God's Country (2022, dir. Julian Higgins) - review by Rookie-Critic

God's Country almost slipped past my radar. I hadn't heard of it before Tuesday of this week and I went to see it on Thursday, which I believe was the last day it was showing anywhere in my area. Sandra (played by the massively underrated Thandie Newton, who practically carries the film), is a professor at a university in rural Montana who gets into a vicious back and forth with a couple of trespassing hunters while also navigating general racism and sexism that naturally exist out in areas like that. I don't have a ton to say about this one. It maybe moved a little slow and the movie definitely leaves you with a weight in your gut. Much like Breaking, which I reviewed not too long ago, this is a movie about an incredibly real problem with incredibly real consequences, and they are not hopeful. There is no redemption here, no reprieve from the deeply entrenched bigotry, and the weight of that is heavy and palpable. My only real complaint with the film is that it moves a little too slow and therefore takes about a quarter of the film's total runtime to even kind of get going. I enjoyed this one, but I probably won't watch it again.

A ese espíritu rocanrolero de sana intrascendencia que embriaga “Kiln House”, los cambiantes Fleetwood Mac le añadieron 5 canciones de corte diverso y más tranquilo. Bueno... “Jewel Eyed Judy” es un poco engañosa, porque en ella alternan un inicio folk- rock (un poco “Little Black Egg”, un poco “The Crying Game”) con un estribillo eléctrico y gritón, definitivamente rock & roll. “Earl Gray” es una perla atmosférica de Danny Kirwan que ya subí en otra ocasión, y “One Together” un pequeño tema country- folk con abundancia de voces. “Blood On The Floor” me la puedo imaginar en la voz de Elvis. Las dos últimas son composiciones de Jeremy Spencer, el hombre de "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonite".

Pero tal vez lo más curioso y extravagante llega en el último corte, su versión de “Mission Bell” de Donnie Brooks. La banda otorga al limpio tema pop con campanitas de 1960 de un inicio misterioso casi Jefferson Airplane, que alternan con el fantasma de Buddy Holly. Gran final.

“Kiln House” es un poco como “Ram” de McCartney, cuando la sencillez y escasas pretensiones fructifican en un disco entretenido y brillante.

People in the End Realm cannot escape by simply dying. Was banished from the Ether Realm but used to be a ruler there. - (Inspited by: Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy in Chinese folk religion, as well as King Yan, the God of Death; Queen Angela from She-Ra) - No voice claim yet, but I take requests!

Caelus - Angel (by this universe's definition) - he/him - Bisexual - 35 y.o - The Lord of the Sky. The Overlord who is responsible for everything in the sky (duh).
