As someone who has my emotions locked in a box under 7 layers of chains, something I like to fantasise about is getting to have a really ugly hold-nothing-back hysterical cry in the arms of an f/o and they don't get sick of me or judge me or tell me to pull it together! They are totally fine with comforting me for as long as I need it and they don't minimise my pain, in fact they kind of feel a purpose and honour in holding and protecting me.

Chapter Six: Warm Water
“I spent Thanksgiving with somebody who wasn’t Rina this time around. I’m sure you guessed it, so yes, it was with Toji and his family,” you smile. “They have such different personalities but I can tell they really care for each other. I almost started crying in the middle of it.”
You recount the last couple of weeks to Ezra while wiping him down with a warm towel. You know that the nurses do the same but you want to do something for him as well. You gently lay him back into the bed and dip the towel into the bowl of water beside you. “I guess you can say that we’re dating now. Well not that I guess, Toji said that. Actually, he asked to be together and I agreed. He wouldn’t force anything on me,” you explain to him. “Maybe it’s because I haven’t been in a relationship in so long but everything is so exciting. He still visits the shop when he can, but now I spend the weekends with him and his son.”
Your eyes widen as you realize what you admitted to your brother. “Before you get upset, Megumi’s a real sweet kid. And there’s no ex wife or girlfriend that I’m dealing with. I think the mom may have passed away, but I will wait for them to tell me when they’re ready. I think you’d like Megumi. He loves animals. I told him that you were a vet and he had so many questions that only you could answer,” you smile apologetically. “He has a little journal of different animals and their traits, then he gives those animals to different people in his life. Toji is a wolf. Yuji is a tiger. That’s Megumi’s best friend who he loves very much, even if he won’t admit it. Nobara is a fox. That’s his other best friend. Gojo’s a peacock, Nanami is a great white shark, Sukuna’s a bear, and Choso’s a jellyfish. You’ll know who I’m talking about when you wake up.”
You push a thick curl out of Ezra’s face. “I should give you a haircut,” you mutter. You clutch your hand in a fist next to his head. “It’s not that I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. You know that I’m a hopeless romantic. I fell in love too many times to count,” you chuckle to yourself. You pull your hand back into your lap and sigh. “But with him I feel… I feel safe. I realize that before I was always waiting for the ball to drop, for another horrific incident to blindside me, but I haven’t felt that impending doom hanging over my head in a while.” You release a shuddering breath and blink up at the fluorescent lights to avoid crying.
“I’m starting to clean up their house. I found mom’s cookbooks, if you can even call them that. You know she had that doctor handwriting that’s impossible to read. I also know that she never really measured anything, so all those recipes are her estimating,” you laugh softly. “I’m thinking about making those cardamon lumps she used to make for us during the holidays for Toji. I also have no idea what to get him for Christmas. Oh, speaking of getting things, I got you another book!” You dig in your bag to retrieve the new book.
You give a small smile. “It’s called Before the Coffee Gets Cold. It’s a book about time traveling, surprisingly. I won’t spoil it too much, but I would love to travel back to talk to mom and dad again, even if it won’t change anything. They even have an old cafe that they always went to that could work like the book.”
 Before you could say another word a monitor above Ezra’s head started to beep rapidly. You look at it with concern, unsure of what the machine was reading. Within seconds the other monitors screech as well. You watch in horror while red flashes on all of the screens. Ezra’s expression hasn’t changed, but you rush out of the room, screaming for a nurse or anybody to come help. A few orderlies hear your distress, alerting nearby nurses that run to your location. They all swarm to Ezra’s side, checking his vitals and yelling codes at each other. You watch helplessly behind them. Another orderly tries to pull you away from the scene but you stood stock still.
“Ma’am, you need to leave the room now.”
“Will he be okay? What’s going on?”
“He’s getting the best treatment possible, but please, you can’t stay here.”
“What’s wrong with him? What are they saying?”
“Ma’am please,” the orderly gives you a pained look.
Tears swim in your eyes when you look back onto the bed. A swirl of green, blue and white mix together when the tears get heavy enough. You allow yourself to be pulled away from the room as ordered, leaving the nurses and now doctor to treat your brother. You are led to the waiting room by yourself. The orderly offers to get water but you wave her away. You pace back and forth in the small space, your mind running wild with all the worst possibilities. In haste you trip over your own feet, stumbling into a chair at the last second to avoid hurting yourself, but everything hurts. Your heart clenches, your stomach is churning, your breaths are shallow. With shaky hands you grab your phone, pressing the first contact on your call log. With two rings the line picks up, and you're greeted with Toji’s deep voice.
“Hey baby, how are you?”
You can’t speak. The grief is too much, an invisible hand that constricts your throat so that only a choked sob falls from your lips. You want to explain what’s happening but fail again. Toji starts to panic on the other line, trying to get information out from you but the only thing he can hear is you weeping.
“Send me your location. Can you hear me? Just let me know where you are, I’ll come to you.”
“I’m at the hospital,” you whisper. “I don’t want to be alone.”
“Is it your brother? You won’t be alone.”
Toji’s answer was another wave of tears from you. He hates to hear you cry so hard, and he hates that he’s so far away from you. He looks at Nanami, who already saw his demeanor change and waves him away.
“I got it from here,” the blond man says. Toji gives him an appreciative nod, leaving him with the bloody men they cornered. Nanami already paid him no mind, getting down to business without him.
Toji looks down at the mess on the floor and realizes he has blood on his shoes. He couldn’t scare you any more with that. He doesn’t want to scare you at all. Your last words echo in his head before he hung up, about how you didn’t want to be alone. He leaves Nanami without saying another word.
Back at the hospital you wait in the empty waiting room. Despite you declining it the first time, a styrofoam cup of water sits beside you brought by the orderly. You flick it every so often, watching the ripples bounce, cross, and settle on the sides. You’ve calmed down from your call to Toji. Now there’s a cold, mucky feeling sitting heavy on your chest. You empty the contents within the cup in one gulp, trying to wash it down, but the room temperature water felt like slime going down your throat.

au+trope+prompt game, Klaine:
babysitter!au
exes
“you have the emotional capacity of a brick.”
I'm so sorry about the last one, but I'm curious to see how you fix it :)
thank you so much for the ask! unfortunately, i lost the original prompt a bit in writing this. I wanted to leave the dynamic pretty open-ended so sorry if it’s a little off. hope you enjoy regardless!!

fic can be read under the cut!
~~~
Kurt has decided that he is going to kill Rachel Berry.
He’s never been one to consider murder as an option before, but it does feel appropriate that Rachel should be his first.
“Are you serious, Rachel?” Kurt asks in exasperation. He had agreed to babysit his nephews so that his step-brother and his wife could go on a date night. However, he should have figured that Rachel always had ulterior motives.
“It’ll be fine, Kurt! Your nephew really wanted to spend time with his Uncle Kurt and Uncle Blaine. Just this once, I promise!” Uncle Blaine? Since when did Blaine get upgraded to uncle? Before Kurt had a chance to argue, Rachel prattled on. “Make sure Chester gets his bath and is in bed by 8:30. Thanks, babe, you’re the best!” She kissed Kurt on the cheek before quickly heading towards the door. “C’mon, Finn!”
Finn followed behind Rachel silently, but not without directing an apologetic look towards Kurt. God, Finn, you pushover.
Once the couple was out the door, Kurt stared at the door, hoping to burn a hole in the wood through sheer agitation alone.
“So, are you just gonna stand there and look pissy or are you gonna help me babysit?”
And there was Blaine. He was sitting on the couch through the entirety of Kurt’s interaction with Rachel, but Kurt had been resolutely not looking at him.
“This is a bad idea.”
“Sure is,” Blaine agreed, and even that irritated Kurt. Finally looking over towards Blaine, Kurt saw his ex-boyfriend holding his nephew in his arms. Kurt heaved a sigh and eventually sat down next to Blaine on the couch, careful to leave an acceptable amount of distance between the two of them.
“Two people aren’t needed to watch one kid.”
“Then leave,” Blaine stated evenly. This took Kurt by surprise by how easily Blaine said that to him. “You can either do that or get over yourself for one night.”
Though Kurt appeared he wanted to argue, he simply shook his head dismissively. He didn’t want to deal with this, but at the very least, he could tell that Blaine didn’t want to either. But it was just one night. He could do this. Sure, he and Blaine aren’t on the best of terms, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t handle one night with him. Even if the only reason they’re spending any amount of time together is because of Rachel and her incessant scheming.
The evening went on about as Kurt anticipated that it may: casual bickering between the two paired with taking care of his nephew. Bathtime was relatively painless, aside from the fact that Blaine was insistent on playing in the water with Chester, therefore getting water everywhere that Kurt had no doubt he would have to be the one to clean up.
Eventually, once Chester was put down for bed, Kurt and Blaine sat down in the silent living room, on opposite ends of the couch once more. Despite his nephew being an incredibly well-behaved kid, Kurt cannot imagine taking care of a child every single day. He’s honestly amazed that Finn and Rachel can do it. He sighed, only this time not from frustration, but from exhaustion.
“Wasn’t so bad, now was it?” Blaine finally spoke up, his voice carrying none of the bite from earlier in the evening. He must’ve been just as tired as Kurt was.
“Could’ve been worse, I guess.”
Blaine huffed a laugh that was without humor. “Sometimes, Kurt, you have the emotional capacity of a brick.”
At this, Kurt felt a bit indignant. “That’s hilarious coming from you.” Truly, as if Blaine has any right to be casting stones in the emotional availability department.
“I’m serious. You have so much you wanna say, I can tell. Just say it.” Blaine caught Kurt’s attention with that statement. “Look, I know that we didn’t break up on the best of terms, but come on. We’ve got to communicate better than this. Much as you may hate it, our lives are still going to be interconnected. No amount of arguing is going to change that.”
“Are you saying that you don’t hate it?”
“Seeing you from time to time? I can certainly think of worse things.”
Before Kurt could respond, Chester started to cry in the other room. “I got him,” Kurt said as he stood, ready to be away from this conversation. Blaine didn’t try to stop him, so Kurt left him to check on his nephew. Though not without thinking about what Blaine was implying. Does Blaine want to still spend time with Kurt?
It was all too much, too soon.
@lautski-week day 4 - Fireworks
Warnings: none / read on AO3 here
Tumblr media
--
"They're running a fireworks display down at the docks!" Pete came running up to his friends, a flyer in his hand. They never did anything interesting enough in Hatchetfield, not enough to worth noting, anyway. So this was exciting.
Richie's eyes lit up. "When?"
"At the weekend! I might go, y'know? You guys coming with?"
"I'm down!"
"Me too!" Ruth grinned, grabbing the flyer when Pete offered it out. She and Richie looked it over together, committing the date, time and location to memory as best as they could.
While they were occupying themselves with that, Pete glanced over to Steph to see if she would be joining him. He swore she looked nervous, but he didn't want to find himself mistaken. She met his eye, and then immediately went to find the flyer with a rapid glance. He tried to get anything else off her, but it was as if any nervousness she did hold, she was hiding.
That wasn't brought up again until they were all walking home. Pete deliberately hung back and eventually managed to get Steph to do the same. "So... Are you gonna be there?"
"I dunno, Pete..."
"This about your dad?"
"No, it's just-" She glanced ahead, to see whether Ruth and Richie were paying attention. When she found out they weren't, she sighed. "I don't do too well with... y'know, loud noises and stuff..."
For a moment, Pete tried to recall what music he remembered Steph listening to. She tended to prefer the kind with guitar heavy backgrounds, didn't she? And there'd been more than one occasion where he thought he could hear what she was listening to through her headphones. "Really?"
As if she'd read his mind, she added, "yeah, most people don't really think about it, cos I like rock, but y'know, I can manage that. It's different with music."
He nodded as if he understood. In a way, he sort of did. Having control over something always felt better than not being able to manage it and feeling overwhelmed when it happened. On one hand, he really wanted Steph to be there, and he wanted it to be all of them, but on the other hand, the last thing he wanted was to make her uncomfortable in any capacity. And that had to include taking into account the fact that she couldn't deal with loud environments.
"I know it's weird, it's a weird mix."
"No, no I know what you mean. You don't actually have the music loud if you don't feel like it, but fireworks come in one volume and... That's kinda it."
She hummed, almost apologetic. Pete wanted to reassure her that she had nothing to apologise for. "I guess it'd be fine if we were further away, but the docks isn't exactly a large place, and I don't think I'd be able to get back far enough..."
"It's okay-"
"I wanna go, Pete, I do! I like hanging out with you guys."
Suddenly, Pete had an idea. He smiled slightly, and reached for her hand. "If we can make it work, would you come?"
"If you can make it work?"
"Just trust me!"
Steph was the first to leave the group on the way back home. Pete caught up with Ruth and Richie, going over his idea in his head to make sure it didn't sound like complete bullshit when he said it out loud. She liked hanging out with them... So, he had to make an effort to make it worth it. If she wanted to hang out with them, they could totally make this work!
"Hey, guys, can I ask you something?"
Ruth slowed her pace, and glanced up at Pete. She could see that his mind was starting to race, and before he started going too fast, she nodded, wanting to let him get his ideas out. "Okay.. Sure, what d'you wanna ask?"
"I dunno whether I should be telling you guys this, it's not really my business, but it's about Steph. She wants to come at the weekend, but she's not really good at dealing with loud spaces, if you know what I mean... So, I was wondering, could we get somewhere we could still see the docks from, so she could still come and we could still see the fireworks?"
He fully rejoined their little gathering. Richie looked a little surprised at the news, but he was thinking about it too, if not to try and figure out a place where both of those things could happen at the same time. It was very obvious that Pete liked Steph, and maybe it was the other way around too. He knew that he was certainly warming up to her, she was really nice when she wasn't hanging around the other cool kids...
"So, somewhere high up, where we could still see the docks, but maybe far enough that we can't hear them so well?"
"Exactly!"
"You're really thoughtful, you know that? That's real sweet..." He smiled over at Pete, who rubbed the back of his hand and smiled back. "We can probably make that work, though, in any case."
They bounced ideas off each other for a while, crossing off places because they were too far away or the view wasn't good enough. Eventually, Pete realised something that he should've realised a long time ago. "I don't know what I've been thinking, I literally live in an apartment block about a quarter mile from the docks."
"Your brother would let us use his apartment?"
"I mean, maybe not? But we could go sit on the roof. I've got a speaker, we could make a little show of it!"
"I like it! I can bring blankets, if you want!" Ruth offered eagerly. Her backpack was too large at the best of times, there was definitely a chance that she could squeeze a blanket in there if she wanted.
"Blankets, huh?" Pete raised an eyebrow, but he was still smiling. "And Richie, you live close enough to the store... Could you do us a snack run on your way?"
"Sure!"
So, it was decided. As soon as Pete got home, he called Steph and updated her on everything the three of them had laid out in the course of their journey home. She had to pretend to be totally chill about it, but on the inside, her heart was doing somersalts. She couldn't believe that Pete would consider doing something like that just so she could hang out with them too.
"You really don't have to, y'know," she'd insisted, but Pete was having none of it.
"I know, but we all want you here, and besides, it might be fun!" he'd answered, and she'd felt a little warmer at that.
The weekend rolled around. Ruth arrived at Pete's first, and he had completely lost track of the days, fully unaware that the fireworks display was tonight.
"Pete... door." Ted's knock on his bedroom door came hard as usual, and yet Pete was still startled by it every time he did it. This time was no exception.
"Huh?"
"One of your friends, the one with the braces. She said somethin' about fireworks?"
"Oh shit. That's today?"
"Y'mean the one own the docks? Didn't know you were going..."
"I'm... Not. Not really. Long story." Pete rushed out of his room and towards the front door, where Ruth was indeed waiting, just inside. So, Ted did have the liberty to let her in, then... To him, it didn't look like she'd brought the blankets as she'd said, and he considered the version of this where the two of them dragged his off his bed and up the stairs to the roof. "Uh, where's the-"
Ruth took off her backpack and unzipped the main compartment. Inside, rolled to an incredibly neat size and packed close together were not one but two blankets. Pete's eyes widened involuntarily.
"Jesus Christ, how did you do that?"
"Took everything else outta my bag and let my mom help me roll them. She's real good at stuff like that."
"They're perfect. Thanks so much! We can wait around in my room till everyone else shows up."
Ruth was first through the door. On his way in, Pete leaned out towards the kitchen and shouted, "Are you going to the fireworks?"
"Some guy at work invited us, yeah... We might be out a while, I think he's looking to get his drink on." Ted answered. "Why's yours a long story?"
"We're gonna watch them from here? On the roof."
He could almost literally hear Ted thinking that one over. It almost took him way too long to figure out that they could actually do that and make it work, too.
Just then, there was another knock at the door. Pete scrambled to get it this time, because if Ted opened the door to Steph, he'd probably refuse to believe she was even standing there waiting for Pete. As it happened, it was her. Ted was clearly in the background, trying not to make himself look like he was startled at who he saw when Pete opened the door. If he wasn't startled then, he certainly was when Pete pulled the girl into a hug that she returned.
"I still can't believe you've put this together for me," Steph couldn't help the grin spread on her face. As she and Pete parted, she glanced over his shoulder and saw his brother staring. She subtly motioned this to Pete, who turned around quickly and flushed bright red.
"Jesus CHRIST, TED!"
Ted just laughed. Mainly, that was an attempt at staving off the fact that his nerdy little brother just hugged a girl who looked that cool. God damn, were they- had Pete really scored himself a girlfriend without telling?
Pete showed Steph to his room. "Richie text a few minutes ago. He's gonna be a bit late, but we're still gonna be able to catch the fireworks. I told him half an hour earlier than I should've... He's always running late."
Steph chuckled, considering taking a seat on Pete's bedroom floor. He'd taken the office chair, and Ruth had one corner of his bed. He motioned towards the bed, clearly seeing what she was about to do, and she took a seat on the end. While the three of them were chatting, idly winding away the time, he stood up on the chair and pulled what looked like an old radio from a cardboard box on top of his shelves.
"That's your speaker?" Ruth asked in awe. "That's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen!"
"It was an arcade prize years ago... Couple thousand tickets at Pizza Pete's, y'know how it is." He set the thing on the desk and turned it on to see if it still worked. It crackled, seemingly uncertainly, and then a light appeared on the top beside the buttons. He smiled. "God, it really won't give in, will it?"
Richie arrived within ten minutes, his bag overflowing with various snacks. That's why they'd assigned him to the snack run, he always knew how to pack the best ones... The three of them met him in the hallway, carting their various items. Ruth and Steph each had a blanket bundled under their arms, and Pete had his speaker, having made sure it was at least a little bit charged before they went. He absently yelled a goodbye towards Ted, and then led the way up the staircase towards the roof.
"He's a strange one, your brother, isn't he?" Steph commented, shooting a look towards the door as they walked away.
"I never told him I was seeing you, I think we gave him the shock of a lifetime." Pete laughed.
"You didn't tell him?"
"I haven't had the chance yet, he's been busy! Well, he definitely knows now, and if he's not too hungover tomorrow, I'm definitely gonna get asked about it."
"I still can't believe you two are official!" Ruth sighed wistfully. "Like, that's so cool!"
Neither could he. This was the best thing to ever happen to him, and he felt luckier every day to be by her side. cos she was a friend too, it was always more than a date to him. She was someone to laugh to, someone to share obscenely large buckets of popcorn with during shitty movies, someone to text at stupid hours because he was drunk and lovesick.
Well, not drunk. It was one night... And he'd only drank in the first place because he'd met people on a day out looking at colleges and they'd suggested getting to know each other over drinks. But he did end up texting her, regardless of how it was he'd ended up like that.
"You wouldn't think it was cool if I was drunk texting you at 2:30 in the morning." He muttered.
"You didn't..."
"He did. Bunch of nerds from Michigan let him come drinking with them, then he got to the hotel room and I got... it all." Steph managed a laugh. She still had the texts, though she didn't think Pete knew that. They were sweet to her, and he'd been so sincere in every word he'd written.
"You didn't get the hangover the next morning..." He defended as he pushed open the door to the roof and led the group outside.
The roof wasn't really a huge space, not compared to the inside. There was a little square of concrete that Steph presumed only covered the central staircase. In fact, the rest of the roof was just below them, but it was a fair jump down, and she didn't suspect there'd be a way back up that wasn't through someone's window. But, they really could make do with this.
She and Ruth set out the blankets, and the four of them took a seat in a direction that roughly faced the docks. She could see the lake from here, so they were definitely looking in the right direction. Really, this was a nice spot, and really was everything Pete had detailed to her on the phone. She wished she wasn't already grinning like an idiot so she could really show her appreciation for him.
He worked on connecting the speaker, and the first firework shot into the sky, exploding in a flash of red light. It wasn't long before music filled the space between the four of them, and she realised that she could barely hear the fireworks at all. "This is... It's perfect." She leaned back, letting her hands plunge into the soft fibres of the blanket underneath her. Pete grinned, reaching out for her hand.
"Glad we could help," Richie hummed, digging into his backpack for a little bag of popcorn. "He did mean it, y'know, we want you to hang out as much as possible. Not just cos it makes us look cooler-"
She laughed. "But you think it does?"
"Oh, without a doubt. You're the coolest part of any of this."
I don't know why i'm here for advice, i guess your blog and your words always give me comfort. I think i'm in the process of breaking up with someone i love (a lot of really compicated circumstances are in play) and i guess i just want advice on loss of idk, feeling loved, and talking with someone you love everyday until one day you don't. I can't stip thinking about how much i can't cope with that, i don't know how to do this
Oh my goodness, I am sending you SO much love and hugs right now and I hope you have people in your life who can offer the same. <33
I recently (idk I guess not THAT recently but I feel like time is meaningless since the pandemic and it FEELS recent) went through a really traumatic breakup. In hindsight, it was SO much for the best and I should have ended it MUCH earlier, but in the moment it was literally one day I saw him and we were making plans for the upcoming week, and then two days later he basically ghosted after dating for a year. There's a lot more to the story I'm not getting into, but I just say that to say I VERY much understand that grief that comes from one minute having that special person in your life you share everything with and then suddenly they're not there and all your emotions are a jumbled up mess.
But here are some of the things that helped me. Some of these may feel trite and cliche but they're trite and cliche for a reason, and that's because they work. (Gonna put this under a cut just because it's getting long already.)
I wrote. A lot. I did the exercise of writing down all my ugly thoughts I didn't want to admit on a piece of paper while blasting angsty breakup music and then burnt it. I also kept a journal that I wrote in every night until one day I just didn't need to anymore, with things I wanted to say to him. That really helped to deal with the "I'm so used to talking to him every day and now I'm not" transition.
I leaned on friends. I'm someone who generally prefers to keep personal stuff really close to my chest and doesn't like to to admit when I need help, so I often felt really reluctant? Apologetic? To go to friends and just be like "I'm devastated and I don't understand how to process what just happened." And honestly most of my friends I STILL didn't go too much into detail with. But I had one in particular who I would just regularly spam with the different versions of the same message and she listened and loved every single time. If you have someone like that in your life, embrace it, and remember they love you and want to be there for you. You are not annoying, you should not be "over it" already.
On that note, be gentle with yourself. This is a big life change. It's going to suck. It's going to hurt. The grief will come in waves. There will be some days you feel totally fine, and then the next day you may be back to sobbing in your shower. You're not backsliding just because each day isn't necessarily easier than the last. This is not a linear process.
You'll probably think about them obsessively. You'll wake up thinking about them and won't stop for the rest of the day. You'll feel the absence. I couldn't even sit on my couch because I'd think about "oh that's HIS spot." This will fade, I promise you. It'll be slow and you won't even realize it's happening, but it will happen.
This may be controversial, but I unfollowed him on all social. I know myself, I know I would have been checking up on him regularly and it would have hurt my healing.
Also controversial: I think it's okay to imagine a world that might have been. I know some people advocate more for a clean break, past is the past, don't dwell on it, etc., but I just couldn't do that. I spent a lot of time wondering if we'd still be together if XYZ had or hadn't happened, if we might still get back together in the future, what I would say to him if I saw him again. For me personally, I just really struggled with the finality of a breakup, that feelings could be just switched on/off like that. I needed a little bit of hope, no matter how small, to keep me from drowning. I know you said there were a lot of complicated circumstances at play, so I want to say if you find yourself going "oh but what if those circumstances weren't here, would we be together, could we be happy again?" feel free to indulge that. I know some people may say that's not healthy, but I think humans are just very fragile things and sometimes we need to tell ourselves stories to protect ourselves. As long as you stay grounded in remembering that, yes, right now those circumstances DO exist so we can't be together right now, I think it's okay. (And like I alluded to earlier, in hindsight, it's SO clear now my breakup had to happen. I imagine in time, once the initial grief wears off, you'll recognize that as well. But if in the meantime you need to imagine a happier future just to soothe the hurt a bit, do it. Don't feel pressured to make this experience hurt even more because it's the "right" way to handle a breakup.)
Indulge yourself. Watch your comfort shows, eat your favorite foods, revisit you favorite things. If there is literally anything that will bring you joy, no matter how silly, embrace it. I watched a lot of Crazy Ex Girlfriend because it dealt with a lot of the emotions I was feeling and made me feel like I was not alone.
Remember to eat and hydrate. As tempting as it may be, avoid drinking away your feelings.
Actually just remembered this -- try to get in a good routine. The most structure I had in my life was right after this breakup and I think it really helped because I was so focused on "the next thing" that I was less likely to fall into fits of wallowing. Even if it's something as simple as "wake up, work out, go to school/work, come home, scroll tumblr for 20 mins, make dinner, watch an episode of a TV show, talk to friend, go to sleep," it did REALLY help me.
I read this book every time I'm struggling or going through a period of grief. The writer is very anti- toxic positivity and has a really wonderful way of discussing all the complex emotions that come with all kinds of grief and being able to find ways to laugh even when you are drowning in darkness.
Recognize you may always carry love for this person in your heart, and remember that just because you do, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the person you should be spending the rest of your life with. You can still cherish all those memories you have together and want what's best for them, even wish that maybe it had worked out for you, and still recognize it's best to part ways.
And recognize all of your emotions -- the good, the bad, the ugly. They're all valid. Don't try to stifle any of them because you "shouldn't feel this way." You DO feel that way and that's okay!!! This is a big change and it's a vulnerable place to be in. Breakups SUCK. Breakups when you still love the person suck even more!!! There is truly no getting around that. Deal with the emotions as they come. BUT, if you sense that maybe you've gone too far, and you are drowning, please reach out, to a friend, to a family member, even to me again if you want. It can be really easy to lose yourself in grief and sometimes you just need someone to give you a bit of a jolt to pull you out of it.
Nonny, I am SO proud of you!! This is a HARD thing you are doing. It takes SO much strength and self-awareness to recognize that even though you love a person, you need to split up. I wasn't capable of doing that and I wish I was, so I'm truly just so impressed with you. PLUS the fact you're already thinking of ways to heal?? Do you know how amazing that is? To quote my favorite Winnie the Pooh, "you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think."
You've got this, my love. I don't know if there's anything in this novel that's helpful, but I do hope you at least can take away the fact there is at least one person in your corner who believes in you and who will be here with virtual hugs and a hot cup of cocoa whenever you need it. 💕
Hi darling! Love your answers to the ao3 asks! May I ask for 27 and one of your choice, or if none are interesting, is there something else you'd like to say?
Ha en trävlig kväld!
Hej @darktwistedgenderplural! Tack snälla, vad glad jag blir! :)
27. What do you listen to while writing?
To be honest, I don't listen to anything! I can't listen to anything with lyrics, because I get distracted. I'm quite verbally oriented in general, so even if the song is in a language different from what I'm writing, I still start to listen. I have also tried instrumental music, but it's hard to find anything with a suitable mood, and if it's something familiar, I get distracted again. And on the other hand, if I manage to get in the zone, I don't hear the music any more than I hear the TV or any other noises from the next room haha. So I just don't listen to anything.
Extra question:
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
I picked this one because it's a really, really hard question for me. I'm never fully happy with anything I write - even when it comes to my magnum opus, I'd say I'm only 85% happy! I am still 100% proud of that one, but the level of pride I take in my other works is always in flux. I can be super proud of something when I post it and still get so caught up on an error later on that I feel ashamed of the whole thing. On some occasions, I can also be a bit apologetic to begin with but grow prouder later on, and my feelings can change several times.
When it comes to my fics from 2023, I guess I'm pretty proud of The real deal. Not as proud as I would be if I'd been able to write more consistently, but the writing is still good and I think the story itself is compelling. While it is technically AU now since it's part of my S1-compliant series, I do think it shows that I've done a lot of research and tried to keep it as close to canon as possible (e.g. when it comes to the social dynamics of Hillerska). So in general, it's a good fic and I'm pretty proud of it.
Although TRD did already start in 2022, so out of the fics strictly written in 2023, it's definitely Last chance. It's not a complex or ambitious fic by any means, but it shows that it was a joy to write, and people got warm and fuzzy feelings from it which always makes me happy to know.
So yeah, like I said, this is a really hard question for me!
Tack så hemskt mycket för frågorna och trevlig kväll till dig också! 💜
Scripts - S7 - Episode 19 (Part 1 of 2)
Doing something a little different today because the dialogue on the daybeds is sorted weird. I've got the standard dialogue here, but the Daybeds & Breakfast scenes have been split by LI. Give me a bit of time and i'll post the routes individually. Thank you @longbobmckenzie as always for pulling them out!
NARRATOR: Welcome back to Love Island!
NARRATOR: {0} just received some beautiful flowers from one of her admirers!
NARRATOR: But which admirer? And what will their night hold?
NARRATOR: Let’s find out right now!
You and the girls have gathered in the dressing room to get ready for bed.
UMA_HAPPY: {0}, you can’t leave us hanging any longer!
SUMMER_FLIRTY: We need to know, right this second.
DAPHNE_FLIRTY: We need to know, right this second.
PLAYER_SURPRISED: What do you mean?
UMA_HAPPY: About the beautiful surprise flowers that were left on your bed?
UMA_HAPPY: Who were they from?!
{0}_IDLE: Yeah, I think we’re all interested to know.
Vicky and Bonnie both look equally suspicious.
BONNIE_HAPPY: It was so adorable.
VICKY_HAPPY: A classy move.
PLAYER_HAPPY: I have a feeling it was {0}.
VICKY_EMBARRASSED: Guilty! It was me.
VICKY_HAPPY: Thought you deserved a nice surprise.
VICKY_HAPPY: Picked them myself!
PLAYER_HAPPY: Aww, thanks Vicky!
Vicky leans in and whispers to you.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I thought we could have a night under the stars?
VICKY_HAPPY: We can head out to the daybeds together later?
PLAYER_HAPPY: Sounds romantic!
BONNIE_EMBARRASSED: Guilty! It was me.
BONNIE_HAPPY: Thought you deserved a nice surprise.
BONNIE_HAPPY: Picked them myself!
PLAYER_HAPPY: Aww, thanks Bonnie!
Bonnie leans in and whispers to you.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: I thought we could have a night under the stars?
BONNIE_HAPPY: We can head out to the daybeds together later?
PLAYER_HAPPY: Sounds romantic!
UMA_HAPPY: I knew it was {0}!
PLAYER_SURPRISED: How?!
UMA_FLIRTY: May have seen him snooping around in the garden earlier…
UMA_HAPPY: Heard him talking about a romantic night under the stars too.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Like on the daybeds?
UMA_HAPPY: That would be my guess! I know where I’d be going.
UMA_FLIRTY: Sounds like you two are gonna have fun tonight!
PLAYER_HAPPY: Yeah, I guess it does.
{0} doesn’t look very happy with you.
{0}_ANGRY: Great, so you’re stealing my man away, again?
Be apologetic
PLAYER_EMBARRASSED: Sorry, {0} I know it sucks for you.
PLAYER_IDLE: I can’t stop him from giving me flowers!
PLAYER_IDLE: There’s still a connection between us.
{0}_SERIOUS: Yeah, whatever. I don’t love the situation.
{0}_SERIOUS: But at least you’re not gloating about it.
Get sassy
PLAYER_HAPPY: That’s weird.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I didn’t realise {0} was a <i>thing</i> that I could steal.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Kind of possessive of you, {0}.
{0}_EMBARRASSED: Well that’s obviously not what I meant.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Besides, it’s not stealing when he comes willingly.
UMA_IDLE: Ouch.
{0} shoots you some serious side eye.
Brush her off
PLAYER_IDLE: Yeah we’re spending the night together.
PLAYER_IDLE: I really don’t see the big deal?
{0}_SERIOUS: We were together first.
PLAYER_IDLE: It is what it is.
{0} pouts at you.
Vicky catches your eye with a flirty wink and smile!
VICKY_FLIRTY: I don’t think anyone needs to be told how much I’m looking forward to it.
BONNIE_SAD: You could consider how other people feel about it…
VICKY_IDLE: I’m not good at pretending, sorry!
Bonnie catches your eye and gives you a shy smile.
BONNIE_HAPPY: It’s going to be a special evening for sure.
VICKY_EMBARRASSED: Have fun, I guess.
UMA_HAPPY: Well, sounds like you’ve got a big night ahead of you!
UMA_HAPPY: Are you excited to spend it with {0}?
Cannot wait
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I literally cannot wait.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I want to make it a night to remember.
{0} scoffs.
{0}_SAD: You don’t have to rub it in.
Vicky bites her lip as she looks over to you.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Going to be a night to remember.
Bonnie struggles to hide an envious look.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: It’s going to be a night to remember.
Vicky struggles to hide an envious look.
UMA_FLIRTY: Sounds like you might not be getting much sleep!
UMA_FLIRTY: Get it, girl!
Keeping my expectations in check
PLAYER_IDLE: I’m keeping my expectations in check.
PLAYER_IDLE: We’ll see where the night takes us both.
UMA_IDLE: You should just enjoy it.
{0}_IDLE: Guess you’ll need to get ready then, {1}.
UMA_FLIRTY: For sure. We’ll help you pick out some sexy pjs!
PLAYER_HAPPY: Let me take a look!
VICKY_FLIRTY: {0}, you are slaying in that!
UMA_FLIRTY: You’re giving me outfit inspo!
BONNIE_FLIRTY: {0}, you look amazing!
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I feel good!
PLAYER_IDLE: I’m ready for bed.
UMA_SURPRISED: Are you sure?
UMA_IDLE: I think there might be some more options for you to check out.
Uma leans in and whispers in your ear.
UMA_HAPPY: It’s a big night for you and {0} after all.
I’ll have another look
VICKY_FLIRTY: {0}, you are slaying in that!
UMA_FLIRTY: You’re giving me outfit inspo!
BONNIE_FLIRTY: {0} you look amazing!
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I feel good!
PLAYER_IDLE: I’m good wearing this.
UMA_HAPPY: Ok, you do you!
UMA_HAPPY: Let’s go!
I’m all good
PLAYER_IDLE: I’m good wearing this.
UMA_HAPPY: Ok, you do you!
UMA_HAPPY: Let’s go!
PLAYER_HAPPY: Have a good night, girls!
PLAYER_HAPPY: You coming, {0}? The daybeds are calling.
{0}_FLIRTY: Right behind you.
PLAYER_IDLE: I’ll see you girls in a bit.
UMA_HAPPY: Have fun!
OG Boy Route
Bonnie Route
Vicky Route
Travis Route
Evan Route
As you both finish your breakfast, you hear a familiar sound.
A phone pings.
{0}_SURPRISED: Was that your phone?
PLAYER_SURPRISED: Yes. I’ve got a text!
Everyone rushes out to the daybeds.
{0} clocks you and {1} snuggled on the daybeds.
{0}_SURPRISED: Morning everyone!
{0}_ANGRY: Looks like these two lovebirds had a nice evening.
Bonnie and Vicky overhear and glance over to see what’s going on.
They also seem a bit gutted to see you and {0} together.
Travis overhears and glances over to see what’s going on.
He also seems a bit gutted to see you and {0} together.
Vicky and {0} clock you and Bonnie snuggled on the daybeds.
They seem a bit gutted to see you two together.
BONNIE_EMBARRASSED: Good morning…
Bonnie and {0} clock you and Vicky snuggled on the daybeds.
They seem a bit gutted to see you two together.
VICKY_SURPRISED: Morning everyone!
{0} clocks you and Travis snuggled on the daybeds. He looks pretty gutted.
TRAVIS_IDLE: Morning guys!
{0} and Travis clock you and Evan snuggled on the daybeds. He looks pretty gutted.
EVAN_HAPPY: Beautiful morning right?
UMA_SURPRISED: Enough of the dramatic staring. We wanna hear the text!
You read it out for everyone.
LITEXT: Islanders, it’s time to play Snog, Marry, Pie! {0}ChoicesChoices {1}PiebackTime
Bring it on!
PLAYER_HAPPY: I say bring on the snogs, marriages and pies!
{0}_SURPRISED: Wow, surprised you’re so confident.
PLAYER_HAPPY: You shouldn’t be. I’m ready for this one!
{0}_HAPPY: Let’s get to the challenge stage.
UMA_HAPPY: Pies! Pies! Pies!
I’m not ready for this
PLAYER_IDLE: Oh dear, I’m not sure I’m ready for these decisions.
{0}_SURPRISED: I don’t think you are…
{0}_SURPRISED: We’re going to have to find out sooner or later.
UMA_HAPPY: Let’s get to the challenge stage then.
I’m sure no one will pie me
PLAYER_HAPPY: I’m not worried, don’t see why anyone would want to pie me.
{0}_HAPPY: Who would?!
{0}_SURPRISED: That’s some seriously misplaced confidence, {1}.
PLAYER_HAPPY: I guess we’ll have to see.
I know who I’m pieing
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I already know who’s getting pied.
{0}_SURPRISED: Who?!
PLAYER_FLIRTY: You’ll have to wait and see.
UMA_FLIRTY: Pies! Pies! Pies!
UMA_HAPPY: I hope you all are ready for this. I know I am.
{0}_FLIRTY: I’ve already got someone in mind for pieing.
ALEX_SURPRISED: It’s about to get real.
JOYO_HAPPY: Yep. Things are about to get messy.
BRYSON_HAPPY: Yeah they are!
RAFAEL_HAPPY: Bring it on!
VICKY_HAPPY: It’s nice going in knowing no one would want to pie you!
BONNIE_SURPRISED: I hope the pies are vegan.
TRAVIS_HAPPY: Yes, lads! Let’s do this!
SUMMER_EMBARRASSED: Oh my days. My hair does not react well to cream!
DAPHNE_EMBARRASSED: Oh my days. My hair doesn’t react well to cream.
{0}_HAPPY: Let’s get going!
You all rush to the dressing room to quickly get changed before you make your way to the challenge stage.
You join the others on the challenge stage where everyone looks raring to go.
Your phone buzzes in your hand.
PLAYER_SURPRISED: I’ve got a text!
UMA_SURPRISED: Read it out, {0}.
LITEXT: Islanders, you must now take it in turns to decide who you want to snog, marry, and pie. {0}MarriageMaterial {1}ToPieOrNotToPie
PLAYER_HAPPY: So who’s going first?
Uma steps up for her go.
UMA_FLIRTY: I’ve been waiting for this chance. I’ll go first!
UMA_FLIRTY: I’m going to snog…
Uma looks around, before shooting {0} a mischievous look.
Before finally, locking eyes with Travis.
Uma strides over to Travis and snogs him.
TRAVIS_HAPPY: That was a surprise!
She looks {0} right in the eye before moving on.
{0}_SERIOUS: I see how it is.
UMA_FLIRTY: And then I’m going to marry…
Uma looks at you with a warm smile.
UMA_HAPPY: {0}, for being such a good friend!
Uma comes over and throws her arms around your neck.
Hug her back
PLAYER_HAPPY: Awww, you’re cute, Uma.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Happy wedding day to us!
You give her a big squeeze back.
UMA_HAPPY: This was a good decision.
Call her out for snogging Travis
PLAYER_SERIOUS: What was up with you snogging Travis?
UMA_IDLE: It’s just a game, I can pick who I want.
PLAYER_SERIOUS: It was a bit harsh on {0}.
PLAYER_SERIOUS: Also, me and Travis literally just spent the night together.
Uma shrugs.
UMA_HAPPY: It’s just a bit of fun! Doesn’t mean anything.
Dodge the hug
You dodge away from her to avoid the hug.
UMA_SERIOUS: Ok, ouch!
PLAYER_IDLE: I don’t think I’m ready for marriage just yet.
UMA_SERIOUS: It’s only hypothetical, but suit yourself.
Uma steps back.
UMA_FLIRTY: And for the pie. There’s really only one choice.
Uma picks up one of the pies from the table, and strides towards {0}.
She shoves the pie right in his face to a collective gasp from everyone else.
PLAYER_SURPRISED: You really got him there, Uma.
UMA_FLIRTY: That’s for the snaky antics I found out about on Movie Night.
{0}_EMBARRASSED: That’s a bit harsh…
UMA_HAPPY: It’s just a pie! You’ll get over it.
BONNIE_HAPPY: Settle down you two, there’s still some pies left in the oven.
BONNIE_HAPPY: It’s my time to shine.
She looks round at everyone, studying their faces.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: I’m gonna snog… Vicky.
She runs over to Vicky and the two share a brief snog.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Could’ve seen that one coming.
PLAYER_SURPRISED: Things really do move fast in the villa.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: Don’t worry, {0}. I’ve got something special planned for you.
BONNIE_HAPPY: As for marriage, there’s only one choice for me.
Bonnie looks right at you.
BONNIE_HAPPY: Copying Uma but I don’t care.
BONNIE_HAPPY: You are marriage material, {0}, and such a good friend.
She drops down on one knee and gives you a big smile.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Two weddings in one day.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: Uma was right, you are marriage material, {0}.
She drops to one knee and peers into your eyes longingly with a gentle smile.
Vicky side eyes Bonnie.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: There’s no one I’d rather get down on one knee for.
Our wedding night would be fun
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I’m definitely looking forward to our wedding night, Bonnie.
VICKY_SURPRISED: Wow, ok then.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: Not the exchanging of our sacred vows, then?
PLAYER_FLIRTY: That too.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: Just kidding, our wedding night would be pure fireworks.
You’d absolutely get jilted by me
PLAYER_SERIOUS: I’d probably jilt you on the wedding day. No offence.
BONNIE_EMBARRASSED: Message received I guess.
This is all a bit fast
PLAYER_IDLE: Wow, this is all happening so fast.
PLAYER_IDLE: I’m not sure if I’m ready.
BONNIE_FLIRTY: It’s just a bit of fun, don't worry.
Bonnie picks up the pie with a grin and looks around the remaining Islanders.
BONNIE_SERIOUS: And no prizes for guessing who I’m gonna pie.
Bonnie flings her pie into {0}’s unsuspecting face.
{0}_EMBARRASSED: Wait? What <i>was</i> that for?
BONNIE_HAPPY: Movie Night, obviously. Saying Uma was hotter than me!
{0} wipes some of the pie off his face and slowly nods.
{0}_EMBARRASSED: Oh yeah. Guess I deserved that one to be fair.
Bonnie looks triumphant as all the others burst out laughing.
Summer is up on the stage before Bonnie has even got back in line.
SUMMER_FLIRTY: It’s me now!
PLAYER_HAPPY: Who are you going to pick, Summer?
SUMMER_FLIRTY: Well for a snog…
Everyone looks to Joyo as Summer struts towards him.
JOYO_FLIRTY: Hello, gorgeous.
At the last second Summer swivels on her heels and leans in to Travis, giving him a short but enticing snog.
TRAVIS_EMBARRASSED: Seems it’s my lucky day.
SUMMER_FLIRTY: Would be rude not to.
Summer winks at Joyo.
SUMMER_FLIRTY: It’s just for the lols everyone, don’t worry.
TRAVIS_FLIRTY: I’m happy to get kissed for a laugh anytime.
Kick off
PLAYER_ANGRY: Erm, did you forget he’s coupled up with me?
SUMMER_FLIRTY: Just a bit of fun, {0}.
TRAVIS_EMBARRASSED: Yeah, doesn’t mean anything. Just a laugh.
PLAYER_SERIOUS: Hmmm.
Laugh it off
PLAYER_HAPPY: Good work, guys.
JOYO_SERIOUS: Hmm.
SUMMER_FLIRTY: Don’t worry babes, because I’m marrying you.
She runs over to Joyo and jumps up on him. He catches her and spins her round.
JOYO_FLIRTY: I suppose it’s all good.
PLAYER_HAPPY: What about the pie?
Summer looks straight at you with a mischievous look in her eye.
PLAYER_IDLE: What’s that look for?
Summer barrels over to you and presses the pie into your face.
SUMMER_HAPPY: For all the drama in Casa Amor.
SUMMER_HAPPY: Sorry, not sorry.
Take it on the chin
PLAYER_HAPPY: I guess I did deserve that one.
SUMMER_HAPPY: I’m glad you can be accepting.
You taste some of the pie.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Mmm, it’s actually really good!
Throw a strop
PLAYER_EMBARRASSED: Not cool, Summer.
You cross your arms and pout.
SUMMER_HAPPY: Oh come on, {0}. It’s just a game.
SUMMER_HAPPY: And I needed to get my own back for all the drama.
PLAYER_SERIOUS: What drama?!
SUMMER_HAPPY: I dunno.
Wipe some pie on her
PLAYER_HAPPY: Summer, your face looks a bit clean right now.
SUMMER_SURPRISED: Oh no!
You fling some of the excess pie at Summer who fails to dodge it.
You both lean on each other laughing.
SUMMER_HAPPY: Right, your turn, Joyo!
Joyo gets up to the stage with a cocky grin.
JOYO_FLIRTY: For the snog, I have to go with Summer.
Joyo leans into Summer and the two share a long, intimate snog.
BONNIE_IDLE: Alright, we get the idea you two.
They reluctantly pull away.
JOYO_FLIRTY: And for my marry... I’m gonna say Summer again.
He drops down to one knee as Summer blushes.
SUMMER_FLIRTY: Aww. So cute, I almost feel bad now.
JOYO_FLIRTY: And for my pie...
Joyo picks up a pie with a cheeky glint in his eye.
JOYO_FLIRTY: Remember when you almost got your head turned by Travis, Summer?
Summer shakes her head.
SUMMER_EMBARRASSED: Nope. You must be getting me mixed up with someone else.
JOYO_HAPPY: Well, I haven’t forgotten unfortunately.
He gently presses the pie into Summer’s face as she squirms.
SUMMER_SURPRISED: Seriously, Joyo!
JOYO_HAPPY: No regrets.
Summer starts laughing and kisses Joyo.
DAPHNE_FLIRTY: My turn.
Daphne waltzes up to the stage to take her turn.
Before anyone has a chance to react, she walks straight up to Evan and snogs him.
EVAN_HAPPY: Out of nowhere. Wow.
DAPHNE_HAPPY: That’s for always cooking little bits for us in the kitchen.
DAPHNE_HAPPY: And for not being bad on the eye either.
Kick off
PLAYER_ANGRY: Erm, did you forget about us just sharing the daybeds last night?
DAPHNE_FLIRTY: Just a bit of fun, {0}.
EVAN_EMBARRASSED: Yeah, doesn’t mean anything. Just a laugh.
PLAYER_SERIOUS: Hmm.
Laugh it off
PLAYER_HAPPY: Good work, guys.
UMA_HAPPY: Who are you marrying, Daph?
DAPHNE_HAPPY: Well, hopefully this is a little less of a shock to you all.
Daphne bounces over to Rafael where she drops to one knee and presents him with the prop ring.
DAPHNE_FLIRTY: This is for being a total gent and spooning me to sleep every night.
RAFAEL_HAPPY: I do!
Daphne stands and gives Rafael a peck on the lips.
{0}_HAPPY: Aww, you two are sweet.
DAPHNE_FLIRTY: Now for my pie.
Without breaking eye contact, Daphne grabs a pie and shoves it right in Uma’s face.
UMA_ANGRY: Daphne?! Why?
DAPHNE_IDLE: For saying you fancied Raf!
DAPHNE_FLIRTY: And that’ll be all.
UMA_HAPPY: Urgh, fine!
Daphne falls back in line as Uma wipes the pie out from her eyes.
PLAYER_HAPPY: She’s defo straight to the point.
{0}_FLIRTY: My turn.
{0} catches your eye as she makes her way to the stage.
The vibe is suddenly very tense as everyone glances between you and {0}.
{0}_FLIRTY: Let’s get this show on the road, shall we?
PLAYER_SERIOUS: I guess so.
{0}_FLIRTY: For my snog...
{0} struts over to {1} and pulls him in for a passionate snog.
{0} turns it into a peck, {1} clearly wanted more.
She turns with her hands still running through his hair and looks you straight in the eye.
When she’s finished, {0} looks at you with a red face.
{0}_FLIRTY: That’s for being the hottest, funniest guy here.
{0}_HAPPY: Debatable, but we move on.
{0}_FLIRTY: And I think I’ll be marrying…
{0}_FLIRTY: {1} too.
Don’t react
You make sure to give {0} no reaction as she drops down to one knee in front of {1}.
Dig her out
PLAYER_ANGRY: That’s an embarrassing move for you, {0}.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Especially considering where he slept last night…
{0} looks away sheepishly as {1} fumes.
PLAYER_IDLE: Why don’t we move on?
{0}_ANGRY: Grow up, {1}.
Flirt with {0}
You look straight past {0} and bite your lip at {1}.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I hope you rethink that proposal, {0}.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Because we still have unfinished business together.
{0} rolls her eyes.
PLAYER_EMBARRASSED: Oh, sorry, {0}. I shouldn’t have interrupted like that.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: I just can’t stop thinking about last night with {0}…
{0}_FLIRTY: It was fun.
{0}_ANGRY: Can you please not, {1}?
{0}_SERIOUS: That leads me on very nicely to the pieing.
{0} storms over to the pies, and looks over them all with a careful eye.
{0}_SERIOUS: Just trying to find the biggest one.
She struts over to you, pie in hand.
Face the music
PLAYER_HAPPY: Bring it on, {0}. I can take it.
You boldly look her in the eye as she brings the pie into your face.
{0}_IDLE: That was satisfying.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Enjoy it while you can.
{0}_FLIRTY: I will.
Dodge out of the way
You skillfully duck under the incoming pie which falls out of {0}’s hands and lands on the floor.
{0}_ANGRY: Um, that’s not how you play the game.
PLAYER_IDLE: Well, it’s how I play the game.
{0}_SERIOUS: Sore loser, whatever.
{0}_IDLE: Right, I think it’s time for the next person.
Vicky takes a confident step forward.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I’ve been waiting for my moment.
VICKY_FLIRTY: For my snog... I’m gonna go for a little bit of bombshell solidarity.
VICKY_FLIRTY: So, I’m snogging Travis.
TRAVIS_FLIRTY: I’m not complaining.
They share a friendly peck.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I’m gonna marry someone super special.
Vicky turns towards you and drops to one knee.
Bonnie glances at Vicky, a sense of disappointment on her face.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Another marriage?
VICKY_FLIRTY: How could I not ask for your hand in marriage?
VICKY_FLIRTY: You’re obvs a ten out of ten to look at and…
VICKY_HAPPY: You’re a ten out of ten to spend time with. You’re a total gem, {0}.
I do!
PLAYER_HAPPY: It’s a yes from me. Let’s tie the knot already.
VICKY_HAPPY: I’ll get the dresses, you find the chapel.
BONNIE_SAD: I guess last night didn’t mean that much.
PLAYER_IDLE: We’re just joking around, Bonnie.
Platonic pat on the back
You give Vicky a friendly pat on the back.
PLAYER_HAPPY: You’re sweet for choosing me.
VICKY_FLIRTY: I don’t normally get down on one knee after knowing someone for a few days.
VICKY_FLIRTY: You should be honoured.
PLAYER_HAPPY: I’m very honoured. Thank you.
VICKY_HAPPY: You’ve been a great friend to me so far.
VICKY_HAPPY: Just wanted you to know I appreciated it.
I’m not the marriage type
PLAYER_IDLE: I’m not really the marriage type. Sorry.
VICKY_EMBARRASSED: At least I didn’t buy this ring.
Vicky giggles as she gets back to her feet.
VICKY_IDLE: And now for my pie.
She looks around everyone suspiciously.
VICKY_FLIRTY: Who deserves the pie?
Evan jokingly points to Travis.
EVAN_HAPPY: Defo has to be Travis, right? Who else?
TRAVIS_HAPPY: I haven’t done anything. Why me?
Vicky takes a step towards the two boys, pie in hand.
VICKY_HAPPY: And just for saying that, Evan, it’s pie time.
Vicky thrusts the pie in Evan’s face before giving Travis a high five.
VICKY_HAPPY: As I said earlier, bombshell solidarity.
EVAN_HAPPY: Alright, alright. I’ll take it.
As Vicky steps back down, {0} steps up, ready for his turn.
{0}_FLIRTY: Alright, enough playing. It’s my turn.
{0}_FLIRTY: Who to snog?
{0} eyes {1} with a flirty stare.
{0}_FLIRTY: I’m gonna snog this person because… Well, why not?
{0} strides towards Bonnie.
He leans in for a short but sweet snog.
He leans in for a quick peck.
BONNIE_HAPPY: Why not indeed!
{0}_SURPRISED: Saving me for your marriage option. Sweet, I guess.
UMA_SURPRISED: You and Bon look cute together, sorry not sorry.
{0}_FLIRTY: Well, now for marriage.
{0}_FLIRTY: No guessing needed here.
{0} walks past {1} and lowers himself down to one knee in front of you.
{0}_FLIRTY: It’s gotta be {1}.
{0}_FLIRTY: For keeping us on our toes. Keeping us entertained.
{0}_ANGRY: Are you kidding me?
{0}_FLIRTY: And because every time we speak…
{0}_FLIRTY: It feels both brand new and somehow like we’ve known each other for years.
{0}_EMBARRASSED: At the same time… If that makes sense?
{0}_SERIOUS: Doesn’t make sense.
{0}_HAPPY: You get the point. I’m marrying {1}!
Over the top acceptance
PLAYER_HAPPY: Oh my days, {0}! I’ve been waiting my whole life for this.
PLAYER_HAPPY: It’s a dream come true.
Everyone giggles, except for {0} who rolls her eyes at you both.
{0}_HAPPY: I was worried you’d say no.
PLAYER_HAPPY: No chance. This is everything I ever wanted.
Play it cool
PLAYER_IDLE: Cheers, {0}.
You lean down towards him and whisper in his ear.
PLAYER_HAPPY: You can get up now by the way.
{0}_IDLE: Yep, on my way up, don’t worry.
Tease {0}
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Guess you’re not being a bride today, {0}.
PLAYER_HAPPY: I’ll let you be a bridesmaid instead if you really want?
{0}_SERIOUS: Get over yourself, it’s not even that deep.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: No wedding cake for you.
{0} scoffs and turns away from you.
Act uninterested
PLAYER_IDLE: And who are you gonna pie?
{0}_IDLE: Yeah, let’s move this along.
{0} gets back to his feet and picks up a pie.
{0}_IDLE: This pie is a bit of a jokey one, so no hard feelings.
{0}_SERIOUS: Don’t you dare. I actually won’t laugh.
{0}_IDLE: Don’t worry, {1}. You can relax.
{0} flings his pie straight into Travis’ face.
TRAVIS_SURPRISED: What was that for?
{0}_HAPPY: For stealing my new fiancée at the last recoupling.
{0}_HAPPY: Let’s just say you’ve made moves on someone I’m into.
{0}_HAPPY: Not that I blame you.
TRAVIS_HAPPY: Fair does.
{0} gives you a wink before getting back in line.
{0}_FLIRTY: I guess it’s my go then.
{0} walks up and down the line of Islanders, a playful glimmer in his eyes.
UMA_FLIRTY: Who’s getting a visit from those lips?
{0}_FLIRTY: Let me see.
{0} looks from Uma, to Vicky, then back to Uma.
{0} keeps his eyes on Uma as he walks over and snogs Vicky.
UMA_SURPRISED: Nice.
{0}_SERIOUS: You literally just snogged Travis!
VICKY_SERIOUS: I don’t appreciate being a revenge snog.
{0}_SERIOUS: It is what it is.
UMA_SERIOUS: So which lucky lady is getting married to the revenge snogger, then?
{0}_HAPPY: It’s actually gonna be a guy!
UMA_HAPPY: I didn’t see that one coming.
PLAYER_IDLE: Who’s the lucky boy?
{0} pulls {1} into a big bear hug.
{0}_HAPPY: I wanna marry this bloke because he’s the glue holding the boys together.
{0}_HAPPY: And I wanna use his moderate influencer fame to grab some clout of my own.
{0}_HAPPY: And marrying him is probably my best shot at learning Spanish in this life.
{0}_HAPPY: And he could probably get me massive discounts on scuba lessons.
{0}_HAPPY: And the last carpenter I got in charged me a hundred quid to fit a door.
{0}_HAPPY: Aww man, you’re making me blush. Such a heartfelt reason too.
{0}_HAPPY: But seriously, thanks for being a solid mate in here.
{0}_HAPPY: Think all the boys appreciate having you around.
The boys whoop and cheer.
UMA_HAPPY: Ok, you won me over. That’s cute.
{0}_FLIRTY: Don’t worry, Uma, I’ve not forgotten about you.
Uma starts backing away as {0} picks up the pie.
UMA_SURPRISED: Don’t you dare, {0}!
{0}_HAPPY: Nah, I’m only joking. Don’t worry.
UMA_IDLE: Phew.
As soon as Uma loosens up, {0} swivels around and gently smooshes the pie all over her face.
{0}_HAPPY: Oops! I slipped.
UMA_ANGRY: You and me will be having words.
{0}_FLIRTY: Pie looks good on you.
PLAYER_HAPPY: Maybe we should move on.
{0}_HAPPY: Alrighty. It’s my turn.
{0}_HAPPY: For my snog, I’m gonna go a little rogue. A bit off script.
{0}_HAPPY: Vicky, I think you’re a stunner.
{0} lightly presses up against Vicky and the two share a friendly snog.
VICKY_HAPPY: Seems I’m even more popular than I thought I was!
PLAYER_IDLE: Who are you going to marry?
{0} goes a little red.
{0}_EMBARRASSED: Has anyone ever seen an apologetic proposal before?
There is silence.
{0}_EMBARRASSED: First time for everything then.
{0} drops to one knee in front of Bonnie and looks deep into her eyes.
{0}_IDLE: This is from the bottom of my heart, Bonnie.
{0}_IDLE: I’m so sorry about what I said at Movie Night.
{0}_IDLE: I think you’re a total worldie.
{0}_IDLE: And I only said what I said because I was trying to show off to the boys.
{0}_IDLE: It was snakey and not nice and I’ll never do it again.
{0}_IDLE: So I hope you can accept my apology, and my hand in marriage.
PLAYER_IDLE: What do you say, Bonnie? Is he forgiven?
BONNIE_HAPPY: Hmmm, I’ll think about it.
Everyone cheers as Bonnie bundles {0} into a big hug.
BONNIE_HAPPY: Thought about it.
{0}_HAPPY: What about your pie?
{0}_HAPPY: Well, I know Bonnie said she’s forgiven me.
{0}_IDLE: But there’s one person here who will never forgive me for what I said.
{0} picks up a pie and slaps it into his own face.
{0}_IDLE: And that’s myself.
BONNIE_SURPRISED: Ok, now you really are forgiven!
{0}_HAPPY: Thank goodness for that.
{0} takes a bow and heads back into the group.
PLAYER_IDLE: It’s my turn.
You step up to the stage and look around at the Islanders.
UMA_FLIRTY: Who are you gonna snog, {0}?
{0}
You strut towards {0}.
Snog him
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Come here you.
You lean in and your lips press against his.
Slowly, his hands caress your waist as you tightly embrace.
You can feel him smiling behind the kiss, enjoying it as much as you. Both completely lost within the moment.
{0}_FLIRTY: Where are we again? That completely took me away.
PLAYER_FLIRTY: Glad you enjoyed it.
Ethan’s plan to drag Eva along to the castle was thwarted by the large number of people that had arrived.  In the ballroom, chairs and tables were hastily dragged out to make an eating space for everyone.  The autumn sun set quickly these days, and before he knew it, the sky was grey.  He apologetically exited the lively room while the others entertained; Ethan half-dragged both of the children toward their bedroom.  They were still excited about the party and had no desire to leave.  Fully entering Dad mode, Ethan chided them down the hallway.  Both girls were in a now-shared suite on the first floor that he’d effectively child-proofed.
After toothbrushing and pajamas, they continued to prolong the inevitable by asking for a story.  Ethan obliged; the favorite part of his evening was now laying in the large bed intended for Eveline (but Rose more or less always ended up there too) and sharing one of the classic storybooks from Karl’s family library.  The children’s books were mostly in German, but they were beautifully illustrated, and Ethan could fumble his way through the tales, more or less.  Tonight’s story was Hansel and Grethel.
A story about a witch who ate children lulled Rosemary to sleep without a hitch, but Evie looked perturbed after the book was closed.  Ethan glanced at her with raised eyebrows.  She exhaled, and then pulled the blanket up to her chin.
“Do you ever feel like just a piece of a person?  Like the rest of you is lost and you’re gonna get lost again and again.  Like them, in the forest, without the breadcrumb trail.”
“All the time,” Ethan said casually, and then he frowned at how dark the conversation was.  He turned toward the child and propped himself up on one elbow, his temple pressed against his palm.  “What’s on your mind?”
“I just hate…remembering what happened.  I still feel like I am a fake at having a family.  I wonder if you hate me.  I feel like a freak.”
He paused to consider this.  “It takes a long time to feel like other people are family.  I definitely don’t hate you, Evie.  I’ve been thinking about all of this for years now.   You were not taken care of like you should have been, that’s not your fault.  We both went through a horrible time, so did the Bakers, and other people.  It should have never happened, but that doesn’t make it the fault of a child.” He shrugged.
“Now we just have to work on rebuilding, because we were lucky enough to get the chance.  I know it’ll take lots of time, but I think those sad feelings will fade when you have more time spent in a safe place.  Things like that, adjusting–even when it’s a good adjustment, it takes a long time.”
“Do you feel safe?”
Another pause.  “Mostly.  When I don’t, that’s okay too.  I’m sure I’ll feel safer after time goes by…and after we deal with Miranda.”  They shared a rather macabre smirk, with hers hidden under the blanket.  “As far as feeling like a freak…well, we’re all freaks here, I guess.”  He tried not to chuckle, but her unimpressed stare caused him to slip.
“I thought you brought me back just for my powers.”
“Absolutely not,” Ethan almost cut her off, shaking his head from his awkward position.  “I appreciate that you helped us when you came back.  That was kind of you.  We really needed the help.  But I meant what I told you before–I don’t intend to use you like a weapon any more than I would use Rose as a weapon.  Rose has helped before too, but I want you two to stay out of it as much as possible.”
This seemed to soothe her, and she drew the blanket up even further, her eyes trailing around the room, lids finally flickering heavily.  So much like Mia’s.  Ethan watched her silently.  She had one more burning question, apparently.  “So, it takes time to feel safe….If that’s true, why are you so mad at Heisenberg for not talking about things with you?”
“You uh, heard that, huh?” he said, his ears reddening.
She shook her head.  “No, I can sense things, sometimes, like feelings.  The more I’m here, the less it happens.  But I noticed it today.  You feel mad at him and he feels scared, really scared.”
“That’s surprising.  He never really acts scared.”
“He learned not to.  The same way I learned not to.  Sometimes it’s not safe to act scared.”  With this, her eyes finally closed, and Ethan realized he’d been stroking her hair without realizing it.
—--------------
Ethan felt strange as he crossed where the river passed in front of the castle.  Since Karl’s re-routing of the river earlier in the year, the once-rapid and rocky creek had turned into a shallow pond, inches deep and perhaps ten feet wide.  It made a beautiful, if eerie, reflection of the large gate in its mirror-like surface, and Ethan frowned as he crossed it on foot, splashing with each step, disturbing the peaceful reflection.
He felt strange for multiple reasons.  Firstly, he seemed to be almost nocturnal now.  Ethan’s body perked up at night, responded to it viscerally.  Perhaps that’s why Karl was such a night owl as well.  Ethan craved to be outdoors during this time, to leap and run and smell things exactly as an animal would.  So the night called to him.
Instead of simply disappearing from the manor and re-appearing here at the castle, he’d drank in the sight of the cold valley before him, and the Black God urged another transformation into will.  The same flock of birds, bright Kingfishers in the moonlight..  Ethan didn’t protest this time; he was too swept up in his newfound passion for darkness.  He didn’t like anything that reminded him of Miranda, but the sensation was unlike anything he’d ever felt.   Flying, dispersed, over the rolling hills,  craggy cliff sides of the valley was a sensation he could only ever dream of before this.  It was thrilling, a glance at what a heaven might feel like if one existed.
He also felt strange to be approaching the castle at night, walking up the familiar marble steps in the entryway, and openly shouting, “Hello? Lady D?”  Given his previous horrifying time spent trying to dodge her in every direction, his soul was screaming at him to leave, and at the very least, to shut up.
A voice filtered from the Great Hall, and as he moved into that room he saw her standing, staring at a painting on the wall.  She had lit the fireplace, and Ethan sauntered into the room feeling extremely awkward.  He was relieved at seeing the wine she gestured toward, until he remembered, and she scoffed, “It’s imported, have no fear.”
His weak smile made her roll her eyes, and then they moved back toward the same chairs where they had their first non-violent conversation.  He poured far too much wine for himself, and sat back in the chair.  After it became clear that she would sit in stony silence for an indeterminate period of time, he tried, “How are you feeling?”
“Quite awful, actually,” she said with an almost sad chuckle, and glanced around the hall as if looking for someone.  “I had hoped coming here, I might…feel, something.  A spark.  A memory of home.  Be comforted, have second thoughts.  I feel nothing of the sort.  I no longer know, Mister Winters, what part of my existence was really me, and what part was…” she gestured to her head, and he took that to signify the cadou.
“For what it’s worth, I know you know I was just trying to protect myself, but I’m still…sorry about your daughters.”  There.  He’d said it.  He exhaled as if dropping a weight from his shoulders.  Her eyebrows rose in surprise, and she clutched at her own arm with the opposite hand, as if embracing herself.
“Well…thank you, but, no need to apologize.”  An awkward silence ensued, in which Ethan tried to drink as much wine as possible.
The fire crackled.  “They were not the first experiment I helped with.  I was, at one point, a very proficient lab assistant.  Miranda seemed pleased with me.  But…do you know what she did, after their creation you might say, was complete, and I…embraced them?”
He shrugged and shook his head.  Alcina’s smile was icy, but he almost saw the hint of pain cross between her brows.  She looked past him, toward the dining room.
“She forbade me from going to the laboratory.  She was…angered, I could tell.  There were others for me to pay attention to, not just her, and perhaps I had gained something she had lost.  Daughters.  I was ecstatic in this moment of finally not being alone, finally having someone in this place with me.  Miranda would not let me leave, but she was….”  Alcina seemed to need to drink more to say the next part aloud.
“She was not interested in me, at all, after that.”
Ethan’s eyebrows raised.  “That’s pretty fucked up.”  The wine appeared to be doing its job.
Alcina glared at him, and then said in a monotone, “Yes.”
He had no tact.  Alcohol wasn’t helping.  “I’m guessing that after that, she had a new favorite Lord to focus on…and it was–”
“Heisenberg, yes.”  She scoffed.  Alcina fished on the table for a cigarette for her cigarette holder; he noticed that her hands were shaking.  “She made it quite cear that she found my… emotional attachment unwanted.  Heisenberg was not only a…a man,” she struggled on the word, as though she saw Karl as a boy, “He was a scientist as she was.  Fascinated by the world.  She sought to make him a biologist.  I suppose that did not work out as planned.”
He could only stare, trying to imagine a younger Karl and Alcina tiptoeing around Miranda.  It seemed crazy now, but it had been their reality for decades.  He realized that the change–the change of the village’s fate–felt quick to him, but was probably still new to the former Lords.
Alcina got the cigarette where she wanted it, and as her shaking hands fumbled with a match, he obliged, striking it, then lighting the end of the cigarette for her. She nodded in thanks, and then tossed her hair back.
“I could see right through his displeasure from the start.  I urged him to speak to me of it, but he never did, which was probably a wise choice on his part.  I could see that he loathed her.  He cringed at her orders, writhed during every church service, spat out the words of any prayer she might have us chant.  I was so confused why I had been cast aside for someone with barely contained hatred, until it slowly dawned on me….that Miranda could not believe someone hated her.  Oh, she questioned Heisenberg’s loyalty eventually, she even questioned mine as years dragged on.  But I never forgave him for the sin of….fooling her, even for a moment.  I had true feelings, true hope, that she and I were a family, that we could….well, it doesn’t matter now.”
“Are you really sure this is what you want to do?” he pressed, in a softer tone than he’d used with anyone other than Evie recently.  “It’s….”
“I’m certain you think me a coward now.”
“Not at all,” he argued, shaking his head slowly, watching the room blur.
“I had a dream, the night I was brought back into this world.  When I slept in the manor.  I saw my mother-my real mother-by a cliffside, begging me to come back to her.  She wanted to embrace me, that’s all.  A hug.  Something so simple…and yet it was not something she ever did to me, and I regret to say it was not something I ever did for my daughters.  Too prideful, foolish, frightened.”
Ethan almost felt as if he could read, or touch, her energy in this moment.  Maybe it was the alcohol; his intuition told him it was the Black God, surveying her form.  Perhaps her suitability?  He wondered why the presence in his mind would assess, otherwise.  Alcina was very stony.  Heavy.  She felt almost like marble.  She seemed shut down, closed off, almost impossible to crack, much less break.  Strong, but inflexible?  Ethan almost felt pity for her, but stopped short, knowing how she would respond to that.
“Anyway,” she sighed, “In the dream, she was there, telling me to come toward her.  I heard another voice over hers, telling me to do what it was I truly wanted instead. I wasn’t sure whose other voice it was in the dream, but I think I know now.  I believe it was my own.  Telling me to do what I wanted.  For once.  Do you know what I chose, in the dream?”
Another clueless head shake from the blond, who was enraptured.
“I crumbled, turned into dust.  All these years being the tall, impenetrable tower.  Not just the damsel in it, but the tower itself…  I fell into dust and caught the wind, and that was the best part.  Being taken away.  No more being told what to do.  For once, not stone, not broken.  Just the wind.”
Ethan mused in silence.  After a pause, he said weakly, “But, if you try to enter the Megamycete, you won’t be going away.  You’ll be…trapped.”
“I see it as a realm where there are more possibilities than ever seen in this world.  True freedom, a chance to begin again.  Am I wrong?”
“Probably not.  It seems like that’s what it was before Miranda.  At least in some parts of history.”
“Exactly.  It could be this again.  It needs nurturing, like a mind, does it not? It requires structure.  Models of behavior.  Empathy, perhaps. I feel this deeply, almost with my instinct.  Besides.”  She shrugged, and a sly smile finally crept onto her porcelain features.  “If I  am made to have the power Eva had before….I may be able to have my revenge on the last person to take my life away from me.  It will do.  Trust me, Ethan, I would not be so keen on this if my daughters were here.  And I do not wish to separate any of you from your family.”
He was finished with his wine, and reached for more, his hand unsteady.  Both Ethan and Alcina’s cheeks were deeply flushed.  She watched him pour intently.
“The girls will be sad to see you leave,” he offered.
“Is it leaving? Or is it changing?”
“Good point.  You sound like–” he winced.  “Like Karl.”
“Oh please, do not insult me in my home.”  She laughed, then Ethan laughed.
Just then a trail of voices poured into the room adjacent, and Alcina raised an eyebrow.  Ethan stood, realizing that he was very drunk, and also that he’d intended to stand up to defend Lady D–a ludicrous idea, even when she was without her mutant powers.  However, the voices turned the corner and suddenly were not voices, but heads and bodies–Karl, Donna, and Moreau.  Ethan stared, stupefied.
Alcina stood and turned, looking at them with a mixture of contempt and confusion.  Donna began, timidly, by holding out a platter.  “We thought you would like some dinner.”
“And-and this,” Moreau added, brandishing the patera.  “Ethan told us what was said in the other realm…if you still want to…”
“We’re just here to support you, whatever you decide.  We wanted to spend time with you,” Donna continued, walking toward the fireplace, setting down the food on the coffee table and surprising everyone by hugging Alcina.  The castellan’s eyes almost popped out of her head, but she accepted the hug in stride.
Karl hovered near the entryway, looking out of place.  Moreau placed the patera on the table and then sauntered near what looked like a cabinet, but when he opened the top of it, Ethan realized it was a phonograph.  The fisherman propped up the stand, and Alcina interrupted him.
“Moreau!  The bottom cabinet.  You’ve reminded me of something.”  She was smiling.  Donna moved forward, staring curiously.
“Are these the infamous–”
“None other!”  Her wine was working its magic as well, Ethan realized.  Despite her angst, Alcina was having a moment of happiness.
When she saw Ethan’s rather blank smile, Alcina supplied, “Miranda increased her bans of outside media as the years wore on and technology increased.  Particularly notorious was a set of books and records–ah, there they are, Salvatore!”
Karl strode forward suddenly, leaning over the shorter man, and Ethan found himself drawn to the box as well.  Alcina paced, finally sitting on the chair behind them, and reaching for food.  Moreau took a record from the box.  “Oh, these were the collection of inspired by’s!”  His rather mad chuckle was almost endearing.
“The what now?” Ethan couldn’t keep up with the plot.  Karl’s eyes were wide.  He turned to look over his shoulder at Alcina with something of disbelief.
“No way you have those.  She gave them to YOU?”
“Of course she did, I’m the responsible one,” Alcina shot back, but she was smiling the entire time.  She bit into a carrot as if to punctuate her sentence, and Karl grabbed the box of records, fishing through them.
Moreau began winding the old gramophone.  Ethan wasn’t sure what the ‘inspired by’ comment meant until Karl bark-laughed at one of the records.  “Oh shit, yeah, these are them! Ho-lee-shit!”
“Can someone explain?” Ethan said testily, moving from the phonograph back toward the table, where he opened a new bottle of wine.  Alcina hesitated, but then began with her continued smile, “Over the years, before everything was so isolated, others made their way to the village, artists or other sightseeing folk.  Tourists.  Miranda ate up anything created about her…”
“Never was about science,” Karl interrupted, “Was always about her ego.  She fed into it for years, the LORE…..”
“She used to allow some of these stories, songs to be played or read in the village.  There were artworks as well, those she adored.  There were children’s stories about her as well.  As time went on, I believe…"
Karl laughed again.  “The stories became...not so nice.  She couldn’t decide if she loved or hated bein’ a villain.”
“But Karl quite absolutely loved it,” Alcina interrupted with another dazzling smile, and now all of the Lords were giggling.  Giggling.  Ethan had to hide his own smile behind a wine glass.  “He created a collection of the more…well, disparaging songwritten material, and used his powers to blast them in a simply ghastly-loud manner, out of the factory.  Always one could guarantee it, when he was being punished.”
Ethan remembered the loudspeakers surrounding the gates, where Karl had taunted him to enter months before.  He was giggling too.
Donna was collapsing with laughter.  “I could hear the sound over the waterfall.  Uh oh…Heisenberg did it again!”
“She finally got sick of it and demanded all of his music gone,” Moreau finished with a wide, amphibious smile.  “Then he just started with the sirens.”
“Oh, that’s nothing, Mother, just working on things!” Alcina pantomimed, flinging her arms out.  Donna cackled, hiding her face in her hands.
“Okay, I’ve gotta see these,” Ethan interjected, and he sat the wine glass down, unsteadily crossing the hall to sit between Donna and Karl, thumbing through mostly foreign records.  Some were very old, others were newer.  He did a double-take at a recognizable name.
“Townes Van Zandt?”  One of his cherished, only memories of his father was hearing the old vinyl Pancho and Lefty coming from the garage, where Ethan was eventually allowed to help restore the old t bucket.
And now you wear your skin like iron, and your breath as hard as kerosene
Karl took the record and opened it.  “Ah, yeah.  Travelin’ student, rich.  Got lost.  She had a thing for Americans–” he wagged his eyebrows at Ethan, who instantly interjected, “No.”
“Anyway, he took the wrong train in.  I remember him.  She did her savior thing that she always did, showed him around, gave him the old cult special tour.  Wild that she used to do that.  Man, how it all went downhill.”
Alcina and Moreau were nodding.  The tall woman chewed her food thoughtfully and then said eagerly, holding up a finger, “I had a thought…could it be that she was looking for a…eugh, a husband?  at any of those times?  It always seemed to be men that she brought in.”
“She said men were dumber,” Salvatore supplied, and he and Alcina laughed at this. “I don’t know about a husband, but she…you know how he was.”  Salvatore’s laugh was nervous as he put on the record that he’d opened.  Despite the jovial mood, a very melancholy song began to play.  It was haunting, almost a folk-style ballad, Ethan mused.  It reminded him of Scarborough Fair , which Karl was always whistling to Rose.
“He was one of the last outsiders that she allowed to leave, if I recall.”  Donna’s eyes were wide.  “I remember reading years later that he had a rather difficult life.  But I don’t suppose he ever forgot Miranda, he sent this album back to us years later.”
“To ME,” Karl interjected, “I was the one that shacked him up on his way out.”  To Ethan, he explained, “He was terrified of whatever she done to him–you can pretty much figure it out by the song, but maybe he changed some things to make for a better story, I don’t know.  Anyway, he showed up at the factory in a craze, bangin’ on the door….I let him in, told him he better slip out an’ go east on foot when the sun came up.  She didn’t like bein’ in the sun much.”
Well, that answered at least one question of Ethan’s.
“So he slept there, scared outta his skin, an boy he shot out at dawn like a bullet.  Found his way out.  I had to play dumb when she asked if anybody saw him leavin’.”
“I KNEW you did something!” Alcina bellowed, and everyone laughed again.  “Oh!! I KNEW it.  She told me to drop it, but I–augh, I knew .”
Karl’s laugh was sincere, as if he truly was pleased with himself.
The conversation continued, the siblings truly becoming comfortable speaking about their lives-their trauma-for the first time, and Ethan’s smile stayed as he sat by the fire and listened to the many tales they exchanged.  He should have felt incredibly warm, both from the fire and from the eager conversation, but the folk song Moreau chose filled him with a cold, empty dread.
But I know I hear my baby crying ‘mama’
You'll never hear your baby cry again
Oh where have all the people gone?
Won't you tell me, where have all the people gone?
Don’t you worry about those people anymore
Take me for a walk in the morning dew
Please take me for a walk in the morning dew, my love
You can’t go walking in the morning dew today
It's funny...
Surprise, surprise - here I am once again looking at the consequences of my actions. Met a really decent dude. Kind of cute, really tall, has great body, has stable professional life, and is looking forward to settling down. Now here's the funny thing - I know for a god damn fact that I would never ever want to settle down i.e. have kids and get married. I made a vow to myself when I was 18 that I would never step into this kind of life that the straights would want me to get into. But WHY OH WHY do I always go for the guy who wants this kind of thing haha. I mean, I obviously know why. I can be such a manipulative bitch sometimes and I don't know what I want. I say that I don't wanna get married yet I go for the guy who wants to and is ready for a family. I say I don't want kids yet I fall flat on my knees when I find out the guy has paternal potential. Truthfully, I don't what I want and I don't know who I am at the moment. I'm tired of that. One thing that I can say I'm proud of about myself when that dude and I broke our communication off, was that I did not once apologize for my wants and for being myself. I didn't try to be a people pleaser around him, I was actually telling the truth about myself no matter how much shame it still held. For example, I told him my body count of 60. That's a lot for a 24-year-old. But not once did I say sorry about it nor defend me about it. it's so liberating, so freeing, such a relish to not be apologetic about yourself. To just tell the truth. To not care if the other person will like it or not. This is the beauty of it, I guess. But I digress, I take on the challenge of going for the guy who is obviously in a different stage in my life. I always seem to go big or go home but when things are going great, I become half-hearted about my decisions. This is what that quote was talking about "it takes practice to feel good, too." I go for that kind of guy because I may be bored, or maybe deep down I really do want those things and it makes me feel wanted & feel like the girl in the movies who's got it all - the man, the house, the job, etc. And then when things start to fall into place, I get uncomfortable. My brain's trained to feel uncomfortable the moment things start to be stable. Isn't that crazy? I've gotten a lot of practice being uncomfortable. But when feeling good takes its place, boy do I make the biggest mess and run from it. It does take practice to feel good and I should be devoted to that practice. Our brains are survival machines so obviously there will always be uncomfortable situations & crises we'll deal with. But feeling good? unwinding and not giving a fuck about the past or the future? Ah, that's even more liberating and freeing. I hope one day I free myself of the decisions I keep making about love and relationships. I hope someday I find what I truly want and need and that I finally know myself and rebuilt myself. I hope someday I get to ask myself, is this what you want? And say yes to it wholeheartedly and I hope someday I find someone who can say and feel the same. Oh, what a long time it'll be before that happens. And that's okay, I'm only 24. Love should be the last thing on my mind anyway but it doesn't hurt to always try what's out there, I guess.
Hello! Can you write one about Nanami where the reader is oblivious and they're really close to Gojo so he gets jealous often. Sometimes Gojo does things purposely to annoy him and one day he just lost his composure and accidentally admitted his feelings for you.
I hope u accept if you're not too busy. Thank you!!!
— a little push
— sometimes all nanami needs is a little push.
Tumblr media
nanami kento x fem! reader
thank you for the request anon! i’m not sure if reader is oblivious enough but i hope you like it! there’s some thick pining here hur hur, i hope you like it! i never knew i needed an easily flustered and awkward nanami in my life also this is unedited as usual
check my bio for masterlist and my milestone event! (◕ᴗ◕✿)
Tumblr media
“Do you mind?”
Nanami sighs, silently praying to the heavens you wouldn’t hear the way his heart is absolutely panicking and beating wildly right now. You’d randomly pushed him inside the teachers’ office the moment he got back to the institute at work, and now he’s doomed to hide his feelings while you look up at him with wide, innocent eyes, a shaky yet excited grin painted on your face.
“Sorry, sorry,” you wave your hands in front of you, although he can tell you’re not apologetic at all. Nanami clears his throat when you step backwards to give him space, unsure if he’s happy or sad about the distance. “I was just really excited to see you back.”
Your carefree, lighthearted voice, along with that little jump in your toes combined with your statement – you’re basically asking Nanami to shrivel up already.
The stoic man remains composed, though, only shifting to adjust his tie while he stares down at you. You’re still somewhat bouncing on your feet, teeth biting your lip – a habit you had when you want to say something but contemplating whether you should. Tilting away to hide the slight flush in his cheeks, Nanami sighs again, pretending to be tired.
The last thing he wants to admit that even though he is exhausted from work, is that you’d never bother him. In fact, having you bombard him like this makes him feel like he didn’t deal with special grade curse by himself all alone just an hour ago.
“If there’s something you want to say, I suggest you get it over with. I don’t want to stay overtime and wait until the blindfolded creep comes around.”
You giggle at his insult, hiding behind your cupped palms. Crap, Nanami looks away and focuses on the birds outside instead, suddenly finding them so interesting despite never paying attention to them before. Maybe that was the curse of crushes – it had people acting differently and in complete contrast with their behavior.
“About that,” you begin almost shyly now, and Nanami practically bursts when he sees you tapping both of your pointer fingers together, gaze tilted away from him.
It makes him wonder you’re nearly on the same skill to Gojo, yet still somehow look like a small, innocent being that makes him want to protect you from everything – even if you were more than capable of handling things yourself. Well, Nanami concludes to himself, maybe you’re really just that paradoxical that it makes sense why he can never think straight around you. Maybe he’s really not supposed to understand the complexity of his feelings when you were a phenomena to begin with already.
“You see…Satoru asked me out.”
Nanami stiffens at your statement for a split second before his head whips to you so fast. You’re observant – of course you are, you’re a jujutsu sorcerer – and you easily pick up in his sudden change of demeanor. Your brow raises at his abrupt reaction, to which Nanami conceals by flexing his neck and rolling his shoulders back.
“I am simply tired from work,” he haf-lies, “So, Satoru asked you out? Will you say yes?”
His words and tone are monotonous, almost bored even, but deep inside he’s so close to beating the crap out of his co-worker. Well, not really, Nanami isn’t a man of violence, but he’s jealous. Of course he is – he’s liked you ever since Principal Yaga hired you.
He’s never told Satoru about his little crush on you. He would be stupid to do such; Satoru would tease him to no end and maybe even be as childish to go as far as pushing him to you. Typical elementary shit, Nanami cringes to himself, watching as you look down at your feet with a pout. Now that confused him. He isn’t sure what your body language means at all, but patient as ever, Nanami only waits.
“Well,” you scratch your forehead, “I’m really flattered. I want to say yes because Satoru is a nice guy—”
“He is not. I do not respect him.”
You roll your eyes at the way his eyes darkens, “—but also I’m not sure if I should. I mean, Satoru doesn’t really date, you know? He’ll be with like one girl and be with another the next week. I just don’t want to…like, fall for that, I guess. Not that I won’t, because he’s totally not my type—”
“It’s just a yes or no,” Nanami cuts you off, his words coming out a lot harsher than he intends it to be. It’s not that he’s annoyed at your rambling, he actually finds it so adorable when you get so lost in your train of thoughts that your mind just travels from one place to another, and seeing how your eyes just leave farther from reality is something he’s always find such an attractive quirk, but not now – not when his infuriating co-worker is intending to mess with your feelings. “Do you want to go or not? Yes or no? It’s as simple as that.”
You blink back at him in surprise, mouth opening and closing like a fish. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Nanami was a no-bullshit man who hit things right on the head, a huge contrast to your happy-go-lucky self, but he’s right.
It is that simple – and you’re complicating things all over again.
When you give him an answer, Nanami has to muster all his energy to not deflate. He’s tired – but now his exhaustion and even the heartbreak comes crashing down all over him that he’s immediately weighed down and overwhelmed – so much so that all he wants is to go home.
“Yes, I want to go.”
Tumblr media
It’s his day off.
Like everything else in his life, Nanami plans everything down to the last minute of his day. His day off consisted of him having the privilege to sleep in until 8am, then breakfast with coffee from that great café a five minute walk away from his apartment, then he’ll be reading books in his study for two hours. Comes after that is lunch, and he’ll brows through some TV shows, pick up his clothes from the dry cleaning, get that special limited edition dinner of his favorite sushi, read books again and call it a day.
Simple, peaceful, no hassle – it’s the perfect day to relax.
Except it isn’t.
Because it’s your day off too, and you’re out on a date with Satoru. He still remembers how happy you looked then upon accepting the white haired man’s invitation, your nimble fingers wrapped around his sleeve as you shyly asked him to come with you.
He doesn’t know why you had to bring him, but he doesn’t question it, nonetheless. Nanami wants to see how Satoru would react, if there could be any indication from the man behind his blindfold that he had ill intentions. Oddly enough, there didn’t seem to be any. Satoru only beamed and deflated into a chibi, enthusiastically nodding along with you while you planned your date together.
Nanami took it upon himself to leave.
With a silent scoff, Nanami placed his dinner down on the counter. Because it’s his day off – and mostly because he doesn’t feel like himself – Nanami went out to buy the limited edition sushi wearing a white shirt and some gray sweatpants, too forlorn and a little jealous to even bother dressing up.
It’s stupid, really. He’s been looking forward for this sushi for a long, long time, but now that he’s had it, he can’t even enjoy the taste. His mind keeps going back to you.
Were you having fun with Satoru? Were you enjoying your time? Was Satoru treating you well? What was Satoru’s intentions when it came with you? The last time Nanami checked, you and him got along really well and you’re mostly the one who whacks the taller man in the head upside down when he’s being stupid, almost like two peas in a pod, except you were the smarter one. He’d been so sure you’re nothing but friends and yet…it all lead to this.
Nanami pushes his sushi away. They no longer taste like anything, the texture like dried paper on his mouth. He wipes his lips with a napkin, staring longingly at well…nothing. His walls were plain and empty, and suddenly, Nanami can’t help but compare himself to Gojo.
You both planned to go to the local carnival. There’d be lots of foods and even parlor shops, ferris wheel rides and photo booths to create memories. Of course you and Satoru would go there; both of you enjoyed loud, bustling crowds, claiming there was something amazing about basking in the “lives of humans when ignorant of curses” while Nanami prefers his peace and silence.
Had you gone out on a date with him instead, Nanami can’t guarantee he’ll be any fun. He most definitely wouldn’t ask you to go to a carnival with him either. It was loud, cramped, crowded, and it’s too chaotic for him to ever enjoy your presence and enjoy it alone.
Nanami closes the sushi box, turns on the TV and lets is play on the background, a wet towel above his eyes to relax his tired eyes.
He hopes you’re having fun. He hopes Satoru is treating you well. Nanami just ignores the slight pain in his chest when he thinks of you, laughing and touching anyone but him, and he could picture it already. You’ve always been so open and welcoming to everyone, he knows you’ll have fun today, too.
That’s one of the things he finds most endearing about you – that your smile never fades and you never forget about the simple, little things in life to focus on to keep your sanity after facing curse after curse.
He’s fine, he tells himself. Satoru may be annoying, but he knows you could have fun with him, and you deserved to be happy more than anyone else.
Nanami is about to fall asleep on his couch when his phone vibrates on the coffee tables. Groaning, he flicks off the towel to his shoulders, grumbling about how Principal Yaga better be respecting his day off, but the last thing he expects to see is your contact name flashing on the screen. In the contact photo, you’re winking with a peace sign held above your head.
You look so utterly adorable Nanami just wants to kiss you. He remembers this photo was taken when Yuuji got bored and asked to play games on his phone. Upon finding that there was none – of course there was none – the strawberry-haired student opted for taking pictures of everyone instead. There’s one with Nobara growling, Megumi sipping his boba-tea with dead eyes as if he’s so done with the world, more than twenty pictures of Satoru flexing his muscles and posing like an idiot, and then there’s yours.
Nanami remembers staring at his phone for a solid minute, his gallery actually blessed with your face in it. The sun shines behind you on that photo and you’re absolutely shining. He thinks that’s when he truly fell in love.
And it just so happened the love of his life is calling, making his heart skip a beat because shouldn’t you be with Gojo? Why were you calling him? Did something wrong happen?
Nanami doesn’t waste another second before swiping the green icon, already standing up from the couch as he grabs his jacket. He had this weird inkling something is wrong, why else would you call him?
His theories are proven true when your voice comes out shaky. “H-hello?”
“Good evening,” he greets stiffly, brows furrowed as he listens in on the way you seem to be shuffling around. “Is there something wrong?”
“I, uhm,” he hears you sniffle through the other line, “Yeah, I guess there is…Satoru just texted he can’t come because Principal Yaga suddenly sent him to a mission overseas…and then I just realized that Satoru’s been summoned by the elders and he’s just refusing to show up, so now they cornered him, I guess… anyways, I’m talking too much and I don’t want to be a bother, but would you maybe…like to hang out with me?”
Nanami’s hand freezes on the doorknob. “Hang out…professionally?”
He immediately wants to smack himself in the forehead for that. Out of all things he could’ve said, he just had to utter something unintelligent. He hears you snicker in the background and Nanami’s ears redden.
He quickly regains his composure with a clear of his throat, suddenly remembering that Satoru’s ditched you, so now you’re asking him instead. It kind of feels like he’s just a replacement, but Nanami buries this feeling down before it consumes him, wondering if he’s already regretting changing into better clothes because he actually agreed to go to a carnival with you.
Upon hearing your happy, “Okay! I’ll wait for you then!”, Nanami realizes that he doesn’t actually mind. Especially not with you.
Tumblr media
The carnival is loud.
Nanami dreads the moment he steps out of his car, his body swallowed by the bustling crowd and defeaning music of banging drums and clashing instruments. There’s a hundred scents everywhere – smoke, fish, glazed apples – he doesn’t know where to begin or how to focus.
He nearly turns back to his hair, about to shoot you a text that maybe this is beyond him after all. His head begins to spin when he’s only pushed deeper into the crowd, people bumping into him with every single second and it’s so suffocating. It doesn’t make sense to him how anyone could possibly go on a date like this and enjoy it. He knows for sure this chaos won’t let him enjoy his date’s presence because he’s too busy trying to get away from it all.
Nanami staggers for a bit when a strong hand tugs him to the side. Soon, he finds himself pressed flush against you in a tight corner, your hips warm on his. “Hi,” you breathe out airily, lashes fanning and fluttering in that same manner that always made his heart do complete flips.
“Hello,” he greets back with a small bow out of faux respect, but really, he’s just keeping his head down because you look so beautiful in that moment he doesn’t even know where to look. You’re warm and soft next to his hard and stiff muscles, the scent of roses and vanilla mixing in with the street smoke and Nanami’s head grows dizzy, his hand around yours tightening for comfort. “Y/N…I do not prefer this crowd. Can I take you back home instead? You must be tired – I’ll prepare dinner for you.”
Nanami blinks back in surprise when he sees you nod, a slight grimace on your face, and you practically bury your face in his bicep as you groan, “It’s too noisy for me too. Let’s just hang out at your place.”
So you end up in his immaculately clean apartment, admiring and staring at the boring furniture. Nanami changes into more comfortable clothes and whips out something to cook, not wanting to feed you measly take out when you’re probably famished. He watches with side glances as you pick up a photo of him with his parents when he was younger, cooing and giggling at the baby version of him.
“Nanamin, you’re so cute!”
Nanami scoffs and turns back to the heated water in the bowl, arms hard as they cross against his chest covered with an apron. “Please do not call me cute. I am anything but.”
“No, you’re really cute,” you insist, but after seeing Nanami’s flustered frown, you eventually give up and give the poor man a break. Later, you wobble next to him, watching with curious eyes and a small smile as he adds the vegetables into the soup, moving expertly as he diced up the onions to the side. The sheer focus and attention on his daily tasks makes him falter, and he suddenly finds it so hard to function now.
“Why are you staring at me? Is there something so interesting about slicing up onions?”
“No, not really,” you say absentmindedly, the slight plop of the ingredients echoing. “It’s just – I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this way. Domestic, I mean, but it looks good on you,” you nod to yourself, and Nanami finds himself struggling to act as if your presence wasn’t making him go crazy while he proceeds to cook. “In fact, everything looks good on you, and I find you really interesting!”
“Y-you do?”
“Yes, of course!”
“Why?”
“I don’t know,” you shrug, assisting him silently with mixing the bowl even when he didn’t ask you to. Unaware that he’s now focused on you, watching you cook with him with you pressed up against his side, almost as if it’s right where you belong, Nanami feels the same with you. You also look good being this domestic with him, and he suddenly blurts out, “Would you like to stay with me? Like this?”
Your eyes slide over his in a slow fashion, slow enough that his brain hotwires at the fear maybe he’s said something wrong. But Nanami immediately swallows it down, huffing and turning away from you with that stoic expression again. “Forgive me. That was weird—”
“Why would it be weird?” you laughed to yourself before bumping your hips with his, “You’re the one who invited me here. Of course I want to stay.”
That’s…that’s not what he means.
Nanami is left staring openly at you while you help him set the table and you proceed to talk about how you didn’t really want to go to the carnival but Satoru insisted you’d have fun, so you went anyway even if you’d much prefer to be somewhere else. He’s barely listening, too distracted by the way your lips move and how you swing the house slippers on your big toe, your legs crossed on top of another and your figure slightly hunched across from him.
You look so comfortable and welcomed in his home that it puts him at ease too, not worried that he has to impress you anything because it’s you, and Nanami could actually be vulnerable enough to laugh with you over a bowl of vegetable soup.
It’s fine, he lies to himself again, it’s fine that you don’t know he likes you even if he tends to slip and be obvious sometimes. Because at least you’re with him in that moment, and he lies to himself again that it’s fine, that maybe next time he’ll tell you, but he doesn’t worry about. How could he worry about it when you’re snorting so loud over a lame joke he said that rice nearly came out your nose, and he’s so drunk over the sound of your bubbly laughter that something flutters deep within his belly?
When you help him wash the dishes and bask in the silence instead, comfortable over the lack of words and nothing but the sound of his faucet running and the slight rubbing of towels against dishes heard in the background, Nanami is unsure whether he’s glad that Satoru ditched you on your first date.
Tumblr media
It doesn’t stop there.
Nanami only keeps falling in love with you more. He’s been doing a good job of keeping his feelings to himself because the last thing he wants is to have you stay away from him, but Satoru was really getting on his nerves.
He’s just come back from exorcising a curse when he sees you and Satoru play-wrestling in the field with the other students. Megumi is grumbling to himself in the corner, Yuuji is laughing and cheering on you to tackle down his sensei who’s currently going down in high-pitched laughter, Toge pumping his fists and screaming, “Salmon, salmon!”
It’s a chaotic sight – one that he usually doesn’t mind – until you finally pin Satoru down on the ground, your ass above his crotch. Satoru’s hands then come up to squeeze your ass and hips under the false pretense he’s struggling to push you off him, but Nanami knows better.
“Give up already!” you tease the other sorcerer who’s still wriggling underneath you, and Nanami sees it before it happens.
Satoru’s legs bend beneath you and he tries to pin you under him in quick movements, but Nanami is faster, his reflexes taking over. Before he realizes what he’s doing, Nanami tugs you and pulls you forward until you collide on his chest. He’s breathing hard, eyes narrowed at the arrogant smirk painted on Satoru’s features. Meanwhile, you’ve softened in Nanami’s grip, hands fisting his shirt that has him hardening up out of sheer protectiveness.
“Oh, Nanamin!” Satoru beams while wiping the dirt on his hands across his uniform, “Glad to see you here. You wanna join training too?”
“This is hardly training,” he retorts with a clenched jaw, “You’re harassing and disrespecting your fellow sorcerer because you can never keep your dirty hands to yourself,” before Satoru could defend himself, he’s already all over you, his hand tilting your chin side to side to check for any injuries. “Are you hurt anywhere? Did this bastard do anything else?”
“No, not really—”
“Why do you care so much, Nanamin?” Satoru teases, and the students all huddle to watch the commotion. Everyone can feel the tension rising, and Nanami only stiffens up further when he feels you lean closer to his warmth almost absentmindedly. “She and I were just playing around, no hard feelings, no foul play. We’re just having fun, right, Y/N?”
“She is not someone you can just have fun with, Satoru. You’ve already crossed the line when you ditched her on your first date, and you didn’t even bother texting or calling back when I drove her home. It’s disrespectful, and she deserves better than that.”
“Nanami—”
“I was busy,” Satoru sighs dramatically, “And if she deserves better than me, then who would it be? I can take care her of her, you know, she and I have been besties for like what, a year now? I’ll be good to her,” he smirks, and Nanami wants nothing more than to punch him square in the jaw. “Besides, it’s not like she’s dating anyone else. She’s single and ready to mingle—”
“Maybe she is, but I’m not,” Nanami deadpans, his harsh tone shocking everyone.
“Wh-what do you mean?” you squeak under him, and Nanami falls silent. He’s never thought of confessing to you, especially not this way, and Nobara is biting Yuuji’s jacket behind them to muffle her squeals. Panda is clapping his hands and whispers oh, here we go, followed by Toge’s salmon salmon.
It dawns on him now that everyone knows he likes you after all, and now that he’s confronted with the situation, he can’t run away from it. Not that Nanami plans on running away, for he is a man and his pride doesn’t allow him to evade situations like this.
He just wishes it could’ve gone out better.
“Forgive me if this makes you uncomfortable,” Nanami releases his grip on you, loosening his tie that makes him feel like he’s choking both on air and his words. Through his cool stature, he’s actually sweating inside his clothes, and it doesn’t help you’re patient with him too, head tilted to the side curiously and so horribly cutely he might combust. “But I have always been, and I still am, utterly in love with you.”
Nobara and Yuuji no longer hold back as they scream to themselves, the former slapping the latter in his back while Megumi only shakes his head, muttering “about time,” under his breath. Maki snickers to herself and Satoru is stunned, but it’s nothing compared to the way you shrink under his gaze for a moment.
He believes you’re going to run away from him because of his blatant confession; it wasn’t romantic at all, and the kids are still screaming too loudly for him to form coherent thoughts.
Nanami begins to form a deep bow, ready to apologize wholeheartedly and to politely ask you to forget this if you wish – he would respect your decision. But just as his gaze met the ground, he’s thrown off balance as you jump on him, soft glossy lips crashing into his.
The screams and cheers of everyone are suddenly drowned out when he feels your lips molding onto his, and he can feel you smiling happily, giggling while his hands tentatively run down your hips to hold you close. It’s unprofessional, displeasing, and downright horrendous to be kissing someone during work hours while the students are watching, especially because his clothes are crumpled from your eager touch and you’re on top of his chest, but Nanami absolutely doesn’t give a single fuck because he’s kissing you back fervently.
It’s what he’s always wanted – you’re the one he’s always wanted, and now that he has you in his hold, he’s not easily letting you go.
“See? I told you guys,” Satoru proudly puffs his chest up in the background, “All Nanamin needs is a little push.”
Request: Mine (Alec Volturi x Reader)
WARNING: GORE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had to stay clear. Heidi was bringing in the tours and Demetri was around to make sure all would run smoothly, no one being left behind. Whilst you could only smile at a few of the tourists who locked eyes with you. You figured it wouldn't hurt, they'd go one way and you'd go the other, completely clear of what would happen next. Suddenly you heard your name.
The voice was familiar but before you could recall who it was, they stepped out of the line of tourists, walking up to you with a smile. You felt your stomach drop. It was your ex boyfriend. Heidi and Demetri both looked at him but said nothing. "Well I'll be damned, I never thought I'd see you here." Your ex smiled. "It's good to see you." You said politely. Although you found it difficult to mask your unease. "Do you work here?" He asked. "Yeah." You nodded. "How have you been?" It was clear he was determined to get a conversation to you reluctantly gave in. "I've been good. Working mostly." You smiled gesturing to the room. "How have you been?" “I've been great. Travelling with friends. Partying. You know me." He winked. You hummed in 'amusement'.
"Well hello there." Heidi glided up to you both. Your ex looked her up and down and smirked. "Hey." "(Y/N)'s considered new around her and doesn't know anyone." Heidi smiled, pulling you into her side. She rubbed your arm slightly. Although you were uncertain if that was her way to say she had your back. "So who's your friend?" She smiled wider, showing her teeth. "Oh he isn't my-" You began but your ex interrupted. "I'm an old friend. (Y/N) and I have quite a history together." He replied sending you a teasing flirtatious smile. "This is my ex boyfriend." You finished. "Oh I see. Well, you only have a couple of minutes, the tour is about to start and you..." She lightly tapped your nose with her free arm. "...have to get back to work." She broke away but kept at a close distance. Supposedly not paying attention anymore but you knew she was keeping close for you.
"How long have you been here?" Your ex asked. "I've been here for nearly a year now."  "Wow. No one told me you'd left. Your mum told me when I went looking for you but she had no idea where you went. She said you had just up and left." You wanted to kick yourself and groan. This wasn't going to be easy. "Why...why did you speak to my mum?" You asked. "I was looking for you. I went to your house but your mum said you had been gone for months." "Yeah, I didn't tell anyone where I was going. I needed the space and time to build a new life here. My...my life back there was pretty much ruined." Thanks to him. "Ah, yes, that wasn't my finest moment." He said quieter. "It doesn't matter now. What's done is done. The way I see it, it would have been worse if I stayed." "In my eyes, the worst thing I've ever done is what I did to you." He responded. You were certain that your ex had cheated on you. If he hadn't then it would be a matter of waiting until he did. Waiting for your heartbreak. Not to mention he wasn't exactly apologetic for the flirting with others, and generally tiptoeing the line of cheating.
When you ended things with him, he was determined to ruin your reputation with rumours about you such as being controlling. You saw the storm he was itching to give you. So you figured if you left, you'd be rid of him and any damage he caused, as well as he'd have no choice but to pick someone else or be his own downfall thanks to that oncoming storm.
You shrugged. "Hey...can we talk? A little more privately?" He asked softly. "I don't think I can. I really need to get back to work-" "It'll only be just a minute." He said quickly. "Alright everyone, the tour is starting, if you could all please stick together and not wander. This place is very big and who knows if we'll find you again!" Heidi's voice rang out. The last sentence received a couple of chuckles. "Enjoy the tour. It was nice to see you again." You took a step back. "Please, it's important." He said hurriedly. You didn't know how to answer.  "One moment everyone!" Heidi smiled brightly as Demetri placed a hand on her back and guided her towards the corner in hushed chatter.
"Make it quick." You said flatly. "I've been thinking about us. How we left things and I've really missed you." You sighed. "I know- I know we had our issues but if we try we can work through them." "No. I think the past is in the past and I want to leave it there." You responded. "If you didn't care you wouldn't have left everything behind." He said. "You know, I have more reasons to leave than you making up stories about me whilst you play around with others feelings." You frowned slightly. "I don't blame you." He answered. "I don't care and I don't need your validation. You made your choices and I made mine."  "You're just not thinking straight. You left your family. They don't even know where you are." He said. "That is none of your business." You said firmly. "Would you stop acting so entitled and being overdramatic and listen to me? It's no wonder we broke up. You do this every time!"
"Excuse me, I think that's enough now." Demetri interrupted calmly. "The tour is about to start." "Buddy... you're really not involved in this and we're having a conversation so mind your business." Your ex said through gritted teeth. Before Demetri could respond, you jumped to his defence. "Don't speak to him like that! You can speak to me like that but don't speak to him like that!" "No, he can't speak to you that way." Heidi said, sending him a pointed gaze. Her hands on her hips. Your ex looked at her. Knowing him, he wanted to snap at her like he had Demetri but as soon as his eyes landed on her, they softened and he said nothing. He wore the same look he had back then. "You know that's why I'd get to angry with you." You said softly. "You always tried to convince me that I was crazy but even now, you have a wandering eye." "What? You'd want me to blind myself? Is that what would make you happy?" He said with snark and you didn't respond. Demetri nodded to Heidi . "Are we done here?" You asked him. "No." Your ex said flatly. You sighed before turning to Heidi. She was about to speak up but you cut her off. "It's okay Heidi. I can handle this." "You make it sound like I'm the problem here." Your ex frowned. "If your colleagues didn't hover around you then perhaps we wouldn't be disagreeing right now." "It's alright, Heidi." Demetri said as he put a hand on her shoulder. "You go ahead with the group. I'll make sure he catches up." Heidi thought about it for a moment before nodding. "Very well." With a flick of her hair she moved towards the front of the group. "As I said everyone! Stay together!" She began to walk down the corridor, heading towards the throne room.
You knew at this point your ex was just shutting down. He knew that wasn't what you meant but everything he'd say from that moment forward was out of pure spite. "You do this every time!" He said in anger. "I don't want to fight with you! I'm trying to talk to you." "There's nothing to talk about. What you and I had is over." "No, it's not." He responded quickly and confidently. "You can't do that. You can't just speak to me like we just shared a ride home." He said, stepping closer. "You and I are more than that, we always have been." "We aren't anything. I've moved on and I'm happy." You responded, standing your ground. "Moved on?" He laughed. "No. No, I don't believe that. You're still standing here and we both know that when you're done with someone that you don't give them the time of day." "I'm trying to be civil and not make a scene." He laughed again, completely convinced. "Alright. Where is my replacement then, hm? Is it him?" Your ex nodded behind him towards Demetri. "No and I don't want you meeting him." You folded your arms. "Or I won't because you're lying." Your ex smirked. "You don't have to be like this babe. We can start again. We can have that happy life together we talked about. Laugh about all of this later. You and I were solid and we can be like that again." You shook your head. "No. I already told you I'm with someone else." "And do they love you like I do?" He asked. You paused. You knew Alec loved you. He just didn't tell it or show it all the time. Not in the way your previous relationships had. Alec wasn't like other people and sometimes that had challenges but you'd take that. You'd rather someone loved you and barely told you rather than someone constantly telling you they loved you merely because they loved the idea of you and wanted to keep you around. "My guess is that he loves me more." You answered quietly. It had been a long time since you had to deal with how your ex was treating you and you couldn't help but wonder if you were losing. Your ex hummed in amusement. "You tell yourself that a lot, don't you? I can see it in your eyes. Well let me tell you babe, loving you is easy." He moved closer, his voice lowering. "I promise you, I loved you more than anyone ever has and I still do. You're hurt. I get that. I hurt you but I can fix it just as easily. Just as easily as you light up my world with that beautiful face of yours. Come on, you and me." He took your arms and you shook your head. "No." You said quickly. Demetri stepped forward but you shook your head at him. "It's fine, Demetri. I can handle this." You said hurriedly. "In fact, don't you have somewhere else to be?" Your ex sneered at Demetri behind him. His grip on you tightened. "Stop it. You're getting angry at him for no reason." You said hurriedly. "Yes, I am because this dude doesn't know when to take a hint and clear off." Your ex said sharply. Demetri's eyes narrowed on your ex before turning on his heel and briskly heading down the corridors, the same way the rest of the tourists had.
"Come on, you and me." Your ex said quieter and softly. "We had amazing times together and we should never have ended things the way we did." "You're not listening to me. It is over." You emphasized. "No, it's not." He said simply. Before you could pull back, your ex pulled you in by your arms and kissed you. You immediately pulled your head away. "You can't do that!" You cried out. However you cry was drowned out by a very loud scream of rage.
Alec was in front of you both in moments and looked absolutely livid. With inhuman speed he grabbed your ex, throwing him to the ground. Alec was moving so fast that you couldn't see anything but a blur. Your ex screamed in terror as Alec dragged him by the legs, down a different corridor behind you. "Alec!?" You cried out but before you could move, Demetri held you back as Felix and Jane stepped around you, heading after Alec. Demetri forcibly made you turn in the other direction.
You thought he was taking you to the throne room but her turned a sharp corner and instead led you to the kitchen. You could only say Demetri's name, unable to form a coherent sentence. You wanted to ask him a million questions but nothing came to mind. "Your arms..." Demetri said quickly closing the gap between you to inspect your arms. You looked down to see red scratches down your fore arms. "Do these hurt?" He asked.
Now that you were aware of them, you acknowledged the burning sensation they left but you weren't even remotely concerned about that. You were worried about Alec. "No!" You said hurriedly. "I'm more concerned about Alec. He was- where did he go? What just happened!?" Demetri didn't answer, simply staring into your eyes. "Let us deal with this, understand the situation better so I can be accurate, alright? Just, let me take you to his room and be patient.” You let him, taking a glass of water with you for Demetri's peace of mind.
Jane turned around to see Demetri approaching. "How bad is it?" He asked. Alec's screams of rage and the sound of breaking furniture very loud despite the door being shut. "Bad." Felix responded. "The human is basically soup in there." "The humans final minutes were nothing less of excruciating." Jane smiled darkly. "Is the human in pieces?" Demetri said in somewhat horror. Not because he suddenly had a concern for humans. More so because humans are basically bags of fluid and if your ex had been even slightly ripped open, blood and everything else would utterly destroy the very old carpets, rugs and walls. Not to mention Alec was currently destroying everything in sight. "Friend, I'm going to say this as delicately as I can." Felix said to Demetri. "That human was very much alive when Alec ripped him apparent and tore out his organs. He then threw the organs all over the room and has since been stamping on every bone. That human is a puddle of mush and then rest of him is across the room." "How lovely..." Demetri trailed off. Although he wasn't surprised. This was Alec after all. "He needs to calm down soon. (Y/N) is worried about him." "They'll need to wait." Jane responded flatly. "It's been a long time since he's been this angry." Jane spoke of it like talking about the weather and not that her brother was completely destroying a room whilst creating a gruesome scene. "I'm surprised you're not in there and helping him." Felix said to Jane. "He wouldn't let me get close. He wanted the human to himself." Jane smiled proudly as she thought fondly of her brother. "That human was in just as much pain if I got to him." Felix blinked. "Alright, what's the plan?" "You and I go to (Y/N) and explain the situation, then we go and inform Aro. Jane will stay here with Alec until he calms down. Jane, do not let him go to his room afterwards, (Y/N) is in there and they can't see him like that." Demetri said and Jane nodded as Felix moved towards Demetri.
"Okay you're telling me not to worry but now there are two of you and you won't tell me what's happening." Your eyes narrowed on the two. "It's complicated and we don't know how to explain without crossing a line." Demetri responded. "Wait, Demetri, can we even tell them? Is it our place to tell?" Felix asked. "I don't think we have much of a choice. Do you think Alec will?" Demetri turned to Felix. You looked between the two. "If you don't tell me what's going on then I will scream." You warned them. The two simply looked at you, seemingly unconvinced that you would. You inhaled a deep breath. "Wait! Wait, hold on little human!" Felix said quickly raising his arms. "We'll tell you just don't do that." Demetri said quickly. Neither of the two wanted to find out what you screaming would do when Alec is already off the rails. It could be those two next for all they knew if you did.
Before Felix could talk, Demetri cut him off. "I'll tell them. You are awful at breaking news to anyone." Felix huffed, annoyed he couldn't but at the same time slightly offended with the lack of faith his friend had in him. Although Felix knew his friend was right. He really was the worst at that. "You know that Alec can be temperamental and is very driven by his emotions when he wants to be." Demetri began. "You also know that sometimes be can be so aggravated that he has..." Demetri trailed off. "Tantrums." Felix said flatly. Demetri sent him a pointed look. "What else can you call this? We'll be here all day if we want to look at this with rose tinted glasses. It's tantrums." Felix continued in his defence and Demetri sighed. "Just as Jane does. You know of this but haven't ever experienced it for yourself. This is one of those times. Alec has disposed of the human and is currently on a uncontrollable rampage of destruction. All we can do is wait for him to calm on his own." "Why...why has this provoked such a reaction?" You asked. "Well-" Demetri was cut off again by Felix. "Because the twins do this every time they don't get their own way or something happens they don't like... usually the first one." "Felix!" Demetri scolded him. "It's true! (Y/N) lives here, they might as well know that when the twins don't get what they want, this is what happens!" Felix said to defend himself again. "What I was going to say is," Demetri said as he narrowed his eyes on Felix in warning. "Alec is very... protective of you." "Yeah but also possessive." Felix interrupted again. "Felix, I swear-" "I'm just telling the truth!" Demetri quietly growled in slight frustration. "Alec doesn't really know how to channel his emotions and his past has very much to do with that. He can't express himself correctly and so sometimes the twins have all this pent up emotion that they don't know what to do with it and...this happens." You blinked. "I can't do anything to help him?" "Darling, there is no reasoning with Alec right now in these states. It's best you leave him be and when he's ready he'll come to you." You sighed sitting on Alec's bed. "Might I speak with you about something for a moment? Something that has caused some concern?" Demetri asked. You nodded. "What's up?" You asked quietly. Demetri moved closer to you. "The way that human spoke to you. You know that isn't okay, right?" Demetri asked. You could see concern matching in both Felix and Demetri's eyes. "No one who ever claims to love you should ever treat you like that. You know that, don't you?" You nodded slowly. "I know." You said quietly. "I couldn't make excuses for him after some time and I know that when someone treats you like that... it'll only get worse. So I left. I told myself I deserved better and that I'd never go back." "Right on." Felix smirked softly from the doorway. "Did Alec hear?" You asked. Slowly, Demetri nodded. “He heard the human doubting him, shall we say? Although he was under control. He was approaching when I left when the human kissed you, Alec lost control.” You recalled the rage filled scream that rang through your ears. That must have been Alec. "Do you think he was worried? That I'd go back?" You asked. Demetri thought about it for a moment. "I think he doubts himself. How deserving he is of you. That being said, he'd hold you to him regardless." Demetri cracked a smile and you couldn't help but giggle. That sounded like Alec. "As I said, he's protective of you. You mean everything to him and when someone disrespects you. He will take that very personally." Demetri assured you before stepping back. "Give him some time. Maybe a couple of hours. He'll calm down and come back to you." "What did he do to him? My ex?" You asked. "I think it best that you don't think about that. It's better if you don't know." Demetri responded.
Once Demetri closed Alec's door, Felix let out a sigh of relief. "They nearly screamed when we didn't tell them. Can you imagine if Alec heard them scream right now in this state? You and I would be done for!" "Now we'll be screaming next if the twins over heard what you said about them." Demetri's eyes narrowed. "We'll both get Jane's gift for that." "It was nothing but the truth!" Felix said. Demetri sighed, walking with more purpose. "(Y/N) is with us now, they'd figure that out eventually! Demetri, don't walk away from me!" Felix strode after his friend.
After an hour of worrying, Alec returned to his room. He stood in his open door way, staring you down. "Are you okay?" You asked before you could even think. "You shouldn't have seen that." He said lowly. "Alec..." You trailed off with worry. After a moment of staring you down, he marched towards you.
Alec collided with you so hard that you fell back upon his bed. His lips were on yours before you knew it as he climbed further on top of you. You pulled back and hurriedly said his name before he moved back in for another kiss. "Alec! Alec!" You said hurriedly, taking his face into your hands. His eyes were a deep red, an improvement from the pitch black ones that met your gaze before but it was clear that Alec was still very much upset, even as his control was gradually returning. "Are you okay?" You asked. Alec swallowed, his stare intense. "Sweetheart, everything is okay." You said weakly, feeling tears begin to build in your throat. "You're the only one that matters." You assured him, stroking his cheek his your thumb.
You needed him to be sure that only Alec mattered to you. Unable to stand even the thought that Alec doubted that. Alec caught sight of your arm and a quiet sound that resembled a whine escaped him. The red marks that streaked down from your elbow to your wrist. Alec began to grow irate, unable to tear his eyes from your arm as he immediately pulled back from you and your hold to grasp your arm. You knew Alec was trying to figure out if he had done that but you couldn't tell him. You didn't know if it had been Alec or your ex when Alec grabbed him with such speed, tearing him from you.
"It's okay." You said to him softly. "I-I didn't even feel it. It was so quick and with everything going on, I didn't even realise what had happened." "Does it hurt?" Alec asked. His voice made it clear that he was grasping at every straw of control he had. All the while his voice tone was slightly higher, almost like whine he was trying to hold back. "It stings a little every now and then but it's honestly just a scratch." That Alec knew. There wasn't any bleeding or even a break of the skin. However that didn't make him any happier about the situation. He exhaled and you barely heard the small whine before Alec pulled your arm to his cold lips, pressing kisses against the scratch. "I'm more concerned about you and if you're okay." You said to him. Whilst you had been told about how angry Alec could get, this had been the first time you had ever witnessed it. Alec's gaze met yours once more. "Kiss me." He said lowly before pressing his lips against yours.  You returned the kiss, without any further questions. When he was ready and if he wanted to, he'd say what's on his mind. "Come here." You said to him quietly and he leaned back slightly, allowing you to move up to the pillows on his bed. He followed and you pulled him into your chest.  "I'm not going anywhere." You whispered as Alec's eyes fluttered shut, surrounded my your scent. One hand played with his hair, the other across his back. Alec wrapped his own arms around you sliding under your back. Every so often he'd squeeze you that little bit closer to him.
Omega!Obey Me characters forgetting a mating anniversary
Anon: reactions to their alpha missing an anniversary? or you could switch it and do reactions to realizing they forgot an anniversary. either or !
Anon part 2: hi! i’m the anon from the anniversary request. i was thinking maybe the obey me! fandom? whichever characters you like. my exams are coming to an end so i’m looking forward to spending hours on that app during the summer 😤😤 i hope you’re doing well ! 💕
(Hey hey!! I’m going to do their reactions to forgetting a mating anniversary, because they’ve been alive a long time, I imagine it would happen at least one hehe. Let’s see~)
Warnings: Mention of sex in Asmo’s section
Tumblr media
Lucifer – He denies it at first. He can’t have forgotten, he would never forget something so important, you must have the date wrong. His response is very likely to make his alpha either more angry or more upset, and he inadvertently blows the whole thing out of proportion because he struggles to admit that he’s wrong. But when he realises that he is wrong? That he was so caught up in paperwork for Diavolo he did forget? It’s a hard pill to swallow. He would probably buy his alpha some expensive flowers as an apology of sorts, but unless he’s been in a relationship with his alpha for several hundred years, I don’t see him directly apologising. He does feel guilty, but he really finds it hard to articulate. The upside is that it’s extremely unlikely that he’ll ever do it again. He’s checking four times every week at least now that he hasn’t missed any important dates by mistake.
“Our anniversary is next week, my beloved, you must have confused the dates.”
Mammon – Mammon metaphorically shits himself when he realises he forgot an anniversary. His scent is pure, unadulterated panic. His first instinct is to plan an anniversary event that moment. Hell’s Kitchen must still be open right? He tries to pull his alpha with him right that second. If that doesn’t work, he starts to panic that he’s ruined the most important thing in his life. This is when the begging starts. He says sorry about a hundred times, will get on his knees, offer whatever you want as long as you forgive him. Mammon is actually a very compassionate person who doesn’t like upsetting his loved ones, so it’s very hard to stay mad at him. Unfortunately, he’s not great at keeping track of dates, so it might happen again. The best thing to do is organise something together and give him a few reminders when that date’s coming up.
“Oh shit! Er, Hell’s Kitchen is still open right?? I’ll buy you whatever you want, we’ll order one of everything, does that work?”
Leviathan – He almost certainly forgets because of some game event or new releases. And to make everything worse, at first he acts like the game and event was more important than the anniversary and he thinks it’s a legitimate excuse that you can’t argue with. He realises pretty quickly after the event finishes that he’s completely alone because you’re mad at him. He turns to tell you everything about the game but you don’t want to listen to him?? He sulks in his room for a while. What pushes him to apologise is when he sees you hanging out with other people instead of him. He growls away the other person, pulling you into his room and sobbing angrily against you, asking why you love other people more than him. He apologises then, desperate to have his best friend and lover back with him. He might do it again, but he learns pretty quickly to just communicate when he wants to partake in a special gaming event and then he never forgets again.
“W-Why don’t you love m-me, like you l-love him?! I’m sorry, p-please don’t leave!”
Satan – He feels guilty, but he handles it well. He is phenomenal at apology dates. He organises the perfect romantic date, taking into consideration his alpha’s likes and integrating them. If you have a favourite romantic novel, you know he’s going to recreate a date scene with you. If you have a favourite restaurant, he’s booked the best table and ordered a bouquet of your favourite flowers for the centrepiece. It’s very hard to stay mad at Satan, especially because it’s very out of character for him to forget a date so important.
“If you want any more drinks, just let me know. I want you to enjoy this evening as much as possible.”
Asmodeus – He also deals with it fairly well, even if he can’t believe that he forgot! He’s honest and upfront about forgetting and expresses regret. He will definitely try to seduce you as an apology though, offering to let you do whatever you want to him. If that doesn’t work, next step is a joint pampering session! He’s pretty good at conveying a genuine apology without making anything too dramatic. I think it’s unlikely that he would do it again, because he loves, loves, loves anniversaries!!! He genuinely can’t believe that he forgot because he normally plans everything months in advance.
“Oh! I can’t believe that I… Oh dear, here come to my room and let me make it up to you…”
Beelzebub – He’s heartbroken that he forgot! He is so upset. He apologises immediately, looking like he’s on the verge of tears, and he asks you to tell him what he needs to do to make it up to you. He doesn’t offer up solutions, he wants his alpha to pick something, so he knows they’ll enjoy it. The only thing he definitely does immediately, is offer whatever food he’s been saving for them to share with him while they discuss. He will likely ask for advice from some of his brothers, probably Belphie (who doesn’t help) and Asmo (who’s slightly more helpful). He may do it again, but he always tries his hardest to make your anniversaries as special as he can.
“Here, you can have my ice cream… I’m really sorry… What can I do?”
Belphegor – He doesn’t think it’s a big deal that he forgot, because you can both just rearrange it, right? I think it’s pretty unlikely that his alpha takes kindly to that opinion. It takes Belphie a little while to realise that a) he’s in the wrong and b) he needs to apologise. He’s not good at planning, but when he genuinely puts his mind to it, he’s actually pretty good at giving gifts. He buys something you’ve been wanting for a while, he might even put a sticky bow on top if you’re upset enough. He gives you the gift while mumbling apologies. The second you forgive him, he drags you to take a nap with him because he hasn’t been sleeping well since you’ve been mad at him. He’s pretty likely to do it again at least a few times, but he learns not to be such a dick about it eventually.
“Oh, I guess I must have forgot… We can just go tomorrow; I want to take a nap.”
Diavolo – He is gutted that he forgot. He organises the most extravagant apology dinner possible (which is pretty extravagant, because he’s a king, very dramatic, and very in love all at once). He gives a dramatic speech about how there’s no excuse, how he never wants you to think he doesn’t value your relationship etc. At this point, I imagine most people would be begging him to chill out and promising that they already forgave him. Either way, I don’t think it would ever happen again, especially because he tells all of his staff to remember your anniversary and always remind him the week before. He isn’t going to let this happen again.
“My love, I will never forgive myself for hurting you in this way. I will never stop trying to make it up to you, even if it takes me a millennium.”
Barbatos – This would never happen. He is amazing at keeping organisational data in his brain, especially data that means so much to him. Also, he can see the future, so, even if by some miracle he did forget, he would see your future reaction and know in advance that he forgot. Barbatos isn’t perfect, but he’s not one to forget important dates.
Simeon – Simeon is another one who is heartbroken that he’s treated his most beloved one this way. He feels awful. He does tear up a little bit if the relationship is old enough. Simeon makes a huge effort to create some adorable picnic date, cooking baskets and baskets of food and picking the most beautiful park. He brings flowers and bunting and a little cake that he ices with an apology in an unbelievably cute handwriting style. It’s very, very hard not to forgive him when he’s so apologetic and good at making you smile. He goes out of his way to make sure he never upsets his alpha in this way again.
“My beloved, I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness, but I will seek to make it up to you for as long as you’ll let me.”
Solomon – He doesn’t care that much about anniversaries but he’s not dumb enough (like some other people on this list *cough*) to think that saying that to your face is a good idea. He definitely tries to play it off as though he had something planned all along and that making you think he forgot was part of the plan. He then scrambles to plan things last minute, and he’s quite good at covering up his mistake. If his alpha doesn’t believe him, he makes up for his mistake with expensive and rare gifts. He will find something special for his alpha. A first edition copy of your favourite book or limited edition merchandising of your favourite media, something like that. He knows the excitement will help dull any negative emotions you have towards him. I could definitely see him doing it multiple times, but if his alpha ever expressed genuine hurt long-term about that particular habit, he would readjust his priorities. He’s not a complete asshole after all, he just sometimes has a hard time pulling his head out of said asshole.
“Here, it took me three days to track down someone who had a copy, but I finally found a first edition for you. I hope you will accept this as a token of my apology, my dearest.”
A Change of Heart (post-”Miraculous New York”)
"Kaalki, divide!"
Ladybug felt Kaalki's light wash over her, the kwami emerging and flying a small distance away. They were up on one of the rooftops in New York, overlooking an interview that was happening on the street.
Kaalki hummed in interest, taking the time to see the tall buildings. "What a grand city." Then, her gaze dropped down and she squinted, adding with distaste, "Quite crowded though."
"There's an interview going on right now. That's why. One of their supervillains was just taken down," Ladybug explained, placing her foot up on the edge of the building and peering down to look at the crowd.
"And, what precisely are we here for?" Kaalki asked, hovering near Ladybug's face to follow her gaze.
"Not what, but who. We’re here to see Eagle," Ladybug answered, pointing at the eagle-themed superheroine being interviewed. The crowd was enthusiastically cheering at just about every answer Eagle was giving, and Ladybug couldn't help smiling at the fact that the person she gave the miraculous to was still doing well.
As the interview came to an end, Eagle's eyes shifted from the interviewer to Ladybug, who had made sure to be where the red-and-black of her suit would stand out; she wasn't exactly the definition of "stealthy," and it worked to her advantage in this case.
Eagle jumped up to the nearest rooftop, then waited for the crowd to disperse before leaping over to where Ladybug was. "Hey, Ladybug! What are you doing here?" Her brows creased in seriousness, and she held her fists up like she was raring for a fight. "Did Hawk Moth come back to New York?"
Ladybug waved dismissively. "No, no, it's nothing like—"
"Pardon me," Kaalki said, making sure she was loud enough to be heard. She puffed her chest out haughtily and gestured to herself with a hoof. "I'm Kaalki, the kwami of migration. Pleased to meet you," she said, her tone forced as to imply that she didn't appreciate being ignored.
"Uh... hi," Eagle greeted flatly, then looked to Ladybug for an explanation.
"Sorry about her. She was my ride." Grabbing Eagle's wrist and leading her to the center of the rooftop, where they were less likely to be seen from the streets, she explained, "Anyway, I came here because I was hoping that I could get your help."
Eagle leaned to the side, curious. "My help? What for?"
"Well..." Ladybug hesitated. "This is going to sound like a weird request, but..."
—————
Eagle crossed her arms in thought, still seemingly absorbing the explanation. "You want me to use Liberation on you? To get rid of your—"
"—romantic attachments," Ladybug cut in stiffly, the word 'crush' and 'love' sounding extremely un-Ladybug-like. She blushed in embarrassment and looked away, bringing a hand up to partly hide her face. "Listen, I know you probably don't get this sort of thing. It's already awkward to talk about it while I'm Ladybug, but—"
"No, I get it," Eagle assured, though her expression was neutral.
Ladybug looked at her in surprise. "You do?"
With a slight roll of her eyes, Eagle replied, "Okay, so I don't get all the love stuff exactly, but Uncanny Valley has her own thing for me to deal with. She always wants to help people; she can't help it. Besides, Liiri says that there's always something stopping people from reaching their full potential. Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's good, and it's my job to figure out what it is." She glanced Ladybug up and down, as if to gauge something. "You really think it's that bad?"
Ladybug responded with a wince, bad memories already starting to surface.
"Alright, wow," Eagle said, hands raised as she took a step back, the reaction having already convinced her while she herself clearly wanted no details about it. "Are you ready then? You know this is only going to last five minutes, right?"
"Wait—" Ladybug blinked in surprise. "You're really going to help me?"
"Yeah?" Eagle replied. Half-offended, she asked, "Did you really think I wouldn't?"
"No! Sorry!" Ladybug rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "You'd be... surprised, by how bad this stuff usually goes for me."
For a moment, Eagle looked tempted to ask, but shook off the thought just as quickly. Placing her fists to her chest, her gaze went firm, showing that she was ready.
Ladybug stood in place, almost nervous at the prospect of doing this. She was essentially taking out a piece of herself, but it was the only way to test it; the only way to know for sure.
"Liberation!" Eagle called out, spreading her arms as a single light burst out of her.
Ladybug flinched, her fighting instinct kicking in, but she held firm and let the light touch her. For a moment, she was frozen, able to sense Eagle's presence in her mind and even hear her voice. Eagle's voice was calm, but tempting, offering the freedom so desperately desired.
"Ladybug, your love has taken over your life. I release you from it!"
—————
Marinette quickly stashed the glasses in her purse as she checked her phone's timer. She had four minutes and forty-five seconds to do this, and she took a steady breath before stepping out of the alley she'd been hiding in.
As she raced across the street, the fencing students were just filing out out of Françoise Dupont. The moment she saw Kagami and Adrien leaving, she raised a hand, raising her voice so she'd be heard. "Hey, Adrien!"
Adrien and Kagami stopped and glanced her way. Adrien turned to Kagami, saying something and briefly tilting his head in Marinette's direction. Kagami nodded at him in response, and they separated, Kagami heading in one direction and Adrien heading in Marinette's.
At first, Marinette was nervous, her worst case scenario being that Liberation had truly failed or worn off when she de-transformed, or that her feelings were somehow so strong or messed up that even Liberation somehow couldn't help her.
Yet, as Adrien approached, she found that she wasn't shaky at all. Her heart wasn't pounding either. She didn't even feel the slightest bit of awe from his presence.
She was normal. She was okay.
"Hey, Marinette," Adrien greeted with a smile. "Did you need something?"
It took her a moment to answer, still stunned that it'd worked and she'd truly been freed of her crush, even if it was for five minutes. "Oh. No, actually, just..." She reached into her purse and pulled out her phone, checking the time, then kept it at her side as she asked genuinely, "How was fencing?"
Adrien looked briefly caught off guard, though whether he was surprised at her acting differently or just the question was anyone's guess. He then brightened, replying excitedly, "It was great! I got paired up with Kagami again, and you know how Mr. D'Argencourt is with fencing, so he..."
The conversation continued as nothing but casual from there, and Marinette almost felt silly at how amazed she was by such a simple thing. It was actually like she was Adrien's friend; like they were on the same page and she could actually hold a conversation with him. He looked and talked the same way he always did, yet she was perfectly fine. Students passed by and maybe tossed them a brief glance, but completely ignored them otherwise because she wasn't acting "weird."
At worst, she was grinning just a little wider out of the pleasant surprise of the whole thing.
When she'd first thought to "liberate" herself of her feelings for Adrien, she was certain she'd be disappointed by it. She honestly thought that she would see Adrien and miss the heart fluttering, the weak knees, and the sheer dreaminess he used to radiate.
But she was wrong. With her crush gone, she could see herself from an outside perspective and reflect without fretting over the things she would've otherwise. Where she thought there'd be disappointment, there was relief that she could actually breathe and not turn into a mess around him. Her mind wasn't clouded with thoughts, and her eyes could drift wherever she wanted without some brainless thought intruding and warning her that she might miss Adrien blinking if she looked away.
She'd needed this. It was nice; more than nice even. Is this how it could be all the time if she truly moved on from him? No more mocking, no more jealousy, no more "crazy Marinette"? It'd be like a celebrity crush that she grew out of; an embarrassing memory of the past and nothing more.
More importantly, she would remember this. She would remember this feeling; the sanity of not being in love with Adrien, or not feeling whatever that emotion was actually called. To say the word "love" seemed so... wrong.
Still mid-discussion with Adrien, Marinette's phone suddenly beeped with a warning message. She turned it in her hand, seeing that she'd properly set the timer earlier to warn her when there was a minute and half left of Liberation.
Adrien leaned over to look at the screen, but jumped when a loud honking noise abruptly sounded off from behind him. Marinette tried not to snicker, but it was difficult; seeing someone else be the jumpy one was quite the experience, and she'd have to remember that too.
Adrien looked over his shoulder at his limo waiting for him, then glanced back at her apologetically. "Sorry, I gotta go. Can we talk later?"
"Oh, sure! Definitely!" Marinette stashed her phone back in her purse, then waved to him. "See you tomorrow!"
"Bye, Marinette!" Adrien exclaimed, waving as he rushed off. "It was fun talking to you!"
"You too!"
Marinette pursed her lips, trying to contain herself as she watched Adrien get into the limo and ride off down the street. She waited until it was out of earshot, then let herself start squealing, even hopping around and doing a twirl for effect.
"M-marinette?!" Tikki called, concerned. "Did it wear off? There's still time—"
"I'm gonna delete all my Adrien pictures!" Marinette exclaimed. "And take down that disaster of a wallpaper!"
"W-wHA—!!" Tikki gaped. "Marinette, when your feelings come back—"
"That's future Marinette's problem! This feels great!" Marinette cheered, having to suppress her excitement just so she could talk. Raising one hand dramatically, she placed the other to her chest, saying to no one in particular, "Oh, what's that? Me, crushing on Adrien? Ew, no way! We're just friends!"
She laughed triumphantly, a bounce in her step that made it seem almost like she were jogging. She crossed the street, reaching for the bakery door's handle and practically singing to herself, "Just friends~ We're just friends~ Me and Ad~ri~en are just good—"
She paused as she opened the door, seeing a familiar mix of blue and black standing at the counter and talking to her parents. At the chime of the bell, all three looked over at her, Luka's smile welcoming and his lips partially coated in white from what seemed to be a powdered donut.
"Hey, Marinette," he greeted. "We were just talking about you."
"Oh, he's such a sweetheart," Sabine cooed. "He came all the way here just to see you."
Luka blushed a light shade of pink at the obvious teasing, Tom jumping in to exclaim, "And he really thought he had to pay us for sweets! I told him, you're friends with our daughter, you better not put a single coin on that counter, young man!"
The three had a laugh together; clearly, they'd been getting along before she came in.
Yet, Marinette's smile fell from her face, a mental 'oh' echoing in her mind.
She hadn't even considered Luka when she'd thought of taking away her crush on Adrien, but it made sense; Eagle had said love, and Marinette wasn't foolish enough to think that she hadn't felt anything romantic for Luka. It only made sense that her crush on him would go too.
But it wasn't the same. The relief didn't follow the lack of feeling. With Luka, there'd always be a little leap in her heart, then a wave of calm washing over her, but neither were there and she couldn't help feeling disappointed.
Luka's smile disappeared as he noticed her expression. He approached, concern written all over his features. "Marinette?"
They were friends at that very moment; that was all the feeling she had on the matter, but she wanted what she'd had before. She remembered his confession at the TV station and yearned for the warmth in her cheeks when he stared at her and told her how much he loved her with words that were entirely his own; words that told her that he loved her as herself and filled her with a confidence she seldom had outside of being Ladybug.
Everything clicked. Her crush on Adrien represented stress, anxiety, and losing herself, but her crush on Luka represented peace, happiness, and being herself.
She missed how she felt about Luka. She didn't miss how she felt about Adrien.
That was all the answer she needed.
Almost on cue, her phone beeped again, this time to signal that Liberation was over. Marinette took in a shaky breath as she felt pleasantly familiar emotions rush through her again, and she welcomed them back like she would an old friend.
Luka's blue eyes gained vibrance and allure, his lips being coated in powdered sugar suddenly became incredibly cute, and she could think of him as no less than the most handsome boy in the world.
"...Sorry," she said breathlessly, waving a hand to assure him that she was alright. "Let's just say I went through a lot of emotions today. I'm happy to see you, really!"
Luka's smile came back, filling her with its warmth. "I'm glad," he said in relief. Then, taking a glance at her purse, which was still letting out a muffled, melodic beeping noise, he asked, "Sorry, do you have to be somewhere?"
"Hm? Oh, no, not really." She took out her phone to shut off the timer, then flashed him the screen before closing the app and storing the phone back in her purse. That done, she paused to consider things, then dared a glance back at him. "Hey... can we walk for a while?"
He blinked, mildly surprised, but nodded. "Sure. Did—" He froze, apparently only now realizing that he had powdered sugar on his lips. He swished his tongue around to lick it off, then started over with, "Did you want to talk about something?"
Smiling almost smugly in response, she felt confident enough to offer him her arm, as if he were a damsel she was leading around. She'd never seen his eyes widen quite so much before, but he also didn't protest, happily taking hold of her arm.
Knowing that her parents would just be giving their looks of approval if she glanced back, she stepped out of the bakery and led Luka towards the park.
"So, it took a little longer than I hoped, but... do you remember when you were talking about me getting clarity?"
After nearly two hours, the elevator began to buzz with life, hoisting up to the floor where Clay and Sapnap lived. The two of you had bonded in the dim, red elevator, coming out of the cramped room as friends when you had previously just been an odd mix of acquaintance and mutual. Sapnap stood in the threshold, an apologetic look on his face as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
You and Clay became nearly inseparable. You found yourself showing up at his apartment for him just as much as for Sapnap. There were even times when you’d text Sapnap to see if he was busy when your roommate would be trying to shove you out the door and he’d send Clay over instead. His presence always made it awkward for your roommate’s boyfriend and while you hated to admit it, it was hilarious.
“So, you do what kind of farming?” Clay asked from his spot beside you, leaning on the counter with his eyes zoning out to watch your hands as you cooked.
Her boyfriend---who the two of you often referred to as Ricky Fitts behind his back---sighed. He had explained his profession to Clay numerous times, but the manner in which he did it was so pretentious that Clay was addicted to picking at him for it. “It’s botanical gardening. Not farming,” he groaned. “In simple man’s terms, I curate a garden for plant research and help to diversify the plant species in the area.”
Clay nodded. “And how many strains of marijuana do you have in the span of, say, a year.”
“I’m not going over this with you again,” he nipped, making Clay look down in mock defeat.
He sighed longingly before straightening up. “Okay, fine. So, hypothetically speaking, how many strains.”
Ricky stared at him blankly and you knew if you looked up, you’d break character. “Don’t the two of you have somewhere to be? Like a cave or something?”
Clay let out a short laugh. “I’m free all night actually,” he spoke, smirking slightly. “Did you wanna check out a cave with me, baby?” Clay asked him, fluttering his eyelashes.
The two of you often rode the bus together; Clay's height mimicking a skyscraper over you to grab at the bar or handle above you and kneeing you in the butt just because you were short enough that he could. That would usually end in you elbowing him in the gut. When you were coming back from class was when you were a bit quieter usually, nearly falling asleep as you stood by him and then fighting off a blush when he would wrap an arm around you just to keep you balanced upright. When he had first ridden the bus, you had completely forgotten what had told him in the elevator.
Your fingers tightened around the pole attaching the overhead bus shelf to the ground, attempting to steady yourself as you stared out the window adjacent to you. The bus screeched to a halt, jolting you forward slightly. The sea of new people obstructed your view, namely a tall figure as he sidestepped through the crowd of people. You furrowed your brows, brushing your hand against Clay’s arm to capture his attention.
He removed his headphones after pretending not to recognize you. He greeted you and grabbed onto the bar you had commandeered, leaning on the bus wall beside you. “Don’t you have a car?” You asked, reaching out to lightly pull on the lanyard sticking out of his pocket.
He smirked, brushing your hand off. “It’s dangerous down there, careful,” he jeered, making you roll your eyes at his lude joke. “Is there something wrong with supporting local businesses?”
Your brows knitted together in disbelief. “We’re on a city bus, Dream.” He shrugged. You bit your lip slightly, your mind breaking off into another explanation. “You wouldn’t be stalking me, would you?” You baited, a ghost of a blush settling over his cheeks.
He reached forward to cover your mouth. “You ask too many questions.”
He moved closer to let someone have the seat beside him, his hand settling to the space just above yours as your sides threatened to touch. You bit back the idea that Clay was following you around, finding a silent pleasure in that fact. He would probably never admit it fully.
He towered over you as the bus swayed, you having to lean back slightly in order to talk to him. “So, are you gonna walk me to class too then, simp?” You mocked, making him shake his head.
He narrowed his eyes at you. “I’m not a simp, thanks,” he answered with a tinge of sarcasm in his voice. “And maybe I will.”
You crossed your legs, knees popping as you bent out of your previous position on the kitchen floor with your back pressed against one of the sink’s cabinet doors. Clay was on his back, shoulders emerged in that same cupboard as he messed with the sink. You handed him a tool that he vaguely asked for, your eyes lingering on his old high school shirt celebrating some kind of sports achievement.
You chewed the inside of your cheek. “Dream?” You got his attention, delaying your question. He hummed in acknowledgment. “How many people have you slept with?”
He was quiet for a moment. “Let me think,” he murmured, making you snicker. “Three.”
“You had to think about that?” You joshed.
He chuckled at your words. “Well, I mean. No one’s asked me what my body count is since like… I don’t know honestly.” He peeked out at you momentarily. “Why? You looking to be number four?” He jeered, a smirk brushing across his lips as you rolled your eyes.
You huffed sarcastically. “Yeah, you wish,” you mumbled, fighting not to blush.
“Maybe I do,” he stated plainly.
You opened your mouth to retort, but Sapnap walked in, peering down at his phone with an unbending concentration. Clay sat up beside you, flashing you a look before Sapnap began to speak. “I have a date. I just wanted you guys to know,” he stated before grabbing his coat off of one of the hooks. He finally looked up from his phone, lazily point a finger at the pair of you. “Don’t hook up. It’ll make it awkward for me and I’m not ready to deal with you guys being together yet.”
Clay laughed and your ears warmed, rolling your eyes as he left the two of you with his words.
After an hour, Sapnap’s words were blown to the wind as Clay’s fingers carded through your hair, his lips pressed against yours in some kind of heated passion to prove himself to you; that he was worthy of being with you in such an intimate way.
You weren’t hesitant, to say the least, and had even initiated the manner as the sun had begun to set. You had been sitting beside each other, lazily discussing your sex lives and lack-there-of.
“So, these three… Do you still keep in touch?” You asked him, watching as his green eyes searched yours for the reason behind your questions. The deep orange rays of the sunset peeked through the blinds to reflect against his blond hair.
He shook his head. “They were all me being stupid, basically. I didn’t really like any of them,” he admitted, making your stomach turn. “What about you? What’s your number?”
You shrugged. “Zero,” you snorted.
He raised his eyebrows slightly. “Oh, that’s right. I knew that,” he recounted as if he were remembering what you’d told him when the two of you were trapped in the elevator. “Um… Why?”
You shrugged again. “I’ve never trusted anyone enough.” He barely bit his lip, nodding in understanding. You cleared your throat. “It’s not that it’s a big deal to me or anything, I just… I’d like to feel safe during it, at least,” you clarified.
“It’s okay if it’s a big deal,” he stated. “It was important to me too at one point. I just…” he sighed. “I don’t know. I guess I got caught up in the pressure of losing it.”
You nodded, letting a breath of silence pass between the two of you. “Would you want to…” You looked away from him, biting back a grin at how stupid you were about to sound. “Would you want to take my virginity?”
He nearly giggled. “You feel safe with me?”
You snorted. “Yeah. I mean, I like you,” you answered, biting back a laugh. The air between you was mellow and easy. You had thrown your awkwardness out the window after Sapnap had left. “I mean, you’re one of my best friends, you know. But it’s just an offer.”
He grinned, a dusting of red settling in his cheeks from the pride he was beaming at you. “No, I want to. I just… I want you to be sure.”
You chewed on your bottom lip. “Yeah, I’m sure. But if it’s too much pressure and everything, like I get it.”
He chuckled. “Quit. I’m honored honestly.”
You laughed. “Okay, then do it,” you stated.
And there the two of you were, Clay’s breath warm against your skin as he knotted his fingers with yours, moaning as you ground your hips against his. You could tell he was holding back for your sake, being as gentle as he could and trying not to crush you under his massive frame.
When you had pictured losing your virginity in the past, you’d always thought your body would be urging you to be thinking of something else, racing with pure terror as your partner got themselves off to get it over with. But Clay’s hands were careful, slowly introducing you to different sensations and testing the waters for you. Your mind was only focused on the fact that Clay smelled like lavender; the scent lingering on his clothes and in his hair.
You slipped your hands under the hem of his shirt, before pulling it over his head. You hadn’t seen him naked before, but heat flushed to your cheeks at the view of him, even if he had pressed you into another kiss as soon as he had discarded his shirt. As he pressed a leg between yours, you moaned, fingers traveling along the length of his spine. His taste of bitter coffee and mint was becoming your new obsession as his tongue pressed into your mouth, grinding his hips against yours.
He leaned off of you to remove your shirt, every instinct telling you to cover back up, but he brushed it off, pressing his lips to yours again as his thumb gently brushed against your side. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone you’re hot,” he joked, making you giggle as he lightened the mood.
“You’re so charming,” you mocked, running your fingers into his hair as his lips pressed against your neck lovingly.
He chuckled. “Only when you’re around,” he answered, making you laugh again.
The next morning, you sat beside Clay at the breakfast table, the two of you chatting about a movie you were planning on seeing later in the day. Sapnap strolled in, eyeing you carefully with his lips pursed. You both looked up at him as if to motion for him to spit out whatever was bothering him.
Sapnap took to the chair on the other side of Clay after pouring himself a cup of coffee. “Okay, so am I supposed to pretend I didn’t see you sneaking out of Dream’s room this morning?” He gestured between the two of you. “And now you’re wearing each other’s hoodies.” Out of the corner of your eye, you watched Clay look down with a small “what?” whispering from his lips quietly. “I mean come on, that one was mine at one point,” he continued, his comments mainly directed at you.
You scoffed. “Am I supposed to pretend you didn’t come back until an hour ago and I know you don’t carry condoms?” You countered.
Clay let out a soft gasp. “Sapnap… safe sex.” At this point he was just the Sophoclean chorus; the peanut gallery.
Sapnap sent you a sarcastic grin, disregarding your statement. “Am I supposed to pretend like I didn’t tell you guys not to hook up and you did?” Clay sipped his drink at this. “I mean, look at you two!” He swatted his finger to point at where the two of your hands were joined together.
In reality, you weren’t even sure when Clay had grabbed your hand or even that you here holding onto him as well. “Am I supposed to pretend like you didn’t do that on purpose so we didn’t bother you for a few hours?” You shot back.
Sapnap’s mouth dramatically tilted, brows raised in shock. “A Few. Hours?”
You covered your mouth as Clay laughed beside you.
Suptober Day 6: Cemetery Boys
wc: 1.3k tags: hunter!cas, human!cas, destiel au, case fic, a little grave digging and flirting never hurt anybody
This. This was the worst part of the job; Dean concludes as he shovels away another patch of dirt. He cringes when he realizes that actually the people dying are the worst part but digging up a grave is a close second.
“I am...never...playing that...stupid...fucking game. Again!”
He hated rock, paper, scissors anyways. Couldn’t they play darts or cards to settle bets? Why do they have to play such a childish game? And why does he always fucking lose?
Dean throws the dirt over his shoulder with ache arms. Sam suggested someone had to stay with the pretty girl and protect her from the ghost of some old-timey creep. So, now Sam is somewhere comforting the college cheerleader while Dean is struggling to climb out of the hole. He just needed a second—a minute.
Fuck, he needed a nap.
He was almost out when he saw someone running towards him.
“Shit!” Dean lost his footing and fell onto his back. Landing back into the grave with a loud groan.
He heard a loud chuckle before he opened his eyes and saw, “Wow. Aren’t you pretty?”
Dean saw the man roll his eyes, but all Dean could think about was how angelic the man looked with the glow of the moon behind him.
“Did I just die and gone to heaven?”
“If heaven is finishing this dig, then yes.” Dean barely heard his words cause he was putty under the voice. The deep fucking voice. “You’re Dean, right?”
Pretty boy knows my name! “Yeah.” Smooth. “Yeah, am I that famous already?”
“Your brother sent me over to check on you.” Pretty boy helped Dean out of the grave, holding his hand out and helping Dean regain his balance by holding a hand to his waist. “Says you were taking too long.”
Was this dude teasing him, or was he dead serious?
“Yeah, well, digging up a dead body isn’t as easy anymore.”
“I don’t think it was ever easy.”
Dean blinked at him, still unable to understand if the dude just had a dry humor or if he was fucking serious.
“Who the fuck even are you?” Dean finally asked, handing the guy the extra shovel before he could even answer.
He watched pretty boy take the shovel and jump into the hole with ease. Already digging when he answers in a deep groan. “I’m Castiel.”
It took a second for Dean to stop hearing the name bouncing off the walls in his brain. “Castiel?”
Cas gave him a slight nod, his lips in a tight line as he started to shovel off the dirt quickly. Dean sat down at the edge of the grave and watched him, enjoying the way his arms and back muscles stretch his shirt, but also in suspicion.
“And what the fuck are you doing here, Cas?”
“I was on my way to this hunt, actually.”
“So you’re a hunter.”
“I thought that was obvious.”
Yeah. Well. “Well, we did all the work already, so you can’t take the credit.”
“I don’t need credit. I just want to help.” Cas was already leaving a pretty good dent. “I was supposed to be here sooner, but my car broke down. Left it on the side of the road, hidden by some trees--can’t really call a mechanic when I have an arsenal in the back.”
Dean jumped in and grabbed his own shovel to help.
“Well, it must be your lucky day, Cas.” Cas looked up at him, eyebrows knitted together. “You are looking at one of thee best mechanics on this side of the country.”
“What about the other side?”
“I’m not so good over there.”
They both cracked a smile. So maybe Cas does have a dry sense of humor. And Dean...well, shit, Dean thinks he likes it.
“After we’re done here, maybe I can give you a ride back to your car? See what I can do.”
Cas was staring at him, almost as if he could see right through him, and Dean wasn’t sure if he liked it, but he sure as fuck can get addicted to being seen.
“I would appreciate that very much. Thank you, Dean.”
“No problem. Maybe that would make us even.” Dean says as his shovel hits something old. He slams the shovel down harder and cracks the wooden box. “Jackpot!”
Cas climbed out of the grave with ease and quickly turned around to help Dean out again. He wanted to show that he could get out all by himself, too, but he didn’t want to lose the opportunity to hold the damn dude’s big rough hands.
Shit. It’s been a while for him.
“Dean?” Dean noticed his gaze had fallen to the other man’s lips. It was formed into a small smile. “The salt?”
He’s a professional! He should not be letting this pretty boy interfere with the job. Since when has this been a rule? Now. He is starting now.
Dean picked up the salt, and before he could pour it out into the grave, he felt a familiar push of something hard knocking him back. He landed hard against a gravestone, his back getting the worst of it, while he heard his name being called out but everything was a little fuzzy. The figure before him, dressed in an old prison uniform, grinned down at him before he took hold of Dean’s neck. It was choking him.
“Dean!”
His vision faded as he tried to fight the ghost, but his legs just went through him. But eventually, he fell onto his knees, sucking in the air before a coughing fit started.
He felt strong arms around his shoulders, protecting him. “Come on, Dean. We gotta burn the remains.”
Easy for him to say. He wasn’t just thrown across the graveyard like a damn rag doll.
Dean followed Cas’s lead without complaint, noticing now that the dude had a shotgun in hand. When they reached the grave again, there stood the ghost with the most fucked up grin that made the Joker’s scars look good. It gave Dean the chills, and he started to feel his body freeze up.
“Cas.” Dean tugged at the other guy’s sleeve. His hands felt so weak, and when he looked down at himself, he noticed they were starting to become purple. “Fuck.”
This is how all his victims were found. Shit, that also meant the damn ghost found him pretty enough to kill.
Cas noticed at the same time and gave Dean’s hand a gentle squeeze as he pulled it off of him. He gave Dean an apologetic smile before turning towards the ghost. “If you want him. Take him.”
“Are you fucking serious?” Dean complained as he watched the ghost’s eyes widen as he looked Dean up and down. “If that dirty hand touches me, Cas. You’re dead.”
“Then I suggest you keep him away from you while I burn this bitch.”
Dean couldn’t help but smile. Even while being used as fucking bait, he could find time to find Cas as cute and funny.
Dean did as he was told, ignoring the way his lungs burned with every gasping breath as he tried to fucking run from the ghost. Like the first idiot who dies in a horror movie.
“You could have given me the gun!”
“Get your own!”
“Ass!”
Dean swore he heard laughter.
And just when he was cornered, with nasty fucking claws trying to bury themselves into his chest, the ghost backs away in screams. Burning up from the inside first and slowly spreading. Then, finally, the screams and remains become lost to the wind.
Dean fell back against a grave, his chest still ached along with everything in his body, when he saw Cas run towards him. He slid into his knees and carefully cradled Dean’s head between his hands, looking at him again. Looking at him like he knew him. Cared about him.
“Dean? Dean, you okay?”
Dean wanted to shove those hands away. He wouldn’t have let anyone take care of him like this, but right now, he didn’t care.
“You owe me, Cas. That grimy nasty shit touched me.”
Cas sighed in relief, knowing Dean was fine. Or at least, he was alive.
“I guess I owe you.” Cas helped Dean up. “Maybe after you fix my car?”
“Deal. But buy me breakfast first?”
“Deal.”
