Two years ago to the day marked your first date with your now fiancé. You had met Beau Arlen a few months before that date, and he had finally asked you out after several weeks of pining over you. You worked at a bakery in town walking distance from the station, and once you two started dating you often brought over baked goods for your boyfriend and his deputies.
Six months ago Beau had asked you to marry him, and you said yes. The wedding would be in just a couple more months.
Now, you were once again at the Sheriff’s station, Beau was taking you out for your two-years-dating and six-months-engaged anniversaries. Well, actually you were taking him out. He’d been really busy the last couple of weeks so you had planned the date; a picnic in the same spot he’d proposed to you at.
“Sheriff, Y/n is here to see you,” a deputy told him, poking their head into Beau’s office. Poppernak and Hoyt were in the office as well and they were all discussing an ongoing case.
“Let her in!” Beau beamed, covering a few gory pictures he had splayed on his desk.
“Hey,” you said when you walked into his office.
Beau’s face lit up at the sight of you; such a gorgeous woman who had somehow fallen in love with him. He felt like the luckiest man in the world as he eyed you, still smiling. You wore a summery floral dress that brushed your ankles, with a slit going up your leg and ending just below your left hip. A plunging neckline accented your breasts and the necklace Beau had gifted to you last anniversary. Your hair was done up, but not in a way that felt uncomfortable; it looked elegant but still felt laid back. Blood rushed to your cheeks when you noticed his blush.
“Ready to go?” you asked him, motioning to the door a little. His face fell and you slowly matched his expression.
“Shit,” he mumbled.
“You forgot.” You nodded, biting the inside of your cheek with disappointment.
“Could you two give us a minute?” Beau asked the deputies in the room.
“Yeah, do you want us to go without you?” Jenny asked, referring to what they’d been discussing about taking down the current perp.
“No, I’ll be out in a minute,” he told her before she nodded and left the room; Poppernak followed close behind, and shut the door as he walked out.
“You really forgot?” you asked Beau, looking at him with hurt in your eyes.
“I’m so sorry, Y/n I just got caught up in today’s case,” he said. He stood up from his chair and walked over to you, putting a hand under your chin so you’d look at him. “I swear I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s okay, I understand,” you said quietly, smiling a little.
Beau furrowed his brows. “Why aren’t you mad?” he asked, you just shrugged a little. “Shit, you’re really mad, aren’t you? You wanna yell at me but we’re in a very public place so you’re waiting until tonight to really let me have it-”
“No,” you laughed a little. “Beau, I’m not mad at you. I’m disappointed you forgot but that’s just because I was really looking forward to spending time with you! I had this whole thing planned and everything,” you said, mumbling a little by the end.
“A whole thing, huh?” Beau smiled.
“A picnic in the park where you proposed to me. I baked you a special pie, too.”
“Fuck, I’m so sorry I fucked it up, hun.”
“It’s okay,” you assured him, he still didn’t seem to believe you. “You can make it up to me tonight, how’s that?”
“Oh?”
“Mhm,” you bit your bottom lip as you looked into his bright green eyes, “you can do that one thing I really like, then you’ll be completely forgiven.”
“Oh that thing,” he smirked, “yeah, I will gladly do that.”
He bent down and kissed you, snaking his arms around your hips to bring you closer as your hands went into his hair.
“I love you, Beau.”
“I love you too, Y/n.”
Poppernak knocked on the door and poked his head in, “Sorry to interrupt, but we really have to get going, Arlen.” Beau put his hand up, showing a finger to signal he’d be done in a minute.
“I’ll see you tonight, okay?” he mumbled against your lips. “I promise I’ll make it up to you.”
“Mhm,” you hummed into his mouth as he kissed you again.
“I’ll be home by eight, nine at the latest, ten at the absolute latest, okay?” he assured you, you nodded. “Love you!” He kissed you one last time before he left, putting his cowboy hat on when he opened the door.
“Love you, too.”

As the clock struck midnight, you sank deeper into the couch. Your tear filled eyes were glued to the screen as you watched the movie you’d picked; Die Hard. Not the perfect anniversary movie but there was a whole story behind why you’d picked it, having to do with your third date with Beau.
You took another sip of the wine you’d been working on and checked your phone. Still nothing from Beau. The nerve! The absolute audacity this man had! He couldn’t text or call you when he knew he’d be late?
You adjusted yourself on the couch, the babydoll dress you were wearing riding up your bare thighs as a few more tears slipped down your cheeks. You looked away from Bruce Willis and down at the beautiful ring on your finger. Memories of six months ago flooded your mind. How Beau had been so nervous the whole day, as if there was a chance you’d tell him ‘no.’ How he looked at you when he knelt down and opened the velvet box and popped the question. How his smile grew when you answered him.
The front door unlocked, pulling you out of your thoughts, before Beau stepped into your shared house. He walked into the living room and found you there in the dark.
“Hey, Y/n,” he said, walking to the couch and sitting down. You didn’t answer him and instead just took another sip of wine. “I’m really, really sorry, sweetheart.”
“There’s leftovers in the fridge,” you muttered, putting the wine down. “Pie, too.”
“Darlin’ I’m so, so sorry I promise I didn’t mean to stay out so late. The case ran long-”
“And you couldn’t fucking call me?” you exclaimed. “You couldn’t just let me know two hours ago you weren’t gonna make it!? You know how many fucking candles I wasted!?”
“I broke my phone tackling the guy and I came straight here after he was officially in custody,” he told you.
“And do none of your many deputies have a phone you could borrow? Not a single person near you had a fucking cell phone?”
“I’m sorry, I’m so fucking sorry! Hun, I am so god damn sorry!” He reached out and took your hand in his. You let him bring it to his lips and place a kiss on your knuckles. “Please, I love you so much, can we please just celebrate together for a bit before we go to sleep?”
“Our anniversary is over, Beau.” You took your hand back. “You fucking missed it.”
“Actually, today’s an anniversary too,” he whispered, you turned your head to finally look at him. He knitted his brows apologetically when he noticed your tears. “A year ago today, we were sitting on this couch and we had just finished watching Die Hard. You leaned over to kiss me, and as I was kissing you, you mumbled ‘let’s watch the next one.’ And, in that moment, something just like clicked in my brain, and I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“What?” you mumbled.
“Yep. Exactly one year ago today, I decided to ask you to marry me.” He smiled but it faded when he noticed fresh tears falling. “No, shit! Please don’t cry!”
“That is when you decided to marry me?” you asked, he nodded. “Oh my god!”
“A-Are you happy right now or are you still mad at me, because-” You cut him off with a kiss to his full, pink lips.
“I love you so much, Beau,” you whispered when you pulled away. You kissed him again, putting your hands on his face and smiling against his mouth.
“Love you so much more,” he mumbled, mirroring your smile.
“Wait,” you pulled away, worry in your eyes, “when was the last time you ate?”
“Uh, three-ish, why?”
“Oh my god, you must be starving!” you exclaimed and stood up. You held out your hand for him to take. “C’mon, I’ll reheat the food for you and relight the candles.”
“Seriously?” he asked, smiling and beginning to realize you’d forgiven him for coming home so late.
“Yeah, we’ve got a new anniversary to celebrate,” you replied. He stood up and took your hand, bending down to kiss you again. He followed you to the kitchen.
“Can I say something about what you’re wearing now or…” He bit his lip when you twirled to face him before you nodded. “God damn you’re so beautiful! Your tits look incredible!”
“You’re not too bad yourself, handsome.” You gripped his collar, got on your tippy toes, and kissed him deeply. He wrapped his arms around you so you couldn’t pull away and he could kiss you back. “I love you, Beau.”
“I love you, too.”
“Now, c’mon! Sit down,” you said when you finally pulled away and his grip loosened. He took a seat at the table and you couldn’t stop yourself from playing with his hair. You ran your fingers through it before tilting his head back so you could kiss him again.
As you turned to reheat the food he smacked your ass lightly, making you squeal a little.
“Where’s the lighter?” he asked, wanting to light the candles on the table.
“Under the left candlestick,” you told him, bending down into the fridge to get the tupperware of food.
“Wow, you’re gonna be the death of me, darlin’,” he mumbled. He lifted up the left candle to find the small lighter hidden underneath. He lit the two candles before he put it back.
“You remember what we ate on our first date, right?” you asked him hesitantly.
“Yes, I do,” he replied, earning a suspicious look from you. “I tried cooking spaghetti and meatballs for you, but I completely botched it. So, we ordered in from that Italian place on the other side of town—this delicious chicken parmesan dish with a side of ravioli. While we were waiting for the food, you made us a salad.”
You smiled at him, biting your bottom lip a little.
“Happy two year anniversary, Beau,” you said as you brought two plates over, one filled with the same food as your first date, except you made it yourself. “I can’t promise this is gonna taste nearly as good, but I promise it was made with love.” You took a seat next to him as he took a bite of the chicken.
“Oh my god!” he practically moaned. “This is incredible, sweetheart!”
“Thank you.” You smiled and began eating the salad on your plate. (You’d already eaten dinner but you didn’t want to just watch him eat without eating a little something yourself.) “Oh! I almost forgot the champagne!”
You stood up and got the bottle from the fridge before pouring some into his glass and then your own.
“Happy two year anniversary, Y/n,” he said and lifted his glass to clink it with yours.
“Happy one year of wanting to marry me,” you replied and tapped your glass to his.
“And six months of being engaged,” he reminded you.

You two were back on the couch, watching Die Hard even though it was now nearly one. Beau didn’t have work in the morning so he didn’t feel the need to rush to bed.
“Remember our third date?” he asked you quietly, his breath fanning your ear. His arm was wrapped around your shoulders and you were leaning on his chest. He kissed the back of your head as you intertwined his fingers with your own.
“We were watching this movie outside your trailer,” you started. “We were sharing a blanket and I kissed you. It escalated when you moved your hand down…” you took his hand and lowered it toward your torso, “here.”
“Then I kissed you here,” he kissed your neck, “and here,” he kissed down to your collarbone. He turned you around so you could straddle his hips.
“It was cold outside so you didn’t want to get me naked until we were inside and on your bed,” you mumbled against his lips. “So… want to move this into the bedroom?”
“If I remember correctly, you took your bra off under your shirt when we were still outside,” he reminded you.
“I did,” you said, still kissing him, “but I’m not wearing a bra right now.”
“But you are wearing panties.”
He stood up, causing you to do the same. He sat back down and ran his hands up your legs and under your lingerie. He smirked up at you before pulling down your panties which you then stepped out of.
“Alright, now we can move this to the bedroom.” He wrapped his arms around your waist as he stood up, lifting you as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
He carried you upstairs and into the bedroom, kicking the door with his foot.
“Did you put roses on the bed?” he asked, smiling against your mouth when he noticed the petals decorating the mattress and the floor leading up to it.
“You did the same thing last year,” you reminded him, also smiling.

It's so funny when some fans can literally point out how Will loves and appreciates Mike for who he is unconditionally as a form of byler endgame proof (and anti mlvn proof). Yet when it comes to their own fanon interpretations of his character, suddenly Will is perpetually annoyed with Mike for no reason.
Fanon Mike is chacterized as an annoying loser who, by the grace of god, was allowed to have friends who tolerate him, but not without letting him know he's annoying. And Will? He's the Chief Ambassador of the Neutralizing Mike Comittee (The NMC™) who forever has to remind Mike that had he not said yes to being his friend on the goddam swingset almost 10 years ago, he would be nothing but a frogfaced nerd who has an enternal home in Loserdom.
It's not like Mike being his best friend means anything to him. It's not like Will wasn't brought to literal tears after essentially telling Mike how he's made personal, irreplaceable impact on his life, and how he would always have a place in his heart (as well as his other friends and family). Mind you, Will said all of that immediately after Mike expressed his own self-doubt and inferiority.
Some fans took Mike's nightmare fuel (personal insecurities) and decided it would make great wholesome byler content. Feels bad man... I wish they would let Will love Mike unconditionally like he does in canon.
(P.S. I went on a huge rant about Will's response to the rink o mania/rain scenes , but I didn't know how to get my point across in relation to this without going off the deep end lmfao)

my answer is very very long, so i'll put it under the cut:
i firmly believe a lot of fanon mike's characteristics are a reflection of the fandom's own anger towards him, starting from s3 onwards. for example — the concept of mike being overly clingy or having nerdy geeking out moments, and then will being annoyed by it? like i'm so sorry, people are not going to like what i say, but the opposite of that dynamic is what is literally canon in the show. in s3 will is attached to his childhood (and by extension his friends + mike) and tries to get all of them to play d&d, and then lucas and mike both scorn him. mike basically tells will to grow up.
now, am i saying that this is the dynamic i want to see portrayed in fics? no, of course not. in fact, the show itself makes it very clear that mike was in the wrong for treating will like that. and the audience was mad at mike. which is why i believe a lot of bylers write a role reversal of this, as some sort of comeuppance mike gets for s3 where he wasn't a good friend to will.
and as for mike being treated like he's the loserest loser in loserland, again, i think it just has a lot to do with people's anger towards him in s3 and s4, whether it's conscious or subconscious. when vol 2 came out everyone and their moms wanted to set fire to mike. people made soooo many jokes about will getting with another guy. all of this anger is also why people constantly peddle the "will is too good for mike" rhetoric as well.
the actors' appearances also come into play here. noah is broader and more toned than finn. that's also why buff byers became a thing, though noah's not really buff, he's just fit. buff byers also came from the idea that mike should be fucking groveling at will's feet, as repented for the way he treated will in s3-s4. like, "hey look! will is super strong and he's a chick/guy magnet and he could literally have any boy in the world!" and so they try to make this sort of disparity between both boys and put will on a pedestal compared to mike so that mike can do nothing but be his personal fanboy who should be grateful will even dared to look upon him.
i think that the van scene also added to people's anger towards mike. ranging from mike not noticing will crying (allegedly), to mike not realizing/accepting will's veiled love confession (allegedly). which is again, why we get more fan content of will not reciprocating mike's romantic affection. or people declaring that mike doesn't deserve will's love. it's just another role reversal.
which is so funny because like you said, will's love is unconditional. he openly admits to feeling lost without mike, but people like to pretend will was a happy little clown in california where everyone wanted a piece of him. and he admits that being mean or pushing mike away is NOT WHO HE IS NORMALLY. like seriously this is literally in the fucking show!!!
my answer is just mostly about byler but again just to note that all of mike's friends love him. they fight him or tease him but that's because they care. they find him annoying in the same way he would also find them annoying. because friends will annoy each other. but they still look up to him. in fact, all of them have had moments where one of their issues was literally the fact that they wanted mike's attention in one way or another.
mike IS a loser. but he's a loser in the sense that all of the party are losers. not in the way fanon portrays, where the party are somehow infinitely cooler than mike, who is written as a bottom of the barrel leech. (and also just to add here — people love over-exaggerating the idea of mike being "ugly" in canon, just so they can pair it with will "could attract literal gods" byers.)
and also, last one — mike is the heart of the party. there's no other way around it. he is their leader, and "without heart, we'd all fall apart" is literally THE most applicable thing to mike. when mike didn't act true to himself, not like the leader he normally is, that's when everything began falling apart. which is why i'm so hyped for s5, where we hopefully get to see mike come back to himself and truly lead the party as their paladin.

As much as I love Drakgo and KimRon don’t you think the ships felt a little one sided?
i'm not totally sure what you mean. do you mean, in terms of the characters' feelings for each other?
if yes, there's a lot apparent in canon as far as Kim/Ron are concerned.
facts:
Ron has entertained the idea about he and Kim as a couple for a long time
Ron chooses to stay friends in case being a couple didn't work out
Kim "waited 12 stinking years for [Ron] to kiss [her]" quote from Homecoming Upset, indicating clearly that she's liked him from the very beginning
that's...really enough right there. it's unspoken since we don't get to see about romance from Kim's perspective that much (because to talk about it is to be vulnerable, and some vulnerabilities heroes don't reveal) but her comment about the twelve-years thing shows that she was almost certainly just as concerned about hurting their friendship as Ron was. it's not one-sided, it's just that we're not allowed to see Kim's vulnerable side in this way.
now on to Drakgo. Drakken comes to Shego's rescue with a giant robot in Go Team Go. she comes to his rescue in: A Very Possible Christmas, Clean Slate, Graduation... Shego comes back out of jealousy in Mad Dogs and Aliens. that's twice she leaves a vacation for him, once she comes back just because she wants to, and in Graduation puts herself in dire harm's way to save him.
Drakken fantasizes about Shego water skiing in Kimitation Nation and that's also the episode where he calls her "dumpling," not a typical pet name for just one's sidekick. Shego is constantly hanging around Drakken in a bathing suit, tanning and hot-tubbing in the lab which is wholly unnecessary. in Graduation she even changes out of the swimsuit to her normal suit in front of him.
their relationship is an old married couple vibe, not a twitterpated teen first love vibe. so they come across differently than our teens Kim and Ron.
this is just a handful of examples, but i could go on... point simply being, it's not one-sided in either case.
i think the reason people may not see it is...because the show isn't a romance. it's an action cartoon. the romance was never the focus. the show was meant to end with So the Drama, the kiss being the final scene, and all of S3 teased it blatantly even with Kim and Ron poking fun at it themselves when talking about Agony County, the in-show soap opera they watch. ending on making the ship canon is a perfect ending, but the romance was never ever the point. it's all there, but it's never in your face because....that's just not with KP as a show is about.

Since I'm still in WWDITS mode (and probably will be until after the season finale next week), I need to share what I want to happen. Specifically regarding Nandermo. Especially after "Freddie."
Ok. So. I’ve been thinking forever that I want Guillermo to turn into a vampire before he gets together with Nandor.
There’s several reasons for this, dealing mainly with character motivation and agency: Guillermo serves the vampires as a familiar because he wants to be a vampire. Arguably, this complicates his ability to realize his feelings for Nandor because their relationship is so uneven - Nandor refuses to provide what Guillermo wants and Guillermo’s own desires to be a vampire and be with Nandor are probably all bundled together, especially when he wants Nandor to be the one to do it.
Would Guillermo even stick around if he got what he wanted? Maybe, but that requires him getting what he wants. Then realizing it’s not the only thing that tethers him to Nandor and the rest of the vampires.
Nandor on his side has always had issues respecting Guillermo and treating him as an equal. This is complicated by their work relationship where Guillermo is essentially his employee. Every act of goodwill by Nandor is still hampered by that power imbalance.
Even at the end of s3, Nandor confessing that Guillermo passed “the test” of not going soft and being able to take care of himself... is given the caveat that Nandor still expects Guillermo to take care of him. He still sees him as a familiar, on some level. Even when growing to respect Guillermo more, he still has some lingering feelings of superiority over humans and familiars generally.
And yes, Guillermo could kill him. But Guillermo would also lose everything he wants (being a vampire, being turned by Nandor, being with Nandor) in doing so. He doesn’t want to kill Nandor. He wants to be respected and seen as an equal worthy of being turned into a vampire by Nandor.
So. Then s4 started airing. I kinda thought this idea was impossible to realize, because this season seemed to lean so hard on being “The Nandermo season”: It revolves around Nandor finding love, constantly ship-teasing him and Guillermo, how unhappy Nandor is married to anyone else, etc... And I highly doubt we would get both Guillermo being a vampire AND Nandermo at once - after all, the shows been renewed for 2 more seasons.
Heck, Guillermos desire to be a vampire has almost seemed muted this season compared to before, as the show focuses more on the tension between him and Nandor. And forming the love quadrant of Guillermo currently dating someone else + Nandor looking for love in all the wrong places.
So obviously, I thought we were building to Nandermo this season. Maybe the discussion of Guillermo being a vampire would be benched for the time being.
…Then the Freddie episode happened.
Ouch.
Suddenly, Nandermo being canon seems a bit less likely this season. It brought Nandor’s every character flaw kicking and screaming into focus, especially how he struggles to respect others agency AND treat Guillermo well. How even when he THINKS he’s treating him well, he still crosses every common sense boundary and ruins his other relationships out of his own misplaced jealousy.
So that leaves a bit more potential for my hope of Guillermo being turned first. Maybe even this season finale.
Here’s a scenario that I’ve been daydreaming about for months now that suddenly feels much more likely. Mind you, I would be surprised if this is exactly what happens, but it’s something I would absolutely love as a “what if” and I think fits where both of their characters are.
So. The theme for this season is still “Nandor’s search for love”, and that will probably be resolved in some way in the season finale. Probably not two-sided canon Nandermo at this point, but quite likely Nandor realizing he’s in love with Guillermo and maybe even making some sort of romantic confession.
So what if... We go in to the finale THINKING it’s time for Nandermo to become canon. We’re upset about what Nandor did to Marwa and Freddie, but still think that’s where this season is headed.
And at first, it follows the predictable story beats. Nandor realizes he’s in love, confesses to Guillermo, admits that everything he’s done up until now has been because he wants Guillermo but hasn’t been able to admit it to himself. Maybe even peppering in some condescending comment that it’s awkward to be in love with a familiar. I mean geez. But now, he says, Guillermo can get “everything he’s always wanted” - (being self-centered, Nandor assumed he himself is what Guillermo wants. If he loves Guillermo, Guillermo must love him back, right?)
Nandor pulls Guillermo in for an embrace. It’s not quite clear how Guillermo feels. Maybe he looks hesitantly happy, maybe he looks torn, confused, or maybe we don’t see his expression at all. Then Guillermo finally hugs him back, and it seems like all is well.
And Guillermo is happy, realizing that he can finally get what he wants. For a moment, he forgets his anger towards Nandor about Freddie and everything that happened. This is Nandor’s chance to make amends. Then, paralleling the first episode of the show, Guillermo leans so his neck is exposed and says something like “I’m ready, Nandor.” Because of course, if Nandor really loves him, he’ll turn him into a vampire, right?
...Right?
Then Nandor says back: “Ready for what?”
“For you to turn me into a vampire, of course.”
Nandor pulls back. He’s confused, and maybe a little hurt that Guillermo would immediately bring this up after the love confession. Is this all Guillermo’s wanted all along? Does he even love Nandor? Nandor’s unnerved and says something like “Ah… we can talk about that later, don’t you think? The important thing is that we’re together. Besides, I still need my familiar to take care of me. Come here, Guillermo.” And pulls him into another embrace.
This time, we do see Guillermo’s expression. We see as it shifts from excitement to confusion to anger - revealing the suppressed anger for everything that happened. For what Nandor did to him and Freddie. How after everything, Nandor is STILL holding this over his head, dangling the vampirism carrot and expecting Guillermo to go along with whatever he says. He still expects to have the power, and that Guillermo will just obey and be like Marwa, kind and sweet and a doll he can mold.
Then Guillermo hugs back anyway. Tight. Painfully tight. Nandor starts to pull away, but Guillermo holds him firmly, and Nandor can’t get out of the embrace.
Then Nandor feels something pointy at his back. Right between his shoulderblades, aimed at his heart. A stake is gently balanced against his skin, just barely not puncturing it. And Guillermo whispers darkly: “Turn. Me. Right. Now.”
And Nandor, realizing the seriousness of the threat, does. Not happily. It’s not the act of love or tenderness you would expect - it’s bitter and tinged with justified anger on Guillermo’s side and disappointment and hurt on Nandor’s side. And the season ends with Guillermo leaving the house, a vampire at last, but fed up and intending not to come back.
In being disrespectful, callous, selfish, and disregarding others wishes and agency, Nandor got what he was always secretly afraid of: Guillermo leaving him as soon as he got what he wanted.
And we, the audience, realizes that this is how it had to happen. Neither of them were ready to be together. Maybe just becoming a vampire was always what Guillermo wanted the most. Maybe if Nandor had been kinder, more respectful to Guillermo and not fucked with peoples lives, he could’ve gotten his beloved and all would be well. But Nandor just couldn’t change until he lost everything.
Guillermo, on his side, is not as happy as you would expect. He’s totally justified in leaving, it seems like a straightforward “good for her!” moment… but defiant and furious as he may be, and despite finally being a vampire, there’s tears in his eyes. He didn’t want it to be like this. He wanted Nandor to fucking learn and respect people and be a better person. But he didn’t. And now he’s lost it all, just like Guillermo is realizing that being a vampire is not enough to make him happy. That he really does love Nandor. But he has to leave anyway.
Fade to black. Tune in to s5 to see if they’ll work it out.
But now, Nandor HAS to respect Guillermo as an equal, as a vampire. Not only because he's able to kill him (he already was), but because now, there's no obvious reason for Guillermo to stay with him. So he has to earn it. And in turn, Guillermo has to confront that there’s more he wants out in life than being a vampire, for immortality is bitter and cruel if you have to spend it alone.

I used to write for the Legend of Zelda fandom, but switched to OUAT in the mid 2010s (I took down all my LoZ fics, it's just OUAT on Ao3). I am technically still writing for OUAT but my document history begs to differ.

I used to! Eventually, I got overwhelmed by life and stopped responding. I do read every comment I get, and each one is very lovely!
what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
No Time Like the Present, which is I think technically canon compliant if you really squint at it. Essentially, there's a weird crossing of the time streams in Neverland, where S3 Emma bumps into S6 Hook and they have a really weird conversation because she doesn't realize he's in the future. The result is that when she finds the engagement ring in S6, she misunderstands his reluctance/caginess. I tend to write happy endings only these days (which LoZ-writer me would be really surprised by!), so this is probably the only angsty-ending I've got.
what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Like, all of them minus the above? Probably Tell Him, because time travel shenanigans end up fixing a lot of ridiculous BS from S4 through S6.
do you get hate on fics?
Not usually. I've gotten a few comments over the years that haven't been very nice, but they can be boiled down to the affectionately named Charminator (who would scour FFnet fics and criticize their portrayals of David, it was very weird!), and the one time someone did not like that I wrote a completely AU fic where Leopold and Regina, two background characters, were happily married.
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
I don't know what "what kind" means, but yes, I write smut! I've got some fics that consist of plots that are excuses for smut. I used to accept kinky smutty prompts in my inbox, although I took them down several years ago, sorry.
do you write crossovers? what's the craziest one you've written?
So, funny enough, when I was a wee lil fic writer, writing in notebooks after my parents thought I was asleep, I wrote crossovers between the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and the Belgariad (@optomisticgirl). No true crossovers since then.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not quite. I've had a fic reposted on Facebook without my permission or knowledge, which caused a great deal of fandom drama when I found out about it and asked to have it removed.
have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes. I forget which one, but someone years ago asked if they could translate one of my stories into Russian, and I said it was fine.
have you ever co-written a fic before?
Uhhhh ... I don't think so? (This is genuinely me not remembering.)
what's your all-time favourite ship?
I don't love this question, not because I don't understand where it's coming from (I do!), but because I feel like ships are often like books or movies or TV shows or even foods. Different things hit the spot differently, even if you love them equally. I think Emma and Hook from OUAT are definitely the pair that ate up the most brain space for me. But I've got a steady rotation of LoZ ships as well, including MaLink which is the one that originally got me writing fic. And Link and Midna also wrecked me emotionally and primed me for Captain Swan (and that's the basis for the OUAT Zelda AU that will never get finished at this rate). These days, thanks to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, I'm also just very certain that those versions of Zelda and Link belong together and I shrieked when we got to Hateno Village in TotK and found out that they're COHABITATING (there's only one bed!!!).
what's the wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I've actually got 3, one of which is the Zelda AU that is almost 100k words long and is maybe halfway done. One of my new year's resolutions is to find the time to work on it.
Another one, which I really wish I could finish, but I don't see it happening, is a canon divergence where Emma returns from the Wish Realm without regaining her memories/Savior-ness. She's desperate to get "home" and strikes a deal with Rumple, where in order for him to send her back, she has to make Hook believe she's in love with him again, and then break his heart.
And finally, I have a modern AU where Emma fake dates her ex-best friend Killian in order to secretly date Neal, who's come back into her life very suddenly. This one is never getting finished specifically because 1) too many Captain Swan shippers are flat out uncomfortable with the Emma/Neal bits even though it would be a CS story, and 2) I am actually hoping to someday rework the main gist of it into an original contemporary romance.
what are your writing strengths?
Dialogue and plotting. Are you stuck with a plot point? hmu
what are your writing weaknesses?
Everything that's not dialogue and plot. My writing isn't flowing or descriptive or beautiful or anything. Sometimes I feel like I'm just writing down what's happening, what the characters are feeling, and what they're saying, and that's basically it.

Hi Steph! I just wanted to ask if you know of any fics where Sherlock is showing his more flamboyant side? I remember reading a fic where Sherlock confesses that he’s shy to do so but at the end he shows off his nails which were painted glitter black, and Rosie was there too. It was so cute! M*leven: a relationship that was never meant to be
I would like to say this is not an attack towards anyone who ships Melvin. I don’t even want it to show up on their tag, but if any of them find this, just know I am doing an analysis and that anyone who attacks me for it is not cool. I also ship byler which could make my point less convincing, but I am not trying to be biased. None of this comes from a bias, just me talking about a relationship that I have grown to highly dislike and show why it has a high chance of breaking up.
With that out of the way, Melvin is a relationship between the characters Mike and El in Stranger Things, and has been canon since season 1. They didn’t really get together until the end of S2 and it has been that way ever since. Many people think that this relationship is cute and yes, it is, but let’s replace the is with was.
Ever since season 3 this relationship has been shown to be quite toxic. I noticed how my opinion on Melvin was positive until season 3 and it’s funny how it’s when they actually became a couple. In fact, I noticed that Melvin became toxic when they got together. This shows that maybe they should not be together at all and that has been Duffers intention.
To show why it’s always been toxic, is how no one in the show has said anything positive about it at all. Ever since season 1, the party thinks Mike has crush on her, but they don’t find this cute or endearing, they mock it. An example would be Lucas teasing Mike about El:
Lucas: El! I love you so much! Would you marry me?
Mike: Shut up Lucas
You could say Lucas approves of the crush, but the way he also went “If you love her so much why don’t you just marry her?” Which is more of a negative thing to say than a positive. I get that this was when the party just met El, and Lucas didn’t trust her at the time. But still, it was intentional. The over exaggeration that Lucas does is, in my interpretation, a way of the Duffers mocking Melvin. Which goes into my next point.
The Duffers show how their relationship doesn’t work romantically. Ever since they have become a couple, they have had problems. S3 is a huge example with them breaking up and both of them not even being sad about it. You’d think that such a strong bond would be sad about their relationship ending at least a little, but it’s not. Even the scene where Mike says he loves her, everyone reacts in such a weird way. Like they think he’s lying.
What makes it better is how humorous their breakup in S3 is. Like the Duffers do not take their romantic relationship seriously. Whenever they are together, they act so out of character to where it doesn’t feel real, which is most likely intentional. Because their romance is a lie.
This also just doesn’t affect the two of them, it also affects everyone else around them. With them ditching their friends when they were going to meet Dustin’s girlfriend and have them all complain about it. Sure, Max says “It’s romantic” but not even an episode later she starts going against their relationship. I feel Max is supposed to represent the audience, most found it romantic or cute in earlier seasons, but after seeing their relationship more clearly, it’s just bullshit and they need to break up.
Let’s not forget the constant Ted and Karen parallels. Which I touched upon here. Especially with the new season’s main messages being about conformity, which is what their relationship is, conformity. These two work better as friends, not as a romantic pairing.
Another example of their romance being a lie is how when they became a couple, they both lie to each other. First it’s Mike in S3, then it’s El in S4. Which actually can be proven with of the most popular phrases in this show “Friends don’t lie.”
Friends don’t lie. El never lied to Mike when they were just friends and vice versa, but when they became a couple, it was all lies. Because their love is a lie. They didn’t actually love each other in a romantic sense.
Now you could say that S4 has taken a more serious tone with their relationship and argument, but the reason it’s serious is because this is where they realize that this isn’t what they actually want. They are taken seriously when they are a friendship. The fact that eulogy played in the background of their argument in S4 shows that their romance is dead. It’s always been. This can also be proven with Mike calling it an “argument you can’t come back from.” What’s something that you can’t come back from? Death. Their romance is dead.
There’s also the whole superhero thing. This has been here since season 1. In the same scene I mentioned with Lucas mocking Mike earlier, Dustin compares El to plenty of superheroes (X-men and green lantern) with Lucas saying “She’s not a superhero. She’s a weirdo.” You’d think Mike would shut both of them down, like with something like “She’s a person.” Or something like that. Usually I find that to be more romantic when it comes to something like this and you have a character who’s supposedly in love. But he does the same thing Dustin does by saying “The X-men were weirdos.”
This to me shows how Mike does not love El, with season 4 proving this even more, but it also shows how this was intended. Mike admires her, of course he cares about her, but it’s not romantic it’s just admiration. And that’s why having Mike tell El he loves her would be more damaging to their relationship because now El has her powers back, so Mike saying he loves her after just proves how he doesn’t actually love her. And you know what? Maybe we should have a scene where Mike tells El he loves her, but she shuts it down and tells him that he doesn’t. Making him realize that maybe they shouldn’t be together, after all, friends don’t lie.
There are plenty of other examples of how their romantic relationship never worked from the start and how they are not endgame, but I am going a bit too long here, and I feel that I might continue this post with more examples, like a part 2 or something. But that’s all for now.
In conclusion, Mike and El were never supposed to work out as a romantic pairing. And they will break up this season as that is the more healthiest and logical conclusion for their romance. Despite this show not exactly being realistic (it involves supernatural beings after all) it is realistic with their relationships. Keep that in mind.

the mystery of the universe - Harringrove WIP
a/n: i hope u guys like it, this is my FIRST harringrove piece (and it’s a WIP sorry i could not miss out on harringrove week)

AU idea where canon! Steve gets thrown into a parallel universe at end of S3 where Billy is alive and he gets the chance to befriend him to falls deeply in love with him. It feels right to be here, to be with Billy to be in this universe that was in the future where they could be together and could celebrate each other, where they could marry each other. Life was great, there was no upside down and Billy seemed less angry, less haunted and when Steve met Billy’s mother it all made so much sense.
But Steve’s body can’t handle being there for much longer and it breaks Steve’s heart, he’s dreaded this because in his universe Billy is dead. His Billy is dead he didn’t want to go back to that universe. He couldn’t and when he cried to Billy about it Billy laughs:
“The stars were aligned for us, Harrington, the universe brought us together the day I died and now it’s ready to take you back.” They’d look up at the stars, the humbling stars. “And I don’t know if it’s cruel or a blessing.” Steve put his head on Billy’s shoulder, tears have dried and he gripped tighter into his hand.
“Both,” he mumbled pressing a kiss on his warm skin. “Can we pretend for the rest of the week that it isn’t happening? That it’s not taking me back?”
“I don’t think you can handle that.”
“What why?” Sure Steve was a bit of a cry baby but he wasn’t always like that. He could pretend, he wanted to pretend and be happy again like the last 8 months.
“I wanted to purpose to you.” Steve’s heart stills. “I even brought a ring.” Billy laughs at himself fishing out a small box out of his pocket. “I know it’s silly, even mom said that but she still got all excited about it. So I thought maybe it’s not crazy and I knew college was an issue and-but now this whole universe thing too so I-”
“Yes.”
Billy raises a brow.
“Yes, I want to marry you.”
Billy stares at him, eyes burning. “Steve you can’t I-”
“I want to marry you Billy,” Steve holds out his hand, so Billy puts on the ring and they pretend for this whole week that Steve wasn’t going to disappear at the end of it. It might have been the best week of them all. They spent it around town, driving through the state, celebrating, swimming, skinny dipping even at night, kissed every moment they wanted to, made love, in the car, in bed, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, at the lake. Everything they did felt magical. They pictures every chance they got.
“Billy!!” Steve wanted to hide away when Billy had the camera out right after he stepped out the shower. “I need as many pictures of you as possible or I will think I’ve went crazy and imagined this hot guy.” They took pictures together, so many pictures.
“So I’m just some hot guy.” Steve challenged.
“Hot guy who happens to be the love of my life.” Billy said back looking at the pictures. Steve’s heart fluttered and he jumps at him to kiss him. When they day finally came Steve’s body felt exhausted, tired out and had a nose bleed. Billy hovered over him when he puked, rubbing his back.
They drove back to the mall where it all started, where they had met that fateful day months ago. Steve looked down at the golden band around his finger. Billy had Jimi Hendrix playing softly. Steve felt at ease, the headaches might still be there but his heart felt at ease, complete. He wouldn’t spending the rest of his life like this.
When they walked through the mall he felt light headed almost stumbled on his own feet. Billy wrapped his arm around his waist to help him. They came to the spot where Steve came from on his first day in this universe. It was the same spot he was in when the mall was a complete wreck. It was a small janitor room, they got into it.
“I remember I turned on the lights on and off 3 times.” Steve reaches out for the light and Billy stops him.
“Wait I...” Billy had difficulty to find his next words. “I want you to promise me something.” Steve blinks.
“Of course,”
“Can you promise me that you’ll move on? That you’ll be happy and not cry so much. Because I can’t- I don't want to think of you crying over there.” Steve’s aches.
“Billy-“
“You’re too pretty to be crying over me,” Billy cracks a grin creasing Steve’s soft cheeks. “You deserve to be happy. You will be happy, you will be able to move on and have a good life, yeah?” Because Billy saw the heartbreak in Steve’s eyes when he realized that he had to go back, he heard Steve crying in the bathroom, he calmed him down when Steve woke up crying because of the nightmares and he watched Steve scream his lungs out in the rain when the realization that he had to go back. Billy didn’t want Steve to live his life like this.
“And you?”
“I will move on too, okay?”
“Don’t forget me,” Steve feels selfish, but Billy just grins widely amused.
“How can I ever forget the love of my life?” Billy whispers leaning forward to kiss Steve. “I’ll be grateful that I got this weird out of my universe boyfriend that fights monsters in his.” Billy said tapping his chin. “I think I have the coolest boyfriend of all time.” Steve looks down at their hands, both of them wearing the golden bands. Steve smiles, with tears in his eyes but he smiles so Billy smiles too. Together they count down the number of times Steve presses the light.
“Don’t forget me, you’re boring boyfriend.” Billy says going in for one last kiss.
“Never.” Steve promises. Billy smiles and Steve saw the tears in his eyes. This was their goodbye. Three. It was pitch black and suddenly it wasn’t, but Steve was alone. He was in bloody sailor outfit and his face ached. He stumbled out of the janitor’s room.
“Hey, kid we need you to get out of here!” A man in uniform helped him the ruined Starcourt mall and he stumbled into the cold, ambulances everywhere.
“Steve!” It’s Robin with concerned eyes.
“How long have I been gone?” Steve asks.
“I think like 10 minutes.” She replies with a shrug and Steve feels sick. He was gone for months, he was with Billy for 8 months but apparently he was just gone 10 minutes. 8 months of his life were reduced 10 minutes of in this universe.
“Billy…?” He asked he couldn’t bring himself.
“Max hasn’t stopped crying.” Robin said sympathetically. Steve’s heart aches fingers reaching out to his ring finger but then he looks down. His heart drops. His ring wasn’t there. Steve turns around to the mall pushing through the officers and running away back inside ignoring Robin’s calls for him and the avoiding the officers. He runs to the janitor’s room again and turns the light looking around widely before dropping to his knees to look around the floor more closely.
“Steve?! What’s wrong??” Robin had come to him. He looks up to her and Robin was surprised at how distraught Steve looked.

He got on his knees grabbing the ring with shaking hands and Billy sits on the floor body leaning against the door. Holding into the ring in his hands, he cries by himself. Nothing had ever hurt Billy like this, it felt like his heart has been ripped out and shed into pieces. He curls into himself and cries, and cries and cries for his lost lover.
Funny that Steve said Billy died in his universe because it feels like Steve has died here too.

She is really good at video games, especially FPS and strategy games (naturally.) She grew up kind of a loner and spent most of her teens holed up in her room not knowing what to do with herself, and this was one of her major pastimes.

The scar on her forehead came from a near-miss of being fatally stabbed during an attack on the palace during the civil war, when she was only about 6-7. Fortunately she managed to dodge just enough for the blade to graze her skin and nothing worse. I’m dying to know what their history is, how they met, how Bo joined Death Watch, how she ended up his second-in-command, etc. I’m happy with my headcanons but I want to know what officially went down too!

okay so! this blog’s official post s3 canon for jamie (and therefore his canon in my s4 verse)
he and roy had an argument at bones and honey, but the argument wasn’t over keeley. he mostly started it to push roy’s buttons and see how far roy would let him get away with it - he didn’t expect to end up bloody, but at least he’s finally fucking banned from bones & honey and he never has to go back to that place.
jamie’s finally, totally free from the impact that rupert and george had on him as a player, at least internally. he’s accepted that he’s easily influenced by older men’s opinions of him (woo he gets more therapy, dr sharon’s office becomes a routine stop in his tuesdays) and that what rupert said to him, though it seemed kind, was rupert’s way of using him as a pawn to get what he wanted - richmond’s success at whatever the cost. jamie still regrets treating his teammates (his brothers) the way he did when he met them. he shook cartrick’s hand after the match and allowed himself the peace of mind that neither rupert nor george can dictate the way he plays his game anymore. he’s still becoming the best player he can be, but that’s a team player, not just the star that he is. he’s one in a million, yes, but he’s also one of eleven.
jamie hears back from his father. they have a conversation over text, and jamie leaves it there. maybe in the future, he’ll meet up with him, but all he has to say to the man are thank you (for pushing me to be who i am today, i understand others struggles better now that i see them through this lens), fuck you (for treating me the way you did. i was a child. i didn’t deserve any of that. and neither did mum), and goodbye (forever). he has plenty of men in his life to take inspiration from, plenty of men to guide him to be better than he ever was listening to james. he’s also found motivation other than anger - he’s found love. he doesn’t need that toerag in his life.
jamie goes to brazil with keeley, the shoot for nike goes well (no bad ones - have you seen him?), and he uses that trip to open up to her, to be emotionally vulnerable, to tell her about amsterdam the way he’d told roy, and to let her know that, however she finds her happiness, he’ll be happy that she’s happy.
he spends the off season preparing for a champions league run - he wants to take richmond as far as they can possibly get - after a week at home in manchester, sleeping in his childhood bed, trying to learn some skills in the kitchen from simon and picking up a guitar for the first time in a decade to play for his mum.
when he gets invited to the cookout at the higgins household, jamie gladly returns to london. he’s happy to see his chosen family once more, happy to spend the time with keeley and roy, roy’s knee up against his own, even if it doesn’t mean anything - even if it’s just the way roy sits.
he does not let beard and jane get married without a fight. he’ll truly do everything in his power, including inviting beard to stay at his house, or sleeping on the couch in beard’s flat, to keep that from happening.
jamie still doesn’t know why he was sent back to city during his loan season, but he doesn’t really care anymore. what matters, in the end, is that he found his way back to richmond.
jamie’s contract is signed through 2025, and he hopes to play for richmond for the rest of his career, with this group of incredibly talented players, this family that he loves.

What do you hope the writers do with Allison's arc next season? Ngl s4 broke my heart because it really felt like she was separate from her siblings. She was at such a low point and just feeling so much anger and grief. It was hard to watch even though Emmy was phenomenal.
I love this question! See, the thing with my views on Allison is that they tend to be sort of separated from the general plot of the show. By this I mean that what I’ve always been the most interested by are the parts of her life that we’ve never gotten to see…her life pre-canon, her time in the 60’s, and now – what happens after she reunites the with Claire and Ray.
I hope they explore the topic of emotional dependency and bodily autonomy with her. You know, have her question her own morality and what it means to be good and bad – if those are even concepts that exist. It’s different with her siblings because of how all of them were raised, but when paired with someone like Ray – who is such a beacon of justice and a believer in doing what’s right, I feel like that could be something she struggles with. I want them to explore her relationship with Claire. Has been away from her for so long made her view parenting through rose-colored glasses? She hasn’t parented Claire in YEARS and even when she was married to Patrick, what she did wasn’t really parenting either.
Mostly, I just want her arc in S4 to be about self-growth. Does she owe some of her siblings apologies? Yeah. Mainly to Viktor for the whole Harlan thing and Luther for violating his autonomy. The Hargreeves have all done TERRIBLE things to each other, Allison isn’t an outlier here. At least in the first episodes of the season, I want her to be sort of in her own little world with Ray and Claire. A picture perfect family (tho you can still see the fractures in that illusion in some instances). But I want the main focus to be on her relationship with her siblings. Maybe she goes to find them after hitting a low point with Ray and Claire (possibly after using her powers on Claire again and Ray catching her? So she feels like she’s stuck repeating the same mistakes all her life)
From what I can gather, Reginald and Abigail are gonna be key players, so have her join forces with her siblings. Have them learn how to PROPERLY be a team. Have Allison try to fix those bridges she burned. Even in S3, she still has kindness left in her, she’s just….really struggling. Have her express that. Give her a scene with Five where they discuss the deal she made with Reginald where it ISN’T just him pointing fingers and her getting defensive. Remember, Five made a deal too (the difference came down to the way they were portrayed but no I’m not bitter why do you ask). Everything he’s done is for his family. He UNDERSTANDS the lengths people will go to for the ones they love. Have them FINALLY team up and reach some sort of understanding
On another note: her powers! I don’t think she’s still figured out which lines are okay to cross and which aren’t – so have her explore that. Through Claire and Luther, have her evaluate WHY it’s wrong to use them on the people she loves. The Hargreeves aren’t saints and they’ll always make mistakes, but deep down I DO think they want to do good – they just get a little lost along the way. And it’s important to remember that Allison didn’t get Ray and Claire back by being “good”. If she does make the decision to better herself, I want her to do it for HER. Yes, she absolutely wants to be an amazing mother to Claire, but she needs to realize that this isn’t something she should only do for the sake of other people
And this is totally self-indulgent but I want the show to end with her getting her purple hair from the comics! Idk! Let it be a metaphor for how she’s working on moving forward after spending so much time stuck in the past. At the very least let her have a hopeful ending, she deserves that much
Anyway, if it wasn’t already obvious, I care so much more about the characters than the plot so sorry that barely any of this includes actual… y’know. plot things lol. Hope you liked it tho!! I love one (1) woman

notes on big canon divergences with the new muses
Lexi & Anna: Still working this out bc I haven't actually gotten to watch the arc with the ghosts at the beginning of s3 play out yet BUT basically my canon divergence is at some point when things are going haywire, they both actually fully cross back over instead of staying ghosts.
All GOT muses: I ignore all of season 8 and most of season 7. I'm not here for the character assassination. (Also @ book based peeps, I'm book friendly but I've only read the first book and around 1/4 of the second but that was YEARS ago, so bear with me as my book knowledge is on the level of a confused sloth.)
Daenerys: I basically ignore everything that happens after Dany arrives in Westeros. Some events beyond that point can be included with plotting, but my Dany is typically (unless writing earlier in the timeline) freshly landed on Dragonstone and her arc from that point onward will be different. I'm not here for the "Mad Queen" shit they pulled in s8 in the slightest. Also sidenote, I'm not down with romantic Jonerys if the R+L=J plot is followed as canon for obvious reasons.
Margaery: I don't have much that's canon divergent about Margaery (at the moment but this may change as my rewatch continues). I will have a verse where Margaery managed to escape the sept and get far enough away to survive the explosion just because I do love giving dead characters alternate endings, but it is an AU.
Sansa: Ok so. Listen. I'm not a fan of male writers putting female characters through unnecessary torture p*rn and r*pe plots as if that is somehow required to "make them stronger", and that whole spiel about Sansa basically saying she's grateful that she went through shit bc of how it changed her or whatever the hell they were trying to say?? Absolutely not. D&D are forever on my shit list especially because of this plotline, one that wasn't even originally Sansa's in the books. So while I will follow that yes, she was engaged to Ramsay and he was cruel to her, they did not marry before she fled and [redacted] did not happen. Also, my Sansa absolutely told Jon about her plan with the Knights of the Vale. I see no reason why she would keep that information from him at all, D&D tried to force a *Girlboss* moment and ended up making both her and Jon look stupid for it, and I hate that. So that's being tossed out the window besties.
