been having massive brainworms of yachi and kiyoomi meeting in college and becoming close friends + yachi having to play wingman for kiyoomi when he meets you
cannot stop thinking about unlikely friends yachi and kiyoomi. they probably first met during nationals in kiyoomi's last year in itachiyama. maybe she piqued his interest when he heard her tell hinata to go back to the bathroom and wash his hands properly. they met again in uni and stuck together until they graduated and had to part ways because of their career choices.
and it probably was a gradual thing too, how they became friends. with kiyoomi being generally prickly and yachi being so shy. they just started sitting at the same table one day in the library. then, small nods of acknowledgment became hesitant attempts at small talk. then, it turned into kiyoomi crashing into the chair across from yachi that he has deemed his throughout the semester and immediately complaining about some professor while yachi nods in sympathy. then, it turned into yachi buying two orders of her coffee for that day because she knew kiyoomi would try stealing her coffee under the guise of "i just wanted to try what sugary concoction you brought today, hitoka. c'mon." that he swears he doesn't like. they probably also have matching keychains that kiyoomi bought for them on a whim one day when he was out in the city. and kiyoomi was definitely the person yachi had on speed dial for when she went on dates that started well but ended up making her uncomfortable. and in turn, yachi was the first one he told about you, about the person he was paired up with for a class presentation. she was the first to notice when kiyoomi started crushing on you, even before he himself realized. to notice the way kiyoomi would stare at you longer than necessary, gaze warm with an undercurrent of longing. and the way it might not be as one-sided as kiyoomi deemed it was when she catches you stealing glances at him when you think no one was looking. and naturally, yachi is the first to set the both of you up, ditching the hangout the three of you planned with motoya and tsukasa (that was two weeks in the making, mind you) because "ah, sorry! a very important deadline was moved to today and motoya, tsukasa-san, and i haven't even done half of it." kiyoomi would be disgruntled at how bad that excuse was because the three of them aren't even in the same classes, let alone groupings. and he tells yachi as much. you are none the wiser of course. "i'm really sorry!!! i was so excited too :(( we'll make it up to you both okay? xo" yachi would send to you and to kiyoomi, "if you don't end up kissing them by the end of tonight, don't even bother texting me. good luck!" - [Today 10:19PM] thanks, hitoka

At summer training camp in her second year, Yachi Hitoka notices a small, heart-shaped Pride pin on Akaashi Keiji’s sports bag.
She spends the first two days of camp agonizing if she should say something. Is it appropriate? Would Akaashi be weirded out? How does one casually initiate a conversation with a fellow gay?
So far Yachi has only told two people: a cousin, and her former crush/mentor, the incomparable Kiyoko Shimizu. She’s chatted with people online, but always anonymously.
The thought of coming out to someone new is terrifying.
But Akaashi, and really the entire Fukurodani Volleyball Club, have always been approachable. Yachi recalls running into Akaashi and his ace, Bokuto Koutarou at Nationals. They were so kind, easing her worries and doubts during an intense match. Despite being just as tall and intense as the other athletes Yachi regularly met, she never felt intimidated by the pair.
And so, she now finds herself peering nervously around the corner of the Ubugawa gymnasium to where Akaashi, now captain of Fukurodani, stands. He’s staring down at his phone, his bag casually slung over one shoulder. The rainbow pin gleams under the midday sun.
Taking a deep, steadying breath, Yachi approaches. As she does, she sees that Akaashi is smiling. It’s subtle, just a slight twitch at the sides of his mouth, but it’s noticeable. She wonders vaguely what he’s looking at on his phone.
She chides herself for being nosey.
Akaashi hears her shuffling and looks up. “Ah, Yacchan.” He politely tucks the phone away. “Good evening.”
“Hello, um, hi, Akaashi-san!” Yachi stammers. “H-how are you?” She winces at her own awkwardness.
“Doing well, thank you.” He nods politely. “And you? Are you staying cool? Hydrated?”
“I’m okay!” Yachi bows back. “But yeah, it’s so hot out today!”
“You’re not a summer person, then?”
“Not at all!” She groans. “I feel like I’m melting!”
Akaashi chuckles. “You sound like Bokuto. He abhors the heat, especially when it’s humid as well.”
Yachi grins. “How is Bokuto-san doing? He’s at Central Sports University, right?” She assumes Bokuto keeps in touch with his old teammates.
Akaashi hums. “Moving from home was a big change, but he’s happy. His new team is a good fit.”
“I’m glad.” Yachi reaches down to fiddle with the hem of her t-shirt, unsure. She feels like she’s about to dive off a cliff, not knowing if there will be a net to catch her. Her anxious gaze shifts, and now the pin is in direct line of sight, as if taunting her. How can she bring it up?
“Yacchan?”
Yachi flinches, realizing she had been staring at the pin for a few beats too long. When she meets Akaashi’s gaze, he looks uncertain. Oh no! Does he think she has a problem with it? “Sorry!” She cries, arms waving frantically. “I didn’t know what to say, because… um, I saw it and I just…”
“This?” Akaashi’s fingers wander across the bag’s canvas and to the pin’s enamel surface. He taps it with one of his perfectly filed nails, lifting an eyebrow curiously.
Yachi swallows down her fear. “Yeah! It’s nice! Um, I’d like to find one for my book bag!”
Akaashi looks mildly surprised, but his face softens quickly. “I see.”
“Haha, yeah…”
“So.” Akaashi clears his throat. “You’re…”
“Yeah!” Yachi says again hands tighten into fists excitedly. “I’m gay!” Her ears burn in embarrassment as her companion bites his bottom lip, trying not to laugh at her outburst.
“Well, thank you for sharing that with me, Yacchan.”
Yachi releases a shaky breath, grinning back nervously. For a while they are silent. Cicadas buzz above, gym shoes squeak on hardwood nearby. She wonders if Akaashi is feeling the same sort of content relief at finding another queer person to confide in.
“When did you know?”
“Huh?” It takes a moment for her to discern Akaashi’s question. “Oh! Um, well. Back in first year, I had a crush on someone, but at first I didn’t know it was a crush!” She recounts the clarity she experienced, when she finally understood her feelings. It was like everything suddenly shifted into focus.
It had been hard, accepting that Kiyoko couldn’t return her feelings. But she is forever grateful for the older girl—for her influence, kindness, her support when she came out.
“How are you doing now?” Akaashi asks kindly, causing Yachi to relax further.
“Well, I’m glad I know who I am! But now I basically fall in love with every pretty, nice girl I meet!” She sighs. “It’s tiring!”
Akaashi chuckles. “I suppose I can’t relate exactly. I’ve only ever had feelings for one person.”
Yachi leans in curiously, waiting for her companion to continue on his own. She doesn’t want to pry.
“I always found guys attractive,” he says finally. “But when I came out in middle school, my parents told me to keep it to myself. They said I’d ‘grow out of it,’ so it wasn’t worth acting on.”
Yachi frowns. “I’m so sorry, Akaashi-san! I, um, think my mom will be supportive when I tell her. I’ve heard her talk positively about the marriage equality movement…”
Akaashi’s eyes crinkle as he smiles. “I’m glad to hear. But remember, even if she doesn’t, you will find people who support and love you. I found that at Fukurodani. In fact,” he reaches into his pocket. “Let’s exchange numbers. If you ever want to talk, contact me. Bokuto, too. Anytime.”
A surge of affection hits Yachi. It’s overwhelming, how it wells up inside her, through her heart and into her throat. Not since Kiyoko had she felt so seen by another person. “Thank you,” she croaks, blinking furiously. (She is not crying. She’s not!) “Wait,” she says, realizing what Akaashi had said. “Bokuto… I mean, is he also…”
Shyly, Akaashi nods. “I’m sure he’d be okay with me telling you. Bokuto is bisexual. And, well…” His voice lowers slightly. “He and I… we’re together.”
Yachi feels like she might fall over at the news. Akaashi and Bokuto, two of her favorite people in the entire world, are dating? Incredible!
“That’s wonderful!” She cries, hands pulling into fists  in excitement. He chuckles, sharp cheekbones going pink.
“Thank you. I… have to agree...”
From then on, Yachi and Akaashi grow closer. They spend time together at training camps, keeping in touch in between. They end up at the same university and often meet up to study together.
Yachi confides in Akaashi and Bokuto, who give her advice before she comes out to her mom. They encourage her to ask out a girl in one of her classes, celebrating when she gets her first date.
Over the years, Yachi meets many other queer people who become incredibly important to her. But she never loses touch with Akaashi. The connection they made that one summer day in high school remains a defining moment in her life.
She’ll forever be grateful.

the first time kanoka serves in front of runa and yachi, she manages to render them speechless.
she jumps up and hits the ball–it's a nice, satisfying hit, and the ball lands in the corner she'd been aiming for. she turns around triumphantly to look at her girlfriends, both of whom are sitting off to the side. runa's knees are tucked against her chest, hands clasped by her ankles. yachi's sitting cross legged, hands pressing down her skirt. both of them stare at her with wide eyes and slightly parted lips as she waits for them to say something.
of course, no one says anything. she stares at runa and yachi, and they stare back at her with twin expressions of...shock, she thinks. but why would they be shocked? they've seen other serves before...was hers bad?
"ah…" kanoka laughs nervously. "it's, ah, it's not as strong as the guys i'm sure-"
"no no, it was wonderful!" yachi practically shrieks. her face heats up and she waves her hands frantically. "i was just really blown away by your strength!"
runa nods so fast that it looks like her head might fall off. "yeah! you looked really cool!" she says.
"really cool," yachi agrees.
"yeah. really cool." runa ducks her head down behind her knees after she says that. "i've never seen anything like it."
kanoka blushes. "thank you," she says. there's another moment of silence, before kanoka picks up another volleyball and spins it between her hands. "do. um. do either of you want to try?"
"oh…i've never actually served before," runa confesses. she's still hiding behind her knees. "hana usually handled that…i just throw the ball."
"i can teach you?" kanoka offers. she looks at yachi, who starts nodding almost immediately. "you too, if you want."
"sure!" yachi rockets up to her feet, then flails about as she nearly overbalances, before she manages to catch herself. "kageyama and hinata have taught me a little, but i'm not that great," she tells kanoka. "some tips would be nice."
"sure thing!"
runa slowly gets to her feet. "thanks for offering to show us," she says. "so, what's the first step?"
kanoka smiles at her girlfriends. "okay," she says. "so what you wanna do is this…"

yachi hitoka doodles your name next to hers whenever she finds the time to do so. it’s always surrounded by hearts and stars and poorly drawn daffodils, on the edge of her napkin or on her receipts or, embarrassingly , her homework.
if you ever have a keen enough eye to spot it, her face will explode in an array of pinks as she tries in vain to distract you from it. “n—no,” she’ll stammer, hands frantically waving in the air, “it’s not what you think!”
but, she’s a terrible liar. when you lean over to press a kiss on her cheek, you watch her falter for a moment, eyes wide with stars. she’ll clutch the space your lips had been when you pull back with a smile at the corner of your lips, and when you say, “i think it’s cute,” you watch her practically melt into a puppy love puddle.

HAIKYUU BOYS AS DESI PEEPS (BASICALLY INDIAN)
Tumblr media
Sugawara:
you just KNOW aunties dote on him, like the moment suga walks through the door, its game over for the other kids.
he loves going to weddings!!! especially his cousins. picking out sherwanis, playing pranks on the groom with the girls, stuffing his face full of exotic delicacies, yup, his favourite time ♥️
during holi, everyone would joke about how his hair has literally turned into some sort of a bad rainbow dye job. shampoo doesnt let the colors dissolute till three days, so he'd walk around looking like a magical color pixie.
Atsumu:
the kind of guy who would be all smiles and sunshines in front of his relatives, but as soon as they'd face the other way, he'd snicker among his friends about how much of a turd they are 😭
diwali is basically chow time. for a day, he literally incarnates as osamu. he'd scruff down 25 kaju katlis and 15 rasgullas like his life depends on it.😀
whenever he sees a cow on the road, he'd unironically pet her and ask for her blessings🤡, he's such a believer in the hindu myths its hilarous.
Oikawa:
you can't tell me he won't get insecure when his parents constantly chide him and compare him to other kids his ages :-\. like he'd be laughing but internally he's spiralling cause shreya got more than him on chemistry. (iwa pulls his outta this always tho)
every girl has a crush on him. and some boys too. but no one confesses. (just desi things: fearing oscratization from society)
milk cake is his favourite desert. as well as gulab jamun and rasmalai and lassi. infact everything sweet. but if you put a gun to his head, he'd pick aloo dum and puri
Sakusa:
ABHORS the carmaderie that comes with being desi. hates it when uncles pat him and aunties pull his cheeks. except komori, all snotty-faced cousins need to keep 90 feet away.
is the cousin everyone would call ideal cause he cracked JEE ADVANCED in his first try with a below 1000 rank. (i like to hc that sakusa is the crazy kid of smart, the one who doesn't even try to study and still gets top marks). every aunty is praising him and asking him what he did to get such nice marks without coaching and he says "volleyball. can i leave now?"
always acts immovable when festivals and weddings come around, acting as if its all a bother but is secretly pumped up cause *cough* *cough* atsumu is always there *cough* *cough*
Yachi:(technically not a guy but who cares)
she loves hanging out with family, but sometimes she meets uncles almost twice her size and almost always faints. her social anxiety doesn't let her mix in much and her stammering gets her nowhere which is a shame cause she genuinely wants to interact with everyone.
her RANGOLI DESIGNS ARE GODSENDS. like everyone is playing with rangoli filters and stickers and she would just? create? a? masterpiece? out? of? nowhere? she doesn't even need any instruments, only her hands and pure skill. madoka most probably thought her to have a steady hand from a young age
gets finicky during holi. she is allergic to the pigments used and has to stay in when everyone is around throwing waterbags and dyes at each other and IT HURTS. but one day hinata brings her organic, allergic-friendly pigments and she plays with the whole of karasuno^_^

volleyball husbands since highschool (au?)✨🏐
first-year tsukki makes a joke about how hinata and kageyama are too volleyball obsessed and that they should just get married to each other since no one else can understand them they way only they do. the two of them kinda just sit in silence for a few seconds before agreeing with him. both tsukki and yamaguchi’s eyes widen in surprise because it’s the first time the two agreed with him. the conversation shifts when yachi comes to sit with them and starts talking about her class.
the topic comes up again in the afternoon while they were changing in the clubroom and tsukki makes a quip about how the two of them should have their wedding reception in the gym, causing everyone to immediately pay attention to the first years in the corner. yamaguchi quickly explains what happened during lunch and their senpais just laugh it off as one of the dynamic duo’s many quirks. tanaka jokes about how can they get married if they don’t even have a ring yet. hinata takes a moment to stare at tanaka before his eyes start to spark and he runs out of the clubroom. everyone hears yachi’s surprised yell before hinata pops back in a minute later with one of yachi’s thin hair ties. he ties it around kageyamas ring finger and holds it up proudly to tanaka. the second year laughs and gives hinata a thumbs up before daichi asks them to hurry up and get changed.
every once in a while, the two of them like to make quips related to the whole “getting married in the future” idea which causes the people around them to either laugh it off or join in. even their friends on the other teams have picked up on the running gag.
“oh no, you snore.” “so?? camp’s going to last for only a week anyway.” “yeah but when we get married im going to have to share a bed with you. ill never be able to sleep”
“if i can’t cook and you can’t cook, how are we going to get married?” “then learn how to cook, boke.”
by the end of their first year, people have started to refer to them as the ‘volleyball husbands’ in addition to the ‘dynamic/freak duo’. oikawa started to refer to hinata as either ‘chibi-chan’, ‘kageyama-chan’ or ‘my kohai-in-law’. when the third years graduated, they left gifts for everyone. kageyama and hinata received a “mr & mr volleyball” mug from suga, who gave them a wink and wished them the best.
fast forward to brazil where pedro notices how his roommate seems to disappear at the same time every single day to take a call outside of their place. he didn’t want to pry too much so it took him a few months to asks hinata about who he facetimes every day. hinata smiles and reveals how the mystery person was his fiancé and he needed to wake him every morning (in japan time) because if he didn’t, then “tobio would continue to be a pig in bed and not have time to workout before his practice,” adding on how he’ll “be really grumpy for the rest of the day because he slept in”. pedro was surprised to hear that his roommate had a fiancé back in japan (despite not having a ring on his finger) but didn’t question him further. he just let his fiery friend know that he could take his calls in the apartment and pedro would put on his headphones to give them privacy.
meanwhile, the adlers are oblivious to their teammate’s relationship status since kageyama was never one to share about his personal life unless he was probed (and no one really thought to ask the guy if he has a fiance) (they did ask him if he had a girlfriend/boyfriend and he replied with a simple ‘no.’). it didn’t help that he only gets to talk to hinata when the man wakes him up in the morning, and at night when he wakes hinata up. there has been an incident where ushijima asked kageyama if he ever had a boyfriend in high school because tendo has been telling him about some old high school gossip and a ‘volleyball husband’. kageyama simply responded with an “oh, that’s just hinata. he wasn’t my boyfriend.”
after hinata’s 2 years in brazil, the two of them make plans to live with each other in tokyo during off-seasons. after moving in, they have a small housewarming party and invite their karasuno friends as well as some of their current vball teammates that they’ve known since high school. the night starts off with the pair arguing over how one of them was supposed to order pizza before the party started, but didn’t because they thought that the other person did it. daichi had to step in to stop the two from breaking something in their own apartment on their first week there. everyone around them sighed and prayed that the two best friends wouldn’t kill each other one day. yamaguchi even pointing out how “at least their rooms are on the opposite ends of the apartment”. (everyone failing to realise that only one room looked lived-in and the other was a guest room).
as the night went on (and the drinks started flowing), someone made a comment about how the volleyball husbands have seemed to grow into functioning adults. most of the people in the room laughed, remembering the old bit that ran all throughout high school. hinata’s eyes sparkled when they brought it up as he slurred his words together to try and form a sentence. no one but kageyama understood what the tipsy main said so he translated to them that hinata was asking if the two of them should have their wedding in the summer or winter. noya slammed his drink down (startling asahi right beside him) and yelled out that they should have a summer wedding so that they can play beach volleyball right afterwards. everyone in the room started talking about a volleyball themed wedding, not realising kageyama taking down something on his phone.
a month and a half later, they sent out their wedding invitations.
a week later, they woke up at 5am in the morning to a very loud phone call from yamaguchi.
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE GETTING MARRIED IN JUNE?!”
hinata and kageyama both cringe at the volume of their best friend’s voice, with kageyama digging his face further into hinata’s chest while he tries to get more sleep and let his fiancé handle the issue. “what-what do you mean yamaguchi? why are you so surprised by this?”, hinata asks while trying to keep his voice down for kageyama. in the background, he hears tsukki asking if any of them have checked their phone notifications. hinata peels his phone away from his face to do just that when he notices the number of unopened messages the had, not even including all the missed calls from throughout the night that they managed to sleep through. he was pretty sure he even saw shimizu tanaka’s name pop up somewhere in the fray. all sleepiness immediately vanished when he realised that all of the messages were pertaining to the wedding, accompanied by various renditions of ‘what the fuck’. as he was doing so, he got another call from yachi and added her to the call with yamaguchi (and tsukki).
“HINATA?! WHEN WERE YOU GOING YO TELL ME YOU GUY WERE ENGAGED?! OR EVEN DATING?!”
“???… but yacchan, tobio and i have been engaged since our first year of highschool? we never had a dating phase, so we were never boyfriends? remember that one lunch when tsukki said how we should get married and both tobio and i agreed? he even kept your hair tie, the one i tied around his finger.”
the two of them could hear tsukki yell in the background and grab the phone out of yamaguchi’s hand. “DUMBASS! THAT’S- THAT’S NOT HOW ENGAGEMENT WORKS?! YOU… YOU NEED TO LOVE SOMEONE TO MARRY THEM, DUMBASS.”
hinata frowned and looked down at the man in his arms, who was surprisingly able to sleep through all that. “again, what do you mean kei? i do love him,” hinata holds kageyama a little harder as he continued speaking, “i wouldn’t marry him if i didn’t. he’s been my fiancé since we were 15, i think it’s safe to stay we’re in it for the long run.”. he sat in silence for a few seconds, checking the screen to see if he got disconnected or something, til yamaguchi spoke up and said that tsukki went to get some coffee because it was “too early in the morning to process this” and that he’ll get some as well. he left after promising that both tsukki and him will be at the wedding. yachi waited til yamaguchi left before speaking up again, this time sounding a lot more calmed and collected.
“so, summer wedding? will there be volleyball?”
“after the main events of the reception, yes. nat-chan and tobio didn’t want the whole wedding to be volleyball-themed.”
yachi stayed silent on the other end, but hinata could tell that she was nodding to herself and forgot that he couldn’t see her. she promised that she’d be there at the wedding too and that she’d handle calming down everyone else in their massive volleyball group chat that had almost every japanese volleyball player they knew from high school. hinata smiles and thanks her for being a great friend before ending the call and curling up against his partner.
when the day finally came, everyone’s shock and suspicions vanished as they watched the two exchange their vows. it wasn’t just kageyama’s unfiltered happiness that surprised them- but hinata’s too. everyone knows the man for his sunshine-like presence and energy, but they’ve never seen him smile the way he was smiling at kageyama at the alter. their love and devotion for each other was undeniable. in fact, everyone couldn’t believe that they didn’t notice it sooner because there was something in the way the two of them look at each other that everyone has seen at some point in time. it was the same way they’ve always looked at each other, with immense fondness and trust.

there's two things about kageyama that karasuno is absolutely sure about:
1. kageyama can't smile
for the life of him, he just cannot smile even if he tries his best. it just comes out so awkward or just straight up weird. (my boy has an insecurity about it too :()
and
2. animals don't like kageyama
it's not his fault, really, he just naturally scares them away without even knowing how. he loves them and would like to, at the very least, pet them because, for him, owning one is a far fetched dream regardless of how much he would love to have one.
karasuno has made a bet about the first one: the one who makes kageyama smile first gets off their gym cleaning duty for 2 months (yes, even tsukishima. at first he was blackmailed into it but later his he continued due to his own curiousity and interest, you didn't hear this from me cause i do not want to die at the hand of a salt shaker).
at first it was only karasuno but slowly, it spread across every school from miyagi to tokyo and even inarizaki joined in when atsumu invited himself into the challenge.
the closest anyone had gotten was yachi, who didn't have the bet in mind when she bought him a new pair of knee pads as a thank you for fending off a creep from her class. sure it wasn't exactly a smile, but no one has ever seen that expression on kageyama's face, it at least deserves an honourable mention. (oikawa sure tried way harder after that for someone who claims to hate kageyama.)
the second one was akaashi during their trianing camp in tokyo. not knowing how to compliment the 1st year setter, akaashi just patted him on the head and muttered a 'nice toss.'
sugawara got so pissed off at the expression on kageyama's face (not because of the expression itself, but because it wasn't him or anyone from their team who was responsible for it oikawa kinnie much?), he literally dragged back kageyama to practice tosses with him instead of akaashi and kuroo.
but the one who actually achieved the ultimate surprised pretty much everyone involved.
almost everyone had expected hinata to be the to make kageyama smile.
if not hinata, maybe sugawara or at least iwaizumi.
but no, the one who did was one of the least expected person, if not the least.
kenma didn't really care about the bet much. he wasn't close to kageyama and the chills that ran down his spine when he first met the setter were enough to make him stay away from him.
he never really tried to participate in it, though he could definitely see the appeal of not cleaning the gym for 2 months. (other schools had different rewards, but nekoma had unanimously decided to copy karasuno's.)
it was during a break after one of the practice matches between karasuno and nekoma.
kenma had gone out to find a spot where he could peacefully (read: without a kuroo to annoy him) play a few games before the next match started.
however, as he neared the stars, he saw a very familiar calico looking up at him with eyes so adorable, it would be a crime not to indulge the little thief for a while.
but as soon as kenma had picked up the cat, he felt goosebumps crawl up his spine. he turned around to see kageyama staring at him (at the little bundle in his hands particularly) pretty intensely.
the black haired boy didn't seem to do it intentionally because his gaze didn't flatter even when kenma moved a bit towards the door to possibly run towards a staircase near one of the club rooms.
noticing that kenma cleared his throat, which seemed to snap back the other setter into reality. his eyes widened a little before he instantly bowed down.
in a low voice, the words that left his own mouth surprised kenma, 'd-do, er, you want to pet it?'
it seems as though it surprised even kageyama as he stood back up and blinked a few times in confusion before speaking, scratching the back of his head, 'animals don't like me much.'
'i'll hold it up, you can pet it then,' kenma was at disbelief at himself today. why was he so insistent on getting the setter to pet the cat that he had unofficially adopted.
all that thought had vanished though. 'really?' the shine that glazed kageyama's eyes and the small quirk of his lips upward made kenma want to reach out and pet him on his head.
kenma just held the cat up as a reply.
there was a hesitation present in the way kageyama lifted his hand up, but slowly and steadily he moved forward and placed his hand on top of the calico's head.
the purr that left the cat seemed to shock kageyama for a few moments before a big, innocent and a happiness inducing smile broke onto his face.
when a series of gasps made their way to kenma, he realized that they both were being watched. so it wasn't his fault really, that his jump had scared the cat, kageyama and himself.
the calico just jumped out of his hand and ran out the door while kageyama was still looking at the place the cat was there just moments ago.
kenma wasn't really interested in the challenge, neither had he tried, nor planned, at least once to participate in it.
but he wasn't complaining about the final outcome. especially the gym cleaning duty that was off his hands for 2 months.

just a drabble that popped into my head :P headcanon in a way i guess?
i will protect kageyama tobio with my life. he's way too precious.
didn't proof read it because right now im in the bus to return back home so if you happen to read the whole way through and find any mistakes please do point them out!
also i did not intend any of the relationships here to be romantic, everything was written with platonic interactions in mind.
peace out! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧

Tickletober Day 11: Endurance
Lee: Kiyoko
Ler: Yachi
Ship: Romantic
————————————————-
“Yoko?”
“Yes”
“How come you don’t do track anymore”
“Oh well it’s because, I tore my acl when I had jumped over a hurdle, and so I had to sit out for like 8 or 9 months. I still had to train my leg to function properly I couldn’t jump right back into track, so when Suga, Asahi, and Daichi needed a volleyball manger. I offered since I had nothing better to do and plus I would be able to hangout with them. What made you ask?” Kiyoko explained. She was confused on what made her girlfriend randomly ask her that.
“Nothing I had just heard that from Daichi, and I’m sorry that happened” Yachi apologized.
“Aww Darling there’s nothing to be sorry about all you did was ask a question” Kiyoko chuckled as she gave her a kiss.
“And I’m probably a bit rusty anyways like my form, my speed, timing, and endurance stuff like that” Kiyoko giggled.
“Whaddya mean? You’re still fast and your endurance is outstanding” yachi complimented.
“Thankyou well I’m flattered, but I still would need to get back in shape in order to try out and make a team” Kiyoko smiled, blushing at the compliment.
“I can help you with your endurance”
“What you gonna run with me? That’s sweet but you don’t have to” Kiyoko asked, before answering her own question. Happy that her girlfriend wants to ‘help’ her.
“Nooooo I’m not running, buuuuut you’ll be laughing” yachi hinted with a grin on her face, before pouncing onto Kiyoko.
“Wait whAHAt yahahachi” she was confused until yachi scribbled at her sides.
“Yes lover girl~? That’s my name” Yachi teased.(she learned this confidence stuff from Tanaka and noya)
“Why ahahahare yohohou dohohoing thihis”
“Aww you forgot I already told you, I’m helping you with your endurance” Yachi said, with a smug look on her face (which she learn from Tanaka).
“Hohohow is thihihis hehehehelping?!”
“Baby~ I am tickling you, which takes LOTSS of stamina. Aka which is helping you reach your endurance level that you want.” Yachi rambled on with her lie, only to enjoy her girlfriends laughter.
Before Kiyoko had gotten the little bit of strength she had left, to grab Yachi’s tickly hands.
“Haha I stihill got ihit”
“Woah your endurance is amazing even better than Sho’s” her eyes twinkled, she looked around to see if he heard what she just said.
“Yeah now let’s test out how well you can Endure tickling” kiyoko wiggled her fingers at her.

friends or more?
warnings- fluff, a lil suggestive, fem reader also ik about the stutters might be cringy to some people but thats just how yachi is okay
summary- you and yachi are always together, but hinata may have caught feelings for both of you girls. hes stuck in a dilemma, whilst you and yachi are still confused about what you're guys's relationship is.°~~~~~°~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~°~~~~~~°~~~~~~°~
you and yachi were always together. maybe its the fact that you both are roommates, but even then you always are with her and shes always with you. "do you think that they might be dating?" hinata asked. "i wont be surprised if they were" tsuki replyed with.hinata had always liked you so much. he also liked yachi. he was so confused on who he should confess to. though the way you, yachi look at each other, isnt very friendship like. truth be told you have thought about making out with her, kissing her, cuddling her, and maybe even more (yk what i mean *WINK WINK*). and even if you dont know about this, yachi also thinks the same about you. maybe its the way that yachi always lets you put your hand around her waist. maybe the way that you always spoon her, but always insist that its a friendship, because you don't know who she likes. even though to others it's pretty obvious that she likes you, you are too in love with her that you became oblivious to everything around you. "ya-chan!" hinata yelled. as usual yachi yelped in fright. "hey i have a question! are you gonna come to the party at yamaguchis?" "ah.. idk i was gonna go out with yn...sorry.." she replyed. "oh okay! also, are you dating yn? cuz you guys reallyy dont seem like 'just friends" hinata asks. "o-oh! well idrk how she feels but i really like her a lot! hopefully she feels the same!" oh. hinata felt a pain in his heart. he knew that this would happen but he wasnt ready for it. but he didnt mind. he wanted to help yachi and you as much as he can so their happiness can make him feel better. but little did yachi and hinata know, was that you were passing by the hall and heard their conversation. "oh well, schools over and i should go, i hope you both do get into a relationship tho! well bye!!" Hinata said bye and yachi returned that bye. she was walking down the hall and she saw you leaning on the window. she walked up to you. "so.. i guess someone caught feelings for me?" you cockly asked. "huh? wait what- how did you know?!" yachi responded flustered. "i heard your conversation with Hinata dumbass, you guys do kinda talk pretty loud." you replyed with. you notice that yachi was nervous. "oh dont worry, i thought that you knew, but i like you a lot, like a lot a lot." you stated. yachi put her head down and tears started hitting the ground. "huh, wait im sorry! i didnt mean to do anything!" you said, trying to comfort her. "no you didnt do anything *sniff sniff* its just embarrassing that you heard me say that, and also you like me??!!!" she said while bawling her eyes out. you couldnt help but chuckle, "aww... your so cute, its okay its not embarrassing" you said and kissed her head. she fainted after that.

There wasn't any indication as to why you started to feel the way you do, maybe you were tired. It could be from stress, school work has been piling up so it wasn't a stretch to say that you might've been feeling a little burnt out. But deep down, you know exactly why. You're just too embarrassed to say it out loud, because what kind of person would you be to think that your friends were that shallow? A bad manager and an even more awful friend, that's what.
Everyone has been asking about you, concerned for your lack of response as of late. You barely look up from your notebook, something about a 'full proof strategy for their next game'. One so full proof it apparently doesn't need any input from the team or Kiyoko...or the coach... It's obvious you're trying to avoid them without being absent. Which makes it even more strange, usually you'd want to get away from the people you're avoiding. So why aren't you?
"Oh no, [Y/N] lookout!" A voice suddenly calls out, snapping you out of your thoughts just as you see a ball coming straight for you.
Before you could react, someone beat it to you, "I got it!" A hand reaches out and blocks the ball, you don't register who it is until—
"Nice save, Yacchan!"
Of course.
Yachi was the one who saved your face from getting pummeled while you sat there with your head in the clouds. All the more reason the team should just— just—
Just kick you off the team.
Ah.
There it is.
That's what's been on your mind. Why it was so hard for you to actually avoid them, you were scared to be pushed aside while trying to encourage them to do so. Thinking you were being good at your job, only to see someone new do it better.
You feel like you've been lacking as a manager, despite being in the club for longer. It felt like the newcomer, Yachi, was doing a lot better in the short time she's here. You know it was unwarranted, she's been nothing but helpful. Picking up all the little things you and Kiyoko taught her. The team also welcomed her with open arms, as did you.
It was a gradual realization on your end, with 3 managers on standby, it's easy to lose track of who does what job. But more and more it felt like you've been doing the least out of the 3 of you. It really affected you, even without you knowing.
You start to forget routines, things like after school clean up duty, homework, even going as far as to forget planned hangouts. It felt like all you wanted to do was finish the day as quickly as possible, you don't even get up from your seat much anymore. Your indifference in class is mostly likely why no one tried approaching you for stuff, which makes sense, you probably look unapproachable anyway.
Well, almost unapproachable. If it weren't for Tsukishima, who chose to come up to you on days you fully ignore the team.
"What's up with you?" His words were short and lacked any poise, fitting for the only first year keen on riling up opponents and allies alike.
"...Nothing is, I'm fine" Much like Tsuki, your words were curt. Hoping that the less you answer, the more he's inclined to leave you alone.
Giving you an unconvinced look paired with an equally unconvinced once over, he shrugs and turns to leave you be.
"Suit yourself"
That hurts more than anything your own mind can throw at you, because all it does is convince you further that they're better off without you. All you've been doing is feeling bad about yourself, starting to forget everything important in favor of ignoring the problem.
But strangely enough, even when you forget, nothing seems to have any big consequences. When you realize you forgot about cleanup duty, your class partner just shrugs, saying your friend stayed behind and helped them instead. You think that it could've been Yamaguchi, he sometimes helps with cleaning duty when someone's partner goes home early.
It makes you feel worse about your moping, inconveniencing not one but two people. All because you can't convince yourself that just because Yachi is doing a lot better than you, it doesn't mean you're useless.
Right?
Not to mention the heartwarming messages from your friends when you don't show up to a hangout, they seem so understanding in spite of how you don't even tell them anything. The messages telling you to "Take care of yourself" and "Work things out at your own pace" could honestly make you cry.
Even the team tries their best to cheer you up, or at least to get your attention. You can't lie and say you don't see Hinata trying to get the other first years to pull some cool volleyball stunt he saw once, hoping that you'll congratulate them. It's hard to ignore it, especially when you can just feel his occasional stare, trying to get a reaction from you. But, as much as you want to cheer them on, you just can't do that. And yet, they're still so understanding. Trying to raise your spirit, Yachi even tried to start a conversation with you by asking for help on different managerial duties. But to no avail, all you do is point her in the right direction before going back to your place in the stands. Her efforts weren't in vain, but not enough to really get to you.
But it doesn't add up, how would they know you're going through a tough time? Are you really that obvious? You probably are. Either way, it's sweet of them to still think about you even when you're basically ditching them.
What does make sense to you is the homework, which you still end up submitting on time. All thanks to, you guessed it, Tsukishima. He just started reminding you about homework due in 2 days, complete with the pages and formulas needed. A smart comment about your recent forgetfulness is always attached to the message, something to remind you that it's from Tsuki of all people.
Someone you got to know through Yamaguchi, a mutual friend of yours, and if that's not enough, then being on the same team definitely is. As a manager on said team, you were always there for whatever sarcastic quip he had at the ready. Complete with every short joke ever made and that snide smile of his almost everyday. Needless to say, it didn't take long for a friendship to bloom. No longer hanging out only when Yams was around, you both built a routine for when you have each other. Yet you were always one to break routine for something new, a habit the tall beanpole never fails to challenge.
"Why do I have to come with you? You can just go alone" He says, not too keen on the idea of skipping your usual bakery visit for a cafe.
"Because I don't want to go alone and you're the only free one" You were always so sure he'd come with you anyway, to the point where you don't even try to convince him anymore.
He did end up going with you in the end, even if he did have his complaints here and there. But overall, it was one of the few times you can visibly see him having a good time. You chose a cafe themed around the stars and space in general, which you knew Tsuki liked quite a bit. Sure it would've been better to go to a dinosaur themed cafe, but the ones you know about are all the way in Tokyo and Fukui. Nevertheless, that space cafe visit was definitely a core memory in both your and Tsukishima's friendship, no matter how much that salt shaker wanted to deny it.
Though you did promise that one day, both of you would go together.
As friends, cause that's what you are, right?
Wait, actually do you even remember what happened after the space cafe? Wasn't it really important?
It feels like you know exactly what it is, it's a *fact* that you remember what it is. But much like everything else around you, it as well, whether you mean to or not, is pushed to the back of your head. Your thoughts start to discourage your resolve in this self-driven solitude of yours, built upon claims with no support. But why would the evidence matter if the claim itself is enough to make you believe?
It really felt like you were going to keep up this ruse forever, nothing really served as a consequence to you. The only thing keeping you in this state were the small glimpses of the team above your notebook, always up to some dumb fun. Something you always looked forward to in spite of the grueling practice ahead of them, well it was something you looked forward to.
Your eyes catch onto the other first years happily chatting with each other, except for Tsuki who preferred to stand on the sidelines, only chiming in to add a sprinkle of sarcasm into the conversation. That seems fun, you knew it was. As you watch everyone laugh at something Yachi says, something in you starts coiling around your heart.
You're suddenly aware of every breath you take, your thoughts start to repeat 'breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out...'
Your surroundings start to feel heavy, like you were tethered to your place. The sound of your own breathing feels louder than the voices in the gym. So focused on your empty notebook that everything else blurs at the edges of your vision.
It wasn't until you caught golden-brown eyes staring at you from across the court, genuine concern masked under a nonchalant gleam. You hold his gaze for longer than you'd like, unsure if there's anything else hidden under the bespectacled stare.
Tsuki only tilts his head in the direction of the other first years, probably telling you to come with them. You can only refuse, solemnly shaking your head. They can't possibly want you there with them, not after ignoring them for the better part of a week. It wouldn't be right to just butt in like that.
He probably knows that you're still not giving in, because it looked like he let out a sigh before walking towards them. Not before one last stare down with you, his gaze asking if you're sure about your decision. You can only hesitantly nod, you're not sure, you don't want to pick this decision, but you've convinced yourself that you're backed into a corner.
A corner you made up.
Well, no use in thinking about it now.
"Oi [Y/N], I'm gonna lock up the gym now! Better get going" Oh coach Ukai, you forgot he was still here. Taking your notebook and pen into your arms, you nod at the coach before heading towards the exit. Body slightly hunched over when you pass him, unable to look at him in the eye.
"Whatever it is you're going through, you know they got your back, right kiddo?" Ukai suddenly says, right before you leave. It makes you stand in your place for a while, thinking. You know they do, it just doesn't feel right to, especially when you didn't give them a valid reason for your distance.
"Y-yeah…Thanks, coach" You mumble, fully facing away from him. Turning to leave, when you catch a glimpse of the orange sky outside. Realizing how late it got, you break into a sprint back to your classroom.
Through the now empty halls, doused in ombre. No other soul in sight, leaving the sounds of your footsteps to be heard. The sky is beautiful today…wouldn't it be fun to experience it together?
Your pace slows right in front of your classroom, 1-4 written on a sign next to the door. Putting your hands on your knees to catch your breath from all the running, you stop to admire the light that passes through your classroom door.
And that's when you heard it, the faint scratching of a chalkboard being erased, you'd know that sound anywhere. It's soft, you could barely hear it over your own breaths, who could be cleaning it at this time? You know your partner didn't come to school today, they were sick. You yourself forgot, so why would anyone be there?
Slowly peeking through the door frame, you see a lone figure standing by the chalkboard. Short blond hair, a lean figure, headphones over his neck, the wire hanging loose. It's him, the one you felt the most guilt for. You watch him for a while, lazily swiping the eraser across the chalkboard.
So that's who your cleanup partner was talking about.
It wasn't Yamaguchi…
It was Tsuki.
He's been the one filing in for you, the one picking up after you. The one who kept pushing you to just talk to the team from a distance, he was looking out for you. The one that's been trying to reach out in his own way, you feel so stupid. Running away while your…
Your…
Your...
Own boyfriend looks out for you even when you unfairly pushed him away.
Your eyes glaze over and your breathing interchanges between short huffs and long shaky sighs. Feeling like you owe so much to him, keeping you afloat in an ocean of your own solitude. Step by step, you make your way over. Speeding up the closer you got.
Reaching him, you immediately press your face into his back. Arms wrapping around his waist, grabbing at the fabric of his school uniform to keep yourself in place. You can feel him tense, before slowly relaxing and going back to his cleaning. The guilt eating up at you even more, you clench your fists around his uniform, trembling in your place. Your lip trembles slightly, making your words sound even more pathetic than they already are.
"I'm…I-I'm so-so-...so-sor—ry—!" You sob, voice breaking off the same way you are. No words could express the mix of relief and remorse you feel, relief to be able to express your true feelings and remorse for your actions that didn't. Your eyes fill with tears that linger at their edge, waiting for a push to get them down.
"You better be, do you know how much they miss you? Those idiots won't stop asking me about you" Kei's words striking right through your heart, the coil no longer tight. Your tears finally fall as your cries get louder. You press your face further into your boyfriend's back for comfort, letting out all the pent up feelings you've harbored the past week.
"I…I just f-felt like—like I wa-was u-useless!" You whimper, sobs reduced to short intakes of air between big breaths.
"Idiot…" Turning to face you fully, Kei's hand settles itself on the top of your head, sliding down to the back. Pushing you further into an embrace of his own, refusing to look at you. One hand on the back of your head, the other fiddling with his headphone wires.
All that you've done, the distance you tried to make, it all came tumbling down. All at once. It was never supposed to take hold of you the way it did, so all you needed was something to justify ending it. Kei, is that something.
"It's just tha-that—Yachi is such-such a good mana–ger…be-better than me…" The words flow out before you could stop them, a confession to your actions. Hearing it out loud, you truly realize how weak your reasons are. It just shows how little it took to have you questioning your worth as a member of the team, laid out in front of the both of you.
"..." His silence causes you to meekly look up at him, afraid of what he might think. Kei was always good at keeping a neutral face, never making it easy for you to know what he's thinking.
"I don't want to stop being your guys' manager…" You lower your head, voice a whisper, lip still quivering slightly.
"Then don't, no one's telling you to quit"
Huh.
"But—" You quickly look back up at him.
"But nothing, Yachi's great and all but when will we ever get another clutz like you who pays for my drink?" He has a smug look on his face after saying that, eyes filled with nothing but mischief.
You say nothing, words stuck in your throat. Still staring at his stupid smile, he's probably so proud of himself for that. But, you knew he said that to cheer you up. Something to keep you out of your own head, and it's working.
"Way to ruin the moment…" You mumble, "Could've been a bit more dramatic" A soft smile takes over your expression, already feeling much more relieved than before.
"You can do that by yourself," Kei retorts, looking at you from the corner of his eye.
"But you'd still do it with me" Your smile grows, eyes filled with adoration for the pretty face in front of you. After being alone for the better part of a week, it was nice to finally talk again. Even if you had so much making up to do, to everyone in the team, maybe you could start with the one who still held you close.
"Oh? You sound so sure of yourself for someone who's been running away from me" Eyebrow raised in faux skepticism, waiting for your answer.
"I promise I'll make it up to you first" You tell him, before burying your face back into his front, basking in his familiar scent and warmth where you feel most at ease.
"You better"
And you will. To all of them.
Tumblr media
Walking home from school during sunset is a special kind of rare to you, barely anyone on the streets. Your newfound goal for the following week, circling in your mind. Beside you was Kei, matching your pace with long strides contrasting your own smaller steps.
"Kei…Do you want to stop by Paprika heaven?" You suddenly ask.
"Paprika heaven? Really?" Kei is not convinced you're being serious, you can practically sense that raised brow.
"It's a cafe! I know the name isn't the sweetest sounding but trust me on this!" You insist, letting out an exasperated huff.
"Shouldn't it be closed?" He questions further, still doubtful.
"It closes at 9, I checked" You proudly exclaim, crossing your arms with a content look on your face.
Kei rolls his eyes at your antics, "Alright, I yield" he raises his hands in surrender, yet a smirk still makes its way onto his face, "But you're paying"
You freeze, realizing that he's right. You are going to pay for it, with your own money. Immediately, your figure deflates dramatically. Slouching forward with an exaggerated groan.
"Right…" Your wallet will never forgive you. But not because Paprika Heaven was too expensive, a piece of your soul just dies whenever you take out a remotely large amount of money from your wallet.
This apparently amuses your boyfriend because he starts laughing, so much so that his shoulders move in time with each laugh. He turns to look at your stunned figure, which only entertains him more. Hearing his mocking laughter, it shakes you out of your stupor. Irritation starts to take hold of you, wanting him to stop laughing at your obvious misery.
"Wha—?! Stop laughing!" Your fists make contact with your boyfriend's chest, repeatedly hitting him to get him to shut.
"I'm serious! I might become poor after this!"
"That's your own fault" In between laughs, Kei is still able to call you out. Seriously, can't he take this seriously?
After a while he calms down, wiping a single tear from his eye. You also calm down, arms tired from the repeated attacks on your boyfriend. Leaning your forehead on his chest to rest, eyes closing on their own from the change in atmosphere. Kei only stands proud, hands in his pockets and a grin spread across his face in content.
Comfortable silence wash over you, the sun still peeking just beyond the horizon, lighting up the road just enough for you to see the way ahead. It's way too late for a bunch of high school students to be out, let alone ones who plan on staying out. But that doesn't matter, you can take the worried lectures from your parents later. Right now, you want to make up for lost time.
"Kei—," You raise your head to face him, taking a deep breath,
"Thank you" A closed eyed smile appears on your face, "For still putting up with me"
"...Whatever" He looks away from you, eyes gazing over the road in front of you.
But no matter how much he tries to hide it,
You can still see that small genuine smile on his face.

I absolutely love how well you characterize Oikawa because before I read your fics, I saw Oikawa as an ambitious playboy who wouldn’t want to settle down or would have commitment issues outside of volleyball. Could you expand on your inspiration for how you drew those different qualities so well out of his canon character?
(You’re so fucking talented and phenomenal, I hope you know that💗💗💗💗💗💗💗)
so my philosophy towards writing any of my oikawa's is simple: hit it til it breaks.
oikawa, once he sets his mind on something, is relentless. he's gonna give everything to get what he wants, and in a yandere setting, that just so happens to be the reader.
now if we're talking commitment issues, as far as yandere fics go it's sort of a moot point. the character is obsessed with the reader, therefore the idea of settling down/commitment because sort of null. of course they're going to want the reader around at all times, away from everyone else, tucked away safe and sound <33
having said that, i know that that's sometimes how oikawa is portrayed in fanon, because he is charming and yes he does have lots of fangirls (and fanboys i'm sure) but... where is the canon evidence??
there is exactly one mention of oikawa having a love life in haikyuu – takeru tells kageyama that oikawa got all sad because his girlfriend dumped him, which to me doesn't give playboy vibes. it gives obsessed with volleyball to the point you forget you have a gf vibes (but you're still bummed out about it).
yes he does have fangirls, but he's not trying to hit on them like we see with say terushima, or even yahaba with yachi or the summer camp guys with kiyoko. he's charming and nice to them, maybe a little flirty but it's pretty harmless.
now in high school, i'd say yeah, volleyball is number one, the only thing on oikawa's mind. however similar to hinata, oikawa's got his own path to figuring out that pushing things to the absolute limit all the time can be hugely detrimental. plus, outside of a dark fic setting, i happen to like the idea of oikawa realising the benefits of having a support system via a partner, coming home and having that comfort/whatever. that same determination still applies, but it's a much healthier, more balanced approach.
as for a yandere oikawa (assuming we're going with a canon setting of him as a pro volleyball player) you dial back the healthy balance and push more of that, 'i want both and i'm going to have both, no matter what stands in the way' mentality. he can dominate at volleyball and work his way to be the very best, and he can and will have the reader to himself as well.
now if we're talking settling down to have a family, it's not something i blindly paint across every single one of my oikawa fics. certain iterations, like say in scion, the usual suspects or even heedless heartless, while not necessarily averse to the idea, aren't racing to knock the reader up any time soon. wife her up, sure, in a heartbeat, but that's more to tie her legally to them, because it strokes their pride and their ego, solidifies that bond.
pregnancies, and subsequently children, do also have that affect, but i think there's a lot to be said for the selfishness too, and wanting to have the reader alllll to themselves before they have to share her with a kid. as was the case with the drabble i wrote, that oikawa wasn't above using said children to manipulate the reader either. it ain't always a wholesome thing haha.
we know oikawa has a big sister, and that he's involved in taking care of takeru – or at the very least involved with babysitting/occasionally minding him. clearly oikawa cares about takeru, to me it's not so much of a leap to think that a) family matters to him and b) he'd one day see himself having kids.
my approach to writing dark takes on canonically good guys – in haikyuu's case at least, is always to take what we're given in canon and twist it to the extreme. oikawa's determined, talented, charming, a little obsessive, he's got a bit of a vindictive mean streak and he's got a bit of a complex. when i write him, i take all of those traits, dial them to eleven and then make the decision exactly how fucked up and cruel i wanna make him this time hgjfkdlknvjfkd
