SMUT - MINORS DNI
-> how the genshin men react when they find out that you, their quiet and shy s/o, has a high sex drive
fem!reader x genshin men
Tumblr media
This dude is ASTOUNDED
Xiao, Diluc, GOROU, Scaramouche
It would come as a big shocker to these guys. Like, where did all of this desire come from? Comparing your timid gaze on him when you two had first met, to the hungry, lustful gaze that you were looking at him with when it came to getting intimate simply flabbergasted him. Yet, at the same time, turned him on.
During the act, he wouldn't know which emotion to feel. To be clear, it's not that he dislikes your eagerness, it's just that it's something that he's still getting used to, and it's also that he wanted to be the one making you flustered instead.
You'd surprise him with a multitude of sensual touches and gestures that he wouldn't have expected from you, and with each one, his heart would begin to race and the heat in his cheeks would rise. (And of course, the heat wouldn't be the only thing that was rising, heh ;) )
And his flustered state would only turn you on further, for with each forward touch, kiss, and lick you'd give him, a gratifying moan would escape from his lips as he tries to maintain his composure. His attempts to keep his cool would be all for naught, as clear in both the redness of his cheeks and stiffness of his cock.
It's so obvious that all of this excited him and he was trying to hold back. So, you gotta tell him to put all of that excitement inside of you instead of holding it in, and then he might bust a nut right there, or he might actually do as you say, quickly sliding himself inside you and thrusting all of his love deeply into you.
Would sit back and relax
CYNO, Albedo, DAINSLEIF, Tighnari
Your high libido would also be a surprise to him but he doesn't mind at all. In that case, he'll simply let you have your way with him when it comes to love-making. Whatever makes you happy.
These guys are generally on the quiet side, and would probably be less vocal during the act, but they'll have a hard time keeping quiet when you'd be touching and riding them. Soft moans would begin to fill the room as you pleasure yourself with his cock, from sucking it, licking it, to bouncing up and down on it. Luckily, they'd have a lot of stamina, so you'd be able to do all of this for nearly as long as you'd like.
Indeed, he's absolutely fine with you using him to your liking, just as long as you understand that he'll do the same to you after you're done. It's only fair that after servicing you with his cock, that you service him with your pretty pussy, y’know? ;)
Ready to serve
Zhongli, Kazuha, KAVEH, Baizhu, THOMA
When he finds out about your big sexual appetite behind your usual demure demeanor, this man will be willing and ready to serve you. He'd be more than happy to cater to his darling. He would rather let you relax and would rather be the one to please you instead.
After all, your pleasure is their pleasure. Seeing that exasperated, hot, lewd look on your face as he's eating you out or destroying your pussy with his cock really gets him going, to the point where he'd probably already come at the sight. And that paired with you begging and moaning desperately for more? Get ready to be covered or filled to the brim with his love for you (or both hehe), for he, too, will want more
Plus, overall, he'd actually be happy to see this rather wild side of you. Not only due to the sexual aspect of it, but because it makes him feel closer to you, especially knowing that you would only show it to him and no one else. It's also an indication that you're feeling comfortable and safe enough with him to reveal this side of you, and it simply delights him that you two are able to grow more intimate both physically and emotionally.
Would be EAGER
ITTO, Childe, Venti
This would come as a wonderful surprise to him. Horny meets horny? That's PERFECT
He'll be a little pouty about it though, like, "Why didn't you reveal this side of yourself sooner?!" Imagine all of the things he would have done with you, and especially TO you already if he had known. He had been holding himself back when it came to getting intimate out of respect for you, not wanting to overstep your comfort-zone or ending up scaring you away.
Anyway, you two would fuck like animals, without any restraint or hesitancy. The moment either of you get turned on, y'all would go straight to fucking. It probably wouldn't matter where you guys are, you two will find a way to satiate your desires ASAP, even if it meant having to do the act in an alleyway or even out in the open (hopefully when there was no one around).
The power dynamic between you both would be quite balanced, I'd say? You two are so desperate for each other and would reciprocate each other’s actions with the same intensity and fervor as the other anyway.
Painfully teases you
Alhaitham, AYATO, Heizou, Kaeya
Oh? His sweet girl actually has a high libido? How interesting~
Well, the truth is- he had a feeling that you had a big sexual appetite as he observed the way you would ever so subtly rub your thighs together whenever he got close to you. Or he might catch you staring a bit too long and hard at him whenever he was shirtless or undressing, seeing you subtly lick your lips, observing the lustful glint in your eye. In fact, he was ecstatic when you revealed the truth yourself. Not only was he right about his speculations, but now he can do something about it.
So! He'll use this to his advantage to make the love-making even more fun.
He won't give you what you want just yet now that he knows how feverishly your desire runs in your veins. He'll torment you by touching and groping your sensitive spots in public first. Maybe he'll leave a hand on your thigh and give it a little squeeze. Maybe he'll slowly slide his hand further up your thigh and begin rubbing circles on the flesh that's oh so close to your heat. Then, maybe he'll begin rubbing those same gentle circles on top of your clothed clit.
And he'll smile as he watches you begin to get flustered and squirm, knowing that he's getting you hot and you can't do much about it. You'd wonder how he'd get away with all of this without anyone noticing, but the thought would immediately be dismissed when he slightly raises the pressure of his thumb and lets his middle finger rub up and down your clothed folds.
By the time you two arrive home, you'd find yourself devouring his lips and rubbing up against his thigh, begging for him to fuck you already. Unfortunately, he decides that he still isn't done with his teasing and won't lay a finger on you yet. He'd rather see you do that to yourself first.
"Aw, can't take it anymore, dear? I know, I know...", he coos, giving you a gentle kiss on your cheek, before smiling and continuing,"Then touch yourself for me... show me how much you need me"
Do as he commands and he'll finally reward you. Dont fret, he'll actually comply this time. The moment he sees how wet your pussy is with arousal even without touching yourself yet, he won't be able to hold himself back either. After watching your lovely little show, he'll then give you the most sweet and passionate fucking that you deserve right away. He'll even let you have your way with him too. Well, only for some time because he wouldn't be able to resist pouncing back onto you after how good you've been for him.
Therefore, after you milk his cock for the final time of the night, he'll hold you close to his chest, rubbing his hand up and down your back, and whisper into your ear,
"That's my good girl~"
Tumblr media
a/n: it appears that I got a bit carried away with that last category, hehe. I just know they'd do all that and more, y’know? ;)

okay post sonic symphony post recap :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1st mezzanine sweep (could see both the orchestra + the singers excluding when they went in the audience at one point) + we were right next to the projector (cool!!!!) and some of the speakers (ouch)
orchestral:
setlist (as best i remember, i wasn’t writing it down, PLEASE correct me):
sonic 1
sonic cd
sonic 2
sky sanctuary
sonic mania
“welcome to 3D”
believe in myself/it doesn’t matter medley
chao garden
“three new ones”
rooftop run
aquarium park/planet wisp
frontiers medley w/ stuff from third DLC
i was so excitedly surprised to see the new visuals!!! they did a really great job combining the new origins cutscenes with gameplay and the timing was INCREDIBLE esp for a live show. infinite kudos and honestly i can appreciate them waiting two years to actually do this since the cutscenes really tied to first few medleys together
conductor absolutely CRUSHED IT dude was very understanding that the audience was going to be Losing It consistently and he made it work. so much love to that orchestra they did a stellar job and im so sad they’ll get overshadowed by the vocal parts (which. yeah obviously. but they did SUCH great work and the conductor did a great job directing the audiences applause to them)
felt bad they had to stop between every single medley for applause but such is life . also experiencing live audience reactions for stuff like the chemical plant zone drowning trap and amy being playable in the metal sonic race was amazing
enjoyed the sky sanctuary medley even though it took the place of the sonic 3k music overall, so much kudos to the video team that was SO cool (AND IT HAD THE FRONTIERS ANIMATED SPECIAL!!!!! YEAHHHH WIN FOR KNUCKLES FANS EVERYWHERE)
the believe in myself/it doesn’t matter one’s are always so sweet to me i love how they frame them using the cutscenes from each of their respective stories + the end card 🥺 now do that for everyone else’s themes!!!!!!!!!!
i’m definitely forgetting at least one bit in there but it was so delightful all around, the new arrangements were so fun, unleashed sweeps as always but one guy near me was SUPER passionate about aquarium park im glad he was happy. the frontiers medley ended w/ the new supersonic form and having not watched that trailer this was the BEST possible way to see that new content holy SHIT!!!!!!!!
intermission: that was the single most positive bathroom i’ve ever been in and i mean that in the least weird way possible. everyone was so so so excited and complimentary (ty to the person who liked my pins and whose fiancé liked the tails one. i like it a lot too :]) also kudos to the stunning wave cosplayer i saw she was killing it!!!!! molly whoever you were i hope you enjoyed the second half as much as i did
vocal tracks:
setlist (i actually did write this one down):
i am all of me
what i’m made of
open your heart
knight of the wind
escape from the city
(new!!) superstars intro theme
his world
reach for the stars
fist bump
endless possibility
(fake out ending)
break through it all
undefeatable
live and learn
the fake out of having only the orchestra on stage and then l having i am all of me just START even before johnny + jun got on stage. incredible. we were all so distracted i have to find a clip of the audible chaos when the music started going and everyone clocked it was SHADOW FIRST. anyway so so so funny they only showed cutscenes from shth . no gameplay. gee wonder why
interesting structure too, compared to the order of the OG one in 2021 (which focused more on ramping up to the classics + live n learn at the end) this order bookended some of the less popular songs (reach for the stars and the new superstars theme particularly) with the BIG names
you should have heard how much people lost it when johnny said “you are… what i’m made of” i’m so proud of you sonic symphony audience. we are all sonic heroes appreciators
oh also johnny + everyone’s clumsy attempts to name drop/imply song names in their inbetweens. hilarious. astounding. i’m glad we’re your knight johnny
^ re: prev i NEED a recording of that it was glorious. if anyone has one hmu
literally two minutes before the second half started i was telling my beloved friend i dragged along that all i needed to be happy was for them to have kept knight of the wind and it was the FOURTH SONG . WIN FOR JAY. 3 of my top fives within the first twenty mins of act 2. incredible
obviously escape from the city floored everyone. i think that got the most people singing but we were all already exhausted vocally it was very funny hearing what lines people mumbled. but it DID have the most call and response, with the biggest songs they would really just shut off the mics and let the audience sing a lot of lines it was so so fun
johnny took his leave from the stage (and complimented + thanked dave vives and also the fandom), said goodnight, and sometime around now tomoya ohtani was brought on (he deserved more applause and did eventually get it)
superstars theme was cool!!!! but right after city escape was funny bc . no one knows it. you go from most singable theme imaginable to everyone sitting as upright as possible and the half that wasn’t already recording to whip out their phones to capture it especially as they introduce it as “the first time this song has EVER played on this side of the ocean” lmao. hope you liked it london i’m glad you took us down a peg
his worrrrrrlddddd we all love it. we were all so tired. also we kept fumbling the lines bc we all like the zebra head version and rappings hard. i get it. video team did a fun job remixing the visuals for sonic + shadow + silver focus sections though it was really cool
reach for the stars really had people peetering out over the length partly bc we were all exhausted vocally and partly bc it’s sadly less iconic
i could not take fistbump seriously bc they had our beloved ian jr front and center for the whole video. it was glorious. they started w gadget for the opening bit and then bam ian jr everywhere. amazing . got a whole games worth of cutscenes with his beautiful face you did your creator (who was IN THE AUDIENCE) proud
good break before endless possibility though
possibilities are endless. ‘nuff said
jk the video was STUNNING and a lot of it was the opening cutscene which remains some of the best sonic animation ever to this day. and this song REALLY showcased how well the orchestra worked simultaneously with the band it was glorious . the use of the werehog transformation scene in time with:
Tumblr media
mwa. stunning choice. and once again damn the band’s vocalist (dave vives) CRUSHED IT. johnny gave him a shout out for being a worthy successor at the shows he can’t attend and it was so so so deserved y’all are in for a treat
around here my ears + voice started genuinely feeling weird. the sacrifices we make for an absolutely wild experience (it’s all fine now though dw <3)
at this point they thanked everyone for coming + the band walked off stage and they turned all the lights off for a joke. me knowing they wouldn’t leave w/o live and learn was skeptical <- totally forgot they had a whole other guest star who hadn’t done his signature contribution yet
“one more” chanting ensued and my bro says he thinks they definitely had someone planted to say that but like. they did way more than one more. no way that was an intentional phrase
the band returned!!!! KELLIN QUINN KILLED IT
it’s dead. it’s dead and gone . my hearing and also the ability to play sonic music it’s been forever changed . hearing those incredible songs from frontiers + a full live orchestra backing up the astounding vocals (HOW) was incredible. this is when i could feel the literal balcony shaking . my vocal chords are going to kill me tomorrow
obligatory “just one more” was undefeatable and ngl im so glad they did it second, the hype up with break through it all made it even better despite them going the opposite in the game . should have used the cooler going supersonic clip from the trailers rather in game though . no one is immune to undefeatable + the extending music video was crazy good
ANOTHER “one last one” in which johnny was called back on stage, pretended to not know what people were asking for/what he was supposed to sing, got the ENTIRE crowd yelling the name of the song, and then and he + kellin absolutely crushed live and learn
it’s live and learn. it’s the perfect end note ft. quinn’s unparalleled vocals. what more do you need
they showed the really funny still shot of shadow overlaid on the moon for the last shot of the video and i know it’s the actual ending but it lingered for like 15 seconds and i couldn’t stop laughing . they showed all the dialogue captions leading up to him dying so i though they were going to show him falling to earth but nah. stock render brain store ass pose
Tumblr media
still COOL AS HELL!!!!!!! they had us congratulate EVERYONE and all the individual band members and the orchestra and im so so so happy with how it went . one million thanks to these wonderful people they did a great job
a couple literally got engaged in the lobby. one group started belting sonic underground on like the third floor of the stairway. it was incredible. the oscar’s could never top this ty dolby theaterrr
absolutely incredible all around . special shout out to: the people lowkey cosplaying while still in formalwear (woman in a beautiful white dress wearing a rouge hairpiece i salute you. guy in blue suit and guy in orange suit you’re amazing. woman in the fanciest amy rose dress i’ve ever seen im in love). the people with awesome t-shirts i am among your ranks we love a fandom with cool shirt designs. people in full on cosplay i am so so happy for all the diversity in characters i saw. the line for merch that stretched all the way back into the theater at the end: what was the theater staff doing that was bonkers. the people handing out stickers that i missed i Will be stalking your online stores. all the people in normal formal wear carrying their plushies? amazing. the world is beautiful. goodnight everyone

I would love to see an in depth breakdown of Stampede’s reworkings of Trigun’s female characters and how they compare to their original counterparts. Because although I’m not normally one to cry “misogyny” but I can’t help but feel like whoever decided to turn multifaceted characters like Meryl, Luida and Elendira into cutesy waifus and reduced Rem to the classic ‘dead mother’ trope has some explaining to do. There’s also the matter of the plants in Stampede being forcefully impregnated via Knives violating Vash, complete with swollen pregnant stomachs, which to me is just straight up, well, cursed(although something similar happened in the manga).
I can’t help but feel like there’s a lot of unspoken misogyny here.
Hello!
Now that Trigun Stampede is over and the dust has settled, I can 100% say that I agree with you. The level of lazy misogynistic writing in Stampede was high. When I was doing the weekly videos, I kept thinking, "Well, it isn't that bad. Is it?" until looking at the entire show and realizing, that "Yeah. It was terrible."
I'm not even going to touch on the entire sexual/impregnation of the plants via Knives by violating Vash at all! I'm sure one could write an entire meta about it and how cringe it is but I'm not feeling that vibe.
I'll focus on the female cast and how they were shortchanged from the original work to this 're-imagining'. I will say that the Trigun manga, focuses less on the female characters. But they are all totally competent individuals who are not driven by the romantic need to marry some man. Overall, the '98 anime was even better by creating the quartet of Vash, Meryl, Milly and Wolfwood. I mentioned it from time to time in my reviews but the original anime passed the Bechdel test. Which on paper isn't a high bar for media to clear but soooo many things fail that test.
For overall female character significance and roles in the Trigun universe (multiverse?) the '98 anime is top. Meryl and Milly play a major role in how Vash and Wolfwood behave and also bear witness to their actions and support them. Yet, they are not weak but instead demonstrate how four people, will have four different ways to solve the exact same problem.
However, the manga has a greater cast of women and cannot be ignored. As you mentioned, Luida and Elendira appeared in Stampede from Trimax and both are great characters. Aaannnnddd, Stampede ruined them for me.
The best way to approach all of the key women of the series, we'll break it down by character.
Meryl Stryfe - insurance adjuster/reporter
Tumblr media
Trigun manga - secondary character. Acts as human viewpoint watching Vash, reacting to the power of his angel arm, contemplating what it is like to kill someone with a firearm. Age at the start of manga 21. Age after time skip, 23. By the end of the series 24-25 ish?
Trigun '98 - main character. Acts as human viewpoint in observing Vash [again] but also feels compassion towards him as their friendship grows. Senior and experienced insurance adjuster both a friend and mentor for Milly. Competent on the job, hard worker, gets things done, leans for logic over emotions. Age not mentioned in anime, but likely similar to manga. Vocal, opinionated, and ready to take on any situation.
Stampede - main character. Newbie reporter for November news under Roberto. Older starting age of 23, yet acts like she's 16 or something. Her character is a disappointment in this version; with her being junior to Roberto there is no senior female in the cast and it shows. By no means is Meryl supposed to be a perfect person (this is Nightow after all) but he does not write cutesy female characters. No female character in his cast is like how she is in Stampede.
Milly Thompson - insurance adjuster/reporter/???TBD
Tumblr media
Trigun manga - secondary character. Strong, emotional, a bit naive but still able to help Wolfwood out during a fight. Continues to be the junior to Meryl and follows her to their secondary career as journalists.
Trigun '98 - main character. Foil to both Meryl and Wolfwood. Besides Vash making Wolfwood change his viewpoints, she also pushes him to think about things differently. Most importantly, she doesn't judge him based on his actions and only shows that she cares. Emotionally intelligent, naive and honest to a fault.
Stampede - next season?
Enough said right there. Why was Milly replaced by lame ass old man info dump Roberto?
Rem Severem - Key team member of Project Seeds/Vash and Knives adopted mother
Tumblr media
Trigun manga - Rem is the mother/moral guidepost for Vash in the manga. He tries to uphold her ideals and moral code to not kill anyone. She told him about the death of her significant other which left her feeling lost. However, a dream about her taking a train with a origin station but no destination created her philosophy that everyone's ticket to the future is blank.
She is an incredibly compassionate individual and even tries to stop Vash from committing suicide being injured herself in the events. It causes him to snap out of it as he put her in medical care. However, her philosophy is impossible to practice on the planet where the ships crashed. Yet for ~150 years Vash is able to not kill another person.
Trigun '98 - The exact same role as in the manga but with less backstory fleshed out. However, her quote of one's ticket to the future is blank is the same. Additionally, the anime adds in her love of a creation song which becomes a musical motif in the anime linking Vash to her and to the present day humans as they try to create a new world. Hence the creation myth song as Project Seeds was to allow for them to restart.
The anime links Rem to Meryl when Vash finds himself lost as she supports him before he heads off for his final showdown with Knives. It shows that a very similar philosophy still exists within humanity and that Vash can continue on with his personal moral compass.
Stampede - At first, we learn who Rem is, unlike the anime or manga. She shows us that she saved Vash and Nai and that she loved them. However, that was it. We never hear her personal philosophy. The flashback only focuses on how she tries to raise them as her own children but no deep moral discussions are had like in the manga or even the anime.
Again, this is a huge determent to her character in Stampede; the series very much went for tell not show. So to try to convey Rem's character through showing when the default was tell made it a disappointment. I waited, waited, waited for her to say at least some version of her quote about the ticket being blank. Nothing.
Rem barely spoke in the scheme of things. Nor did Vash have dream or one sided conversations with her in Stampede which also made it hard to understand why he wouldn't kill.
Elendira the Crimsonnail - 13th Gung-ho Gun/nail producing child-plant hybrid who doesn't age
Tumblr media
Trigun manga - A trans woman and the strongest of the Gung-ho Guns. Truly a witty and fashionable individual with her briefcase that allows for her to pierce opponents with a rain of oversized nails. Elendira's character is quite nuanced, watching the fall of humanity on the planet while having complex conversations with Legato. The two of them are frequently at odds but both see their roles to assist Knives in his goals.
I found her character to be the most sane/rational viewpoint into Knives and his organization. She always has a witty remark or comment and seems to have chosen to work with Knives thinking that this would be the winning side.
After she's revealed to be trans, that's pretty much it. It isn't brought up time and time again, nor does it define her character - you know with the whole ending of humanity on the planet taking more precedence.
Her final battle against Livio is epic and overall, I liked her character. She was badass in the best way possible.
Stampede - Ugh, where do I even start. . . . Elendira appears to be a perma-prepubescent child being a human-plant hybrid. We see her with Grey the Ninelines when they steal a plant in episode 3 wearing a pink dress. So maybe a girl? Maybe a boy? No gender?
But then, when we get the Monev the Gale/Rollo flashback, she speaks to young Rollo calling herself an angel and appears the same age. Present events put her fight with Vash, Wolfwood, Meryl and Roberto 25 years later and she looks the same. Apparently, being a human-plant hybrid makes her inferior to Vash or Knives since she still has to plug herself into one of the glass aquariums to regulate her 'gate'. So, not a plant plant, but lacking the skills of an independent plant. Sort of a crappy outcome the more you think about it.
Despite her age being at least 35 (say she was 10 when she met Rollo) or even older than that - she acts like a child. Gets angry like a child and has not mentally matured at all. Again, didn't get the rapid aging bits of Vash so still mentally a child? Unless I am told otherwise, I'm gonna stick with she/her pronouns and based on the rest of writing for Stampede, they likely want us to see her as cis not trans.
You cannot even compare Trimax Elendira to Stampede. They are not the same character other than the name. They don't even use nails the same way! As far as I'm concerned, she's pointless in Stampede. A cutesy angry girl who will kill you with her gate manifested nails.
Luida - Leader of [un]crashed seeds ship/botanist
Tumblr media
Trigun manga - leader of humans from the Project Seeds ship that had been in hiding with several generations of humans living on it above the barbaric planet below. As events worsen, becomes the de facto leader of all the humans resisting Knives and coordinates with the NML cavalry. Wise, straight shooting and in charge. Brad works for her after the death of the Sensei by the Leonoff the Puppet master situation.
She never really steals any scene but is critical to the success of their plan and acts as the link between the humans from Earth and the people on the planet's surface. Always framed in a strong position of leadership. A very androgynous appearance with spiked black hair, and simple clothing.
Stampede - Simplified to the second stand in mother figure for Vash. She also gets aged up with her first meeting Vash when he was a teenager and brought him into their home. Instead of being older than Brad, she is a peer with him and both of them are considerably older in the current time point. A plant biologist expert - something which is not even close to the role that she played in Trimax.
She also elicits the anti-mother anger from Knives in Stampede, meaning that Knives only wants Vash to himself. No women allowed to be mothers for them! Compared to the manga, she again like Elendira is a totally different character. We don't see a whole lot of that natural leadership and commanding presence from the manga.
Therefore, of this list of key female characters their fates are as such in Stampede:
Meryl - aged up but down in maturity and experience.
Milly - missing.
Rem - dead mother trope. Never said anything to convey why Vash is the way he is.
Elendira - infantilazation to a perma-child.
Luida - kind older lady/second mother.
Therefore, two female characters have been relegated to mother figures; Rem and Luida. Meryl was made less mature to be the junior to an old asshole. Elendira is as far as we know a perma-child.
All mature women with years of experience have been removed from the story. Yeah, I enjoyed the previous versions of Trigun for their killer girls, uwu-waifus, and doting mothers. Really connect with these sorts of characters. . . .
I'm sure you can tell I'm being sarcastic. Thus, I will rewatch the '98 anime, or reread the manga and turn my attention to Kekkai Sensen. Where there are more excellent female characters - shocking! K.K., Chain Sumeragi, Luciana Estavez, Aligura, Michella Watch (a blind woman in a wheelchair took out a Beyondian mad doctor remember?) and in the anime, White.
If Stampede wanted to do scary cute well, they only needed to look at Aligura. One of the 13 kings and a gothic lolita. It takes ovaries to liquefy your boyfriend and inject him into your crush. But hey, it works. 'Cause based on her dismissal of Leo thinking that he was important to her, she's not one to cry like a perma-child like Elendira in Stampede. When one's monster truck, car eating vehicle of destruction causes thousands of casualties, you are pretty badass.

We've all heard of the classic "Asano gets sent to E class" but have you thought of "Five Virtuosos get sent to E class"?
OF COURSE! A Lot of times actually!
In fact, I remember reading a Wattpad story where they all got sent down to E Class. Sadly, it was incomplete (I think just two chapters?) Not sure if it still exists.
Now, if I had to write a fic like that, I'd say Gakuhou sends them all to E Class as punishment for making and losing a bet with the underdogs, therby humiliating not only themselves, but their classmates as well. And since this is Gakuhou we're talking about, it'll be easy to get A Class to turn on them.
So E Class is in for a surprise next semester; same can be said for the Big Five. And of course, it's Karma who finds it amusing. Already, Gakushuu is not going to like this...
Now, let's see how each are going to be like in E Class:
Ren:
This guy is Irina's third apprentice. Not really surprising, right?
Much like Yada, he doesn't want to seduce others with his body. He's a womanizer, but he's not lewd.
He also tries flirting with every girl in class. Kataoka practically follows him around to tell him off, especially when he's going after the not-so-assertive ones.
Yukiko is his most frequent target, so he has Sugino on his case, too.
Karasuma also has to keep him in check. He can also be harsh on him during training.
Aside from that, Ren isn't much of a hassle. He's pretty good at something when he puts his mind to it. He's quickly become an exceptional shooter, but not on the Sniper Duo's level, though.
Him and Yada can make a great duo at infiltration, especially if they've got two different targets of the opposite sex.
Since they're both brunets, they can pass off as siblings. Yada maee up this sob story about them being half-siblings and how their dad played favorites and how they didn't meet until recently and whatnot. All to gain some sympathy points.
Back to Yukiko, remember how she's his frequent target? Sooner or later, she's going to have to tell him off herself.
I imagine this happens when she opens up about her past, the Kyoto incident, and how she's learned not to care what others think and be herself. Ren's surprised a seemingly perfect girl such as herself had a rebelious phase and relates. He's had to deal with his fair share of expectations, and it can be quite annoying. Still, he's at least grateful for the overall good relationship he has with his parents.
This serves as an important growth for the two of them. Ren decides to take a page out of her book and be himself and Yukiko becomes even more assetive and vocal. They even beome book buddies and may occassionally play video games.
Ren's still a womanizer though, just less tocuhy and creepy. He also stops chasing after girls after they've rejected him and moves on to the next one instead. (Hey, it's still character development, right? 🤷‍♀️)
Seo:
May or not be considering Polyamorous relationships because of Maehara. The entire class agree these two together trouble. Gakushuu has considered getting a leash for Ren, and suggested Isogai do the same for Maehara, much to Isogai's bemusement.
Since he doesn't flirt anymore, his relationship with Yada also improves.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: this boy is so damn insecure because he's not special compared to the other B5. In E Class, it's a little worse now that he's comparing himself to those he looked down on not too long ago.
He still looks down on them even if he himself is an underdogas well. Seo does put a lot of effort in training, but he doesn't stand out at anything and it drives him crazy!
The other Virtuosos found their specialty and then there's him...average at everything...doesn't stand out...useless.
That leaves him with his English skills but even that isn't enough to make him feel important.
He really hates it when Nagisa, Rio, or anyone else answers a question relating to the subject with ease. He also gets jealous of Irina whenever someone asks her about a certain word or phrase. Hellooooo, he's right here? Why do these idiots have to bother the teachers with stupid questions?
In short, this boy wants some attention...he's just asking for it the wrong way.
So his jealousy and insecurity gets him on the wrong foot with everyone else. Even the other Virtuosos think he needs to straighten up his act. Terasaka calls him out,
Eventually, he has a heart-to-heart talk with Korosensei, who gets him to be a little more amicable. He also tells Seo that while he may not shine in a particular field, he's still dedicated to assassination and his that work is nothing to scoff at, even if it's not up to Seo's standards.
Seo isn't really satisfied with this "A for effort" crap. He knows the octopus is just trying to make him feel better.
Seo only agrees to be a little nicer after Korosensei promises to take him around the world.
So Korosensei tells him how this dedication makes him flexible at handling any weapon, gun or knife. This in turn, makes Seo perfect for supporting his classmates, which doesn't make the boy feel better in the slightest.
Now that Seo's a bit more friendly, he can hold a conversation with his classmates. He finds himself bonding with Nagisa (and subsequently Karma) over their mutual love for Sonic Ninja. (Gakushuu feels betrayed whenever he sees Seo hanging out with Karma.)
Also, I can see him and Kataoka verbally obliterate others (usually Okajima) for their stupid plans, much to everyone's horror.
Seo still has his sharp tongue, so he has no trouble calling others out on their BS. It's useful for keeping others from getting over their heads, which Korosensei makes certain to praise him for that even if he's a fairly frequent target of Seo's reprimend.
Seo and Itona are another terrifying duo. When they're not roasting others, they're roasting each other. It's a bloody, but funny verbal battle.
Araki:
This guy is all over Korosenesi in seconds, asking question after question. The octopus feels like a celebrity, even dressing up like one (Much to Karasuma's annoyance)
His inquisitive nature and observation skills make him perfect for gathering intel.
He's a nerd so he immediately clicks with Takebayashi, which means he's joined the Maid cafe squad.
He gets along with Hara due to their love for rom-coms. Also, wants to know who likes who in class.
He frequently goes bug-hunting with Kurahashi. He's curious about the mountain's ecosystem.
May or may not develop a crush on her, and turns into a blushing mess whenever he sees her.
He's also fascinated with Ritsu and never stops asking her questions, raging from Norway, to her programs, to her "older sister"
Araki's pretty good with knives. In addition to Karasuma's training, he's spent hours reading articles and watching videos and practicing in his room.
He's Yada and Ren's informat, supplying them with everything they need to know about their targets. Ristu also helps.
Still pretty jealous of Isogai, but doesn't dare say anything lest he wants the whole class on his case. (It's unspoken rule in E Class that you do NOT hurt the Ikemen)
Imagine Seo of all people telling him to put his jealousy aside and stop comparing himself to others. Korosensei is spying on the boys and weeping with pride at Seo's growth...and Seo trying to shoot him down while muttering a series of insults.
Koyama:
Actively avoids the Terasaka gang and Okuda.
His memorization skills are very useful, so he's partners with Takebayashi, who may or may not bring him to maid cafes.
He's pretty good with knives because it doesn't take him long to memorize Karasuma's moves. (Apparently, this guy's got some good muscle memory, too.)
He also teams up with Nagisa to observe Korosensei for weaknesses.
He's also copied Korosensei's weaknesses from Nagisa so they can have a back-up in case something happens to the original notes.
Much like Seo, he's envies of others who best him in his own field, especially Okuda. He can't even look at her without feels rage boil in the pits of his stomach. Doesn't help that she's seemingly close to Karma, aka the guy who once stole 4th place from him.
This makes Okuda is uncomfortable, so they don't talk. Ever.
As if Korosensei's gonna let animonlsity brew in his class. He gets the bright idea to assign those to create a certain chemical.
The Okuda protection squad (Karma, Megu, Kayano, and Sugino) are watching through the window. Koyama's lost the number of times he's recieved a glare from both Megu and Karma, and even Kayano! ("Who knew that pipesqueak could be scary?" You'd be surprised, Koyama 😏)
It results with Korosensei messing things up until the chemical blows up in his face. Okuda and Koyama agree that he's an idiot, which Korosensei takes as his plan working. They actually AGREED om something!
Doesn't mean they're friends, though, but at least they have no qualms working together now.
Another Virtuoso whom Takebayashi introduced to the lovely world of Maid Cafes. That's how he starts talking with Terasaka again.
Gakushuu:
This guy...
He's going to get his father back for this.
But first, he needs to kill a certain, annoyingly optimistic, stupidly perverted octopus and a red-headed moron while he's at it
Gakushuu's got some experience with martial arts gives him an edge, so it's no body's surprise that he excels at practically everything. His marksmanship is on par with the Sniper Duo.
Speaking of the Sniper Duo, I can see him hanging out with them due to their quiet nature. Him and Chiba are math prodigies so I can see them geeking out at math equations and geomatry. (Actually, this may be me being so influcened by Hailey's math wiz posts) Gakushuu would also be pretty impressed by Chiba's blueprints. Hayami feels like a third wheel whenever they discuss math.
Then again, Gakushuu feels like a third wheel whenever assassination is brought up.
Lowkey these two are fighting for Chiba's attention
He has a sort of rivalry with Hayami when it comes to books, and when they disagree on something, they're locked in a deadly glaring contest. Now, Chiba's the one who feels like a third wheel.
Ritsu's another student who catches his eye. I can see her, Gakushuu, and Chiba as a trio. (The other Virtuosos are not jealous.)
May or may not use her to prank his dad and hack into his devices.
Maehara tries to join in their little group, but promptly rejected. Gakushuu can only handle one womanizer, he's leaving the other one to Isogai.
Allow me to be self-indulgent and say Gakushuu would also be good friends with Yukiko as well because come on, those two can realate to one another so well! Imagine him begrudgingly accompanying her and Ren to the arcade. He's surprised to find himself amused by Yukiko utterly destroying his best friend. (Ren has never felt such betrayal)
Same thing with Seo, and then Karma. Gakushuu brought popcorn specifically for the latter's virtual demise.
It's all fun and games till Yukiko kicks his ass at a shooting game. This so-called genius actually thought he had a chance at victory just because he was among the top marksmen in their class. Chiba even warned him not to!
And if that wasn't bad enough, you have the redheaded bane of his existance crackling in the corner with popcorn!
Gakushuu: "Okay, how does Kanzaki manage to improve her assassination with video games, then?!!"
Chiba: "Master gamer."
Gakushuu's butted heads with Isogai over their different leadership styles. He's questioned Isogai's descisions more than once, and while he's raised some good points (Like Isogai not stopping the guys from using Itona's tank for pervy reasons) there were other times some of the Virtuosos sided witn Isogai, including Ren!
He once got kidnapped dragged by his friends and Takebayashi to a maid cafe.
Gakushuu was dumbfounded, like he had been slapped in the face. It made him wonder if he was in the wrong, not that he'd ever admit it.
Sooner or later, he's gonna have to swallow up that pride and admit he's wrong, though.
Takebayashi Arc: All five feel a mix of envy and shame. Here you have a former underdog rise up to the ranks of the elites while they got booted down. It was like a cruel joke from the principal, especially for Shuu.
S2 Changes:
They're confused as to why E Class are so desperate to get him back. Sure there's a prize money, but realistically, they don't have a chance to kill Korosensei. More surprising, is Takebayashi willingly returning to E Class. What the hell?! They're still planning to return to the main campus, but they can't deny they're curious as to what's so special about E Class.
Pudding Plan: Araki is impressed with Kayano's plan and fascinated by all the interesting pudding knowledge. Seo thinks it's crazy at first but ends up having fun. He tells Nagisa what would happen if something like this happened in Sonic Ninja. Gakshuu makes it clear he is unimpressed by this plan, much to E Class's annoyance. Nevertheless, he still participates.
Pole-toppling Arc: This one doesn't happen, so I can replace it with an individual arc for the Virtuosos.
Daycare: You that kid who was snuggling up to Yukiko? He's made his life's mission to chase Ren around and bite his ankles. Eventually, Ren has to approach Yukiko, hair disheveled and a shaky smile that says he barely has any composure left, and calmly point down, where a little gremiln is biting his leg, and begs her to take the creature off of him.
Araki and Gakushuu help out with the reconstruction. Seo too because he sucks at dealing with kids. He's also yelled at Korosensei for the absured punishment, but the damn octopus wasn't backing down because "it's important everyone remembers not to get carried away with their strength" (Seo shoots him like crazy)
Koyama had a small role in the play as wizard. Afterwards, he went to help with the contrusction.
Reaper Arc: Time for the Virtuosos to put their assassination skills to good use. This is the first time Gakushuu takes orders from Isogai without complaints.
Finals: They hear about Gakuhou brainwashing A Class and are determined to take the principal down in hopes he'd stop this insanity. Korosensei has Karma and Gakushuu co-tutor everyone and once again, so Gakushuu is forced to swallow his pride for the sake of his old classmates. Karma does so, too, but that doesn't mean he's teasing his rival after finals. They end up tying for first place. The other Virtuosos are in the Top 5 as well. Seo's sixth place and he's actually okay with it!
Some time later, the B5 individually rekindle their relationship with A Class.
Gakuhou vs. Korosensei: Cue the Asano angst
Basically, it's Gakushuu yelling at father for being an idiot of the highest calibar, choosing to forfeit his life for the sake of his damn pride! He lets out years worth of pent-up anger, eyes tearing up a little, aa he hurls insults at his father. The B5 have to calm Gakushuu down while holding him back from jumping back inside the classroom through the window and giving his old man a good kick.
Of course, Gakuhou doesn't die, but the ordeal was too much for Shuu. On the outside, he looks calm, but you can tell from the empty look in his eyes that he's still distressed. Ren offers he sleeps over at his place.
The experience forces Gakushuu to reflect and sort out his feelings. He still hates his father, but after what happened, he realizes he doesn't want the man to die. Seeing Gakuhou willingly choose death like that makes Gakushuu question everything he was taught about strength.
Kayano's reveal: They're shocked like the rest of the class. Araki feels like an idiot for not recognizing her as Mase Haruna...and then he fanboys over the fact he's been classmates with an actress this whole time! (The B5 are not amused)
I don't think the B5 would cause any change since it's Nagisa's big moment. Maybe Ren joins in on the teasing with Rio and Karma.
Civil War: I'm just gonna say which team each Virtuoso joins:
Blue Team:
Gakushuu: The old Shuu would've sided with Red Team based on logic, but after everything he went through this semester, he's learned that sometimes logic alone doesn't cut it, and you need to take. Also, ever since the incident with the principal, he's developed a fear of losing loved ones (whether or not Gakuhou counts as a loved one is still up in the air because this boy is an emotional mess on the inside)
He understands that it would be a waste if their time if they abandon the assassination, but since he's hasn't been in E Class for as long as the others, he doesn't really feel like his time was wasted.
Ren: Yukiko wants Korosensei to continue teaching them, and Yada wants to be honest with herself. Ren agrees with both of them. He also wants Korosensei to live, even if it sounds unreasonable or selfish. That's what he truly wants. Plus, he wants to stand by Gakushuu's side.
Red Team:
Seo: He agrees with Terasaka that it'd be a waste of their time and year if they suddenly choose to abandon the assassination, the one thing that helped them improve, then what was the point of this class?
Araki: Much as he'd like for Korosensei to live, they have to be realistic. Even if there is a way to save him, do they have enough time to find it? He also agrees that abandoning the assassination is an insult to Korosensei's efforts.
Koyama: This guy didn't have a purpose in life up until meeting Gakushuu, so he gets what Terasaka and Nakamura are saying. Of course they're annoyed with this change in plans. Koyama despises wasting time, wasting effort; is this what Korosensei wants?
I won't go into detail on what each Virtuoso does or how they change things up sinxe that requires a lot of thinking and planning, but I'll just say that this is their chance to utilize the skills they've aquired this semester.
Of course, Blue Team still wins.
Space Arc: Araki and Ritsu guide Karma and Nagisa through the space station. Ren's in charge of getting Yada and Hinano out once they finish distracting the workers. He uses the half-siblings sob story to excuse his "sister's" and her friend's reckless actions.
Valentine's Arc:
Ren recieves obligatory chocolates from Yada and Yukiko, and he doesn't flirt.
Seo also recieves some from Yada and Kurahashi (they're going around handing all the unpopular guys chocolates) and one from Nakamura...for some reason.
Arakis recieves some from Kurahashi and he's over the moon.
Koyama recieves one from Hazama for some reason...he quickly throws it away.
Gakushuu jas a whole mountain of chocolate boxes. He's still quite popular among the main campus kids. Normally, he wouldn't care for the occasion until he sees how some of the guys are eying him with envy so he rubs it inbecause he's that letty.
Also, there's this nice, civil moment between father and son; just Gakuhou trying to fulfill his promise by being a normal, loving (as loving as Gakuhou can be) parent, maybe like a normal conversation, or a game of chess. It's awkward at first, but the two find a way to make the atmosphere more comfortable. It doesn't suddenly erase eveything Gakuhou's done, but Gakushuu feels a little at ease for the first time in quite a while.
He recieves one from Yukiko (shameless Gakuyuki agenda XD) and one from Karma which he promptly rejects. He gets one from Hayami, too.
Final Assassination: Much like the civil war, the guys utilize the skills they've aquired in E Class. And of course they cry like hell after Korosensei's death. For Gakushuu, it's a good opportunity to let out a good chunk of his emotional turmoil. For Seo, he lets himself be vulnrable and allows others to hug him.
And of course, they all get a happy graduation. I imagine when it's Gakushuu turn to get his certificate, the principal gives him a rare, fond smile.
A Class comes to their rescue when reporters hound them again, and it wasn't on Gakushuu's orders.
Seven years later, only Ren and Araki show up at the reunion and they update the others on the remaining Virtuosos' lives. Gakushuu's in America, his business is thriving. Seo's an English teacher at the same school Nagisa's in. And Koyama's popular with the ladies thanks to his plastic surgery.
Also, imagine a scene where Nagisa meets up with Seo after class, who asks how the "assassination" is going.

*sigh* some purring hcs??? Is that what I've come to??? It's just the most domestic thing I cannot--
Aradia: loud purr, but rare. She clicks excitedly and croaks (a result from the frog fusion), but she rarely purrs. When it does happen? Good luck hearing anything else. She uses her purring as a weapon-- she purrs violently around Sollux, and he "buzzes" back. She also takes pride in purring louder than karkat, although she doesn't necessarily always win that one.
Tavros: so so so quiet but almost constant purr. ESPECIALLY when he's playing fiduspawn-- it can crank up in volume lightly, but it mostly stays in the limits of troll hearing. He doesn't click or make any other variety of troll noises as often. He DOES growl as a "confidence boost", though.
Sollux: This man simply does not purr normally. Try as his friends might, they can't get him to. He clicks a lot, and he buzzes sometimes-- he sounds like a bee hive. Many count that as him purring, but sollux does not. He still says he's one of the only trolls in alternia history who's never purred. (He's lying).
Karkat: Poor guy has the LOUDEST purr. He can barely talk through it. It doesn't happen as much as Tavros, but it happens more constantly than he'd care to admit. Because of drone persecution, he can manage to hold it back and make himself quiet, though it hurts a little. He also clicks and growls a lot. He's vocal!
Nepeta: She LOVES to purr!! It shakes her body more than it makes noise, though. Still, she makes it so that she purrs a lot, and basically on command! It's medium in volume, most of the time. She also is a fan of attacking Sollux with purrs. It's to little avail. She also makes a lot of growling noises, especially when hunting and when hyping up her moirial! Her click is less pronounced, but it's not exactly rare, either.
Kanaya: Not a huge purrer. She would LIKE to purr more, believe me, but it's just not feasible. She tries to purr more when in a rocky relationship with Vriska, since she wasn't entirely sure how to show affection otherwise, but she learns to tone that desire down a bit. Her constant clicks make up for any lack of purring. She chrips and clicks and overall sounds like a very lovable cicada. ESPECIALLY when she talks about her many interests or has a certified Nerd Moment (TM).
Terezi: oh boy. She purrs, but it doesn't SOUND like purring. Since she has direct dragon lineage, her purring is a little scary. It sounds more like a dragon gearing up to shoot fire in your face, and it's LOUD. She likes it that way, though. Makes it funnier when she starts and scares away an uninformed troll. It also scares Karkat. Vriska thinks it's cool as hell. She doesn't click, but she chirps, which sounds like a little bird when it's fully up and running. Overall, scary but adorable.
Vriska: Vriska loves it when others purr, but she HATES when she does it. That's why she restricts it to the best of her ability. It's very quiet, almost kitten-like in nature. Sometimes, her quiet purr is shown to those she is close to. Eridan counted it as a victory when he got her to purr for the first time when they were kismesises, and Vriska resents him for it. Terezi personally loves Vriska's tiny purr. Much more commonly than purring, though, Vriska growls and clicks. Many FLARPers on Alternia would shudder when they heard a characteristic "click... click... CLICK" of Vriska's approaching party.
Equius: Perhaps inherited from Nepeta, perhaps there inside him all along, Equius is a frequent purrer. It's a moderate volume, as compared to his friends, and it happens quite frequently. It's strangely deep, though, even if it matches his voice. If gamzee could clearly remember killing him, he might recall a low purr, as well. He gets embarrassed a lot, since sometimes he purrs in inopportune situations (i.e. during casual conversation or quietly lying in his pile), but Nepeta insists it's cute. He also growls quite a bit; he doesn't necessarily mean it aggressively. He hardly ever chirps or clicks.
Gamzee: Gamzee is a vocal son of a bitch. He's not really loud, but due to his constant soporific state, he tends to constantly be purring, chirping, or clicking. When thinking about things he enjoys, that sound increases tenfold. His subtle purrs and various other noises vs his interested/focused purrs and other noises have a very stark sound difference-- had Tavros not been a completely online friend for most of their relationship, Gamzee's red feelings would have been revealed a lot sooner. If he is not making a noise of contentness or happiness, chances are he is growling in some capacity. When he is sober, it seems as if every word is a growl.
Eridan: Seadwellers as a whole tend to have different sets of noises. What is known as a purr to a landdweller doesn't exactly have a real seadweller equivalent-- glubs, growls, and chirps are much more common. That being said, Eridan hates how vocal he is. What is compared to a purr in land troll society would be a fluttering of the gills, which creates a light whooshing noise. Eridan does this. A lot. His scarf covers some of this, but not all of it. He also growls and chirps and clicks uncontrollably at times, making unwelcome noises commonplace for him. Feferi says that it's probably because he spent so much time out of water, but what does she know? He glubs much less, but he still does at times when anxiety is high.
Feferi: I mean. It's quite obvious she glubs, no? It is constant. Whether she uses it to her advantage as a pun or it just happens, that's how she lives her life. She weaponizes her glubs, doing at times she knows will make her close friends laugh. It's not like she WANTS to be laughed at, but seeing her friends smile is pretty great. She also has a very loud, high pitched chirp, which is used less than her glubs, but still makes for an interesting environment. She used said chirps in her life back home, using it to disorient unsuspecting lusii. Her clicks are few and far between, though welcome most times. She also does gill whoosh from time to time, but less so than eridan.

I have a question (i’m not the anon from before). I’ve read around that one of the reasons for the difference in quali performance between Lewis and George might be that Lewis prefers a race setup, but I’m wondering, do we know for a fact that George doesn’t? I mean he seems to always have a lot of pace during races even when he out qualifies Lewis and we never actually hear him say that he prefers a quali set up. Basically what I’m saying is that he doesn’t seem to suffer in the race as much as Lewis seems to suffer in quali (relatively of course). And tbf i think fans are so used to hear the “age” narrative about Lewis that they inadvertently have started to buy into it even if they don’t want to. Or maybe they’re just so used to see him manage to have good qualis even if he pretty much always prioritised race setups, that now they’re wondering what changed (I mean obviously the quality of the cars changed quite a bit in the last years lol but I guess it’s normal to wonder if it’s something else as well.)
No we don't know for a fact. Instinctively I started by agreeing with you that George seemed to suffer less in the race than Lewis in quali. Maybe it's true. But Lewis ended up ahead of George more often than not, so maybe not? Or that can be down to George's 4 DNFs and/or differences in racecraft rather than pace and George really isn't suffering as much.
Overall I had the feeling last year that Lewis seemed to have more difficulties setting up his car than George. Some people said that was due to Lewis trying out more things like in 2022. It may or may not be true. But imo Lewis seemed to struggle to adapt to the car more than him. Maybe that's why he was so much more vocal about the car being bad (or not ; we also had a talk about how it may be easier for him to speak up about this than George).
It'll be very interesting to see 1) how it goes this year and whether his performance picks up a bit, especially in quali and especially compared to George in the same car and especially now that the changes he was asking for were made 2) how it goes in 2025 in the Ferrari and if and how quickly he's able to extract performance there. Like I said it'll be a real test of his adaptability.
But for now it's just too early to say he's dropping off.

Hey CJ 👋 I hope you’re doing well in life.
I’m on the same page as you, when it comes to taking a step back from TWDG & the fandom. And, coming back to the games after sometime & seeing it in a different light. Some things that didn’t click with you back then, makes a bit more sense now.
Also, I’m curious.. what are thoughts on true colors? Steph & Ryan? 👀
Hello, my friend! 👋 Been a while! But yeah, I'm doing fine; a lot of the usual work with writing fic and blog posts in between.
Yeah it's funny to step away from a fandom you're so engrossed in for so long, like twdg was such a huge part of my life back in 2018-2020 with me running this blog, writing fic, and streaming. Now I'm just in a completely different headspace in general, and looking at the games now, they're still amazing but my reasonings are different. Also I talk about the comics a lot, which isn't something I would've guessed I'd be doing. If you go back to when they were announced, I made posts being like "yeeeeeah I dunno if I'm gonna read them :/" jokes on me. I read them multiple times, I need to make that useful haha.
As for LiS True Colors, I actually super loved it?? way more than I ever did the first LiS game?? though I think I might've loved it for the wrong reasons. I don't know, I haven't actually looked into what LiS fans thought of it compared to the other games, but for me it was a "perfect time, perfect place" game in the moment. To me the whole thing was nearly a perfect escapism game; the music is an A+, the entire town is gorgeous and covered in flowers and woods, Alex gets to live in a nice apartment for free [the true fantasy], there's a whole LARP campaign to play through, a flower festival where I've never been so conflicted on who to give a rose to, and overall just the coziest vibes. I swear, I spent most of the game just wandering around the town looking at all the flowers, it was great.
Like if Gabe didn't die and True Colors was just about Alex moving to this fantasy-like small town and working through her issues with the help of her powers, I would've been 100% on board. I didn't mind the mystery, though I totally guessed Jed would be the twist villain given the first episode immediately presents him as a hero who saved a bunch of people in the mines, I was like "Oh did he now... mmhmmm mmhmmm and he's Ryan's dad, oohhh he's gonna be this game's Jefferson-" except he was done better than Jefferson imo. He didn't turn into a cartoon character and his motivations behind the cover up were interesting. He didn't do it for the aesthetic like Jefferson did. And in the end I got everyone to side with me, except Charlotte because I told her to take the money so she wanted to speak out but couldn't, which was honestly fine with me like take their money, send Ethan to college, we'll stab Typhon just fine without your vocal support.
I liked most of the characters, except for Diane and Mac, though I reluctantly disliked Mac less by the end... Diane can suck an egg, though. I don't think I've ever wanted to throw a character out a window more than when Alex came back all bloodied with a bullet wound on her head as she exposed the truth and when she asks why no one's saying anything, Diane just goes, "We don't want to embarrass you" kjlkajdslkjalkjdl LADY DON'T PISS ME OFF
As for Ryan and Steph, I liked them both, trying to choose between them was absurdly difficult. It was like True Colors saw how easily I picked between Louis and Violet and took it as a challenge to create Ryan and Steph specifically to stump me. I mean, soft boy who loves nature, goes out of his way to be kind and helpful to those around him, has a slow build up to being emotionally available with someone he trusts, and has some daddy issues? A girl with pretty brown eyes who loves DnD and LARP, has a passion for music and will deflect with humor, who knows who she is and is eager to help those around her, and who isn't just another rehash of Chloe? They knew what they were doing; they dressed Steph up in as a witch after having Ryan act like a goof acting like enemy creatures, they were made for me.
Having done both routes, I do prefer Steph. I adore her and Alex together, but Alex and Ryan are super cute, too.
It's not a perfect game and there are issues in the writing but honestly, I don't care. I had a good time. I was engaged. I looked at every single flower and kissed a pretty girl so good that the world exploded. What a great game.

hello it's your secret rocker santa again! so sorry it's taken me a few days to respond - you are right on when you say this time of year is hectic! hopefully you'll get some time to relax and enjoy things too?
ok so i confess i am only familiar with ELO's big hits like don't bring me down, livin thing, mr. blue sky (and i think sweet talkin woman and some other songs were played on something i watched recently and i yelled out ELO!). i understand about the song v. album recommendation, as i am pretty much an album listener as well. my spotify wrapped thing said so, so you know it's true!
i listened to eldorado at lunch this week and i really liked it! i liked the blend of classical music and how lush the sound was. i also listened to out of the blue and liked it a lot! i think starlight was my favorite track, but i also liked across the border - it had a sound that was a little reminiscent of one of my favorite beach boys songs, heroes and villains. anyway thank you for the recommendations, i was very happy to listen to full albums!
this may seem like the most obvious question, but how did you get into jeff lynne and ELO? what appeals to you most about him as an artist?
hope you have had a good week so far!!
hiiiii!!! it's okay!! it's a busy time :') i don't even have that much going on atm and it still seems to be hectic haha. but yesss so far it's been a really nice Holiday Season™ :-) i hope you're enjoying it too!! are there any seasonal activities you usually do this time of year??
i'm glad you like eldorado!! i have a hard time choosing favorites, but it's a strong contender for my favorite album of all time...at least like, tied with 3-4 others haha. i also think it's perfect for fall (and winter tbh!) so i'm usually particularly in the mood for it around this time of year. and YES across the border is one of my favorites!! it gets compared to heroes and villains quite a bit, which i definitely understand; they have really similar vibes overall
hmmmmm well!!! i was more or less always aware of ELO (i was pretty much raised as a 70s music enjoyer) but it just kind of gradually evolved into madness over time for me. out of the blue was the first full ELO album i listened to and i was kind of instantly obsessed with it :') otherwise!!! i don't even know where to begin tbh. i looove his voice (i always feel like his voice/vocal ability is somewhat underappreciated tbh. he's very versatile lmao) and just??? his overall Sound = happiness to me at this point :') it's just so deeply ingrained in my life i don't even know how to describe exactly what it is for me haha. generally though, there's a certain Zestiness that a lot of the 70s ELO songs have that i just love (and that's basically what initially hooked me), BUT i'm also really attached to the newer sound as well. idk!!! i truly like it all so it's hard to describe very specifically lmao
anyway :-) sorry for taking awhile to reply again!! hope ur having a good weekend!!

✨My Optimal Qualifier List for Semifinal 2, with commentary✨
This is all personal taste 💙
Armenia- Future Lover
A unique song with beautiful and relatable lyrics, varying intensity, and great potential for staging. She has a beautiful voice and I just love the song a lot the contrast between dreams and reality and wanting and understanding just hits me
Slovenia- Carpe Diem
A catchy catchy bop, takes me back to a lot of classic pop songs from my childhood. These guys are so charismatic and fun on stage they’re a joy to watch and listen to and they sound great I think they can avenge LPS
Austria- Who the Hell is Edgar?
POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE POE
Love the energy and playfulness of the song while bringing up an issue with how artists are not often really paid for their work plus Poe is the name of my cat. Love their voices and synergy
Georgia- Echo
Y’know, as a person with auditory processing issues, this is what the vast majority of songs sound like to me anyway. I didn’t even notice at first the weirdness with the lyrics, but even now I don’t really mind??? She sounds amazing and really takes over the stage and that presence is important to me in a eurovision act plus not to be pretentious but the imperfect English actually makes me like it more tbh we ESL speakers can brutalize this language a little bit, as a treat
Estonia- Bridges
Bridges might not be popular with a lot of folks this year but it is a very strong ballad and she has so much emotion and I love it. The staging will heavily affect her success I think, but I love the self playing piano and sing along every time I hear it
Australia- Promise
They have extremely powerful dad rock energy and I love it. Love their confidence and comfort on the stage, great performers with a song I like. Little bit generic feeling compared to some previous Australian entries but I look forward to their performance and staging
Albania- Duje
Every year where Albania sends a woman with incredible vocals and traditional instruments is a win in my book. Do I think it will do well with the rest of Europe? No. Do I love their entry every year? Absolutely. I love this song and I think it’s cute to have a family up there together
Greece- What They Say
Okay I actually hated this song at first lol, but after hearing the lyrics clearly it’s resonated more with me and the song grew on me overall. Staging will definitely have to be elevated a bit and the delivery should give more than just teen angst. I realized after someone else pointed it out too, that I’ve been watching this competition longer than he’s been alive, so I’m cutting him some slack
This is where I’m less so picking acts I like and more just ones I would prefer over the remaining ones
:/ sorry
Belgium- Because of You
Formal apology to my fellow El Gee Bee Tees, but I’m not crazy about this song. The message is beautiful and it’s fun and bright and a strong entry with great vocals and energy, but it does start to annoy me after a while so it’s low on my list. I do prefer it vastly over my non-qualifiers, but I’m not super attached to it
And I honestly can’t pick a final qualifier between
Iceland- Power
I love the energy and message of Power, but I agree that it would’ve been better in Icelandic and the music just doesn’t catch me. Mad respect for all the dancing and singing though which is what makes it a qualifier to me
Cyprus- Break a Broken Heart
Break a broken heart is cliché. But, I am a sucker for elemental imagery and I think if the staging and performance elevates it it’ll mean more to me. In rehearsals his voice was actually really good, so if he keeps a strong stage presence I think it can balance out the lacklustre lyrics
If you like my Eurovision commentary let me know and I can continue to spill my brainworms lol

Alright so I decided to torture myself fully listen to Viva Las Vengeance and give my two cents on it.
I indicated which songs I was listening to for the first time by putting an asterisk (*) next to the title
Just a little disclaimer: these are just my silly opinions, so please take them with a grain of salt.
Viva Las Vengeance
bro is trying to be like freddie mercury
his vocals don’t really match the music
this is kinda like a mix of vices & virtues and doab but in a weird way
what the fuck was that high note at the end he was clearly straining his voice
Middle Of A Breakup
these lyrics make no sense
like wtf is “keep your disco, gimme T-rex” ?????
again his voice doesn’t really match the music itself
this??? kinda sounds too much like viva las vengeance to me idk
Don’t Let The Light Go Out*
he sounds??? out of breath???
“you’re the only one who knows how to operate my heavy machinery” this line wouldn’t be that bad if it wasn’t sung so high compared to everything else
this song isn’t that bad actually
Local God
homie pls stop dissing ryan ross for no reason it’s been several years since you last talked him
oh no his voice doesn’t match the music again
help the verses and the chorus sound like two different songs like they don’t match
so what if ryan is way less known than brendon; ryan will always be superior <3
i do not like this song at all
Star-Spangled Banger*
“hOme oF tHe fREaKs”
what the fuck this shit is not a banger
again the verses do not match with the vibes from the chorus
oh my god his high notes are like nails scratching on a chalkboard
this song feels like a hate crime /j
homeboy is straining his voice A LOT here
God Killed Rock and Roll*
dollar store bohemian rhapsody
again his high notes are so obnoxious and out of place
i really have nothing else to say about this song
like it’s not bad but it’s not good either
Say It Louder*
“for the people in the back, back, back🥴”
this is kind of a bop tbh
i think i only said that because it doesn’t sound like he’s straining his voice for once
Sugar Soaker*
“you’re a car, you’re a woman, you’re a drug” ????????
i can vibe with this one,,, i think
“come on come come on coME ON COME ON”
Something About Maggie*
who tf is Maggie
“LeT hiM gOoooOo” please stop hitting high notes please
“makes me want to slit my wristssssss” bro is trying to be eDgY
why is he stressing the S’s so much
straining his voice again especially in the second verse
what was with that random beat change towards the end??? idk i found that weird
Sad Clown*
oh look he’s becoming self aware🤡
voice doesn’t make the music again
the high notes😬
seriously who is Maggie??? and Gloria??
this song is overwhelming me and not in a good way
BRUH I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD WHY DOES HE KEEP CHANGING THE TEMPO OF THESE SONGS OUT OF NOWHERE LIKE THIS IS GETTING TO BE ANNOYING
All by Yourself*
“you sweet little kitten” im going to yeet myself off a bridge
i thought i was listening to panic at the disco not celine dion’s “all by myself”
straining his voice for the 463738th time
this song is kinda boring tbh
Do It To Death*
don’t know how to feel about this either
i mean it kinda sounds similar to viva las vengeance
that high note gave me a mini headache
ooooh wow nostalgia from pftw with the orchestra at the end
what did we just go full circle because now he’s singing shut up and go to bed
My Final Thoughts
I had a feeling that I wasn’t going to like this album, and I was right. Brendon’s voice just isn’t as good as it was before. If he wasn’t constantly straining his voice, then maybe this album would’ve been slightly more tolerable. I’ll admit, though, that there are a few songs that I enjoyed (Sugar Soaker, Don’t Let The Light Go Out, & Say It Louder). But all the other songs sounded so off-key and messy to me. Overall the lyrics were boring and unoriginal. Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed with this album. I mean, I wasn’t expecting much from it, but it was way worse than I thought it would be.
Again, this is just my opinion on Viva Las Vengeance. I don’t mean to offend anyone who likes this album; if you like it, then that’s completely fine.

unpopular opinion- rossi gets more hate than jj and jj deserves it way more than rossi
hmm i tentatively agree with this. rossi has a lot of problems of his own: he’s played by a horrible actor, his mob/military background is boring as shit, he’s a misogynist (he’s gotten better but im p sure thats just him getting milder in his old age) and oh yeah he’s fucking racist aljdlajd so its hard for me to straight up say he doesnt deserve the hate he gets
that being said i feel like people arent necessarily mad at him for the right reasons? like i barely hear anyone talk ab any of the above, mostly its that he’s just mean to reid. which… i mean he’s not not mean to reid. but if we’re comparing apples to apples, i think he’s not nearly as bad as jj in that sense. it may just be a matter of personal opinion: i happen to think his jokes land better and overall his humor seems to come from a better place. it feels like he jokes around for the sake of the joke bc he sees an opportunity to be funny, as opposed to jj who seems to be making fun of reid as a way to seek validation from others that she’s better than him
this may just be me finding a snarky old man less threatening than a blonde haired blue eyed mean girl, but idk there just seems to be a difference between “we found him on the steps of the fbi” and the annoyed faces jj makes every time reid speaks. one is clearly a joke, obviously an exaggeration, and spoken with a bemused fondness. the other plays into reid’s insecurities, is only meant to be funny to others, and comes from genuine annoyance. this is just the energy i get from them, but idk how my many years of anti jj bias plays into the interpretation of their actions
i guess its bc, as much as rossi makes fun of reid, they’re backhanded compliments more than anything and unlike jj he’ll actually give reid credit (showing him off to his friend w the crossword puzzles). he acknowledges reid’s strengths even as he puts him down, while jj seems to tolerate him. i think rossi plays the grumpy grandpa role well, and it works bc he doesnt take himself to seriously either. he can take a joke when jj would just get defensive
but that confidence is also part of whats frustrating about him. he’s frequently wrong and stuck in the old ways, but still feels justified and a sense of pride. jj rejects her roots (she doesnt do it well, but at least she’s vocal ab her disappointment w her childhood) but rossi frequently reminisces ab “the good ol days” whether its back in his early bau days w gideon, back in his days w the military, back in his days w his mob buddies, or back when he was growing up in general. jj doesnt like to admit she’s wrong bc she’s defensive and has an inferiority complex. rossi doesnt like to admit he’s wrong bc, more often than not, he still thinks he’s right
personally i agree w u bc i find jj way more annoying. ive also grown weary of the fandom pretending she’s an angel when i have yet to hear anyone point out any redeeming qualities she may have (spoiler alert: there are none). meanwhile i dont really hear anyone talk positively ab rossi… not that he deserves it at all aldhakhd its just makes it more obvious that people like jj for no reason. ultimately it is just a matter of opinion, i just dont think many people bother defending rossi so its less irritating when he clearly does something wrong. pointing out jj’s flaws feels like an uphill battle against people plugging their ears, digging their heels, and pretending she’s perfect.
ultimately rossi is just a goofy old man set in his ways, and its hard to blame him for that. hate to use such an overused word, but he’s just a boomer aldhskhc and on the boomer scale he’s not that bad akdhkshd. but jj is young. part of being young is learning to grow from your mistakes. she’s not even willing to admit she makes any. i think thats why its harder for me to forgive her akdhskh which may not be fair: rossi gets the “he doesnt know any better” excuse from the “cant teach an old dog new tricks” cliche (as problematic as it is). jj is far more stubborn and abrasive, which is less forgivable when she’s still supposed to be growing as a person. she’s stunting her own growth and idk if she could ever admit it

OK HERE WE GO-
So, this train of thought was spurred on by one small realization: "Huh. MX Never says the "Innocence Doesn't Get You Far" line in the recent demos." And that may seem really unimportant at first but oh boy did it lead me down a rabbit hole.
So, MX's recent characterization has been rather... Befuddling to me. Not something explicitly bad, but rather something I'm simply a bit confused by. So, let's get some bullet points.
Current MX doesn't threaten or do anything scary to Lucas until sort of tricking him to starting the chase.
The way he talks feels very... condescending? Fake? It's hard to describe, but it just feels put on. "Hey there Champ! I left ya a lil something at the beginning of the level. It's a big surprise!" It's just odd to me, in a good way.
He screams more. Quite a lot more. "Lucas!" At the start of the chase, "You aren't gettin' far, Kid!" midway though, he's more vocal overall.
Now, let's compare this to Old MX...
Instead of calling out to Lucas to "Find Him" in his faker form, MX simply calls out his name, in a tone that sounds like he's trying to get his attention.
Instead of getting Lucas to have a head start with a sort of trick, Old MX just transforms completely and brutally and effortlessly murders a toad in his line of sight, before the game warns you to run.
His only lines are "Innocence Doesn't Get You Far", "WAHOOO!", "Get back here!", him calling out for Lucas, and his Lil Monologue at the end.
I could go into more detail, but, from all of this, it seems a bit clear that the character has changed a lot over time, right?
...Right?
...Well, apparently not. Because current MX still has old MX's ending Monologue, but without any of the character to back it up. It's something I've noticed where people don't realize that every single thing a character does is important for their identity and tells you who they are, not just the big speeches or moments dedicated to them. That fact is something I think EYX and OMT both understand, which is part of why I love them so much.
It's so odd, seeing this very vocal and upfront entity of Current MX get very clearly angry after getting out ran by Lucas, especially after yelling at the top of his lungs, only to suddenly start waxing poetic about the game, compared to the Quiet, imposing, brutal entity that was Old MX clearly still wanting to catch Lucas, but being much less personally invested in the matter. (And this is small but old MX's more eloquent than New MX most of the time so them sharing the ending monologue makes that tiny bit of less but that's not as important)
Just some thoughts that were in my head.
TL;DR - Innocence Doesn't Get You Far is a sick ass line.
I understand what you’re saying. It seems like the original version of MX was a bit more subtle (if that’s the right term) with his horror. Not as loud and giving Lucas a sense of false hope by giving him a head start before starting the chase.
The new version seems to be more of a brute by being more loud and showing off how dangerous he is by brutally murdering a Toad in front of Lucas.

Well, the lack of Risotto getting pegged is bad, we need to fix that, so if you can write something about it, that would be nice~
Bonus if its the first time it happends because having this big man trusting you into fucking him its pretty hot 👉👈💓
-Pastel Anon
Can I offer you some headcanons in these trying times? I've got u Pastel Anon~
Tumblr media
✂ Head canons of pegging Risotto for the first time under the cut:
It's actually Risotto that comes to YOU about it--
Let's say you've given Risotto a few prostate massages before while going down on him, and he came like a freight train liked that a lot, so now he's curious about going further. Your hands and fingers aren't anywhere near the size of his, so he assumes a nice middle ground before using a dildo would be his own fingers to see if he'll enjoy something bigger and longer than your fingers.
The next day after he does that he's trying to figure out how to ask you to dick him down without seeming needy about it. Risotto is very aware people have certain expectations of him because of his status as capo and his overall appearance, so he thinks he has to act a certain way for the people who rely on his leadership. He’s worried you’ll see him as less capable or worse, make fun of him.
Realizes he's over thinking things (like usual) and knows you'd never do that, it's the insecurities he prefers to keep buried deep trying to dissuade him from being vulnerable. When he finally gets the courage and tells you and you simply ask if he's looked at any dildos yet to figure out what his preferences are, he lets out a mental sigh of relief. Of course he didn't have any reason to worry.
So you sit down together and browse online for sex toys. Risotto is far from virginal or inexperienced, but it's little overwhelming just how much variety there is. You end up buying a couple of things, maybe a few too many.
After everything's finally been set up and you're both ready and about to get to it you still check on him to let him know he can back out of this if he wants, no questions asked.
But that just cements Risotto’s desire to do this. You care for him and treat him like a person, more than anyone else in his life ever has. He'll be shy to admit it, but he trusts you and knows you'll take good care of him. He wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else. (Try not to cry when he tells you all of that, he so rarely opens up so much all at once.)
You choose a reasonably sized strap for someone as big as he is, so he's already going cross-eyed from how good it feels and you're barely halfway inside. When you bottom out he's chewing his lip so damn hard because he doesn't wanna be loud. Something akin to pride is causing him to hold back his noises. Though once you find his prostate and he makes a sharp little gasp of pleasure, bucks back into your strap, all bets are off.
Fuck him through the mattress and make him break. But in a good way. Don't be afraid to be rough. Pull his hair, press against his back to make him arch his ass into your strap some more, drag your nails down his chest and play with his nipples. Leave some nice deep claw marks on his hips as you give him the ride of his life so he’ll have something to remember this occasion for a long while. (Don’t forget to give his cock some well deserved attention too~)
He's drowning in sensations at this point and if he whines begs demands for you to go faster & harder then you better damn well do it! Whatever position you're fucking him in he’ll end up a gasping, drooling mess, big hands twisting the sheets so hard. Don’t be surprised if he ends up shredding them.
Even still Risotto might not be loud in the ‘normal’ sense, but he is more vocal than he ever has been before. The soft little ‘ah’s’ that spill out with every thrust inside and the breathy exhale of your name is a fucking symphony compared to the stilted grunts and stifled moans he usually tries to keep back.
Risotto will end up getting shy again when he's close to his orgasm but just reassure him that he's doing so good for you. It's only you here and you want him to feel good, he doesn't have to hold back or hide his face. Risotto can just be and completely let go. The intimacy of that alone will make him moan out the loudest of the night and he’ll blow his load all over the sheets/himself.
If you enjoyed it as much as he did and you’re okay with it, expect this become a part of your sex life once in a while. Especially when he’s getting really stressed out. He’ll be comfortable being more vocal about his sexual needs and making noises in bed in general, too.

Ok mc is still unused to devil Dom and the house and the boys so they usually wake up in the middle of the night, if they even sleep at all the first few weeks. Just them their thought a hot cup o any beverage on the big chair in the library at 2 am just lost and a little sad.. who would find them first how would they react? I just had this idea in my had for such a long time and!!!! Sorry but I positively love your works so much!!
Just pretend that Belphie wasn’t locked up and he was there in the start of the game, ok? Ok.
Thank you! And this is so sweet I’m loving it :,)
Brothers Reaction to Newly Acquainted MC Sitting Alone At Night
You’d woken up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night for the third time this week, hyperventilating after the nightmare you’d just endured. You check your surroundings but quickly realise that you weren’t in your room, but in the room you were assigned to when you were dragged to the Devildom against your will. You sigh and hold your head in your hands, desperately trying to shake away the irrational fear you’d embedded deep inside of you the past few nights. You knew you weren’t going to be sleeping tonight so you decide to get up and go grab a hot drink and sit in the huge chair you saw in the library when you walked past with that demon. When you’d finished making your drink and sat down in the chair, ready to start drinking it, you hear the floor boards creak from across the room...
——————————————
Lucifer
Seeing the eldest of the brothers in the middle of the night wasn’t exactly the most comforting situation to be in, but you composed yourself as best as you can when he spotted you and walked in to the room, sitting down dangerously close to you. Lucifer stares at you questioningly, wondering why you were up so late. He was going to say something but felt, since you’re new here, it may stress you, so he kept quiet.
Time passed and you two were still sat in silence, awkwardly sipping on your now lukewarm drink. You wanted so badly to just get up and leave but God, he had a presence that made you stiff. You thought you were about to lose it until he finally spoke, breaking the painful silence around you. He told you softly that if something was troubling you, that he would try and help, his eyes glistening in the ray of moonlight from the open window, making him look like an angel, causing you to feel much more relaxed. You nod politely and go back to drinking your drink, his gaze still locked on you, but now, it felt more comfortable. He went on to talk about Diavolo’s plans for the future and how you were helping them get there, reminding you how grateful he is to have you here. It was a nice thought, honestly.
Hearing such soothing words from him calmed you down, overall, and you both talked about music and hobbies. He wasn’t such a bad presence in the end, and his smile still makes you feel safe whenever you think about it.
Mammon
The demon you knew to be Mammon walked into the room with a surprised look on his face. Obviously you wasn’t the person he was wanting to see at 2 in the morning... Ever since you first lay eyes on him, you knew he was the more eccentric brother, as he quickly became quite vocal and perhaps even comfortable in your presence?
He marched towards you straight away, your paranoia rising as you wonder what he was going to do. But instead of all these awful things you’d thought up in your head, he stopped in front of you and started telling you how late it is, calling you foolish. You thought you saw concern flash in his eyes for a brief second as he was nagging you though. He sighed and shrugged, realising that you may just be overwhelmed, so he took a seat next to you and just went silent, letting you dwell in your thoughts, but not entirely letting go of the fact it was still very late and you had RAD tomorrow and he wasn’t going to be the demon to drag you out of bed.
Weirdly, in the end, he made you feel more relaxed somehow? He obviously showed some care for you and that made you feel a bit more secure in your surroundings. He was just who you needed to see in that moment.
Leviathan
Seeing the third born, Leviathan, came as a shock to you more than it did to him. As soon as he saw you, he rolls his eyes and huffs, then continues on to what you imagined to be the kitchen. You thought he’d left at first, leaving you in a peaceful silence with just you and your hot drink, alone in thought. Then, why do you feel so hurt by him ignoring you...? Your thoughts continue to attack you, until another creak echoed into the room. It was him again.
He looked into the room at where you were sitting; it looked like he was deciding whether to walk on or comfort you. He seemingly made up his mind as he walked in and sat down opposite you. You knew he was awkward to be around as soon as you met him, and you weren’t surprised whatsoever when he pulled out his phone and started playing a game, the light from the screen illuminating his face. You noticed his eyes darting up every few seconds, maybe to check you were still there and you hadn’t left him? He wasn’t going to say anything anytime soon, and you knew that, so you sceptically asked him what game he was playing. He didn’t even look at you when he answered, his eyes glued to the screen as he quickly tapped buttons on his phone. You chuckle, telling him you play it too, and you’ve never seen someone’s neck snap up to look at you so fast in your life. His eyes light up as he begins to talk about his favourite characters, then going to ask you yours. He was like an entirely different person; he even dashed up to sit right next to you, showing you all his rare cards, but then blushing after your legs brush against eachother.
Levi made you feel safe, and like you had someone to relate to. Talking to him was also like talking to an old friend, insults included. He really was a joy to be around.
Satan
From out of the shadows, you realise it was Satan, a face that you trusted because of his tranquillity and ability to stay more or less level headed. He obviously came in to have some alone time as he looked like he didn’t expect to see you sitting alone at this hour. But nonetheless, he flashes you a comforting smile, making you relax just a bit, but you still kept your guard high; he was a demon after all...
He quietly minded his own business and went to pick out a book from the various shelves. Reading at this hour sounded a bit odd to you, but perhaps he couldn’t sleep like you? He pulled out a book and sat down on a large chair besides you. The silence was almost deafening as the two of you sat in complete silence for what felt like hours, the only sound audible was the rustle of paper and the sip you made as you drank your drink. You was tempted to get up and leave but he suddenly spoke in a calm and soothing manor, something you never expected from him. He asks several questions, from what your favourite book is, to your favourite genre, and even told you if you ever needed something, come to him and he’d sort it out. He was a kind soul at heart, you noticed, sharing his love for cats with you and watching his eyes light up as he continues to tell you about the ones he looks after outside.
He made the night just that bit better. All you wanted was a friendly face and Satan provided that, along with a much needed conversation.
Asmodeus
You sighed as you realised it was just Asmo. He was probably the least threatening to you compared to his brothers, but you had to admit, being alone at night with the Avatar of Lust did feel slightly unsettling. He caught on to your presence pretty quickly and casually walked over to you, flashing you a big smile and a friendly wave. You cautiously smiled back and went back to drinking your beverage.
He was unsurprisingly friendly, starting up a conversation, or a lecture, you suppose, about how you shouldn’t be up this late unless you want your skin to suffer. He talked quite a lot about himself, so thankfully you didn’t have to respond much, and instead stuck to drinking and nodding occasionally to show you’re still listening. He even gave you little compliments to try and cheer you up; complimenting your hair and skin to which you laughed and thanked him. But he never took his eyes off your hands for some reason, and you couldn’t understand why until he took your hands in his and you soon realised you’d been shaking. He looked at you with sparkling eyes, his tone suddenly quite serious as he began to tell you that if you ever felt lonely or distressed, come to him and he’ll make you feel all better. You couldn’t help but smile and look down in embarrassment, his thumb rubbing the back of your hand soothingly.
After sitting with Asmo for a while, you came to realise he actually had such a kind heart. His aura was calming and you felt safe. He definitely improved your mood.
Beelzebub
Coming from around the hallway was Beelzebub. He always threatened you in a way, what with his large frame that towered over yours and the way you don’t think you’ve seen him smile yet. How could you not be slightly worried about his intentions? He didn’t see you as he made his way to the kitchen next door. You sighed and went back to drinking your hot drink, staring into your lap and feeling painfully lonely. You heard yet another creak and quickly looked up, but all you could see was a stockpile of food held by none other than Beel himself.
You felt your heart leap out your chest in shock. You didn’t even hear him come towards you. He kept staring at you with that same emotionless expression, but when you looked closer, it wasn’t a scary one, or a threatening one. He sat down across from you and started to eat through the huge pile of food he’d gathered, an entire steak lasting maybe 5 seconds. You got heartburn just from watching him so you turned away and continued to sip your drink, listening to the awkward sounds of Beel devouring his next piece of meat. Not even 5 minutes later and you look up and notice all the food was gone, all that was left was this huge grin on his face. In that moment, you felt peaceful, like his smile was lighting up the room and making you feel better already. He looked at you and smiled that same smile, causing you to smile back. He was actually such a happy soul and you soon started talking about your favourite foods and he even got up to get you some fruits that you said you enjoyed.
He was comforting to be around and your first impression on him was no longer as negative. He made you feel safe and you knew you could be open with him without judgment.
Belphegor
Out from around the corner was Belphegor. You could’ve swore he went to sleep ages ago, so you thought he’d be one of the brothers you could avoid, but apparently not. He didn’t even say anything to you as he walked in, blanket and pillows in tow, and spread himself out on the couch across from you, falling straight asleep.
You had no idea what just happened as you listened to his gentle snores, feeling like you’re intruding on something even though you knew he was the one who walked in here and fell asleep right in front of you. You felt slightly weird just watching him sleep and instead focused on finishing your drink and getting out of there. The drink was still hot so you couldn’t exactly just down it, and leaving straight away would’ve just looked weird, what if he wakes up and sees you staring at him? You couldn’t calm yourself as multiple thoughts rushed through your head at the same time, leaving you with a pounding headache. You didn’t even notice the demon across from you peaking one of his eyes open to watch you carefully. You hear him call out your name suddenly, disrupting your panicking thoughts. You stare straight at him and see that he’s now sat up, the blanket wrapped around his shoulders. He apologises for interrupting you and tells you that his twin, Beel, was just snoring too loud and it woke him up, so he came to sleep down here. You smile and nod, but still felt kinda weird. He notices and proceeds to get up and sit right next to you, wrapping you up in his blanket and resting his head on your shoulder, telling you to sleep as you look tired. You blink in surprise but agree silently, waiting for him to fall asleep before trying to yourself.
Belphie was a soothing demon to be around. He never smiled much, but he was warm and made you feel safe and wanted, even if you did sorta play the role of a pillow for him. Falling asleep was quite easy with him around.
I had way too much fun with this, holy shit, thank you to whoever sent this me

diavolo and in the court of the crimson king
(this was asked about by @fullmusicbard a little while back and i thought it sounded fun to write about, so thanks a bunch for the suggestion)
So, it’s a pretty well known fact by now that JoJo characters are often based off of or inspired by the music that they or their stand are named after. Pucci and “Made in Heaven”, Kira and “Killer Queen”, Trish and “Wannabe”, among many other examples, connect to or are influenced by their songs’ lyrics and meanings. However, the one that personally interests me the most is Diavolo and King Crimson, his stand and the progressive rock band that it shares a name with. In particular, I think what he largely took inspiration from is In the Court of the Crimson King, their debut album released in 1969. I’ve thought about this a lot already, so I thought it would be a fun idea to go through the five songs on that album and compare it to his character.
(This is largely going to just be a bunch of interpretation on my part with no real knowledge on what went through Araki’s mind while writing, but I hope this still makes sense lol. Also, this turned out to be, uh... very long, but I broke up all of the songs and tangents into sections so you don’t have to read all of it. I basically just dissect Diavolo’s character and his prog rock-inspiration for several pages.)
The 21st Century Schizoid Man
Being the very first song on the album, the 21st Century Schizoid Man is the most chaotic and energetic song out of every track on the record. It features dissonant tones and heavily distorted vocals, as well as mixed-genre elements of heavy metal, jazz and progressive rock.
It’s also what the cover art of the album is based off of, with the screaming face representing the “21st Century Schizoid Man” himself.
Tumblr media
(This is probably the reason why King Crimson as a stand makes such weird facial expressions.)
This song was originally a criticism of the Vietnam War and the politicians who kept it going, being told through the perspective of the “Schizoid Man” that the song’s title references. While I don’t think the Vietnam aspect of the song is necessarily relevant to Diavolo, I do think that the lyrics inspire his character in other ways, both with his actions and overall personality. I’ll start off with the first verse of the song:
“Cat's foot, iron claw
Neuro-surgeons scream for more
At paranoia's poison door
Twenty-first century schizoid man”
The first line, “Cat’s foot, iron claw” is supposed to show a contrast in strength. With a cat’s foot being relatively small and harmless on its own, the iron claw is the brutal, crushing force that comes attached to it. The most obvious connection I can think of with Vento Aureo is the nature of Doppio and Diavolo, with Doppio being the weaker and less harmful “cat’s foot” under the influence of the Boss, and Diavolo being the more powerful and controlling “iron claw” that comes with him. I also think it could be a potential reference to how King Crimson and Epitaph work together; Epitaph has the ability to see ten seconds into the future, which works in conjunction with King Crimson’s ability to erase or skip events in time. In this way, Epitaph is sort of the “cat’s foot”- fine on its own, and usable for simple defense (as we can see with Doppio), but deadly with the rest of King Crimson; and King Crimson being the “iron claw”, needing Epitaph to function properly but being the main source of the stand’s brute strength.
The second and third line, “Neuro-surgeons scream for more/At paranoia’s poison door” are references to the mental illness and paranoia caused by death and destruction (specifically Vietnam, in the song’s original context). It relates to both the physical damage that soldiers took, requiring extensive surgery on a mass scale, and the extreme paranoia of U.S. leaders to lead to causing such destruction.
Paranoia is an extremely major facet of Diavolo’s character. He goes to the absolute extreme to make sure his power and secrecy is never threatened, killing anyone he even views as a slight threat, even attempting to murder his own daughter in cold blood to cut off all ties from him and the rest of the world. Paranoia is his ‘poison’, ruining the lives of everyone who’s ever known or is related to him, causing evil and pointless violence to be unleashed onto his family and Italy as a whole.
“Blood rack, barbed wire
Politicians' funeral pyre
Innocents raped with napalm fire
Twenty-first century schizoid man”
This verse is intended to be a more explicit description of war, with destructive and gory imagery at play- blood, barbed wire, and napalm fire. The “funeral pyre” is the deaths of innocents resulting from the Vietnam War, being set up and caused by the politicians running it.
A pyre is a structure made of wood used for burning a body as a part of a funeral ritual or method of cremation.
Tumblr media
The mention of a ritual like this is used to set up an image of dignity and respect, only to amalgamate this with the proceeding imagery of innocents being burned alive with napalm fire- technically similar to how pyres dispose of bodies, but instead of being a respectful way of disposing of a corpse, it has instead transformed into a horrifying method of murder on a mass scale.
I think this is referenced by an event in Diavolo’s past, where it’s revealed that his hometown burned down due to a fire we are left to believe he started, killing a confirmed seven people and potentially more:
Tumblr media
Diavolo wanted to erase his history, so he massacred the place where he was known. Innocents were killed with literal fire, creating Diavolo’s “funeral pyre”.
Then we have the third and final verse:
“Death seed, blind man's greed”
The line “Death seed, blind man’s greed” is intentionally oxymoronic (seeds being the beginning of life, but death being the end), with the “death seed” being planted due to the greed and paranoia of the people in power, essentially blinding them from the seed “growing” into the hundreds of thousands of deaths, like a sort of “death tree”. This is about Diavolo and his own paranoia and greed leading to the deaths of dozens, potentially hundreds, of innocent people, and his seeming blindness or indifference to it.
“Poets' starving, children bleed”
The “poets’ starving, children bleed” is supposed to represent society no longer valuing arts, as well as children and young men being harmed. As for Diavolo, his crimes, especially the ones that the story focuses on, very particularly target and involve children. The first negative effect we can see of his reign on Italy is that he allows drugs to be sold to minors, the youngest we see being only thirteen. He also tries to murder his fifteen-year-old daughter, and many of the members of Passione are children themselves- the main character himself, Giorno, getting involved with the mafia at only fifteen, as well as some of the supporting characters; Fugo being around sixteen and Narancia being seventeen. (Though, to be fair, you could probably just blame that part on Shonen logic and less on Diavolo...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But at the same time, it’s pointed out more than once just how young Giorno is by the other characters.)
“Nothing he's got he really needs
Twenty-first century schizoid man”
These last two lines are the most interesting to me, so I’m going to go the most in-depth with them. First, I want to compare Diavolo to the other part five characters and what he is supposed to represent when seen with the rest of the story as a whole. In part five, the most major theme and center of the story focuses on friendship and forming connections with other people; character dynamics get very strong and intimate, with most major character motivation and drive for goodness being defined by their relationships and bonds with the other characters.
One of the best examples of this is with the main character, Giorno. Unlike the protagonists in other parts, his strength doesn’t really come from raw power or toughness. Instead, he often acts more like a support character and healer for the other characters on the team, ending up with him taking a backseat in favor of the others pretty often. Really, there are very few fights in Vento Aureo that Giorno deals with completely on his own; he mostly uses his stand to heal and aid his team rather than using it directly as a weapon, unlike with Jotaro, for example. You really get the impression throughout the whole thing that one of his biggest assets are his allies and ability to guide and create group morale, not necessarily his individual power. He essentially represents the part’s name “golden wind”, stirring motivation in the others and becoming a leader and friend to them.
Tumblr media
You can also see this by taking a look at Bucciarati’s group. Bruno, being a kind and empathetic character, found the others when they were struggling with their lives and individually invited them to his gang in order to give them a purpose again. Due to this, we can see that they’re all deeply loyal to him, and to an extent, each other. In the end, they agree to join Bruno and become a traitor to the Boss because they value their alliance with him over the gang, even if it meant putting their lives in even more danger. If it weren’t for their friendship and loyalty towards him, they wouldn’t have agreed to do this.
Then we have the secondary antagonists, La Squadra. As bad of people as they are, being hitmen, they continue this theme of friendship as well- when Sorbet and Gelato, two members of La Squadra that had been with them for a very long time, are murdered by another person that the Boss hired, and the rest of the group care to the point where they attend their funerals and begin a plot to betray the Boss and uncover his identity, you realize that these guys do genuinely care about and value each other as friends and allies. This is a stark change from most of the past villains in the series (with most just either never interacting or only being ‘united’ under having a common goal and never showing real care for one another).
Most of the other minor antagonists share this theme, too, with them tending to come in pairs and working together with abilities that compliment each other. Tiziano and Squalo, Cioccolata and Secco, and even arguably characters like Sale and Zucchero are all partners that have been together for a long time, to the point where they like and care about each other and, particularly in Tiziano and Squalo’s case, are even willing to die for each other. In all of these cases, the focus is always on their relationships with each other and how they work side by side.
I could go on with every detail and line of dialogue that shows this, but the point is that all of these characters care about one another, protect each other and give off the impression that working as a team with a good goal makes you stronger than you would ever be by yourself. It’s a major part of the overall moral of the story, with the protagonists banding together in the end to remove the source of Italy’s lingering problems.
The defining trait that makes Diavolo stand out from everyone else is that... Well, he really has nobody. He doesn’t have any allies to fall back to, partners to rely on, or anybody that he genuinely considers a friend or family except maybe Doppio (but even then, their relationship is put under false pretenses with Diavolo actively lying to Doppio and keeping him in the dark about his true identity.) Instead of viewing love and having relationships as a strength, he views it as a weakness leaving him open to betrayal and vulnerability- in fact, if anything, he seems to be terrified of relationships, actively avoiding other people or getting attached to others in any capacity.
Tumblr media
You really see how warped his perspective is when you get glimpses into the way he lives. In his very first appearance, he is curled up in a dark corner of a room wearing a cloak to hide his face, so any potential passerby wouldn’t see what he looks like. It is revealed he doesn’t go out in public himself, instead going from hotel to hotel to keep moving around the country, never having a real place to stay. He’s a recluse to the most extreme degree, not even letting anybody know that he exists, let alone revealing anything about his status. He is unable to normally interact with the rest of the world or allow himself to relax about any potential threats in any moment of his life, whether that be a necessity due to being a mafia boss, simply the end result of years of sheer paranoia, or both.
All of this built-up fear leads to the horrifying but inevitable result of him discovering the existence of his daughter, Trish, the consequence of an old relationship he’d long abandoned. Through the first half of Vento Aureo, he gave Bucciarati’s group orders to protect Trish while they delivered her to him, intentionally giving them the impression that he was intending on keeping her safe. However, when she was finally brought to him, he instead attempted to murder her, betraying the group and revealing what his true intentions were all along. Trish, being his own daughter, is someone that he should care about and want to protect... but instead, he only wanted to dispose of her in order to sever the very last tie from him and the rest of society.
As evil of a character as he is, I would argue that Diavolo, at his core, is really supposed to represent the harm of self-isolation and the fear of connecting with other people. With it, he essentially functions as the antithesis to all of Vento Aureo’s themes; while everyone else has somebody to fall back on, Diavolo is alone. In this way, the line “nothing he’s got he really needs” fits with Diavolo in that all of his power as a mafia boss came at a sacrifice of his humanity, lacking all of the things that make the other characters ‘good’. He has gotten rid of all of the things that he needs for what he has, destroying his own life and his relationships in the process.
Now, the real interesting thing about this song is the title, “The 21st Century Schizoid Man”. This is significant because it is referencing a condition called Schizoid Personality Disorder, which is a mental illness where someone actively tries to avoid social activities and interaction with other people. They may be seen as cold and emotionally detached, and they don’t desire or enjoy having personal relationships or bonds with others. The symptoms for the condition typically begin to show up in early adulthood, and known risk factors for the disorder include things like birth complications and childhood neglect.
Before I get into this, keep in mind that Diavolo is an exaggerated fictional character, and he doesn’t accurately represent any real person with this disorder. Do not use him as any standard for people with Schizoid Personality Disorder or assume people with SPD would act like him. (Honestly though, if you’re using jojo characters as a reference for how people act in real life, you’re kind of already doing something wrong). However, with that in mind, I do think that Diavolo was written with the intention of having the disorder, considering his connection to the song and what he is supposed to represent as a character; the “Schizoid Man” that the song is talking about seems to be him.
The symptoms of Schizoid Personality Disorder match up with Diavolo’s character in multiple ways. The avoidance of social interaction and personal relationships, emotional detachment to other people, and the desire for independence are all things that Diavolo strongly exhibits in his personality and actions. (Also notice how Vento Aureo takes place in 2001, the first part to take place in the twenty-first century?)
Tumblr media
Really, the only thing I can see against this is the fact that Doppio doesn’t seem to portray any symptoms of the same disorder. Considering that Doppio is around the physical age of a teenager, though, he might just be too young to have developed it.
Tumblr media
The fact that the disorder’s symptoms begin to show up in early adulthood and can form from childhood neglect would also line up with the implications from Diavolo’s past. Not only is trauma heavily implied due to both Diavolo’s strong hatred of and desire to erase his past and his canonical mental illness being caused by early childhood trauma, but we also see that he didn’t portray the same behavior back when he was a teenager. He was comfortable enough around other people to be a well-known person in his small town and even have a girlfriend, contrasting with the destructive recluse that we know he is in part five. This pieces together a narrative that shows he used to be a relatively normal person, but a combination of his potential trauma and lust for power drove him into a paranoid obsession with avoiding everyone and keeping his identity a secret- eventually developing into what we saw in Vento Aureo, with him refusing to even go out in public or having his name or face seen by anybody. To me, this does seem to suggest that he is written to have Schizoid Personality Disorder, which, in his case, ended up becoming exacerbated to an extreme point.
With the rest of the song lyrics being easily connected in a way to describe him alongside many of his actions, I think it’s fairly clear that Diavolo is the 21st Century Schizoid Man, with the track directly describing him. I see this as the main song that inspires Diavolo and sets up a lot of the aspects of his narrative and way of thinking when compared to the other characters, and how he essentially works as the inverse to Vento Aureo’s themes.
I Talk to the Wind
(Before I get into this next part: Here, I am going to talk about Doppio and Diavolo and their relationship. You’ll probably notice that I’m going to be using a lot of different terminologies than Vento Aureo uses to describe them. This is because, as this part was written back in the nineties, it uses a lot of outdated words and phrases for their disorder. For example, “Multiple Personality Disorder” is no longer the proper name for Dissociative Identity Disorder (or DID, for short). I will also be using the word “alter” instead of “personality” because, to my knowledge, the latter phrase is an overall inaccurate and outdated term to describe a DID system. Finally, keep in mind that Diavolo and Doppio are not accurate depictions of DID, and I only have an extremely surface-level understanding of the disorder, so nothing that I say here applies to real life in any way whatsoever.
While I will use the proper terminology because I wouldn’t feel good about intentionally using the outdated and incorrect ones, I think it is a bad idea to introduce real-life DID symptoms for these two considering I don’t think there was any real effort put into making them ‘accurate’ in the first place. My interpretation of them and their mental illness will only use canonically stated or shown information about the disorder. If there is an aspect to them that contradicts, heavily exaggerates, or otherwise ignores the way DID typically works in real life, I will favor the unrealistic interpretation. I hope that makes sense.)
Tumblr media
So, around a few episodes after Diavolo is first established as a character, it’s revealed that he has Dissociative Identity Disorder. The other alter in the system is Doppio, the younger underboss of Passione. Diavolo uses Doppio to travel around undetected and as his most trusted right-hand man, carrying information and completing tasks for him. He is the only shown connection that Diavolo has to the outside world, with Doppio being the only one who fronts in public. Despite how much Diavolo desperately avoids social interaction and other people in general, Doppio is a character that he is quite literally incapable of getting rid of- so, we get to see how he treats him more than with anybody else.
I think that I Talk to the Wind most inspires Doppio, his relationship with Diavolo, and his eventual death. However, before that, I want to get something out of the way quickly to avoid some potential confusion: I know that it’s a very common talking point in the fanbase that Doppio and Diavolo are “the same person”, so their relationship often simply gets ignored. However, I think the reality of this might be a little more complicated than that.
---
I’ll try to keep this brief since I’ve explained this before, but the thing with Doppio and Diavolo is that they have two souls, separate and individual from each other. This is both directly stated by Polnareff and demonstrated by the two of them being separated and swapped individually of each other in the Silver Chariot Requiem arc, and with Trish’s inability to sense Doppio’s soul despite being able to sense Diavolo.
Tumblr media
They are not just something that their brain is creating, but are literally two separate entities.
The proceeding explanation of this, though, seems to be a case where the anime adaptation differs from the manga. In the original manga, it is stated that they are the “same” person, just “with different souls”:
Tumblr media
The anime adaptation appears to change this line to “they share a body, but their minds are separate”. It then proceeds to refer to them as two people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Keep in mind that these are both translations and not the original wording, but this seems like a pretty significant line change regardless.)
There are also some implications made that could potentially lead to this not even being a case of DID at all. Namely, there are some potential suggestions that Diavolo might not be entirely human or of human origin, and instead may be the result of some kind of inhuman soul inhabiting a human body. (Remember how their birth made no sense, and the nature of their father and how their mother got pregnant seemed unnatural and how it happened remains a mystery? Diavolo's strange and unnatural eyes unique to any other character in the series? How when Bruno took over Diavolo’s body, the eyes in his body changed back to normal, unlike with any other swap? And the fact that his name translates to “Devil”?) It’s not a conclusion I typically like to resort to, but it’s definitely not impossible based on the implications here. I imagine this would complicate things even further since we’d know that Doppio and Diavolo would have to be separate beings in this scenario.
Altogether, with the actual logic of how they work and the explanations that change from version to version, I don’t think you can come to a definite answer on if Doppio and Diavolo are really the “same person” or not. Pick which one you like more, I guess. (Personally, I think that them being two different people would be more logical just given how we know souls work in Jojo- while it is more accurate to real DID to say that people with DID are not literally multiple people in one body but rather parts of one whole, I fail to see how the manga’s “they’re the same person with different souls!” makes... any sense. I can’t really argue with a canonical explanation, though.) And in spite of all of this, I think you have to acknowledge that even if Doppio and Diavolo aren’t separate people, they are narratively two different characters- Doppio has his own motivations, thoughts and feelings separate from Diavolo, and the two of them have a clear relationship with each other. In the end, I think it’s still fair to acknowledge and talk about their dynamic, which is why I will do so here.
---
“I Talk to the Wind” is the second track in the album and a pretty stark contrast to the first. While The 21st Century Schizoid Man is a loud cacophony, with a lot of jazzy elements and ending in a chaotic crashing and screaming of instruments, this song is quiet and gentle with far more simple components to its tune, being led by a flute instead of a saxophone and guitar. You could describe it as dreamy and serene, and a sort of relaxation from the chaos that was the previous song. The lyrics begin by describing a conversation between two people.
“Said the straight man to the late man
"Where have you been?"
I've been here and I've been there
And I've been in between”
I think that this could refer to their fractured identity. As they have been broken into two different souls, you see their appearance and mind change as one or the other gains control of the body. “Here” could mean one of them being in control, with “there” being the other, as well as “in between” being the shifting states where both might partially be there (for example, when Diavolo is conscious when he is talking to Doppio or the Risotto fight where he was actively trying to take full control of the body).
Then, the chorus:
“I talk to the wind
My words are all carried away
I talk to the wind
The wind does not hear, the wind cannot hear”
I think that the phrase “I talk to the wind” could mean a couple of things here. It could mean “talking to nobody/myself”, or, alternatively, it could mean “talking to somebody that doesn’t listen” (I feel like the latter is further suggested by the lyric “The wind does not hear, the wind cannot hear”- if we’re personifying the “wind” as a consciousness, this would imply the person talking is not being listened to, or their words are not being heard).
I can see both of these meanings applying to Diavolo and Doppio. If we are going with the assumption that Diavolo and Doppio are one individual, the “talking to myself” interpretation would fit for... obvious reasons. Otherwise, the “talking to somebody who doesn’t listen” also fits in regards to Doppio and Diavolo’s relationship, I think, which I’ll explain alongside the other verses.
“I'm on the outside looking inside
What do I see?
Much confusion, disillusion
All around me”
For most of the part, Doppio and Diavolo’s screen time takes place away from the rest of the cast. Doppio doesn’t get to interact with Team Bucciarati at all except for the one time he disguised himself as Trish, and the only person who sticks around long enough to really interact with him other than Diavolo is Risotto, who dies very quickly. Diavolo, immediately murdering Bruno when he first encounters him and only interacting with Giorno in the very final fight, also does not get much time with them. Instead, most of our information about Doppio and Diavolo is provided by watching them on their own while the other characters are busy trying to find out their identity. In this way, the “outsider looking inside” represents the audience; we know a lot more about Doppio and Diavolo than the protagonists do, however, what we’re shown opens up several more questions than answers that we just never get the answer to, nor enough evidence to come to a solid conclusion ourselves. Like, for example:
Tumblr media
What’s going on with Diavolo’s eyes? Are they important? Were they always like that? Do they signify something?
Tumblr media
How was their birth possible? Why was their mother pregnant with them for over two years? Who was their father?
Tumblr media
How did their mother stay alive under the floorboards for years? Did Diavolo keep her there? Why?
Who is Donatella, and how did she manage to have a relationship with Diavolo? What was it like? Did he ever care about her? Is Diavolo even entirely human? Is Doppio human? What are they?
All of these questions are raised, but they never get acknowledged or resolved. And, since it’s purely the audience who sees these things about them, the protagonists don’t know about nor try to find out the answers, leaving us in the dark. It also makes Diavolo’s inherently secretive and paranoid nature make even more sense in retrospect. We have no idea how many secrets he holds that we don’t even know about (and it might be the case that not even he’s aware of what’s going on with him). So, what we see with the two of them lines up with the lyrics- confusion (and the other characters’ confusion) about his identity and past, and disillusion with the fact that our questions are never answered.
Like I said before, Diavolo sees human connection as a weakness to avoid, instead of any sort of strength. Doppio, however, noticeably doesn’t seem to share this view.
Tumblr media
Like his boss, Doppio isn’t shown to have any friends or relationships with other people at all. However, as we can see, it’s not really something he enjoys or desires for himself; in contrast, he actually seems to share a lot more in common with the protagonists in regards to his feelings on connection and friendship. You get the feeling that unlike Diavolo, isolation is not his choice, but is something he was more or less pushed into by playing the role of Diavolo’s vessel. Being under the command of and sharing a body with the most paranoid and isolated character in the series, as well as being forced to stay secretive while constantly moving around the country does not leave much room for him to talk to people or make any real friends. This all results in Doppio being a pretty lonely and unhappy character, unable to maintain any connections with the world and being forgotten about by most people. It leaves him with only one person to talk to and be comforted by, which ends up being... Well, Diavolo.
This brings me to the two’s actual relationship. Diavolo, while around other people, acts nothing but arrogant, cold and hostile, only thinking about himself and showing no care for the people he harms. With Doppio, though, he acts noticeably differently. While he is unsympathetic and aloof towards anybody else, he seems to treat Doppio with a lot of respect and even kindness, an attitude that we do not see him share with any other character. He compliments his abilities, gives him information that no other character knows about himself (as well as directly talking to him instead of sending encrypted messages like with the other Passione members), and, most uniquely, refers to him affectionately as “my Doppio” or “my dearest Doppio”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I wonder if Trish would be jealous.)
Considering the intense paranoia that Diavolo exhibits towards anyone and anything else, him putting this amount of trust into someone with at least a separate conscience than his is... really intriguing. It makes sense why Doppio would put so much faith in him, and have a much more positive opinion of him than any other character seems to (remember, 99% of the characters in Vento Aureo either hate and want to kill Diavolo or just want to take over the mafia for themselves. The only thing stopping them was just how powerful Diavolo and his stand ability is, as well as him concealing his identity so thoroughly; Doppio is the only one who really shows any true loyalty.)
Is this affection that Diavolo gives genuine, or is it really a front to appeal to Doppio’s loneliness? It’s hard to say. It could always be that he just sees Doppio as an object to manipulate instead of someone that he genuinely trusts and respects. It’s possible that the only reason Diavolo “trusted” Doppio was because he could watch him at all times and take control of the situation any time he felt like it. The “affection” that he shares might just be him trying to shift Doppio to his side, making him see Diavolo as the only one who treats him with any sort of respect. At the same time, though, there’s no solid evidence that the affection he gives isn’t genuine, at least to an extent. Maybe he sees Doppio as a sort of extension of himself, so some of his egocentric attitude seeps into his opinion of Doppio. Maybe they’ve been with each other long enough that Diavolo has built up some sincere trust towards him. Or, maybe he just genuinely likes him and sees him as a trustworthy comrade. It’s never made perfectly clear one way or another.
No matter what Diavolo’s genuine feelings are, though, Doppio is harmed by his influence regardless. There seems to be nothing inherently “wrong” with Doppio himself that makes people not like him- in fact, he acts just like a nice, ordinary civilian when he’s not threatened or under the Boss’ orders. The only real reason why Doppio is unable to make any friends, causing his loneliness, is rooted in his alliance with Diavolo in the first place. Remember, his boss is the one ordering him to stay constantly moving around the country, keeping secrets and killing anyone who gets in his way. His boss is the one guiding his actions, using him as a vessel to get what he wants. If it weren’t for that, he’d be... a pretty normal kid, if a bit clumsy and eccentric. Ironically, the one person that Doppio saw as a friend and guardian figure was simultaneously the one keeping him from living a normal life, and it takes a toll on him whether he knows it or not.
And with this, we have verse three:
“You don't possess me, don't impress me
Just upset my mind
Can't instruct me or conduct me
Just use up my time”
This is showing the narrator’s frustration with the “wind” that they’re talking to, relating to the harm that Doppio’s relationship with the Boss causes him. “Possess” is an interesting word here, because it could mean two different things: one, to own, or two, to take control of. While the latter meaning would be the generally obvious one to go for considering that Doppio and Diavolo share a body, I think that the former interpretation could actually make sense here as well. Diavolo refers to Doppio with the possessive adjective “my”, as if Doppio ‘belongs’ to him; and for all intents and purposes, he does control and use him throughout the part. Doppio doesn’t really get to do much on his own desires, only being used to help Diavolo achieve his goals, showing just how much control Diavolo has over him.
This could alternatively connect to Doppio’s occasional anger at or refusal of Diavolo’s commands- both in the fight with Risotto, when he didn’t stay put and still fought back even after Diavolo told him not to, or in this panel, when a frustrated Doppio screams at Diavolo for calling him at a bad time:
Tumblr media
The second line, “Just upset my mind”, is also interesting in this context. Diavolo does “upset” Doppio’s mind, in a couple of ways- not just physically, by being shown to give him headaches and disorientation (and also by making him hallucinate, with the fake phones), but also emotionally, by being the one causing his loneliness and sadness in the first place. While Doppio isn’t actively aware of the harm that Diavolo causes him, unlike the narrator in the song, the lyrics still describe a relationship that could apply to the two of them.
While this whole dynamic is built up throughout the two’s screen time, it’s finally brought to our attention during the semi-final fight, after Doppio had been shot in Bruno’s dying corpse.
Tumblr media
Bleeding to death, he spends his last moments deliriously begging Diavolo to call him again. He doesn’t realize that his boss isn’t there to hear him, nor does he have any means to “call” him anymore. They're in two separate bodies now, but Doppio doesn’t know that. Diavolo never fully informed him of who he really was, even such major information as the fact that they shared a body. And due to that, in the very end, he’s talking to nobody- Diavolo does not and cannot hear him anymore. He’s just talking to the wind.
This also speaks to Diavolo’s character as well as Doppio’s. While I would argue there was really no choice that Diavolo had in this situation (they would’ve both died if he didn’t leave the body and attempt to kill Bucciarati’s group himself, and there was no way he could’ve predicted nor prevented Doppio getting shot; not to mention, Diavolo impales Narancia right after it happens, alerting the group to his presence despite him trying to remain hidden, suggesting that it might’ve been a revenge kill or impulsive response), it says something about him that the only other character he’s shown to “care” about, not to mention been with for every other scene, dies alone without him there. Diavolo isn’t there to comfort or talk to him, nor even see his death at all. We get no shown reaction from him or even any mention of Doppio after this scene, either. This showcases Diavolo’s refusal to willingly reveal any vulnerability towards other people- even if it comes at the detriment of the person who’s been with him for years, if not essentially his whole life.
As stupid as some of Doppio’s scenes get, I actually find the basis of his character to be sort of depressing at his core. He spent most (if not all) of his life being manipulated by someone he was unable to get rid of, only to die alone and forgotten, never even getting a passing mention by anyone afterwards. And, with that, I think “I Talk to the Wind” fits really well. Not only does Doppio’s character match up with the melancholy lyrics and tone, but it also corresponds with his and Diavolo’s dynamic very closely. Because of that, I think this is the song that Araki took some inspiration from when making Doppio, and based a lot of his character on.
Epitaph
Epitaph is the third track on the album (and my personal favorite out of the five.) Like the 21st Century Schizoid Man, this song’s lyrics are also (albeit more subtly) about the Cold War. It describes a dystopian reality where “right” and “wrong” are twisted beyond meaning, and the constant threat of nuclear destruction has become the norm. The most notable thing about the song Epitaph and its connection to Vento Aureo is the fact that instead of just influencing a character’s behavior and actions, it is directly referenced in the story. You’ve probably already noticed this yourself, but “Epitaph” is the name of Diavolo’s substand, or the tiny second face on King Crimson’s head.
Tumblr media
Epitaph’s ability matches with the meaning of the song pretty directly, as well as tying into Diavolo as a character, so I think it would be a good idea to explain the stand(s) alongside the song here.
---
Here, I want to actually talk about King Crimson (the stand) and how it works with Epitaph, as well as how it connects to Diavolo and his beliefs. King Crimson has the ability to erase time- or, a better word for it would be that it skips through time. It essentially erases the “cause” of something, and keeps the “effect” of said thing happening. A good example is with Narancia when he was about to eat a box of chocolate. When King Crimson activated its ability, time seems to ‘skip’ to the point where he’s already eaten the chocolate. It suddenly appeared in his mouth, half-chewed, and he had no memory of the actual act of eating it. He went straight from being just about to eat the chocolate to having it already in his mouth with the connecting action completely deleted.
Tumblr media
Time is not perceived or remembered by anybody while it is being “skipped” except for Diavolo, who enters a state where he is unable to interact with anything under the influence of his timeskip, with objects going right through his body, but can also move freely and watch his opponent’s “erased” actions being carried out.
Tumblr media
Epitaph, with its ability to predict the future up to ten seconds later, works in conjunction with the rest of King Crimson’s ability to erase time. Before Diavolo timeskips, he uses Epitaph to view what happens in the future. If he likes what he sees, he can use King Crimson to skip to the desired event. If he doesn’t, he can use King Crimson to get rid of the event entirely, essentially ‘erasing’ his own fate.
This is what makes King Crimson such a powerful ability- Diavolo can just predict all of his opponent’s actions, dodge them, then sneak up on them while they’re in a state of confusion and kill them in one hit. If he sees an event unfavorable to him, he can just erase it. This is what made him seem so terrifying and unbeatable to the protagonists. How would they be able to beat a fate-changing stand that can make the owner practically bend reality to his will?
However, there are a few weaknesses to King Crimson. While he does erase events for everybody, Diavolo is only able to actually change fate for himself. Everyone else still has to abide by the future that ‘fate’ provided for them, carrying out their actions regardless. This is how, for example, Narancia was still impaled on the fence even when Diavolo would’ve logically been unable to interact with him; he was fated to die, and so he did. King Crimson is also a very short-ranged stand, only able to move about two meters away from Diavolo at maximum, and can only predict and erase time for up to ten seconds. This means that while Diavolo is almost impossible to defeat alone, he cannot face large groups at once, instead resorting to picking off his enemies one-by-one while they are by themselves.
---
King Crimson’s ability ties into Diavolo’s philosophy on morality and how he justifies his actions to himself. In his eyes, as long as he gets what he wants, the actions done to achieve it don’t matter to him. (It’s essentially an extreme version of “the end justifies the means”.) The actions taken are meaningless, as long as he gets the results; and this shows itself in King Crimson’s ability to remove the action and only leave the results.
Tumblr media
This is how he justifies to himself the destruction he’s caused on his family, as well as countless children and other civilians. As long as he remains in power, none of the atrocities he commits, and nothing that happens to anybody else matters. (He also specifically expresses disgust at individuals who torture and kill for pleasure and no other reason, like with Cioccolata and Secco.)
I also think that Diavolo’s weakness of being unable to face large groups is another part of the major theme of relationships in part five and how teaming up with other people makes you stronger. While Giorno and the rest of the group were practically powerless against Diavolo in the beginning, three of them being killed by Diavolo while they were separated, they eventually group together for the very final fight and manage to defeat him collectively.
Now, what about Epitaph? I’ve heard people claim that Epitaph belongs to Doppio and not Diavolo, but I do not think this is the case. Remember, when Doppio dies, Epitaph does not disappear. If Epitaph was a projection of Doppio’s soul and not Diavolo’s, shouldn’t it have gone alongside him? Diavolo also frequently refers to Epitaph as “his” stand, even when Doppio is using it, and it is stated that Epitaph is just a part of King Crimson that Diavolo is allowing him to use; if Epitaph really belonged to Doppio, I don’t see why Diavolo wouldn’t just tell him that he has his own stand ability. (And even then, would King Crimson’s arms specifically belong to Doppio, too?) There’s just nothing that I see within canon that would suggest this fanon opinion, nor would it even really make sense. Though, I do think the fact that there are two faces on King Crimson’s body is referencing Diavolo’s DID, or the fact that his body contains two souls; just like how King Crimson and Epitaph are technically two stands/abilities attached to each other.
I also think that Epitaph’s general look and aesthetic might be inspired by the cover art for In the Court of the Crimson King.
Tumblr media
It has a similar color, shape and overall weird appearance, just smaller and less detailed.
Then, we have the actual song itself. I believe that this is about Diavolo’s goals and how he connects to Vento Aureo’s theme of fate, as well as King Crimson’s ability. Let’s get into the actual song lyrics and dissect what they mean.
“The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams”
This is, I believe, referring to King Crimson. The “wall” is reality, and the “prophets” are fate; King Crimson, however, changes fate by erasing time itself, causing the “wall” of reality to crack at the seams. This is helped by the fact that when King Crimson is activated, it is usually personified by showing the world literally breaking apart around Diavolo:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams”
I think that these lines could have a couple of meanings in Vento Aureo’s context. The first time Epitaph is brought to our attention with Doppio, the sunlight is literally brightly gleaming onto it.
Tumblr media
If we viewed Epitaph and King Crimson as the “instruments of death”, this would fit in with the lyrics.
I also believe that the “instruments of death” could be about the Requiem arrow. The arrow, something used to “upgrade” stands to extremely powerful forms, is something that both Diavolo and the protagonists desperately sought.
Tumblr media
The “sunlight” could either represent how it is desired by everyone, or the fact that when it pierces a stand, light projects out of it, showing its power.
“When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams”
Mankind is simultaneously haunted by nightmares, the horror of the world, and plagued with endless dreams, aspirations and goals. To Diavolo, maintaining his power and absolute secrecy is his “dream” and ambition. However, Diavolo’s “dream” ends up as a nightmare for everybody else; the attempted murder of his own daughter, allowing drugs to be sold to children, and the resulting torture and murder of innocent people are just a few symptoms of Diavolo trying to get what he wants. The protagonist’s conflicting aspirations to stop the source of corruption in Italy is their dream, too, and it drives them to find out the Boss’ identity and hunt him down (not to mention that Giorno’s catchphrase is literally “I, Giorno Giovanna, have a dream”).
“Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams?”
A laurel wreath is headwear, seen as a symbol of triumph, and is worn around the head as an emblem of victory. The question “Will no one lay the laurel wreath when silence drowns the screams?” is rhetorical; no one will be crowned with any symbol of “triumph” if everyone is dead. As for Diavolo, no one will be there to congratulate or reward him for his accomplishments because nobody knows him or anything about him in the first place. He wants to rule in secret, with his identity hidden from everyone; essentially, he wants to rule quietly and in isolation. In order to maintain this, he murders anyone and everyone who attempts to seek him out, represented by the “screams”- but in the end, everything becomes silent, as everyone who knows of his existence is dead.
“Confusion will be my epitaph
As I crawl a cracked and broken path”
An “epitaph” is a phrase typically written on a tombstone in memory of a person who has died. It can also represent anything by which a person is remembered; essentially, it’s a commemoration of a person’s life and accomplishments. When the narrator is saying that confusion will be their “epitaph”, this means that at the end of their life, “confusion” is what they will be remembered by.
For Diavolo, once again, confusion is a major aspect of his character. Confusion about who he is, his whereabouts, his motivations, his past, even how he came to exist in the first place- pretty much everything about him is built to be misdirecting and hard to understand, if not entirely unknowable. The protagonists spend the majority of the part trying to find out who the Boss is, being just as confused as the audience is. Just like the lyrics, Diavolo’s epitaph, how he will be remembered, will also be confusion. While the protagonists did manage to find him, much about him and his identity were still left completely unexplained, and we are left to believe that we will never get a real answer to any of it.
“Between the iron gates of fate
The seeds of time were sown
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known”
This is about the “fate” system. In Jojo, all actions are predetermined and impossible to change (unless you’re Diavolo, that is). The “seeds of time” are all of the events that were destined to inevitably happen, locked behind the certainty of fate and made into reality by people’s actions.
“Knowledge is a deadly friend
If no one sets the rules
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools”
Thanks to King Crimson being so heavily connected to fate, Diavolo has a strong understanding of how it works. This knowledge is dangerous to the protagonists, as he is able to not only predict fate with Epitaph, but he is also able to warp and even erase fate entirely due to his ability to erase time. He is aware of and actively chooses to “break” fate’s rules. Ironically, despite how much Diavolo boasts that fate has “chosen” him to be in power, we constantly see him defy and erase it to reach his goals- instead of getting his way there legitimately, he forces his way to the top by cheating his way out of any obstacle he comes across, even ones set in stone by the universe itself. This ends up becoming his downfall at the end when Giorno uses his Gold Experience Requiem to also cheat fate, but this time, against Diavolo.
“If we make it we can all sit back and laugh
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying
Crying...
Crying...”
This is about Diavolo’s fear of his identity being discovered by the protagonists. If he manages to defeat them all, he can remain in power and laugh at their failed attempt to usurp him, just like La Squadra and every other attempt to overtake him before. It would just be another one of his victories as the self-declared “King”. If he’s defeated, on the other hand... well, he’s screwed.
Despite just how powerful his stand is, he’s still so intensely paranoid of betrayal that he goes to extra lengths to make sure he is completely unreachable and never under threat. This fear ultimately ends up becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy when his attempt to defeat Giorno backfires by causing the creation of Gold Experience Requiem, the thing that finally defeats him.
Gold Experience Requiem’s ability is, in a way, the polar opposite of King Crimson’s ability. While King Crimson takes away the “action” of something, and keeps the “result”, GER’s ability essentially keeps the “action” of something, but takes away the “result”.
Tumblr media
You can try to use your stand, but the result of your ability will not happen, as we can see with King Crimson’s deleted time being reversed when GER’s ability activates.
Tumblr media
It also has the effect of setting a person’s “death” to zero, causing them to go through the experience of dying, but without the result of them becoming dead; so, they die an infinite number of times, never reaching an actual ending to their pain.
This is the moral that Diavolo’s character is teaching. When you only desire the result and don’t care about your methods of achieving said result, you lose sight of what was even important in the first place. This is something that even happens to be foreshadowed far earlier, during Abbacchio’s death scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The lyric “I fear tomorrow I’ll be crying” refers to Diavolo’s defeat and eternal punishment (and most likely the thing that he will be inevitably doing in the death loop). Diavolo receiving the punishment of infinite death is a sort of counter and form of irony to not only his stand ability itself, but also to the way he sees morality. He only seeks the ‘results’ to the point where he’s completely blind-sighted to the effects of his actions, so... what’s more fitting of a punishment than for him to never reach a result?
I’d also like to draw a visual parallel between the cover art for In the Court of the Crimson King and Diavolo after he was affected by GER:
Tumblr media
If this were intentional, it would be pretty cool (and further drive home that Diavolo himself is the “Schizoid Man” from the opening song).
Overall, Epitaph ties into a lot of major themes in Vento Aureo. Not only do its lyrics match with Epitaph as a stand, but also with how fate in Jojo is utilized by Diavolo. It also connects to a lot of his motivations, morals (or the lack of them), beliefs, and a lot of the plot points relating to his goals and his fate at the very end.
Moonchild
“Moonchild” is the fourth song on the album. This track is mostly instrumental and improvisational, with the lyrics being generally abstract and taking only two minutes to get through, so I do not think there’s much to talk about in regards to the individual lyrics here. I still see parallels between this song and Diavolo, though.
While vague, the lyrics are essentially a personification of the moon, describing the appearance and activities of the night and how the moonlight glows on the landscape. It also describes the moon as “waiting for the sun”, or the night waiting for the sun to rise so daytime can start.
 “Call her moonchild
Dancing in the shallows of a river
Lonely moonchild
Dreaming in the shadows of a willow
Talking to the trees of the cobweb strange
Sleeping on the steps of a fountain
Waving silver wands to the night-bird's song
Waiting for the sun on the mountain
She's a moonchild
Gathering the flowers in a garden
Lovely moonchild
Drifting in the echoes of the hours
Sailing on the wind in a milk white gown
Dropping circle stones on a sun dial
Playing hide and seek with the ghosts of dawn
Waiting for a smile from a sun child”
What this brought to mind for me is the way that light is used as symbolism in Vento Aureo. Giorno, whose name translates to the word ‘day’ in Italian, is often symbolized by brightness and sunlight, being accompanied by warm, golden colors.
Tumblr media
This symbolizes the goodness in his character, as well as fitting with the part’s title meaning “Golden Wind”- Giorno is the daylight and the golden wind, with his ambition to seek out the truth being what eviscerates the darkness and holds everyone together.
By contrast, with the exception of the final fight, Diavolo’s scenes take place in dimly lit rooms, night, or total darkness. In Diavolo’s very first appearance, we see him hiding in a dark room, covered in a cloak to conceal himself. In his encounter with Bruno, it is equally dark, so Bruno wasn’t able to make out his face. King Crimson’s “erased time” zone is portrayed as a black, starry cosmos. When Diavolo is first revealed in full, it is during the middle of the night, so he remains shrouded in darkness to everyone except for his target, Polnareff.
Tumblr media
The final fight to race for the stand arrow, and Diavolo’s defeat, takes place in very bright daylight, with GER forcibly pulling Diavolo out of his erased time “zone” and showering the scenery in gold sunshine.
Tumblr media
In this way, if Giorno is the “sun” or the “light”, Diavolo is the moon. Italy is in a period of darkness due to Diavolo, blocking out the light, and it’s waiting on a chance to return said light- or a “sun child”, as the lyrics say.
I do not see much else to say here beyond this (like I said, this song is mostly improv). The next song gets much more interesting from a Vento Aureo perspective, in my opinion, and it ties the entire narrative together.
The Court of the Crimson King
The Court of the Crimson King is the final and titular song on the record, the main subject being the “Crimson King” that the album and band itself is named after. You’ll notice here that the lyrics are in the setting of a medieval kingdom- a “tournament”, “piper” and a “choir”, as well as (obviously) the crimson king’s “court” are all imagery that is brought to mind. While Passione is a mafia, which is obviously not a monarchy, I do think there are a lot of parallels you can draw between this song and how Passione is written.
“The rusted chains of prison moons
Are shattered by the sun
I walk a road, horizons change
The tournament's begun”
The first four lines of this song are actually changed around in radio sessions, making it so there are technically two versions of this song. I will bring these up as well, because they seem to have more of a clear connection to part five.
“The earth is captive to the moon
Some seek the rising sun
I walk the road on wings of change
The game has just begun”
“The earth is captive to the moon” seems to reference the last song, Moonchild. Bringing this back to the moon/sun metaphor with Diavolo and Giorno, the earth being “captive” to the moon would fit as Diavolo’s control over Italy, with the “rising sun” and “wings of change” being Giorno and his drive to change things for the better. Vento Aureo’s plot is the “game” that has begun, with the protagonist’s race to discover the Boss’ identity.
“The purple piper plays his tune
The choir softly sing
Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
For the court of the crimson king, aah
Aah, aah”
This song uses a lot of color in its lyrics, the first being the “purple piper” mentioned in this verse. This is a color that Diavolo and Doppio are very often portrayed as in Araki’s artwork, as well as a color scheme they often flip to in the anime adaptation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this case, I think the “piper” could represent Doppio, being Diavolo’s most loyal subordinate and ally.
The term “crimson king” itself is the main thing that I want to talk about here. It’s an interesting phrase because it has two different meanings, both of which I think are significant to Diavolo. The first meaning is used to refer to a king or ruler whose reign was marked by ruthlessness and bloodshed alongside creating societal upheaval and change. This description would fit Diavolo very accurately- he’s absolutely ruthless in everything he does, to the point where he’s probably caused the deaths of hundreds or thousands of people (both directly, through torturing/murdering people to make sure his identity is never discovered, and indirectly, through the violence caused by the mafia he founded and damages from drug trafficking). The creation of societal upheaval is also accurate, with his ‘reign’ creating backlash from his followers and ending with him being violently overthrown by Giorno.
This comparison becomes even more overt when you take into consideration much of Diavolo’s dialogue, referring to himself as a monarch with words like “King” and “Emperor” instead of as a Boss:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Crimson king” is also often seen as an alias for the Devil himself (more specifically Beelzebub, but it is seen as demonic in general, so I’ll generalize it to that). This is often what this lyric, and the band’s name, is interpreted as meaning, with the crimson king’s “court” being seen as Hell. Robert Fripp, the most prominent member and co-founder of King Crimson, was even quoted as saying this:
“The name King Crimson is a synonym for Beelzebub, which is an anglicized form of the Arabic phrase “B'il Sabab”. This means literally “the man with an aim”, and is the recognizable quality of King Crimson.”
Diavolo, as you probably already know, undeniably has lots of demonic implications and satanic imagery incorporated into his character. Might I mention again that his name is literally the Italian word for “Devil”? From the mysterious circumstances of his birth to the betrayal of his religious upbringing and his first known murder being a priest, to being constantly shrouded in darkness and a ruthless, anonymous leader with several different aliases, it’s very blatant what Araki was trying to get at here. His hair even spikes at the top to appear like horns on his head in his full reveal- it’s a small detail, but it’s there.
Tumblr media
While we are not certain that he is truly inhuman (although potential implications for that do exist), this demonic subtext is clearly present, especially when contrasted with Giorno and his father, DIO. Considering the fact that DIO’s name means “God” in Italian and Giorno is his son, that would then make him the son of “God”, or Jesus. It’s fitting, then, that the person he ends up fighting and defeating is the symbolic equivalent of the Devil.
He also doubles as a parallel to DIO himself- something especially noticeable during the correlating ‘stair’ scenes in parts three and five, with Diavolo and DIO both revealing themselves on opposite ends of the staircase:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The symbolism is fairly obvious here. Polnareff is looking up at the “God”, but looking down at the “Devil”. (I could also draw lots of connections to DIO and Diavolo in terms of their actual personalities and the way the story is structured around them, but if I went into all of the little details I would be here all day.)
Even more interestingly, there is a nod to an implied alternate-universe version of Diavolo in Steel Ball Run. In this version, he is a literal monarch, ruling over the fictional Kingdom of Naples, fitting even more overtly with this song’s setting. There is also a specific mention of Lucifer and the country turning its back on its Christian origin, similar to how Diavolo betrayed what we can only assume to be the religion he was raised by in his past.
Tumblr media
This manages to hit both definitions of “crimson king” in and of itself- a ruthless leader and the Devil.
The stand King Crimson is a perfect fit for Diavolo in name alone, with him matching every meaning of the term. In reference to this song, then, his “court” would have to be Passione, with his “kingdom” being Italy.
“The keeper of the city keys
Put shutters on the dreams
I wait outside the pilgrim's door
With insufficient schemes
The black queen chants the funeral march
The cracked brass bells will ring
To summon back the fire witch
To the court of the crimson king, aah
Aah, aah”
“The keeper of the city keys” is the one in power, crushing the desires of the people they control (putting “shutters” on their dreams). The “black queen” is a metaphor for death, chanting the “funeral march” as people die. This is much like what Diavolo set out to do to everyone who attempts to betray him (killing potentially dozens of people in the process), as well as him being the obstacle to Giorno’s dreams and goal of having a country uncorrupted by the drug trade. I could also see “fire witch” calling back to Diavolo’s past, with him burning down his hometown.
“The gardener plants an evergreen
Whilst trampling on a flower
I chase the wind of a prism ship
To taste the sweet and sour
The pattern juggler lifts his hand
The orchestra begin
As slowly turns the grinding wheel”
The “gardener”, in this metaphor, is a person who chases great long-term future plans and ideas (‘planting an evergreen’) to such an extent that they ignore or trample over the present and world around them (killing the ‘flower’). This would be about Diavolo’s major flaw of only desiring future results and not caring about present actions, blindsighting him to the things that he’s doing and what’s really important in the present, much like in Epitaph.
“On soft gray mornings widows cry
The wise men share a joke”
Here in the final verse, the lyrics begin to directly show something sinister going on behind the scenes of the public. While widows cry for the deaths of their spouses, presumably caused by the actions of the Crimson King, the “wise men'' (which is most likely a sarcastic or ironic description) are unaffected to the point where they are in a joking mood. This could be about all of the casualties caused by Passione, with multiple people being targeted and assassinated, leaving their families in shambles. However, the members of Passione themselves are indifferent to this, much like the “wise men” in the lyrics.
“I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax
The yellow jester does not play
But gently pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the crimson king, aah
Aah, aah
Aah, aah”
Due to the Crimson King’s influence, the ones in power are manipulating and coercing the public (or “puppets”) into doing their bidding. Using lies and deception (the “divining signs” that are assumedly a hoax), they are tricked and exploited by the “crimson king” and his court.
Diavolo is an equally deceptive and manipulative character, either withholding information or misdirecting the members of Passione into trusting him. He is rarely open about his intentions with the other characters. First, he tricks Bucciarati’s group into thinking that he was going to protect his daughter, only to have it revealed that he was only planning on murdering her. Next, we see he has an alter, Doppio, that he has been keeping in the dark for years about the true nature of their relationship. Then, even during the final fight, he refuses to fully reveal himself until he is forced, hiding in Mista’s body to incite confusion and mistrust among their group. He hides his identity and erases all traces of himself from public knowledge, with much of the information we do know being confusing and misdirecting in and of itself.
This connects to not only the final verse of the Court of the Crimson King, but also with the demonic symbolism already so heavily present in his character. Just like the ‘yellow jester’ and the Devil himself, Diavolo is manipulative to the people around him, seeing them less as other people and more as things to be avoided, or “puppets” that he can use to do his bidding. He is just as distrusting of others as they are to him, not even allowing the slightest detail about himself to be known by the public.
---
And in the end, all of this self-isolation and paranoia with Diavolo scrubbing his identity from history so thoroughly ends up becoming his biggest downfall. All of his power and significance came from his status as the leader of Passione, and when that status is taken away from him... he is left with nothing. There is nobody to remember him, no one to care about his defeat, and no one he can go to for help. Even as he panics and screams his identity out loud, it is completely insignificant.
Tumblr media
His character concludes as simply an unknown, unimportant man, doomed for what we assume to be eternal torture with no one alive to care in the slightest. This shows the most fatal flaw in Diavolo’s tactic of self-isolation, and caps off Vento Aureo’s major theme of friendship- it is vital to form bonds with other people in order to be remembered and have your memory be cherished. Because Diavolo drove everyone away to the point where he had no one to love or care about, he was forgotten.
This entire album is about several things, with each song being something different, but I believe that In the Court of the Crimson King’s most major theme and idea surrounds the concept of loneliness. Most if not all of its songs focus on this idea in some way- the 21st Century Schizoid Man is about Schizoid Personality Disorder and the harm that the Cold War will do on relationships and future generations, I Talk to the Wind is about talking to nobody with no one around to hear you, Epitaph describes a post-apocalyptic future with humanity in despair, Moonchild describes the loneliness of the night, and the Court of the Crimson King describes the one in power, pulling the strings behind it all. In that way, then, it’s fitting that Diavolo, who is meant to be the antithesis of Vento Aureo’s theme of love and friendship, would be based on an album ultimately about despair and isolation.
---
This finally closes off the record. As you can see, Diavolo’s character is very strongly intertwined with this album in more ways than one, and I think it’s clear that this is something that influenced him and Vento Aureo very much. I have no doubt that Araki took some inspiration from this album when making his character, alongside the part itself. Even if I potentially missed some stuff, I hope this was fairly interesting to go through (at least, I hope I captured some of the fascination I have with Diavolo and why I like him so much. I like talking about him a whole lot.)
Also go listen to King Crimson they’re really good.
