Honestly this one is ridiculous! I am danish, Hans Christian Andersen who wrote The Little Mermaid, was danish, so this is my culture, my cultural heritage if you will and let me just say this now.. mermaids are not real, they do however exist in folklore all the way from the Nordic countries and down to Africa where they are also known as water spirits. I saw your video on war bonnets and appreciated the info. I've been looking into native American culture, because I'd like to get a tattoo some day, that has something to do with the culture. This is because there's a song in my native language (dutch) which is about love between siblings, and they use a metafor including native Americans and kings.

It would be a simplistic version of the war bonnet, with a crown in the same style. Both placed on my upper leg, where most people would not see it.

Do you think this could be offensive to indigenous Americans?

I’m glad you liked the video but I’m not sure I am the right person to ask. And I’m sorry about the late reply. If I’m not too late here’s my take.

As I am not Native American I will not pretend to know their mind, but if you are not part Native American yourself I would err on the side of caution and find another way to express your love for the song/ your siblings, as it could easily be taken as appropriation as most people probably don’t know it’s about the song.

Again this is a personal opinion of a white European so, I would suggest finding someone Native American on either TT or IG and dm them, they will be able to give you a far better answer.
