Summary: Natasha finds a way to see Clint in the Raft before she goes on the run.

excerpt:

“You shouldn’t be here.” He gruffed into her ear.

She ignored him and assessed his injuries, touching the dried blood on his temple.

“Who did this?”

“Doesn't matter. Better me than the others." He dismissed, reacquainting himself with every soft curve of her body.

A flash of anger crossed her beautiful face but it instantly dissipated to misery.

“I’m sorry. This is all my fault.”

Barton shook his head.

“Quit blaming yourself for a war we couldn't prevent.”

Natasha did everything she could to stop Steve and Tony from fighting, including pitting Strike Team Delta against each other.

Clint vowed it would never happen again.

“They’re safe.” She whispered, eyes begging for forgiveness.

“Thank you,” he caressed a fading bruise still visible under her makeup, “but it’s you I’ve been worried about.”

“Wanda was right, you were pulling your punches.”

“Should've used a concussion arrow, flung you over my shoulder and ran."

"Next time I'll let you."

"Nat…" He engulfed her in his embrace, relieved to know she was okay.

"I'll fix this, I promise." Her voice was muffled against his chest.

He ran his hands up-and-down her back and arms, wondering if it soothed her as much as did him.

"I trust you have a plan. What's our next move?"

“The team is coming.” She looked up at him with a neutral expression.

“What do you need me to do?”

“Sit tight. Arrangements have been made for you and Scott.”

Clint frowned.

“What arrangements? What about the rest?”

“We’ll get them.”

Too vague, something was off.

“When? Who is we? Nat, what’s going on?”

Natasha took a deep breath.

“We made a plea deal for you and Scott, for house arrest.”

“What?” He growled, his grip on her hips becoming vice like. “Negative. We will not be separated again.”

“They have the farm under 24-hour surveillance. Ross threatened to bring in Laura and the kids and Scott's family if you both didn’t cooperate. Please, we had no choice."

Working against each other was the worst thing he ever had to do. Now she wanted him to go from one prison to another under the guise of a good family man?

Hawkeye refused to sit around and play house while, once again, his partner was out risking her life.

"And you?"

She avoided his gaze, which meant Natasha wasn't taking care of herself.

"Not important."

He hooked a finger under her chin.

"You are, especially to me."

Tears gathered in the corners of her lashes.

"It's best if you don't know."

"And why is that?" He fumed.

“Because I won't let you be tried for treason.”

“Which you will be if they catch you.”

"It was worth it."

Warning bells rang in his head.

“What are you not telling me, Widow?"

The guys showered in the master bathroom. He used the little one connected to Lila’s room because Captain America and Iron man did not need to smell like Princess Elsa body wash.

Clint wrapped a towel low on his hips and opened the door. A pleasant surprise waited. He didn’t bother to ask how she picked the lock.

"I almost joined you but it didn't seem the right time."

He would have preferred one of their post mission showers together.

Natasha sat on the double bed with bent knees and feet tucked under her legs in one of Laura’s old robes.

He hated that ratty, blue thing. However, now, his hands itched to touch it.

"Thought you were lying down. I used up all of the hot water, sorry."

"Should have joined you."

He couldn't hide his body's reaction. She must still be out of it. Nat would never be this bold in the house.

“The world saw me with Loki, I’ve been compromised. I have to go underground and disappear.”

“And you assume I’ll stay?” She stood and closed the distance between them.

He’d dreamt of them running away together, escaping the sham of a marriage he was forced into.

“What are you saying?”

“That I’m running with you. If that’s the plan, as far as you want.” She ran both hands up his chest, lacing her fingers behind his neck.

“Are you out of your mind? I can’t ask you to do that.” He gripped her waist without thought. “I’m not worth it, Natasha.”

“You are to me.”

It became hard to swallow. She did that to him, made him feel like he was more than a weapon to aim, more than a means to an end, more than a paycheck.

“I almost lost you,” she whispered, caressing the new patch of skin Dr. Cho graphed, “I can’t do that again. You go, I go.”

Barton told Loki everything about his life; SHIELD, the farm, including Laura and the kids. But it wasn’t the family Loki threatened to harm when Clint tried to resist.
