Silver Lining Playbook Movie Review
🌟Welcome, today I will be reviewing Silver Lining Playbook,
As always I will start off with some movie information (ex. Director, screenwriters, etc.) Then I will have a NON-SPOILER review, and a review with spoilers. Then at the end I will rate the movie between 1 - 5 lightning bolts.
Note: this is just my opinion and you don’t have to agree with me.
⭐️Movie Info -
Director: David O. Russell
Screenwriter(s): David O. Russel
Budget:
Box Office: $21,000,000 (estimated)
Rotten Tomatoes Score:
IMDb Rating:
Release Date: December 25, 2014
Rated:
Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance
TRT: 2 hours & 2 minutes
other: Based on the novel by Matthew Quick
⭐️Synopsis:  (note: this is my synopsis of the movie)
When Pat gets out of a mental hospital he tries everything he can do to get back with his ex wife, Nikki. Pat is introduced too Tiffany who also recently lost her loved one. Both have more in common than they think. Tiffany sees the similarities they both have but Pat is still stuck on Nikki. Tiffany then makes a deal with Pat that’ll help him communicate with Nikki.
💫Spoiler-Free Review:
I can appreciate the acknowledgment of mental health. It shows a different side of how people perceive mental health. Like how the smallest thing can be a trigger for someone or how some people cope. As I watching the movie I enjoyed how they showed people with mental health issues do their everyday life. But about half way through the movie it’s like they forgot about the characters mental health. In my opinion it talked a little too much about football. Now it was important to the story but it went too much into it.  I loved how they let the two main characters bond over their issues. And how their families perceive their issues. This movie was good. But I wouldn’t say this is a good movie to watch if you want to understand the mental disorders the characters have.  Please when watching this movie please understand that this movie does not explain exactly how mental health issues works.
💫Review #2:(WARNING SPOILERS)
This movie was good. But I wouldn’t say this is a that helps people understand mental health issues. I can appreciate the comedy of how people with similar issues can bond. The dinner scene on how Tiffany and Pat were laughing about what kind of medication they’ve had and laughing over it; and how the couple felt awkward was a good introduction to show they have similar things. And that not everyone understands what it’s like to have mental health issues like theirs.
I want to start talking about Tiffany first. They weren’t very clear on why she hated football so much. Maybe I missed it but I honestly don't know why she hates football. Was it her husband’s favorite sport? I don’t know. Then all of a sudden she knew every score of the football games. I liked how weird she is like how she hides behind the tree and jumps out and scares Pat when they run together. I also like how she accepted that she had issues and didn’t care who knew.
Let’s talk about Pat now. It’s really hard from to review this character because I don't know much about Bipolar disorder. But they showed how obsessed he was to get back with Nikki. He went as far as reading all the books she taught in her classes all night long. He ran everyday to get in shape for her. And he was really willing to do anything for Nikki. This is something that is true and it shined some light on it. Then it shows him accepting that he does love Tiffany and Nikki isn’t right for him.
Now I quickly wanted to ask about two particular scenes. First, I want to talk about the song trigger scene. This is something that is very real something as small as song can really trigger someone. I think this scene is really important. No one around him understood what was happening and the audience didn’t understand either until Pat explained it. Then I wanted to talk about the scene where they agree that Pat will do the dance competition with Tiffany in exchange for her giving Nikki  the letter. Tiffany realized she wanted someone to do something for her for once. She didn’t want to be the one always doing something for someone. I think that was an important scene because there are many people who do feel that way and others don't realize it.
Then one last thing. The boy who kept wanting to interview Pat about his bipolar disorder. I think that was also important. It shows how schools don’t teach these kind of things. School view it as something odd but one of their teachers can easily have one of these disorders. It also shows how some people just don't understand that it’s not an easy topic to talk about. And that someone’s disorder isn’t for others entertainment.
⚡️Now for my final thoughts & overall scoring:
This movie shows how people with mental health issues can bond but I personally wouldn’t say mental health issues make people fall in love together. People can just as well be friends or just acquaintances. But also it shows how it’s common for people to have mental health issues. They both lived in a small neighborhood and they both had issues.
Now for my overall rating...I’d give this movie 4 lightning bolts ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️. It’s a great movie but like I said before not a good movie to watch to understand mental health issues
thanks for reading.

Fun Facts:
Winona Ryder acquired the rights to the novel herself and then spent seven years trying to get the movie made.
Angelina Jolie avoided any communication with Winona Ryder when making the movie, claiming that if she saw anything human about Winona Ryder, she would not have been able to act out the sociopath character Lisa Rowe as effectively.

Movie Rant #1 - underrated movies
⚡️Welcome to my (technical second) first movie rant.
Today I will be talking about movies I think are completely underrated. Today I’ll just cover 5 movies. You may have heard of them you haven’t don’t feel bad not a lot of people have. I'll talk about the movies and why I love them and a little bit of why you should watch these.
(Note this is just my opinion you don’t have to agree with me.)
5. The Outsiders
Tumblr media
This is probably one of my favorite books to movie. It’s one of the few movies that actually stuck to the book and not change it completely. Honestly, it’s like they used the book as the script which I love. If your are a 90′s kids then you probably read this book in middle school or high school. But my at my schools they didn’t have us read this book. Not only does it stick to the book it’s a movie that anyone can relate to. It may be set in the 50′s but that doesn’t mean you find a character you relate to.
4. Thumbelina
Tumblr media
This movie does go along with the many movies where the girl sees the guy once and falls in love. But thats not why I love this movie. This movie is such random movie it’s so fun to watch. You wouldn’t expect any of the things you see it happen. And the songs are so cute honestly I’d probably add them to my Disney playlist. (btw this movie was on disney+ but they took it off)
3. The Last Five Years
Tumblr media
Honestly, I’m surprised this movie didn’t get a bigger audience. Especially since the two main actors are Anna Kendrick and a broadway star Jeremy Jordan. Now this movie is one you do have to pay attention to because it flips between many different years. But I think it shows a different side of love. The part where it may seem like it’ll will work out but things don’t always go as planned. And if you love musicals and love stories then this is a movie for you. When going from year to another you’ll be sad one moment then laughing in the next.
2. The Swan Princess
Tumblr media
I’m not gonna lie...I’m pretty sure that people who created Shrek go their idea form this movie. (yes this movie came out before Shrek (not that I don’t like Shrek)) It’s the classic ugly luckily story but with a twist. Unlike many other Disney princess movies this movie actually shows the prince and princess fall in love. And this princess she knows what she wants she’s not gonna marry a man that only loves her for her looks. If only there are more princesses like her.
⚡️Now for my last and final movie. Now this one I can grantee that you have NEVER heard of. This movie came out in the 80′s and would only be shown on tv late at night (like past midnight late) and it never came out on theaters. So even if your parents were hardcore 80′s kids they probably wouldn’t have heard of this movie either.⚡️
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
1. Ladies & Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains
Tumblr media
This is probably my all time favorite movie. It’s about a girl rock band in the 80′s trying to make it in the weirdest way. It’s not like normal rock band movies it does have a small love interest. But what really makes the movie it the main character. She doesn’t care about what a people think of her and she just wants to rock. Now for this movie I don’t expect you to love it (or any of these movies I listed) this does take a certain type of person to enjoy this movie. But if you love rock music &/or indie movies (or a combo indie rock movies) then you just might like this movie.
Thanks for reading

The Grand Budapest Hotel Review
Welcome to my first review. Today I will be reviewing ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel.’
The first part of my review will be information about the film it self (ex. budget, director, screenwriter, etc.) The second part will be a NON - spoiler review. Then the third part will a review that does CONTAINS SPOILERS. Then in the end I will give my lightning bolt review. I’ll choose between 1 - 5 lightning bolts⚡️.
Now for review...
⭐️ Director: Wes Anderson
⭐️ Screenwriter(s): Wes Anderson, Stefan Zweig, & Hugo Guiness
⭐️ The screenplay of this movie was written by Wes Anderson which was inspired by many books written by Stefan Zweig.
⭐️ Rated: R
Synopsis: (note this is my versions of a synopsis of this movie) When Monsieur Gustave, the concierge of the Grand Budapest Hotel, is accused for murdering one of his lovers. Zero, the lobby boy, becomes a loyal friend of Monsieur Gustave. Zero helps Monsieur Gustave take what was left for him in his former lover’s will.
Best Quote: “Rudeness is merely the expression of fear.”
Review: (spoiler free) If you’re looking for a bright colorful movie then this is the movie for you. Wes Anderson broke the rules of movie making. This movie has so many things that you wouldn’t expect out of a movie. It’s a colorful, comedy/crime movie about a two hotel worker. This movie is so random but so fun you can’t help but laugh. Every character is unique; big or small every character has a special feature to them. Which makes it even more interesting. This movie isn’t your typical movie but it’s one every movie lover should watch.
Review: (WARNING - SPOILERS) This is probably the most colorful movie I have every seen...and I love it. Usually movies stick to one color palette but this one used many different ones. Not only did Wes Anderson broke the color palette rule he also broke so many more. Changing the frame size of the entire film. When going from the 1980′s to the 1930′s the frame size got small. Switched narrators through out the movie. Then used many different film and editing techniques.
He also gave every character a unique trait. Whether they were on screen for a few seconds they still had a unique part of them. Almost every other male character that had a speaking role had a different mustache. Zero with his fake, hand drawn, black line mustache; and Dmitri’s slight handle-bar mustache. Even the minor characters. Like Agatha and her beautiful birthmark on her face and Jopling’s rings.
Monsieur Gustave is a very unique character. At first he seems like the type to judge everyone and talk down tow others. But in reality he’s kind to everyone. He’s constantly complimenting others for the littlest things. He really does live by “Rudeness is merely the expression of fear.”
Zero is also a very unique character. He’s a refugee who happened to work at the Grand Budapest Hotel. He ends up falling love with Agatha and ended up inheriting the entire hotel.
The relationship between Monsieur Gustave and Zero is very unique. M. Gustave didn’t treat Zero like an immigrant. He treated him like a student and a brother. When stopped in the train he stood up for Zero. He didn’t take down to Zero. He even wanted to make sure the girl that Zero loved was good for him.
Let’s talk about the way the movie was filmed and edited. I can only imagine the wya they storyboarded everything. There were so many zooms, pans, and especially long one take shots. I loved the long one take shots. It kinda forced the actors/actress to be good in every shot. Forcing them to not rely on the editor to make the look good. Then I noticed that there were some scenes that almost looked animated. As an intermediate editor it looked like they took out every couple of frames to make it look animated. Ne scenic particular that had this animated look was the skiing scene. If you really pay attention to that scene you’ll understand what I mean.
Now for my personal favorite parts. I loved the colors, the way it was filmed, edited, and the uniqueness of every character. The scoring was amazing.  I loved how it showed the different levels of success of the hotel. From is peak, downfall, and it's success from the book. I especially loved the little things. The keys, colors (I know I've mentioned the colors a lot), weirdness, and the Courtesan au Chocolat. If I could get my hands on a Courtesan au Chocolat I’d pay whatever cost. That cream filled pastry looks so good. (yes I've looked for videos on how to make it and it looks very hard) I feel like there are so many hidden meanings throughout this film. To the colors of the walls, and to the snowy mountains.
Now I can’t argue about the ending. It was sort of a sad but also happy ending. I hate how Agatha and Monsieur Gustave died. But I liked how Zero remembered them both through the hotel. There are so many unanswered questions about Agatha; but it’s like it was written to purposely keep Agatha as a personal thing with Zero. But in the end it kinda gave the hotel a slight happy ending.
Time for my personal rating...
I’d give this movie 5 lighting bolts ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
This movie breaks so many rules and is just a different way of story telling.

The Beginning
Hello, my name is Stains.
I'm a young film enthusiast. I’m not new to any film knowledge. If anything at an intermediate film knowledge level. I know more than the average person but I’m also learning. I’m always excited to learn new things about filmmaking. To how the idea first started all the way to when it came in theaters.
In my opinion movie reviews have gone unappreciated for years now. Now it’s just “I give it 5 stars because I liked who played therein character.” And most of the time they like the main actor/actress because they think they’re “hot” or “pretty.” (Totally not talking about all the girls who go watch the Spider-man movies because they think Tom Holland is hot and not because they actually are Spider-man fans.)
What happened to analyzing the movies and understanding the deep message that the entire crew was trying to help betray??? What happened to the real appreciation for films??? So many people no longer care about how long it took the makeup artist to create the gory makeup look. Or how long it took the editors to edit the entire movie. Or the thoughts and feelings the writers expressed in the script. What happened to real film appreciation???
Now I’m not saying everyone stopped appreciating movies. What I’m trying to say is that a lot of people no longer appreciate the time and effort it took the entire crew to help make the film. Or appreciate the things movies do for us. Nowadays it’s rare to find a kid under 18 who has actually seen Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. And when they do watch it they complain how “slow it is” or how “bad the animation is.” When in reality it was one of the first animated film to become a movie. And it took 3 years for Walt Disney and his crew to create that film. Kids nowadays want action packed, gore, blood, and guns. (Now not all kids do but a lot do) They want things fast and now editors need to cut the shots short just to keep these kids to pay attention.
Okay, now I'm done with my little rant for today. And if you made it this far...thank you I appreciate you listening to my little movie rant. Now you stay and follow me and listen to what I think about movies. Or you can move on with your day. I’m fine with either one. And if you’d like you can send a chat a recommend some movies I can review. And you’re wondering what to expect. I will be sitting down and watching a movie one night (not look at my phone), jot down somethings, then come here and write what I thought of whatever movie I watched. And maybe once in a while I’ll come here and do another little movie rant.
Thank you for reading
