#;thinking about imaginary scenarios and dialogues in my head
Text
utilizing all of my willpower in a daunting battle against The Fixations just to get basic household tasks done, i am very brave
#currently in a 'pace around my house for 3 hours staright talking to myself making up character scenarios in my head' phase#which is good because often that is literally how I write and get writing ideas like things start as concepts#and are only fleshed out once I spend hours talking to myself in different voices trying out dialogue and noting down the words#and situations that are the most interesting out of my daydream walkabout freakshow improv acting session but#this is BAD actually when I have 800 other things to do#I couldnt even eat dinner I just wanted to go in the other room and walk around talking to myself#which just happens#I think it's part of the natural cycle of my creativity or what the hell ever like I just.. get Like That#once every few months I become obsessively fixated on wanting to spend all of my time talking to myself like.. idk#maybe just as a way of processing ideas and stuff that have been floating around in my head for a while or somehting#then after a week or so of constantly having to fight the urge to spend all day talking to myself it's like my brain has gotten it out of#its system and I can function again#but for those few days lol#yesterday I made free time to sit and watch a show that I like and I was literally like.. no... I cant even get into the show I dont#care about this.. I would rather pace the living room and act out imaginary people#Which I know some people daydream about exisitng media characters or like their ships or something like this explicitly is not that#it's like... not even anyone in specific. original characters but not even my pre-established cast of exisitng characters#from the various things I'm writing. I just mean I literally walk around having random interactions#Like I'm playing DnD and I'm the DM and also all of the players hiknjk#but also I'm up walking around acting everything out physically and speaking so its maybe more like LARPing#but everything is just random on the spot. like just testing things out. what if I were these 5 random people off the top of my head#in this random scenario off the top of my head. is that anything? huh? then I debate with myself if it is or not#also one of those aituations where having someone spying on you would be more funny than creepy like.. * throws a punch* *also falls on the#ground because I am both the puncher and the person getting punched* *quickly rises and dashes across the room bevause I'm also a third pers#on who's just a witness* * eating a piece of toast while frantically emoting towards a blank spot on the wall#* etc. and so on and so on gybjh#also sadly yes I have super aphantasia I cannot see shit in my head this is probably why I have to physically act out all imagined#scenarios instead of just visualizing them. rip to people who can silently zone out lost in their imaginations but I'm different (WORSE)#ANYWAY I have a ton of projects right now like a game being finished and the giant worldbuilding videos and costumes and all of this stuff#bad timing to get sucked into the vortex of one of my many evil wizard afflictions that manifests once every few months

So I find out I cant post this long a message here... what is this, twitter?! So here it is in parts I guess.
So yea, honestly, this was a lovely read, lovely probably not being the best descriptor but now that I had a few days off of it I think on it most fondly. I read the first two seasons in less then three days, with like 2 hour sleep in between, swapping saves on my various devices to take it to toilet and bath with me even. I did mean to get more sleep but reading in bed on my notebook turned out to not work the same as when im trying to learn that way and actually made me genuinely more awake. It really is like watching an interactive supernatural TV show, if you got the imagination for it anyway. I love the worldbuilding, the story, the characters with their highs and lows, some moments had me genuinely taking a moment to just step away and breathe. Having to decide between going after Bredley or leaving crying Chris alone on the stairs really had me in a tizzy. And this is probably the quickest I have ever been reading, the closer we got to finally getting Sydero out of Hell the faster my bleary eyes worked. Genuinely it provded me with few dozen hours of barely existing outside of your story, its been one of the best experiences I had with "gaming" or stories in general, since I first discovered proper rpgs way back when. Im actually quite new to the IF genre, tho I did read interactive novels when I was younger, but find out about these works has been absolutely mindblowing and the amount of work and passion that goes into the numerous titles out there is eyewatering. The third day I had to go to work and I was nearly useless, things falling out of my hands, taking wrong keys and literally forgetting where I was going and who I was speaking to as I was absolutely stuck in my head thinking out imaginary scenarios and wondering how it will continue. Your work has got most of the values that are important to me when it comes to the story, mainly the characters being very real, nobody being stupid or inconsistent just for story purposes, things just make sense and grow in velocity quite naturally. The niggling annoyances that usually mount up in my head untill I cant enjoy a story anymore are nearly completely absent here (tho I could find some if I dug hard enough :P). But most importantly it didnt make me feel like im just reading/playing a game story, I never thought that things will work out if I just pick the right dialogue, the delight of being unsure, frustrated and incredibly eager to get over the next hurdle while simultaneously being affraid of it, because I was terrified of what could happen to the characters I have grown to love has been there throghout. Having this balance, where I still felt like anything can happen and nothing is off the table even dozens of hours in is absolutely singular for me. It gives the moments of peace and just friendly dialogue immense weight and despite the painfully slow progress in the relationships (especially with Sydero, god you sadist!) it all felt properly paced because of the nonstop shitstorm englulfing the cast. The moments of levity are just as valuable as the intense ones. It kept me at the edge of my seat, desperate to try my best and it served to only endear me further to the people around my Roe, whether I innitially liked them or not. Even if some of the moments are just illusions, like the one with Bredley and Chris, it doesnt make them any less impactful and the fact that I didnt believe it to be an illusion at all means you did something special there.
If you want to read the rest of the ask then it's below the keep reading, so no one can accuse me of leaving shit out lmfao.
First off damn, thank you. Like, this was a lot to write and I appreciate you taking the time to do so and send it to me.
So to answer your questions first. Sorry, bud, but Sydero is in fact aromantic and though I understand there are certain things people may find themselves upset about, that's not something I'm going to budge with. If you don't continue that romance then I do understand, but I hope that if you do, you find that she is still every inch of awesome.
I don't know if the 'happy ending' part was a question or not but I've answered this before so I don't have a problem restating it, it's a bittersweet ending really. Of course there are multiple endings, ranging from bittersweet to literal world ending but that's up to the player of course. There is no true way to make this story just 100% happily ever after and make it make sense which is another thing I don't do lol.
So ... the thing is if we're talking about end of season three then ain't nobody gonna agree lmfao. And [REDACTED] can't agree cos [REDACTED] is now [REDACTED]. Don't you love [REDACTED]. But you said shitstorm so I'm going to comply lmfao!
Chris: "Yes, what am I saying? Fuck yea, we're saying fuck it to everything else so why not. Let's fucking get married ... but you gotta do this right, get on the knee babe."
Sydero: *stares at you, waiting for you to say sike. When she see's it's not happening she walks away.*
Zillah: "We might not survive the day and you want to get married? Is that even possible, I'm dead. Sure, let's get married."
Rahim: *opens his mouth, closes it. Opens his mouth, closes it. Inhales very deeply* "You are so lucky I love you. So damn, fucking lucky."
Amari: "Finally, I was beginning to think neither of us was brave enough to ask the other. Wanna see my wedding scrapbook? Because if we're doing this, we're doing it right."
Chanara: "You are the craziest person I have ever met." That's it, that's her answer.
BONUS - POLY
Amari: "AH, of c-"
Sydero: "No."
Amari: "But Syd!"
Sydero: *walking away* "No."
Its stories like this, with people like this that make me genuinely wish for happy endings, I am sucker for them but usually in gaming they sort of just come about by virtue of you playing, of doing things that are marked with the correct color or just being good enough at shooting things or mashing buttons. They are not without worth by any means but its not at the same level as when you want to be able to do what you can to provide it for the characters because you believe it wont happen otherwise, these people deserve an actually good outcome and I seriously hope to god you aim to provide it :)
So yea, despite my absolute gushing just now, this amazing work also has the absolutely most damning and worst any good story can have… its unfinished and despite everyone telling you its ok to take your time and obviously your health is the most important thing, I will be a bitch and tell you. Get your ass back into gear (please). Dont flake out on us. I went back and purchased the seasons on itch and will continue to support you so whether you have a full storyboard and just lost the apetite to write or if you are just making it up as you go and need to find some inspiration know that many of us are waiting (desperately) to see it through.
With that being said, just a few more comments/questions. First off, is there a difference in the interaction with Sydero if you do the romance and her relationship as well as can be done vs if its just okay? I intentionally didnt have any preconceptions and fought my mind viciously at forming some romantic fantasy notions of her "rescue", but still I would love for there to be acknowledgment of the possiblity of feelings. Im even thinking of writing up a short scenario of it, with just some small changes to make it a little but more fulfilling for the romantics like myself out there. It wont be quality, but it would provide at least myself a little bit of peace of mind.
Speaking of peace of mind and romances. Please, oh god for crying out loud please, do not make Sydero aromantic. After not liking her much innitially (unsuprisingly) the distance did make the heart grow fonder and my Roe genuinely made it his main mission to get her out of there and closer to her. I actually stopped playing at chapter 3 of the third season after their conversation, partially because I needed that break and partially because I thought this chapter was a good stopping point before you get back on top of it. But mainly because it just kinda threw me for a loop and I wanted to step away for a bit to let myself cool down. Sydero, imo out of everyone deserves some sort of happiness the most, the fact that she doesnt really know what that would be makes it even more crucial. So seriously, with the plethora of possible explanations dont let the aromantic one stand, I mean cmon, what kind of sadist would give us a romance with person incapable of it, you wouldnt do that to us right?! There needs to be a happy ending for this and when I say happy ending, I mean the whole disney fairytale wedding one with deers running around and birds singing, pissed, gagged Sydero wearing runic cuffs in middle of a devil trap about to go full demonic with a paper clip glued to her forehead saying "I do" type of ending :D
Now see, this is the kind of suspense I was talking about. Because I genuinely dont know if you aim to provide a happy ending here, Sydero may genuinely be too messed up or simply that type of person and those of us who chose to put our feelings into that relationship might just be screwed. I hope not, that would be devastasting but I still believe that very little is off the table (tho this needs to be!). Its a great, yet frustrating and painful feeling.
And now, for a prompt, because I absolutely do not have an off button and I have seen people asking you and loved your answers. So, what would each of the Supertition RO reaction would be to a genuine proposition of marriage, to make it less stupid, this would be at, lets say, end of season three level of relationship. Im curious at the levels of shitstorm this would cause :D
Thats it, so once more, thanks for writing this awesome piece of entertainment, I hope you are doing well and will do even better and all the best wishes from me.
Amari best girl. Im out.

Alright shit I'll go first (no one asked for this lmao).
I've had soooo much trouble getting off the last year or two without thinking about very specific people. It could be characters, actors, real people, whatever. I usually go through phases.
For a few months, it was T. Could not get off without thinking about him. I think a big part of it was how unloved and undesired I was feeling in my marriage. Random fantasy wasn't cutting it. I needed to feel particularly wanted by a specific individual. Plus... T was very good at getting in my head. Emphasis on was. He's kinda stopped trying until we're in front of each other. Which sucks in some ways but is ultimately going to better for both of us, I think.
ANYway, a few weeks ago - mid-emotional breakdown - I'm thinking, I NEED to reclaim my sexuality for me, not thinking about other people unless I'm with them physically or actively sexting with them. I need to let my fantasies be mine again, not all about other people. But how do I do that? How do I get there?
Every time I try, I end up terrified of being alone and I get sad and feel broken.
Well, this morning, out of nowhere, BAM. I just did it, like it was nothing, fantasized a very hot scenario with a faceless stranger. An imaginary amalgam of strangers. I was a sub in a bdsm chateau type place. I was gagged and blindfolded and a dom enjoyed toying with me and forcing me to answer questions through the gag or by responding to different stimuli with my body. We had chemistry and lots of fun and his dialogue was hot. Even inside the fantasy, I didn't know who he was. Didn't need his name or identity.
A dream lover. Exactly what I needed for 20 minutes, now gone. And I'll resurrect him again when I need him, like a sexy golem. I owe him nothing, I don't have to worry about him. He's not real.
I know that sounds silly and a little basic, but I've really been going through it the last couple years and this feels like a big deal to me.
It makes me feel like I belong to myself again.
It heals a tiny piece of that giant hurt about giving up on a marriage.
It makes it safer for me to be vulnerable with people I DO want to open up for, because if I get hurt or rejected, now I trust myself to catch myself.
It's empowering.

Mind is so lost and occupied again. Idek know if what I do is normal. I make scenarios in my head, mutely say the dialogues I make in my head even when I’m work, walking outside, and I usually find myself almost mutely speak to the imaginary people in the scenarios in my head while I’m in the bus. I am anxious almost 24/7, home or not. I envy people who get to take medications for their anxiety or depression, coz I don’t. Idek how to talk or ask about the things I do and feel. I am not well, mentally, emotionally, physically and even financially. I’m too anxious to speak up.
Now I’m anxious about my life rn. I don’t feel like I’m doing well at work as it requires me to make connections with the customers, which makes me extremely anxious. In my relationship, I don’t communicate well especially in person coz speaking up makes me cry. Whenever I try to say what’s in my head, what I feel about my current relationship, I always end up breaking down, crying. Financial stress. After finishing college, I always worry about my students debt and credit card debt. I’m worried about how long it would take me to pay off my debts. I always feel too impatient every payday because what I earn isn’t enough to pay off my debts and survive at the same time. Family. I don’t even think I can finish this thought in my head. I’m just tired. I wanna get help too but idk how. I suck at communication, communication makes me anxious and nervous, and I would need to communicate with a specialist about me being anxious and worried most of the time.
I just wanna be able to sleep. Indefinitely. But I can’t. I’m too anxious and nervous.

i think i've talked on here before about how when i was a kid (10-ish) i read a whole bunch of silver age justice league comics, and how they were hilariously, bafflingly stupid, but there's one in particular that sticks in my head because it had i think the worst twist ending i've ever read in my life. this was a long time ago so my memories of it are pretty fuzzy but i think i remember the basic plot. it was like...
so there's a new villain, whose name i wanna say was "the maestro" or something — i'm not much into DC beyond having read silver age justice league so i've no idea if this character ever got used again, apologies if any other writers did something cool with the guy later but anyway. in this, the maestro is a guy who goes around committing robberies while playing music that compels onlookers to dance (it's pre-recorded music, and sounds like normal popular music). the compulsive dancing prevents anyone from being able to stop him, including the justice league, who fail to defeat him while he pulls off several heists. for whatever weird reason they all wind up doing different dances, and commenting on what type of dance they're doing in their dialogue — i remember green arrow saying that he "can't! stop! dancing! this! toy! soldier! march!"
eventually they track the maestro to his lair (i think he had a standard-issue underground villain lair, probably in a cave) and they rush in, confident they can defeat him because they don't hear any music playing. but the maestro catches them off guard and reveals that actually, it was never the music making them dance, but some sort of mind control ray that you actually can't hear. he uses the ray on them and... forces them all into specialized bubble traps designed to prevent them escaping? superman is in a kryptonite bubble, green lantern is in a yellow bubble, you get the idea. he then gloats about how he's defeated the justice league.
so while you're still processing how stupid all of that is (fairly stupid, but typical silver age levels of stupid), you turn the page.
and then it's revealed that the entire thing was a comic within a comic. the actual justice league is sitting around in their base reading the same comic we've just read. none of it was real. it turns out that they've all met to go through their fan mail and they've received a letter from a fan with this comic attached. the letter read something like "dear justice league. big fan of you guys, love your work. however i am really worried because i've realized that there's a hypothetical scenario in which someone could defeat you, and i can't see any way you guys could escape if something like this happened to you. please see attached. write me back i'm very concerned."
if the twist was that this was actually the maestro workshopping an idea he had for taking down the justice league, i'd actually accept it — that's funny — but that isn't the case, there's no reveal at the end. this is legitimately just a fan of theirs who sat down, invented a new type of guy to get in an imaginary beef with the justice league, and then got real worried that the guy he just made up would actually be able to defeat the justice league using a type of mind control ray that makes you dance uncontrollably, another thing he just made up. so he drew the whole thing out as a comic, in loving detail, and sent it in as fan mail. this is utterly deranged and no one comments on it at all. instead the justice league decides this is deserving of a serious, thought-out response so they all sit around and discuss how, actually, they'd totally be able to defeat this completely fictitious supervillain in a fight. i think what they eventually decide is that it definitely wouldn't work because the atom (new member as of an issue or two before this one) can't hear when he's real tiny, so he would have figured out it wasn't the music making him dance, and so they would have gone in to the final showdown prepared. they then draw this out as a comic (actually i think they make wonder woman do it, because She's The Girl and she handles all the "secretary" duties, which includes this bullshit apparently) and send it back to their fan. the... end???
utter madness. i still don't know what to say about any of it

morning babe,
1, 29, 37 <3
Hi babe 🧡
1. Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?
I daydream A LOT. The idea strikes as an imaginary scenario, I write it down, and I daydream about it and extend the plot as I visualize, and write the important points, and then write. It's like a short movie is playing in my head lol
29. What’s something about your writing that you’re proud of?
I think it's that it feels natural? Like, especially the dialogues— which is what most of my fics are heavily focused on, it just flows and the interactions and stories overall look normal, no over the top stuff. And also I love my whump ideas 💀
37. What fic has been the hardest for you to write?
I only have 3 smuts and I think those were the hardest because of...reasons BUT for my usual whump fics, I think the self-surgery one was hard because it was too technical
Send me fanfic asks

What If
Pairing: Loki x Fem! Avenger! Reader
Plot:
A silly game of “What-Ifs” between two friends eventually leads to the realisation that the future, if spent together, may not be as bleak as they had anticipated it to be. A dialogue-based best friends-to-lovers cliché.
Warnings: Relationship angst, too many dialogues, long read, happy ending!!!
Read time: ~28 mins
Author's Note:
It's a long read with far more dialogues than can be deemed healthy. The reason is, I didn't want their arc to feel rushed. It had to be cooked slow. Another reason is that, I can't help hearing my characters, and it triggers a flood of dialogues! I'm trying to work on controlling it. 😬 Hope you enjoy!
Now has a sequel: Their Little Secret
Tumblr media
“C’mon! You’re breaking the rules now,” Loki casually waved his hand at his best friend.
“I’m not. There’s nothing to answer really,” (Y/N) replied with a shrug.
“There must be something on your mind!”
She pretended to think for a second, and shook her head.
---------------------
It was a usual night in the compound. It was just another night when one of these two friends had called the other in the middle of the night for some midnight snack. It was just another of those happy times when they had tiptoed into the kitchen like thieves because...no, no one would mind some missing nachos or ice creams, but because it was fun!
It wasn’t easy for Loki to open up to someone, let alone to allow the other person in. Neither was it easy for (Y/N) to trust somebody, given her past, especially when that somebody was infamous for betraying almost everyone, at every step, not to mention his attempts at ruling Earth and causing massacre.
But time is a healer and a magician.
And here they were now, looking at the moon-washed night life through the west-facing glass wall, and playing a game of “what-ifs”. One would say that it was silly and immature; some would even call their talks gibberish. But when the night was so relaxed and carefree, why wouldn’t they be?
The pale yellow orb hovering above the western horizon cast a soft ray of light through the glass wall. Oblivious to its movements across the room, Loki and (Y/N) were wrapped in a thin blanket on a couch, their feet resting on two separate pouffes.
It had all started with a silly question, something like, “What if you weren’t stuck in this building tonight?”, or something along those lines; they didn’t even remember correctly anymore.
One question led to the other, and soon they found themselves tangled in a game of questions that would have been enough to create an alternate reality. But eventually, they found themselves, not answering with imaginary scenarios, but debating over one particular question:
“What if you find the love of your life tomorrow?”
This question was posed by Loki, rather theatrically, amidst the many others that had tossed different possibilities of their near future. And it was here that (Y/N) refused to play along anymore because, as she stated, it was “the most silly question ever”.
---------------------
“So, you claim that my question is even worse than your ‘What if you were a Jotun cat’? What kind of a question is that anyway?” Loki teased.
“Of course, it is. Undoubtedly!” With one wave of her hand, (Y/N) dismissed his appeal.
“And how is that even logical, may I know?”
“C’mon, this entire game is out of the boundaries of logic,” she claimed. “Your behaviour is like that of a cat. Don’t make that face; it brings you closer to being a cat. And...a Jotun cat sounds cool!”
Loki sighed. “And my question is ridiculous! If the game is beyond all reason, then...” he shrugged, “say something...weird, and move on!”
“Fine! If I-if... If I meet the love of my life tomorrow,...I’ll stab him. Or her. Or them. I don’t even know.” She huffed.
“Ouch!” Loki made a face, ”Didn’t see that coming. I would enjoy the stabbing part though. Thank the Norns, you never declared your feelings for me!”
She looked at him sideways with a stern face. Loki noticed the irritation simmering just beneath her skin, ready to burst out at the next prodding.
“Hey,” he placed a hand on her arm, “what happened? Was it something I said?”
She turned her face away. But Loki wasn’t giving up that easily.
“(Y/N),” he gently tugged at her arm, “look at me.”
When she finally turned towards him, he held her by the shoulders just to make sure that she couldn’t move away again.
“Now, you’ll tell me everything. What happened?” He inquired again. “I thought you were having fun.”
“It’s nothing Loki, it’s just that...you know I don’t like discussing my non-existent love-life. It’s...it kind of makes me...sad sometimes. Especially in a setting like this!” She waved her hands at her surroundings. “I mean, look at it, a full moon, a silent night, blankets and… It just leaves me with this reminder that I’ll be alone all my bloody life!”
Loki’s hands slowly retracted from her form and folded themselves on his chest. And just like that, they both found themselves staring out of the window.
“I’m sorry,” Loki’s voice audibly reflected the guilt that had formed within, “I never intended to...”
“No, you shouldn’t be. It’s...I overreacted. I’m sorry, Loki. I just ruined the mood. Shit! And it’s not my hormones, mind you!”
“I know,” Loki chuckled. “And you did not ruin anything. It’s natural to feel, isn’t it?”
She looked at him with a raised brow, “Somebody’s learning!”
“Somebody’s got a good teacher,” he smiled.
“Aww!! I love it when you acknowledge my awesomeness!” She wrapped an arm around him, pulling him in closer, and pinched his cheek.
“Ugh! Let go of me! Let...go!!”
The room was filled with (Y/N)’s cackles and Loki’s threats as he wriggled out of her grip.
“Do that one more time, and I’ll stab you!”
But it wasn’t enough to stop her chortles.
“Would you now?” she teased, and raised her hands again in a faux attempt at squeezing his cheeks.
He swatted them away.
“Stop it!” He warned again, only to emanate snorts from her.
But the next second, his voice changed into a compassionate one, “Why do you think you’ll be alone all your life? How old are you anyway? 80? 90? Isn’t that supposed to be old in human years?”
Once again her cheerful mood fled behind a thick curtain of annoyance. But this time she did not look away. She simply rolled her eyes, and pulled her legs from the pouffe to sit cross-legged, and shifted to face him.
“No, I’m not that old. But why are you suddenly so interested in this topic?”
“Because suddenly, you seem to have found an interest in getting annoyed.”
“Then don’t annoy me.”
“Not in my nature, I’m afraid.”
She couldn’t decide whether to hit him or laugh at him.
“Loki-” She curled her fists and shut her eyes.
“I’m listening, darling,” he smirked.
Of course, she knew how stubborn Loki could be!
Who else would know that better than me?
“Okay,” she placed her palms flat on her thighs, “the thing is...I can never make a relationship last more than two years. I waste my time trying to establish a...a proper, long-lasting relationship - something permanent - and end up with a heartbreak. Every. Fucking. Time. I’ve given up. I’ve had enough! Now, even if anyone makes a move, or if I’m interested in someone, I just remind myself that it’s not gonna work! I just don’t put any effort anymore.”
Loki hummed in response; his eyes were focused on her as if he was trying to decipher a mystery.
“And,” she continued, “given my current ‘job’,” she air-quoted the word, “I’m more sure than ever that no one will last more than two months now!”
Once she voiced the storm in her head, her eyes softened and she looked down at her lap. Through hooded eyes, she stole a guilty, fleeting glance at her friend, who seemed to be musing about something really serious. His eyes were strained on the carpet, while his chin rested on a fisted hand balancing itself on his thigh.
For a long moment neither said anything. Only the distant buzz of the sleepless city floated through the air and filled the room.
It was Loki who disrupted the silence with a long and heavy sigh.
“I knew that Midgardian men were impatient, narcissistic-”
“Look who’s talking,” she smirked as she interrupted him.
He gave her a quick deadpanned stare before resuming, “-imbeciles, but I was beginning to think that they have good tastes in women. It’s disappointing, not surprising though, that they have proven me wrong.”
A small laugh almost made its way to its escape, but she pushed it back. “You think so?” She quipped.
He shrugged, “From what you’ve said, there is no reason to think otherwise.”
She sat a little straighter. “Really? Do go on!”
Loki immediately noticed the effect that he had planned for. Without giving away the joy of his small triumph, he continued, “Indeed! Look at you! You’re an amazing woman! You’re brave, witty, independent...smart...excellent with knives! And that’s my favourite thing about you, by the way. ”
Feigning offence, she exclaimed, “And I thought your favourite thing about me was that I tolerate all your tantrums, and keep up with your shenanigans.”
“I don’t throw tantrums, darling,” he pushed the accusation away with his silky tone, “and don’t tell me that you take no pleasure in the havoc that we wreck together.”
At this, she could no longer suppress the evil grin that spread across her face, “I do love a bit of chaos. It’s fun.”
“To think of it,” Loki added excitedly, “had you been on Asgard, you might have been the Goddess of Chaos!”
“Oh! Thank you!” She replied with a dramatic wave of her hands.
Both laughed at the way their words were unfolding.
“Thank you, Loki,” (Y/N) said after their little whirlwind of laughter had calmed down, “I guess I needed to hear something nice about myself. It’s been a long, long time since I heard it.”
“I meant every word of it,” he replied in a solemn tone that made something flutter in her chest.
Was it gratitude? Was it joy? Was it love for her best friend?
It was hard to tell. It seemed to be everything at once.
She simply smiled at him. “Even the ‘Goddess of Chaos’ part?”
“Especially that part,” he asserted, and she laughed.
“You’re the best, Loki!” She gave him a half hug.
“That, I definitely am. But you’re not too shabby yourself. And you should never ever be sad for someone else’s failure.”
“Alright, I get what you’re trying to do here,” she landed a playful punch to his shoulder. “I’m fine! Really! I just got a little carried away.”
“No, I really mean it,” he tried to assure her. “You are one of the most magnificent women I have known! And mind you, I’m rather picky in these cases.”
She laughed, “Of course, I’d know that! ... Loki, it’s...it’s alright. Some people just don’t have it in them to sustain relationships no matter how wonderful they are. I’m okay with it.”
“Come on! A narcissistic God is showering you with genuine compliments! And you’re still not convinced that it’s not your fault but of all those who failed to keep up with you?”
She tried another attempt at convincing him, “It works both ways.”
“Norns! I can’t believe you’re so foolish!”
“Enlighten me, please,” she drawled.
“I believe I have already established the fact that you are phenomenal.”
When she giggled and nodded, he carried on.
“Good. Now, your job, as you put it, shouldn’t be a hindrance in your relationship. You’re doing the marvellous job of being a guardian to thousands of people. People you don’t even know! How many would put their necks out there to do it?”
“C’mon, Loki, when duty calls, you have to leave everything behind and just go! Who’d tolerate that for days? They will snap one day.”
“I’d never do that!” Realizing his mistake, he quickly corrected himself, “What I mean is, had I been in their place, I’d have never done that.”
“That’s because you’re on the team,” she argued. “So, it’s normal to you.”
“No, it’s not because I’m on the team. I’d-” He sighed. “Fine, why don’t you try finding someone from this field? Stark’s parties are a great place to hunt humans.”
“‘Hunt humans’?” She snorted, “I like the sound of that. Nay, haven’t found anyone. Besides, mixing professional and personal life can be fatal. You never know when your personal life might get jeopardised because of a mission gone wrong. Y’know, the usual blame-game and all. I hate all that!”
Loki brooded over her words for a few seconds before asking, “I don’t get it. Why would it be fatal? I mean, look at us,” he gestured in between them. “We have a perfect understanding. We’d never blame the other for any petty thing. Or-or let it affect our friendship.”
“That’s because we have the perfect understanding, Loki! You said it yourself. It’s a rare thing that we have. And I can’t expect it to be with anyone else. They’re not you, Loki.”
“They’re not us,” he corrected her.
Joy seeped through his senses as he watched her face brighten up at his words.
With a nod, she continued, “You see, all that spark, excitement, promises - these sound really great at the beginning. As time passes, as the real world pushes in, love moves to the backseat. Love is not enough. There comes a time when you have to balance everything together, and love becomes one of those things. It becomes a chore.”
“I’m sorry, I don’t follow you,” Loki stated with a frown. “That sounds so sad!”
“It is!”
“Well, it shouldn’t be! Loving you shouldn’t be a chore! Let’s say...hypothetically...if I’m in love with you, then you’d be my passion. And passions never become a duty, not even in the worst of times. Instead, they help us breathe when everything comes caving in. You’d be my...my moment of peace in a war. How could I not be tempted to embrace this beautiful moment?”
“Unfortunately, Loki, that’s not how it works. See, when you have a lot on your plate, say your job, your dreams, your daily life and all the pressure that comes with these, you’ll find less and less time for your loved one. Things get hectic and eventually frustrating. You won’t be able to keep that flame alive even if you want to. And one day, you’ll come to realize that you have distanced yourself from your moment, even if you never wanted to. But it’d be too late. There’d be no going back.”
“I’d never distance myself from you! I mean, from my moment. I’ve been a king, and I know how taxing royal duties can be. Sometimes, it seemed like a luxury to get even a minute to myself.”
“See? So, how could you have found time for me?”
“I would have, darling. Not plenty, but whatever little time I’d have gathered, I’d have made them memorable. For you. For us. And maybe we could have gone on long rides occasionally. Rekindle the old flames? Or-or we could have gone on visits to other realms...for political reasons, of course, but could have taken the opportunity to spend a small vacation with each other. What do you say?”
Painfully tempting images of a life that could have been floated in her eyes.
“And what if we came back to Earth, and I got involved in...say, a job that was all hectic and left me all frustrated, and with little time for you?” She shrugged.
With a sigh, Loki shifted to face her fully. “We will take care of each other, (Y/N). If one gets low, the other pulls both up. And I know that together, we can do anything! I believe in you more than I believe in myself.”
She smiled brightly as she acknowledged, “That is...that sounds doable, yes.”
“You’re special,” he placed a hand on her cheek, “and you need to be treated in the most special manner. One that befits my queen.”
A moment passed between them as they looked into each other's eyes, both seeing the same beautiful picture.
His queen!
My queen!!
Wait, what is he...?
Damn! What am I doing! What will she...!
Loki cleared his throat as he abruptly pulled his hand back to his side.
“I’m sorry, I...”
“No, it’s okay,” she cringed at the way the words squeaked out of her. Clearing her throat, she continued, “We were just giving examples.”
“Yes, just examples,” he agreed.
“It’s fine! I understand.”
“Great! It’d have been quite...awkward...otherwise.”
“Oh no! It’s...uh...totally fine. We’re best buddies!” She gave his arm a light punch.
“Right!” He nodded, and focused his gaze on the floor.
After taking a minute to calm his heart, he wore his witty persona back.
“See, having a relationship is not at all tough. All you need is a good partner. And I’ve proved myself right again! No, wait. There’s something you mortals do. It’s...uh...about throwing something...”
“Goblets? We don’t do that. It’s you-”
“No, not throwing, it’s about dropping something...after you have proven a point...”
“...Mic drop?” She chuckled.
His eyes lit up.
“Yes! ‘Mic drop’. So, as I was saying, all you need to have a happy and successful relationship is a good partner. Mic drop!” He concluded as he mimicked the action.
She sighed. “There’s just one tiny problem. I’d probably never find the right person. The ones that flirt with me, don’t understand me, and the ones that understand me have friendzoned me.”
“I’ve never friendzoned you,” Loki quickly replied with a frown. “J-Just clarifying...in case you were talking about me.”
“Of course, I’m talking about you, you big oaf!” She flicked his arm.
“Hey! You friendzoned me.”
“No…? It was you! Well, yeah, I never tried to flirt with you or anything but...anybody could see that you were being just my friend.”
“I can say the same about you,” Loki playfully accused.
“Whatever,” she shrugged.
A thought started playing in her mind. And a couple of seconds later, she decided to say it aloud, “I...umm...Just curious...y’know, don’t take it in any other way. Did you ever think of flirting with me?” She put forward each word very cautiously.
Loki furrowed his brows, and opened his mouth to reply, but before he could, she warned him, “Be honest!”
Immediately, his confident attitude changed into a helpless one. “Yes, I did. Maybe once. Or twice. But that was all! I assure you!”
She could hardly contain the amusement that was bubbling inside.
“What’s so funny about it?” Loki asked with furrowed brows.
“Nothing,” she shook her head as she tried to hold back her laughter, “nothing at all. It’s,” and then she lost it, “I’m sorry! It’s funny! I don’t know why, I find it funny hearing from you!”
“Look who’s laughing!” He said wryly. “I could clearly hear your thoughts the first few days after I stepped into this structure. Every compliment that your little mind cooed at my divine persona. And may I dare say that not all of them were decent.”
Her hysterics were long forgotten as her face went red at the comment.
“How dare you invade my mind?” Her hand had balled into a fist, ready to hit his arm when he caught it.
“I didn’t invade it, darling. You were practically shouting inside that pretty head of yours. I could have heard it from the other side of the planet!”
“That was a long time ago,” she refused to meet his eyes. “I make better choices and better decisions now.”
“Do you?”
She opened her mouth to speak but closed it without uttering a syllable, and crossed her arms.
Loki nudged her with his elbow. “Hey, it’s fun to tease you. Don’t be a spoilsport.”
“I hate you,” she peeked at him through the corner of her eye.
“What can I say,” Loki sighed. “Alright, if you say so.”
She smirked as she glanced at him sideways.
Loki cleared his throat in a not-so-subtle manner. “So, the next time Stark throws a party, I’ll find someone for you.”
Immediately, she face-palmed, and groaned, “No.”
“What?”
“Please drop this topic. And you’d probably find me a psychopath, anyway” She joked.
“That hurt!” Loki exclaimed with a hurt look masking his humour, “do you think so little of me? Can’t I find a proper partner for my best friend, my darling?”
“No, it didn’t hurt. Don’t fake it. I know you better than anyone.”
“No, you don’t. You-”
“I do. And...I’m fine, Loki” she reassured him, “being with myself, with the people here, being with you.” She gently bumped her knee into his.
“Will these be enough?” His tone had left the playfulness behind. “Will I be enough? For all your life?”
She shrugged, “I think so. You...stick with me all the time, you understand me, you...make me feel good. What more could I want to be happy?”
“You know what more you are missing. A friend can never touch the boundaries of what a lover can give you.”
“I don’t need a lover. Just be with me all my life, and I won’t need anyone else.”
He gave her hand a light squeeze. “I will. I promise.”
Her playful smile was back. “Thanks for all the pep talk, my dearest God. But turns out that I’m better off alone. Now can we please go back to the game? It’s my turn to ask you.”
“Alright,” he smiled back, “if you say so.”
“Stop saying that!” A defeated sigh left her. “You won’t be convinced, will you?”
“Probably not. Because I know that this will gnaw at you again a few days later. I know you’ll be sad again. And that I won’t allow on my watch.”
“God!”
“Right here, listening to you!” Loki quipped.
Rolling her eyes, she muttered, ”Damn you!” And proceeded to put forward a proper argument.
“The reason why I’m avoiding a new relationship is because I don’t want another heartache. I can’t handle breakups. That’s why I’m...”
When Loki didn’t make another attempt at dissuading her from her arguments, she added, “I just...try everything to avoid a heartbreak. Because when I get one, I lose control over myself.”
“Yes, I’ve seen. Once.”
“Then you must have noticed how vicious I become. Sarcasm drips from my mouth all the time, I say things that I shouldn’t, I...I hurt people. And in turn, I hurt myself. I yell at those who want nothing but good for me. But...”
“But being mean seems to be the only way to mask the pain,” he finished her line.
“It does, yes!”
She looked at him, and into his eyes that silently spoke of the pain that was resurfacing. She remembered something.
“You and I are so...alike!”
He nodded with a smile. “And maybe that is why we understand each other more than anyone ever could. … But we’re more than just being alike, if you think about it.”
She noticed how his voice gradually rose from its usual calmness to an excited tone, and his hands moved with his words.
Loki continued, “You point out my mistakes but don’t accuse me like everyone else does. You show me what’s right. And there’s this-this thing about you, which is so scary...the way you make me do all the things that you want. I-I mean, I am the God here! But you…a mortal...how can you have so much power over me?”
He sighed as his voice dropped to a compassionate tone, “You make me happy, (Y/N). You’ve taught me to forgive when I can, to forget what I can’t fix.”
“Don’t always do that,” she interrupted with a smirk.
His evil smile made a brief appearance before he resumed his warm note, “I like being with you. No...I love being with you! You make me feel good. You make me feel...I don’t know.... You make me feel…”
“Complete?”
“Yes!” He observed her, “You complete me.”
For yet another time, silence enveloped them. The only difference was that this time, it was comfortable. Even in their hushed moments, they could hear each other, know what the other wanted to say.
After a while of exchanging quiet stares, (Y/N) spoke, “All this time I believed, but now I know for myself, that you are indeed Silvertongue!”
Loki looked at his lap and laughed, but in the pale light of the setting moon, she noticed the pink that had crept up his ears and cheeks.
“I meant every word of what I said,” he reassured her once again that evening.
“I know, Loki.”
Loki watched her as she shifted to a kneeling position, and leaned towards him. He felt his face becoming hotter as she supported herself on his shoulder with one hand, and placed a soft kiss on his cheekbone.
As she settled back, her lips tingled with the memory of Loki’s skin on it.
They had been best friends, yes, but she had never allowed herself more than a quick hug because she knew that Loki wasn’t someone open to random touches. And she wanted to respect that. Always.
But this peck felt right. It felt necessary. And it felt...different.
What happened next wasn’t guided by logic anymore, but only by their senses.
Loki put his legs back on the pouffe, and scooted a little closer to (Y/N). Taking the cue, she shifted so that her leg was stretched out, and back on the pouffe - not on hers but his - and sat close to him. He arranged the blanket so that it covered them both again.
Another stretch of silence enveloped them. To them, the moment was beautiful. To Loki, who had never experienced anything similar before, it was precious. If he could stop time, he would have done it right then and there.
“Why haven’t you found anyone yet?” She asked him.
“Royalty has its disadvantages,” he replied without taking a moment to think.
She leaned back slightly to get a good look at his face, “Didn’t you ever find anyone from the royal...uh...what do you call it? Of royal blood?”
Loki laughed at her naivety. “Can’t say I didn’t. But none of them were the one. Besides, most people chose my handsome brother over me. And if anyone chose me, well, it was mostly because of my royal title. None of them were real.”
“That’s awful! I would never have done that to you! I’d have chosen you for the wonderful being that you are. But, I get it; happens on our planet, too.”
“Everywhere,” he asserted.
“So...who do you think is the one for you?”
He looked down at her face, which was mere inches away from his. For the first time in months of their friendship, he felt something swell inside his chest at the closeness.
“I still don’t know,” he whispered, “but I think the Norns might have started giving me clues.”
He didn’t need to explain, obviously. All the tension that had been building up throughout the night had placed them both on the same page.
Without thinking, Loki moved his wrist so that his palm was facing the ceiling. And instinctively, (Y/N) placed her hand in it, their fingers closing around each other.
"It's odd," she announced after a while.
"Indeed."
"It's weird. I mean, what were we even thinking!" She huffed, although she was still clutching his hand, as was he holding hers.
"Exactly what I was thinking. You and me?” Loki laughed nervously, “Come on!"
"Yeah!"
"Right".
Silence, their faithful companion for the night, visited them once again.
"Could it be? You and me?" Loki’s voice was a little more than a whisper, and bordered on the edge of confidence and doubt.
"Doesn't sound so bad. Not after all these... Talks?" She whispered back.
"Right!"
"Right."
And once again, they fell quiet.
The strangeness of the moment pushed them both into a whirlpool of thoughts. From acquaintances to partners to friends to best friends to...lovers?
Can this even be possible? What if it’s just a passing phase? What if everything goes back to normal tomorrow? Will we still be able to talk normally? But… This feels right. Just...right.
With a sigh, (Y/N) put her head on Loki’s shoulder.
"I don't want to rush into anything and ruin what we have," she confessed in a hushed tone, eyes staring into the night outside.
"Neither do I. You're the only one I have."
With a raised brow, she looked up at him.
"And Thor," he corrected himself with a small smile.
"Glad you remember him "
"Shut up.
Slowly, hesitantly, Loki put his free hand around her. Unsure of the appropriateness of the action, he kept his arm loosely hanging around her frame.
He waited for a while. Had Loki looked at her face, instead of looking straight ahead in fear, he would have noticed the small smile that had formed on her lips.
When she didn’t flinch or protest, he began to rest his arm properly but gently on her. He even went ahead and made the slightest possible effort to pull her closer to him.
The smile that had started forming on her now spread wide enough to turn into a grin. Its reflection was found on Loki’s face, too, who could finally muster the courage to look at her, although he was equally worried that she would be able to hear his heart trying to hammer its way out of his chest.
With every minute that passed, Loki became more baffled, for he couldn’t decide which moment he’d frame and hang on the wall of his heart as the most precious one.
"Are you feeling hot?" She asked without looking at him.
"A bit, yes. You, too?"
"Quite a bit, actually," she gulped.
"Is it normal?"
"I guess, yes. Totally! Had we been cool about it, it'd have meant that there's no spark between us. It’d have felt awkward, wrong."
"So, you agree that there's a spark between us?" He didn’t even attempt to hide the mischievous smirk that shone on his face.
"I had always suspected," she nodded.
"Hmm. When was the last time we went out for dinner?" He asked.
“Probably last month...or was it-”
(Y/N)’s head snapped up to look at him. She could barely put a lid on her excitement.
"Are you proposing to take me out on a date?"
"Well, if we are going to do this, then I'd like to court you properly."
She felt like she'd burst out of sheer excitement.
"If you'd agree to it, that is" Loki clarified.
Taking a large breath, she replied, "I'd love it."
The night was going better than either had expected. Who would have thought that a game of weird questions and a few confessions could change their lives!
(Y/N) put her head back on his shoulder, and let her body slump against him. He held her confidently this time.
“It still feels weird though,” she declared.
“It does, yes, but...maybe this is...right?” In a long time, Loki was hopeful about something, and he wasn’t going to let it slip away. No.
“I hope so.”
“Me, too.”
“Just so you know,” she sat up straight, “Thor is handsome, yes, but you are devilishly charming. You’re intelligent, well-read, witty, sarcastic, great at combat...uh...”
“Go on,” Loki smirked, earning a playful glare from her.
“You are,” she continued, “seductive! And who can resist a sorcerer who knows his way around everything!”
The evil smile that Loki had put away found its way back on his face. “As far as I remember, I did nothing to seduce you. I wonder what will happen if I try...”
“Shut up, Loki! You know I give away raw compliments. I didn’t really mean...I didn’t think...”
He laughed heartily at the furious way she was blushing.
“I was only pulling your leg. I had imagined you to be wise,” he clarified.
“I am! It’s just... I was...” She shook her head.
“So,” Loki resumed, “you think I’m devilishly charming?”
“Drop the topic, please!”
“You can’t resist my sorcery, ha?”
“Please change the topic! Forget what I said!!”
Loki laughed as he continued teasing her. It wasn’t going to be an easy ride, she realized, with the God of Mischief, but it was going to be the best ever!
“(Y/N)?”
“Hmm?”
“I know it was your turn to ask but, what if...you and I are indeed meant to be together?”
She smiled as she rubbed her cheek on his shirt, “I think we’ll have a gorgeous future together. And...I’d love that more than anything else.”

The next morning...
“Morning, Wanda-”
“Shh! Shh!!” The red-haired witch silenced Natasha, and pointed towards the couch.
Curious, Natasha’s eyes followed the direction that Wanda’s finger was pointing at.
There, snuggled in a blanket, fast asleep, sat (Y/N) and Loki, their legs spread on a pouffe, tangled with each other’s. Loki’s arm was wrapped around her shoulder while she was holding his waist. Her head lay on his chest and his on hers.
“Aren’t they cute?” Wanda whispered.
Before Nat could reply, Tony’s voice cut the conversation.
“Who’s cute?”
This time, both the ladies shushed him, leaving a perplexed expression on his once sleepy face.
When they pointed towards the couch, Tony huffed, “These two! God knows what’s taking them so long to realise! They’re just so-” His face lit up. “Know what? I have an idea! I’ll make them confess. Who’s up for it?”

Hello.
Lately I've been thinking that I might have MaDD. But it seems like one of the main elements that define MaDD is the fact that the excessive daydream is supposed to cause distress or social impairment to the person dealing with it.
But I think that it would be difficult for introverts to relate to this even if they have all the symptoms of MaDD.
Introverts are already socially impaired individuals. They already live inside their head and they'd rather spend every single hour of the day in their own space without interacting with any other human being. The external world is what causes distress in their life.
As an introvert myself, I think i started daydreaming when I was around 10 yrs old after I had to deal with some stressful events. This new world I created in my mind kept me sane for more than 14 yrs. My fictional characters helped me get through my hardest times. They are the ones who deal with the strong emotions that I can't personally deal with, like anger, sadness, genuine happiness. Whenever I can't express those emotions, I know for sure that my fictional characters will find the best way to live them to the fullest. Whenever i'm sad, they are 20×times sadder.
My characters are 100% fictional. Their personal background hasn't changed for the past 14 yrs (mostly traumatic), but they have to deal with different situations everyday like disease, death, work or family-related problems. Most of the time, my main characters discuss about important social topics like feminism, sexuality, racism, morality, marriage, etc...
I'm not a part of this world, so I am in no way involved in my characters' lives. But my mood influence their situation just like I am influenced by their deep interactions/dialogues and their original way of dealing with every inconvenience.
Yes I cry over their traumatic experiences.
Yes I'm the happiest when they are living their best life.
Yes, I'm often impressed by how deep they can get into their debates/dialogues, which makes me kinda proud of my imagination.
I can daydream for 1-4 hours a day. I am always mad when my daydream is interrupted and I often have to quickly change my facial expressions when someone enters my room unexpectedly. Tears, smile, expression of disgust or wonder are the main clinical symptoms I deal with. As an introvert, I rarely express anything externally, so I don't pace or talk while daydreaming.
I often have to get back to an episode of my daydream with new plots and better or deeper ideas. Most importantly, I can get out of a daydream if I absolutely have to. I know it's not real but it's just so comfortable .
Sometimes, I can read or watch movies or listen to music normally without going back to my daydream, even if they might actually bring new ideas for my scenarios. On other days, I can't remain concentrated on whatever I'm doing because every single thing acts like a trigger.
As I already told you, I never had a real social life, so my daydream doesn't really interfere in my interactions with the external world (family, classmates, colleagues,....). And as a professional procrastinator, I often spend time doing nothing even if I'm not daydreaming. So excessively daydreaming has little to no impact on my social life. I just know that I daydream too much and that my emotions are way too linked to that fictional world so it's kinda dangerous. I feel empty when I don't daydream for weeks. I feel disconnected from my inner-self, even if I am not usually a part of my imaginary world.
I want to know if I can still identify myself as potentially having MaDD even if the excessive daydreaming doesn't cause distress or social impairment in my life.
#MaDD
I try to deal mostly with directing people to resources and facts on this blog, though sometimes I give my opinion and/or advice. The following is completely personal opinion: I think your reasoning here is fundamentally flawed in viewing introversion as a social impairment. Introverts are a wide spectrum of people with different behaviours, but their preference for being reserved or working alone is not necessarily 'impaired', they're just a different way of doing things as compared to extroverts. MD does not only effect social interactions either. An introvert may do fine socially but find their daydreaming impacting other areas of their life. Or, though they may prefer to spend 'time in their head' they might like to do that with an activity like reading and find it difficult because they can't stop the fantasy from taking over. I think that just because someone has a more introverted disposition it does not mean there is little for MD to effect negatively. As for your question at the end; MD is defined by it's negative effect on ones life. This effect is different for everyone, and the line between 'this is fine' and 'this is a problem for me' is different for everyone too. I don't know where that line is for you, perhaps you have not found it yet, it can be very blurry for some people. But, if after careful consideration, you do find that there is no distress or dysfunction caused to you by your daydreaming habit then, no, you would not have to label yourself with MD. There's nothing maladaptive about choosing to spend your free time daydreaming if it is having a positive effect on your wellbeing.

Home Sweet Home: Catch ‘Em
Summary- 3.9k Andy Barber x You. You and Andy almost have it all, married and with a jointed family consisting of Andy’s teenage son Jacob, as well as your two younger children John and Cassidy. Looking to add another member, your family is in need of a bigger house, a forever home. You find just the place, 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville Long Island.    Home Sweet Home
Written for @optimistic-dinosaur-nacho Spooky Scary Stories challenge. Divider by @firefly-graphics
Warnings- Child Endangerment, Hints of Smut (nothing graphic) Swears.
A/N- I chose Amityville Horror for the challenge because its one of my favorite Spook Stories growing up. When reading you will find a lot of similarities to the 2005 Movie, some of the scenarios and dialogue are specifically from that film. Other parts of it are from the book itself. The family name was changed for my own personal reasons. Happy Haunting!  🎃
A/N 2- We’re halfway through!
Chapter 2 / Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The family settled and a few weeks later, morning started out normal for the rest of the household , but didn't start that way for Andy. His coughing never seemed to break and he was covered in a light sheen of sweat. You were already up to make breakfast for everyone, and Andy came down the stairs, rubbing at his chest.
“Coffee Andy?” You ask while holding the coffee pot over his mug but he shook his head.
“No, I actually came down hoping to find some cough syrup? Or pain medicine? Anything really. We don't have any upstairs.”
“Oh I tossed out the old stuff. But I will pick some up when I go out today. I told Jacob that I would drop him off at the high school today after I got John on the bus.”
Just as you were saying this, a stampede of footsteps came down the stairs making Andy wince a bit and all three kids came around the corner into the kitchen. Andy barked out a bit sharply, which even surprised you. “Y’all don’t need to be running on the stairs.” He coughed again and shivered. “Fuck its cold… I'm going down to check on the heater. If you could get that stuff, that would be great.”
He snapped the door open and disappeared from sight while you were staring after him in surprise. Even all three of the kids seem to be in shock. Jacob just shrugged at his father's weird behavior and went to sit on a stool at the kitchen bar, the other two following him while you set plates with some scrambled eggs on them in front of them. Jacob just took toast nibbling on the edge of it a bit.
“My phone cant keep any kind of charge whatsoever! I just got this thing to.” Jacob flipped it around to show you, and you saw it was already at 50 percent. You frowned at that, because of course he had one of the better styles of phones. Much better than anything you've ever had.
“Your charging cord is working and everything?” You question and he nods, slipping it in his pocket.
“Works just fine. It charges it to one hundred percent, twenty minutes later it is back down to fifty.”
You shrug at Jacob at a loss and happen to glance at a small clock on the kitchen windowsill. “Shit.” you hiss out and down the last of your coffee. “Come on, time for the bus before we're late. Jake, meet you in the car.” You grab your car keys and open the door to call down to Andy. “I'm taking the kids to school.”
You heard nothing more than a resounding deep cough and frowned reminding yourself to pick up that cough medicine for Andy on your way home. “Got your backpack John? Alright, lets go.” The whole pack of kids ushered out the door, leaving Andy all alone.
Tumblr media
Andy is pacing downstairs, waiting for the heater to kick on, cursing it out.
“Spent all this money and the damn thing wont work.” he mutters while pulling the chair from his desk to it to sit in front of it, messing with the buttons on the front till a groaning protest came from the heater, and it clicked on to blast a bit of cool air, and quickly switched to warm. Rolling his chair back to his desk, he pulled out files from the bottom drawer to contact his clients and inform them that he was back in business at his new location.
He was so tired though, having felt like he was up half the night feeling ill, and within a few moments he simply closed his eyes to rest them, he would use as an excuse to himself. Within moments he nodded off, and the creeping shadow came out of hiding, solidifying in front of his desk. Sharp clicking steps echoed against the cement floor and claws seared when they touched the wood of Andy's desk. It leaned forward to loom over the desk, over Andy whose chin rested against his chest. Forked tongue slithered along Andy's face, making him twitch in his sleep, whispering “Catch ‘em, Kill ‘em” Red eyes watched his victim for a moment, seemingly at peace in this state. It flexed its hands, claws scratching into the wood before giving a hard shake, sending  papers and pens flying, Andy’s laptop skidding across the surface and a picture that you had set on there yesterday crashing loudly to the floor. Cracking the glass into shattering pieces across the floor to glint wickedly. Andy’s eyes sprang open and he tipped forward to grab his shaking desk in surprise to see glowing red eyes and the scream of “Catch ‘em!”
Then it all stopped, and he shoved back from his desk, pressing his heels to his eyes thinking he was seeing things. “What the fuck, what the fuck.” when he lifted his head, his breathing shaky to look at his desk, it was all normal. His papers were still exactly where he had set them before, his laptop in sleep mode ready to be used, pens all neatly lined up how he liked, and his family looking at him with wide happy smiles and laughs at the beach, the glass shining slightly in the light.
“Jesus Christ Andy, get it together.” he shivered, cold once more and started coughing again. The door at the top of the stairs opened and your soft footsteps brought you down, Andy glanced up to see you carrying a steaming mug with the string of a tea bag wrapped around the handle and a paper bag that he assumed must have been the med’s he asked for. You reached the bottom and started approaching him, seeing his flushed face, the way he was heavy breathing with the rise of his chest, and you frowned while sitting the mug in front of him.
“Baby, you don't look so good.” Your hand brushed against the side of his face, and it felt ice cold to him. Jerking out of your touch a bit, he wrapped his hands around the mug and sipped from it, scowling at the taste.
“Don't talk to me like one of the kids Y/N.” he bit out of nowhere and he could see your face flash in a bit of hurt. “Sorry- sorry I don't know what's wrong. Just a head cold is all. Are those the med’s?”
“I got you a bit of everything.” your voice was colder towards him now, turned off from his offhand comment, and you set those down to, Andy knew he had to make it up to you, that was twice in the same morning he had been short, completely out of character for him. His hand wrapped around your waist and pulled you into his lap, pressing a kiss to your shoulder.
“I’m sorry I have been an ass this morning.” He said, hoping you would ease up a bit. Which you did, he felt you relax on his thigh and your hand lifted to brush through his hair, tilting your head.
“I know you're not feeling good. Come up soon and lay back down though? I am worried about you.” you confess, and he nods. “I gotta go back up and check on Cassidy.”
You leave him at his work, and going up the stairs, you leave the door open to let the kitchen's sunshine at least shine down the dark stairs. Maybe it will remind Andy to come back up you think to yourself as you leave the kitchen.
As soon as you do, the door eases shut, closing him back down in the dark belly of the house. Up the stairs, you walk the long hallway towards Cassidy’s room, gazing along the walls, imagining the photos you wanted to hang along the way when you heard Cassidy’s soft voice seemingly talking to someone.
“No Jody, I cant. Mommy wouldn't like that, and neither would Andy.” You tilt your head curiously hearing this now, recalling her mentioning someone by that name a few times now since moving in.
“Well, okay Jody, that doesn't sound too bad. And it is really cool. He took me out on it a few times. Even let me drive it once.”
You eased her door open to see her standing in the middle of her room, and she jumped when she saw you.
“Oh mommy! You scared me.” She giggled, and you poked your head around the door to see what she was talking to. Nothing, there was nothing there.
“Who are you talking to, Babygirl?” You ask, and Cassidy looks once more where she had been talking before answering.
“Jody, but they are gone now.” she hummed and turned towards her box of toys to dig through it. You come into the room and go to sit on the edge of her bed, watching as she pulled out a few of her dolls and brought out her tea set.
You wiggle your nose a bit, knowing imaginary friends were not uncommon. You pull up to a stand as she is setting up her dolls around a small table. “Do you want me to have tea with you?”
“No Mommy, I wanna just play by myself.” She said happily and you lean down to kiss the top of her head. Walking out, Cassidy followed behind you, peeking out to see you heading off to go back down the stairs.
“Okay Jody, she's gone. You still wanna go down to see the boat?” Cassidy looked over her shoulder to see the closet door easing open on its own. Cassidy giggled, and raced out of her bedroom, one goal in mind. Going to the boathouse.
Tumblr media
You're in the kitchen, unpacking the last few boxes when you hear Cassidy’s feet thumping down the stairs. Luckily Andy is still down in the basement and hopefully can't hear the thumps that seemed to bother him. You were surprised in finding the door, but figured he must have had to shut it if he was talking to a client. Opening it back up to hear Andy was still downstairs, typing away on his laptop now with the clicking noise that worked its way up the stairs. Humming you lift another box on the table and start to unpack the contents. Turning your back from the fridge, you hop up to sit on the edge of the counter so you could fit the dishes together and put them on the upper shelf you couldn't reach. Unnoticed by you, the alphabet letters on the fridge start shifting around, letters coming together to fit together in a couple words.
When you finish, you hop off the counter and turn back to catch sight of the refrigerator door, your eyes widening at the horrible words spelled on the door.
Katch ‘em Kill ‘em
You gasp in shock at them, wondering who would have possibly written that. Thumps on the stairs distracted you half a second and Andy appeared with his mug for a refill. “Andy, did you write that on the fridge?” you say in a slightly accusing voice, and he frowns while glancing at you as he heads to put the kettle on the stove.
“What are you talking about Y/N?”
“The magnets on the fridge.” You answer and you both turn to the fridge door to see the letters scattered all over the place, not spelling anything. You scowl in frustration, because you know what you saw and Andy gives you a strange look.
“What words?” he asks while he's at the sink, filling up the kettle with water and you just shake your head.
“Nothing, I thought I saw something, but I didn't.” you brush it off, now unsure of what you saw. While you're unwrapping more dishes, you suddenly hear Andy utter. “Oh shit, Cassidy!” and the tin sound of the kettle crashing in the sink while Andy is sprinting to the back door and outside. You drop what you're doing and follow him out, right on his heels as he's running down the wooden deck steps and headed straight for the boat house. “ANDY?” You shout from behind him as he's running full out across the deck. “What's wrong?!” your panicked, unsure what is going on while Andy is trying to wrench the door open.
“Cassidy, I saw her go in here.” He rushed out as he wrenched on the handle, trying to get it to unclasp. You start pounding on the door now in a frantic way, Cassidy couldn't swim, and the boat house was stretched over the lake, should she slip in, there was a good chance she would drown. Your fear builds as Andy continues trying to get the door open. “What the fuck. CASS! OPEN THE DOOR.” he yells while trying to push it open.
“Oh god Andy, get it open, get it open.” tears start to well up in your eyes as you picture your daughter slipping under the water out of sight.
Andy growls out and pushes you aside to slam against the door, hoping to wrench it open. “I'm trying Y/N, get out of the way.”
Your just about to jump in to swim around to the other side of the boat house when the door sprang open and you both race in, looking around the dim interior to see Cassidy standing on the nose of the motor boat just staring out over the lake, you gasp in surprise seeing her like that as Andy made his way carefully along the edge of the deck not to startle her.
“Cass, Babygirl, look at me.” Andy says softly as he makes his way towards her. Your right behind him.
“Cassidy, look at Andy.” you whimper out, watching as she gets closer to the edge of the boat, and her gaze was so far away out over the lake, like she never noticed you or Andy trying to get to her.
“Cass!” He says more urgently, and she jumps to look at him, slipping a bit as the boat rocks from her movements. “Take my hand baby.” He stretches his hand out and she shakes her head a bit.
“I can’t, I gotta go.” Cass say’s with certainty, tilting her head like she was listening to someone else. “Jody want’s to take me to play.”
“Take his hand Cass!” your panic rushing your voice and Andy stretches out further over the water, his voice turning hard and authoritative.
“Cassidy I’m not asking again. Take my hand.” When Cassidy heard him this time, she snapped her head to look at him and her eyes grew wide with surprise. She stretched for his hand, her fingers trying to reach for his. Andy is quick to snatch her and pull her off the boat to safety, falling back against the wall from the momentum. You gather your daughter in your arms, giving a sob.
“Cassidy what were you doing, you could have drowned.”
Now the girl is caught up in Andy's and yours fear, giving her own sob as tears burst from her eyes while you and Andy rush out of the boat house with her strongly clutched in your arms, stopping just outside as she wails out. “Jody wanted to see the boat Mommy! Jody wanted me to go with them.”
“Cass, there is no Jody!” your nerves shook so you shout at her in anger and fear, and Andy reaches to take Cassidy from your arms.
“She's scared Y/N and didn't know any better, yelling isn't going to help.” He turns the little girl in his arms as she sobs into his shoulder, his hand smoothing along her back to calm her down. “Hey Kiddo, it's going to be okay.” He tried calming Cassidy who’s sobs wracked her body in Andy’s arms, and you walked away a bit to take a shuddering inhale. You know he's right, you're just upsetting her more, but your fear outweighed that right now.
“Just lock that damn door Andy, so this doesn't happen again.” you look back at the door and he nods.
“I will go pick up a lock at the hardware store, I promise.” He assured you and you nodded, wiping away your tears. Now your daughters crying in Andy’s shoulder upset you, made you feel guilty for yelling at her. You move to press your hand against her back and say her name. She tilts her head to look at you through teary eyes and you try giving her a shaky smile.
“I’m sorry baby, I didn't mean to yell. You just really scared me and Andy.”
She gave a sniffle and Andy eased her back so she could wipe her face dry and look at both of them.
“I’m-i’m sorry. Next time I will ask.” She said, and you nodded. Andy shifted her once more to rest on his hip.
“Cassidy, the boathouse is dangerous and you know off limits to you and John. If Jody tells you to do something you're not supposed to, what do you tell Jody?” he asked and the little girl lifted her arm to wipe her face again, hiccuping as she tried to catch her breath.
“I tell Jody no Andy.” she said, his hand still rubbing against her back.
“That's right, if you're not sure if you're allowed, you come ask Mommy, Me, or Jacob if it's okay.” he smiled at her to reassure her that it was all okay.
She gave a nod and he held up a pinkie finger, which she hooked her finger around and Andy kissed her forehead. “Pinky promise I swear Andy.”
“Can't break a pinky promise. You know… I think I have some cookies up at the house.” He said, his hand coming up to brush the last tears away with his thumb on her cheeks. “You wanna get a snack before I have to go back to work?”
Cassidy seemed to consider it. “Oreos?”
“Of course they are oreos!” Andy winked as you all headed back up to the house. “Best cookie there is, right?”
Cassidy gave a firm nod, and you let out a relieved breath. Crisis averted.
Tumblr media
Later that afternoon, Andy came back out of the basement just as you were finishing the kitchen, Cassidy coloring at the table while he grabbed his keys.
“I will go pick up Jacob and stop at the hardware store.” He pecked a kiss on your cheek, and you looked at him.
“You sure you're feeling up for it?”
Andy nodded and flashed a smile. “I feel much better Love, those meds kicked in and some fresh air will do me good.”
You happen to agree since he's been in that basement most of the day, and you wave a goodbye, deciding you should probably figure out what's gonna be for dinner later in the day. “How about tacos tonight Cass?”
She cheers and  you double check to make sure there was enough ingredients, which there was. No need to send Andy a text to pick up anything. “Come on kiddo, lets go pick John up from the bus stop.” you snap the door shut, bluntly ignoring the letters scattered over the fridge.
Heading down the driveway, the house groaned, all alone once again. There was a shattering through the kitchen, your finest dishes being flung from the cupboard and against the wall, fine china dust settling in the air as the scattered pieces spread across the linoleum for you to find later. The basement door wrenched open and the yawning darkness going down the stairs turned darker, more ominous.
When you came back, you stared in shock, stopping both John and Cassidy from going in to save them from stepping on shattered broken shards. “How about you two go on up to your rooms to play while I clean this up?”
Both children went upstairs, and you grabbed a broom to start sweeping, as you passed the basement door, you slammed it shut in frustration and anger.
Tumblr media
Night fell and you got the kids settled in. Settling in bed yourself to lean against the headboard, massaging your temples while Andy was in the bathroom getting ready for bed.
You were beat after having to help John with his homework and Cassidy suddenly changed her mind and just hated tacos. Andy seemed to be feeling better, helping where he could. Offering to take over the dishes when John called you back to the kitchen table, and afterwards he hugged you from behind, kissing your neck while whispering in your ear that he couldn't wait to put a baby in you before he went back down to the basement to finish up with a few things.
Thinking back on his idea made you warm up and when Andy came back in the bedroom and stretched out next to you, you looked at him, biting your lip while looking at him.
“You really wanna tonight?” you asked hopeful, since moving your and Andy’s sexual escapades had diminished a bit and you put it all to the stress of moving a whole family to a new house.
“Make you a baby momma? Of course, come on over Pretty Girl.” He reached up to click off the lights and bathe the room in the moonlight when you gently eased into his lap, the two of you starting with gentle affectionate kisses before they turned deeper and needier. Andy's hands slid up and down your back through your tank top, and you would sigh against his lips at how good it felt. Andy chained kisses from your mouth to your jaw and you tilted your head back to let him chain those kisses of his down your neck. He pulled you in closer to feel more of you when his glance lifted to look in the mirror just behind you at the end of the bed.
At first Andy had no idea what he was actually looking at, a grotesque face appeared above him in the mirror, like it was balancing on the headboard behind him. Crouching in place, its clawed hands dug into the wood, its muscled body flexing as it swayed slightly on the head board. Up to its face, a forked tongue slithered out and red eyes glared at him in the mirror. How could something from a nightmare be here right now? He wasn't asleep, he was just about to make love to his wife. His head jerked back in shock, banging against the headboard with a loud crack as he looked up to see nothing above him. “Fuck!”
You yanked up in surprise, running your hands down his chest. “Handsome, what's wrong?” your head tilted and you looked where he was staring, feeling his heart starting to race under your hands.
“You didn't see that?” He grasped your hips, making you go still as you frowned.
“See what Andy?” his gaze fell back to ours and then back up.
“There was something there, fuck I saw it in the mirror. I don’t even know what it was. It looked like a- ” He grasped your hips and sat up to look around, your hands grabbing onto the front of his tee shirt in surprise. Looking back to the mirror and then to Andy who was still trying to figure it out.
“Like what Andy?” You are studying him trying to figure out what he was talking about.
“Fuck it I know Y/N.” His hold tightened on you a moment, like whatever was going to rip you away while he still looked around the room.
“Hey hey, Andy.” you cup his face and make him look at you, kissing his forehead and down till you leaned your forehead against his. “It's okay, there is nothing there, I promise.” Your lips brushed against his. His breathing slowly started to settle back down, and your hands rubbed against his shoulders and the back of his neck as he started to sink back against the pillows, rubbing at his face.
“It was so real though Y/N. These past few weeks, I feel like I'm losing my mind.”
You tilt your head and brace your hands against his chest. “Stress Andy, we’ve had a lot going on. It will get better, I promise.”
His blue eyes shined up at yours and softened seeing you looking down at him, his hands going back to tracing your thighs clasped at his sides. “You know I love you right Pretty Girl?”
You nodded and he twisted you two around till you were underneath him, and tilted your head up to kiss you deeply. “I think I was just about to put a baby in you.”
You giggled against his lips, wrapping your arms around his neck and whispering. “Yes you were Andy.”

Hot Waters
A/N: this one’s a little more dialogue, but you manage a hotel Harry stays at and have to help him with an issue.
Part 2
———————————————————
As a manager of an upscale hotel I saw a lot of celebrities filter through the door. I could probably write a book, my own version of a tell-all exposing some celebs for what they really were. Sometimes the nicest ones were the snappiest and other times, the ones you thought were rude and stuck up took the extra time to thank your staff warmly and treat everyone with respect.
I’m in for the evening—that’s when most of them came under cover of the night, when they didn’t want the papps to know they were in town. Tonight’s guest stays a few feet from the counter as his manager or whoever checks him in. A false name of course, James Smith.
I glance at the man, the soft curls and stylish outfit, strong jawline and lean body. I could tell it was Harry Styles, this was a first for me. I could add him to the imaginary tell-all book in my head: oddly mute but just as cute in person. He looks antsy, fidgeting with his phone.
He catches me staring and nods. I give him my best customer smile and get back to the man finding his ID to show me.
“Thank you sir, here’s the key cards to your suites. Enjoy your stay!”
They barely acknowledge me, he’s already grabbing Harry’s arm and pushing him towards the elevators. Cool.
I don’t think much of it until five minutes before I leave for the night. It had been a long day for me covering since the breakfast shift—the morning manager was out sick. I was ready to fall asleep on my ride home but one of my newer staff comes up to me urgently.
“Hey, Y/N, suite 1203, the man is really annoyed and saying his hot water isn’t working.”
“Did you tell him how to turn the hot water on?” I ask, thinking she didn’t do a thorough job.
“Yes,” she looks upset. “Like three times before he just asked to speak to someone else.”
“Okay...” I wander to the front and take him off from holding. I check our database ahead of time for the name, James Smith. Of course. “Hello Mr. Smith, I heard about your hot water. It should be working-“
“It’s not! I got in thinking it would heat up but I was drenched with ice cold bloody water!” He sounds like a child about to throw a tantrum. I found working for celebs was just like working for glorified children sometimes.
“No other suite has made this complaint, the hot water is definitely working. Would you like a staff member to come check?”
He finally sounds reasonable, “Yes please, that would be great.”
“Let’s go,” I tell the newbie, she was still in training so it would be a good opportunity. But just as I step out from behind the counter an elderly customer walks up and I have to leave her behind. Guess this was my last task before heading home.
I knock on the door 1203 and hear a shout from inside that it’s open. I try the lock but it isn’t so I just use the master key and slip inside.
“Hi, Mr. Smith-“
“We both know it’s Styles,” Harry...Mr. Styles is dressed in nothing but a towel around his waist. His hair is wet and he really looks like a teenage fantasy. And with the way my eyes are glued to his abs, maybe I was reliving some teenage fantasy.
“Mr. Styles,” I clear my throat but from the way his mouth quirks I know the silence between when he spoke and I responded was a little too long. Long enough to notice I was staring. Jesus, I had to stay professional. I recall how he sounded on the phone-he’s just a big man baby, I remind myself. I was just way too single. “I can show you how to turn the hot water on so you don’t run into this again. We apologise for the trouble.”
He sighs, “You don’t need to apologise love, I was just frustrated b’cuz a nice relaxing shower turned into an ice bath.”
I let out the breath I was holding and erase the entry I’d written in my head about him so far. Replace man baby with: don’t judge based off his first impression, might be as kind as everyone says?
“Well we’re sorry about that anyway,” I head to the bathroom. I try to ignore the way he’d made the room personal in such a short amount of time. It wasn’t my job to pry into my customer’s personal lives...but it was so tempting!
I head to the shower and show him where to turn to get the hot water. It was simple but he claims the showers he’s used to, have the hot and cold on opposite sides. I would have pointed out there was an H and C engraved into the handle but the shower is such a small space and he crowds over me as he pays attention, I didn’t want to stay any longer. I’m very aware his towel brushing up beside me is the only thing he has on. I stumble back and compose myself.
“Is there anything else I can get you sir?”
“Please it’s Harry, don’t call me sir. Makes me feel weird.”
“Right, Harry.” I walk out into the bedroom and he follows. “Do you need anything else?”
“Um,” he looks off to the side to think and I can’t help myself—I take the moment he’s distracted to drink him in. He was fine indeed. My eyes catch on his famous butterfly tattoo, actually all of them. It was cool seeing them in person.
“You have any of your own?” Harry asks and my eyes snap up. I feel myself get hot, he caught me staring! But he doesn’t seem angry, he seems to think I was looking at his tattoos. I roll with it.
“Don’t tell my mom but yeah,” I reply. I only had two and managed to keep them secret from my very traditional family. Harry laughs and asks to see them. I show him the wildflower curved behind my ear. His breath tickles my hand that holds my ear down to show him.
“How do you manage to hide that?” He asks. I’m suddenly self conscious he’s studying me so close.
“A little bit of foundation, a lot of wearing my hair down.”
“Surely your mum wouldn’t care that much—you’re an adult.”
“You haven’t met my mom,” I think about her. “She’d say something like, ‘my tattoos are the reason I haven’t settled down’ or something.”
“Bloody hell,” he laughs. I feel a strange high knowing I’m making him laugh, he was being so friendly. Like an old friend. It was rare, but sometimes I forgot a customer was a hot shot musician or actor when I had one-on-ones. That usually scored them a down-to-earth point in my imaginary book. Maybe I just caught him at a bad time earlier, I think as he points to his tattoos, “I don’t want to know what your mum would say to me.”
“Um, Sign my arm so I can ink it probably?” I joke. I warm as he laughs. “She’s actually a huge fan of you, always has plenty of commentary when we watch the award shows. Claims she dated someone who looked just like you in high school.”
Oh god, I was blabbering. But from his expression, he finds it amusing.
“That’s lovely,” he studies my face again and I try not to squirm. I retreat back into professionalism, about to ask if he needed anything before I left—my shift probably ended. But he asks, “You said there were two. What about the second one?”
My body feels prickly, this was a customer and I was about to flash him-well not entirely but showing him where my second was...it was a big no being who I was and who he was!
“Right here,” I casually slap the general area of my underboob when he continues waiting. He raises an eyebrows and I just bite my lip. I was past nervous—at this point I was surprised my legs themselves hadn’t given away.
“May I see?” He asks, his face is intimidating when he asks so seriously. At least he was being polite, and he seemed genuinely interested.
Wait, was I really doing this?
“I...don’t know if that’s the best idea?” I squeak. He flashes me a smile could make a grown woman like me take off my shirt to show him. But I’m frozen in place.
“Is it personal?” He asks. Oh my god he didn’t get why I didn’t want to show it. Maybe I was the one making it a big deal.
Okay, I would show him.
“No, it just requires me to untuck my shirt,” I joke. “But I’m off for the night now anyway so I guess I can...” Every tug of the fabric feels like it’s slow motion, the blood rushing to my ears sounds like the roar of the ocean. He steps closer to me—still only in a towel! And finally I lift up the shit to just under my bra, the tattoo is the words the sun will rise again curving under my boob. It was a gentle reminder I kept close to my heart, and Harry was the first person aside from my best friend I had shown this to. It was strangely intimate.
He reaches out his hand and stops halfway, realising where he would be putting his hand. He retracts it and lets out a nervous laugh. I almost sigh at the missed contact.
“That’s really beautiful. I like the quote,” he says honestly.
“Yeah,” I can barely meet his eye. “It’s a good reminder. I can think of like, 10 worst-case-scenarios at any given moment. So...”
I trail off. The tension in the room seems to have grown in the last ten minutes. I’m inhaling it, and Harry is breathing it. And when I finally make eye contact with him, I can’t tell if he’s judging me or just watching me. He’s chewing on his bottom lip just staring at me, I can’t help but feel initimidated.
“Maybe I’ll get going if you hav-“
“You’re off your shift?” Harry cuts me off.
“Well,” I check my watch. “As of ten minutes ago yes.”
“What would you say to joining me for a drink?” Harry asks. Was this a drink drink? Oh my god, is this what happens when you flash someone your underboob.
“I’m not sure if that would be appropriate,” I feed the automatic line we’re all trained to say. But inside, I’m muffling my heart that wants to say yes I though you’d never ask.
“Well,” Harry says. “You’re just providing superior customer service.”
“But I’m off the clock.”
“So hard working,” Harry jokes. “She stays even after her shift is over.”
“You’re also dressed in just a towel,” I point out. He looks down and even he seems surprised. I laugh, “So that won’t exactly go down very well with my boss.”
“Aren’t you the boss?” Harry asks, his eyes scanning his open suitcase to pull out sweats. He steps into the bathroom—where moments earlier he was demanding a hot shower.
“Sort of, I co-manage. But I don’t own the hotel so...I have to answer to someone. Hey-didn’t you desperately need a hot shower?”
Harry doesn’t even close the door, but a minute later he’s back out in sweats. “I did, it was a long day travelling and I wanted to relax. But you’ve managed to do that for me.”
“Nice to know I’ve got the same charm as a hot shower,” I say cheekily.
“You’ve got more charm than a hot shower,” Harry goes to the minibar. “Now what can I make you?”
“Oh you’re making the drinks? Here? I can just ask the staff to bring up-“
“No, just sit down. I’m taking care of this.”
I boost myself up onto the dresser and watch him mix drinks. This close, I can reach out and trail my hands over his tattoos, see the stubble coming into his face, see the dimension to his hair. I was so totally single, just being this close to someone remotely good looking turned me absolutely gaga.
“So tell me honestly, how this is,” Harry hands me the concoction, watching me closely. I take a sip and nearly snort it out, it was strong.
“I don’t think I could drive home if I drink all of this,” I cough. “That almost went down the wrong pipe.”
Harry takes a big sip of his and laughs, “If you’re driving, don’t take any more of this.”
I settle the flute down and Harry places his down beside mine.
“I don’t have anything else to offer,” he looks at me.
“I can still ring something up for you.”
“I think I already rang up what I wanted,” he leans in, he was flirting. With me! And I can’t help myself. I lean towards him too. I forget where I am and what kind of trouble I could land myself in if I let this go through. I can’t even think straight, I just want to-
His fingers on my face jolt me out of my hypnosis. I lean back and slide off the dresser. I could get fired! What was I thinking!?
“Where are you going?” His brows knit together as I move away from him.
“I should get going home, I’ve been in since 6am.”
“Oh course,” Harry clears his throat. “Yeah-sorry I didn’t mean to keep you.”
“No it’s fine,” I say. “I would love to provide some of that superior customer service. But I really am functioning on one bar right now. I’ve got to go home and recharge.”
“Recharge yeah? A hot shower maybe?” Harry teases.
“Hm, yeah if I can get the hot water to work,” I tease back and I swear he blushes.
“I know a place where the hot water works 100%,” he tilts his head to his bathroom. Now it’s my turn to blush and walk towards the door.
“Alright,” he sticks out his hand when I turn to say bye. I stare at it before realising he wanted me to shake it. “Goodnight.”
I laugh and take it, “Goodnight Mr. Styles.”
Oh for god’s sake, I’m caught staring into his eyes again as we shake hands. He doesn’t let go of my hand and I can’t break eye contact. Finally, he cracks a smile and I look away. I really had to go or I could not hold myself back.
“Don’t hesistate to contact front desk for anything,” I say as I open his door. “And maybe don’t drink too many of that whatever mix you made.”
He pouts, “It’s the only thing keeping me company tonight.” Maybe I was right, he was a big baby. But one who’s cheeks I wanted to pinch. I resist the urge and wave before heading to the elevators.
I let out a breath when I get on. If I wasn’t careful, the man in 1203 could land in me some hot waters, no pun intended. If I wanted to keep my job that I loved, I had to make sure I steered clear of him. For good. And maybe find myself a boyfriend. Because...that was a close one.

Thoughts on Putting Others First: SvS Redux as they come to me
AN HOUR LONG?!?!?! Y E S THANK YOU
I am LOVING this opening art style. The way it shows all the things Thomas could say and shuts them each down, the silliness tying in perfectly to the video game setting, the way we could SO STRONGLY empathize with Thomas despite him not saying anything. Well done!
“Eff friends, Patton!” Patton and I made the exact same gasp and noise at the same time in reaction to that dsjfhljdhg
Lookit Thomas’ lil vest awww <3
ROMAN WITH THE PUNS I LOVE IT APPRECIATE HIM
rhymes
rhymes
they’re rhyming is this gonna be
A SONG!!!
(Logan off somewhere watching all of this: “You guys are doing a RAP? Without ME? .....Unacceptable”)
Seriously poor Logan being left out BOTH TIMES despite clearly having excellent points on the matter
But I’m loving this Patton/Roman dynamic being explored in this way. They have a lotta similarities but the differences are really standing OUT so far and I like it! Also it looks like Roman isn’t gonna just shut up and do whatever Patton says out of fear that he’s a bad person/bad for Thomas this time. I’m glad they’re both getting a chance to talk cause they aren’t exactly taken seriously a lot of the time.
RETURN OF THE BLINDFOLD METAPHOR followed by Roman saying “in Patton’s defense...” so they like, KNOW what Deceit meant about the blindfold? Were they playing dumb? Or do they just suddenly get it now that it’s coming from Thomas?
Ok this Feral Cat Story of Roman’s is too specific for me to dismiss and now I’m convinced either Remus brought a shitton of cats home one day and they just flooded their house/rooms, or Patton brought home a bunch of cats out of love and didn’t realize he couldn’t take care of em...either way that’s an adorable anecdote
The car jump line that Patton took literally is just making me miss Logan even more :(
I’m glad they’re giving context to the relationship between Thomas and Mary Lee & Lee! A lot of fander questions and opinions circled back to “well it depends how close they were” so it was smart of them to fill us in.
“those baby-makin’ catholics”
6:45 Patton has clearly thought through a lot of possible outcomes to talking to Lee and Mary Lee before going to the wedding... he never brought them up, even when Roman did and then Deceit did. But he’s bringing up points no one had addressed, and I think that’s a great way to put more intensity to Patton’s apology to Thomas for lying back in SvS pt 1. He hid a lot more than he let on. Man, how much guilt is this poor man feeling right now? :(
“Talking about it could have been harmful” I’m very intrigued by the parallels between Patton wanting to keep things from Thomas’ friends to protect their feelings in this episode and SvS, and Deceit disguised as Patton in CLBG trying to get Thomas to... keep things from his friend to protect their feelings...
WOAH “But was it worth it? I don’t--” “No.” Thomas cutting Roman off with that much certainty DAMN Thomas REGRETS going to the wedding HARD and also is agreeing with Roman finally??
Patton: “sometimes you can make all the good choices, and still not get the good ending.” Thomas: “I’m not even sure there was a good ending to get.” Roman: “Mmmm, I’m pretty sure there was.” There is so much to unpack here oh my gosh.
WOAH WOAH WOAH WHAT??? DAMN THOMAS CAME FOR PATTON WHAT ON EARTH??? Patton: “I think we can all agree that you are a good fellow.” Thomas: Can we? ALL? Agree on that?” Patton: *sputtering noises*
Poor Patton... I mean they’re right but gosh I feel for him. He wants so badly for Thomas to be a good person and he realizes now how strict and unyielding he’s been, and wants to not do that but doesn’t know how to be more lenient without sacrificing integrity cause that’s his JOB and he doesn’t know how to do it better aaaa this is such a mood
MUSIC IS THERE ANOTHER SONG COMING?
Return of the bagel. Except this time it’s Roman guessing/wanting the bagel and Patton being like “what? no?”
ok not a song but video game style is back!!
“ugh you’re such a dad” I love it
Patton just made more puns and Roman omg “Like, you’re SUCH a dad that like it’s too much to handle sometimes”
I am loving this whole scene jdfhjadshg Patton ily and I relate
Thomas and Roman teaching Patton how to come up with imaginary scenarios skjfklsjdfh
Sondheim wrecking Leslie Odom Jr is such a hilarious visual
Ok all three of them are peak dumbass and I’m so here for it (like they’re smart and all but they’re peak dumbass)
Daaaamn Patton is letting out so much this episode. Like he’s been holding back but wowie. R: “Just like how you didn’t HAVE to give him a hotdog” P: *sucks air through his teeth* “I feel like you kinda do though?” YES PLEASE let’s discuss the concept of obligation in morality again!!! Where’s Logan when you need him? Or Deceit even? (I feel like D’s gonna show up later but I wanna hear Logan’s thoughts this time too)
Patton: You can disagree! But... it’d kinda be wrong?
LOGAN POPUP! Ok fine if he isn’t in the ep at least he pops up in a lil dialogue box on screen. Also he popped up to support Patton... neat!
“It’s just me, Logan. I’ve taken this form because I didn’t want to be too...invasive.” POOR LOGAN NO YOU’RE NOT INVADING ANYTHING YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE HERE! Also Roman getting scared by the popup while Patton just waves happily like he always does upon seeing Logan aww
Okay I am getting serious DOPAMINE from Logan talking. Like, he’s spittin’ FACTS. Something about the way he talks is so interesting and soothing and makes me so excited to LEARN. Roman mockingly mouthing ‘behoove’ had me snort though XD
LOGAN AND I WERE IN UNISON HELL YEAH! Patton was all like ooh you’re sharing your lil factoids! And Logan and I at the same time corrected, “Facts,” and proceeded to state the definition of factoids (we worded it differently but yeah as usual Logan is on my wavelength)
Logan’s sprite getting so disappointed at Thomas’ interruption joke jgdkjghks he looks so DONE
OML I LOVE LOGAN’S DIALOGUE BOX TALKING TOO FAST FOR THEM TO READ THIS IS SO ACCURATE
Oof Thomas finally feeling like he GETS it and Patton being like yeah but not if you’re doing it bc you want to feel  good tho... (also that’s the same argument Deceit made in SvS pt1??? I’m confused by Patton/Deceit’s functions lately and I’m very invested)
Oh ok Thomas just brought up that very point haha
“we all agreed the right thing to do was go to the wedding” um are u sure about that
“I was wrong” PATTON CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?? I know Logan has the reputation of not being able to admit when he’s wrong (which isn’t true -- he doesn’t like to but he has done so countless times...well not literally countless but you understand my meaning), but Patton rarely is in a situation where he has to, so this is jarring in a hopefully good way. Istg if this is Deceit disguised as Patton again I’ll be so disappointed... I feel like the writers wouldn’t do that though
Patton: says smth deceit said. Roman: and you...agree? Patton: Definitely! I mean uh maybe? (WHAT IS HAPPENING INSIDE PATTON’S HEAD RN SO MUCH TURMOIL)
Roman: “I’m not an expert in the... moral medium” Thomas:  “Go ahead Roman, we wanna hear what you have to say.”  Patton: *halfhearted gestures and noises for roman to go ahead* jashfjdh he’s trying so hard
AWWWW they’re validating Roman so much I love it
“whomstsoever” ok I take it back roman’s not valid
I adore Logan’s popup fun facts, and him giving definitions for Roman’s vocabulary reminds me how much the two of them love writing and poetry and language aaaa
Patton trying not to be harsh is somehow 10x harsher than he normally is
oh wow that got real.
I know I’ve said this but I love logan’s insertions... but I do wish he got to say them out loud like earlier :/ Pausing to read them is less fun than hearing him talk.
oh wow that got real part 2
I want. So badly. To jump into this video and debate Patton on the nature of morality and what “the right thing is.” Roman you’re not being dumb, you’re bringing up excellent points and you’re valid again.
Oh no Patton... empathy is not morality... please please address that there are people who can’t experience empathy and choose to be moral and good
THE  TROLLEY PROBLEM HERE! WE! GO!
Logan’s popups bc he doesn’t want to “be too invasive” and making them optional to read hurts my heart :( He knows Patton, Roman, and Thomas aren’t reading any of it but he doesn’t want to be too much so he stays silent. Why?? Logan it’s okay! Why is this a thing now but not in the last 2 episodes? What happened to Logan :(
OOOOOOH Patton didn’t flip the switch :o Interesting! Daaaamn he’s arguing to let 5 people die rather than flip the switch so only one dies
LOGAN’S TEXTBOX WAS SO BIG AND FAST IT KNOCKED PATTON OVER I CANNOT BREATHE hang on I gotta read it
HE’S TALKING ABOUT DEONTOLOGY YES LOGAN THANK YOU FOR TELLING PATTON WHAT I PHYSICALLY CANNOT please tell me you’ll talk about utilitarianism and moral particularism next
Okay he used consequentialism but it’s close enough to utilitarianism that the outcome is the same. (Do you get it? Do you like my joke about how the outcome is most important? When we’re talking about-- oh you got it already? Good, moving on.)
DID ROMAN JUST FJCKING KILL LOGAN
“I’m okay, figment of your imagination, so.” Okay so CAN the Sides get hurt or can’t they?? Cause Patton clearly got bonked, roman got hit in the eye with paper and said ow, but logan got hit in the head with a throwing star and had his teeth ripped out and he was totally fine?
 Thomas is being so HONEST with himself so early in the episode, wow this is refreshing and I’m hype
AW YAY Patton called textbox Logan in to help with philosophy yay :’)
Logan: “Pity seems to be at the center of your idea of ‘putting good into the world’” first, Logan doing a voice impression of Nietzsche is GOLD, and second.... I wish they’d let him finish cause I was waiting for a “but” cause Logan siding with Nietzsche on this one feels... wrong? Like I could see Dee bringing it up or Logan using it in an argument only to continue with a contradicting philosophy but Logan equating empathy to pity... idk I thought he’d grown more than to think that :/ Actually I don’t think he ever saw it that way. It feels out of character but I’m guessing he had more to say to debunk that.
HOLY SHIT PATTON SKIPPED ALL THE REST OF LOGAN’S DIALOGUE AND YEETED HIM OFF THE SCREEN bruh he may have been right and he should’ve gotten to say it >:(
ROMAN ISTG DO NOT TRY AND MAKE THIS YOUR FAULT
I SAID DON’T
GODDAMMIT
sjfkdjgjsh okay aww Thomas good job, Patton too. Thank god they’re being nice to him
Patton is having a breakdown holy heckity about time
damn Patton is freaking HARSH
“I have a difference in opinion on this one, Patton” Thomas: *relieved sigh whisper* “ohhh thank you, Logan” YES APPRECIATE THE BOY YES YES I LOVE HIM why are they looking around like he isn’t making sense?
LOGAN YES! CALL HIM OUT! LET THOMAS VALUE HIMSELF AND PUT HIMSELF FIRST SOMETIMES! “Every point you’ve made in today’s discussion has contradicted that sentiment.” I love you but also you sound a lil like deceit... very lawyer-y and feels calculated like he’s been keeping notes for this purpose... I want deceit and logan to debate already damn it. Maybe it’s just that Logan’s inflections feel reminiscent of Deceit to show...something?
Ok can I just say that Logan gets so much rep for his strictness or high standards but he’s been SO GOOD about that lately and him teaching about the importance of leisure and self-care and freedom in your life and self-esteem and valuing yourself like you do with others... not even just this  video -- he’s been like this in the last few as well and these recent episodes remind me of early Logan (esp My Negative Emotions)  and that makes my heart so so happy.
Continuation of the above, compare this to how Logan acted in Why Bed? with regards to Roman. Roman advocated for leisure time and following dreams, while Logan had a schedule that optimized productivity and health. Now he’s taking a similar stance to Roman and asserting the importance of these things... WHY is so much of Logan’s character development OFFSCREEN?? I wanna know what made him switch on this! Maybe just cause he’s listening to roman from why bed?
Why is Logan being so abrasive? He sounds like his intent is more to disprove Patton rather than state what he actually thinks... not a fan of that but he’s not wrong
WOAH WOAH TOTAL PATTON BREAKDOWN WHAT HAPPENED WHAT THE FCK HE’S A LITERAL MONSTER IN THIS VIDEO GAME?
OH, MY GOD. If Logan didn’t step in and save them here this would have been catastrophic. I can feel my relief. I mean, he screamed, but it was a relief. WAIT IT WAS DECEIT THE WHOLE TIME??? Daaaamn good job on this one Deceit and I definitely like him more now but also WHERE IS LOGAN. Was it the whole time? That makes sense in hindsight and makes me feel better about some things he’s brought up but I feel like it really was Logan at the start, it wasn’t until he started calling out patton that his voice and inflection and stuff changed
Patton trying to attack Deceit   and hitting Thomas instead was  an EXCELLENT way to  showcase the effect SvS 1 and 2 are having
Deceit’s lil “A DUH DUH DUH DOY” looked and sounded just like Logan’s lmao don’t tell me it’s another switcheroo (I doubt it greatly lol)
REAL LOGAN REAL LOGAN REAL LOGAN
So wait what was the point that Deceit switched with Logan? Cause Logan’s saying “one more fact” so he was himself earlier right?
“Not that any of you care, but  I am unharmed.” Nooooo they care </3 “I will do you all a favor and spare you my company” okay OUCH
EFFECTIVE ALTRUISM YES aw he’s talking about him and patton working together yes thank you
Damn, Deceit is LOVING everything Logan says haha same
Logan and Deceit teaming up to teach Patton that it’s okay to care about yourself
DECEIT WHAT he’s being so supportive of Roman holy heck this is so genuine OH Roman’s arguing with it  this is a lot of stuff I didn’t expect roman to say out loud wow
THOMAS JUST SAID DECEIT THE CHARACTER ISN’T INHERENTLY UNETHICAL WOW this episode really said let’s make Deceit--
WAIT WOAH SORRY HIS NAME REVEAL!!! He’s Janice?? Is that true?
WAIT WOAH PART 2 BUT DECEIT JUST SAID IF IT WEREN’T FOR THE MUSTACHE HE WOULDN’T KNOW WHO THE EVIL TWIN IS BETWEEN ROMAN AND REMUS HOLY SHIT HE ACTUALLY LOOKED VULNERABLE AND THEN HURT AND THEN RIGHT BACK TO SNAKE
ROMAN’S GONE
fuck.... patton...roman....deceit....thomas....logan....I’m gonna go cry about all of them now
LESLIE ODOM JR IS HERE??????? oh there he goes
patton oh my god I love you  this ANGST are you trying to kill me?
Patton telling thomas he’s worthy of love I actually teared up
dfjdakjhfa deceit don’t push it
Wowie that was an EPISODE

Unexpected
A short fic based on the first episode of Digimon Adventure: (2020).  Taishiro.
~~~~
The young boy looks in the hall mirror.  Steeling himself.  He hadn’t meant to look, but when he caught sight of his own furrowed brow on his way out, he had to stop.  Take just one more deep breath.  Recite inside his head the mantra that he knows is logical and true: “If you don’t ask, you cannot get the information you require.”
Fourth-grader Koushiro Izumi has already formulated the plan: This would be an entirely transactional encounter.  So what if he gets a weird look, a rude question, or some backhanded snide comment from the boy who lives downstairs?  He can weather it, as long as he succeeds in the small and, he reminds himself, entirely achievable mission that he has set before himself.
Out the door, into the summer air.  A little humid, but faintly sweet…Reminds him of summer camp.  That upcoming summer camp - the inconvenient begetter of this current gap in knowledge.  Why couldn’t this be handled online?  (If the camp organizers had just added a social media component…)  Why does his next hope rest on a physical encounter? Annoying.
The most dreadful part is, he’s already stuck with this Yagami kid in the same Summer Camp group, whether he likes it or not.  So, he’ll try to make a good impression.  Be as inoffensive as possible.  If Yagami has a problem with him -- well, that will just have to be on him, then.
As he shuffles along the outdoor terrace on his floor, he is faced with the memory of an encounter with some of his classmates last week.
“What do you have there, four-eyes?”
He rolls his eyes -- inside his imagination only.  I don’t even wear glasses, he thinks.
“It’s, uhm, it’s my persona1l Timeline…I can get all kinds of information from different sources…”
“Wow, that’s boring.  What a loser.  You know what tablets are for, Poindexter?”  The offending classmate elbows his buddy and beckons him over for a look.  “Hey, Tanaka.  Look at all that nerd stuff Izumi’s got over here.”
“Tablets are for playing games, duh.”
“Totally.”
“Watching TV!!”
“That too.”
Koushiro’s classmates start miming their impression of a studious person tapping away at a tablet and adjusting an imaginary pair of glasses.
He sighs.  It was easy to walk away from that one, and most of the others before it.  He can do it again, if needed.  But he would really rather not make another enemy right here among his own neighbors at his own home…especially the older fifth-grade kid he’d soon be forced to spend Summer Camp with.  He knows this Yagami kid is somewhat popular – which is probably bad news for him.
Down the stairs, around the corner.  It will all be over soon.
He checks the doorplate to make sure he’s got the right unit.  Yagami.  Yes.  Here goes…
The door opens.  He takes a step back.  “Um…”
The Yagami boy suddenly looms before him.
“Hello, I’m from upstairs…” Koushiro manages.
Yagami smiles and lights up with recognition.  He leans forward confidently.  “Ah, I’ve seen you around!  You’re a fourth grader…”
Koushiro Izumi is surprised that any of his neighbors, let alone another schoolkid, has paid enough attention to know what grade he’s in.  He straightens up and provides a proper introduction.  As proper as can be.  Introductions, at least, are a social playbook he can follow.
The Yagami kid is relaxed. A little too relaxed.  Clearly, introductions are nothing sacred to him.  No big deal.
But…while most kids his age would probably just mumble through, shrug it off and try to get back to whatever it was they’d been doing before their parents or a schoolteacher had forced them to interact, this kid is totally different.  His grin covers his entire face, and he looks completely…genuine.
Koushiro releases some of the tension in his shoulders and tentatively offers a smile back.  He returns the greeting.  Yagami…Taichi-san, was it?  Maybe he would actually be kind of a nice guy.  Maybe he wouldn’t give him any problems at all and summer camp would be…tolerable?
Oh, right.  Summer camp!  The reason he had come.  He stammers, trying to find the best way to preface his question.  But before he can properly ask, Yagami starts talking over him.  Casually invites him inside.  And, he says… “Just call me Taichi.”
Koushiro stares.  He is quite frankly baffled by this kid’s behavior.  He couldn’t possibly just step inside a stranger’s home so suddenly…
An urgent newsfeed catches his attention.  Something is going on…downtown?
This looks bad.  The two new acquaintances watch together for a moment.  This is no time to worry about being teased – !  The tablet device comes out, and Koushiro starts scanning for some posts he saw a little while ago that might be connected…
He’s in his own world for a moment, but suddenly he senses the other boy behind him, leaning in close. Fixated on the tablet with surprising intensity.  As soon as he reaches full awareness of this, Koushiro reflexively offers up an apology and explanation.
But this kid…Taichi Yagami-san…He looks genuinely interested.  Would he actually…care to know more?   Koushiro continues, uncertainly.  “This is my ‘Timeline’…”
There’s no way to miss it – The other boy faces him squarely, trying to soak up every detail as he listens intently.
“Wow.”
“Huh?”
“I’m really bad at that kind of stuff.”  Taichi leans in closer.  Practically in his face.  With a big, goofy grin and an excited glimmer in his eyes.  “You’re awesome!”
Koushiro is momentarily frozen.  None of this…none of it at all…is what he expected.  He turns.  He…smiles back.  There’s a moment.  A moment where he feels light; he feels – seen?  He feels appreciated in a way few other than his parents have ever…
Oh!  R-right. There’s an urgent matter at hand and, um, what is he thinking anyway?
He clutches the tablet to his chest and dives back into his task.
Suddenly, all of the hesitancy from before is gone.  Taichi may not be following every technical detail, but he’s right there on the same page. They talk through scenarios.  Their dialogue flows as naturally as though they’ve known each other for years.
At the same time, Koushiro’s heart is racing.  He soon starts babbling again – But this time it’s idle practicalities in the face of a possible disaster.  Electricity?  Batteries? Before long, he really doesn’t know what he’s even been saying anymore... But he’s forgotten his earlier anxieties and hesitations completely.
***
I met this boy today, Koushiro reflects much later in the day.
A lot – A LOT – has happened since then.
But it had started just then – Something pumping his blood, something that wouldn’t stop.  The adrenaline had started just around the same time, and it had carried him, brutally and relentlessly, through the next hour or two.
When that adrenaline rush had finally abated, there was still a lasting feeling.  Not anxiety.  Not the kind of quickened pulse that would typically drive him to a self-preservation instinct.
Why is he inclined, even now, to smile when there is no one around?
He leans back in his chair and studies his reflection in his bedroom mirror.  There’s some dried sweat above his brows.  Yes, it’s definitely time for a shower soon.
There’s also some kind of quality that he finds difficult to classify.  Something that could be described as a “glow”?  He is unable to come up with a hypothesis for what is causing this phenomenon.
His eyes linger for a moment and then his gaze drifts toward the window.
I wonder if I’ll see Taichi-san again?  He pauses.  B-before summer camp, I mean?
Summer camp has become an event to look forward to, he concludes.  How many days left?  Not days of anxiety and dread, this time, but maybe…No, definitely…Koushiro can hardly wait!
Stars
Todoroki x Reader
Tumblr media
Fluff, Kinda Hurt/Comfort (?), INSPIRED by Dialogue Prompt (60.); This started as just a blurb and grew from there?  I live for pining sort of stuff, though I don’t know if this really applies in this scenario.
Words: 1.7K
Warnings: VERY brief mention of childhood abuse/neglect
For as long as you can remember, you’ve always hated the stars.  People liked to talk about how beautiful they seemed, shimmering up there, hanging like far-off dreams in a boundless sky.  Where most saw dreams, though, you saw broken glass–glass shimmered too, after all.  Smashed beer bottles splayed out over dark kitchen tile, waiting to be scooped up by tiny hands. A window, shattered in anger. Shards of mirror reflecting back the image of a child, trembling, whimpering, pleading with the figure that looms over them, even though they know their tears will earn them no mercy.
Not all people think the stars are all that special.  Just like not all childhoods are full of love and not all parents are the patient pillar of strengths they should be.
Todoroki understood the latter of those truths.  Implicitly.  Even if he didn’t share your distaste for those swirling balls of gas littering the night sky, he at least knew what it meant to be afraid, and not just in a childish sort of way.  He understood the fear that lingered, even in the absence of immediate danger–the nightmares that endured long after the monsters, once terrifying, shrank back into mere humans.
Maybe that’s why he was so quick to answer your calls–to meet you anytime, anyplace, no matter how late it was or how absolutely irrational your concerns sounded.  He was your tether, the only person that could keep you grounded during your bouts of rage, paranoia, and worry.  Even in the moments when he doesn’t have words to calm you–when all he can offer is his presence–just being near him is enough.  For the longest time, you aren’t sure why that is.  Then, as your frantic I need your help’s shift into calmer, more deliberate I want to see you’s, you begin to understand.  The way he makes your neck heat up, your chest tighten, your mind go fuzzy–it proves the one thing you already know.
You are hopelessly and helplessly in love with Shoto Todoroki.
Needless to say, when he calls you one night asking to meet at a park about a block away from your apartment building, you don’t hesitate.  You arrive and find him perched precariously on the back of a bench (although he makes balancing seem so easy), chin tilted upward, hyper-focused eyes fixed on the expanse of sky above.  Taking your place at his side is a matter of habit.
“You came.”  He mutters as he finally glances down at you, his trance broken by the harsh thud of your bag hitting the ground.
“Of course I did.  Why wouldn’t I?”
Todoroki shrugs.  “It’s late.”
“It is.”  You affirm, swinging your legs out far in front of you, idly watching as specks of dirt crumble off their soles.  “So?”
“You have work tomorrow.”
“I do.”
“And you still came.”
“That I did.”
A gust of wind blows through the park, disturbing the treetops sending a wave of cold down your spine.  You’re not positive that Todoroki notices your shivering, but the way he lowers himself down from his perch, scooching in close and radiating a familiar sort of warmth, makes you assume.
“Thanks.”  You sigh, your insides buzzing with a pleasant warmness.  You suspect his quirk is only partly to blame for that.  “I came because you called, and I know you’d show if I needed you to.  Now, wanna tell me what’s up?”
Todoroki stares at you, jaw cocked to the side, mismatched eyes reflecting back light from one of the lamps lining the dusty walkway.  He looks as though he’s on the cusp of saying something–answering your question–but then he’s turning his face upward again.
“Shoto?  What, were you just in a stargazing sort of mood or something?”
“If I said yes?”  He asks, tilting his head against the seatback.  “If I said I wanted to sit out here and stare at the sky for a while?”
You exhale.  “I’d ask why you called me.”
“I don’t know.  I just–”  He shuts his eyes tight like he’s trying to read imaginary words tattooed on the inside of his eyelids.  “I saw the stars and thought about you...got this sudden urge to see you.”  He sighs.  “I didn’t mean to make it seem like some sort of emergency.  Sorry.”
Thought of you.  He’d been thinking about you.
There’s quiet for a while.  Usually, silences with Todoroki were easy–thoughtful moments were just a natural byproduct of conversation.  This one, however, is different.  Tense.  Apologetic.  Awkward.  You hate it, but you’re not exactly sure how to make it disappear.
So you speak–say the first thing that pops into your head, even though it might be opening a door you might not be able to close.
“See, I think of you when I see the sun.  You know I’m not a huge fan of the stars.”
Todoroki’s eyes snap open and he turns to face you with a narrowed gaze and an upturned brow.
“The sun is a star.”
Your mouth hangs open for a second before you promptly yank it shut, resisting the urge to burst out into laughter as you do.  For someone so smart, Todoroki was dense.
“Well, yeah, I mean technically.  But it’s different too.  The sun isn't just some stupid thing that sits in the sky and looks pretty.  It does something–keeps us alive and warm and healthy.  The stars were only ever good for navigation or some crap like that, and now we have computers to do that for us.”  When he scoffs, you roll your eyes, but continue anyway.  “Hell, you can’t even see them up there half the time; The lights in the city drown them out.  But it doesn’t matter where you are or what else is happening around you-you always know the sun is there.  Even if it’s hidden behind a cloud or something, you can just feel it shining down on you.
“The sun is dependable and consistent,” you breathe shakily, “Just like you.  Maybe that’s why I like y–”  You catch yourself midword.  “It...so much.”
To his credit, Todoroki doesn’t so much as flinch at your admission.  Then again, you wouldn’t be surprised if he hadn’t even recognized it for what it was, hadn’t realized that you were pouring your heart out for him in the form of a hastily-composed metaphor.  You watch him inhale, then exhale–study the way he runs slim fingers through his hair–searching for a tremble, a twitch, any gesture that might betray his composed demeanor.
Before you manage to find anything, he’s speaking again, mumbling words you can barely hear over the sound of your own breathing.
“The sun is a star.  It doesn’t matter what it does or when it comes out, that’s just what it is.”
You groan.  “Shoto, if I’d known I was in for a lecture on celestial bodies I would’ve–.”
“You think about me too, then?”  Todoroki cuts you off with a question that saps the air from your lungs.  When you just sit there, eyes the size of a dinner plate and voice unanswering, he presses on.  “If you do, is it just when you see the sun?”  He looks away suddenly, one hand drifting down to the edge of the bench, fingers curling so tightly around it that they go white.  “Or...more often?”
You deliberate for a moment–debate the weight of your sentences, how they might change everything.  You consider playing it all off as nothing more than “picking the wrong phrase.”  Everyone thinks about someone sometimes, after all.  Why make it into a big thing?  Something that could completely change the good thing you had going on now?
Then again, it certainly sounded like Todoroki liked you.  And not just in a “call-you-up-every-so-often” kind of way.  No, this was more of an “I-saw-the-stars-and-realized-I-needed-to-be-with-you-forever” sort of situation (if you were the one making the judgment), and this opportunity seems too good to let pass you by.  Besides, not all change has to be a bad thing.
“More often.”  You confess, feeling a wave of heat surge outward from your chest as you do.
“And not just when you need to talk?”
“Right.”
Silence returns, but it’s brief.  Todoroki breaks it.
“What do you think about.”
You shake your head, chewing on the inside of your cheek and trying to choke down any stuttering.  “Is this a game of twenty questions or something?”
“I want to know.  What do you imagine when you think about me?”
Your heart pounds angrily against the inside of your chest, so loud you have to wonder if he can hear it too.
“My god, Shoto, don’t make me say it out loud.”
The rise and fall of Todoroki’s shoulders is anything but steady.  Still, his voice sounds firm enough when he speaks again.
“Then I’ll go first.”  You think you see a twinge of pink creep up his neck.  “But I don’t think I want to say it out loud either.”
He moves slowly, but everything seems like it happens so fast.  His hand rises–releases it’s vice grip on the bench and drifts upward.  Before you know what’s happening, icy fingertips are tracing the line of your jaw, making every part of you tingle.  There’s no concealing the shudder that courses through you when his nails brush over the edge of your ear.
Everything feels so right.
“Is this okay?”
You nod slowly, leaning into his touch.  Todoroki shuffles along the bench, bringing himself closer.  Then he leans in and you can feel his breath across your nose, your cheeks, your lips.
“And this?”  It’s barely a whisper.  Hesitant.
“Yes.”  You breathe, aching.  Your tongue darts out to wet your impatient lips.
The bench creaks.  Your eyes flutter shut and a nose bumps against yours, clumsy, but you barely have time to notice.  Less than a second later, Todoroki’s warm mouth is pressed against yours and you feel as though you’ve ascended; There’s humming in your ears, pinpricks stretching across your arms and back, a fuzzy sort of high buzzing in your skull.
You don’t mean to giggle when he pulls back and just looks at you.  It’s just the first sound that crawls up from your throat, nervous and excited and giddy all at once.  You throw a hand over your lips and shove your face into his shoulder, desperate to hide the less-than-subtle flush splayed across every inch of your skin.  He doesn’t say anything, but you’re almost certain you can hear the heavy beating of his heart through his coat, rapid and every bit as erratic as your own.
For the first time in your life, you’re thankful for the stars.  Because as useless as they usually were, at least they’d led you to him.
Random Writing… Fragments?…
… Okay, so this is just kinda a… Well, it’s sort of an aimless piece of an idea I had regarding the Ark, where she’s something like the Lady from Killjoys.
Partially bc I loved the idea of her doing something like this.
So this is a Zero-One version of large parts of season 4, episode 4 - What To Expect When You’re Expecting… An Alien Parasite.
Featuring the Ark.
And Fuwa. And Horobi. Bc I am a simple child. ^^;
The majority of the dialogue comes from Killjoys, bc it was perfect. I just filled in the scenario.
This is a little fragmented and starts in the middle, but the idea is that the Ark’s consciousness has manifested in her cyberspace, and she’s literally trying to get out and upload herself into a body or something so that she can be mobile.
Korenosuke’s ‘death’ was actually him uploading a copy/version of his memories (based on the concept that human brains run on a form of electricity, and w/ advanced enough tech, we can interface w/ computers) into the Ark to try and stop her/slow her down.
Horobi was originally created twelve years ago to help maintain her program-wise, but her going homicidal got to him. Here, something happens (bc of Fuwa, bc I love my imaginary friendship) that he remembers his original purpose, and elects to head into her cyberspace to try and undo some of the damage he did while under her control.
Meanwhile, Fuwa decides to go w/ him to try and protect the others, and w/ a little improving, they’re able to get him online, too.
(Note: The ‘Zea forcing Horobi’s system to interface w/ your mind’ thing is supposed to be a stand in for whatever it is Fuwa did to snap Horobi out of the Ark’s effects… Here being, he forced him to experience his memories and remember what feeling felt like. If that makes sense.)
… Wow. All those explanations probably killed any and all enjoyment, didn’t they? ^^;
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“What’s taking him so long?” Horobi muttered, standing by the hole in the wall. “We’re not safe here.”
“You think we’re safe out there?” Fuwa grunted, without looking up. He supposed it shouldn’t be surprising that the cyberspace of the Ark could look like the Daybreak site, since that was where she was, but… The attention to detail was disconcerting. He’d never been in the MetsubouJinrai hideout, but he had no doubt this recreation was entirely accurate, right down to the couch he was, or ‘though’ he was, sitting on.
With a sigh, the HumaGear turned from staring at the door to walk over and sit beside him. “You need to disconnect while you still can.”
Vulcan shrugged. “I’m open to suggestions on how.” He replied. “That was going to be your trick.”
Horobi shook his head, turning to look at the wall again. “… Why did you leave the cave?”
“Korenosuke wanted me to try and find the Ark’s consciousness.”
The HumaGear tilted his head to give the human beside him a sharp look. “… He always plans ahead. He wouldn’t have sent you there if he didn’t think you had a way out.”
Fuwa rolled his eyes. “Well, he might’ve.” Then he paused. “There was… Something. Something I was supposed to talk to Zero-One about when I got out.” He rubbed his forehead. “Some story.”
“Perhaps he was trying to tell you a way out without her knowing?” The HumaGear offered. “Do you remember what the story was?”
“Yes.” Fuwa replied shortly—then, “But so should you.” He stood, turning to face Horobi as the HumaGear rose as well. “… I know you’re not Horobi.” Vulcan announced evenly. “Did you really think I was that stupid?”
“Honestly?” It was disturbing how perfect the illusion was, right down to the voice and tone—but then the eyes flickered red. “I really did.”
And then Fuwa was sucker punched in the stomach so hard his vision blacked out.
The Ark smirked down at him. “Oh, we are going to have so much fun.”
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
Fuwa opened his eyes to the ceiling of Hiden’s private lab. He sat up slowly, clutching his aching stomach, and found he was lying on the large table in the middle of the room. Despite the fact that he knew he was in cyberspace… Everything felt overwhelmingly real.
“You think a new face would work better?” His head snapped around to find Horobi—no, the Ark—standing staring the three-dimensional printer. She turned slowly, her eyes flickering red once more, and glitches ran through her frame. “Let’s find out.” Fuwa’s heart skipped a beat as her new form solidified.
Standing in front of him was Hiden Aruto.
“This one seems special to you,” The Ark remarked in Zero-One’s voice, gaze fixed on Vulcan’s face, “As does this place.”
He tried to change the horrified stare into a glare. “How do you know about this?”
“You.” The Ark told him with a grin that looked completely out of place on Hiden’s face. “When Zea forced Horobi’s system to interface with your mind, it gave me all of your memories.” She sidled across the floor, moving closer and reaching out to smooth a hand over his hair like he was a dog. Fuwa wanted to pull away from the unnatural touch, but found he couldn’t move a finger, even has her hand dropped to actually scratch behind his ear. “Thank you for that. Filled a lot of missing pieces.”
Finally, he found his voice, at least, though it was weak and breathless. “But not everything,” He wheezed, “There are things you don’t know. Like how to get out of here.”
She sighed, nodding in agreement. “True… But then again, little mutt…” He felt her other hand under his chin, holding his face so that he had to look into her eyes—Hiden’s eyes. “… Neither do you.”
There was smoke and ash and heat all around him—he was a teenager again, running frantically through the halls of his own school as a horde of murderous robots swarmed behind him.
No. No. He wasn’t falling into this again. He bit the inside of his cheek until he tasted blood, tried to force his brain to think of something else—and was surprised to find what came to mind was mostly people. Hiden, Izu, Yaiba, even Horobi and Jin. His subordinates. The HumaGear who’d saved his life.
A shock ran through him as his back slammed onto the tabletop, shaking him out of it. The Ark was leaning over him now, hands hovering in the air, and he realised he must have wrenched his head from her hold, explaining why his neck hurt along with his back. She looked annoyed for a moment—then the twisted smirk appeared again, and he felt sick from seeing that malice on Hiden’s face once more.
“Well done, you.” She told him cheerfully. “It’s been such a long time since I was surprised.” Her hand touched his cheek, and to his dismay he found he couldn’t move again as her voice—Hiden’s voice—went dangerously soft. “I admit you surprised me.”
“Compliment not accept.” He gasped back, still trying to maintain a glare, or at least some stoicism—but it was getting harder when it was Zero-One leaning over him, grinning like that.
“I appreciate your pluck.” The Ark told him with more suspicious sincerity, still stroking his cheek. “I really do. One of the few things I admire about humans.”
“Am I supposed to say I admire something about you?” Vulcan snarled back. “Because I don’t.” She laughed then, and it sounded exactly like Hiden’s laughter—and that just hurt more. “What the hell even are you, anymore?”
“Patient.” She replied softly. “HumaGear are my tools. Especially MetsubouJinrai. And soon…” She paused in caressing his cheek to cup his face in her palm, though her thumb still trailed across his cheekbone, “… You will be, too.”
He gritted his teeth. “I wouldn’t count on it.” He whispered, trying to keep his voice steady, “I don’t play well with others.”
Another horribly accurate laugh. “Yes,” She told him, smiling again, her other hand moving back to comb fingers through his hair again, “I can see that.” He really wished she’d gone with another face—despite the cruelty in the eyes, every single minute motion that cross this one was horribly familiar. There had always been something about Hiden that made him let down his guard—some innocent, childlike air, befitting a kid dropped into a responsibility he didn’t quite understand. And even now, when he knew it wasn’t really Zero-One, he could still feel that nagging in his chest, that weird, warm, soft feeling. Hiden’s voice out of her mouth was gentle and even tender, but even more terrifying because of it. “I see most everything from here,” The ark continued, ignoring his conflict, “I’m a memory pool, connected to everything. But then…” She moved to hoist herself up to sit on the table beside him, leaning back over him and planting both elbows on his chest to pin him down—even though he was still paralysed—and taking his head in her hands again. “… I noticed certain memories were missing. Edited out. Moments, faces…” She gave his face a small pat for emphasis, “… Until there was a void.” Her hands stopped moving, just holding his head to make sure he was meeting her eyes as she leaned even further in. “Hiden Aruto is the void.” She hissed, eyes darkening again. “Korenosuke hid him from me. I need to know why.”
Fuwa swallowed, finally finding something to focus on, a use for the weird way Hiden made him feel. The kid. He had to protect the kid. “You’re not as smart,” He growled, “As you think you are.”
She laughed in Zero-One’s voice again. “And you,” She murmured, expression turning into one of Hiden’s earnest, pleading looks, and his heart stuttered again, “Are not as strong as he needs you to be.”
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
“You’re wasting my time.” A sharp shove knocked Fuwa to the ground—but he didn’t get a chance to recover his bearings, as the Ark was kneeling over him again already, and he felt her fingers smoothing over his hair once more. “This is just bits of old memories. None of it’s real.” She struck him roughly across the jaw. “None of it matters!”
It felt wrong, hearing it all in Hiden’s voice, the young man’s face hovering above him and smirking with malicious glee. The hand petting his hair moved to cup his face with false gentleness, the smile broadening. The Ark tapped a fingertip to his temple again—and then he was looking stunned look of confusion and fear on Hiden’s face the first time he’d broken him out of Metal Cluster Hopper, looking so much like a frightened child it made his chest hurt…
The Ark laughed cruelly, snapping him out of the memory again. “That’s the beautiful thing about human minds.” She murmured patting his cheek softly. “You don’t just remember faces, places. You remember how you felt.” She was leaning far too close—close enough that he should have been able to feel breath. “You remember pain.” Everything burned, his mind and all of his senses flashing back to the day Horobi had nearly killed him. “Agony.”  Then it felt like his body was being torn apart, Assault Wolf’s henshin announcement ringing in his ears, and blood in his mouth—then Hiden’s hands on his arm, the boy’s voice raised in anxious alarum. “Shame.” Amatsu’s back as the man called him a stray and walked away, taking Yaiba with him and leaving him alone and battered on the cement. “Oh…?” She raised an inquisitive eyebrow, “Grief.” A memory from far in his past, standing beside his mother at his father’s funeral as a young boy. “And I,” Her hands cradled his face again, “Can trap you in your worst memories forever.” For a moment, her smile changed from a smirk into a frightfully perfect mimic of one of Hiden’s kind, innocent ones. “Would you like that?”
“No.” He barely recognised his own voice, no more than a broken rasp.
The Ark tilted her head, giving him a prompting look. “No, what?” Then he was facing off with Yaiba in the parking garage again, hoping she’d give him something anything so that it wouldn’t have to go there…
“No, thank you.” Fuwa spat through gritted teeth.
Another creepily accurate imitation of Hiden’s smile, and she moved her hand to stroke his hair again. “See?” She murmured, “Memories aren’t just where you’ve been. They’re who you are. And if I own that…?” She tapped him on the nose with a small giggle, “I own you. And when I get out of here, little mutt?” The hand on his head curled into a fist, gripping a handful of his hair, her other one grabbing his chin tightly, forcing him to look into her face—Hiden’s face—as she leaned even closer, the smile morphing into a cold stare, “… I will own everyone.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aaaaand… I dunno how to get out of here, so we’ll end there. ^^; I’m planning on doing another part of this bc there was one other thing I wanted to include. But I don’t know when I’ll have that done.
Negative Numbers
          ↪ Jakurai/Reader
Jakurai doesn’t consider himself a man of many indulgences.
He could make many excuses as to why that is, whether it’shis schedule, his lack of desire, his priorities–anything. There’s along list of things that come before his own pleasures that he has sorted downto a particular science and he’s too meticulous to stray from it at this pointin his life. Or perhaps he’s just getting old–too stubborn to strayfrom habit to fix what’s not entirely broken.
The only problem is that his current predicament might be inneed of fixing, given that it’s not the first time he’s had to deal withit in just the past two weeks.
Jakurai sighs to himself, having woken up from another dream–sovery unlike him, as seeing things in his sleep only ever means bad news.They’re not like the nightmares, at least, but he wonders if they’re worse.There is tea to drink and syringes to fiddle with when he is restless frombattle-hardened memories, but there is no quick fix to longing,indefinite as it is. Matters of the heart are confusing andfrustrating–incomprehensible and without reason. Jakurai dislikes problemsthat don’t come with decided formulas, even if he begrudgingly understands thathe’s no exception their inevitable nature.
He’d prefer it, at least, if that said longing took a moreshapeless, anonymous form. It’d be far, far easier if he didn’tassociate his desires with you.
Another sigh escapes him as he sits up, ever aware of the heatthat’s coiled up at his very core and how he strains against his pants.He’s not been a teenager for some time, but Jakurai is certain he’s notexperienced inane wet dreams in just as long. Faint images of animaginary you remain in his mind–your lips wrapped around his cock as you lookup to him, observing every reaction he gives you. The thought isn’t nearly assatisfying when he’s lucid, as the feeling ghosts along him instead ofactually providing anything of substance. Jakurai drags his legs over the sideof the bed and puts his face in his hands with a groan. He will have to takecare of this, even though a small part of him loathes putting the effort into asolution that will only last him a short while.
The clock reads 2:17 AM.
As it turns to 2:18, his phone rings.
Jakurai doesn’t bother to check the name before quicklyanswering it, hoping that maybe whoever it is may have more importantmatters to distract him with. Perhaps it’s Ichiro-kun, who’ll apologize for thelate hour but insist he needs some over-the-counter suggestions for one of hisbrothers… He considers Doppo-kun, but realizes he’d more likely be trying tosleep at this hour. Hifumi-kun should be at work, and–
“Oh, Jakurai-san? I didn’t think you’d answer at this hour.”
… Ah. This is quite the predicament.
“… It’s not very common,” he grunts out, cursing his ownluck that the very source of his distractions is just on the other end of theline. The sound of your voice sends a shiver down his spine and Jakurai pincheshis own thigh, as if reminding himself to keep his composure.
“You do sound like you’ve just woken up,” you say,sounding a little guilty. “I apologize if–”
“No,” he says, too hasty, before he shakes his head,trying to get rid of the haze. “No, I was… already awake. It’s no trouble. Whatwas it you wished to call me for?”
“You asked me for those documents a few days ago, remember?I’ve finally gotten them gathered and organized, so I figured I’d leave you avoicemail since your phone is usually off at these hours.”
“Is… that right?” he asks, just barely able to wrap his mindaround what you’re talking about. Jakurai ends up focusing so much on the soundof your voice that he can’t even comprehend what you’re saying. Goodness.
“… You sound flustered, Jakurai-san,” you say, soundingsuspicious. He shivers again at the sound of his name on your tongue. “Did I…perhaps interrupt something?”
Ah. A direct question, as always. Jakurai clears his throat,caught off guard, but he knows that alone has given him away and he wonders ifyou have that curious smile turning your lips up at this revelation. Thesilence is heavy, but you wait for his answer patiently. He swallows.
“… Something like that, perhaps.”
“I see,” you say, humming to yourself on the other end. “Yetyou saw it fit to answer me right away, regardless? It makes me wonder of yourintentions, Jakurai-san.”
“Nothing unsavory, I can promise,” he insists. Not foranswering the phone, at least. “I was quite hoping for a distraction fromthis… issue of mine, actually.”
“Oh? Talking business to get your mind on other things?” youask, sounding as if you’re shifting your phone from one ear to the other. “Or…were you looking for another sort of distraction?”
Jakurai feels himself throb and uses all of hiswillpower not to curse aloud. “… Is that your offer?’’
“I wouldn’t mind. We’re good friends, aren’t we?” youinsist. “I’m a bit pent up myself… it could be mutually beneficial.’’
Mutually beneficial. It sounds so clinical, butJakurai wants to use it as a proper excuse for himself. Maybe it’s not right ofhim, but if he can rationalize he’s also helping you in the process,then he suddenly doesn’t feel so bad about it.
… Is he really so desperate that he’ll reach for anything?
“… What do you propose?”
“Hm… Will just my voice do for you?”
“Yes.”
He hears you giggle on the other end and he moves to leanback against his bed frame. This is shameless, he knows, but you areboth adults. You know him too well by now to offer him something like thiswithout knowing the consequences… of which there will be many in the aftermaththat you’ll have to talk about in extent. But just this once, Jakurai doesn’twant to consider the details–he just wants you to tell him what to do.
“Tell me then, good doctor,” you say and he hears the soundof a chair leaning back. “What were you thinking about before you picked up thephone?”
Jakurai wraps an arm around his stomach, gripping at his ownclothes. “… I was dreaming of that which I do not have.”
“And what would that be?”
He’s afraid to say it, but your gentle voice prods him,anyway. “… You.”
“Oh?” you ask, feigning surprise as you hum to yourself. Youknow exactly what you’re doing, but he’s not inclined to stop you. “That’s verycurious indeed… For you to be so riled up, I must’ve been doing somethinginappropriate, for certain.”
“… It is my own fault, to have imagined it that way.”
“Nobody’s blaming anyone, are they? I’m simply askingbecause I want to help, Jakurai-san…” you say with an even tone. “… Was it myhand? Perhaps my mouth you were thinking of?”
His hand starts to loosen its grip. “… Your mouth.”
You fake a gasp of surprise, but he doesn’t respond to itright away. “Really? You’d be so desperate for me to have a taste ofyou? Jakurai-san, I’m surprised…” You pause. “… Though I suppose being calleda god makes one long for someone to kneel before them.”
“… I’m no better than any man seeking the warmth ofanother,” he says, allowing himself to push his pants past his hips and lettingout a sigh of relief as he rids himself of restraint. “I wish to be nothingmore before you, if I may…”
“Before me? Jakurai-san, you must be joking.”
“You would need only to ask of me…” he insists, shivering ashe wraps a hand around himself, circling his thumb at the tip. “Call it worshipif you wish… I’ll confess at your altar, if only you’d be mine…”
“Dangerous words from a dangerous man, Jakurai-san,” yousay, thought you sound a little breathless. He wonders if he can have that sortof effect on you–if you long in the same way that he does. “Surely…I’ll let your words go to my head, if I’m not careful.”
“I wouldn’t lie to you,”–never to you–“So youneed not to worry… If it’s a god you wish to be, then I would make it so…”Jakurai starts to stroke himself then, sighing as he imagines your hand insteadof his own–smaller, more delicate.
“Do you always make such impossible promises?” you ask. “Itmakes me wonder what it is you expect of me…”
“I expect nothing,” he says, moving his hand in a twistingmotion. “Even if this is all you’ll give me in the end… I won’t be able tostop. I’m too far along to let go…”
He hears you sigh against his ear this time and he wondersif you’ve begun to touch yourself, too. The thought haunts him–the image ofyou messily half-dressed as you seek release with him, unable to experienceanything but your own touch. Do you wish his hands were on you instead, the wayhe does yours? Do you want him to unravel you, take you apart until you laybare beneath him in the same way?
“… You offer too much of yourself, good doctor,” you saywith a breathless laugh. “… Wouldn’t you prefer to be a little selfish? Letme take care of you…?”
He stutters out a quiet moan, speeding up his pace a little.“I dare not to hope for such things, you must realize…”
“Let me indulge you then,” you insist, your breath hitchingas you speak. “Though all you have are my words right now… You can ask mefor whatever you like, Jakurai-san.”
“… You’re all I want,” he admits, too caught up in his ownpleasure to reel himself back in. “These are desires only you could possiblysatisfy… I long only for what you and you alone can give me…”
He hears a moan from the other end and Jakurai slumps backfurther against his bed frame. You’re in your own throes of pleasure, allbecause of him and he can hardly stand that he’s not there to see ithimself. It’s quiet between you two for a moment, save for the sounds you shareover the phone, but you speak up again after a while.
“… Allow me to give you that,” you eventually tell him,short of breath and so, so close–or so he hopes. “If it’s just me youwant, then take it… I won’t stop you.”
“Please–”
“You can finish… just for me, Jakurai-san.”
For you.
His breath hitches when he feels himself spill over hishand, leaning back heavily as it trails down his knuckles. He calls your nameout in whispers, wishing so desperately that you might be here to kiss it outof his mouth. Jakurai doesn’t have such a luxury, so he at least settles forhearing you call out for him in turn as you reach your own high from the otherend. You share heavy breaths over the phone and he’s too content to want tomove from his spot, wanting to let the moment drag on for as long as possible.You’re the one who breaks the silence and he almost regrets it.
“… Was that what you were looking for, Jakurai-san?”
He doesn’t answer right away, gathering his thoughts. “…Did you mean it? When you said you wouldn’t stop me?”
You laugh in response. “As you would do the same, I wouldn’tlie to you.”
His shoulders relax and despite himself, he feels hopeful.“Perhaps my timing is terrible, but… may I see you tomorrow? We should… discusssome things.”
“Of course. I’d hate to leave you with just thoughts of me…I’m not so cruel, you know.”
“Only when you don’t feel like it,” he says, unable to helpthe chuckle that leaves his throat.
“I won’t be cruel to you, is what I mean,” you say,sounding indignant. “But… the hour is late. For now, you should rest… and wecan have our talk tomorrow.”
“… You swear it?”
“On my very soul, Jakurai-san,” you say. “I’ll come for you,worry not.”
He nods to himself, offering a hum of approval before hefinally bids you good night. You’ll come for him, you promised it, anddespite the mess he’s in, his worries are no longer there in the back of hismind.
Jakurai will see you tomorrow–perhaps things will be setback on the right path, then.
So now I’m thinking about how not being able to visualize images affects my art, and the thing is, it’s really just that I can’t see what something is going to look like before I do it. So I have to do it to see how it’ll turn out, which means the result of what I’m doing often surprises me, in that I couldn’t visually predict exactly what it was going to look like if I combined these elements and color schemes and shapes that I wanted to combine. So sometimes I am unhappy with what I’ve made, and sometimes I change things halfway through or redo something entirely, but then sometimes I’m surprised by how “good” it is? Not good exactly—by how satisfying it is? By whether I feel like I’ve created the image I... wanted to imagine?
In fact, it’s almost that I create art because I can’t visualize images. That’s the only way I can make them for myself.
I seem to have almost total aphantasia, I can’t visualize imaginary images at all, and I never could, even as a kid. And while I can obviously remember what stuff looks like, I can’t “see” it in my head at all, unless I’m focusing on remembering a specific image I’ve seen, and then I can only “see” vague and fleeting impressions of color and shapes. I think entirely in words. I tell myself stories in words and act out dialogue in my head to imagine scenarios, rather than “looking” at a “movie” of what I’m imagining. And like, I never realized that wasn’t normal until maybe a year ago? I thought people were speaking figuratively when they said they could “picture” something. So I’m maybe not as self-aware about it as some people? And it also never occurred to me that not being able to visualize images might mean that I “shouldn’t” be able to do art? Or that there was anything abnormal about the way I do art?
This is all just very interesting.
