Looking back at your Ask boxā€¦
ā€¦ And realising you have Asks going back at least two yearsā€¦
Which is a good thing bc I just accidentally found out someone blocked me that I think I only interacted w/ them all of once and I'm not sure why but I might know why and now I feel bad, andā€¦
ā€¦ Yeah. I'll. Uh. I'll go think about the Asks, maybe.

In light of having just seen a transphobic post involving Naki/Nakayama, I had the need to reblog this again.
Especially w/ the update that last I remember hearing, I believe he had come out as male? Or at least preferring to identify as male. Although if anyone else knows more than me on that, feel free to update me!
@ne0dym and a friend on Twitter did an awesome translation of Nakayama Satsukiā€™s (Zero-Oneā€™s Naki) blog posts about their identity regarding gender and sexuality.
I wanted to share this bc I feel like itā€™s important, and all the English sources I saw on the subject had a sort of dismissive, disbelieving tone to the headlines that made me wary about them, so I wanted to try and find info from a credible sourceā€”and, naturally, Nakayama themselves is the most credible of them all.
They have also translated answers from live talks Nakayama has done regarding questions about their identity and Nakiā€™s:
HereĀ and here
The big note from those is that Nakayama has specifically said that they do not want to be perceived as or referred to as female, so please bear that in mind when discussing them.
Special thanks to @ne0dym for doing these translations in the first place and giving me permission to share them here!

Alsoā€¦
ā€¦ As I try to phase back into a more online presence, sorry for everyone I've left hanging message/social-wise, if you're still following me/looking at my blog. I stg I haven't forgotten, I've just been so massively drained bc of work and drama at work (next person who says the words 'luxury retail' is gonna hear me scream). I still have lots of thoughts, I still want to talk, I just have really bad executive dysfunction and possibly ADD that make it hard to maintain conversations/focus. I'm not trying to be an ass, I just lack the concentration.

Announcement no one neededā€¦
ā€¦ If anyone has been wondering why I haven't been around so much on here, I've been incredibly exhausted from being understaffed at work, mental health shit, and feeling a bit bombarded by doom scrolling on here.
Things are steadily improving at work and I'm trying to work on the mental stuff, but I may not be so talkative on here for a bit.
I don't mean to leave conversations hanging and I do want to come back, I'm just so burnt out right now it's hard to focus.
I will check in occasionally (anyone finds any great Horobi and Fuwa or certain Genshin content do send it my wayā€”I say, like there is any).
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude I am just very, very tired and trying to save energy.

Posting this bc I crave validationā€¦
ā€¦ And think I'm funny.
For context/lead upā€”my sister and I were discussing a baking fiasco where some brownies were exceedingly underbaked. Like, to quote, 'to criminal levels.'
And I had a flash of brilliance.

Not that the media/other things donā€™t romanticiseā€¦
ā€¦ I got in trouble in yoga class once (well, as much trouble as you can get in in yoga class) bc the teacher was doing a version of the Thanksgiving story and I, as previously mentioned, daughter of a history major w/ a focus in American history, interrupted w/Ā ā€˜but thatā€™s not what happened.ā€™

As the daughter of a history majorā€¦
ā€¦ Where the hell are so many americans on tumblr going to school???
I just saw a post about howĀ ā€˜itā€™s taught in america that the pilgrims were Good and fleeing religious intolerance but they were actually Badā€™ which first off, you cannot make those distinctions bc freaking everyone was up to kill anyone who didnā€™t agree in those days, but alsoā€¦ People claiming to be american claiming that they were definitely taught exactly that??
Maybeā€¦ If you never took a history class past elementary school, I guess. Or maybe you were in Florida (oh, gods, get my mother started on people killing each other in Florida).
Bc, resident American here, albeit one in Massachusetts, andā€¦ No. Weā€™re not taught that. You get a romanticised version in early grades maybe, but the higher you go, you get taught that the most Puritans had different religious beliefs than the standard in England, so they took the opportunity to ship off to the colonies. Thereā€™s no victimisation, itā€™s just straight facts. And that usually, that was the category of people shipped off to the coloniesā€”criminals, religious differences, poor peopleā€¦ Like no one in their right mind wanted to go off into theĀ ā€˜wilderness.ā€™ They did it bc they hated being where they were, and England was all too happy to get rid of them. Hell, they were also completely unprepared and many of them died on the way over. Like that shot went super bad for so many reasons.
Iā€™m not going to claim I remember every detail I was taught, and I had a bit of a deeper knowledge bc my mother is, again, a history major w/ an interest in American history bc it is whacky), and I do remember theĀ ā€˜foundingā€™ being a little simplified, but I also distinctly remember going into higher grades and having teachers outright explainĀ ā€˜what you were told as kids was a very simplified version, letā€™s talk about it in more detail.ā€™ We werenā€™t taught that there wereĀ ā€˜goodā€™ orĀ ā€˜badā€™ guys, we were taught that these people had a difference in belief and that for that reason, they ended up shipped off to the colonies. We talked about the conflicts, the damage, the ugly bits.
I think people claiming to have been taught a sanitised version either didnā€™t take many history classes, didnā€™t pay attention, or donā€™t remember much of what they were taught (which no judgement here, I barely remember). Or maybe theyā€™re just trying to sound Cool on the internet? I canā€™t know. But I remain baffled by certain myths about the us that alleged Americans come out of the woodwork to claim are true whenā€¦ YourĀ experiences are not universal???
Like Iā€™m happy to criticise the education system, bc excuse me while I cry about not being able to hold a conversation in Spanish, but like. Unless you were in a very particular environment (I went to public school, btw)ā€¦ No, you werenā€™t taught that shit. Thereā€™s parts missing, sure, but they did not, at least not beyond elementary, try to claim theĀ ā€˜Pilgrimsā€™ were blameless. I remember being taught that life was harsh and short, and people bitter and stubborn. I donā€™t doubt that the wordsĀ ā€˜fleeing religious intoleranceā€™ mightā€™ve been used, bc technically, yes, they were. But I am also intolerant of trolls, and mosquitos. Thatā€™s a statement, it has no bearing on what kind of people either group was.
#Firebird Randomness#I find it fascinating how this site veers between shitting on England and holding it up and some noble paragon#like I'm sorry you wanna shit on the Puritans like go ahead but don't make out like they were any worse than any other religious sect#esp in England at that time#or hell Europe you wanna talk about the Spanish conquests of the Americas??#but I literally just had an exCUSE me??? reaction to that post#like our education system is BAD I wish I could speak another language properly for one#terrible at dealing w/ learning disabilities#and maybe some stuff requires a little effort#but DEF by high school my history teachers made no secret about the effects of colonisation#or the extremism of the puritan beliefs#this is one of those prove you've never been to the us w/out saying it moments#like obvi history is taught differently#per a British friend the US actually disappears from English teaching after the Puritans leave until the revolution#additionally we also get taught that many of them still considered themselves British#like they weren't 'trying to find a new world' they just hated everyone else as much as everyone hated them#but many of them still thought they were 'British' that didn't change until later#but serious geebus people here will just take anything at face value#history is bloody and colonisation and conquest may have most famously started in Europe#but that also means that you can't wash your hands of it and say 'it was them they were bad'#like I'm digressing here I'm just so baffled

Sometimesā€¦
ā€¦ I mystified by the worlds people apparently live in.
Like I know no oneā€™sĀ experiences are universal, but like.
Just saw a post that was talking about being raised w/ no knowledge or experience w/ Christianity whatsoever, and having people be shocked that they didnā€™t knowā€¦ Obscure facts about Christian beliefs that even I, whose mother went to Catholic School, donā€™t know (although we are areligious and Iā€™m sure I could ask her).
Like there were other things mentioned in the post like not knowing about the actual crucifixion etc. and it was also like, talking about being in an art history thing. But like. I didnā€™t know about the crown of thorns until I personally asked about it after seeing a picture, and Iā€™ve never heard of water coming out of his wound. If you asked me to name monk denominations I could maybe do one on a good day.
This isnā€™t to say that Christianity isnā€™t treated as very common place, like my motherā€™s family is from the MidWest US, itā€™s very mainstay out there, and itā€™s very prevalent in a lot of European culture and history bc variations on it were the main religion of several European countries.
Itā€™s just sort of a fascinating thing of three different angles all looking at each other in bewilderment, bc thereā€™s people who know nothing about it apparently in situations where they are expected to know specific details, and then me, who wasĀ actually raised adjacent (like I said, not religious at all, Pagan at most), also really confused bc in my experience thatā€™s mostly notĀ common knowledge, either.
The world works in mysterious ways.
