Damian doesn’t like fish.
He tolerates the meat that is served at the manor most nights, even though it sits heavily and unpleasantly in his stomach. He puts up with Shepherd’s pie and spaghetti bolognaise and pork ribs, because the others seem to love it, singing praises for Alfred’s cooking every night, and Damian doesn’t want to appear ungrateful, or unusual, or out of place.
Then one night Alfred makes steamed fish, cooked in lemongrass and ginger, drizzled with soy sauce.
“I’ve noticed you don’t exactly enjoy our usual meals,” he says, and before Damian can protest, continues, “I looked up this recipe for you, I hope you’ll like it.”
Damian doesn’t like fish.
“Thank you,” he says, and then eats every bite. Alfred seems genuinely pleased and it fills him with warmth, which makes up for the way his stomach curled at the unpleasant texture.
Damian learnt to cook at a young age.
He was always busy, with lessons and training, his grandfather always pushing him to do more, to do better. Sometimes in the evening, however, he would follow his mother to the kitchen, where she would chop onions, fry spices in oil, and roll out rotis, getting flour in her pinned-back hair.
“Why do you cook?” he asked her, “You don’t have to.”
His mother laughed. “I like to,” she said, “Do you want to try rolling the roti?”
His first attempt came out uneven and oddly pentagonal, nothing like the perfect circles his mother made. She still ate it, and told him that it was the best roti she’d ever had.
Damian learnt to cook at a young age.
He also learnt that love was when someone made you a food you didn’t like and you ate it anyways and loved it, because you loved them.
His mother came back from Delhi once and brought him jalebis. “They were your favourite when you were younger,” she said.
Damian was eight now, and didn’t like the heavy, syrupy sweetness of jalebis anymore. But his mother was holding the gold-patterned box that she’d brought just for him, her hand resting gently in his hair, and he could feel a warmth rising up inside him, feeling like it would choke him if it got too big. He would have eaten a thousand jalebis to feel like this all the time.
Damian doesn’t understand a lot of things.
“Sorry I’m late, Alfred,” Richard says breathlessly. “I brought ice cream?”
Damian doesn’t hear Alfred’s reply, but it makes Richard laugh. There are footsteps, and then Richard enters the living room where they’ve all gathered, looking wind-blown and ruffled but delighted to see all his siblings together. Damian knows how rare it is for all of them to gather in the manor, and he appreciates the opportunity to spend time with his family.
“What kind of ice cream did you get?” Drake asks.
“Mint chocolate chip,” Richard replies, and there’s a general cheer of appreciation through the room.
“My favourite,” Stephanie declares.
Richard grins, and comes around the sofa to give her a hug from behind. “That’s why I got it.”
Damian hates mint chocolate chip. He’d told Richard that once, when they were up on a rooftop after a night of patrol, expressing his disgust for the mismatched flavours at great length while Richard laughed. “How could anyone hate mint chocolate chip?” he’d asked with an exaggerated gasp of offence, but he’d seemed amused.
Damian loves Richard more than he’s loved anyone in his life. If Richard brings him mint chocolate chip ice cream, then Damian will love it too.
Alfred comes into the room with a tray laden with bowls, each filled with that brown-speckled green concoction. Damian waits for his, but when Alfred reaches him, he unearths a bowl of vanilla and hands that to Damian instead.
Damian stares at it. He’s so surprised that he barely remembers to thank Alfred.
“I got vanilla for you,” Richard tells him, as he settles into the couch next to him with a contented sigh. He grins. “I remember how much you hate mint chocolate chip.”
Damian doesn’t understand a lot of things.
He knows the way Richard’s arm curls around his shoulders, however, and the way his grip tightens slightly as Damian leans into him, watching the others bicker over what movie they’re watching. Damian eats his vanilla ice cream, that Richard got specifically for him, and feels that familiar warmth.
It feels like love.

Red Ties
Chapter 20
Mary, a sweet Christian girl living in the city of Brooklyn as a nurse had a simple life. She loved her work, her friends and attending church every Sunday and helping Reverend McCarthy. Her life was nothing out of the ordinary. However, it all changed one day when she bumps into the intriguing and intimidating James Barnes, Brooklyn’s notorious mafia boss and is introduced to a world of guns, lust and dominance.

The day started off with a hot, steamy shower. James turned on the hot water, the shower hitting the right temperature instantly, and he pulled Mary inside, hearing a slight yelp from her from the suddenness of his pull. The steam covered the shower door, concealing what was going on behind it. The hot water trickled down their bodies, their skin heating up instantly. James cupped Mary's face, kissing her deeply and slowly. The sounds of his kisses could just be heard over the water, and her moans were almost breathless. His hands roamed her body, touching every inch of her. She clung to him, folding her hands over his neck, despite him being taller than her, and her head fell back as he kissed her deeply.
He lathered her body in soap, the bubbles trickling down her perfect breasts and the sweet smell of oranges and ginger sticking to her body. His blue eyes turned icy in the steamy room, staring down at her with lust.
Oh, how he wanted to push her against the glass door and fuck her brains out. But she wasn't ready, and even him just placing his hand on her mound made her jump, but she relaxed soon after. He could feel her getting wet already, and the tingles came running back to her. Mary groaned, her hand creeping down his body, and she found herself grabbing his member. She was shocked at herself, touching his dick, giving into the desire. James groaned, his voice low and rumbling with desire.
It wasn't long before the two of them were moaning in excitement, resting against each other with loud, sloppy kisses. James wrapped her in a big fluffy towel, giving her time to brush her teeth and wash her face while he dressed. When she came out, dressed in the white robe hanging from the back of the door, a towel was rubbing her wet hair. He was buttoning the last button on the cuff of his shirt, throwing the sleeve down so it fitted perfectly. a suit of all black this time with a tie around his neck so tight and perfect. Mary wondered if he ever wore anything other than a suit.
"You must have a lot of suits in your closet," she joked, grabbing her overnight bag and fishing out her outfit. The sun was high in the sky today, so she picked out a cute summer dress with her sneakers. James chuckled, turning to face her after spraying a spritz of colonge on his neck, his rich scent flooding the room.
"I like to dress smart," he shrugged. Not to mention, it gave him that air of dominance that made everyone tremble to their feet.
"You look nice," she smiled.
"So do you," he answered back, and she looked down at her outfit.
"This old thing," she mumbled, and he strode over to her, cupping her cheek and pressing another kiss on her. He could never get bored of doing this; he never got bored of the taste of her sweet lips.
"Let go get some breakfast," he murmured, taking her hand to lead her downstairs. Mary sat patiently at the bar while James cooked them up some breakfast. sourdough bread toasted with bacon, eggs, and a mushroom on top. It was delicious, and as always, Mary said a prayer before breakfast. James watched in awe of her, his smile growing big as he watched her mutter a few sentences before digging into her breakfast. He could never tyre of her doing that, either. It was one of the many traits he liked about her.
"That was delicious; let me help clean up," she offered, reaching over for his plate.
"You don't have to," he assured. He'd probably just leave them and make Steve or Sam clean them up while they were out today, but Mary shook her head.
"No, you always cook for me, and it's only fair I clean up. You stay there," she ordered softly, taking the plates to the sink to wash them. James was in shock, but there was a little part of him that was enjoying this. being waited on hand and foot. It was, of course, his dominant side, enjoying the show of Mary serving him. and so he sat back and watched as she washed up, his eyes wandering to her ass as the dress was just below it.
He had an arragant smirk on his lips as he watched, an arm resting on the other chair beside him as he leaned back, and when Mary turned to grab the last glass, she looked up and caught his expression, stopping in her tracks.
"What?" she giggled.
"Nothing," he murmured, and she scoffed, turning back to the sink. Perhaps it was time to bring up the darker side of him. Maybe she could handle it. But he didn't want to rush it until he was absolutely certain, and the selfish part of him would have to wait.
Once she was finished, she came scuffing around the kitchen table to stand next to him, his hand immediately going to her arm to stroke her softly.
"Thank you for that," he murmured, and she smiled.
"Your welcome," she answered a little cheekily, and he leaned up to peck her again.
James and Mary spent the day in the city. He took her to Central Park, where they brought frozen yoghurt and toured the whole park, talking and listening to each other. James was finally happy to see Mary come out of her shell, and he had never heard her talk so much since he met her. He enjoyed listening to her, hearing about her family and her brother with his family. In fact, he barely did any talking as he walked and listened to her.
He was generous enough to buy her a fresh juice cup from a small stand. The day was so hot, and he didn't want her dehydrated and collapsing on the floor. It was a perfect day, and Mary was starting to feel stricken with love.
Later that evening, James took her back to the mansion, where she changed into her work clothes, and he drove them to Yori's home.
"He might get a bit grouchy, but don't worry; he's always like that," he warned her, and Mary nodded.
"I'm used to it," she said, shrugging, and James chuckled.
"He'll probably insist that he doesn't need any help, but see what you think," he said.
They arrived at the complex, and Mary hitched her bag over her shoulder as James led her inside, his hand resting on the small of her back. They decided to check on Yori first before he threw a tantrum at James. He knocked on the door, with Mary waiting patiently behind him, and the door was pulled open. Yori looked up to meet James's eyes, furrowing his brows.
"What are you doing here? You don't normally come on Thursday," he wondered, and James stepped a little out of line so Mary could be seen. Yori looked over to the young woman and then back at James before grumbling and quickly trying to slam the door. He knew exactly why he was here. The nurse uniform said everything. Before he could slam the door shut, James stuck his arm against the door and shoved it open.
"Just wait a minute," James asked, pushing himself inside and bringing Mary in with him. Yori grumbled something under his breath, storming over to his chair.
"I don't need anyone coming and getting involved," he said angrily, and James sighed. Mary wasn't sure what to say and decided to let James handle it.
"Yori, this is Mary, the girl I was telling you about," James said.
"Hi," Mary greeted sweetly, and Yori looked up, looking between Mary and James, and suddenly a smile grew on his lips.
"Oh," he grinned harder, looking over to James again.
"This is her," he said for conformation, and James nodded. Mary looked a little confused but brushed a piece of hair behind her ear before stepping forward.
"James has told me so much about you." Well, that was a lie, really; he hadn't said much, and Yori laughed.
"I'm sure he has, and I suppose he told you I need help." Mary bit her bottom lip, unsure how to move forward, but Yori reached out a hand for hers.
"I'm perfectly fine; this guy seems to think I can't look after myself," James scoffed, crossing his arms and crossing his chest.
"That's because you can't; I told her about your fall." He said it like a child snitching on their little brother or sister, and Yori shook his head.
"I'm fine," he smiled.
"Can I just have a look and make sure your arm is okay? I don't want there to be any injuries that could get worse," she asked politely, and he grudgingly nodded. Mary sat in the chair beside him, rolling up his sleeve on his jumper, and looked over his arm. James watched as she gently turned his arm. She was very thorough in her inspection, and to her, everything seemed okay.
"It looks okay to me; there is nothing that I can see. How did it happen?" she asked.
"He didn't take his meds," James interjected before Yori could answer.
"No, I tripped on the rug," Yori aruged back. Mary wanted to giggle at the two grown men acting like children, arguing with each other like two brothers would in front of their mother.
"Bullshit, I told you he doesn't take his meds." James waved a hand in the air, and Yori grumbled again.
"Yes, I do," Yori answered quickly, and Mary interrupted before it could become more heated.
"Okay, look, I can't force you to have someone come and check on you now and then, and if you really don't want that, it's fine, but I'm always here if you need someone, and I'll give you my number, so if you need anything, you can just call me." Mary wrote her name on a small pad of paper on Yoris' coffee table. Yori thanked her kindly, grateful for the number.
"So, what's it like being with Mr. Macho?" Yori smirked, leaning forward slightly, and James huffed, rolling his eyes. Mary giggled, looking over at James as he turned slightly, as if he were trying to hide away. Mary hadn't expressed her feelings for him yet, certainly not in front of anyone else. But she wasn't going to lie or keep herself from telling the truth. The truth is that since she met James, her body tingled every time they were together, her cheeks flushed red, and her smile never left her face.
"He's definitely a gentleman," she said, and James smirked, looking down at his feet before his dark blue eyes flickered up to meet hers. Secretly, he was enjoying the compliments, and Yori hummed.
"You'll have to wait until he's cranky; he's not so much a gentleman then."
"I think we should get going now; Mary has other people to see," James interrupted, pulling her from the seat. The last thing he needed was Yori blabbing out any secrets he had kept from Mary so far.
"It was lovely to meet you, and please don't hesitate to call me if you need anyone," she urged as Yori pushed himself up from the chair.
"I'll be fine, dear," he nodded, waddling over to the front door to let them out. James gave him a hug, whispering something into his ear and pulling back with a smile.
"I'll see you next week," he said over his shoulder as he entered the hallway with Mary, shutting the door behind him.
"He's nice; he wasn't that grumpy," she shrugged as James placed his arm over her shoulder.
"That's because you were there; if it were just me, it would be a different story," he said, looking down at her, his blue eyes dazzling with lust and love.
"Well, get ready, because you're about to meet his enemy," she said as they came to another door down the hallway.

There a type of restuarant call ran-ahan tam sang (ร้านอาหารตามสั่ง) (Cooked to order resturant?) which is basically everywhere and this is a basic almost every those restuarant will have.
Rice top with fried basil
Fried rice
Stir Fried Vegetables with Rice
Garlic Pork with Rice
Stir Fried Chili Paste
Thai Styled Sukiyaki (water/dry)
You can select the type of meat yourself, even if the name includes the word "pork," (it's just a place holder) and you can add extra meat (more of the one you select or something else) or eggs if desired.
Eating utensils
The most common choice are just a spoon and fork. In places like noodle shops, it usually has chopsticks as well. and for steak, a knife.

Here is my takeaway box of Economy Rice (菜饭) with celery stir-fry, ginger pork slices and steamed fish fillet drizzled with shallots and ginger oil over white rice. I know in Southeast Asia, economy rice stalls are aplenty, so you never really have to cook at home if one doesn’t want to. Does your country have such stalls?

Hello talviel! How do the cuisines of the Morrowind great houses vary from another? does ashlander cuisine vary from house dunmer cuisine?
House Redoran
Redoran cooking is slightly heartier, featuring dishes like Hound and Rat pie or Crab Meat and Scuttle. As a major force on Raven Rock, Redoran cuisine places a lot of emphasis on easily available ingredients, such as fish, horker, and ash yams as opposed to the more traditional varied ingredients of mainland Morrowind. Mudcrab and fish stew with saltrice, ash yam and kwama egg fritters, and horker roast with comberry jam and fried ash yams are some of the dishes you'll find dining with a Redoran.
House Telvanni
House Telvanni is known for its exquisite cuisine based around nourishing herbs and roots. Infused with all sorts of alchemy I'm not privy to (and never will be), every Telvanni kitchen boasts whole cupboards of mysterious spices and herbs with special flavours and properties. Double-boiled gingko chicken soup, nix-hound braised with dried comberries and ginseng, and saltrice congee with sliced fish and pickled ginger are typical dishes you'll find in mushroom towers. Canis Root Tea adds a nice touch to any Telvanni meal too, especially with a bit of sweet marshmerrow!
House Hlaalu
Hlaalu food is always satisfying, and utilises more foreign ingredients than other Houses due to their success in trade. While staple meats and vegetables like nix-hound and hackle-lo are still on the table, Hlaalus are just as likely to have goat or even beef. Dishes would include kwama egg pie with a butter (as opposed to scuttle) crust, fried saltrice with pork and Hammerfell spices, and braised abalone and hackle-lo in Pellitine oyster sauce. And of course, Balmora Cabbage Biscuits, stuffed with nix-hound and spiced cabbage, are the ideal Hlaalu travel snack.
House Indoril
Standard fare for House Indoril is very much traditional Dunmeri food as we know it, which comes as no surprise due to their political leanings. Based out of Mourhold, the House consumes less seafood than others on coastal or island Morrowind, due to their relatively inland location. Kagouti and guar are the most popular meats, making pulled kagouti stew, guar meatball and scuttle gratin, and steamed scrib cabbage stuffed with minced meat standard fare.
House Dres
As is to be expected, House Dres meals are primarily based on saltrice. Whether it's saltrice crackers, bread, porridge, or straight up steamed saltrice, this is the House that has figured out everything imaginable that you can do with the plant. Fried saltrice with crispy scrib, saltrice soup with ash yams and trama root, and kwama egg omelette stuffed with spiced saltrice are delicious meals you'll find as a guest at any Dres farm.
And while it shouldn't be mentioned, it should anyway. You can read more about Sixth House cuisine here.
You can also read about Ashlander cuisine on p. 20-23 of my compendium.

Excerpt: The Hands That Wield the Sword
And it truly was a feast. What would be multiple courses in a more Hylian setting was presented all at once on the Zora’s table. Sidon give Link the name of each dish as they pass it, happily placing however much of it the Hylian wants onto his plate (his first plate, anyway. Sidon quickly went to grab another when it was full.) Many of the dishes had names in Hylian, but the prince was eager to share what they were called in the Zora tongue as well and enthusiastically offered to learn their signs in the Zora Sign Language, as well as Hylian Common Sign.
On the table set in silver or stone bowls are foods Link had never seen. Hineska’ Agaga’, the Hylian rice dyed red with achote seeds, spiced with onion, garlic, and a hot pork sausage Sidon called chorizo; salads made of cucumbers and daigu’ radishes pickling in a bowl of soy sauce and lemon juice sitting beside a plate of stir fried bok choy, Hylian shrooms, and spicy peppers. The smell of hot frying oil filled his senses as they passed the fried vegetable lumpia, its rice paper wrapping dark brown and sizzling. A few bońelos uhang, small, pan-fried cakes of shrimp and vegetables sat next to the lumpia and red rice creating a small wall between it and savory breadfruit swimming in fresh coconut milk. Link recognizes the smell of kelaguen and tityas from the meal Kodah and Kayden gave him the morning before, but Sidon explains that this is kelaguen månnok, made with poultry rather than seafood. Its spicy aroma sent Link’s mouth tingling, the taste of sharp lemon, crisp spice, and fresh, earthy niyok coming back to him joyfully.
The “entrees,” as they would be called on Hylian tables, comprised of pansit bihon månnok; clear, thin rice noodles dressed brown with fish and oyster sauce, tossed together with sautéed snow peas, poultry, carrots, and bamboo shoots, topped with bright white, crunchy bean sprouts and lime juice. There was fresh, seared sizzelfin trout encrusted with sesame seeds that fell apart beautifully when you took a bite, the sesame seeds adding a delicious texture to the soft fish. Tender grilled pork spareribs sprinkled with only pink rock salt and course pepper sat at the end of the line followed by three small bowls of desserts, which, once they finally came into view, made Link’s eyes widen in excitement. In one sat steamed sweet niyok and cassava, its smell bringing a sense of freshness and cleanliness after the line of strong, savory dishes. Sidon has to turn Link away from the baked pumpkin empanadas (påstets) and crumbly inafliton roset cookies before he could stuff them in his mouth, promising that he will bring them once they sit.
At their place settings are cups of fresh water and an earthenware pot of lemon ginger tea. Link, a master of restraint, waits for Sidon to finish making his own plate and sit down before he explores the vast richness in front of him.
