Future Career Pick A Card
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Directions: Take 3 Mindful Breaths and Pick The Work Set-Up That Attracts You The Most!
Disclaimer: This is a general reading. It may not resonate for everyone and that's okay! If you are having trouble choosing a pile, take a minute to relax and then try again.
Pile One:
Tumblr media
What Career Path Is Pile One Looking To Go Into?
Judgment, 9 of Cups, 4 of Swords
I feel like this is my Legal Studies, Politics, and Healthcare Pile. A lot of you are looking to go into Law or careers where you feel as though you are doing the right thing. You may want to go into careers where you are representing people or being a voice of reason for someone. You all seem to be problem solvers or at least interested in conflict-resolution based careers. Those of you who chose this pile are probably all or nothing people. I don't think a lot of you have any Plan B's or C's. You probably decided very early on what you want to be or do and that's what your heart is set on. You are looking for a career that has everything that you want. A career that fits your wants and needs and is a source of fulfillment for you is ideal Pile One.
These Are Some Careers I See You All Looking To Go Into/Be: Lawyers, Judges, Administration, Healthcare (Doctor or Nurse, a Veterinarian as well), Legal Work, Therapist (Mental Health, Massage, Etc.), Yoga or Meditation Instructor? For some of you, I see jobs where you are the Middle Man like for example a Hiring Recruiter.
What Career Path Is Best For Pile One?
8 of Cups Rx, The High Priestess, Strength
Pile One, you need to go into a career path that you know you won't walk away from. A career path that is sustainable for YOU. Regardless of the pay or whatever other constraints there may be, you need to find a job that satisfies your soul and not just your financial or social needs. I said before how I think that you all may enjoy conflict-resolution careers. It would be best for you all to find a career from which you can learn from or solve problems within. You would likely excel in careers that involve caring for someone or something in some way, shape, or form.
These Are Some Careers I Think You Would Excel In: Healthcare (Doctor, Nurse, Vet, Psychiatrist, Psychologist) Detective Work, Professor or Teacher, Guru, Counselor, Medium, Psychic, Astrologer, Tarot Reader.
Significators: French, Frenchie, or French Tips, Aries, Spring Months (March, April, May), 20+, Dyed Hair, "Not Yet", 444, Libra, 7th House Placements (Specifically Mercury and Sun), Strong Pisces, 12th House Sun or Moon, Moon and Neptune Dominant, Leo or 5th House Placements.
Pile Two: (This Pile was very similar to Pile One. If you felt drawn to that Pile go and give it a read and see if it resonates!)
Tumblr media
What Career Path Is Pile Two Looking To Go Into?
5 of Swords Rx, The Star, The Wheel Of Fortune
The first thing I saw and heard was "Giving Back". This is my Humanitarian pile. A lot of you are likely studying or wanting to study Humanitarian Studies. You likely find yourself leaning towards careers or social endeavors that benefit not only yourself but the rest of the world as well. Your ultimate goal in a career is overcoming challenges, compromising or ending a conflict of some sort. You all want to change the world and give the up and coming generations inspiration and hope for a better world to live in. You want renewal. A fresh start.

Pile Two, you need to go into a career path where you have the opportunity to lead. A career path that offers you stability and structure. A career path that is practical and logical according to your own needs. All jobs will make you feel stress, but I would advise you to enter a career that provides you with the sanctuary you need to rest and recuperate. I feel like those of you who chose this pile get tired or burnt out pretty quick? Extroverts with low social betteries? It would do you well to enter into careers that you see yourself building a future off of. Additionally, for some of you I think jobs that are more hands on and interactive would be better for you. Careers that provide you with passion, action, and excitement!

What Career Path Is Pile Three Looking To Go Into?
Queen of Wands, Queen of Cups, Page of Cups Rx
Creative Workers. A lot of you who chose this pile may have struggles or are currently struggling with finding the career path that suits you. You WANT to do a certain career, but you may think that you NEED to do another career because the career you dream of is unrealistic or out of reach or maybe just doesn't fall into your life plans or budget. You are likely searching for a career that you have an emotional connection to. Although money is important to you, you're not really concerned too much about monetary matters, because you know that you can't be happy in a career that doesn't speak to you. You want a career that you get excited about being able to do, a career that allows you to feel as though you are in control of your own life. A lot of you want to work with kids and young people, I can tell.
These Are Some Careers I See You All Looking To Go Into/Be: Elementary School Teachers, Leaders of Some Kind, Child Counselors, Midwives, Nannies, Children's Book Authors, Music Teachers, Singers, Poets, Interior Design, Home Business (Maybe a Daycare), Family Therapist, Realtor or Real Estate. In contrast to Pile Two, there is a lot of Feminine Energy in this pile. You all may find yourselves in Female Dominated career paths and you may have an abundance of Feminine Energy in your chart.
What Career Path Is Best For Pile Three?
King of Swords, The Chariot, Justice
Pile Three, I would advise you all to go into career paths where you have structure and routine. A lot of you who chose this pile have very strong morals and values with all of this watery energy here. You are kind and empathetic but you are also logical and firm. You would do well in a position of authority, where you are allowed to demonstrate and enforce self-discipline and hardwork. You will likely be known for your candor and integrity in your careers pile three. You value honesty and fairness, and it will show regardless of what path you choose. You would thrive in careers that allow you to teach others about the wonders of the World, whatever that may mean to you.
These Are Some Careers and Career Titles I Think You Would Excel At: Counselors, Networking, Mediators, Influencers, Authors, Motivational Speakers, Auditors, Elementary School Teachers, Family Therapists, Behavior Technicians, Children's' Book Authors, Interior Design, Home Businesses, Real Estate.
Significators: "Soon", Cancer, Sagittarius, Gemini, 20+, Fire, Musician, 10th House Sun or Moon, 1st House Moon, Mercury in 9th House, 4th House Stellium, Water Dominant, Pisces Moon, Cancer Midheaven, Libra, Saturnians.

Jupiter in Taurus ♉ Transit 2024 (Part 2)
💰💎Luck ,Abundance ,Fortune & Spirituality
{Vedic Astrology}[From May 2024 - May 2025]
Tumblr media
⇝ Your Guide to Check Your Rising Sign > Refer Here
Leo ♌
Leo Ascendants, the transit of Jupiter into your 10th house will have a significant impact on your life. Not only will it aspect your sixth, fourth, and second houses, but it also rules your fifth and eighth houses. The fifth house governs areas such as children, love life, education, creativity, and the ability to take risks and have fun. On the other hand, the eighth house represents transformation and unexpected events.
During this one-year transit, the focus will be on your career and profession. As a result, many of you may experience job changes during this period. These changes could occur suddenly, such as losing your job, or they may involve making sudden adjustments. However, there is a high likelihood of quickly finding another job, so there is no need to worry.
I understand that many of you have been feeling stressed lately due to the presence of Rahu (north node) in the eighth house. However, during this time, you should not worry about your job security or career-related insecurities. Thanks to Jupiter's grace, there is a strong possibility of experiencing significant financial gains. Additionally, you will develop a mature approach towards your career and job. This transit will also provide you with wisdom on how to effectively manage your relationships with your co-workers and achieve a healthy work-life balance. You will be able to handle all your responsibilities, including taking care of your home.
Regardless of the changes you make in your career, whether they happen suddenly or not, rest assured that the decisions you make will ultimately benefit you. Spending quality time with your family will bring positivity into your life, and any disputes within family relationships may be resolved amicably. Your positive communication skills will leave those around you satisfied during this period.
Your wise advice may lead others to see you as a counselor, earning you respect within your family. Celebrations and auspicious events may take place in your home, and some of you may choose to redecorate with religious or spiritual items. Bringing health-improving elements into your home is also a possibility, but most importantly, you will find mental peace and domestic happiness during this one-year Transit.
Virgo ♍
Jupiter's transit through your ninth house is bringing positive energy to your life. It will aspect your Fifth, Third, and first house, bringing luck, wisdom, and stability. This is a fortunate time for you, especially after the stress of the previous year.
Prosperity and financial gains are on the horizon, and your father may also experience luck in financial matters. You will feel happier, calmer, and more respected by others. Your wisdom will increase, and you will feel more grounded.
This transit will activate the travel houses, focusing on religious or spiritual journeys. Your marriage and partnerships will also benefit from this positive energy. Single Virgos may find love, and those looking to start a family will have a positive time ahead.
If you are in fields like education, teaching, coaching, religion, sports, social media, or the arts, expect exceptional growth during this time. Jupiter's influence in the ninth house is truly bringing you the best results.
If you are a student aspiring to study abroad or pursue higher education in a foreign country, now is an opportune time for you. However, it is important to note that the main focus of this Transit is spirituality and Dharma, which means you may find yourself drawn towards exploring spirituality and religion. You might feel inclined to seek a guru or immerse yourself in reading books on these subjects, sparking a deep curiosity within you.
While there are various resources available, such as YouTube and social media, to learn about spirituality, I would advise you to stay connected to your Divine. By staying close to your faith, you will activate the positive energies of good luck and fortune in your life during this Transit.
Libra ♎
Jupiter's presence in your eighth house and its influence on your fourth, second, and twelfth houses will have a significant impact on your life, especially for those born under the sign of Libra. As the ruler of the sixth house, Jupiter governs your health, debts, loans, and competition. It also rules your second house, which is associated with your finances, family, the food you consume, and your speech.
During this transit, you can expect a transformation in various aspects of your life. Your mindset and approach to life will undergo a complete 180-degree shift. You will find yourself becoming slightly obsessed with how you handle your financial matters. This may lead you to research stocks, speculation, and investment opportunities in order to increase your financial gains.
Be prepared for potential high expenses, particularly in investments or home-related expenses. Additionally, you will start focusing on your health and may make significant changes to your lifestyle, including a complete overhaul of your diet, food choices, and habits. If you are prone to diseases such as diabetes, asthma, or thyroid issues, it is advisable to stay away from sugary sweet foods, despite an increased desire for them during this time.
You will also feel a strong attraction towards spirituality, and your intuition will be heightened. Pay close attention to any special dreams you have during this period, as they may hold valuable messages or guidance for your path ahead.
In terms of your family and relationships, it is crucial to approach any changes with a high level of maturity. Strive to gain the love and respect of your extended family members. Your speech and communication style will become calmer, wiser, and less sarcastic and critical. Overall, you can expect to experience domestic happiness and mental peace.
There may also be opportunities for significant financial gains, such as through inheritance or insurance settlements, especially if you have been waiting for such matters to be resolved. However, it is important to exercise caution when engaging in speculative activities, as losses are also possible during this period. Take this time to navigate these changes with care and mindfulness, and you will emerge with a newfound sense of stability and growth.
Scorpio ♏
During this transit, Jupiter will be moving through your 7th house and forming aspects with your 3rd, 11th, and 1st house. This means that your partnerships, such as marriage or business relationships, will come into focus. You will gain wisdom and insight into the nature of your relationships, including your spouse. This may lead you to make wise choices, such as breaking away from a relationship or disengaging from your partner.
If your birth chart shows any negative influences on your 7th house, there is a possibility of separation from your partner. On the other hand, if you are single, there is a high chance of marriage or the entrance of a new person into your life. This person may possess qualities of wisdom and purity. However, it's important to consider other planetary placements and influences on your 7th house, as they can alter the effects of Jupiter's transit.
During this time, you will receive a lot of respect from others. In your workplace, people may approach you for guidance or advice. There is also a possibility of financial rewards, and you may be tempted to start your own business or receive new opportunities.
This is the period a great opportunity to explore a new Business Partnership if that's something you're interested in. You have the drive and energy to kickstart new ventures, making it an ideal time to dive into the business world. If you're currently employed, expect financial rewards, recognition, and even promotions. Your personal growth shines through, impressing others with your mature mindset, problem-solving skills, and wisdom.
Your social circle will expand as you leave a positive impact on those around you. Your bond with siblings will strengthen as you find peaceful resolutions to any conflicts. Just remember to prioritize your health, especially with a tendency to gain weight due to unhealthy eating habits. Be cautious of indulging in sugary and fatty foods to avoid potential health issues related to Jupiter, such as diabetes, asthma, or thyroid problems.

you are the best thing that's ever been mine
for the @steddieholidaydrabbles warm up round 1 (prompt: high school or college AU) rated: T wc: 638 cw: n/a tags: established relationship, angst with a happy ending
--------------------------------------------------------------
Being with Eddie had been easy. Two years at college, pretty much sharing a dorm unofficially, studying together whenever they weren't working their shitty jobs, annoying Eddie's roommate Gareth constantly.
But when graduation came, and real life set in, they realized quickly that what they thought was hard was nothing.
They had a small apartment on the outskirts of town, rundown and barely worthy of the rent they had to pay, but it was theirs.
Steve managed to find a job at an elementary school as a guidance counselor right after graduation, but Eddie struggled for a while. It didn't seem like anyone was hiring for a music teacher, and he started to wonder if he'd made a mistake in his degree.
He thought he'd taken a safer route than just going into the music industry, or trying to, but clearly he'd been wrong.
"Baby, we're fine. I make enough to cover what we need, we just have to be on a tight budget," Steve told him after Eddie had explained how useless he felt not contributing to their bills yet.
They were lying on the couch, Eddie tense under Steve.
"But you shouldn't have to, Steve. I'm basically the same as the spider we refuse to kill in the shower," Eddie groaned.
"No you're not. You're trying to find a job and you're going to," Steve insisted.
"And if I don't?" Eddie said, pushing Steve off of him so he could stand up and pace. "If I end up searching for a job for months or years, how long until you get sick of having to support us both? How long until you kick me out because I can't give you what you want? We can't ever have a family on just your income in this shitty apartment."
"Eds, you won't be unemployed forever. We've got time."
But Eddie didn't want to listen.
He walked over to their window that opened onto a fire escape and climbed through it.
Steve saw that it was raining, but knew Eddie wasn't going to come inside until he was ready.
If Eddie had to be in the rain, then Steve was going to be with him.
Steve joined him a moment later, cringing slightly at the cold rain instantly soaking his clothes.
"You remember our senior year, when I was convinced I'd have to drop out because my social work for students professor hated me? I cried every night for three weeks about his class and his attitude. I was awful. But you listened to it all, held me through it all, helped me study for tests and prepare for my final presentation. You remember what you told me the day of the final?" Steve asked, keeping some distance between them while he spoke.
Eddie shook his head.
"You said that one hard class wasn't going to keep me from being what students need. You told me that I was going to be fine because I already cared about kids I don't even know yet, and anyone who couldn't see that was an idiot. And you told me you loved me for the first time."
Eddie looked over at him, brows furrowed, hair dripping wet from the rain.
"You loved me through a tough schedule, and being broke, and complaining about someone who ultimately didn't matter. You loved me when I was an asshole to you and everyone, you loved me when it was hard. Now it's my turn, okay? Let me love you through it all."
Eddie didn't answer for a moment, but then he leaned in and kissed Steve's forehead gently.
"I never thought I'd have someone who loved me like this. You're the best part of my life, you know that?"
"And you're mine," Steve replied, kissing him on the lips as the rain continued to fall.

Thinking of switching careers to IT? ☕
Tumblr media
This guide discusses the learning options: bootcamps, schools, or self-learning
Note: this guide may be a bit lengthy, so I suggest taking your time to read it thoroughly. Just a heads up, I haven't included specific program names or detailed IT roles info here. Instead, the focus is on guiding you to make a well-informed decision for your career transition. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and dive into the guide at your own pace ☕
So which option is good? Any of those options is fine. It's all about what works the best for you. Consider this: your ultimate goal is to secure a job once you've successfully completed your IT studies, right? From the perspective of hiring managers and recruiters, what they care about is your resume, experience, and skills. They will assess whether you are capable of fulfilling the job requirements. Your attitude and personality can also play a role in their decision-making process, which is a topic we can explore another time.
When it comes to switching careers, acquiring new skills is a logical step. Now, the question is: what is your preferred learning style? In the STEM field (specifically IT, in this case), it is so important to be able to consume information effectively as you study IT!
If you find that you learn best with a structured schedule, where you don't have to rely solely on self-discipline, then enrolling in a bootcamp or school is recommended. Note: Even during your studies at a bootcamp or school, you still will need to engage in self-teaching. It's a *MUST*, good practice to maintain this mindset even after you secure an IT job, especially if it involves a lot of developing or deploying. [ Bootcamps & Schools Options ]
There are a few factors to consider: - Costs Generally, bootcamps are more affordable than traditional schools. However, both options may offer scholarships, so it's worth exploring those opportunities. Look into third-party scholarships that may be available. If you have a disability and reside in the US, it would be beneficial to speak with a counselor from Vocational Rehabilitation. Non-profit organizations can also provide support and assistance to individuals interested in returning to education. Studying abroad is another option worth considering. Personally, I chose to study abroad in the UK due to the significantly more affordable tuition fees compared to the US, and because I had a desire to obtain a master's degree in another country. - Instructors' teaching styles It's important to note that not all IT instructors excel at effectively communicating with new IT students. To avoid encountering this issue, do some detective work. Find out who will be teaching you and check out their lectures. Don't hesitate to ask the program manager if you can meet your potential lecturer (ideally before making a decision). Prepare a list of questions to ask your potential lecturer during the meeting. Pay attention to how they explain concepts. If their technical jargon is difficult to understand, they may not be the right instructor for you. Remember, this doesn't reflect your intelligence. It's a matter of their self-awareness. I strongly advise against choosing this kind of an instructor from my experience. - Lessons There are numerous IT job types available, and in a bootcamp, you may not have the opportunity to explore all of them. Bootcamps often focus on specialized programs, sometimes even covering less popular technologies (yes, this is definitely a concern). So you should research IT fields, and once, you've decided on a specific field, take the time to research job titles and similar roles on LinkedIn. Pay close attention to job descriptions and requirements. Create a list of the high-demand skills for those positions. This will help you narrow down your choices when selecting a bootcamp program or school. Look for programs that teach the skills you need based on your research. [ Self-Teaching Option ] You are your own trainer, and you get to design your own personalized learning experience. This option is great if you do not have the luxury to pay out of pocket for a program. It is absolutely not looked down upon by employers. In fact, it is considered one of the essential job skills that employers typically look for in a job applicant. To make a solid entry into the IT field, I highly recommend obtaining certifications and undertaking project-based learning. It's important to focus on certifications and projects that align with the specific roles you aspire to have. Take the time to explore different fields within IT to discover your interests, and then compile a list of relevant learning materials or bookmark tutorial videos. Please be sure to verify that the resources you choose are up to date and not outdated, as IT is always evolving. "Wait, but what about a degree?" This approach is really just aimed at fulfilling the job requirements. Many IT candidates have successfully passed interviews without possessing a degree. Many hiring managers prioritize your ability to learn and apply the required skills. Showcasing your projects on your resume or demonstrating your skills during a technical interview holds more significance. Even if you don't possess the exact skills they're seeking, emphasizing your transferable skills will show interviewers that you are capable of learning and adapting.

yooo do u have any headcanons for what the girls (maybe even mc idk) would do after highschool?
My most confident answer is that I think Sayori would be a teacher. Maybe a daycare worker? I'd even say a child psychologist/school counselor. I've said this before, but I think Sayori would be amazing with kids, and would probably find working with children very gratifying. She's patient, she's compassionate, and she's very receptive. She'd be spending a lot of her time helping children struggling with similar issues that she did when she was young, and I think she'd really take pride in that.
As for her journey to get there after high school, I feel like she'd probably struggle a lot with college, but would eventually find her footing, especially with her support network around her. I don't think she'd want to spend a terribly long period of time getting multiple degrees and fighting for a super good position, either; I get the sense she'd want to start working as soon as possible, which might come back to bite her depending on which career she chooses...
Monika's a bit tough to say. It feels like a bit of a cop-out to say she'd take a coding job, but I do think that's a possibility. I also don't really think something like being a concert pianist would be something she'd seriously consider; in the first place, doing that as a career is inherently volatile, in the second, I don't think Monika would ever really have the confidence in herself to consider playing professionally. I'd imagine one of her friends would probably encourage her to try it, and although she might make some money off of a few gigs, it's always a side thing, and never something she'd consider diving headfirst into.
I get the sense that Monika's high standards for herself probably aren't entirely self-imposed. Girl's got gifted kid syndrome out the nose; I think if any of the girls were seriously considering college, Monika would be the one who felt the most pressure to get in and succeed. Conversely, I think of any of them that would go to college, she would have the absolute worst experience.
Maybe she goes in for a premed program. Maybe law. Maybe something in STEM that is similarly difficult to get through. Something with a high bar to pass, something with a lot of pressure riding on her success. Something likely to put a lot of debt over her head even with scholarships.
And under all of that pressure, she snaps. Maybe she drops out. Maybe she takes a year off. Maybe she fails an entire semester. Regardless, I think she's wont to put a whole lot of pressure onto herself, and then have a nervous breakdown when she can't keep it together, regardless of her support network. I think she'd probably end up in a period where she'd have to reevaluate what her actual goal in life is.
And I think she'd ultimately find it, and be significantly more satisfied with the result than if she just stuck it out wherever she was.
I don't really think Yuri would have very high aspirations. I think she'd hate working in something like fast food or retail, but then again she probably wouldn't enjoy working in general, especially in customer facing environments. Maybe something like a bookstore or coffee shop would be more tolerable. It's kinda funny because I have an old concept of a mild self-insert crackfic which involves Yuri coming to work at my Subway (which is a further offshoot of an old concept of Basil from Omori working at my Subway), so maybe she'd work there.
I think her dream job would be as a novelist, and while I don't really think she'd probably end up being some super famous writer, I do think she'd probably put enough effort into an original work that it would be passable. Now, convincing her to send it to a publisher? Hahaha good luck. In fact, I doubt she'd show anyone for a long, long time. But, with some encouragement, she might self-publish on, like, Amazon. Maybe start a patreon or something related to it, idk. Either way, she'd probably see it as a side-gig similarly to Monika.
I think Natsuki would be in a similar position to Yuri, though she'd have much more dislike of working retail or food-service just because she hates customer service explicitly and lacks a lot of the patience for it. I think there's a number of reasons why Natsuki wouldn't have particularly high aspirations for herself, but that's another story. She'd probably be quick about trying to get into her own place, though.
I think Natsuki would be a Twitch streamer. Completely deadass, I think of anyone in the group she's the most likely, and I think she'd go for it. I think she'd be a Vtuber, and she'd go all in on making her own model. I think that again, this would all be more of a side-gig, but she'd probably enjoy herself doing it, even if she had trouble finding her footing at first.
MC would probably work the most dead-end jobs between high school and a more stable career. I think he'd probably go to college for compsci just because he's a generic man (although they don't call them programmer socks for nothing ;)) and then get a shitty IT helpdesk job which is mostly fixing printers and installing drivers.

Chapter 2
Summary: Flashback to your breakup with Timothée your senior year
C/W: Breakup
A/N: I have nothing against stay-at-home parents and homemakers. Both are their own noble full-time jobs. This is just a story about a young girl wanting to break free. And yes, the irony is not lost on me that the reader ultimately ends up in the exact situation she was running from in the first place.
Catch up on the previous chapter here.
<><><><><>
Life was stagnant in your small hometown in Tennessee. There was nothing to do, nothing to see except trees and buildings that had been around since the 1800s. The height of entertainment for teens like you was pasture parties or meeting your friends up at the Sonic drive-in for "happy hour." After high school, the boys usually either worked for the local steel mill or lumber yard. They may opt to continue their education through the area trade schools, but that was the exception, not the rule. The girls...well, the girls typically got married and had babies.
The townspeople were closed-minded traditionalists and stuck in old habits. Families, including yours, had lived there for generations. You were lucky to even find someone to date who you weren't related to by blood or marriage, and that was only because Timothée's family was a more recent addition to the town census.
Tumblr media
You yearned for more. You were made for more. You felt it in your bones. You had no desire to be a doctor or a nurse, but you were fascinated by biology classes and a whiz in physics. And you wanted to help people. The school counselor fanned the flames by introducing you to biomedical engineering as a potential degree program.
You wore a groove in your dirt driveway with the number of times you walked to and from the mailbox every day, multiple times a day. The response letters from your numerous college applications were due in any time now. Your efforts usually yielded nothing except for bills or ads for your parents. But today, there was white envelope with your name, along with a blue and gold logo in the return address: UCLA.
Your hands shook. Your heart was about to pound its way out of your chest. The world silenced around you as your tunnel vision bore into the paper in your hands. You plunged a finger under the lip of the envelope to break the seal. You took a shuddering breath as you drew the paper out.
"Dear [Y/N] [L/N], we are happy to inform you..."
You didn't even finish reading before you started screaming and dancing in the driveway. Then you took off running back to the house to share the news with your mother.
<><><><><>
Your parents were proud of you, but of course, they were not eager to see you pack up and move across the country. You tuned them out until they said something about being in for a rude awakening because you didn't know what life was like out there, to which you said, "That's the whole point."
You grabbed your car keys and stormed out the door. You were determined not to let them kill your excitement. They just couldn't picture a life for you outside of their bubble. You drove around the backroads with your windows down and music loud, trying to drown out the replay of your parents' conversation. Without much thought, you eventually found yourself driving around the town square. You saw Timothée's truck outside of the hardware store. You checked the time - he should be finished with his evening shift soon. So you parked and walked over, lowering the tailgate to sit.
The two of you had been friends as long as you could remember and sweet on each other for years. You became an official item when you were sophomores and had been joined at the hip since.
Seeing the store's door open shook you from your thoughts. You saw him exit, head down and hands in his pockets. Right on time. You loved how his face lit up when he saw you across the street. He checked for traffic, then jogged over.
"Hey, baby! I wasn't expecting to see you tonight." He pecked your lips with his and placed his hands on your knees.
"Hopefully, it's a pleasant surprise," you replied with a raised eyebrow and a playful smirk.
"Oh, very. The highlight of my day." He kissed you once more, deeper this time, and flashed that crooked grin you loved so much. "Though my curiosity is piqued by this unusual visit on a school night."
You held out the envelope for him to see. "I got in, Timmy. And they are awarding me a full ride! My parents won't have to worry about how to finance things and I won't have to take out student loans."
Timothée took the envelope in hand and brushed his thumb over the logo. "California, huh?" he asked quietly.
"Last I checked, that's where Los Angeles is located," you chuckled.
"You're serious about this, aren't you?" His brows were furrowed, and his typically full lips pressed into a thin line.
Your mouth fell open in shock. Why couldn't anyone just be happy and excited for you today? "Of course I'm serious. That shouldn't be a surprise. You even encouraged me to apply to out-of-state schools!"
Timothee held a hand to his forehead and stepped back. "Yes, because I didn't want you to wonder if you could get in. But, I didn't think you would seriously consider packing up and moving across the country if they accepted you!" he shouted and threw his hands in the air.
Your voice seemed like a whisper compared to his current tone. "If I don't leave now, I will never get out of here. I HAVE to get out of here. This place is a black hole. It eats your hopes, your dreams, your ambition. I have a lot to offer the world, and I can't do that from here. I don't want to be stuck, like our older friends, my cousins, my PARENTS. I'll just end up with a baby on my hip playing Suzie Homemaker and making nothing of myself."
"Starting and taking care of a family isn't nothing, [Y/N]. I thought...I thought we would be together forever. That WE would have that family."
"One doesn't preclude the other, Timmy. Come with me."
Timothée quietly scoffed as his eyes fell. "I have no prospects in California."
"And there's nothing for me here."
His head shot up in shock. The hurt was evident on his face. "Nothing? NOTHING?! Wow, [Y/N]."
"Timmy, that's not-"
"Just go, [Y/N]." His lip wobbled. "Obviously you think you are too good for this town. Too good for me. It's better that we call off...whatever this is...now so you can completely start over."

My take on an Older Max, continuing the Camp Camp adventures.
Big ol' backstory/ headcanon under the cut
Max starts working at the camp at 16, when he ages out of being a camper.
He's 17-18 in my drawings.
He's either emancipated or maybe kicked out of his parents place, but he's happier for it, even if it does still sting
Max goes to camp every year after his first one. His parents don't stop being absent and neglectful, but having camp during the summer gives him something to look forward to. He knows he has people that care about him. Like in the last episode, he's grown to love the people there and the camp itself.
David, Nikki and Niel are also there every year. Nikki and Niel keep in touch year roundas they get ildef and get call phones. They become the family he chooses.
Max grows to be even more clever and confident and just happier with himself over all.
I imagine he's the one that ultimately figures out how to keep the camp afloat and eventually tricks negotiates the sale of the camp to David so it can stay open.
Nikki and Neil decide to become camp counselors too. Nikki because she is a natural and Neil because he is ride or die for these two. And nowhere else allows him to go wild with his questionable scifi science
Plus it beats the hell out of retail
There's a revolving door of co-ouncelors over the years until the trio are old enough to work as co- councelors.
Even more vaugely- and blatantly- supernatural stuff throughout the years.
Max is an awesome councelor when he puts in the effort and a lot of the campers love him.
I love Gwen, but she deserves her dream job and I'm happy to see her move on, so she's not really in this Au? Post Canon? Whatever it's called.
A lot of the other OG campers do return over the years, but not all of them and not every year. By the time the Trio are councelors they've all pretty much moved on except for David. This is hos camp and he still loves it

Nezha is worshipped in china and across most Asian cultures depicted as a child. and while lmk did age him up, it’s disrespectful to sexualize a being who’s main divine aspect is the fact that they are a child. many people disapprove of his age up and find any sort of sexualization offensive to their culture and the image of the god they worship even if he’s depicted as “aged up” in a cartoon. a singular cartoon should not be the reason a child deity is sexualized but sadly with the amount of people using him being aged up as an excuse, it already has. we as consumers of said media have to keep in mind that this isn’t just any old cartoon, these are depictions of gods that are still worshipped today, we must maintain that level of respect for the culture that created them. I know if I worshipped Nezha and went online to see someone calling an aged up version of him hot I’d definitely feel weird.
I remember asking this q on my side twt acc about a different character, but would that also mean engaging with Sun Wukong in that manner creates the same dissonance since he is still celebrated as a god? Or any other celestials that come up in the show for that matter? (Which I have long since crossed this road and havent gotten a complaint till now, so I'm going to assume that it's not an issue of sacredness.) Obviously, the bigger concern is in regards to the child portion, so outside of that above question, I do understand your uncomfortableness as someone who has a more extended understanding of Nezha outside of the show. But my main experience is with the Lego rendition, which also had...cultural counselors? I don't remember the technical term but, essentially folks whose job it was to make sure the team was respectful of the show's design and even comp layout if I remember correctly. If that was as big a point of contention as you are saying ( only discussing the age thing here and not the sexualizing ), I really would think the people in charge of making sure things are up to snuff would have changed him.
Ultimately, I don't get anything out of Nezha in this concerned issue since I always considered him to be badass more than anything else; there have been others in my inbox giving me different info so I'll go ahead with reading some of the books provided!

Just a quick little thing a wrote in like an hour. It would've been awesome to have gotten more Steve Raglan in the movie, so here's a quick extra little interaction between him and Mike!
It's not that long, but I'll put it under a readmore just in case :>
---
Mike fidgeted nervously, gently bouncing his leg in the suffocating beige office of one Mr. Steve Raglan. The silence was starting to make him sweat as he avoided looking at his career counselor's face.
After being reprimanded by officer Vanessa for sleeping on the job and forgetting to lock the door. He could've sworn he did though-. Steve, can he call him Steve? Had called Mike, asking to meet him back in his office. Mike wasn't sure what for then, still not entirely sure now, was this normal? Do career counselors call people back to fire them? Maybe, maybe not. It felt likely to Mike, considering Freddy's, especially since he has yet to meet the owner, he doubted he ever will. Steve was fully in charge of hiring nightguards, maybe he was in charge of firing them as well
Mike flinched a bit when Mr. Raglan suddenly hummed, Mike started to bounce his leg some more and looked for a clock, how long had it been? Minutes? Seconds? He couldn't tell. After Mr. Raglan asked him about the pills and the break in, Mike felt he had no choice but to go into detail about Garrett and his dreams for the second time that day. And now he was waiting. Hoping the older man wouldn't fire him for being a headcase.
"Michael"
Mike jumped when he heard his name and looked back at Steve Raglan, who was seemingly waiting for a response. Mike's throat felt dry. "I, uh, yes? Sorry I.. got lost in thought."
Steve smiled at the response, Mike looked away from him again, trying not to be obvious that he was focusing on the wall behind instead of the olders teeth, he couldn't place it, but something about the smile unnerved him. Steve started to speak. "I simply asked you what your brother was like."
Mike wasn't sure how to answer that. Wasn't sure he wanted to. He fumbled for his wallet and pulled out an old, slightly torn picture of him and Garrett, he gently placed it on the desk, hoping he wouldn't be asked to speak.
Mr. Raglan seemed fine with his silence however, and picked up the picture, studying it. "That plane must've meant alot to him if he managed to sneak it into a family picture."
Mike swallowed. "Yeah. Yeah.. It was. It was his favorite toy. He was playing with it when.. It.. I.." Mike tried to breathe calmly. "I lost it the same day I lost him."
Steve Raglan smiled again. And handed the picture back to Mike. "My little girl used to have a plane exactly like that when she was a kid. Its been collecting dust in the attic for years now, I know she wouldn't mind if I were to let you borrow it." Mr. Raglan had a strange glint his eye when he said that. Mike twitched slightly. "Really?"
"Of course. I'll leave it on your desk before your shift starts. Familiar sights and sounds are the goal aren't they? And even if it doesn't jostle something up there, I'm sure it'll be nice to have it, something to remember him by..."
-
Mike recalled this conversation after helping Abby build her little sleeping fort in his office. In all honesty, he had almost forgotten. But the red and white toy plane still stood there proudly on the desk, innocently looking at him, waiting for him. Mike's hands shaked slightly as he picked it up. He had to remind himself it wasn't actually Garrett's plane, just another toy that belonged to a young girl who he didn't know. A piece of plastic that ultimately didn't have anything to do with the toy his brother loved. Mike set it down shakily, and sat in his chair, staring.

Hooray Tumblr is letting me post this now!!
The following is a super intense, probably too personal essay about trying to process the overwhelmingly GOOD news that I got into grad school.
I wasn't sure about posting this, but ultimately, it is a story about never giving up, because you never know where you will be in a couple of years. So maybe this will help someone who is struggling with feelings of being trapped in their own lives.
It can get better, and it will.
I look at my life right now and I am so overwhelmed and grateful. I get to be creative every day. I am writing again. I am always learning new things about art and psychology. I have a lovely home and amazing husband and great dog that I cherish. I have met some incredible people that, now that they are in my life, I never want them to leave.
And now I have gotten into grad school.
It all seems impossibly fantastic and I wonder what I did to deserve this. There is also a part of me that is curious when I will mess it up, but in this big tangle of emotions I am feeling, I am trying not to dwell on those.
There is a cord of sentiment that is thicker and wrapped around the rest. Something that I can't put a name to, but it has a color the shade of something thankful. Every time I twirl it around my mind I start to tear up.
It is the feeling that I am living a life I never could have imagined in my darkest days and I am just... so so so happy I am still here for them.
In the winter of 2020, after a life-long battle with mental illness, I gave up. I didn't try to give up, I actually gave up. It is only by some kindness of the universe that I am still here to type this post.
Suicide is a permanent answer to a temporary question--but the problem is, when you spend a good portion of your life haunted by depression and trauma and a voice that tells you that you have nothing to offer the world, the question does not seem temporary. When I became unable to imagine an escape from a job that made me feel worthless, a chronic illness that put me in pain and left me in isolation, a blanket of guilt I could not shake, and a global tragedy with no end in sight, I took my own emergency exit. It was like jumping out of the window of a burning building on the 32 floor. I believed I would die either way, but the fall to the ground would require less suffering.
I was lucky enough to be caught on the way down - but I didn't feel lucky. They wanted to put me back in the building, and now the fire was hotter and had consumed my furniture.
I woke up in a very poorly run psych ward. So poorly run, my husband did not know where I had been taken for 18 hours after he called 911. I was given a roommate who was way too much like my mother, and I slowly became manic without the knowledge of the staff. They discharged me a few days before Christmas.
I had been hypomanic before, but I never had a word for it. When I was crying at the sunset that night and feeling so energetic and happy (and telling the funniest jokes I had ever told, from my skewed perspective), I just thought I was happy to be alive. But I didn't sleep. I couldn't sleep. My pressured speech and grandiose ideas scared my husband and I ended up in psych ward #2 (a much nicer one). I had to spend one night in the ER screaming and hallucinating, believing my heart would give out before I'd fall asleep, before I got there, though.
They called it "manic psychosis." I called it "the darkest timeline."
On Christmas eve, I was given the gift of a new diagnosis: bipolar disorder. I was too unstable to know what that meant or to conceptualize that the burning building was crumbling in some parts.
On the day I was discharged, I slept very little and was extremely lethargic. I had trouble moving and my assigned counselor had to prop me up to help me to his office. I don't know why they discharged me when I had to be taken downstairs in a wheelchair, but they did.
I was in urgent care not 24 hours later when I could no longer walk or sit up, and I even had trouble speaking. A nice EMT, who I remember had a name that included two US presidents, though I don't recall which, took me to my third hospital in two weeks. By time I made it to my room, I had trouble swallowing and was put on a liquid diet.
It is hard to say what the worst part of this terrifying saga was. However, laying in that hospital bed with no ability to regulate my body temperature, stuck awake and unable to move with relentless, restless, manic energy, without so much as the relief of distraction from the picture on the tiny hospital TV because I didn't have my glasses, was excruciating in ways I still have trouble coming to terms with. I watched a lot of basketball, I think, by the squeaky sounds of the shoes.
After being assaulted by a frustrated nurse on New Year's Eve, I laid in my hospital bed wishing for the release of sleep while hospital staff hooted and hollered distantly for the ball drop. 2021 had begun and I was in the darkest place I had ever been.
When I could eat by myself again and manageably push around a walker, I was discharged on a rainy January day. No one could say for sure why my strange, temporary paralysis happened. Could have been the benzos I had taken too many of. Could have been the adjustment to the Lithium that would chase away the mania. Most likely, it was the sloppy transition off of Effexor at the first psych ward.
I was finally back in my burning building. I was fired from my job as soon as I had the strength to hold a phone. I had to explain and apologize to friends and family who were stunned and afraid of my actions. And then January 6th happened. In a few days, I would have to start physical therapy and a Partial Hospitalization Program (group therapy school).
I looked at my disintegrating surroundings and thought they expect me to fight for this? Why? I wished I had been successful in my attempt but I had only succeeded in making my life harder.
I guess those who cheered me on could see the possibility of my happiness and success, but I had a lot of trouble catching a glimpse. I went to another psych ward at the beginning of 2022 and ended up in a residential care facility for Halloween and Thanksgiving that year. I had two different jobs, both I ended up quitting for treatment. I tried group therapy and different therapists. I switched medications countless times and even tried Ketamine therapy for a while. Up until April of 2023 (when I started EMDR) or so, it really all felt hopeless, but for some reason, I fought for the unknowable just beyond the horizon. I kept asking for help.
And now I am here, and I can't believe all of this almost didn't happen.
I look around my office and see pieces of art I would have never created. I would have missed concerts and weddings and road trips. There is so much music I would have never listened to! I would have never rediscovered my childhood passions and learned how to be myself. I would never have met some very important people in my life.
It almost never happened, but I was given a second chance.
I have so many feelings right now, some good, some bad. I am excited. I am anxious. I wonder if I can handle the challenge and I fear my bragging or arrogance. But the biggest feeling is my desire to go back in time and hold a version of myself that couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel and kept walking anyway.
Now we get to chase our dreams, and teach other people to hold on like you did.

surrender | boo seungkwan
I’m back!!! I wrote this awhile ago but didn’t have time to post it. Hope you enjoy!!! Idk if there are any warnings. Lil bit enemies to lovers, soonyoung makes an appearance, there’s a part that is inspired by business proposal (kdrama)…. Enjoy
It is finally time for your office's volunteer summer camp -- an expedition into the forest that you have historically taken very seriously. It would be completely perfect if it weren't for Boo Seungkwan, the annoyingly handsome, eloquent, confident head of the sales team, who was your ultimate competition for best camp counselor every year. The role came easily to you -- an HR professional with years of experience building company culture into something people would quit their jobs to join -- but he somehow also had a natural affinity for the job. Probably all that smooth-talking sales swindling he does, you think to yourself as you hop out of your car and grab a box out of your trunk.
There is only one girl's head counselor, and two boys'. This year, a newcomer has replaced last year's other candidate -- someone named Kwon Soonyoung. You hope he'll take your side in what promises to be the most intense year of rivalry yet, as you and Seungkwan battle for the coveted title of best camp counselor -- a title that comes with an extra week of paid vacation time.
You put Seungkwan out of your mind as you set about decorating your campsite. The theme for this camp was Ancient Cultures, and you had decided to decorate based off a viking theme. Your girls would become warriors, but could also participate in cool camp activities that were on-theme, like braiding each other's hair and adding beads, painting their faces, and — the crowning event of the camp festivities — playing capture the flag. Your team was the reigning champion, having beat Seungkwan’s team two years running, and you were not about to relinquish your title without a fight.
You have almost finished constructing the huge viking ship entrance when he discovers you. "Wow," he says, seemingly impressed at the work you've already put in. "All this work just to lose to me?"
You scoff. "It's my year, Boo Seungkwan," you sing from atop the ship, using a screwdriver to attach the wooden dragon head to the bow of the ship. “Just like every other year.”
"Actually," he says, leaning against a tree, "I think we both need to be worried."
"About what?" you ask, looking around for your wrench.
"Kwon Soonyoung," Seungkwan says seriously. "He's not messing around."
"What do you mean?" you say. You begin using the wrench you found to loosen a floorboard in the ship that looks a little out-of-place.
"You should see his campsite. It's been decorated since I got here at 2."
You roll your eyes. "I get that you want to distract me, but I'm a bit busy here, so I'm gonna have to ignore you."
He shrugs and strolls away. "You're welcome for the heads-up," he says over his shoulder. "Come by later. I'd love to show you around my site."
The girls begin arriving one by one, until there are 26 altogether. This is your biggest group yet, and you start by touring the campsite. You’re quite proud of how it all turned out: electric flaming torches that will light up at night are scattered between tents, a heavy hand-painted tapestry that you worked on for six months is hanging in the pavilion, and there are large fur rugs in each of the nice tents.
The girls are amazed by all of it. They quickly take to the Viking activities, the older girls copying the Norse symbols in face paint on their cheeks and arms and braiding the younger girls’ hair. The most outspoken girl is a thirteen-year-old named Heejin, who has already braided her hair and looks ready for battle. You note her eyeing the foam swords and make a point to do some training for capture the flag later.
Your dad stops by in the evening for dinner, accompanied by a young kid dressed in a Roman soldier’s tunic, helmet, and staff. He looks amused. “This centurion helped me find you,” he says, ushering his employees over to the pavilion, where they start to set up the feast for your campers. The centurion bows to him and then, hand on his chest, shouts, “Praetor Seungkwan requests the presence of the General at his Camp with her cohort. Shall I bear news of your imminent arrival?”
Always so theatrical, you think to yourself, unable to suppress a smile. “Yes, soldier,” you say back, and he nods stoically. “Can you keep an eye on things, Dad?”
He nods, amused, and you grab Heejin, the tallest girl, Eunbi, and a loquacious ten-year-old named Jiwoo. “Where are we going?” Jiwoo asks.
“We’re headed into enemy territory,” you whisper conspiratorially. The girls grin at you. “Keep a wary eye out.”
Together, the four of you follow the Roman soldier into the thicket of trees just outside your camp. You’ve only trudged a few minutes when you begin to hear yelling ahead of you. The young soldier runs ahead and emerges through the trees, stopping so quickly that Jiwoo collides with him.
The camp is in shambles. “Rome is burning,” says Eunbi in awe. She’s only partially exaggerating — campers clad in makeshift Roman armor are running everywhere, yelling. Seungkwan, dressed in a toga over his camp clothes, is trying to round them all up. You have to stifle a laugh.
“Seungkwan,” you call. “What’s going on?”
“We were raided,” he admits, looking torn between distress and hysterical laughter. “It was Soonyoung’s kids. They came in here wearing some kind of Chinese stuff, and they stole all our grape juice.”
You can’t help but roar with laughter. “I think I’m in love with Soonyoung,” you say, wiping a tear from your eyes. At this, Seungkwan bristles.
“Wait until he does it to your girls,” he says grumpily. “In fact, I bet he’s headed there now.”
You feel a moment of unease at his words. “Why would you say that?”
“Because that’s not my camper,” he says, pointing to the kid who’d led you to the Roman camp.
The little kid splits an evil grin at you before running away, into the trees. The girls and you run back to camp and gasp.
A man dressed in all black with a gold tiger insignia on his back stands ahead of a small group of young boys, who stand at attention with arms behind their backs. He turns at your approach. “Ah, there you are,” he says, and his smile seems…evil somehow. “Kwon Soonyoung,” he says, offering his hand. You look at the little girls, and they shake their heads.
You ignore his proffered hand. “I saw what you did to Seungkwan’s camp,” you say, staring Soonyoung down with a raised eyebrow.
“In true Mongol spirit,” he says simply. “I’m hoping things will go easier here.”
“What do you want?” You say tersely.
“A favor,” he asks, his smile dropping slowly.
“What is it?”
“My boys and I seem to be without food tonight. We had a bit of an accident at camp. Would we be able to dine here?”
You happen to know your dad brought enough food to feed a literal army. Still, a part of you wants to say no. You don’t trust the look in Soonyoung’s eyes. One look at the hungry young men, however, and you soften.
“Fine,” you agree, “on the condition that there is no looting.”
The boys sit down beside the girls and begin eating. You and Soonyoung meet away from them. “So are you planning on waging war?” You ask him.
“The Mongols conquered most of Asia under the rule of Genghis Khan. It’s a great way to learn about history,” he says easily, less dramatic now that the boys aren’t present. “And a great way to win best camp counselor,” he adds with a wink.
You roll your eyes, and he laughs. “Seungkwan was right,” he says. “It IS cute when you do that!”
“Seungkwan said what?” you snap, looking at him in alarm.
Soonyoung laughs. “You really don’t know,” he says, giggling. “Well, I won’t spoil the fun. But make no mistake, there’s more to Seungkwan than you think.”
Just then, screams start coming from the pavilion. You shoot a venomous glare at Soonyoung, who is grinning ominously, before running to check on your girls.
They are crowded atop the tables under the pavilion, some shrieking, some looking around, some crying, some clutching at the girls next to them.
“What’s going on?” You shout over the clamor, and one of the girls points to the attached benches at each table.
Snakes. You have to bite your tongue to keep from shrieking yourself. They’re slowly undulating on the benches. Then suddenly, a little girl named Sumin steps forward, more curious than scared. “It’s not real,” she says, poking the snake right in the eye.
It doesn’t move a muscle in her direction, simply continuing to squirm. You take a step forward and curse. It’s a toy snake, seemingly controlled by a remote. A prank.
This is, as far as you’re concerned, the final nail in Soonyoung’s coffin. You meet eyes with Heejin. “Run back to the Roman camp for me,” you instruct her. “It’s time for a war council.”
The next morning, you and the girls — in full Viking gear — march on Rome. There’s a ridiculous sort of tension in the air as you approach the pavilion, which Seungkwan has decorated with an actual stone statue of a Roman soldier, a sacrificial altar, and an incredibly accurate set of four pillars. A young, but tall boy, probably no older than twelve, is standing before the statue, and the “men” are in neat lines facing him. He meets your group, led by Heejin, with a bow. “I am Dosan,” he says in a commanding voice. “I am the unit’s general.”
Seungkwan is grinning with pride off to the side. The two of you meet eyes, and he gives you a look that seems to mean, “I told you they were impressive.” Indeed, the children seem incredibly well-trained after just a day at camp. You nod in agreement and his smile grows. A strange warmth steals over you, starting somewhere in your midsection, as though you’ve moved from the shade into the sun. Perplexed, you turn your attention back to the kids.
“Bring the treaty,” you instruct, and Jiwoo steps forward with a piece of paper you’ve made to look old through tea stains. It has a very real signature on it. Seungkwan holds his hand out to Jiwoo and she gives it to him. He reads it through, his eyes getting more and more wide every second. “A truce?” he finally asks, his face a mask of doubt.
“A truce,” you confirm. “If we combine our strength, Kwon Soonyoung can’t win, no matter how clever he might be.”
He looks to the boys. “What do you think?” he asks them, his face serious but his eyes full of mischief. They nod enthusiastically, and you grin. “Then it’s a truce,” he says, grabbing an actual feather quill off the desk and signing the treaty with a flourish.
You look to Heejin. “What do you want to do first?” you ask her.
She thinks for a minute before responding, “Train for Capture the Flag.”
You nod in approval.
Soon, the camp quickly dissolves into a commotion of organized chaos. Heejin and Dosan are heading up the actual swordfighting practice -- but not before Dosan sends a pair of twins on a “recon” mission to “canvas” the enemy camp. You can’t help but feel inspired by how seriously they’re all taking this war they’re in.
Seungkwan, too, is watching them proudly. You allow yourself one single second to think about how handsome the softness in his eyes as he observes his campers makes him look before addressing him. “You didn’t have to warn me they were coming. You could’ve let them do worse than they did. And honestly, if you’d asked me earlier, I would’ve assumed you’d have tried to team up with Soonyoung to bring me down.”
He gives you a wry smile. “There aren’t many people I’d stoop to Soonyoung’s level for, and you definitely aren’t on the list.”
“I’m going to try to take that as a compliment,” you say.
“Trust me, it is one,” he says, shooting a distasteful look into the trees where Soonyoung’s campsite is. “What about you, though?” he suddenly asks.
“Me?” you reply.
“Surely Soonyoung tried to ask you to join hands with him,” he says.
“He didn’t,” you say coolly, “and even if he had, I wouldn’t have done it.”
He raises an eyebrow. “Why not?”
You stand up. A brawl has broken out on the training fields, and you need to break it up. “I’m quite attached to you as my rival, Boo Seungkwan,” you say lightly, “and I don’t have any room on my roster for one more.”
You dance away, toward the fighters, only stealing a slight glance at Seungkwan over your shoulder. He is watching you leave, his mouth open in what looks like incredulity, but with a smile at the corners of his mouth and that same devastating softness in his eyes.
You suddenly wish you hadn’t looked.
***
The day has come.
After two days of training, a fair bit of history, and much too much interaction with Seungkwan (who seems to get more and more wonderful the more you see him), it’s come time for the Great War. It’s Capture the Flag Day.
Jiwoo and one of Seungkwan’s boys, Minseok, have been named head strategists. They’ve spent hours poring over the map of the entire campsite, planning for every alternative and educating the rest of their squads on tactics. Heejin and Dosan have headed up the infantry, because this year capture the flag features foam weapons, and if you get hit, you have to stay frozen until a fellow teammate can get to you. Heejin is a fencer and Dosan is a martial artist, and together they have taught the younger ones everything they know. To hold to Viking tradition, you have selected two Berserkers: an insanely energetic seven-year-old named Yura, the youngest of your campers, and the biggest and beefiest and wildest of Seungkwan’s campers, Junho. Their job is to whack as many of Soonyoung’s campers with a foam ax as possible.
Before the game begins, Dosan and Heejin stand on one of the pavilion tables in your camp, dressed to the nines in Roman garb and Viking skins, hair braided, face painted. Dosan opens his mouth, and begins to read from several sheets of paper Heejin is holding in front of him.
“Each of you has chosen the path of a warrior, not for glory or fame, but to defend all that we hold dear – our families, our land, and our freedom. We face a formidable foe, but know this: it is in the face of adversity that heroes are born!
Remember this, my brave soldiers – we fight not just for ourselves but for generations yet unborn. The deeds we accomplish today will echo through the corridors of time. Let us be the architects of our destiny and shape a future where freedom and justice reign supreme!
In the face of fear and uncertainty, remember that you are not alone. Look to your left and your right; you will find your comrades standing shoulder to shoulder with you, unwavering in their commitment to this righteous cause. Together, we form an unbreakable wall, an unstoppable force!
As we march into battle, let us carry the memories of our ancestors who fought valiantly before us. Draw strength from their legacy, for their spirits march beside us on this hallowed ground.
On this day, we shall etch our names in the scrolls of history. When our descendants speak of this moment, let them speak with pride of the day our courage blazed like a thousand suns!
Forward, my comrades, into the crucible of destiny! Together, we shall triumph, for we are warriors of indomitable spirit! May the winds of fortune favor our just cause, and may we emerge victorious, for this is the hour of heroes!”
At the end of this rousing speech, Dosan gives a deep roar. The onlooking campers yell in solidarity. You look at Seungkwan in absolute hysterics. “What was that?” you hiss. “That was incredible.”
“This kid has watched way too many war movies,” he whispers back, choking on a laugh. “I wish I’d recorded that.”
Jiwoo is barking instructions at everyone while Minseok talks to the recon team. Heejin and Dosan have gone ahead to meet the opposing team captain. Soonyoung emerges from the trees, his eyes hooded, the tiger on his back gleaming in the reddish sunset.
“May the best team win,” he says. “We can watch the whole game from the lake.”
The three of you head to the canoes so you can watch the game unfold. Soonyoung catches your arm, holding you back. “I think you need to see this video,” he says seriously.
He laughs at your glare. “I might be the bad guy, but I’m not a bad guy. Trust me.”
He hands you his phone and jogs to catch up with Seungkwan. You watch the video. It seems to be of a drunk Seungkwan, slumped in a chair in what must be his living room, hand over his eyes. “She’s gorgeous,” he moans. “Ugh, she hates me and she’s gorgeous. What am I supposed to do?”
The laughter in the background is definitely Soonyoung. “Stop laughing,” Seungkwan drawls in the video. “She’s seriously...oh, she’s my dream girl. She’s smart, and she’s beautiful, and she can make me laugh. Competitive. Almost scary. I like her so much,” he confesses, a tear rolling down his cheek.
Your heart is pounding. You put the video away, suddenly wondering why you’d never considered it before. The attraction between you has always been palpable, and the disdain has been majorly fabricated. But you find yourself remembering how Seungkwan carried one of your campers back a mile when she’d sprained an ankle at the last campout. Or the time when he stopped a particularly rowdy camper of his from picking on one of the girls in your camp. Or when he rushed one of the kids to the emergency room after they’d been stung by a bee because they were allergic. You’d been with him at that particular event, and he had paced in the lobby like the kid was his own until the nurse had come back to tell them he’d had an epi-pen and he was fine.
That was when your heart had started aching -- an ache you had tried to ignore, and mostly succeeded at ignoring, for two years. You rarely saw him around the office, but when you did, just his smile was enough to make you crazy. And now, here, in this place, the truth of your own heart was so embarrassingly clear. You loved Seungkwan. You had for literal years. And you’d put off the feeling for so long it had grown into something wild and untameable -- something that made you have to fight to conceal as he turned to look at you, ushering at the canoe. “We don’t have all day,” he teases, and you give him a weak smile. The light in his eyes, the wind tousling his perfect hair, that skin that basically glowed -- how had you ever lived without him?
And how could you, if you never said anything?
Seungkwan shoves the boat with you in it into the water before hopping in himself. Before he can grab his oar, Soonyoung deftly grabs it, jumping into his own canoe and paddling away. The two of you are stranded in a canoe that is moving fast toward the middle of the lake with absolutely no way of getting back. Soonyoung winks at you. You stare back, one part amused, one part abjectly horrified. You have no choice but to watch the game and try desperately not to throw yourself at Seungkwan, who is yelling at Soonyoung in the most adorable way possible.
The woods are alive with the sounds of feet pounding the ground and battle cries echoing through the night. Soonyoung's campers move swiftly and silently, using their knowledge of the terrain to their advantage.
The Roman and Viking campers, on the other hand, rely on their cunning and teamwork. They divide into two teams – one group works as a decoy to divert the enemy's attention, while the other stealthily moves towards Soonyoung's camp to capture their flag.
In the midst of the chaos, Jiwoo and Minseok emerge as the tactical masterminds. They have devised a clever plan, exploiting the weaknesses in the enemy’s formation. Using silent hand signals and coordinated whistles they developed during their training, they communicate with their fellow campers seamlessly.
Just as the sun is fully set over the horizon, the moment of truth arrives. Jiwoo and Minseokhwvr executed their plan flawlessly. The decoy group, drawing the enemy away, creates an opening for the second team to infiltrate Soonyoung's camp undetected.
In a heart-pounding moment, your campers snatch the enemy's flag from under their noses, and their victory is sealed. Cheers erupt as they make their triumphant return to their campsite, holding the captured flag high.
Seungkwan's campers and your campers celebrate their hard-fought victory, hugging each other in excitement and relief. The intense game has brought them closer together, solidifying their bonds as a united front against their rivals.
You don’t know when you ended up in Seungkwan’s arms in the canoe. You had both been cheering the kids on like parents, and at some point, in triumph or suspense, he had grabbed onto you. But now you caught yourself staring at him in the dim light of a rising moon. Trapped on a tranquil lake, with no one else around -- since Soonyoung has gone off to console his beaten campers.
Seungkwan swallows hard and lets go. “Sorry,” he mutters. “Got carried away.”
You grab his hand. He looks down, confused, at your fingers on his. “I saw the video,” you say in a rush.
For a moment, he thinks, seemingly not comprehending. Then, a light dawns in his eyes. A blush rises on his cheeks, and he curses. “Uh....I’m sorry,” he says, and then, clothes and all, he jumps. Out of the boat. Into the water.
“Seungkwan!” you yell, shocked.
“Don’t worry about me,” he says, trying and positively failing to sound cool. “I’m fine, I’m fine.”
You can’t help but lose it. Laughing your head off, you jump in after him, your clothes quickly soaking. “Come back!”
You reach the shore at the same time. “I want to talk to you,” you say, reaching for his hand. Your numb feet catch on a large stone, and you tumble over, only saved from face-planting into the shore by Seungkwan, who has shot out his arms to grasp you.
He pulls you closer as a reflex and looks over your face, worried. “Please watch where you walk,” he says, his voice soft due to your closeness, and you blush as his warm breath sends a shiver down your spine.
But then the sound of footsteps makes you jump. Your campers are looking for you. Seungkwan looks horrified. “Hide,” he says, and you run into the trees hand-in-hand , stepping behind a tent wall. Seungkwan places a hand over your mouth as he looks around to see if anyone saw you.
He is incredibly close. You can see the water dripping off his hair onto the back of his neck. You move his hand. “Seungkwan.”
He looks at you, distressed. “What?”
“Did you mean it?” you ask him quietly. “What you said in the video.”
“I...” he stutters, seeming to be looking for an excuse, but then he looks at you. “I did. I have never met someone who can make me feel like you can. The competitive banter drives me crazy. But the craziest part is that I don’t want to be your rival anymore. I want to be more. I have no idea how to get there.” His voice is quiet and soft like yours. “So have a little mercy on me. I don’t know how to be to you what you are to me.”
You gaze at each other for a long moment. Then, you both move together, reaching for each other like a marathon runner reaching for water. He kisses you once, twice, three times gently before you grab the wet collar of his shirt and pull him in. He takes you into his arms, brushing his warm fingertips across the cold, wet back of your neck and making goosebumps erupt onto your arms.
“What a truce,” you murmur against his lips.
He chuckles. “No, this is a surrender.”

@hecno this deserves its own post!

1. Jack's been there longer than Shaun, Nick, Ian, and Skylar and MC. They're all new hires for the summer and they all met through the camp, save for Ian, Skylar, and MC.
Skylar and Ian met in acting school. They bonded and had a began getting a bit too close. MC was a bit put off but was ultimately glad Ian managed to make a new friend other than her and they all became pretty tight knit. Unfortunately though, Ian and Skylar had began a thing behind MC's back and while Ian wanted to keep things the way they were, Skylar was probably gonna spill at some point.
2. My thought process for the creating the MC was imagining the typical party girl archetype who'd usually be a kill target be a lead for the AU. It just seemed like a cool idea to toy with. Plus, it's much more interesting in my opinion to see a dynamic where MC and Jack butt heads.
Ofc this would be tricky, seeing as this is a slasher au and I feel I should follow certain tropes like how I would a horror movie BUT also keep it within this characters' parameters. MC doesn't drink on the job, it's reserved for when everyone gets to the cabin or when they're on a counselors night out. She doesn't cheat, she thinks it's shitty. No fuckin on the job either, only when it's nightfall or she's relieved from duty.
My inspirations were primarily Friday The 13th movies, The Sleepaway Camp movies, and AHS '84
3. Jack's story before getting to camp is pretty much the same as in the game. He didn't have a good life. Likely came from an abusive/neglectful household and in his late teens lived on the lam, getting into jail and sometimes being bailed out by people he did jobs for. Got into smoking, drinking, fighting, and eventually ran into a camp counselor who offered him a job as the mascot. He liked working with kids, playing with them and having people that depended on and trusted him.
He eventually came to work there every summer and got a place in the small town where the camp was.
Thanks for asking about these!!

I know it sounds bad and it is, probably, really bad, but I need to get this all off my chest. I feel like I’m going insane and could really use a slap in the face right about now. There's nobody else in my life I can talk to about this. Apologizes in advanced for any spelling or other errors, this is my first time using Reddit and not used to the formatting.
Some backstory. I (30M) met my Ex (26F) eight years ago. She had left home for personal reasons I won't get into here and we ended up living together for almost nine months.
I know, you're probably thinking I'm a rake for living with a woman and not immediately proposing marriage, but circumstances made that impossible. Again, I know this sound like I'm making excuses, but for her privacy I won't divulge. Just know that for the majority of that time we lived as old bachelors. It was only in that last month did things change.
I loved her like mad. I still do, that's why I'm in this mess, but I'm getting ahead of myself. The point is, I had fully intended to marry her. I wanted to marry her, but before I could propose a FF (family friend) discovered us and convinced me not to.
I feel like now it's important for me to clarify that I am not a gentleman. My father was a common sailor and my mother was a cook. I made my living in theatre and working any kind of odd jobs I could. Now I do theatre full time, but even then I can barely make rent some days.
She, however, is a gentlewoman. I didn't know this at the time, but when the FF arrived, he made it clear she did have connections. Being with me all but assured the destruction of her reputation.
The FF, however, gave us an out. Either I could marry her and risk her family cutting her off leaving her destitute or I could let her go and pretend it never happened. (The family had a cover story on where she was during our time together.)
I ultimately decided to leave. At the time, I thought I had done the honorable thing. She could move on, find a husband who could make her happy and comfortable and not have to live with a mistake she made when she was eighteen.
Now we come to last week. A business associate invited me to a party and, for the first time in eight years, I saw her again. I didn't even know she was in town. As it turns out her fiance is my associate's brother.
The fiance not a bad man as far as I know. He's a bit of a stiff and doesn't seem to understand theatre or the arts at all, but that can be easily forgiven. His brother clearly loves him, so he must have other qualities that makes up for it.
This is exactly what I wanted for her. She's about to marry a good man and be set for life.
It's just…she doesn't seem happy. I know I'm projecting, but I can't help it. Every time I see her with him there is just no spark between them. It's like their cousins or siblings rather than lovers.
She’s was always so passionate. I can't imagine she's so changed she could content herself with mild affections.
I keep coming back to the question of why now? And the only conclusion I've come to is maybe her heart had been broken as much as mine. Maybe she's only marrying now because she has to. Or maybe it's taken her this long to move on. If she had moved on sooner, surely she would be married by now.
Needless to say, I'm not getting any answers soon. My associate has been bringing her in as a kind of counselor, so I have see her a few times since that first night. She’s treating me rather coldly, but that’s to be expected. As if stands we have to pretend we don’t know each other and it’s killing me.
If I knew for certain she was happy, I could let this go. The only reason I’ve been able to live with myself was the thought that she was living a life I couldn’t give her. My circumstances haven't changed, but I'm having regrets.
I should have asked her to marry me before I left or at least spoken with her on what to do. Now she likely thinks I'm a bastard for leaving without a word, and rightfully so.
Despite all of that, I can't help feeling there's a chance. Sometimes I catch her turning away when I look her direction. Even now and again she seems to slip and allows herself to relax around me before walking away. She even defended me in front of a whole dinner party when she didn't have to.
Am I going mad? I haven't done anything. We haven't had a single moment alone together. But every time I do see her, all I want to do is pull her into my arms and never let go, damn the consequences.
TLDR; After eight years my ex is back in town, engaged to a good man. She doesn't seem happy and every fiber in my being is telling me to get her back. AITA?
