Sorry for this long post but can people stop treating Vader and Anakin as completely separate people. Like. That type of dissociation were obviously coping mechanisms by Old Ben and Vader. Not like. A literal fragmentation of personalities. Like if you love Anakin Skywalker imo you have to accept that he was a cute kid and a padme simp and a fun older brother and a boy desperately in need of acknowledgement and praise and a father who ultimately loved his son but also a guy who commits atrocities in his anger and strangles people who annoy him and has a victim/persecution complex (although admittedly for good reason) and was also a notorious child killer. This man contains multitudes.
Imo falling to the dark side/using the light side of the force isn’t marked by a shift or fragmentation of personality, but rather what emotions are used to channel the force and guide one’s actions. I think part of what’s so hard about resisting the dark side and coming back to the light is that there’s positive feedback loops of power, and resisting that by doing good and healthily channeling emotions is just plain hard. Especially in the case of Anakin, who is notoriously a “in for a penny, in for a pound” type of guy. He’s loyal and loves completely and dangerously with his whole heart, and he hates just as much.
And I think guilt is a huge factor with him struggling to do good; it’s pretty much a thought process of “Well, I’ve already committed thousands of atrocities and have countless amounts of blood on my hands, I have to believe whole hog in what I’ve been doing because then otherwise what was it all for.” I think that’s what makes his sacrifice for Luke so poignant, because it speaks to how much he loves his son that he’s able to overcome that spiral and do one last act of love for his son, unselfishly and without rationalization.
Idk, I just watched ESB again, and I think beyond just wanting to possess Luke and use him for power, it’s reasonable to think that part of the reason Vader wants him so badly to turn to the dark side with him is that he still thinks the dark side is the only way he can have enough power to protect his family and therefore keep them—he’s objectively much more powerful than he was in the prequels, and a main part of his struggles during the fall of the Republic was that he didn’t feel “strong enough” to protect the people he loved as a Jedi. He wasn’t able to free the slaves. He wasn’t able to save his mother. He wasn’t able to stop Ashoka’s expulsion from the order. He wasn’t able to prevent Padmé from dying. With the commitment he’s had to his path and the objective amount of power he’s amassed since the twins’ births, I think it’s reasonable to assume he desperately grasping at the idea that somehow, this time, he’ll be able to achieve what he’s never been able to do before. But his failure always lies in the fact that his motivations are, and always have been, ultimately self-serving, that his pride and fear of loss—which are completely understandable in moderation and not something he should necessarily be punished for—outweigh his real and genuine care for his loved ones and the galaxy at large.
Idk. All this to say that Anakin has always been Vader and Vader has always been Anakin. They’re the same fucking person, you fools! Stop taking dissociative rationalization literally!!! It’s right there in the text!!!! His return to the light does not negate his time in the dark and vice versa! There is good in him !! He is capable of unspeakable evil !!! BOTH ARE TRUE AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!

Just for fun, initially born as a Andor frame study, then I decided to expand the series and make four drawings. I also wanted to draw them in my style, but then I took it too seriously ending up drawing them as closer as possible as the original reference.

I just saw your system failure-dramatically crashed Vader and I just want to say how sexy he looks in that! From the hip down to his boots? And his arms sprawled and chest arched? It was supposed to be funny! Why is it sexy!?!
Also, your other art as I just spent 10 minutes checking your blog is magnificent! I'm a sucker for sketch-type art and it's beautiful!
Tumblr media
I don’t ever intend to make something “sexy”. I’m ace so such things just don’t appeal to me, lol. I’m just very fascinated by human anatomy. I had to study it religiously in college and it’s been something I’ve found myself loving in an aesthetic manner.
I tend to draw anatomy on the more lithe muscle side of things and I compare Vader to that of a black panther. All sleek musculature. Most of it metal oops
And thank you so much! I’m glad you’re a sucker for sketchy stuff cause so am I!

Hi hello yes I am currently crying because Obi-Wan’s trust in Anakin is so unwavering. Obi-Wan says that Anakin has never let him down and never will. He tells Anakin that he’s a better person and Jedi than himself and that the Council will definitely make him a Master soon, and he says it all with a smile because he believes every word and is so happy for Anakin. He never once doubts that Anakin is alive and doing his best.
And it’s all shattered when he sees the recording of Anakin killing Jedi and it’s all stomped on when he sees Anakin being Sidious’ apprentice.
Obi-Wan begs Yoda not to send him after Anakin. He knows he can’t kill Anakin. He knows himself and he knows that he can’t put the greater good above Anakin, he’s never been able to do that, and he says he’ll take on Darth Sidious, the powerful Sith Lord who now rules the entire galaxy, because he can’t bear to think of what he’d have to do if he has to go to Anakin.
And he doesn’t kill Anakin. More than that, he doesn’t blame Anakin! He blames himself!! He says he failed him!! He’s always had a small part of himself that said he wasn’t the right Master for Anakin, that such a powerful person needed an experienced Master and one that didn’t struggle so much with attachment. And this just proves it to him!!!! He thinks, “If anyone else had taught Anakin, this wouldn’t have happened,” and it’s because his trust in Anakin is so unwaveringly bright and his doubt in himself weighs him down so much that he believes the simple change of him not being in Anakin’s life would be enough for Anakin to be good forever because he thinks Anakin is the best!!!!!
He starts the trilogy calling Anakin another pathetic lifeform. By the third movie, he calls Anakin his brother, he tells him he loved him, he wholeheartedly believes that Anakin is the Chosen One, even though he’s always expressed doubt. His faith in Anakin is unshakable and if Anakin had just cried on Mustafar and said he was sorry, Obi-Wan would’ve accepted his apology and all of his actions and would’ve just hugged him.
The pain on Obi-Wan’s face when he’s watching Anakin burn. He’s tired and running on adrenaline and he still picks up Anakin’s lightsaber and he can’t even bring himself to watch Anakin die, he leaves because he can’t bear it, he can’t stand it, even after everything, he doesn’t want Anakin to die.
His face as they’re flying off of Mustafar. He’s so sad and he’s so quiet and he’s so tired and he’s so lost. He doesn’t know where to go, he doesn’t know what to do, and it wasn’t the destruction o the Jedi that left him purposeless. We saw him taking in the destruction and saw that it only encouraged him to warn off survivors and that he was still full of energy and still hoping to help people. No, it was the loss of Anakin. Anakin has been his guiding light since Obi-Wan suddenly found a nine-year-old thrust into his arms and was told to raise it. Anakin has been his reason to live and to improve and to push himself and without Anakin, he feels so lost, adrift at sea, torn apart, and his face as he’s leaving says that he’s going over every second of the fight, every second of Anakin’s Knighthood and Padawanship, trying to figure out what he could have done differently so that Anakin didn’t do this.
Yoda is lucky that Qui-Gon was both Obi-Wan’s Master and the guy who figured out how to be functionally immortal, and that Luke was born. If neither of these things happened, I don’t think Obi-Wan would’ve made it. I think he would’ve died.
But Obi-Wan is the first person to hold Luke. He doesn’t put Luke down, he holds him and while he showed Luke to Padme, he just glances over and then says “It’s a girl,” about Leia. When Bail offers to take Leia to raise her, Obi-Wan’s first concern is “What about the boy?” Yoda says they’ll take Luke to his family on Tatooine and Obi-Wan immediately says he’ll take him and watch over him, and Yoda immediately recognizes that as Obi-Wan exiling himself.
Hearing that he could speak to Qui-Gon again brings some hope back to him. Luke and Leia bring some hope back to him. But he is still broken because Anakin isn’t there to experience it all with him. Anakin isn’t there and Anakin will never be there again and Obi-Wan exiles himself into the desert because he feels like he failed Anakin.
By taking on the burden of responsibility for all of Anakin’s actions, Obi-Wan is basically blaming himself for the eradication of the Jedi, the rise of the Empire, the death of Padme, and countless terrible murders that will happen over the next nineteen years.
And the Obi-Wan Kenobi series just further cements that Obi-Wan blames himself for all the bad that has happened in the universe, to the point of cutting himself off from the Force and inadvertently cutting himself off from Qui-Gon and he never even tries to interact in person with Luke and he only ends up saving Leia because there’s no one else who can do it.
Obi-Wan’s exile on Tatooine is kind of split in two possibilities, in terms of canon. There’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, the series. And there’s Obi-Wan’s Journals, in the comics. And both of them go over the possible journey from sad, depressed old man to sad, depressed old man who occasionally uses the Force. There are a lot of common points between the two, actually, more than I want to get into here, because what’s important is that it doesn’t matter if it’s Leia or Luke inspiring him to pick up his lightsaber again, because it’s always them reminding him of Anakin that gives him enough hope to have the strength to use the Force.
It was Leia being Anakin’s daughter and somehow acting just like him, stubborn and passionate to a fault. It was Luke being Anakin’s son, so full of kindness and justice that he does incredibly stupid things completely selflessly. Whether it was Leia being stubborn and righteously furious or Luke being kind and stupidly confident, Obi-Wan saw them fighting for what was right. He saw them embody the spirit of a Jedi. Never giving up, putting themself between danger and people, willing to die for people they didn’t know and who would never know or care about their sacrifice.
And it reminds Obi-Wan of Anakin because Obi-Wan saw Anakin as the pinnacle of a Jedi. In his mind’s eye, Anakin was the most selfless, kind, stubborn, stupid, passionate person in the entirety of the galaxy, and that was what made him so good at being a Jedi.
(Obi-Wan does not believe that one has to follow all the rules to be a good Jedi. Obi-Wan was Qui-Gon Jinn’s apprentice. At most, Obi-Wan believes that he himself has to follow all the rules to be a good Jedi, but he definitely thinks that other Jedi can break the rules and still be great. I mean, his friend is Quinlan Vos, dude. There is no way that Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn and friend to Quinlan Vos and Master of Anakin Skywalker, isn’t just super hypocritical about rule following. Obi-Wan has to follow all the rules or else he is disgusting and shameful and a waste of space. Everyone else has to follow the rules when the rules apply but if the rules are keeping them from doing something, well, who hasn’t bent the rules a bit from time to time?)
Luke is Obi-Wan’s and Yoda’s hope because he isn’t as quick to anger as his father and sister. He doesn’t get as frustrated. He’s melancholy and optimistic and he’s stupidly willing to throw himself in front of a maniac with knives and get stabbed like ten times just to protect the weird sentient rock monsters he met five seconds ago (the 2015 run is a little bit weird). Leia is their second choice, but only because she is so much like Anakin that Yoda probably went “Obi-Wan, remember what happened last time do you?? Mustafar you want to relive?? Train another Skywalker who bites you want to do????”
When Obi-Wan tells Luke or Leia that they’re like their father, he only ever means it in a positive way. He isn’t talking about Darth Vader. He’s talking about his Padawan. His best friend. His brother. The person who never broke his trust and always had his back and who was ceaselessly passionate and optimistic at the worst of times and who jumped out of speeders and who he loved more than anything in the galaxy. He tells Leia she has Anakin’s traits, but he mentions the good alongside the bad because he doesn’t view Anakin’s passion as a failing. He tells Luke he’s like his father and he says so with such a strong fondness and affection for Anakin.
He loved Anakin so much that I think he really did view Vader and Anakin as two separate entities. He had to view them as separate. And that’s what he was trying to get Luke to do. Don’t view Darth Vader as his father or as Anakin, view him as Darth Vader. He tried so hard to keep Vader and Anakin separate in his mind. But he still accepts the fault for teaching both of them, he still puts the blame on himself, and even while he’s blaming Vader for Anakin’s death, Obi-Wan can’t help but blame himself for letting Vader become too powerful and out of control in the first place.
And I am crying about it.

I think/hope one of these two shots is the one you are talking about! In the first one, gosh, he just looks so frightened and like he has no idea what to think? He doesn’t know what to do? He’s not ready to deal with this? Ewan is so expressive. And the second one is just pur shock and fear. 🥺

KENOBI EPISODE 6 SPOILERS
...
okay so i’ve been thinking about a fic where reader is sort of an engineer for the empire and works on building armor for the troopers or repairing them.
its lonely work. you don’t have assistants. no actual human coworkers. its just you and droids, designing, repairing, trying to improve the armor of the soldiers on the ship. you don’t really interact much with anyone else. you get requests and orders. you filled them. you move onto the next task. and repeat.
you’re expected to fix everyone on the ship’s armor. everyone--that including darth vader. however you’ve never actually had to repair his helmet or any of his armor for that matter. you got the schematics of his full suit of armor and you see how poorly designed its made. how outdated.
and you get bored sometimes...so maybe you tinker on little projects, ways to improve vader’s helmet/suit. how to make this sith lord more comfortable. and maybe you have several of those much improved helmets just waiting on a shelf, growing dusty. you never actually expect the plans to reach the light of day. he has never requested your services before.
and then one day you’re getting a comm that lord vader is needing your service and be prepared for his arrival soon.
your spine feels like a stiff rod, standing up so straight your back aches from it. heart thundering in your chest with fear of darth vader’s reputation. his anger. the doors open and you hold your breath.
you’re not expecting his haggard appearance. the labored wheezing. you don’t even see the cracked helmet at first with his body doubled over. you forget all the stories about him, your own sanity, as you rush over to his side, wrapping an arm around his back and help him inside.
its once he’s sitting down that you notice the helmet almost split apart. you see the glimpse of his scarred pale flesh.
you don’t expect him to have blue eyes.

Hellooo if requests are still open,,, may i please request one with zacharie, the batter and valarie? With the reader having an overactive imagination (i.e being able to make up stories on the spot and sometimes rambling about these idea’s) maybe at some point just saying “oh im sorry,, am i rambling to much???” If you reply thank you for your time and have a wonderful day!! :D
Anon, I'm going to give you the most loving headpat of all time for requesting Vader Eloha!!!
Batter, Zacharie and Vader Eloha with a Reader who has an Overactive Imagination
Batter:
Batter is always going to be all ears whenever his beloved puppeteer starts talking, your voice being more beautiful than any song angels or something akin to them could sing, so naturally he will give each and every single one of your stories his full attention. But it’s not just the way your voice sounds that has him completely smitten, oh no, it’s also your creativity and the way you express yourself through the medium of speech, with all kinds of emotions behind it.
From the way you smile when you think of something funny or wholesome to the way you could almost cry when your beloved characters die, it all makes all the more intrigued by your stories and ideas, not that he wasn’t already. And even if you simply state them in the most flat and monotone voice imaginable, he will still be more than happy to listen to you. You can expect him to ask you some questions as well, if you don’t mind them.
Whilst he may not be the most expressive person, or the most imaginative one either, having a hard time imagining something in full detail that isn’t just his instinct in battle, he will try his best to visualise something you’re telling him about. As mentioned before, he will ask questions since he has difficulty doing so. And who knows, maybe if you tell him about something very wholesome and sweet he might just think that you and him being in that situation might be very sweet as well!
Don’t you worry about apologising to the guy, he won’t take any offence to you talking a lot, quite the opposite, he loves it. The only time he will interrupt you is when you’re about to get maimed by a spectre, but I think that can be excused. Other than that, he will tell you that it’s alright in his usual, flat and monotone tone.
Zacharie:
Zacharie will also be giving you his full attention, most of the time. When he isn’t haggling with a tough customer, he, too, will listen to every single word you have to say. Of course, that doesn’t mean you won’t be teased lightly on occasion or flirted with when you have some ideas, but he means well and will stop if you don’t take too kindly to it. If it’s an especially sweet idea he might just imagine the two of you being in that scenario while neither you nor customers are around.
Will write your ideas down in a small notebook and say that he’s going to sell them. He could, he knows they would go like warm bread rolls, but he won’t do so. Each and every single idea and story of yours is like a small treasure, a memory worth more than any amount of credits in the world. Sometimes he’ll read through his notebook(s) and remember all the scenarios you’ve come up with. Zacharie might try his hand at writing something based on your stories to surprise you with, and he’s not that bad of a writer either, but he doesn’t have too much confidence in himself since he thinks he won’t ever be as good at it as you, so most of his drafts end up in the trash.
If he can feel that it’s going to be a longer story and the two of you are home, then he will prepare a seat for the two of you, some drinks and, if time allows it, some food as well. Talking for a long time can make you feel parched and hungry and he does value your comfort and well-being over everything else. Plus, if you’re okay with it, he would like to have a nice cuddle session with you as well while you tell him all about your ideas.
This man does not take kindly to you being mean to yourself. He’ll take your hands in his and tell you that there’s absolutely no need to apologise, that he loves listening to you more than anything and that you’re so creative, it would be a waste for you to not share your beautiful ideas with anyone. While he can be sneaky when it comes to talking, knowing very well what to say to make a good bargain, he would never lie to you. Especially not during moments like these.
Vader Eloha:
She absolutely adores your capability of storytelling. She’s a mother, so she knows that coming up with stories can be rather difficult at times, so Eloha can definitely admire that. If you’re fine with it, she would love to have you tell some of your stories to Hugo and her while you eat cookies together and drink some milk, or any other beverage of your choice. Yes, she would prefer you told Hugo only the funny or wholesome ones with a good ending, but if it’s just the two of you, you’re more than welcome to tell her any violent or gorey stories as well, she can take it.
Eloha will sit with you at a table and drink some tea while you tell her all about your newest idea. If you’re smiling while narrating something sweet she, too, will be giving you a gentle smile. Even if you’re frowning or on the verge of tears, she’ll give you comforting words. During the latter, she will, after you’re done, of course, make a suggestion on how to make the story a bit more happy, if not give it a happy ending altogether. In her opinion, everyone deserves one, no matter how rough around the edges they are.
The Queen is pretty good at drawing stuff, so, if she ever finds the time, she might draw a scene or two from one of your stories or ideas and give the finished piece to you. Giving her a hug or a sweet kiss will only inspire her to do so more often. The more descriptive you are, the more details she will encompass while making her art. In fact, if you’re down for it, the two of you could always just sit together while you tell your story or idea and she will draw it at the same time. You could create a picture story together like that!
If you ever apologise to her, she will simply embrace you ever so gently and give you a kiss on the forehead or crown of your head, telling you that it’s alright. She loves listening to anything you have to say and will repeat such as often as you need to hear it. If you ever need reaffirmation that it’s okay, she’ll start asking questions and show even more interest in all your creativity, showing you even more support than before. Eloha just wants you to be as happy and comfortable as you could possibly be.
