But Galadriel said: 'Not in Middle-earth, nor until the lands that lie under the wave are lifted up again. Then in the willow-meads of Tasarinan we may meet in the Spring. Farewell!'
And people call Gandalf cryptic and mysterious... (She does it better, IMHO.)

In the willow-meads of Tasarinan I walked in the Spring.
Ah! the sight and smell of the Spring in Nan-tasarion!
And I said that was good.
I wandered in the Summer in the elm-woods of Ossiriand.
Ah! the light and the music in the Summer by the Seven Rivers of Ossir!
And I thought that was best.
To the beeches of Neldoreth I came in the Autumn.
Ah! the gold and the red and the sighing of leaves in the Autumn in Taur-na-neldor!
It was more than my desire.
To the pine-trees upon the highland of Dorthonion I climbed in the Winter.
Ah! the wind and the whiteness and the black branches of Winter upon Orod-na-Thôn!
My voice went up and sang in the sky.
And now all those lands lie under the wave,
And I walk in Ambaróna, in Tauremorna, in Aldalómë,
In my own land, in the country of Fangorn,
Where the roots are long,
And the years lie thicker than the leaves
In Tauremornalómë.

- Treebeard’s song about the lost lands of Beleriand, sunk during the War of Wrath. Two Towers, Treebeard.

another worldbuilding question regarding my plans for a Sauron goes west AU. In a world where the magic of Arda never really goes away to give way for a third age and beyond, instead settling into a more stable world of high fantasy, do you think that Beleriand would ever rise up from the depths as some point like there are hints it would at some point in the Original text, or is the OG land of the elves doomed to forever lay beneath the waves?
basically a reverse situation of how tolkien notes that the misty mountains were beginning to sink in latitude after the events of lotr, and would mark the turning point of Middle earth beginning it's tectonic changes into Earth as we know it. so instead the earth begins a slow, but steady rise up from the depths, where Beleriand is cracked and has huge changes in the landscape, but you can recognize the lands the same way you can recognize the continents from 2 million years ago.
I looked it up to confirm, and the only hint I see that Beleriand would rise again is Galadriel's goodbye to Treebeard in RotK: "Not in Middle-earth, nor until the lands that lie under the wave are lifted up again. Then in the willow-meads of Tasarinan we may meet in the spring."
To me, that's just fancy flowery elf-talk for "Not in this world" AKA "Not in this lifetime." So I don't see some kind of independent mechanic for Beleriand's return which doesn't involve the end of the world and the typical post-apocalyptic perfection prophesied by Christian faiths.
Thematically, I think Beleriand staying sunk makes sense because there's no reversal of deterioration across the Ages. The Second Age isn't as wondrous as the First, the Third isn't as wondrous as the Third, and the whole bittersweet ending of LotR is about the ending of the Fourth. (I thought for a while that the Fourth was supposed to be regular human history, but apparently Tolkien wrote that we're living in the sixth of seventh. I wonder how he figures that's divided up.) The mountains lose their heights because nothing is ever as cool as it used to be. (And if we posit that all the good things in Tokien's mythology are about him idolizing the stuff he grew up with, then his universe literally runs on the power of nostalgia.) To make anything rise again would be to fight the natural order of things. Eru Iluvatar made a reality with an expiration date- entropy is built in. So things become lost that can never be regained, very sad, unless you buy the supplementary books where you can read the original edition of The Hobbit where Gollum held up his end of the riddle-bet.
However, this is your story, so there's no reason someone or something can't acquire and exercise the power to make such a thing happen, if you want it. The Valar were the ones whose power essentially sank it, so something on the same level could theoretically drain it out, and if you're willing to make it a long-term project for someone, perhaps you can go a few power-levels down to a Maiar.

“Then Treebeard said farewell to each of them in turn, and he bowed three times slowly and with great reverence to Celeborn and Galadriel. ‘It is long, long since we met by stock or by stone, A vanimar, vanimálion nostari!’ he said. 'It is sad that we should meet only thus at the ending. For the world is changing: I feel it in the water, I feel it in the earth, and I smell it in the air. I do not think we shall meet again.’
And Celeborn said: 'I do not know, Eldest.’ But Galadriel said: 'Not in Middle-earth, nor until the lands that lie under the wave are lifted up again. Then in the willow-meads of Tasarinan we may meet in the Spring. Farewell!”

Now that it’s piano-not-sticking weather, I’m back to working on the song cycle.  There’s a section in the third verse of “In the Willow-Meads of Tasarinan” that has triplets in the piano part under straight eighth notes in the vocals, and I am Suffering™

Now all these lands lie under for the meme?
sigh the whoooolllle thiiiinnnng fine fine it IS short and pretty unsegmented. link for ref
I deliberately misinterpreted the prompt line, which refers to the dunedain of gondor, because i am a dick. anghraine probably wasn’t v amused.
This is a fic style I had abandoned years ago after overusing it as a teenager but curiously enough ents are one of the few character types it really works for.
The Willow-Meads of Tasarinan has been one of my absolute favorite tolkien songs/poems since I first read it, i really liked the different type of verse scheme, and there’s something so…idk, indescribable about it, the precision and weight and expanse, that typifies the ‘you can only talk about this via fic not meta’ thing in tolkien. extrapolating it out into the future instead of the past of the lotr fulcrum – the same ideas but most of the beleriand references taken out, is just a nice timeflow thing
i can’t remember if the ice-age theory was a canon one tolkien mentioned somewhere or a completely fanon one i heard from fans, but it’s so goooood. a magical land that sank beneath the sea is such a mainstay of myth, whereas ice age is a much more real-world, physical history sort of thing. i am forever gripped by the way tolkien phrases things as “it was lost” “she was lost” “he was lost” etc. the idea that the place of stories is there, but it’s out of reach or the path is scrambled
the dwarves….yavanna’s people only vanish when aule’s people do
i think most people would guess the elf was celeborn but i didn’t want to say it outright. anyway now it’s a lullaby, like it once was a waking song.
ending? uh, the ending is a thing! i usually don’t have the stomach to write stuff like that tbh. but the sort of blending in, with treebeard remembering how much he loved the lands he walked in, they would make a perfect bed/blanket/grave/coffin

Just saw you answered you fav. Bellarke AU's - so would you mind sharing your fav. Bellarke Canonverse fics!?
i have a bellarke canonverse fic rec here but since it’s a year old, let me add a few:
And It’s Like No Time Has Passed by @katchyalater | G | 3k | season 5 spec scene between bellamy and clarke 6 years later. i just read this last night and looooved it so much, gorgeous writing and characterization. WISH IT WERE ACTUALLY CANON , DAMMIT.
The Post Apocalyptic Guide to Raising a Hero by somethingofatrainwreck | M | 40k | Clarke and Bellamy have casual sex and whoops, end up having a kid and having to raise him together. All platonically, OF COURSE. This fic isn’t fluffy, it’s full of realistic hardships and not-so-fun things and addresses difficult themes without blinking, but that makes the love between them so much sweeter.
Hearts Like Ours by @verbam | E | 9k | happy, post-series, its-finally-over-and-we-can-live bellarke smut. I’ve read it countless times.
All Precious Things Discovered Late by @rashaka | E | 7k | canon divergent after s3– while on a mission, Clarke and Bellamy take shelter in an abandoned house to wait out the weather. The longer they’re alone together, the harder it is to ignore that things have changed. (aaand bed sharing! what’s not to love).
A Blush of Love by @bllrke | T | 6k | canon divergent after s3– a tale about bellamy and clarke realizing their love for each other while they try to save their corner of the world. Breathtakingly poetic prose. every line could be a gifset. and if good characterization is a deal-breaker for you, this author is your GIRL.
in the willow-meads of tasarinan, i walked in the spring by @kylorenvevo | T | a canon-verse twist on “accidentally took a love potion/aphrodisiac and then ran into crush“, set some unspecified number of years after s2. this one is just really sweet??
Seasons Change, the Song’s the Same by @katchyalater | G | 5k | Clarke gets really into plants and brings Bellamy along for the ride. THIS IS JUST SO FUN, OK, LET ME LIVE,, if you like fluffy canonverse stuff read this.
Watercolors by @rashaka | E | 13k | post-s3 canon divergent smut vignettes. basically after the s3 finale, bell and clarke start bangin’ like bunnies. on the down low of course. and they don’t talk about it.
BONUS, here are a couple lil drabbles i enjoy:
Bathing by @hawthornewhisperer
A Little More of This (nsfw) and Nap by @verbam
Belated by @bllrke
