I haven't felt the urge to write in a month.
I'm sorry to hear that. The fog is hard to see through sometimes. Try small steps like:
Making a map
Just outlining a scene
Talking about your work with another writer
Reading (I find audiobooks very helpful when the fog comes on)
It's important to take breaks. I'm sure the thought has crossed your mind that you might never return to the work and that can be frightening, but if you try to force yourself to go back to it that will almost surely happen.
Don't worry about taking breaks from your work. It'll be okay.

Bollywood News - Screenwriters Advocate for Fair Contracts Amid Industry Crisis
Tumblr media
Mumbai, India - In the wake of Hollywood's recent contract battles, Bollywood's screenwriters are now raising their voices against what they deem as "unfair" contracts that stifle creativity and financial growth. The Screenwriters Association (SWA), India's equivalent of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), is at the forefront of this movement, aiming to address the alleged power imbalance between producers and writers in the country's thriving film industry.
Harsh Contracts Stifle Creativity
Anjum Rajabali, a senior member of the SWA, highlights the challenges faced by Bollywood writers, citing the prevalence of arbitrary termination clauses, inadequate fees, and restrictions on approaching the union in case of disputes. The SWA, with over 55,000 members nationwide, recently convened a meeting where prominent writers, including Abbas Tyrewala and Sriram Raghavan, discussed changes they desire in their contracts.
Rajabali emphasizes the need for more equitable contracts, asserting that most producers agree on the necessity for improved pay and job security for writers. The BBC reached out to the Producers Guild of India for comment, but no response has been received at the time of writing.
Echoes of Hollywood Strike Empower Indian Writers
Inspired by the successful outcome of the writers' strike in Hollywood last year, Indian screenwriters are gaining confidence to demand better terms. However, experts note that a strike in India is less likely due to industry dynamics, where relationships play a crucial role in securing work. Additionally, the sheer number of aspiring writers waiting for opportunities contributes to a more cautious approach.
The evolution of writer-producer contracts in India is a relatively recent phenomenon, dating back to the mid-2000s. Previously, agreements were verbal, and payments were irregular. Rajabali points out that as corporate funding increased, contracts became more prevalent but also harsher, exacerbating the challenges faced by writers.
Protecting Producers, Exploiting Writers
Writers argue that some contracts include clauses requiring them to indemnify producers for losses resulting from protests or controversies related to a film. This stems from an uptick in instances where hardline groups target films, citing religious sentiments. Rajabali deems this clause unfair, asserting that writers shouldn't be held responsible for protests against a film after selling the script.
A Glimmer of Hope Amidst Challenges
While many writers face financial hardships and creative constraints, some producers are taking steps to address these concerns. Nikhil Taneja, from Bollywood production company Yuvaa, acknowledges the exploitative nature of current contracts. Despite the inherent risks in filmmaking, Taneja has introduced a rare clause in his company's contracts, linking writers' fees to the project's budget, providing some relief for writers.
Taneja points out the complexity of filmmaking, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of success and failure. He acknowledges that writers deserve better treatment but suggests that industry-wide change will only occur when writers unite to demand their rights.
Looking Ahead: SWA Advocacy Continues
An optimistic Rajabali declares that the SWA will persist in its advocacy efforts, pushing for a minimum basic fee, due credit, and the removal of exploitative contract clauses. As the industry grapples with these challenges, the fight for fair contracts in Bollywood promises to be a long but perseverant one.
In the dynamic landscape of Bollywood news, the ongoing dialogue between writers and producers will undoubtedly shape the future of India's vibrant film industry.

1, 5, 6, 9, 17, 23 for the meta writer asks!
1: well i've got several pans on the burners at the minute - i've finished a first draft (of a book) for nosokinetic, and while i've put screenwriting on the burner in solidarity with the strike, i'm doing more one-shots and book stuff so i can figure out dynamics/scenes to adapt later or to see how far i can get into a first draft (specifically for damaged goods). as for my current project (odd foxes) what i love most about it is stepping out of my comfort zone a little bit by writing in a time i know a lot about but wasn't there for and exploring simple human interactions within a limited timeframe (rather than supernatural-types over multiple years).
5: caleb (noso), azz (damaged goods) but also felix (also damaged goods, for Very different reasons), art (odd foxes), and james (also odd foxes).
6: probably archie (noso), azz (damaged goods), rhys (damaged goods), mara (damaged goods), james (odd foxes), sarff (dergverse), and the dynamic between frank & literally anyone (in odd foxes) lmao
9: it depends on what i'm doing/what verse i'm working on - damaged goods, i'm more of a plotter because there's So much worldbuilding and plot arcs that i sort of Need to be while with odd foxes and noso i just wordvomit(ed) and wriggled stuff in as i go
17: honestly, i think people who read my stuff tend to perceive me very differently to how i actually am because of how i write and what i write about -- but in terms of my writing, i'd say generally me and the readers are roughly on the same page (although i know what happens/what's gonna happen and they don't), especially when it comes to the characters... in saying that tho, i think people are more likely to say that i'm very good at characterisation and dynamics than i tend to think i am.
23: oh everything to do with damaged goods has been in my head since i was 11 years old... like 18 years of worldbuilding, character stuff/changes/plot stuff/plot changes, just sitting in my head and in old folders & notebooks & god knows what else kjsgjkf

I'm afraid that even if I do get published that no one will like my work... and that my career will be over.
Tumblr media
I think we all share this fear and I feel a deep level of camaraderie with you. But I think you know, if you let this fear stop you, your work will never be out there. You might be missing out on a huge opportunity because of it.
I know it's scary and that words don't often help with that, but you've got to, at least, try to get your work out there.
