#Sokka hc
Note
random hc but i feel like sokka can sing his ass off. like that man has a voice of an angel. he can hit all sorts of notes. like mariah carey type shit. but he plays too damn much. like it takes a miracle to catch that man singing seriously. he will start singing and mess up on purpose. and it really pissing his friends off bc they want him to sing seriously 😭
(and somewhere in a modern world, sokka and zuko is a singing + rapping duo bc ik zuko can rap like hell🤞🏾)
omg so sorry it took me like five years to answer this but OMGGSHJSUIUISKU.
why am I obsessed with this???? like this is honestly something I can see Sokka doing esp with his whole ‘harrumph harrumph I must be masculine and strong man so strong men don’t sing good grrrr’ complex.
also yes @ Sokka switching up when his friends are around… like my dad does this (for context he has a REALLY good voice and he CAN sing but he purposefully goes flat and off key and it drives my family insane 😭).
this also makes me want to add that when someone invents showers (probably Sokka tbh) he’d be singing in it and having a whole eras tour concert and Zuko (who up until now was 100% convinced that Sokka couldn’t sing to save his life) happened to walk past without Sokka noticing and he’s just like:
Tumblr media
he doesn’t tell anyone but now he’s just sat there confused as hell bc why did Sokka sing badly on purpose?? wasn’t that embarrassing??
oh and now I’m just stuck with the image of Zuko being roped into a rap battle in a modern au and no one expecting him to be any good because he’s awkward and not the type but then he just whips out this whole freestyle verse n everyone’s like:??????
(Also Zuko refuses to do it again except for when Sokka drags him into it when they’re hanging out)

Could you write a Sokka x firebender reader that has the plot of the secret tunnel episode but instead of aang and katara getting stuck together it’s him and reader? :)
Don’t Let the Cave In Get You Down
a/n: got two requests for this sokka storyline and i was very excited to write it! i couldn’t find a way to seamlessly include the fire bending part of the request but i could definitely build on that in another piece. hope you enjoy <3
Tumblr media
you met the Gaang when they were passing through a small trading village on the outskirts of the Earth Kingdom
they were low on supplies and in need of a shopping spree, so they stopped at your little food stand in search of fresh fruit and snacks for their travels
you seemed awfully young to have your own business, especially when compared to the other merchants, but you were kind and your prices were affordable
their shopping spree was cut short by the arrival of fire nation soldiers, but you quickly escorted them through the backstreets of the marketplace and helped them evade the soldiers
“That was a close call,” Aang breathed out in relief, “thanks for your help.”
“Those guys are jerks, I couldn’t live with myself if I had just let them capture you.”
“Who are you?” Katara asked in awe.
“My name is y/n, and I’ve been hiding out in this village for about three years now. I escaped from the Fire Nation when I was 12 and never looked back.”
“Wait a minute, Fire Nation?!” Sokka exclaimed before quickly pushing his sister and Aang behind him. Raising his boomerang in a threatening manor, he narrowed his eyes at you. “Is this some kind of trick?! Did you just lure us out here so you could capture Aang and get the reward for yourself?”
“Sokka, you’re being ridiculous!” Katara had scolded angrily, harshly pushing his boomerang away. “She said herself she came here to get away from the Fire Nation, I’m sure she’s just trying to make a better life for herself here and you’re not making that any easier for her by being a jerk!”
“I don’t trust her, Katara!”
You’re a little disheartened by the disdain in his voice when he speaks about you, and despite Katara vouching for you you can see that you’re out of place
“I’m sorry, I’ve made things awkward,” you apologized sheepishly, “I’ll leave you now.”
“Wait!” Aang called, stopping you from going. “If what you said is true then… then I think you should come with us.”
“Tell me you’re joking,” Sokka scoffed in disbelief
“If she’s from the Fire Nation then she must have knowledge about the ins and outs of that place. Maybe she can even help me find a fire bending master. We need her help, Sokka.”
Though he was reluctant and very distrusting of you, Sokka realized Aang was right, so he begrudgingly allowed the airbender to welcome you to their team
You agreed to help as much as you can, and the rest was history
From there on out you’re officially a member of Team Avatar, but that doesn’t mean Sokka becomes any more trusting of you
He always keeps a suspicious eye on you, never letting you help with tasks he deems too important to avoid having you “sabotage” the group
His lack of trust in you hurts, you can’t lie about that, but you continue to do what you can to aid the Avatar and his friends and earn their trust
Of course, this all changes when you get to the cave of two lovers
Unlike Sokka, you found Chong and his group of Nomads to be great fun. They’d braided your hair beautifully with flowers from the lake and performed wonderful songs, so despite your predicament you were in a cheerful mood
Being stuck in the cave had put a strain on your group’s mission to make it to Omashu, but you tried to remain hopeful and help as best as you can
Surprisingly, Sokka even puts you in charge of holding one of the torches
“I’m only giving this to you because I know you’re at least smart enough not to waste resources while we’re in here.”
It’s a start
And it’s a good thing he gave you that torch, because it comes in handy when you both end up getting separated from the rest of the group
“This is just great,” Sokka utters sarcastically after several failed attempts to dig through the rock and get back to the others.
“Come on, Sokka, lighten up. We have a torch and your map, I’m sure we’ll be able to figure something out,” you try to console. “What did Chong say earlier? ‘Don’t let the cave in get you down, Sokka.’”
He’s not amused by your singing
It’s a bit awkward being stuck with the boy who’s been so adamant that you don’t belong despite your best efforts to prove that you can be trusted
You don’t speak much and try to stay out of his way and follow his lead, but the tunnels keep changing and you keep getting lost and your torch is about to burn out, so things are beginning to seem hopeless
“Maybe we should try changing our strategy,” you offer only for Sokka to immediately dismiss you.
“Right, like I’m going to let you lead us through the cave. You’ll probably make us get lost on purpose.”
“You know, if you stopped being so judgmental for a second you’d probably realize that i want to get out of this cave just as much as you do!” You snap irritably, surprising Sokka. you’ve mostly stayed docile to try and keep the peace whenever Sokka accuses you of being untrustworthy, but at this point you’re finally starting to get fed up
“You’re right, I’m sorry,” he says softly, and this time you’re the one who’s surprised. You never thought he’d actually apologize to you, and it’s a nice feeling. “What do you suggest we do?”
“Well,” you start with a sigh, “maybe the story is right. Maybe if we trust in love, we’ll find our way out of here.”
“You’re joking, right?”
“Do you have any better ideas?”
You simply shrug, prompting Sokka to let out a heavy sigh. Your torch is going to run out soon, and his map isn’t doing anyone any favors. It seems you have no choice
“How exactly do we trust in love?”
“I’m not sure… the only love I know is the love I had from my parents, but I haven’t felt it in so long… I’m not sure I ever will again.”
“…What happened to them?”
“My parents were peasants with nothing but love to give each other. They were poor, but they were happy,” you explain with a faint smile. “My father was a fire bender, but he kept his gift hidden in fear he’d be forced to serve in the Fire Nation army. He didn’t want to leave me or my mother, but our home was attacked, and he had no choice but to bend to protect us. Our lives were saved, but he was taken away.”
Sokka hangs on to your every word, eyes glistening with unshed tears and sympathy. Your story is similar to his own, and he knows what it’s like to lose your family to the Fire Nation. He feels less disdain towards you now, more empathetic. He still isn’t 100% sure how to feel about you, but hearing your story makes you easier to understand now
“My mother knew I’d never be safe or happy if I stayed there, so she arranged for me to be smuggled out of the Fire Nation and brought to the trading village you first met me in. I haven’t seen or heard from her since, and I’m not even sure if she or my father are even alive.”
“I’m sorry,” Sokka utters solemnly. “Katara and I lost our mother to the Fire Nation, and we haven’t seen our father since he left to fight in the war. I know how you feel.”
“I don’t want to be Fire Nation, you know. None of this was a choice, and I understand why you don’t trust me but I’m not like them Sokka. Please believe me.”
“I’m sorry for always giving you such a hard time. It’s just… it’s hard to believe people from the Fire Nation can actually be good. But you’ve proven that you can be trusted over and over again, I was just too blind to see it.”
“Can we start over?” He asks with a sheepish smile, carefully sticking his hand out for you to shake. Instead, you push his hand away and throw your arms around him in a tight embrace.
The force of your hug knocks him back a bit, and though he’s unsure at first, he eventually returns your embrace by carefully wrapping his arms around your figure
The fire of your torch slowly begins to die, but neither of you seem to notice or care as you enjoy your moment together
You expect to be engulfed in darkness when the flame goes out, but instead you’re met with the beautiful shimmers of the crystals that line the roofs of the cave
“It’s so beautiful,” you murmur in awe, your eyes sparkling under the light
“Yeah,” your counterpart utters quietly, but he isn’t looking at the crystals
“Was she always this pretty?” Sokka wondered to himself
Together, you’re eventually able to follow the crystals and make your way out of the cave
And when you leave the cave, hands woven tightly together, you leave as two completely new people
You understand each other now, you trust each other
And your relationship will only continue to grow stronger from then on out

"wait why does only Sokka get to be chief of the SWT but not Katara :/" see but what you're missing is the fact that its never said she WASNT... in addition to Sokka...
like what I'm saying is its canonically an elected position and you're all sleeping on the very funny and entirely plausible concept that they did in fact run against each other in an election ...

SOKKA from AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
JUSTIFICATION:
"The most obvious smoking gun is the Kyoshi Warriors episode - she is clearly oppositional to the concept of being able to be both a warrior and a woman, a dichotomy she attempts to maintain even outside of the misogynistic framing, until she is directly made to alter her cognitions by Suki, at which point she is visibly shaken in the group shots of her on Appa and so on for the rest of the episode - she is also still in the Kyoshi garb. This, I think, is because she is so invested in being the Last Man left in the Water Tribe, there to protect them all, and the prospect that she can still do that whilst also *being a girl* is terrifying to her, as it is to, like, a lot of girls when they start thinking about transition!
But throughout the show there is a persistent theme of Sokka feeling obliged to perform masculinity - the trial with Batu, the way she approaches Piandao's whole deal and then confesses she has mislead him; when Piandao says "you are more worthy than ANY man I have ever trained" Sokka has a little freakout and confesses to having "tricked" Piandao. She is crippled by the terror that she will never be good enough to make her dad proud, due to some indefinable internal flaw? It is just all very familiar as a trans girl narrative, I think." - @veteranmortal

im obsessed with the thought of jet and zuko (who are definitely dating but haven't said so yet) meeting the gaang in ba sing se and zuko is talking to sokka about his boomerang or something and getting along with him bc you know they're made to be besties and jet gets jealous and tells zuko to stop flirting with sokka but zuko just tells him that flirting with the water tribe is more jet's thing which shuts him up very fast

One of my favorite silly zukka hcs is that Zuko has always been a bit of a prissy eater and hates the feeling of greasy hands so it was a constant form of mild torture during a lot of s2-3 when he has to touch his food instead of using chopsticks.
Meanwhile, for the same two seasons he looks at Sokka who often somehow managed to get rice stuck on his earlobe or a slick of fat on his arm and, even after unlearning the whole "water tribe are savages" thing, Zuko struggles to ramp down his revulsion.
And then, after the worst ripples of Fire Nation losing, the gaang sits down to a diplomatic dinner as a representation of the Avatar or something that requires them to have a Very Serious Event, and Zuko finds out that Sokka has the ability to out priss him with chopsticks.

Hc that both Sokka and Mai would be BEASTS at pool. Like those two??? With their aim??? Absolutely destroying the competition and subtly showing out with tricks while they’re at it
The Gaang has a rule stating that Sokka and Mai are no longer allowed to play pool on a team together because it’s mean and unfair. Sokka just calls them sore losers and Mai gives a cold cold glare

GLAD TO BE BACK :D.
this hc applies to the 90s hc but it can apply any other au. i mentioned this on discord before but this one shall be shared.
zuko, mai, and suki speak japanese due to it being their native language. zuko & mai learned english together but mai was taking a little bit longer to settle in. suki was used to tourists coming around often so she started to pick on some terms.
while they were fluent in english, they still needed help on some stuff and they have sokka being their handy dandy translator. sometimes they still confuse their l's and r's.
they'll see a sentence or a word with way too many l's and they'll just slide it over to sokka. "so you guys can say insults left and right but you can't pronounce alligator???" but he does end up helping them tho.
sokka will let out a little snicker like him and katara don't skip articles like a stone on water. they got shown the word 'phenomenon' and 'onomatopoeia'. they just shut down.
tbh, i could a whole essay on the atla characters and their beef with english 😭
YOU HAVE ME HOWWLLINGGGG THIS IS AMAZING 😭😭😭 no but honestly this feels so real especially the sokka being the translator and being all snarky but then looking the other way when he sees a word like ‘worcestershire’. I’m so glad you gave this to the people bc the people deserved this hc. anyway neeed to mention that I can picture Toph watching this bullshit go down, and bc she’s still in her ‘I hate english’ era (real) she doesn’t tell anyone that zuko helped her so when sokka is trying to get Suki or mai to say a word Toph just casually says it perfectly and then sokka is just on her lying ass like: YOU REFUSED TO LEARN?? I THOUGHT YOU HATED ENGLISH??
and Toph is just like: it’s an easy word 🤷
sokka is just too tired for her bullshit and zuko is sitting there smiling like a demon

Do you have any really specific and/or personal Zukka headcanons that you’d be okay with sharing? I eat up every hc you put into your drawings like they’re candy, I was wondering if you had any others :D :D
OH boii i sure have,,, nothing coherent is coming to mind atm so ill just expose my Extensive backstories of zukka bethrotal armbands that idk if i will find a way to sneak into art.
sokka’s armband for zuko is forged back at Piandao’s mansion, and it's one of the most fine stunning pieces of jewelry ever crafted. it’s not the usual southern ivory but metal, more similar to the armbands worn as an accessory in the fire nation. it’s made of intertwining bands of gold and black meteor metal, with patterns of waves and dragon scales that seem to ripple and move when the light catches on them just right. and the pendant is a traditional blue stone from the swt.
There are no particular engagement gifts traditions in the fn, so zuko goes on a deep dive into southern water tribe ones, asking sokka’s family and friends about jewelry making and learning to engrave over the course of several trips to the swt. He makes sokka’s armband with ivory from his own first (successful) solo hunt. i’m not sure abt the material of the pendant lmao maybe gold? but amber would also be cool methinks
as for the pendant engraving they display a unique single braincell moment (untrue i just want them to match). love the fact that both of them are sea savvy navigators, love to think that in their pining era they spent a lot of time watching the stars and showing each other the different constellations and navigation pointers of their nations, so in both of their armbands’ stones are depicted the constellation used to guide sailors back home, sokka engraving the swt’s one on zuko’s armband and vice versa.
if they were sun’s out guns out kinda guys before this only gets worse during the first weeks of their engagement. shirts are banned. everyone look at the bethrotal armbands NOW.

A Civil Conversation
(Alt. title: Midnight Talks)
Zuko was feeling rather proud of himself. He had done it. He had managed to convince the Avatar to let Zuko teach him firebending. They had given Zuko a chance. Zuko absently poked at the fire with a stick. Though, not everything was ‘sunshines and rainbows’, as his mother would put it. He shuddered when he remembered the Southern Water Tribe girl’s threat.
Hm. Perhaps betraying her was not the best idea.
He’s broken out of his thoughts when he hears footsteps. Zuko tenses; he’s ready to defend himself if Katara has come to deliver on her threat.
“Um… Hi?”
Definitely not waterbender girl. “Hi.” Zuko narrowed his eyes at the newcomer. “Are you coming to make threats at me?”
Water Tribe boy chuckled. “Nah. I think my sister’s already taken care of that, don’t you think?”
“How…?”
“I saw her walking out of your room with a grin, and when I asked her what she did, she said the whole story. So, no, I’m not gonna bother you with threats of extreme bodily harm.”
“Um. Thanks…?” Zuko said hesitantly. The boy gave a shrug in response. “May I ask why you have come to visit me?”
“Wow, so formal,” The non-bender snorted, “I just wanted to ask you some things, since, you know, I didn’t have much time before.”
“Alright,” Zuko said, nodding, “Ask away.”
The other boy plopped down beside Zuko. “You’re the Blue Spirit?”
“I-uh…” Zuko blinked in surprise. Out of all the questions the non-bender could’ve asked, Zuko was not expecting this. “Yes. Yes, I am.”
“Oh! Cool!” Exclaimed the younger boy. “We’ve seen the Blue Spirit in posters and whispers around Fire Nation towns, you know.”
Zuko bowed his head. “Thanks, I guess, but how did you know?”
“Aang told us.”
The Avatar. His name was Aang. Zuko filed away the 12 year old’s name for later use. “Oh. I see.”
“So…” The boy in blue swung his feet like a child. “If it’s, um, not too personal, why’d you leave?”
“I…” Zuko paused, thinking about his answer. “Something felt wrong, I suppose. There was something missing that I knew the palace, my home could not provide. I felt discontent. But now…” Zuko trailed off.
“Now…?” Water Tribe boy pressed, curious.
“I feel more complete.”
The fifteen year old boy smiled. “Good for you, then.”
“Thanks.”
“So!” The non-bender said, clapping his hands together. “About you joining the team…”
“I won’t betray you, I promise,” Zuko blurted, “I know I betrayed you before, but I was unstable, but now–”
“Ah, ah, ah,”  The blue eyed boy shushed him, “It’s not about that. I think we can trust you, for the most part. What I am saying, though, is that if you are to join this group, you need to know about the members, hmm?”
“Oh. Right.”
The boy beside Zuko offered him a grin. “Let’s start with me! You know I’m from the Southern Water Tribe, and I’m fifteen!”
“You’re a year younger than me.” Zuko noted.
“Mhm!” The boy continued chattering, talking about his life in the Southern Water Tribe. Zuko eventually relaxed and they fell into a conversation, comparing each others lives, searching for similarities to bond over.
Finally, the Water Tribe boy glanced at the sky. “I should go to bed now…” He said quietly. He smiled. “It was nice talking to you, Zuko.”
“You too, um…” Zuko mentally smacked himself for not asking for the boy’s name. He had always called the members of the Avatar's group certain names in his head, such as Waterbender, The Avatar, Blind Earthbender, and Boomerang Boy. Said boy, however, laughed it off.
“Sokka,” He told Zuko, “It’s Sokka.”
“Good night, Sokka.”
“Good night, Zuko.”
Yes, joining Avatar Aang's group was a wonderful idea.
~*~
lol happy (early?) new year everyone!! finally got out of my writer's block and artist's block (if that's a thing ofc) just in time hehe hope you have a great 2024! <3 - basil dela cruz
(P.S: i love the idea that zuko has no idea what the gaang's real names are, so he made up nicknames. it's so silly and i simply adore it <3333)

wrote a lil Zukki week ficlet for either day 1 (domesticity) or a silly take on day 6 (political complications).
475 words, comedy + fluff, Zukki, pregnancy
“How would you raise a child, if you had one?” Suki says. She’s laying in between Zuko and Sokka, and as she says it, she turns her head lazily to look at Sokka.
“Dunno,” he says, shifting so his arm can continue to be her pillow even as he idly strokes Zuko’s hair. They're wearing two pairs of pants and two tops between them, and it's a lazy afternoon indeed. “I'd raise them Water Tribe, I guess. Teach them to fish. Take them ice dodging. But I'd make sure we traveled, too. Gotta see the world.”
“What about you, Zuko?” Suki turns to her other side.
“Uh, they'd be a palace kid, I guess,” Zuko says. “I don't want to raise them like I was raised, but they'd have to learn politics and all that. I'd meditate with them. Teach them to control their flame.”
“Great,” Suki says. “I'm pregnant.”
“WHAT?!”
The men sit up comically quickly on either side of her, staring at her stomach as if they'll see the shape formed by a handful of cells. They're both speaking, voices overlapping, asking if it's real, when she found out, if she's ok.
“I went to the healers earlier today,” she says. “They say I'm about a month along.”
“That's incredible,” Sokka says, grabbing her hand, but Suki turns to see Zuko looking stressed enough to start sparking.
“Zu?”
“Whose is it?”
“What?” Suki says.
“I mean, what'll we tell the Fire Sages? If the kid’s a firebender, of course, they'll need to be my heir— but if they're not mine biologically. Agni, if they're Water and Earth— what if they're a water bender! They can't be the heir to the throne, but there's no way to know— Suki, I'll have to tell the Sages right away—”
Suki grabs him by the shoulder. “Calm down, love, please. What are you saying? If the child is whose?”
“Mine or Sokka's,” Zuko says.
“Zuko. My darling. My fire-lily. My spark.” Sokka takes Zuko’s hands in his, and looks deep into his eyes. “Baby, the kid’s yours.”
“How would we know?”
“I'm trans.”
Zuko turns red so fast he starts steaming. “Oh. Yeah. I knew that.”
“I should hope so,” Sokka says with a snort.
“I'm so stupid,” Zuko mumbles, but Suki just gathers him in a hug as her quiet chuckles fade.
“You've been stressed recently, and this is a big surprise. It's ok.”
“Are you okay with having my heir?” Zuko says tentatively. “I know it's a big thing...”
“Well, are you okay with having a child?”
“Yes. Of course.”
“Then we'll do it. Together.”
“I still want to take them ice dodging,” Sokka cuts in. “And teach them to fish. But I think it's time we moved to the palace. Don't you think, Sukes?”
She nods. “Here's to a new adventure, huh?”
The end.
