8 shows I love to get to know me.
I don’t watch a lot in ways that I connect with personally. So I thought I’d just mostly go through like, things I think are really good to rewatch, some of which I have absorbed into my personality forever
1. Evangelion (nominated for the animation alone. Commentary on a lot of things in anime at the time and then became a product of a lot of those things later Oof. Aesthetic af)
2. Avatar The Last Airbender (solid storytelling)
3. Community (funny sometimes poignant)
4. Fullmetal Alchemist 03 (don’t @ me it stands alone from the manga and Bhood. It created something even better)
5. What We Do in the Shadows (a good and fun time)
6. Empresses in the Palace (classy trash. Not necessarily good but I love it)
7. Mum (amazing TV. Truly)
8. To no-one’s shock - Star Wars Rebels / Clone Wars (look I’m lumping them all into the same star war. They’re fun! They’re emotive! They expand a world into something believable and deep. Andor gets special extra mention because I believe it really elevates the franchise)
Honourable mention: Ice Fantasy for being pure chaos
Tagging some folks but I often don’t do tagged stuff so I won’t be offended if you don’t feel like it
@sassyimperium @tierfal @mistr3ssquickly @astralalmighty @ship-from-shipping-and-receiving anyone who’d like to

so is nobody else aware that L and Light's names are technical opposites of one another?
ok, so, this requires a lot of elaboration, so bear with me here. first thing to clarify is Light's name. without too much deliberation, Japan has this phenomenon (to my western understanding) wherein certain parents will name their children after English words. (this could potentially include other western languages; i am unsure.) as japanese is a syllabary, most of the time, these words cannot actually be pronounced properly in japanese. these names are often also written with presumably completely unrelated characters. light's name is one of these, having to be pronounced as "raito" in japanese, and written (as he so kindly explains to naomi) with "tsuki," the character for "moon." these names are called "kira-kira names." i am not joking. (that L never made a joke about light's name being literally a "kira-kira" name leaves me with a harrowingly destitute void in my soul.)
last thing we need to do is look at the translation for "Yagami," which approximates (to my knowledge!) as meaning "high," as in "high in power" (not "high" as in "stoned," because that's probably more like L's thing).
so, if we take an extrapolation of this, and replace light's names with their written functions—his forename as being a kira-kira name and being written as moon, and his surname (depending on how it's written) meaning "high"—we can evaluate an interpretation of light's name as being, extensively, "kira-kira moon high."
maybe my fellow death note crazies can see where i'm going with this. now, let's look at L's name, which is far more self-explanatory. his name is L Lawliet (in case you are somehow on the death note tags and were not already aware), which is pronounced "L low-light." (which, as s a side note, is a hilariously unintuitive pronunciation for his name, implying that Light (if he ever heard it) would almost certainly misspell it (made even more likely as a native japanese speaker, even given how good his english is) and potentially make him immune to a human using the death note by misspelling it six times.)
so, if we put the *phonetic* pronunciation of L's name next to the *written* extrapolation of light's, and reduce light's name to its logical conclusion, we get "L low light" and "Kira moon high." (hyphon in L's name and hyphon + second 'kira' in light's removed, as light himself is not both kiras, and removing the second kira also removes the hyphon in his name, whereafter we then logically can remove the hyphon in l's name. like homoerotic algebra.)
furthering the analogy, and allowing a little leniency (given all the other obvious similarities) that "light" can be taken as the opposite to "moon"—as in, "sunlight," and furthermore, "sun"—we output "L low sun" and "Kira moon high."
if you interpret L as the sun and Light as the moon, then congrats, it's already spelled out for you. if you interpret L as the moon and light as the sun, then it's like they carry the symbolic celestial analogies of one another in the other's name, which is some crazy soulmate shit. if you're like me, and interpret them as being both but in different ways, then both ways are true simultaneously. (to me, it speaks to how similar they ultimately are that you can interpret them as being both the sun and moon, albeit in different fashions.)
either way, they have gay ass little names and i can't believe i've never heard anybody talk about this before. so eat up, death note tumblr. enjoy your meal.

how to adapt into dtblr culture for twitter refugees
so you've decided to move here from twitter. welcome and congratulations. this post is basically a big warning that goes THIS ISN'T TWITTER, DON'T BEHAVE LIKE IT IS, LEAVE THAT AT THE DOOR
i'll be teaching you two things, how the site works, and how to adapt your behavior to tumblr ( and really, normal human being ) culture. believe me, it's not that hard and it will actually feel very productive
let's start with the basics and frequent questions
your username can be anything, don't stress about it
your picture can be anything. a lot of us don't even have dteam related stuff up on our profile
your display name doesn't have to be your name. nobody is going to see it when you post, only usernames are visible
check your settings. do it. get familiar with them. turning on and off asks, turning anon off, turning submissions off. click on your blog, go to blog settings, check things there, go to account, your muted things will be there, go to dashboard and customize that. use your settings !!!
yes, pinned posts are fairly important and they tend to be pretty extensive. name age what you post about ( a lot of people here are multifandom !), just don't overshare ( no locations no trigger lists i beg you ). they also usually have a breakdown of your tags at the end
tags
it's a whole thing. some are actually useful. some are just passive commentary
the tags you put on posts ( both when you made the post and when you're reblogging something ) are both global and hosted on your profile. it's why you'll see things like "nameofperson art" rather than just "art". using just "art" will put you in the promoted tag, in this case
you can use spaces on your tags
usually you will tag what type of post you're making ( art, text post, ask post ), and then the contents keep in mind this is how people often mute things, some people tag the current situation, people use and mute ship tags. but this is also how people find things, like the specific asks from one person to another, so "username ask" is commonly used, "irl person ( dream, dnf, etc )" is also seen a lot just watch how others tag things and copy them. nobody will get offended you took their tag formatting, most of us will appreciate properly tagged posts
you do tag when you reblog people. you use tags to comment on things. don't really use replies unless you're, saying thank you to someone or pointing out a spell mistake or asking to add an option to a poll, etc. we don't do replies, just rb your reply
quick reblog and like deets
post popularity is measured in "notes" which is the sum of replies, reblogs and likes. we don't really care much about numbers here and if you start getting crazy about it people will not like it. this is more of a talking and showing site
you can reblog without tags, feel free to
you can hide your likes. you can and should like as many things as you want. they don't alter any algorithm, since there's none. a like is a "i saw this post" notification to the poster
actually posting
people talk a lot. a fucking lot, and it's something you will have to get used to, because it's very different from twitter
there are no qrts. callouts are looked down upon. breathe. if you don't like something MUTE IT DON'T POST ABOUT IT, because no one is going to listen to any callouts. you will have to learn to live with the fact people like things you don't. this will, with time, make you feel very free
the bulk of posting here is asks, as you might notice soon. asks are fun and encouraged. just don't name drop if you're talking about drama please ?
don't be scared to send asks off anon, this is how people will find you and get to know you really. people are also more likely to reply to you
block bait anons. yes you can block anons. yes it will block every blog they make
culture time
i've said this. tumblr is unserious. drama here is approached very differently and with several less layers of panic. you will see death threats. you will see slurs ( said in non derogatory ways ). you will see jokes about serious topics. you will see people say "i didn't like this" and nobody will care
tumblr is a community of individualism. you will like your own things within the thing we share we like. you might not like dream's music, you might not find irl streams entertaining, as long as you're fucking normal about it ? nobody will care and you're free to express your opinions. people will even come ask you about it and just have a chat. we're here for the same content to some degree
tumblr is also a bunch of people who understand they like another bunch of people. that none of the streamers have stopped being human. so you might see people defend things that, maybe, you'd not have thought to defend before. maybe you're even uncomfortable seeing them defending it. this is something you will experience a lot, and you'll learn to properly deal with it as time passes
because again. no one does callouts here unless it is extremely bad. no one cares if you don't really like them. and they also accept people might and will not like them. and that is fine. and that doesn't make either person horrible. you're just different people. and you don't even have to interact
you want to make friends ? ask people things, compliment people's work, genuinely attempt to make conversation. this is not an impersonal website the way twitter is. people don't care about your opinions because they care about you, and you are more than what you don't like
the more positive and jokey and interactive you are the more people will talk to you. there's no "hitting the algorithm", there's no "engagement", it's just people talking to people. so don't be a neg posting bot, and be a person
you will learn to be less miserable. you learn to stop giving a shit and just do what makes you happy. they cannot get you here. there's no qrts. the few antis you'll find can be blocked and you'll never have to directly interact with one. don't be mean to the people in your own community, even if you disagree
again, you are more than what you don't like. learn to be what you like instead. and leave the dooming at the door

Link to New Polls on the Update (Which don't auto close in a week like the Tumblr ones)
Also...
I'm currently coming down with something (Covid test says not that, so maybe just the flu?) so I'll be taking a bit of a break after this.
More (Fiddly) Info on the Update Behind the Spoiler Cut...
The Update Also Includes...
Calmly letting Merlin into your apartment after escaping the monster-under-the-bed no longer removes the mute flag
Fixed Adrian literally calling the MC as "MC" in the pub
Fixed expresso back to espresso AGAIN *stares at it*
Fixed the phil_status 2 bug AGAIN (Somehow I must've reverted a bunch of bug fixes in Chapter 1)
Fixed bug where MC's name permanently changes to their pseudonym if the player tried to back out of the renaming screen
Fixed the "On second thought, let me try a different fake first name…" option so it only asks the player to change their fake first name (as originally intended)
Fixed some dialogue with Adrian depending upon your clothing choices in the polo club branch
Fixed the Adrian text messaging bug. Again. Hopefully third time is the charm.
Fixed bug where your current job being your dream employment wasn't triggering the positive job attitude flavor text
Fixed bug where the mute flag was being toggled off when interacting with Adrian regarding your fancy outfit before the polo club meeting
Choice where Lucid Dreamer MC talks to Modern Arthur about Merlin's dreamwalking advice is now set to toggle only when the MC speaks to Merlin in the Camelot dream sequence
Fixed bug with the user's input option for Business Casual outfit
User's choice option for Business Casual & Business Suit now toggles pants or skirt variable
Fixed bug with the Cracking text effect in darkmode
All piercings & scars now available in one choice during customization.
Fixed bug (AGAIN!) when Lucky MC fails the luck check to escape the bed monster
Added reactions to Camelot-affiliated names belonging to inanimate objects.
Fixed *set ag2 2 -1 bug in Camelot dream sequence (I wonder how that didn't trigger QuickTest)
A Bit More Info on the Update Mechanics
The decision on which club you join is one of the first questions in Chapter 1, so players will have to restart from pretty early on. However the fencing club flavor text will continue to run throughout the rest of the game (including in the Camelot dream sequence with the Courtyard branch for the Lucid Dreamer MC).
Otherwise this current update does not progress the game further into Chapter 2.
Also Part 2....
We lost power to part of the house (thankfully not including my computer), and while I'm usually the one who deals with the circuit breakers, since I'm currently sick I asked my mother to do it this one time. She turned the power off to the entire house. 🥲 The uninterruptible power source did nothing and now my computer and the microwave are bugging out. I'm just going to lie down now.

TUMBLR F1BLR RULES!!!
hi, hello and welcome, we've seen what's been happening to twitter and we welcome you to our little corner.
Tumblr media
there are however some things that differ from Twitter to Tumblr and so we have some different rules and behaviour then you might be used to!! I'm gonna try to explain them to you in this post! everything is below the tab!
reblog reblog reblog!!! likes do absolutely nothing, and your blog 'aestetic' in reblogs doesn't really matter unless you're a specific aesthetic blog, reblog are the way people see the content. likes are private! so remember to reblog the stuff you see and like!
DO NOT STEAL GIFS/GRAPHICS I WILL COME AFTER YOU!!! always ask if you can use a gif an then ALWAYS CREDIT properly
shipping is, prevalent. shipping even rpf is ingrained into tumblrs culture on every side of it if you dont like it thats a you thing, you can 'blacklist' tags so just add 'rpf' or the shipnames to them and you should be good!
continuing with that idea, curate your own experience is the most important thing on this site, blocking and blacklisting is normal and very much allowed and welcomed. almost no one is going to change how they do or act around here for one person, just unfollow or blacklist.
but do NOT put long posts or x reader fics, anything in the main tag without putting it under a 'read more' tab people will get annoyed by you
followers dont matter!!! no one CARESSS about basically anything this site is wonderfully anonymous and we can't see how many followers anyone has so genuinely no one gives a shit do whatever you want
remember to trigger tag and unlike twitter spell it out completely! so when a crash happens or is talked about make sure to tag it 'tw crash' even with reblogs!! also remember to tag when you're being negative about a driver as 'anti *insert first name*' never do full name then it will show up in their tags which defeats the purpose of anti tagging.
adding to that, use tags! they're one of the best tumblr features its free to be overenthusiastic and excited in the tags BUT the blog you can reblog it from AND the op can also read those tags so keep that in mind!!
be nice! this shud be a given, be nice, let people do their thing and vibe, just support people and block when u you dont vibe with them! when you do wanna send hate asks do it off anon, dont be shy do it on main
and things arnt 'weird' in the same way they are on twitter, this place has no drivers and no public figures so shame is a lot less existent here, you have to get used to that
and lastly as quoted by my anon 'Don't be afraid to be funny or weird be thirsty on main ship the middle aged man no one cares.'
and most of all. HAVE FUN!!! dont be scared to ask people how things work most of us are very okay with answering 'dumb' questions a lot of us have been here for about a decade we know its a confusing platform please ask away!

Idk who from twitter needs to hear this but Tumblr Tagging Is Here For A Reason
Please use it.
Please use it on your ships. Please use it for every single character on your post. Not only does it allow for your content to reach everyone looking for these posts—it helps prevent those who have blocked tags from seeing it.
Twitter Tagging was nonexistant—I know, im from there. But being able to see things that dont trigger horrible responses is something you Should Use. Protect others, promote yourselves.
And please spell out your tags with no weird characters, please call it what it is and dont make up new names without tagging properly too. Thank you!

THE DREAMERS IN THE DAYLIGHT: HIGH LADY
Tumblr media
Scene: Feyre takes the Stand
WARNING: This fic is strongly Feysand-critical, and contains OCs who do not have their backstories described in the below scene. This is a scene from my fic, the Dreamers in the Daylight, which is in drafting stages. I've made efforts to tag properly here on Tumblr but please be forewarned when you read.
With the chime of a bell, the court was now in session.
Feyre sat up straight on the stand, recalling her lessons with Rhys. Look only at Eunomia - not the Night Court. Here, against her, it would be no good to show vulnerability. The Keeper of Laws and Scales had no feelings - a heart of pure stone - and she would take Feyre's natural desire to seek her mate's support and guidance as a weakness to exploit. She must only be the High Lady of Night, seated above everything and everyone.
Eunomia thumbed carefully through her stack of papers and files. Feyre spared a glance for the assembled Courts in the galleries above then. As expected, Tamlin was seated near the rail, flanked by his young sentry. He watched as Eunomia, satisfied now with her organization, straightened her back and approached the bench. The Keeper's golden robes swished softly around her sandaled ankles as she stepped lightly across the mosaic floor.
Feyre drew her eyes to Eunomia's just as Tamlin shifted his gaze to the bench. To her.
She schooled her face unto cool neutrality, despite the surge of anger she felt.
They really were two little peas in a pod, Feyre thought.
She expected the sound of Rhys's dark, melodious laugh at her remarks - but there was only silence.
The spell - the invocation of Truth - it had blocked their abilities. For the first time in years, Feyre was utterly alone inside of her own head.
A pang of unease struck as she instinctively dug down for that bridge, that bond - but there was nothing. Only quiet and memories. Her own memories, and nothing of Rhysand.
Feyre risked a glance at the assembled Night Court - her sisters, her family, her mate. Nesta was busy caring for Nyx, but Cassian had arrived, seated on Rhysand's right side.
Her mate locked eyes with her, and nodded.
"My lady, I have asked you a question. "
Feyre emerged, into reality. "Repeat it, if you please."
No apologies. Not for this female - not now. Eunomia repeated, "I have asked you to identify your name for our record."
"Feyre Archeron, the Cauldron-Breaker, High Lady of Night, Defender of thr Rainbow."
"Strike the High Lady's additional titles," Eunomia said, with a glance towards the shifting quill scratched notes on an endless roll of parchment. The quill immediately drew lines through its previous work. "In future, my lady, please use only your name and your official titles for identification purposes."
"If you insist."
"I do, thank you. Do you understand your duties here?"
"I am to tell the truth."
"That is correct. You swore an oath. Do you also understand why you are here?"
"I am here," said Feyre, "to correct a great injustice and misunderstanding that you seem to have about my Court."
Eunomia didn't rise to the taunt. "Can you elaborate on your point?"
"The Night Court has not always been a steadfast or reliable ally and friend to the peoples of Prythian," said Feyre, putting a hand over her heart as she addressed the assembled lords and ladies. "However, your accusations - your crusade - is in vain. You seem to have some strange ideas about our role in the tragic events of the past. I believe that we will be able to correct your misunderstandings today."
Silence was to be expected, but Feyre decided that she had made a decent show of it. The trick was not to be overly flashy - trying to make herself more eloquent never served - but to be sincere, and she was. They had to remember that Eunomia was at fault. She had called this trial for revenge. The Night Court's mistakes were their own.
Eunomia merely raised an eyebrow. "Very well. Let's begin, then. Can you describe your duties as High Lady of Night?"
Feyre replied, "I manage correspondence and arrange meetings. I also preside over the Hewn City on occasion. I listen to and hear our people’s concerns, and alleviate them. I organize and find solutions to our problems. I find it best to interact personally with our people – to meet with them as individuals, rather than as a faceless mass of subjects. I also teach in Velaris.”
"What do you teach?"
"Art. I'm a painter."
"I see. And what else?"
Feyre blinked. "I'm sorry?"
And winced - that was too close to an apology, even if she hadn't meant it as such. She should have said, "I beg your pardon?" or "Excuse me?" or something else more - High Ladyish.
"What else is there?" Eunomia asked. "Do you have any other responsibilities?"
Feyre's gut suddenly clenched. "I don't like what you're implying."
"I am not implying anything. It is important, before we proceed, that we have the most accurate information. I am asking if you have any other responsibilities that you may have neglected to mention."
Inhale, exhale. Her explosion of temper had saved her once, but not now. Not now. "No, that's all."
"I see. You have described some managerial duties. Can you elaborate on this more? Do you manage any of the Night Court's correspondence with foreign nations?"
"No."
"Do you manage anything with regards to trade, either between foreign nations or the other sovereign Courts?"
"Not directly, no."
"Do you manage anything with regards to the Night Court's military - for example, do you train and manage units of soldiers?"
"No."
Feyre winced again. She'd gotten into a rhythm and answered without thinking. She was a fighter. A warrior, like her mate. She should have said yes - even if, technically, Eunomia's question was not about her own fighting prowess.
But the Keeper merely continued, "Do you manage any diplomatic relations between the other sovereign Courts of Prythian?"
This was a trap. This was a trap. Without her bond with Rhysand, filling the emptiness inside of her, she might as well have been that teenage girl in the woods, freezing and alone again. Eunomia's eyes were as gray as the skies above the barren trees. Always, the winter, in her memories. "No," said Feyre.
"I see. So, you have now described for us your duties. You are High Lady, and in that capacity, you interact personally with the people of the Night Court, and manage certain tasks – but you are not involved in trade, diplomacy, the military, or international relations. Am I understanding correctly?”
Damn her. This was her goal - to make Feyre so small, and weak, and flushed with shame. "That's not right."
"I am repeating what you have told me. Recall that you swore an oath to speak the truth."
"I haven't lied, but you -"
High Lady of the Desk. She'd made that joke to Rhysand, privately, in their own bedroom, and yet, Eunomia had somehow aired it out in front of everyone. She'd minimized it. There was no High Lady in Prythian, until her. No females who ruled as equals with their mates, until her. And yet, Eunomia made it so insignificant.
I don't think I could handle it... if they called me High Lady.
She felt each pair of eyes, watching her, as if they could see what was under her skin. As if they could see what was in the mirror, lurking just beyond her subconsciousness. Her true self, which only Rhysand really knew, which she had done so much to conquer. To accept.
When she didn't answer, Eunomia replied, "That's fine. We can move on. Perhaps you may clarify some other things for me."
She went back to her table and drew up one of her files.
"As you know, I have spent a considerable amount of time speaking to witnesses and constructing a timeline of the relevant events. I am going to read for you the timeline that I have constructed. Please stop me at any point if I have something incorrect. To my understanding: the curse upon this land was broken in midsummer. Six months passed, and you began planning your wedding to Lord Tamlin –” Here, Eunomia pointed to where he was seated in the gallery, “– and presumably, began to assume the duties of the Lady of Spring. However, your wedding was interrupted due to a bargain that was struck between you and Lord Rhysand –”
Here, again, she pointed, and Feyre seized the opportunity to look at him again. Her beautiful, perfect mate. She ached for his voice in her head, his dark power flooding through her, soothing her as it always, always had. His sparkling eyes were full of emotion, and Feyre heard the echoes of him, telling her to be strong. Be strong. Be brave.
She could do it, if he was here. This was only another obstacle that they would overcome, as she and Rhysand had always overcome everything - together.
I love you, Feyre thought. She let it shine out of her. I love you more than life itself. More than anything. She knew that it would reach him, even though her thoughts were shielded from his.
Eunomia was still speaking. “You spent intermittent periods in the Night Court, as a result of this bargain. However, in the winter of that year, there came a point when Lord Rhysand did not return you after the expected week was past. Two months later, you returned to Spring, after the bargain was severed by King Conand the Second of Hybern. Is this timeline correct, to your estimation?”
Feyre lifted her chin. Nothing would break her. Not even this. "That's correct, yes."
"Very well. At what point, then, did you become High Lady of Night?"
The silence in the courtroom was utterly complete. Feyre felt her hard-won confidence teeter, standing on the ledge of that old insecurity. Two months - but Velaris was home. The Night Court, her family. They were hard months, to be sure, and all the work that had come after - no. No, she couldn't take this away, too. She couldn't reduce the love that Feyre's family shared. She had spent so long trying to forget those dark times, and yet -
"My lady," Eunomia prompted. "Do you need me to repeat the question?"
"It was just before I was taken back to Spring.” Not returned. Feyre wouldn’t give her that, wouldn’t pretend that she’d gone back willingly. “We went before the priestess – Rhysand and I, after I found out that he was my mate.”
"Were there any witnesses, apart from the priestess?"
Feyre felt a chill run down her spine. "We have a certificate. It's notarized properly."
For a horrifying moment, Feyre waited for Eunomia to say, "But how could you possibly know that, since you are illiterate?"
But Eunomia merely replied, "Yes, I have a copy in my records. I am asking if there were witnesses."
"It was a private ceremony," said Feyre, and by the fucking gods, there was no way to sound confident now. Not when she saw so clearly the path that this was treading down. "We intended - later - to invite our family."
"So, there were no witnesses at your marriage and mating ceremony."
Feyre closed her eyes. "No. There were no witnesses."
"And when you ascended your throne, did Lord Rhysand give you any official responsibilities?"
"No. I wasn't made High Lady for any official agenda. I was made High Lady because we love each other, and because we are partners."
Eunomia simply nodded, not reacting to her words. “So, you were made High Lady in a secret ceremony, with no witnesses, and you were then returned to Spring with no official responsibilities.”
"I just told you it wasn't secret. With Hybern on our doorstep, attacking us, kidnapping my sisters -"
"But it was a secret," said Eunomia, pinning Feyre in place with her sharp voice. "You had no witnesses, and didn’t tell anyone. In fact, no one outside of the Night Court knew that you had become High Lady until after you had left the Spring Court a second time, after months had passed. You were not debuted formally before the High Council until well after the invasion of Prythian had begun.”
There it was - the crux of the argument. Feyre bit her tongue, and said nothing, so Eunomia moved on.
"In your current capacity as High Lady, you do not directly or individually handle any matter relating to foreign relations, trade, military, or inter-court diplomacy. Yet you immediately returned to Spring upon your ascension as High Lady of Night. Can you explain to me why that is?”
"It wasn't immediate - it was because of Tamlin. Because of what he did with Hybern -"
"Forgive me, but I'm not sure what you're trying to say. Are you suggesting that you became High Lady before your mating ceremony, because of Lord Tamlin's involvement with Hybern?"
“No.” Feyre felt – heavy. Stupid. Stupid, stupid ignorant human. Unworthy. Unimportant. "I became High Lady because I love my mate."
"Then, why did you return to Spring?"
She was utterly ruthless, immovable. Worse than Nesta. Conspiracy, sabotage, and insurrection. Justice and revenge. Feyre stared in amazement at the Keeper, who merely folded her hands behind her back to wait for her response.
"I didn't do anything wrong," said Feyre. "When I was taken back to Spring, I did what was necessary."
"Necessary."
"Yes."
"Define necessary," said Eunomia.
Feyre repeated, "I didn't do anything wrong."
"I am not asking if you think you did wrong. I am asking you to define what actions you took in Spring that you deemed necessary. What was your goal?"
Tamlin's eyes - so watchful, even from beneath his golden mask - were on her now. Feyre felt them most of all. His eyes had always been on her. Watching, but not seeing. Not until it was too late. Him, and now Eunomia - this was all their fault.
"He had made some sort of truce with Hybern," said Feyre, deciding that she wouldn't even spare him a glance of contempt. "I assumed that he cared more for his people than he did - that they would be safe."
"This does not answer my question. What, exactly, was your goal when you returned to the Spring Court, despite having been mated, married, and ascended upon the throne of the Night Court? What, exactly, did you deem it ‘necessary’ to do while you were there?”
Thrice-damned she-devil, Feyre thought, barely leashing her fury. Eunomia was going to force her to say it out loud, as if it wasn't in her precious timeline of "relevant events." As if they didn't know what the justice of Night looked like.
“I tried to tell – Tamlin,” said Feyre, stumbling somewhat over his name. She’d rarely spoken it aloud since the end of the war. “I tried to tell him that I wasn’t going back to the Spring Court, but he didn’t listen. He never listens. So, I had to return – so that he wouldn’t hurt me, or my family.”
"Did you tell him that you had become the High Lady of Night?"
"No." Of course not.
Eunomia, for some reason, didn't push her on this. "What was Lord Tamlin's reaction, when you returned to the Spring Court?"
He'd held her. Feyre remembered how devastated she'd been, to be away from her new mate. She recalled how much she'd wanted to rip Tamlin's arms from his body, to break the hands that were touching her, since they didn't belong to Rhysand. She also remembered that there had been tears in his eyes. Tamlin had always been a surprisingly emotional creature. He had only ever wanted to keep her safe, regardless of how it made her feel.
"He was relieved, I think," said Feyre. "He seemed to think he was rescuing me." Then, remembering herself, she added dismissively, "I wouldn't know for sure. You'd need to ask him."
"Rescuing you? From what?"
"From my family. My mate."
"But you didn't tell him that you had been mated to Lord Rhysand. You told no one that you were High Lady of Night."
"I couldn't."
"Why?"
Feyre stared at her. Tamlin had been cursed to hold a heart of stone, but this? This was another degree. "I wouldn't expect you to understand that kind of situation."
“Then please, my lady, enlighten me,” said Eunomia, “as to why you would formally join another Court, in its second-highest position of power, and fail to disclose that information to your former fiancé, after he believed – as you say – that he was rescuing you from your own Court. You have to understand that this strains credulity. And furthermore, you still haven’t answered my original question. What actions were necessary, after you returned to the Spring Court?”
The audacity of her. The sheer arrogance.
"I did nothing wrong."
Eunomia sighed. "I request the court's permission to treat the witness as uncooperative."
The spells lining the edge of the room flared slightly, and Feyre felt as the magic crept into her throat, twisted around her vocal chords and pull. She gasped.
"My apologies, High Lady," said Eunomia, without so much as an ounce of sincerity, "I realize this may seem harsh, but I must say that you are being extremely vague in your responses. Please, speak as clearly as possible, and provide relevant details to the court going forward. Otherwise, I dare say that we might be here all day."
Feyre had never hated anyone more than she hated Eunomia, in this moment.
The command from the Keeper of Laws and Scales was absolute. Feyre could not, dared not refuse anymore.  The binding spell – the Authority of Truth – was strong, and there was no ability that she possessed that allowed her to bypass this. Even Helion’s sharp magic, latent within her, yielded before Truth. Feyre felt the memories rise to her mind, unbidden. Her secret, innermost thoughts, her feelings, her dreams and her fears –
"I needed to punish them," said Feyre. "For what they did to me."
"Who is they? What happened?"
"I was drowning."
"In a lake? Please, my lady -"
“No,” Feyre snapped. “I was suffering – after what happened Under the Mountain – and no one in that entire damned Court lifted so much as a finger to help me. Tamlin was making it worse, smothering me, lashing out with his magic – and even when I’d escaped, he couldn’t let me be happy. So when he came to drag me back, I decided to show everyone the kind of monster that he really is. I showed them all his true self.”
Eunomia paused, just a moment. She regarded Feyre, but was as inscrutable as ever. Then, she said, "So, you felt that the Spring Court had become inhospitable to you. You left for the Night Court, became High Lady – and did not tell anyone that you had formally renounced your ties to Spring, or to Lord Tamlin. Then, you returned to Spring, to punish them – all the while failing to disclose your true intent. Am I understanding you correctly, my lady?”
Saying it like that was - wrong. Wrong, somehow. Feyre bit her cheek, trying to resist.
"I was only -"
"It is a yes or no question, my lady. I will remind you again that you swore an oath."
The Authority of Truth was squeezing her throat. Feyre choked out, "Yes."
When the pressure was relieved, Feyre coughed, and added, "But – it was to protect Velaris. They couldn’t know about Velaris, not back then. I wanted everyone to be safe but our people –”
Eunomia waved her hand dismissively, and turned to face the assembled gallery.
"The court appreciates and thanks you for your testimony today. This concludes my presentation of the evidence on charges of conspiracy - "
"It wasn't my fault!"
She rose to her feet, the shout in her voice causing Eunomia to turn right on her heels.
“My lady, I will not ask you again. You will show respect to this court and these proceedings, or I shall treat you as hostile. Please, sit down.”
"You don't get to do this." Feyre's voice was breathy to her own ears. Her blood pounded. "You don't get to rewrite the narrative of what happened."
"My lady -"
"You have no idea. No idea what it was like for me - and you don't get to brush my suffering aside because it's convenient for your political agenda -"
"Political agenda?"
For the first time, Eunomia's face revealed a flicker of emotion.
And it was rage.
Pure, incandescent rage, a mirror to Feyre's own. So, there was a heart, after all, somewhere in Eunomia's chest. But she couldn’t be satisfied that she’d gotten a reaction out of the Keeper of Laws and Scales. Not when Eunomia marched back to her banister, reached into one of her many files, and drew up a set of papers.
"My lady, do you have any idea how many children died during Hybern's invasion of the Spring Court?"
Feyre grimaced. Not my fault. Justice. "No."
“Six hundred and thirty-seven,” said Eunomia. “The Spring Court’s records are better intact than most, due to their circumstances during the reign of the so-called High Queen. However, many of their villages were completely flattened, reduced to ashes, and their records along with them. So, given the fluctuating nature of refugee populations, and the expected gap in recordings – we shall say that six hundred and thirty-seven children of Spring died during the invasion of Hybern, that we know of. I suspect that the true count is much, much higher."
Block it out. Forget. Remember - it was not her fault. Feyre closed her eyes.
“So, earlier, you said that you assumed – rather than directly ascertaining – that Hybern had made some deal with Lord Tamlin, wherein the rights and dignities of the Spring Court’s people would be respected even if he lost his authority,” said Eunomia. “You assumed that an invading army would spare the females, elderly, and the children, is that correct?”
No. Not like that. Feyre didn't want to think of it. Didn't want to believe.
"I made an error in judgement. I didn't consider whether we'd need the Spring Court's armies - to fight Hybern, later."
"Just the armies," said Eunomia, dryly.
There was damnation in her tone. I am a murderer. From the moment she'd become fae, there had been blood on her hands. From the moment she'd entered Prythian, in fact. But the Spring Court - no, it was different. It wasn't like Velaris. It wasn't her home, even when Feyre lived there. It was Tamlin. Tamlin was Spring, and he was the Court. He was the one that she'd braved the Mountain for, the one she'd cared about. He was the one she'd wanted to destroy.
So, she hadn't thought about the Spring Court at all.
"Do you have anything else that you would like to add to the record, or shall I conclude the proceedings now?"
When Feyre did not answer her - there was nothing that she could say, to that, anyway - Eunomia approached the bench and handed her the sheets of papers. Feyre was too stunned to do anything except take them, with numb fingers, and regard the list. Names, ages, places of birth and residence. It was a thick packet.
"Since you were unawares before," said Eunomia. "Here. You may wish to inform yourself of the facts before you return to this court."
And with that last condemnation, Eunomia once again faced the gallery.
"My lady, you may step down from the bench. The court thanks you for your time and testimony today. This concludes the presentation of evidence in regards to charges of conspiracy against the Spring Court. We are now adjourned for today."
The spells flared one last time, and the bell chimed. The magic dimmed and receded like a tide, and Feyre felt the threads of her own magic resurface.
Darkness flooded her - sweet night. Darling.
Silently, she reached across the bridge for her mate. Feyre exhaled shakily, relieved when she found him. He filled her head with warmth, with stars, with love. She had survived, though she felt now that she may have been skinned alive.
Rhys, tell me everything is going to be okay.
For the space of one heartbeat - two - three - four - she received no answer.
Rhys?
At last, Feyre looked up.
She saw Eunomia carefully folding her papers, and tucking them under her arm before she bustled out of the doors. She saw the Courts of Summer, Autumn, and Winter rising to depart. She saw Thesan lean over to engage Helion in conversation - and at his side, Daphne, looking satisfied.
Footsteps approached - her Court. Her family. Feyre smiled, relieved for just a second - until she saw the looks on their faces.
Rhysand surged forward, extending a hand to help her down from the bench. Feyre squeezed his cold fingers, and did not let go as she stood, and stretched. He quickly seized the packet from her hands, and handed it to Azriel, who tucked it away just as quickly, out of sight. Cassian was looking pale, but extended his wings just so, as if to block them all from sight of the others. Elain was wringing her hands, half-turned away to where Eunomia was already disappearing out of the court's main entrance.
Worst of all was Amren.
"What were you thinking, girl?" she asked, low with disappointed. "What happened?"
"Not now, Amren."
Rhysand's voice was harsh, his face tight as he drew Feyre against him, to his side, rubbing her arm.
"What is it?" she asked, looking around at them. "I thought -"
"Not now," Rhysand repeated, gentler, but he still did not look at her. "We need to rethink our strategy. Mor -"
"I'll go," Azriel said.
He half-glanced at Elain, who was not looking at anyone. Her eyes were still on the gallery, eyeing the faeries who were slowest to depart. The Day Court, especially - Feyre realized that she had not seen Lucien all day, had not even looked for him. But Azriel showed now reaction, and turned to stride quickly out of the courtroom.
Rhys, what did I do?
Feyre gazed up to him. Her mate, her great love, the father of her son.
Amren's gaze simmered with unusual contempt, gazing at her High Lord.
"If we coddle her," she said, "then she will never learn."
Rhysand growled, "Not here, Amren."
"No," Feyre said, blood pounding in her ears. "No, Amren - tell me. I need to know."
Rhysand's distress made itself known to her through their bond, feeding Feyre's own - but he said nothing when Amren glared at Feyre and hissed:
"You admitted to the charges. She asked you if you hid your true intent from the Spring Court, on behalf of the Night Court. That is conspiracy. You said 'yes.'"
It wasn't her fault. She'd done nothing wrong. Those dead children, dead faeries - that wasn't her. It was Hybern who had killed them. Tamlin, who had failed them. Feyre had survived everything, and gotten justice for the harm done to her. Justice.
But the spell must have had an aftertaste - because she couldn't admit it. It would be a lie.
Rhys...
It's alright. The dark rumble of his voice still soothed her. We'll figure it out, darling. We'll fix this.
Together.
My fault.

Guys. I shouldn't have to say this, but
AO3 is not TikTok.
Play all the silly algorithm games you want by tagging every irrelevant trend and current pop song on your TikTok vids to try to boost their visibility, but that nonsense does not belong in a structured, tag-ordered archive like AO3 (which doesn't have an algorithm). It is not acceptable community behavior to list every single relationship tag in a fandom on your fic in order to try to accumulate more hits. Tags should reflect what's actually in the story so it can be properly categorized and filtered. If an 1,100-word E-rated fic is tagged "PWP, smut, seriously it's just porn, explicit sexual content, don't like don't read, [six more specific sexual act tags redacted so nobody has to encounter them on their Tumblr dash without warning]," IT 👏 DOES 👏 NOT 👏 BELONG 👏 IN 👏 THE 👏 GEN 👏 TAGS.
I just scrolled through four pages of the primary gen tag in one of my fandoms, and a full 70% of the fics in the results were slash fics -- many explicit -- that people had added gen/& tag(s) to, either out of ignorance of what those tags mean, or in an attempt to sucker more people into clicking on it. (I promise you, if someone is in the gen tag because they don't want to see romantic or sexual content, they are NOT going to enthusiastically R&R your slash fic. Filters exist for a reason. Shoving content at people who are not its target audience just annoys everyone.)
Some of this is obviously deliberate tag sandbagging: A <1K PWP for the main ship that also includes multiple slash and gen tags for multiple supporting characters? Hella sus. A fic that lists eight slash and gen tags for the main pairing alone, using every conceivable spelling permutation of their names? Probably looking to maximize hits (and clearly unaware of how AO3's search function actually works). But it's likely that not everyone is doing this maliciously, and since there might be some legitimate confusion surrounding the use of relationship tags, here's a review for new users or anyone who needs a refresher:
Which AO3 Relationship Tag Should You Use?
Character A/Character B: A slash between character names means that they are depicted in the story as being in a romantic and/or sexual relationship (it does not have to be both). This relationship can be canon, fanon, headcanon, crack ship, crossover, whatever. It just means they're romantically entangled to some extent within the tagged story. (Fun fact: The slash has been used to denote this kind of fanfiction for over half a century! "Slash fic" has its roots in early Star Trek zines, which were the first to codify the slash between names as indicating a romantic relationship. This shorthand spread to other fandoms in the 1970s and '80s, and became the standard for internet fanfiction archives when they came into being in the '90s.)
Character A & Character B: The et/ampersand ("and") between names means that the characters are depicted in a non-romantic/non-sexual relationship, OR that they might be in a romantic relationship (canonically or otherwise), but the tagged story focuses on non-romantic aspects of the relationship. Stories that deal with characters' friendship, rivalry, family bonds, betrayal, coming to understand each other, etc. all fall under this heading. This is also called "gen" or "genfic," derived from the AO3 relationship category (below):
Tumblr media
In the event that a fic qualifies for both types of tags, you can use additional clarifying tags such as "pre-slash" (characters are not yet in a romantic relationship, but are heading in that direction), "background Character A/Character B" (the romantic relationship exists only as a backdrop for or incidental to the main story), or "slash applies to chapter 5 only" (if only one scene or chapter deals with the romantic aspects of the relationship) to help readers know what to expect from the story. (The last tag is also used for fics which jump content ratings between chapters, usually due to an isolated scene of sexual content or graphic violence, e.g. "M rating is for chapter 8 only.")
Learning how AO3's tagging system works and using it as intended will only benefit users (authors and readers) in the long run. AO3's filter system is the most extensive and versatile of any fanfiction archive in existence, so you can find the exact things you want without scrolling for days. (There are even additional search tools you can use to narrow your results beyond the basic filters!) But it all depends on the tags being accurate. If authors don't apply the correct tags to their fics, the system breaks down.
So go forth and tag properly! Please. I beg you.

TLHOD SECRET SANTA 2023 - SIGNUPS OPEN
Yes, it's that time again!
As always, even if you aren’t participating, I’d be very grateful if you could signal boost by re-blogging!  I’ll also be cross-posting to my Twitter *here* so RTs much appreciated if you’re on there ~
What’s a Secret Santa?
For those who have never done a Secret Santa before, the way it works is you submit a gift request, which goes into a pool which is then randomised. The randomised requests are then handed out to the participants.
So basically, its Mystery Gift! Everyone draws/writes a gift for someone. You won’t know who it’s for, and you won’t know who is doing yours! Then at the exchange, the completed gifts are handed out anonymously to whomever they belong, via email.
Sounds good, where do I sign?
Send your email applications right here!   ->  [email protected]
What do I write in my  application email?
1. Your name / tumblr tag / most used social media - a link to your blog would also be helpful so I know who you are and can contact you if emails are not working or something. A link to examples of your work (art tag, etc) is also appreciated!
2. Preferred gift rating.  NSFW requests are totally okay as long as they are not offensive/racist/sexist but if you’d like something NSFW, please also provide a SFW alternative request as not everyone is comfortable producing such content. If you don’t mind receiving NSFW but would prefer not to submit it, please tell me and vice versa.
3. Your actual request!  If you prefer shipping/non shipping, please include this in your signup email. Please try to word your request so that it can be filled by either an artist or writer, if possible, as your gift-giver is randomly assigned!
Examples of requests  (just for reference, there’s no required format):
- something with your fave pairing / a particular scene
- an AU you’d like to see (please provide some details)
Your requests don’t have to have any particular theme, request whatever you like!
4. Whether you would be able to pinch-hit (fill an extra gift if needed).
5. Whether you would like to remain anonymous to your gift recipient and/or on the master-post of entries (which will be posted up on Tumblr a few days after gift exchange)
———-   DEADLINES   ————–
Applications Close:  29th October 2023, 00:00 GMT
Prompts Sent Out to Participants: by 1st November 2023, 00:00 GMT
Gift submission: 20th December 2023, 22:00 GMT
(Please submit your completed gifts to [email protected])
Gift Exchange: 22nd - 24th December 2023 (TBC)
———-      RULES/GUIDELINES     —————–
- Don’t be a butt. (generally the best rule to live by)
- Complete the gift using your MAD SKILLS, be it drawing or writing fanfic! If you have other cool magic abilities like animating, you’re welcome to use those too!
- Please submit completed works only. Your gift should be fully coloured if it’s art (unless you are specifically doing a monochrome / inked piece), and properly formatted, spell-checked and at least 1,000 words if it’s a written piece.
- For written pieces, google doc links/word documents are fine for the email exchange, but if you want me to include your fic in the tumblr master-post please bear in mind you need to post it somewhere link-able such as AO3.
- if you are submitting NSFW art, AO3 hosts art too and can be a good alternative to tumblr/twitter restrictions.
- Please don’t post any completed gifts on your blog before the gift exchange date!
- if the deadline is approaching and you know you won’t be able to submit your piece in time, please tell me as soon as possible so I can arrange for someone else to fill your assigned prompt.
- if you’d like to remain anonymous, please tell me (there will be master-posts of all the submissions a couple of days after exchange)
- I’ll be tracking the tumblr tag ‘tlhod secret santa 2023’.
There’s also a Discord group - please let us know if you’d like an invite!

Broken Bottles Form A Star by xxx_cat_xxx@xxx-cat-xxx
Clint isn’t sure whether he can fix any of this. He knows for certain that she doesn’t want him to. But whatever mess Natasha is, part of her has become his mess by now.

"And now she's gone, Natasha. And I-" he couldn't finish the sentence and she slipped one of her arms out of her grip, bringing it up to card through his hair. "Me too," He buried his head in her neck instead and he just breathed her in and felt her heart beating for another moment. Endgame/Clintasha Fix it Fic - Canon Compliant
We Bend in Dust by sunzeniths
Natalie Rushman leads an ordinary life with an ordinary job. Her reality consists of an unchanging, stale routine she shares with her husband. That is until she sees herself as a hunted woman; a superspy, skilled soldier- on the run alongside a mysterious rebel fighter of dark blonde hair and vibrant blue eyes. As the visions blur the lines between truth and fiction, she finds herself questioning her very existence: are these mere dreams, or are they memories of a life she doesn't remember? Total Recall (2012) Clintasha AU.

Post your lore drop, Coward. Nyah
its actually better if you disperse it throughout 13-22 episode seasons but fine.
My name is ****. I've always been a weird fucking autist. It lead to "interesting" relationships in school and with my friends. i was always pretty visibly queer. although it took a while to properly figure out. my brother helped me out with this. he helped me out with a lot of things. my emotions, myself, my school life. in the end. it was my brother essentially forcing me into a skirt during pride that made me realize i was trans,[this isn't to imply that i was unwilling with the process], and i had the same first year every trans girl has. uwu nya [<-correct spelling btw] skirt go spinny thigh highs. and then covid happened. and i was at home a lot which wasn't the worst because my siblings were there. i forget when my sister moved out, but my brother was an off and on figure throughout this, staying with my parents, leaving with his ex, coming back home, etc. but he supported me a lot at that time, because i had just quit highschool, all online, i was gonna graduate early.
naive, but a little needed. and so. i was in my room. and in my room. and in my room. and in my room. and then i got a job! and then i couldn't go. and i was in my room.
during this my brother was preparing to leave with our adoptive brother up to ******. and i was not sure how to take this, so i tried to make myself useful. i was clearing out one of the rooms. where my brother was storing the stuff from his move. i reacted badly to learning i fucked up.
and so he tried to help me. get me more in touch with my emotions, teach me how to cook. and then the day came. and there wasn't any fanfare. it kinda just. happened.
and i was in my room. and on discord. and tumblr. and twitter. and lonely.
and now I'm here.

HELLO!! I love your writing so muchsksvdkshskeshie
Can I request a one shot of Satosugu x Reader where Reader and Satoru is able to help Suguru to not go full spiral and they adopted the twins and Megumi and his sister, everything is going perfect, Suguru is happy, Reader is happy, Satoru is happy, the kids is happy but then Reader received a mission that she needed leave for 4 days and while she is on her mission she ended up dying and a curse(I have the image of the curse like a black ink or something like that) takes over her body, they try to understand how the human body works and how they talk properly (they learn a little but still just the basic, like walk, "talk", take bath) and when the "imposter" comes back home the twins come to great "her" but the curse don't know their names si they're like "oh yeah…miss u too little…thing?" And Satoru and the other notice that strange behavior but don't do much, some days passed and the "imposter" go take a bath and notice that our skin it's becoming way more fragile, easy to peel off the skin and reveal their meat, they're decomposing, and the insects are starting to wanting the decomposing body of her…Suguru and Satoru notice their strange behavior and the decomposing it's starting to stinks, Suguru thinks that they're having a depression episode because he also had that and was familiar with the behavior so they decided to have a family walk to see if that at least brought a sincere smile, since she came back of the mission their smiles seemed all too…fake?...a curse user(I let you decide) comes on their way and then (I don't know if you play Honkai Star Rail, but there's a character named "Tingyun" I don't know if I spelled right but there's a girl with foxy ears that breaks her neck) the curse not seeing any more use to that but decides to leave the corpse, breaking her neck and leaving her decomposing body on the ground with a evil smile on her corpse, and their loved ones looking at the dead body of their mother and girlfriend/wife
Live, laugh, love ANGST
Love your writing(again) First request of the year(I forget I had a account on Tumblr-

Long gone are the days when fan fiction was treated as a guilty pleasure, exclusively consumed on a glowing iPad screen under the covers at night and never to be discussed outside of Tumblr. We’re living in an age where Supernatural star Misha Collins boasts about Dean/Castiel fanfic stats on Twitter, a Harry Styles fanfic on Wattpad has been adapted into a major movie franchise, and even Academy Award–winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao openly admits to writing fan fiction. The hobby has become a cultural phenomenon, referenced casually in shows like Euphoria, Only Murders in the Building, 13 Reasons Why, and Bob’s Burgers. And who could forget Archive of Our Own (more widely known as AO3) snagging that Hugo Award in 2019?
Born in 2009, AO3 is one of the biggest fan fiction sites today. It’s an open source, multi-fandom archive for transformative fanworks that, as of January 2023, is home to approximately 10.5 million works across over 55,000 fandoms, ranging from big names like Stranger Things and Marvel to the most niche corners of the internet you could imagine. AO3 is pretty much a household name now, at least for any Gen Z or millennial with some degree of online presence. And as fan fiction has become more mainstream, there’s also seemingly been a push by some users for AO3 to keep up technologically. More specifically, for the archive to function … well, more like TikTok. Picture a “for you” page greeting you as you log in to the archive. It automatically recommends your next fanfic to read, like an oh-so-helpful friend plucking a book off the shelf for you that they just know you’ll love.
Let’s be clear though: This idea isn’t going to see the light of day. “An algorithm is never going to happen,” Claudia Rebaza, a volunteer for AO3’s parent group, the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW), tells me outright. But the debate about whether AO3 should have an algorithm reveals what’s special about fan fiction and the importance of maintaining a space where creative works can just exist.
I get it. As someone born in 1997, it’s hard to remember a time before algorithms, rankings, and personalized recommendations. It feels like every place on the internet is trying to become more like TikTok, from Instagram with its Reels (until Kylie Jenner complained) to Twitter’s “for you” feed. For better or worse, the world today feels deeply online. When nearly every aspect of our lives feels optimized, it makes sense that some want fan fiction to keep up with the times too.
But here’s the thing: AO3 isn’t social media. It’s simply a space that hosts an enormous collection of works. It’s basically a library on your phone. Being a nonprofit run entirely by volunteers distinguishes AO3 from other fan fiction sites like Wattpad, which is an entertainment company. “AO3 is designed to be an archive, not a social media site, and we’re a nonprofit that will also never run ads,” explains Rebaza. “So we’re not trying to make people spend more time on the site or make anything go viral.”
Another aspect that sets the archive apart is its lax content policy. While the site still draws the line at some content—explicit material of real minors, flat-out plagiarism—nearly all fanworks are allowed. The only major requirement is that users must tag works containing rape/non-con, graphic violence, major character death, or underage content (alternatively, authors can simply tag “Creator Chose Not to Archive Warnings”). But as long as it’s properly tagged, it’s probably permitted “no matter how awful, repugnant, or badly spelled we may personally find that Content to be,” per the site’s terms of services.
It’s a policy that has been both praised and criticized. But one of the reasons for AO3’s hands-off philosophy is that fan fiction has historically faced a great deal of opposition and censorship. For instance, Fanfiction.net (FF.net), one of the first major fanfic sites on the web, banned all works based on anything by Interview with the Vampire author Anne Rice after she reportedly threatened legal action. (The law as it pertains to fan fiction is murky, but OTW believes nonprofit, transformative works fall under “fair use.”) In 2002, FF.net began implementing a strict “no NC-17 content” policy. Then in 2012, the site famously deleted a large number of stories, presumably ones deemed too mature. The move was widely coined the FF.Net purge by fans, and it sparked concerns about potentially disproportionately affecting authors of slash (same-gender pairing fics).
AO3 is one of the few remaining places on the internet where you alone are responsible for curating the content you consume. You’re armed with only a search bar and the use of tags and filters, sent out into the Forbidden Forest to find whatever your heart desires. And sure, that may feel like a daunting task, especially if you’re used to the likes of TikTok. But part of the beauty of it being algorithmless is that you can hand-pick the works you’re looking for and also easily avoid content you don’t want to see. If AO3 were to implement an algorithm, it’s highly likely you would encounter a lot more content you would have otherwise filtered out, scrolled past, or simply just been blissfully unaware of.
An AO3 algorithm could present a problem not just for readers, but for creators as well. Harassment has long been an issue in fandom, but it feels more intense and intimate in the social media age. In the early 2000s, ship wars and heated discourse mostly lived within the confines of forums, under usernames that nobody would care enough about to track down. Now? Not so much. Hollie, a moderator for the 329,000-member group r/fanfiction on Reddit, tells me how she’s seen things change over the 15 years she’s been involved with fandom. “Fandom has become more clustered into a smaller number of spaces, rather than being able to easily separate into different groups. [So] people with very different interests and takes overlap,” she says. “Don’t get me wrong, there were ‘sporking’ (mocking fics) sites back in the day, as well as bullying and ship wars, but for the most part, people complained in their own groups about how terrible their rival ship was or how gross they found certain kinks or whatever. They didn’t usually go to the creators/shippers’ social media and fics to complain at them.” (Plus, if your fandom self is even slightly intertwined with your public persona, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that you will at some point be harassed, threatened, or even doxxed over fictional characters.)
An algorithm would only further knock down these walls. If someone really dislikes a ship or trope for whatever reason, one might assume they would go out of their way to avoid such content by using tags and filters, or simply interact only with fans who have similar taste. But if the algorithm shows people something they hate, they might feel more inclined to engage with that content and go out of their way to make it known just how much they hate it.
There’s something quietly beautiful about AO3 not making it easy for us to snap our fingers and have a personalized story recommendation fall into our laps. I’d liken browsing the archive to wandering into a bookstore, picking a novel off the shelf, and being pleasantly surprised by how good it is. Sure, you might head to a genre you know you enjoy or gravitate toward a familiar author or friend’s recommendation. But when it comes down to it, you picked the book. Maybe an algorithm would have found a story you liked just as much, maybe not.
Algorithms and modern technology can be convenient for discovering new content and tailoring things to your personal taste, but they can also impose their own limits. Sure, streaming is great—but are we really taking advantage of this infinite amount of content if all we see is Netflix’s top 10 and Recommended for You tab? Or are we perhaps missing out on shows we would have enjoyed, if only we’d known about them before they were canceled after one season due to (supposedly) low viewership? Is the skill-based matchmaking algorithm used in multiplayer online games like Call of Duty actually helping us enjoy gameplay more? Or is it ruining video games altogether?
If you’re on TikTok, you’ve likely experienced seeing a video on your “for you” page that you never would have clicked on yourself. Sometimes it’s merely annoying (no, I’m really not into watching people eat that Pink Sauce); other times, it can be outright distressing. For instance, if you’re into cute cats, the algorithm might think you actually want to see a viral video mocking domestic abuse. Algorithms often lack the ability to distinguish tone, and they generally don’t account for triggers or content warnings. It’s like shelving Stephen King’s It in children’s fiction just because the characters are kids.
Safety and practicality issues aside, an algorithm would ultimately just plain suck the fun out of AO3. I don’t want to see only the biggest, most popular content. I want to live in the corner of my little niche fandom, enjoying whatever weird things I like regardless of how many views, kudos, or comments are involved. In a world dominated by algorithms, stats, and virality, let me have my fan fiction.

Brief Writing Prompts FAQ!
As you all may have noticed, Writing Prompts have been posted with regularity over the past week, with a new format. In light of this, here's an FAQ (or, uh, a Would-be FAQ) about the writing prompts we post here on the Miraculous Fanworks tumblr!
Where do the prompts come from? The prompts come from out associated Discord Server, where we have a designated channel for people in our community to submit prompts for fanfiction. That's why each prompt has a "Prompt by:" section, indicating which of our server members was responsible for it. Not all prompts posted there get posted on the tumblr page, though. There's just too many. So instead we have a system where if a prompt has to get a certain amount of likes before it's put into the queue.
I made a prompt that's gotten enough likes on the server, why has it not been posted yet? Patience, grasshopper. Even with our restrictions on what can and cannot be posted, we still have a LOT of prompts in our backlog. We're slowly but surely making our way through. To ensure viewers of the tumblr page get a constant stream of content in the mean time, we put all the prompts in a queue set to update a couple times a day. Your prompt will make it onto the page eventually!
I made a prompt that was published on the page, but you didn't credit me correctly. What do I do? Simply reach out to us, and we will do our best to fix the mistake! We credit people mostly based on the usernames and/or nicknames they use on Discord (hence the lack of tumblr or ao3 profile links), so if you'd rather be credited differently then please tell us! You get to be properly credited, and we ensure that our records are accurate. Everyone wins!
Can I write a fanfiction (or otherwise create fan content) based off these prompts? Yes, absolutely, that is what they are here for. Just make sure to give some credit to the prompt's creator! (And if you feel like giving us a shout-out too, well, we certainly won't mind!)
Are prompts posted to the tumblr exactly the way they were posted in the discord server? We try to maintain as much of the original formatting as possible when copying prompts over, unfortunately in some cases that's just not possible. The most common example of this is when people incorporate Discord formatting or emojis into the prompt. It's common practice for people to use our custom character emojis for script-format prompts, and since we obviously can't use those on the tumblr such posts are edited to maintain the intention of the original as much as possible. If a prompt is preceded by a comment from its a creator saying it's a reference to something else on the server, than that comment will usually be removed or edited since tumblr users can't make use of them. Also, if there's a spelling or punctuation error that's particularly jarring then we'll fix it, but usually we try to leave the prompts as they are. If a prompt by you gets published with edits you do not approve of, then by all means reach out to us and we will fix it.
Who's posting all of these? Who's responsible for the prompt titles, and the tags? That would be me. Hi, I'm Maspers, one of the Miraculous Fanworks mods running the tumblr. Posting writing prompts (with editing if necessary) to the queue is my job. I'm also responsible for the majority of the titles given to the prompts, since usually the prompt creator doesn't make one themselves. If the title WAS created by the prompt's creator, it'll be in quotes (" ") and I'll make note of it in the tags. And yes, the tags are also my doing, since obviously those aren't present on Discord.
Why do I see a lot of the same names responsible for creating prompts? Isn't your community pretty big? It is pretty big. But as stated previously, the prompts posted here have to reach a certain amount of likes on the server first, and some people just have a knack for making good prompts! This goes for the stuff featured in the prompts too, some concepts and characters are just more popular. If you want to see even more prompts by even more people about an even bigger variety of Miraculous-related stuff, then come join our server and check out our writing prompts channel there!
I have a question about the writing prompts that isn't answered here. How do I get it answered? Reach out to us with your question, and we will do our best to answer it for you! The Miraculous Fanworks moderating team takes its job very seriously, and we want to ensure that everyone in our community feels like they can come to us for assistance. So don't hesitate to reach out!
Who thought putting Maspers in charge of managing the prompts was a good idea? He's insane. Look I'm just as surprised as you are, really.
Thanks so much for reading this brief FAQ about the Writing Prompts on this tumblr! We hope you continue to enjoy them! Have a nice day!
