass of water. “I have food in the kitchen, then we need to do last minute packing so we can head.”
I pout, but take the offered pills. After swallowing them down I hand the glass back. “Kiss?”
Lee rolls his eyes before pressing a swift kiss to my lips before helping me stand and pushing me toward the door. “Go eat, do you need to shower?”
I shake my head as I walk, grabbing a pair of his sweats to pull on before leaving the room to eat. I smile at the empty apartment as I sit down and eat the eggs and sausage on my plate, all the sudden over thinking, “Lee?”
“Yeah,” he calls back.
“Where do the eggs and sausage come from?”
There is a pause, and footsteps up the hallway. “They ship it from the mainland.” He suddenly stops in the hallway leaning on the wall, with his eyebrows raised in amusement, “It’s not Pokemon if you are wondering.”
“That was my worry-”
“Why would you-”
“Well we eat chicken and cow so I just had to ask-”
Leon shakes his head, moving across the room so he is standing at my side and pulls me so my head is against his chest. “My love, I think you need to just go with the flow-”
“But I have to know.” I whisper, making him chuckle before he kisses my forehead.
Leon pulls the plate closer, “Eat, then we have to finish packing.”
“When did you become the parent?” I tease, taking a bite and checking my phone.
“When you don’t move fast enough, besides, Hop texted me like six times this morning asking when we were coming down so I want to get there sooner rather than later.”
“Fair,” I mutter as I spoon another mouthful into my mouth. I hum as I check through my social media feeds while I finish breakfast. I wash my dish before I move about the apartment and pick up a few things that escaped my backpack to take back to the bedroom. Leon is standing at his closet pulling out a few sweaters and jeans that he tosses toward the bed. “Want me to fold those?” I ask, watching as he shakes his head.
“No, just pack your things, I don’t have much left to pack.” He mutters while grabbing two more things before returning to his suitcase. I notice him eyeball my large suitcase, “I never asked, but what’s in there?”
“Christmas presents,” I laugh, “If I can pack everything in my normal suitcase and my backpack I will mail that back home.”
He nods, moving to lift it and take it closer to the door. “What do you have left to pack?”
I point at my stuff, “I packed while you were doing ‘champion duties’ minus my bathroom stuff, so just that.”
He nods, “Can you get that and then we can take a taxi to the train station?”
I nod and grab my stuff, brushing my teeth and hair first. I waltz back into the room and unzip my suitcase and place them inside. “Want me to call the taxi service?”
Leon rubs his head, “Rotom?” The phone lifts from his pocket and comes to his face, “Taxi service, have them come in fifteen minutes to take us to Wyndon train station.”
I hear a small, 'Done, Corviknight tax number 24 will be here in fifteen minutes.’
“Guess not,” I mutter softly.
Leon sighs, moving to lean down and kiss my lips firmly. When he pulls away he mutters a soft, “Sorry, just, I am ready to be home.” He kisses my cheek before taking my hand, “Can you help me make sure I have everything?”
I nod and stand calling out different items. He quickly becomes aware that he hadn’t packed any underwear or socks. “Leon!” I laugh as I grab them and place them in his suitcase.
“Over focused, sorry, love.”
“Now I think you have everything,” I giggle. His Rotom buzzes beside us, 'taxi has arrived.’ I giggle and walk over to the door, “I’ll start taking this down.”
“I just have to grab my bathroom bag then we can head.” He calls as I shift my backpack over my shoulders and grab my bags.
I walk to the door and slip out, shutting it firmy behind me and calling for the elevator. It gets there before Leon comes out so I just take it down. I smile at the taxi driver as I exit the building, he jogs over to grab one of my bags. “Thank you, I thought I took too much out at once,” I giggle.
“No problem, love.” He places the bags in the back, “Just you?”
“No, my boyfriend will be out in a moment, getting some last minute stuff.”
He almost pouts, “He shouldn’t keep a gorgeous woman like you waiting-”
“I didn’t, she just offered to take some of our luggage out while I made sure we had everything.” Leon speaks, making the taxi driver straighten up.
“Let me grab that for you, Champion.” He reaches for the bag and Leon lets him take it without response.
Leon places a hand on my waist and opens the taxi door for me. I slip inside as Leon crawls in beside me and slams the door a little harder than needed.
I place a hand on his thigh, making him look at me in curiosity, “I’m yours, remember?” I whisper, making him smile softly.
“I love you,” he whispers back as the taxi lifts into the air.
“I love you more.” I smile as I lean my head onto his shoulder. When we land, Lee opens the door and helps me out before walking to the back and grabbing our bags. The driver gets out and offers to help but Leon waves him off. The two of us grab our things and Leon pays him before we enter the train station. Lee gets our tickets settled, the man behind the desk taking our bigger bags so we can settle and wait in the lobby until the train arrives. I turn my head and run my fingers through Leon’s wavy hair.
“You should show me how to style my hair.” He mutters softly, his hand resting on my thigh.
“You think I can do more than throw my hair up into a ponytail? You would be incorrect. No sisters, therefore, never experimented with styling.”
“You braided my hair-”
“Doesn’t mean I can do it on myself-”
“Big sad,” he mutters into my skin, making me giggle.
When the train arrives, the two of us hop on and settle in for a long ride. I fall asleep, not that Lee is surprised with my track record. When we get closer he shakes me awake so I can look out the window. When we pull into Wedgehurst, I smile. The two of us maneuver around everyone to get our luggage and head outside into the cool air.
“Lee!” A voice carries through the air, and after a minute I see Hop running toward us and throwing himself into Lee’s arms. “Finally, I thought you and (Y/N) would be here hours ago!”
Leon laughs as he sets Hop down, Hop spinning in his spot to tackle me in a hug. “Well we had to pack and get here so it took a little longer.”
“Fair,” Hop chuckles, hugging me tighter, “And it’s so nice to actually see you in person. We are going to have so much fun, I have to show you around the whole area-” Hop starts to ramble, and loses me pretty quickly, which causes me to giggle.
“How about we do that after we get settled back at home. I’d love for you to help show me around.” I say, pushing his hair back.
“I can do that!” He cheers, unravelling himself from me before grabbing Lee’s suitcase while Lee carries my large suitcase. “What’s in the big suitcase?”
“Presents,” Lee laughs watching as his brother’s eyes go wide.
“But they are from me so you have to wait, I need to finish wrapping them.”
“I can help if they aren’t mine!” Hop offers making me smile.
“Sounds like a plan, buddy,” I smile, ruffling his hair.
After settling inside, and warming up, I take some time upstairs in Leon’s childhood room wrapping presents with Hop, after wrapping his of course. The two of us sit cross-legged on the floor, wrapping paper, ribbons, and tape scattered around us.
“Lee wants to take you to the research lab so he can introduce you to Sonia and her aunt.”
“Her aunt? I know her Gran is the professor but who is her aunt?”
“Lee didn’t tell you?” I shake my head, prompting him to roll his eyes, “She runs a therapy center in Monostoke, they have speech, occupational, and physical therapy there and Lee mentioned you were looking for an internship and she wanted to meet you. She also wants to show you the clinic.”
“Oh so Lee is trying to make sure that I move to Galar after I graduate then?” I tease, making Hop laugh.
“He talks about you moving here all the time, buying a house, raising a family, the whole lot.” Hop smiles, he lets out a small content sigh, “I haven’t seen my brother this happy since he won the championships for the first time, and that is something.”
I blush softly, “He really is something else isn’t he.”
“He really is.” Hop smiles widely, “Do you have any siblings?”
I smile, bumping his shoulder. “A little brother, his name is Aiden and he is about your age. He was worried about me moving here, but I know Galar has a better paid time off system so I know I will be able to go and visit.”
“I hope you let him come at some point so I can meet him, I’ll show him all the ropes of being a great trainer.” Hop smiles as he tapes the last edge to Leon’s gift, “He is going to love this though, I hope you know.”
“Oh, he better, I spent so much time perfecting it,” I tease, giggling at the end. A knock on the door breaks the little moment, “Who is it?”
“Your loving boyfriend would like to come in and collect his girlfriend.” Lee calls through the door.
“She is busy at the moment!” I call back, taping the last of the gifts. I double check with Hop, confirming that we indeed finished. “Okay, now she’s not busy!”
Leon chuckles behind the door and opens it slowly, smiling at Hop and I sitting on his floor. He leans on the door frame, his phone floating by his head to snap a picture of Hop and I sitting on the floor. “Well, I was hoping I could steal you away from Hop to take you to the lab to talk with Sonia.”
I nod, smiling as I stand and brush off my pants. “Sure, let’s head.”
Lee and I walk hand in hand as we follow the path back into Wedgehurst. I swing our arms as we walk, making Leon laugh softly beside me. He smiles at me, lifting his hand and kisses the skin of mine. “I love you,” he whispers.
“I love you too.”
When we arrive at the lab, the two of us open the door and slip inside the warm building. In front of me are three women of varying ages. The youngest looks over at us and squeals when she sees us. “You’re here!”
“You never get this excited when it’s just me, Sonia.” Lee teases, being met with a scoff as Sonia pulls me into a tight hug.
“Whatever, Lee. I just want to hug your girlfriend.” She teases as I throw an arm around her as well. “God, look at you! You’re so pretty!”
“I’m pretty? You’re pretty!” I giggle as I hold her at arm’s length. “It’s so good to finally meet you.”
“Ditto,” she giggles. She claps her hands before pulling me into the building further, “Let me introduce you to my Gran and my Aunt.” Leon tags along behind me as we move forward. Sonia smiles excitedly as she stops in front of the women. “Gran, Aunt Samantha, this is (Y/F/N), Leon’s girlfriend. (Y/N), this is my Gran, Professor Magnolia, and my aunt Samantha who owns a therapy clinic in Monostoke.”
“It’s nice to meet you both,” I state.
Professor Magnolia reaches out and shakes my hand sweetly, “It’s nice to meet you, (Y/N). We have heard a lot about you from our dear Champion.”
Samantha smiles as she walks over, “And I heard from Sonia that you are graduating in the spring and are looking for a place to intern. Is that true?”
I nod while shaking her hand, “It is, but I have to talk to my professor before I can make any promises.”
“Well, I hope you can do it soon, I would love you to be a part of our team.” She smiles, “Actually, you should come to the clinic and see if you even like it first, two days from now?”
I go wide eyed and look at Leon, who nods as he chuckles. “I guess that would work!”
“I can go with you,” Sonia offers, wrapping an arm around my own and smiling at me, “I have to run errands in Monostoke so it’ll all work out.”
“Wonderful! Well, I have to head back actually, I have to meet with a patient in an hour so I need to take the train. See you all later!” Samantha calls, walking out the door after grabbing her coat.
Once she is out the door Sonia claps her hands, “Oh, (Y/N), I have your Rotom and phone ready so you can make calls from here more easily.” She grabs my hand and drags me over to a table as her Gran goes to talk to Leon. She opens a box to reveal a navy blue phone that is already in a case. She hands me a pokeball, “This gal is your Rotom, she will power your phone but she can only be used in Pokemon regions. So when you go home you can either pop by here and I’ll take care of her or Leon can.”
I open the poke ball and the Rotom comes flying out, zipping around my head before stopping a few inches from my face. “Hello there, it’s nice to meet you.” It buzzes before noticing the phone in my hand. It immediately zips into the phone, bringing it to life. The phone now circles around my head before stopping in front of me, showing me the pokedex.
“Oh, I also set up a pokedex for you, Lee gave me the list of Pokemon you knew so I went through and fixed those.”
“Fabulous,” I mutter as I swipe through. Sonia takes the time to explain more of the phone, and helps me to transfer my contacts from my original phone. Only when Lee places a hand on my shoulder do I realize how long we had been there.
“Mum texted and said food was ready, let’s head home, huh love?”
I nod, turning and hugging Sonia before I take Leon’s hand. “I’ll see you soon, m'kay?”
Sonia nods, “See you soon!”
~
I pull my sleep shirt, which is one of Leon’s shirts, over my head and replace it with a dressy shirt. I was going with Sonia to go see her aunt’s clinic today. She had offered to do an internship for half the summer, the latter half, doing some in-clinic and home care treatments of all ages. I liked the idea, and in turn emailed one of my professor’s who coordinated these events to give her the news. All she needed to do now was talk with Samantha about it further.
I look in the mirror that Leon had in the room as there was a knock on the door. “I’m decent,” I call as I pull my hair up into a ponytail and pin back most of the left over hair minus a few decent curls.
Leon steps in and stands behind me before wrapping an arm around my waist and pulling me into him. “You ready for today?”
I let out a content hum before nodding. “Yeah, she is going to take me to two appointments while Sonia does some errands to see if I like it. We are going to head over to Turrfield for one outside the clinic.”
Leon nods, and he gives me one last firm squeeze before setting me free. I turn and grab my socks to slip on when I notice him grab a belt from off his footboard. He motions me to stand before slipping the belt through the loops of my pants.
“Lee? I really didn’t need a belt, these pants are tight enough.”
He nods but still clips the belt once he had it toward the front. “I know, but I know you don’t have pockets with these pants either.” He states, adding a pokeball closest to the second loop and on the opposite side attaches my new Rotom phone to a harness.
“Who did you give me and why? Lee, I’m going to be with Sonia the whole time, you don’t have to worry-”
“I always worry, and I know Sonia is an experienced trainer, but that doesn’t mean I don’t worry about you.” He mutters, making sure everything is attached and won’t fall off. “Besides, I want you to be safe. You have Haxorus since she likes you so much, and I have updated your phone and Rotom is all ready to go.” He places his hands to my cheeks, forcing me to look up at him. “I’m just a phone call away if you need me. I’d tag along with you but Milo and Raihan are coming this way to discuss some stuff, so I have to stay here.”
I move forward and rub my nose against his, before pressing a quick kiss to his lips. “I am going to be fine, actually I am really excited for this trip. Try not to worry about me too much while I am gone, okay?”
“I will try,” he sighs, gently pulling away to grab my jacket. He opens it to help me shrug into it, then the two of us head down the stairs.
Sonia is standing in the kitchen with two travel mugs in hand while her Yamper sits at her feet. She turns to us and smiles widely, “What took you so long? We are gonna miss our train!”
“Train leaves in twenty minutes and it takes four to walk there from here, relax.” Hop mutters with a mouth full of cereal.
Sonia rolls her eyes as I grab my boots and slip them on. “Either way, we should head pretty soon.”
“I’m good to head now, Sonia.” I smile, letting out a laugh as Leon wraps a scarf around my neck and kisses my cheek. “I love you, have a good day, yeah?
"I’ll try-”
“You are so love sick, I think (Y/N) used charm on you.”
“Can’t deny that,” Leon teases with a wink, making me roll my eyes.
I give the rest of the family a wave goodbye before Sonia and I slip out the door and head to the train station. She talks about some things I should expect, as well as that most of the people will ask where I am from. “So should I just tell them I’m the Champion’s girlfriend,” I tease making her laugh and shake her head.
“I’d say probably not. Although I am sure you will be talked about more in the upcoming months.” She laughs, stretching softly.
“Next stop, Monostoke station!” The speaker blares, making her and I scramble to collect our things and settle in our seats. I tell Sonia about anything she wants to know: my family, school, Buster, and most importantly the real story about how Leon and I met. By the time we reach the station, I know that Sonia and I will be life-long friends.
Sonia grabs my wrist as we weave our way through the crowd. Once outside, Sonia lets go so we can walk side by side, little Yamper bouncing around in between our feet. She directs me over to the lifts, warning me to hold on as it moves up and to the side to take us to the lower level to the clinic.
I smile at the small building and step inside, waving at Sonia as she moves to head off somewhere else.
“(Y/N)! It’s good to see you! I have my next client coming in soon, why don’t you go talk with Rachel and sign some paperwork, okay?”
“Gotcha!” I call as I get shooed to the back office, Rachel, who is the receptionist, hands me some papers before sitting across from me explaining what each piece of paperwork was for. It doesn’t take me long to finish before I am swept into an appointment and starting to work alongside Samantha. Heart full.
“I really think you’ll fit in here,” Samantha boasts as we walk to Turrfield. “Seriously, you have the personality, you are easy to talk to, and once you know the area I feel like you will have no problem.”
“I’m really glad you think that,” I giggle, shifting the bag she had me carry to the other arm. “Do you usually walk to the appointments or ride a bike?”
“Normally I bike ride, but I didn’t have an extra so we are just gonna walk. Either way I have to worry about people who want to battle, so I usually have my 'on the job’ face on so no one bothers me.”
I nod in understanding, “Do I just tell them that 'I can’t battle’ if that happens to me in the future?”
She nods as she slows down, pointing out the house we were headed to. “Yeah, most people understand though, so there aren’t any hard feelings. If you do find someone who won’t leave it be you can always just ignore them.” She states as we come closer to the house. Samantha turns toward me with a smile, “Okay, now that we are here, let’s talk about what we are going to do.”
When Samantha and I return to the clinic, Sonia is already waiting. She smiles widely, waving at us, “I am starving. I’m so glad you both are back, let’s head over to the diner and grab a late lunch then (Y/N) and I can head back to the station.”
“Food!” I call making them both laugh.
“Alright, let’s go ladies!”
After eating and spending some time together, Sonia and I head back to Monostoke station, only to find out that the train hadn’t come from the Wild Area station due to Wooloo crossing.
“Okay, so we either have to walk through the Wild Area to that station or we can wait til they pass but that could be hours from now.” Sonia sighs, sitting next to me.
“I wouldn’t mind walking through the Wild Area, it can’t take us too long to walk there.” I sigh, standing.
“To the Wild Area it is.” She smiles, standing with me and waving to the man selling train tickets. She and I wander through town until we make it to the entrance.
“Holy shit that’s a lot of stairs,” I whisper, making her giggle.
“Yeah, it’s intense, but it’s the only way down. C'mon let’s go!” She calls as she starts down the steps.
“As long as I don’t have to walk up them, I will be happy.” I laugh, following her down. Once we make it to the bottom I let out a squeal of pure excitement. “Look at all the Pokemon!”
“You’re like a new trainer, it’s adorable.” Sonia laughs as we begin walking, avoiding the area where ghost Pokemon lurk.
“Well, this is probably the most I have seens since getting here so excuse me.”
The two of us just walk and talk until we get closer to the station. I laugh at something she says, until I see her face fall into horror, “Look out!” She yells, shoving me to the side as a boulder lands between us. But it’s not a boulder; no, it’s an Onix’s tail. “Move! Get up the hill-” she’s cut off as the Onix moves its attention from her to me, and my eyes go wide as I scramble to stand and run to the station. It roars out, swiping its tail at me which I barely dodge, tumbling to the ground.
I move to grab the pokeball on my hip, only to find it missing. “I lost Haxorus!” I cry, moving to try and stand again, “Sonia!”
Onix moves again, but before a move can be made Onix groans moving to the right. My eyes land on a Leafeon, tail raised in the air. The leaf on its head glows as leaves float around it before flying toward the Onix which cause it to back up and groan again.
A hand lands on my shoulder, pulling me to my feet, “Run! The little lady told you to run, go!” The guy yells and pushes me toward the station.
I scream as Onix’s tail lands in front of me, knocking me to the side again, and I tuck myself small. I hear Onix groan again, and I lift my head to see Leafeon standing in front of me in a defencive position. “Leafeon! Magical leaf!” I call out, watching as she tucks her head, the leaf on her head glowing as glowing leaves surround it and shoot at the Onix. It groans again retreats into the ground under it. I turn to see Sonia, she’s a bit scraped up, but nothing horrible, and the guy who had shoved me back toward the building is sitting on his bottom, clutching the side of his head. “Shit,” I hiss as I scramble to stand and run over to him, dropping to my knees as I gently grab his hand. “Let me look, fuck this is all my fault-”
“It’s not; that Onix has been causing trouble for trainers more and more lately. Too high a level for new trainers so we here have been trying to keep it at bay until someone can beat and catch it.” He winces as I check his head.
“Here, I have a first aid kit in my bag.” I whisper, shifting it off my back and setting it down next to me.
“Your Pokemon did a good job on that Onix,” he mutters as I gently dab at his wound.
“It’s nothing too deep so you shouldn’t need stitches,” I mutter, suddenly realizing what he said. “I don’t have a Pokemon, my boyfriend gave me his Haxorus which I need to look for,” I mutter softly as I grab a patch from the bag and tape it down. “You’ll need to check and clean that.” I say before standing, offering him a hand.
He takes it, pulling himself up and I make sure he is steady before letting go. “Thank you, again. I can help you look for your pokeball as a better thanks-”
“No need,” Sonia calls, and when I turn I let out a sigh of relief seeing that she had a pokeball in hand. “I think it popped off the belt in the squabble. If that’s Lee’s old belt then he should have remembered that it wasn’t very good at holding onto pokeballs in some situations, including battles that he had to move a lot in.” She shakes her head as she hands it over to me and I hold it close to my chest.
“I would have felt awful if I lost her,” I mutter, clipping it back to my hip before Sonia gasps. I go to turn and look until I feel something brush against my leg. I look down and find the Leafeon leaning against me, she lets out a small bark before moving so she is in front of me. I reach down cautiously and scratch behind her ear, finding it a little easier to breathe the closer I get, “Thank you for helping us, little one. You did a great job.” She hums, nuzzling into my leg, making me giggle.
“Seems to like you,” the guy mutters. “I’ve seen her around, but never let’s any trainers get close. You must be something special.”
Sonia nudges my shoulder, “We better go, Leon will be worried if we don’t get home soon.”
I nod, “Yeah we should.” Before the three of us get too far, I notice the Leafeon following close behind me. “Sonia, uh, we have a tag along.”
She looks back and laughs, “No, you definitely have a tag along. I would tell you to catch it, but I know you don’t have any balls on you.”
“Here,” the guy mutters, pressing a ball into my hand. It’s completely white minus the ring. “That’s a premier ball, should be able to catch her.”
I nod and take a moment to crouch down in front of the pokemon, “Hey, do- do you want to come with me? I might not be the best trainer but I sure as hell can try.” I press the button with my thumb, enlarging the ball, but before I can say anymore, the leaf on top of Leafeon’s head whips forward and taps the ball and it opens in my hand, light surrounding her and disappearing inside. It doesn’t wriggle once, instead immediately shuts and confirms the capture.
Sonia laughs, “Oh Leon is gonna be upset that he didn’t get to see you capture your first Pokemon.”
I give her a sheepish smile before standing, my Rotom floating into the air and showing me the pokedex. It shows me Leafeon’s entry, and asks if I want to give her a nickname. I settle on Ivy. Once I reattach my phone to my hip, Sonia and I get on the train headed home.
“Leon is going to be playing Chancey trying to take care of you tonight,” Sonia laughs as we exit the station, snow falling around us. “Did the dex tell you what level Leafeon is?”
“I didn’t check,” I laugh, feet crunching in the snow. As I pull out my phone I hear someone yell. “What was that-”
“Cutiefly! Is that you?”
“Oh, that’s Rai.” I laugh, Sonia rolling her eyes beside me. “Holy cow, Leafeon is at level fifty!”
“Seriously!” She leans over as the guys come into view, pushing each other playfully as they get closer. “That’s amazing!”
“How was your trip, ladies?” Leon calls, he is smiling, until he can see the rips in my pants. He starts walking a little faster until he is jogging toward us. “Arceus, what happened? Are you two hurt?”
“We’re fine, Leon-”
“Just got a little roughed up, no big deal-”
Raihan notices the extra pokeball on my hip and gives a wide smile, “I know Lee gave you Haxorus for your trip, but it looks like you brought one home.”
Leon gives him a funny look before looking down. He looks proud, “What did you catch, love?”
I laugh, unclipping the pokeball, “More like she chose me, c'mon out Ivy!” I toss the ball in the air and Leafeon lands in front of me.
Milo smiles, “She’s gorgeous! She looks like she has been well raised, maybe even released?” He crouches down to look at her, but her tail swishes and she moves so that she is behind me. Milo chuckles, “Yeah, she must have been released.”
“I wonder why, she’s really strong.” I mutter, leaning a hand down to brush it by her ear. She immediately bumps my hand with her nose, nuzzling my hand sweetly. “Someone must have trained her up then when she evolved she wasn’t what they wanted. It happens sometimes, it’s always sad, but they usually choose their next trainer.” Milo continues, his hand landing on my shoulder and giving it a squeeze. When I look up, he is still smiling, “Think she made a good choice choosing you, (Y/N).”
I smile gently before muttering a soft, “Thank you.”
Raihan yawns, moving around Milo to place a hand on my head playfully. “Well as much as I want to stay and chat, I need to get back to Hammerlocke, and I know farmer boy here needs to head back home too. Christmas is only a day away.” He rubs my head, and I swat his hand away before he pulls me into a hug, kissing my cheek playfully. “Bye guys, bye Lee, bye cutiefly. Have a happy holiday.” He waves at all of us before slipping inside the station.
“I agree, time to head home,” Milo says, a small yawn escaping his parted lips. “Good night guys, have a Happy Christmas.” He waves at everyone before slipping inside.
Sonia says goodbye to us as well, waving as she starts to head back to her Gran’s house.
“You sure you’re okay, Sonia?” I call before Leon grabs my hand.
She nods, “I think you were worse off, I am fine. Lee! Make sure to patch her up, yeah?”
He nods, and gives her a quick wave before turning and lifting me up bridal style to carry home.
“Lee!” I laugh, my arms going around his neck, “I’m fine, just a few cuts and bruises. I am okay.” He doesn’t say anything which worries me. I glance down and notice Leafeon is walking beside us, staying close enough to be seen by me but far enough away to not touch Leon. “Leon-”
“It could have been so much worse, what if you were by yourself-”
“I wasn’t though-”
“But what if, and what about Haxorus, why didn’t you use her?”
I sigh, “The pokeball fell off my belt before I could even throw it,” I look at his chest to avoid his eyes. “We had been so careful, nothing had bothered us, I’m sorry.”
“You should have called-”
“And what, 'Hey Lee don’t freak out but Sonia and I were attacked by an Onix on our way through the wild area to get to the train station cause there were Wooloo on the tracks between that station and the other so it would have taken us hours longer to get home’? No, I didn’t want to worry you, besides nothing awful happened-”
“But it could have-”
“Leon,” I place a hand on his face to make him look at me. “I may have cuts and bruises but I am here, nothing bad happened, and now you can baby me all you want. Uh, play Chancey as Sonia put it.” I see a twitch of a smile on his face, “You know, I had a lot of fun today besides that.”
“Oh did you?” He teases, bumping the gate with his hip to let himself back into his yard.
“Mhm,” I giggle, leaning into him.
“Well, you can tell me all about it while I patch you up, okay?” I groan, making him chuckle, “You said I get to play Chancey, and I am gonna take it.”

In 2014 I traveled around the United States photographing cosplayers in various cities. I spent a week in Nashville checking out the local scene and visiting around seven cosplayers. Pepper was one of them.
Hi Pepper, it’s been a long time since we spoke, why don’t you tell us a bit about yourself ?
I started out just being that shy weird redhead in middle school who loved anime and dressed weird, but as I grew and continued to watch anime and got into other shows one of my friends told me there was an anime convention in town called MTAC and asked if I wanted to go.
We only went for the day, but that was my first time ever seeing cosplay. It was back when you couldn’t find good wigs or patterns, and you just had to make it up as you went, but I absolutely fell in love with it and decided that I would do that too.
I definitely didn’t know that 18 years later I would still be doing it and still love it just as much.
So in 2014, I was in Nashville and you were kind enough to invite me to photograph some behind the scenes at your place. Tell me what you were working on ?
I was working on a Vaporeon dress for MTAC that year. Not for a group, but just because I love Vaporeon and was inspired by all of the Pokemon gijinka cosplays I had started to see pop up.  I believe I had just left college and moved back home to Nashville. I didn’t have any kind of plan for what I wanted to do yet so I was just going with the flow. I remember I had a terrible job that I hated back then so cosplay and sewing was a great outlet for me. MTAC was something that I looked forward to every year. It was my home con, and that’s where I made a lot of new friends and created a new con family.
Well, six years passed and it seems the world has changed. How has your experience in cosplay changed over time and what have you noticed different in the overall cosplay scene between say 2014 and 2019.
I feel like the con scene has exploded in popularity in the last 6 years. What used to be considered dorky and “uncool” is now looked at as amazing and super awesome which I’m definitely okay with. I love that our con culture is getting bigger and more accepted as “normal” society. But with the good also comes the bad. I feel that 6 years ago cosplayers were more open to complimenting each other on their work, and encouraging each other to do costumes. I remember being given tips and tricks openly and freely from cosplayers who had way more experience in sewing and crafting than I did.
Today I feel like some cosplayers don’t want to see others succeed. A lot of people are still very open and encouraging and welcoming to the cosplay scene, but there are a lot of “elitists” out there that think you shouldn’t cosplay a character just because you don’t look like a character, or don’t have the same body type, skin color, or maybe even mobility or because you have a lot of tattoos, and I hate that.
I truly believe cosplay is for EVERYONE who wants to do it. We don’t own the characters, but we love them. Every time you cosplay as someone from your favorite show (be it anime, comics, movies, books etc) it’s because you formed a bond with that character. It drives you to do the best you can with your skills and I think putting a costume that you worked on or bought and walking around a con is brave and should be something that everyone is allowed and welcome to do. Remember at the end of the day we’re all just geeks in costumes having fun!
Tumblr media
In your time doing cosplay, what would you say is your greatest achievement ?
It would definitely be at DragonCon 2017, when I was chosen to cosplay as Gwen Stacey from Spiderman and ride in the DragonCon parade with Stan Lee as the Grand Marshall. It was the most spectacular moment of my life. I had never been able to meet him before, and I can’t believe how incredibly lucky I was to sit next to him for the whole parade. He was so sweet, and also super hilarious. He talked to me and my contest mate (Ginger Oh Snap as MJ) the whole time like we were people he just hadn’t seen in a while. I’ll never ever forget it. I will definitely never be able to thank everyone who voted for me to win that contest enough
What’s your greatest struggle now (cosplay or life-wise)
Well I guess just right now the struggle is not being able to see my con family because of the pandemic. I probably won’t get to see them until next year and I don’t think I’ve gone a whole year in the last 10 years without seeing them at least once. At the beginning of all of this I was getting very depressed with all the cancellations (though for good reasons) but, life wise I’ve been doing a lot of online stuff with my cosplay between Instagram, Facebook, and creating an Only Fans page with my best friend. It’s been a great way to have a place to show off the costumes we won’t get to wear out this year, and just get my creative juices flowing again.
Now with so many years of experience, what advice would you give your younger self about cosplay, cosplay scene or convention life ?
I would definitely tell myself not to take it too seriously. You don’t have to make every single thing for your cosplay. People aren’t going to call you out for not being 100% made from scratch. Don’t stress out that you can’t find the right fabric or the right wig. Don’t even think about not doing a costume just because someone else has done it really well and you think yours won’t look as good. And if anyone does call you out for having bought your costume online don’t take it to heart, because at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. As long as you feel great wearing your cosplay and are having fun that is really all that matters.

Chapter 2 Beginning in Kalos
“Where is he?  He should’ve gotten off that plane by now.”   A teenage girl sighed as she leaned against a pillar in an airport in Lumiose City.  She looked light she had just come from a Gothic rave, her dark hair was done in a twintale style that reached her butt, two purple streaks went down her hair facing her front.  She was wearing a black tube top that had a small v that showed the sides of her large breasts and that exposed her midriff with a black open vest over it with a tight short skirt that ended at her upper thighs with a belt around her waist with six pokeballs, knee high black boots completed the outfit.  Her face was heart shaped; her lips were a shiny black and her eyes had purple eye shadow that brought attention to her blue eyes, a pair of sunglass with black gems in the frame was around her neck on a chain. Next to her was a small bag, out of place for a traveler if not for some tech from home.  She snorted as she saw some of the other women glare at her and the men around her stare at her in lust but not a single one had even an ounce of courage to approach her.  A few of the younger girls were staring at her in wonder and a few might have talked to her if their mothers hadn’t been there but then again this wasn’t home so maybe she could cut them slack based on different culture.
So this is why everyone back home hate outside assignments so much. She thought to herself, this was why they preferred to stay in their home; at least there people could dress how they wanted without people talking about them, at most they commented about the fashion behind hands and doors, and if a man looked at her like some of them were he would have at least walked over to talk to her by now.  Lady Camilla had grabbed her from that party her cousin had dragged her to and thrown her on that train to the airport so fast she had to have two of her Item Cubes with her full wardrobe and her Aura Equipment sent to the airport. And she only got it a half hour before she was told to board the plane, so when she got to the travelers hotel later tonight she could put her cloths and outfits for her mission in order, but she had to be carrying her ‘Party Clothes” Cube in her bag with her Cube Reader, ‘Founding Day is an excuse to dress differently at every party you go to’, she would never listen to her cousin about stuff like that again.
 “Boss I really, really hope that old man was right about her and him; for your sake at least.”  She muttered as she looked to the doors to the tarmac as they opened and she glazed upon the woman walking in with a Helioptile on her shoulder.  For an instance seeing it brought a flash of rage to her face, but she forced herself down, the woman wasn’t one of those sexiest Inquisitors, those bastards had been slaughtered by Sir Mordred and a woman would never be one of the Knights!
 “Hmm, good figure, clothes and makeup could do with some work but her muscles seem to hint that she’s someone who makes a living by traveling so she probably has some stamina, not the best but I’ve recruited worse.  At least if it not really him…” She trailed off as she saw the figure follow her in. A blue short-sleeve jacket, a red hat on black hair, darker blue jeans, red shoes and a black shirt under the jacket and his face, it was like looking at a younger version of the boss.  The Pikachu riding on his shoulder sealed the deal, this was her target and by the boss he was who they hoped he was.
 “I will never ever bet against the longshot ever again.” She grinned as she reached down and grabbed her bag and started to watch her target walk with the woman over to a city map outside the airport.  They talked for a minute before he ran off.  The woman he had been with smiled good naturally as she watch him dash off, but this left Lilith with a dilemma.
 “Hmm, I could try to catch up with the princeling… or I could chat up that cutie and get his destination from her directly, what should I do?” She smirked as she brought a black painted nail to her lips, a smirk on her face as she looked at Alexa.
   Alexa smiled as she and her Helioptile shared a look with each other about their friend's exuberance. She did feel a little bad that her sister had to have gone on a journey without sending any word to her, but that was her sister for you.  As she walked back toward the airport to her get her bag she collided with someone as she walked through the door.
 "Ohmph." Alexa cried as she fell backwards, her Helioptile fell off her shoulder and she fell on her bottom.
 "Sorry about that, I wasn't looking where I was going." A female voice said as a hand with black nail polish reached down to help her up. Alexia grabbed the hand and got to her feet checking that her pokemon was okay before turning to the person she bumped into.
 "No problem. .." Alexa trailed off as she stared into blue eyes that seemed to take up her entire view.  She felt herself drifting away, until all she could see was the color blue.
 "Say, about that boy you were with, could you tell me where he was going?"
  Alexa shock herself awake as her Pokémon started to shake her, looking up she realized she was inside the airport with her bag siting by the escalator.
 "Helioptile, how'd we get inside and get my bag?  I… it doesn't matter, let's make sure we didn't miss our bus and have to have Gogoat take us home once we get out of town."  Alexa said as she and her Pokémon walked away, not noticing a female shadow with a grin on its face, a fang poking out of her mouth as she blew a kiss after Alexa.
 "Thanks for everything Alexa dear, we'll meet again and we'll see what side you’ll be on when we're done."
   “So the prince is headed for the cities gym, a fierce start worthy of his father.”  Lilith mused as she walked toward the gym.  All she had to do was watch the entrance, scan him and send a report back home.  As she got insight of the tower she stopped dead when she saw Ash and his partner thrown out of the pokeball symbol on the building.  She raised her hand began to cast a spell when she heard two voice much closer to her target
 “I’ll try to catch that boy!”
“I’ll catch Pikachu!”
 Lilith stopped her spell as she saw a blond boy in blue and yellow jumpsuit and black and white tennis shoes throw a backpack under the prince that released a crash pillow while a blond little girl wearing a dark brown blouse with a black ribbon on the chest, white skirt, black shorts, and pink Mary Jane flats grab the prince’s Pokémon. She breathed a sigh of relief as the blond girl was shocked by the Pikachu.
 “Quick thinking you two now let me cast a quick scan while I can.”  Lilith muttered as she put her sunglasses on.
 “Tool to see, Sight beyond, Show me that which hides from All.” She chanted as her glasses glowed pitch black.
 “So the two of them are brother and sister hu, the boy’s aura shows that he has quite a mind and the girl is someone who wants her brother to have someone in his life, something about their father and mother?  Looks like I could teach her a few things, but let’s take a look at the prince.…how in Arceus’s name is he able to walk let alone think with those seals on him?”  She asked herself in horror at what she over a hundred seals on his Aura.  She reached with a shaking hand to touch one of the gems in her glasses and started to chant.
 “Sights Seen, Sights Unseen, capture them for All to See.”  She popped the gem out and ducked into a nearby alley to and grabbed one of her pokeballs.
 “Fly high, Murkrow.” She called as the ball opened in midair and released a black flying type with a crooked yellow beak.
 “Murkrow, Murkrow.” The Flying type chanted as it appeared and landed on an out stretched arm.  Lilith slipped the gem into a necklace around its neck, reached into her bag and pulled out two blue colored pieces of hollowed metal shaped like her wings which were met with a look of worry from the Flying type.
 “Girl, I know these make it so you can’t fight with your wings, but you need the Wing Sheaths to make it back even sooner than with the Wind Road alone, this report has to get to Lord Magnus sooner then you could normally, it’s that important.” Lilith said as her Flying type looked her in the eye before raising its wings straight up to make equipping the Wing Sheaths that much easier.  After a quick fastening she was ready, Lilith had a look of pride on her face as she gave out her orders.
 “Thanks girl, now go, as fast as you can, but stay safe.  The boss has to find out what the state of his son is so the prince can be helped as soon as possible.”  Lilith said as she scowled at what had been done to Ash.  If his mother had anything like that done to her, the boss was going to find the people responsible for this affront of Aura itself and impale them alive, and they would deserve  it.  As her Murkrow shot off into the open sky, climbing higher as she flew away from the alley, Lilith looked down at her cloths and remembered the airport and gave a short sigh.
 “Better hide behind an illusion for a while.   To Walk Unknown Upon the Land, Change my Form to What I Command.”  Lilith chanted as a black flash covered her body.
 As the flash faded away a completely new Lilith had completely changed her appearance!  Where a gothic party girl was, there was now a teenage honor student stood in her place.  She wore a white dress; grey heels with only a hint of makeup on her face, red hair flowing down her back and a modest figure with B-Cup breasts.
 "So not my style; but beggars don't slip by the hungry Snorlax." She muttered as looked for her target, but was unable to spot him.
 "The seals must have shocked me more than I thought to lose track of him so.... Mandibuzz, take flight!  Fly around and find me a trainer with a Pikachu with two blonds!" She cried as she released her other Flying type.  Her Pokémon had a Searcher Gem in a tiara on her head, so she could identify types from above, and she was trained to identify targets in groups. She would soon know where he was, and with a chant she would see what her Pokémon saw.
 "Sight Of All, Sights Beyond, Share with me What the Searcher Saw."  She chanted as she closed her eyes, and saw through the vision of her Pokémon augmented by the Searcher's Gem, a rainbow of colors representing the Pokémon and humans within the city.
 After spotting an electric with three normal auras next to one of the town's Pokémon arena, she ended her spell and ran toward the battlefield, mentally going over how she would interact with the prince, as a Trainer or a Coordinator?  She did have a flare for glamor and showmanship from her time on the circuit, but she had a few powerhouses with her, maybe bring out her whip and say her family lives in one of the Old Regions that still followed the Treaty of Defense?
 “Wobbuffet, time to Shine.”
 “What is this?” Lilith muttered as she hid behind a tree.  She saw two people in white with red R’s on their cloths behind a Meowth and a Wobbuffet face down the blonds and the prince, she recognized the uniform from tactical information about Kanto.
 “Team Rocket of Kanto, after the prince; are we?”  She snarled as she started to release a purple aura as she watch the prince’s Pikachu be hit with its own attack by the Wobbuffet.
 “ We’d better retreat. Using Mirror Coat reflects special attacks with double the power!” we can’t stand up to that kind of strength.” Blondie boy said he looked at Ash
 “Gotta give Blondie points for tactical ability; but minus points from turning away from the threat to talk to someone.  But this might give me an opening.”  Lilith mused as she grabbed one of her pokeballs.
 “We’ve always stood up to them before and we always will! As long as Pikachu is okay, as long as Pikachu doesn’t give up I’ll be right here, battling to the end!” Ash cried as he stood back up and unfelt by all but Lilith, he released a spike of aura energy before the seals sapped it back.
“Boss, if I doubted he was your boy, its’ so gone now.” Lilith said in a tiny bit of awe in her voice over the feeling Ash’s speech had invoked in her had echoes of his some of his father’s speeches.
 “All you’ll get is reruns.” The Female Rocket cried in response to Ash’s words.
 “Now, Pikachu, Electro Ball” Ash commanded.
 “Pik! Pika! Pika! Pika! Pika!” Pikachu cried jumped up and generated the attack its trainer ordered.
 “We’ll help you out, too! Bunnelby, use Mud Shot!” Blondie cried.
 “You’re on, Wobbuffet!” Female Rocket cried out.
 “Wob! Buff! Buff! Buff!” Wobbuffet cried as it jumped up, dodging the Mud Shot while activacting Mirror Coat, bouncing the Electro Ball back toward Pikachu.
 “Pikachu!” Pikachu cried out as its mouth dropped open before a small blue pokemon jumped between the attack and the electric type.
 “Froakie!” It cried before the attack hit and exploded.
 The blue pokemon land after the attack with Pikachu in its arms, electric sparks crawling over its blue skin.
  Ash gritted his teeth; Pikachu was fine but only because a small blue pokemon had intercepted an electric attack sent back by Wobbufett, a rookie mistake!  The pokemon in question was a small one that had light blue skin, white hands, and a dark blue stripe from the center of its oval head to its nose, its eyes were closed.  By its skin tone he had to guess it was a water type, but it had a mane of…clouds around its neck that he was made him wonder if it was a dual type.
 “It’s a Froakie!” Clemont cried as he and Bonnie ran over to Ash.  At the look Ash sent him he went on.
 “It’s a water-type that new trainers can get in Kalos. So that Electro Ball must have done lots of damage.” Clemont continued as he looked back as Froakie tensed as electricity ran over its skin.
 “So where is its Trainer?” Ash asked with a worried look in his eyes as he, Clemont and Bonnie looked around as Froakie hoped toward Team Rocket.
 “Where’s Froakie going?” Bonnie asked in confusion.
 “Froakie Froak!” it cried out.
 “What’s with the yapping?” Jessie wondered.
 “I think that Froakie wants to help us.”  Ash said as he stood back up.
 “Fro!” Froakie cried as it opened its yellow eyes and glared at Team Rocket
 “Froakie’s saying bad guys rub it the wrong way!”  Mewoth cried as its mouth dropped open
 “You can’t take them on if you’ve been hurt! Stop!” Ash cried as he raced to Froakie as it inflated the back of its mane and jumped toward Team Rocket.
 “Froakie!” Ash cried as he looked on in concern.
 In midair it grabbed the inflated part of its mane with its hand and threw toward the Rocket operatives.
 “Wow, Froakie just used its Frubbles!” Bonnie cried out as her and her brothers mouths dropped open in shock.
 “Big whoop! We’ll just send that right back at you!”  Jessie sneered as Wobbuffet jumped and activated its Mirror Coat, only for the move to have no effect as the Frubbles hit Wobbuffet, forcing it backwards as the remaining Frubbles hit Jessie, James and Meowth.
 “What’s this?”
 “I Can’t get this gunk off!” Jessie and Meowth cried as Team Rocket struggled against the sticky frubbles.
 “How come it didn’t bounce back?” Ash wondered in confussion.
 “Of course!  Froakie’s gummy Frubbles isn’t a move, so Wobbuffet’s Mirror Coat was completely ineffective!” Clemont exclaimed as he realized what had happened.
 “Awesome, Froakie, way to go! Pikachu and I can take it from here!”Ash cried as he and Pikachu advanced to stand by Froakie as the frog like Pokémon looked at Ash.
 “We’ll lend a hand, too”
“Bunnelby!”  Clemont and his pokemon proclaimed as they stood next to Ash.
 “You guys better not forget about me!” Bonnie declared as she ran next to Ash on his other side and puffed her cheeks.
 “Now, Bunnelby, us Dig!”
“Bunnel-brree!” Clemont command as his Pokémon jumped and used its ears to tunnel into the earth, coming up under Team Rocket, sending them skyward.
 “Yeah! Way to go!”
“Nice work, Bunnelby!” Bonnie and Clemont cried as they saw Team Rocket fly into the air.
 “Let’s wrap this up! Pikachu, Thunderbolt, go!” Ash cried as Pikachu and Froakie both jumped into the air, Pikachu fireing a Thunderbolt and Froakie throwing a water bubble that merged and hit Team Rocket together.
“We’re blasting off again!”
“Wobbuffet!”  Team Rocket cried as they disappeared into the sky.
 “Wow! Awesome power!” Bonnie declared as both Pikachu and Bunnelby ran to their trainers.
 Froakie groaned as it collapsed to the ground.
 “Froakie!  Something’s wrong!”  Ash cried as he ran to the water type and took it into his arms as the others gathered around them.
 “Froakie needs help right away.”  Clemont said as he looked at the water type, seeing the injuries he had sustained in their defense.
 “Is there a Pokémon Center?” Ash demanded as he stood up with the water type in his arms.
 “Well from here, I’m trying to think…” Clemont trailed off as he looked around, trying to remember where the Pokémon Center was.
 “I think it would be a lot quicker if we brought Froakie to the Professors lab instead!”  Bonnie declared as the others looked at her.
 “The Professor?
“Yeah, Professor Sycamore’s Research Lab! There’s no doubt he’ll know how to help Froakie!” Clemont answered Ash as he turned to his Pokémon hold out its Pokeball.
 “Bunnelby, return Thanks a lot!  You really helped out!”  Clemont said with a smile.
 “Come on Ash, this way!”
“I’m coming Bonnie!”  Ash ran after the younger girl with the water type in his arms, Pikachu on his shoulder, Clemont grabbed their bags before hurrying after his sister and his new friend.
 If he’s this strong with only one Pokémon, I can’t wait to see what he’s like with a full team!  Lilith thought with a smirk on her face.  She signaled her Mandibuzz to follow their target, while she trailed the elder blond.  After a while she saw him go into a building behind a steel gate, this must be the Professor Sycamore’s lab.  Seeing her searcher in a tree along the road, she then moved into a nearby ally, quickly checking to make sure that no one was looking or could overhear her, she chanted a spell.
 “Send my Voice, Unheard to Others, To my One Amongst them all.  Girl, I’m heading to the hotel.  Stay here, head over once and perch across from where my room is supposed to be so I can recall you when you get there.”
 Seeing her Pokémon nod, she move deeper down the alley, dropping her illusion around herself, time to rest from all the traveling she had been doing.  Slipping back onto the main roads, she headed toward where her hotel was.  Her target had finished with the only excitement he was going to have today, so time to finish her planning.  As she walked her mind went to the older and started to walk with a swing to her hips.   She didn’t know why, but there was something about him….
  OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  The flying type had flown through the Wind Road with the aid of the Wing Sheaths, dodging flocks of migrating flying types as she flew toward her destination.  For the last few minutes she had felt something, was she being hunted, on the Wind Road, the neutral territory for all flyers?   She hugged her wings to her body and dropped 50 feet, dodging a silver blast of energy by seconds.  Pumping her wings she risked a glance backwards, spotting a trio of Skarmory in arrow formation pointed at her.  Hearing the other flying types react to the attack she increased her knowing they were after her she flew faster she tried to think why they had committed such a taboo, what could she do?  Angling down she flew out of the Wind Road, she would need every advantage to escape.  Barreling to the right as she her instincts screamed out at her, she saw one the Skarmorys fly by with a white glow about it, as it flew past she realized with horror, that they were trained!  They had to have been looking for something, did their trainer know about her mission, her trainer’s mission, what she was carrying?!!  Looking ahead she spotted a group sea-stacks ahead of her, she was nearly home, and she could use this, she had to gamble on her movability to escape she just had to bait them.
 Flying slow with while trying to act like her wing was hurt she flew between the pillars as the three Steel-Types followed her. The three Skarmorys flew faster as they moved in for the kill; their master will receive a prize soon.  Dodging blasts of silver energy from her pursuers she flew between the rocks hoping to escape them.  After a while she looked back and saw a single Skarmory chasing her before…. She was blindsided by one of the other two, it had come at her from above, tackling her onto one of the sea stacks
 She moved her body up from where she had crashed and saw the three Skarmory land around her and slowly walk toward her.  She prepared herself to fight to her end when six energy rays hit the three Armor Bird Pokémon.  Around her landed three Pidgeotto while two more hovered with a Pidgeot, each had a look of anger on their faces for the actions that the three had performed on the Wind Road, it was neutral territory for all who used it.  The three Skarmory didn’t even reacted as 5 more of them landed on surrounding rock pillars as one of the three in formation gestured with a wing at her and convoyed the command to leave her and go.  As the Bird Pokémon braced themselves for battle a blast of fire hit two of the Skarmoys on the pillars behind the standoff before energy blasts hit the other three.
 “I didn’t want to believe what my boys told me, but it seems they had seen the situation clearly.”  A gruff voice said as a shadow covered the pokemon.  Raising her head, the Dark Flying type saw an Aerodactyl, one of the Elites was here, she and her rescuers were safe, with that realization she let herself stop fighting, and passed out.
  She awoke to the smiling face of one of the Pidgeotto in a room with medical supplies all around it, she was in one the Homelands Care Centers, she was home.
 “That one wouldn’t leave until you woke up, I guess what they say about Pokémon loyalty is not to be questioned.”  A melodies voice said from the doorway.  Walking into the room was a pale woman with red hair in a bun wearing a nurse’s outfit under a lab coat with a smile on her face that turned to a frown as the nurse saw the effort her patient was making to rise and leave the bed the Flying type was in.
 “You were only out for about two hours, so if your message is time sensitive you should make it on time. You can go as soon I slip this note for your trainer around one of your legs.”  The Nurse said as she moved toward the bed, did what she said and opened the window.  With a bow to the healer the Murkrow took flight.
  Joy sighed as she saw the Murkrow leave with the Pidgeotto flying into the sky, it was to early for this. In all the years she had be in residence here at Castle Town, Pokémon on missions for their Trainers always gave her such problems, they always pushed themselves for ‘time sensitive missions’, really, drama queens 9 times out of ten the lot of them.  Not to mention the problems Founding Day always brought to her Care Centers.
 “Headmistress Joy? Headmistress where are you?”  A female voice called worriedly from outside.
 Back to the grindstone, at least the patents from Founding Day parties are all almost gone.  Joy thought as she walked out to see a black haired woman in a business suite running toward her.
 “Yes Sara, what problems have come up now?”
 “The Skarmorys that were brought in their all dead!  No, they were dead BEFORE the General and his team killed them, they had machines inside!” Sara stammered as Joy lost what little color she had, what her assistant described was one thing only, a thing that her King had tried to destroy down to the roots of knowledge.
 “Frakenmon.”  Joy whispered in horror before her eyes hardened and she walked down the hall.
 “Have the most intact of the corpses brought to Operating Theater 1, contact Lady Camilla with what findings we have.  I want a full security team ready to transfer whatever I can carve out for a full diagnostics wherever it’s decided to send them, contact all off duty morticians report to theaters not in use to carve up the rest of them.”  Joy ordered as she pounded her way to her Theater, time to find some answers about where the bastard who made these things might be hiding.
  As the Pidgeotto followed after her she heard it call out a traditional parting she returned as angled upwards before she saw the castle above the town.    There was her target.  She flew as fast as she could and when she reached the window she started to peck when it opened to let her in.
 The room was full of occult books and tapestries, model of the solar system hovered near the ceiling without wires, near the door rested a staff.
 “I believe you have a scan of my Nephew for me to look over little friend?”  A cultured male voice said as the Murkrow proudly landed on a desk and puffed out its chest, the gem it had protected had reached its destination and the person who would help the Prince.  After a rest and some food she would return to her trainer with her mission completed.
 “I think this is the Flying type me and my team rescued a few hours back my friend.  Good thing I decided to bring the patrol a few miles out after all.”  The gruff voice from the Aerodactyl said as the gem left the necklace and a hologram of Ash with seals running all over his body appeared over the desk.
 “I don’t think the Master will like what has been done to these two comrades.”  A voice sighed the three shadows converged at the desk.

The sound of your phone receiving a text message cuts through the dark silence of the early morning. You groan, peeling one eye open to glare at your nightstand. Really? You reach over because your curiosity is too strong even in your three-quarters still asleep state. Luckily, “pre-sleep you” was smart enough to dim your screen before going to bed so the dulled brightness is only a little assaulting to your retinas when you push the home button. Immediately, a tired smile spreads your mouth wide, all animosity felt toward the sender diminishing when you see that it’s none other than the boy you’ve been texting nonstop for the past two weeks.
Joonie: hey, r u awake?
Y/N: I am now :)
Joonie: shoot Im sorry …
Y/N: no its okay. I would hav been mad if it was anyone else.
Joonie: well, I promise I hav a reason for texting u this early.
Y/N: yea, u do realize its still dark outside, right?
Joonie: thats actually why I texted u. R u busy?
Y/N: …what do u think?
Joonie: right. duh. sleeping. well…
Joonie: do u want to go for a ride with me?
Y/N: a ride? like a car ride?
Joonie: um…not exactly…how quickly could u get ready?
Y/N: depends on what “ready” means.
Joonie: hmm dress for cold weather.
Y/N: its the middle of summer, joon. Even at 4 in the morning its already prolly 60 degrees out. How cold r we talking here?
Joonie: really cold.
Y/N: Im confused.
Joonie: just trust me.
It feels so wrong to be shrugging on the winter coat you had to dig out of the back of your closet as you head out of your apartment. Luckily, no one else is out at this ungodly hour which saves you from having to endure the confused looks. Though if you did run into someone, they’d see that you’re just as confused. That is, until you make it outside where Namjoon said he’d be to meet you. You expected him to be waiting for you in his car. Even on foot wouldn’t be as surprising as the scene you step into once you’re out the front door of your apartment.
Your eyes settle on the giant, orange dragon standing in the middle of the road. The thing is massive. You’ve seen a few Dragonite in your lifetime but never one as big as this thing. It has to be at least twelve feet tall. And while initially it’s terrifying to see such a giant Pokémon just standing there right outside of your apartment—and staring at you, nonetheless—the fear melts away as you meet its eyes. There’s something gentle about the way it looks at you curiously. Its rounded nose and crinkling eyes almost make it look like the thing is smiling.
“Hey, Y/N!”
You only just now realize that the Dragonite isn’t here by itself and you tear your gaze away from its own to look further back at the boy sitting just above its wings.
“Namjoon?” His own eyes lift along with his mouth into a bright smile and even though it’s dark out—the only light being that from the streetlamp across the street and down a bit—you can still see those deep dimples that had you captivated in the first place. “What are you doing here?”
“I was wondering if you wanted to go for a ride,” he says and reaches up to pat his Dragonite on the head. The Pokémon lets out a contented noise, the sound echoing down the block and you take an intimidated step backward.
“Uh, is it safe?” you ask. That was a dumb question. Obviously it is or Namjoon wouldn’t be offering, right?
“Completely,” he replies then swings his leg out from over its wing and slides down off its back. He holds out a hand to you and smiles wider, those dimples growing impossibly deeper. “I have a surprise for you.”
You look down at his offered hand. You haven’t known Namjoon for very long. You met him only about a month ago when he first started volunteering at the Pokémon Center you work at.
You remember his first day there, how you couldn’t seem to keep your eyes from wandering over to him whenever the two of you were in the same room. How you couldn’t help but go a bit soft when you saw the way he handled each Pokémon with such care and tenderness, how he’d speak so gently to them, how they would visibly relax at his soothing words.
He was nice to you from the get-go. The two of you would exchange playful banter and joke around quite a bit. It was obvious you liked each other and you wanted to address it, but at the same time you were so worried that he was just one of those guys that’s nice to everyone and to say anything would just make things awkward. It was a relief when he finally broke down and asked for your number. You gave it to him maybe a little too eagerly but luckily for you, he thought your excitement was cute—and you blushed when he said as much.
But here he is now, that gentle smile on his handsome face, his eyes sparkling, his hand held out to you and you can’t help but feel intrigue and excitement bubbling up inside you. Even if it weren’t for your overpowering curiosity, what kind of person would pass up the opportunity to ride on the back of a Dragonite? And a giant one nonetheless. These are your last thoughts as you shyly reach up to place your hand in his and smile back at him. His hand is so warm wrapped around yours and so solid as he tugs you toward the giant Pokémon behind him.
You watch as Namjoon climbs back up onto it then he reaches down and you wrap your fingers around his wrist. He grips your own wrist and pulls hard. You can’t help the squeal that escapes as he pulls you up so easily with just his one arm. You scramble up, being careful where you place your feet so you don’t accidentally step on the joint where the wings connect to the dragon Pokémon’s back as you settle down behind Namjoon. He still has ahold of your one hand and now you reach around with the other to join it with the first.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Dragonite as big as this one,” you say. He feels so warm and solid in your arms even through both of your coats.
“I rescued it when it was still just a Dratini from that lab on Cinnabar Island.”
“I’ve heard of that place,” you say. “They do some pretty awful stuff there to Pokémon, don’t they?”
“Yeah,” Namjoon utters and you can hear the anger in his voice. “I’m not sure what they did to it but it was already bigger than any Dratini I’d ever seen before. And I knew that wasn’t normal and that I needed to get it out of there. Luckily, there doesn’t seem to be any other negative effects from whatever they did to it.” Namjoon pats the Pokémon on the head again, eliciting another happy, echoing moan from it.
“You’re amazing,” you utter and immediately feel your cheeks turn red. Did you really just say that out loud?
Namjoon turns his head so he can see you out of the corner of his eye and his cheek lifts in another dimpled grin. “Nah,” he says. “I just try to be a good person, you know?”
You nod and the two of you sit in silence atop the Pokémon for several more moments.
“So, uh,” you finally say. “Is this what you wanted to show me?”
Namjoon perks up. “Oh right,” he says and gives his Dragonite two firm pats on its neck. The Dragonite shifts, dipping its head low and unfolding its wings from either side of you. Then with a hard push against the ground, it kicks up into the air and you squeal, clutching onto the boy in front of you for dear life.
He lets out a chuckle. “It’s okay, Y/N,” he assures you. “Just keep ahold of me and you won’t fall.”
“Will do,” you reply though you don’t think he can hear you over the wind whistling past your ears.
It’s a good thing you’re holding onto him so tightly because as soon as the Dragonite reaches an incredibly terrifying height—the city lights below you now looking more like stars than the actual ones above you—you remember reading that Dragonite can actually fly faster than the speed of sound. And just as you tighten your grip even more on Namjoon’s waist, the dragon Pokémon shoots forward, cutting through the night sky like a bullet. You grit your teeth and press your cheek against Namjoon’s back to keep the wind from stealing your breath away.
Much to your relief, it’s not long before you feel the Dragonite begin to slow down again and when it’s at last going at a more comfortable pace, you lift your head and peer around. It’s still kind of dark out but now the sky is more of a medium blue and the stars have disappeared. Nothing but ocean stretches for miles below you.
“Where are we?” you ask looking around confusedly.
“Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean,” Namjoon replies nonchalantly.
You nod slowly. “And why, exactly are we somewhere over the Pacific Ocean?”
The boy places his hands over your own. They’re much warmer than yours and suddenly you’re glad he told you to dress warmly because it is freaking freezing up there over the ocean. “Because I wanted to show you that,” he says then nods at the horizon in front of him.
You focus farther ahead, past Namjoon’s shoulders and over Dragonite’s head until your eyes land on the line where the ocean ends and the sky begins. At first, you can’t see much of a separation between the two similar shades of blue, but then a sliver of bright orange appears, awakening the sky, shooting streaks of lavender upward. Your breath catches as you watch in silent awe.
The sun rises faster than you thought it would, every inch it gains throwing different colors like buckets of paint across the sky. From dazzling pink to sherbet orange to marigold, and the ocean reflects them all back, the rising sun at the epicenter of this incredible masterpiece being created before you.
You feel tears spring to your eyes and you immediately feel like an absolute dork for being moved to tears by something like a sunrise but the sight along with the feeling of Namjoon’s thumbs rubbing circles across the back of your hand just sends your emotions into overdrive.
This is perfect.
This is perfect and you never want it to end. In a moment of impulsivity, you lean forward and rest your chin on Namjoon’s shoulder. The simple gesture feels so intimate in this silence and maybe he sees it as that too because you hear his breath hitch and his thumb freezes on your skin for a split second before continuing the motion. His own cheek rests against the side of your head and you sigh.
Too perfect.

The Light - Ch 2
[Virginia stepped outside and was stunned to see it was already night. Or maybe it was much earlier than her or her mother thought. She looked at the ticket to check the time but couldn't find one… Curious. Ah well, she was out of the house and allowed to explore, no way was she going back to let her mother know the technicalities!
Iki Town was all uphill but Virginia didn't mind. The night was beautiful and as her mother said, getting to see a show by herself was a real treat. She was more than rested and no one else was around, so she lets herself muse aloud as she played out her future success.]
Virginia:
Alright, Verge! You're in the middle of a challenge! We gotta win, and we're going to win if you just-! [What was that?! Her excitement dies down as she starts to look around. No one was in sight… so why did she feel like she was being watched? She curls her fists as she glances at the tall grass that had made its way across the road. Didn't Mom say the path should be clear? Hnnnggg… but it had been years since her mother lived here. Longer than Virginia had been alive. Maybe the road had gone into neglect. She starts to back away though as the grass starts to rustle, but the creature suddenly charges toward her in full on aggression!]
Yungoos:
[Slows down in her charging as she sizes up her target, her sharp teeth bared as she approaches, but it comes off as something of a sick smile on her face] Light… I love Alola's light… so warmmm…
Virginia:
St-stay back! I don't have any lights! I didn't even bring a flashlight!
Young Man's Voice:
Over here!
Man's Voice:
What's going on?!
[The Yungoos pauses as her attention turns to the road behind the girl. She lets out a low growl as she bristles her fur in anticipation before a Litten darts between Virginia and the Yungoos as a Rowlet lands beside him.]
Litten:
Ah, it's you! [Little less concerned and grows a bit haughty as he stares down the menace.] I saw a couple of Skull Grunts pass by, but they were heading the other way. I sure wish you punks would try challenging the League or something instead of causing so much trouble all the time.
Virginia:
Did you-??? [That was the same voice she heard a moment ago. She can't help but look back wondering if the other voice she heard was a Trainer. …. No one. Well not really no one since there seemed to be a straggler in this wild pack.]
Popplio:
[Little slow to the party as he pulls up on the other side of Litten. He was wasn't built for land, you guys!] Wait a minute, Zossie?! What are you doing out here? We've been looking for you. We know you were the one to tear up the Boss's chair, but he's not mad-
Yungoos:
[Scoffs at him] It tasted like cardboard and electrical appliances. [Her smile turns a bit wider, more disturbing as she gazes up at the girl again.] I've found something better… more tempting…
Rowlet:
Why not have a taste of this? [He hops a moment and appears to reach for something under his wing, but it's not an item that flings out from underneath. Leafage attack! … It doesn't do much, but made her flinch.]
Yungoos:
[Did not like that at all! She rears back a moment and looks ready to return the favor but the three Pokemon guarding all step forward as though to dare her to try. Starts to back up instead and lets out a Growl at the tiny owl.] As if I have time for the likes of you! [Flees Back the way she came]
[The group remains tense until the rustle of brush finally dissipates and there comes a collective sigh. Virginia stood still shaking as she didn't know what to expect from the apparent guild now.]
Popplio:
That was awesome! How'd you do that?!
Rowlet:
[Soft sigh] Well, I've been practicing. It's no captain magic, but at least I'm not so useless now.
Litten:
Ah, ease up, buddy. That's still better than the rest of us right now. Main thing is we got the girl safe. [They all turn their attention to her] You okay, kid?
Virginia:
Th-thank you. [Smiles at them and gives a little bow] I never knew so many Pokemon could talk before! What are your names?
[They all exchange a nervous glance to each other before the bird speaks up.]
Rowlet:
[Curious as he looks her over more carefully] It's a lot more common around here these days. For someone not from here, you don't appear too surprised.
Virginia:
Is it that obvious?
Popplio:
[Shakes head] Nah. Melemele is a pretty small place, so between the three of us, I feel like we know just about everyone on the island.
Virginia:
[Guess she's going to stick out like a sore thumb no matter what she does around here, huh? Sheepishly.] I just moved in yesterday, but this is my first time out of the house. [Perks up as she looks back at the Rowlet] I have a talking Meowth back home. It was a shock when we met, but maybe you would know him?
Litten:
[Thoughtful] Just moved… [sits down and raises a paw] Well, let's Tackle these one question at a time. You can call me Kukui, [points to the Rowlet] that one is Ilima-
Ilima:
[raises wing] Greetings~
Litten:
[Motions to the Popplio] -And this is Hau.
Hau:
[Raises paw as though waving] Hiya! So what were you doing out here all alone then?
Virginia:
[Ah...yes...that. It probably did seem silly to mention she had a Pokemon but then have no way to defend herself back there.] I… well…
Man's Voice:
There you all are!
[The group turns to see a tall, thin man in a white lab coat. He gives them a wave as he comes up the road from the same direction Virginia had.]
Virginia:
Oh! It's the professor! [Waves back and starts to trot over] Good evening, Prof. Lillie. What are you doing out so late?
Lillie:
[Wry laugh] I wouldn't call it late just yet but… [He's getting ahead of himself] I should ask the same about you. How's it going, Verge? Didja find all the Charjabug already? I thought we wouldn't start that until tomorrow.
Kukui:
[Bit uneasy] So you two already know each other?
Lillie:
Of course, where are my manners? Gentlemen, this is Virginia Faba. I've been talking with her the past few months over the phone, as you all might know. She's just moved here and is enrolled as a student at the Battle Agency.
Virginia:
[Nods happily] And if these three know about that, then I assume you're "the boss" Hau mentioned?
Lillie:
Eh… yes and no. They don't actually belong to me, they've just been staying with me at the lab while we try to figure things out. Um... Actually, to answer your first question, I'm out here looking for my daughter. Have you seen her by chance?
Virginia:
…. …. … Is she a Yungoos?
Lillie:
….. …..No?
Hau:
Sorry, we almost got attacked by Zossie before you showed up.
Lillie:
Oh no... Was she okay? I mean, does it look like we're going to be able to get her back or... [The three Pokemon don't seem to want to answer in front of their guest, but the soft shaking of their heads tells him that they may have lost her... Looks between them all though and it doesn't look like anyone was hurt in the encounter so… looks to Virginia] You must be very strong then, or at least quick thinking. You've got to battle with me some time so I can give you an assessment.
Kukui:
Later, Molayne. Virginia didn't fight, and all Ilima did was scare the deranged thing off.
Ilima:
Which doesn't bode well for your girl if the weasel is still out there.
Hau:
Still no sign of Miss Lillie either, but didn't she leave with Guzma earlier? She should be fine with him.
Virginia:
They're right, I haven't seen anyone out here tonight until that happened. Of course, I don't live far from here, so- Wait! [Hastily goes to pull out her ticket.] I was on my way to the Ride Pokemon Show. My mom received a free ticket, maybe they went to see it too?
Lillie:
[Nods] It's likely she's made it to town by now either way. Come on, let's get a move on.
[As the others start to continue uphill, Virginia starts to twist her fingers nervously as she stays on the edge of the grass.]
Virginia:
Um, professor… I have a bit of a confession. [They all look back in confusion] If, um… if we're planning to split up to look for her, I don't have any way to defend myself if that thing comes back.
Kukui:
[Somewhat suspicious] I thought you'd just return home real quick to grab your Meowth. We'll just go on ahead.
Virginia:
I don't actually own Looker though. My mom said she had a Pokemon for me tomorrow, but swore the road to town was clear when she sent me out. If I return home, she won't let me leave again.
[The plea in the girl's voice seems to raise some concern and the group returns to her side of the grass.]
Lillie:
Then one of us needs to go with you.
Kukui:
[Looks between the other two] And not just for tonight either. [To Virginia] You said you're going the the Battle Agency, right?
Virginia:
Yes…? [Shifts a bit uncomfortably.]
Kukui:
Then eventually I need you to defeat Team Rocket using the Battle Agency. I'll try to regain administrative control while you distract them.
Virginia:
Me? But I'm a terrible Trainer! It's why mom mother won't let me have my own Pokemon!
Hau:
Seriously, prof- [ahem] we just met her!
Lillie:
"Eventually," you guys. [Crosses arms and looks down at the Litten] But that is a large request to drop so suddenly. Hate to tell you, old friend, but the Battle Agency won't even be open for a few weeks.
Kukui:
Then it'll give us time to get her ready. Ilima, you going with her? You seem eager to get involved after that last encounter.
Ilima:
….. [Looks at Hau] His family is the one normally involved in these affairs.
Hau:
I want to stay behind and look after Lillie and Cosmog.
Kukui:
We're gonna be moving fast too, you can't expect him to keep up like this when he has trouble catching up already. [To Hau] No offense.
Hau:
[Waves it off with his flipper] None taken. Besides, Ilima, you're the only one who can fight.
Virginia:
[Well while they're bickering, she'll just ask the professor] Cosmog…?
Lillie:
[Runs hand over his face. Hoo...boy. It might do well to keep Hau close if only so he doesn't get the girl in trouble with his big mouth.] Please… Don’t tell anyone about this… About Cosmog… It’s… It’s a secret, okay? We all want to help, but things have gotten far beyond our understanding.
Virginia:
Oh… um, okay. I won't tell anyone then.
Lillie:
[Nods. Good. Now to these three] Doesn't anyone want this thing?! [That got their attention as the three Pokemon retake their places and quietly look up at him] I think we should let her make the call if she [with emphasis] decides to go through with it. Virginia? Which of them do you want to stay with you?
Virginia:
I… uh… [Looks between all of them]
Kukui:
[Huffs at him] Mo, you're already thinking the same thing I am, so don't be acting like there's any choice in the matter.
Virginia:
Well, I do really like cats. [Turns to the cat] Could you do me a favor?
Kukui:
[Tenses up, slowly looks back at her] Me? Nah, nah, nah! Not me. Sorry, but something already came up. I need to be working behind the scenes, remember? Infiltrating the system?
Virginia:
Oh… okay... It's just you seem to know a lot about all this, so I thought you might be able to help me out. [Not Popplio, not Litten then, but looking at the somber little bird, she can't help but feel wrong.] You've been pretty quiet during all this. You're actually a Trainer, aren't you?
Everyone:
…… [confusion and uneasiness, they all stare at her unsure how to answer.]
Ilima:
… I was once, but that was a long time ago.
Hau:
We all were actually. [Slight laugh] Probably why no one wants to go. I'm not even sure how much help we'd be except advice. How'd you guess?
Virginia:
Just a feeling. Looker, my Meowth, he can't really fight either but we talk all the time. I've kinda suspected something was strange with you talkers.
Hau:
Huh? Oh! I wasn't lying about there being lots of Pokemon here who can. Just makes it harder to tell who is and isn't secretly human in this messed up place.
Lillie:
Yeah… Here, why don't I give you one of mine for now? At least as a real Pokemon we know he can protect you, but we'll be sure to stay close by.
Virginia:
[Brightens up as he hands her the ball and just HAS to see what she got] Awww! A Fennekin! [Picks it up and lifts it practically over her head as it squeals at her happily] Thank you~
Lillie:
That little guy is full of surprises. I received him from a friend in Kalos a while back, so there's no telling what he'll evolve into. They have a case going on that's more mild than Alola's, but... Ah… we're not really sure what our case is.
Virginia:
Well, if it's anything like my cousin went through, I wouldn't worry about it. The Voices will be sure to fix all of that~! Starting with finding your daughter. [Starts to walk off towards town with she gets caught by the professor's long arm clapping her on the shoulder] Hm?
Lillie:
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Not yet, Chu Pi. That just opened an entire can of Wurmple.
Virginia:
…. [Blinks at him. More curious than concerned.] Have you never heard of the Voices? Or are you wondering about my cousin? Because he lived in Orre, but if you know where he went, I'd love to know what happened to him.
Kukui:
[Motions between himself and Hau] Oh, our families are intimately aware of those things. Verge, have YOU started hearing voices? Sudden impulses? Feeling reckless? Lack of control over yourself?
Ilima:
[Amused] Don't most teenagers, at some point?
Kukui:
[Annoyed] More extreme.
Virginia:
[Ah… she shouldn't have said that. Now they all look very serious on the matter] My mind is always racing with lists of what I want to, or need to do; schoolwork, and recalling facts, little daydreams, music, and um… [she didn't want to say how frequently she had the voices of her parents or herself scolding her for one reason or another. They didn't need to know everything anyway.] And you know, stuff. It comes and goes. But I'm really feeling it right now~!
Kukui:
Comes and goes…? [Wait… whaaaa?? Shakes off the confusion] That just brings up even more questions!
Ilima:
What happened to us taking turns with the questions?
Lillie:
[Waves him off to quiet him] If it's possible to have it go away, I'd rather if we tried to find Anabel while the power is hot. Verge, I'm sorry you might miss your show, but would you mind helping us?
Virginia:
Oh! I want to help though. The show was just a means to leave the house. [Looks down at her new pet] Come on, Fennekin, let's see what's out there!
Lillie:
Verge, wait! I'm not sure you know where-!
Ilima:
[Aaand she's gone. Flies up a bit to see if he can still see her as she races into the grass down the road.] She changed her attitude rather quick, didn't she?
Hau:
Receiving a Starter does that to them, I think.
Kukui:
Yeeeaaah… [Flits tail in thought. Deep breath] But something is weird about this. All the elements are there, but we still can't tell if she's a Chosen or just unfortunate. Come on, we better make sure she gets-
Ilima:
There goes Fennekin. [Puzzled, but somewhat expectant tone] …And she disappeared as well.
Other three:
… … …
Lillie:
[The professor lifts his glasses slightly as he closes his eyes and pinches the bridge of his nose] Kukui, I've dealt with a lot of children over the years, but I'm not sure I'm ready for this.
Kukui:
Hau and I traveled with the last Chosen. I'm not saying things will go exactly the same as last time, but at least we've an idea of what to expect. If he stays with you, I'll go with her just to keep an eye on things.
Ilima:
What about me?
Kukui:
We'll still need your help, I'm sure, but for now I'm going back to Verge's house so I can follow her. Why don't you three see if we can contact the Kahuna somehow and meet us at the gates?
Lillie:
But what about Anabel?
Hau:
She's still got Guzma with her, I think she'll be safe for a while. I hate to say it, but finding Tutu might be the best thing we can do. He knows way more about this than all of us combined.
Lillie:
Right… We'll see you at the gate then.
=+=
[The little Litten found the door closed when he arrived, but scurried around the corner where he could leap up to the small balcony and peer inside. Virginia was talking to her mother, looking very sour about it, and he felt a twinge of dread. The girl had warned them that if she went back to the house she might not be able to leave again that night. If only he could get in and explain the situation… For now all he could do was press his ear to the back door and try to listen.]
Mom:
Ha! Scared of losing, I bet! You got into one encounter and already you're running home to me. And what about those Pokemon that came to defend you? You didn't even think to use one them to fight? Pokemon like someone able to command them, it's how you earn their respect. It's how you get any respect in this world, you demand it! [Lets out a sigh and softens a bit as she runs both her hands through her daughter's wavy dark curls.] What are we ever going to do with you?
Virginia:
I would have taken one, but they already belong to Professor Lillie. [Holds up the Poke Ball she got.] I got to finally meet him in person, and he even gave me a Starter! See?
Mom:
Huh. [Takes it and looks it over. It has a little sticker on it that looks like a flame. Gives it back.] Just "gave" it to you? Or was there some stipulation?
Virginia:
I… [She knows she couldn't teller her about the "favor" at the Battle Agency, or how she had been hearing voices all day- maybe even THE Voices if the professor and his team were right. Bites her lip a bit in thinking she could still tell her mother the truth but was it enough?] Well, he did ask me if I could help him find his daughter. She apparently went out with a friend earlier and didn't come home.
Mom:
[Smiles smugly] And there's your catch. But that sounds like a simple enough exchange. [She turns her back as she takes a few steps, a finger to her lips in thought.] Though this is the same gentleman you've been in contact with the past few months. Purely business, I know, but it wouldn't be very becoming for a young girl to be be making friends with an old man.
Virginia:
[Ahem] He's not that old, actually… Maybe around your age?
Mom:
[Turns back to her with a gleam in her eye] Then perhaps it's time I had a word with him. I wonder if the girl might be around your age instead of some young assistant of his. Even if she were younger than you, a sort of motherly or sisterly approach to her would paint you in a good light with the community. And our family needs good publicity right now. ...I could work with this.
Virginia:
[Curious buuut hesitates] …. Sooo... does that mean I can I go?
Mom:
Yes, go! You'll need to catch up now. I'll need to make a few phone calls while you take care of that. And you better tell me all about it when you get back.
Virginia:
[Brightens] I'll make sure to give you a full report! [And with that, she's out the door, takes a deep sigh of relief, and heads back for the road only to come around the corner and- Oh! A Litten is climbing over the railing to the deck.] Hello... Is that you, Kukui?
Kukui:
[Bit of a shake and perches himself on the rail as he can be somewhat at her level to speak.] You got it! So what was that all about?
Virginia:
Just my mom being… Mom. I told you she'd be mad. BUT! She said I can go, and that's the important thing~! I'm sorry you had to come looking for me. I'm not even sure what happened. I kind of blacked out. Where are the others anyway?
Kukui:
They got started on the search. I just thought I'd come back to tell you that we're meeting everyone else at the gate to Iki Town. [She gives a nod and starts back up the road to town like she had before. He leaps down from his perch and gives a trot to keep up beside her. Sorry, Verge, he's not dropping the subject.] So what was that but about using Mo to boost your reputation?
Virginia:
[He would have to catch that part, wouldn't he?] Ah, well I don't know what she's planning yet, but I won't fret about it. She said she'll talk to him, so it's not like there's anything you all won't know about when it happens. [Soft hum as she smiles a bit to herself] You really worry about him, don't you?
Kukui:
Yeah… you could say that. Back when I was human, you could say we've grown up together. We came from different islands but met up when it came time for us to do our Trials. He was a pretty sickly kid, and a real homebody, so I tried to make sure to stay close and help him out. He's gotten a lot better, but I guess I still worry. Especially since everything started to go screwy around here, I'm scared he's in over his head.
Virginia:
[Huh, that's a long time.] I wish I had friends like that. So who did you used to be? Back when you were a Trainer.
Kukui:
Me? Still Kukui, [puffs up a bit of playful pride] just a lot bigger and more impressive looking. I was the Pokemon professor for Alola before he took over. In fact, Molayne's been staying at my lab while we try to figure this world out.
Virginia:
[Stops short and he slows down to look back at her] You mean he's not really a professor?
Kukui:
[Stops too now] Huh? No, no, no! He still is. Believe me, if anyone was going to take my place, I'm glad it's him. [Grin] First Captain, then a professor at the Observatory, a member of the Elite Four; he really did the best of the three of us. [Y'know, saying all that out loud kind of makes their earlier conversation seem silly in hindsight.] You're in good hands. Maybe he wasn't the one I should have been worried about.
Virginia:
[There's the gate, but there's no one here yet. Curious as she's not sure if he means now or way back when.] You mean back during your trials? Who was the third one?
[Before he can answer, the little cat's ears perk and he looks swords the stairs. Footsteps, but also...music? Virginia seemed amused too as she watched a moment to see what was coming down when a boy in a back t-shirt and over sized slacks came jogging down the steps and the lyrics he was singing to himself became clearer.]
Kukui:
Ha! There he is now. [Hollers] Guzma!
Guzma:
We don't have an agent or anyone to help us, but we're going to be big someday soon! 𝆕 [Huh? Someone call him? There's a girl over there, but he swore it was a man's voice. Comes over.]
Virginia:
Him? But he's just a kid like me.
Guzma:
[Somehow appears even more confused than she is] Did I miss something?
Kukui:
Over here. [They both look down to see the Litten take a seat between them.] We told ya there was a new girl coming, yeah?
Guzma:
[Crosses his arms across his chest, a bit coldly] Yeah? [Looks at her, but he seems more smug than bitter to finally meet.] Fresh as Oran Berries, shipped all the way here from Hoenn. But that's got nothin' to do with me.
Kukui:
[Annoyed] Guzma…
Virginia:
[Holds out hand for him to take] It's a pleasure to meet you nonetheless. My name is Virginia Faba. My father spoke highly of you, even if mostly in regards to your brute strength. [The boy doesn't take her hand and instead stares at her all the more perplexed as her mind started to race. Maybe her father had actually said the guy was a total brute, now that she thought about it, but at least her words sounded better.]
Guzma:
[Hmmph. Turns to the Litten] No really, where'd ya pick up this chick? Flattery don't do much, but...thanks? [Still, puffs up with a bit of pride] I don't know how he'd know me, but I did score pretty well in a Double Battle at a Friendly Competition the other day. Guess he's a fan of the battle scene, huh?
Kukui:
[Just shakes his head] Just remember, you can only know your real strength when show care and understanding of your Pokemon.
Guzma:
Oh yeah? And who went and made you my new guardian, fluffykins? It's bad enough I live in a Hen House, and those chicks are full of unwanted advice. [To Virginia with a mix of annoyance and wry amusement as he explains.] Whenever I hang out with the ladies from the office, they always humble-brag about their families while pretending to be complaining. I’d much rather hang out here by myself and see if I can set a new record for the most Malasadas eaten in a single sitting! [Virginia stars to giggle even as she tries to hide it behind her hand.] See? She gets it. [Crosses his arms across his chest and glares down at the cat] You don't think I'm taking care of myself? Here, I'll even prove it to you. Ya wanna have a battle?
Virginia:
He can't fight. [Slight bounce] But I'd love to! It'd be my very first Trainer battle!
Guzma:
Ha! I knew you were fresh! Be careful, girly, 'cause you're about to get crushed!
Virginia:
[Slight squeak] I was thinking more like short tussle?
Guzma:
[Cheeky grin] What? You got a problem short stuff? I can stand guard even when I’m squatting! [Does so]
Kukui:
[Sigh] If we're gonna do this, don't be Mudbray about it. I'm playing referee. One-on-one, loser pays standard.
Virginia:
Um… okay. I'm not sure what that means...
Guzma:
Fine by me, let's do this!
[They each take ten steps apart from each other to lay a space for them to battle. Take a moment to get into position and finally Kukui calls for a clean start. As the battle gets underway, Virginia sends out Fennekin while Guzma shows off a Skarmory! That's a Pokemon she recognizes! Virginia gets a wide grin.]
Virginia:
Okay! I know what to do here~! Fennekin, use Inferno!
Guzma:
[Not even concerned] King's Shield!
Virginia:
[The flames look flashy at least but… nothing happened?] Wait, what?!
Guzma:
Tch, you didn't think I'd send out a Pokemon with an obvious type disadvantage without having a way to defend itself, did ya?
Virginia:
Yes, well… [slight huff as she clenched her first] I can guard too! Fire Shield!
Guzma:
[Amused] Guard Swap.
Fennekin:
[Okay, now it's his turn to huff at this] What are you guys even doing? This isn't fighting!
Skarmory:
Maybe I just plan to see what you're capable of right now.
Kukui:
[Runs a paw over his face as he's trying to keep from commenting. Stop messing with the girl, jerk.]
Guzma:
[Saw that.] What? Ya told me to play nice.
Virginia:
I don't need you to go easy on me. Try Inferno again!
[This time it does hit! ...And the bird is still standing. That's not good. Skarmory gives a sharp little screech though as the Burn sets in though.]
Guzma:
[Heavy sarcasm] Oh no, my first defeat! [Goes to recall it] I will admit, that's some nice firepower ya got going for such a small fry. Where'd ya get that little fuzzball anyway? I don't even know what that Pokemon is called.
Virginia:
[She knows he basically gave that to her, but she'll take the compliment at least as she lifts the little fox to snuggle him and let the boy run his hand between the Fire-type's ears.] It's a Fennekin, I haven't named him yet. Isn't he just adorable? I just got him today from Professor Lillie. He should be meeting us any minute… OH! I think I see him now!
Kukui:
[Slightly suspicious] Yeah… how convenient…
Guzma:
Ah… maybe I should go.
Kukui:
[Annoyed] What did you do?
Guzma:
Nothin'! But did you know… Everybody at Game Freak loves sweets? We got a full case at the shop the other day, and Gracie let me take some home. [Tries to look at Virginia to drop the hint and nods his head to the gate.] I thought after a battle ya might want some? So I should go get some?
Kukui:
[Smooth, real smooth there] Just be honest. Why are you-?
Lillie:
[Takes a moment to catch his breath] Guzma, where have YOU been?!
[All three look over to see the professor huffing as he makes his way toward them with the other two Starters close behind.]
Lillie:
Please tell me that if Anabel isn't with you, you know where she is.
Virginia:
You look pale, sir, are you alright?
Lillie:
For the moment, but you all should know, there's a powerful presence coming from the sky!
Kukui:
What?! Is it another Ultra Wormhole or a voice?
Hau:
A Wormhole! I wonder if that means something came in or went out.
Ilima:
It is pretty amazing. [Looks to Guzma] Why would Aether want to set up a branch here in Alola anyway?
Guzma:
How should I know?! Not like I got anythin' to do with them. Heck, I haven't even been off Melemele Island yet.
Lillie:
It is still something worth investigating.
Virginia:
[Had been stroking the fox in her arms but shifts him to one side as she tries to raise her hand] Um… excuse me… I think I'm lost again.
Lillie:
Ehehe… sorry, Verge. [Clears throat] Aether Paradise is a large conservation group that tries to find and protect wildlife. However, and this was years ago, mind you, they somehow got started on interdimensional studies. The Ultra Wormholes are natural to Alola, and something I've studied for years, but they took it even further by trying to make contact with the creatures that live on the other side.
Virginia:
[Perks up] I've heard about that! That's what brought the Ultra Beasts over, right?
Hau:
Well, that's what ended up happening, but I don't think that was planned…
Lillie:
No, they were trying to find their way into other worlds. Experiments trying to find a world far different from Alola. That's what I heard anyway.
Kukui:
That's actually how my parents ended up meeting was after my dad ended up in some kind of alternate Alola. But my wife theorized that there's hundreds of smaller worlds that line the "Dreamscape" between this Alola and the cyber one. Except a few years ago… [glances at Guzma] at least it only feels like a few years ago, something went wrong. This monster, not just an Ultra Beast, but a real monster, got loose.
Hau:
I wasn't there when it actually broke out, but I know it's because the Aether President and, um… the leader of Team Skull went into one of those Wormholes. We think whatever is behind all this followed them back here. Things were still okay for a while, but the gateways have gotten out of control!
Lillie:
[Nods] Which, unfortunately, has caused a lot of trouble in keeping track of anything. Days and nights don't function properly anymore, people seem to be dropping in anachronistically, [flustered noise as he points to their companions] people and Pokemon arriving in the wrong forms, it's a mess. But if it turns out that we're not even in our own world anymore, but in the Created World, then a lot of things would make sense. At least, that's my hypothesis at the moment. Of course, I wouldn't know, but it does feel too realistic to be Cyberspace, doesn't it? [Turns as he catches something out of the corner of his eye] And Guzma, where are you going!
Guzma:
[Had been slowly trying to sneak away from the group, and freezes a moment mid-step] To get a drink?
Lillie:
[Exasperated] Alright, but you're still avoiding my question. Where is Miss Lillie? Wasn't she with you?
Guzma:
[Opens mouth to say something… shuts it. Grins as he does little finger guns] Sophocles! [Starts to run off]
Ilima:
… … [holds a wing up like a hand to talk behind to Virginia] If it makes you feel any better, I wasn't around for any of this that they're referring to so I'm just as lost as you are. [Clears throat, starts to fly to where he can hover for a moment] Don't worry, I think I'll try to stay with him to make sure he stays on task.
Kukui:
But- [Aaand he's already flying that way]
Lillie:
I think that would be a great idea, actually. No offense, old friend, but you seem to be pushing quite a few buttons with him lately. [Smiles warmly] Besides, I think Ilima might be able keep up with him better.
Kukui:
[Looks up at Virginia] … Guess I'll keep an eye on her for a little longer.
Hau:
At least that way we all can team up on this. One person who knows what happened, one who doesn't. But sometimes it helps to see things better when you can get an outside observation.
Kukui:
Yeah, that too. [Sighs] But in this case I think it's less that Guzma doesn't know and is instead covering for Anabel. I've a terrible feeling I know where she went. Let's try this search thing again. [Motions for all of them to follow as they enter town]
~~~~~~~~~
A/N: Oh snap! It actually fit! 8O The opening to SM/USUM is veeery slow going, so I apologize for just how long this is. I think even with TPP speeding through, we still didn't through all these introductions in the first hour. But hey! We've almost got the gang all here! You know who's coming next. <3 Which on that note, I'd like to point out that I did debate on whether to use the professor's first name or last name for his name tag, and decided to go with Lillie even if that might be a bit confusing for those of us who associate that name with, well... Lillie. But the Pokemon professors always go by their last name except when a very close friend might refer to them, so everyone would be calling him "Lillie" anyway except for Kukui and maybe Guzma when he's feeling haughty. So it is what it is I guess.
Also, I gotta say, I'm sure a lot of guys here are looking pretty out of character, but it's still both funny and interesting to put together a personality based on their dialogue, since Pokemon never uses voice acting (except the Pokemon of course and a few exceedingly rare occassions like for music) the influx and tone is entirely up to interpretation. That said, I am finding Guzma being a total brat when he was a kid to be hilarious, while on the flipside Kukui seems to have gotten a lot more serious.
Tumblr media
summary: to Jeon Jungkook, Halloween is special for one reason and one reason only. Too bad he can’t seem to figure out why.
pairing: jungkook x fem!reader
genre: halloween au, friends to lovers au, college au | fluff
warnings: jungkook is in love, jealousy, costume references to: shingeki no kyojin, spirited away, haikyuu, howl’s moving castle, & your name
word count: 6k
.
They always say that in life, the best things come in pairs. Yin and yang, salt and pepper, chicken nuggets and french fries, peanut butter and jelly, Mickey and Minnie mouse…
You and Jungkook.
Well, at least, according to him anyways. It’s natural to feel that way about anyone, especially when that aforementioned individual comes bulldozing into his life with a wide array of similar personality traits, similar jokes, similar interests and sense of humor. To Jungkook, meeting you is like walking into a house he’s been into before, in which all the keys to unlock all the doors have been previously engraved into his mind. Given that the connection between the two of you has been unmistakeable from the start, it only makes sense for everyone to give you that best friend, comes-as-a-pair type of label.
As best friends, you did everything together. Like go on that beach camping trip together with your brother’s boy scout troop, because you needed a plus one to share the tent with. Or watching old Pokemon movies together at the Jeon household, because you were feeling nostalgic. Or inviting Jungkook to that family barbecue during the summer, because your mom was making hot dogs and insisted that you have a friend over. Or—!
“Hey.” Jungkook, age fifteen, breaks the silence with his interjection, angling his chin just enough in your direction to start the conversation and yet still keeping his eyes on the laptop opened in front of him. “The school is hosting a costume contest. For pairs.”
You raise an eyebrow, shrug a shoulder, the news not enough to drag you away from your Algebra 2 homework. “We should do it,” You propose mindlessly, flipping the page in your worksheet.
And Jungkook, similar style, similar sense of humor, similar competitive nature, smirks. “To win, right?”
You finally turn to look at him, the corner of your own lips and daring glint in your eyes. “Obviously.”
And that singular word adds another aspect to the traditional dynamic that is you and Jungkook. On top of weekly coffee meet-ups, a free ride to school, a partner to rely on in both the school and out-of-school environment, and someone to text in regards to any and all things anime or film based—dressing up for Halloween together takes the top of the list.
At fifteen, you dawn the green cloaks in representation to the Recon Corps from Shingeki No Kyojin.
At sixteen, you get red robes and Jungkook gets a mixture of blue for Chihiro and Haku respectfully from Spirited Away.
At seventeen, you spike the hair and slip on the volleyball jerseys for Haikyuu!! and actually win first place for that.
At eighteen, you cut your hair and dye it gray while Jungkook slides on a multicolored, oversized jacket and jade pendant to mirror Howl’s Moving Castle.
It becomes such a traditional thing that everyone in your friend group now knows to connect you and Jungkook to the holiday. And for Jungkook, you are just as constant in his life as Halloween is to the calendar.
However, at nineteen, three months before Halloween, you run up to his front door and greet him with the unforgettable statement that threatens to shatter the norm and the peaceful reassurance he had built the last five years of holidays on.
“I meet someone.”
.
Jungkook is nineteen years old and he is happy for you. He sees the excited curl in your lips, the glimmer in your eyes, a few different features that he has never seen on you before although he cannot help but think about how odd it is to see a display of previously unforeseen expressions over something as simple as a meeting and a conversation and a hope.
You talk briefly about the mysterious boy. Park Jimin, a year above your own, a partner of yours at the volunteer organization you’ve donated your time to at the university during the summer. This Park Jimin is shy, charming, bold, with a smile of gold and eyes of half crescent moons. By the time you’re done talking about him, Jeon Jungkook is not sure he’s the one with the crush or you are.
Instead, he clears his throat. “He does sound promising,” He manages, but the words feel… bitter on the tip of his tongue. He thinks this is probably because you and Jungkook have never encountered this kind of situation before -- in which one of you garnered a relatively public crush on someone outside of the pairing. There isn’t exactly a handbook for dummies about what to say. But Jungkook does have other friends, and those other friends have had crushes before. So he proceeds through that perspective.
“I hope so,” You return, turning your hand over and playing with the coral of your nail polish. “Our first coffee date went well and he asked to see me again.” You press your lips together to hide the depth of your smile. “I don’t really know how the whole courting stuff is supposed to go… I don’t even know if he’s expecting the same thing I am…”
Jungkook shrugs, averting his gaze from your excited bubbliness. He’s not use to someone else making you look like this. “Well,” He starts. “He’d be stupid to not want the same thing you want. You’re pretty okay most of the time.”
You snort. “Thanks.”
Now, Jungkook likes to think he knows what he’s doing most of the time -- but the sensation of having you glued to your cell phone every time it buzzes with a notification, the headache at having to hear about Park Jimin and only Park Jimin for about ninety percent of your shared conversations -- is strange and unfamiliar. It’s not like Jungkook was always the only thing ever going on in your life, but it feels weird to balance the time once spent watching anime or going to the beach with talk of someone new.
.
Jungkook is nineteen years old and he’s currently banging his head against the coffee table, the noise resonating throughout the empty shop as employee and good friend Kim Taehyung stands behind the counter while wiping down the machines. It’s thirty minutes to closing, so the roles should probably be reversed in the sense that Kim Taehyung should probably be expressing some exasperation at the fact that he cannot close the way he was trained to do with a customer still lingering about within the hazy depths of the shop, but he looks rather pitiful upon the boy in the corner booth.
“She really canceled on you again, didn’t she?”
“Only for the fourth fucking time this month,” Jungkook grits, tossing his phone carelessly upon the table as he leans forward and runs a hand through his already messy hair. “I can’t believe she would pull this shit on me again.”
Yes. Again. Fourth fucking time this month. Four times have you sent Jungkook a text with a whole set of varying words depending on the day and time, but they all fall within the same sort of category -- previously normalized study sessions or Friday night hangouts taken down in favor of going to the beach with Park Jimin or watching a movie with Park Jimin or lying across a hill with Park Jimin and honest to god, if Jeon Jungkook has to hear that name one more time, he thinks he might throw a fit.
“Wait,” Taehyung interjects, moving around the counter to start wiping down the tables. “You guys never made these plans official right? They’re sort of unspoken traditions between the two of you, aren’t they?”
“Well, yeah,” Jungkook affirms with the slight nod of his head. “But these are things we have been doing since the start of our freshman year.” He sighs, taking in a deep breath. “I don’t know. I know that she’s dating and she’s in this relationship that is clearly very important to her and I want to be happy for her.” He buries his face into his hands. “I don’t know why I’m feeling this way, to be entirely honest with you. Like I want to be excited that she’s dating but every time she mentions him I get this weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. I never get like this when my other friends cancel plans, but when she does it makes me feel like I want to throw a fit. Or trip stupid Park Jimin. Or maybe both.”
Jungkook doesn’t notice the action of Taehyung the longer the ranting of the former goes on, the way Taehyung suddenly stops wiping down the tables in order to give the kind of look that really does imply exasperation and a very are-you-serious sort of complex.
It isn’t until Jungkook stops talking that Taehyung’s glare turns into a physical manifestation of words. “You’re a fucking idiot.”
Jungkook flickers his gaze up, his own eyebrows morphed into one of confusion. “Huh?”
Taehyung’s eyes widen. “I said, you’re a fucking—!”
“I know what you said!” Jungkook snaps, leaning back in his chair. “When I said huh, that was meant as an opportunity for you to explain why you said that instead of literally repeating the same thing over and over again—!”
“If you don’t know why I’m calling you an idiot,” Taehyung explains, placing his hands on his hips. “Then maybe I shouldn’t tell you anything at all.”
“What are you trying to say?” Jungkook inquires, eyes following his friend as Taehyung moves onto the next table. “Are you trying to imply that my feelings are different when I’m around her?”
Taehyung shrugs. “Your words, not mine.”
Jungkook scoffs. “That’s ridiculous. I mean, obviously they’re different in the sense that she’s one of my best friends and she’s been in my life for so long—this whole Park Jimin situation is just a change I’m gonna have to deal with. Nothing more, nothing less.”
Taehyung nods, albeit a little slowly as if he’s a little disappointed with Jungkook’s findings. “Sure, Jungkook. It’s just a life adjustment. Like you said, nothing more, nothing less.”
Jungkook nods, although the frantic beating of his heart at the thought of this, the thought of you and Park Jimin, being a permanent life adjustment, suddenly makes everything seem like a pill that’s entirely too difficult to swallow.
.
Jungkook is nineteen years old when he realizes that it’s definitely not nothing more, nothing less. It is so far beyond the original computation of nothing more, nothing less, because the feelings get worse.
“Do you want to watch a movie tonight? I have the whole apartment to myself and could use the company.”
“Oh sorry Jungkook! Jimin and I are watching that new Disney movie tonight!”
And worse.
“What about getting some brisket?”
“Jimin and I are about to grab lunch, I’ll have to call you back.”
And even more worse.
He blinks, and you are standing at the front door of his apartment, entirely present but looking too far away for him to reach towards. That feeling in his heart is back, louder and much too bothersome and he wishes for nothing more in the current moment than to reach into his throat and grab the pounding thing as if to relieve himself from the sudden anxiety he feels. You’re here, and you haven’t been here in weeks and he doesn’t even know if he has the room to be happy.
“H-Hey,” He says, staring at you for one, two, three more seconds before opening the door wider and allowing you to entire. Taehyung is in the background, typing something on his laptop, but his eyes flint towards the pair of you and he raises an eyebrow. “What are you doing here?”
You whirl around, and he cannot stop himself from taking you in. Weeks have felt like painful years, and he hasn’t even realized how much he missed you until your smile and it’s like the sun is shining out of your ass. “I needed to talk to you about something,” You say, turning back around and heading towards the couch. You slide the bag off your shoulder and plop yourself down on the couch.
Jungkook takes a hesitant step forward. “What’s going on?”
“It’s about Halloween this year,” You say, readjusting the jacket on your shoulders. “I know that you and I enter the contests every year but… ah, I think Jimin and I are going to be doing something this year. We have some ideas about what to dress up as, but I wasn’t sure if I should go through with him since Halloween is something I always do with you.”
If someone had descended from the ceiling of the apartment this morning and told Jungkook that you, on top of ditching every tradition the pair of you have started, would also abandon him on your biggest tradition yet—he would have laughed. He would have laughed and insisted that no, you would never do that. Sure, Park Jimin is your first relationship and is henceforth special for you, but shouldn’t be that special that you felt inclined to abandon Jungkook in nearly every aspect of life.
He feels betrayed, he feels hurt, but he feels angry and disappointed and possessive and a whole onslaught of differing emotions that threaten to just swallow him whole that his body simply resorts to doing absolutely nothing.
“J-Jungkook?” You attempt, leaning over slightly and it takes a whole lot of willpower not to flinch away from you. He feels sick. He feels like he might throw up.
He had never really put too much thought of what a Halloween without you would feel like. He had just assumed that Halloween would always mean you, would always mean getting to further connect with you on something as silly and amusing yet fun and exciting as dressing up in costumes. But he also should have seen an end, because you’re friends. That is the fact. That is the nothing more, nothing less aspect. Friends shouldn’t participate in couple contests, couples should participate in couple contests. And you aren’t dating Jungkook—you never were. Why does that fact bring such a sickening bile to his stomach?
“I’m here,” He speaks after a moment. He, however, does not look at you and resorts to biting his thumb. “Y-You should dress up with Jimin,” He says quietly. “He’s the one you’re dating, it only seems more appropriate.”
You look at him, study him a little deeper. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah…” He manages, but his voice is a little shaky, a little unstable, a little uncertain. “Besides.” He laughs, but it sounds hollow and too far away from being genuine that he just coughs. “I didn’t really have any ideas for this year. You’ll probably have more fun with him.”
You stare at him for one, two, three more seconds. You press your lips together, curling it into a smile as you reach forward and gently take Jungkook’s hand in your own. The touch is so familiar and yet so foreign—if the spike in his heart at the physical contact is anything to go. “Thank you Jungkook. I really owe you one for being so understanding.”
Despite the inner turmoil of hurt and betrayal that has officially settled in his heart, he cannot help but deliver you with a small smile. “Yeah, anytime.”
Your smile grows just enough. You pat his hand. “I promise, we’ll do something this weekend.”
His eyes follow you as you stand up. “Yah, I’m really holding you to that.”
“I promise!” You exclaim, shouldering your bag as you make your way to the door, the smile in your voice making Jungkook’s own lips quirk just a little higher. How could you make him feel these things, yet still leave him wanting nothing more than to keep you by his side no matter what kind of lies he had to tell to save himself from a fight or confrontation of those feelings? What did it all mean? “Sorry, I promised Jimin I’d meet him at the coffee shop. I’ll see you around.”
He stands up as well, placing his hands into his pocket. “Yeah.” He locks the door as you shut it. With you gone, it leaves him in a momentary state of nothingness as he simply stands there, trying to figure out what just happened and how he could have let this happen. And why he was a few degrees south of being okay.
“You know,” A voice sounds from behind him and Jungkook suddenly remembers that Taehyung is here and has been here even before you walked into the apartment. “I think there’s a word for guys like you.”
Jungkook turns on the heels of his feet, glaring at Taehyung again. “Oh, so you’re finally gonna tell me what’s going on in that mind of yours about my condition?”
Taehyung closes his laptop and leans back in his kitchen seat, looking over at the younger boy. “I can’t believe you would let her walk over you like that, yet you still trail after her just because she smiles and promises you a weekend of coffee.”
“I… I didn’t do that,” Jungkook protests weakly, but it’s pointless because Taehyung saw everything.
Taehyung scoffs. “Okay then.”
“I think that I’m a little… upset,” Jungkook starts, crossing his arms across his chest. “But it’s nothing serious…” He trails off, but the more he thinks about his behavior, the more he starts to recognize the slight flaws in what gestures he was displaying to you. It’s the emotions of a perfectly sane, perfectly capable best friend to be a little insulted over being replaced. It’s perfectly normal to think that you and him would always be together, and not at all a behavior that could be classified as being—!
“Whipped,” Taehyung finally fills in. “You’re not just a little upset—it’s something else entirely. It’s this little emotion you might be familiar with.”
Jungkook gapes slightly at the label. “Whipped?” He echoes, and the denial is immediately evident in the form of his disbelieving take on laughter. “Oh no, I’m not whipped. What do you mean I should be familiar with that word? Since when?”
Taehyung rolls his eyes. “Since four years ago.”
“Four years?” Jungkook returns, then his frown deepens. “Why so specific on the timing?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” Taehyung starts sarcastically, throwing his hands up as he pushes himself away from the table. “Maybe because that’s how long you’ve been in love with her? And the fact that she’s throwing aside the friendship she has with you for a relationship is completely throwing you off your grid that has her fucking face in the center of it!”
Jungkook pales at the accusation. “I’m not… in love with her…” He protests.
Taehyung raises an eyebrow. “You sure about that?”
“I… really…” He starts, pressing his lips together. “I’m not in love with her. She’s just… she’s just my best friend.”
“Your best friend who you want to be with all the time,” Taehyung fills in, leaning against the counter.
“It’s not like that,” Jungkook retorts, gnawing at his lower lip. “I don’t need to be with her all the time,” He continues. “I just… sure, I mean, I like getting those good morning and good evening and in between texts from her, I like how thoughtful and careful she is but how everything she does is done with a touch of consideration and kindness, I like her smile and her playful banters and disposition, I like how her eyes crinkle in the corners when she’s laughing, or when her nose gathers up when I tell a stupid joke or when she’s trying to hold in her laughter. I like how she is and how I am when I’m with her but that doesn’t mean that…” He trails off.
Taehyung raises an eyebrow. “Doesn’t mean that…?” He supplies unhelpfully.
“I…” Jungkook starts, trailing off, giving Taehyung a long and hard stare from across the distance. “Is that what love is?”
Taehyung levels his stare. “It’s something that each individual feels for themselves, but yeah, I would consider that love.”
Jungkook is quiet for a moment, staring from Taehyung to the ground below him, because oh my god, he’s in love with you. The realization is scary, of course, but something about the thought also feels real and right. But now that everything is out in the open and he acknowledges his feelings, there is a problem because he does not know what to do with this information. You are dating, you have a boyfriend, and you are happy with some other guy that is not him.
“Well, fuck,” He says, and that feels as if it just about covers the wide range of his current emotional spectrum.
.
Jungkook is nineteen years old and he is a major prick of jealousy and unresolved emotions all bottled up into a singular 5’10 human being, but for someone who has never had to deal with this before and for someone who is normally terrible at keeping things bottled up—this is a terrible predicament. And Jungkook makes it even more terrible by allowing himself to knock on the front door of your apartment, and let himself into your living room when you open the door.
“And Jimin was so sweet, he came by the restaurant and dropped off some boba for me,” You exclaim, the bowl of popcorn in your arms as you plop yourself down on the couch. You grab one and pop it into your mouth. “There’s so much give and take when it comes to a relationship, I didn’t even realize it. I thought that I would have so much trouble trying to figure that shit out, but Jimin really likes the things I do even when I worry that I’m not doing a good job. He really appreciates it when I come by the dance studio, even though I worry that that’s not enough for him. It’s so weird and—Jungkook, are you okay?”
Jungkook doesn’t he realize he had been gripping the shared blanket nestled between the two of you until he looks down and sees his knuckles practically turning white. It hadn’t been intentional.
“U-Uh, yeah, I’m okay,” He stammers, letting go of the blanket and wondering if it would be a smart move to just duck for the front door and never face you again. As madly in love with you as he realizes he is, this might be the best thing for his sanity and his heart.
“Are you sure?” You inquire back, tilting your head. “You’ve honestly been weird ever since I started spending more time with Jimin.”
“I mean,” Jungkook starts. “You had been neglecting our friendship—but, I guess I understand the whole concept of having a crush and being in that stage where you only want to spend time with that person… you’re here now and you invited me over, so that has to mean things are normalizing between the two of you and that you’re getting comfortable…” He realizes that he might be ranting, so he clasps his mouth shut.
You look down. “Yeah, I’m sorry about bailing on you so often. I guess now that my head isn’t completely dominated by that whole honeymoon stage with Jimin, I’m realizing that I was sort of a dick to you. That’s one of the reasons I invited you here, actually. To apologize for being a jerk. You’re my best friend, and I totally let you down these past few months…”
You trail off, the words ‘best friend’ echoing over and over again in Jungkook’s mind like a song that never ends. A few weeks ago, he might have been okay with simply just being a best friend but now, that’s not good enough for him. He wants to be the one you turn other people down for, he wants to be the only one your pretty little mind thinks about no matter what time it is or no matter what is going on. Suddenly, ‘best friend’ isn’t good enough.
“Actually,” Jungkook interrupts, sitting up a little straighter, resting his arms on his knees and lacing his fingers together. “I came here to tell you something too.”
You join him. “What is it?”
He thinks about this, but he shakes his head. “Wait, no, I can’t say anything to you. It’s stupid, and you’ll probably laugh at me…”
You raise an eyebrow as he stands up. “Jungkook, what are you saying? Of course I would never laugh at you. Nothing you have to say is stupid, okay? I’m your friend, I’ll probably understand whatever it is you have to say…”
“See, that’s the thing,” Jungkook cuts in, shrugging on his jacket and running a hand through his hair. “I don’t want to just your friend anymore.”
“Jungkook…”
But he’s already on a roll, the words he previously rehearsed becoming jumbled messes inside his head. “Look, I don’t know how to say it so I’m just gonna it right now.” He takes in a breath, failing to notice the almost comical wide-eyed stare you’re feeding him with. “I’m in love with you, okay? And I’ve been in love with you for the past four years but I’m a dumbass and didn’t even realize I was in love with you until recently. And I know that’s not fair for you to have this information but if I have to hear one more story about Park Jimin, then I think I might lose my entire mind. And it’s not because I don’t want you to be happy, I just don’t want you to be happy with him—I want you to be happy with me. And I know I could make you happy. I thought we had fun together, especially during those Halloween costume contests, since those were honestly my favorite thing to do with you during the year and then you had to go and take that away from me.” He laughs humorlessly, running a hand through his hair. “And the worst part? The worst part is that I really did have a costume idea I wanted to share with you. I wanted to dress up as those stupid Your Name characters with you! I didn’t realize how important that film is to me until I rewatched the goddamn movie and realized that the characters heard a bell to signify that they were soulmates, and it made me realize with an even more fiery passion that I wanted to dress up as the characters with you so I could pretend I hear bells with you when I’m sure that I did, and that I always have. And you’re not even in my life that often anymore, and it sucks, and you were so happy with Jimin and so happy at the thought of him that of course I could never say anything to jeopardize my friendship with you. Because I want to be friends with you. But I also want to be more. Because I’m in love with you.” He forces his mouth shut, pressing his lips, realizing that maybe he has said too much. “I should go.”
He’s barely slamming the front door of your apartment shut when he hears, “N-No, Jungkook wait!” from the other side. But it’s too late. The damage is done. Well fuck, indeed.
.
Jungkook is nineteen years old, it’s Halloween, and he’s suffering from the horrible condition of having his heart broken from someone who never agreed to hold it in the first place. He didn’t even need to hear the words of rejection from your lips, for he doesn’t think he could handle the desperation of trying to fix the friendship, the desperation of trying to get you back when he’s sure you’ve moved halfway across the world right now.
“You didn’t even hear what she had to say,” Taehyung argues, but his voice is soft as if he’s treating something like fragile glass. And although Jeon Jungkook is far from fragile glass, the way he is currently wrapped up a little too tightly and too deeply in his blanket says a little too much about his current depression.
“I didn’t need to,” Jungkook argues back, voice slightly muffled from the blanket covering his mouth. “She’s already with Jimin. Why would she want to be with me? If anything, I probably freaked her out by saying all those stupid things.”
Taehyung sighs, pocketing his phone. “Look, Jungkook, I just think you moved too hastily—!”
He’s interrupted by a knocking on the door. The boy makes a slightly surprised noise in the back of his throat, but moves regardless to answer the call. The door opens, there is a quiet murmur that envelops the room, something that Jungkook pays little to no attention towards. He just burrows into the blankets and desires nothing more than the ground to swallow him up whole.
Footsteps come back into the living and Jungkook sighs. “Hyung, I don’t really want another lecture about this whole situation…”
“Hey you,” A soft voice speaks instead, cutting through his own tired facade and making his heart stop short because that voice. “Haven’t we met before?”
No fucking way. No fucking way at all. Your voice is definitely some fragment of his broken imagination. Even though he just saw you yesterday, he’s probably missing you too much. Besides, it’s Halloween. You’re supposed to be with Jimin.
Still, he finds himself turning his head towards the source of the noise. And he almost forgets how to breathe.
You stand a few feet away from him, hair in a ponytail, bright red bow across your neck, flowy skirt around your waist, and holy fuck. You’re wearing a costume. You’re wearing a Mitsuha costume. And you’re quoting Your Name at him.
His brain short circuits, his doe-eyes turning wider at the sight. This is definitely a dream. Definitely his imagination. What the fuck. There’s no fucking way.
You tuck your arms behind your back, smiling down at his defeated figure on the couch, but the smile is small and unsure and timid and so beautiful and golly god he is in love with you.
So naturally, Jungkook says the only thing he is truly capable of saying in this moment. “What are you doing here?”
You’re still smiling, but you keep your distance. “Well, I was hoping there was still a Taki I could pair up with. This costume is a little lonely on its own.”
“Huh?”
You sigh, tugging at your red bow. “Jungkook, I wanted to talk to you. About what to said to me yesterday.”
“Oh.” He swallows, not sure if he’s ready to talk about it. You’re probably just here to reject him and say you can’t be friends with him anymore. “Where’s your boyfriend?”
You look down. “I’m not sure. Probably getting drunk at one of the frats house parties. Not that it matters to me anymore.”
“Why doesn’t it matter?”
“Well, you see, Jimin isn’t my boyfriend. We’re not dating. We never were.”
He frowns. “Huh?”
You take in a breath, and take a step closer. Jungkook doesn’t back away, doesn’t shrink back in the couch. “Jungkook, I’m an idiot. I’m an idiot for a few reasons, but I think most of all, I’m an idiot for thinking you never once felt the same way I have.”
He almost wants to scoff automatically at your words, but something makes him stop short. Felt the same way you have? He looks at you, seeing you and hearing you but not really understanding you. “Again, huh?”
You exhale. “You know,” You start, taking a seat on the coffee table. “For someone who has liked you for four years, you would think I could come up with a better way of telling you my feelings.”
“Y-Your feelings?” He echoes. He hadn’t been expecting you at all tonight, so he had little time to prepare for such an interaction. “You’re in love with me too?”
You shrug a shoulder, moving a little closer so that your knees can touch. “That’s the idea, yeah.”
“B-But…” He scrambles to make sense of his thoughts. He wants to look at you, but he cannot seem to find the will to look at you and talk to you at the same time. “But you never said anything… and you started dating Jimin… and you seemed so happy… I thought…” His eyes find yours, and although feelings have definitely be shared, there is still a heavy amount of uncertainty in both of your stares. “You’ve been ignoring me for months. I thought you didn’t care anymore.”
“Jungkook…” You interrupt, reaching forward to grab his wrist. The usage of physical touch as a means of comfort makes him realize just how much he’s missed this kind of contact with you—even if the previous times you’ve touched him have been quick and friendly. He relishes in it though, clenching his jaw, trying not to do something too stupid too quickly. “You’re my best friend, I could never not care about you.”
“But…” He tries again. “Jimin… you guys were dating…”
“That was actually my idea,” Kim Taehyung interrupts, raising his fingers up just enough to drag both of your attention away from the other. He steps forward into the moment. “I’ve known about her feelings for years now, and I had a feeling you felt the same way too.” He looks at Jungkook while he says this. “But I wasn’t too sure, so that’s why I set Jimin up with her to see how you would react. You took such a long time to finally show any type of emotional response, I had been worried for a second that nothing would work out. But then she texted me saying that you completely lost your fucking mind on her, so I told her to come over.”
You smile a little. “I had little intention of throwing Taehyung under the bus… but—!”
Jungkook doesn’t know what propels him to close the last few inches of distance between the two of you, but all he knows is that it takes two seconds for him to deliver you with a bone-crushing hug that effectively cuts you off and effectively makes Taehyung feel like the outsider. He buries his nose into the crook of your neck, something he didn’t even realized he’s always wanted to do until the smell of lavender floods his nose and he realizes that this is entirely worth it.
“Jungkook,” You start again tentatively. “Are you alright?”
“I missed you,” He grumbles. “I hate you for playing games with me like this. But I love you too. And I’m sorry.”
You exhale breathlessly, but you return his hug, however awkward it may be with both of you still more or less sitting. “Shouldn’t I be the one saying sorry?”
“I mean…” He starts quietly. “That too. But maybe if you hadn’t done that, I wouldn’t have realized my feelings for you. I’m still sorry though.”
You laugh a little, musical sounds to his ears. “Of course I forgive you. But I think I would forgive you a little more if you did something with me.”
“And what’s that?”
You pull away, gesturing to your costume. “I hope you have a green tie with you somewhere. There’s a costume contest going on. For couples. And it’d be a shame if I let this Mitsuha costume go to waste.”
He pretends to ponder this. “For couples,” He quotes you. “Is this your way of asking me out?”
You tilt your head at him. “Is it working?”
“Perhaps.”
You place your hands on his shoulders. “How about,” You start. “You put on that green tie and we go to the contest and we really do something only couples should be allowed to do?”
The corner of Jungkook’s lip turn up, his heart picking up. “I might say yes to that,” He replies.
From outside the little bubble of conversation shared between you and Jungkook, Kim Taehyung groans and rolls his eyes. “I wonder how long it’s gonna take me to regret being the catalyst in your relationship.”
Pokemon Shield playthrough - Part 5
Back again with another post! This one covers Route 5 and the Water Gym.
Tumblr media
Just as I start down the route, I encounter the Cameraman/Reporter duo, who are a classic trainer pair from past games. Given that all the Gym Challenge stuff is a big spectacle in the Galar region, it makes perfect sense that Gym Challengers would get interviewed along the way.
Tumblr media
This horde of Minccino chased after me. It was adorable.
Tumblr media
I discovered the Pokemon breeding-grounds - or at least, the artificial version of it. This is not the same as the old “Day-Care” that could also level up Pokemon. The Nursery is solely for eggs, while Levelling up can be done with PokeJobs and the experience candies.
Tumblr media
The people here are really nice - they gave me a free rare Pokemon!
Tumblr media
It’s like a baby dinosaur! I believe this is also the first Poison-Electric combo we’ve had.
Tumblr media
Since I don’t want to have duplicate types, I remove Yamper from the team. I prefer dual-types, plus this purple dinosaur looks cooler. Okay, so he starts at Level 1, and he’s pretty frail, but I can be patient.
Tumblr media
Leaving the Nursery behind, I encounter another traditional trainer class - the Chef. He sends out food to attack me.
Tumblr media
I also find a wild Wobbuffet - and promptly realize just how horrible its catch rate is.
Tumblr media
I wasted every last Poke Ball on this fiend. At least he gave decent experience when I knocked his lights out.
Tumblr media
I consoled myself by catching the weird apple creature for myself. Here’s another unique type combo - Grass and Dragon (wait, does Mega Sceptile have that typing?) It only knows a defense-raising move and the incredibly-weak Astonish, and has horrible stats all around. I’m sure it will evolve into something great, if I can figure it out. (btw, is it weird that Galar has both apples /and/ “Leppa” berries?)
Tumblr media
I decided that my psychic-bug-cocoon wasn’t doing enough for me, so it got booted off the team.
Tumblr media
I also got a second try at Wobbuffet ;)
Tumblr media
This guy has a nice camping spot for himself. He never leaves. Maybe he ran away from home?
Tumblr media
Seeing a pink puffball and an apple fight over a toy is too cute for words.
Tumblr media
My coworker also has this game, and was kind enough to trade over this incredibly-high level Wingull. Not that I really plan to use it, but it /does/ have Pokerus. You’d think by now the nurses and professors of the Pokemon world would have learned to harness the power of Pokerus and turn it into a mandatory booster shot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back on track, these silly Team Yell people are blocking the bridge forward.
Tumblr media
I get to see what my Dark-type fox /could/ have evolved into, if it were still on my team :( It looks like a proper gentleman-thief.
Tumblr media
I love Pokemon - you save someone from getting their precious possession stolen, and as thanks, they give you their precious possession.
Tumblr media
Too bad the outfit for it is so garish.
Tumblr media
The blue color is a little better though.
Tumblr media
Now that I have a bike, I can go into the Wild Area and try the Rotom Rally mini-game. It’s basically a time trial as you travel between different regions of the Wild Area. It looks like you can’t get attacked by wild Pokemon while in this Rally mode, so it’s probably the quickest way to get around (minus the flying taxi, of course).
Tumblr media
These guys can also upgrade your bike a bit, but it’s expensive. And they don’t have the ride-on-water option either.
Tumblr media
You know, Serebii.net says that Bunnelby doesn’t evolve until Level 20. This is an illegal Diggersby here!
Tumblr media
Okay. Back on the bridge. Riding is so much faster than walking, but I keep stopping anyway to grab hidden items and look at the scenery. You can see the Dragon city in the background.
Tumblr media
Another fight with my rival on the bridge. His Scorbunny has evolved, but it’s still not too tough.
Tumblr media
In this place, Eldegoss literally float by on the wind.
Tumblr media
Here’s the tunnel that ducks under the train tracks. What could be on the other side?
Tumblr media
That can wait! First, I gotta get my Pokemon sent out on more jobs. I love this logo that’s a blatant KFC rip-off.
Tumblr media
Oh, I also discovered that you can, in fact, change the wallpaper of PC boxes. All of the choices are pretty boring, though.
Tumblr media
Also, my coworker invited me on a raid battle with a 5-star Ditto. I have a bad feeling about this...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scorbunny’s final form is so majestic.
Tumblr media
None of the previous raid battles I fought had “barriers”! Is that something that only shows up in multiplayer raids?
Tumblr media
This is it. We’ve weakened it, and now I have the chance to obtain this rare, useful, iconic Pokemon for myself...
Tumblr media
Yeah, I failed the capture. I didn’t know they could fail. At least I got some good loot.
Tumblr media
FINALLY, I make it to the seaside town of Hulbury. I wonder which British coastal town this is based on? For being the main port of the region, it’s not really all that big.
Tumblr media
We encounter Chairman Rose and some of his “admirers”.
Tumblr media
We also learn a little more about the relationship between Rose and Bede. Apparently Bede really wants to impress the Chairman, so maybe he’s not so much “working for him” as trying to gain his favor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know, I really don’t think he pulls off that outfit. What is it even - a mix of baseball uniform and swim trunks?
Tumblr media
Oleana thinks she can boss me around.
Tumblr media
I don’t owe you anything, silly person! This is /my/ Pokemon journey. And I’ll take as long as I want. ^.^
Tumblr media
Sigh...Why can’t I just throw my coal monster at these goons to get past? My character is way too nice.
Tumblr media
Oh, here’s another look at that elephant Pokemon that the Chairman had. It looks like it’s wearing a little hat.
Also, please be more creative when naming locations.
Tumblr media
Here’s the “bustling market” I was told about? Must be a slow day.
Tumblr media
We’ve got the stock “bitter medicine” booth (I never use these)...
Tumblr media
Ah! Here’s something useful. You can bet I will use this item to maximize my earnings from every battle. I haven't seen an option to re-battle trainers yet, and those cool outfits won’t buy themselves.
Tumblr media
I trade away for a Cottonee. You know, why don’t people in real life just trade pets with each other whenever they feel like it?
Tumblr media
Pokemon, Pokemon...People already say your recent games are too easy, and now you’re giving me a free held item that’s super-effective against the current Gym? (Yet another sign that you should ignore Oleana and /not/ go straight to the Gym upon arrival.)
Tumblr media
If nothing else, Hulbury is scenic. I bet the dock is covered with Wingull droppings though.
Tumblr media
These people obviously don’t get the point of Pokemon.
Tumblr media
With the hills overlooking the sea, I’m reminded of Los Angeles - or was it San Francisco? It’s probably a lot colder in Hulbury though.
Tumblr media
Here’s the train station at the top of the town. Of course it can’t take me anywhere new. What if my dying grandmother lived in the next town over - would you let me get on /then/?
Tumblr media
I never got into Pokemon’s post-game battle facilities much. I wonder what Galar will have in that department.
Tumblr media
I go fishing in the pier, and find a few new Pokemon. That seems to confirm that what you catch is based on where you are, so there’s no rod upgrades.
Good to see that Basculin still comes in two forms. I’m guessing Sword version has the red form?
Tumblr media
Another sneaky way to help players - hide a Chinchou in the pier. Its electric attacks would also be useful against the Water Gym.
Tumblr media
Aha! Here’s that Pokemon we saw in the trailer, when everyone wasn’t sure if it /was/ a Pokemon or just a generic fish. Well, it is real, though it doesn’t look that useful. It actually looks like a skinnier version of red-striped Basculin.
Tumblr media
Nope, not keeping you. I only have six slots!
Tumblr media
Some more postcard pictures.
Tumblr media
Here’s that weird-looking Pokemon that was also glimpsed in the trailer. Will I be able to find this in the wild?
Tumblr media
A hidden Electric-type TM. This is why you explore and do side stuff /before/ continuing the main story.
Tumblr media
About ready to face the Gym now. First, now that I’ve entered a new town, I have some new options for my league card.
Tumblr media
Here’s a brief look at where I am so far.
Tumblr media
And a preview of Nessa. That pose cannot be comfortable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My team. I’m hoping Avery’s Electric attacks will help, even though he is a bit under-leveled...
Tumblr media
First, the Gym puzzle. It’s not really that hard. You could probably do it completely by accident.
In the old days, we had puzzles involving sliding around on icy floors, and using the Strength HM to push boulders into the correct holes. Now /that/ was a puzzle!
Tumblr media
I wonder if Nessa ever gets cold, wearing that?
Tumblr media
Her Dreadnaw wasn’t a super-high level, but it was incredibly powerful.
Tumblr media
It knocked out my Dynamaxed Pokemon, even when the Dreadnaw itself was small!
Tumblr media
I had no choice but to pull out my starter, and fight water with water.
Tumblr media
Turns out Nessa’s calm demeanor breaks when she faces failure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now it’s dusk. I still don’t get how time of day works in this game - is it just an aesthetic thing related to the story?
Tumblr media
A change in lighting can make for totally different pictures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have access to a new job company. They must be a sponsor for Nessa, since she wore a pin with their logo. Does this mean we can actually encounter Wailord in the game?
Tumblr media
I also get the Chairman’s league card. I like the way he writes his signature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know the drill - can’t advance with my life until I follow the plotted line into this restaurant. At least it looks fancy inside. I like the Wishi-Washi designs on the floor.
Tumblr media
Some story stuff happens. I am completely extraneous to this conversation.
Tumblr media
I don’t really know how I feel about the Chairman. I still think he’s probably up to no good, but he’s not the cackling-evil sort that Lusamine was. Maybe it’s actually Oleana who’s evil, and Rose is being manipulated.
Tumblr media
This restaurant: Nice location, horrible service. The whole time I sat here - empty glasses, and no food. If I’m gonna be forced to sit and listen to some exposition, I should at least get a meal out of it.
Tumblr media
Okay, that’s all for now! In the next entry, I will enter this tunnel into yet another mine.
huge life update..!!
hey everyone !! so as you’ve seen, we’ve been slowly returning to this blog. we’re so sorry for kind of abandoning it in the past few months, it wasn’t on purpose and we never really meant to do it. there was no “let’s take a hiatus” decision, we did want to keep running the blog but a lot has been going on and life has been really distracting !! soooo much has happened with us, and we can’t wait to tell you all about what we’ve been up to !!
we left off telling you about our month-long first meeting. ruby lived in california while i lived in canada, and we met online through pokemon. at the very beginning of april, after almost a year of dating, ruby flew over to canada and we met for the first time. we spent an amazing month together and did so many fun things before she had to leave at the end of april, just a few days before our one year anniversary. it was a very tearful goodbye as being together in real life had been so wonderful that we really dreaded going back to being long distance. this is the part you’ve already known. oh how things have changed...
it was only a short two months before we saw each other again. we spent may and june apart, but then, at the very end of june, i was the one who flew to california. like ruby in april, it was my first time going through an airport and on an airplane all by myself !!! i was extremely nervous to do it but after it had happened, it wasn’t neaaarly as bad as i thought it would be. the flight itself was disappointingly extremely boring and i couldn’t wait for it to be over. i absolutely love looking out the window but the woman in the window seat beside me, as well as apparently every single person around me, kept the windows closed the entire flight ! ! ! ! and oh god that woman... i couldn’t text ruby throughout the flight so i wrote down the hilarious things she said so that i could tell her them later. i won’t say what they were right now because i don’t want a huge portion of this life update to just be about her but dear god ... if anyone wants to know what happened with her, feel free to send an ask about it and i will most gladly tell c; let’s just say... i named her melania trump ...
ruby and i had no idea that we would see each other again so soon. when we parted at the end of april, we had no clue for how long it would be. we hoped we would be lucky enough to see each other again around christmas, because we knew we really wanted to spend that together. and we ended up being even luckier than that ! we did lots of fun things in california; went swimming in ruby’s pool (i don’t have a pool so this was exciting to me okay !), went to a fair on the fourth of july where we saw a rodeo and amazing fireworks, we drove 10 hours to arizona !!!, where we camped for a few days in The Wilderness, and we had never seen so many stars in our lives. the town of sedona and the mountains in arizona were so extremely beautiful and breathtaking. we went to san pedro and santa monica pier... sedona and santa monica were my two favourite places, especially santa monica. they were both so extremely beautiful. the stars in sedona and the sunset on santa monica beach... in california we also discovered ubereats. i mean, we’d always known it existed, but they had only just started making deliveries where ruby lived, and we don’t have it where i live in canada, so we had never used it before. we ordered it once and then...got addicted. we ordered quite a few “feasts” every few days where we would buy enough food that it looked as though it were for a party, but it was just the two of us. relationship goals though, am i right ? i loved our feasts ! we also walked around hollywood, of course, which i’d really wanted to see. i got a lot of fun souvenirs ! and we saw the hollywood sign !! that about ended my time in california... or i should say, OUR time.
that’s right, when i returned to canada at the end of july, after spending one month in california, ruby came with me. it was my dad’s idea, that she should come for another visit and experience summer in canada, since when she was here in april it was still winter and way too cold to do certain things. we had her ticket to canada bought before i even left for california !
we missed our flight. we might’ve left the house a tiny bit too late, and then there was traffic on the way to the airport. once we got there, there was technically still time. our plane hadn’t left off yet and we knew that planes never left exactly on time anyway. if we hurried through security we could probably still.... but they wouldn’t let us !!! immediately at check in they told us that we could no longer check in for this flight. it was too late. we had to be there at least an hour before departure. even though we probably could have made it, they said no... but they told us they could put us on the next flight. which was at 6pm. IT WASN’T EVEN NOON YET. ruby’s parents had already left us at the airport, we couldn’t sit there until 6pm !!!! PLUS, my parents had already driven 2 hours to toronto for us at this point, doing some shopping before they expected to pick us up at the airport at 7pm canadian time. like this, we wouldn’t even BOARD OUR PLANE until 9pm their time !!!! WE WOULD ARRIVE IN CANADA NOT AT 7PM, BUT AT PAST 2AM. this could NOT happen. my parents, with my little siblings with them as well, could not wait for us until 2am. there had to be a sooner flight. there had to be. AND LUCKILY, THERE WAS. they said that they could squeeze us onto a flight that left just an hour after our original flight. we would only arrive in canada slightly late. thank god. we also extremely luckily got seats together. our seats weren’t assigned until we were waiting for the plane to begin boarding. the man at the desk said that unfortunately, they didn’t have any seats left together, as he started printing our boarding passes... but he didn’t even finish saying it before he cut himself off, seeing that they DID have a seat together, and printed our new tickets, next to each other. finally everything was set !!! we had a much better flight together than i did when i flew to california. i got the window seat and got to look out the window all i wanted !!! we also watched ratatouille on the plane. because of delays, we didn’t get there until 10pm canadian time. it was nice seeing my family again after a whole month away. and then was the long drive home... we got to my house near 1am. AND I GOT TO SEE MY CATS. i had been away from them for so long !!!!!!!
so began our next month in canada. it was august, and we tried to do as many fun things together as we could. just a few days after we returned to canada, my family left for the long weekend to the state of new york. so we had the house to ourselves ! my siblings are... extremely loud and annoying. whenever they’re home, we try to stick to my room because there are no words for how horrible they are. so we were very glad to have the house to ourselves for once and took the opportunity to cook some tasty food together ! we made several good breakfasts and we even cooked two batches of meringues, which were really good. during the rest of august, we went swimming at the beach (where we had taken a walk back in april and i died from how freezing it was back then), shopped at my favourite mall, watched the incredibles 2 at the theatre, went to the african lion safari where we saw many animals such as elephants, zebras, giraffes, lions, and more, and we bought ruby a (very cheap) nintendo switch !!! she had been wanting one for literally EVER but had no money to get one. she was always really upset that she may never get one, especially with lots of games coming out that she wanted. so i helped her get one and she was so happy !!! we also both played my most favourite game in the world, together on our switches, when we saw that it had been released for switch: okami hd !!!! we have actually yet to finish it but we are very close to the end.... it’s such a good game and ruby really loves it ! i’ve wanted her to play it forever ! we also got mario kart 8 for switch, which has been a lot of fun to play together, we went to niagara on the lake, where we tried beavertails and poutine for the first time, but then when we had barely ate some of the poutine a TINY gust of wind somehow managed to blow it off our table and spill it all over the ground >:( we were so depressed !!!!!!  we also went on a horse carriage ride ! and tried costco fries ! (costco’s in the US don’t sell fries in their cafe area and i have always really loved them and wanted ruby to try them... on the other hand american costco’s sell chicken bakes which are SO good and canadian costco’s don’t D’: i will miss them..) and we had campfires again !! just like back in april !! ruby has also helped me find homes for 5 stray kittens/cats that lived outside my house. they were a big problem, always having kittens and sadly suffering during the winter when it was freezing and there was little food. we were finally able to help the last of them !!! that makes over 20 strays that i’ve found homes for ! however... there were actually 6 cats. the last was a black cat named pepper. i loved her a lot but she was very sick. a rescue did take her along with the other adult stray and had her treated and fixed !!! but they couldn’t find a home for her... so they ended up returning her a month later and... we ended up taking her in just a few days ago !!! pepper is now mine !! i have 6 cats now hehehe... so that makes for our time in canada.
you may be thinking to yourself: but you said you spent the month of august together. it’s been more than a month. you both adopted pepper just the other day, and it’s october now. well... that would be right ! ruby is still here. SHE IS STAYING HERE.
YES. YES. YES. RUBY IS IN CANADA AND NOT LEAVING. so a few weeks into august, i asked my dad for advice on what the heck we’re supposed to do for ruby to begin immigrating to canada. he said well why wait ? there’s no better time to start than right now. we were ecstatic and in disbelief. we wouldn’t have to say goodbye again. ruby was not going back to california. so it was still august when we cancelled ruby’s flight and began preparing for her move. she couldn’t go back for her stuff in california because well... it would be weird and suspicious if she spent a whole month in canada, went back to california for like a week, and then returned with a ton of stuff. what would she even tell as her reason for returning to canada at airport security this time ? yeah... we thought it would be best if she didn’t leave the country. instead, her mom is going to be mailing several packages of ruby’s belongings over. but don’t worry, we’re not secretly keeping her here illegally. my family has immigrated illegally to canada and ruby’s illegally to the US, so we know all of the trouble that causes and want to avoid that. she is technically still a visitor. americans are allowed to visit canada for 6 months per year, every year, so she can be here no problem until the end of january 2019. so we have until then to figure out something more to keep her here longer. we are planning to begin college together, and that way she can get a study permit and a work permit for the length of the program (likely around 18 months). in those 18 months we would then make progress toward keeping her here after graduation, such as having her apply for a permanent residency. it’s hard but i’m sure everything will work out !
however, we are... extremely stressed out at the moment. the problem is, we have no money. we need thousands to pay for college. we need jobs to get money. ruby can’t even get a job yet, as she has no work permit. also, neither of us have driver’s licenses, though we are working to get them. and she cannot get a work permit until she has a study permit. but to get the study permit we have to have a way to pay for school---- you see the problem.
we want to go to college for video game design and development. we both have a huge love and passion for video games and would love to be the ones creating them. we already have plenty ideas for games that we want to create one day. (because of me tbh,.. every little thing gives me a new idea !) the first school i thought of was the toronto film school. so one day we simply requested more information from them, so we could learn more about what the school and the program were like. the admissions adviser called us pretty much immediately and was super nice. we talked to him a lot over the course of several days, and were very excited to apply for this school. however... we hadn’t fully thought things through just yet. looking back on it now, he kind of pressured us a little bit, urging us to apply right away so that we could be accepted and start at the school in january 2019. he said that the school would help us find an apartment in toronto and everything. toronto is 2 hours away so of course we’d have to move out to attend this school. now, filling out an application isn’t the bad thing. neither were the short essays we had to write along with the application. i don’t mind applying and even being accepted to this school. what i mind is the price, after realizing that toronto may not be the best idea. the application had a $100 fee, each, and we are extremely extremely extremely broke. but we paid it. they urged us to, made us feel like we had to apply right at that moment and that everything would work out. within just like, 4 or 5 days honestly, of simply requesting some more information about the school, we had applied and paid a non-refundable $200 together. and just a few days after that.... we truly realized how bad of an idea it was. we hadn’t even glanced at other schools to see what our options were. i did mention our worries about money to our admissions adviser for toronto film school, telling him that i have no idea how we are going to pay for all of this and that we may just have to apply for another school--- he brushed me off very quickly. didn’t even consider the option and just told me that everything would be fine and we would find a way to pay for the school and that we should apply as soon as possible so that our spots for january could be saved. he pushed me to apply, and i feel stupid for doing so now. i regret it. if it had just been a written application and all free it would all be fine but what i regret is the two of us losing $200 when we have nothing. we could have used that money to apply for a different school or pay the fee for our driver’s license test and now we have nothing. i am salty about that. i kind of feel scammed. i wish we could get our money back but i’m certain there really is no way... it’s non-refundable. sighs... the issue is, toronto is SO expensive. the school tuition would have been $33,000 each, and we thought we were soooo lucky because they told us ruby wouldn’t have to pay an extra 10k in international fees and instead get the same 33k as me. toronto, being an enormous city, gives you the shittiest, tiniest apartments, for so much money. rent would have been about $1,200 a month for an 18 month program. we were easily looking at about $88,000 that we would have to pay together. god, i am only just realizing just how much that would have been. and that is ONLY for our schooling and housing, not including other utilities and things like food. where would we, jobless as we currently are, GET 88 THOUSAND DOLLARS ??? pluuus, fafsa (american college aid) does not support the toronto film school. however osap (canadian college aid) does. i would have gotten some help for my tuition but ruby, the one who needs the help the most, being in a foreign country with no money and unable to get a job yet, would receive NOTHING. apparently fafsa hardly gives you anything anyways... but something is obviously better than nothing, and she would get nothing.
so toronto film school was a bad idea. i regret spending that $200 application fee. even if we get accepted, i hardly doubt it’s going to happen. i don’t think i want it to happen anymore. the costs scare me too much. we would struggle too much. it would be impossible.
on the bright side, i suppose, we are now considering a better school option. (though that doesn’t make the extreme stress go away, of course. we are still extremely broke). there is a school 40 minutes from my house called the university of western ontario. it’s closer by, so the location is much better and we’d be able to visit home much more often. housing would also be so, so much cheaper. the apartments there are not only much better quality, but larger, and cheaper. i visited an apartment building just today that is literally directly across the street from my favourite mall and a 5 minute walk from the university. it is the perfect location and i’m kind of in love with it. the tuition itself is likely much cheaper as well. i have not requested any information from this school yet so i have no idea how much exactly a video game program would cost, but when i quickly googled the general cost of this school, it told me that it is 8k for canadian students and 24k for international students. yep, international fees, which the toronto film school apparently didn’t have. it’s not very fair that i have to pay only 8k possibly while ruby has to pay 24k, but 24k is still much cheaper than 33k. that is nine thousand dollars we would save. PLUS, fafsa actually supports this university. we highly hope that they would give ruby a decent amount of money, though she says they hardly help at all. they gave her only a few hundred when she applied to a californian college once that she didn’t end up attending, and her sister actually started college extremely recently and they gave her absolutely nothing. so... there’s a chance they won’t help much. there’s also a chance that since she’s going to school in a whole other country rather than in the US, they might give her more for that. but we have no idea how much they might give her until she applies for it. we can only hope that it’s a good amount. though... any little bit helps. at least at this university she will get something.
so the university of western ontario sounds heaven sent. just one problem. they might not have a video game program. and we reaaally want to go into video game development.... it took me two years to decide what career i wanted in life because none of them bring me happiness !!!!! i don’t want to miss out on this one now that i finally decided on it !!!! but there is still hope. western university does list a video game program on their website, they just say that it is currently closed. however i have seen articles published in just 2017 about how western is “one of the best schools for video game development”. i wonder, if it’s so great and those articles were posted just last year, how can they have the program unavailable ! what i am hoping is that they only mean it is unavailable for the current year, which would make sense. the school year just started, it is too late too apply. but we weren’t planning on attending until 2019. perhaps, perhaaaaps... they do still have the program and it will be open again in 2019, when we wanted to attend ? however i cannot confirm this until i contact the school, which i will do soon... i really hope this is the case. if western university offered video game design and had all of these other perks, it would be literally perfect.
(but we are still very poor and very stressed out and afraid)
currently, we need to finish getting our driver’s licenses. we, especially ruby, need $150 each just to do the test... then i need to get a job. and ruby needs to get accepted into a school so she can get a study permit and work permit and she can get a job. and then we have to purchase (yes purchase, not rent, my dad claims it’s the better option) an apartment, move out, and juggle school, work, and life all at the same time, while also working to make ruby a canadian citizen. phew ! ! !
ruby has considered making a gofundme and i think that we will do it soon... i don’t know if anyone would donate, they didn’t when i tried to make a gofundme a few years ago when my dog had cancer. but we can hope. any bit that any one would donate would help us with something. so i think that we will do it. we’ll probably post the link on here once we have it, in case any of you would be able to, and be kind enough to, help us out ;w; how does that sound...? does anyone here think they would be able to donate something once we have that link..? we are wondering whether we can expect to get any sort of help from here ;w; ... apart from that and getting jobs, i’m not sure how we can make some extra money... we will need as much of it as we can get if we want to make it through this without struggling terribly. i wish either of us were particularly good at something to sell on etsy or commissions or... i don’t know. i don’t know what else we can do.
anyway, that leaves us where we are now ! we have a lot on us that we need to accomplish but.. we will try to get through it. we will get through it. together. because i still can’t believe she’s here. i can’t believe this is happening. that we never have to say goodbye and we can begin work on keeping her here forever. it’s an amazing, amazing thing, but it has its difficulties. but we have already gone through so much together. it truly is 20gayteen. at the beginning of this year, we had never even met in real life yet, and we didn’t know yet that we would. in april, we met, and when she left we didn’t expect to be back together so soon. and even then, we had no idea that this would happen. that she would stay here and we would be looking to begin college and move out together. god, the things that have happened this year. wow. Wow. i have a hard time believing that this is real, that i’m not dreaming. i never thought something like this could happen. tomorrow is our 17 month anniversary, and we are together.
(sorry this was so long !! we’ve been waiting really long to update you guys on All of the things that have happened c: thank you so much if you managed to read the whole thing, and we’d love to chat about it more if you’d like to send an ask about anything ! ...remember, my melania trump airplane story... and i hope that when we create a gofundme in a couple of days, any of you will be able to help us out !! ;w; love you all !!! 💖💖💖)
