Nintendo Switch: Wanderlust Travel Stories
This has been on my list for a hot minute, I came across it and thought-that’s neat! And then it went off sale, and it just camped on my wish list. Well it went on sale again, and I thought-now is the time. Let’s jump in.
Tumblr media
In a bar, on the world's most remote island, a group of strangers share their stories. Step into their shoes and experience travel from distinct perspectives. Wanderlust Travel Stories is a book that you shape. If you’re seeking something a little bit different it is for you—and if you can read this, you have all you need to get started. More info here: https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/wanderlust-travel-stories-switch/
My Thoughts On The Game:
Price is $15, and while I don’t know enough about the game to say it is or is not worth that, I tend to wait for reading based games to go on sale. I don’t mind reading based games, but they are not everyone’s cup of tea. I nabbed this for $3 on sale, and yeah, at that price it is a steal that is mine. Gathering the supportive documentation for this post, the age verification and M rating surprised me.
Story is you are with a bunch of strangers in a bar on Easter Island. A group of 5 people around the world agree to share the journey that changed them the most. Then you get to a menu, a glob with the option to pick 5 different stories that will take you 11 hours in total to hear. You make choices along the way that curtail the story for your emotional response. The photography is breathtaking, and the music is very relaxing. Honestly, it is one of the better reading games I have seen thus far.
I was just talking to a cousin in-law today that was saying traveling is his vice, and honestly traveling usually coincides with major changing points in my life. Personally, I traveled out of state finding myself as a woman (not a child), I traveled after getting married to Europe, and honestly I love traveling. I prefer certain methods and locations over others, but you meet people and learn things and come home with an expanded perspective. Let me know your favorite place you travel to when playing this game!

I know you covered the Panzer Dragoon Remake a couple years back now, but have you played the original games? If so, what do you think of them? (I just beat Orta on the Xbox, which is a wicked good time, and it's made me curious to revisit the Saturn trilogy)
Playing the Remake is the most I've ever played a lot of these games. I never owned any of the original Panzer Dragoon games (I never saw them on shelves, and even when I did, I was just a broke kid).
And with emulation, that's often something where you "poke" at games but only ever maybe finish 0.5% of everything you touch. So I'd played Panzer Dragoon and Zwei, but never gave them my full, undivided attention, and never saw the credits roll. It's the difference between "testing out a Saturn emulator" and "sitting down to play Panzer Dragoon."
So, before Remake, I'd played maybe 30 minutes of either game. Now, since Remake, I've played the original Saturn version to completion (knowing how how short it is). Still haven't put much time in to Zwei, though. I streamed maybe 45 minutes or an hour to a friend on Discord earlier this year.
Never touched Saga. Never even looked at it. I don't want that to be a game I "poke at." When I play Panzer Dragoon Saga, I want it to be the sort of thing where I sit down and intend to finish it.
About a year, maybe two before Remake came out, a digital copy of Panzer Dragoon Orta was on sale on 360 for like $3, so I picked it up, and played an hour or two of it to contrast with Remake.
I think the thing about at least the first Panzer Dragoon game is that when you're only really sampling it, it feels incredibly simple. The game doesn't openly track score, there isn't dialog during play (like, say, Star Fox), and the game isn't especially difficult. So you're just kind of vibing and it's kind of boring. Like Rez, without the rhythm element.
I don't know if that ever really goes away, but I do know that Zwei is definitely more challenging and engaging, and Orta has all kinds of mechanics with switching dragon modes.
Anyway, I like it. I think I said this in my review for Panzer Dragoon Remake, but, I get the same vibe from that as I do, like, a Team Ico game. It's got that same kind of otherworldly melancholy of, like Ico, or The Last Guardian, or Shadow of the Colossus. It's not your typical fantasy world.
I still don't think the Forever Entertainment guys are very good at their remakes. House of the Dead was at least slightly more polished than Panzer Dragoon, but they still have kind of a sloppy, rough, devil-may-care attitude to how they handle these remakes. They've vowed to remake all of the Panzer Dragoon games, and frankly, I'm dreading what they'd do to Saga, assuming they ever get there.

If you ever misinterpret one of my posts to mean that I don't desperately and unconditionally love both Aziraphale and Crowley with every fibre of my being then just know you are DEAD wrong, sympathising with one does not mean I'm choosing sides I'm on their side

Here is an overview of the game, via Forever Entertainment:
After the premiere, there are planned free downloadable contents with additional characters and content!
Enter the mystical world, in which new challenges seek upon every corner! Play as the residents of the Magical Land, see the world with their eyes, and help them to unite the divided world together!

The game offers six different single-player modes and the possibility to play in local and online multiplayer!
Story Mode – Learn about the history of the Magical Land and its inhabitants while progressing through the classic story mode!

Survival Mode – Pop incoming waves of bubbles, and don’t let them get to the bottom of the screen!
Puzzle Mode – Pop the bubbles, so there’s none of them left on the screen! Get extra points for doing it in the most efficient way!
Path of Destiny – Progress through the map by winning minigames! Watch out for making mistakes, they can be painful!
Caravan Mode – Defeat your enemies one by one to set the highest score possible!

Holy shit this situation is so unreal. Someone posted the patreon letter on reddit and guess what? PATRONS GET SCREWED TOO.
so people who were already giving these guys a minimum $5 a month are now getting downgraded content AND being asked to subscribe for regular content too! What a fucking set of balls on the watcher team!
here is the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/youtubedrama/comments/1c7yxmq/comment/l0c3fu2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
I also saved a copy in case it gets removed because WOW. For them to shaft us plebes is one thing. But for them to shaft the real ones, who were putting their faith and money in their company already? (/s obviously no one should be shafted and yet...) WHOMST thought this was a good idea???
ALSO I just found out that by the time I joined the circus they had walked it back but apparently ALL their videos were privated this morning and the intent WAS to remove content from youtube until the backlash started.
AND Steven Lim is being incredibly salty and rude about it on instagram because he doesn't like how many people watching them aren't rich and fuck us I guess. FUCK these clowns. eta: Steven Lim's post has nothing outrageous in it, other than marketing. People are making things up in the comments of the various posts. Someone is claiming a cat account is the social media manager and other off the rails things. It's easy to get riled up in this kind of drama but I don't want to spread false information.
Also Steven may have been spearheading this idea, but the other two owners of the company had to agree. As I'm reading more threads I'm seeing a pattern and I don't like this piling on one guy just because he isn't a ghoul boy. Be fair, they all pulled that gold-flaked lever together.
