There was a time, when I always wanted to impress everyone. I tried really, really hard. I would show myself as this perfect person with a perfect life. Reality was so much more different. At the end of the day...I didn't feel anything. I didn't feel happy at all. I felt empty. Unfortunately...it went on for a couple of years because I was too young to even fathom what was happening. It took me a long time to break out of this toxic cycle. I finally showed the cracks underneath. It took me so much time to understand that I am not perfect and that I don't have to pretend to be perfect either. It took a long time to come in terms with this, but the wait is worth it. How I lost my friends to Social Media.

Social Media has been around for more than a decade now and its popularity is increasing day by day. As of in 2021, there are 4.48 billion people actively using social media in the world, and this is an increase of 13.13% year-on-year from 3.69 billion in 2020. Social media has so many advantages as we all know by now, with an equal number of disadvantages. After all, if there is light, there must be darkness, right ?

But I'm not here to talk about that now. To be honest, I don't even know where exactly does this topic fit in.

I'm gonna talk about the way my friends changed, or rather, lost interest in maintaining actual interpersonal relationships and were paying more attention to who they tagged or followed.

My friends and I had a good connection ever since school. Our bond was tight and our dynamic was off the charts. It was not until recently, at a reunion, I actually realized how much they had changed with respect to their social life. They were constantly on various Social Media Apps, taking photo after photo, striking different poses for every single one. I'm also on social media, and I know how great it is to take photos to commemorate the lovely time you spent, but isn't like 75 photos off the hook?

All we ever did was wait a good half an hour for the food, took photos in every possible angle and leave, without asking a thing about each other's lives.

The real human connection goes..down the drain.

I even heard one say" Oh, that one's not on social media, it would be a waste of time to take a photo."

Excuse me, what ??

Since when did our presence on social media, or the way we look, or the number of followers we had, even matter in order to be friends ?

What happened to bonding over shared interests, inside jokes, or good memories ?

This is not a hate post...but rather a memo.

A memo to live in the present moment.

Don't get me wrong, use social media..post photos, make videos, do whatever you want ..it helps a lot..even this blog of mine.

But pay attention to the little things, 'cause they come only once.
