How to write essays fast
I've been writing a lot of papers, so that's what's on my mind.
So this mostly applies to your standard 5-paragraph paper, though it's fairly straightforward to adapt it to longer (or sometimes shorter) assignments.
One of the main things to note is that essays are VERY formulaic, so knowing the formula and being able to write down your ideas in a way that fit into the formula is probably the number one way to get stuff done fast. Because of that, most of what I’m covering is breaking down the formulas so they’re more accessable.
Also this got very long. If there’s anything you want me to expand on just let me know in the comments or send me an ask/DM and I’ll make another post that goes more in-depth about it.
Structure (I hate this step, so I’ve figured out how to do it very fast becuase it’s still important)
The first thing to consider is prewriting and structure. To start, there are two major paper structures I usually consider. The first goes
Introduction
Main point #1
Main point #2
Main point #3
Conclusion
This is good if you have a lot to say on the topic, or if it's something closer to a summary essay where there's not really an opposing side. In something where there are distinct sides, (or if you have less to say to support your own side), you may want something that looks like
Introduction
Main point #1
Main point #2
Why the other side is wrong
Conclusion
The "why the other side is wrong" side is involves thinking through the MOST credible arguments the other side might make, and methodically breaking them down to show how they don't work. The stronger the argument you choose, the more effective this is.
Since I personally hate prewriting with a passion, I usually do this step very fast and end up with an outline that looks like
Intro [insert thesis statement]
P1: [three word summary]
P2: [three word summary]
P3: [three word summary]
Conclusion
(thesis statement, introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion tips are all below the cut)
Usually, this is enough so when I look at my outline, I can see what I'm trying to focus on for each paragraph - and do so without straying from my main point.
For the prewriting, the main things to do are identify with basic structure of the two will serve your purposes better, and write a thesis statement that solidly supports your argument.
Thesis Statement
There are so many guides about creating thesis statements that are powerful, but I'm just going to quickly go over how to be fast about it.
The first thing to know is that a thesis statement is usually a complex sentence: it's your entire essay distilled down to a single line. The general formula I follow goes something like this:
"In their [media type] [name of specific piece], [creator's full name] explored/demonstrated/other verb [theme you're going to be arguing about] demonstrated/using/as evidenced/as shown by [example 1], [example 2], and [optional example 3]."
For example, a thesis statement that follows this format might go
“In his short film Job at Place, David Davidson explored the manifestations of human stupidity through the absurdity of the main character’s home, school, and office.”
Or, if you're writing a historical piece, it might look something like this:
"In [place/time period], [thing you're arguing was happening]: they had to/the conditions were such that/other thing to set up a list [example 1], [example 2], and [example 3]."
For example, a thesis statement that follows this format might go
“During the Tusken Invasion of 32nd century Tatooine, it was the lives of the children that were most affected, from their social development and connections with others to more personal struggles they didn’t yet have the tools to overcome.”
The examples you give are going to correlate to your paragraphs - example 1 is for body paragraph 1, and so on.
Introduction
I like to think of the introduction as a funnel that gets more and more specific.
First, write a broad statement that touches on whatever theme you’re referencing.
Job at Place is about human stupidity, so something like “while great minds have flourished throughout the ages, so have the not-so-great.”
Tatooine is about war, and about child development, so something like “children’s development has always been impacted by the state of the world around them.” or “war has many effects, many of which impact those not directly involved with the conflict.”
The idea is that it’s a broad statement that can almost be looked at like a universal truth.
Next, you’re going to go deeper - two sentences that narrow down the time and place you’re talking about specifically, and how that time and place fit into your universal statement.
The fourth sentence gets even more specific - introducing how the thesis sentence fits into your first three sentences.
Then the last line is your thesis statements.
Body Paragraphs
Your three main body paragraphs all follow the same formula. (I’ll get to the “why the other side is wrong” paragraph in a minute)
The first sentence you’re going to want is a topic sentence. For this, you’re going to want to look at the example you gave in your thesis statement that corresponds to this paragraph, and see how it relates to your central claim.
If we’re going with the Job at Place example from above, for the second paragraph, you might open with a line like:
“A striking characteristic of Davidson’s short film was the abnormality of the main character’s school, used to showcase exactly what happens when poor decisions get taken too far.”
Everything within the paragraph will then back up the claim you’re making in the topic sentence (which in turn is backing up your thesis).
For each paragraph, you’re probably going to want about three pieces of evidence, either in the form of direct quotes (plucking words directly from the source) or paraphrased quotes (summarizing what happened in your own words). The quote should be used to directly support your argument.
After each piece of evidence, you’re going to want about... twoish lines of analysis (this number can change as you need it to, but two lines is something solid to fall back to).
While analysis can take all kinds of forms, one pattern you can use if you’re stuck is
evidence sentence
what it means
how that meaning ties back into your main point
Following this pattern, a piece of analysis of Job at Place might look like:
“One of the first images of the private school is that it’s a tall spire with creaking stairs and loose floorboards. Despite this, the principal has eight personal cars parked outside on full display. While the first glimpse of the school might indicate that there is little money to care for the structural integrity, the notion is directly negated by the principal’s actions. By using these two images, Davidson demonstrates what can happen to the youth when those in power let greed carry them away.”
After you write your analysis, include some kind of transition phrase, and go onto the next piece of evidence.
The last line of your paragraph is going to transition into the next paragraph while also summing up the main point of what you talked about in the current one. (This line can also get moved down and tacked onto the beginning of the next paragraph, before the topic sentence, but I have found it tends to look less cohesive that way).
You might choose something like:
“While the school was a disaster in its own right, it wasn’t the only example of human folly.”
If you’re writing a “this is why the other side is wrong” you’re going to want to think about the MOST compelling arguments the other side could make. Take the top one (or two), and figure out ways to crack them apart using evidence from your source material.
In this case, your topic sentence might start off with something like
“While opponents might say [insert compelling counterargument], their reasoning breaks down when one takes into account the evidence.”
At this point, you’re going to follow the same formula as above. The main thing to keep in mind is that for the duration of this paragraph, your point is that the other side’s claim of X is wrong.
Conclusion!
If you know what you’re doing, this is actually the easiest part.
(wait, what??????)
The thing is, you NEVER want to introduce new ideas into your conclusion. Instead, you’re summarizing your main points.
The formula I follow per sentence is:
Thesis statement but reworded (you can change the sentence structure too)
Topic sentence for paragraph 2 or 3, but reworded (I’ll explain why you shouldn’t do the sentence for P1 in just a sec)
Topic sentence for paragraph 1 or 3 but reworded
Topic sentence for paragraph 1 or 2 but reworded
Wow sentence or question (i’ll get to this too)
The idea for the middle three sentences is you don’t want them to read as repetitive, so you’re going to mix up the order so it doesn’t match the order of the rest of the essay. This will help to keep it fresh.
The wow sentence is basically the last impression you get to make. I find it’s usually a good idea to go just a tad dramatic (it sounds dumb, but it has never failed me). If I can’t think of anything, a declarative statement on whatever major theme was being discussed throughout the essay usually does the trick.
Examples:
All of this shows that in the absence of friendships and platonic love, humanity will falter.
Fiction may seem far fetched now, but if the world falls into those same mistakes, it’s only a matter of time until it becomes a reality.
Art has existed for as long as humans have populated the earth; it’s not going away any time soon.
A lesson everyone must understand is the most powerful weapon isn’t anything physical or tangeable: it’s the ideas that exist in the minds of those who care.
(I told you they were going to be dramatic) A way I look at it is if you can’t imagine dropping the mic on the last line, it needs to be stronger (yes I found that plagiarized with not even a whisper of credit on Pinterest, but it works).
If you wrote a SOLID essay, consider ending with a question aimed at the reader (this will push your essay in the direction of either the positive or negative extreme: a strong essay will become stronger, a weak essay will become weaker). Questions can be a call to action or rhetorical as a means to drive home your final point. Becuase they’re more nuanced to the content of the essay, I don’t really have great examples to give you though (sorry).
Hopefully this is useful to at least some of you - good luck!

Hey Jack! I wanted to know what your thoughts are on Rheya. Was she really a villain to you? Were her motives justifiable? Was she a good villain? Did you think she deserved to have a redemption arc in chapter 16? What could have been written to make her have a better character story? Any thoughts at all about Rheya!
FOREWARNING: Anon... I accidentally wrote you a 2500 word essay. I shit you not this thing is 2,528 words long. So... I don’t know whether to say you’re welcome or I’m sorry. Just letting you know in advance.
ADD-ON POST-POSTING: I’m fully aware this is an app game. A three book series written with sexying vampires in mind. Where the medium is limited both size and content-wise, where you can’t go into much detail because they can only have so many panels in a chapter, etc. Still thinking what I think though. And if you get paid to create content professionally the least you can do for your own paycheck is go back and double-check your work.
Actually this ask came at a good time since I have to work on some character motivations for her for my series... and I always break down the in-canon versions before working on my own. So anon, let’s talk... are you a mind reader?
Kidding! mostly
So. Rheya.
I actually just finished my first replay of book 2 and at the moment I’ve only ever played book 3 the once. I played it as it was releasing so there were some memory gaps in some places and needed-refreshers in others. But on a whole I have similar thoughts about Rheya as I do Xenocrates, and you can find those thoughts here.
Overall she was a solid setup, good design and potential, and PB pretty much wasted her execution.
I wanna start with a genuine question to the fandom since I’ve never actually been able to ask this... but y’all like... totally saw the Bloodkeeper being related to her coming, right? Like I was so convinced of it that when it was revealed in some big dramatic point at the end I was like “yeah... they told us this...?” and it turns out they fuckin didn’t??? Like I could not understand the people who were like super into her sprite like yes she looks good but here I was thinking she was our ancestor from the get-go so I was... confused to say the least.
Not gonna lie when they started pushing in snippets of Rheya’s past trauma in book 2 (things like her yelling “you know what they did to me/took from me” which is paraphrased but you know what I mean) I really hoped they weren’t gonna do what they did. So of course they did it.
But I wish they’d like... just given her the kid. Just give her Iola and leave the weird suddenly random husband out of it. At this point we know Gaius has an unhealthy idolatry for her, we know Xenocrates adored her in his own way in his youth... but we know fuckall about Demetrius up to and including his existence until literally book 3. Sloppy, IMO. They took something not being mentioned and used it to put in a plot device when the omission should have been strategical.
TBH I thought the whole “you know what they did to me” was gonna get hella dark RE: Rheya and King Kaelisus’ obsession with her. That’s as far as I’ll go there.
But you have a Priestess, a known Priestess, who was definitely faithful enough not to stray even when she thought she was walking to her own death. It’s pretty easy to assume (as I did ngl) that she would be completely devoted to Phampira, including romantically/sexually. It would have been a good setup to explain why she never gave Gaius the goods if anything.
And there’s nothing wrong with having said Priestess have her own family while still being devoted. I just wish PB would have used some fucking forethought and hinted at that earlier on than they did. Because they didn’t hint. They dropped this random fisherman-something husband on us and told us she cared enough about his opinion to make him part of her advisory board but not... to like... mention him in any of her conversations in any of the flashbacks... including those in which he would have been alive.
On that note the whole timeline there is really messy, they obviously threw him and Iola in later on after some things were established/couldn’t be taken back. I’ve studied this shit extensively and it’s really muddled exactly how long Rheya ruled, when shit went down with her family, how much time had passed when Xenocrates staked her, etc.
I would have loved for Iola’s father not to have been there. Give me a strong woman, a strong single mother, who would burn the world for the loss of her daughter. Doesn’t matter who did the deed, Iola was hers and the Sons/Order took that from her and the world would have to pay the price.
If I had been given that I would end all of my complaints right here. I would, genuinely. Because then her descent into madness, her paranoia, her megalomania would all have been explained. And they still technically are but -- maybe it’s just me -- there’s something about her having to factor in Demetrius that just... takes me out of it. IDK.
I didn’t mind the guy... though him being a talking tree of doom was a little much for me... though by that point I had accepted the plot was off the goddamn rails and just kept nodding and going with it. But his presence made the story okay when his absence could have made the story impactful and powerful and emotional. That’s just my thoughts. Which you asked for. You did this.
No takesies-backsies.
Was she a villain? Hells to the yes.
It’s a classic case of obtaining ultimate power and abusing it; of crossing the line between justice and vengeance. Not that she wasn’t justified in her freak-out over the death of her family. But everything after up to and including her fatal feeding schedule was totally unnecessary. For a villain, yes necessary.
For a vampire goddess who could have easily used Gaius’ influence over the vampires of the modern world to form a cult following around herself with an open dialogue about her big ass appetite and probably would have ended up with swaths of willing adorers ready to lend their blood to her cause thus eliminating the need for secrecy and subsequent feeling of betrayal...
You tell me.
I feel like she was definitely more than a little hyped up though. Not even going into my whole-ass issue with the entire Unchained plot and thus the first like 4-5 chapters of book 3, she was hyped up in myth and kind of a let down in person. She could FLY. Walk in the SUN. Heal the DYING. She’s vampire JESUS.
*ADDED IN LATER: She took out THE ENTIRE ORDER OF THE DAWN, WHO HAVE RAVAGED THE VAMPIRE POPULATION FOR LITERALLY 3000 YEARS since they were around in her time after all IN LIKE A THREE-MOVE COMBO BREAK. ALL THIS SHIT THEY HYPED WITH THE ORDER and their entire ERADICATION isn’t even an ON-SCREEN THING. Unless you pay.
Dude if they had kept Xenocrates and the Order and used the two of them against each other; the Order’s long-standing influence on the modern world versus the new world Rheya wanted to create with the human populations not knowing the history behind their hatred, where like the first half of the book is Rheya and MC and gang taking out the Order and Xenocrates only to find out in the middle point that she’s been doing it for selfish reasons and they were on the wrong team the whole time and THEN Rheya becomes the big bad... I would have enjoyed the shit out of that.
Anyway. “She’s vampire JESUS...” and her big evil plan is to... suck face on national television? IDK. It didn’t play the mood right for me. I can see from a writer’s perspective how they kind of played out all of their options and went with a quick and easy solution... but it didn’t work for me. That’s a no from me dawg.
Do I think she deserved a redemption arc? I don’t think anybody deserved a god damn redemption arc, unless they are done with extreme care and attention to detail before/during/after said arc they go horribly, and overall tend to be the plot device pick of lazy writers.
And I take nothing back. No like I think I might have gone into how much I fucking hated Gaius’ “reDEmPtiON aRc” before or at least I have somewhere and to someone. Probably Sofia... no most definitely Sofia. But anyway. They spend TWO GOD DAMN BOOKS hyping Gaius as this ultimately irredeemable bad guy.
OMG I was literally playing the book 2 finale and got a quote hold on... HERE. Adrian literally says about Gaius in 2.16 “It’s like there’s no humanity left.” And that’s just one actual example of the tons of times they make him out to be devoted to Rheya of his own volition, the ultimate example of the line between believing in something and being blinded to everything by it, etc. Like a huge chunk of Kamilah’s and Adrian’s arcs RE: Gaius are about how he was definitely a monster, he turns the people around him into monsters, and while they have worked their asses off to be good and right their wrongs he has not, will not, and would not ever do such a thing.
Then suddenly he’s brainwashed, tried to turn Rheya down and was made into a loony toon because of it, and everything he made MC’s loved ones do that they blamed themselves for but needed to blame him for is suddenly Rheya’s fault and now we should blame her for.
Mmmmmkay sweetie. I’m good, thanks.
But really -- that was the last straw for me when it came to both Gaius and Rheya. There’s a difference between giving the villain something they see as a just cause (ex. Rheya avenging her family) and giving the villain a cop-out that absolves them of guilt (ex. Gaius and... everything about him). Like yes I know MC didn’t have to forgive him, I know Kamilah didn’t really forgive him, but it’s pretty fuckin obvious from how it was put out into the world story that the writers were trying to lean you towards blaming Rheya and letting Gaius off the hook.
I mean... making him save Lula for real when Rheya saved her for fake earlier on in the book, using Lula as a stand-in metaphor for her own child daughter that she finds out she was the cause of her death for, etc? That symbolism is so transparent I could put it in the asset database.
And I’ll only briefly touch on this since I could write a whole other essay on the matter RE: PB and their fucking constant repetition of this, but “let’s give both bad guys similar moral quandaries but suddenly reveal it was a consent issue and the woman is wholly to blame and now gets the man’s crimes piled on with her own” is super common in fiction and hella. fucking. sexist.
But that isn’t to say all of this is necessarily bad.
When done right, everything I’ve complained about above can be a part of a really good story. What “done right” means is different for everyone, everyone has a different example and different thoughts on it. These are mine. I think the better term would be done well. It was not done WELL.
But given things like PB’s weird obsession with redeeming the attractive (apparently) bad guy, PB’s history with narrowing a woman down to one trait or part of her (ex. Rheya’s power corruption centered around her role as a wife and mother and not... a super all powerful vampire goddess...), their obvious lack of attention to detail and overall lack of vision when it comes to the big picture* and more, I personally don’t think they knew what the fuck they wanted by book 3 and were already well into transitioning into whatever adultery-obsessed lingerie shenanery they’re fixated on now; so much so that it’s almost a disservice to the writing done in earlier book 1 and a decent chunk of book 2 when calling it a whole series.
*I keep bringing this up only because it means I can back up stuff like this with real examples of theirs: these guys did not write the plot of this series as a cohesive story. I get that, as a writer writing a big series myself I get the fuck out of that. But you have to solidify some things early on in the development process in order to avoid writing yourself into a hole or, like with this, having to result in trope-y plot devices that work in theory but on paper don’t give the story the full-circle fulfillment it deserves.
Their timelines are out of whack, they contradict themselves in quite a few places, constantly wishy-washy their own lore, and definitely didn’t go back and double check if they’d said something already... and that’s not including where they focused on the details of one unimportant thing and left another more important thing to just be “and this is the way it is moving on.”
I literally have no way/idea how to summarize any of this bullshittery going on in this ask. Did I like Rheya? The character personality, design, and overall idea as this big ass badass power/hungry goddess demanding fealty was pretty cool. Did I like Rheya when they narrowed her story down to her grief over her family (which, again, is valid, but just seemed really disjointed and rushed when compared to everything else they had given about her/shown of her by the beginning of book 3)? Not... as much.
I think they wanted her to seem like she could be redeemed. I mean FFS in the “big battle” she literally just stands there and lets you do the thing. 3000 years imprisoned and however many centuries before that spent taking the power that she was denied all because some bad dudes in masks killed the mortal husband and daughter you would have eventually lost to old age anyway...? And she just stands there???
Even knowing she was really behind Iola’s death they could have stuck with the “madness consumed” plotline and had her be like well... what’s done is done back to taking over now thank you.
But sometimes a bad guy just has to be a bad guy. Rourke from ES, mister capitalism -- can’t remember them trying to redeem him. If they had I don’t think I would have liked it so much. Who else... UGH. Thomas in NB. Crazy zombie man wants all monsters dead because one killed his family (can we stop using dead families for grief porn please and thanks...) another example of a useless villain. Hence why I removed him from my NB rewrite don’t even get me going...
What’s his face in TCATF! Luther! You join up with him and he still tries to kill you in the end! Now that was fucking classic. Hex, who suddenly is forgiven for the literal enslavement of a race of people and the thoughtless murder of a civilization that didn’t agree with her.. and all because she was ‘like a mother’ to the kid genius? Not so much.
I could go on and on and go search out tons of examples but in the end the one thing you can say PB does well is that they stay consistent in their ideas of redemption, of who deserves it and who isn’t, and just how far they’re willing to stretch the fucking story to forgive a character if 1. the sprite is hot or 2. the sprite had a little sprite family somewhere in there.
legit just talk to me about bb/nb

so I watched brief encounter last night because I was curious... I don’t understand what the main character meant by her committing the violence of falling inlove. I don’t think I understand how being in love could be violent- is it because she’s married?
hi anon! ahhhh! im so happy you decided to watch it! and then came to discuss with me pls do you know how delighted that makes me ;^; if youre not used to classic cinema, or even classic melodrama, i can see how the film would be a bit slow or a bit difficult to connect with. so i really appreciate you taking the time to watch and come up with questions for things. when i say this made my day i mean it lmaooo
the quote i believe youre pulling from is this:
I’ve fallen in love. I didn’t think such violent things could happen to ordinary people.
there are several layers to this statement - emotional, moral, political, societal, etc. im happy to break these down contextually so you can have a better understanding of why this statement is painful and, also, why love is an extremely violent experience. going under a cut because...i have this entire masters degree in film and im not using it so im gonna use it here lmao
at its most basic, yes, you are correct. she says love is a violent experience because she is already married. to love, really love, is an act of violence, especially when you are already promised and making a family to another person. there is an element of ruination here that plagues laura, love as a threat to the stability of the home and family. and we can see this when her son is playing in the street and gets into an accident - a completely innocuous event, but one she sees as an omen of her violence against her own family. karma, but at a level that would start a war among her family and community.
in most filmic universes, romantic comedies especially, we are used to the relatively easy expectations that come from learning to love someone - you meet, you flirt, you are both, ideally, free to experience these types of intense emotions, you come together, you separate (due to...any sort of obstacle), you come back together. in this traditional narrative, we are presented with the notion that falling in love happens in a linear fashion and that, once the two characters have ended their arc and achieved their happy ending, there is not much else that occurs. they lived happily ever after, ever after being an indeterminate amount of time in which we are meant to assume they exist within this state, ceaselessly.
in general, there are two types of love stories - tragedies and comedies. where romantic comedies (in the modern sense, and i am stressing modern sense) end with ‘happily ever after,’ the other alternative for lovers is death. you either overcome your initial obstacle, or you perish, in love, where love becomes a death. so where does that leave brief encounter? neither party have been put to death, but the death is of the will, the passion. and, in brief encounter, it is killed by morality. by choice. i will be coming back to this. because passion is an extremely important element of this film, and it carries the narrative from start to finish.
at its core, brief encounter is a melodrama. melodrama has its own sect of film theory, but in this case ill do my best to keep it simple. and its really important to recognize that this film is british - british melodrama are two extremely different experiences and come from two completely different places of expression.
american melodrama, the most broad sense, was a stylistic set of films, usually from the 40s-50s (even some released in the early 60s) which use a lot of the tropes of classic cinematic narrative story telling - but as irony, parody, or pastiche. great examples of these films would be rebel without a cause, mildred pierce, from here to eternity, imitation of life, etc. in all of these films, and again i am paraphrasing because there is so much relating to melodrama as its own theory and practice, there is an onus on emotional expression and sensationalism. the narrative is driven by passionate action, emotional action, and, almost always, the swell of music weve come to recognize in hollywood cinema. music swells with character emotion, thus assisting in informing the audience in how to feel, and so we are ok regardless if these characters are successful in their plight, because we have felt.
british melodrama operates from an entirely different perspective. yes, like their historical theatrical roots, they favor spectacle and avoid realism. and, again, there is a reliance on the music to lead the narrative. however, the focus shifts from the societal body to the familial body; body concrete rather than body politic. culturally, this is a significant change from the usual reserved emotional experience within britain. and that is where brief encounter becomes something extremely important.
brief encounter was released in 1945, in a post-war period when there were significant changes to womens daily and societal lives, and this film really hones in on the causative anxieties that are born from these sudden changes and, yes, sudden notions of emotional liberation from their families - a new found independence. with the context of this film coming off the tails of WWII, in a post-war society in which there is meant to be peace, laura calls the act of falling in love violent which, for an audience member at the time of release, would have immediately associated that element of violence with war time violence. love is a threat. its dangerous. love at this level is repulsive. love is an insurrection - love is a revolution. and it came to her without her permission. she is bereft. she is on the brink of collapse - and ordinary women, the traditional family house wife, is never meant to feel so eager to ruin her family for a sensation that is, inherently, selfish.
so this brings us back to passion. something that comes up quite a lot in brief encounter, most explicitly at the cinema when alec and laura see a trailer for a film called flames of passion (this is a real film btw! and you might be able to watch it - it too is a melodrama. theres also a queer reading within brief encounter, because of the inclusion of flames of passion, but thats for another day). this brings us to the moral question of love as violence. for this, we can turn to hume and his 4 thesis on moral philosophy, the morals that drive humanity. primarily we will look at the following points:
1. reason alone is not enough to motivate the will, but rather is a slave to passion 3. moral distinction is derived from moral sentiment: feelings of approval (praise) and disapproval (shame, blame) through our inter-relations with others, or through the perceptions of others as they perceive us
for hume, the passions are simply emotions, but they are broken down as direct or indirect. desire is a direct emotion and it arises, without thought, from a place of good or evil, pain or pleasure - and it is only after these feelings have arisen that we are able to consider the feeling. by that same token, bodily or carnal appetites, our carnal desires, is another instinct that arises from unknown origin and only is able to be thoughtfully experienced after we have been confronted with it. and that is the most important piece - desire and carnal desire is an instinct. for hume, love, on the other hand, does not directly cause action - because love is not an instinct. love is learned.
in brief encounter, laura is admitting that not only does she thoughtfully love alec - love in a way that would not necessarily cause action, but brings her unparalleled pleasure in comparison to a man who simply helps, but she desires him. desires him enough to take action, to release the shackles of her political body and engage in her carnal body, with an appetite that is almost reductive in theory, aligning her with something base. this pleasure inherently causes her pain, yet still, she craves it - without morality.
and through her perception of those around her - her friends, her acquaintances, her own husband - she distinguishes this moral experience as shameful. but, in that shame, she still does not surrender her carnal body. her apetite is awakened, unable for her to be returned to its normal, thoughtful state. at war, now, with herself and her desires, laura is conflicted and ruined, simply because she learned to love and to desire, a violence an ordinary housewife should never experience.

First this maybe an unpopular opinion but I'm glad Carol Danvers didn't play a huge role. For me, this was supposed to be the original 6 Avengers last hurrah sort of thing. Not someone who's literally been in only 1 other MCU movie.
Second, thank you Russo Brother's for letting Tony be mad at Steve. And I'm sorry but after all Tony went through he deserved to be mad. And it broke my heart when Tony broke down. That they were the Avengers and not the "Pre-vengers". Since as Steve said in AoU If they lost they’d lose together and Civil War split the team Tony has every right to be angry. And no matter who’s side you were on, no one can deny Steve’s heavy hand and hypocritical behavior in the movie. (But that’s a post for another day)
Third, how the **** did they have a time travel movie without coming off cheesy or like they jumped the shark?!?! This was so well put together! And so well thought out. Is it perfect? No. Will there be a couple of us out there trying to figure out the time hole/loops? Probably. But it did not come out cheesy? Awesome.
Fourth, It is incredible how well the Avengers are showing the stages of grief. Steve is Denial (getting over denial?) with his support group is beautiful. Clint’s Anger is beautifully and heart breaking beautiful. Bruce and Hulk’s Bargaining in literally becoming one, while weird is amazingly creative and cool. Thor’s Depression is so freaking relatable it’s almost heartbreaking. And Tony’s Acceptance of everything and having moved on is incredible.
Fifth, Morgan Stark is adorable. Like rivals my nephew adorable. And heartbreaking since my first thought when seeing her was ‘NO! Do not give us Peter and take away Morgan!’ She was honestly what Tony always wanted in a way. She is him being able to move on. He was so trapped by what happened in Afghanistan that it took him and Pepper 10 years before they were able to settle down with each other. Tony was destined to be a parent/paternal figure. Literally since the beginning of the MCU fan fic writers have been giving him children and now the MCU has made it cannon! And more importantly it fits. Look at them!
Tumblr media
Sixth, I’ve seen my parents have the same conversation that Tony and Pepper have. They both want to help people so much it takes over their lives and relationships half the time. And yet they still do it. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. And because it gives my sister and I an example to look up to.
Seventh, The Vormir scene.
Tumblr media
I was not expecting Natasha to die. but then they said they had to go to Volmir, and that it was Clint and Natasha going. I was mentally preparing myself to say goodbye to Clint. And then Natasha JUMPS after him. They saved each other for a moment and I was like ‘Red Skull will let them both live because of the love for each other.’ And the she LETS GO!!!!!!!!! And Clint breaks down for the lost of his friend. When in the EXACT SAME SITUATION Thanos did nothing!!! And everyone mourns. Yes! She has always said the Avengers were her family, but in that scene everyone shows how they are a family. Even when Thor blows it off thinking he could bring her back still feels right. Like how you expect a loved one to come back after they’re gone.
Eighth, The interactions during time travel is awesome. I love how all the Asgardians call Rocket a rabbit. I love that moment with Frigga and Thor matched only by Howard and Tony. This is truly the moment, both of them feel and understand their parents love. I love how they joked about the whole Cap is Hydra thing from a few years ago, and more importantly everyone’s faces in the elevator. Although I wish we would’ve seen more of Rocket on Asgard. Please let there be a deleted scene somewhere!
Ninth, Thanos and his army comes into the future. It feels so right. Of course even though he knows he’s going to win in his current course, he’ll do something to ensure it stays. And how he manipulates past Nebula is honestly heartbreaking. There you see all Nebula ever wanted was to be loved. And she honestly went down doing what she thought her father wanted from her.
Tenth, Nebula killing Nebula works on so many levels. Don’t tell me it’s a plot hole. This was such an important moment for her.  This was her truly letting go of her past. This was her letting go of wanting to please Thanos. Letting go of the anger she had for Gamora. Letting go of her self hatred. It was her becoming her own person.
Eleventh, the Battle Scene.
Tumblr media
I can’t get the GIF where they’re all together. But the simplicity of Steve’s “Assemble” Was just so beautiful I almost cried! This was literally 11 Years worth of movies coming together for one incredible moment. It had literally every able person fighting in one single moment.
Twelfth, I swear I’m not a lesbian or bi or anything. But that A- Force moment where all the female heroes are together, gave me goosebumps. And am a little turn on? Either way it was incredible!!!!!!!! And there better be another moment like this in any other movie!
Thirteenth, I love, love, love that they killed Tony. Not because I hate Tony. In fact I love him. But he has been trying to die a heroes death since the literal beginning. Heck, IM1 began with him almost dying. He has been a martyr denied the right to die. And the best part was that he died surrounded by the one he loved, except for Morgan. The love of his life, his best friend, and the person he saw as a son. Do NOT say Peter isn’t his son. That hug was the way you hugged someone you thought you’d never see again. And it was heartbreaking. And it was amazing!! And I’m pretty sure he made sure Thanos was the last one dusted. And I love that! Like a suffer what I suffer moment where everything he worked for turned to ash.
Tumblr media
Finally, complaints. I wished Harley, Lila, Cassie and Morgan played a bigger part. I understand why they didn’t. Truly I do. But I wanted to see a set up for the next generation outside of Peter. They need to do a new generation, passing of the torch thing in my opinion. Also, I wish that Thanos had been able to split Steve’s shield in half like Tony’s vision in AoU. Imagine how incredible it would’ve been if Tony saw that and Steve (Unconscious or dead) before he turned the tables on Thanos. That would’ve been awesome.
I’m so curious how things will go from here. I’m not sorry for such a long post. MCU has played such a huge role in my life. I was 7 when the first Iron Man movie came out. And I have loved it ever since. I needed to share my thoughts. Please expect more.
And one last thing, I don’t usually sponsor others but please for the love of MCU check out the One Marvelous Scene playlist. They all have so much to say and the YouTubers have so much to say in general.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLd7v7nQLQGwKQxfPtUPz6i1h3-JVxBx0D
Long may Marvel thrive, and may you all enjoy these movies for years to come.

The art of thesis-ing while spiralling
Saturday. 10 AM. I wake up to a few less-than-pleased messages from my normally chilled out supervisor. I’ve fallen behind on my timeline, I’ve fallen behind on my work, I haven’t handed in anything for advisory in weeks.
I know this. I also know that these ‘weeks’ of no work have been me gathering the courage to live, the willpower to read anything related to my thesis, the drive to even bother taking a shower, putting some food in me, putting on some clothes and facing the day afresh.
She doesn’t know this because I’m too ashamed to tell her. Nobody knows this, because I’m too ashamed to extrapolate. How else does a high-functioning depressive survive, if not by sitting on the box of their problems and grinning at the world?
It’s Ramadan. I’m fasting. I’m already slightly dehydrated and the lack of food isn’t helping with the growing anxiety. I stare at the laptop on the side of my bed. It hasn’t been shut down in weeks, because I tend to not shut it down unless I have ‘finished’ my work.
Of course, I have not ‘finished’ my work in weeks, so neither my laptop nor I can have any peace.
The idea of touching my thesis document wrings a family fear in me. I am afraid, of what, I can’t quite tell, but I am afraid, is all I know.
12PM. More unhappy messages from my supervisor. I need to be on track with my timeline. My dissertation is worth half my final grade. My heart thrums, signalling the sign of an oncoming panic attack. It’s Ramadan. I’m fasting. I can’t afford to have a panic attack that’ll leave me dehydrated and even more exhausted. Not when I have so much work to do.
I look at my laptop.
I take a nap.
3PM. I wake. More messages. I hide my phone under my pillow with trembling fingers and try to sleep again, but I’m all slept out and sleep won’t come.
My period tracker says it’s three days till my period. That might explained the heightened sense of… you know that feeling of like… casually wanting to die. PMS makes me suicidal, but I’m used to it I guess.
I gather up the courage to check my phone. She’s sent an exclamation mark at the end of her message - I have not sent her anything to look at in weeks! It sounds so much like a scolding that I have to put distance between me and my phone, as though standing far away from it will lessen the hurt. I can’t take criticism, I know. Especially when it’s my own fault.
I decide that after I pray, I will tackle a single paragraph of my work. A single paragraph is doable. I can do that. One paragraph. That’s achievable. That can be done.
I repeat that to myself while I go to the bathroom, wash up, pray, and sit for another hour, psyching myself up. I peek at my phone.
No more messages.
I start my work.
5PM
I do more than one paragraph and I’m exhausted. It’s probably not good enough, far off topic, and grotesquely over the word limit.
I shouldn’t care but I care.
I think about the messages. I start to cry.
I can’t sleep off the next panic attack but what I can do is squeeze down on it. Tears leak down my face like I’ve left a tap open. There’s no sound, just endless rivulets. I shower. Being alone in there sucks. I pray again. Still crying. I get back into bed. Still crying.
At least it’s close enough to iftar that I can rehydrate soon. At least I’ve done one section of what I meant to do. One more section and my lit review is drafted - but that was actually due to be done last week.
I think about what started the spiral, and I get angry. I knew graduation week would wear me out, but I didn’t anticipate or schedule for losing more than a week of work. I said yes to make my mother happy, but I am tired of making my mother happy while ravaging my own self.
I fully saw this coming, but there wasn’t anything I could do to stop it.
It’s easier to agree with her than to fight.
I try to watch a pottery video to calm down, but I’m still crying.
My best friend wakes up and says hello.
I stop crying.
Post-iftar, I’m wrecked.
I scheduled more work for myself after eating, but I’m terrified of doing it. I know it’ll be haphazard, I know it won’t make a lot of sense. I know I’m missing a myriad of things, nuances I wanted to slot in to sound as smart as I want to be. What I have is rubbish. Rubbishy rubbish. A crap excuse for a draft that’s already late and has no business being crap.
I try not to cry again. I barely make it.
I tell myself that it’s just one section, maybe two paragraphs. That I’ve already made notes on Mendeley and I can use them to extrapolate. That’s all I need to do. Extrapolate.
My supervisor wants more than my lit review. She needs my methodology section too. I tell myself that’s mostly done too, the last assignment dealt with that. Just need to cut, paste, and add.
It’s the ‘add’ part that’s getting to me. I can’t read something new, I can’t concentrate. It’s hard. I’m scared of it. I’m scared to open a book of qualitative research and continue to understand nothing because it has no examples.
I’m not smart enough for this, or further research. I’m not mentally equipped to handle this kind of stress.
My PhD dreams fizzle into mush.
I try not to cry.
I go for a walk.
Imagine if they had serotonin boosters that you could take. Tablet form. Injections. Anything at all.
I come home and I make myself a cup of tea. I always take my tea no sugar and a splash of milk. I load it with sugar and fill half the cup with milk. Basically milk with tea.
I drink it.
Seretonin boost.
I take a deep breath and open Mendeley for my notes, and I ask my best friend to check over what I’ve already written. She helps me tweak my sentences, cutting through run-ons, fixing awkward phrasing.
As in, she tells me what’s wrong and I fix it. Criticism from her doesn’t sound so life-threatening.
I want to die a little less.
I pull up an article to take notes from and I get distracted five times. I manage to finish it eventually. I copy quotes into the note-box instead of making my own. There’s no time for it, but I’ll figure out how to paraphrase them. I’ve read this article before, the highlights are all there, but for some godforsaken reason, I didn’t think to note anything down.
(I know why. I was probably depression-studying, too exhausted to go beyond highlighting.)
You know this, I keep telling myself. See, you can put this quote here, link it with that other thing you read. You can put this here and this one there. You got this. You know how to structure it.
The other voice is louder. You’re not producing anything good. You’re already late. You’ve failed this. You’ve failed this. Your draft is shit. And late. And shit.
You’re shit.
I try not to cry but that doesn’t work. I work through the tears anyway. I have to keep blinking hard because my vision is fucked through them, I can barely see. My stomach is in knots, from the sheer terror of looking through my own work. It’s so bad.
It’s so bad.
I glance at the time. 11PM. It’s so late. I wanted to be done an hour ago. I’ve barely begun.
I’m still so terrified. I don’t know what I’m afraid of exactly, but I am afraid.
I keep typing.

My Top 10 GF Episodes
So, I wanted to try and figure out my favorite Gravity Falls episodes just for the fun of it...but I will say I’ve only seen most of the episodes once so it’s very possible that there are some I might like more if I watched them again?
Also, most of my favorites tend to be relevant to the plot, but there are a few that aren’t that I still love (also big surprise, I love pretty much every episode with Ford in it xD)
Since I’m going to explain my reasoning behind why I like these episodes and am including some pictures, I’m putting this below the cut!
Honorable mentions (because there are some that I love that didn’t make it inn the top ten):
"Gideon Rises"
Tumblr media
I feel like this episode is overlooked a lot, but it’s really good? I especially love how Dipper learns that he can be a hero without the journal. Plus you can SEE how much Stan wants to take care of Mabel and Dipper and sending them away hurts him but he does it because he can’t give them the care they need like oof my heart.
"Into the Bunker"
Tumblr media
I love this episodes because it really sparks Dipper’s journey of finding the Author, not to mention the shapeshifter is kind of terrifying and makes for some intense action! It also adds to the mystery which of course I love! Plus, they really did the whole Dipper talking to Wendy thing well and in a realistic sense which I appreciate a LOT.
"Sock Opera"
Tumblr media
This episode is so good I almost had it in my top ten, it was a close call. There is just so much I love about it? I think the main thing that I’m eh about is whatever the dude’s name is that Mabel is trying to impress. But everything else? Bill being terrible but hilarious, Mabel giving up her show for Dipper, just...solid and good and yes.
"The Stanchurian Candidate"
Tumblr media
This one gives me all the Stan feels (and also Ford freaking giving a mind control device to kids like...Ford no...xD) But I love how it’s so TRUE to Stan, like he isn’t the best person when it comes to ideals, but if you put his family in danger, his golden heart shines through and you can’t help but love him!
10.  "The Time Traveler's Pig"
Tumblr media
I’ll admit, I haven’t rewatched this one yet, but I’m a sucker for time traveling shows and this one really helped me want to keep watching. It had interesting and fun elements that I enjoyed and Mabel and Dipper bonding that was so sweet and pure. Plus...fordshadowing...
9.  "Dreamscaperers"
Tumblr media
Such a pivotal episode in the series. Not only do we meet Bill for the first time, which is in and of itself foreboding, but we also get a look into Stan’s mind and a glimpse of his childhood (though I will admit I’m still not sure if the kid is supposed to be Stan or Ford because of the whole glasses deal...) and why he is so hard on Dipper. It’s just such a good insight into characters and as pointed out is the shifting point from a lighthearted show to a show with darker themes.
8.  "Northwest Mansion Mystery"
Tumblr media
This one is just so creepy but also fun? And I really do love seeing Pacifica’s development, and how you can see why she acts like she does. It’s such an insight into her character and he stand against her parents is great! Not to mention Dipper is willing to give her a chance and says she doesn’t have to be like her parents. Like this boy said “you’re the worst” at the beginning but is willing to give her a second chance after seeing her home life. I don’t know I just love it.
7.  "Scary-oke"
Tumblr media
Okay I love every bit of this episode, I just rewatched it and it’s just SO GOOD! Like, it’s the perfect start to season two, with Stan starting the portal, to the government agents noticing the power source and checking it out, to Stan, Mabel, and Dipper singing together to defeat zombies (not to mention how freaking PROTECTIVE and WORRIED Stan was for the kids, my HEART), I just love every bit of this episode man.
6.  "The Last Mabelcorn"
Tumblr media
Another important plot episode that is all sorts of crazy and intense and great! I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of the unicorn part cause you know...the unicorns are jerks, but I LOVE the development with Ford and Dipper and how in the end Mabel didn’t need the unicorn’s acceptance because she had her family. Plus that one scene is SO INTENSE like dude...DUDE!
5.  "Dipper and Mabel vs. the Future"
Tumblr media
This episode gives me SO MANY FEELS, like when I first watched it I was a mess (partly because I needed to go to bed but CLIFFHANGER MUCH) The difference between Mabel and Dipper’s relationship from the beginning to the end is so stark and it hurts, but you can understand BOTH sides and the parallels to Stan and Ford just oof...PLUS Dipper going on and adventure with Ford is like my favorite thing ever. “Say hop, it helps!” Ford you dork I love you.
4.  "Carpet Diem"
Tumblr media
Most of my favorite episodes are in season two, but let me tell you Carpet Diem is HILARIOUS. It was the first episode that I just absolutely loved because it made me LAUGH SO MUCH! Not only that, but the fordshadowing is there andi it’s real and painful. Also Mabel and Dipper realizing that they miss each other at the end...like ouch my heart but also so pure! <3
3.  "Weirdmageddon 3: Take Back The Falls"
Tumblr media
I’m just gonna go out and say Gravity Falls has one of the most satisfying endings of any show. Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s gosh darn close! There is so freaking much about this episode that I love. Every bit of Mabel and Dipper and how they trust each other so much and face Bill together without fear like my precious children! Ford not giving into Bill’s torture, but then him getting VERY worried when Bill goes after Mabel and Dipper, and then both Stan and Ford realizing how much they messed up and how they both would do ANYTHING to keep Mabel and Dipper safe. And then Stan’s sacrifice I just...it hurts me soul so much ever bit of that scene and everyone’s reactions just HURTS SO MUCH. But then Stan getting his memories back and just the pure bittersweet ending, like it’s so perfect but it also makes me cry just because these characters grow on you so much and seeing them parting just hurts my heart. The only thing I wish had been included would be the kids hugging Ford and Soos at the end (Mabel said “We said goodbye to everyone...” but we didn’t see them saying bye to Soos and Ford...maybe that would’ve been too much, I might’ve been even more of a mess...) Anyways, the entire end sequence, including the credits (and the MUSIC) is so perfect and my HEART! (this can easily be #1 for me too, but I love the other 2/3 so much too hnnng)
2. "Dungeons, Dungeons & More Dungeons"
Tumblr media
This episode is just so freaking enjoyable??? There are a lot of reasons I love it tbh...I love the poking fun at D&D (because I’ve actually PLAYED D&D), I love the family bonding and how Mabel and Stan use their strengths to save their brothers, I love how Dipper and Ford bond and how they understand each other and just click so much and really love hanging out together. Plus this is the first episode where we really get to know Ford, at least post portal Ford - his dorkiness, his bamf-ness, how much he really does want to get to know his family. It just is...so good...not to mention the whole Ducktective bit, “I’ll have you know Ducktective has a mystery element and jokes that go over kids heads!” (I’m paraphrasing there I probably messed up the quote xD) And then the whole “twin brother” twist in it too, just so much 4th wall stuff that is so funny and I love it so much!
1. "Not What He Seems" & "A Tale of Two Stans"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can’t split up these two episodes...I really can’t...I know everyone raves on “Not What He Seems” and it deserves that! It’s such an intense episode and the culmination of all of the questions that have been brought up throughout the show, at least relating to Stan and The Author. The entire episode is just leaves you so shook, not to mention that last scene with Mabel like...FREAKING EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER MUCH??? It is just such a freaking good episode and I really do love it, but to me you can’t just say “Not What He Seems” because it ends with you having about a bazillion more questions, enter:
“A Tale of Two Stans” I’m going to admit, if I HAD to pick a favorite episode it might just be AToTS because I just adore Stan and Ford so much. Seeing their backstory is so interesting but also so freaking heartbreaking, it hurts me every time I watch it and yet I always love watching it??? Maybe it’s just seeing how much Stan and Ford had each other’s backs as kids and how there is so much that shakes their relationship, but there are still hints of how much they still care about and trust each other (even continuing on in the show). It really just sets up their stories so well and has you rooting for them to reconcile and forgive for the rest of the series. And thankfully we get it in the end. I just...love this episode despite the PAIN because I love those Stan twins...

word :)
Ahhhhhh!!!! Okay so this will not come as a surprise to you, but the things I remember you saying/talking to me about the most vividly are mostly Star Wars related. I love your last jedi thoughts SO MUCH, particularly your ones about Rose and Luke. I remember coming onto tumblr after I saw TLJ (and I’d been off for weeks to avoid spoilers) and I was so disheartened because it felt like everybody hated it?? But there you were with your brilliant meta! And I remember reading it and just being like “YES YES YES”.
More specifically, I loved your point about Rose being the heart of The Last Jedi, about how she represents why they’re fighting or at least why they should be fighting. I’ve quoted that so many times you don’t even know :))) I also loved your description of Luke’s arc as one of self-forgiveness. And of course I love your ben solo redemption thoughts and how you always focus on how mercy requires a recognition of the gravity of his crimes or it can’t be applied to him. I mean I’ve actually quoted you on this topic before :) you said something like “mercy isn’t denying the wrong; it’s recognizing it and saying ‘I love you anyway’ “. That’s a paraphrase and I’m on mobile so I can’t double check but STILL. I love the way you said that so much.
On a non Star Wars note, I really, really loved and was struck by a post you made expressing your frustration with the “write what you know” rhetoric and writing advice especially when applied exclusively to women. You (rightfully) called out the sexism in that and expressed how important and good it is for women authors to be encouraged to engage with worlds and cultures and ideas that exist outside of their own and how, no, women don’t have to just write about domesticity to be great writers. It was such a good point and so well-expressed, and particularly important for me to hear because my intensest loves and my own personal writing inclinations do fall very squarely into the domestic and the personal. But not all women’s stories will or should do that and I loved your post for pointing that out.
ALSO ALL YOUR JANE AUSTEN THOUGHTS but this is too long already.

are you actually 56
No:-)
Theperson that’s been going around saying that about me isn’texactly the brightest LED in the jumbotron. They saw a post Ireblogged that asked people to put their age in the tags; what theyfailed to notice was that I reblogged that post almost two yearsago. Perhaps my anon questionercan figure out the implications of that, but this person doesn’tseem to do very well with abstractions. And I think if I had knownthere were this many haters on tumblr, I would have thought a littlemore about reblogging that.
(There’sa lot of hate ontumblr: someone else lied about me to a discord server owner in orderto get me banned almost a year ago; then again, this person also toldme that they were “glad to hear” that a good friend of mine hadprobably died, so their opinion is kind of of no interest to me.)
Thesame person that’s tellingpeople I’m 56 also once(publicly) accused me of “writing porn about little kids”, whichis something I have never done, and never would do. Iobject to that sort of thing at least as much as the averagenormally-thinking person does.I found out later that theywerereferring to a particular story of mine, and I pointed out that thethird paragraph of the story clearly states that the characters are19 in it, hence it isn’t “pornabout little kids.” This person either barely skimmed the story(and surely didn’t read it for comprehension) or more likely neverread it at all and simplytook the word of someone else, without bothering to fact-check beforemaking that slanderous public comment. SoI’m not in the least surprised that they also missed the veryobvious clue about my age.
Ifsomeone were to kick a person out of a discord server (andthat’s what this is about, isn’t it?)and ban them because that person was black or Muslim, peoplewould be all over them for being a bigot. Beingin a certain age group is simply another demographic; there’s goodand bad people inevery group.
Funnything about bigotry:There isn’t a bigot alive who doesn’t believe that theirparticular prejudice is completely justified. After all, in theirminds, the world would be a better place without “those people”in it. They don’teven realize they’re bigots;it’s amazing how that works!
(Foreseeinga possible objection here: “But you write smut!” Yeah, I do; sowhat? So do literally thousands of other fanfic writers. Do you evenvisit FFN or AO3? The latter site even has a (very popular)“underage” tag; yet you won’t find a single story of mine withthat, because despite what I’ve been accused of, I don’twrite porn involving underage characters.
Y’know,I have 24 South Park stories posted on FFN totalingnearly 300,000 words, and thevast majority of them aren’t smut. Whatthey are instead are better-than-average (yes, I said that myself)stories; but then again I’ve been writing fora very long time. Hell, foras long as I can remember Iwanted to be the next Stephen King :)  Unfortunately the closest Iever came to professional success was when I worked for a small townnewspaper for about a year. So when I discovered fanfiction back in2012, I had finallyfound an outlet where I could indulge my passion and share it withothers. Anyone who judges mebased not on that but rather the two or three stories Ihave writtenthat are either outrightporn or have sex scenes inthem shouldperhaps take a look at theirown biases. No one is forcing anyone to read anything theydon’t want to!
Ifyou want to see what I write when the South Park kids actually are10 years old, you should read mystory  Fahrenheit 203 sometime. Don’t worry! It’s not smut.
Foreseeinga couple other possible objections:
“Youshould have friends your own age!”(someone actually told me that here). Uh...I have plentyof friends my own age; heck, I have friends that are 20 years olderthan me. Ever smoke a joint with a 70 year old? It’s an eye-openingexperience ;) The problem is, none of those friends share my interest in South Park, or of writing fanfiction, soI have to go elsewhere to find like-minded people. The person that has beensaying I’m 56 once said (and I’m paraphrasing because it’s notworth my time to go get an exact quote): “I don’t seek out olderpeople to be friends with in real life, so why should I do thathere?”
Uh,I would suggest one possible answer might be “to broaden yourobviously very narrow worldview.” When I was 15-18, I wasa member of a local community orchestra (second violinist). I was thesecond or third youngest member there. We’d meet for rehearsal oncea week for two hours, and during the break halfway through, whilemost of the adults wentoutside to smoke, I’d go hang out with one of the cello players. The guy was pushing 70, was a great guy (and funny as hell) and letme play his cello. I got to where I could play a mean version of thefirst 30 seconds of the main theme to ‘Jaws’...butI digress.
“Whyis someone your age on this hellsite?” It’srather presumptuous to assume that someone would lose interest infandom-related things once they’ve passed a certain age. Beyondthat, this question is better addressed than I ever could in thispost:http://fallingvvstyle.tumblr.com/post/164637677546/redshoesnblueskies-knitmeapony
“Butyour generation ruined the economy/destroyed the environment!”Well, that may be true, but I personally had nothing whatsoever to dowith that. I’ve neverserved a single day in Congress, I’ve never been involved inpassing a single law; although I haveplanted close to 30 trees around my house in the last 15 years.Blaming me for what others inmy demographic did is no different thansaying all black people are violent thugs, or all Muslimsare terrorists. Again, theregood and bad folksin every group of people.
“But...I’mjust not comfortabletalking to you.” Ifso, then you probably shouldn’t interact with me;  Butwhat kind of person prevents someone from interacting with otherpeople who dowant to interact with them, besides a petty, vindictivetyrant-wannabe who was probably bullied themselves and seizing theopportunity to tryto doit to someone else (whounfortunately for them doesn’t take crapfrom anyone anymore)?Believeit or not, I’m nothurting anyone (opinionsabout a couple of my stories notwithstanding),I’m not trying to hook up with anyone here (my wife wouldn’t letme anyway :-) ), and I don’t talk about sexual stuff with underagepeople. Asfar as my stories areconcerned, they are all properly tagged and rated, and there my responsibilityends. It’s not up to me to police what other people do on theinternet.
Butno matter; I won’t be joining any more discord servers;however a friend of mine and I are going to start our own, and whenwe do I’ll be posting a linktoit here. There’sa couple people here who goingto bepre-banned.
FinallyI’m going to tag a few people; some of these are people who haveknown me for severalyears, we’vediscussed myage, andthey continue to be my friends, a few are people thatI’m sure have seen this bullshit drama playout onmy dash before and still talk to me anywaywithoutactuallymentioning it,and the rest of them are people whosereactions havebeen less than favorable and rangeanywhere from not talking to me anymore and/or unfollowing me, allthe way upto extreme hostility (andthey’re in no particular order so don’t try to figure out whichuser name is in which category).

Onerequest: If you’re going to try to argue with me about this post, make sure you’ve readit for comprehension first, becauseunlike the conversation I had with the personwho still thinks I’m 56,I’m not going to explain the same thing two or three times anymore.

So last night I was with Ed, Chad, Joseph, Lapore, and Geoff. We were drinking liquor called Primera Light and we bought 3 of it plus 1 bottle of Red Horse jumbo for washing. On the final bottle, I dared each of us to message a girl whom we don't know and give it our best shot to talk to them. Joseph went first, next was Ed, followed by Geoff, then Chad, me and Lapore. I really had no intent on messaging someone I didn't know and I was easily tipsy as hell, but I've been wanting to message Georgette. I don't know. I really just find her interesting honestly. So, after Chad sent his message to someone on IG, I messaged Georgette saying "Titanic" "That's my icebreaker 🤪". I wasn't hoping for a reply really and I instantly regretted messaging that shit.
Morning came, we woke up at about 11:30 am exactly and I saw her reply "Well hello to you too 🙂”. I was surprised because I really thought I wasn't getting a reply rather my mind was already settled with the thought of getting inboxed with a pile of her messages probably. I quickly said some shiz like "actually, I've been wanting to chat you ever since I saw na magkaklase tayo sa soft eng". I didn't open our chat as soon as I said as I know that she's attending the tech caravan in our CITE department. I waited till afternoon and got a reply from her "Ay oh? Well, now you did hahaha". Truthfully, I was troubled. I don't know how to start a conversation with a girl. It's been so long, man.
I did not completely engulf myself in the thought of what should I say, but it still boggled me to some extent. I was trying to get so fixated in the moment along with my tropa while they're helping me clean my room. But at around 7 pm, I messaged her saying "I guess messaging you while tipsy made me overcome my fear of messaging you". And her reply made me really really really uneasy. The way she typed "haha." like this hit me in the wrong way. I've read too many stories, books, and observed so many habits of girls of how they feel like when it comes to pushing someone away. I instantly felt like I was a bothersome really. I read in between the lines too much that it became a habit of mine whether a person wants to engage in a conversation or not. But I neglected it either way. I still continued with our conversation while keeping my tropas at bay; not forgetting my priorities of course.
I asked how was her day and she returned the question as well. This gave me a sign of hope for a little while. And then I opened a topic regarding whether if she reads books or not, and if yes, what's her favorite book. She told me that the last book that she read was "Falling into place by Amy Zhang". I asked her about the plot and she told me it's about suicide. Of course, I wasn't surprised at all. I know that Georgette loves dark stories or maybe practical (?) plots. It's because I've seen her share posts like tattoos, depression quotes, and self-love. Well, as to what my mind can decipher, she's into weird shit. Hahahaha. I told her one of my favorite books as well is "One Last Thing Before I Go by Jonathan Tropper" and it's related to suicide, or probably depression and gaining hope. I actually forgot to tell her that. Well, now that I think about it. She didn't even return the question back as I said my favorite book. That's the 2nd warning for me. She's giving me signals that she doesn't like to talk to me at all. But still, I continued.
I continued to broaden the topic as were talking about suicide already. I asked her "sensitive topic pero what's your opinion about suicide?" She answered in the most positive words I wouldn't have dared to imagine say as I was already getting the idea of what type of person she is. "A dumb way to die. It may end the pain, but it's just passing down to friends and family, which is much worse to their end." That's her answer. I said "But at some have point have you ever considered "death"?" Maybe this got out of hand really quickly? I guess I shouldn't be open in regard to these sensitive topics. So yeah. She told me that death hasn't even crossed her mind and that she couldn't do it nonetheless. "Mhmm. I get you". I know that at that moment I knew the topic I just opened seemed to hit some nerve of hers. I immediately apologized for opening such a topic. And then she wanted to ask something. I thought it would be like something related to my life, but she was actually dumbfounded on why I messaged her. "Hmmmmm. Well, I feel like you're unlike any other girl na maarte (or idk). I feel like maybe I can talk to you in a way most girls would get totally offended or weirded out. I find you interesting (is that weird?)" I told her. I wasn't sure of what she said seeing that she removed it right after I stopped messaging her, but surely I can paraphrase it like "I never thought someone would find me interesting" followed by "Huh. I don't think I'm that interesting hahahaha." I guess she doesn't know how to react to compliments? And I assured her saying that her aura makes her approachable and friendly. I also told her that she finds that weird it's because I'm an observant person. She said "Hmm slight. But I'll let it slide 😛", and I replied with "Fair enough. Hahahaha". We ended the conversation with her laugh reacting to my message.
Sooooo, what should I do? Am I taking it the wrong way ba? Or is she just like that talaga? Masyado kasi akong nasanay na nanghuhula ng tao honestly. Hindi ko din alam eh. Para kasing nilalagay ko sarili ko sa shoes nya and if ever she feels disgusted saken dahil sa physical appearance ko, I understand. I'm insecure, I know. Well, siguro hanggang doon nalang talaga. I just messaged her out of luck pero based from her signals din kasi, she seems uninterested in talking to me.

Moral obligations when investing in the future & The Vulnerable World Hypothesis
What is your responsibility as investors when investing in these potentially scary or damaging technologies?
I've gotten a form of this question asked on the last two panels I've been on over the last two weeks (LDV Summit: Investing in Visual Technologies, Betaworks Render: Investing in Synthetic Media). It's a fair and topical question that in the last case was then followed by "Do you think Facebook is evil?” Clearly we're working out our feelings on this in real-time, and just now really starting to care about our answers.
This question makes some investors nervous because it puts a microphone to your mouth and asks you to take a stance on capitalistic desires, broader life principles, and really tests the limits of just how "mission driven" you are, despite your job really just being to take $1 and turn it into $4+ over 10 years. In an industry that loves nothing more than signaling our undying passion for mission, to the point where HBO's Silicon Valley repeatedly mocked us, there is some brand risk here.
Despite being oddly caught off guard and having no real politically correct answer to this question, I've tried to be transparent in showing both my strong capitalistic and somewhat philanthropic side. My answer at these events could be paraphrased as something like this:
I think this question bifurcates people. Either there are those that claim to take a very hard moral stance on evaluating companies entirely for good and then claim to deeply care about their responsibility in the trickle down effects, OR there are those that believe trickled down inevitabilities are exactly that, inevitable, and thus we must solve hard problems first and be mindful of long-term issues, but not destructive of innovation because of them.
I fall closer to the latter. I moreso believe that these technologies are indeed inevitable and their shockwaves will be felt regardless of if I back them or not, on some time horizon that is within a decade or so. I don't feel comfortable investing in some companies that I can see a clear, core, and very direct path to negative behavior (think Juul), especially in the short-term. However I'm not going to pass on a company I feel strongly about because there's a scenario where a decade or two down the round, the technology could be maybe negatively used by some small number of bad actors. My moral obligation does hold towards founders though, in the sense that humans that have previously acted immorally at certain levels, I will not back regardless of their pedigree, network, idea etc.
And then I usually mumble that it's a difficult decision and I don't think anyone has the perfect answer here.
-----------
The day after I was on the Betaworks panel, I read a paper by Nick Bostrom which breaks down what is called The Vulnerable World Hypothesis. The paper talks about possible inventions and how we've largely avoided a catastrophic outcome from an invention that destabilizes civilization because...well we've been lucky. The paper describes this innovation as such:
One way of looking at human creativity is as a process of pulling balls out of a giant urn. The balls represent possible ideas, discoveries, technological inventions. Over the course of history, we have extracted a great many balls—mostly white (beneficial) but also various shades of grey (moderately harmful ones and mixed blessings).
...What we haven’t extracted, so far, is a black ball: a technology that invariably or by default destroys the civilization that invents it.
The paper then goes on to mention ways in which we could prevent or risk mitigate various types of "black ball" inventions.
Nick uses illustrative examples to hypothesize future black balls and types of vulnerabilities, many of which involve areas I very directly and specifically invest in, such as AI/ML, synthetic biology, and genomics. This got me thinking more about the question I mentioned at the top of this note.
Then I came across this excerpt:
The principle of differential technological development is compatible with plausible forms of technological determinism. For example, even if it were ordained that all technologies that can be developed will be developed, it can still matter when they are developed. The order in which they arrive can make an important difference—ideally, protective technologies should come before the destructive technologies against which they protect; or, if that is not possible, then it is desirable that the gap be minimized so that other countermeasures (or luck) may tide us over until robust protection become available.
This spoke to me with respect to this question on ethics and investing in emerging technologies, because it accepts inevitability, but doesn’t accept the often overly optimistic “humans will figure it out, we always have” stance that many have. It instead tells us to keep in mind the sequencing of these innovations so countermeasures may tide us over and risk-mitigate.
A story related to this:
I quickly became enamored by GANs from Ian Goodfellow’s first paper in 2014, then went on to study what I called digital asset manipulation, and then researched and wrote about how we must build technologies to detect these manipulations in 2016.
I’ve now spent ~3 years talking to multiple researchers, founders, and engineers working on the detection side. It was then that I reached the view and I wrote about how society must shift for any real defense to take place (Moving from a default trust to default skeptic society), and that detection technology won’t help drastically curtail many of the risks of these technologies (Truth Algorithms aren’t helpful for fake news) in the near to mid-term.
To be more direct, all of this technology is great, but my belief is that humans have only enacted widespread change when forced with terrible historical outlier events. Yes, we “figure it out”, but we do so after suffering.
Bostrom discusses this with relation to an increase in the importance of access control in bioscience that came due to the 2001 “Amerithrax” incident:
Some black-ball technologies, when they first emerge from the urn, might be difficult to use and require specialized equipment. There could be a period of several years before such a technology has been perfected to the point where an average individual could master it.
During this early period, the set of empowered actors could be quite limited; for example, it might consist exclusively of individuals with bioscience expertise working in a particular type of lab. Closer screening of applicants to positions in such labs could then make a meaningful dent in the risk that a destructive individual gains access to the biotech black ball within the first few years of its emergence.
-----------
As it stands today, we have research repositories and active theses in areas including generative media/creative AI, the future of family planning (including “designer children”), Robots/AI and how they impact social dynamics, and many other areas that could have scary downstream effects. I have and will continue to invest in companies in all of these categories today.
I write all of this to say that I believe the overarching view on our history and The Vulnerable World Hypothesis is one that should be shared more with blind human-optimists that believe we will always figure it out, because in our short time as a civilization we have. But past performance does not equal future results.
Some of the frameworks proposed for mitigation I believe are idealistic, but will help inform how I evaluate companies and their mid-term societal threats moving forward, as well as how I answer the initial question surrounding moral obligation as an investor. Specifically, the risk mitigating systems we put in place at both a company and societal level is one that I believe should be openly discussed for areas that are less nascent and (we believe) are slightly easier to project forward. Bostrom calls this “partial protection” in his conclusion.
Ultimately, I imagine I’ll remain in my previously described grouping of capitalistic, future-optimist, driven by a desire to bring the future to the present at a faster rate, but better equipped to analyze the “strings or elastic bands between some of the balls, so that when we pull on one of them we drag along several others to which it is linked.”
And I also imagine that many will quietly believe that people like me are why we’re in this social media debacle, and many other issues we’ll continue to see unravel in the future.
I don’t really have a great ending so I’ll end with a separate quote from a Fred Wilson post in 2012 that I’ve always loved that speaks to the need to continually evolve.
NY is "meta unstable" meaning that it is inherently unstable and therefore in a constant state of imploding on itself. And NY'ers implicitly understand that. So they only way we can keep the city functioning is to be constantly seeking to upgrade it in real time. So that's why the city is in a constant state of construction. That's why NY'ers are always looking for a better way to do something and a faster way to get somewhere.

prose poem
Found this while going through some of my older works. Angry, angst-y, prose poetry. Warnings for suicidal thoughts and other possibly triggering or controversial themes.
Reasons To Live/Not To Die Sex. Sex of course. Fucking. The sex you haven't had. Making love. This is not helpful to an asexual, any more than "women's vaginas", "hot girls", "sexy girls", "fucking a woman" Would be helpful to a gay man No mention of self-pleasure either Orgasms are only good in company? When you're wondering if life is worth living And one of the most popular reasons given Is to have a penis repeatedly rammed into you Then it's seems that yes, Life is pointless Babies One day…you will stare down at your baby daughter’s face as she lies contentedly asleep in your lap Your children and grandchildren [If you commit suidice] You’re preventing a future generation, YOUR KIDS, from even being born. This is useless, hurtful, to the infertile And utterly anathema to someone Who has been childfree since age 11 Who would rather tear out their uterus With their fingernails, then be pregnant And if it's selfish to die before reproducing Isn't it selfish to stop at one, or six, or nineteen Because think of the unborn relying on you! All those poor eggs you let go to waste Every time you menstruate. If children are such a source of joy Why are so many abused, abandoned, neglected? And it's not even enough to reproduce To give life your life meaning You need to spend the rest of your life Nagging at your offspring to do the same "Give me grandchildren!" Isn't that a much more selfish act? God What if there really is a Hell? only God has the right to end a life God granted the miracle of life, only He can end it [Your family] may come to hate God. And they will feel guilt about this How dare you talk to me of your god How dare you assume what my faith is What that of my family is What spiritual beliefs we hold Hell? Imagine a father finding his child crying And instead of comforting him Beats him for being weak and in pain I cannot worship any deity Who would be so cruel You can keep your arrogant patriarch My spirituality is my own Any god I can accept Is one who would understand all The joys and pains of life And the decisions made in the face of them Imagine how much guilt, grief and anguish you will cause your loved ones. So many people care, and it would hurt them if you hurt yourself. There are so many people that would miss you My family depends on me and needs me You'll put your friends and family through grief I'd/We’d miss you You want to guilt someone into living? You offer up platitudes but How can you love or care about or miss someone You don't know at all, Someone who's reading your blog for the first time? These reasons are not helpful When no-one relies on you When the people who you care about Who supposedly care about you Who would allegedly miss you Are the ones who can cause the most pain With their abandonment With their criticism With their lack of concern for you Maybe these things are true and Maybe they're not But they do nothing to quell the fires When you're aflame Walking your dog in the crisp evening breeze. Walking on the beach These are positives But the lack of them is part of the problem The one thing I have always most wanted The one place I long to be Thinking of what I do not have Cannot have Merely adds fuel to the fire Funny animal videos Cheese and wine Bubble baths Chocolate Positives I can relate to Things within my grasp These can help take off the edge Push back the anguish for a time These are somewhat more helpful So long as they are not also telling me To get laid or pray to their God Things will get better You don't have to make the decision now This is your decision I've been where you are now No-one knows if it gets better But taking a day to think things through Is good advice Personal stories are sometimes helpful If not too sanctimonious or otherwise unrelatable Being acknowledged not as someone Sick or fucked up or insane Not being threatened with incarceration Instead having someone write to another person An adult capable of making a decision Writing without criticism, but with understanding That's the most helpful of all Endnote 1: When all you hear from society is that your value is as an employee or a wife or a mother and you are none of these things and don't want to be these things, it's difficult. Add in how quickly friends will leave, how family will ignore, how people will disappoint you. Throw in a lack of self-confidence, add how the one truly valuable thing you're capable of not really valued, stir in how you'll never have the things you truly want. It only takes one more drop to make the whole thing spill over into despair. Online sources of assistance are a hot mess of the sort of "advice" that could end with incarceration and permanent stigma, religious bullshittery, fundamentalist Puritanism, false platitudes, and the occasional gem of understanding and thoughtfulness that actually makes it seem that the despair won't last. Endnote 2: All the italicised quotes are direct or mildly paraphrased versions of actual online material meant to give reasons to live/not to die, in particular one tumblr post which I still see doing the rounds sometimes and makes me rage every time. The rest are my personal words and responses, and reflect my feelings, which are not up for debate.

Rant
And wow this is long, and i have no idea how to keep reading it so I apologize in advance,
Just watch the Omar interview with Trevor and wow, does the trolling JUMP on the comments.
Alas, these american idiots be like, tHeiR rEliGioN is vIoLenT, iN tHe bOok theEy sAy tHis, aLL mUslIm haTe us, Isis is iSlam. -_- i mean they are probably troll cuz I just can't believe that someone from the US would actually believe an organisation (terrorist no less) is representative to all religion. Like that's literally saying the blue / the red are representative to all american. Like come on.
I mean as muslimah who spent most of her internet time in foreign english-speaking domain (which is dominated by america), I aint new on islam-hating words. But like it has and always been alittle frustatingly hilarious to me.
Also disclaimer i aint from english-speaking country so im translating the terms of my language, cuz y'know i dont know what english-speaking people would called them, i only know the terms in my language. Also im pretty sure my experience and lessons I get are island or even small city-oriented, but you may be surprised (like i did) but the islamic lessons that are taught have small differences in each country or nation based on cultures or even country's history.
Cuz it's always the same thing. AND the hilarious thing for me is that their arguments most often are similar to the radical or the terrorists. Just swap the people they called the devil worshipper / the enemy. Like the terrorist/radicals would say that the Jewish people (which honestly is very telling how they never say israeli) is a satanic / genocidal / evil etcetra, while these islamic-hating comments would say Islam is a satanic / genocidal / evil etcetra.
Which, huh, maybe those comments/posts are the reason why I never paid much to the radicals.
Like judging from those rhetorics where 'Islam as a religion hates christian and/or jewish people' etc, many non-muslim seem to not know this, but like there's this 6 elements that you HAVE TO truly and wholeheartedly believe (put faith on) in your heart to be muslim. And one them is having faith (as in truly believe) that Torah came from Prophet Moses and Bible came from Prophet Isa. So, whenever I spy these rhetorics, I just can't!! Because we were supposed to also learn from Torah and Bible too. But, I also think it's understandable, cuz it's probably an awkward thing to openly say right? Esp in these tension-filled interaction between religion where aLOT of things has been said to attack. Or maybe it's not an awkward thing, but words that cannot penetrate the walls that was built from conflict and hatred.
Also
I was taught that Qur'an is the last Holy Book to round-up or finish off all lessons from previous books that came from previous prophets. But I did come to realize that the lessons I was taught were only words they parrotted without meaning. Why? Because I was taught that in my single digit year old, now I'm on my twenties and I never learn what's in Bible or Torah. Even tho, the holy books we were supposed to learn, understand, and apply were Torah, Bible, and The Quran.
You maybe wondering if I do believe that why don't I research those holy book myself. Well I did, but the young me got confused at the bible versions that pop out from my initial search that I give up because I aint touching that without any Christian with me., Thats just a disaster in waiting, cuz I wouldn't be able to spot whats true or not since I have no base knowledge on it ya know? But, I did get that children book of Christian's prophet stories. Tho, I can't mention it willy-nilly cuz people would think I'm converting. T.T amd nobody would want to read it for fear, but like if anybody ask me I would say you are not afraid of the christian tales, you are afraid to find out how fragile your faith is.
I get to that point after many of these news that are viral on the islam part of internet where they glorify and amplify the news whenever someone converts to islam or whenever someone 'owned' non-muslim's in debate or whenever someone get non-muslim to convert.... Not gonna lie, at first, I did join on these people in amazement and happiness until I realized these people were only using these stories to back up their choice of religion. Like they scream while acting humble, I am right in choosing Islam, see it is undeniably the truth, those are the proofs!, look non-believers got converted the islam is true!. And my fellow muslim you would thought there was nothing wrong with these words (like I did) until you realize these people don't actually believe in Islam. They only interest to be saved or want the benefits of Islam, but they only filmsy believe the religion so they use as many of those stories to prop it up. They are in denial, deep deep denial how fragile their believe is so they seek these stories to prop up their faith.
How do I get there? Well, one of them is flat earth. Bro, I have interact wih these fools who jump on flat earth because apparently a quote in the Quran said so. At first I was like bro what? I did say that the word used for implying flat earth is ambiguous before I realize I don't have the authority nor accredited knowledge to say that. But I did jokingly say 'what are all the fusses with the earth shape and the Qur'an quote? What, you gonna stop being muslim over that? Lmao, can't relate' before i realized that THATS THE THING. These people have used those stories and believe blindly and narrowly that everything in the Qur'an is true and applicable to everything to prop and use as a foundation for their believe, that when they found any surface disperancies, they lost it.
I can already feel muslim frowning at me saying what's wrong with having these stories affirming their faith. you see, on the panic over the fragility of their believe they went on full stupid and just swallow ANY SENTENCES without any thought whatsoever abt Islam that would strengthen their faith. Girl, some ustad be saying that islam prohibits drinking while standing is proven scientifically right because when drinking while standing will make the water fall hard straight to your bladder and cause the water to not be absorbed and just pee out. And people be subhanallah God and God's wisdom. And when some profesor be like 'sir, please be careful on spreading these info cuz that's not how our body work', she got blasted and labeled as a non-believers, or proof that getting higher education is to be corrupted and losing ur faith.
Which, yo muslim fellow, was I dreaming this thing or did Prophet Muhammad did actually said 'to pursue knowledge, even to China' ( i am paraphrasing this)? I can't believe how I was taught this at young age, as a girl, that it is very important for mothers to pursue education as highly as possible because mother is the first person children are gonna learn from. To be at this age of mine, where some muslims be dissuading muslim from learning higher. Like what?! Actual religious muslim man be telling me I shouldn't get a master degree because no man would want to marry me. The muslim man who was taught like I was that every person on earth has their 'soulmate' that is predetermined before our birth by Allah. Seriously? He didn't even say that my 'soulmate' would not be attracted to me, which is how i know he was taught the same thing as me. He also went quite when I hit him with 'is he questioning Allah's decision and power over my soulmate? That a mere master degree will over overcome my predetermined 'soulmate' that Allah has chosen for me?'
(and yes, idk whats the English word for it so im using soulmate)
And no, he did not stop pursuing me, he just stop using religion as flirting method. He downright stop saying any religious thing around me, and straight on asking me on a date, as an 'uber' driver on my way home, at night, almost midnight, note: i was a restaurant waitress. That muslim getup really be accessories for him.
Wait, my main point is Islam lessons isn't as perfectly similar as alot of people believe. Like I said the islam lessons really be different. Like the foundation is the same, but the details differ.
One simple example is how I found out that English speaking country (idk which one) use he, him as god pronoun, when I was taught that Allah is genderless and is referred as ?substance? (idk the english term, just that Allah is not humanize ya know? Someone help me explain), and the mere thought of implying Allah's gender be a huge blapsemy (notice how i never use one) let alone using the pronoun he,him. But honestly I figured it's because english doesn't have neutral gender he/she/they like my language.
Also, yes I have a joke I thought when I first learn of non-binary people, but it is very blasphemous so i can not say it. Been hoping someone else say it, but alas I have not see it. :(

Mark 5
MARK 5- 21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? 22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. 23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. [Note right before I post- This ‘post’ was being worked on before the last 2 days of posts- I had this verse in the ‘hopper’ ready to go- Yes- God’s word is very prophetic] Jesus Christ https://youtu.be/X-YGVitz194 Mark 5 https://ccoutreach87.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/3-19-17-mark-5.zip

NEW [Past links- verses below] Jesus and his men arrive by boat to new spot- Mark 5:1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. A man meets them- he is demon possessed and the bible says he was in the graveyards day and night- cutting himself- and no man could chain him [stop him]- Mark 5:2 And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Mark 5:3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: When the man meets Jesus- the demons in him recognize that he is the Son of God- Mark 5:6 But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, Mark 5:7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. Jesus asks the man his name- the man [or demons in him] respond ‘my name is Legion- for we are many’. The demoniac implores Jesus not to send them out of this area- Mark 5:10 And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Jesus permits them to go into a herd of pigs feeding- the pigs run into the water and are drowned- Mark 5:11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. Mark 5:12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. Mark 5:13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea. The people of the region see the man- now healed- and in his right mind. It scares them- and they want Jesus to leave- Mark 5:14 And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done. Mark 5:15 And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. Mark 5:16 And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. Mark 5:17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts. The man who Jesus delivered wants to join the group- and go with Jesus- Mark 5:18 And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him. But Jesus tells him to go back home- and tell the people what ‘great things the Lord has done for you’- Mark 5:19 Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. Now- as Jesus walks along with his men- a ruler of the synagogue- Jairus- comes and tells Jesus that he has a daughter who is very sick- Mark 5:22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, Mark 5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death ‘Jesus- come and lay your hands on her- so she can be healed’- : I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. So they go to the man’s house- the crowd is rubbing up against Jesus- Then- all of a sudden- Jesus says ‘who touched me’? His men say ‘look how many people are touching you- how can you ask a question like that’ [my paraphrase]- Mark 5:31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? But Jesus sensed that the power to heal was actually accessed- that someone touched him in faith- and received something- Mark 5:30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? Sure enough there was a woman who had a sickness for 12 years- she thought ‘if I get close enough- and even maybe just touch his clothes- I will get healed’- Mark 5:28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. Yes- she was the one Jesus was talking about. She admits it was her- Mark 5:33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. Mark 5:34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. That’s ok- her faith made her whole- and she sought the Lord. Now- they are still on the way to Jairus’s house- some messengers come and tell Jairus ‘don’t bother coming- your daughter has died’- Mark 5:35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? Jesus looks at Jairus ‘just believe’- Mark 5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. They arrive at the house- The people are in disarray- I mean a little child just passed away- Mark 5:38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. Jesus says ‘she’s just sleeping’- Mark 5:39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. They laughed him to scorn- Mark 5:40 And they laughed him to scorn. But he goes into the room- and raises the girl from the dead- Mark 5:41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. Mark 5:42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. She was 12 years old. You see- this day Jesus was empowered [anointed] in a special way- For a special mission. He was on the way to undo 12 years of death. He was on a mission. And as this anointing was upon him- sure enough another person- who also had 12 years of death working in her body. She ‘made a withdrawal’ from this healing anointing- Mark 5:25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, Mark 5:26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, It was O.k. with Jesus- don’t get me wrong. But he was on the way to raise that 12 year old girl from the dead. And he did indeed raise her. In this chapter we see the ongoing ministry of Jesus- and how the miracles he was doing were testifying to he was. The Son of God- the Messiah- 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 20 But he also did them for another reason. These people were hurting- tormented- and dying. And the Son of man came to destroy the works of the devil- 1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations
And Jesus was on a mission. It will culminate at the Cross- and the empty grave. But he loved the people so much- that he also destroyed the works of the devil every chance he could. Just ask the man they called ‘Legion’. PAST LINKS- POSTS- [My past teaching that relates to today’s post ‘Mark 5’. Below are parts of my past teaching that relate- (871)ROMANS 15:1-7 ‘we then that are strong [more mature] ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not please ourselves’. In Philippians we have the ‘KENOSIS’ the act of Jesus, who being in the form of God, thought it not something to be used for his own advantage. He did not see his purpose in the kingdom as one of ‘let’s find out our rights in the covenant and posses what’s rightfully ours’. A few years back it was common to hear ‘God told me his people don’t have a problem with giving [oh really?] but they need to learn how to receive’. While there might be a ‘speck’ of truth in this, the overall ethos of the kingdom [according to Jesus and Paul] is ‘we are not here to please ourselves, but give up our rights and blessings for the purpose of pleasing others’ [building them up, edifying them]. Paul makes this statement right after the chapter on Christian convictions. He shows us that even if we are right on a particular issue, it is ‘more right’ to not offend or put a stumbling block in our brother’s path. It is possible to ‘be right’ in a particular doctrine or truth, and yet ‘be wrong’ in that we might have used it in a way that destroyed the purpose of God in building others up. Many in the church [at large!] have unwittingly ‘tore down’ the poor and oppressed by seeking ‘their own pleasure’. Many overseas countries have been hurt by the amount of pleasure seeking doctrines that went into their countries. Many 3rd world Pastors gave sacrificially out of their extreme poverty to rich American ‘pleasure seekers’ and their poor people suffered greatly when they did not get a literal 100 fold return as was promised. Paul said ‘we that are strong ought to help the weak, and not please ourselves’. [parts] CHRISTIAN- MUSLIM DIALOGUE Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. The catch phrase for it was ‘Ad Fontes’ meaning ‘back to the sources’- both in philosophy- as well as in Christian learning. This began a revival of studying the Greek New testament again from its original language. The Catholic Humanist- Desiderius Erasmus [15-16th century] – re introduced the New Testament in the Greek version [He was referred to as a Dutch renaissance Humanist- as well as a Catholic Priest and scholar] Now- Erasmus was a critic of the Church- like Luther- but chose a ‘middle road’- he did not join the breakaway Protestant Reformers- but chose to stay within the fold of Rome- while speaking out against the abuses he saw. But his first Greek translation of the New Testament did indeed set a spark- because it allowed the Priests to see the bible in its original language. And Luther was actually teaching this book of Romans to his students in Germany when the Reformation began. Today the Catholic Church [as you can see in the official Catechism that I have been posting] does indeed teach the bible as God’s Word. The divisions between Protestants and Catholics are many- but they did agree that the bible was the Word of God. Some Protestants do not know this- they think the church holds Tradition higher than the bible. No- the church does believe that God speaks both thru tradition- and scripture. They see the tradition of the church as simply another means by which God uses the church [Magisterium] to explain scripture- but the Catholic Church does not elevate tradition over the bible. And indeed- it was a catholic scholar- Erasmus- who introduced the first Geek version of the New Testament. NOTE- Erasmus disagreed with Luther on the doctrine of Predestination- which I covered in the last video. Luther was for it- Erasmus was what we would call ‘Free Will’. In his writings- which were very influential- he wrote in Greek and Latin- the language of the elites. He did this on purpose- for his target was the influential leaders of the Church. He rejected offers of money- because he did not want to align himself with any particular movement- so he could be an independent writer with no strings attached. He had many criticisms of the Catholic Church- and was very influential for the later reforms- those we see at the Council of Trent [Though the church criticized him- they said he ‘Laid the egg that hatched the Reformation’]. He taught that the church/priests/popes should be the servants of the people- He rejected the idea that the Priests/leaders made up the ‘whole of the church’- but he believed all believers made up the true church. Erasmus was a firebrand in his own way- rejecting the language that Luther and some of the reformers used [they were vulgar at times]- Luther respected the works of Erasmus- he thanked Erasmus for debating with him on the nature of Justification by Faith- He disagreed in the end- but said this debate was at the heart of the gospel- and was glad that Erasmus was willing to engage.
RENAISSANCE ARTISTS- The famous renaissance artists- DaVinci- Michelangelo- Raphael- used their artwork as a form of knowledge- the images taught things- they were not just paintings. DaVinci’s most famous work was his painting on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel in the Vatican. It took him 4 years to complete. The renaissance period- from about the 13/14th century to the 17th- [though there was a sort of Renaissance that took place- yes- in the Islamic world before the European Renaissance] was marked by what we term Humanism. Today we associate this term with ‘secular Humanism’ which often has a bad connotation- especially among Christians. But it meant something different back then. It was a new focus on breaking the limits off of man- and for man to excel in knowledge and skill- and to see man as having value. There was somewhat of a break away from the church in a sense- in that the church and its teachings were not the only source of wisdom for man. But- Jesus himself taught that ‘the Sabbath was made for man- not man for the Sabbath’- so- the Humanist spirit- elevating the value of man- does have a Christian basis in my view. Leonardo daVinci [15/16th century] was what we refer to as a true Renaissance man- meaning his knowledge was in many fields- not just art. He actually considered himself a sculptor first- then an artist- though he is most famous for his Fresco mentioned above. Here’s my study on The Reformation- https://ccoutreach87.com/protestant-reformation-luther/ And my past teaching on the Western intellectual tradition- https://ccoutreach87.com/western-intellectual-tradition/
VERSES- Isaiah 42:19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blindas the LORD’s servant? Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 2 Corinthians 5:7 [Full Chapter] (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. 14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? [parts] (1335) GALATIANS 5- Paul’s main theme is if we possess the Spirit as believers [being indwelt by God’s Spirit] then let us also walk in/by the Spirit, as opposed to trying to please God by the law and being circumcised. Paul will use the somewhat controversial term ‘ye are fallen from grace’ which simply means that these Gentile believers started by faith and went back to the old Jewish system, much like the themes in the book of Hebrews. Paul says when you go back to the law you have left grace. Christ has ‘become of no effect to you, you who are justified by the law’. This is a good example of how words and certain phrases can develop over the centuries of church history and develop a different meaning over time. In essence the bible does teach that a person can ‘fall from grace’ but this does not describe what the modern reader might think. The first church father who attempted to formulate the Christian doctrine of the Trinity was a man named Tertullian, he lived in the second century and was what theologians refer to as one of the Latin fathers [as opposed to the Greek ones- Origen, etc.] Tertullian was famous for the sayings ‘what does Jerusalem have to do with Athens’ and ‘I believe because it is absurd’ he was resisting the influence of Greek philosophy on the church, he felt that Greek wisdom was influencing the church too much. He was trained in law before becoming a theologian [like Luther and Calvin of 16th century Reformation fame] and he used the words ‘God is one substance/essence and also three persons’ later church councils would agree with this language. But the word ‘person’ at Tertullian’s time was the Latin word ‘personi’ which was taken from the theater and meant a person/actor who would put on different masks during the play; the word had a little different meaning then what we think of today as ‘person’. Later centuries would come to condemn certain Christian groups who seem to have formulated language on the Trinity that expresses the same thing as what the original developer of the doctrine meant to say, but because words and their meanings change over time we get ourselves into disputes that might be getting us off track. Paul also tells the Galatians that if they become circumcised that they are obligating themselves to keep all the law. Of course the medical procedure that many have done in our day is not what he is speaking about, but in Paul’s day getting circumcised was the religious rite that placed you into the religion of Judaism, and this is what Paul is refuting among the Galatians, he tells them not to go down that road. This chapter has lots of good ‘memory verses’, the famous lists of the works of the flesh versus the fruit of the Spirit are found here, and it seems pretty clear to me that Paul identified circumcision with the moral law of the 10 commandments, that is he saw being circumcised as an act that obligated you to ‘keep all the law’ some theologians are discussing whether or not Paul meant the law of Moses when speaking about going ‘back under the law’ some think Paul was speaking only of the ceremonial law and the system of animal sacrifices when he was telling the gentiles that they should not go under the law, I believe if you read Paul in context both in this letter and the book of Romans, that he is speaking of the moral law too, not just the ceremonial law. All in all Paul exhorts these believers to fight for their right to be free from the past restraints of religion and bondage, he tells them to not desire to go back under a system of bondage, that Christ has made us free from that legalistic way of life and he has liberated us by giving us the Holy Spirit- if we ‘walk in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, for the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh, and these two are contrary one to the other, so that you cannot do the things that you would’ amen to that. Mark 5:30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? Mark 5:31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? Mark 5:32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. Mark 5:33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. Mark 5:34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. Mark 5:35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? Mark 5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. Mark 5:37 And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. Mark 5:38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. Mark 5:39 And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. Mark 5:40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. Mark 5:41 And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. Mark 5:42 And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. Mark 5:43 And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat. Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. Matthew 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. Matthew 4:21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. Matthew 4:22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him. James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Amen. In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil. Psalm 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than theangels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations Hebrews 2:7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: In Context | Full Chapter | Other Translations Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower thanthe angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 1 Thessalonians 5 [Full Chapter] But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. …

Fan Fiction Quotes 2018:
"'Interplanet Janet' is part of why I became an astrophysicist," Jane says." [X]
"Castiel, angel of the lord, has knitted a fully functional winter hat, and Dean doesn’t seem to be offended by it."[X]Tumblr
"you look like you could use either a hug or a mercy killing. And I don’t wanna get blood on this knife, I just cleaned it.”[Tumblr post]
"Oh, no, you don't. Not in my lab. This lab is an intimacy-free zone, it says so on the door. Does it? I'm putting a sign on that door. Get out of my lab, ingrates. Don't make me sic the robots on you.""[X]lol
"You guys? I'm serious. Dum-E has a fire extinguisher and you know how he loves using it...""[X]and then they ran gleefully
"He has to admit it’s a pretty magnificent feeling, on top of everything else today, to know that Steve will take care of him, whatever he needs."[X]not my thing, and yet the emotion/caring involved appeals to me...
"Steve, I know this is hard for you to believe, because you’re a pretty hardcore martyr, but I and a lot of other people love you and we want to take care of you. You’re not a burden."[X]you are not a burden. "The oatmeal that your loving boyfriend made for you. You should eat it.” He takes a spoonful and holds it in front of Steve. “You want me to make choo choo noises?”"[X]lol, I would not want choo choo noises!
'we said we loved each other. .... And then he force fed me oatmeal.'[X]paraphrased from a companion piece to the last two quotes. The response: "Well, he definitely sounds like a keeper." also: the last cat video
"You know, it’s okay if you are jealous. I know they don’t put that down as one of the attributes on Captain America’s action figure box, but human Steve gets to be jealous and mad and scared sometimes."[X]good thing to remember, just because people have one image of you doesn't mean you aren't allowed to feel other things "remembers hurting all the time. It made everything else fuzzy, harder to deal with. "[X]relatable
"Bucky is so beautiful, with a few lines around his mouth and the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles, those eyes so blue Steve’s searched for years for the right combination of colors and hasn’t been able to replicate the color. "[X]The song "Crayola doesn't make a color for your eyes"! I need to comment this to the author! Done.
"After everything they’ve been through, asking them to carry some of his weight feels selfish."[X]I know the feeling. It's part of why it took me so long to admit I needed any help, stuck on why do I deserve it.
"Steve has always moved slightly left of reality, where he prances like a goddamn circus pony in battle but collapses like a pile of bricks when he’s trying so hard to be sensual."[X]relatable, not the battle part, but sometimes I can be unexpectedly graceful. Unfinished fic because it really wasn't my thing at all.
"Sam’s been a tremendous help to Bucky’s recovery, and at least half of that comes from the way he takes care of Steve, too"[X]Sam does a lot for them
"Bucky had declared, I'm making you a damn sandwich, Steve, and you're gonna eat it, and Steve had shot back, fine, then I'm making you one; pass the bread, jerk."[X]that's a compromise I guess "“Quit blaming yourself,” he commanded. Steve took a drink to avoid answering and Bucky flicked water at him. “Bad soldier,” he scolded, mimicking the animal training show they were a little obsessed with. Steve rolled his eyes."[X]imagine someone with a spray bottle every time Steve got mopey or maytr like.
"Doctors have been telling Steve his problems are all in his head since day one. Bucky doesn’t much care for doctors."[X]relatable on both accounts
"And hell if Tony can deny the cuteness of it all."[X]not much of a stand alone quote but I needed to do something with it!
"Oh, the beanstalk will be to get me in bed, is that it?” Bucky winked. “Won’t take any beanstalk but the one you got between—"[X]lol! Fairytale innuendo! Goofy but fun and a reminder that Snow White came out in their time (that phrasing sounds like she's lesbian or bi)
"Above hangs a calculated grid of fairy lights, punctuated at regular intervals with simple paper lanterns."[X]sounds pretty. I'm a lighting nerd I guess.
"there’s a line between stupid and suicidal, and that’s where i live. "[Tumblr post, under keep reading ] much amusing, and this version of the post gas art ;)
"Hux stared at him, wondering how much more cliche this moment could get, and trying not to blush because he was utterly charmed by it."[ch: 4]it was kinda giving me a almost pretty in pink vibe "Remember, Ben? We were going to pick up some wood for the project, and measure some lengths to make sure everything will fit in the back."[ch X]omg, the innuendo
"But people getting help – real help – to live their lives – it’s easy to think about that being good when it comes to other people. It’s hard thinking about that for yourself."[X]another quote that makes me think of that one Dresden files quote - it really is a common sentiment " It can mean a lot when us mere mortals are feeling particularly down that even those with greater than human capabilities struggle with the same issues."[X]YES!
"upon himself to organize the whole thing, down to bullying the party supply store into making balloon arrangements with a superhero-ballerina-archaeologist theme"[X]draw?
"Kylo, I'm not doing this because I'm ‘dealing with’ you. I love you and I want to be able to you to help you when you need it."[X]good relationship! I kinda like the series?
"Bruce says imperfections are signs of a life well lived."[X]comment
"It was a small square. DOVE PROMISES was emblazoned on the foil. There was chocolate inside, and Bucky took the foil from him and smoothed it out before handing it back. TAKE TIME FOR YOU, it advised him. He gave Bucky a flat look and Bucky started laughing again. Steve couldn’t help how warm the sound made his chest feel."[X]laughter is the best medicine "I want a picture of two great world wonders."[X]awww sweet and cheesy! "[Bucky]“Laughing at a guy’s insults. You born in a barn or something?” [Steve]“I’m not the one whose last name is Barnes."[X]lol! "“I got it from Dr. Dove,” Steve admitted, and he didn’t hide the smile that stole across his face at Bucky’s laugh."[X]what he got: “Well, I can’t change the past,” he said. “But I can enjoy the present.” "Well, when you think literally everything is your fault, it makes you pull out those sad puppy eyes, and then the rest of us have to deal with feeling like we’re the reason Captain America looks like a golden retriever who just got yelled at. Asshole."[X]that's how caring about people can make you an unpleasant person. "“Can you hold these?” Bucky asked, pushing the souvenir bag into one of Steve’s hands. “And this?” He put his hand in Steve’s other hand."[X]these being souvenirs
"Steven, dearest, hath thee any 5s?"[X]while playing Go Fish and batting his eyelashes.
"It suits all of them, he thinks but doesn’t say, this trio held together by duct tape and determination and a hell of alot of target practice."[X]Clint, Kate and Lucky the dog.
"Another is a nude, Sherlock in one of his favorite sitting poses with one knee up and his hands wrapped around it, the other leg dangling toward the floor. "[X]the imagery/pose
"Sweet, studious, nervous little Mitaka. Who would never stand head and shoulder above anyone. Who would never take undue risks or tell your secrets. Reasonable, reliable Dopheld Mitaka. Who would never get mad or lash out and always react with kindness and understanding and who could never be impolite and always got the job done. Never thought of himself first. Who only got ahead in life when others failed. Who would always sit quietly and never argue. Never fight back. Never do anything special but who was always useful in his own way until you grew tired of him. Who would never argue when you decided to move on from him. Always stayed down after you’d thrown him there. Who always did the right thing and would never be worth anyone’s."[ch:1]you're such a good listener *bitter feeling*
"he said it was the most painful thing he’d ever felt, the supersoldier easy bake experience included. "[X]very amusing tumblr!
"You are far too modest, my little lightning sister."[X]Thor has some great compliments! "Tony, remember how we talked about the importance of using your words instead of doing weird megalomaniac billionaire things? This was one of those times."[X]i love fan fiction giving us more Darcy!! "Brucie! You know all those times you told us that you weren’t a medical doctor? This is going to be another one of those times where we ignore you."[X]lol "You’re saying that because you think I’ll balance out Steve, aren’t you? I get to be good cop to his bad cop. The fun aunt to his stick-in-the-mud dad routine."[X]hell yeah!
"But [Ben] also learned some less practical things from Artoo.” [Stick that in your dataport and process it!]"[X]nanny C3PO and bad influence R2D2
" quiet of the corridor had begun to make Hux’s ears ring with phantom static"[X]thanks for the words! (As I experience this as I read instead of sleep with a headache.
"I’m sulking, Ren. It’s remarkable you don’t recognize it in another person."[X]sass!
"I’ll add you to the list of approved pillows."[X]cute, sweet and funny fic! Also, check out the author's other Darcy fics! "Good morning to my favorite terrifyingly competent duo, reunited once more."[X]comment
"Hux: "Hey, Kylo, are you sure you're not of the Light Side?" Kylo: "Yes, why?!" Hux: "Because you blind me every time I look at you.""[X]cheesy flirting
" i figured, if she could keep tony from accidentally getting himself killed while rocketing around in a stainless steel onesie, she can talk steve into occasionally actually using a parachute. "[X]bribing Pepper to scold National heroes...
"Bucky looks. He looks for what feels like five solid minutes. Steve’s mind can be a strange place, and it’s not always easy to see where he gets his ideas"[X]my boyfriend can probably relate to this "Except Bucky is almost sure Joseph Rogers never wrapped himself in the American flag and went out to lift a car. Definitely not a shiny red convertible with a license plate that reads CAPTAM, and three chorus girls beaming from the open roof."[X]to draw. "Howling Commandos—they called us Captain America’s legendary strike force, though I really must say that we were just a rabble of con artists with no sense of self-preservation—he was right there next to Steve."[X]yep "But for the record, I like the idea of a smart, scrawny kid living on his wits a lot more than a super-fast, super-strong, deathless demi-god. I relate to that a hell of a lot "[X]comment "Steve might not see reds and greens exactly right, but he’s got all his paint tubes and coloured pencils labelled with painstaking care, and his mathematical mind processes RGB values and hexadecimal codes just fine. "[X]the nerd in me likes this
"but one time he borrowed my dont-touch-me black leather motorcycle jacket and managed to make that look badass for a little while. and then he let a little girl in central park facepaint a sunflower on his left cheek, which pretty much spoiled and sort of badass look he might have been managing. which wasnt much, because he was still wearing khakis."[X]draw
"Knowing that these two men, these goddamned heroes, they love him enough to seehim, enough to take his burden as their own, just for a little while, just so he can rest – it overwhelms him."[X]comment
"Don’t worry. I’ll put him on the stealth team, then only Natasha and Clint’ll have to deal with him, and they’re not afraid to drug a friend."[X]adrenaline leads to talkative Bucky
"Improbably, Parker had found a bag of marshmallows and was using what looked like some kind of electricity-based torture device to toast one over the fire."[X]warning post Leverage finale "Oh, the FBI's giving you grief? Shit, that's no problem. Parker and I are FBI agents."[X]lol
"No stabbity. Social problem, man, you'd hear me yelling if we had a stabbing problem"[X]the joys of having two very different jobs i guess ;)
"Parker put on her red light-up nose and beamed at him, the most lethal reindeer of all."[X]yep! Very Parker - cute and deadly!
"[Peggy Carter is] famous. She’s like the patron saint of women who do things they’re not supposed to do,"[X]comment
"Me and my clockwork boyfriends,” Steve said affectionately. “You two just stay there and charge up; I want round two after breakfast.”"[X]tumblr, copperbadge
"His rumbling, gruff voice warmed Hardison like the artisanal spiced latte he’d perfected for the pub."[X]comment "Just feel how good it is, being together, safe and warm and happy. We’re gonna take good care of you, darlin, love you like you deserve."[X]'really, it’s what the touch means.' "Parker had built such strong defenses, she didn’t know how to crack them."[X]the words! "When it’s just me and Alec, it’s like, I can’t stop thinking. There I am, there he is. I love him, and I want it to be so good, and it can’t be because my brain just goes faster and faster and I can’t feel "[X]words
"Eliot,” he starts, and that’s his gentle voice, the voice he uses on scared clients and Parker when she’s having a melt down."[X]he being Hardison "You’ve left before. We all leave every once in awhile. But you always come back. For us."[X]yeah, sometimes space is needed
"We haven’t fucked in five days and my balls are as blue as Neptune.” “That’s not a description I needed, Barnes,” Sam calls from the open door two flights above them. “Well, blame Steve,” he calls back, “It’s his fucking fault, or his not fucking, really.” "[X]lol
"Steve can barely use Google; Bucky loves Twitter and all things social media. Instagram is the greatest invention in the entire future."[ch1?]where he picked up "as if" "“Ma’am,” is all Bucky can really think to say because he figures this is Wanda and he doesn’t’ like pretty women being afraid of him. Likes it less when they’re practically kids."[ch3]comment "They aren’t afraid of you. They’re afraid of your power being used by someone without your heart.”"[ch3]Awww "Bucky finds himself an empty corner. Sitting against the wall, he pulls his knees to his chest so no one steps on him."[X]relatable
"“And totally lewd.” Yuuri corrects, “anyway, it’s embarrassing.” “Oh, Yuuri.” Sighing, Viktor angles his head to kiss his silly boyfriend. “I’m just trying to get you to see yourself the way I see you." "[X]...
"That explains why Cap keeps looking like a kid lost at a county fair crossed with an angry doberman."[ch1]lol
"Sam, Bucky's been sighted in Budapest, I packed your toothbrush with your socks by accident."[X]comment "Sam's starting to suspect his comic book collection may have lied to him when it came to just how brotherly that relationship was, but hey, no judgement. Only mild concern."[X]comment
"that Bruce is convinced that he deserves about as much trust from everyone else as he gives himself. It’s the difficulty of letting yourself get vulnerable after so many years of being in solitude and having no one."[X]relatable to a degree
"Drachenfutter: (German)- literally “dragon fodder”, the gift a husband gives his wife when he’s trying to make up for bad behavior"[X]dragon fodder is much more fun than dog house! Maybe he's in the dragon den? "“Go on and run yourself out, I’ll meet you on the grass in 45 minutes,” Sam told him. No further prompting needed, Steve took off running."[X]Sam is a great bro "That you’ve ever done something so reckless even a mentally challenged clam would know better?"[X]ha! "And you ran around getting in fights like a snapping turtle on roller skates even before"[X]amusing
"In Bible times, a man would strike with the back of the hand, to show power over someone else. It was a gesture of contempt as well as aggression. But,” he waved his hand to the other side, “If after being struck with the back of the hand, his opponent turned his head and offered the other cheek, the aggressor would have no choice but to strike with the palm—not as a man might beat his oxen, but the way one fights with an equal. So, without raising a hand in retaliation, the persecuted demands to be treated with dignity.”"[X]sounds believable "Wrath is a sin. When we let our anger consume us, when we feed it, tend it the way we should be tending the good in our lives, then it is a sin. Anger and violence are like a river, they can nourish or they can destroy. It’s up to you to determine which.”"[ch1]interesting philosophy "You are still a good man, Captain Rogers. Doubt and anger may hide that from you, but they are shadows, they cannot destroy something as solid and tangible as a soul.""[ch2]comment "Being angry at a man is easy. You forgive him or you do not. Either way, that anger is clear and direct. Being angry at an institution, a country, a church— there is no one place to direct that anger. It scatters like light through a prism. The only thing to do is to decide whether the institution is, at its core, worth saving"[ch2]more philosophy
"All of a sudden, Yuri, without thinking about it very hard, had let all the pieces of agape slip into place inside his head and his heart. His дедушка. Lilia and Yakov. Otabek. Even the piggy and fucking Viktor. No matter how much he yelled and thrashed at him, they were there for him. He wasn’t quite ready to use the word “love” (except *maybe* for дедушка), but he could see. He could understand. He already had friends. Not that he’d ever let any of those fuckers know "[ch1]lol "the words that came out of Yuri’s mouth frequently required translation from angry kitten to human being, and he was determined to begin work on a dictionary. "[ch1]yup! Followed by awww
"He probably looks 9 times as beautiful when it’s just him, just skin, endless scars that all tell his story, that all tell the world ‘I survived’."[X]remember, you're a survivor
"“When you encounter difficulties and contradictions, do not try to break them, but bend them with gentleness and time.”"[X]Francois de Sales ""Have patience with every one, but especially with yourself. Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections.""[X]Francois de Sales "I’ve been patient, I am patient, and I’m trying but it’s just so hard"[X]Bucky, i relate "Steve takes several deeps breaths in and out and reminds himself that Bucky’s not angry with him, he’s angry near him."[X]Steve, I also relate ""True progress quietly and persistently moves along without notice.""[X]Francois de Sales
"Less talking,” Yuuri pants, tilting his head and hoping Victor will get the message, “more hickeys for me to regret next time I go out in public."[X]comment
"It had been incredibly difficult for Yuuri to try and explain to Viktor that no, there was nothing really wrong, and yet everything was wrong all at once"[X]relatable
"Yūri couldn’t sleep. He twisted and turned in his bed, pulling the sheets up, pushing them back down, stretching out, curling into a ball… it was no use. He couldn’t get comfortable."[X]the words! "When Yūri was dealing with something, he tended to deal with it alone. He didn’t like people thinking he was weak, or that he couldn’t cope"[X]oh...
"As King, there was no reason he had to train the knights himself but according to Arthur, clanking swords and working up a sweat was quite the remedy for the stress of being King."[X]reminds me of my boyfriend.
"Probably because you’re always too distracted by Merlin’s pretty mouth on your cock, husband mine.”"[X]oh. Merlin was shocked by her language!
"Are you undressing my future wife, Merlin?" "Well it is my job to serve, my lord,” [Merlin] said. "[X]cheeky! Good thing he likes him
"And secondly, if getting righteously dicked down by you is going to interfere with my skating, I’m just going to have to learn to do quads with a sore ass."[X]comment
"The only better view is @katsuki-y “Awwww, you’re too good to me,” Victor purred and left the caption, posting it. “I feel like I’m complimenting myself,” Yuuri protested weakly. “As well you should,” Victor answered, "[X]remember. My boyfriend and me.
"No. It was very unfashionable. You were very attractive, though. And your lack of inhibitions regarding clothing was very fashion-forward."[X]amusing, regarding Yurii's tie at THE banquet...
"John had taken days to convince that this could work, but once he’d had his little protest about ‘normal’, he had accepted that he was no more normal than Mary or Sherlock, though marginally better at faking it, "[X]you can fake normal but why? This is the declaration of the marriage between William Sherlock Scott Holmes And John Hamish Watson And Mary Elizabeth Morstan Each one to the other two In love and trust In respect and faith We will all three be true to each other Be friends to each other Cherish each other We will stand by each other And for each other And with each other The secrets of our pasts are our own to keep. The challenges of our future Are our privilege to share We choose each other, we three We choose this life together
"‘Oh yes. My brother. So lovable it takes two people to do it properly"[ch3] "Mrs Holmes’s cheeks dimpled at the way her littlest boy’s eyes lit up and he kept on smiling at his … spice, even though he pretended to be annoyed at all the fuss." Plural of spouse...
"Gwen’s ladies-in-waiting worked hard for her, and they were entitled to the treat of seeing Merlin’s sweet little rounded ass in form-fitting clothing."[x] amusing
"Bet you didn't think you'd be adopting a hyperactive genius and two incredibly attractive senior citizens."
And I see you have your GPS set on me." Bucky nods at Steve’s boxers, and only when Steve looks down does he notice his obvious morning wood jutting out in Bucky’s general direction."[x] "I know it’s just in my head, Steve, but that doesn’t make it any less real!" [Same]
“Your face is true art.”[x]low effort come back to popular art "...how the hell did this happen, it’s Wednesday, she’s retired, and Stella didn’t even do anything this time." [Same] Stucky double genderbent
"Casual touches tended to have that effect on him, and it always tugged at her heart that someone so fundamentally sweet and kind, for all he liked to cover it up, should be so surprised by gestures of affection."[x]relatable
"Steve may not take the best care of himself, but he will never fail to take care of someone he considers a responsibility. Plus, you turned it into a challenge.”[ch3] spot on! "There were two circumstances when he seemed to retreat behind Cap’s shield for safety. Not the physical one, but the emotional equivalent."[ch4] "This kinda thing, though, that’s different. Abstract art boils things down to their basic concepts. A good artist gives you the structure and framework of the story, the tone and mood, but they don’t give you the words. The viewer has to tell the story themselves, and that means it’s always personal. Maybe different every time someone looks at the painting. The artist isn’t telling you a story, they’re giving you one.”[ch4] "In the past few weeks she’d come to realize that he avoided touch almost as much as she did, and yet longed for the contact no less than her. For different reasons, both in the avoidance and the need, but that didn’t make the desire any less real."[ch4] “But it’s yours, and means something to you, yes?” She smiled at him. “So it will mean more to me than the prettiest painting from a stranger.”[ch4] "It made sense that to her, the mind would be the defining feature, rather than appearance."[ch5] "Wanda had lived in the midst of danger for so long, she’d forgotten what it felt like to be sheltered and protected. The sensation was addicting,"[ch7]either that or it can be confusing to have someone to lean on after much time struggling to be independent
“Sometimes I wonder,” he admitted, sighing. “Sam asked me once what makes me happy, and I couldn’t answer him. I still can’t, beyond ‘helping people’. “Then let’s find out, together,” Wanda suggested, catching his hand in hers and holding tight. “We can start with your favourite movie.””[ch3]
