please don't mistake silence for hatred. please don't mistake unanswered plotting messages as indifference, or a lack of enthusiasm towards you. considering the ages of most roleplayers, many of us have bills to pay, families to take care of, medical conditions to treat, appointments to make, classes to take, homes to clean, and lives to live away from the computer that are far, far more important than writing on tumblr — life has a tendency to get in the way of hobbies and fun things like this. be patient with your fellow writers. if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. of course you can set your boundaries, keep your space comfortable, and softblock whoever you wish, but do so while recognizing it's probably not hatred or apathy that keeps them from leaping into your dms with message after message. they probably love this hobby just as much as you... but sometimes life gets in the way.

REBLOG IF YOU FEEL THE SAME:
If you send me a meme and I answer it, you aren’t obligated to continue it -- but, if you like how it’s written & just want to reblog it to read on a rainy day ? Brother, I am 110% flattered & fully encourage you to do so ! Sometimes, it’s just fun to send in a one off thing to see how a muse responds and I am totally cool with not turning everything into a thread.

PSA: THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT BLACKLIST TAGGING
About Tumblr's Filtering Options:
Tumblr's tag filtering can only filter out the exact tag as is actually on the post.
Wildcards (*) do not work with tumblr's tag filtering system. As such, blacklisting #*example* to catch as many possible different tags as possible doesn't work. Even if it did, it would also then pose the same false positive issue as content filtering. Exact wording is important!
Correct spelling is necessary for tag filtering to work. Do not censor your tags.
Symbols and fancy copypaste fonts do not usually work in the tag filtering system.
Neither do they tend to work in URLs, meaning your tags might not work for navigation on your own blog.
Tumblr's post content filtering searches for exactly what the user asks to be filtered.
This may lead to false positives if the filtered word is part of another, unrelated word (example: posts about "writers" will be filtered for people who block "rite").
Tumblr's post content filtering is limited to 200 filtered words and/or phrases.
Both systems only support adding filters one at a time, and only to one system at a time. This can be both time-consuming and/or exhausting for some people to do, whereas it takes less time and energy for you to tag in a simplified manner.
for more information: Tag and Post Content Filtering [Tumblr Help Center]
----------
How Many, Many People Wish Content Warnings To Be Tagged:
______ tw
______ cw
______
Nothing more, and nothing less. If your posts even mention a thing, simply tag it as that thing, because each extra word you add to your tags is another tag that has to be filtered.
It is more helpful to have it tagged as the full content itself for filtering, and you state in the body of the post and/or in additional tags that it is only a mention, vaguely referenced, etc. rather than explicit descriptions and/or details.

How to Tag Trigger Warnings
👍 DO TAG IT LIKE THIS 👍
Tagging it like these makes it so much easier for Tumblr Savior (and various other programs or extensions) to properly block and hide these posts. I understand that aesthetics mean a lot to you but doing something as simple as this really goes a long way.
tw TRIGGER
TRIGGER tw
TRIGGER
👎 DO NOT TAG IT LIKE THIS 👎
Tagging it like these makes it next to impossible for Tumblr Savior (and various other programs or extensions) to properly block and hide these posts. Aesthetics might make you look cool but you know what isn't cool? Stinginess.

the “yes, and-” approach & why it’s important in rp.
i think most people are at least somewhat aware of the yes, and- approach, but for those who aren’t, here’s a quick rundown of it. the yes, and approach basically started out as a concept for improv comedy (but it is extremely useful for rp as well and we will get to that). the approach is basically that no matter what your fellow actor presents to you, you shall not negate it, but instead roll with it. now why is this important in the rp community? well, i’m sure we’ve all been there at some point, on one end or another. two people are rping together, but the thread doesn’t seem to go anywhere, and might even get dropped due to it. and it might look a little something like this:
muse one reply:  “hey, you don’t look so good. are you okay?” muse two reply: “yeah, i’m fine.” muse one reply: “are you sure?” muse two reply: “yeah. thanks though.” muse one reply: “okay, if you say so. i’m carla, by the way. what’s your name?” muse two reply: “kate.”
you probably get the gist, that muse two does not really engage in anything. they never ask questions, they don’t build on anything, they just reply to what has already been said. this way, all the focus is put on muse two, and none of the focus is put on muse one. this will get very difficult for muse one to work with after a few replies. a better way for muse two to write replies here, might be “yeah, i’m fine. i just got off of work, so i’m just a little tired. thank you, though. how are you?” or when muse one asks if they’re sure “no, actually, i got into a struggle” or something like that. this way, you have your muse build on the story and drive things forward and give muse one something to reply to.
you don’t necessarily have to have your muse say anything either, if they for various reasons don’t usually talk much. have them do something. think something. react to something. show something. anything that the other muse can then respond to.
but the yes, and- approach isn’t only useful in character, but out of character too!
when you want to interact with someone or just get to know them, it’s a good idea to use the yes, and- approach here, too. an example below of what happens if you don’t, which i’ve personally encountered a lot is this:
mun one: hello! wanna plot? mun two: sure, i’d love to! mun one: cool!
here, mun one is asking to plot, but when the other agrees, they don’t come with any ideas themselves, nor asks if the other mun has any ideas. i’ve seen this kind of interaction keep going for quite a bit, with mun two trying to make some effort, and mun one continuing to give one-word responses. this will make mun two feel like all the plotting responsibility is put on them. instead of simply writing short 1-5 word responses like ‘cool’ and ‘sounds great’ and ‘i’m down’, try to engage by following up with some questions, like: 1) what would you be interested in? 2) do you have a wishlist? 3) what verse and/or au should we have our muses interact in? 4) should we do something pre-established or do a first interaction? 5) how do you think your muse would react to xyz?
this way, you’re actively driving the conversation forwards. this is important that both muns do. after all, roleplaying, talking, as well as plotting is a two-way street. you kind of need both to put in some effort to get anywhere.

PSA: ⚠️ discord hacking ⚠️
If someone on discord texts you any variety of "Hey, can you help me? I accidentally reported you and now you have to reach out to [insert specific user they claim is part of discord's staff] to get this fixed or your account will be terminated" BLOCK THEM, that person's account was hacked and you're talking to the hacker.
So far their modus operandi seems to be texting people who the original owner of the account hasn't spoken to in a long time. But not always. So, be on the lookout, give your friends other ways to contact you than discord or write down their discord users to reach them quickly from a new user, if you lose your account to a hacker.
Not exactly this every time. I've seen other versions. But this is an example of what the 'email from discord' they'll send you claiming to be the proof of them reporting you will be like:

PSA FOR PORNBOTS
Tumblr media
So, there has been a new arrival to porn-bots. PLEASE keep in mind that if you get ANY new followers on your blog and they look like this? vv
Tumblr media
They are porn bots.
They follow a pattern with their username which often follows “first name - last name - 2 or 3 numbers”. This example comes from my personal blog after checking. They will ALWAYS have a profile picture of a woman and the names will ALWAYS be female names.
Keep this in mind just so you don’t get a sudden new wave of followers and think, “Oh! New partners!” Nope. Block them as SOON as you can when you get them.

PSA that you can still reblog from the original post if you click the negative space NEXT to the URL on desktop.
Is this intuitive? No, not in the slightest. Hopefully they walk it back. But reblogging from your moots isn't the only option.

if you have "original characters do not interact" or some form of anti-original character language in your rules... you are weak and will not survive the winter. you're missing out on unbelievably inventive characters created by your deeply passionate peers. you're missing out on so many types of interactions and unique perspectives not found in current mainstream media and the content it produces. there are so many talented people in the rpc with amazing original characters, and you're just writing them off for no reason. what a shame.

hey, tumblr rpc. we're a deeply parasocial space and we need to accept that!
i've noticed an uptick in people preferring to remain insular / friend focused or indicate to not immediately express familiarity, or say that they owe their mutuals nothing. and that's true! this isn't to say that you can't make true friendships, or come to know someone fully, in the roleplay community: i'm a part of it, and i've met friends i now have known for more than ten years. but there's a difference between people having conversations that aren't just about rp (e.g., personal life, depending on each other for support on tough times as the people involved slowly open up) for extended periods of time, and having casual conversations solely about rp over 6 - 7 months and going no further than that. to some people, that may be friendship, but the reality is that you really don't know that person, and we need to do better and respect that boundary. being mutuals isn't automatic friendship. seeing what your mutuals post on the dash is only a fraction of what they are actually like, and it is their prerogative to share as much or as little as they want. unfollowing, soft or hardblocking isn't personal. you cannot press people to share about themselves when they do not wish to. when people specify "i owe nobody nothing", it refers to acting on an unearned sense of familiarity. pursuing friendship is natural! but in online spaces where activity varies and people are now mostly offline due to busy personal lives, it's imperative we remain courteous and respectful. again, this is a parasocial environment, and that's fine. do better, get to know people naturally, and don't hold boundary establishing against them.

𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐎𝐔𝐓 !
This is a special shout out to y’all who write obscure muses. The ones who aren’t well known. The kind with no fandom, no fans. The sort of characters whose wiki page is barely a single paragraph. The muses who are from old television shows, comics, or movies that are no longer mainstream. That one background character that had little to no dialogue and was only seen for less than a minute or so.
The kind of muse you guys put so much love, attention, and care into. That you make yours.
That, no matter the lack of any sort of mainstream attention they have, you still write. And love.
You guys are absolutely amazing and, genuinely, I appreciate every single one of you. Rock on you fabulous writers!

MOBILE APP FRIENDLY PAGE LINKS
Adding https://href.li/? to the start of your urls to pages will force the tumblr app to treat the link like an offsite url, which will open the page inside the mobile browser.
This is best paired with responsive themes and/or page coding, which utilises modern HTML and other coding languages to enable a page to adapt to various screen resolutions, making the pages easier to view on a wider range of devices.
For those not versed in web development: What this prefix does is hides the referrer, which tells websites where the link you clicked to access their site is located.

THE TERM "DRABBLE"
So I can almost guarantee that a vast majority of us in the RPC have all written drabbles at one point or another, right? I know I definitely have way back when I first started RPing here on Tumblr back in 2014. But here's the thing ... most of the time the drabbles we're writing aren't actually drabbles ... they're more in-line with the term oneshots.
By definition, a drabble is a short fiction that consists of exactly 100 words as explained on Wikipedia. No more, no less. And, as said on Wikipedia, the reason for this is to, and I quote, "test the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space."
Then we have the term oneshot which means, by definition, "being the only one; not part of a series" according to Collins Dictionary and "a magazine, brochure, or the like that is published only one time, with no subsequent issues intended, usually containing articles and photographs devoted to one topical subject." according to Dictionary.com.
Now why did we all start calling them drabbles in the RPC instead of oneshots? IDK. I really don't. I have some hypotheses and theories on why but no actual confirmations or proof. All I know is that I think we ought to start using the term oneshot instead of drabble if it's more or less than 100 words but that's just me.

RP PSA
If you cannot read and follow someone's rules before following/interacting, then do not follow or interact with them. This is common sense, but apparently 95 percent of the community has lost all braincells or common sense.
People have their rules not only to protect themselves, but to protect you from content that you do not want to see. They also list important information like their age and their pronouns, things they need tagged, fandoms they won't interact with, etc. These need to be read before following or interacting.
As for the shipping bullshit, this applies to both sides of the spectrum. If someone lists that they do not want pro-ship following them, then do not follow if you are pro-ship. If someone lists that they do not want antis or anyone against pro-ship following them, then respect those wishes as well.
"BUT THEY'RE A HORRIBLE BLAH BLAH BLAH" get out. You are not welcome here.
Rules are not fucking optional. STOP TREATING THEM LIKE THEY ARE.
