this one's an interesting skill. according to a quick google search, lamarck was a naturalist in the early 1800s who proposed an early, but flawed, model of evolution. he suggested that organisms who changed their behavior would induce heritable physical changes as a result of that behavior. the example given was a giraffe reaching its neck upward to eat leaves. as the giraffe used its neck more, its neck would become longer, and the longer neck would be passed down to offspring. (obviously, this is a flawed idea of how evolution works, but he was on the right track.)

skills are often small "stories" in orv. it's quite interesting, therefore, that an outdated theory of evolution would be a skill here. I suppose the theory could be considered a story on its own. additionally, it is INTERESTING that the "evolution" the skill creates is one where someone can absorb fragments of someone else's stories. rather than "an organ developed by an ancestor's behavior being passed down to offspring" the skill reflects "a story (body part) developed by someone else's actions being absorbed into the story (body) of someone who consumes it." same transmission of organs through effort, but with an entirely different relationship between the person who developed the story and the person who inherits it.

I’ve been thinking about Chaos’ prosthetics and what parts are good and what parts suck. I think the pros are great movement and reaction speed. They’re really light since they’re godforged and levitate. But the mental strain of using them probably sucks so fucking much. I wanted and excuse for them to not always be using them that was less they hurt to use and more they’re just uncomfortable. I think the implants they’re connected to are probably pretty painless despite looking a bit gnarly. Mainly I didn’t wanna use the excuse of the prosthetics being made by a god to be an excuse for them to just work perfectly. Chaos solves the strain by often only using one arm at a time because using both makes it worse.

The optics in their eyes were a request rather than a necessity. Mechanus made them so Chaos could actually see magic to somewhat match other demigods’ ability to sense it. I think it’s probably kinda like synesthesia but like if it was actually optical. I don’t think there’s any drawback for them because it’s something simple enough there wouldn’t be.

VERY IMPORTANT a dam in the Netherlands, the weerdsluis lock, is directly on a migratory path for spawning fish. They have a worker stationed there to open the door for the fish, but they can take a while to open it. So to keep the fish from getting preyed on by birds they installed a doorbell. Only, the fish don't have hands to ring the doorbell. If you go to their website, they have a LIVE CAMERA AND A DOORBELL that YOU RING FOR THE FISH when they're waiting, and then the dam worker opens the door for them! I can't express how obsessed I am with this. look at this shit. oh my god.

Please check on the fish doorbell once in a while :)

Sometimes when people on the Internet are like "ADULTS CAN NEVER INTERACT WITH MINORS IT'S CREEPY" I remember how, at 12, back in 1997, I was on the Witchvox forums with people ranging from me to people in at least their 50s, and no one there was ever a creep to me, no one ever made me feel uncomfortable or asked for my personal info, and when I finally broke down after a particularly brutal day of bullying at school and posted about it they were the first adults I'd ever met in my entire life who told me the bullies were the problem and it was okay to be angry about it.

Kids need to interact with adults who will listen to them.
