I got inspired by a certain season to request this. Can I request headcanons of Yugi, Yami and Kaiba reacting to their S/O joining an evil organization and challenging them to a duel please? (Whether it's their own volition or their being brainwash, is up to you~)

I love battle city so I went with Marik controlling them for this! Lets go boys and ghouls hehehehehe

Content: Yugi x gn!Reader, Yami Yugi x gn!Reader, Seto Kaiba x gn!Reader (separate)

Warnings: Mentions of attempted amputation, drowning, and beheading

Notes: Sorry this took so long! I couldn't decide what to do for Yugi's part for a very long time!

❥Yugi

He pushed the pharaoh away from this duel. He wanted to save you, just as he saved Joey.

He may even tune out his friends to save you, or split off from them completely. He loves his friends, but he loves you more.

He demands Marik release you, and when he doesn't, he goes through with the duel.

He wins, expectedly, and when he sees a saw heading straight for your neck he wails out in terror.

"Y/N! NO!" He rushes forward and tugs you onto the floor just before the saw rips past.

In your confusion, you blink open your eyes and look up at Yugi. "Yu...Yugi...?"

"I'm here, I'm here. You're safe now." His tears streamed down his face as he slowly lifted you up.

He put a hand on your cheek and went in for a long kiss. The cries of his friends interruped him, making both of you turn and look at Joey, Tristan and Tea. Joey spoke first. "Y/n! Yugi! You okay?!"

"We're fine!" Yugi yelled from across the arena, then turned back to you. "I'll make sure nothing like that happens to you again."

"What...even happened?" You asked.

"I'll explain when we leave. I'm just so happy you're safe." He wiped his own tears away, then took you by the hand and led you out of there.

❥Yami Yugi

You mean so much to him, so much that he didn't allow Yugi to take over for this duel. He would rescue you himself, and then tear Marik apart.

Yami cursed Marik as he took over your every move and forced you to duel in a death trap.

He knew he had to beat you in order to have Marik relinquish control over you. As soon as he summoned Dark Magician, the duel was over.

The trap Marik had you in forced you under water, but in a tank. Not open water like Joey's.

Yami dove into the tank after you plunged. Marik released control of your mind, making you try to gasp for breath. In your confusion, you swallowed a lot of water.

Yami swam as fast as he could to you, hooked his hands under your arms and began trying to pull you up. His own strength could only take him so far, but before he knew it, Joey and Tristan had jumped in to help. Together, the three men pulled you out of the tank.

You coughed up some water after being turned on your side so you wouldn't choke. Yami held you close as you did, shaking and holding in tears.

"I thought I lost you forever..." He whispered.

"I'm here, I'm here..." You spoke reassuringly to both Yami and yourself.

"And you're not going anywhere without me." Yami tightened his hold just a little bit.

❥Seto Kaiba

He hates this. This is just like Mokuba being kidnapped, but you're right there.

You're right there but he can't reach you.

He doesn't know whether to beat you or let you win so you can be spared. It brings him back to his own antics towards Yugi during Duelist Kingdom.

Except you're not doing this of your own volition, he knows you aren't. He doesn't normally believe in supernatural things, but this is different.

He decides to beat you. While the duel goes on, he has a plan in his mind to free you from the trap as well as himself.

When he beats you, Marik laughs in your mind as he lets go of your mind control, thinking you're about to die. Seto however, springs into action, freeing you from getting a limb chopped off.

You have no idea what's going on, and honestly you feel really dizzy and your vision is blurry. Seto holds you close, calming down slowly knowing you're alive in his arms.

"S...Seto?" You asked, looking up at him.

Your vision was slowly coming back to you, and you recognized his white jacket. He didn't say anything for a moment, just continued to hold you. Then he spoke.

"It's okay, I have you now. Let's get out of here." Seto stands with you in his arms, leaving the building.

"What...happened?"

Seto begins to tell you the events leading up to the duel, how Marik had somehow possessed you and forced you to duel to the death with him, but he had managed to free both you and him. He then informed you that you were not to leave his side for the rest of his tournament.

Yu-gi-oh Boys with an S/o who beats them in a duel but won’t do a rematch

Yugi Muto

You guys played against each other as fun for a little date idea and it ended up with you winning

While Yugi wasn’t going as hard as he usually tries, he did try a little so you winning would be seen as an accomplishment between the two of you

Honestly he didn’t really care that much

He loves you too much and is just happy that you’re happy

He’s the type of boyfriend that brags about his S/o’s accomplishments

Even if you don’t think it was that big of a deal

He started to move on from it until Joey brought up that you should have a rematch

To be fair Yugi just thought of it as a little fun game but now with his friends watching but unbeknownst to him, you didn’t feel the same

Which was the perfect opportunity for Joey to pick at your skin

Despite both of you loving the same person (just in a different way) you two absolutely hated eachother

Which is honestly surprising

It’s because you’re both jealous of each other

He noticed how unwilling you were to do it but he didn’t really bat an eye, if you don’t want to do something then he’s not going to make you

He talked to you about it later though and no matter you’re reason, he tried to understand

As long as you tell he what’s going on and are honest, he’ll never be mad at you

Yami Yugi

Let’s be honest here he let you win

You know it, I know it, he definitely knows it

It doesn’t really matter how good of a player you are, he just wants you to be happy

As long as you’re happy, he’s happy

However the only problem was how obvious it was that he was letting you win

He might have thought of it as a sweet gesture, but to you he was just humiliating you

I mean in front of all your friends, your boyfriend is purposely losing because he know you can’t win???

You talked to him about it and he offered to have a rematch which you found sweet but said no to

Your hopes where crushed after he tried to let you win and you were still having difficulty

You’re not afraid to cheer him on from the stands though

He’s so fine like dios mío

Joey Wheeler

It’s was just embarrassing how easy you could win against him

It took no longer than ten minutes and it left him him feeling humiliated

He just wanted to show off his skills

No only to you but also to his friend but it didn’t really turn out that way

You and him definitely had to cuddle at your house to make him less sad

Sure it was fun to win your little game between you two but you also felt bad at how sad and disappointed you got

You also didn’t want to purposely let him win because you were never a good liar so when he found out it would only make him feel worse

Instead you just never played with him again

It didn’t matter how many times he asked or why, you weren’t playing against him

He tried everything from bribery to begging and above

He just wanted to show off his skills but you never played against him

You watched him play against others and commented on how better he was getting though which made him happy enough

There might have been one or two times where you did give in and played against him but you let him win both times which pissed him off but you found it kind of funny

Seto Kaiba

Let’s be real here you cheated

Or at least that’s what Seto likes to think

It doesn’t matter how tired he was when playing a simple game against you for mokuba he hands down believes you cheated

Like if he had to say you didn’t cheat or jump off a cliff, he choose the cliff

He also refuses to talk about it

No way in hell would be ever talk about it with you

He rather be friends with Yugi

He straight up did not talk to you for a week until you told him you cheated which didn’t but you just wanted him to talk to you again

The only thing you cheated on were your exams at school

It made him feel a little better and he asked you to go again but this time no tricks and twists

He wanted to show off to Mokuba who kept talking about the match

But when you said no, he got mad all over again

Honestly nothing you do is ever right with this man istg ☠️

mokuba: there's a spider in my shower.

mokuba: i should ask niisama to kill it. he promised to protect me. he told me he was my father now. i can't hold him to that, he was ten. he's failed in so many ways, and he's succeeded in so many others. and we're happy now. we're safe. we have everything we need. there are kaibalands all over the world. still, i need him to prove he's looking out for me. if only to know if he's changed. but maybe i should just kill it myself. he worries so much. if he thinks i don't even have the guts to kill a spider, how will he ever trust me to strike out on my own? could i ever leave him anyway? should i? will we ever feel safe enough to leave each other? i don't want to leave him. he's my brother. he's the only person i love. i wish i had more friends, like real friends, like whatever yuugi and his little geeks have. they're so lame. but they stick up for each other. they're nice because they want to be. i don't really get it, honestly. do yuugi and his friends kill spiders for each other? isn't that what we all want - to cry for help, and hear someone answer us? sometimes seto couldn't answer me. sometimes he refused. it's not his fault. it's never been his fault. but he hates it when i say that. he's doing better. he really is. do i really need him to prove it? it's not even a big spider. i can squish it myself. i'm not even that scared. i'm not a little kid. i'm the fucking vice president of kaiba corporation, for fuck's sake.

if requests are still open, and if it's okay for me to ask for a follow-up; Can I ask how thankful the boys would be for the time-breaker S/O's UM during their daily lives ? slice of life, fluff, goofy "moments before disaster" saved by S/Os UM, all those good things :D I've been thinking about a few highlights, like... Slowing time around the table area during an unbirthday party because Ace ALMOST crashed into the table; S/O uses their unique magic to get up and hold him by the back of his jacket in time to yank him back onto his feet; S/O is now a mandatory attendant to all unbirthday parties as result... (On the bright side, Riddle looks a whole lot more relaxed now) Cheka tries to ambush S/O and Leona when he takes them home to meet the family. S/O turns around in slow motion during Cheka's leap; now S/O is gently holding the young boy by the back of his shirt, nonchalantly smug, "To be fair, i think was a good attempt?" (Leona knows he must not laugh but what the fuckLMFAO- ) Jamil's list of daily "Almost-s" is no longer a threat to his heart with S/O around, but the way his S/O delivers news to him by throwing letters Kaiba-style only to freeze them in place almost does it; but its the good news that make his heart jump this time (the news itself is up to you but i'm imagining smth along the lines of "Kalim's older siblings came back from buying milk and made some new friends who decided to be guards lmfao you can just work halftime now, congrats" written in a royal way) ...these boys better give their S/O a hug and some kisses for all that effort, honestly

Goodness, I thought this would be fast to right since I'd just finished the last one but it took me the same amount of time. Anyway, here is a part 2 for this story.

Making a Moment Last Afterwards

Life as a magical prefect has its perks. How do things change between you and your sweetheart after your confession?

Riddle had always saw his future as that of a magical doctor, fixing people who were injured or broken. Maybe that is why the way you use your ability to prevent injury so catches his attention. One morning, you came to meet him at Heartslabyul so you could walk to class together. You give him a warm smile as way of a greeting. “Right on time dear,” he says with a smile. Just then, a student lets his mind wander too much on the iconic eye-bending staircases and stumbles. “Ack!” he yelps as he starts a tumble down the stair, hand just missing the railing. Riddle reaches for his pen but you are faster. Before he hits the ground, you have him frozen in place. You hold him there, suspended in time, until Trey and Cater are able to grab him by his jacket. Then you release your magic and the upperclassmen yank their junior back onto his feet, thus preventing a horrible accident.

“Why do these stairs need to be designed so crazy!” the shaken student complains. You feel like that was not a well-timed complaint and, glancing at your boyfriend’s face slowly turning into an angry scowl, you know you were correct. “Because that is tradition!” you say with forced humor, patting your bristling boyfriend on the arm. Riddle calms down and gives a sharp nod, as if to say ‘Exactly! So there!’ Then he turns to you and offers his arm with a satisfied smile. His dearest always knows just what to do.

The next incident was during preparations for the upcoming Unbirthday Party. A freshman was up on a ladder to paint the highest roses red when a certain grey fire gremlin runs wildly past, knocking the ladder and sending the student flying. You fling out your magic, catching the first year in time to save him a bad fall but not fast enough to prevent a wrenched wrist. Luckily, you know enough first aid to help him wrap it tight before sending him to the school infirmary. Riddle looks at you, wrapping the student’s wrist, and gets a thought; you are just like a nurse. “What’s that?” Deuce asks him. Riddle blushes, did he say that out loud?

When the day of the Unbirthday party arrives, you sit happily on the right side of Riddle. He smiles with such satisfaction to have you seated in a place of honor by his side. “Urgh!” You hear a student cry out as he trips, flinging a pot of hot tea toward a group of students. Thankfully, you manage to catch the hot tea before it hits anyone. You still rush over to the group to check them over (better safe than sorry!) while also scolding the stumbling student to be more careful on the uneven ground.

You finish looking over the last student and give him a pat, “I think you are good.” He smiles sheepishly at you and replies, “Thank you, Nurse Rosehearts.” Your eyes widen and your mouth makes a little O shape. That is nothing compared to the levels of embarrassment your boyfriend is experiencing. “What did you say?” he asks menacingly. “Ah, well you see…um Deuce told us you call the Prefect your nurse and we all thought it was fitting so…” Riddle is now a shade of red you hadn’t realized it was possible for a human to turn, “Deuce. If you have nothing better to do with your head than spread rumors, I take it you have no objections to me claiming it. OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!” You mouth ‘sorry’ to your collared friend as Riddle continues to scold him.

Later that night, Riddle muses as he brushes his teeth. Nurse Rosehearts. That has a nice sound to it.

Your life with Leona could be summarized in one word, restful. How could it not be, the lazy second prince insisted you nap with him whenever he could get a moment of your time. Some of the students from Savanahclaw think it’s cute, the proud Leona wanting to cuddle his sweet little herbivore like his own personal teddy. Those who spent the most time around him knew better. It was for your special skills.

Leona’s guide to napping Part 1, prepare the environment. The botanical garden was a favorite date spot for you and your boyfriend. The temperature was temperate, the plants were colorful background and, during classes, it was nice and quiet. Usually.

Leona’s ears flicker irritably. Drip. Drip. Drip. A huffing sound escapes from your boyfriend’s lips as he pulls you closer, attempting to drown his awareness of the sound with your comforting presence. Drip, drip, drip. He grips you and rolls over to his other side, bringing you along for the ride. “Woah, come on; warn a person before you do something like that!” you scold. He opens a single eye to glare out from, a “Tck” sound slipping out irritably when he sucks is teeth in annoyance. “Fine, fine. Want me to get up and see if I can tighten the faucet?”

When he rumbles deep in his chest and grips you even tighter, you know that is a no. ‘Fine,’ you think, ‘time for a last resort measure.’ Moments later the sound stops. Leona’s eyes open at the cessation of the sound, instincts pulling him to alertness at the change in atmosphere. After a moment, his gaze falls on your amused expression, of course you’d stopped it with your magic. “Five minutes tops. You better fall asleep fast.” He smiles, drawing your head into his chest. “Won’t even take two, Herbivore.”

Leona’s guide to napping Part 2, avoid pests at all costs. You could hear the screeching from down the hall. Children just operated at their own frequency. The look on Leona’s face said he found the joyful chirrups more like you’d take nails on a chalkboard. His face visibly annoyed as the young Checka clutched at his hand exclaiming, “Unka Leona, look! Unka Leona, see that!” at every little point of interest. You feared, if he didn’t get a break soon, Leona would snap.

“Hey Checka, want to see a cool field where you can catch butterflies?” you suggest. The bright face of the child turns to you, “Yeah!” Leona smiles at you gratefully and attempts to shake Checka’s hand off. “No, you come too, Unka Leona!” Checka insists. Leona’s smile falls into a stern frown quickly. You quickly move to catch his eye and give him a conspiratorial wink. Leona looks at you for a long moment and then sighs. “Lead the way, Herbivore.”

When you get to the fields near Ramshackle, there were indeed an assortment of moths and butterflies that flitted between the grasses and blooms. “Come on Checka, I’m a pro at this! Let’s go!” you shout and grab the little cub’s hand to urge him to join you. And he does, allowing Leona to slip into the tall grass for a short reprieve from his noisy charge.

Only the peace doesn’t last. What seems like a brief moment later, Checka pounces upon his hapless uncle. “Ooph!” Leona huffs, giving the boy a disapproving look. “Checka, where did you go?” you call out helplessly. “Unka Leona, are you sleepy?” the little cub asks Leona curiously. Leona rolls his eyes and looks at you with a look that reads, ‘rescue me.’ You rack your brain for another distraction.

Finally, even you must admit you’ve reached your limit and give up. “Hey kid, want to do something fun? Come here and I’ll teach you to fly.” The young lion bounds eagerly to his feet and runs to your side. You grip him by each underarm and toss him into the air. “Whooa!” you both yell. When he lands, he shouts “Again!” So you oblige him. Only this time, when he lands in your arms, you freeze him in time. “Herbivore, you are horrible.” Leona teases you. “Shush, you. Let’s get some rest in while we still can.”

Leona holds out an arm, inviting you to join him where he lays. You snuggle up and fall into an exhausted slumber. It lasted fifteen minutes, until your magic wore off. The best fifteen minutes of your day.

Jamil worked harder than anyone else you knew. Although you hadn’t officially gotten together after that magical night, you still somehow seemed to always be at his side. From that vantage, you’d been introduced to the grueling schedule that Jamil kept as both a student and servant to Kalim. You were fortunate that Scarabia had so many spare rooms. If not for the fact that you often slept over at the dorm, you might not see Jamil for days at a time.

The sun was barely risen when a sharp knock came at the door of your guest room suite. You mumbled to yourself before rolling over to look at the time. It was so early… A few minutes later, another knock sounds on your door. You know by this that Jamil has passed your room first to light the oven, getting it warm for breakfast, and again on his way to get Kalim out of bed. You’d like to stay and sleep longer but, with Jamil working so hard already, how could you?

A short time later, you are joined in the kitchen by Jamil. He gives you a warm smile in welcome and you both get to cooking. When you had first started cooking with Jamil, he barely trusted you to boil water but now, well, it’s not much but you’ve graduated to chopping veggies. When he has time, which is rare, he tries to help you improve your cooking skills. Each time you manage to master a new skill to his satisfaction, you earn a pat on the back and a small, “Well done.” The praise was more precious to you than jewels.

You finish off a carrot and slide the chopped offering down to Jamil, who adds it to a skillet of simmering spices and gravy. “What would you like next?” you ask him. “In a moment, Prefect. This part is tricky, so I need to concentrate.” Jamil answers. You don’t mind at all, enjoying the sight of Jamil skillfully flipping the contents of the skillet.

“Eeek!” came a cry from the lounge. You both recognized that voice, it was Kalim. You make eye contact and both simultaneously look at the sizzling skillet. “Go,” you say, “I’ve got this.” Jamil is starting to freak out, “I haven’t approved you to make rice yet, let alone this!” You roll your eyes at him and gesture, freezing the contents of the skillet mid-flip. “Ahhh,” Jamil mumbles, the beginnings of embarrassment showing on his face. You’d like to tease him more but there is still Kalim yelling in the lounge, so you suppose that can wait until this new disaster was dealt with. (It was a spider.)

Parties were so frequent an occasion in Scarabia that you’d rather become numb to them. You were helping Jamil set up for the latest party for…you weren’t even sure anymore. It may have been Riddle’s horse’s birthday or something. Anyway, you were hanging banners from the many railings of the balconies in the Scarabia lounge to prepare for the event.

Plus, you had a secret duty assigned by Jamil. From the corner of your eye, you kept Kalim in your sight. Since Jamil must be away at Basketball Club for the moment, he has entrusted you with keeping Kalim in order. This mostly amounts to stopping Kalim before he lets his wild ideas run away with him. Speaking of which, you notice Kalim is excitedly gesturing as he speaks to (honestly you don’t remember his name, you’ve been calling him Scarabia B in your head). An over-excited Kalim; that’s not a good sign.

“And elephants too!” you were just in time to hear. Oh no, this had gotten out of hand. You walk faster towards the pair but Kalim excitedly jumps up and runs off towards his treasure room. You quickly follow. “Kalim! Kalim! Where are you going?” you shout. “Ah, Prefect!” Kalim smiles at you widely, clutching a rolled-up carpet. “I’m going to take the magic carpet out to herd up some elephants for the party. Aha ha ha!” Before he can fly off, you grab onto the magic carpet with your magic, freezing it in place. “Hold it!” you shout. “We can’t bring elephants to the party or…it will scare the horses!” Kalim looks at you, his mouth going into a wide O. Then, just as fast, it shifts into a beaming grin. “Of course, why didn’t I think of that! I’m so glad we have you here to help with the party, Prefect! Aha ha ha!” Disaster averted.

Parties were fun but they were also exhausting, especially for Jamil. You followed him around, helping as best you could. Sweeping up, tearing down party decorations, putting leftover food away to repurpose for tomorrow’s lunch; anything to take a small portion of the burden off your hard-working beau. Finally, you had had enough.

“Jamil, you need to stop and rest. This can all wait until tomorrow,” you gently admonish him. He sets down the empty platter he is carrying and sighs. “Prefect, I wish your magic could freeze time for the whole world, so I’d finally be able to finish everything.” You consider this and respond, “Maybe my unique magic can’t do that but that’s not the only magic I have.” Jamil chuckles softly and gives you a look that says, ‘go on.’ You smile at him mischievously, “I’m like the fabled genie of the lamp, ready to grant your every wish. For your first wish, I’m sending you off to bed for some rest.” Then you drop the humor, “Even you need a break sometimes Jamil.”

With a final long-suffering sigh, Jamil relents and lets you walk with him toward his room and well-earned slumber. “You know, Prefect,” Jamil quietly states, “I believe the genie granted three wishes.” You pause under the gentle illumination of a lantern set in an alcove. “Why so he did,” you reply pensively. Then, stepping close to Jamil, you place a hand on his cheek before drawing him down into a kiss. His lips are warm against yours in the rapidly cooling night. When you part, you lay your other hand on his chest and lean into his comforting warmth. “I guess now you’ll just have to head to your room and think about what you want as your third wish.”

With one last gentle look, Jamil turns and continues alone to his room and rest. Truly though, he has no need to consider a third wish. What more could he desire when he already has you?

Birthdays.. he didn’t really enjoy them. Not his own , anyways. When it came to yours and Mokuba’s, he found some enjoyment in them. You and his brother’s smile of glee healed his heart just a bit, knowing you two could have the things he never could in his childhood- and now- made him.. happy.

Though, he may not admit it. Not right away, anyways.

His birthday was like any other day, loaded with work. What could he expect? A break on his birthday when he was the head of a giant company? Not a chance. It hardly even crossed his mind that it was his birthday to begin with.

On his way home he may pick up a coffee as a little treat for himself, but other than that, the festivities are pretty much over before they even began.

“Surprise!” “Happy birthday big bro!”

Little did Kaiba know you and Mokuba had been planning a huge surprise party since his last birthday. His lips parted in as he stared at his now decorated living room and kitchen. Blue and silver ribons all over..

“Hm,” He hummed, a grin settling over his previous look of shock, “Not bad, for the world champion himself.”

He would never admit it, but this is the happiest moment of his life. He didnt have to though, as you could read him like a book. And he was acutely aware of this fact.

Afterwards he may invite a few friends over to play Duel Monsters on this special occasion, just for fun of course. Though he didn’t expect you and Grandpa to pop out of the door with a “Happy Birthdayyy Yugiii!!” the moment he got home..! But, it was a pleasant surprise.

“You guys..,” He may tear up a little, “Woah..”

He’s more or less speechless at first, but he makes sure to show his gratitude through physical affection such and holding your hand and hugging you tight.

The pharaoh is rather used to celebrations of days such as his birth, or the anniversary of his crowning- it’s hard to ignore the public’s gratitude. But, he was used to it by now. Their weren’t a lot of surprises on days like these anymore.

He spends most of the day in his study writing down the past few major events on papyrus sheets. His ability to write out perfect hieroglyphic symbols still impressed you to this day, honestly.

When he had finally decided to put his quill down for the night he noticed the sounds of excited squealing from the pharaohs sleeping chambers. His dear Queen/King, what could you be up to now, he wondered? You were always warm and happy like the sun, he wondered if you ever could truly harbor hatred for another human.

As he stepped into the temples sleeping chambers he was immediately met with the sight of red and white lights illuminating the walls, and petals covering the ground. He wasnt very good at expressing it, but it made his heart flutter. Making his way to your shared qaurters .. wow.. before him was a heartwarming sight.

You, his lovely queen/king sitting in a pure satin laced night gown, holding out a cake to him. ‘I ♡ you Atem!’ was written across it with icing.

His lip trembled, it brought him such .. happiness that you found him this precious to you with no strings attached. He took the cake and nodded his head;

“Thank you, my- my dear..”

Ryou Bakura

Ryou had lived alone for quite a while, so.. on his birthdays, there was never anything to look forward to to begin with. Plus, what if he shared a birthday with someone else? He.. didn’t want to be a bother by bringing it up.

This is why none of his classmates ever batted an eye on his birthday; he never told them about it. But you..

Oh, he couldn’t hide a thing from you. In the end you had forced his birthday out of him- it turned out you were right. You shared your birthday.

On his way home from a tournament, he’s fully intent on buying you the best gift he can find! Stepping into your favorite little shop he immediately spots what he’s gonna get; a huge Hello Kitty plush that’s way bigger than either of you. Thank god the clerk running the check out was able to smush it down into one of their bags.

That would make it a much bigger surprise!

Opening the door to your apartment he’s greeted with the sweet smell of strawberry shortcake. Oh wow.. he was so lucky. If one thing was clear, you knew the way to his heart ; good, homemade food.

He made his way to the kitchen, the sight of presents piled on the table making him stop in his tracks. His cheeks flooded with a dark hue of red, brown eyes softening like a puppy begging for food. Could it be? Had .. you really done this all for him? On your birthday too? Oh.. oh wow.

He had never felt so loved.

The whole night was just like a dream come true- what he had always imagined real birthdays to be like! You’d both gotten presents from your friends, and you had gotten him a deck of all the rarest cards you could find.

“My fairy.. you shouldnt have..!”

The entire day you were by his side, on such a special day that should have been celebrated for milenia.. he didnt want his pretty prince/princess wandering from him. Though the days prior you had set up a small ‘party’ in your home.

After cheering him on in a duel against some chump- who was it? Oh, right. Kaiba, who he obviously won against; you brought him back home, making sure to stop at little shops you both liked to buy him treats.

“C’mon Bakura!” You called, “I have a surprise!”

“Tsk, so eager. I never quite understood birthdays, anyways..”

He grumbled but followed en-suite. He had no such good memories of birthdays. His was hardly ever celebrated, instead that Pharaohs was what everyone gushed over. But no matter, back then he could have always just stolen himself any trinket he desired - it didn’t even need to be his stupid birthday.

As the two of you returned you took the pale hand of his host’s body and lead him inside. His eyes widened at the view.. so many sets of cards.. so many random trinkets, and a table set full of food, drinks, cake- everything.

“I knew there was a reason we were destined to be together, my Prince/Princess..”

Marik Ishtar

From his earliest memory of it, his birthday has always been a dreaded time in his life. One year closer to having to accept the ritual. And when that time finally arrived, his birthday had officially been deamed the worst day of the year. Somedays, he wished he had never been born at all.

It was no wonder it took him a good while to open up to you about his past, and even what day his birthday was. He wished he could just purge the day from the year. It would make everything much.. easier.

On the “special” day he had locked himself away in his room, hugging his pillow just- just waiting for it to be over. The memories he had to relive- the stinging from his tattoos.

But.. hearing your voice from outside he almost immediately shot up.

“My Prince, may I come in?..”

You were acutely aware of how hard this day was for him. But that’s why you wanted to give him some new, good memories of it. When he opened the door you brought him into your warm embrace, seeing the tears in his eyes broke your heart. He was.. comfortable being vulnerable around you. And that meant something- it meant a great deal to you. You hushed him softly, humming a sweet tune.

“I dont want to be seen like this.. come in.” He grumbled, “Not even Odion can see me cry anymore.”

The tan boy pulled you in, locking the door behind you two. He sat you down by his side on the edge of his bed. You watched with a small frown as he wiped the tears from his eyes and his sniffling nose.

“Marik.. I have a gift for you, my pharaoh.”

“What?..!.. Please dont- nno- dont do it to me again-..!”

Marik immediately pulled back, pulling his rod out as quick as he could. That look of fear in his eyes- you’d never seen it before. You shook your head, pulling out a small box.

“Please trust me, it’s something good.”

With your reassurance he lowered his gaurd just a bit.. but he was still weary. That was until you pulled- could it be? The Millenium.. the Millenium Eye from your little box. You held it out to him. He silently took it , rolling it around in his palms.

“Happy Birthday, my Prince.”

Third part on my Yu-gi-oh 10 Years Later AU (Part one and two here)! This is my last one for now, but i might make more if I have some new ideas! Some headcanons about their lives at the moments now:

Ryou Bakura:

I imagine that after all the stress and frustration with being cursed by an ancient spirit in his body and having to still finish school after that he would just want to relax and not worry for a little while; that made him look more like a washed-up nerd than the prettyboy he was in high school, but (unfortunatly for him) he still got a big number of girls and guys interested in him somehow.

Since he never mentions in DSOD what he wants to do after school, I imagine he's that kind of person that studies and tries a bunch of different things since he's unsure of what to do. Right now he's unemployed, but he's studying game design after dropping out of 6 different courses; don't worry too much about him, his father's rich and he's enjoying a lot trying all these things out.

Hiroto Honda/Tristan Taylor:

After he had to work in his father's factory for a little while, he finally went and got to work on something that interests him! Seeing how there are quite a few moments in the series with him doing and showing interest on things related to mechanical stuff, i think he would like to work with machines, fixing motorcycles, stuff like that.

That also made him RIPPED AF, something that makes him feel proud of himself and also a little shy. Jou likes to tease him a little about it, but he's honestly very impressed about it.

His life isn't that exciting outside of that, but he's pretty happy anyway. He goes out with his friends a lot, sometimes helps Yugi (and Kaiba too even if he won't admit it) with the more technical part of creating games, tries going on dates but usually they don't end very well, and takes care of his bratty cousin, who's a preteen now.

Anzu Mazaki/Tea Gardner:

She has been living in the USA for a decade now, and has had a very nice experience overall, even if in the beginning there was some cultural shock and a little of difficulty making new friends, since she missed her friends from Domino a lot.

She is famous now! She has acted in a lot of different plays over the years, beginning as a background dancer and moving into the main star of some shows, including a Duel Monsters show where she was the Dark Magician Girl, and is very beloved by boh theater nerds and DM fans (meaning most people, since... this is the Yugioh world). Unfortunatly, that means she doesn't get a lot of free time, but she does her best to enjoy every second she gets to do her own stuff.

She does miss her friends a lot, but does her best to always find ways to contect them, like chosing specific tours that go to Japan, trying to go back there on most holiday breaks she gets, and also calling them almost every time she gets a chance.

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Oh geez, I love my Joey boy so much, honestly. One thing that I think is really great, and I know I've seen other people mention this before, is just how real he feels. His characters is so multifaceted and goes through so much development, and he just feels like such a real dude.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Just, everything? He has certified golden retriever energy with his deep love and loyalties, and it's one of the best things about him.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

I do get annoyed by some of his more obnoxious behavior, and sometimes he's downright embarrassing, but that comes with the territory of being a teenager.

4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

I do think seeing Joey as a random bystander in a Marvel movie would be a good giggle.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

Ship songs aside, the first song I could come up with was Hall of Fame by Gym Class Heroes. Boy knows what wants. Being at the top, right up there with Kaiba and Yugi, is his repeated goal throughout the series.

6. What's something you have in common with this character?

Brooklyn roots, going by the dub. My grandfather was born there, lived most of his life there. The other thing we have in common is being not on speaking terms with our mothers. 🥰

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

The fandom never lets us forget where Joey started: violent, street-tough bully trying to scrape a life together basically on his own. As much as I love cute happy Joey chilling with the scapegoats and his pals, it would be such a disservice to forget where he came from.

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

I actually can't think of anything? I think the fandom generally treats Joey well.

9. Could you be roommates with this character?

That's actually a tough question. Depends on how good he is about cleaning up after himself. I think we could probably with something out though, a deal that involves trading chores for meals.

10. Could you be best friends with this character?

Probably, but I'd probably be at least half as naggy as Tea is with him. The "omg Joey use a napkin boi" kind of nagging, but I think he'd fit right in and we could tease and be goofy.

11. Would you date this character?

I'm married, so the safe answer is no lol

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

Boy had to get good at taking care of himself, so he shops deals and coupons and plans his meals around those, even when he's more financially secure. It's an ingrained habit.

13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

90s punk/grunge he could so rock that

15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)

Aw, I can only pick one? If I had to go based off of the Joey ships I've written, it would be Puppyshipping, but I think Puffshipping is crazy precious. And I can't shut up about Polarshipping anytime he and Mai are in a scene together, their chemistry is too good. So those are my top three. There's so many good Joey ships though!!!

16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?

I don't know that I have one? Not as far as popular ships go. I'm not big into Riskshipping, I can only see it as being unhealthy even with Mokuba aged up. (Irateshipping and Fadeshipping aren't necessarily healthy either, but they're very fascinating.)

17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?

So, on the DM shipping list is Babbleshipping, which is Joey x Kisara, which I just can't imagine working (and I've never seen any fanworks for it either), but I also find the idea of Joey swooping in as Mr. Steal Your Dragon Girlfriend from Kaiba kinda hilarious.

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

Joey's got a lot of great pals, but I think Tristan is just such a solid bro to him throughout the whole show (except for hitting on Serenity which is still so weird to me cause she's 12). But the advice he was giving him in Season Four regarding Mai was honestly solid advice: "give up on her, man, you're just going to get hurt if you keep going like this." It's just too sweet. Joey doesn't listen to him ofc because this boy never gives up.

19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?

Obviously I wish he had a better relationship with his dad, but it's Yugioh: good dads aren't allowed.

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

I think Duke is actually a godd logical, grounding, down to earth presence for Joey to be around. Duke is not afraid to call him on his crap, and I can just see then getting along pretty well, esp once Joey's matured just a little bit more.

22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?

I appreciate when people write him with the accent, even if it's only slightly. It's just a fun detail imo. I appreciate the details people create to fill in his exact background as a fighter and how he lives and stuff. The attention to detail with the roots of who he is as a person.

23. Favorite picture of this character?

The first thing that popped into my mind is a fanart of his previous small smile, but I assume this is asking for canon images, so... Just look how happy and cool he is!!!!! And his Lord of Red appearance is just too heckin cool for me to not include.

24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

I think Ashe Duran from FE3H would be able to relate to him with their roots in poverty and both changing (Joey from a bully and Ashe from a thief) into becoming the best, most noble versions of themselves that they can be. They have the sweetest smiles and would do anything to protect their little siblings.

Rock from Nanbaka is a little similar I guess, but Rock comes from money and has a much more refined palette when it comes to food. Rock was still a gang member though, just like Joey, and they both think with their stomachs and are still brawlers. Also literally delinquents.

If I had to compare him to someone in UtaPri, I'd say he's got the same mischief vibes as Reiji, but the better match is the happy sunshine child Otoya Ittoki who's been through a lot and had a rough childhood but won't let it get him down. The future is full of opportunity for these boys.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Oh geez, let me think back to twelve year old me... I really can't recall. I remember one of my first impressions in fandom was rejecting puppyshipping, partly just because it was popular, and then the more I learned about the characters separately, the more it compelled me, but that's another story.

My impression of him now? I love this man, he is a beacon of love and loyalty and getting better, which is a good example that all of us need sometimes honestly.

26. FREEBIE QUESTION!!

GUYS I KNOW SEASON FOUR HAD ISSUES BUT IT DID GOOD STUFF FOR JOEY. IT GAVE US HERMOS. IT GAVE US ATLANTIS JOEY. JOEY IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS YUGI AND KAIBA IN A METAPHYSICAL SENSE. HE'S JUST AS MUCH OF A HERO THAT SAVED THE WORLD. HE'S NOT "JUST JOEY." HE IS JOEY FUCKING WHEELER, AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT.

Seriously though, imagine how validated that made Joey feel? Surrounded by shadow magic and "chosen ones" and all this talk of reincarnation and destiny, and he thinks he's just along for the ride until wham! No bitch, you're special too! That's gotta warm his heart and make him smile, even after bad days working shitty jobs, or getting second place at a tournament. He's a legendary knight, his soul is tied to the Spirit World just as strongly as Yugi and Kaiba. He'll never lose his confidence ever again as long as he remembers that.

Also, I love the idea of him having all daughters. He's going to spoil them and be so crazy protective of them. He will never let them think they're anything less than gorgeous. He will sit down to tea parties with the frilly princessy one and give fighting tips to the butch one and adore all of them and very publicly threaten their partners with bodily harm if you ever dare hurt his girls. Dad Joey makes me happy. ❤️

Braiding Yugioh Hair Headcannons

Me writing this came to me in my dreams actually

You’re the Kaiba’s adopted sibling that’s just a year younger than the gang!

Yugi Muto:

* The only place that you can actually braid properly is those yellow bangs and it still sticks up awkwardly

* The amount of products and hairpins you have to use to braid his hair in his head and have it stay on his head is enormous

* The only way that you didn’t go broke by buying the products and hairpins was by tricking Kaiba into wanting to see yugi with his hair braided down

* Aka telling him he would never be able to get the products to keep his hair down, it works really well

* Honestly yugi was just happy to spend so much time with you despite the hectic process

* The braiding sesh was actually fun for him and Yami was so confused and amazed when he was in control of the body

* Yugi also enjoyed the shocked looks he received when others especially the gang saw his hair completely braided down

* A lot of people thought the world was gonna end lol

* His hair was back standing after 3 weeks

* 2 weeks with products in before washing it out then another week of the hair slowly rising back up

* He enjoyed his time with braids

* You tried braiding his hair without products

* But to keep it down you had to place either a bunch of clips or hair ties and it ended up giving him a headache

* “Yeah Y/N these clips aren’t going to work, sorry!”

* It was a shame too seeing as you got him dark magician hair

* So it was flying braids or spending a lot of money to keep them braids down

* Your pick

* The only time it works without product is when his hair is soaked

* But then it’s frizzy and weird when it dries, better to not do it

* At least once every 3 months Kaiba buys the products to relax Yugi’s hair in order to braid it cause you bother him for it

Seto Kaiba:

* Don’t you dare touch my hair

* This rule applies only before work and important meetings or galas

* Ofc you can braid his hair any other time and he’ll wear it pridefully out of work

* Kaiba is weak to his younger siblings (cause they’re his only family members)

* He doesn’t wear it to work only because a whole crew of valuable people almost got fired for making fun of the braids his sibling did

* “It seems you guys don’t value your jobs huh?”

* He still comes in to work time to time with braids and clips but no one dared to j joke or laugh about it now

* Yeah he has short hair, but he grows it out just enough for you to make some braids in it

* Mokuba enjoys braiding his hair too

* You guys add a bunch of BEWD clips into his hair also so Kaiba walks around even more prideful

* He enjoys his clips

* Braiding Seto’s hair is bonding time whether it’s just the two of you or all 3 siblings

Mokuba Kaiba:

* Braiding his hair is also sibling bonding time

* He gets his hair done on the regular though and takes great pride in it

* His hair is really messy and gets tangled easily so the braid is the best thing for his hair

* You joke often and call him Rapunzel

* A bunch of Kuriboh pins are added to his hair much to Seto’s disgust but he doesn’t say anything

* Almost threw hands at school for someone making fun of it

* “My older sibling did it for me, I bet you wish you had two cool older siblings like mine huh?”

* Despite hands not being thrown the other kid was roasted so bad you had to pick him up cause the teacher took him out of class

* “They started it by making fun of your work!”

* That kid better pray their parents don’t get laid off cause Seto is petty af

*You’re also really pissed when he cuts his hair later, but convinces him to not cut his hair as short as canon

Joey Wheeler:

* Doesn’t like his mullet being changed

* But through the power of you and Serenity he eventually relents

* His hair is great

* You give him cornrows cause of the “Brooklyn Rage” joke to mess with him

* He likes it

* This session also cause Serenity to get her hair braided

* It turns into a bonding session between your boyfriend and his sister

* It’s really cute and he enjoys this time

* But ain’t no one catching him outside the house with the braids

* He’s got a reputation to upkeep

* But I’m the safety of his or your home he’ll gladly wear it

* Or wear it with a hat

* He only wears it at your house cause Seto refuses to make fun of your work

* Actually is kinda cool with Seto cause he also gets stuck in the hair braiding bonding time so they spend time together anyways

Ryou Bakura:

* Have you seen his hair?

* It’s most likely Mokuba quality but fluffier

* He enjoys having his hair braided

* It’s relaxing and destressing

* Has definitely fallen asleep with you braiding his hair

* But he’s def tender headed

* So no box braids or super tight twists, plaits, or braids

* Reminds him of doing his younger sister’s hair

* And when his mother did his hair before he left to be by himself

* When he comes over for hair braiding day at the Kaiba place the staff knows it’ll be a calm day

* Man can make the situation calm af on this day

* Takes care of everyone’s hair and makes it’s hair not tangled

* Mokuba loves him cause of this reason and approves of the relationship

* Seto and Ryou works on promotional art, ads and other business stuff Ryou during the hair caring sessions

Marik Ishtar:

* OMG ITS HAIR BRAIDING TIME AINT IT?!?!?

* Loves his hair getting done with you

* Enjoys your hand in his hair

* Brings him great comfort as it means someone isn’t scared to touch him and actually loves him

* Reminds him of the time his father was actually nice to him and ruffled his hair and he braided his dad’s hair

* Also reminds him of the peaceful times when Ishizu braided his hair and when they did Rashid’s hair

* You bring back the sessions and he’s very happy about

* Actually the whole family is

* Always has some drink with him for this time

* Is actually part of his self care schedule

* It specifically says in his routine list:

* “Y/N braiding my hair”

* Very good family banding time

* Good job on helping bring the family back together!

Duke Devlin:

* Has you often braid it

* Finds it fun and relaxing

* Crap ton of dungeon dice monsters and dice monster hair accessories made by Kaiba Corp specifically for him based on your request

* Speaking of which, he would also be someone to do business during the hair sessions

* But the staff knows it’s gonna be a chaotic day when he comes over

* Screws around with Seto but genuinely helps Mokuba with his hair

* Has you try to do his hair in multiple complicated styles

* His hair is silky smooth but thick af

* Sometimes he falls asleep when you card your hand through his hair before braiding it

* Loves the time you spend together doing hair and make up the most outside of cuddling

Maximillion Pegasus:

* In this case Pegasus is your adoptive father and you’re friends with the friendship gang through Duelist Kingdom

* Hair care day is a weekly thing

* Minimum of once a week it happens but it usually happens every single day

* He wants to connect with the child that reminds him of his dear wife

* This is how he first connected with you when you were newly adopted and still shy

* Eventually you become comfortable with him but the braids are really bad

* Now we speed up to the present and you’re an expert hairstylist and your braids are immaculate

* His hair is silky smooth and thing too

* When you’re sad he comes in and it’s a hair makeover session!

Obviously, scary movies. But, to get into specifics...I think slasher movies he would care for but he would be less unwilling to watch them. I think the ones he absolutely hates to watch and at times flay out refuse would be more haunted house, ghost, demon possession ones. Especially, if they do any of that based on a true story. It would get to him too much. Which considering who his best friend is, this is honestly hilarious to me. "Based on a true story! This girl touched a BOX and got possessed by an ancient demon?!?! What the hell!!! That's terrifying! How is this a true story?! Can you imagine just going to some place and touching a box and suddenly you just wake up covered in blood?!?!" He resents who he used to be for awhile. He used to hate himself and the things he has done to others. I think that is something that would tend to bother him a bit. I'm also thinking if he has a record and how it may cause difficulties for jobs in the future and how he may come back to being upset at himself for his past mistakes and gang life. Though, I do think things get better for him and I also think he grows to forgive himself.

8. What character foils / parallels do you find most intriguing from canon regarding this character?

I have always found the character foil/parallel with him and Kaiba to be really interesting. They are put into so many similar situations throughout their lives but their reactions are so different. I could write more here but this one could be an essay honestly.

9. What does this character find inspiring?

His loved ones. He finds Yugi's kindness inspring and Shizuka's bravery. He wants to be a better person because of them.

10. If this character wanted to cheer up someone they cared about, what do you think they'd do?

Thinking specifically of him yelling at Atem in the puzzle to cheer up right now.

Honestly I think it depends on the person and the situation. I think at times he'd do silly things and try to make them smile but, we also have moments when he gives his speeches too. During those he doesn't act silly, many times he's looking directly at them, on their level and talks about how great he thinks they are. How he knows, because he's been there, that even when things looks dark that it'll be ok and it'll get better. We also have moments when hes just there for the person, like with Honda and getting rejected by Miho, and he just offers to get them food and just kind of be there for them. Honestly Jou, when he realizes someone is upset, really tries hard to fix it and seems to be fairly good at it.

12. What's a moment in canon regarding them that you feel is underappreciated?

This one is a little harder because it's one of those things where honestly it's probably more based on maybe not seeing it as much but, I feel like Jou winning against Ghost Kozuka should be appreciated more. That was the first time he was truly on his own, in an absolutely terrifying place for him. I feel like even though he beat Ryuzaki on his own and that was a great moment, beating Kozuka was a huge turning point for him and how he viewed himself and dueling.

Oh he is definitely "Wait we had homework???" With a little bit of "bold of you to assume I did the homework" because like he knows that it would be honestly hilarious for someone to ask him of all people to copy his homework. He has like 3 jobs and adhd , you really think he's out here doing homework? Much less realizing there is homework. Though, just imagine if one day Anzu is digging through her things and realizes she forgot her homework and Jou just slides a paper over and shrugs like "eh, I never turn it in anyway. Another missed assignment is no big deal." And part of her is so thankful and the other part of her is like....there's not a single correct answer on this paper. Somehow turning this in would be worse than just admitting I forgot it.

Wrote this scene for a later chapter of Mob. I say that but mainly I just had a scene in my head this morning and needed to manifest it. It can probably fit into chapter 10 of Mob. But I dig it a lot and wanted to share it in case it doesn't make it into the text.

So. Consider. Kaiba actually manages to break down some of Yugi’s emotional barriers with a combination of pure stubbornness and awkward earnestness. And now Yugi is actually comfortable expressing some of those emotions he always bottled like he’s a damn Coca-Cola factory. Including the anger. Including when he’s angry at Kaiba himself. Whups.

(But it’s OK, Kaiba’s actually happy for it, ultimately; at least it’s not being added to the molotov pile in Yugi’s heart.)

Unfortunately, a not-insignificant portion of fellow KaibaCorp employees and the competitive Duel Monsters scene both take this and Kaiba’s... Kaibaness towards people but especially Yugi in particular as a sign they dislike each other. Not optimal, but honestly the pair for the most part don’t notice or care.

(Yugi probably notices more because he’s marginally better at people, or at least pretending he is, let’s be real, tho’.)

Anyway, this sort of... rumor? Myth? Persists until someone actually catches Yugi managing to get Kaiba to laugh about something, and not in the “MINE IS AN EVIL LAUGH” Kaiba usually intentionally or unintentionally does; this is a full-on dorky snort-laugh and they’re like, oh. They don’t actually hate each other; it’s just they’re comfortable with each other now, and that means being able to share more with each other, the good and the bad.

(And then the competitive Duel Monsters fandom scene’s RPF fanfiction community goes wild I mean uh)

1, 11, 14!

1: list 3 positive things about your current fandom(s)

First, I'm in more obscure fandoms, so there's not much drama. People are more open to different things because they're just happy to see more stuff for the fandom

Second, most everyone I meet is someone that has been in the fandom for a while. People who really do connect with it and care about it (as opposed to people that just stop by while it's popular for a bit, but leave once the hype dies down)

Third, the fan content that exists for my fandoms is amazing. From detailed AUs to just further explaining something from canon to that joke thing someone claims they 'just HAD' to do, it's incredible and I love it.

11: if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?

Definitely all my stories in The ScholMander Files. There's really only two people that actually care about this series, but I've had so much fun talking with those two people about ideas for my own fics and theirs, and I've really enjoyed writing these. I've probably written more fics for this pairing than any other single author, and I've got more coming. Which leads to....

14: the ship that always makes you smile

There's a few for this, and a lot of it has to do with RPs here. It's a tie for me between:

☆ ScholMander (Milo Thatch/Commander Rourke from Atlantis: the Lost Empire) - This is probably the unicorn of the fandom in terms of how rare it is. But having written so much for it and even RPed it, this is now canon to me. These two are just so sweet to each other I'm surprised I don't have cavities yet. And it all started because I saw some photoedit fanart that had an image of Rourke with an arm around Milo and I couldn't stop thinking about that image. Now, they are canon to me.

☆ Clu x Tron/Rinzler (from.....uh.....Tron) - This is largely due to RP threads I've done on here. I honestly hadn't thought of this until I started RPing it with people here,but now I love it. Especially Clu and Tron as sort-of-parents for Beck. Ugh, the sweetness!

☆ Halman (Hal 9000/Dave Bowman from 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel movie/books) - This is probably the one canon ship I'm into, and yes it is very obviously canon, especially in the sequel movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact when they have the following exchange:

Hal 9000: What is going to happen? Dave Bowman: Something wonderful. Hal 9000: I'm afraid. Dave Bowman: Don't be. We'll be together. Hal 9000: Where will we be? Dave Bowman: Where I am now.

I mean, it's even more obvious than Spirk (which I also love) and that's saying something. Just the way these two care for each other is just so wholesome and sweet. It's the one ship I don't see much smut stuff for, and honestly, it doesn't need smut, it works so well. They are just so good to each other. Dave does not want to kill Hal, he does it because he has no choice and (my interpretation) he figured out at that point that something was wrong, that Hal was 'sick' and Dave didn't want to see this person he cares so much about suffering anymore. But when Hal is brought back in the sequel, Dave takes extra time during his short visit to check on Hal and make sure he's okay and ultimately saves him from a second death, after which they literally spend eternity together.
