Monthly Writer’s Prompt
This month’s prompt was
You Don’t Belong Here
Brendan gazed in awe at the pearly gates.  They were exactly as promised, shining, elegant, pure, a promise of peace and better things forever.  Behind the gates a lush, cozy green meadow stretched into the clouds, decorated with fluffy, frolicking bunnies.
The gates only came up to his knees.
The bunny with the halo at the lectern looked way up at him and said, “You don’t belong here.”
“I have to belong somewhere,” answered Brendan meekly.
Divinely patient, the bunny asked, “Where were you sent?”
Brendan shuffled his feet and admittedly, “I don’t know. I fell asleep and no one noticed and I missed my stop.  When they did notice, they threw me off.”
“Where?” prompted the bunny gently.
“A cold place.  Nothing but snow and ice.  Starvation and bleakness.”
The bunny sighed, and nodded.  “Harsh, but if that’s where you fit...”
“They threw me out,” mumbled Brendan, staring at his shoes.
“They don’t usually do that,” said the bunny, one floopy ear rising.
Brendan mumbled, “I ate the snow.  I guess you’re not supposed to.”
After a moment of silence, he bunny said, “Then they would have sent you somewhere else.”
Brendan nodded.  “The hot place.  You know.  Flames and pain.  It was awful.”
“But you’re not there,” prompted the bunny, sounding fascinated despite itself.
“I ate too much snow.  I threw up and put out the fire, and they kicked me out.”
“And then?” asked the bunny.
“There was all this fog, and guys talking philosophy, but...”
The bunny held up a stubby paw, cutting him off.  It sighed.  “All because you fell asleep at the most important moment in the afterlife.”
Brendan nodded glumly.  “Yes.”
The bunny with the halo looked back through the gates at the endless green, and the lumps of adorable fuzz, many curled up in silent contentment.
Beckoning with its paw, the bunny said, “Come on in.”

Something I think about a lot is the order in which the Strawhats joined, how that affects their relationships, and how we as a fandom perceive them (this is about the Romance Dawn trio and Sanuso, by the way).
Zoro and Nami were the first two to join Luffy. The Romance Dawn trio. Luffy's first mate and Luffy's navigator. Luffy's anchor and Luffy's compass. He would not know what to do if something happened to them. And of course he loves all the Strawhats. Of course he does. But there's just something about Zoro and Nami that it's personal and intimate in a different way. It's not that they're more important to Luffy, but they're their special people. Their main two. His specialest boy and his specialest girl. Whatever. The thing is that, if we consider this inside the East Blue crew, it just makes sense that Sanuso were so close at the start.
I'm always mentioning how much I miss pre-ts Sanuso because they had more scenes together, whether I referred to background silly scenes or important, character-driven ones. But it's quite literally because they were the only two left. Let me explain:
Sanji has this thing about not wanting to take up much space. Like, his whole personality is to serve and please others, and he isn't used to taking what he wants. Usopp is an anxious mess and he thinks he doesn't deserve to be where he is because he assumes the others are stronger and better than him. They just naturally feel out of place. And they're sharing a ship and an adventure with three other people that, apart from knowing each other before meeting them, they take up so much space in the world without a care. They're shamelessly taking what they want. Slicing people in two, stealing, becoming kings. That leaves Sanji and Usopp in a place of-- Not really loneliness, that's their family now and for once they feel like they belong somewhere but, y'know, they belong without feeling like they deserve it.
I think Sanuso works so well, too, because of their numbers. Usopp was the third one to join. Sanji the fourth. Usopp joined when the Romance Dawn trio was already a thing and he actually hesitated about joining them. And Sanji then met them when they were already like, an actual crew and not just some idiots (well, they are. But y'know, at least four people is better than just two). That thing about 'three's a crowd' and all that? Well, I think there's just some sort of barrier between the Romance Dawn trio and Sanji/Usopp. Not really because, again, they have their own bonds and it works in different ways and the East Blue crew is extremely intimate but please tell me you see what I mean. The Romance Dawn trio wouldn't be a thing if I wasn't right here.
So Sanji and Usopp bond for being the third and the fourth and I think the fact that they don't feel like they belong in the place they should feel at home the most just shows that they just... Feel like they don't belong anywhere. Except when they're together. They're alone together. I think that's why they work so well.

Comphet isn’t real and Marjan is straight. Stop trying to project your sick fantasies on people.
anon. i normally wouldn't post this, but i feel it needs to be said.
i desperately ask you to take a step back, maybe step away from the screen and think before sending rude anonymous messages to strangers. i am a person, with feelings and a life. i have done nothing to deserve constant attacks on me as a person and my writing and my headcanons.
you can have different headcanons than me. i respect people who are kind and interpret characters differently than me. i have friends on here who don't agree with this headcanon of mine and i disagree with some of theirs. we can exist in this space, have friends, and still disagree.
the thing with marjan is that there isn't anything in canon about her sexuality. she has one long-term "relationship" with a man she grew up with and felt an obligation to him, not actual romantic love for him. then random failed dates with men. then a relationship with joe that we know barely anything about. they went on a date at paul's house and then she brought him to the wedding, that's it. both times surrounded by other people. often lesbians with comphet will make all their dates with men in situations like that to avoid intimacy and actual connections with the man.
it's not wildly improbable for her to like women. there are multiple scenes that myself and multiple others interpret as having romantic chemistry with nancy.
comphet is a theory but also have personal experience with it. it was developed in the 1980s by poet Adrienne Rich in her article: Compulsory Heterosexuality and the Lesbian Existence. i was under the chokehold of compulsory heterosexuality for years. often, people with this feel pressured to date members of the opposite sex while having an attraction to those of the same sex and suppressing that.
i am allowed to have my own headcanons of these characters. i do acknowledge her faith and culture, but queer muslims do exist.
i highly recommend We Have Always Been Here: A Queer Muslim Memoir by Samra Habib. it was recommended to me by @lemonlyman-dotcom and a lovely book on this topic if anyone is interested in educating themselves on the topic.
a gentle reminder, that all fiction is fantasy, real people are behind these blogs, and to be kind.
i hope my rage didn't cloud my judgment here too much and i was able to get my message across.

The current situation is Israel is very confusing to a lot of people, and the word "colonizers" is thrown a lot in conversations, social media and protests. If you are not sure whether you can or should call Israel a colonial state, here is a handy guide divided by origin-country of the speaker:
The UK: OUR INDEPENDENCE IS LITERALLY FROM YOU!
Italy: THIS IS LITERALLY ALL YOUR FUCKING FAULT!
Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Greece, North Macedonia, Turkey, Mongolia: Every single one of you has conquered us at least once, so keep your mouth shut or start talking about reparations. (Yes, even the Mongols. Did you know that? I only found out a couple of years ago. Isn't that cool? I mean bad. Very bad...)
Every single country in the American continent + the surrounding islands, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, China, India, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia: LOL. Don't even fucking look at us.
Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Japan: Let me check a history book for a sec. Yeah, no.
Every other nation in the world: I don't know enough about your history to put you in another category, but no.
Liberia: Literally the only nation in the entire world that knows even half of what we’re going through. They’re not colonizers, and neither are we. Stop trying to force your Western terminology on our history.
North Korea: I think you need to deal with some other issues right now darling...
Hope this helps.

It's so cool that you can prevent your fans from parasocially falling in love with you by just being yourself. It's not hard at all. You don't even have to act off putting. Just act human and shatter the illusion that you're literally the same as the fictional characters you play, or worse, this untouchable idealized God. Bang, parasocial illusion gone. This shit is so easy hahaha.
