LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT MOBIUS WOULD CHOOSE
Here's the thing:
If given the choice, Mobius would 100% choose to stay with Loki at the End of Time instead of living his life out on the timelines.
It would be completely in-character for him to admit this and enthusiastically choose it because Loki has been Mobius's choice in almost every episode of the series with the exceptions of S1E3, S1E6, S2E4, and S2E5.
In S1, I think it's important to note that while working with Loki in S1E1 and S1E2 serves the TVA's purposes, both episodes hinge on Mobius wanting to believe in Loki in the first place. There is a stronger emotional undercurrent guiding all of Mobius's actions that is consistent through the S2 finale.
In S2, tellingly, the relationship firmly reciprocates with S2E1 through S2E6 showing Loki choosing Mobius, with particular attention in S2E4 and S2E5 (the very same episodes in which Mobius isnt given a plot opportunity to choose Loki). It's subtle, but the act of choosing Mobius actually begins as early as S1E4 (choosing to trust Mobius despite the memory loop torture and wanting his friendship). Loki's conviction in Mobius gradually increases alongside intensity through, once again, the S2 finale.
S1E1: Mobius chooses to save Loki from Renslayer and deletion. He chooses to believe Loki isn't a villain. The whole premise of the series relies on Mobius's belief and Mobius's choice to act on it.
S1E2: Mobius chooses to: 1.) believe in Loki's apocalypse theory, 2.) believe in Loki's deduction that Sylvie is hiding in Alabama, 3.) bring Loki out into field (where Loki's unpredictability and uncontrollability are highest; logically, Mobius should have left him at the TVA), 4.) give Loki his daggers.
S1E4: Mobius chooses to 1.) believe in Loki's claims that the TVA is lying, 2.) put his life on the line to free Loki and help Sylvie.
S1E5: Mobius chooses to bring Sylvie to Loki in the Void.
S2E1: Mobius chooses to 1.) prioritize Loki's health and well-being, 2.) put his life on the line to stop Loki's timeslipping.
S2E2: Mobius chooses to be: 1.) vulnerable with Loki, 2.) encourage Loki's cunning and more terrifying qualities.
S2E3: Mobius chooses to encourage Loki's use of magic.
S2E4: Loki chooses Mobius. Tom choosing to place himself between Sylvie and the pies (protecting Mobius when he is vulnerable) was a lovely choice.
S2E5: Loki chooses Mobius. I'm so annoyed I can't find the gif of Loki talking about how Mobius should have a choice.
S2E6: Mobius chooses to leave the TVA because Loki is no longer there and looks at his original timeline, as Loki gently encouraged him to.
Mobius would choose Loki at the End of Time in a heartbeat. What other option would he choose?

Okay, I wanna talk about this scene and what it might mean for Loki and Mobius in S2.
Sure, they stood here so Loki could point at the panel showing all the Kangs fighting, and the full mural is meant to be the story of how the Time Keepers created order out of chaos, but what if it also means something else.
Let's look at Mobius first, then Loki.
Mobius POV
Mobius is standing with his back to a panel representing chaos and looking at one that represents order, showing the Time Keepers appearing as gods to shocked people below. Seems very religious and mythological, right?
"If you think too hard about where any of us came from, who we truly are, it sounds kinda ridiculous."
Mobius had always believed in order and that what the TVA were doing, ripping people from their lives, was necessary.
He also has previously likened Loki's origins, which is literal mythology in mcu form, as similar to his own experiences in the TVA.
What he isn't aware of is who exactly was behind the curtain or that all-out war is coming. That's something Loki reveals to Mobius, showing him the truth in his blindspot (the panel behind him).
Now, he knows the Time Keepers are fake, that he wasn't created by them. By this point in the episode, he's already acknowledged to B-15 that their gods are dead.
This revelation for Mobius feels pretty similar to how the truth was revealed to Loki in S1E1.
Mobius is also looking at a panicked Loki. He's seen him teary-eyed before, but not this distressed.
What Mobius sees before him is his fear, that Loki won't be able to escape the bonds of the sacred timeline, that he's doomed to die, and that pains him.
And one last thing. Loki is a god of mischief, and I can't help thinking about the comparison of a real god Mobius can see in front of him and the fake Time Keepers in the panel behind Loki.
Loki POV
Meanwhile, Loki is looking at chaos that scares him. The panel has several Kangs all fighting for supremacy in a pose that was similar to that shown by Kang in S1E6.
Loki is the god of mischief, who thrives on chaos, and yet the prospect of all these Kangs frightens him.
War is the only thing preoccuping his mind. It's the only thing he can see.
But behind him are the Time Keepers, and we know they are fake, but what if the truth Loki has to face is that while he no longer wants a throne, he might need to take it to save the people he cares for, his found family.
Loki is looking at Mobius, who's concerned about him and a little rattled, but ultimately keeping his calm. I think this calm is likely to fracture the more season 2 progresses.
What Loki sees before him is his fear, that Mobius will be caught up in the war and lost to him. It's a reminder of what's at stake if he doesn't restore order. And he's already experienced a Mobius who didn't know him, and that was heartbreaking.
What this scene also does is continue both Loki and Mobius being mirrors for each other, revealing truth and reflecting one another.
They are similar to each other in many ways. We saw glimpses of Mobius embracing chaos in S1, which I always love to see. And I can't wait to see more of these soulmates. They are important to one another.

And I haven't even spoken about all the touching, that Mobius doesn't want to lose Loki and Loki is just so desperate to get to Mobius, but I think other people have covered that.
And just a wee note to everyone that this is just me theorising, and usually my theories do not happen, but I couldn't help pondering if this mural had an even deeper meaning. I just like theorising for fun.

no because im rewatching season 1 and i know this doesn’t follow lokis “glorious purpose” arc, but damn i kind of wish sylvie was the one on the throne at the end of time instead of loki. Since she killed HWR and essentially summoned infinite timelines, shouldn’t she atleast follow through and take up the responsibility of carrying out this desire?? See i understand life isnt fair but man rewatching s1e6 and seeing Loki begging her to consider the circumstances they’re in, i feel that glorious purpose shouldve been sylvies cause in a way she represented the people like her who had their lifes stolen by the TVA. Lokis whole gist was not wanting to be alone while sylvies was to escape everyone and everything, and look where they are now.
Not only that but Sylvie is Loki, therefore having the power that Loki has. It wouldn’t exactly be impossible for her to hold the timelines together. Realistically though Sylvie has been through enough suffering all her life and I wouldn’t want to do that to her. But do I want Loki to suffer the consequences of her ill-thought actions? absolutely not. I feel Loki was willing to accept the pain of his past and be a better person while Sylvie took hers and turned it into revenge.

Steve had a lot of time to mull over his mistakes while he was with the Time Variance Authority. In hindsight, time travel was a mistake. His motivation was clear, but the attempt, he realized, was misguided. He couldn’t knowingly let Bucky be captured by Hydra, or leave Natasha at the nonexistent mercy of The Red Room, or let Thanos snap away half a universe if there was even half a chance he could stop those things from ever happening. Even knowing they were long shots didn’t change his mind. Steve had never been intimidated by long odds.
But as it turned out, the Time Variance Authority didn’t just let people meddle in timelines. It didn’t matter how good his intentions had been when he went back. The Avengers, apparently, were on thin ice with them already. It was always Steve's plan to return to his own time when he was finished. He had people who needed him there, and from what he understood, changing the past created new timelines rather than changing the future. (To be fair, he'd only understood a fraction of Scott, Bruce, and Tony's conversation on it. The mechanics of time travel were well above his paygrade.)
It had taken time to learn the place and its routines, time to figure out a plan. Steve always had a plan, and it didn’t involve sitting in jail for the rest of his life, being retconned from his own timeline, or playing along indefinitely with what was obviously a fascist organization. He'd gone along with Morbius's requests at first to buy himself some time to figure this place out, and every variant's life they destroyed added to the seething anger in him. He didn't know what the ultimate end goal of the place was, or why they considered it a sacred duty to protect the timeline, but Steve did know that people in power almost always thought they were doing good and that they rarely wanted to give it up.
The plan did, unfortunately, involve a time and space jumping god of mischief who also needed to escape. Long story short, Steve hadn't been sorry to help Loki tear the place down, and now he may or may not owe a favor to the trickster Asgardian. As far as he could tell, Steve landed in the same place as when he’d left, but it was immediately obvious that it wasn’t the same time. Nobody was there, for one thing, and the season had changed. He lowered his head and, quietly but with feeling, uttered a word he almost never said.
How much time had passed? If he was lucky, it was the same number of days that had passed while he was with the TVA, which would put him at around four months. He tried not to wince at the idea of leaving Bucky and the others wondering where he was in all that time and why he hadn’t returned. He hated to think what that had done to his friends on the heels of the Battle of Earth and its losses. He didn’t know yet that the TVA had strategies in place to keep anyone from even looking for him. Steve kept his head down on the walk home and tried not to draw attention to himself. He didn’t have keys or a wallet or a phone or even shoes, for that matter, so his apartment was his best idea. If it was even still his apartment.
The door was locked, the spare key not in its usual place, so after a quick, silent apology, he broke the lock and stepped inside with the hope that he wasn’t breaking into someone else’s home. It was a relief to see it was mostly as he’d left it, though it was clear someone had been there. He wondered if that person was Bucky. What he wanted more than anything right now was to talk to his best friend, to hear his voice and know he was fine. He briefly scoured the place for his phone and came up empty. He hadn’t had it on him when he went to return the stones, and it wasn’t where he’d left it. He dug out one of the burners from the emergency stuff and plugged it in to charge. Two years of being on the run and being friends with Natasha had left him slightly paranoid but prepared. He could disappear again if he had to, but with as hard as he’d worked to get back here, he hoped he didn’t have to.
Weariness insisted he sit down for a few minutes while he came up with a plan, so he grabbed a tablet off the desk and sank onto the couch to scroll through the recent news feed for information about what he’d missed. The date registered, roughly matching with what he’d expected, and sadness mingled with frustration and relief that it hadn’t been longer. He never wanted to be in another spaceship or another timeline, ever. Some lessons came harder to him than others, but he considered that one learned. The hard way, because apparently that was the only way he knew how to do it, but learned. He didn’t mean to fall asleep, and he jerked awake when the tablet pinged an alert to find that night had fallen. His head was clearer though, and he quickly scanned the update before rising to change his clothes. He pulled on a jacket and as an afterthought grabbed a baseball cap. He wasn’t planning to interfere, and he didn’t want to be noticed. Not tonight when all eyes should be on Captain America.
He did want to be there to see it though. He tucked the phone into his pocket and headed further into the city. There were already crowds of people forming along with the general chaos of news vans and police cars, and it was easy to fade in among them, just one in a faceless crowd. He couldn’t help a smile as he watched Sam’s speech from a distance, pride filling him for both his friends. He’d always known Bucky was a hero; now everyone did, and passing the shield along to Sam before he left, at least, had been the right move. He’d never had a doubt about that. He’d find a way to give his congratulations later though. Tonight wasn’t about him, and he wasn’t going to intrude on the victory. If Steve was lucky, it would never be about him again. He drifted to the edge of the crowd, glancing back once more before he turned and headed for home.

Hey y'all, working on something right now (article wannabe) we don't even know how to call it because it's kinda chaotic. Anyways:
"I've gone through every scenario. TVA is the way" - HWR, S1E6. Is that what Loki and the others are going to do in the following episodes? Go through different scenarios to prevent the Loom from exploding?
What if the end of S2E6 is the beginning of S1, and is it all just a loop? (ok, not likely, since the producers of the show confirmed this won't end on a cliffhanger/ will have an actual conclusion, but still??)
That one scene from the trailer with Loki out in the radiation of the Loom WITHOUT even a suit on is haunting me
Miss Minutes : "You'll never be him". Did she know Timely was going to die, and was it part of whatever plan HWR set up?
Alright, Lokius might not be canon. But at this point there are so many little details and shots of them it's impossible not to see it, so let me listen to their track on spotify while eating apple pie.

Thinking about the orange/golden fireworks that symbolize Mobius in s1e3 and the green fireworks that represent Frigga when Loki was talking about how much she believed in him, just like Mobius does. Also thinking about Loki's golden ornate dagger that Kid Loki hands him in s1e5, the same dagger that's deliberately in every close up of Mobius during their hug, that erupts into a flaming dagger after Mobius specifically says “thanks for the spark,” about how he carries the golden dagger with him throughout s1e6 (only when he drops it does sylvie betray him, AND there is intentionally NO DAGGER during the betrayal kiss, deliberately showing the emptiness of the harness) and how Loki's throne is golden and how Mobius has a heart of gold. Thinking about how, for Loki, “love is a dagger” and the tva's symbol is a golden dagger (symbol of Mobius’ and Loki's love for each other) impaling a Mobius strip, aka an infinity symbol (Loki and Mobius’ love being infinite, endless, for all time) with two eyes staring ahead (Loki watching over Mobius on the sacred timeline). LOVE IS A DAGGER. 🗡🔥⏳

Asks like this make me so happy because stopping to pick up on all the details and parallels of their relationship is unbelievable, it's why I sometimes end up summarizing every scene they've shared throughout both seasons in replies because they really didn't waste a second showing how the impact of knowing each other is this giant ripple effect on every aspect of their lives from that moment on?? Never seen a ship portrayed in such a way where both parties somehow manage to gravitate around each other even when they're not physically together, it's just a natural, unspoken fact their presence has essentially become the grounding force of every move and decision they make from that point forward and I can't imagine finding anything more romantic in a piece of media for as long as I live.
(Also LOVE IS A DAGGER 🗡🔥⏳ because of course it is and Loki is such a dork I know he'd probably think of that phrase at least ten times a day trying to come up with a smoother way of explaining it to Mobius 😂)

LET'S TALK ABOUT WHO LOKI CHOOSES
I've previously discussed romantic tropes in the Loki series in my meta here. This meta supports the former by counting each of Loki's decisions with each of Loki's love interests (Sylvie and Mobius) and where those decisions occur in the progression of the overall story of S1 and S2 combined. The end of S1 is the midpoint of the whole story. Bear this in mind as I track how Loki's decision-making shifts. You can even choose to view Loki's decision-making with respect to Mobius as platonic if you want. It doesn't change the plot, count, or character development.
I have to give Sylvie attention and credit where it is due. To not do so would not only ignore her legitimate importance in the series and Loki's development, but it would also undermine my own credibility as an essayist. Feel free to comment, but here are my ground rules: no hate and no yucking other people's yum.
S1E1: Loki chooses himself. We could make the argument Loki chooses to trust Mobius here, but I don't think we see Loki start to like Mobius as a person until S1E2.
S1E2: Loki straddles between choosing himself and choosing to help Mobius because he actually wants to. It helps that the latter serves self-preservation. Loki most obviously chooses himself when he bullshits Mobius at the RenFaire. His choice is more gray when proposing the apocalypse theory. To be conservative, I won't count this in Mobius's favor. However, I feel fairly confident Loki chooses to help Mobius (1) sift through the possible apocalypses because of this genuine reaction:
Loki is starved for praise. He's a centuries-old god for goodness sakes.
When a third option presents itself at Roxxcart, Loki chooses himself and Sylvie (1).
S1E3: Loki chooses to: 1.) help Sylvie through "attempting diplomacy" with the widow (2), 2.) help Sylvie with his "shit plan" disguise (3), 3.) be vulnerable with Sylvie on the train (4), 4.) sing Sylvie a song (5), 5.) help Sylvie get to the arc (6).
S1E4: Loki chooses to comfort Sylvie by holding her hand; their feelings for each other trigger a giant Nexus Event (7). Loki chooses to tell Mobius the truth about the TVA; if he didn't care about Mobius, he would have withheld this information (2). Loki chooses to trust Mobius (3). Loki chooses to reciprocate Mobius’s feelings of friendship (4). Loki chooses, with Mobius, to find and rescue Sylvie (8). Loki chooses to combat Renslayer with Sylvie (9). Loki chooses to confront the Timekeepers with Sylvie and gets pruned (10).
S1E5: Loki chooses to share a blanket with Sylvie (11). Loki chooses to stay in the Void and follow Sylvie to the end of time, "Where you go, I go" (12). Loki chooses to hug Mobius (5). Loki chooses to trust Sylvie's insistence that he intrinsically knows how to enchant (13).
S1E6 (THE MIDPOINT): The confrontation with HWR is tricky. Loki chooses to slow down and think about the consequences because he's learned the value of slowing down and thinking from Mobius (6). Loki chooses to kiss Sylvie back (I realize this is debatable for many Lokius fans, but I'm not going to argue this; 14)
S2 NOTES: For the sake of my own sanity, I am not counting Loki's unconscious and conscious timeslipping. You can refer to the counts for that in my meta here. I will also not be counting the near-infinite number of loops Loki refuses to kill Sylvie for "the good of the multiverse."
S2E1: Loki chooses to seek out Mobius for help (7). Loki chooses to be vulnerable with Mobius in the hallway (8). Loki chooses to trust Mobius's judgment that they only have one shot at stopping the timeslipping (9).
S2E2: Loki chooses to protect Mobius from Brad (10). Loki chooses to help Mobius reverse-engineer Brad's TemPad (11). Loki chooses to comfort Mobius in the pie automat (12). Loki chooses to follow Mobius's intimidation plan for Brad (13). Loki chooses to convince Sylvie to join his and the TVA's cause (Sylvie declines #1; 15). Loki chooses to hold hands with Sylvie to combine their blast power (16). Loki chooses to follow Mobius back to the TVA (14). Loki chooses to ask Sylvie to stay and help (Sylvie declines #2; 17). Loki chooses to comfort Mobius in the Control Room (15).
S2E3: Loki chooses to humor Mobius's sightseeing (16). Loki chooses to try cracker jack (and hates it; 17). Loki chooses to prioritize the Loom per Mobius’s advisement (18). Loki chooses to give into Mobius's tandem bike request (19). Loki chooses to plead with Sylvie to spare Timely and asks for her help (NOTE: this is Loki's 3rd request; writers love the significance of threes and Sylvie turns Loki down all three times; 18).
S2E4: Loki chooses to defend Mobius in the Pie Automat (20). Loki chooses to compare (through implication) Thor's relationship with Jane with his relationship with Mobius (21). Loki chooses to use this same comparison to assure Sylvie that her mercy on Timely was an act of mercy for all people on all timelines (19).
S2E5: Loki chooses to look for Mobius in the Pie Automat (22). Loki chooses to look for Mobius in the Control Room (23). Loki chooses to recruit Mobius (24). Loki chooses to quote Mobius's "form and function" to Don (25), Loki chooses to help Mobius through the time door (26). Loki chooses to promise Don (Mobius) that he can return him to any point in time (27). Loki chooses to recruit Sylvie (20; she turns him down a 4th time). Loki chooses to argue with Sylvie that Mobius should have a choice (28). Loki chooses to listen to Sylvie that his friends are better off without the TVA (21). Loki chooses to let Don go for Mobius’s own good (29). Loki chooses to control timeslipping upon hearing Sylvie say "Do you think what makes a Loki a Loki is that we're destined to lose?" (22). Loki chooses to rewrite the story to save Sylvie and Mobius (23 / 30, respectively).
S2E6: Loki chooses to reenact all of Mobius's small gestures of kindness even though they cost precious time: he chooses to hold Victor's glasses (31), he chooses to compliment OB's "not to scale" model (32), he chooses to recite an abbreviated version of his and Mobius's bickering over "who's in the suit?" (33), he chooses to finish Mobius's joke about taking OB's job (34). He chooses to seek out Past Mobius for guidance and comfort (35). He chooses to shake Mobius's hand (36). He chooses to talk Sylvie out of killing HWR (24). He chooses to sacrifice himself to save Sylvie and Mobius (25 / 37, respectively). He chooses to listen (and watch?) to Mobius say, "Let time pass" (38).
Loki chooses Sylvie: 25
Loki chooses Mobius: 38
If I missed any decision points for either Sylvie or Mobius, let me know and I'll update the meta and counts accordingly.
Ultimately, Loki's sacrifice is for BOTH Mobius AND Sylvie. BOTH ships are important to the narrative and Loki. However, between the two of them, there is only one person who has consistently chosen Loki since S1E1, never rejected Loki and his requests for help, and who has, in turn, unknowingly been chosen by Loki in kind. Can Mobius, B15, Casey & OB return to their lives on the timeline?
So some of us have watched the mid-season trailer (so trailer spoilers ahead) which appears to show the team living lives somewhere on the timelines.
Loki putting the band back together?
It’s been speculation for a while that Loki would go back in time and recruit the team post S2e4 - and this looks like that playing out. Note this is in *the past* from our narrative pov - it’s obvious from the clip of Loki & Mobius that Mobius does not know what the TVA is.
So it looks like Loki is the person who took them from the timeline in the first place - but remember they will still need to live all their TVA lives. And it creates another paradox Loki is only taking them because of all their interactions with Loki in S1 & 2. It follows that s1&2 have to happen for them to be taken but they have to be taken for s1 & 2 to happen - round and round we go.
Branches have to be pruned
We know, from how the TVA operates in S1, this intervention by Loki will cause a nexus event and the branched timeline will be pruned. For example B15 appears to be a doctor on the sacred timeline. Let’s say Loki comes to recruit her to the TVA. This will cause a branch - one version of B15 will remain a doctor on the sacred timeline - the branched timeline created by the event will be pruned - and B15 is marooned in the TVA with no timeline to return to. The same is true of all the others.
There will exist a Mobius on the sacred timeline in his jet ski shop. But TVA!Mobius has undergone a nexus event, TVA!Mobius’ branch would have been / has/ will always be pruned - he is marooned in the TVA. There is no where for them to return. Example we have already seen is Renslayer. We saw sacredtimeline!Renslayer as a teacher in S1e6 - TVA!Renslayer can’t return because sacredtimeline!Renslayer is there (she never left) and TVA!Renslayer’s branch would have been pruned.
Does Mobius contradict himself?
I think this also explains the difference between Mobius initial reaction in s1e4 where he says to Renslayer if he could really go anywhere he’d go back to where he’s “really from.” The problem is (as he explains in S2e2) that’s actually impossible that is not “his life” it’s sacredtimeline!Mobius’ life and the branch would have been destroyed. It’s not a contradiction or continuity error - s1e4 response one was a fantasy and the other an acknowledgment of reality (according to the rules as we know them).
Options for the team
Unless they change the rules somehow (magic?) the TVA team should *not* be able to return. Options they have are (1) start a new life like a Sylvie did (or X5 though (2) I think there’s a possibility TVA!X5 killed sacredtimeline!X5.
If there’s a magic reset button allowing them to return to the point they left I think it would badly undercut the emotional impact of the central idea in season 2 - that pruning the branches was killing people. It would also be a more dramatic / heroic story for the TVA team that they literally gave up living that life.
From a character point of view - working for the TVA for centuries should also make it emotionally impossible to go back to a former life as if nothing happened. The only way to overcome that obstacle would be another memory wipe - possible as we know, but memory wipes give me the creeping horrors so would not be a “happy” ending from my point of view.
Of course they could push the magic reset and hand wave the character change issue but I really hope not - they have not been afraid to be dark his season and a reset “it was all a dream” sort of ending would be really lame.
Conclusion!
In conclusion I don’t think they will return to their lives (they can’t) but I can’t say what will happen or if they will even be able to break the time loop effectively.
Final note to add I now think Loki gives Mobius his name (“it’s what [he] answers to”). And I will watch Ep 5 & 6 to see this play out if for no other reason.
