Hey Everyone!
N0n-B1nary here. I'm very happy to announce that my first album, "Long Walks and Short Tangents" is now available on Spotify!
This album has a pretty wide range of instrumental themes, but most are in the softer, lofi categories that are great to study , write, do chores or just zone out to.
Two of the songs, "Translating an Akkadian Script with the help of Some Cheap Coffee" and "Sometimes Letting Go Of Your Past Means Crossing Mountain Ranges And Barbed Wire" were directly inspired by two characters from the fantastic Syntax Podcast made by @twinstrangersp , who are starting their crowdfunding campaign for season 3! Huge shout-out for their continued encouragement and support!
I can't stop thinking about the "desperate to keep them x has to stay but will never love them" and it's funny because I was going to say that "Starring Role" by Marina and the Diamonds reminded me of that snippet, but then I remembered I got that song from your "specific villain vibes" recommendations 😂 It fits so well though, so I was wondering if you wrote that snippet listening to that song??? Or if you write with music or prefer silence?
This playlist
I almost always have music on. I can't remember what specifically I was listening to when I wrote that one.
It might have been my villainous playlist, which includes songs from the previous playlist. It's just less specific. It's all my villain vibes.
The last song I wrote with specifically was Red Right Hand, originally by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, but I like the Karliene cover.
The two songs I'm currently obsessed with, not that you asked but hey ho that's why it's obsession, are: Labour by Paris Paloma and Escapism by Raye.
Picture this. You’re minding your own business when out of nowhere you’re struck with creative genius. This new story idea consumes your every waking thought, playing out like a brilliant movie inside your head. However, when you try to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), words fail you. It’s a dilemma all writers face in their career. How do you turn an idea into reality? Don’t fight it. Explore it.
Fun Fact: There’s no right or wrong place to begin building your fictional world. You define your creation journey. The trick is finding what works best for you specifically.
Are you more visual? Pinterest is a great source of inspiration. Keyword searches are your friend. What is a keyword? It’s a “significant word from a title or document used especially as an index to content.” Type in a word(s) into the search bar that summarizes the aesthetic you’re visualizing and let the magic happen. This could be anything from a color, time period, genre, trope, etc. Take one of my own creations, Scavenge Clan, for example. Keywords I associate with it include: hyena, werehyena, bones, gothic, scavenger, vulture culture, vultures, black-haired women, death. Over time, your searches will affect your algorithm, giving you more ideas that line up with your stories in the long run.
Are you more auditory? Creating Spotify playlists that remind you of your story and/or characters can help give you more inspiration and set the mood for when you start writing.
Are you both visual and auditory? I love collecting fan made tribute videos on YouTube of TV shows and movies that give me a source of inspiration for my stories. For example, the TV show Grimm with a splash of the grounders from The 100 inspired my main story universe The Culling Wars.
Wherever you draw inspiration from, take advantage of it. Use it to expand your ideas and to help you when you’re feeling stuck. Remember that every bestselling novel started as a mere idea.

Shuffle your favorite playlist and post the first five songs that come up. Then copy/paste this ask to your favorite mutuals
So, I usually listen to music either when I'm driving or when I'm writing. And unless my son is controlling the music selection (in which case we listen to either the Bluey OST or Laurie Berkner...), I usually like to pick something that matches the mood of whatever scene I'm brainstorming/writing. These are all from the playlist I've put together for my current WIP project! It's something of an action fic, which I think is about to be obvious.

I've been pretty absent from Tumblr, so I have no idea who has already participated in this, but I'll tag @misseffect @otemporanerys @diaphanouso @milkywayes @lilmissnatcat24, but no pressure, of course!
Immersive writing session for all aspiring writers
Hey, guys!
About a month ago I started a small asmr music channel and, in honor of NANOWRIMO, I've decided to start a new series on there with writing sprints. This is not a new concept but basically if you can carve out 2 hours to write, you can use the video for immersion, focus and productivity. I've been using these types of videos while I write for some time now and I've found that they help me shut out distractions and my word count has increased pretty dramatically.
There's 4 time sprints included, with 5 minute breaks in between. This particular playlist mixes sounds of nature with calm and reflective guitar music.
The theme of this first session is "Camping in the mountains" and, in addition to the music, it also contains 4 different visual environments that are related to tranquil and idyllic camping in nature (without the strenuous hiking, low temperatures and threat of bears).
I'll leave the link below for anyone who is interested and, if you enjoy it, please consider subscribing and liking the video. I plan on making more writing sprints in the future and your support would mean a lot to me. In case you have any other suggestions of visual and auditory environments you'd like to write in, let me know.
You can really find anything on the internet. I searched google for a playlist that was "Slytherin, but classical" and look what came up. It's excellent and exactly what I wanted.
The “I want it resonate with people” and “I don't give a shit about what you think” are both absolutely valid thoughts to experience simultaneously while making art
