been super excited about this fic. i've been writing it off and on since october, and only have to finish writing the last chapter. it's going to be nearly 35k words in total. i've already posted three chapters. updates will be mondays and thursdays if i don't get too busy. please check it out! the link to ao3 is below.

I’m obsessed with la douleur exquise, and I just have to ask what gave you the idea to write it? Did it just pop into your head one day? Dud someone say something? Were you watching/reading something?

It’s genuinely so good, and you write it so well.

first of all, holy shit, never gotten an ask about one of my stories before, so i am jumping off the walls rn, oh my god!!

secondly, thank you so, so, SO much! like, seriously this means so much to me that you like my story so much. it's been such a struggle to write. i've been working on it since october, but there was a period of about 4 months where i didnt touch it at all. i still have some of it left to complete, and i even wrote for it earlier today. i'm almost finished with the last chapter.

but, to actually answer your questions, i only just started watching Hannibal in july and finished the entire series in august. i then became completely hyperfixated on it. like, i have not had a new hyperfixation like this since 2019. it completely took over my life, and all i could was think about them.

so i think it was around this time that i started to get ideas for la douleur exquise. at first, it was just little scenes and scenarios that mainly involved Will going full feral. somehow, the setting became the bshci, and the feral Will scene was born. i remember when i got the idea to have the red lighting while Will was on a killing spree. all of those visuals were heavily inspired by songs by Apashe and 1nonly.

i actually played around with a lot of different ideas for it. originally, all of the patients were going to fight each other to the death, and Will was going to pose the bodies like the Ripper to tell the story of his love for the Ripper. i had some ideas of how Will would use the bshci kitchen for his kills. he also would've been the last one alive. but that was way too much work because i'd want to do a lot more detail with each kill and each corpse arrangement that i just did not have the patience for with this story.

i had no plans to write this as an actual story until i wrote Will's love confession to Hannibal (which actually isn't posted quite yet). i wrote it on my phone on a blank google doc when i was high and then reread it when i was sober and knew i had to write the fic. so, i crafted a narrative that allowed Will to go completely unhinged so i could have that one feral Will scene (i actually had the fic title "will on a killing spree as a treat" for the longest time). and that's usually how a lot of my fics are written; i'll get one scene or idea and then go from there.

usually romantic but i love writing a good gen fic

i want to say angst since i love reading and writing it, but i feel like most of my published fics are on the fluffy side.

A fic of yours you think is underrated?

jack of hearts or The Flame of Love. jack of hearts is an angsty fic centered around jack kline from supernatural. it's one of the few fics where my vision for it matched the end result. it barely got any attention since it's a gen fic about one of the lesser popular characters in supernatural. The Flame of Love is a legend's of tomorrow casefic i wrote back in high school. i researched the fuck out of that story to make it historically accurate and poured my heart and soul into giving mick rory some angsty background. this is such a niche story that it didn't get much attention either (plus i posted it on ff.net orginally).

What's the best summary you've come up with?

I've always struggled with summaries. I can never seem to write enough, or I write too much, so i honestly don't know what my best one would be. here's the one for my most popular fic You know I love, right?

Will and Hannibal have been dating for six months, and Will knows Hannibal is the Ripper, but he has no idea how to bring it up to him. The opportunity arises when Will walks in on Hannibal cooking someone, but how will Hannibal react to the intrusion?

What's the best title you've come up with?

Ecstasy of Saint Teresa. It's based on the statue with the same name depicting Saint Teresa experiencing divinity. It follows the theme of the fic of Hannibal kissing Will and experiencing divinity.

Do you read your own fics for fun?

no. when i read my own writing, all i can see are the flaws. i internally edit my own writing when i read my fics and end up feeling worse about myself afterwards.

Do you post WIPs or wait until you're finished writing to post?

i like to wait until i'm finished writing. most of my wips and abandoned works are unpublished and will remain that way.

One-shots or chaptered fic?

chaptered fic. there is something so rewarding about completing a longer writing project with an overarching story.

What are some of your favorite tropes to write?

angst with a happy ending, pining, whump, first kiss, secret relationships, and major character death

What are you favorite characters to write?

Dean and Castiel. Their characters and chemistry are unparalleled. I love writing about both of them. All of my fics with both of them practically wrote themselves.

Have you ever or would you ever write a fic in first person POV?

I have, and this is one of my favorite fics I've had a part of writing, and it's in first person.

Is there some headcanon you've included in more than one fic?

I've definitely leaned into Dean's alcoholism for extra angst in a lot of my Supernatural fics, but I guess the one headcanon that's true in a few of my older Arrowverse fics is Leonard Snart is alive.

What's the longest fic you've written?

The Haunting of Lockwood Estates (70k words) and Yet To Come (40k words). I co-wrote Lockwood Estates, but I wrote the entirety of Yet To Come by myself.

What's the shortest fic you've written?

Frost. it's 258 words.

What's the most personal fic you've ever written?

substance abuse. i wrote that fic during one of the lowest points in my entire life, and writing destiel fic was the only thing getting me through those days. i wrote all of this story in one weekend on my phone. i was so depressed i way laying in bed in the dark the entire time i wrote it. i eventually posted it on ao3 several months later.

What's the cringiest (affectionate) fic you've ever written?

Serial Killer. It's a collection of one-shots about Harley Quinn and the Joker based on a Lana Del Rey song. I can't believe I wrote it, but the joy and crazy amount of interaction on ff.net that story gave me is definitely one of the top ones. It is one of the reasons I kept writing. I still remember reading reviews in the hallway between classes.

What fic are you proudest of?

Yet To Come. this is the longest published fic i've written by myself. it took months of hard work during one of the worst periods of my life, and i somehow managed to complete it in a way i'm proud of. i really feel like i produced the best writing i could with the experience and conditions i had at the time. this is one of the few fics i wish more people would read. i still can't believe i've written it sometimes.

Writing advice from my uni teachers:

If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.

Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.

Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.

Before you write your novel, write a page of anything from your characters POV so you can get their voice right. Do this for every main character introduced.

I love Anakin as a character but I think Star Wars as a whole needs to be less forgiving of him and his actions and I think Rex is the perfect character to explore this idea.

Rex wants to save his brothers more than anything and we know that he fails and never recovers from the trauma. It was an impossible task but he fought so hard for it. The clones don’t become a thriving community after the Empire falls. Few live to remember their sacrifice or that they were even there to begin with. They’re wiped off the map and that’s it and Rex just has the live with it.

Imagine realistically how you would feel if you were him and you learned that a huge reason why the Empire was even allowed to rise in the first place is because of the man who you trusted, who was one of your closest friends for three years, who convinced you that he thought of you as a person unlike the rest of the galaxy. I wouldn’t ever be able to look past it, and I don’t think Rex would or should either.

Obi Wan considers Anakin metaphorically dead because it’s the only way to cope with the grief.

Ahsoka has a more complicated view of him because of the distance leaving the Jedi order put between them.

Luke is able to forgive him in the only way that is narratively compelling, because he sees him as his father and not as the monster everyone else does.

Leia never forgives him (nor should she) but grows to understand him more over time.

Padme uses her dying breath to vouch for him even if he doesn’t deserve it.

If Rex didn’t forgive Anakin, it would offer yet another perspective. He is someone who loved Anakin, but Anakin is a huge reason why his brothers are dead. Anakin is the one who used his brothers as the tools they had always been told they were to march on the Jedi temple and murder the Jedi, the only allies the Clones ever truly had. Everything that happens during the reign of the Empire, including whatever goes down in the Bad Batch finale, is part of a huge domino effect because of Anakin’s choices. It would be tragic to see their friendship end this way, but Rex’s entire life is rife with tragedy. Ahsoka is the only positive result of his friendship with Anakin left. They only have each other.

I want Rex to be angry at him. Anakin’s actions are abhorrent and to downplay them only does Anakin a disservice as a character and denies his agency. Yes, he’s a victim of Palpatine’s grooming. He is also the perpetrator of a literal reign of terror and there are few groups of people who are bigger victims of the Empire he helped create than the clones.
