personal under the cut; just ranting into the abyss as a black woman
Existing as a black person/black woman in your white family is so fuckin exhausting and isolating when your white family isn’t actively/consciously aware of how you have to move in the world as a black person/woman and how EVEN IN FAMILY, you are actively having to try and fit in to THEIR space.
I always have to switch language for them, I always have to conduct myself in a way that isn’t authentically me, I always have to make them be comfortable with ME by fitting into THEIR world.
Never once are they trying to understand me, never once are they trying to coordinate a space that is comfortable for ME in terms of whiteness & cultural differences. I am always forced to attempt to fit into their culture, their standards, their way of speaking, their WHITENESS.
And how I talk/dress/act/physically look like is always different and always going to BE different from how they talk/dress/act/physically look. I will always stand out like a sore thumb whether I try to or not (especially when im NOT trying to), and even though they won’t pointedly say anything, I can FEEL it. I can feel it in the way they observe me, in the way I struggle trying to adapt to their whiteness and the community of whiteness they bring/I have to exist in and interact with.
And it’s like… listen im not asking them to cook jollof rice or injera for Christmas or whatever. But they so clearly do not interact with non-white culture/people/worldly experiences unless it’s from a lens of white observance if that makes sense? Like the way they interact is very “man observing zoo animal” and not really having to acknowledge/understand that the world (western societies in particular) are extremely ostracizing and isolating because you don’t allow space for non-white experiences and realities to exist. And that YES, even if they are not ‘racist’, that they still ACTIVELY partake in this. We are always operating by your systems and your rules and your level and idea of comfort.

Maedhros built up a high pain resistance from Angband; particularly to the burning sensation. Considering how low he thinks of himself, it’s likely he expected the Silmaril to burn him. He didn’t think he was redemptive, he thought I can take it.
Part of why Maedhros acts so viciously is because that’s how life treated him. I can take it if my brothers die. I can take it if I’m damned for eternity. I can take it if everybody thinks I’m a monster.
He’s proud, and he’s suffering. He won’t back down, he will succeed or be martyred.

I can grin and bear a lot of Maedhros slander. But giving him, the OG Thingol hater, pre- Quenya ban and Silmaril Quest even, who is trying to unite all of Beleriand in his Union against Morgoth and who will kill himself to never have to relinquish the Silmaril he eventually retrieves, the exact same opinions as Thingol rather than Celegorm and Curufin on the Silmaril Quest is where I draw the line.
You really think the guy who's trying to get everyone he can on board is gonna be angry at C&C for trying to recruit a hidden (ergo useless to him) realm to his cause rather than the flip-flopping elves of Nargothrond and Finrod's willingness to throw his own brothers and their family oath and labour of their fathers SOUL-literally-under the bus for a stranger and the heiress of the guy who is content to sit and try to wait out Morgoth (who herself has no plans whatsoever to eventually help out with that or try to convince her father to chip in a bit)? Instead of Beren and Luthien's selfish "politics? what politics?" attitude or Thingol for the temerity to set the quest in the first place? On my hands and kness begging people to stop trying to strip Maedhros from his canonical demonstrated character traits, motivations, opinions, loyalties and strength of character (and pride. Dear lord let Maedhros have his canonical pride. Not everyone is secretly an insecure, self-loathing mess and there's NOTHING to suggest this in Maedhros in particular. Seems primarily like people tying his potential scars from Thangorodrim to self-worth issues, what a novel concept. The guy is the lynchpin holding the Noldor and their resistance together, he is performing and leading better than literally anyone else, there's nothing to be insecure and angsty ABOUT except general war-related unpleasantness).
If it was Maedhros he would have either killed Beren on the spot disguised as an unfortunate casualty once he made clear he wasn't dissaduated by the oath or smiled and waved him off to Angband with a "good luck" and imprisoned Luthien for negotiations with Thingol and a "took care of your suitor problem AND got your daughter safe in custody, what have you got for me in return?" when she came looking for Beren, be for real now.

Teenage girl experience
Mood: Excited, hopeful for future 🪩🎧
Tumblr media
Art by maeziii on insta <3
I think the new generation wants to be older, mature, and not have a childhood
I’ve seen videos of 3 year olds dressing like they’re 27, which this is the parents fault ofc.
But what I wanna say is, I think being a teenage girl is amazing… though my mental health can be very bad and we have to watch our for things most people don’t have to, it’s really a special thing.
I think what I want is to delete a bunch of social media, except keep my blog. Delete discord, Snapchat, Twitter, and TikTok. I like insta bc I love posting pics, and I love tumblr bc it’s like a little diary for other girls to relate to.
Maybe deleting social media might made me closed off from trends and jokes but I think deleting it will help me grow and be able to just enjoy my life in the moment.
I want to go to the movies, go swimming, do self care, and meet people. I’m sick of being in my room watching tikok, I’m aging myself by worrying about what others are doing instead of caring about myself…
I just wanna be a teenage girl with no cares in the world, save my money and go shopping.
Be able to talk to a boy without him wanting me for my body
Make friends and see the world
Im only 15 and I only have 5 more years until I’m no longer an adult, it’s a short amount of time, starting from today on I’ll just live my teenage dream with no cares, but being responsible of course.
I’ll update my thoughts on my page as I have been doing
Xoxo, Starlight

Dior Lip Oil Thoughts
Okay, I bought the lip Dior lip glow cherry lip oil in Pink a few weeks ago. I am sometimes (correction: always) easily influenced by beauty trends on tik tok, and I have officially finished the little vial.
Pros: it is very moisturizing! My lips felt smoother and well nourished while using. The doe foot applicator is oversized and well flocked so application felt very smooth. I also felt so fancy whipping this out to use! A little silly, but the psychological gratification is there if you are a person who enjoys luxury brands.
Neutral: it is not a oil, but also not a lip gloss as I hear so often claimed. It feels like a plush gel texture on the lips with an oily slip leftover on the lips after it wore off. On days my lips were cracked and chapped I loved the feel, but days they were more normal, I didn’t like or hate the texture. It is a typical level of shine or juicy appearance on the lips, nothing specials the tint is barely noticeable on bare lips, especially if your lips are more on the pigmented side. Like a whisper of color is what it translates as.
Cons: I hate to say this but OMG THE SMELLL!!!! It was horrendous! Now the lip oil is advertised as having cherry oil in the formulation, and it’s supposed to aid with hydration, conditioning, etc of your lips. I could not smell any actual real cherry scent at any point. When I first bought it I got a light whiff of a synthetic cherry which I didn’t mind as I loved lip smackers as a little girl. But as the days rolled on and I kept applying I noticed like a sickly sweet rotten odor always around me, that honestly made me feel sick to my stomach at times 🤢
I cleaned and zero odor sprayed everything within a couple of feet of me, to no avail! The rotten sweet smell kept taunting me! I could not figure out what the culprit was until my lovely wife leaned in to kiss me a few days in and said “oh you’re wearing that Dior aren’t you?” And I answered yes and asked why and she said “that stuff smells” before opting to kiss my cheek instead. Understandably devastated I grabbed my vial and took a deep whiff sniff test and just smelled the synthetic cherry again, but then lurking underneath was the sickly sweet rotten smell I had been plagued by! So I am assuming after opening the smell broke down after being exposed to air and my lips as I used it. Bad smells are a major deal breaker for me.
Verdict: I would not ever repurchase this. It’s nothing really special anyhow, and the gross smell did me in. Luckily I didn’t not spend all of my own money, on the lip oil, thanks to cashing in my Ulta points. I would have been way more angry had I shelled out $40 out of my own dollars completely.
I did hate finish the vial picture below:

An odd criticism/nitpick I have of Miraculous, is that for magical pieces of jewelry, the Miraculouses are at best bland.
Like the Bee and Tiger Miraculous look quite good, but every other one looks soooo boring
Miraculous Ladybug is a show thematically embedded with Fashion. It takes place in Paris, one of the world centres of fashion. Several characters in the show (Gabriel, Chloe, Marinette, Zoe, Juleka, Adrien, Audrey Bourgeois, etc) either work in the fashion industry, have shown great interest in the fashion industry, or are straight up fashion designers. Miraculous is also heavily inspired from Magical Girl Anime and Manga, a subgenre known for superfluous costuming and highly detailed-feminine clothing.
And what do we get at their magical jewels? C-grade level plastic toys that look like they came out of a Kinder Surprise.

To get into the first looks that were made for Barbie, we need to understand the beauty and fashion of 1959.
1950s fashion existed under that shadow of World War II. Women of the war era were hardy, hard-working, and practical. Fashion was also extremely practical, using as little rationed material as possible. The silhouette was boxy, masculine and almost military, with big broad shoulders and knee-length skirts. Rationing and austerity continued in the years immediately following the war, but then in 1947, something miraculous happened:
Tumblr media
(The Metropolitan Museum of Art)
Christian Dior created “The New Look.” Now okay, fashion in general had been leaning into this new silhouette and Dior was far from the only designer to be working with it, but his was the most copied and most iconic.
“The New Look” was a call back to the sumptuous femininity of the mid-Victorian era, bringing back tiny waists held in place by impossibly tight corsets and big, full skirts with crinolines and hoops.
The silhouette was a return to classic femininity, but the materials garments themselves were pure modernity: a practical ensemble for a wealthy woman-on-the-go who was lunching with her friends in Paris.
Looking back at Barbie’s 1959 looks, Christian Dior’s fingerprints are all over them, but I see plenty of other designers in the mix, as well. It’s actually very easy to find near-matches of almost all of Barbie’s 1959 looks with a cover of Vogue from the 1950s. Barbie from the get-go was an idealized woman who existed in a world that was separate from the middle-class American suburbs that the little girls who played with her lived in.
Tumblr media
Looking at classic first-run Barbie, there’s honestly not a whole lot to say about the bathing suit look. I mean, yeah, that’s what fashionable women wore to the beach in the 1950s. Her buxom curvy body fit the idealized standards epitomized by Marilyn Monroe.
Tumblr media
Her face has the heavy makeup that was worn by French fashion models of the time.
Tumblr media
Arched, heavily-styled brows, eyeshadow, slightly winged eyeliner, mascara, and of course perfect red lips with matching mani and pedi. One of my pet peeves about vintage style is when people wear winged eyeliner as “50s housewife glam.” NO. Your average middle class American Mrs. Homemaker was not wearing that kind of makeup. Winged eyeliner in the 50s only had a small wing that accentuated the eyelashes, and was generally only worn by the high-fashion crowd. Maybe on a special extra glamorous date with Mr. Husband, but not to a church potluck. Anyway, end of rant, but you see that’s what Barbie is trying to emulate.
Her hair, however is different: the poodle hairstyle was one favored by teenage girls. Seen here on the squeaky-clean America’s sweetheart, Debbie Reynolds:
Tumblr media
The playful, youthful hair pulls her back and keeps her from being *too* grown-up. It’s the first step in the balancing act that Barbie has always pulled off with aplomb: to represent adulthood without being too far out of reach of children’s imaginations.

Pick me rant. For the girls
Mood: Annoyed, disappointed 🎀🐚
Tumblr media
I’ll never understand pick me’s, why do you change once a guy comes into the room? Why do you put on a baby act? Why all a sudden do you make fun of your girl friends? Why all a sudden do you feel as though you need male validation? Girls will be with you forever, dudes will be with you until they get what they want. You change yourself because you think your real personality isn’t good enough for boys to like you… then why surround yourself with those men if you feel THAT insecure? You’re not ‘one of the guys’ in their eyes, you’re still a girl. Have some respect for yourself…
