#BookReviewTour ~ The Godmother by Jane E. James @jane_e_james @ZooloosBT @JoffeBooks
My Thoughts This psychological thriller deals with the perspectives of best friends Maddie and Zoe, who are not only friends but also go through layers of relationships and personal issues. Maddie is troubled with problems in her marriage and her kid’s safety, and Zoe struggles with the war inside herself. Some of these twists are easy to predict, and others can be a surprise. The storytelling…

if i think about the hunger games in peeta's perspective i WILL start sobbing
#imagine you're a boy who's going to die. you're in love with the girl you've been watching from afar. you know your fate.#you just want to help her‚ but then there's the announcement and she's here in front of you‚ kissing you‚ risking her life for you and you#think‚ i could live and i could love. you think she loves you when she hands you the berries‚ when she puts them in her mouth.#then you both survive and you go back home and nothing is real anymore. you have nothing. no family. no friends. no love. just an empty#house. a drunk for a neighbor. the love of your life walking into somebody else's arms. you think‚ i survived the games. i could survive#this. and you also think‚ i should've bit down on those berries‚ should've felt the juice burst before i died.#and then the third quarter quell announcement rings in your ears and you think‚ she will live and i will die as i should have in the first#place. the girl you love kisses you on the beach and somewhere you heart stirs and your mind revolts and you savor every touch she has ever#given to you‚ in front of the cameras and off. because you are a tribute and you are always being watched and snow's presence looms and#you think‚ i know she cares. but you get taken. you get drugged. you get tortured‚ your mind altered. the girl is a mutt‚ a murderer. she's#everything you despise‚ your mind stirs. your heart revolts. you gain more awareness but cannot distinguish reality from fiction and you#have never known katniss' love. the war ends. you heal. you come home. you plant primrose for her. years down the line‚ you grow in love#more than you thought possible. but some days‚ you cannot tell fiction from reality so you ask the love of your life‚ you love me.#real or not real? and she says‚ real‚ and kisses you.#and you sigh and kiss her back and revel in this. a home. a life. a love.#lit#the hunger games#everlark#otp: real or not real?#katniss everdeen#peeta mellark#text#tais toi lys#thgpost

Tree of Lives by Elizabeth Garden. My Thoughts and Reviews.
Tree of Lives by Elizabeth Garden. My Thoughts and Reviews. #IARTG #Fiction #ChildhoodTrauma #MentalIllness @BookGal
I’ll start by saying, this is a book that may take you a few chapters to get into to. I’ve said that about a lot of books but it’s just how some need to be to get a reader to understand what’s to come later. That being said, once you get to the guts, you get going. I was asked if I’d do a review of Tree of Lives by Elizabeth Garden without the person doing the requesting knowing how appropriate…

JUS BREATHE by B. Lynn Carter - Black Historical Fiction, 1960s Historical Fiction, Family Life Fiction
JUS BREATHE by B. Lynn Carter – Black Historical Fiction, 1960s Historical Fiction, Family Life Fiction
A young woman strives to survive without a home, even as she must fight herself and her instincts, in Jus Breathe by B. Lynn Carter. “It’s more like I walked away,” I said, fractured memories of the day I left surging into my mind. “My mother married herself a husband. It’s like the tale of the evil stepfather, I guess.” The words were spilling out. “On the first day that we moved in with him,…

Book Review: My Secret to Keep by Barbara Conrey
Book Review: My Secret to Keep by Barbara Conrey
My Secret to Keep is the second novel by Barbara Conrey, who writes lovely women’s fiction. The book spans decades in the life of Maggie Bryan. She expects to follow the route of virtually every woman in her old-fashioned hometown: finish high school, marry, perhaps work in a factory, and eventually have children. Her plans go astray at age sixteen: she falls in love with Niko and gets pregnant.…

Audiobook Review: Long Bright River by Liz Moore
Long Bright River debuted in 2020. It is narrated by Allyson Ryan.
Tumblr media
This book has been classified as a mystery/thriller and as family life fiction. We have it in print and ebook formats, as well as audiobook.
There is a lot of back story to this novel, and it jumps between the past and present, but the time periods are differentiated by chapters and the author makes it very clear which time period each chapter represents.
I found the mystery/thriller part of this work lacking and anti-climactic. It is, however, an engaging book about families and family dynamics. It focuses on two sisters, Kacey and Mickey, raised in poverty by their grandmother. One sister "makes it" and the other ends up experiencing homelessness and drug addiction. Their lives couldn't be more different.
The story is set in Philadelphia. I really don't know much about this city but the various neighborhoods were well described. I liked the writing style Moore used, but the plot was a little slow to move along in the middle of the book.
Allyson Ryan does a mediocre job narrating. I didn't care for the way the different characters were voiced.
Overall this book was mediocre, but I'd probably give the author another try with a different novel.

please don't mistake silence for hatred. please don't mistake unanswered plotting messages as indifference, or a lack of enthusiasm towards you. considering the ages of most roleplayers, many of us have bills to pay, families to take care of, medical conditions to treat, appointments to make, classes to take, homes to clean, and lives to live away from the computer that are far, far more important than writing on tumblr — life has a tendency to get in the way of hobbies and fun things like this. be patient with your fellow writers. if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. of course you can set your boundaries, keep your space comfortable, and softblock whoever you wish, but do so while recognizing it's probably not hatred or apathy that keeps them from leaping into your dms with message after message. they probably love this hobby just as much as you... but sometimes life gets in the way.

I’ve mentioned it before but I’m a fucking sucker for unhealthy dependent relationships. There’s just something about them that is so. Chef’s kiss 👌
Anyway I’m still thinking about how Law was so attached to Cora and was so traumatized by his death that he literally devoted thirteen YEARS of his life to revenge killing Doflamingo. Even though all Cora ever wanted was for Law to just be free and live his life happily. And Law spending all his time in a hateful revenge spiral is literally the exact OPPOSITE of what Cora wanted for him. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE. If the thirteen years of endless devotion to avenging his savior wasn’t enough Law 1. Named his pirate crew the Heart Pirates in honor of Cora, 2. Covered himself in permanent heart-themed tattoos in honor of Cora, and 3. Fashioned his Jolly Roger to be a mockery of Doflamingo’s and ALSO to honor Cora. Homie is a walking memorial for a man he only really knew for six months and again crafted the most intricate plan known to mankind to murder Cora’s killer. Because losing Cora fucked him up THAT much. Because even though Cora set him free, the moment Doflamingo shot him Law was chained to the memory of a man who no longer existed. Law literally fashioned his entire life down to his own appearance after Cora and it makes me so insane. I cannot even imagine what went through his head after Dressrosa I mean how do you move on after a thirteen year grudge is put to rest. What is he supposed to do now. Avenging Cora was literally his entire existence, his entire reason for living for half of his life. He needs therapy probably. If Cora somehow ever did come back to life Law would lose his fucking mind. The dependency is SO unhealthy and I am SO here for it

12 Questions with Marcia Peck, author of Water Music.
12 Questions with Marcia Peck, author of Water Music. #MondayBlogs #IARTG #BYNR #Fiction #FamilyLife #HistoricalFiction @Bookgal
The bridge at Sagamore was closed when we got there that summer of 1956. We had to cross the canal at Buzzards Bay over the only other roadway that tethered Cape Cod to the mainland. Thus twelve-year-old Lily Grainger, while safe from ‘communists and the Pope,’ finds her family suddenly adrift. That was the summer the Andrea Doria sank, pilot whales stranded, and Lily’s father built a house he…
