“Don’t. Move.” Spider repeated, very slowly. He stared at the unhinged way the Na’vi pierced into the recom’s very soul with golden arrows for eyes. “The kuru being severed is worse than death.” 

“Yup...” Quaritch said as he inhaled sharply and looked at Spider. Did he think this woman – this savage – would maim him? Torture him? Leave him wanting death? Never. At least, not until the moment he felt a sharp edge against his tswin. 

Spider stared into Rey’ka’s eyes. There was a dangerousness about them he’d never seen but what fed that fire was fear and a drive to protect. Him. Her eyes shot down to the bright orange cuffs on his wrists then ankles. She growled again and had no issue twisting Quaritch’s tswin painfully while forcing his head forward until he caught himself with his hands at Spider’s feet. His gut twisted seeing her act this way and, for some reason, Quaritch in this position. 

How many times had he manhandled him that way? Rey’ka that way? Those innocent islanders that way? Mentally, Spider was frozen. Was it seeing Quaritch in this victimized position the problem or that Rey’ka was driven to act this way? His father’s words about not always doing the right thing to get the right results came through his mind... 

This wasn’t Rey’ka...and he knew that. 

“I think...she wants you to uncuff me.” Spider said, watching for any sudden movements from his protector. He heard Quaritch growl and clench soil and grass in his fingers. Rey’ka let out a sharp hiss and jerked his head back, so father and son were staring at each other. “Just do it...! She doesn’t want to hurt you.” 

“The fuck she doesn’t...” Quaritch growled, the pain emanating through his skull from her tight grip. 

“We just wanted to be free...” Spider said, his chest tightening but continuing before Quaritch could spew any savior talk. “And not your way.” 

“You think this little stunt is going to get you freedom?” the colonel asked dangerously low. “I don’t take betrayal light, boy. Hasn’t that made it through your thick skull yet?” 

“I’ve never done anything to you...” Spider said, barely a whisper, "I didn’t even ask to be born...and I don’t owe you because I’m your son...”

Hythlodaeus

Not My Type | Alright | Cute | Adorable | Pretty | Gorgeous | LORD HAVE MERCY

So I personally, the player, find Hythlodaeus attractive, but not particularly gorgeous. What makes him so appealing to me that I latched on to the concept of Azem x Hades x Hythlodaeus is his personality. Yes, he's nice - but it's clear there's some bite beneath the smile. He's got just enough edgy snarkiness and playfulness in his banter with Emet-Selch that I find him very appealing personality-wise. Add in his dedication to his people and his willingness to step forth and serve even at the cost of his own soul and you have a very dangerous combination of <3.

what is Freytag's Triangle and why is it bad?

Oh you have opened a can of worms my friend @approximately20eggs I hope you’re ready

So everyone actually knows what Freytag’s triangle is in its most basic form (more response below the image because I’ve got thoughts):

It’s not like….. BAD, right? It’s just how Aristotle announced that you should set up a dramatic tragedy (based off of Oedipus the King) and everyone just kinda went “oh cool so that’s entirely what plot should be always and forever!” when like….. that works well and good for a dramatic tragedy, and CAN work for plot, but absolutely should not be how we base ALL PLOT in stories. And also, fiction transcends drama, does it not? We’ve like???? Moved past that???

Anyway, here’s a quote from Jane Alison’s Meander, Spiral, Explode that does an excellent job of explaining a lot of the feelings I’m trying to articulate:

“If you ask Google how to structure a story, your face will be hammered with pictures of arcs. And it is an elegant shape, especially when I translate arc to its natural form, a wave. Its rise and fall traces a motion we know in heartbeats, breaking surf, the sun passing overhead. There’s power in a wave, its sense of beginning, midpoint, and end: no wonder we fall into it in stories. But something that swells and tautens until climax, then collapses? Bit masculo-sexual, no? So many other patterns run through nature, tracing other deep motions in life. Why not draw on them, too?”

So yeah! It isn’t exactly that I think that Freytag’s triangle is bad, it’s just so western and so tired— and so many people are crafting such beautiful and interesting stories and it’s like…. Idk why are we listening to some dead white guy from thousands of years ago just because he was able to tell us how someone ELSE successfully constructed ONE story? Why do we not approach storytelling from a more individualistic point of view, because everyone is going to tell stories that speak to THEIR perspectives, so why not construct them in the way that best speaks to them instead of trying to force them into this pre-approved narrative structure?

It shits on like…. nonlinear storytelling, abstract storytelling, so many forms of storytelling that aren’t like the most basic Hero’s Journey of Storytelling (which also isn’t bad!!! IT HAS ITS PLACE!!) and I just think that if we were able to separate ourselves from that and not teach it as the end-all-be-all for people learning how to construct a plot!!

I can talk about this all day, this is truly just me barely skimming the surface of the matter, and if you’re interested in plot constructions that AREN’T arc/wave based, I can make an entire other post about that (and I’m MORE THAN HAPPY TO, this is literally what I’m going to school for!!)

I have but it was ages ago.

All sky children are born with a physical and mental age of between 9 - 15 (hence the height differences) and while their physical age doesn’t change, they do like to keep track of old and young they are getting. Plus their is some prestige based on what season you were born in.

But they keep track of their ages by moons, (Which would be considered a month) and seasons. (Four seasons equal one year is an example) So, from youngest to oldest.

Viola is 1 Moon Old (one month)

Mellp is 4 seasons old. (One year)

Brage is 13 seasons old. (Three years and three months)

Hunts is 27 seasons old (six years and nine months)

Ansel is 34 seasons old (eight years and six months)

Phobos is 42 seasons old (ten years and six months)

SPOILERS:

Sara and Skiddo's backstory:

This is basically the backstory of Sara being bullied, but a wild Skiddo befriended her and kept her company. The whole incident with the bullies happen, but no fire and none of them die except Skiddo uses Razor Leaf and scares them off. Skiddo ends up giving Sara a ride back to her home and she ends up caring for it.

Since her bullies are alive and she has a Pokémon, they end up asking for battles and Sara doesn't know how to. Skiddo shows off her skills (yes, Skiddo is a girl) and the bullies stop picking on Sara because DAMN this girl is tough! Soon the two become friends and partners. When Sara gets enrolled to being a researcher, she leaves Skiddo behind to help Celio out.

However, this was a mistake as Sara and Skiddo miss each other. Celio decides to send Skiddo over, and...that's all because that's in Chapter 5.

Wiatt and Oddity's backstory:

Wiatt met Oddity a year prior to the series. Oddity was an Eevee who learned weird attacks like Shadow Ball and the attacks the Let's Go!Eevee learns. Oddity was shy and didn't want to be near humans, but Wiatt was curious about the Evolution Pokémon. At some point, Wiatt saw Oddity in a rough battle, and was able to help him escape and while he was hurt Oddity was injured pretty badly. He took him to the Pokemon Center and Oddity gave humans another chance.

Wiatt named him Oddity due to his weird move sets and how he can't evolve for whatever reason. The red scarf he wears was Wiatt's but gave it to him as a symbol of friendship.

Also random FUN FACT: Oddity does have a Pokeball, but prefers to be out of it.

17. How obsessively do you sit and stare at your fic after you've just posted and wait for feedback?

Oof so this is where I make my confession — the answer is VERY obsessively.

I swipe to refresh for hours — between meetings, between gym reps, half-asleep in the middle of the night — checking to see if the kudos and views go up, and I get such a serotonin boost when I get comment notifications in my inbox. ^_^;

So yeah, I definitely experience also the opposite — getting bummed/down when there’s little engagement. I don’t want to say that to guilt anyone into validating me haha but I know it’s a fairly universal fic writer experience too! The AO3 subreddit has been a nice place to know I’m not alone in that. And it’s also something I’m working on for myself!

Honestly, as a newer author I feel so lucky to get any engagement at all! Especially after my very first fic was a long fic in a small fandom. Writing for BG3 been a very different experience for sure!

43. Talk about a positive experience with fanfiction or the fanfiction community that you will always remember.

I have felt really blessed to have had so many things to smile about — especially ever since rejoining tumblr. I wish I had done it sooner! I’ve found a little community here with readers, shout out especially to those I’ve gotten to chat and ramble with: @avashnea, @lumienyx, @the-cutest-deviant, @thetoastyurge, @agent-jaselin , and @kasumitanart.

I’m going to feel bad for missing anyone because I’m not confident about matching readers’ AO3 names to their tumblr names, but I’ve also been so grateful for @autumnlassitude, @grovyrosegirl, @chamtong, as well as a couple of the others listed earlier for so often leaving enthusiastic comments with every update.

If I didn’t mention you but you know you’re a recurring reader, it wasn’t intentional! Please introduce yourself in the comments so I know who you are! :D I wish I could thank you all individually. ❤️

One positive experience in particular was towards the beginning of my tumblr return when I decided to read a fic of a mutual, touch too much by @lumienyx.

I really loved it and it was the perfect comfort fic that I needed after some post-Mirror, mirror burnout (and generally a stressful week.) After I commented, they quickly replied so sweetly and enthusiastically, mentioning that Tipping the Scales was part of what inspired them to write the fic in the first place! I think I actually got teary-eyed to learn that someone not only loved what I wrote, but was inspired by it!

We then ended up chatting for hours (until like 3 or 4 AM my time haha) and I was just so excited to realize I had truly found my people on here.

So thank you, @lumienyx. :’) 💙 You were exactly who I needed to meet and chat with during the height of writing burnout!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't really write angst but I guess the lil spooky 500 word vamp Eddie fic I wrote could be considered an angsty ending since it's open to interpretation Awakened I Have Become

8. Do you get hate on fics? No I haven't really! The only annoying things I've seen are people complaining about the smut at the end of the bodyswap fic (You're the Ultimate)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Yes! Must have smut! I'm a fairly vanilla person myself, so I don't really veer into kinky stuff in my own writing. I like sex where the characters are having fun, some silly stuff happening is always good. I love Virgin Eddie & Bottom Eddie, so I write that a lot, but they usually switch it up in pretty much everything I write.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No I haven't! I think cross overs can be fun but I don't think I'll ever write one.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Nope!! I've seen it happen to friends though and it really sucks.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No, but that would be so cool! I'm always open to people translating or creating something based on my fics!!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet! But @glitterfang and I keep talking about it!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Oh god, my brain is so full of Steddie... are there other ships? hahahaha

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Right now I'm staring at my Steddie dads fic that I started for Steddie Week and it kinda grew legs... I've been feeling guilty that I haven't finished it, I'll either have to keep it short (3 chapters like I originally planned) and end it more abruptly, or I'll need to brainstorm and expand it. but I DO fully intend to finish it! I just feel shitty that I haven't yet and it keeps slipping my mind. We Part To Meet Again here it is in case you want to read it without ever knowing when it's gonna be updated hahahah *cue everyone running away screaming*

16. What are your writing strengths? Oh god, ask someone else, I don't know!!

Spider experienced brain damage in the machine they used to read his mind to find Jake Sully that’s caused a split personality. This other Spider, who goes by Miles, is very angry and dangerous to those around him. He doesn’t like being touched because he wants complete control over his own body. No more being manhandled or thrown around against his will.

Look. Not going to lie. Emet-Selch is a lovely man, both as Solus and as Hades. More, I appreciate his nuances. I appreciate his conviction. I appreciate his dedication. And I understand that he is not evil by nature, but from what he sees as necessity. His personality is as attractive to me as his looks. There's a reason in my Azem x Hades x Hythlodaeus AU that Mnemosyne and Hythlodaeus love each other, but it's she and Hades who are absolutely in love.

Hi! Here's a random question: which is your fave fic you've written and why? 🤗

You know, favourite is a hard metric. There's the story I'm proudest of, or the story I worked the hardest on, or the story I wanted to tell the most, but a straight up favourite?

I'm gonna say Night of the Soul. Mostly because I really, really like how well it ended up working. Originally I was going to do it from 60's POV, but doing it from Hank's worked so much better. And I'm a terrible person and still enjoy the idea.

for the hermit swap ask game, maybe something with moss xisuma ^-^ think theres some cool directions that could go ^-^

Most players manifested a connection to a mob, so it was a bit of a surprise for Xisuma to wake up after an update and realize he'd become one with the moss.

It suited him, though. The green added some lovely texture and gentleness to his otherwise intimidating armor, and the already beautiful lush caves held an even deeper joy for him. There was nothing quite like sinking a hand, or his whole body, into the thick, verdant green to feel across the whole server, an ever-expanding network that served no purpose other than to exist and be gathered.

(It was also a great way to prank people, lying beneath the surface until another Hermit walked nearby, then popping up to call hello and watch them shriek.)

What was most surprising about the whole thing, though, is that it was helpful. As moss made its way into everyone's builds, so too did Xisuma's awareness, when he spread it out. For the sake of privacy, he avoided his friends' bases when merging with his origin—but when someone had a problem, he could fall into the mound of moss he'd made his bed, seek out the Hermit in question, and come far more prepared than he once would have. If nothing else, it took a lot of stress off his mind, and he would never be annoyed with that.

Yes, the moss suited him well.
