You looked at the stranger in front of you as he talked about his history class. He was a history major and you assumed that he must share some classes with Steve. You made a mental note of asking him later if he knew about John.
He was charming, and a little bit handsome but there was something you could not quite put your finger on. You quickly pushed that thought away as he had given you no warning signs at the moment and instead allowed yourself to enjoy the evening with him.
You feel a little guilty for spending the afternoon with someone you’ve just met instead of going home and fixing things with Bucky. I will talk to him when I get home, you thought to yourself.
“Um, Y/n?” John softly calls out to you, stopping his story of WWII. “I’m sorry,” he says rubbing the back of his head with his hand, “I tend to ramble on and on when it comes to history, I didn’t mean to bore you.”
“No you didn’t,” you say almost too quickly. “I’m just a little tired, I haven’t had a good day today.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” he says, reaching out to softly caress your hand.
You shake your head softly and as you open your mouth to reply, your phone rings on the table.
Both you and John look at your ringing phone as a picture of Bucky and you making silly faces pops on your screen.
John moves his hand away from yours and stiffs a little.
“That your boyfriend?” He points to the phone.
“What, him? No, he’s my roommate” you answer as you press the home screen to silence the phone call.
You notice John relaxes a little from his side of the booth and his charming smile is back on his face once again.
“You should answer it,” he says through a smile as Bucky calls again.
“It’ll be just a sec,” you say and excuse yourself from the table.
You walk outside the coffee shop and answer your phone.
“Hey, Bu-”
“Doll, listen you gotta come home quick,” Bucky hurries out in one breath.
A shiver runs down your spine as you run through all possible scenarios of Buky’s panic.
“Bucky, are you hurt? Is everything ok?” You look inside the coffee shop and give a slight wave at John who was looking at you from the booth.
“Yeah, no, listen you have to come home. Now. It’s DEFCON 5, or 1. Whichever one is the worst.” This time he whispers through the phone and that worries you even more.
Thinking Bucky might be in serious trouble, you rush into the coffee shop to grab your backpack.
You cover the end of the phone and apologize to John as your roommate is in some kind of emergency.
“Do you need my help?” He asks as he’s standing up from the booth to leave with you.
“No, thank you. I’ve got it covered.” You reply to him.
“A ride then?” He offers.
“Y/N,” Bucky whispers on the other end of the phone call. “Are you there?”
“Yeah Buck, I’m here.” You reply to Bucky, “I’ll be home in a few.”
You turn to John and decline his offer for a ride since you drove your own car.
At the lack of any other form of help to offer, he lets you go.
You hurriedly walk outside the coffee shop and towards the parking lot.
“Bucky? You there?” You ask the man on the other side of the phone.
“Yeah, I’m here. What’s taking you so- I’ll be there in a minute!” he yells to someone on the other side of the phone.
“Bucky?” You ask, suspicion growing inside you. You stop outside of your car, hands halting on the door handle. “Who are you with?” “Um, ok. But don’t get mad at me,” he goes back to whispering.
You get inside the car, putting the keys into the ignition and turning it on. You connect the phone to the bluetooth in your car to be able to talk on the phone freely.
“Bucky, what did you do?”
“Your mom is here”
You freeze and feel a shiver run down your spine.
It’s not that you didn’t like your mom, quite the contrary. You two had a nice relationship, most of the time. Sometimes she could be a little nosy and overbearing, especially about your love life, and your financial life, and your work life. Well,  all your life.
You haven’t told her about Mark yet, given that it hasn’t been that long. Instead, you opted to wait until you saw her in person to give yourself a little time to prepare. You, Bucky and Steve went to the same college in a different state from home, Brooklyn. The distance allowed you to keep up the pretense but you weren’t expecting your mom to visit you unprompted.
“Buck,” you started slowly “what is she doing at your apartment?”
“Ours,” he remarked. “And I don’t know, but she knows about Mark so you better hurry up.”
You groaned in frustration as you made your way to the apartment.
“Oh, and one more thing doll, she knows we’re married.”

The soft glow from the sun enters through the light brown curtains that have been pushed aside to let the light in. The window, which faces the beautiful landscape of upstate New York, is cracked open slightly to let the warm spring breeze in. Bucky's standing next to the window, looking out to the beautiful pink trees.
"You would love this," he whispers softly, turning to your laying form on the hospital bed. The beeping from the machines bringing him back to the reality. It has been a few weeks and you still haven't woken up.
"Their body took a huge hit," Dr. Cho explained. "It will take some time for it to heal."
Time. It has never been kind to Bucky so why would it start now. He moves to sit on the chair as he has been doing since your arrival. You are never alone in this room, Bucky and Tony made sure of that. If one wasn't there, the other would take his place and keep you company.
Morgan and Pepper would come visit sometimes too. Your younger sister would tell you stories about her day. "They can listen to me Mommy, I wan't to make sure they know everything that's happening" she once said to Pepper. And she did, she would tell you about the bugs she's seen in the yard, her newest toy and the adventures she has with Peter who's become like an older sibling to her.
Bucky sighs as he takes your hand and softly caresses it with his thumb. His memory brings him back to the mission and how cold your skin felt that day. If only he had gotten to you faster or if he hadn't gotten distracted by your smile he would've seen the man behind you.
"It wasn't your fault." Steve is standing in the doorway already reading his best friend's mind. "A lot of things went wrong on the mission, there was nothing you could've done," he continues as he walks closer to Bucky. He places a hand on his slumped shoulders on a weak attempt at comfort.
Bucky sighs as he sinks further into the chair, his hand never leaves yours.
"Have you eaten yet?" Steve asks. He already knows the answer but he still asks.
Bucky simply shakes his head, his gaze not leaving yours. It's as if he's afraid you might slip away if he stops looking at you.
Steve sighs, he knows better than to fight him again. They have been down this road way too many times these past few weeks. Instead he excuses with an "I'll be right back" and goes to find his friend something to eat. Bucky used to take care of him all the time when they were kids, it is only fair that he's the one taking care for a change. His bestfriend needs him and he won't leave him alone when he needs him the most.
On his way out, Steve passes through a somber looking Tony. He takes a mental note to bring food for two as he is sure Tony hasn't eaten as well. Pepper tried her best to take care of Tony but she knew he was as stubborn as a mule when he got deep into his thoughts.
Tony walked into the room and sat down opposite of Bucky.
"No changes?" he softly asked.
"None," Bucky answered. There was no hint of the banter they used to have. No mocking, no nicknames. Tony and Bucky settled into a quiet relationship, stilled in time waiting for you to wake up.
Tony has been extra careful on missions now, he's gone as far as not allowing Peter to go anymore. He's also reluctant to let Pietro and Wanda go since they were also young and fairly new to the team. When the rest of the team has to go on missions, he makes sure there is always a suit with them ready to help out. Even though it made the rest of the older Avenegers feel as though they were being babysat, they knew where it came from.
The room settled into a silence, as it often does when Tony and Bucky are there. The beeping of the machines is the only thing filling the silence. After a few minutes Steve comes back with lunch for both of his friends. He too sat down for a little while until F.R.I.D.A.Y. called them for a debriefing.
"Me too?" said Bucky, eyeing between Tony and the ceiling where the female voice came from.
"Yes, Sargeant Barnes," answered F.R.I.D.A.Y.. "Director Fury requires your prescence."
Bucky looks at Steve who only shrugs in response. There is no defying Fury's orders so he would have to leave the room. He hates the thought of leaving you alone like this.
"F.R.I.D.A.Y. is Peter here?" Tony asks in response to Bucky's silent question.
"Yes, he is at the lab with Dr. Banner."
"Perfect, tell him I need him to come over quickly please," Tony answered.
It is not often that Bucky and Tony can know what each other was thinking with a mere glance. This silent conversation was usually reserved for Steve or you. In Tony's case, only Pepper could read his mind. The rest of the crew guessed that it was because of you and their mutual concern for you that they can understand each other well.
It took Tony a long time for him to be ok with you and Bucky's romance. Of course it wasn't official since neither of you was brave enough to confess your feelings but the Avengers knew. It was only a matter of time before something brought you two together.
They just didn't want this something to be you on a coma.
Tony saw how happy Bucky made you, how carefree you were around him. He also saw how in turn, Bucky was also more comfortable around you than anyone else. With your suggestion, he began going to therapy and began opening up more to others. At first he would only talk to Steve, then you, now he was able to make small talk with everyone. Slowly, and with time, Tony caved in and accepted the idea of the two of you together. He just hoped it wasn't too late.
Peter walks into the room panting.
"I came as fast as I could Mr. Stark," he said.
"Thanks kid, I need you to stay here with Y/N." Your dad motions at you while Bucky stares at Peter. "We're going to an important meeting. No interrupting unless it's about Y/N, understood?"
"Yes Mr. Stark," Peter hurriedly nods and moves to occupy the now empty seat on your left. He wouldn't dare sit on Bucky's chair, everyonew knew that was his spot and nobody could take it.
Tony, Steve and Bucky leave the room to attend the meeting not before Bucky shot you a longing look. He hated being away from you, anything could happend to you, life made sure he knew that already. He wanted more than antyhing to never leave your side.
Steve patted him on the shoulder and gently pushed him towards the hallway.
"The quicker we get there, the quicker you can get back," Steve said.
They entered the elevator and gloomly walked to the meeting.
In your room Peter was now talking to you, rambling about his new project with Bruce.
"The nurse tells us to talk to you, that you might be listening," he said softly. He shifts in the chair rubbing his hands before reaching for yours. He remembers how pale you looked that day, after all, he was on the rescue mission.
He feels the warmth on your hand and lets go a sigh of relief. The first few days you were cold and pale. He looks up at you and blinks that image from his mind away. They're ok now, he reminds himself.
"Um," he starts again looking at your sleeping face. "You'd be happy to hear that I finally asked MJ out. I thought it'd be super awkward 'cause she's my friend but I think that actually made it more comfortable. Um, what else..." he trailed off thinking of the new topics he has yet to catch you up on. He went on to tell you about school, the latest projet with Bruce and all of his missions as Spider-Man.
On the other side of the compound, an anxious Bucky sits in the meeting with the rest of the Avengers. It has been more than a couple hours and the night settled in. He knows he should be focused on the person talking but his mind was elsewhere. It always was.
Nat lays a reassuring hand on his arm. "They're fine," she mouths. Bucky simply nods and shifts his gaze to Fury who was reprimanding the team once again for the mistakes made in the mission. He doesn't need a play by play from Fury; Bucky has done nothing but replay the mission in his head ever since you all came back.
Fury finishes the meeting and Bucky is out the door before he can change his mind and call them again. He doesn't hear his friends' concerned voices nor does he pay any mind to them as his only priority now is you. He promised himself he would be there when you woke up and that's exactly what he's going to do.
He reaches the medical wing on the Avengers campus when a feeling of uncertainty reaches him. Something is not right, he thinks to himself.
It is not long until F.R.I.D.A.Y's voice sounds loud and clear on the speaker: "Sargeant Barnes, Peter Parker wants to communicate with you."
Her calm voice cuts out to a frantic Peter who is almost yelling as the message would reach Bucky faster that way. "Mr. Barnes, Sir, Sargeant? You should come quickly, I think they're waking up or, or I don't know 'cause their hand started moving and the machine went crazy and I-"
Bucky didn't hear anything else. Blood pumping in his ears, heartbeat racing in his chest, Bucky was sprinting to your room. He prayed to whatever god was out there, whatever deity would listen, that you'd be alright.
He sprinted into the room, not minding the chaos of nurses and doctors surrounding you. Not minding the sound of a frantic Peter who was trying to tell Bucky what happened. He didn't even notice time passing as he saw you there, laying in the same bed you have been for weeks, with your eyes softly opened and directed at him.
You smiled weakly at the man in front of you. You had felt scared waking up in a strange room, with needles poking out of you and machines beeping around you. That sensation soon vanished, of course, as soon as Bucky walked into the room.
He crossed the short space that separated the two of you in a matter of seconds. Bucky's hands were shaking, he wanted to touch you, needed to touch you more than he needed air but he was afraid of hurting you.
You saw the conflict in Bucky's eyes and slowly extended your hand from under the covers so that he could take it. Softly, ever so gently, Bucky wrapped his hands around yours and pressed a soft kiss to the tips of the fingers.
"There's something really important I have to tell you sweetheart," he whispered as he moved one hand to caress your cheek.
Bucky didn't care that the room was filling up with the rest of the Avengers, he didn't care that the nurses and Doctor Cho were waiting to examine you. In fact, neither of you two noticed because at this moment, right at this second, the only thing that mattered was your hands intertwined and your eyes on each other holding all the love in the universe.
Bucky looked at you straight into your eyes and gathered all the courage he had. "Y/N, you are the most important person that I have in my life, even more so than Steve-"
You heard a complaining noise coming from Steve and saw Nat elbowing him to shut him up. You softly chukled at the two and moved your attention back to Bucky.
You were about to reply when he interrupted you.
"Please let me finish." Part of the urgency was the need of confessing everything he has felt for you all these years but never did for fear of you rejecting him, or that he wasn't good enough for you. “You are the best thing that‘s happened to me. You’ve made me more human by seeing me as Bucky rather than the Winter Soldier. You never gave up on me, even when I did, and for that I am grateful. I am telling you this-“ Bucky took a sharp breath in and you finally realized how much you truly meant to him. You saw the pain in his eyes and the black circles that adorned them. You took in his unkept hair and the stubble of his beard growing. You imagined if the situations were reversed and it was him who almost died in your arms, realizing that you would be in the same shape as he is right now.
But that’s because I love him, you thought to yourself. Surely he doesn’t feel the same way, unless-
“Sweetheart, I thought I lost you.” His hands trembled on yours and you saw a few tears beginning to fall. You wiped them with your free hand and caressed his cheek. He turned his head towards the palm of your hand and gave it a soft kiss. “I love you y/n,“ he finally whispered. “I can’t lose you again.”
"Oh Bucky," you softly whispered back. "I love you too."
He leans in to give you a soft kiss on the lips. It was everything you expected it to be and better. His lips were soft on yours and the sparked the collision of your lips with each other caused was enough energy to bring you back to life ten thousand times.
"Ok, ok, enough of that." Your father interrupts you two as he moves to give you a tight hug. "Don't do that to me again peanut."
"I won't, I promise" you softly whispered.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were sitting on the edge of the window by the library. The tall rows of books that surrounded you provided you certain stability and comfort. It was summer but the A/C in the compound would be turned to the max so you wrapped a blanket around your legs to provide you with a little bit of warmth.
You stared at the window looking at the sight of upstate New York. It has been a few months since you left the hospital but the fight to recovery was not over. Much to your protests, you were supposed to go to physical therapy to rehabilitate your muscles that weakened during the whole ordeal. Your father, and Nick Fury, also made you go to therapy before you were cleared to go back to any mission.
Since you were not allowed to train outside rehab, and you were not allowed to go to missions, most of your days were spent at the library, the couch, or with Morgan who would come to visit after school most of the time.
You would also spend it with Bucky.
The two of you had been inseparable since you left the hospital but eventually Bucky was cleared to return to missions after some therapy sessions, which left you alone when the rest of team left without you. Today was one of those days.
You sighed at the boredom you felt. If it had been up to you, you would have already been back on missions and working. However, you knew better than to contradict Tony and Fury.
You stand up from your seat, the slowly slipping off from your legs. You walked through the wooden floors towards an old record player that sat atop a small desk on the library. You could've asked F.R.I.D.A.Y. to play music but something about the scratchiness of the old sound brought you comfort.
Carefully, you analyzed the collection of vinyl records and selected one of old blues. Bucky would like this one, you thought to yourself as you carefully placed it in the record player.
The silence was slowly filled with the tune as you hummed along to the song. You started to sway to the song when you felt a strong pair of hands hug you from behind.
You spun around, eyes widening in surprise. A smile quickly formed in your face when you recognized Bucky in front of you.
"You're back already?" You exclaimed, "I thought you wouldn't be back for days."
The excitement within you could not be contained and it was so contagious it had Bucky smiling even though he was worn down from the mission.
"We finished early," he said spinning you around, "and it seems like I got here just in time to dance with my favourite person."
He closed the gap between the two and you wrapped your arms behind his neck. Your foreheads touching each other.
You stood there breathing each other in, taking as much as you could of each other's presence. The mission taught you both that one does not have the luxury of wasting time because of fear and the "what if's." You both took the leap and now nobody could take away the love you had for each other.
"I love you," he softly whispered, lips ghosting yours.
You tightened the embrance and kissed him in response. You poured all of your feelings into that kiss as if it were the last.
"I love you too," you said, just in case he didn't know.
But he did, he knew and you knew and now the entire world knew the love you had that neither of you would let go of anytime soon.

A Long Mission- Part 2
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X GenderNeutral!Reader
Word count: 1,037 words
Summary: The mission goes awfully wrong. You’re also Tony’s child in this fic.
Warnings: Near death experience, death, blood, lots of angst, swearing, major character death(?).
Author’s note: Hello my friends! Thank you for your patience! This one goes out specifically to @fionanovasleftnut and @scar-xo who asked for a second part. Not only are you getting a second part, but you will get as many as it takes for me to finish this story lol!
Tumblr media
I must find them, Bucky kept repeating himself. The bullets flew aimlessly through the air and the chaos grew by the second. He had thrown a bomb earlier expecting you to hear it and follow it.
He heard the all-familiar sound of Tony’s suits blasting through the enemies, alleviating the pressure from his shoulders. His breath was heavy, and a knot formed on his chest. He counted the painful seconds it took to see you.
Bucky wanted to run and search for you, but he couldn’t move from the spot or you wouldn’t find him. He turned around as one of Tony’s suits cleared the fog from the air. You were standing there, disheveled and with bruises but alive.
He feels as though he can finally breath again with every step that you take running towards him. He smiles widely at you as the worry faded away. You were a great agent and could no doubt defend yourself, but something in Bucky wanted to protect you and always keep you safe.
You were with him now; he could finally protect you.
At least that’s what he thought.
A shadow moving behind you catches his eye, and it doesn’t take him long to process what it is.
“Y/N watch out!” he yells frantically, ripping his throat out as he lifts his weapon to the man behind you.
But he is too late.
He doesn’t see the bullet piercing through your body as he is making sure to eliminate the man that had just harmed the most important person in his life. He stares at your wide eyes and runs towards you.
You’re kneeling on the floor, clutching your stomach. Bucky runs towards you and kneels on the floor. He doesn’t care that he just threw all his weight on his knees, possibly harming himself.
“Hey, sweetheart” he calls out to you, but you don’t reply. His heart is close to bursting from his chest. He’s panting and trembling as he sees your pale form slowly turn limp in his arms.
“Sweetheart, look at me” he says placing his hand on your face to make you look at him. “It’s going to be ok. I am here now sweetheart; I will protect you.”
He lays you down softly on the grass and lifts your shirt to check the wound. Bucky knows it’s bad, he doesn’t fully know the damage yet, but the amount of blood you’re losing is enough to make his mouth go dry.
He rips part of his shirt to hold pressure down the wound. His once calculating mind, now panicking at the thought of losing you. Bucky is so focused on his thoughts that he doesn’t hear you speak.
“Wh- what?” Bucky stops from tending to your wound and turns to look at you.
“Cloud,” your lips feel dry, and your tongue feels heavy on your mouth. “Cloud looks like a dog,” you finally breathed out.
A cold shiver runs down Bucky’s spine. “Shit, Tony they shot them. Where the hell are you?” he yells to his earpiece.
“We are here” Tony responds, “keep them alive Barnes.” Your dad pleads, hoping that he gets there in time to save you.
You place your hand on top of Bucky’s who’s applying pressure to the wound. He has tears in his eyes and is breathing heavily.
“Shit, shit, shit,” he mumbles. His heart, heavy on his throat as he realizes all the important things, he never said to you. All the times he could have confessed his love for you, yet he was too afraid to say it.
Now you were here, limp in his arms as he feels your life fade away. If he could trade places he would in a heartbeat.
“It’s ok,” you whisper and give him a soft, reassuring smile. “You’ll be ok, they’re here.”
His heart sinks. It should be him comforting you, not the other way around. Always selfless and caring, one of the many qualities he loved about you.
“Stay with me sweetheart, please don’t go.” He places his forehead against yours, gives a soft tender kiss and whispers “I need you with me, I love you Y/N.”
He felt your body grow heavier on his arms and turned to look at you. His eyes widened at the sight of your closed eyes.
“No, no, no” he screams while shaking you. “Y/N please, wake up” He sobs over your limp body. It almost looks as if you were sleeping peacefully. If it weren’t for the pool of blood under you.
“No baby, I need you” he hugs you tightly to his chest.
The team rushes in, aiding Tony’s suits with the enemies. They see Bucky’s shaking form and they come to a halt.
All but Tony who sprints even faster towards the two of you.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y, scan for vital signs” he says. Tony, always the calculating one. All calm and controlled on the outside but he could feel the weight on his chest heavier by the seconds. He couldn’t lose his child.
“There is a heartbeat” F.R.I.D.A.Y answers, “but the window for medical attention is short. You need to get them help, now.”
“Come on Barnes,” Tony nudges Bucky on the shoulder, beckoning him to the Quinjet.
He lifts you carefully in his arms and rushes behind Tony. The rest of the team Nat, Wanda, Steve, and Peter rush behind you covering you from any leftover enemies.
Dr. Cho is waiting inside next to the Vita-Ray chamber that was installed for emergencies. “You need to place them inside the chamber now” she says to Bucky who was reluctant to let you go.
He softly lays you down the chamber as Dr. Cho proceeds with the treatment and seals you in. Bucky’s heart aches as he sees your sleeping form. The rest of the trip he sits next to you with a hand on top of the glass encasing, Tony silently on his right.
The rest of team leaves them alone. They knew they were each silently blaming themselves for your dire state, but they knew better than to change their mind. The only one that was able to get through to them was you.
For this and many reasons more, they were all silently praying you would live.

Just A Business Deal (Pt. 4)
College AU
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader

You laid in your bed smiling with the leftover excitement of the day. You toy with the hem of your shirt as you reminisce the events of today.
After you and Bucky got married, you decided to celeberate by eating tacos at your local taquería. The lady that always served you smiled with excitement when she saw the rings on your fingers.
"Finally!" she exclaimed and offered you a free meal.
After she left, the both of you turned to each other and laughed at the silliness of the comment.
"Can you imagine?" Bucky asked, mouth filled with food. "You and I actually getting married?"
You scrunch your face and playfully shoved his shoulder from across the booth.
"Oh please, you would be lucky to be married to me." You replied.
"Did you forget doll? I am married to you." He laughed and looked into your eyes.
You shook your head with a light smile on your face. A comfortable silence settled in between the two of you as you finished your food.
You decided that the next best thing that you could do to celebrate your "marriage" was to go bowling. Bucky drove you in his car and you guys sang your favorite songs at the top of your lungs. The windows were rolled down and you felt the nice breeze on your face.
You arrived at the place and settled into your bowling lane. You were about to type in your name on the screen when Bucky called out to you.
"Wait, hang on a sec. Close your eyes," he said grabbing you by the shoulders and moving you next to the screen.
"Buck what are you doing?" you giggled.
"Ok, open them!" He said proud of his little antic.
You laughed as you saw the names displayed now on the big screen.
Mr. y/l/n
Mx. Barnes
"Get ready to get crushed!" Bucky exclaimed while rolling up his sleeves.
He walked towards the bowling balls and carefully weighed each one until he found the perfectly balanced one. He sauntered towards the alley and concentrated on his move.
You took a second to appreciate Bucky's carefree attitude. You remembered the first years after the accident when he would hide his prosthetic arm. He would always wear long sleeves and gloves which he claimed were for "poor circulation" to whoever asked. It was nice to see him finally feeling confident in himself.
Your gaze scanned his form and marveled at how well the suit fits him. It has been years since you've seen him dressed up and you can admit he was a handsome guy. The person who ends up marrying him will be lucky, you thought to yourself.
Your snapped out of your thoughts as you heard the pins collide with each other and fall down, giving Bucky a perfect strike.
"Ha! Beat that," he pointed at you and sat down next to you.
You stood up and copied Bucky by carefully selecting the bowling ball you'd choose for the night.
You continued playing round after round. Somewhere along the fifth round one of you ordered beer and began drinking. Your precision decreased but the fun only seemed to increase.
You played until an employer had to kick you guys out. You felt sorry for the kid, he was a teenager and seemed obviously scared of Bucky. You smiled at the worker, apologized for the inconvenience and dragged Bucky by the arm.
The cool air of the night was refreshing to your face. You inhaled the fresh air and closed your eyes too engulfed in the moment to notice Bucky staring at you.
"So, Uber or Steve?" you asked with your eyes still closed.
"Uh, what?" Bucky was too busy looking at your peaceful face to hear what you asked.
"Neither one of us is in good shape to drive. So," you repeated turning towards Bucky. "Uber or Steve?"
"Oh, uh Uber" he replied pulling out his phone from his pocket. "Steve will definitely ask too many questions about us so, best to avoid" he said. His Brooklyn accent becoming thicker with the alcohol in him.
You simply nodded and placed your hands in your pockets for a little bit of warmth.
The two of you waited a couple minutes for the Uber and went home. It was already midnight by then and you two decided to turn in once you reached your place.
You were about to go in your room when Bucky grabbed you by the arm.
"Wait," he said turning you around.
You stared at him expectantly, noticing the closeness that you had. You could smell his scent of mint and a touch of alocohol on his breath.
"Goodnight doll," he said and kissed your forehead. He turned around and went into his room, locking the door behind him.
You stood in the doorway for a few second until you followed suit and went inside as well. You went into the shower, changed into your pajamas and carefully hung your "wedding" dress.
You stared at the wedding rings on your left hand. The light reflecting on the little gems that adorned the band. It was a beautiful ring, you were amazed at how well it suited your style. You stared at it for a second and then carefully removed it and placed it on your jewelry box. The color of the ring making a beautiful contrast with the red velvet that covered the box.
This is where you were, thinking about the day with a smile that could not be wiped from your face. It took a while but eventually the excitement faded and you fell asleep.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Life is about balance, the ying yang and what not. Which is why it makes sense for today to go horrible for you. One perfect day, one nightmare-ish day.
You woke up late since you forgot to chrage your phone the night before. Your class started in thirty minutes which only gave you enough time to quickly change and rush to your class. Your normal routine of showering and having breakfast flowing out the window.
You quickly changed into sweatpants and a hoodie you found laying on the floor. You grabbed your backpack and rushed towards the door.
"Wow easy there, where's the fire?" Bucky joked.
"I'm late for class which would not have happened if I had remembered to charge my phone but because someone decided to get us home late and drunk I forgot and the alarm didn't go off. I also have an exam right now which I didn't study because I was too busy getting married to you." You said grabbing your car keys and putting on your shoes.
"Hold up, what? You're saying this is my fault?" Bucky replied. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and furrowed his brow.
"Yes, I-uh. I don't know, maybe" you said and rushed out the door without a goodbye. You knew it wasn't his fault and he didn't deserve to be yelled at. You mentally cursed yourself and decided you will make it up to him by bringing home donuts for him.
You got into your car and rushed out of the house. To your dismay, it seemed as though everyone left the house at the same time because you were now stuck in traffic. You managed to get to campus with five minutes to spare. Your professor was the type to close the door and not let anyone in on exam days.
"Everyone made the effort to be here on time, it is not fair to distract the other students for your tardiness," he told the class on your first day.
You managed to get to class on time. You were panting and sweaty from the run. A slight red tinted your cheeks when the professor stopped mid-sentence and waited for you to sit down.
You finished the exam- which you struggled with the entire time- and were fighting a terrible headache from the "wedding" hangover.
You had two classes that day but, having an essay due the next day, you decided to stay on campus to finish your assignment. That is when you realized you left your laptop at home and couldn't do your essay as you planned.
Defeated, you walk towards the cofee shop to order your favorite drink in hopes of cheering you up. The shop was almost empty except for the lady at the register, a few students on their computers and three people on the line with you.
After the girl in front of you ordered, you walked towards the cashier.
"Hi!" you say faking a cheer "can I please get a hazelnut coffee with whipped cream?" you ask.
"Oh, I'm sorry," she said with a pitying tone "we're out of hazelnut and whipped cream."
With a sigh you settled for a plain coffee. You opened your backpack to look for your wallet but you couldn't find it. You opened every pocket and moved every item you had, you even checked the inside of your phone case just in case you had money there but to no avail. You shot the lady- who was looking between you and the man behind you expectantly- an embarrassed look.
"I'm sorry," you said to both the lady and the guy behind you. "I must've forgotten my wallet at home."
"Here, it's ok. This one's on me." The man behind you stretched his credit card to the lady who happily took it. He placed his order as well.
"Thank you, really but I can't have you do that," you told him hurriedly. He reminded you a little bit of Steve. He was blonde with blue eyes but different than Steve's caring eyes or Bucky's beautiful ones. The man had a look which you couldn't place just yet but he seemed caring as well, or at least that's what you thought.
"It's ok, it seems like you're having a rough day today. It's the least I can do. Besides," he continued flashing you a smile, "I can't have someone as pretty as you in distress."
You opened your mouth to respond but the lady interrupted you.
"Here you go!" The lady gave you both your drinks and bid you a good day.
"I promise, I'll pay you back." You told him, thankful for the stranger in front of you.
"You can sit down with me and I'll consider it even." He told you.
You thought about it for a second and realized there was no harm in that. He picked a booth and you both sat down.
"So what's your name?" he asked.
"I'm y/n" you told him after taking a sip of your coffee. "And you?"
"I'm John, John Walker."

A Long Mission- Part 1
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X GenderNeutral!Reader
Word count: 1,107 words
Summary: The mission goes awfully wrong. You’re also Tony’s child in this fic.
Warnings: Near death experience, death, blood, some angst, swearing, major character death(?).
Author’s note: Hello my friends! I am so sorry I haven’t been able to post on my series lately but here is a one shot for you guys in the meantime!
Tumblr media
This is not supposed to be happening.
Tony, your father, said the mission was going to be easy. “Only you and Barnes this time,” he said while he gave you two the files. It was supposed to be a simple recon mission. Go there, wait a few days, gather as much intel as you could and then come back.
Nobody knew it was a setup. How could you? You all have blindly trusted your agents who, unbeknownst to you, worked for Hydra. And Hydra wanted Bucky back.
No, they wanted The Winter Soldier and they would do anything to get him back.
Your heart is pounding heavy on your chest. Your eyes scanning frantically at the woods surrounding you. The thickness of the trees did not allow for any light to pierce through and, with the mist that began to form, it was practically impossible to see your surroundings.
“Dad,” you yell through the comms. “Dad, we need backup now!” Your voice crack doesn’t go unnoticed.
You can’t see Bucky but you can hear him through the comms. He’s talking to Tony but your pounding heartbeat in your ears does not let you, or was it your heavy breathing?
Bullets fly through the air from all directions. You need to find cover now or one of those bullets would surely find you.
You stumble through the mist, lowering your body, crouching to the ground. You reach a tree and lean against it. The bullets now sounding slightly further away.
“Bucky,” you whisper, “Bucky where are you? I can’t see shit.”
“I’m here sweetheart,” he speaks reassuringly. You can hear him struggling to speak, fighting with Hydra soldiers.
You kneel on the ground, eyes closed. You realize the only way you can make it out alive from this situation is if you’re calm and fighting your way through it.
You take a few deep breaths and unsheathing your katanas from their straps on your back, you stand up. You strained your hearing, listening to your surroundings.
You were going to fight your way through this, you would not let anyone take Bucky again. Not after he had finally started to heal from his time as The Winter Soldier. Not after you finally had him.
“I sent suits from the safe house, they should be there any minute,” you hear your dad through the comms. “The team is flying as well on the Quinjet, hold on as much as you can. I’ll be there soon peanut.”
That is when you realized how truly screwed you guys were. Your dad was always serious through the comms, never one to give in to the nicknames in front of the team. He was always caring at home when it was only you two, Pepper and Morgan.
“We’ll be okay dad,” you said. You weren’t sure if it was to reassure him or you.
You hear the rustling of leaves behind you, too heavy for them to be Bucky’s. Gripping the end of your katanas, you swiftly turn, eliminating the threat who had their weapon aimed at you.
“Bucky we need to find each other but I have nothing to signal with,” you say.
“I’m on it,” he replies.
You’re too busy scanning for Bucky to notice the man behind you.
He crosses an arm across your chest from behind and places a knife on your throat. You grab the hand with the knife, pulling it down. You step on his foot and elbow him on the face.
The man curses and stumbles back, allowing you to grab your katanas and turn around. It is over for him once you do so because in one swift motion the man was laying on the floor.
“ETA 10 minutes,” your dad says through the comms. You couldn’t see the suits but you could hear them blasting around you.
You’re walking closer towards the sound when you hear an explosion from your left. It didn’t sound too far away.
“That’s your signal sweetheart,” Bucky says through the comms.
“Ok Buck, I’m close. Stay right there,” is your reply.
You make your way through the field that is now covered by the fog of the explosion. Along the way you encounter a few Hydra agents but you swiftly eliminate them.
You are hurt and you are exhausted but you cannot let them take Bucky. Determined, you tretch through the woods. One of Tony’s suit clears the fog and mist from the air. You gather your surroundings and notice you’ve strayed from the woods and into a clear place. That is when you see him.
Your eyes fall into Bucky’s beautiful blue ones. You smile widely, warmth and piece engulfing you. You’ve made it, you found him amongst this chaos.
Bucky smiles back as you start running towards him but you’re too relieved to notice Bucky’s face falling.
He yells something at you, panic in his eyes. He raises his gun towards you but he is too late.
You notice it too late.
A searing pain hits you in the back and pierces your abdomen. You stop in your tracks, panting heavily. You feel the bullet from Bucky’s gun passing next to you and hitting the target behind you.
This is weird, you thought to yourself as your knees gave out from under you. I don’t feel any pain now.
You kneel on the floor, your bloody hand on your stomach. It is odd to see your blood, so red and watery on your fingers.
You feel a body kneeling next to you but you can’t tear your eyes away from your hand. You see the blood dripping into the grass tainting the fresh green.
Bucky places his hands on your face and turns you to look at him. His mouth is moving, his eyes are scanning through your body, but all you notice is the warmth from his flesh hand and the coolness from his metal one.
He places you down and lifts your shirt to check the wound. The sky has cleared and it’s now the brightest blue you have ever seen.
“Dog,” you whisper and lift a weak finger to the sky.
“Wh- what?” Bucky stops from tending to your wound and turns to look at you.
“Cloud,” your lips feel dry and your tongue feels heavy on your mouth. “Cloud looks like a dog,” you finally breathed out.
“Shit, Tony they shot them. Where the hell are you?” he yells to his earpiece.
The ground feels soft underneath you and the exhaustion begins to set in. You hear a soft rumble coming from the sky. The team had found you, Bucky was going to be safe.
You place your hand on top of Bucky’s who’s applying pressure to the wound. He has tears in his eyes and is breathing heavily.
“It’s ok,” you whisper and give him a soft, reassuring smile. “You’ll be ok, they’re here.”
You can’t hear Bucky’s reply as your eyelids begin to feel heavy.
The world faded away.
And darkness took over.

Low of the rollercoaster- One Shot
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader
Word count: 1, 166 words
Summary: You were having an awful time lately and Bucky goes to comfort you.
Warnings: It's a little bit sad because I've going through some stuff lately so it was my way of working that out lol. A little bit of fluff.
Tumblr media
You always said that life was like a rollercoaster. The ride was fun and exciting but it also contained high and low points. You often find yourself in the low points of it, however.
It had been a tough month. Although the missions have been succesful, you felt as though your performance was not. You tried but couldn't be the great Avenger you once were.
You increased the time you spent training. You would run in the morning with Steve, combat in the afternoons with either Nat or Bucky, and on occassion when Shang Chi was around, he'd teach you some martial arts. But no matter how much training you did, the time and effort that you put, you felt stuck.
You were mentally exhausted and alone.
You've never felt this alone before. You didn't want to share your problems with anyone becasue you felt like a burden. Everyone had bigger problems to deal with. It also didn't help that they've all been blwoing you off this weekend.
Those that lived in the compond with you were busy. Steve, Sam and Bucky went on a trip to visit Sam's sister. Wanda was always with Vision ever since he came back from his three-month mission. Your best friend Pietro was doing recon with Clint, and Peter said he "had homweork to do."
You craved some form of intimacy with someone. You craved friendship and companionship.
It was all too exhausting and Peter's text was your breaking point. You were in your room watching a movie by yourslef when you decided to text Peter if he wanted to grab lunch the next day but he blew you off.
You were in your bed, wrapped in your comforter. You read the message, replied with a dry "ok" and threw it to the couch across the room. Another rejection added to the list and you started crying.
Everything you felt and repressed this past month, you let it out. You hugged yourself ad you quietly sobbed, afraid anyone would listen. You felt as the knot in your throat released and you curled into a ball in your bed, the movie long forgotten.
You didn't hear the trio coming back or you would've composed yourself in time. A certain supersoldier heard the muffled sobs from where he was standing in the kitchen. Bucky excused himself and left Steve and Sam int he kitchen as he walked towards your room.
He could hear the cries getting louder as he approached you room and his heart began racing at the fear that something might've happened to you. He didn't bother knocking and barged in, assessing any danger in the room.
"Bucky!" you gasped, "what are you doing here early?" You wiped your tears and attempted to act normal.
Bucky closed the door behind him and walked towards the bed, sitting next to you.
"We fixed the boat a little earlier than we expected." He inspected your face, worry setting heavy on his face. You saw his brows furrow and braced yourself. You knew once he started asking, you would break down again.
"Do you want to talk about it or just want the company?" he asked grabbing your hand and rubbing his thumb soothly on it.
"Company please," you whispered. You were relieved that he could read your needs perfectly and didn't insist. Instead, he took off his boots and layed next to you. He extended his arm openly and you snuggled closely to his side.
Bucky wanted to ask you, of course, but he knew you'd tell him when you were ready. He rubbed soothing circles on your back and waited in silence until you got the courage to open up.
And you did.
You told him about how lonely you felt, how it seemed like everyone was blowing you off. You also told him about the extra training that you've been doing because you haven't felt as strong or as capable as the others.
Tears ran freely down your cheeks as you were explaining the source of your sadness but you also felt a sense of relief washing over you. It felt good to let it all out and to have someone listen to you.
Bucky hugged you and held you tightly to his chest, so tightly it felt like he was putting all the broken pieces back together. It pained him to see you like this and to know that it's been going for too long and he didn't realize.
"Listen doll, you are the best partner I've had, and that's counting Stevie." He searched your eyes with his beatiful blue ones and wiped the tears from your face. "I'm serious, you are so strong and amazing at everything you do. You are kind and brave and capable so don't ever think you're not. You know what Shang said the other day?" he raised an eyebrow at you.
You shook your head and softly whispered a "no."
"He said that you learned so fast and were improving so quickly. Remmeber that kick he taught you?" He sat down, holding your hands.
You nodded yes, also sitting up in your bed.
"Well, he said it took him three months to learn and you did it in a week! Now that, is amazing." He said smiling at you.
You looked down and let your shoulders drop. Wis words were not having the effect he was hoping on you.
"Doll please," he whispered, tilting your chin up. "You are the best person I know. You are so strong and you carry with so much I have no idea how you do it. I am so proud of you doll and it's ok if you don't feel like that for now because I know you will. In the meantime," he moved his hand to your cheek. "I will be proud enough for the two of us."
You leaned against his touch, warm and comforting. It grounded you to the present and you smiled at him.
"I will love you enough for the two of us" he whispered.
Your eyes widened at the confession. Sure, you've had a slight crush on Bucky since you met him. Well, more than a crush. you were head over heels for the man but you never thought he felt the same way about you.
Before Bucky could pull away, you placed one hand on top of his and the other on his cheek. You grazed your thumb against it and smiled looking into his eyes.
"I will love you enough for the two of us too," you whispered back.
He smiled at the realization that you too were in love with him and slowly leaned in. You softly closed your eyes and pressed you rlips to his. The kiss was soft and tender, and it filled you with warmth.
You knew the way you felt about yourself could only be fixed by you and only you, but it did help to know that you had someone by your side.

Just A Business Deal (Pt. 3)
College AU
Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader
Word count: 1, 562 words
Summary: You and Bucky make a business deal to get married for the benefits. More financial aid for college, sharing the apartment rent and keeping your mind off of a heartbreak, what could go wrong?
Warnings: It's all pretty innocent stuff actually. This is going to be looooong so beware.
Author's note: Hello! Thank you for the love, please be patient as my life is kinda hectic right now lol. Also, although this chapter is mild please DO NOT interact with this if you're not 18 years or older because future chapters might not be PG-13. Also please don't steal any of my work!! Thank you!
Tumblr media
"You said it yourself doll, it's just a business deal," Bucky told you concerninly casual.
"Are you sure about this? I mean none of us are about to finish college any time soon Buck. We'd have to be together for..." you trailed off, counting on your fingers.
Bucky looked at you with an adoring smile on his face. He found the way you counted adorable and even more so with the oversized t-shirt that you stole from Steve. He thought to himself that the friendship you guys had was the best in the world and you'd do the impossible for each other. He found himself lucky to have such a good best friend like you.
"Five years!" you exclaimed. "Bucky we'd have to be married for at least five years, are you absolutely sure?"
"I am, and like you said, it's just a business deal. We won't tell anyone, you'd just be my roomate and that's it. Nobody has to know y/n, it's just a paper, right?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.
You felt something you couldn't quite place. Was it that he kept referring this as a "business deal" and it felt unimportant marrying you? Or was it that he didn't want to tell anyone, as if he was embarrassed of you.
It didn't make sense for you to feel this way, or so you thought. You were the one who mentioned this as unimportant.
You shook the feeling off and said "well then, let's do it."
_____________________________________________________________
You pictured yourself marrying the love of your life on a beautiful wedding outfit. You pictured an outdoor venue, or even indoor if he wanted to. Your parents would be there and your best friend Wanda would be by your side as a maid of honour. You thought of Steve being the overprotective best friend who would be serious the entire time but take you out on a dance and tell you how happy he was of you.
You also pictured the afterparty, loud and full of happiness. The list of guests would grow as the years went by and you met knew people. Wanda with her boyfriend Vision, and her brother Pietro. Nat who was your freshman year roomate, and her best friend Clint. You'd also invite sweet Bruce and his friend Thor. You chuckle when you remember when he tried to set you two up. You thought of Thor's quiet brother, Loki. You grew fond of him and understood his story as you too had been overshadowed by your older sister. Undoubtedly, Bucky and Steve would be there by your side.
While you couldn't get your dream wedding, at least you had the prescence of the tall dark haired man. You counted that as a small victory.
He stood at the doorway with his car keys in hand.
"The appointment is in an hour but I think we should be there earlier" he said while picking his suit jacket from the chair.
"Ok, I'll be done in a few," you said while fixing yourself. Although it wasn't real, it didn't mean you would go with a hoodie to the courthouse.
"Do you have everything?" you asked, grabbing the yellow manila folder on the table. You checked that all the papers inside where there including the marriage license.
Bucky looked around making sure he had everything he needed for the courthouse. If the two of you missed the appointment, you would have to wait four more months and by then another semester would be upon you.
You looked at yourself in the living room mirror, surprised by the person staring back at you. It has been a long time since you had an excuse to dress up. You can count on one hand the amount of times Mark took you out the last year you were together. On your three-year anniversary, and your birthday.
You sigh as you recalled the first year when you started dating. He would take you out at least twice a month on cute dates. You didn't need for him to spend any money on you, in fact, the date that you loved the most was when he took you stargazing. You remember the feel of the grass underneath you as he pointed to the constellations and mentioned the ones he knew.
A frown formed on your face as you realize how much your relationship deteriorated after the two years. Mark grew distant and he stopped caring. He'd have a short-temper and you guys would fight on almost every occassion.
Bucky saw the shift in your face. He knew what you were thinking about, rather who you were thinking about. It frustrated and angered him. Mark was lucky Bucky was accompanied by Steve and Sam when he went to pick you up the day you called for his help.
He never liked Mark but he tolerated him for you. That day, his love for your was greater than his hatred for him. He saw straight through the brave facade and saw how broken down you really were. He hated that Mark still had an effect on you and that he hurt you that deeply.
He shook off his feelings and walked up to you with a charming smile.
"Damn doll, who's the lucky fella?" he asked cheekily.
You looked at him through the mirror and cracked a smile. You playfully shoved his shoulder and told him to shut up.
"You don't look so bad youself," you eyed him. He had a dark three-piece suit on that brought out the blue on his eyes. It was one of the few things he had left from his life with his parents. His father would always want for him to look sharp on every occassion. For the first time in your life, you find yourself thanking the man.
Bucky extended his elbow and you took it. You both walked out the door and straight to the courthouse.
You got there a bit early for the appointment. You two sat down outside the court. It was quiet and you both were nervous but too shy to admit it to the other.
Bucky's knee was bouncing up and down while you were twirling the ringer on your finger. Bucky thought that in order to make it look real, he had to give you an engagement ring which he decided to give to you right before entering the courthouse. This made you nervous as it made it all too real.
Bucky turned to look at you and placed a hand on your leg. He raised his eyebrows at you and with only his eyes he asked "are you okay?"
You nodded at him taking deep breaths. You patted his hand but instead of removing it, you decided to leave it there.
He held your hand tighlty, reassuringly.
"Mr. Barnes and Mx. y/l/n?" a short lady yelled. She had crazy red hair and blue glasses. She seemed around your same age and eyed Bucky upside down completely ignoring your prescence. It was obvious that she was underssing him with her eyes.
You grabbed Bucky's right hand with your left, and your other hand went to grasp at his arm.
"Yes?" you asked sweetly at the lady who seemed annoyed that you stopped her daydreaming. Bucky looked at you slightly surprised at the display of affection and then at the lady. He smiled at the sight of you jealous. He found it adorable.
The lady cleared her throat and checked the paper in her hadn. "The judge is ready for you" her eyes widened when she saw the marriage license in the file.
"Thank you," said Bucky as he led you inside the courtroom. You grinned at the lady as you passed by.
The ceremony was short, a total of fifteen minutes. You both said "I do" and signed the marriage certificate. Your hands were still shaking and you almost dropped the rings but overall it was a success.
"You may kiss the bride" said the judge. She smiled at the both of you relishing on young love.
Bucky and you shared a look. It was an obvious aspect of the wedding yet you two completely forgot to talk about it.
Feeling on the spot Bucky leaned in to kiss you. You leaned in as well and gave him a quick peck in the lips. You pulled back and smiled at the judge who seemed satisfied with the kiss.
You were so preoccupied with the judge believing the kiss that you missed Bucky's confused and hurt look.
You both walked out of the courthouse holding hands and relishing on the fact that you got married. Bucky shook of the feeling from earlier and instead smiled as he saw you in white next to him.
"Well Mx. Barnes," he said, "how would you like to celebrate?" He tugged at your hands still connected.
"What do you have in mind Mr. y/l/n?" you tugged back.
"Tacos?" he asked giving you a bright smile. If you could freeze a moment it would be this one. A nice fall evening, warm weather and Bucky happy next to you.
"Tacos it is" you smiled back.
You thought to yourself that if it were anyone else, this business deal would not work. You thanked whoever was listening that Bucky was in your life and you were in his.

Just A Business Deal- (Pt. 2.2) How you met the boys.

Pairing: Bucky Barnes X Reader
Word count:

Summary: This is a little snapshot of how you guys met.

You stared at the picture in your room of you, Bucky and Steve laughing. You smiled at the fond memories that came with the picture and recalled the day you guys met.
You, Bucky and Steve met in highschool, first year to be exact. The boys had been childhood friends and even though their families were the complete opposite of each other, they were the closest friends the world has ever seen.
You remember the day with such clarity but not for the happiest reasons.
Your family had moved to the other side of the country, Brooklyn, NY. You had to sell or give away most of your childhood belongings since you couldn't bring them with you. You had to say goodbye to your family and friends and venture to a whole new world.
It was the start of the year and you felt completely alone. You tried to look over the school map the night before class but you still managed to get lost.
It had been a stressful day and you've kept all your emotions bottled up; sooner or later they had to come out. You were late to school because you got lost on your way to the bus stop, then you couldn't find your classes. During lunch period you sat by yourself in the cafeteria, head down staring at your food.
You were a little dorky looking in highschool. You were still finding yourslef and figuring what worked for you in terms of hairstyles and outfits. Needless to say, you did not know how to match anything correctly and ended up looking "like a safety box" like your mom said since "nobody could find the combination."
You didn't finish your lunch since the sadness took your hunger away. Picking up the tray with the leftover food, you stood up to go to your next class. You weren't looking when an upper classmen put his foot in front of you and made you trip on purpose.
The leftover milk spilled all over your shirt and you fell with a loud thud. The entire cafeteria was now laughing at you and the student, who you later learned was named Rumlow, said: "Maybe you should get some glasses, nerd."
You felt all the emotions ready to burst out. You wanted to cry, yell, or punch something and let it all out. Your mind went blank and you let your emotions run over. You slowly stood up and locked eyes with Rumlow.
"What the fuck did you just say?" you asked him, fists balling up on your sides.
Rumlow turned around surprised at the back talk but then composed himself.
"I said, maybe you should get some glasses, nerd. While you're at it why don't you get some new clothes 'cause you stink like milk, cow." He turned around and laughed with the rest of his friends.
Oh that's it, you thought to yourself. You ran to the boy in front of you and your fist connected with his jaw. Such was the strength from your pent up anger that he fell from the seat.
The cafeteria was quiet now and everyone froze. Nobody expected the quiet student from the corner to fight back. You walked towards Rumlow, ready to keep throwing punches and release all the anger within you, when you felt a pair of hands grabbing you.
You turned to look at the two young boys holding you back. One was skinny and short with blonde hair while the other was taller than both of you and had dark hair. You looked at the blue eyes of the skinny boy and found within them an understanding feeling. You would later learn that before Bucky, Rumlow would also bully Steve.
You were sent to the principal who was aware of Rumlow's problematic behavior so she let you go home with a warning and one day detention. As you left the principal's office, you noticed the two boys were waiting for you.
"What'd she say?" the tall one asked.
"Um, one day detention and to not do it again, no matter how much he taunts me," you replied.
"Let me guess, she also said to take the high road" answered the blonde one.
"Yeah, how did you know?" you asked him.
"Let's put it this way, Bucky and her are on first name basis already." He joked pointing at the tall one who simply smirked proudly.
"What's your name?" the tall one asked.
"I'm y/n, y/n y/l" you replied shyly to the new people who took an interest on you.
"Well, y/n, y/n y/l, I'm James but only my friends call me Bucky." He paused for a second, thinking to himself. "Anyone who can punch Rumlow like that can be my friend any day so you can call me Bucky," he finished with a smile.
"And I'm Steve Rogers, pleased to met you," he said while extending his hand to greet you.
You smiled to yourself as you remember the day you and the boys met. Truth been told, you guys have had each other's back since the very first day of your friendship.
You put the picture down and sigh asking to no one in particular if the fake marriage would be a good idea.

When you were young, you'd picture what your wedding might look like. Mostly everyone does. You'd have your best friend by your side, and your cousin as a bridesmaid. You even promised yourself you'd find an outfit that would suit them. You picture your wedding dress, which varied depending on your style at the time.
It would be an outdoor wedding, during spring when it's nice and warm and the flowers are blooming. You'd get married surrounded by plants and trees, nothing but life surrounding you in your new beginning. You wondered which family member would be there but you knew you would have your parents with you.
You also pictured your spouse; just like the outfit situation this one also varied according to your taste. Being the hopeless romantic that you were, you would picture all of your crushes. At thirteen it was Jamie Deen, the tall skinny kid who would always share his lunch with you. At sixteen Liz Valentine who had the most charming smile ever. Then you got to college and pictured Mark standing there with you.
No matter what age you were, however, you always pictured marrying the love of your life, your soulmate. This dream vanished once you caught Mark cheating on you, which made it that much easier to see the marriage idea now as just a business deal.
"So, what do you say Buck?" you asked, inching closer to the brown-haired man in front of you. His eyes, once shining blue orbs now clouded with worries and stress.
"I don't know, doll," he sighed and pulled his hands away. He too had thought of his wedding, marrying the love of his life, the girl who would be his rock for the rest of his life. The difference between Bucky and you is that he still believed in love.
"I just thought it would be a valid option Buck, we both are drowning in debt and spending less money in tuition would help. At least consider me moving in." You stood up and grabbed your backpack from the counter. You let Bucky know you had to do homework and went into Steve's old room which was now occupied by you.
He stared at the piled up bills and roughly estimated how indebted he was. It was moments like these where he came close to regretting choosing his own path.
He let his mind wonder to the "What if?" of his life had he chosen to work with his dad at the company. His dad worked closely with the multimillionaire, Howard Stark. Iit wasn't that hard to picture what his life could've been, all he had to do was see Howard's son, Tony. He had a frivolous life, travelled anywhere whenever he wanted and spent most of his time inventing new technology. Bucky liked technology, but he had such passion for history. He knew that while he could be living a comfortable life, he would not be as happy as Tony was in that field.
He sighed and stood up from the chair. It was worth a shot, he had one more year left of his Bachelor's degree and would only take a few more for his Masters.
Bucky's mind wandered to you and how hard you've been working to get your own degree as well. Since you were younger than him, you had two more years of college and he'd heard you talk about reaching a doctorate so he knew you had years down the road.
He said he was thinking logically, it would be a perfect business.
"It would only be for financial aid," he murmured to himself. The words felt weird in his mouth.
He looked at the framed picture in the living room of you, Steve and Bucky, and he didn't know if he disagreed with the idea of a fake marriage, or fake marrying you. You were one of his best friends.
Bucky would be lying to himself if he said there were no feelings towards you. You, Bucky and Steve had known each other since highschool and later on Sam joined in college. You all complemented each other in different ways and it worked the way it was. Would the dynamic of the group change if he went through with this?
Even though Steve was his best friend, there were things that he only felt comfortable sharing with you. He'd opened up to you about his metal arm, a prosthetic that was a result from a motorcycle accident. Steve knew about his family problems but Bucky didn't allow him in fully like he did with you. Bucky saw you guys as family and was afraid of jeopardizing it after all, you were the only family he had left.
You were laying in the bed reading a book for your philosophy class. With covering extra shifts at work this week, you were slightly behind your class and you were beginning to stress a little.
It has been a while since you felt like yourself. You had everything organized so perfectly and life felt like it was running smoothly. EVer since Mark, it felt like you were losing control of everything. No matter how hard you tried to grasp onto stuff, it all came apart on your hands.
You put the book down and groaned in frustration; you would not get any reading done today. You looked around the room and felt an emptiness on your chest. This was not your room, and this was not your house.
Steve had left some things that he wouldn't need in his new home with Peggy. He loved to collect antiques and he left most of the furniture in the house. There was an oak desk under the window with traces of charcoal and paint from Steve's art. He also left some of his gym equipment until he and Peggy had settled in and he could make room for his weights. From the color of the walls to the little dents in the floor where he always used to do push-ups, this was Steve's room and not yours.
You regretted suggesting marriage and moving in, it was a rash decision that you made without thinking of Bucky. It was so easy for you to detach from the idea of marriage because of your broken heartedness but that didn't mean Bucky could do it too. You were also afraid this could ruin you and Bucky's relationship or blur the lines between friends and lovers.
You were going to tell Bucky it was a terrible idea and to simply ignore you. You could move in with your friend Wanda and he could list out a roommate's add on craigslist. There were other solutions besides a hasty marriage.
You stood up from the bed with determination and turned towards the door. You froze in place as you saw Bucky already in the doorway.
"Hey doll, can I come in?" He asked. He had been there a few seconds simply looking at you. He found it adorable the way your brows furrowed in concentration and the little wrinkle that formed in your forehead.
"Sure Buck, what's up?" you said nervously, sitting down again on the bed and motioning for him to join you.
He walked across the room and sat down at the end of your bed.
"I was thinking about the marriage thing," he said slowly.
"Listen Bucky, I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to-"
"Let's do it" he interrupted.
You stared at him with your mouth slightly opened. Your heart began to race and you could not form a single thought at the moment.
"Let's get married, doll."

It has been a month since you've discovered your fiancé in bed with your classmate. The image still comes easily to mind whenever you rememebr the betrayal.
Your professor had dismissed class early that day since it was Friday, and you skipped going to the gym after to enjoy more time with your fiancé, Mark. You ordered takeout and picked it up on your way home from campus to surprise him with a last-minute movie date like old times.
You juggled your keys and the takeout with one hand as you opened the door to your shared apartment. With the excitement of spending more time with Mark, you didn't notice the unfamiliar purse laying on the table. You set everything in the counter and walked into your room expecting Mark to be asleep.
He was quite awake when you walked in through the door. You saw the familiar red hair of the girl that sat next to you in class and well, the rest was a blur.
"Hey y/n, I made us some food," your friend Bucly interrupted your thoughts.
"I'm okay Bucky, thanks." You turned from the TV and offered him a weak smile.
He noticed the shift in your face and walked over to the couch where you were sitting. He moved some of the green pillows and turned to face you with a reassuring smile. He waited until you felt comfortable to share what was on your mind.
When you saw Mark your whole world was crumbling down your feet. He owned the apartment so you knew you could not stay there anymore, besides, everything would be but a painful memory of what he did. You called Bucky and told him you needed his help in moving out. Ten minutes later he came with the help of his friends Steve and Sam, and helped load all of your belongings into the truck. Since you couldn't afford rent anywhere else by yourself, and it was too late into the semester to apply for housing, Bucky offered his place at least until the semester was over.
"Everytime I think I'm past this, there's something that reminds me of what happened. It's like the universe doesn't want me to forget Buck," you whined turning to him. "I mean, I was fine and I switched the channel and his favorite movie was on."
"Hang on, his favorite movie was 'The Last Aribender'? You mean to tell me the guy actually liked the movie. Wait y/n please don't tell me he found that better than the show." Bucky mocked you trying to uplift your spirits or at least get a smile from you.
You snatched the remote away from his hand and switched channels to the TV show you were watching.
"That is not the pint Buck, the point is the universe won't let me move on!" You pulled the blanket closer to you and curled into a ball in the couch.
Bucky chuckled at the sight of his friend hiding behind the blanket. "You gotta admit it's a terrible movie doll," he said laughing.
His heart warmed at the muffled sound of your chuckles underneath the blanket.
"It is pretty bad," you peeked your head out and looked at him. Bucky always knew how to make you laugh and you'd be lying to yourself if you said you could live without him. He was your bestfriend and your rock.
You two had been there for each other through so many heartbreaks and miseries. You were there when Susy Fieldman broke his heart when she said no to being Bucky's prom date. He was there when your favorite band broke up just as you were able to save up money to buy tickets for their next tour.
And you had been there through the more serious stuff too. Although it didn't seem like it, Bucky came from a wealthy family but they cut him off at 18 when he decided to go to college for a History major as opposed to business like his father wanted. You were lucky your parents supported you to pursue the career you wanted but college was expensive and they couldn't afford it all themseleves either.
That summer after graduation you took on two jobs waitressing and Bucky did too. That was the first time he had to work but with your help, he managed to learn quickly.
Regardless of both your situations, financial aid was not a big help. They thought that because you had two parents that worked, they could afford your four-year college tuition, not taking into consideration the other expenses they had. And for Bucky, whenever they heard the last name "Barnes" they knew that meant money and his financial aid was denied.
It has been a tough three years but you two have made it work. He rented an apartment with Steve and you lived with Mark. Everything was working perfectly, until it didn't.
Steve got engaged to his highschool sweetheart Peggy, and moved out with her. And Mark, well you know what happened with Mark.
Later that night you came back from class and saw Bucky sitting down at the coffee table. He had a sombre look on his face and his hunched position let you know that he had been there for hours.
"What's wrong Buck?" you asked, placing your books at the table. You walked towards him and noticed the spreadsheet on his computer and the bills pilling up on the desk.
"Nothing doll, don't worry about it. How was class?" He asked while closing the computer and putting all the papers away.
"It was fun today, Professor Morello brought some artifacts from the musem" you replied.
Although Bucky was looking at you, you could tell his mind was far away. You pulled a chair next to him and sat down. You grabbed his hands and searched for his gaze.
"Talk to me Buck" you whispered.
Bucky sighed and dropped his shoulders. It pained you to see him this exhausted.
"I received some bills in the mail and I was working on the numbers and I-" he stopped and sighed "I don't know what to do. Since Steve left, the rent is all on me now plus this smester's tuition and the fact that they didn't give me any financial aid. On top of that, I have to pay for the car insurance and the mechanic from that jerk that hit me and broke my tailights."
He rubbed his hands on his head and sighed. "It's just- it's a lot y/n."
You rubbed his arm in comfort and sat down in silence taking in the predicament of your friend.
"You know," you started slowly. "I don't have a place to live" you said as he looked up at you.
"Doll I didn't mean-"
"Wait" you cut him off. "I mean, I could be your new roomate if you wanted me to. That way I could help with the rent too."
He started shaking his head. To him, he was the one who had to help you and he couldn't take money from you.
"Also, and this is going to sound absolutely crazy but I was talking to Peggy the other day and she mentioned the benefits that her and Steve are going to have once they get married." You paused and collected your thoughts for a second. You were about to suggest the craziest idea to your best friend but you were sure this could help you both in the long run.
Bucky was staring at you confused and lost as to what Steve and Peggy had to do with this.
"Peggy mentioned that one of the benefits is getting more financial aid because they'd be claiming dependants or something like that. I don't know."
"Doll what are you talking about?" He asked now utterly confused at the sight if you rambling.
"I'm saying, what if we get married?"
