Operation: Wolfstar
Microfic for the @wolfstarmicrofic prompt ‘Blue Ink’
“What about if we-“ James went silent rather abruptly as the common room door opened, Remus stepping through into the cavernous space that was somehow made warm by the perpetually roaring fire and soft, worn sofas.
“Moony,” James greeted the other boy giving Sirius enough warning to snap his folder closed; “come and sit mate, how were rounds?”
It was sixth year, and Sirius was quietly enamoured with a completely unaware Remus Lupin, his best friend of six years. He figured that if he had any chance at all then Moony would’ve let him know by now. He’d been out since his parents kicked him out the year before, and only received quiet acceptance and occasional propositions from their classmates. Classmates that weren’t Remus. Safe to say they were let down gently.
“Nothing spectacular, everything looks set for Saturday night. What are you working on, Pads?”
As Remus leant forward over the coffee table, crowding Sirius from behind to get a look at the A4 Lever Arch folder that contained all sorts of plans and strategies that James had been helping him with. The folder that had ‘Operation: Wolfstar’ written in blue ink across the front of it.
“Just, just a prank me and Prongs are working on,” Sirius mumbled, blushing as he held the cardboard tightly to the table to avoid Remus getting a look at the plans inside; “nothing for you to see,”
“Oh,” Remus said quietly, sounding hurt as he sat backwards; “okay then. I have a bit of a date tonight. A study date. So I’ll see you later, alright?”
James whistled teasingly, falling dramatically to one side as Remus shoved him in the shoulder on his way past; “who’s it with, Moony?”
Remus chewed at his lip, the faintest tinge of pink high on his cheekbones as he watched them both for a long second before he spoke; “Caradoc. He asked me out and I thought… why not, y’know?”
“You-but-“ Sirius spluttered for a moment, pressing up onto his knees as he watched his best friend shift uncomfortably; “I thought- you like boys too?”
“I do,” Remus confirmed; “maybe- maybe just boys, actually. I know that Lina and I were together for a little while but it’s just not for me, I don’t think. That’s okay, right?”
Sirius was still gaping in shock at the revelation – this wasn’t a scenario he and Prongs had planned for.
James responded for the pair of them, kicking Sirius in the shin to get him to snap out of his shock; “of course it’s alright, Re, you know we don’t care, do we Padfoot?”
Gathering all the courage he could muster, Sirius tripped as he stood and rushed over to the lanky boy with wild hair that he wanted more than anything, taking both of his hands in his and holding them close.
What he meant to say was some sort of supportive statement, to reaffirm that Remus’ sexuality didn’t change anything. That they would still be the bestest of friends, Marauders for life. What actually came out was a little less sensical; “does that mean I have a chance?”
Remus choked on his breath at the shorter boys words, the earnestness in his eyes even as he turned bright red with embarrassment.
“You… you’d want a chance with me?”
“Of course he wants a chance with you, he’s planned your frigging bonding ceremony already!”
James’ exclamation made Sirius drop one of Remus’ hands in an attempt to smack the Potter boy, who now had the ‘Operation: Wolfstar’ folder open to the ‘weddings & ceremonies’ section.
The only thing that stopped him from chasing Prongs around the room was Remus pulling him closer, cupping his cheek in his large, scarred hand and forcing him to meet silver eyes to amber. He was so lost in the sensation of Remus’ thumb stroking slowly along the thick skin of his cheek, he nearly missed the careful whisper; “you have more than a chance, Sirius Orion. I didn’t- you should have said something, Pads,”
“I was scared you wouldn’t want me,” he murmured; “I’m too much-“
“Stop,” Remus commanded; “you are not too much. I don’t care what they told you, you are brilliant, and there is nothing about you that is too much for me.”
“Promise?”
“I promise,” Remus tugged him even closer, wrapping him up in his arms, making his feel safe and steady like no one else could. Soon, there was another weight at his back, James inserting himself into the hug and squeezing them both tightly together.

For your wip tag game and I'm very intrigued by #10 🤩 - the pairing? Hmmmmm flip a coin between wolfstar and drarry ♡
Hello, gorgeous anon!!
I answered number 10 here with rarepair rosekiller x lily. let's see how this looks with wolfstar, first war era. CW: war-typical trauma, deaths, grittiness, etc. once again i got lost in the lead-up sauce and the smut is more of an idea/some sexy lines :') happy ending tho (heh)
Ok i never write canon/first war wolfstar it's too depressing. BUT i think it gives us lots of delicious tension to have everything in the world so fucked up they stop caring about the consequences of outing themselves to each other (period-typical homophobia), or what would happen to their friendship, if one of them finally made a move.
We are deep into the war years. Lily and James have already gone into hiding. Neither remus nor sirius are home very often in their shared flat. They barely speak to each other these days.
benji has just been found in pieces.
You'd think by now they'd be used to it. the shock, another one of their friends gone in an instant. death surrounds them every day; they can't get more familiar with it. it's the air they breathe, it's the song in their heads that rocks them to sleep each night in their cold, separate beds.
yet here they are, well on their way to getting pissed on cheap firewhiskey, sitting on the floor of their small living room and not looking at each other.
not speaking to each other.
what words could they possibly say that they haven't each thought a million times over, like tickertape running nonstop behind their eyes. A litany of saints. Well, martyrs, at least.
They stopped believing they were saints a long time ago.
"fuck it." Sirius spits, his face cracking into some version of his old smile. he looks terrifying. Remus still thinks he's beautiful. "Truth or dare, moony mine?"
Remus nearly chokes on his firewhiskey. "i'm sorry?"
"what, you got something better to do?" Sirius grabs the bottle from Remus' hand, takes a swig. "truth or fucking dare."
"come on padfoot, i'm tired---"
"you're always tired"
"i just don't want to"
"you never want anything, anymore." and what sirius means, in a very small voice in the back of his head: you never want me anymore.
And despite everything, Remus still speaks fluent Padfoot.
"What kind of dares could we possible do anyway?---"
"Oh, I'm sure i can think of something" Sirius interjects.
"---we are stuck here, no where to go, very little magic we can do without giving ourselves away---"
Sirius cuts him off again. "Truth or dare, moony."
Remus grabs the bottle, glaring, utterly miserable but beneath that, a spark of something. nervousness?
"dare."
"Dare you to finish the bottle."
"If i do that we won't have any more to drink," Remus argues.
"Fair point. Dare you anyway."
"Fine." Remus finishes the last of the bottle, a good 3-4 shots worth of alcohol. He's not sure what the point of that was; Sirius isn't that drunk yet and honestly, his own werewolf metabolism can handle a lot more than this. This much alcohol will only just now start to hit him. Said metabolism makes your usual pain potions practically useless, unless he drinks the whole fucking flask, and at 10 galleons an ounce---
He stops that train of thought. He's been there too many times today alone. "Truth or dare," he says instead, and he finds he actually does feel a little more relaxed, a little more open, with the extra alcohol after all.
Sirius looks him in the eye. "truth."
If remus is shocked Sirius Take-the-Dare Black has picked truth, he doesn't show it, just holds the eye contact. "why don't you tell me anything anymore?"
Sirius answers immediately. "to keep you safe. Would you like truth or dare, Remus?"
Remus doesn't have time to even register he's saying it before his mouth opens automatically and "truth" comes out.
"Why don't you tell me anything anymore?"
And like before, Remus is answering before the thoughts even form in his head. "I'm scared. i'm scared i'm bad, i'll get you killed, i'll get you all killed, james and lily and harry and peter. we'll be next. and if i keep myself away from you, it's like, it's like i can protect you, or more, i can protect the idea of you. i could bear a lot but what i can't bear is losing who i thought you were." His mouth hangs open. a knot forms in his brow. "Sirius--"
"Ask me." Sirius' gaze is firm. unyielding. "Truth or dare."
Remus shakes his head, disoriented. "Sirius---" he tries again.
"Ask me." He shuffles up onto his knees, leans towards remus on all fours. A dog with a bone. "What do you really want to ask me, Remus?"
"Are you the spy?"
The answer is out of Sirius' mouth before Remus is even done asking.
"No. Are you the spy?"
Likewise, Remus' answer is immediate. "No."
and both their breaths are coming fast and shallow, and their hearts are roaring in their ears, and they just want to not be in their own heads for two goddamn seconds, and, well, Sirius was always the brave one---
"Do you want to kiss me?"
"Yes." Remus breathes. Just like that. 10 years of hiding this secret, from himself as well as everyone around him, and he gives it up. Just because Sirius Black asks.
Sirius' lip curls in triumph. He crawls closer, predator locking on his prey, and it's too hot and Remus is dizzy.
"Dare you," he whispers across his lips.
Sirius may be brave, but Remus has a kind of willpower that only comes with facing down the moon month after month.
"No."
Remus doesn't move to close the gap, but he doesn't move away either. Holds perfectly still, controlled, and the roles are reversed and the wolf is in charge and he's closing in on the dog--
"Not until you tell me, too."
---making him submit---
"Do you want want me the way i want you, Sirius Orion Black?"
Sirius' enthusiastic "yes" is more or less silent, as it's given to the press of Remus' lips.
OK HERE'S HOW THE SMUT GOES DOWN
They are going to take turns asking each other "do you want xyz?" and the other will say yes and then the other will say "dare you."
"Do you want to touch me?"
"yes."
"Dare you."
"Do you want to take off my shirt?"
"yes."
"Dare you."
"Do you want to put me on my back?" -"yes"- "open my legs?" -"yes"- undo my belt, pull down my fly? -"yes"- "reach your hand down my pants, touch my cock?" -"yes, yes"--
A beat, locked eyes, panting chests, kiss-swollen lips.
"Then I fucking dare you, Remus Lupin."
They take each other right there on the carpet, ten years' worth of hurt and love spilling out all over and inside of them.
And in Sirius' bedroom, tucked away where he keep his now-empty stash of alcohol--- an empty bottle of veritiserum.

didn't post Remus' birthday here either because I'm all fucked up and ruptured the ligament of my ankle on the 10th, but here it goes
about 3000 words (or 2000, I don't remember) of wolfstar getting together (and jegulus and marylily but in the background), Remus' friendships and fluff
despite not making much sense and being all over the place, I really like this one
“I was looking for you, Moony,” Pete drops on his side, sitting cross-legged and putting an arm around Remus’ shoulders.
“I literally told you I’d be here.”
“Well, yes, but I wanted to talk to you.”
“Why did you want to talk to me?”
“Well, Moony, can’t I just want to spend time with my best friend?”
Remus snorts. “Are you hiding from Lockhart again?”
“He keeps trying to kiss me!” He groans. “I don’t like him, Moony. He wants me to stroke his ego.”
“And you’re too good for him.”
“Yes, that too.”
Remus shakes his head with a fond smile, Lockhart has been chasing after Peter since his first year, their second. And yes, Peter is queer, but not like that. First of all, Peter says he doesn’t want to date people he doesn’t know, snog them, or do anything other than be friends with them.
Second of all, Peter has loads of people lining up at his door, he’s too charming with that shining smile and kind green eyes, not to mention the way he talks, he’ll beguile everyone who comes across him. Not the marauders, though, his relationship with them is strictly platonic.
The third thing is the annoying one, Lockhart can’t take a hint, and Peter is too nice to actually reject him. Merlin, that man is impossible, he thinks he’s the best person that’s ever existed, as in beautiful, intelligent and so it goes.
He’s not. He’s pathetic.
“You should tell him no, Pete.”
“I tried to, but he laughed as if it was a joke,” Peter sighs dramatically and lies down on Remus’ lap with a hand over his forehead. “Please kill me.”
Remus rolls his eyes and speaks harshly. “Stop it, don’t say that.”
“Sorry,” he says sheepishly. “I don’t mean it.”
“I know you don’t, it’s alright,” he pats Peter’s head. “Do you want me to hex him?”
“Would you?” He smiles when Remus nods, he really means it. “It’s alright, I’ll deal with him.”
“The offer remains, just say the word and I’ll do it.”
“Cheers, mate,” he gets up. “I’ll see if I can scare him away now, thank you for listening.”
“Anytime.”
.
“Remus, you won’t believe what happened!” Remus looks at James, waiting for him to continue. “Try to guess it.”
For the way he’s smiling and jumping, it’s probably something to do with quidditch or Regulus. Might be a spell too, he’s been trying to find a way to transfigure the floor into real lava. Why? He wants the trill to play ‘the floor is lava’ for real.
Yes, they’re all of age.
Yes, they still like to play games.
“I don’t know, James.”
“It’s for you, actually. Tomorrow is your birthday.”
“I’m aware,” he says dryly, but smiling so James will understand that it was a joke. “You don’t have to give me anything, James.”
“I don’t care.”
Remus sighs. “What happened, then?”
“Well, do you remember when I said I was going to ask my father if he could find you a job for The Quibbler?” Remus’ heart starts racing and his eyes widen when he nods. “You start right when we finish school.” No way. No fucking way. That’s not happening. Is this happening? “Moony, please tell me you’re not going to faint.”
“I can’t promise that,” he whispers. “I need to sit down.”
“Please tell me I didn’t fuck up,” James says in worry after Remus sits on the floor.
“Fuck up? James, I fucking love you! I can’t believe it! I could kiss you right now!”
“Please don’t,” he laughs, “Sirius would kill me, it’d be worse than the day they found out I have a crush on Reggie.”
“It really wouldn’t.”
“Moony, look at me.” He does so. “Talk to them, you won’t regret it.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
James sighs. “Alright, happy birthday, Moony.” He kisses his head and gets up, leaving Remus alone with his books in te common room.
.
"Why are you bothering us about it?" Regulus asks Remus flatly. "Don't you have other friends to do so?"
"I can't talk about it with them, though, can I?"
Regulus sighs. "God, you're annoying."
"You can't say that today, Reg," Pandora says. "It's his birthday."
Evan huffs a laugh. "Maybe getting older made him even more annoying."
“Piss off,” Remus says angrily, even though he’s not. It’s just that he absolutely can’t let them know. The study group can know: Lily knows, Pandora, Regulus, Evan, Dorcas, and Barty by extension because they’re always there bothering them even though Remus has never seen them open a book… James can’t know, Peter can’t know and most importantly, Sirius can’t know. They have a ‘no secrets and no lies’ pact, if he tells Peter or James, they’ll have to tell Sirius. And Sirius can’t know. His friends are laughing at him, all of them but Lily. Lily is looking at him with pity, which somehow is even worse. “Stop it,” he says pointing at her. “You promised you would be nice about it if I told you.”
“They're not being nice, why do I have to?”
“Because you’re the nice one,” Dorcas explains with a straight face. “We’re here to make Remus’ life a living hell, you’re here to help him bear it.”
Remus groans and rolls his eyes again, but his mind goes back to Sirius. Their perfect hair and silver eyes. Oh, they’re so beautiful. Remus woke up today with Sirius as Padfoot, jumping on top of him and licking his face, he didn’t even remember it was his birthday until Sirius made sure to tell him with a wonderful and beautiful grin. Then they made sure to hold his hand through breakfast and only let him go when he said he had to come to the library for the study group, but not before complaining about how Remus studies on weekends. He blushes.
“Look at him,” Barty laughs. “He’s pathetic, isn’t he?”
“I’ll show you who’s pathetic, Mx ‘I’m in love with my best friend but I can’t tell him because I can’t risk our friendship.”
He’s talking about Evan, but when everybody looks at him, he realises that he’s in the same position. It’s different, though, everybody knew Evan was in love with Barty too. Evan even made sure to make Barty know it.
“Remus…”
“I know, ” he snarls. “I’m going to the lake. Don’t follow me.”
He thinks he wants to be followed, but he doesn’t expect them to, he literally told them not to. It’s just that Sirius is everything to him, they’re thoughtful, careful, soft… They never did as much as raise their voice at him, even though they’ve done it with everyone else, even James when they found out he has a crush on their little brother.
And none of them can call him pathetic. Lily has been hopelessly in love with Mary since their first year. Regulus has had a crush on James even before coming to Hogwarts. Apparently, his crush started when Sirius showed him a picture of their friends and talked about them when they were home. Barty and Dorcas went through the same situation before. The only person who can mock him is Pandora, but, for a reason, she doesn’t.
He wants to tell James and Peter, they would understand, but he can’t. He can’t tell them because they’d have to hide it from Sirius, and Remus doesn’t want to put them in that situation.
When he sits on the ground, facing the lake, he feels an anger he hasn’t felt in years. Why the fuck is it all so hard? Merlin, he’s 18, he should’ve been stable by now. But he isn’t. His life is a mess, all he can think about is the NEWTs and Sirius. He needs top marks and he wants Sirius to love him back. He’d be so happy if Sirius loved him back. Even though he’ll have a job in The Quibbler, he will fuck up and need to find another job. He needs top marks.
“You should ask them out,” Remus jumps startled and points his wand at the voice before even looking at them. Reasonably so, the last time he was alone at the lake and someone went after him, it was Snape and he wasn’t prepared at all, he ended up in the hospital wing because of a dark spell. “God, Remus, it’s me.”
“You startled me, twat.”
“Well, don’t start with that, you’re fine,” Regulus says emotionless. “And my point stands,” Remus sits back down on the ground, not facing him. “You should ask them out.”
“First of all,” he says sharply. “I specifically told you not to follow me.”
“Mhm,” he hums nonchalantly. “As if you didn’t want to be followed. I know you, Lupin, you want– No, you need someone to convince you that Sirius loves you back but won’t make the first move, you have to do it.”
“You’re a hypocrite,” Remus mumbles. “If I tell Sirius, then you’ll have to tell James and ask him on a date.”
“I’ll do it.”
“What?” Remus chokes, his eyes wide in shock.
“I said I’ll do it. I’ll go to your common room with you, you’ll tell James to meet me outside. While I tell him I love him in the room behind the knight tapestry, you’ll tell Sirius in your dorm.” Regulus doesn’t seem to be lying, he wouldn’t lie about something like that, would he? “And for the record, both James and Peter know. You’re not subtle, Remus.”
He rolls his eyes and gets up. “Alright, then,” he says, “But if I lose my best friend and fuck up everything, you’ll regret meeting me in the first place.”
Regulus smirks. “Are you sure you can handle me, Lupin?”
“With my hands and feet tied just after the full moon.”
Regulus raises his eyebrows and gets up too, heading for the castle. It’s fine, really, the way Regulus treats him, their friendship is like that. Remus likes his bluntness, sometimes it’s necessary. He appreciates all his friends: the way Lily lets him lie in her lap when he needs it; the way James hugs him when he’s overwhelmed, knowing exactly how much pressure he needs to feel better; the way Peter will sit next to him and say nothing when he’s having an anxiety attack, giving him the support he needs without overwhelming him; the way Pandora coddles him when no one else will; even when Dorcas, Barty and Evan mock him to make him laugh. They all help him in their own way.
And Sirius. Sirius knows how he’s feeling even before him, they know when he needs someone to let him talk, they know when to get someone else to help him, even though they’re always enough. They know Remus even more than Remus knows himself. How he likes his tea, how he loves chocolate cake but only without topping because it makes him feel sick, how he loves to hear them sing when he’s sad… They know when Remus needs Padfoot to lie down with him and nuzzle his face, licking his nose in an attempt to cheer him up.
Sirius is perfect for him and he doesn’t want to lose them.
.
Well, that’s harder than he anticipated, Just looking at Sirius makes his stomach turn and his limbs get cold. He can’t do it. He just can’t. No, no, no. Sirius is looking back at him with that beautiful grin, showing their chipped tooth. Oh, what a sight, he’d look at them forever if he could.
But he can’t, so he averts his eyes and hides in his four-poster.
“Moony,” he hears Sirius saying softly. “I’m coming in.”
“No.”
“I won’t leave you alone on your birthday.”
“I wasn’t alone until now.”
“But you were with my brother, not with me.”
“My point stands,” he says flatly. “I want to be alone, Padfoot.”
“No, you don’t.”
No, I don’t.
“I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t mean it.”
“You would, I know you,” they say calmly. “I hope you’re still decent because I’m coming in.”
And they do, because his friends have no concept of personal space and they know when he’s lying. “What?”
“You’re worried.”
“Of course I’m not,” he says sarcastically. “I’m the epitome of calmness.”
“Don’t be mean to me, Moony,” they pout. “What happened?”
Oh, fuck, he’ll have to do it, won’t he? He promised Regulus he would do it, he can’t back off now. “Nothing happened, Sirius, just leave me alone.”
“Did my brother do something to you? Do I have to hit him for you?”
“Don’t hit your brother.”
“It wouldn’t be the first nor the last time, he’s my brother, we do that.” Remus huffs a laugh. “There we are! Now give me a smile.”
“Piss off,” he says, frowning again. “I just need to be alone for a while.”
“Oh, did something happen? Are you overwhelmed?”
“I’m fine, Sirius, just leave.”
“Do you need me to get James? I’ll get him for you. Did Barty say something?”
“I don’t understand your problem with Barty.”
“Well, James doesn’t like them, so as the amazingly supportive friend that I am, I don’t like them either.”
“James is jealous of them.”
“Do you need him now?”
“He’s doing something important now.” Merlin, he has to do it. “Sit down, would you?”
“Are you just giving me orders like a dog?” They do it anyway.
“Well, you obeyed, didn’t you?”
They laugh. “What happened, Moony?”
“Well, your brother and I made a deal, if he does something, I’ll have to do something too,” he says carefully. “And he’s doing it right now, so I’ll have to do it too. But I need you to bear with me and not speak or leave until I tell you to.”
“So you’re giving me orders like a dog.” Remus glares at them. “Alright, I’m sorry, I’ll be quiet.”
He’s sure Sirius is being difficult because they know Remus finds it funny, but it’s not helping now, it’s just making him even more anxious because he’ll miss it. He’ll miss Sirius when they stop talking to him.
“Reg is outside confessing his love for James.”
“Really?!” They jump with a grin. “Oh my God, I can’t believe it, it’s been what? Six years? Seven?”
“Sirius.”
“Alright, I promise I’ll be quiet now,” they zip their mouth shut and pretend to throw an imaginary key through the window.
“Regulus is confessing his love for James because I agreed to do something if he did that.” They nod. “I said if he confessed his love for James, I’d confess my love for you. Which isn’t fair because it’s my birthday and you’ll feel guilty for rejecting me on my birthday. Don’t. I’ll be fine. I just don’t want things to get weird because even if I can’t have you as a partner, I still want to have you as a friend, I can’t lose you.”
They just nod again and Remus sighs.
“You can reject me today, it’s best if you do it now, I don’t want you to wait until tomorrow so I won’t feel bad on my birthday, just… Just please don’t let me lose you as a friend, because even though I love you as more than that, I still love you as a friend and I appreciate your friendship and you as a person and I can’t, Sirius, I just can’t.”
They don’t move.
“I promise I won’t kill Regulus for giving me bad advice either, I know you love him and I won’t kill him even if I want to. I can’t promise I won’t kill the others, though, but you don’t like Barty, so there’s that. If I kill him would you want to be my friend again? I’ll do whatever it takes.” His breath hitches and he realises what he had just said, putting his hands over his mouth and widening his eyes. “I take it back, I can’t kill anyone, I’m sorry. But I’ll do anything else, just don’t leave me.”
Their face is blank.
“I fucked up, didn’t I? I’m sorry, I should have known better. And now I made you uncomfortable because I’m a bad friend and I put you in an awful position. I’m sorry, Sirius,” he feels his eyes watering. Of course he’s going to cry, he’s going to lose one of his best friends, how could someone not cry about it? “Just… I’ll stay away from you if you want to, I won’t touch you anymore if you don’t want me to, I–”
“Remus,” Sirius says gravely and he freezes. “Moony, slow down. Breathe. Come on, inhale… hold… exhale… hold… That’s it, better now? Do you want me to hug you? Will the pressure make you feel better?”
“You don’t want to touch me.”
“I wouldn’t have offered if I didn’t, would I?” They smile. “You’re overwhelmed, Remus, do you need the pressure?” Is he overwhelmed? He hadn’t noticed. But it makes sense, he’s feeling like he needs to peel his skin off. “Moony?”
He slowly nods. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologise, love, I love you too. I have for a while now. James and Peter know, and Reg too, he’s known the longest.”
“You do?”
“I do.”
“That little shite could have told me, couldn’t he? I’ve– Ugh,” he sighs. “He’s known I’m in love with you for a good while now, he could have… It would have… You told him not to tell me, didn’t you?”
“What do you think?” They ask hoarsely. “I can’t live without you, can I?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Remus John Lupin, I think you’re wasting too much time apologising when you could be snogging me. I really need you to, it’s a life or death situation, you’re torturing me by looking at me like that.”
“Am I?” Remus smirks. “What if I want to torture you?”
Sirius grins with that mischievous glint in their eyes. “Naughty boy,” they laugh. “I’ll let you do anything to me.”
“Anything? Well, that’s a huge promise, isn’t–"
Before they can continue, James runs into the room and throws himself on his bed, laughing. “You won’t believe me!”
“Regulus said he loves you?”
“Regulus said he loves me!!”
“And now you’re dating?”
“And now we’re dating!!”
“Moony and I are dating now, too.”
“Oh, are we?” Remus asks with a smirk.
“I thought so,” they frown. “Haven’t you just said you want to make me suffer?”
“Padfoot,” James says carefully. “I don’t think… What do you mean? Suffer? Moony, you can’t– Why would you– I thought you–”
“James, mate,” Remus says laughing. “I don’t think you understood what Sirius meant. But we’re not dating.”
“We’re not?”
“Regulus said I’d have to make the first move,” he explains. “Can I be your boyfriend, Sirius?”
“YES! Oh my God, James! Did you see that? Tell me you saw that.”
“You know…” he says with a weird smile. “I think I’ll leave you two to it, I’ll be back later. Lock the door, will you?”
“Wanker.”
.
“So both of you are suddenly taken?” Dorcas asks amused. “Out of nowhere?”
“I guess.”
“You’re pathetic,” Barty announces. “Both of you. Absolutely pathetic.”
“I’m pathetic?” Regulus asks rolling his eyes. “Alright, Mx ‘I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than when he kissed me’.”
“You weren’t supposed to tell him that.”
“Why not, darling?” Evan asks with a smirk. “Are you afraid I won’t think you’re cool anymore? Don’t worry, I’ve never thought you were cool."
“And how does it feel, Remus?”
“Oh, Lily, you have to tell Mary, I want to relive the moment Sirius called me ‘love’ again and again. I’d live in that moment forever.”
“Sirius made you sappy.”
Remus feels a dazed smile on his face. “They did.”
 .
"Remus," Lily says in the common room the next day. "I told her."
"How did it go?"
"You were right," she says quietly, but undoubtedly thrilled. "Merlin, Remus, her lips are so soft and warm. Her hair smells like coconut and vanilla and I'd live in her arms forever."
"I told you you wouldn't regret it, didn't I?" He asks smiling. "And you know I'm always right."
"We can go on double dates now."
"Lily, you know I love you, don't you?" She nods. "I'll not be going on double dates. Ever."
"Oh, you're so boring."
"I don't see anyone complaining."
She smiles at him. "Yes, unfortunately, we still love you."

@wolfstarmicrofic May 7 - prompt 7: Secret Relationship [word count 390]
They had discussed it, and decided they didn’t want to tell anyone for a while. Remus because he still couldn’t believe he was dating Sirius Black, and Sirius because he enjoyed having Remus all for himself. So they agreed on keeping their relationship secret while they figured this whole dating thing out.
The very first day of their secret relationship, James had to crawl out of the dorm they had thought was empty enough for an impromptu makeout session.
The first week of their secret relationship, Peter quietly levitated a chair to strategically block from view the fact that Sirius’s hand was resting on Remus’s thigh in History of Magic.
The second week of their secret relationship, Lily redirected a bunch of first years away from the library shelves they were passionately kissing behind.
The third week of their secret relationship, Marlene walked singing out loud on the Quidditch pitch, giving them enough time to get dressed and sneak out of the showers.
The fourth week of their secret relationship, Mary broke a pot in Herbology to startle them back from looking deep into each other’s eyes instead of pruning the Bubotuber.
The fifth week of their secret relationship, Peter got their Potions essays in order since both their owners were off doing who knew what (they all knew what).
The sixth week of their secret relationship, James had to swim further away than usual to avoid coming out of the lake right by where they were putting flowers in each other’s hair.
The seventh week in their secret relationship, Professor McGonagall flicked her wand and conjured a velvet curtain to keep the alcove they were making out in from prying eyes.
The eight week of their secret relationship they walked up to their friends in the Common Room hand in hand and finally told them they were dating. They got loud cheers, good wishes, hugs, kisses, enthusiasm and were urged to enjoy the empty dorm, that James and Peter were more than happy sleeping by the fireplace for one night.
The very first day of their official relationship, both Sirius and Remus wondered why all of their friends were so hangover at breakfast. From the main table, Professor McGonagall gifted them with one of her rare smiles as Professor Dumbledore counted the Galleons he was putting in her hand.

12 year old sirius would scribble down “sirius potter” on his parchment instead of taking notes during transfiguration and mcgonagall snatched the thing from his desk exactly once. the one time it happens sirius looks so mortified she smiles and decides to incinerate the parchment on the spot before reprimanding him because she may have a soft spot for him but favouritism is out of question. things get a lot more interesting when years later she’s teaching slytherins and snatches a piece of parchment with “regulus potter” written on it.

Dec 9. Prompt: Tragedy. Word count: 175 @jegulus-microfic
“Moonyyyy. It’s a tragedy! I’ve lost the love of my life.”
Sirius falls backwards into Remus’ lap, throwing his hand over his face dramatically. Remus rolls his eyes, closes his book, and looks down at his boyfriend.
“I thought I was the love of your life.”
“You’re the romantic love of my life. James is the platonic love of my life. And now I’ve lost him. To Reggie of all people!!”
“You just found out, huh?”
“You knew?”
“Yeah, I caught them snogging one night in the astronomy tower while I was doing rounds.”
“I just caught them snogging near the black lake!” Sirius then looks up at Remus, relaxing, a small smile on his face.
“Reg looked happy. He was laughing. I haven’t seen him laugh like that in a while. They look good together.”
“Are you gonna give them any shit?”
“For lying to me? YES. for everything else, of course not. If they found what we’ve got, how could I?”
Remus leans down and kisses his nose, smiling softly back at him.

Remus coaxing James out of the house post Jegulus ‘breakup’ by telling him he can play ABBA in the car (Remus 100% is controlling the aux at all times and refuses to ever play disco for James) and the very fist song that plays is Knowing me Knowing you, and James just starts sobbing uncontrollably, so Remus just sighs and turns the car around to head towards his own house where Sirius is binging movies and eating ice cream on the couch with Regulus.

Forbid
'If, -God forbid- anything happens to the both of us, we hereby declare Sirius Orion Black and Remus John Lupin to be the *only* people allowed to gain custody over our son.'
Remus clenches his jaw as he watches the realisation sink in. These are the final words of Lily and James Evans-Potter. Their final wishes. And they're read 3 years too late. 3 years, in which an innocent man has been locked away in hell on earth. 3 years, in which his nephew has been hidden away with the foulest sort of people. 3 years, in which Remus hasn't smiled. 3 years of fighting the highest institution of wizarding society.
3 years of tears, anxiety, and hopelessness. And he'd do this for 3 more years if it meant seeing the way Sirius' posture deflated when the verdict rang through the room. He'd take 3 more years if it meant he'd get to experience the thrill of getting to bring his boys home. He'd take 3 extra years if it meant he could relive the moment that one word was spoken.
"Innocent."

uncertainty
Cross-posted to ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/44490136
Remus pours out two fingers of whiskey. He holds the glass out to Sirius for his inspection, to which Sirius raises one disapproving brow. Remus smiles wryly, adds a third finger, and then Sirius takes the glass without complaint.
“He’s certainly growing up, our little Prongslet. Blimey, a girlfriend?” murmurs Sirius wonderingly, resuming their discussion of Harry’s rumored outing with a one Cho Chang.
“Yes, quite. Although, from what I’ve heard, it appears that the poor girl left in tears.” Remus fails to fight a twitch of the lips. “I mean, that’s James, in one.”
They both chortle indecently, clink their glasses in memory of the deceased, and throw back a healthy measure of spirit. Sirius becomes fascinated by a droplet of whiskey resting on Remus’ bottom lip. He’s just become very familiar with the flavor of the bottle they’re sharing, but thinks his greatest desire in the whole wide world is to know what that specific droplet tastes like.
“Ah, Padfoot,” Remus sighs wistfully, “to be young and in love again.”
“You miss being young?” he asks.
He knows the answer to that, but he wants Remus to ask him.
And he doesn’t disappoint, looking back at Sirius incredulously. “Don’t you?”
“Some parts. I miss when my knees didn’t creak getting out of bed. I miss having a cool taste in music; now, I don’t understand half of it. I miss turning heads when I walk into a room.”
“You still turn heads, you vain, daft thing,” Remus mutters bashfully, faintly pink and looking down into his whiskey.
Sirius holds back a snort, knowing that no one—present company possibly, hopefully excluded—thought him an exceptional beauty these days. “And I miss the days when I really thought everything would go whatever way I wanted it to, because, by God, I was Sirius Black.”
Remus smiles indulgently at him. “But?”
Sirius steels himself. He’s been waiting a long time for this. He’s been waiting for Remus to be ready to hear it, but mostly, he’s been waiting for himself to be ready to say it.
“But I don’t miss being young,” he starts haltingly. “I don’t miss the uncertainty.”
“Uncertainty?” Remus’ wide ochre eyes are fixed on him. Remus’ sole attention on him, even at 15 years old, has always made him feel as though he’s done a dead drop on his broom. Some things never change.
“Yeah,” he nods. “Uncertainty. When I was young, I didn’t know who I was…Didn’t want to even try to figure it out. And in those rare instances when I was introspective enough to catch a true glimpse of myself…I was frightened by what I saw. I was frightened of what…of what others would think of me, if they knew what I really was.”
Remus stiffens almost imperceptibly, but his face is otherwise placid.
Sirius sighs heavily. “I turned away from it, denied my true self. And I think no one suffered more for it than I, and…and perhaps you. I was the worst sort of coward. I was brave in all things, except for the things that mattered.”
Remus’ eyes have unfocused slightly.
“Remus, I wouldn’t trade knowing and accepting who I am, not for all of the youth in the world,” he finishes quietly.
His expression does something complicated. He looks almost angry, confused, and his long, thin fingers reach up to cover his mouth.
Don’t hide yourself from me, please, Sirius begs mentally, knowing how insane that would sound if he said it aloud.
I’ve spent entirely too much time not looking at every single part of you.
As if hearing his thoughts, he removes his hand from his face, steadies himself on the coffee table as he leans forward. His eyes are a bright, hard and intense amber. Remus’ words come out in a quick, reluctant whisper, as if he cannot stop himself from speaking: “And who are you, Sirius?”
He’s thought of a hundred ways to come out to Remus, imaginary conversations with James in the chill of his cell, during which his memory of his brother mostly just took the piss and called him an emotional ponce. It was a fairly accurate caricature of the real life James F. Potter.
In the end, he doesn’t think at all: “I am a man who is violently in love with you.” He pauses, a little surprised. “I always have been. I always will be.”
Remus wastes no time in standing up and striding out of the room.
It wasn’t exactly the reaction Sirius had expected, but he had also known better than to expect a happy ending for himself.
Remus bursts back into the room like an angry gale: “God dammit, Padfoot!”
He storms out the door on the opposite wall. This time, he’s gone for a little bit longer, but when he appears again, just about kicking down a third door, he looks just as furious as before.
“Are you fucking serious?!”
He’s left the room again, without even the courtesy of allowing Sirius to make the obligatory, if tired, joke for old time’s sake.
By the time Remus comes back, Sirius is halfway through a second glass of whiskey and has worked up a decent sulk. He sits up straight in the leather armchair, trying to shake away his increasing tipsiness. Remus is standing at the threshold, panting a little, a feral, wild look about him that Sirius has never quite seen before.
Sirius begins, “Moony, I—“
And Remus crosses the room in three long paces, looking for all the world like he’s going to punch him, but no, he kisses Sirius on the forehead with hard, bruising pressure, tightly fisting the back of his hair in one hand and clutching the side of his throat in the other.
And Sirius wasn’t expecting that either.
Remus crawls desperately into his lap, hands patting him erratically as if to make sure all of Sirius’ body parts are there.
“I’d thought I’d got rid of you,” he moans exasperatedly. Sirius feels the vibration of Remus’ muffled sob, buried in his neck.
“I don’t think you can,” he replies weakly, sheepishly. “I’m like a particularly tenacious tick.”
When Remus finally kisses him on the mouth, like he’s been wanting desperately for decades—and it’s not until hours later, after they’ve talked for hours—the most unexpected thing is that it is gentle. It is so heartbreakingly soft, so sweet and slow, just like the way Remus smiles or speaks. He realizes in a detached way that he’s crying a bit. He’s never been handled delicately before. He didn’t know love could be gentle. “Why are you crying, you silly boy?” Remus is smiling down at him now, fondly, like Sirius is daft and precious, and so, so breakable. He removes Sirius’ belt and lowers his trousers and underwear with deft hands, holding Sirius in his hand with that intense attention that makes him feel as though he’s dead dropping on his broom. “Don’t you know there’s nothing to be sad about?”
———————————————————————————————————
“Why are you crying, old boy?”
“Oh, I dunno,” Remus sniffles sheepishly. “Being silly.”
Sirius watches Remus watch the happy couple walk back up the aisle together, tears pooling in the gentle crow’s feet by his eyes.
“No, go on, tell me,” he nudges.
“Alright, alright, it’s just…from the back, you know, they could be Lily and James.”
“Yeah…” sighs Sirius wistfully. “Harry, though, much better with women than James ever was.”
“Oh, indubitably,” Remus agrees immediately.
“Little Prongslet grew up. I wish, oh, I wish they could have seen it. Just-just the finest lad you e-ever—“
“Shh, Pads, s’alright,” Remus soothes. He squeezes his hand and it steadies him.
“Christ, things have changed so much between then and now. We grew up too, Remus, you realize?” He wipes away an errant tear impatiently. “I didn’t know that would happen.”
“Imagine that.”
