I'm weird. I used to have intense salt cravings as a kid, so now when I crave salt I will just eat a bit of plain salt.
So when I find a 5-pack of interesting salts, I buy it.
I'm a little disappointed in the black sea salt. I was not expecting sulfur to be a component, and it tastes eggy & weird.
The flavor ones (black truffle, garlic & rosemary, & black sea salt) will be good in food. I'll stick to pink Himalayan & plain white salt to satisfy my cravings.

Every Basic Thing you Want to Know About Himalayan Salt with Truffle is Here
The Himalayan salt truffle is the latest in culinary trends, so much so that it is worth stocking up on them before they're all gobbled up by hungry enthusiasts. So what are Himalayan salt with truffles and should you buy Himalayan salt with truffle? The aptly named treat comes from many things, but to keep it concise, I will say this: Himalayan salt truffles are sea salted, deep-fried balls of powdered chocolate coated with a dusting of edible gold flakes. That may sound absurd or like a millionaire’s dream breakfast (because I am sure people who have the free time and money to eat like millionaires must be eating these), but I assure you it is transcendent.
The truffles are not for the faint of heart. Not only is the edible gold a $50-per-ounce extravagance, but the truffles themselves are pricey as well. The traditional Himalayan salt truffle weighs in at a whopping 1.2 ounces and costs $9. You will get one large, perfectly spherical truffle that has been coated with chocolate and looks like something you would see on a fancy dessert tray at Haven Rooftop—if that dessert were covered in gold.
The flavor is rich and decadent. The perfectly smooth, creamy chocolate shell breaks open easily to reveal the sea salt, but the chocolate and salt combine in a way that is somehow not overwhelming. Savor it—it is an experience you will not want to rush through and therefore you would certainly want to buy Himalayan salt with truffle.
However, there is a cost—this treat will not last long if you try it. The Himalayan salt truffle tastes like perfection and looks like it came from heaven (even if it actually came from Salt & Straw’s kitchen). Even though this isn't something you'd eat every day or even every year, it's worth saving up for the next time Salt & Straw decides to make some more of these addictive gems.
The beauty of them is the flavor variation. They're made with a base salt truffle that's covered in chocolate and then rolled in one of Salt & Straw's other signature flavors—saffron and black pepper, pink sea salt, honey cured lavender, or chestnut honey. The base truffle with just the chocolate coating is incredible enough, but when you add a bit of color and extra flavor to it, you really get a heavenly taste in every bite."
So if you want to buy Himalayan salt with truffle  to enjoy the rich flavor, then it is time to choose a reputable Florida-based online source offering the product at a good price. Rest assured that your satisfaction is guaranteed.

Salt
Salt, and all the many things I love about it.
Tumblr media
Salt is essential for life and saltiness is one of the basic human tastes. Such a vast topic, one can even find entire books dedicated to this very subject. One of the most well-know books being, “Salt, A World History,” by Mark Kurlansky, a fascinating read actually, should you be interested.
I am a salt fanatic. Salt, you learn in culinary school, can make or break your dish. Most people who…

The only-just realisation that white people have been using the word 'alternative' in the most banal and mildly-spun way possible forever... All these photos of white girls tagged 'Alternative pin-up'? Because they're sitting in a Tiki-flavoured room or just because they have like, one tattoo..? That's not alternative, for Lord's sakes. That's just flat out pin-up. Even the white girls with like, whole sleeves. Honestly. In this day and age, that's just straight pin-up too, pretty much. Just wait a couple more decades to be sure. Alternative my ass... alternative just means instead of putting salt and pepper on your eggs this morning you added some Himalayan Pink Salt and 5-coloured peppercorns instead of the regular ground black pepper and dashed some truffle oil over top.

Feeling Fancy
I’m not going to lie. I had high expectations for Dean & DeLuca. And I was a bit disappointed.
As I walked the charming streets of Georgetown in northwest D.C., I dreamed of the salt display that I would find behind Dean & DeLuca’s beautiful front doors. From the outside, the medium-sized market was chic and attractive—clearly matching Georgetown’s posh and bougie vibes.
The first thing that struck me about the inside of the store was the less-than-comfortable temperature. The AC was running full blast, its air smacking me in the face as I walked in. I should have brought a jacket.
It was a Saturday morning at 11am, and the store was entirely empty of customers. The staff was buzzing about the market, stocking food and organizing the butcher counter. I was the only customer in sight.
My eyes darted along the left side of the store, which was all prepared foods. On the opposite side, I spotted a modest section of spices & seasonings and headed towards the back of the store.
Tumblr media
The seasonings were set up on a wide metal shelf, flanked by a small display of sauces/condiments on the left and oils on the right. With a quick glance, the shelves were neatly organized. Each spice was packed tightly in, and the labels were all faced correctly (top right photo).
Although all the seasonings came in cute tins and jars, it was difficult to spot exactly what I was looking for. Many of the labels used cursive text or other fancy, swirly lettering. This font choice was quite pretty, but not at all practical. The colors of the labels were fairly uniform: mostly white bases with black or silver letters, and the occasional jar with beige or pastel shades.
Although some of the seasonings were alphabetical, the salt was randomly placed on the highest shelf (bottom right photo). On the far left, I noticed something I’d never even heard of: matcha salt! Upon seeing this, I did some quick research on my phone and learned that it is often used on top of fried foods like tempura or fish, or as a salty element in a cocktail. The more standard varieties of salt included: crystal salt, sea salt (French and regular), roasted garlic salt, and pink Himalayan salt. None of these salts came with built-in grinders.
Tumblr media
Most of the seasonings were made by Dean & DeLuca, but the salt had some other brands mixed in as well. What is the price of these bougie salts, you ask? Well that is a terrific question. A terrific question that I have absolutely no answer to.
That’s right. No price tags. Not a single price tag to be found on the entire seasoning shelf. Why? My theory is that each little jar costs an arm and a leg, so the store prefers to keep prices discreet. That seems like a bad marketing strategy in my opinion, but what do I know anyway.
All in all, Dean & DeLuca had some fun salts available. But, to be honest, I was expecting more. I thought I would find truffle salt, black salt, or even a salt sampler. Oh well!
Signing off for now.
-Lauren Petersil
