Yugi Muto

He’s not only the king of games but also the king of comforting his loved ones

Yugi is very perceptive of others feelings especially your own. When he realizes you’re sad, he immediately tries to comfort you.

He will be by your side and ask what has happened

He will do everything in his power to comfort you. Be it words of affirmation or genuine care. He’s very loving and will be extra fragile towards you when you’re sad

As you cry he holds you. If you don’t like being touched when you’re upset then he gives you space

He will give you his jacket and hold your hand as he speaks gently to you.

“Please don’t cry... I’m here for you.”

Yami

what I love most about this former pharaoh is how he handles people’s feelings with grace. This is ten fold for his significant other

Yami is quick to comfort you with his words. He listens and responds accordingly

Advice, words of love, you name it

He always knows what to say. He’s full of wisdom and has such a big heart. He’s the best at comforting

When you cry he dries your tears with his sleeves of his jacket and cups your face so you look into his caring yet piercing red eyes

His look is incredibly gentle as is his touch towards you

He’ll speak in a soft low voice. It’s so gentle, his deep voice is so comforting

“Please look at me.. I won’t leave your side until I see you smile again.”

Joey Wheeler

He’s very in tune with emotions especially your own

He’s quick to pick up on your feelings and when you cry he’s already by your side ready to comfort you.

He holds you in his long arms and gives you a reassuring look. His expression can light up a room and he can certainly give you his signature grin to make your heart flutter

His positivity knows no bounds and he’s quick to cheer you up even when you’re crying

He knows what to say and he’ll only tell you what you need to he told

“Don’t worry babe Joey Wheeler is here!”

Duke Devlin

He’s a sweet boyfriend with a way with words. Even when you’re crying

Duke lends his shoulder to cry on and picks you up in his arms so you can sit on his lap while you cry

He wraps an arm around you and gently speaks to you

He’s the sweetest and will make it his mission to have those tears of yours gone

Duke wipes away those tears and looks into your eyes as he’s comforting you

“Angel baby, please talk to me. I’m all ears.”

Seto Kaiba

Kaiba is quick to demand who hurt you. His eyes turn cold at the very thought of someone daring to hurt his beloved

When he realizes no one has hurt you he’s quick to look saddened and holds your hand. His arm wraps around you protectively

He orders someone to buy you your favorite treat, stat then returns his attention to you

He uses his handkerchief or tie to wipe away your tears gently

His demeanor is so soft with you as he listens to what you have to say

He’s comforting but very gentle In his words. His advice is always top notch as is his problem solving. He will do everything in his power to make it right

Mai Valentine

Mai certainly shows tough love but only when it’s necessary. Her love for you is very well shown. She’ll be so worried when she see’s her baby darling crying

She’s quick to baby you and immediately figure out what could be wrong

She might be quick to look for anyone who could’ve possibly hurt you. She’s much like her harpy duel monsters. She’ll gladly sink her claws on anyone who gets on her bad side.

When you tell her no one has hurt you she will start comforting you. She’ll hug you against her soft chest and talk to you gently. Her embrace is so warm and comforting

Her words are so full of wisdom. She speaks to you with such grace as she comforts you

She’s also very good with advice. Her words always manage to help and make you feel so much better

Dark Magician Girl

She is immediately worried and going to be right by your side

She is quick to be holding you or placing your head on her lap how you like it

If you're affectionate, she will smother you with it as she does her best to calm you down

If you’re not as affectionate then she will be absolutely reassuring and in tune with your feelings

This lovely lady will make it her mission to wipe away those tears and cheer you up

After you’re feeling better and if you’re feeling up to it she will even take you on a date. Her treat!

You met when you both were younger and became close friends

That’s when he got a crush on you but honestly it was relatively small

He would always try and be around you but eventually you started to see each other less and less

There was a particular reason for it

It just kind of happened that way

Now you two met again around season two which made Yugi ecstatic

Yami was cool with you relatively

Joey not so much-

The moment he fell in love with you though

Some random person tried to steal his deck from his belt so you chased after them and not only did you get his deck back but you beat the hell out of them and got them to apologize to Yugi

His heart bursted out of his heart after seeing how much you care about him

He was smitten

He was definitely not the one who asked you out

He got to scared every time he tried because he knew if you didn’t like him back you wouldn’t be super nice about it lmao

It was you who asked him out

But it wasn’t anything to fancy

You came up to Yugi at the end of school and offered to walk home with him

Which he said yes of course

When you finally got to his house you told asked him to go on a date with you

Bro almost bursted into tears

In a relationship he is the sweetest boy alive

You two met pretty randomly

You came up to him while he was at the arcade with his friends and you kissed him

He heard a couple Oohs but he was more concerned on who you are and why you’re kissing him

Once you broke the kiss you just walked away leaving him baffled at the situation

He followed after you and demanded to know why you kissed him

He doesn’t know what he expected but the answer ‘it was a dare’ was not definitely not what he thought

It made him disappointed ngl

He let out a little oh and then let you walk away

He thought about you ever since that day

Then he met you again

He came up to you while you were sitting at a cafe reading a book and sat down right across from you

He expected you to remember him but alas you didn’t lmfao

But even though you didn’t remember him you still offered him food and didn’t insist on him leaving

Honestly it was a little concerning considering the fact you thought he was a stranger

Somehow through all of this you guys became friends

Whenever he is in Domino City and not on his little journeys he goes out to a cafe with you

He tries to do this every Saturday but it doesn’t always work out with both of your schedules

You and Yami had the slowest slow burn known to man

He didn’t realize he was in love with you for a while

Until he saw you kissing someone else

He was so confused at what he was feeling that he went back home and just sat oh his bed

He asked Yugi about it and he was the one that made Yami realize he was in love with you

He wasn’t a big fan of the feeling

He tried to avoid you as much a possible but that did last to long

You cornered him into an alleyway and made him explain his behavior

And while he tried to lie… he isn’t a good liar‏

When he was trying to play cool you kissed him and he quickly forgot about everything and kissed back

During the little make out session you asked him to date you causing him to stop

He told you about seeing you kiss someone else and didn’t want to be in a relationship with someone who likes someone else

Then you had to explain how the guy kissed you and it would never happen again because you had your eyes set on Yami since the first day you met him

He believed you and became your boyfriend

He is much more closed off and private about pretty much everything to do with you

His friends didn’t even know about you until Yugi told them how Yami is dating someone

He doesn’t say it out loud that he loves you or engage in to much physical affection but he does always bring and buy you stuff

Anything he sees that he think you’ll like he’ll buy

Unlike Yugi, when he makes you food he doesn’t mess it up

Honestly probably the best food you’ll ever have in your life

It’s usually for special occasions only

When you two do cuddle it’s mostly in bed with you both about to go to sleep and spooning each other with you as the big spoon and him as the little one

Every new place he goes to he brings something back for you if you don’t want to go along

He invites you to every one of his matches

He is very quiet and reserved speaking wise but you can usually tell what he’s thinking based off his body language

Will watch anything you want with you while eating popcorn and other unhealthy food

He also got you this really expensive ring for Christmas

“Yami… you shouldn’t have.”

“I wanted you to know how much you mean to me.”

“I know but this! This is so…”

“Lovely? I don’t understand do you not want it? I can get you another if you would like.”

“No Yami. It’s just so expensive looking I mean have you looked at me? It’ll be like a shining red ferrari in a haystack.”

“Do you not like it?”

“No. It’s gorgeous, but you’re going to be really disappointed with what I got you.”

“Anything you get me I will treasure with my life.”

“Thanks Yami, but just know it’s not a expensive ass ring.”

“I kind of already figured.”

Joey Wheeler

This man fell for you the moment he met you… literally.

It what gots your attention so he’s not really complaining

He honestly thought whenever you two would meet you were flirting with him but in reality you were being normal

He would always flirt back which you noticed but decided on not saying anything

While he had a ‘flirty’ relationship with you and like you he didn’t love you

Until you and him went to the arcade-

You were competing against him in one of the games and when you won you let out a deep laugh making him start to laugh as well

It made him realize how much he enjoys you and he wants to be with you forever

You’re the person that makes him happy after all

As soon as he realized that he asked you out which you replied with a short yes and told him you’re going to be at one of the shooting games

He honestly didn’t know if he should be happy or sad

I mean you said yes but then you acted like him asking you out wasn’t a big deal

When he confronted you on it probably more angry than he needed you just told him you knew he liked you and expected it

He got a little bit embarrassed over that

When you two start dating he’s really sweet and dresses to impress but as time goes on he becomes the type of boyfriend that will come into your home grab your chips and watch tv with you with his stained shirt and sweatpants

Not that your complaining

He always buys you gifts when he can but he’s kind of broke so there definitely a little bit trashy

He’s usually staying at your house at night and will sleep in holding onto you tight so when you wake up you can’t go anywhere

He’s a very cuddly person and always wants your arm wrapped around him whenever and wherever

He introduced you to his sister a moth or so after you two started dating and it was safe to say she loved you

Even if she didn’t understand you

He’s also nervous that you’ll leave him for someone else so he gets jealous really quickly

If you are involved in sports like football or soccer or wrestling he’ll be cheering you on from the sides yelling something like ‘WOOOOO IM DATING THE ONE IN WHITE YEAH BABE YOU GO’ ‘Joey they’re all in white…’ ‘YUGI SHUSH’

Whenever he’s dueling the thing that keeps him going is you

You and him go out to dinner whenever you guys can

You’re the one that pays for it though

He will honestly cheer you on if you decided to beat someone up

As long as you had a good reason

“Didn’t you say you were heading home Joey?”

“Don’t focus on that focus on those pedos!”

Seto Kaiba

He hated you when he first met you

You two got off to a bad start

He was working at a cafe when you came close and tripped spilling your coffee over him and his computer

You were dared by Mokuba even though you had no idea who either of them were

Since you were pretty much broke and couldn’t afford to pay for the stuff (which was over $7000) he just hired you instead

That honestly did not help

You just kept bugging him and asking him questions about the job

The only reason he didn’t fire you immediately is because he thought you were suffering while working for him (even though you were having a great time and he was the one suffering)

It was unexpected to fall in love with you

You were walking home when you saw a couple boys surrounding Mokuba

When you saw one of the boys hit him you stepped in scaring the kids off

You saw that Mokuba had a bruise forming on his check and his clothes were ripped

Since your house was so close you just took him home to get him fixed up and gave him some clothes that were to big for him so he ended up looking like Jesse Pinkman

You called Seto and when he answered he was a little agitated because Mokuba was no where to be found and he thought you would be asking about how to work the printer again

But when you told him how you had Mokuba all the agitation in his voice decimated

He let a soft that I you a hanged up only 5 minutes later he showed up at your door even though you never told him your address

When he saw you he just got this feeling that he couldn’t explain

It wasn’t until you asked him if he wanted to get coffee did he realize what he was feeling

He wouldn’t be surprised if he had hearts in his eyes for you

He told you he liked you a day later and you two started dating

The beginning of the relationship was a little awkward because of how little both of talk

It helped that you understood Seto’s schedule so you ok with him coming home really late in the night

He buys you a lot of things that you probably don’t need

You always watch over Mokuba instead of the guards when he can’t

When he does come home on time he always leaves super early in the morning

Whenever he comes home late he always climbs into bed with you

“Did I wake you? I’m sorry go back to bed.”

“It’s fine. I was waiting for you but I got tired.”

I got inspired by a certain season to request this. Can I request headcanons of Yugi, Yami and Kaiba reacting to their S/O joining an evil organization and challenging them to a duel please? (Whether it's their own volition or their being brainwash, is up to you~)

I love battle city so I went with Marik controlling them for this! Lets go boys and ghouls hehehehehe

Notes: Sorry this took so long! I couldn't decide what to do for Yugi's part for a very long time!

❥Yugi

He pushed the pharaoh away from this duel. He wanted to save you, just as he saved Joey.

He may even tune out his friends to save you, or split off from them completely. He loves his friends, but he loves you more.

He demands Marik release you, and when he doesn't, he goes through with the duel.

He wins, expectedly, and when he sees a saw heading straight for your neck he wails out in terror.

"Y/N! NO!" He rushes forward and tugs you onto the floor just before the saw rips past.

In your confusion, you blink open your eyes and look up at Yugi. "Yu...Yugi...?"

"I'm here, I'm here. You're safe now." His tears streamed down his face as he slowly lifted you up.

He put a hand on your cheek and went in for a long kiss. The cries of his friends interruped him, making both of you turn and look at Joey, Tristan and Tea. Joey spoke first. "Y/n! Yugi! You okay?!"

"We're fine!" Yugi yelled from across the arena, then turned back to you. "I'll make sure nothing like that happens to you again."

"What...even happened?" You asked.

"I'll explain when we leave. I'm just so happy you're safe." He wiped his own tears away, then took you by the hand and led you out of there.

❥Yami Yugi

You mean so much to him, so much that he didn't allow Yugi to take over for this duel. He would rescue you himself, and then tear Marik apart.

Yami cursed Marik as he took over your every move and forced you to duel in a death trap.

He knew he had to beat you in order to have Marik relinquish control over you. As soon as he summoned Dark Magician, the duel was over.

The trap Marik had you in forced you under water, but in a tank. Not open water like Joey's.

Yami dove into the tank after you plunged. Marik released control of your mind, making you try to gasp for breath. In your confusion, you swallowed a lot of water.

Yami swam as fast as he could to you, hooked his hands under your arms and began trying to pull you up. His own strength could only take him so far, but before he knew it, Joey and Tristan had jumped in to help. Together, the three men pulled you out of the tank.

You coughed up some water after being turned on your side so you wouldn't choke. Yami held you close as you did, shaking and holding in tears.

"I thought I lost you forever..." He whispered.

"I'm here, I'm here..." You spoke reassuringly to both Yami and yourself.

"And you're not going anywhere without me." Yami tightened his hold just a little bit.

❥Seto Kaiba

He hates this. This is just like Mokuba being kidnapped, but you're right there.

You're right there but he can't reach you.

He doesn't know whether to beat you or let you win so you can be spared. It brings him back to his own antics towards Yugi during Duelist Kingdom.

Except you're not doing this of your own volition, he knows you aren't. He doesn't normally believe in supernatural things, but this is different.

He decides to beat you. While the duel goes on, he has a plan in his mind to free you from the trap as well as himself.

When he beats you, Marik laughs in your mind as he lets go of your mind control, thinking you're about to die. Seto however, springs into action, freeing you from getting a limb chopped off.

You have no idea what's going on, and honestly you feel really dizzy and your vision is blurry. Seto holds you close, calming down slowly knowing you're alive in his arms.

"S...Seto?" You asked, looking up at him.

Your vision was slowly coming back to you, and you recognized his white jacket. He didn't say anything for a moment, just continued to hold you. Then he spoke.

"It's okay, I have you now. Let's get out of here." Seto stands with you in his arms, leaving the building.

"What...happened?"

Seto begins to tell you the events leading up to the duel, how Marik had somehow possessed you and forced you to duel to the death with him, but he had managed to free both you and him. He then informed you that you were not to leave his side for the rest of his tournament.

: ̗̀➛ You first meet Yugi at his Grandfather’s Game Shop.

: ̗̀➛ You were a new duelist looking for a set of cards to start your journey.

: ̗̀➛ Yugi had never seen you around before. You didn’t go to his university and when he was in school, he hadn’t seen you there either. Nevertheless, his mouth became dry and his face flushed the second you walked through the door. 

: ̗̀➛ You explained to Yugi your situation. The tri-colour haired male had offered you help to create a formidable deck. He picked out all sorts of monster, spells and trap cards. 

: ̗̀➛ “Thank you so much Mr….” You trailed off, realising you hadn’t gotten his name. 

: ̗̀➛ “Moto. Yugi Moto,” he said proudly. 

: ̗̀➛ You went pale. THE King Of Games?! 

: ̗̀➛ Yugi couldn’t help but feel his heart beat faster as your lips curved up to offer him a shy smile. 

: ̗̀➛ “What’s your name?” He asked, wanting to keep you there for a few minutes longer. 

: ̗̀➛ “Y/N,” you replied. 

: ̗̀➛ “It’s nice to meet you Y/N,” Yugi smiled and offered out his hand for you to shake. 

: ̗̀➛ From that day on, Yugi was seeing you everywhere. It was like he couldn’t escape you both in his mind and in reality. 

: ̗̀➛ He told his friends about you, the beautiful woman that had come into his Grandfather’s shop in search of the perfect deck. Of course Yugi’s friends continuously encouraged him to ask you out the next time he saw you. 

: ̗̀➛ Yugi was unsure of what to do. He wanted to ask you out, he really did, but he was afraid of rejection. 

: ̗̀➛ The next time Yugi saw you was, once again, in his Grandfather’s Game Shop. 

: ̗̀➛ You walked in in a huff, looking distressed. Yugi became immediately worried upon seeing your distressed expression. “Y/N… What’s wrong?” He asked as he made his way to the front of the counter. 

: ̗̀➛ “I can’t play this stupid game!” You groaned, throwing your cards on the floor in a pile. 

: ̗̀➛ Yugi was slightly taken back by your… tantrum. 

: ̗̀➛ “You can. Everyone can. The trick is to believe in the heart of the cards!” Yugi replied. 

: ̗̀➛ “The heart of the what?” You asked, crinkling your nose up in confusion. 

: ̗̀➛ “The heart of the cards!” Yugi said, pausing before continuing. “As long as you believe in your cards, and have faith in them, you can never truly lose.” 

: ̗̀➛ You stared at Yugi as if he had three heads. You watched as he slowly bent down and scooped up your cards into a neat little pile, passing them to you with a gentle smile on his face. 

: ̗̀➛ “I can teach you,” Yugi offered. 

: ̗̀➛ You were shocked. 

: ̗̀➛ “You? The King Of Games? Teach me? A nobody?” 

: ̗̀➛ You couldn’t help but laugh slightly out of surprise, but when you looked at Yugi and saw a serious expression on his face, you halted the laughter immediately. 

: ̗̀➛ “I guess it couldn’t hurt…” You mumbled, shuffling your feet on the floor. 

: ̗̀➛ “Great. We’ll start tomorrow.” 

: ̗̀➛ The next day, at noon, you met Yugi at the Game Shop. He started by teaching you the basics of the game, what sorts of monsters did what, what spells and traps did what etc etc. You were listening intently, making mental note of all the things Yugi was saying to you. From that day on, the two of you became inseparable. 

: ̗̀➛ The next few weeks flew by so quickly, it was as if you had just blinked. With Yugi’s teachings you were becoming increasingly better at the game of Duel Monsters. By no means were you an expert, but you were getting better. 

: ̗̀➛ “That was a great game! Well done!” Yugi encouraged. He felt his breath hitch in his throat as you offered him a warm smile in return. 

: ̗̀➛ You see, over the last few weeks, Yugi had developed feelings for you and more than just the initial crush he had on you when you had first walked into the Game Shop. He was falling in love with you. You had gotten to learn all about him and in turn, he had gotten to learn all about you.

: ̗̀➛ His friends words constantly echoed in his head: “ask her out Yug’! What’s the worst that could happen?” So, Yugi took the plunge. 

: ̗̀➛ “Say Y/N…” he said, watching as you placed your deck of cards in your pocket and hand him the duel disk he so kindly lent you. You looked at him and tilted your head to the side as if to say ‘yes’. “Would you… Maybe… Like to accompany me to dinner? Tonight?” 

: ̗̀➛ You were surprised to say the least but didn’t think of it as anything more than a friendly dinner. “Sure,” you smiled.  

: ̗̀➛ Yugi was shocked at your willingness to have dinner with him, but tried to keep it cool. He watched as you left the Game Shop and immediately began preparing for the evening. He booked a reservation at his favourite restaurant and dressed up all fancy for you. 

: ̗̀➛ When you turned up at the Game Shop at 7pm, like you had agreed, Yugi was breath taken by your appearance. He always thought you were beautiful but there was something about tonight… He couldn’t put his finger on it, you looked even more stunning than usual. 

: ̗̀➛ When you arrived at the restaurant, Yugi immediately found a candle-lit table in the corner of the room and led you to it, pulling out the chair from the table and offering you a seat. 

: ̗̀➛ You blushed as he did this, a gesture you had never had from anybody before.

He spends most of the day in his study writing down the past few major events on papyrus sheets. His ability to write out perfect hieroglyphic symbols still impressed you to this day, honestly.

When he had finally decided to put his quill down for the night he noticed the sounds of excited squealing from the pharaohs sleeping chambers. His dear Queen/King, what could you be up to now, he wondered? You were always warm and happy like the sun, he wondered if you ever could truly harbor hatred for another human.

As he stepped into the temples sleeping chambers he was immediately met with the sight of red and white lights illuminating the walls, and petals covering the ground. He wasnt very good at expressing it, but it made his heart flutter. Making his way to your shared qaurters .. wow.. before him was a heartwarming sight.

You, his lovely queen/king sitting in a pure satin laced night gown, holding out a cake to him. ‘I ♡ you Atem!’ was written across it with icing.

HELLO!! 😋 I hope you're doing good today! I don't know if you write/specialize In comfort fics/drabbles but, I've been dwelling on something for some time.

and I just wanted to drop off a request for a comfort drabble between a really melancholic, like maybe even outright miserable reader who (lets just say after a very intense fight with someone, that mostly insisted of reader being put down), decides to visit yugi muto to cheer themselves up, but yugi definitely picks up on reader's distress and after some poking from him,- reader just finally cracks and allows yugi to see their tears?

Yugi could tell something wasn't right the moment you stepped into his small, humble game shop. The bell above the door chimed softly as you stepped through, letting it click shut with a gentle nudge of your foot. Yugi’s ears perked up at the familiar sound, his eyes immediately flicking in your direction as he sat behind the front counter. You greeted your long-time friend with a small wave and a smile adorning your lips. A beaming smile stretched Yugi’s lips, only to slowly dissipate as his bright gaze scanned your features. Your smile didn't quite reach your eyes.

"Is everything alright?" Yugi asked. 

You bristled at the sudden question, not expecting it to be the first words that left his lips. You nodded in response, forcing your smile more as you silently held back the tears that threatened to spill over. 

"Of course" you replied, your own voice sounding foreign to your ears. 

That was a blatant lie. No, you were not fine. You felt like absolute shit. And the only thing that you felt that could make you feel better was being in Yugi’s comforting presence. You stood awkwardly at the door, refusing to move closer as Yugi continued to scrutinize you. He had known you for so long he could tell when something was bothering you. He tried to ignore the small sting when you brushed his concern off, your little lie obvious even to him. Your tongue wet your dry lips as your nervous gaze flickered around the room before finally focusing back to Yugi. You hesitated with your next question. 

"Why…do you ask?"

Yugi offered you a patient smile as he stepped out from behind the counter. He took a few slow steps in your direction, stopping several feet short as he peered up at you through dark lashes. He bashfully rubbed his hand across the nape of his neck, ruffling the dark strands of baby hair as his smile turned sheepish. 

"It, uh…kind of looks like you got a gloomy little cloud following you around" he said, hoping that the small joke would break the tension weighing in the air. 

It didn't. His answer only made your shoulders slump. A weary sigh fell from your parted lips, your smile faltering as the cracks in your facade started to finally show. 

"Is it that obvious?" you asked in a despondent tone. 

No, it wasn't. Yugi was just extremely good at picking up on the subtle indicators that gave away your true mood. A frown rugged at his lips as he scanned you from up close, noting the way your entire body slouched like there was a heavy weight pressing down on your shoulders. You looked tired; the heavy, puffy bags under your eyes a clear indication that you had been rubbing the skin raw for quite some time. The thought of you crying was enough to make the young man’s heart ache for you. 

"Are you sure you are okay?" Yugi gently prodded.

He had the purest of intentions at heart. He didn't like to see you suffer in any way. He wanted to know what was bothering and help if he possibly could. He didn't like prying but he hoped that you could see that his concern was coming from a place of kindness. You did recognise that and it only made the deep ache in your bones worse. You knew that Yugi was only trying to be kind to you yet you hated burdening him with your miserable feelings, struggling even now to be vulnerable to someone you held so dear to you. 

But you think you're at your limit. You didn't think you could keep up this poor excuse of a charade much longer. Your mind was exhausted from the intense, heated argument that you had just come from. You had been belittled and it had cut you deep, those words echoing in your ears and haunting you on your short walk to this safe haven. So, when Yugi asked you again if you were okay, you couldn't find the strength in you anymore to lie. 

A constellation of tears clung to your lashes as you started to shake your head, teeth sinking into your bottom lip as you stifled the pathetic sob that wanted to crawl out of your throat. You swallowed around the lump that got stuck, a tight knot sitting heavy in your lungs as you looked at Yugi with tearful eyes.

"No, I'm not okay" you croaked, voice threatening to crack with each word. 

A mix of emotions swirled in Yugi’s chest. He was elated that you finally trusted him to admit how you were feeling and utterly devastated at the sad look painted across your features. For a moment, he became paralysed as you struggled to fight back your tears in a losing battle, a few crystalline beads slipping down your cheeks as you tried desperately to steady your breathing. The tips of his fingers felt numb as he held out his hands, voice calm as he tried to soothe your raging thoughts. 

"Do you want to talk about it?"

You immediately shook your head, unable to verbally respond without fear of your heart jumping straight out of your throat. You would tell him, but not right now. The gears in Yugi’s head continued to turn as he thought of something else, mind and heart itching to soothe your pain to the best of his ability. 

"Do you want a hug?"

As soon as the words left his lips, you quickly close the distance that lingered between you. A bright flush of heat enveloped his face as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, pulling him straight into a tight embrace. Yugi gasped for breath as you nearly suffocated him in your crushing grip, holding onto him so tightly like you feared he was suddenly going to dissipate into thin air. With a patient smile he endured, politely placing his hands in the middle of your back as your tears silently wet the collar of his shirt. 

"It's okay, let it out" Yugi murmured with a soothing voice. "You can cry as much as you need."

Neither of you were sure how long you stood there holding onto each other, but each passing moment made the maelstrom of emotions swelling inside of you just a little bit more bearable. Yugi awkwardly cleared his throat to break the silence, hands rubbing soothing circles into your back as he tried to gain your attention.

For a moment you had briefly forgotten that you were having a breakdown in the middle of his grandpa’s game shop and anyone could stumble open this utter train wreck you were currently experiencing. This is kinda hard because like I said in his kink he likes risky stuff but if it’ll get you in trouble he wouldn’t do it. A fic idea that popped into my mind as I went back to rewatch what was still available of season 0. Doesn’t matter the season, Yugi is just so gosh darn precious…!

As someone who likes fluff, I realized that I don’t normally write openly optimistic/encouraging fics like this one, so it was an experience. I had to end it on that line, no matter how cheesy (๑≧艸≦) I can’t read it without hearing the m-m-m-m-meme-d version of it—

As the rays of the afternoon sun flooded through the classroom windows, steadying my hands, I carefully placed down the angled cards. While my designated seat was at the opposite end, the degree of warmth that submerged the near lifeless room gradually increased as time ticked on.

I had long forgotten the rocky start I had at the beginning of the semester. And gradually, I had came to cherish the irreplaceable friends and memories I made at school. Everyday, no matter how small or mundane, I would look forward to the time I could spend with my friends. During our breaks, we’d gather together. We would play some games, chat, and there would almost always be laughter. Similarly, when school was out for the day, we’d spend a little time hanging out before heading home for the night.

‘And this afternoon will be fun, too!’ … … Is what I would like to say.

I took another pair of playing cards; a soft tap sounded as I levelled them on my desk. And as I delicately placed the arched stock paper, I recalled how this situation came to be.

Anzu, in preparation for an upcoming evaluation in her dance lessons, had been leaving as soon as the last bell of the day sounded so she could get in as much practice as she could. Miho, being Anzu’s closest friend, would leave with her to support and cheer her on. Honda, taking pride in being a part of the school’s custodian body, had his share of responsibilities around the school to see to. And last, but definitely not least, was Jonouchi. When no one else was free, we’d spend the afternoon with whatever caught our interests that day. Tabletop games, manga, the arcades— we went along with wherever our whims took us. But today, having owned Honda a favour, he had been pulled aside to help with the routine duties.

While I said I’d wait for Jonouchi until he finished what was asked of him, it would have been a lie if I didn’t say I was a little lonely. I thought I had forgotten this feeling— the loneliness I used to have…

To distract myself, I busied myself by building a house of cards, hiding away in its shade as it grew higher and higher. By now, although still in arm's reach, the top of the tower was above head height. Standing, I continued working on the construct.

It was strange, though. It was hard to put into words and describe the feeling, but even when I was alone, there were times when I felt like I wasn’t.

“Ah!!” Too focused on the moment, by the time I realized what was about to happen and had grasped the pendant in my hands, it was too late. With the gentle fluttering of the cards, in a flash, I watched as the tall pyramid came crashing down. Its contents dispersed on and around my desk. “... Aw, man…”

I looked down at the ‘culprit’ cupped in the palms of my hands. A dazzling gleam radiated from the golden puzzle basked in the light, a hint of a reflection looking back at me. Unable to find it within me to be frustrated or disappointed, I could feel a small smile spread on my lips. Wasting no time, I started to play a quick round of 52-pickup.

“Here.”

I followed the upbeat voice, finding your gentle expression standing at the end of it. “T-thanks! Uhm…” As I took the stray card you picked up, my voice trailed off as I realized I couldn't put a name to your face.

“[L/n], [F/n] from class A, but just call me [F/n]. And what’s yours?”

“I’m Yugi! It’s nice to meet you!”

“Hey, Yugi-kun,” A playful tone sounded as you crouched down to meet me. “That was an amazing castle. Would it be okay if you let me help you rebuild it?”

“Sure!” Swallowing my hesitation, I quickly mustered all the courage I had, “A–and if you’re interested, I also have other games we could play!”

“You do?” There was an kind sparkle to your eyes as you agreed, “Sure! Sounds like fun!”

Maybe days like this won’t be so lonely after all…

This afternoon, too…

I got to play games with Yugi again.

“Ah–” The gears clicked in place as you realized your mistake.

Things were already too late as you watched Yugi flip the one and final card he had needed to win the game, turning your previous play against you. “And that's my win!”

You gave a defeated sigh in response to his chipper declaration, “And that's my loss…” But the weary facade didn't last, dissipating just as quick as when you recognized your previous mistake. Perhaps seeing that you finally grasped a solid understanding of the fundamentals, Yugi wanted to test you and didn't let his winning chance slip by. Throughout the game, on countless occasions, the match could have prematurely ended if it weren't for him generously letting you undo some of your mistakes. You wouldn't have gotten this far otherwise. “You’re really amazing, Yugi-kun. It’s your first day playing and you’re already able to explain everything so clearly.” Giving a stretch, you shrugged it off, an airy comment slipping from you as you started to regather all your cards. “Not that I expected I could win against you on my first try. I’ve learned that much when we first met.”

“...” Eyes casted downwards, Yugi fell silent at your words as a thought flashed through him. “Sorry…”

“Hm?” But your spirited hum came to a halt as you noticed his quiet introspection, “No need to be.”

“... It doesn’t matter what game, whenever we play together, I’m always the one winning.” The air was stiff as he solemnly admitted, “It must not be fun to play with me…”

By now, you felt like you had a well-founded idea of what type of person Yugi was and that he wasn’t someone who’d act without reason. Putting together what you knew of him in tandem with your previous utterance, something must have happened between the last time the two of you hung out. That ‘something’ must have had to do with his peerless understanding and success with any game he encounters.

With your share of cards now in your hands, you squared off your deck. The audible clack from them took Yugi’s gaze off his lap. “I don’t think so.”

“Huh?”

“Starting something new doesn't mean I'll always do well. And just because I lost or that something is difficult doesn't mean I can't still enjoy it.” Placing your deck of spiralled-back trading cards on Yugi’s side of the field, you continued your train of thought, “Win or lose, first time or not— whenever we play together, we get to spend time together and I get to learn something new. I think that’s already exciting in itself. It might not be in Duel Monsters, but I'll steal a win from you someday— Just you wait!”

Dumbfounded at your straight forward, good faith, as much as he tried to hide it, you could see that Yugi always wore his heart on his sleeves. This time was no different as his astonishment was replaced with a sheepish and heartfelt smile.

“Now, come on!” You urged him along. “I’m waiting for you so I can shuffle your cards. I think I’ve got the hang of things and I’m not done trying to win yet. Or is it that you would like me to pick your cards for you, too?”

“Ah! N-no…! I— Um…!!” Snapping back to his senses, you watched as he scrambled to compile his cards. Lining up his deck, he gave a bashful glance and chuckle as he traded off his cards to you, “Heh… Thanks, [F/n].”

With his spirits lifted, you give him a giggle of your own, “Don’t mention it.”

“Alright,” After a thorough shuffle, sliding the deck back to their original player, the two of you exchanged a nod and a look of understanding as you both declared the start of the new round:

“It’s time to duel!”

The True Meaning(Yugi Muto x Female Reader)

What could be more fun than a small hang out party with friends? It was our usual hang out night at Yugi’s home. We start off with a couple of board games, and the last winner of the games gets to choose a movie for the night. Popcorn and soda as our dinner. 

Yugi and I have known each other for a long time. Since babies, I suppose you could say. We’ve grown up together, doing practically everything together. But lately, I’ve noticed him spacing out around me. He would have his eyes closed, having a very odd and creepy smile as he daydreamed. I never really questioned it, since he is passing through puberty like the rest of us. 

Now, besides him being tremendously odd, I have to worry about him getting taller than me. At the start of freshman year in high school, I had look down at the little midget. To my surprise, in the middle of senior year, he’s an inch taller than me. More handsome, too.

But he was my friend. I couldn’t think like that after everything we have been through. These were common thoughts I got during my time with the named boy. In fact, it’s happening as I grab popcorn bags from the cabinet with Yugi. 

And, from taking so long in grabbing the snack, I realize how quiet Yugi has gotten. With his quietness, I got worried to the point of checking on him. 

“You smell really nice.” 

I froze before even turning to look at my childhood friend. I’m sorry? Was I missing something? I slowly turn to him, a little freaked out by the creepy words that spewed out of his mouth just now. 

“Wh-what...?” I try to get confirmation from the boy himself to make sure I was just hearing things. Unfortunately, he had that weird daydreaming face again. Eyes closed with that creepy smile that will forever haunt my dreams. 

I called his name unconsciously, bringing him back to the real world. His body jolted, magenta eyes coming back to life. “Huh?” He raises an eyebrow.

“Did you just...did you just say I smelled nice?” My face burned from the embarrassment. 

He choked on air, processing what I just said. When he looked away with bright red cheeks, that’s when I knew he really did say those words. “I-um...I’m sorry...that must’ve been really creepy...” He was having a hard time forming words.

I chuckled at the awkwardness between us. Never has that really happened. “Yugi...you are so weird.”

He looks at me with widened eyes. “Huh?! B-but...!”

I turn away, putting the popcorn in the microwave. “You smell nice, too.” I give him a wide smile with reddened cheeks. Then, I leave the kitchen to check on the rest of the group.

If anybody knew Yugi from the inside out, then they would’ve noticed the meaning behind his words. I just hope he knows, too, the meaning behind my words.

If you happen to be asleep when he awakes he'll stay quiet but he's very embarrassed. He'd never admit falling asleep on your shoulder. His initial reaction his a blush forming on his cheeks and him internally shocked by his actions. Even if he was asleep he still believes it to be embarrassing.

He'll secretly be thankful about it later and might day dream about cuddling you later

If you also happen to be awake when he realizes what happened then his face is turning red and he's stuttering apologies. All about how he didn't mean to get into your space or make you uncomfortable. He'd also express not meaning to fall asleep on you.

Depending on your reaction his heart will be skipping beats. Maybe you explain not minding him falling asleep on your shoulder or you tell him you thought it was cute. Any sort of compliment would make his heart beat more. If you decide to hold his hand his brain might short circuit.

He'd be so flustered the rest of the car ride. Without a doubt he'd avoid eye contact with you.

Later on he'd day dream about you when he looks back at falling asleep on your shoulder. He'll start thinking of cute scenarios in which he is slow dancing with your or perhaps sharing a milkshake with you.

Mokuba still dresses up, and he tries his hardest to get Seto to as well, but it just never happens. You're not an exception, unfortunately

Unless you get a blue eyes white dragon onesie.

He'll go as himself then, and you're his trusty dragon

Otherwise, he won't care about dressing up and will let you go as whatever, so long as its outside of the scandalous range. He's very much in the public eye, remember? He's also a raging virgin, so leave the risque costumes for private time

He'll probably especially enjoy it if you tell him it doubles as a birthday present
